They Won. Why Doesn’t It Feel Like It?

Transcript

Speaker: Aloha and welcome back to another episode of the Ohana Packers Edition podcast. Packers are 500 again, coming off a win in Tampa Bay, which I guess in and of itself is an accomplishment, something they don't do very often, honestly, when they play down in Florida.

Speaker: But they get the win. Feels like there's some loss in there. We'll go over that as the show goes on. But Joe, team is back at 500 again. Yeah, and it's not even... i mean, it was an ugly game, that was for sure. There's there's no doubt about that.

Speaker: But it's not even ugly from the aspects that we're used to it being ugly this year with. um I tell you, this week this year has been really weird when it comes to the NFL. Not just for the Packers, but for everybody else, too.

Speaker: And, yeah, I... I mean, a win is a win. I guess LeFleur kind of said it in the press conference or not his press conference in his locker room speech.

Speaker: It doesn't matter if it's 10 to 9, 42 to and nothing. You know, is win. So you to take it. Yeah. fourteen two a nothingin you know a win is a win so you got you gotta to take it yeah

Speaker: But like I said, we won't step on the toes of any of the segments. Packers win 17-14 in a game that came down to the wire, felt like it shouldn't have. Like I said, there were just drives that made you want to pull your hair out, injuries, frustrating moments. It's been the ga it's run the gamut, but it's been also the 2026 Packers to a T. So hit the button. Let's go to our first segment, the fresh stuff.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Mmm, cheese.

Speaker: um you know, I'm going to do this and this is really weird because there's a couple of them out there that we could really put in this segment. But I think ah I kind of hinted at it a little bit with what I said at the beginning this this It was an ugly game, but not an ugly in the aspects that we're used to a it being ugly in the the other few games.

Speaker: I got to put the offensive line into Fresh this week because they really, you know, zero sacks. I was trying to look for the number, but I want to say it was only like four QB hits, which epo still. to Yeah, so only two QB hits.

Speaker: Um, ah so a really clean game for, for the offensive line. I mean, there were some penalties. ah Tomlinson had a couple of go against him.

Speaker: I think Travis Glover had a, had one or two, but you know, overall it was pretty clean. i mean, when you can keep Jordan love upright not running for his life,

Speaker: You did a pretty good who would have thought Travis Glover was the answer to the friggin right guard position. Uh, you know, i kind of put this out there on, on the live. Now I know what the answer is, but Travis Glover played well enough.

Speaker: against Tampa Bay at right guard when Kevin Zeitler finally steps in. Where are you going to put him? Is he going to slot into right guard and replace Glover? Is he going to replace Tomlinson? You know how, I mean, the obvious answer is he's going to slot into that right guard spot.

Speaker: But I think Travis Glover held his own with it. um Belton had a penalty or two, but, you know, he seemed to hold up pretty well.

Speaker: ah Morgan, same thing, but I just, again, when especially with the type of guys that Tampa Bay have on their on their front seven.

Speaker: um So yeah, I got to give the offensive line props and not coaching. the offensive linemen themselves props yeah um it did look like a much better um much better operation up front like they just weren't the cavalcade of free runners running right at jordan every other play um he had time back there probably honestly there were a few plays where he was a little thrown off by how much time he had relative to what it's been the last few weeks um

Speaker: What's it? You know, they had success on some success on the ground. um It's a little skewed by... um What's it? It's a little skewed by Jordan's negative two rushing average.

Speaker: But, you know, they got... What is that? 94 yards on 21 non-QB rushes. So, like...

Speaker: rushes so like and And then I'll get into the run game a little bit later. So, uh, they did. Yeah. it It was a good first step off of a week where you're in some way trying to break three new guys in on this offense, you know, to differing degrees, you know, you obviously Tomlinson was able to get out there and start at left guard. You're trying to get Zeitler up to speed as fast as possible. And Becton is,

Speaker: somewhere at the point of like testing his rehab and possibly getting himself in the conversation, at least, um you know, pushing, you know, knocking on the door behind Belton, you know, in case like Belton slips or anything like that. But like you said, Joe, like they did enough and it was, you know, was it bare minimum? Probably, but it was enough to get the win.

