The Cheese Has Gone Moldy

Transcript

Speaker: Aloha and welcome back to a sobering episode of the Ohana Packers Edition podcast. The Packers laid an absolute dud on Thursday Night Football and fell to one and two. Um... Oh. who Whoa. You good over there?

Speaker: Yeah, my mic fell. yeah Just like the Packers fell. Um... Joe, we don't have to sugarcoat the opening it that much. There's not much to say. Before we do get into the segment, though, we will bring up.

Speaker: um It does not look like we're anywhere close to getting resolution on the Josh Jacobs situation. The news coming out this morning that the NFL is all is basically demanding to see the video footage that is reported as part of the the.

Speaker: the evidence in the case and it there's that weird situation where jacob's side wanted it sealed and then the witness the the um the um accuser yeah the accuser wanted it sealed i i'm not a legal expert this case is just so it seems so weird that so many things are happening on so many levels and the nfl in its a never-ending wisdom is taking the role of we'll give you a pass if the video shows nothing like that is what they are absolutely telegraphing at this point um well before we get into any of it i gotta to do something real quick yeah

Speaker: This is what held up the stop at the start of the episode?

Speaker: So, we almost lost the the whole show because of how that game went. So I had to do it real quick. You're lucky I couldn't get a video put together.

Speaker: Don't worry, don't worry. the The Wolverines did their best Packers impersonation, made every stupid mistake in the book. He had a fifth year senior spending the whole game begging for a taunting penalty and he gets it called on him at the stupidest worst moment of the game.

Speaker: Congratulations, though, Joe. That's a big win for Iowa. And I hate, like, no matter what team it is, I hate when the broadcast keeps bringing up the, this team hasn't won in this situation in 10 tries or whatever. the And it's just like, all right, they're going to just keep parading the Iowa hasn't won a Big Ten.

Speaker: top 10 opponent game in whatever many tries i'm like i don't even think it was that i think it was just the fact that they hadn't won in michigan in forever to they did both they did both yeah definitely did both of them but no i i mean that's honestly that's the type of game that you hope for in any situation where it comes down to the last i Well, I mean, think about it, Mike. if If the shoe would have went the other way, wouldn't you have said the same thing, that that's the type of game that you hope for, that it comes down to that last second, whether it's a pass breakup or a touchdown?

Speaker: After the Packers game, absolutely not. But that's what makes football exciting for the most part. It does. It Is that last second, whatever happens, happens. You know, we had that, or one of the games that I went to at Lambeau was that. It was the Chargers game back in 16 where Demaryius Randall had that last minute, um,

Speaker: or Pass breakup to seal the win. So, I mean, that's the type of thing that you like to see because that's what... When people say, well, why do you like football so much? much Well, that's the type of game that you like because it's a nail-biter all the way to the end.

Speaker: And... Yeah, so... one side has jubilation and the other side has heartbreak or just slam your nuts in the doorway kind thing. But this is a Packers podcast, and I guess it'll continue to be one since um neither of us has decided to phone in our chips and break up the break up the band at this point. But no, Joe and I joke about it as we might. It's all in good fun.

Speaker: i think what helps is... Oh, I was dead serious. Yeah. All right, I stand corrected. But um it is, like, just from a Packers point of view, just a crappy, crappy weekend of football because you just lay an absolute egg on Thursday.

Speaker: The league and Jacobs kick the can further down the road on that situation. Yeah. um And then one more piece of housekeeping. Goot did go out, signed Lakin Tomlinson.

Speaker: It is laughable seeing people react to it. in any other way the only reaction that packers fans should have at this point is okay they did something i still think they need to do more but they did something they they did something and they brought in a guy who has more career snaps than the rest of this o-line combined i i believe that's still the stat for for tom linson he's been around that long but um 34 years old so i would hope so he's a stopgap and it it's he's not a perfect player in any regard also don't like that he's like played 90 something percent of his snaps at left guard but you know what you couldn't leave the status quo the status quo you had to go out and do something if you're good accounts um and and if you and if you believe the other rumors they're they're still not done on that end but Right. Which which is all to me, that's all you need to hear as a Packers coach is like, OK, good. They've recognized that this is an issue and it's too late, probably. But at least they're not going down without trying something else like. Either that or Jordan went in there and said, you better do something, otherwise I'm not playing the rest of the fucking season. Well, he should have stood up and, you know, and we'll get into this in the moldy, but he should have slapped LeFleur when he told him to go back in the game in the fourth quarter. Because, like, it's like, Matt, you're not playing kind of thing and stuff. But, um...

Speaker: And we don't know that situation either. That could have been a whole Jordan thing too where I'm not... Right, right, right. I don't want to go out. You're going to let me play. We can only give our opinions and I just say that like that's one of those discretion is the better part of valor moments kind of thing from both ends of the...

Speaker: from both ends of the operation, but to not step on the toes of the um the topics, like I said, the two pieces of housekeeping, the Jacob situation remains in absolute limbo. It's in limbo beyond limbo for Inception fans. And then in a way signing. Just to go back to that since I interrupted it with my ah bragging. Because we we're giving it we're giving it all the attention it should deserve at this point. But no, I apologize, Joe. You definitely need to get your thoughts in on that one. um it It doesn't really hurt, though, because if I understand the the a commissioner's exempt list,

Speaker: If he continues to miss games on the exempt list, it goes against any future suspension. So if they give him like a six game suspension, these games count towards that suspension.

Speaker: So in the end, if he gets pulled off the exempt list and he's got a six game suspension, he's already served three of them. So he'd only have three more games to serve on it. It's not like he's on the exempt list and then he misses more game, you know, even more on top of being on the exempt list.

Speaker: not And don't get me wrong, that's not to say i condone anything, what he did, whatever. We still have no idea what the whole situation is. There was somebody who said that there was supposed ah supposedly a leak from the Brown County office that...

Speaker: There was other video that somehow did not make it into the hands where it followed them throughout the house and she was slapping the shit out of him and chasing him down and shit like that. And then it finally...

Speaker: peeked in the garage where he took her phone, smashed it, pushed her down or whatever it was. But, and I'm not even saying that. i'm just saying that that was a supposed leak that came out.

Speaker: um So we have no idea the situation. We have no idea what's going on with it. If it's as bad as it's being made out to be, then it doesn't matter whether he gets suspended or not. He should not be part of the team.

Speaker: But, If it's not, and it's something where he's being... Because I'm seeing conflicting sides ah in the fan base, which you're always going to have that. You have the people that, oh, well, he put his hands on on a woman, no matter what, that means automatically, you know, get him off the team. And then the other side, oh, well, you know, he just let him play, let him play, let him play.

Speaker: there's There's got to be a happy middle to it somewhere because... if he If it was a Ray Rice situation, done. Yeah. But obviously it's not a Ray Rice situation. Otherwise there wouldn't be this need from both sides to want to cover up the video. ah It really is such a weird... Like, that that part of the the turn in the case was such a weird turn.

Speaker: And, yeah, it it just opens up so many more rabbit holes of, like... it It just proves we're never going to know what the hell happened from start to finish in that situation. Unless that video somehow makes it out and we see a good portion of it.

Speaker: Yep, exactly. So, you know, we're not going to waste any more time speculating or anything, but that's where it is. And then with the Tomlinson thing... Yeah, they they're actually starting to admit they were wrong on some aspects.

Speaker: ah We kind of talked about this in one of our group chats. I still lean that they should have went more like a Evan Neal route because he's still young enough that even though he hasn't been good with the Giants, he's still young enough that he could still make a turnaround. Whereas Laken Tomlinson...

Speaker: is 34 years old, you're just hoping that he's going to be able to give you any last juice he's got left in the tank. of So, I mean, applaud them for admitting their mistake. I applaud them for going out. And like I said, supposedly this isn't the only move that they're looking at to make.

Speaker: So, you know, applaud them for that. I just, I think I would have went a different route than what they did. Yeah, and you know there's reports coming out that Zeitler is like holding out for someone one to give him 10 million, which...

Speaker: Just sounds like, dude, just say you retired. Like, Green Bay is desperate and no team in season is giving out that kind of deal to a street free agent. Like, it just doesn't happen.

Speaker: Like, I respect the leverage play, but it's it's never really happened. That when most of these guys who sign as street free agents, it's a... here's a vet minimum deal get you through the year and we'll see about you know maybe we'll extend you given you know if it goes well or something like that but hey if you're zeitler and you're like all right i'm ready to go but i might as well see what i can get kind of thing leave no leave don't leave meat on the bone kind of situation but As Joe mentioned, the reports are that and when when Joe says there's reports that they're doing more, we're not talking about signing Volsyn up from the practice squad or one of the the no, they're talking about like a legit of one or two more legitimate guys with NFL like true experience kind of thing. and you know That's talking about dipping in the toe. Maybe Neil, who has been you know the pack Packers have had overtures on when he was still with the Giants, is an option.

