Speaker: Aloha and welcome back to another episode of the Ohana Packers Edition podcast. It's Bears Week and... Excuse me. We are previewing the Chicago Bears for this Sunday's upcoming game as the Packers look to get above.500 on the season, notch their ah division record at 1-1, and take what would be the second spot in the division away from the um from the from the Bears if they were to win on Sunday. So lots of things have to happen for the Packers, and um you know they're going to have to move a bunch of pieces around the chessboard because of injuries, but...
Speaker: Um, Joe, that's how the NFL season goes. It's a war of attrition and you got just plug holes as they come to you. Pretty much. I mean, what do you, what can you do? who was it? Was it, um, was it Zaire that they got the quote from?
Speaker: That something about you go into the year with, uh, or what was it It was something about your star player going down, so you just got to move forward.
Speaker: um I'm having a complete brain fart. I had it on the tip of my tongue. Now I'm brain farting, but um it's you know it's like anything else. It's the next man up mentality you got to have.
Speaker: ah you know Whether that's Hopper, they did sign Christian welt' Welch to the active roster. He's definitely not going to give you the athleticism of an Edron Cooper.
Speaker: Neiman's not going to give you quite the athletics athleticism as an Edron Cooper. You would think Tyron Hopper would. Just because... i And it's been a while since I looked at it, but I think he had a relatively high RAS.
Speaker: He didn't test that great. He was a yellow card. Oh, okay, then never mind. Yeah, I couldn't remember. but um But I think wasn't one of his strengths being... or wasn't he viewed it as kind of like that Edge Cooper light type linebacker? Yeah, kind of um instinctive-ish, a little bit explosive.
Speaker: Better downhill than in reverse player, but... more i say all that and he's more athletic he's more athletic mover than either of the two guys who are getting the predominant snaps after edge's injury on sunday so that's that's what we're looking at here and even welch is a better player in reverse than either um zaire or mcduffie have shown to be in the past so it'll be really interesting to see how they mix and match out there when when it comes to defensive snaps on sunday Yeah, and then they just signed that one kid that... Dingle. What a hell of a name, Dingle. What was it? It was something Dingle. Jack Dingle or something.
Speaker: Something to that effect. um So, and I don't know much about him. I guess he was a UDFA this year. i kind of read a little bit about him, and he's another one that is similar to that mold where, you know, he's got a little bit of...
Speaker: I don't know. It's hard to explain because linebackers are so weird to watch. um But they did bring in a handful of guys, too. I'm surprised they didn't sign Curtis Jacobs because if you go back to the I think it was the last year's draft, Perrone and I talked about Jacobs that we were both kind of a little bit high on him.
Speaker: And so, yeah, it's... you can't dwell on it i mean there's no magic in the world that's going to bring edge cooper back unless all of a sudden medical advancements happen overnight and that's not happening but you just got to move forward with it you got to let the defense you know Other areas of the defense are going to have to step up. Pass rush is going to have to step up even more without him.
Speaker: Some guys are going to step in, and we'll probably talk about it here in a little bit, like about possible guys that they could have step up for, or we can do it now. I don't care. Like Evan Williams or Javon Bullard playing that type of edge role.
Speaker: Obviously, they're not the most ideal just because they're lighter than Edge, but you know you still hope that they can make some of the plays that you would expect from Edge Cooper on that.
Speaker: And I know they activated, or not activated, but they started the practice. I don't know. It was kind of differing reports on it that he either started practicing or they activated Savion Williams, but they haven't done anything with Colin Oliver. And I was kind of joking the other day that Maybe Colin Oliver will be the savior of this defense and step into that edge role because he's kind of a tweener, especially in a 3-4 defense.
Speaker: And that would be the role you want to use him in as the type of body type that he has where he's a slighter frame, not a very tall or lanky guy. So, yeah. Yeah, no. um its Savion had just... He only had his 21-day window open, not added to the active roster, so they're not ready to make a roster move yet. um Other option, like farther down the line... Obviously, we've listed the linebackers on the roster. you You noted the two top safeties. Another one would be like... I know we saw him more in the slot, but Oladapo may be getting more like true box reps. I still think he's better as a post safety, but you never know what they're going to try and do. You know... um
Speaker: ganon has made a thing out of like just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks and we're kind of at that point with you you know like we we sort of alluded to it on sunday but out of the second level defender like losing edge hurts because there's a dearth of off there's there's not a lot of options behind him to fill his role you know like
Speaker: Parsons, like, yes, Parsons is going to improve the defense a lot when he comes back, but they have, like, answers. They're not great answers necessarily, but they have guys who can fill in at edge. um You know, corner, it's like you're just putting another...