Speaker: I can't even call it bare minimum because I mean, again, they went from giving up how many sacks against the falcons whose pass rush is worse than uh tampa bays to not giving up any sacks and only giving up two qb hits total i can't say that's just nothing that that's like let's turn it around type shit it wasn't the old line that disjointed their offense that we'll be going into in the later segments there are other recurring themes but no you're right like they i say they did enough because like they they they didn't set the world on fire but like it's it was night and day from like as you said it was night and day from 10 days ago where like jordan just couldn't like look down at his feet and look back up without someone being in his face kind of thing and But yeah, it was it was um just a refreshing change that you know like guys could just do a job and stuff. And like you said, the tackles even looked better where you know just having someone competent next to them makes such a big difference for the offensive offensive tackle play. and Ryan to a you know Ryan to the same degree um just looked like he was playing a lot better because it's like okay I have a professional on my left and a guy who's been around the block a couple times on my right and um it just made a world of difference for the Packers so yep definitely in the fresh mine after I ripped on him for the past like couple weeks Evan Williams had a really good game today um I kind of

Speaker: You know, even he joked that he, like, just chucked the ball on his interception because he was like, ah, like, it was a nice try, but I wasn't in it. And he said it wasn't until, like, someone told him to look at the replay that he was like, oh, my bad.

Speaker: like or not my bad, but like, oh, I did get it kind of thing. And then had the sack, you know, and um on the final play, the final defensive play of the game. um He makes a really good adjustment as he's um rushing on Daniel from Daniel's front side where make sure that Daniels can't slip out the front door on him and make sure to secure him and force him to throw it, you know, throw it short of the sticks. So just a really good game from Williams and a much better effort than last week Thursday where he just was completely terrible. Just really good turnaround for Williams today.

Speaker: For sure. And, you know, I thought the same thing. I mean, you know, seven total tackles, sack, a tackle for loss, the interception. you know, i I think there were still a couple of times that maybe he got lost in coverage or whatever, but it wasn't a hindrance compared to what it was last week.

Speaker: And, you know, he did a pretty solid job. So yeah, I got to give it to him on there. You could throw this one in there because it's kind of a bittersweet fresh. If that's how you want to do it, Edge Cooper was doing tremendous.

Speaker: um It's feared to be ah torn Achilles, but they won't know until they actually get scans of it. You know, it's it so Based on how it looked when he was lying on the ground, it reminded me of mine where you can still see his calf, but his reaction to that play, like, that's that's how I've seen it happen. That's how I reacted to mine where you're looking around for who kicked me, who who tripped me, and there's no one there. And you can see it the moment he realizes there's no one around him.

Speaker: and that he fell down on his own it the realization hits immediately and it's we'll we'll get into it later but yeah like it's like you said it's a bittersweet one because that interception he made is the kind of play where you're like oh like he when when it's looking good for edge it's like he's just playing super instinctual the athleticism his length plays up and It's just, and he had a, he also was having a nice bounce back game from a, just a terrible Thursday night game like Williams had last week.

Speaker: um But yeah, I agree with you. He he was having and a pretty awesome game, you know, like put the Packers ahead for good. um Or i don't want to say he put them, but he put them in position to go back ahead for good with the interception right before halftime.

Speaker: Was flying around making some plays. Yeah, it's just, it's just a bummer looking at what it looks like to be and And again, they won't know until the scans happen, so we can hope that it wasn't a tear and it was you know maybe more of a strain than anything, but he's going to be out a while no matter what way you look at it.

Speaker: Yeah. um

Speaker: There's possibly two more that you could go into. I'll take Golden's touchdown. you know That was a huge play at the time like on a gotta have it moment after... Tucker had another regrettable drop and you just run some really messed up plays inside the five yard line and get gifted a, honestly, what was kind of a bad DPI call in the end zone, but you had to have it. But to be fair, and this is one of those rare occasions that I can agree with Jonathan Vilma and whatever the fucking guy's name is that is with him.

Speaker: Yeah, whatever. They're both idiots. No, no, no, no. Yeah. Yeah. i forget. Yeah. They were, they were being tight against both teams. They were.

Speaker: So it just, I can't complain about it. I can't say anything about, you know, because they were doing it to both sides. So, I mean, it doesn't look like it when you actually look at the amount of penalties each team got.

Speaker: But they were doing that ticky tacky stuff for both sides. But yes, go ahead. Oh, no. But yeah, just on a gotta to have it, you know, it's fourth and goal from the four and you just absolutely got to salvage points out of that position.

Speaker: um Runs an excellent route, secures the football, and we're off and running at that point. and And with Golden, I don't think he had as bad a game as the stats look like.

Speaker: um I i had kind of said it during my live stream that he was three receptions on seven targets, and they must be very liberal at what they consider a target because...