Speaker: Kennard is still on a practice squad. And then like just a total reclamation swing on a guy like Jedrick Wells or something like that. where Who knows? Maybe urge even the have sat in the game.

Speaker: but Even the trade route, I mean, there could be a couple of guys that are dangled out there in trade. I mean, who knows with the way the Browns are playing, maybe you can get old friend Elton Jenkins back. um You know, just one of those situations.

Speaker: Yep. So, remains to be seen. It feels like they're going to do more. And, yeah, yeah we'll see where that goes. But, all right, we've held on long enough.

Speaker: Let's get to go... This first segment should be pretty short, but let's get into this... Let's get into our three things. Mmm, cheese.

Speaker: there's only two of them There's only two of them that I can really think of. I'll go with i'll stick with my Iowa thing and Lucas Van Ness. He's continuing continuously proving that proving people wrong. I mean, how many people considered him a bust? and and you know Oh, well, we should have took this one over him or we should have took that one over him. And he's continuously showing this year that, hey, I'm here.

Speaker: This is me. I'm doing the thing that people had hoped for. I do have to rip on this a little bit because... um I was watching Lombardi's bar the other night and somebody said, well, is he just pulling a Nick Perry? And, you know, and the guys over there, Todd and Jimmy were like, well, you know, it's kind of sad that we continuously have to use him as a use Nick Perry as a benchmark because of, and the only thing I got to say is I don't think Lucas Van Ness is anywhere like a Nick Perry situation.

Speaker: Um, because... And in Jax defense, his body was spent by the time like, his contract year was like a dead cat bounce situation where he had just had so many injuries. i was honestly shocked Ted signed him to the extension because I was like...

Speaker: I get it. He finally broke out with 12 sacks or whatever, but like even then, he had the broken hand, and he had the club, and all that kind of stuff. And like you could just like by twenty seven the middle point of 2017, it was like, he's got nothing left in his lower body. And if like and I know people are like, oh, he robbed... I'm like...

Speaker: Like, it was one of those, you had to sign someone, that free agent pass arrest class wasn't great. and And like you're saying, Lucas has a lot. Lucas's situation is super niche where he was behind two guys that were getting paid a lot in Rashawn and Preston at the time was still getting paid a lot.

Speaker: um The three coordinators in four seasons. The unfortunate bad-timed injury. And, you know... Andy had a lot more flashes. He had a lot more flashes than Nick Perry did.

Speaker: And... and i get it. You never know how anyone's going to react when they get generational money and yada, yada, yada. But... At every step in his career, Lucas has only been termed as a severe workaholic, whether it was in high school, at Iowa, or in... Like, there's a reason that Parsons hitched his wagon to Van Ness right off the... Like, almost from the jump when he got into Green Bay. And, like, you have even, like, a beat writers like um Schneidman, Huber, and Bredel on their new show where Huber was, like...

Speaker: He was kind of in disbelief when Micah, like, off the bat was like, oh, yeah, you know, I think this room can be great, especially Lucas. And Huber was like, huh? So it just kind of goes to show, like, i think I understand the trepidation. I understand people pumping the brakes and stuff. But Lucas is finally getting his opportunity. And he the thing is, is's like, the the thing you worry about with a guy like him in a contract year is, like,

Speaker: he has He has flashes. Like, there's a three-sack game, and then there's a nothing game, and then there's a... But it's not a contract here. but And you're right, and it's not a... This is the the negotiation year kind of thing. up But he has consistently been bringing it every game. And to the point where not just the Packers beat guys, but like Nate Tice and like the the national level folk are like, this defense looks different when 90 is on the field versus 90 is off the field. And that...

Speaker: Like you said, like you brought up, like, that is the barometer for like, okay, this guy is worth signing an extension for. Like, Rashawn hit that point and then his lower body just gave out after he signed the deal. You know, we can say why and whatever. Rashawn is more similar to a Nick Perry because Rashawn had fewer flashes and then he had like that one really, really good year.

Speaker: and then he just kind of ah went downhill after that. Whereas, like I said with Lucas, Lucas had a lot of flashes but wasn't getting the playing time. And then when he finally was starting to have his breakout is when he had that injury.

Speaker: And now we're seeing his complete... oh And again, this isn't his contract year. Next year, technically, is his contract year, being his fifth-year option was picked up. um so The ultimate irony is that his career has almost to a T followed um Aaron Kamp. Just in terms of like his...

Speaker: Development and breakout in terms of how it was like and and it's different because Aaron was like a fourth or fifth round pick so like you can't really compare it but but it is just funny that like an Iowa guy 20 years later is like oh in year four it's like the light went on the opportunity met You know like physical and mental maturation in the in the scheme and all that kind of stuff and I'm happy for him like I like we said it all the time like you know I was shocked we didn't take Christian Gonzalez just because I thought corner was such a bad need in that 2023 draft.

Speaker: But Lucas was the guy after that. I was like, yeah, that's the second guy i would take if I was in their position. Like, and that's why I've never had a problem with the pick. I've always been super supportive of him. And like,

Speaker: Sure, like, probably been biased towards, like, he needs time and stuff, but, like, there's a lot more nuance to his situation than a lot of people have wanted to give him, and a lot of the circumstances have been out of his control.

Speaker: And he was their best edge rusher at the end of last season after Micah's injury, so... BD is me it's main thing, like you pointed out, it's nice to see that it has carried over to this season, that he is again producing well, again without Micah.

Speaker: I don't know when it's going to be, especially if this team is just like ass for the next month, but I do want to see what it looks like with him and and Micah on the field. You know, a lot of the stuff that we talked about with what we were hoping to see with Rashawn and Micah on the field.

Speaker: think we're actually going to get more of that with Lucas and Micah on the field because Lucas does rush really well from an interior guard position. And I do have a moldy that's going to build off of Lucas's game. It's not directly on Lucas. It's an NFL rule thing and stuff. But Lucas, just all suffice it to say, Lucas should have had a sack coming out of this game.

Speaker: So I'm going earmark that one for later. But yeah. The only other thing I'm going to add is... I'm tired of everybody saying that Micah Parsons is the ah the president of the Lucas Van Ness fan club.

Speaker: Because I've been day one ride or die. And, you know, I even have to say that when he was drafted, I was up in Green Bay that following June.

Speaker: They still didn't have his jerseys out in the pro shop. I had to have mine custom made. So my jersey is even pre-Pro Shop jerseys.

Speaker: So if anybody deserves president of the Lucas Vaness fan club, it's this guy right here.

Speaker: Yep, you do deserve it. I'm vice president. I called it because because i was I was happy celebrating that that selection in 2023. And then I think the only other fresh for this game is Matthew Golden continued to show that he totally is was worth the first round pick last year, has been worth all the hype he got over this offseason and preseason.

Speaker: And finally, he got the monkey off his back for that first touchdown. um Just put everything on display in this game. um Got the Packers offense going with that side adjustment on um when he flipped his head around and um caught Jordan's pass going down the sideline. um His touchdown was an excellent route. That's like a route Jordan used to run, basically, to get touchdowns from that, like,

Speaker: It's not a slant, it's more like a post, but it's not... It's in that, like, in-between between a slant and a post. So I think we deserve a pat on the back that we kind of called it in our over-unders last week.

Speaker: And, um... Like... It's really important that Golden continues to establish himself. Especially given some of the guys we're going to bring up in different segments of this show.

Speaker: But, um... to That game on Thursday is the kind of stuff why a lot of people are going to say that Christian should be wide receiver one. No. Golden is your, you need your wide receiver one to be able to do wide receiver things on every play.

Speaker: Watson, therere and I cannot spell this out any different for people. There's a lot of people who are supposed ball doors who, for whatever reason, cannot disconnect the two and admit there are two very different things.

Speaker: Watson can be your guy that when the opposing team goes into their in into their defensive meeting room, his name is on top of the board. And I have... he He should, because he is the type of height, weight, speed athlete who should give defensive coordinators cold sweats. Because you saw it week one, he takes a... like a shit Not a shell, but an intermediate cross route, cuts across the field, and he's up the sideline, and no one has a chance on him. Those are the kind of plays that DCs are like...

Speaker: Like, what are we going to do about that? On a down-to-down basis, he's not going to separate. You saw it on the first drive of the game or whatever it was where he goes to run the out route. Jordan's pass was like a foot off kind of thing.

Speaker: But Christian, and this is like, I'm going to dabble into this more later. Run the fucking route instead of trying to run into the guy to create separation. kind of thing like it's It's that difference in nuance where it's like, yes, Christian can be the guy that you want opposing D coordinators to worry about start to end.

Speaker: Golden is the guy who on any play is like, we need five yards on a slant. Matt is running it. We need someone to go down the field and create um create the levels with ah with a mesh concept or to run a dig exactly at 50 yards.