Speaker: either unproven or ceiling capped player in at the position got of thing. Linebacker is the one where you're kind of like, eww. It would have been easier to lose Zaire than to lose um Edge because, you know at least with Zaire, you could put McDuffie in and Zaire might have a little more range, but you're putting a relatively similar player into the role. Hence why we both said on Sunday um in the recap episode, like you can't play them...
Speaker: like 80% of the snaps together on defense, you're just going to get diced up. um But looking ahead to this week's game, um you know, the Packers, i think they're even in terms of the injury report. So, okay, for the DNPs, first one, i have no idea why Aaron Banks isn't on IR. there There's literally no point to having him on the active roster right now. like Well, here's just here's a question for you on that end of it.
Speaker: I understand what you're saying about the IR thing, but how many people can you put on IR without and the IR DTR? before you can't bring any more back. Eight. You have eight total in the regular season. So they have... They've designated two to the return because um they've they've already designated two to return in Savion and um Oliver because that's how they designated them when they put them... You have to do it in order to make them eligible to come back if if you do it before final cutdowns.
Speaker: And then really, it's just Brinson is the other one because... um He's on IR. don't think Brinson ever went on IR, did he? No, he did. they They put him on last week. Yeah.
Speaker: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's how they got one of the linemen on the roster. um But... like I get what you're saying, but also I'm just not expecting anything from Banks this season. Like, that whole situation just... That's one of those wait till the book comes out in 10 years kind of thing. But, um you know.
Speaker: So Brinson went on just plain IR. He's not DTR. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They're gonna wait. theyre They don't have to... Because... so like, the only reason they had to designate Savion and Oliver is because they were put on before final cutdowns, and you have to designate those two guys immediately designated to return. Everyone else, so, and that takes up two of your eight for the regular season.
Speaker: All the other guys they put on IR, they can just wait. they They can just wait to designate them to return until their four weeks are up kind of thing. or I guess now it's two weeks or whatever, you know, like they updated the rule and stuff. Everyone else that's important is on PUP, so they're like, it's it's a totally different designation, so...
Speaker: um I don't know. i agree with you in a way with Banks, but I just, I think they're playing some kind of... ah i Like I said, I understand what you're saying, but my whole thing with it is like, i until he figures out what's up with the tendonitis, and is the he's just wasting snaps, prep, time...
Speaker: and opening Jordan to hits because you, whatever, like, let's say you get 30 practice reps a week. I know it's more than that, but like, let's say you get 30 real practice reps a week and like you're signaling that Banks is your starter, all that kind of crap.
Speaker: But it's like, okay, you're going to use 15 to 20 of those snaps on him. And then it's like, oh, he doesn't even suit up for the game on Sunday. It's like, well, you just blew your practice snaps kind of thing. So,
Speaker: Unless they're doing with him kind of like what they were doing with Zeitler when they first signed him was they had their starting line and then Zeitler was playing like playing the sixth lineman, but he was actually lined up at. Yeah, but he's are like he's not he's a total DNP where Zeitler was actually practicing. Well, I mean, yeah Now he is, but like last week, I think he was, was it last week or the week before he was limited? It's been a couple weeks. or No, it's been three weeks technically because it was going into week two.
Speaker: So he hasn't practiced in three weeks, but that's way more time than he deserves to have spent on him. The other DNPs are running back Chris Brooks, Jagger Burton, um and Jacob Monk.
Speaker: So... We'll see with Burton, but, um... We'll see with Burton. Monk probably is not going to play this week if he's still a DNP.
Speaker: Rooks, I feel like they'll give him up to game time, but if it's an ankle that has him a DNP, I don't know if he's going to come back, but it is just Wednesday. um Belton was a limited. but Everyone else was a... Oh, no. I lied. um Five limited participants. Belton, Campbell is back practicing, so that's good news. And then um Lucas, Devontae Wyatt are limited. And then Savion is listed as limited in his 21-day practice window. And the lone full participant um is Brandon Cisse, who left Sunday's game early with the neck injury.
Speaker: Luckily, it looks like he avoided concussion. He did not suffer a concussion as was initially you know he was initially being... um tested for a concussion, so good news there that he did not appear to suffer one as of Wednesday. um On the bare side of the legend... they did say during the... Even though Vilma and What's-His-Face were idiots, they did say that the report was it was a neck thing for Cissé during the game.