Speaker: Some of, you know, i get that there were a couple that he had the one key drop that I'm glad was called a drop and yeah, and in and then yeah, but then you had like the two arm punt throw kind of ones in there and stuff. So yeah, well, the interception I can't even put and we'll talk about that one later. I can't put on him either. So and but they consider that a target. yeah And so it looks a lot worse than it actually was. But Um, yeah, I mean, he still had a, he didn't have quite the game that we were hoping for in our preview, but he still had enough and you know, Hey, if he get, if, if he continues the street of a touchdown, a game, you know, he'll, uh, what we're on week four.

Speaker: So continues that out. He'll have another, 15 them at least. So yeah, we'll be a good on that. ah i'm I'm going to go with the next one just because true north kind of call it out in, in the live stream.

Speaker: And I'm thinking you're going to go with the last one. ah If our minds are working, are gelling, I'm going to go with Trey smack because he has been great so far this year.

Speaker: Last week he had the block kick, but like we said then, it wasn't anything doing with him. It was his protection collapsed. But he you know he only had the one field goal attempt and make, but it was a 58-yarder when they needed the points, and then he was perfect on the extra points.

Speaker: um And the 58-yarder was kind of a... What's that? Oh, no i was going to say, and you can't ask anymore. and Yeah, the 50-yarder was dead on. Well, what I was going to say was it was kind of scary because, you know, they pulled the whole timeout thing on him went and the first one went like wide right. So it's like, oh, shit.

Speaker: I didn't even see that he got i didn't think he got to try one. So I totally understand. Yeah, it went off and or somebody threw a ball or something. But I swear I watched the ball go and went all wide right. And I'm thinking, oh, shit.

Speaker: and okay luckily this is just the practice run this is just the practice one and then he booted it and i'm sitting there watching it and it's kind of slowly going a little bit right but then it kind of straightens out i'm like okay we're good we're good we're good so yeah i got to give it to him you know he's got to get his props because ah you know and i said it during the live that uh you know people keep ragging on well you don't draft kickers you don't draft kickers well so far he's been pretty damn good for us yep it's it's been working pretty well so far um i'm i'm just totally not on the same page what was gonna be your last one uh this this week we definitely got to give it to tucker outside of the one boneheaded drop i mean he really did come back with a pretty solid game

Speaker: Uh, six receptions on seven targets, 42 yards with the touchdown and a long as 17. So, I mean, he, he was starting to look a little bit like, and then he had, we got the Tucker, uh, push. I don't know what we're calling it. The Tucker shove, the, the Tucker trucker, the, the Tucker love shove or whatever it is. ah and So it was good to see that, but he should have had two touchdowns.

Speaker: I kind of said it that you know you for a guy that you just handed a bag of money to, you can't have those kind of rookie mistakes happen. ah And it was because even everybody else was saying you know he was looking to make sure his feet were placed more than secure the catch.

Speaker: And I would have rather him tried to secure the catch than worry about his feet placement. Yep. um But other than than that, overall he had a pretty solid game. Yeah.

Speaker: I'll give Redden a shout out. was making some really nice blocks on the move and then had the nice seam route that like Vilma was like, yeah, you don't expect him to count. was like, oh my God, Vilma's actually on target. What's happening today? but yeah Except for when he called them the Packineers.

Speaker: Yeah, that's a totally different thing. But again, Redden overall had a pretty good day. um but Yeah, Jonu even had his catch for a nice gain. Yep. But there's an honorable mention. You could probably throw Marshawn Lloyd's receiving in there because he did pretty good.

Speaker: ah ah Now, with the leap, it was great to see. it was wonderful. But as the great poet Lou Brown once said, nice leap, but don't ever fucking do it again.

Speaker: I'm paraphrasing, but yes. Yep. Yep. But, you know, they got to use every trick in their book at this point because they're, like said, we'll get into it later, but they're on the front. Yeah, but I put that leap similar to Christian Watson's backflip that he did in the end zone. You don't want to see that from a guy that's been injured a lot.

Speaker: got anything else for fresh or are you good to go to stale? We can move into the stale because there's one that's kind of borderline both.

Speaker: um see it's What's the stale shit?

Speaker: And that's the run. I'm going to go with the run game real quick just because I said it it It can lean both ways because at least the run game was a little bit existent. but don You saw some life, yeah.

Speaker: Right. But this is what... I saw a couple of people mention this on Twitter. I talked about it.

Speaker: I don't think the run game wasn't working because the guys weren't doing what they needed to do. I think it's because the run game was getting predictable. Because it got to the point where we would see a big gain on first down.

Speaker: And what was the next move that they would do? ah run up the middle. Big gain on first down, run up the middle. Big gain on first down, run up the middle. So it got predictable. and ah And, you know, the offensive line, like we talked about, was doing really well.