Speaker: That's Golden's book. That's not Reed. That's not Watson's book. That's Golden, and that's why he is the wide receiver one for this offense. I don't know if who's going end up leading the team. You know, Watson should run away with touchdowns this season.

Speaker: But Golden should lead the team in receptions. And by that by that virtue, possibly yardage. But it'll be tight because Watson's going to get all the big, big plays in this offense. But Golden in just...

Speaker: just asserting, like just proving a lot of the stuff we were hyping him up over the offseason true with, you know, three really good games for himself to start the season. Well, and you forgot another first for him. This was his first career 100-yard game.

Speaker: So, you know, again, he's another one that I'm a ride or die for. ah i really like what he brings. He's... I think he gets too much flack for his rookie year.

Speaker: you know, with the quote-unquote, you know, mental lapses and stuff like that. I don't think they were so much his mental lapses as it could have been other people's mental lapses and maybe certain coordinators not, ah you know, relying too much on the quote-unquote veteran more than than the rookie.

Speaker: um It makes me wonder what kind of season he would have had last year if they would have used him more. ah but you know it is what it is there is one other one i'm just going to mention real quick and and i'm going to give it a fresh because oh You know, he kind of came out of nowhere, and that's J. Michael Sturdivant. He's been playing tremendously during on special teams, and, you know, this week he got his first three real catches in ah in a NFL game. He didn't put up a ton of yards. There's only 22 yards, but, you know, and he UDFA.

Speaker: Catching what's thrown to him in an NFL game, carving out a role on special teams, like you said, yeah, it deserves praise. So yeah, I'm going to give him that, especially, you know, what was it we were talking about, about him, you know, in the pre-draft process, you know, he only flashed during what his freshman year, and then it just really wasn't there. Well, now he's on an NFL team on a 53 man roster, and he he's really carving out a niche role for it. If he continues like this,

Speaker: Next year, this you know theoretically, this could be Bo Melton's last year one way or the other if J. Michael Sturtevant really takes that rollover because ah he's really been producing a lot. He may not have like a Bo Melton speed, but he's already doing a little bit more than Bo Melton. he's He's showing himself as a better gunner, and now he's starting to get some action in-game.

Speaker: So I've got to give him his props for that. Yep, definitely deserves it. And um the talent is there. Like, it's clear as crystal. So that was always the thing is, like, yeah and it kind of goes back to the golden thing last year is it's, like, this is a team that, you know, to some degree has playoff aspirations and at some, you know, whether whether it's realistic or insanity, believes they're a Super Bowl contender. And it's, like, how much time can you give to...

Speaker: rookies to figure it out on the fly and stuff. In Golden's case last year, there weren't enough injuries, whereas in Sturdivant's situation, there are enough injuries because, you know, you don't have Wicks and Dobbs anymore, and then Reid is out for unknown amount of time, so Sturdivant is, and Savion's on IR, so Sturdivant is wide receiver three at this point, and Like you said, it's nothing flashy, but it's nice to see that, hey, he caught the ball when it got thrown to him in unideal circumstances.

Speaker: and then um I just wish he would use more of his hands than continuing the body catches.

Speaker: Yeah. So, yeah, I agree. Mike's getting beamed to the mothership, so give him a minute. Yeah. trying to think about two things at once, but no, he definitely deserves his praise. Because yeah, like we we had our concerns like there's there's talent. There's been talent there since 2022 when he walked on to this, you know when he was playing for Cal at Notre Dame and having a breakout game in his first college football game.

Speaker: And then it was like, when that's your highlight of your whole career four years later, it's like, okay, like what are we getting here and stuff? And I think the most impressive part to me is he is not playing in the role that he did in college. In college, he was used like Marcus Colston used to get used on the Saints or like how the Packers used Lazard where he was a power slot player. Here, he's just an outside Z or X receiver um to spell snaps when either Watson or Golden go into the slot.

Speaker: And so even more so, it's like, okay, like and, you know, we'll see where the season takes him. But for him to be, you know, doing a cameo appearance and making contributions on offense while also playing, you know he's drawn two penalties, I think, as a gunner. And, um put you know, you'll never know whether it was him or the weather or whatever, but he was the closest gunner in position when the Jets guy dropped the two punts last week. So, I mean...

Speaker: like and he's constantly the first one to downfield on punt coverage so that speaks for something if you get jeff janice on punt coverage and like geronimo allison um impact on offense that's a heck of a job by the offensive staff to get him up to speed and especially like i said when some people are going to come up in the later parts of this show and reed is unfortunately out for unknown amount of time so um That's all I got for fresh. You got anything else or you want to go to stale?

Speaker: I'm trying to go through all this stuff to see if there is anything else. i I don't know if it's necessarily fresh, but Javon Bullard has continued his, you know, his play.

Speaker: i mean, it's hard to say that about this defense with what they gave up, but he's still flying around and, and and sma And we'll praise Smack too, because the block field goal was not his fault.

Speaker: Like, they yeah fucked up the blocking scheme, and it's not even the kick was low. You can't kick when there's a 6'4 guy right in front of the ball kind of thing and stuff, but... and Well, not just that, but they did it. but ah You know, it was a Demoski that pointed this out. They only had like 10 guys on kick coverage.

Speaker: So, yeah, that puts another ah thing there. But it's hard to put him anywhere because he only had the one attempt.

Speaker: So, i you know, i'm not I can't put him in fresh, but he's definitely not going to be a moldy or ah ah stale. he's He's kind of like in the process of becoming cheese more than anything else. He's still milk. milk.

Speaker: But yeah, we can jump into something else. So what's this stale shit? So for mine, it's just the growing pains with Cissé. And, um you know, you had like the illegal contact penalty.

Speaker: um You had those run reps where he's finding out this isn't South Carolina and you can't get away with like jumping inside of blocks or not maintaining proper leverage on plays and stuff like that.

Speaker: It's gonna get, you know, there's gonna be people who are gonna call it out and say, you gotta just keep him on the field. This is part of the... Who else are you gonna play? Right, exactly.

Speaker: um At least he's trying. Like, like he's trying and... And, and ah you know even the play where he goofed the coverage, and I don't even know if it was necessarily him, but the one where he gave up the long pass to London because he, like, passed off the— That looks like one where it's like, okay, rookie, I know it's probably cover two, but you got to know what the game situation is, and you got to just play the deep route. Like, the short stuff isn't going to, like, be the thing that kills you here and stuff.

Speaker: But even that one runs Drake London down when he had, like, a 10— when he was 10 yards behind him and stuff. all you know you don't want it to be on film but this is all good coaching film where it's like it's correctable stuff nothing here is like oh like his athleticism isn't playing up oh his frame is too small like it's it's none of that it's it's not a it's not a matter of physical inability it's not a matter of you know being gun-shy, like, um you know, being... It's inexperience. It's inexperience, and that's why it's in stale, because it's like, we knew at some point that this happens for all rookies, where...

Speaker: Golden's going to run the wrong route on a play. um Lucas is going to shed the wrong guy and stuff. Bullard is going to think he has the wrong exchange. Rookies have this happen all the time.

Speaker: It just, of course, looks worse when the whole team plays like ass and stuff, but this is where you have to have a little nuance and a little bit of patience with it. it's Like I said, I don't want to say it's good, but it's better to have these mistakes come up in September where it's addressable early and you can use it as teaching tools for the rest of the season. So um that's that's my stale there.

Speaker: It's just Cissé's learning curve. And it it was going to happen at some point. And it's just unfortunate that it propped up in the way it did in this game. And that's what I've been saying all year so far is, you know, he's going to have his growing pains. He's going to have great moments. He's going to have bad moments.

Speaker: and That's just rookie play. But again, who else are you going to play? I mean, they've already got Keyshawn Nixon out there who, you know, as as the great poet Charles Barkley would say, terrible.

Speaker: um and St. Juiced, I don't think really got any playing time on the defense. um And then you've got Carrington, who, yeah, may be decent in coverage for the most part, but isn't isn't physical at all, so... It's growing pains.

Speaker: I'm gonna put this one out there as a stale, and people are gonna be like, what the fuck are you talking about?

Speaker: But I'm going to put it as stale just because it's not a Packers person. But I've got to give props to CJ Henderson for his play.

Speaker: He was all over the field for the Falcons, making plays looking like the first round pick that he was. And the only reason it is a stale is because he is a Falcons player.

Speaker: if this if If he was on the Packers player, this would be an automatic fresh, But because he's a Falcons player and it was a going against the Packers, it's got to be a stale. It's definitely not a moldy because of anything like that. But, you know, I really got to give it to him. He was flying all over the place.

Speaker: I mean, he even had Kirk Herbstreit and um Al Michaels, you know, praising him. And we're like, this, we've never seen him play like this. And, you know, Because he was a bust when he was with the Jags. Like, he was a disappointment with the Jags. And, you know, i shoot, I can't even tell you what year. He's got to be around year nine or something like that at this point. Eight or nine at this point. I don't know.