Speaker: the The concussion thing came on, like, after the game, so... Or it was like a Wes tweet or something like that, yeah. Yeah, it it was probably it's probably more of a stinger for Cisse, and luckily it doesn't seem to be anything major. Yeah, nothing else.
Speaker: Yeah. And then on the bear side of it. So I'll go with their participants because that list is shorter. So um full participants, Kyler Gordon, who looks like he may be able to play this week.
Speaker: ah He is coming off um designation designated to return. DB Cam Lewis was a full participant with a hip. And then, uh, They had three limiteds, linebacker Keishon Elliott, linebacker Noah Sewell, um he is being activated off um injured reserve, and Shamar Turner, D-Lineman, he is being also being activated off injured reserve. or Sorry, Gordon, Sewell, and Turner are all all had their 21-day practice window open. saw
Speaker: Gordon may be close to playing because he is a full participant. I feel like Sewell and Turner are in the ramp-up period. Same with Savion. I don't expect Savion to play this week. You know, you got to get back into shape and all that kind of stuff. So I think they'll use the three weeks on him.
Speaker: And then DNPs. This list is actually longer than the Packers one. So um of note are starting O-linemen Jonah Jackson,
Speaker: Joe Tooney and ah tackle Darnell Wright. So both guards and the Wright tackle missed practice on Wednesday. I'm not sure the severity of any of these injuries, but it's something to keep an eye on moving through the week. um Quarterback Caleb Williams, I believe they already said or um Johnson already stated that Badgett is going to start on Sunday. And then... um Both running backs, Kyle Monungay and DeAndre Swift were DNPs.
Speaker: And um defensive tackle, Grady Jarrett, but his ah old rest. So um hard to say on Wednesday, but that's a lot of guys who missed practice for the Bears ah this so far this week.
Speaker: Yeah, and you know, if they're starting three linemen, O-linemen are down, and they're starting two running backs go down, or down, then you would hope that the Packers can ah take advantage of it. But it's kind of weird for Monungay because it's a thumb and a toe.
Speaker: yeah and i The Monongai one, I do know that after the game, he had like a, yeah, I don't know when I did that comment kind of thing. So, like, it's one of those words. It's just funny because is it like both the right thumb and the right toe or is it the left toe and the right thumb or the left thumb and the right toe?
Speaker: Yeah. we'll have to We'll have to see. Not sure. But um ah but yeah, I mean, obviously they you know they've been playing decent with their backup quarterbacks, Keenum and Baygent.
Speaker: ah so But if they're missing all those pieces in front of those guys, you just got to hope that even with Edge down, you can get a lot of pressure on him because I just... Yeah. their're low Their line isn't great even with the starters in there.
Speaker: I'm not saying it's a bad line. and I mean, if you want a bad line, look at the Packers the last few weeks. I'm just saying that theirs is a great line. But, hey, just remember, um hope is on the horizon because Kevin Zeitler has been penciled in as starting right guard as of this week. So... um You know, let's see how the returns come on that front. um You know, starting Tomlinson at left guard and of all people, Travis Glover starting at right guard seems to steady the O-line a lot against Tampa Bay, who I think have a much better defensive front unit than the Bears do. but And I've seen so many people poo-poo on Glover it's like, guys, you realize Jordan Love only took two hits.
Speaker: all game against the Buccaneers. And four pressures or something like that. Yeah, it was a good day at the office for the whole line. I think he did a pretty good job stepping in. on Yeah.
Speaker: the The two holding calls weren't great, but also one of them was a really, really ticky-tack call. So, yeah. But we had to live with that the whole game where they were... And it was like I said, this is one of the... or that was one of those games where they were calling it both sides. They were being conservative on both sides, so I can't complain about it. But, yeah, I mean, if...
Speaker: And I'm one of those that until you prove me wrong, I'm going to follow suit. So like with the Sky Moore thing, okay, whatever, but I'm still not set that he's going to continue being this ace for the Packers.
Speaker: Travis Glover played well. I have no, you know, until he goes out there and lays a complete frigging egg. you know I have no reason to doubt that he could step in there again if needed.
Speaker: And then you know a lot of people were making a big you know note about how Sky is listed as a quote-unquote starter at one of the receiver positions, but that slot spot, they've rotated Watson and Golden into it, and Sturtevant has seen the field about as much as Moore has like in terms of realistic offensive snaps, and he has the more he has the one true downfield target between the two of them. So it'll be really interesting to see how that continues to play itself out. um and And it's going to be interesting going forward with, I i have no doubts they'll take the full three weeks with Savion, but I wonder what the situation is going to be once Savion's back.