Speaker: They were opening lanes. i I am starting to get on board a little bit with the Marshawn Lloyd vision issues, but if he can give us the shit from um out of the passing game, then I'll give him a pass on that. Because, I mean, Caleb Johnson had a long of 31. Chris Brooks, who we talked about for the longest time, wasn't a great runner of the ball, had along a long of 27.

Speaker: You know, they were getting yardage out of it. Now, Caleb Johnson, of course, had his fumble. Again, i don't know what more he could have done with it. ah He had a good hold on it. It just... I i don't know. It was a weird one.

Speaker: um but yeah. The only thing I can say is you would like to see two... Because he's in traffic there, so it's like two arms on the ball. But, yeah, like, it's... Yeah, it's unfortunate.

Speaker: You can't have it happen. But that even that fumble, it's one of those, like you said, one of those predictable plays where it's like, call play action in that spot. Like, why are you... Like, yeah, it it just felt like... And, you know, you just had the play where Watson juked his way to the five-yard line kind of thing. And it's like, you have momentum.

Speaker: Go take a shot into the end zone kind of thing. And, like... Yeah. theyre like Or if you're going to run it, go to the outside. Quit with the big game, run up the middle. Because that's all it seemed to be doing was run it up the gut.

Speaker: Yep. You know, do a pitch to the outside. Do a screen. Do a... ah ah ah Hell, you loved to do them last year. Do a fucking jet sweep.

Speaker: My still is going to be um just the the passing game overall. um drops are ah prop The drops are probably more towards Moldy, but just in terms of the pass game overall, you can tell they're two they're like to like two chokes from ah from like getting humming in this past game. like You see it, in especially with Jordan having more than like ah ah more than enough time to hiccup, to stand back there and survey the field and stuff.

Speaker: I know he threw the interception today. I'm going to stand on it that that interception was more a matter of Parrish just gambling and winning on that play than it was Jordan. um I didn't like the formation and who was running the route to Golden's side. yeah And, you know you can always put some blame on the quarterback. He's the one who threw the ball and all that kind of stuff. But I stand by it that the way he's reading that play post pre and post snap, 25 is not supposed to be in the zip code of that throw. And for everyone's like, he threw it behind. was like, he has to throw it behind because the middle, the seat, there's a, it's cover three. There's a safety in the middle of the field and he's trying to

Speaker: shade it slightly back shoulder so that golden doesn't run into the safety and if the ball misses it doesn't carry into the safety and paris just looks up and sees that johnny smith is running at me not very fast my dad and he's just like you know what i'm just gonna take a shot and i'm gonna go for this route you know i'm gonna just run make a beeline for this route in the middle of the field jordan throws it with anticipation and yeah it' like it It's one of those where like, ah if it happened in the first quarter, you're like, oh, that's a nice play by Tampa. But because time and situation of the game and you're like, oh, they can ice this thing, they can you know totally put this game away and stuff. And you throw an interception there and it's like, are you serious kind of thing? So um stale because like it it like they just couldn't keep the momentum rolling. But when they did get moving on offense, the pass game was the basis of how they were able to get the ball moving down the field. with enough like you said and you brought it up with enough from the um the run game on like in the middle of the field and that's the thing is like it was relatively successful when they're running between the 20s it's just when they got into the red zone that they got especially predictable and stuff and yeah so you know same just the offense as a whole stale day but it was good enough to win this game obviously so i'm going to slightly agree with you on the interception

Speaker: but I'm going to slightly not, and I'd have to go back and watch it. I'm going to put a little bit more into Jordan's hands-on responsibility of it, just because you already had two guys in the vicinity of Matthew Golden.

Speaker: that they were close enough that if either of them would have dove, it wouldn't have been an interception, but there would have been a good shot that it was going to be a pass breakup anyway.

Speaker: And for that third person to make a good read on it, you can tell that Jordan was just kind of guessing.

Speaker: You know, he was kind of hoping he could fit it into that window. And so like I said, I'd have to go back and really look at that one play or have somebody like Dusty or you even go in and and break it down.

Speaker: But I would have to say Jordan was just trying to fit it into a tight window and got nailed on it. And that's not to say Parrish didn't guess completely off of it. I'm just saying that I think it was a mixture of Jordan throwing up a prayer and Parrish throwing up his own prayer.

Speaker: And... we We saw whose prayer worked out on that end of things. Um... So, yeah, that's the only thing I gotta say on that. But I do agree the passing game was just off. And again, it's weird to say that when... With the completion rating that Jordan had for today...

Speaker: oh because he was 22 of 30, and that rate you know that percentage is pretty good. um yeah I mean, i would have loved to have that as grades in school half the time, but... but um but And I kind of brought this up earlier that I wonder if he's...