Speaker: I think he's played for, like, all the Florida teams at this point. Well, he's definitely played for the Bucs because I think he went to the Bucs after the Jags. 2020 draft. So this is only year seven? Seven. Okay.

Speaker: I'm off a couple. But, yeah. Like you said, unfortunate because it was against us, but we're we have to scrape the barrel on a game this bad for things to fit all the categories. So we'll search high and low.

Speaker: Turn 28 in legit three days.

Speaker: so yeah and so i you know that's why i said i got to give it to him and the only reason it is a stale is just because it it was going against the packers and you know i can't put a fresh tag on on the enemy all right are we ready for the ranting and the and the and you don't have any other stale ones do you have any others I'm going to throw the special teams in there just because this is the first week that it's been piss poor.

Speaker: um This looked like a Basaccia ran special teams more than Cam Aker. And even Aker was pissed. you You could just... He was cussing and everything else on the sideline. It's nice to see some emotion from your coordinator, though. like yeah like It's not going to fix anything in-game, but at least it's like, oh...

Speaker: He's clearly saying we coach this differently and you should know better. like you know what I mean? kind of things and And at least he didn't put would go full Gannon and slap somebody. So, you know, I mean, got to give him credit there. But just the special teams as a whole, because, you know, they did give up some ah kick return and punt return yardage. Yeah.

Speaker: Of course, the block field goal going only against 10 rushers. So, yeah, i got to I got to put that in the stale for the moment because it it is... It was a piss-poor performance for the special teams.

Speaker: right. You got anything else you want to throw in there? Nope. We can just move on along. It's a moldy cheese. ah

Speaker: Alright, where to begin? um i mean, obviously the O-line is going to be thrown in there. ah i don't know how much more we can really rag on it because this seems like a week-in, week-out thing. um It definitely did not help.

Speaker: And I know even I was happy that Burton got in, but you just could tell, like

Speaker: the The decision to have him start all the games in the preseason, get all the reps with the starters when when Banks wasn't in there, and then to reverse course and put Jennings in there totally screwed him up to start the season.

Speaker: He looked lost in a way that he never looked lost in the preseason. Like, yeah, he gave up pressures in preseason because, you know, he got big boyed and things like that, or like vets did moves that he was never going to see in college and stuff.

Speaker: But like, he looked plain lost on Thursday night. And it's a combination of, okay, like, yeah, you're starting, but we have no practices, so you're not going to get to do any live reps.

Speaker: And then he had no live reps the first two weeks because, oh, we decided that we're wasting them on Banks who we don't even know if he's going to dress on Sunday. And, oh, sha ah Donovan Jennings just magically looked better in practice.

Speaker: I don't know who to blame here. I hate that part of it is going on my former Wolverine and Stenevich, but the whole situation on O-line has just been totally It's been a clusterfuck and it's just been mishandled so many ways from Sunday. Well, I'm going to step in and say I am going to blame coaches on it, whether it's Stinovich, whether it's Budkis. I'm saying I don't know which one to fucking blame at this point. Right, right. They all deserve blame at this point. And I have to say that is pure, simple what it is right now.

Speaker: When guys don't know who they're blocking, that's a coaching thing. And I know a couple of the big videos, pictures that people are posting out there as proof as to how shitty the offensive line, when you've got three guys blocking one person and then you've got two free runners, that shows that you don't know who what your assignment is. That's a coaching situation.

Speaker: And you hear it when you hear like Mike Wall, just his week one recap, i don't even want to watch his recap for this game, his week one recap video was just an hour-long sigh. like ah Just an hour-long disappointed sigh.

Speaker: And you hear it from Bulaga on the Homer show and... To cap on that... I want to throw another thing into Moldy beat since you brought up his name.

Speaker: ah What's he on? He's on ESPN Milwaukee, right? Yeah. What the hell is the situation where you have somebody talking and then the the video is just him picking shit out of his hand?

Speaker: Cut to somebody else's fucking camera. you don't I mean, he's not even the one talking. So, yeah, i just had to throw that in there. yeah But like you just hear these former Packers greats, like just some of the most elite linemen who have come through. And I get it, like but the the way that like the the three of them, Tosher, well Tosher, like he is the most self-made of those three guys. Whereas like Wall and Bulago were more like differing degrees of like, this was ideal cut from kind of

Speaker: Well, technically, couldn't you say Wall was self-made too? Because wasn't he a ah comp pick? Or not a comp pick, supplemental draft pick. No, he was a comp pick. Or supplemental pick, yeah. I guess so in a sense, but like, he was good enough that the Packers were like, we'll use next year's pick to pick this guy kind of thing and stuff. Right, but how many guys come out of the supplemental draft and succeed? All degrees of self-made. But the way that they're talking about it, it's not like the joke about Jordan Catcoach because he's like, just dunk over everyone kind of thing.

Speaker: The way that Wall, Bulaga, and Toscher are talking about it like the basics are all fucked up on this line. And the only bit of defense I can give my guy Senevic is he's not the O-line coach anymore.

Speaker: And like... This is a And, you know, he deserves some blame because he's the OC and he's been there longer. But, but, Kiss. Like, my God. This line has just deteriorated from the moment you took over as O-line coach.

Speaker: And that, in turn, goes back on the floor because I've said it since the day. And like I said, Stenevich is a Michigan legend. He's a two-time All-Big Ten first-team left tackle from Michigan. And said it at Well, you know, maybe they needed a coach from a winning team.

Speaker: yeah who Okay, we'll go hire Brian Perrins.

Speaker: Hey, but I always said, if you as long as he's not calling plays, let him coach. That's true. Yeah. But um I said it at the time, you cannot elevate him to um offensive coordinator.

Speaker: I don't care that he took interviews with the division rival. You got to call that bluff. and say okay you're gonna hide there are very few offensive coordinators who are offensive line coaches at heart and it's because and this is not to be a little off it but offensive line coaching is such a niche thing that they need all their folk like you don't give a shit what's happening on the outside of your play maybe you care about where the running back exactly is and where the quarter how far the quarterback is dropped that's your level of detail outside of the five guys on that o-line

Speaker: And that's why I, at the time, I was like, when people were like, oh my God, they're interviewing Stinovich. I'm like, who gives a shit? Like, like I'm sorry. Like, you got to call that bluff and be like, all right, Bears, if you want to hire our O-line coach as your coordinator. Because the one thing I said is like, Stinovich, his, and I've seen some people push back on like, oh, was he really that good at Look at where that line was in 2017-2018 and then going, yes, part of it was personnel, but he took a rookie Elton Jenkins, revitalized Bulaga to a degree, turned Billy Turner into a guy who could play a solid right guard and then give a solid play on offensive tackle for a year and a half.

Speaker: And... it's not his fault that bola or that it's not his fault that bulaga left in free agency lindsley left in free agency lindsley's replacement missed the middle third of his rookie season and um bakhtiari and jenkins blew their knees out within a year of each other like everything else made yo schneiman a viable nfl player he had us excited about alex light for a couple months for god's sake Since he left the O-line room, every day... And we can go back to the minutiae of, like, John Runyon Jr. went from a bright spot and a potential future piece on the line to a guy they were trying to replace every year until he finally left Green Bay.

Speaker: And... Like... Okay, maybe Steno needs to go too. Whatever. like I can't say he's not part of the problem. But the guy who's coaching the O-line, there's a definitive drop-off point from 22 on where this line play has just precipitously fallen off a cliff.

Speaker: So that's one side of it. And then the other freaking side of it is the guy who didn't fire his ass this offseason. And you can go above it and say, you know, and I don't know what policy and Gutekunst told him. I don't know if Gutekunst has the space to tell him to do something anymore or if he's still even with, you know, that whole...

Speaker: ah structure where like um how Murphy had it we're like Murphy Guttekunst and um um or no um Guttekunst um Ball and LeFleur were like three like points of the triangle kind of thing and stuff like that but That was one of our points of like consternation over LaFleur coming back was like, so you're extending him and you're not making him make changes on this offensive staff? Like, you know, the defensive one, it's like, okay, Halfley left, so you had to replace that anyway. But like, the fact that you made no changes when you had issues all, you not not all, you but like, yes, guys got injured and stuff, but you had issues on offense and you decided, nah, I'm gonna run it back.

Speaker: And it's like,

Speaker: Again, and I'll just dovetail this into the LeFleur thing. It's...

Speaker: Jets game did nothing for him. He's still the same guy. i said it right after the... like the It's the story of LeFleur's career. You have... You're supposed to get off the field. Hawks get called for a pretty bullshit roughing the passer penalty. Especially when you consider what happened to Jordan just in this fucking game.

Speaker: But... What happens immediately after? The defense gets beat like a friggin' drum and Bijan starts to explode and go supernova immediately after. And that's the LeFleur thing, is it's like any time one game-shifting play happens, the team just turtles. And it hasn't mattered who's at quarterback,

Speaker: I have to, in a way, yes, but I can't fully blame the defense on anything that happened to him. and i'm I'm saying this is a LeFleur, like this is LeFleur, this is a system systemic team mentality problem that has happened again and again and again under LeFleur.

