Introduction and overview of the Premier League discussion

00:00:08
Mikey
Hello and a very warm welcome on this Monday's podcast here at the daily GSPN podcast coming to you from the Premier League. My name is Michael Thompson and today I am joined by our overseas compadre, Michal. How are you sir?
00:00:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, ah hello, hello, Mikey, it's so nice to be here, like a brand new role for me. Well, it's been going for like, for me, as for any other Man United fan out there. I'm struggling, but hey, i've I've gotten used to it. It's been over a decade. I'll get over it eventually.
00:00:43
Mikey
right I mean I have already upset you in our text chat leading up to this. I talked about discussing the relegation battle and only until you questioned the United. you realise that it actually meant them as part of the relegation zone. Oh man, what a depressing time to be alive. However, this weekend's fixtures have thrown some cracking results out. Not many shocks, but there definitely are talking points from the weekend. And I'd like to dive straight in to the thing that we all want to know about, the thing that we all want to
00:01:16
Mikey
touch upon is Liverpool and Arsenal, top of the Premier League. um And as we've already discussed and mentioned just before we came on, that neither of them really ah had results that when and were a shock to us. Liverpool managed to hold on at Anfield against Wolves.
00:01:35
Mikey
They went 2-0 up and seemed comfortable and then Wolves got a consolation goal and then started to knock on the door. But Liverpool saw it out, got the three points and the same for Arsenal.
00:01:46
Mikey
um Away at Wolves, managed to win that game again. Sorry, I've i've made a mistake there.
00:01:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's all right.
00:01:53
Mikey
A player, Leicester, my bad. um And I think the result basically went the way that you would want, not for Arsenal, but definitely for both teams at the top of the Premier League, ah pushing on.

Arsenal vs Liverpool: Performance and potential in the Premier League

00:02:06
Mikey
And I'd like to get your insight into, won the games this weekend, but also how you foresee the Premier League leading out. Is it too much of a task for Arsenal to claw back, or do you think that that there is a possibility?
00:02:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Okay, I think that because of the result that Arsenal got, that 2-0 victory away at Leicester, that is a clean sheet. That is also a very important thing. ah They are still seven points behind ah Liverpool, of course, obviously, and I don't think that's going to be changing anytime soon.
00:02:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But then again, I remember before those up cut those games from last weekend, ah there was like a big talk about what Arsenal is going to do. Kyle Harvard is injured. they know go They no longer have a good or at least somehow a good center forward up to par. So well, Arsenal is probably shaking in their boots and Liverpool could basically trying up their new like the crown of the Premier League.
00:03:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah right now already in and and February. But then Ethan and Wenerie came along and also with a like with a great performance from from this player, and not to mention a sub who scored two goals and settled the game, Mikael Merino. That could be the answer to Arsenal problems, really. So I wouldn't rule anything out. This is Premier League. Anything can happen. But with that being said, I have to give a shout out to this Liverpool team. As much as it hurts me, as for a Man United fan to say,
00:03:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
But wow, they are an absolutely, like like it's this is a squad which is capable of smashing absolutely anyone. And of course, somebody would say that, oh, wolves did have some sort of a chance in the second half. Well, perhaps they did. But again, like the the the qualt look that the the feature.
00:03:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
of a quality team is that even if they're down, they can still bring themselves right back up, and they can just take it to their opponents. And this is exactly what they did. So yeah, seven point difference. And with the remaining fixtures, we actually had this discussion not so long time ago ah with with Louis, about about like the chances of Liverpool. And of course, ah as Liverpool fan, Louis was super cautious he said that he's a pessimist in nature so he doesn't want to you know bring a lot of um like like he doesn't want to hype up it too much but to be honest looking at their fixture like with Aston Villa Manchester City and Newcastle uh still coming up Chelsea Arsenal still coming up on May 10th
00:04:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
we still have to wait for Coronation. And here I will completely agree, they are right now the most likely team to clinch the title at the end of May, but i just we're just going to have to wait and see, right?