Speaker: Because this is the first game he's had all year where his offensive line held up for him. And I wonder if he was mentally prepared to be running for his life. And then when, hey, they're not actually coming for me, it didn't really sink in for him. So he was still throwing things around and not reading.

Speaker: like he would on a normal snap. He was reading it like, okay, well, gotta watch this because last week this happened to me. And I've gotta watch. So I wonder if the line kind of threw him for a loop.

Speaker: But something was a little off today.

Speaker: was good enough to get the win. um

Speaker: <unk>de I'm trying to think if there's anything...

Speaker: I mean, there's other things that happen, but I don't know where to slot them into R3. Because, I mean, the pass rush was very good. They were able to limit...

Speaker: oh They did what they needed to against Jalen Daniels. They limited him. They got pressure on him. ah You know, they they were able to convert some... I can't remember who said it, but they said that This is a team that lives or dies by sacks, interceptions, and fumbles.

Speaker: There's like no in-between to it. And that kind of made sense because they were giving up. They were the quintessential bend-not-break defense. and But they they would capitalize on mistakes.

Speaker: So they did get two interceptions out of them. They did get them for three sacks. But... He still ran for 55 yards. Bucky Irving still ran for 61 yards. And the crazy thing about that is Bucky Irving only averaged like, or his long of the day was seven yards.

Speaker: So it was, and what really happened was if it was third and 10, he ran for eight. If it was second and seven, he ran for six.

Speaker: So it was kind of one of those weird things where they they held him from getting the big gashes, like the 15, 20-yard runs, but they still gave up the short gainage to move the yards or and move the chains.

Speaker: Yeah. so i don't wasn't a They kept it from being an efficient day on the ground overall for the Bucs. I know they averaged four and a half, but a lot of that is because Tez Johnson had a 10-yard run on a jet sweep, and then Daniels averaged almost seven a carry.

Speaker: um get it i'll get And that was only because he had the one for 21 yards. Yep. So that's why I said it's hard to place that in one of our categories.

Speaker: Because overall they did well, but there was a little tidbits in there that could be stale. And I think that's the rest of them on here is how can you grade them like that? So I think we just need to jump into... Yeah. it's a mody cheeser

Speaker: And I'll let you go first since I bogarted the rest of it. It's all good. um My first one is gonna be the fumbles. Like you said, like, barsha like both of them are just I don't know how to coach these up any... Well, Marshawn's one, I'm like, don't try to go low on a guy who's already submarining you. Like, play to the sideline. Like, get, you know, if you maybe if you slip that tackle, just, you know, you stay up the sideline and maybe you break it even bigger. Don't try to, like, cut over the guy who's already going low on you because he's going to just hit you on the ball and, like, only bad things can potentially happen there.

Speaker: And like I said, with Caleb's one... my big thing is like you're you're going into the line of scrimmage have two hands on the ball like he it he started i think he saw there was a gap a crease for him there and he wanted to try and like get into his stride to hopefully like get enough momentum to where he could kind of like long step it into the end zone kind of thing and he got got in that moment but you just can't be putting the ball on the turf especially when um Your offense has just struggled to keep maintain any sort of efficient, consistent offense on this season. You just got to take care of the football no matter what. So um my first moldy is, yeah, just continuing to put the ball on the ground this season. And that that just has to they have to figure out how to stop that from happening.

Speaker: Well, ball security period, because like we were talking about with the Matthew golden one, you know, it was lucky that they didn't come back and say that it was a fumble.

Speaker: You know, he, he, ah he didn't have full control of it. Otherwise it would have been a fumble and, and that, but so ball security overall really needs to be worked on. I was just trying to see real quick.

Speaker: Um,

Speaker: Fumbles, fumbles, Just the two running back ones. No, I was trying to see. I don't remember him having the issue in college.

Speaker: I think what it is more than anything else is in the NFL, everyone is just punchy, like literally punching and stuff. And um I think, you know, i you're right. I don't recall him having a fumble problem issue at Iowa, but I just think they the O-line at Iowa was good enough when he was there that...

Speaker: guys were trying to like track him down kind of thing and weren't you know he wasn't actively in traffic like he is this season in green bay where it's like oh there's five guys who are literally pulling their fist up to cold cock the football kind of thing and he's got figure that out like there's there's no ifs ands or buts about it same for like i said same for same for um same for lloyd and then like you said same for golden like um Fortunate that they called it incomplete. It was incomplete. But, you know, like, you're split. You're just a hair away from it being a catch and a fumble kind of thing. um So, got to just be that little bit quicker, a little bit stronger with the football. Because, yeah, like I said, like,

Speaker: Hopefully this O-line continues to turn it around. But right now, because the O-line is still a work in progress and because the O-line is a work in progress, your offensive identity isn't anywhere near set. So you're just trying to, you know, your win your margin of error on this team is very narrow.