Speaker: I know they've had times where they've come back and won, but... The vast majority... And you saw it. They had the stat where it's like... They're like 1-10 under LaFleur when they're... Or they're 1-17 or something like that when they're down 10 at half.

Speaker: And it's like... And... And... Well, and then there's the other stat. And I almost... slapped I could have reached through the phone and slapped him for putting this out just before. But I think Easton Butler...

Speaker: posted it where they're like three and eighteen on Thursday night games. And it was something where it was to do with Thursday night games and they were like three and eighteen or whatever it is. The overtime. Coming off overtime. Coming off overtime. And like, that just shows you're ill-prepared.

Speaker: Yep. ah yeah What is it that you're not doing in those? And then I caught part of his presser that night and he said, well, we're going to give the guys three days off and and fuck that. know You get your ass out there and you start, okay, I'm going to give them 24 hours, but after that piddly ass performance that you guys had,

Speaker: You don't have to physically practice, but your asses are all going to be in film session. like well no i'm making We're doing gassers. We're doing laps. We're doing stairs. I don't care what it is. you guys got to know there is no relax after a performance like that.

Speaker: Yeah. Because they're... I know the CBA makes it hard to do that these days, but, like, and i I don't know how the rules exactly work, but, like, if you practice after the Thursday night game, I don't think it counts as a practice. There's some weird-ass rules about it because, like, um because you didn't actually practice before the game, and then what happens after the game between the game and the next week, like, the NFL pretends it didn't happen kind of thing. So, yeah, I agree with you. Like, you had to be doing something. Like, none of this 72 hours of get off your feet. Like, you can get treatment and watch film at the same time, goddammit.

Speaker: Like... I don't think you deserve treatment. You just fucking get out there and do your shit, you know? And that's the thing that, like I said, and I'm going to keep going back to what Blaga, Tosher, Wall, even TJ Lang to an extent. I know he was more talking about, like, defend your fucking quarterback point and stuff, but, like...

Speaker: And Bakhtiari has tweeted about it. like They're all saying, they're like, guys, you guys are fucking up the basics. It's not even like the hardest stuff. You guys are just fucking up the total basics.

Speaker: And that's how you get Jordan almost dead on a near fumble plate. You know, the the one that's reviewed and stuff. like That's how shit like that happens where Jordan is just going to get decked and stuff.

Speaker: And like, it just cannot, it can't continue. Like, it just absolutely can't continue this way. And like I said, there's no good answers at this point, but I am glad that Gudikund's on his end. And like you said, like, okay, yeah, we put our eggs in baskets that we did, but they're not, the the baskets have holes in them. So we're going to try and get new baskets and new eggs at this point. And they might be rotten and the baskets might suck too, but we're at least trying on our end.

Speaker: And To kind of go on your point about the post-game presser, for LeFleur to come out and act angry about, like, being questioned about changes on the O-line, dude, this is your fault.

Speaker: Like, in in a direct or indirect way, you are partly to blame here because Buttkiss is your hire. He is your not fired and replaced.

Speaker: Um... We'll never know how it happened, but I cannot sit here and believe that Banks did not come with a LeFleur push because he talked to his buddy who Banks played for before he came here.

Speaker: And the get bigger on O-line, that's not a Gutekunst thing. Gutekunst is from the, we're going to get athletic guys who can pass protect and we're going to figure out how to do the run game.

Speaker: And that's why, like, they might not be able to run block for shit at times over the past 30 seasons, but they could protect the fucking king quarterback because in Green Bay, you knew where the bread was buttered. This is the first time in, like, there's been, yeah since the since the um the turn of the century, there have been two seasons where the O-line has looked anywhere and it hasn't reached this.

Speaker: But there have been two seasons where the O-line was any sort of incompetent like this. One was 2005 when they jettisoned Wall and um Rivera. They let Rivera go in free agency and they cut Wall because Thompson had to cut the salary cap situation down.

Speaker: And the second one was 2017 when Byron fucking Bell was playing right guard for the Packers. And... Somehow you're left with this situation, which is worse than those two. Like, you know, if it's like a, you know, when you multiply percentages and it's like, that was a 40% line and that was a 30% line. If you multiply those two together, it's still not as low a percentage as as shit as this old line is. And like, they did the stat at the end of the game where it's like,

Speaker: they are so they are winning in pass protection, which means your quarterback doesn't die at the end of the play. They're winning on 16% of the plays. One in six. One in six fucking plays on pass plays, the Packers are winning.

Speaker: That is down from what they went into the game at, because I think they went in at like 18% or 19%, and it's just Goud has to live with some of this too. He's not absolved, but at least he's doing something about it. But like you said, for LeFleur to come out and be like,

Speaker: obstinate and angry about being asked such a question in the in the it's like dude get the fuck over yourself this is your fall this is your bed you made it you're lying in it whether you think you are or not and like it's just the same old disappointing shit from the floor and instead of just a disappointing playoff loss he could do he could david carr love this season and you're seeing some of it happen you know that some people were upset about the early throws in the game and like you know and everyone points out the one where golden ran the stop and go he has to throw the ball like that because if he floats that ball baits is coming for the interception and then he just hap you know he makes the good enough throw to golden on the very next play that golden turns into the 45 yard catch but

Speaker: Jordan had the play late in the game where, again, and this is another part on the low floor, Fran. I don't know why the fuck he's in the game at that point in the fourth quarter. Because, okay, the whole let's get in a rhythm thing, that's fine if, like, you've just been turning the ball over, stupid shit has happened to that point in the game. But when it's happened because you can't fucking protect the quarterback, you...

Speaker: cannot say, oh, we're gonna get in a rhythm for a following game. Yeah, I know it got gold in his touchdown. Great. Like I said, I'm happy he got that monkey off his back. But that whole drive, Jordan was running for his fucking life. He had the play where you almost threw the fucking... It wasn't a pick six speed because it would have been a lateral, so it would have been a fumble return for touchdown. But he had the one where he bounced it off the guy's arm and Tucker made one of his few catches on the night.

Speaker: Your ass is coming soon, Tucker. hum And like, it's just a bunch of like, it's just a bunch of bullshit. And like, there's a part of me that's happy he threw an interception at the end because um like, if he throws a touchdown there, LaFleur is like, oh yeah, see, like we got into rhythm and we scored some more points and like, and it worked.

Speaker: But, like, Love took all those extra hits, those extra, like, seven or eight hits he took in the game to throw an interception because you're an idiot, Matt. Like, fuck off.

Speaker: Don't give us attitude. you don't You can be upset about how bad it went, but don't give lip service to the reporters who are asking warranted, fair questions like...

Speaker: The only thing that I'll say about it is, i mean, in a way, what did you expect him to say? i mean, he's not going to be... I say this a lot about... And this is why I say press conferences just need to be done and over with. Because you never get straight answers out of anybody. You're never going to hear him come out and say, yeah, that son of a bitch is getting fired tomorrow. And, you know, he's no longer part of this team.

Speaker: And we're, you know... I'm not talking about the coaching part. I'm not talking about... I'm just saying that that's the problem with with press conferences is, you know, you're not going to get him to come out and trash his own team.

Speaker: You know, he's going to say, I'm disappointed. He's going to say, you know, obviously the cliched, we didn't execute properly. We're going to go back and watch film on it. He's never going to come out and say that son of a bitch is never going to play ah another down in this game and for this team or this this asshole is getting fired tomorrow.

Speaker: That's the whole problem with press conferences anymore. They're this just canned answers. Even though I give credit to a lot of these guys asking solid questions, but you're never going to get true answers out of them.

Speaker: It's just from a guy like LaFleur. Right. and So there's no need to continue the charade with with press conferences. So, I mean, that's the only thing I got to say about that is...

Speaker: You can be as frustrated as you want about him being indignant about his answers, but you're never going to get a true answer out of them yeah anyway. That true, yeah. So, I mean, what's the point? and even bought That's why 90% of the time I don't even watch press conferences.

Speaker: Because i think the only reason... that I just catch the tweets after. yeah Right, the only reason that I watched that night was because I was sitting at work anyway, and I was like, ah, fuck it, I'll fucking turn it on for background noise or whatever.

Speaker: But I just... And like i said, the only thing that really bothered me that i actually listened to with the press conference was, we're giving these guys three days off after this. Well, no, I'm sorry. 24 hours, at most, but...

Speaker: you know whatever so i just I know i interrupted your rant, but I had to throw that in there because I just, I don't see the point of press conferences anymore. Yep.

Speaker: I know that's your soapbox to stand on. And honestly, kind of agree. It's like, no one wants to do them and stuff. And I give Jordan credit for having the attitude of like, Hey, 2023, did it start? Well, we were able to turn it around. i have faith in the guys like heard what you needed to hear from your quarterback.