Speaker: cause Yeah. you know that's That's a lot of guys. yeah so we'll we'll see but um so again as we said there are um five um starters who are somewhere between questionable to out already and on on when as of wednesday of the week so like we said ah and on the bears starting offense i should say so um caleb williams is out DeAndre Swift and Kao Manungai were both DNPs on Wednesday, and three of the five starting O-linemen were DNPs on Wednesday. So a lot of names to track throughout the week. It makes it a little bit more difficult to see you know how we're going to match up. But you know the big thing is that um Ben Johnson is going to window dress the shit out of this. He was going to before all the injuries, but especially with all the injuries, they're going to do a lot of pre-snap motion, a lot of... um
Speaker: a lot of eye candy, a lot of, you know, they're gonna just test constraints, test the Packers defense um in terms of its, um what's it called? Their, sorry, words are escaping me right now. They're gonna test their integrity and their response their ability to key and them, their responsibilities.
Speaker: This is one of those things where, like, the Packers' offense has got to be able to... I know we're talking about the defense against the Bears' offense matchup, but this is where your offense has to possess the ball, has to score touchdowns to, you know...
Speaker: Johnson's offense can do all that shit if the game is in the balance or if they're ahead if they're behind It's harder to do all that shit because one it takes time off the clock and two when you're in hurry up You don't have time to do all this pre-play setup and scan and all that ah kind of just gotta to get there get set and go kind of thing and so um Again This is another week, you know, whether it's, you know, I know i don't think much of Beijing, but he is a guy you have to keep in the pocket.
Speaker: And so Zaire Franklin, you can't blitz up the wrong gap and let him go for a 21 yard gain again like you did Jalen Daniels. Beijing isn't the athlete that Daniels is, but similar mindset, like you have to be gap sound.
Speaker: And that's really what it... And I know the Bears like to do a lot of things, but if they're missing O-linemen, it's hard to run multiple run schemes at once. You see, with the Packers, with all their O-line issues, they can't even settle on one, you know, whether it's zone, gap, man, or whatever. Like, it's hard to settle on one run scheme when you've got... ah you're You're replacing starters due to injury.
Speaker: if you're replacing multiples, that potentially takes a shine off of what Johnson is able to do on ah offense. So, This is one the Packers defense just has to has to be disciplined.
Speaker: Also, like, Roma Dunze and Colston Loveland are off to just horrid starts to the season. Don't be the fire starter. Like, this is another one, like, don't be the game that gets them on track kind of thing. like And I know that we you know losing edge is a big, big hurt in that regard.
Speaker: This is kind of why one of the things that I brought up in the preseason is like, I know it didn't work, but I did like that they were letting Oladapo have different coverage responsibilities because it was like, okay, like you have to have contingencies or, you know, in the ideal world where you're blitzing Edge, you need someone to play coverage behind him kind of thing. Well, Edge is off the board and so now you're really going to have to figure things out and move different pieces around. So be really curious to see what the Packers end up doing, especially in some packages.
Speaker: gotta for know especially with a backup quarterback with potentially multiple backup o-linemen you've got to be able to hold up on first and second down and force him into passing downs on third down and then subsequently get off the field so i mean i don't mean just make it sound like rudimentary or textbook but that's really what this week is going to come down to like i know we've said that for a bunch of these games to start off the season but it's really it it's it's totally going to be about executing and attention to detail and um you know, the Packers have, that that has come and gone for the Packers so far this season on defense. And so, you know,
Speaker: I don't expect them after losing one of their like two most important players to this point in the season who are playing um on defense for them to like have it all figured out in less than a week.
Speaker: But you've got to have some answers and some good ones going into this week because the bear like Johnson is going to probe and poke at that issue and it's going to see if Gannon has an answer and how good that answer is right off the bat.
Speaker: For sure, I wonder if they will use more of a four safety set in certain situations where you'll see maybe like, oh Evan Williams lined up in the edge spot and Oladapo and McKinney deep with Bullard in the slot.
Speaker: Or, a you know, maybe we'll see a little bit more of Kamal Haddon this week in the slot where he was looking pretty good in the preseason and have Bullard. Because when Bullard is running downhill, he seemed to be playing very well.