Speaker: And so you just cannot afford negative plays in this offense, right? Not that any team can, but um especially with how the Packers are operating right now, their margin of error is almost nil, and so just you've got to clean up ball security.

Speaker: Right. And a lot of these places aren't don't. All right, so according to this AI thing, Caleb Johnson had three career fumbles at his time at Iowa. So fumbles were not a thing for him in college.

Speaker: oh So I don't know. i

Speaker: It's weird that it starts popping up now just because of the way that Iowa uses their running backs. You would think if he had an issue, it would have popped up a lot more in college.

Speaker: So one I wonder if it's something somebody's taught him and the professionals that is not working for him. But oh what can we go with Moldy?

Speaker: um Bo Melton. Just drops general. Drops in general. i Yeah, but you did that for your your stale.

Speaker: And i I kind of said it on the live that I think of because even ja Michael Sturdivant had a target and didn't have a catch, but his was because Love completely overthrew him.

Speaker: That was one of the few pressures that he felt. Yeah, Bo Melton just flat out dropped it. And i think if Sturdivant continues his rise, we could see the end of Bo Melton in Green Bay.

Speaker: Because Sturdivant has been a great a gunner, you know, special teams-wise. He's given a little bit in the offense when called upon.

Speaker: so ah That drop from Bo Melton was terrible, but I don't know. um

Speaker: I'm trying to think. Keyshawn Nixon, Keyshawned again. Zaire Franklin. I'm going to go with Zaire Franklin. You know, he he was looking kind of shady and in um past coverage.

Speaker: He was guessing a lot when it came to gap placement. I don't know. For somebody who we were told was going to be tremendous asset and past coverage, he's been an awful big liability.

Speaker: And i don't know. I mean, this is what I kind of heard from um Colts people.

Speaker: Was that Zaire Franklin had a lot of bark, but a not a lot of bite. And he could run his mouth with the best of them, but he struggled with showing it on the field. And I feel like we've already got that with Keyshawn Nixon. We don't need it with another guy.

Speaker: um So I think this week Zaire kind of falls into my moldy. Yep. Just... Again, like like you said, and we we kind of alluded to it earlier, um he's the reason Jalen had his long run of the day because, like, um his blitzing was just a nightmare today. Like, he was in in the wrong gap, like, basically running behind a defensive lineman. And it's like, you know that the one thing you cannot let Daniels do is get comfortable running the ball out of the pocket. Like, you know,

Speaker: that's what he was at Kansas, that was his secret weapon in college. Don't let him find a level of comfort in his first pro start by giving him that and like with the game potentially in the balance, you almost screwed up and did that. Like that's how they got down to make the game 17-14 is like you just give up a huge play. You know you give up a 21 yard QB scramble on third and, you know, medium.

Speaker: And then on the touchdown, on the last touchdown, it's like, go cover a person. Don't just cover grass. um And like, He gets caught stuck in the mud where he's kind of mirroring Daniels when he breaks the pocket and then like, is it in phase to mirror him as he runs toward the sideline? And because he's not in phase two, that he's nowhere near the running back who ends up catching the touchdown pass. So just,

Speaker: Yep, back-to-back really bad games from Franklin where, like you said, and and to me this compounds into my other moldy where it's like, okay, Edge probably tore his Achilles tendon.

Speaker: I understand you're like, you want, you know, veteran and all that kind of stuff, but like, you cannot, you just cannot play... mcduffie and zaire together on the field like that you you i tweeted it you have two tree stumps out there um both in terms of like the style of play where they're thumper mentality linebackers and they're both sawed off short arm relatively short on linebackers where you know like um You know, you're going from a pairing of Quay, who was 6'4", and um Edge, who's

Speaker: And, like, I know Quay didn't always, like, leverage his height and length as to the best, but it's like, he could, if he just dropped back five yards off the line of scrimmage, be tall and in the middle of the field. And it's like, with McDuffie, you know, that was the Thanksgiving game. That's how the Lions got back into that game on Thanksgiving, is just, like, just throwing the ball right over the top of 58 in the middle of the field.

Speaker: And even side on some of their blitzes where it's like they're getting penetration, but it's like they just don't have the athleticism or length to like affect the quarterback once they break into the backfield. It's like Daniels just stepped right around McDuffie on a couple rushes and stuff. And um like.