Speaker: Um, Who's even is that is it yours or mine? I don't even know where we are. that's mine because you continued your friend on. And I'm just going to go with Tucker. Tucker, you know, I love there for the longest time. I love the guy to death. But this year has been super weird with him.

Speaker: um You know, I understand he came off the ACL and he's doing, you know, what he is, but I'd have to go through and i don't know if I can click on this just to see it. And I'll get to the main talking point with him for in a minute, but...

Speaker: you know He's only got 106 total yards so far this season. Again, that can go with you know the offensive line not holding up to allow Jordan to throw the ball or whatever. but um you know Against Atlanta, he had four receptions on eight targets. Against And the four were all drops, basically. Yeah, he had two receptions for on three targets against the Jets, and one of those was a drop. And then he had three receptions on six targets against Minnesota, and I would have to say the majority of those were drops, too. So, I mean, so far this year you had...

Speaker: little or no, you know, what was the point of you rushing back from your ACL injury if this is the performance we're going to get out of you. And then for you to come out and say what you did about the fans booing at Lambeau, that just adds to it. I mean, I understand you don't want to hear the boo birds in your home stadium.

Speaker: But to come out and say, you know, that was a complete preppy answer. i don't care what you want to say, that was a preppy answer was, oh, well, like that's going to make us play any harder or play you know, make us do this.

Speaker: You should want to play harder and not want to hear the boo birds. Disappointing because he's not the guy expected to make that comment. like You what mean? Right. yeah And that's why I said so far this year he has been super weird on stuff.

Speaker: um It even kind of went back to when I was up at training camp and I was watching him interact with fans. It was like completely... at odds with things and I don't know, you know, I know, I understand the contract situation was there, but now you've got your bag of money and you don't look like you deserve it on the field.

Speaker: ah you know, when your catch percentage is like 35 to 40% of on target, you know, there, there's an issue there. And then for you to come out and say that,

Speaker: ah You know, that that was completely out off the wall and out there. And I understand you had to give some kind of answer because they they asked you the question.

Speaker: But I should pull up the full quote. If I would have been thinking about it, I would have clipped the audio for it. But... Because some were like, well, you got to listen to the full thing. It's like, no I don't. I it's worse if you listen to the full thing. Yeah.

Speaker: I think it's worse because he he does the thing where it's like, you shouldn't be booing your home team and we're trying hard. and It's like, dude, you dropped...

Speaker: the So like you said, of the four so the four targets he didn't catch, three of them were drops, bad ones at that. And then the other one was that ball that Jordan lofted to him pretty much in stride down the right sideline, the near sideline.

Speaker: And Kraft looks at it like he doesn't even realize he's an actual option on the play when Jordan throws it to him like, dude, I'm coming to, I intended to throw you this. And it's like if Tucker found the ball, made the effort to find the ball and put two hands up,

Speaker: He might – he definitely gains 40 yards, and he maybe breaks an ankle tackle for a bigger gain kind of thing. And it's – like you said, week one, it was like, oh, good. Like, he looks like he's hitting the ground running because he had those couple of nice plays up the seam kind of thing and stuff.

Speaker: um And we kind of wrote off some of the, like – because Jordan throws to him – he had some overthrows to him and stuff like that. So it' was like, okay, like – but, yeah, like – the fumble against the Jets and then um and then the the one target he couldn't get, he couldn't dig that ball out of the turf and stuff. But then to have that response after a Thursday night where you were just a dead negative the whole game.

Speaker: Okay, so here's here's the quote. That's pretty tough. Everyone pictures Lambeau Field, not booze. I don't picture booze when I picture my home stadium. That's tough. It's pretty disappointing, especially for a home opener.

Speaker: It's pretty disappointing. It's not going to help us win. I don't know what people think that that's going going to rally us or something like that. But we're grown men. We're mentally strong enough, capable enough to get back on the field and play ball. But it'd be it probably be much easier with the 70,000 people behind us rather than opposing us. You know what I got to say that? Obviously, you're not mentally strong if you're letting it get to you like that.

Speaker: Because that just shows that that it it affected your mentality after that point. if you're letting a guy who's This is a guy who's had an us against the world mentality in a lot of his pressers on his first three seasons kind of thing. And yeah, like it like you said, I was taken aback because I was like, that was really Tucker who said that? Because I was like, that just...

Speaker: goes totally against everything he's been about or said in his first three seasons. Yeah, and then on top of it, and then, like I said, and then on top of it, you're part of the problem. You played like shit.

Speaker: Yeah, and and I just, I couldn't i couldn't believe it either when i when I was, I thought somebody was just saying, you know, there there I didn't understand the question.

Speaker: Let me rephrase this. i didn't understand the quote because I didn't know what the question fully was. Right. And then when I started reading the situation and and I would see in the clip, it's like, what the fuck are you even talking about?

Speaker: Right. The whole reason they're booing is because you guys look like total shit. And let's not forget, they haven't seen a home win since november the end of November last year.

Speaker: The last time you guys played at home, you got fucking boat raced by the Ravens in a very similar game where your defense couldn't do shit against the run and stuff. And like, it was, you know they were showing, um, uh, what's his face? Um...

Speaker: ah that um Why am I forgetting his name right now? The the Ravens running back. Derek Henry. And, like, Derek Henry and Bijan's stats next to each other. And it was like, the only difference is Derek ran for four touchdowns and Bijan only had two.

Speaker: And it's like, but everything else is like 200-something yards, averaging like eight yards a carry or whatever it was. And, like, and, yeah, it's just like... I'm sorry that you're disappointed you're getting booed, but you guys all played like shit the last two times you've played at home, and it's been 10 months since we've seen a home game win.

Speaker: And your only win in the last seven games has been a... you... who you A last-second field goal. Yeah, because the other team was dumber than you were. Like, it it just... it's It's just so disappointing.

Speaker: To go with an actual on the football field one, the second level of the defense was just pure ass. And before you get started on that, I have to say that I don't fully blame the defense for this game. Right. yeah You can't, and I've said this about Iowa in years past, you can't expect a defense to continue to hold down a team ah For as long as they were... 64 minutes. Yeah. yeah And if your offense isn't sustaining drives and your offense isn't you know at least giving the defense a chance to catch a break, you know a breather and get some water and get some oxygen and shit like that, you can't expect them to... Because that first part of the game, they were doing well.

Speaker: and and um what's it called and i And, like i said, this is purely about ah it's moldy about what happened on the field. This defense was never supposed and the specialty they were never supposed to be drivers for success on this team.

Speaker: They're all supposed to complement the offense. Yes, maybe for a quarter or two here and there, like if the offense has to get itself going. the defense you it has enough high-end players that you're like we can make some plays ah and they did they fucking started the game with an interception and you did nothing with it on offense so yeah like I said I'm not saying this to shit on the defense but it is big it's moldy because it's gonna bring up some concerns moving forward so second level of the defense particularly the linebackers edge had his once a year played like an idiot game like just I said it I hope he's okay

Speaker: But when they were like, oh, he's getting removed because he's being checked for a concussion, was like, well, shit, he played the whole game like he had a concussion because, like, he's taking on board. it wasn't even the Packers, if I remember right, it wasn't even the Packers that took him off. It was the independent guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker: so So it makes me how wonder how long he was dealing with it before somebody finally said, hey, he's not looking right. Maybe we should have. staring the wrong way in the huddle. But like everything from a, like again, just like the blocking with the fundamental standpoint, Edge was...

Speaker: in the wrong gaps, taking on blockers with the wrong shoulder, going inside instead of keeping his outside arm free. as like Everything was wrong. He did like everything wrong in a run support situation.

Speaker: And then Zaire, you just saw why the Colts were like, okay, we'll trade him for like a guy that should be a backup defensive tackle. and like It was more Packers fans were like, oh my God, they cut Colby Wooden.

Speaker: Colts fans were like, well, We don't have Zaire's cap hit anymore kind of thing and stuff. Once Bijan started going and it was kind of like, oh god.

Speaker: Zaire has nothing. And like, and I'm not blaming him for the one where he correctly read the gap and like Bijan puts the fucking moonwalk on him. Because like, there there are very few people who are making that tackle on that play where he got them out from their like five yard line and ran for 30 yards. I'm talking about the ones where he's like, like, you can tell a linebacker is desperate because he just starts shooting gaps. Like he starts playing the game like a Madden player.

Speaker: But Zaire, dude, you're not even shooting the right gap. Like, the play before the one he got juked out of his jock, he shot the gap, two gaps behind the play, and it's like, you're fucking useless there. Like, you're you're so far behind the play, it doesn't matter what you do.

Speaker: And then, in coverage, just nothing. And then, Evan Williams had a horrible nightmare game. And I tweeted it after, like, again, certain parts of the...