00:04:55
Mikey
yeah definitely and there's thirty nine points to play for. And as you've already said, and if both teams manage to get four points, we know where it's going to go.
00:05:08
Mikey
and But history kind of tells us that it's pretty unlikely that Arsenal will catch.
00:05:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:05:14
Mikey
um A little start is when ah the teams behind the league leaders have also played 24 games, 25 now, I think it is, ah then the biggest deficit overhauled in the Premier League era was five points.
00:05:27
Mikey
So it's already a massive ask for Arsenal.
00:05:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:05:32
Mikey
It's three games where Liverpool drop points or lose, and Arsenal win. And I just don't see Arsenal going through now without dropping points.
00:05:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:05:43
Mikey
because I can still see them as a team that will struggle in fixtures. um But I did want to mention, and I probably say his name wrong, but I pronounce it's his name wrong.
00:05:55
Mikey
Nowarari? Nowarari? For Arsenal, I thought that that the game against Leicester, they they were really poor. Arsenal as a team, they lacked a lot of imagination, creativity. and but He was constantly probing for Arsenal. He was a difference for me. um Keen to be on either side, either foot.
00:06:17
Mikey
he's crossing, he's short, he was really unlucky, he hit the post on his shot and yeah it was a nightmare for for the defenders, for Leicester defenders to to manage and so I thought he did really well and then as you've already said, Marino who came on He said he'd play in goal if it meant that he got to start on the pitch, which is a great attitude to have as a player at a club.
00:06:39
Mikey
that That's the kind of attitude you want from from from your players.
00:06:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:06:44
Mikey
So it's looking really well for both teams, but it will be remain to be seen.
00:06:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:49
Mikey
I'm sure we will talk about that as we continue.

Brighton's dominance over Chelsea: Analysis and implications

00:06:53
Mikey
ah But talking about teams that are doing well, you actually wanted to bring up Brighton. Brighton had the first game of the weekend. and oh They were at home again against their Chelsea rivals and these teams probably know each other inside out.
00:07:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
no
00:07:09
Mikey
3-0 was the victory. and ah For me, I wanted to talk about the Metolma first touch from the long ball, which was a thing of beauty. Terrible defending, but he still had to bring it down and finish. He continued his his scoring form against Chelsea.
00:07:27
Mikey
and and for yeah like you know Brighton were 2-0 after 38 minutes. and It's a scrappy goal that Chelsea didn't deal with. And yeah, I won't talk too much about Minta because i think I think that's where you want to go with it. I'll lead you on to you there.
00:07:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Well, Minthe's performance was absolutely stunning. And again, um I think but somebody could actually start asking questions like, OK, hold on, guys. So is Brighton actually a good team or is Chelsea that bad? I think the answer to this question is that Brighton really took it to Chelsea. They did not give them even an inch of space, especially in midfield. And Minthe, he He basically capitalized on on on both of so those occasions where he scored both goals. And the rating of 9.5, absolutely deserving. I mean, he was an absolute nightmare for ah for Chelsea players. I mean, and with expected goals of 0.36, he scored two. So those those were not the the easiest of situations to score from, but and yet he still did. Not to mention that he was winning those ground duels. He was very good in the air.
00:08:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah he was ah really awesome. maybe He was awesome but it was like a joy to to watch which is ah which cannot be said about the Chelsea side and that actually is another thing that I want to bring up because Cole Palmer was ah nowhere to be seen and kunku same thing netto oh my god one of the worst performances i've ever seen from him uh basically oh and kukure are being booed uh mercilessly from Brighton supporters every single time he actually touched the ball uh so um like and and what do you think Mikey because like i'm actually really interested in your opinion here like is uh mr Enzo knocking on the maybe not the heavens door but the

Chelsea's struggles and future prospects

00:09:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
this is still what it takes
00:09:23
Mikey
I don't know, we we talked about And potentially getting sacked, and we'll go into that game later, but after today's result, it's another step away.