Speaker: Really, you know, hoping for a miracle on. Cooper, I'm not expecting to get it, but like, you've got to play, you've got to play Hopper.

Speaker: Like, you just have to play Hopper, bring up Welch, but like, you you can't, in this DNA of what the NFL is, you can't afford to have both Cooper and McDuffie out there at the same time. Like, this defense was already having second level speed issues, and those two are just going to get you absolutely murdered if they're both back there for the majority of games.

Speaker: And if Hopper isn't in your plans as a guy to be on defense, why are we keeping him? Yep. and This is kind of the argument that we were making with the Sky Moore thing. You can't just have a guy that is nothing but one certain thing.

Speaker: And Hopper would be special teams if he's not being put on defense. But you already have two other guys that you're like, we want them to be, Neiman and McDuffie is like, those are guys that you're like, ah we hope we never see them play on defense kind of thing. It's like, well, Hopper, you can't be the third guy at your listed position being that that kind of player. like That's just not going to work. um And technically there's a third one because they've got Welch on the practice squad.

Speaker: So, I mean... How many special teams linebackers are you going to want for this team? And so if he's not in the plans, why are we keeping him around? Yep.

Speaker: ah The only other one that I can think of that I can fully put into moldy is this commentary team. ah i It would be different...

Speaker: if it was one of those things where you had jonathan jonathan vilma and then somebody who was good like a like a tessitore or a nance or a harland or somebody who could keep the uh the the commentary flowing but i said it it was really hard to get in i i put it on twitter that it was really hard to get into this game because there was no excitement from either guy And they were misidentifying players. I don't know how many times ah whoever the hell he was was called Caleb Johnson, Marshawn Lloyd.

Speaker: Fucking Vilma with his CTE called him the Pac-Mirs. That was entertaining. That was funny. I just... I don't get it. And then they tried to get Vilma to demonstrate the the process of...

Speaker: stripping the ball from a player and they cut to those guys while the game's going on. Myers, that's who the play-by-play is. And it's kind of bummer because Myers used to be, Chris Myers used to be one of the good like sideline reporters for Fox and ah feel like it's just a misuse of his, like I get it he has seniority and all that kind of stuff but he's just not really a play-by-play guy.

Speaker: and Because there's no emotion to him on that stuff. And I mean, you don't want want a guy that's out there biased, but you want a guy that shows some kind of emotion when shit's going on.

Speaker: And not everyone can be Harlan, but, like, even Buck, who gets, like, a bad rap for, like, oh, he's so modest. But I'm like, no, like, you can hear Buck's inflection change when something big happens in a game and stuff like that. And, um yeah, like, like I said, Myers, he was really good when he was, like, one of the top sideline guys for Fox before. But, yeah, ever since he's been in the booth and, like, and like a lot of people have been saying, like, Packers need to start winning because we need to get the better broadcast booth guys. Yeah.

Speaker: I can imagine who it's going to be this week. oh They're probably getting this in this week. ah Yeah, but it's not the game of the week. Remember, they bumped it up to noon.

Speaker: No, that's why, because Brady gets a game of the week. so Oh, yeah, that's right. Maybe it will Olsen. Yeah, I'm assuming it's going to be Olsen because you know they're going to be playing for second place in the division and yada, yada, yada, and it's Bears-Packers, and especially if Caleb makes it back for the game, you know that whole storyline and stuff. so um But, yeah. yeah it was ah It was one of those where I was like, oh, yeah, why... you know The game started at 7 a.m. m for me out here, so...

Speaker: Keeping the TV quiet because the kids are kind of like half asleep and stuff. The neighborhood's not totally awake. And then at like 8.30, I'm like... Oh yeah, like Marisol's up by that point. You know, I can turn the TV up. I'm like, I'm not disturbing. And like, I'm going to turn that shit back down.

Speaker: Well, yeah, and I got to thinking, well, why don't I just turn on the radio? But usually, or you you know, the radio feed. But that's usually like 30 seconds behind. And I didn't want to have to bother trying to, sink you know, sync it up. So I just, it was really, and by the time...

Speaker: You know, Halftime came and was like, it's halftime already? Yeah. It's so, because you just, you didn't feel anything out of it. Yep.

Speaker: But like I said, it kind of kind of goes with how this game went, where it kind of feels like this game just sort of happened. and That's the best way I can describe it. I'm glad they won. But yeah, like that's my my feedback on what this game is. It's like it just happened. it it It was a moment in time that happened. We were there for it, I guess. You know, Shavinck was there. And...