Speaker: so when they sent him on blitzes when they sent him on up the gap and run coverage you know he seemed to be playing pretty well uh so it makes me wonder if they'll move into doing a little bit of that but yeah johnson's gonna pick this apart I was trying to look up something real quick because I know this is also going to be the rivalry uniforms this week. and oh I was trying to see if anybody had a stat on how well the Packers played or what the Packers record is in while wearing their novelty uniforms. And i just, I hate, hate, hate, hate having these type of games because it just seems like the Packers always shit the bed in them.
Speaker: And I just, you can't do that this week. And of course, it's a gold package game. So, um you know, if you're part of the gold package, you've got to be the home field advantage.
Speaker: You can't pull the, oh, sit down, we're trying to watch the game. Sit down, sit down, shut up. No, you need to make noise when you on when the Packers are on defense. You can be quiet during the offensive parts of the Packers game.
Speaker: Don't do the fucking wave during an offense. You've got to really bring it for the home talent or the home field advantage because
Speaker: You know, right now what the Packers are. and two currently against the bears going into this game. Yep. Oh, for the last two. So we can't let the bears fans have this. We've got to get out there and play it.
Speaker: And we've got to get out there and make them run back to Chicago. Yep. Anything else on any other thoughts on their offense versus our defense, or you want to flip the sides?
Speaker: Uh. We can go ahead and flip sides. That's fine. All right. So this Bears defense is basically what you're, you know, it's basically a run back for the most part of the guys from last year front, at least. um Dirtbag Austin Booker is still waiting in the weeds. um They traded away Gravon Dexter. um
Speaker: Linebacker core has been revamped a little bit. um Tremaine Edmonds moved on, but TJ Edwards is still around. They brought in ah DeMarco Jackson and Devin Bush in their base package.
Speaker: um So in that front seven, um this is where you, especially if Zeitler is able to start this week, you really want to see um how that front five is able to you know attack this Bears defensive front.
Speaker: This is a group that honestly doesn't rush the passer as much as like it's quote unquote pedigree makes people think it should. um So you've got to be able to protect Jordan again for another week.
Speaker: And then on the back end. um
Speaker: Jalen Johnson is still there. i think he's you know, he's he's still good, but he's not as good as he used to be. Safety, they're breaking in rookie Dylan Thineman and veteran longtime veteran Xavier Woods.
Speaker: And then their but Their second and third cornerback spots are Tyreek Stevenson and Cam Lewis. So um if the O-line can give Love time, he's going to have targets to pick apart the secondary. um Yeah, like it's all up to the guys up front. This is where, um you know...
Speaker: It's good that Tomlinson was able to get the start last week. Glover was able to get the start last week and look solid. And, you know, it really helped solidify the whole line overall. Like, I think that's the part that people were really underselling is like, you stabilize those two guard spots. Okay, not only do does those spots look better, but then also the guys who are your two tackles who are young players, they look a lot better because they're not being hung out to dry on an island a lot of the time. Same for Ryan where, you know, he's either
Speaker: having to account for people he shouldn't have to account for or he's not getting help that he's supposed to be getting on a given play so um everyone looks better when you get better play on the front so um You know, that's the thing is like, we weren't asking, you know, a lot of people were conflating like, okay, what do we need to get? was like, you don't need to get top 10 or 15 play out of either Zeitler or Tomlinson. Now, if either one of them want to, either one or both of them want to, great. Like that's even better, but you don't need that. You just need not historically terrible. And that's the thing is like, you look at the pass block win rate the Packers had,
Speaker: It still wasn't great last week against Tampa, but it went from historically shit at 16% to closer to 50-50, which is a monumental... i think it was like 48%, but you tripled it. Like, you tripled how often you're winning in pass pro.
Speaker: So, like, you just take another little incremental bump this week, and... Yeah, like you're you're just Jordan is like golden, like literally golden, and he can throw the ball to golden in that in that scenario.
Speaker: Right. And, you know, that's the thing. And hopefully it that allows Jordan to get into a rhythm because, like I said, this past week with the Tampa game, it just seemed like Jordan was anticipating getting hit. So that threw off his rhythm.
Speaker: even though he wasn't needing that because he wasn't getting hit, but, you know, he he was kind of shell-shocked. And so if you can get him in rhythm, the Packers have the weapons to take on this these bears.
Speaker: ah you know One matchup I really am kind of looking forward to is Malik Muhammad on Matthew Golden. Because those two are going to know each other pretty damn well considering they're both you know Texas guys.