00:09:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
now
00:09:32
Mikey
I think Enzo Maresco was asked, when Chelsea were in a rich vein of form, whether they could be title challengers and he point blank said no and at the point I just thought it was a very strange thing to do. He went he went above where managers generally set plate down. um he went He went a little bit further than that and ever since there has been an inconsistency with the club and that is is transparent on the pitch.
00:10:01
Mikey
I don't want to take too much away from Brighton though. um I do think that Brighton, as a team, have managed Chelsea over those last two games ah very, very well. I mean, Chelsea were dire on Friday, really, really poor, and as you've already alluded to, so many players going missing. But I also think that Brighton probably didn't allow them to to to create very much. ah They managed big players well, and when those big players are out playing,
00:10:28
Mikey
It becomes an even harder test. um So yeah, Brighton, you know, sitting on in 10th place, mid-table, good vein of ah results, and Chelsea ah sat just outside ah European football at the minute on joint points, just a worse goal difference than Bournemouth.
00:10:50
Mikey
It could all change. you know that There's so many things that could could change from here.
00:10:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh
00:10:55
Mikey
We're going to talk about Villa shortly and how their season's looking. um But the gaps in in this table are are very slim.
00:11:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:11:06
Mikey
ah So a few results in the right direction, as we've already seen with some other teams, can can put you in a really good position.
00:11:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Not to mention that, like just when I just glanced at the upcoming fixtures for Chelsea, to February 25th, this will be a perfect opportunity at home, at Stamford Bridge, to basically amp up the the goal difference.
00:11:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
that there are so badly need because why why am I saying that? Well, that's because Southampton is visiting Stamford Bridge. So that would be a perfect opportunity for Chelsea to get some goals going because there is no way that Southampton will be able to stop them. they are I think they've already gotten used to the fact that next season they'll be playing a championship. Let's let's face it.
00:11:53
Mikey
Thank you. Yeah, so in my notes, I actually wrote i wrote down this question while I was watching that game. um How difficult must it be? And we don't need to really go into it, but it's just a question I've wondered. How difficult must it be being in a team that you know is is going to go down? As a player, you must start thinking, I'm going to try and be an individual that might get me a good transfer, that keeps me in the league.
00:12:20
Mikey
But as a game-to-game basis, you must be, as it as a team, so disheartened um with the chance or the opportunity of of of getting a result. I think ah for for everyone involved in that club at this stage, you know, there's still 13 games of football and you've still got thousands of people who are going to turn up and watch you every week.
00:12:42
Mikey
So it's not as though you can just throw the towel in.
00:12:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mmhmm.
00:12:44
Mikey
um
00:12:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mmhmm.
00:12:46
Mikey
Yeah, it's damage limitation, but I just think psychologically that's probably one of the hardest tests in in a professional sport, knowing that you're currently out of it and and not being able to to do anything to match any team that you're playing against or or most teams that you're coming up against.
00:12:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nah.
00:13:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah and you know and also like you mentioned yeah like you asked this question like how must this player feel I mean it also depends on the situation as far as the national team is concerned because ah well I just can't help by look at it from the perspective of Southampton's captain Jan Bednaric. Well who is but okay like A couple episodes ago, I maybe outrageously said that he is the guy who doesn't know how to defend, but apparently stats, they make me shut my mouth, because the this like according to the statute, but Nordic is one of the ah better centre-backs. Well, so perhaps I was wrong. but And that's actually the thing, because
00:13:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Looking at the Poland national team, all right, we have a big problem with our defenders. People say that this is basically the worst era for

Southampton's relegation battle and individual player impacts

00:13:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Polish football as far as defenders go. So in our situation, a Jan bednarek from a team which is already facing relegation and it's pretty, it's almost confirmed to to to to drop down to championship. We still take him.
00:14:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
And in a normal ah situation, for example, like if if if if Thomas Tuchel were to look through all of the players English players playing at at the Premier League, he would absolutely rule out the like of the likes of Jan Bednaruk. He wouldn't even ah would even be able to dream.