Speaker: So I guess we have proof that that the game did indeed happen, and now it's over, and the Packers are looking to get back above.500 and their first division win of the season. Yeah, it's Bears week, so you know what that means.

Speaker: ah But anything else you wanted to go into this game? Or like I said, you know, we'll... By the time that we do our opponent preview for Thursday, we should all know pretty certainly what happened to Edge Cooper.

Speaker: um You know, really hope that they can... die If it is indeed a tortichilles, I really hope that they can diagnose it soon because... you know so just to go into a little bit you know the new rage that like nfl or nba teams have found out is like it's the type of repair and it's the timing of the repair so like they say that if you can do the repair surgery within the first 24 hours that makes a big difference to the recovery window and then it's the type of i forget it's like an acronym name kind of thing but there's a it's a newer um method of doing the repair surgery and it's

Speaker: um What's gotten a lot of these NBA players who have torn their Achilles back on the field within a calendar year and looking pretty spry and not seeming to have lost too much athleticism. So like I said, obviously, obviously the best case scenario would be he didn't tear it, but.

Speaker: using personal experience and expertise and a lot of people agreeing with it, like wish Edge the best. And um it's just a real bummer because he really looked like, you know, other than last week, he was having a pretty good start to the season, was really trying to set himself up for, you know, 2027 is going to be a contract year for him.

Speaker: And so it just really puts pressure on him to have, you know, to get the procedure, have a good rehab and get back on the field as soon as he can so that he can try to earn himself a second contract in the NFL.

Speaker: For sure. um The only other one is Cissé. ah He went out with the injury and they said it was a neck, but he was walking around in that, so I'm hoping it's just a stinger.

Speaker: if they were If they had him on the sideline, that's a good sign because they initially also said they were evaluating for a concussion. So if he was still on the sideline, that's a pretty... you know We'll have to see what he gets designated as through the week of practice. so yeah When they were taking him back to the locker room, he was still in full pads and he was walking on his own.

Speaker: Yeah. So... But like Wes Hodg, they were all saying that he was ruled out neck concussion protocol. So we'll see how, yeah.

Speaker: All right. Yeah, the idiots on the commentary team just said it was a neck thing. So i was I was thinking maybe it just was a stinger. But if they're saying concussion too, then he probably hit the back of his head.

Speaker: Yeah, so we shall have to track that this week in practice. but Otherwise they came out pretty healthy today, didn't they? Yeah, I mean, that's the thing is like it's a couple injuries, but there are two potentially big ones because that's your quarterback one and your best LB. And if he if it's if suffered what I expect he suffered, the middle of the field defense just took a massive hit, and I don't know what they're going to do about it moving forward.

Speaker: i' That one I don't know either. ah But yeah, that's about all I got. on that sobering note, we'll close this week's show out. Check us out at Ohana underscore Packers. I mean, like, it's... There's just less for us to talk about because, you know, like, we're not going There's not much for us to bitch about. Yeah. Like, there there were, like I said, there were some there were some issues that, you know, continued issues, the drops of inconsistent, you know inconsistent play calling.

Speaker: in the red zone, things like that. But, you know, the main one that it came out of, like you said, is that they seem to have something functional on O-line moving forward, even if it is just with, um you know, if Zeitler needs another week or two, at least it seems like Glover is playable at right guard. And obviously Tomlinson is just going to continue to get ah more comfortable the more he plays and stuff. So, um, You just have to see this group get more reps. But otherwise, yeah. Check us out at Ohana underscore Packers on on Twitter, at Ohana Packers Edition on Instagram. ah Please follow us on Facebook for when Joe goes live after games or we do lives for whatever reason.

Speaker: Share your thoughts on where the Packers stand. you know is it Are they screwed because they suffered another potentially damaging injury to Edge Cooper? you know Have they seemed to find their pulse on offense, and is that going to make up for the loss of Cooper?

Speaker: We're going to have to find out. And you know the the tests don't get any easier at this point. you know you've got you're You're going into the streak of you've got ah detroit Chicago, Dallas, Detroit coming up.

Speaker: And there's no um no time to catch your breath here. You've got to just keep stacking up wins and keep um keep any momentum you can going so that um you can catch up to the Vikings who just continue to be touched by God apparently and find their way into the win column. You know, they they remain undefeated and you just can't continue to lose. You can't allow yourself to lose any more ground at this point. But luckily the whole division is chasing them. So everyone has the target on their back and the Packers are one that are just trying to stay in the race. And next week will be a big one in terms of, um like I said, getting your first division win. So for Iowa Joe, I'm Mike. Go Pack Go and Aloha.