Speaker: oh So I just i hope you know this is another game going forward where Golden can stack successes. Don't drop the damn ball with any of them because I think that hurts a little bit of Jordan's Rhythm to, you know, that Melton drop kind of threw off a little bit against Tampa Bay.
Speaker: You know, ah the Packers should have had another touchdown on the board with with the ah Tucker Kraft drop. It just drops for another thing that's killing this team, and and that's got to kind of get cleaned up.
Speaker: And be smart with things. Not kind of. It definitely needs to get cleaned up. like just Like you said, you can't afford to be having those kind of those kind of issues. And then on special teams...
Speaker: On special teams, Chicago has the punt god, Tori Taylor. um Kicker Cairo Santos is still there. And then Khalif Raymond has been dangerous at times as a returner. So um the coverage teams will need to maintain their discipline and um their integrity. Especially, you know, that's the one thing is like...
Speaker: when you lose starters, guys get elevated into different roles. This also where I'd prefer to see Hopper get more time because you leave McDuffie as a key special teams player and stuff.
Speaker: um I know you're bringing up Welch and all that kind of... and you You have Neiman, you're able to bring up Welch and stuff, but like just leave McDuffie as the captain of the special teams and let the guys who are better options at their listed positions play the defensive snaps kind of thing. So, yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, I gotta take a look at something real quick. um Just stat-wise.
Speaker: ah It's kind of funny that if if you're an Australian and you want to make it in the league as a punter, go to Iowa because the Iowa Hawkeyes got another punter from Australia that's doing hella good right now. Yeah, and you know I am curious what they're going to do if Brooks isn't able to play it because he has been their primary third down back. Do we see Caleb? you know and We'll see how far in the doghouse Caleb is after last week.
Speaker: Doesn't help that both the running backs technically fumbled. know Caleb lost his and Marshawn's went out bounds. Did you say Caleb Williams? Johnson, sorry. Okay, i didn't I don't know if you did or not. It's just for some reason my mind thought you did. This is the stat that I was looking up.
Speaker: According to pro football reference, Torrey Taylor's only punted eight times this season.
Speaker: Yep. like So you've got to get you got to get that ah you got to get them off the field. Yep. Compare that to the Packers. Daniel Whelan's punted 18 times in the same amount of games.
Speaker: Yeah. I think we have like we might have double the the we might have double the three and outs than what they have punts, so you've got to flip that this game. yeah you know The Bears lead the league in yardage. um On offensive yardage, they they're like top three in rushing, and then they, I think, lead the league in time of possession. So, like I said, like it's no secret to how you've got to win this game. and um You know, that's with them playing without their starting quarterback for half the season at this point, over half the season at this point. So you got to get your shit figured out. And the reason to feel confident in that happening is because the reinforcements are there on the O-line, you know, having adults in the room, like literal adults in the room um to steady the ship and um both in terms of their play on the field and giving sage advice to the younger players and stuff. So yeah, like,
Speaker: You wonder how many times that Buckus will say something to these young kids and then the vets will look at the kid and go, don't listen to that. Don't do that. Don't do that. Whatever you do, don't fucking do that.
Speaker: Anything else or you want to get into our over-unders? ah Let me close some tabs and we can get in the over-unders. So I did throw a few on here in my, cause they're all shit that I was thinking of as we were leading into. They're all simple ones. They probably would have been on my list anyway.
Speaker: So if you want, I can read them or you can read them or whatever you want. you This is your baby so you can read them. Alright, so one of the ones Mike threw on here that I probably would have put something similar, but he put it in the technical aspect. Does Hopper play 50% of defensive snaps?
Speaker: um I'll go ahead and answer it since this was Mike's and he can go second, but I'm going to say he has to. I kind of said it on the the Tampa Bay review that it's either shit or get off the pot with Hopper.
Speaker: ah You know, what this is his third year, right? Yep. This is his third season. For some reason I was thinking four season, but that wasn't sitting well with me. one So this is his third season.
Speaker: You know, he's played very, very, very sparingly on offense. You know, it was kind of the same ah defense. Yeah. Same shit. Uh, he hasn't played either one them. So it is the same shit.
Speaker: Um, So it was kind of like we were saying with the Sky Moore thing that he can't just be on the roster as only special teams.
Speaker: Especially when there are guys better at him than at at that role in Neiman. Right, and they've already got those spots filled, you know, yeah with with just special teams guys.
Speaker: So he can't just be known as, hey, he's a special teamer and, you know, fuck whatever's going to happen with with the linebacker position. So I say because, you know, whether...