00:14:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
of making it to the national team. And the only thing that is keeping Jan Petnaric's, let's just say, passion alive is the fact that he still has his guaranteed sport at a national team and that Polish team coach Michal Przewicz is still looking at him.
00:14:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because if it wasn't for that, I do not really believe that Jan Petnaric would be that motivated. So I think national team is one of the reasons why he's still trying.
00:14:46
Mikey
Yeah, absolutely.
00:14:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's my opinion.
00:14:46
Mikey
And then, yeah, like players that still stand out for me, ah like Ramsdale, he showed his class. He he made huge saves against Bournemouth this weekend.
00:14:57
Mikey
and But yeah, as as a club, it must be very difficult. um But I'll tell you what isn't difficult, choosing our advertisements.
00:15:07
Mikey
And today we have a special new advertisement. Bionic, ladies and gentlemen, ears down, listening in.
00:15:52
Mikey
Absolutely, get what's right for you right now. I know we do and that is football and Premier League football like that. and but So our our middle section of today's podcast, I wanted to touch on um the shock results of the weekend for me.

Forest's surprising season and Fulham's consistency

00:16:10
Mikey
um in Villa were playing Ipswich, to the team who who were fighting for points, any points they can scrap at the bottom of the league um as they say, top of the relegation zone.
00:16:22
Mikey
um And that finished one all. ah We saw Marcus Rastford introduced, and which is well worth a mention. And then the other game that I wanted to talk about was forestst west Forest against Fulham. And ah the reason that... forest it' It's a little bit crazy for me. The reason that Forest are coming up in my opinion as a shock result is because of their level of over-exceeding this year and the position that they find themselves in, which can't be, you know, can't be this this disappointed, but you've got to look at the results that they're having and to maintain Champions League football, which is the expectation that we are looking at now for them ah deep into the season.
00:16:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mhm.
00:16:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:17:03
Mikey
They've got to be picking up results at Craven Cottage. um it's so It was a hundredth meeting between Fulham and Forest, and it really didn't disappoint as a neutral.
00:17:14
Mikey
um Last week I was watching Traore and I thought he he doesn't do enough for me to warrant the hype around him and Crikey did he prove me wrong in this game he was all over the place they didn't have an answer for him and they didn't there were signs
00:17:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right.
00:17:35
Mikey
that Forrest got away with a couple of times on the right hand side he managed to link up with Jimenez like a close header that just went wide and Forrest for me didn't react quick enough ah and it wasn't soon until you know that that relationship actually linked up and and the impact that Traore was having down that side was phenomenal.
00:18:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:18:00
Mikey
ah Chris Wood scored again. um He is the man on fire in Premier League football and I think he had ah an element of luck with him, a little deflection that went just past the post, took it away from the stretch of the goalkeeper.
00:18:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:16
Mikey
But you've got to make your own look in this game.

Manchester United's challenges and future squad considerations

00:18:18
Mikey
He took his chance and a mistake. And let's be honest, Forest didn't have any other chances. They took advantage of of of ah of a mistake. um And then, yeah, the set piece was a difference at the end. But what a great team to watch. I really enjoyed it. And and both teams made that very entertaining. and um So, yeah, it's it's an interesting one.
00:18:40
Mikey
Ipswich and Villa for me as well was it was a bit of a shock. We saw Marcus Rashford play. ah How did you feel seeing Rashford at Villa?
00:18:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
to be honest, I am very happy for him. I'm very happy for him and, um, I'll tell you something else. Um, perhaps, okay. So so somebody would, uh, you know, react just like in, you know, those, uh, romantic movies and somebody like, it's just, you know, like, like, you know, someone is hurt and they just see their ex just, you know, moving on with somebody else and that person just having, you know, second thoughts. Oh, oh did I make a right decision by letting them go? I think this is how United fans can feel right now.