Speaker: Packers v blogosphere and stuff who like to play favorites and stuff. Call him out. yeah they They had to eat some crow because they spent three days hyping up, this might be the end of Xavier McKinney. And like, I know Xavier didn't have a great game, but he got the interception. One of the things that you're all bitching about him do not doing this past season.

Speaker: And then... um evan like i was like oh we might be having that that 50 yard run evan williams looked like you or me trying to take an angle on bijon robinson where it's like dude you know who that is you know who you are why are you attacking him at the at the sea gap like and he took that banana route and i couldn't believe it i was like are you fucking dumb like and and then the two touchdown plays he doesn't know who he's covering on the one right before halftime totally out of position on austin hooper and then um bijan's second touchdown he just like i don't know if he was gonna tackle bijan but he just like totally gives up on the play and it's like okay great like

Speaker: Like you said, the defense was totally left hung out to dry, but like there were moments where you're like, oh, so the defense knows that it's not happening and we're just going to get out of here too. kind of like that That was disappointing to see and stuff. so um I do want to go back and say something real quick. If you remember the game preview, I said the Falcons had... How'd I put it? It was...

Speaker: They didn't have a whole team of good players. They just had one or two top players. And guess who were the highest rate of ah yard gainers for them?

Speaker: Bijan Robinson and Drake London. Those were the two guys that you had to stop the most and they couldn't stop them. Now, to give Sise credit, for the most of the game he had... covered drake pretty well but it wasn't until further into the game defense is getting ragdolled by bijon they're having to do whatever and then that chances and stuff and then he has the busted coverage and all that kind stuff and that's when dr why we had him in stale more than in moldy yeah because it's like yeah so i that's just my other point with the defense is they were doing what they could with

Speaker: what they were having to, or they were having doing what they were having to do with what they could do because of the amount of time that they spent out on the field. yeah So, you know, when time of possession is 37 minutes and five seconds for the ah Falcons and only 22.55 for the Packers,

Speaker: And that's with the Packers going on that, like, desperation, get in rhythm drive and shit like that. Yeah. Like, yeah. Like, it was it was looking way – the number was way more crooked. it was probably closer to 3-1 than it was 2-1, you know, that it ended up at at the end of the game kind of thing.

Speaker: So, yeah, it's um like, and and I point out the second level of the defense, defenses because like you said, we're not blaming the defense for this loss, but it is something that it's like,

Speaker: not that it would have been better but like for everyone that was like oh my god xair gives us everything we need i'm like you're gonna lose sideline to sideline ability and like they're different players xair is gonna take on blockers better but but also on the touchdown runs xair picked the wrong gap and got blocked into a d lineman Like on both, and especially on the first touchdown, he um he gets blocked into, I forget if it was like Xavier or Bullard, but because he attacks the wrong the wrong gap, he gets shoved into the guy who's going to be able to support Lucas on Bijan's first touchdown. And when Lucas can't get to Bijan in the backfield, it's all over because Zaire got two for one into the next defender and it then it was totally over after that. so

Speaker: um Like I said, you hold you're not going to face Bijan anymore, more than likely this season. No, but there's other ones out there that they are going face. So, like, you got to make some adjustments.

Speaker: And as much as I'm bagging on Edrin, even Morley kind of jokingly tweeted, like, every time we talk, we we start, like, going, Edrin's breaking out, Edrin's breaking out. He goes and has this game or the Dallas game last year where it's like, the Dallas game was the one where it's like,

Speaker: Oh my God, he should have like 15 tackles for loss, but he hasn't wrapped up on any of them kind of thing. And he does just always have this game every year where you're like, Oh, what happened to this guy kind of thing. It's like I said, I hope he's okay.

Speaker: I hope the concussion isn't something that's going to linger on him and stuff, but they need him being the primo player. He was looking like the first two weeks or they're going to have problems on the defense and stuff.

Speaker: Um, Okay. I got one and this is going to be a weird one. um And I want to preference this that I'm not blaming this on... ah blaming the game on this at all.

Speaker: This is just an overall reaction from the last three weeks and then what we've been seeing in other games. And that's the refereeing. And like I said, I don't blame this Packers loss on refereeing at all. It was not anything to do with that.

Speaker: The whole issue that I've been seeing is this whole, you know, for years it was what's a catch. Now this year it seems to be what's roughing the passer.

Speaker: And so, you know, Britton Cox got nailed for a rough roughing a pass roughing the passer game. And we all kind of questioned it. And, it well, hit him towards the head and he did this. and But then you sit there and see all the hits Jordan Love was taking.

Speaker: They were late. They were high. They were low. They were this. They were that. And none of them got called. Okay, that was just for this game. Then you go to the Bears-Vikings game.

Speaker: What was it, last week? ah Yeah, because they just played today. Sorry, Thursday games. I hate Thursday games. and you see the game-sealing sack that Dallas Turner had on on the Bears quarterback.

Speaker: And that was the same exact thing that happened in the ah oh Packers-Vikings game with the full body weight on the quarterback, and but it wasn't flagged.

Speaker: And we're seeing that in every game so far, that this piddly-ass one over here is getting called for a penalty, but then this one that looks even worse isn't getting called.

Speaker: And, you know, on the Packers side of things, you can see constantly the last three games, Jordan Ruff, Jordan Love is getting roughed up, something fierce, and none of it's being called. I called it out in the Minnesota game, and i and i know I got ripped apart, or we both got ripped apart about it and in comments and that on the video that I posted.

Speaker: But there were constant below-the-knee hits, and that's that's pro that's... That's the Brady rule. That's the Brady rule. You can't hit him below the knee.

Speaker: Then you had hand hits in the head. then That's been a penalty forever. Um... Or late hits, that's roughing the passer.

Speaker: And none of it is getting, and we saw more and more of that happening in this game. Now, you can say, okay, well, that's because the O-line is just complete shit and, you know, whatever. But it's just the simple fact that, again, instead of what's a catch, now it's what's the what's roughing the passer.

Speaker: And like I said, I want to say this again so people don't misunderstand this. The penalties in this game is not what cost the Packers the game. This was not a horribly called game for the most part. um Let's see if can pull up. Outside of Jordan getting...

Speaker: Blasted. Blasted. Penalties were, Falcons had six for 83, Packers had six for 45. So there was no issues with penalties. And last week against the Jets, there the I mean, they were bad calls, but they were bad calls on both sides. yeah So it it wasn't anything there.

Speaker: It's just overall in the NFL, we're seeing more. And it's same with the Major League Baseball. The umpires in Major League Baseball are the same way. They're getting worse and worse.

Speaker: So is it because they're rebelling, because there's more emphasis on using, like, ah automatic... ah um ah What is it? where they video no not the the Where they can measure the first down. um Oh, yeah. Instead of the chain gang, they got whatever it is. Virtual measurement. Virtual measurement. Or if there's a penalty, they can... and Or if if there's an issue, they can automatically ring into the refs from New York and say, hey, you forgot to do this or you forgot to do that, and it'll you know change that. Are they rebelling against that?

Speaker: Are they calling these plays because they're doing that? Or is the NFL telling them, hey, you need to make these plays because you want a reason to start moving towards you know more automated refereeing?

Speaker: I don't know. Yeah. And then to build on that, I just think that, like, the NFL refs and the league itself, they always, like, do these half measures in terms of, like, improving the referee stuff. Because, like, you have the virtual measurement and shit.

Speaker: Okay, that's great. It still goes off wherever the ref... um ah But also, like, so you do stuff like that. Why isn't the league, and you know, the like, they show the fucking, they show at the referee headquarter watching all whatever games that are on at any moment. We have 100 screens, and we have, and it's like, you can't buzz in and tell them you're in you're in you're imparting a rule incorrectly kind of thing or something. And, like, I bring this to say, and, you know, I'm not, and you know,

Speaker: Uh-oh. Did we get a freeze moment? We were doing so well.

Speaker: We were doing so well.

Speaker: Does he know he froze? Yeah, he knows he froze.

Speaker: Sorry for the, here we go.

Speaker: Alright, so what I was saying was before the NFL cut my feed. Yeah, no shit. a I don't understand why you pound your chest and say, we're so technologically advanced. We have people watching all these games. There's former refs who are chiming in. And it's like, so you have all that.

Speaker: And then you mean to tell me that the league and the referees are like, we're not going to have the ability to be like, hey, Johnny should put that flag back in his pocket because that's not roughing the passer or like and it goes back to the whole like you know when you have all the beat writers that are like we're not gonna get a replay of this supposedly blatant pi kind of thing or whatever and it's like okay you have all these replays and then the moment there's a game-changing penalty it's like oh there's no replay of it or oh

Speaker: Ah, no! NFL, leave us alone! Goodell, cut it out! What the hell?

Speaker: Not again! i' telling you, it's the NFL, audit ah not the Illuminati, but at the NFL Imadi.