Speaker: It's good, whether it's bad. I know he's going to rotate in and out. through They're going to have a steady stream of guys going in and out of there, whether it be Welch, Neiman, ah ah McDuffie, or even, like I said a little bit earlier, where they get some of the safeties involved in that position. But, yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, I have the same belief in you that he should and needs to, but I don't think he's going to. I think they're going to err on the side of experience and blah, blah, blah, and all that kind of crap, and it's going to... raise my level of irritation and blood pressure but that's how i know ganon's a different dc and stuff but dcs tend to operate from a a place of um of um veteranship and stuff so i'm hoping that ganon will like i said fly in the face of um trends but i'm not holding my breath
Speaker: Second one. Oh, yeah. Go for it. Yeah. I thought you had a There was a weird pause there, so I thought you were saying something Sorry. was trying not to burp. well Over-under Lucas Van Ness. Half a sack.
Speaker: um So, yeah. I'm going under because i think the last week and a half has shown that... teams are starting to key in on lucas um this and i think i think he's gonna figure out how to attack that and ganon is trying to move him around the front and stuff it definitely helps that they're not facing caleb but also i think because it's bajin they'll spend even more resources like whenever lucas is on the field it's like he's getting the chip he's getting the double team he's getting the extra help the extra eyes kind of thing because
Speaker: There's no edge either, so there's no Cooper anymore, so it's like, even more so, it's like, take 90 out, make someone else prove they can beat you. Wyatt hasn't been up to the task. Hargrave has flashed a couple times, but he's a little too old to be counted on, on like a down-in, down-out kind of situation.
Speaker: um You know, um... I think you'll see a little bit more of Brenton Cox. yeah den Denied Dennis Sutton has flashed a little bit. Sorrell has been underwhelming so far this season. Sorrell and Cox, after like a lot of like hype and promise in the preseason, it's been really quiet for them to start the season. Sutton has been the best out of those three the the other three edges so far, but you know we'll see how it goes. I think it's just been snaps. I'd have to go through and look because I haven't seen...
Speaker: uh, Brinton Cox out there as much. Usually see more of Sorrell than, than... Oh yeah. Sorrell is definitely the starter. Yeah. So I I'd have to go look at snap. So maybe with edge down you, you put in a Brinton Cox yeah a little bit more, allow Cox to get some penetration in there.
Speaker: Uh, I'm never not going to make that joke until he's off this team. Uh, So, yeah, I'm going to say it's over, especially if or at least he's going to get the one. And I say that especially if their three starting ah offensive linemen are out.
Speaker: I think that'll, and i um I get what you're saying, that they'll throw more help to those guys on on Lucas, but... You know, there were a couple of times against Tampa Bay that he almost had the sack. There was a couple of times against Atlanta that he should have had the sack.
Speaker: And that was after getting double teamed and roped down and all that other shit. So I got faith in him to do that. Especially if one of those guards is out. I expect him to play a lot of three tech snaps this game.
Speaker: Yeah. Well, like I said, if all three of them were down, I could definitely see Lucas getting his. Mike threw this one on there. um i think this is just rage bait for Packer fans out there. So this this gives you a little bit extra fuel against the Bears.
Speaker: Over under dirty shots on Jordan Love, half a dirty shot. That sounds wrong, Mike. We should have worded that a little bit different. Yeah.
Speaker: Well, little punk-ass bitches like Austin Booker exist, so I'm taking the over.
Speaker: I don't know. I could see it. I'll do the yes because I could see it. But I think because of Tomlinson and Zeitler being veteran presences, I think it's going to be limited because they are going to step up.
Speaker: ah So i i I'm curious at that, but I also wonder a little bit. i think it's going to depend on what ref crew we have this week. Do we know?
Speaker: ah let me try to look it up. While you're doing that, I'll read the other one and I'll do mine. ah So Matthew Golden over under 65.5 yards.
Speaker: I'm going ride or die with this guy. I'm going to give him the over. um Again, as long as the offensive line holds up and Jordan can get into a rhythm, I give him every chance in the world to go. I think he can do at least 70, 75 yards for this week and really solidify himself as that top guy.
Speaker: I'm thinking the same, especially against this Bears defense where, like, I do expect Watson is going to hit one explosive play, kind of like he did in um the Green Bay game, you know, the the Bears game in Lambeau last season.
Speaker: But on a down-in, down-out basis, I think Golden is going to be the one who's going to be able to create separation in this Bears defense.