00:19:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
because okay and also the fact that the the system that Unai Emery has introduced at Villa suits Rashford at all like like like it it suits Rashford perfectly and ah well and basically lo and behold like his rating for this game 8.1 out of 10 that is a superb ah performance by Marcus Rashford so ah I'm really happy for him and I just really keep my fingers crossed that his career at Villa ah gets, let's just say, gets another spirit and gets some, you know, second life because he really, really deserves it. And as far as the, like, I really want to praise the ipshowitz Ipswich side, going one man down, finishing the game with just 10 men, managing to get this tie.
00:20:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
against a team which is like which is a Champions League caliber right now, Aston Villa, it's really amazing. And I believe Ipswich Town is everything that Southampton would like to be, but they're just not for many reasons. um And this is what I can say about that. Oh, and of course, Palmer.
00:20:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
like amazing performance for a goalkeeper 8.2 and of course the fully deserving title of the play of the match of that game he prevented 1.79 of goals of course like talking about statistics ah ah amazing amazing and actually this brings up another question to the to like while talking about Villa games specifically, is that European Cups, they can be a blessing and there goes to be ah damning as far as the the form goes. And I think this is what we're seeing with Villa right now.
00:20:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
because when I am ready he kept repeating that like well they're getting tired the schedule is really unforgiving it's merciless and we've got a lot of guys who are injured but well those guys will be fighting for best places in in Europe um And of course this season they will be fighting for the trophy. How far are they going to go as far as Champions League goes? We really do not know. It really depends on the form of the day. It depends on the form of their opponents. But I really think that Aston Villa's squad is just not managing it as far as this as far as the stamina goes. They are pretty fatigued and they would just love for just some calamity to happen in the world so that they could just suspend the league for three weeks so that they could just recover, really. We do not wish that, but ah this is basically what they're hoping on.
00:21:46
Mikey
Yeah, um i think I think it's a really interesting point you make. Villa are currently sat at 9th and i don't I don't disagree with you. I think their form away from European football has definitely taken a dip.
00:22:00
Mikey
That said, I think that that it kind of orchestrates the beauty of the Premier League. that there There's a six point swing
00:22:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:22:08
Mikey
And if if results went their way after two games, they could be in the Champions League space and they could get up to fourth place. But the other way is they could quite happily be in 12th as well.
00:22:20
Mikey
and So they are sat in a point in a pendulum.
00:22:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:24
Mikey
um If I was a Villa fan, what would I prioritise? I think that that's a really difficult question. You want them to go as far as they can in the Champions League because it's been so long that you've been in there.
00:22:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:22:37
Mikey
So i think i think I think there's probably two approaches to that answer. The short term, you would want them to go as far as they can with Premier League and jeopardise their league form. Long term, if you want to build a club that is is classed as a European club, I would i would concentrate on Premier League ah football, building a squad and ensure that I've got that European space.
00:23:02
Mikey
and so be it to to the to the detriment of the former in the Champions League. ah
00:23:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:23:10
Mikey
But I think it's a really tricky dilemma that they're finding. And you're right, there's gaps definitely within the squad that are showing. And I think we'll probably see that with Forrest, you know, when and if they manage to hold on to this Champions League football. We've also got Bournemouth that could be talking about Europa League. So yeah, it's no easy feat getting there.
00:23:36
Mikey
But I think the hardest challenge for clubs is is maintaining it.
00:23:40
Mikey
and But you know maintaining a high platform is is is is easier said than done.
00:23:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:47
Mikey
and But platforms such as Zencaster do it without any problem whatsoever.
00:24:25
Mikey
Wow, shout out to the little um notes in the background there, beautiful work, I love that. oh And from one advert to, you know, and ah what we've what we've watched, ah we've just we we're we're recording this a day earlier, we've just witnessed United lose 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur.
00:24:48
Mikey
I'm not going to talk too much about it.
00:24:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:24:52
Mikey
There is fear for for losing my sanity. I'd love to take get your take on on the game, what you thought about the game.