Speaker: But anyway, okay, let's just see if third time's a charm. But I just think that they're lead they're they're being real stupid about, like, we can change these plays. We can call in and change these plays, but we're not going to call these other ones that are way more, like, game-impacting. Like, having Blandino be like, or Sterator be like...

Speaker: Chris McClellan, that wasn't a body weight role. He tried to so not do the body weight. And because it's like, those are the kind of ones that I don't understand why New York doesn't call in and tell him like he did put his hands down.

Speaker: Like, like, there's there's no point in showing these high def slow-mo replays and having a rules specialist who's going to weigh in on the call and then be like, oh, yeah, that's clearly not a foul. And then like, oh, well, human element, like, fine.

Speaker: My Lone Rant, and again, it's not going to change the game, but the intentional grounding rules need to be totally revamped. First off, Lucas deserves a fucking sack for that play.

Speaker: Because I hate, and this is from someone who played offense, I absolutely despise when quarterback, the whole point of intentional grounding is that it's supposed to stop and penalize quarterbacks from like, I don't want the sack, kind of I don't want to get hit and sacked and stuff. and you On plays like that where you're getting slung to the ground and you flick the ball like that, I think the defenders should get a sack.

Speaker: And honestly, they'll never do this, but the ball should be live because when you're making that conscious effort to, as you're going to the ground, fling the ball to avoid a sack, that thing should just be a free taco. And it's, it's, it's totally live on the field because your quarterbacks are, well, unless you're Jordan Love quarterbacks are supposed to be protected from, from head to knee.

Speaker: And, um, and, and then you have intentional grounding and stuff. And it's like,

Speaker: Yeah, like, they've got to do so Because it's, like, Lucas, like, it could be the difference between him and a double-digit sack season this season. Like, I know it's only September, but, like, hey, like, I broke out. Oh, but you didn't have 10 sacks kind of thing.

Speaker: I know they paid Rashawn without a double-digit sack season and stuff. But, like, this shit matters. Like, it matters for Lucas, and it matters whether he's negotiating with Green Bay or with another team. Um... What's it called?

Speaker: And like, there's, and like I said, I just hate when players take advantage of rules to swing the game in their direction and stuff.

Speaker: You're a quarterback. You're gonna get hit. Be a fucking man and take it. And like, you're already getting hit in Panix's case. Go to the fucking ground. Like, like, I just, and like, this is one of the things I, like, at least Brady would dirt the ball before he got hit because he was like, well, fuck that. Like, and he would just take the grounding kind of thing.

Speaker: To kind of agree with you on that, um You know, that's when forward motion or forward progress thing needs to take effect. If he's in the midst of being grabbed and slung and there's no way he's getting out of it, forward progress is stopped. The whole in the grass thing that came up like five years ago just totally like disappeared over the past few seasons. Yeah, so that's what it needs to start being, you know.

Speaker: If there is no way anything is going to come out of it, forward grip progress is stopped. I understand grounding, you lose the down, whatever, but that doesn't hurt them.

Speaker: You know, if it was a first down situation, oh my god, now it's second down, what do i do? ah But, if they lose the down and the yardage,

Speaker: I mean, they get the penalty, they whatever, but I'm talking about like if they're taking a sack... Usually a sack, they're losing more yardage than what they are on a penalty. Because the grounding, it's supposed to be where the quarterback threw the ball from, but they never fucking mark it off correctly. Why the hell you go shit?

Speaker: That's where the you see the little blue beanbag go out into yeah possible... of Yeah. the fo And then on top of it, and then because quarterbacks are a allowed extra, like, I don't understand in a rule where you're kind of protecting the quarterback why you need any more, because there was that whole thing where, like, we had Garoppolo in 2021, and then it's like, there's a byline in the intentional grounding rule where it's like, contact on the quarterback,

Speaker: Creating a short ball does not, like, it eliminates intentional ground. I'm like, no, no. Like, if you if you start your throwing motion after you're hit, you are not protected from intentional grounding anymore. But it I do not like having those kind of, like, sub lines in the rule because it gives referees another opportunity to fuck it up, and they always fuck it up every time.

Speaker: Like, and again, it's the NFL trying to, like, um Oh, look, defense, we're favoring you at this group, but we're still protecting the quarterback kind of thing. And and like it's like, no, they have enough protection. like If you got got, you either got to eat this sack or you're going to take this loss of yardage in a down kind of thing and stuff. So, yeah, that's my ref rant, building off your ref rant.

Speaker: Again, you can post both of us at different times saying they did not lose this game because of a... Okay, they didn't lose it because of the ref call. They lost it because they just totally shit the bed after the roughing the passer call.

Speaker: Like, that's... And that goes again back to the team identity and coaching stuff. It cannot be where half the fanbase goes, oh sh shit, if they don't if they don't get off the field in the next three downs, they are they are going they're starting to slip inside downhill kind of thing. like There's that moment with these LeFleur teams where you're like, if they don't get out of if they don't pull out of this nosedive right now, this game is getting away from the end.

Speaker: You just can sense it with this team. And, um, it, yeah, it, again, and it goes into the, why are we getting booed at home? Because the last six of the last seven games, you guys have just shit the bed royally. And honestly, in the one win, you shit the bed and the other team just shit it more.

Speaker: So, so be it. But you got anything else you want to use up? I got one small one that I do want to throw out there and then we can cut it. ah ah This is the moldy is Packer fans complaining about the run game.

Speaker: And I keep saying this over and over and over again. You can't have a run game when your offensive line continues to allow you to be hit behind the line of scrimmage.

Speaker: they're yeah running backs should be good enough that they hit any yeah they should be able to make something out of nothing that's what they get paid for but when you get free runners coming right at you it's hard to do anything caleb johnson has been doing what he's been now i get it marshall lloyd's vision has not been great but The offensive line has been even worse than opening up any kind of gaps for him to run through.

Speaker: Same with Caleb Johnson. Caleb Johnson has been doing damn well with what little he's been given. so Even the one play where everyone was giving him grief on where he bounced it, when you see the end zone angle, someone is getting dog walked into the hole and stuff. And he, you know yeah, maybe you just burrow it in there and see what happens kind of thing. But he sees, i think it's Ryan who gets blown up by the blitzing linebacker. And he's like, well, shit, there's the gap and it's gone kind of thing and stuff.

Speaker: And... Lloyd's vision was never great, but there is an... It's a similar element to um Love, where... and you and And again, it's like we said about Love last week.

Speaker: Yes, it sucks that you're getting lit up like a Roman candle, but you're getting paid not to react to that, pre-react to that in advance. These running backs don't know what any of these plays are supposed to look like because they don't know what a a well-blocked run play looks like.

Speaker: And... um Like, Brooks, his best runs look the best because he's just going where the play is supposed to go. And, like, oh, my God, it's actually blocked decently. So he gets, like, good yards kind of thing.

Speaker: Kind of the same for Caleb's ah good runs against the Jets last week. But, like... half the time they're like, oh my god, why can't Marshawn see the hole? Maybe he doesn't. Maybe he just flat out doesn't. But also, I do think there's an element where he's like, I gotta cut this now because the last time we ran this play, I got hit two yards in the backfield kind of thing. it's Like I said, that doesn't absolve him, and it's not... But...

Speaker: All the shit we we're talking about with the former players just holding their hands over their eyes or sighing or whatever kind of thing, like, they're making those kind of mistakes in the run game too. And so, yeah, like, it's it's not conducive, it's it's not going to create good offense. Like you just can't like you said, it's it's not a tenable situation.

Speaker: and we'll see where they go i'm still hopeful on burton i don't know on monk i think that ship and my whole thing with monk was always i don't know why he's not playing center i never understood why he wasn't at i wonder i wonder if there comes down to a situation where maybe this week they see it a little bit more in practice where either monk or burton moves to center and they move ryan back to guard Well, and then the thing with Ryan is he got x-rays on his hand. And i think Spoon clarified that it's his left hand, not his right hand.

Speaker: But still, I don't know if... I can't say I've seen a center play with a cast on his non-snapping hand. Oh, I'd use it because then I'd jab it right up under the guy's face mask.

Speaker: But... um Can't be hands to the face if you can't use the hand. But,

Speaker: but They got, well, I guess they got seven days because they didn't practice on three of the ten, but... That ain't no shit. Yeah. And you know what? I don't like that. It's looking like Minnesota. The last I looked, Minnesota was a head on Tampa Bay.

Speaker: I haven't watched any of them today. Yeah, Minnesota is up 17-10 at the half. I don't like the idea of us going to Tampa Bay with Tampa Bay 0-3 and staring 0-4 in the face kind of thing because it's like, well, shit. Like, you know, something's got Can we get Tristan Wirfs from him?

Speaker: yeah trade i'll trade almost anyone on this roster for that i don't care well who was it was it um somebody with the the giants said that they're looking for to trade for quarterback and i just kind of said okay we'll give them tyrod if we can have john running back