00:25:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
um To be honest, I'm gonna surprise you and I'm not gonna moan too much about Manchester United because I did see some positives and I think positive number one ah Okay, I'll get to negative size but first I want to get the positives out of the way because I want to cheer up Plain and simple. So once I saw the starting lineup for Man United, I was happy that Ugarte is out of the starting lineup. I think that he did not bring anything to the team and he was not and like an added value. So I was i was actually glad to see Casemiro back in the starting lineup. As far as the injuries go, yeah, we can't get around that.
00:25:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that was basically the best starting lineup that we could produce, like with the squad that we have right now. And well, again, I've been saying this for so long, but that is still true. Remove Bruno Fernandez from the equation and the math just fails.
00:26:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Bruno was again the the guy, especially in the second half, who was pushing that United attack. Garnaccio, he was making the runs. I really liked how he was creating chances for United on his own. um But then again, he was like he was dreadfully missing.
00:26:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
and And that was like, that's the negative part that Garnaccio had so many opportunities and just bottled them all. Matta is the leaked, he had a good performance even than though there's a considered goal scored by Madison, I think it was his fault. Because if you were a defender, and all of a sudden, you get shocked that a forward of the opposite team is just get like, he's out of nowhere, out of nowhere appearing in your own penalty box.
00:26:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
unmarked, then you're in trouble. Because you're supposed to expect that a forward of the opposite team could be in that penalty box. So I think that goal wasn't the least. I might be wrong, but this is just how I saw it. Finally, United were attacking. I actually saw a team which wanted to attack, which wanted to be positive. And I think if we had Let me just look at the list of of missing players here, because I do not remember all of them off the top of my head. But if we had Lissandra Martinez fit, if we had even Mason Mound, if we had Ahmad Diallo, that was like the most important missing pause a a piece of a puzzle. If we had all those guys, even if they came on,
00:27:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like, ah do those for those final 30 minutes of the game, I think Tottenham would crumble and they would ah basically bottle it because they would just go from 1-0 to 1-2. I really think this is what would have happened, but unfortunately, we can't do that. Well, unfortunately for man-united fans, like, kudos to Tottenham because that is a victory that they actually needed. And um yeah, but there are some positives to take out of this game from man-united team, from man-united side.
00:27:56
Mikey
Yeah, I tend to agree with you. um I thought i don't don't think it was an awful watch, although it was at times and very challenging. I just think the level of quality is is is what what was let down today. Tottenham were there for the taking. I don't think that they they were a side that were very good.
00:28:18
Mikey
but And it was just that they just wasn't there wasn't was it enough quality on the pitch to make to make that count. um ah You start with your forward line. Xerxes and Highland, for me, i just don' i think I see elements of their game that in the future will be very good.
00:28:38
Mikey
and but the decision-making on the ball, and the speed of which then they move the ball on, it just it's so infuriating to watch. um and i just think I agree with Casamiro, but I also think you know he looks a little bit like an old man. He looks like he's always close to getting a red card. and He doesn't break the debt game up as he as it as well as he used to, in my opinion. ah Hence why,
00:29:08
Mikey
Fernandez had to be least so deep at times. um ah you know the The new signing looks awful. I can't say anything better. I've not watched him do anything today that I thought, you know what, I get that. and i just I'm a bit lost. I thought the back three played well.
00:29:29
Mikey
Oh Nana surprisingly looked a little bit more secure with his hands ah and yeah fair play to Tottenham they held on and maybe and has kept his job for another couple of weeks.
00:29:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and also, actually, I want to ask you about one united just just just quickly before me move on to some other things because we have to talk about relegation battle here. This upcoming summer will be huge, because let's face it, once this season is over, Ruben Amorim will ask for a lot of checks in Blanco.
00:29:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
he will ask for a lot of bags to put the stuff of all the of of all but to of the players stuff inside so that he could just send them packing because but there will be a revolution in United squad. So my question to you is, of course, if I can ask one, if you allow me, of course, ah is exactly how many players of the squad should be gone at the end of the season?
00:30:23
Mikey
Well, let's just take the the starting 11. You keep an honor. I would have, I would have not removed a hair, but that's a different story for another time. and Maswari, I think he's great. Harry Maguire, if you need him as an additional center back, keep him in the squad, ah delete, they won't get rid of ah coming into the team so soon. And I think actually isn't awful. They just, there's just a lack of pace for me with those two names that I've just read.
00:30:52
Mikey
um I know that you're not the lowest biggest fan and many of my friends aren't. I think he's a very consistent player. and Bruno Fernandes, Casimir will get rid of a dog who can go for me. Joshua Zirksi can go, a keyboard of Highland because I think there's potential.
00:31:12
Mikey
100% keeper of Gennacho because he will only get better when he's got time on his side and I'd love to talk you through the bench but I don't know any of them because they're all teenagers who I've never heard of or seen play because that is the state of the club at the minute.
00:31:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Of course.
00:31:28
Mikey
and So yeah you need a lot of money to fix a problem but i I think the one thing I do like is that there's a system and and there's an intent and if if if this can work
00:31:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:31:41
Mikey
and I think that'll be enough for United fans at the minute. have If they can gain a bit of consistency and an identity, then then it'll definitely feel a little bit more and on track.
00:31:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
By the way, like just just just one more quick question. ah When was the last time you saw ah just only one sub being delivered from your team? Because rub honest I do not remember the last time when I saw this little substitution in a game from one side.
00:32:04
Mikey
it's
00:32:11
Mikey
Absolutely. and and And that tells you how much Amarin knew of his bench. He had players on there that he was trusting in the coaching staff. I'm under no doubt about that.
00:32:21
Mikey
And you've got people on there that that need to be changed.
00:32:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:32:26
Mikey
Casamira can't carry a full 90 minutes. ah No wonder he was the person who came off. I don't know. Yeah, it's not a great it's not a great place for United fans, but I'm sure we'll talk about it again even more.
00:32:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:32:39
Mikey
and
00:32:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
This season just has to end from Man United perspective perspective, really.
00:32:41
Mikey
Yeah, for sure.
00:32:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
It just has to end and then full revolution, full steam ahead. And I wouldn't be surprised if 50% of the squad code would get rid of, like like like would be gotten rid of. I really wouldn't be surprised at all.
00:32:53
Mikey
No, no, no. Well, it remains to be seen. um But before we do jump on to our shout out for the weekend, let's hear a little bit more about Zenk. No, GSPM, Criker. You've sent me under talking about United. GSPM people.
00:33:46
Mikey

00:34:09
Mikey
Now, we finish today's podcast with a lovely little segment and that we've added in about standard performers, anything that we've noticed that we want to talk about, teams, whatever it is, that have caught our fancy and I would like to kick off and with the Egyptian Prince.
00:34:29
Mikey
ah blessing Manchester with three goals um and a performance that was was worth taking note in. I think he's played he's played very well since he's coming to the squad. I can see how he's adapted to the new system that Pep's trying to trying to create um and and yeah a massive shout out for him um getting a fantastic ah performance under his belt and and you know another fan favourite for the City fans.
00:35:01
Mikey
But while I'm on that topic, as always, I like to ask a quick quiz question. and So if I can find it, I am going to ask you a really quick one.
00:35:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Here we go.
00:35:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Uh-huh, here we go.
00:35:11
Mikey
so
00:35:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:35:14
Mikey
You've got 30 seconds to name as many players from February 2021 when this was taken.
00:35:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh god.
00:35:21
Mikey
ah There are 13 players to have scored five or more Premier League hat-tricks. So I want you to name as many as you can in 30 seconds for me.
00:35:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh no.
00:35:33
Mikey
Your time starts now.
00:35:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, God. Oh, no, you've just killed me. Oh, no. Okay. So, hmm. Okay. Let's just go for Erling Haaland. He must have scored a hat trick, if that was, of course, the question, if I if i remember still.
00:35:48
Mikey
what
00:35:50
Mikey
ah So, players that have scored five Premier League hat-tricks, think of massive strikers that have blessed the Premier League.
00:35:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Five per minute hat tricks.
00:35:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh goodness. Oh Oh god. Erling Halland, who knows, maybe... Oh god. You know what?
00:36:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah I really suck in this trivia.
00:36:09
Mikey
let me go
00:36:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
I really do suck in this trivia, sorry.
00:36:12
Mikey
like Let me rattle off a few names for you.
00:36:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:36:14
Mikey
Alan Shira, Dimitar Verbatoff, Harry Kane, Louis Suarez, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, Robin Van Persie, Ruud Van Mistelroy, Sergio Aguero, Thierry Henry, Wayne Rooney, and ah the oldest name on there, I think, is Ian Wright.
00:36:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
alllan
00:36:32
Mikey
I might be wrong about that. Not sure.
00:36:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know what? I think I misunderstood the question because I thought that you were asking me about like some recent guys and that's why I just shoot out Berlin Kahlo in Mohammed Saleh. I completely misunderstood the question.
00:36:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like it was like it could be of all time.
00:36:45
Mikey
a smart
00:36:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:36:48
Mikey
Yeah, yeah, my bad, but a little bit of trivia for anyone who's listening.
00:36:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right. mobnet
00:36:53
Mikey
It's incredible feat to score three goals in the Premier League, but to do it five times, it takes a lot of, a lot of effort.
00:36:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:36:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:36:58
Mikey
And Mamoush, and I completely agree with you earlier, Harlan will be one of those people on that list without a doubt ah very, very soon. So for me, that's the city takeaway.
00:37:10
Mikey
Mamoush is a prospect to be watched. ah What about you, Mikhail? Where would you go?
00:37:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know what, and just to add on to what you just said there about the Marmish performance, ah we have to talk about um newcastle's but Newcastle's approach to that game. Because I remember not too long, not too long time ago, I was praising Newcastle's approach to defending and the way how they neutralized Arsenal's offense was just a thing of beauty. And Eddie Howe was basically the master of that game because they did not allow for any space whatsoever for Arsenal. At this game, I do not think that the structure was destroyed. I just think that he wanted to go more offensive because he had a feeling, okay, Manchester City, they came on from this battle in the Champions League against Real Madrid. They're probably tired. They lost. Their morale is probably not as high, like it not in this position as it should be. But so come on, maybe let's just go for the kill. And I think that's what got them punished.
00:38:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
because if there's anything you know about Manchester City and Pep Guardiola is that you should never underestimate them. And this is exactly what happened. Marmush, three goals. Ilkay Gundogan out of all people with an assist. That is wow. Well, I'll be i'll be darned. let's cut it Let's put it this way. So yeah, great performance. And I absolutely agree with that shout out of the weekend.
00:38:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
And my shadow of the weekend would be something that we've already talked about, but it really needs to be underlined. Karou Mitoma's nightmare from, from the perspective of Chelsea fans, as he scores again, he just got the Chelsea's number. yeah I really, really like, just like we said, with the touch, with the goal, um that was really, really good performance for Mitoma. And I'm just really looking forward to what he's going to be doing.
00:39:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
in the next fixture. ah Well, fingers crossed that he will continue to have such amazing touches and such amazing goals. Yeah. And, uh, Oh, you know what? I still feel salty after this trivia, you know? Oh my God. It was such an easy question. I was just like, I don't know. And Wade Bruni, Dimitov, they were from the Man United squad, which I adored.
00:39:23
Mikey
Yeah, absolutely.
00:39:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
os ah I'm ashamed.
00:39:26
Mikey
Don't worry.
00:39:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Shame.
00:39:28
Mikey
Turn up next week and and you'll have a chance to redeem yourself, I'm sure.
00:39:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
i'll just I just hope that there will be a chance for redemption.
00:39:37
Mikey