Speaker: What's it called? It's a little twist in the referee assignment. So Clay Martin is going to be refereeing the game, um the one that kind of looks like Kyle Brandt. um But it was supposed to be Adrian Hill, but he is one of the guys who got suspended because of player interactions in week four. so Which one was he? Was he the one that got knocked over and got in the guy's face? or yeah Yeah, that was it that was him.
Speaker: cause the the The one from um the Cardinals game, that was like a side judge or an umpire or something like that. so That wasn't like the head referee, that one. but ah I don't know, man. These refs were getting nuts out there.
Speaker: Next one is over under Tucker, 35.5 yards. I have it set low just because it's been low stats for him so far this year. so He's fighting a little bit right now. I think, you know, I was discussing it with Westendorf on the side this week.
Speaker: Like... And this isn't to say i didn't I expected him to just be fine, but I thought he looked a little bit like slow and like lumbering against Tampa Bay this past week. It looked like it took an extra giddy-up in his step to try and turn upfield and stuff. and I do think his drops are the result of that, where he's trying to play a step ahead of himself, where it's like, okay, like, I'm not totally my pre-injury self, so I have to, like, make movements ahead of schedule and stuff like that. Because his drops have been all concentration ones so far. Like, it's it's not a matter of, like, he forgot how to catch a football. It's a lot of turning his head before he secures the football kind of thing. so um And even then, he's still got...
Speaker: are over he you got over your over under last week and that was with the drop in the end zone and a bad yards per reception so um okay well let's change the number what do you say about 55 and a half under yeah ah
Speaker: This is, like you said, this is one of those... It's depending on where the yard where the where the line is, it's going to be a... I need to see it before I'm fully back on board kind of thing. it's ah Like I said, Tucker's going to get there, but he he it's in his head and he is fighting it right now.
Speaker: Yeah. ah I'll give him a little bit of the over. I'll say he gets about 60. I think they'll use him a little bit more in the red zone until he gets a little bit more ah up to speed.
Speaker: oh Over under Brandon Cissé gets half a PBS. So basically, does he get a pass breakup or does he not get a pass breakup?
Speaker: I'm going to say yes. You're going to yeah playing a backup quarterback. You should be able to get pressure, especially as... We keep banging on this drum, but if they're missing three old linemen, you better be able to get pressure on Bayjin. You better be able to put him in passing situations. like this is a it It becomes more of an expectation than like a what-if if they're missing one, two, or all three of those guys this week.
Speaker: The key point of this is... Who is Ben Johnson going to scheme on? You know, are they going to go after Cissé being a rookie or they going to go after Nixon knowing that he's the weaker of the two?
Speaker: ah So i that's going to be a major play in this. I am going to give him the pass breakup, but I do wonder if he's going to even see a lot of passes thrown his way. Right. Because it's one of those where, like, you're the backup.
Speaker: He's going to call a lot of the downfield stuff to his throwing side where he's not, like, going blind into the play. If anything, CeCe is going to get the target of a lot of screens and crap, like, gadget crap to his side of the field. Like, they're... Like you said, that's how they're going to test CeCe. It's like, can you read and...
Speaker: you know keep your lane integrity and gap you know hold your whole um outside leverage against like screens and shit like that so um it'll be tougher but i think he's gonna get one one of these days i'm gonna come up with a bunch of these that we're not going to agree on you know that
Speaker: will brandon c say get his first interception this week Fuck it. Let's be positive. We're going to say yes until he does it. i Yeah, I got to say the same thing. that i got to i can't not say yes for him because he's it's going to come. man I mean, he's been...
Speaker: fingertip close a couple different times that you know, I just got to give it to him. What keeps it exciting is he's not, he's never been a great ball hawk on a quarterback, quarterback so ah he's fighting it literally and figuratively, but, um you know, got a root for the rookie. Like, he's he's had his growing pains, but overall, like, more times than not, you know, he's getting like a C plus B minus so far kind of thing. He's doing fine for a rookie.
Speaker: I've had no real issues. I've said from the beginning, you've got to live with the rookie mistakes that you're going to get out of him. You're going get some kind of mistakes. You're going to get either rookie mistakes from him, lack of tackling ability from Valentine, who knows if St. Juice whole season. Lack of ability from Nixon. Yeah, so you were up against it no matter what.
Speaker: I'm really surprised we haven't seen more of St. Juice out there. Yeah, I think it just speaks to that they're willing to ride it out with Nixon this season and then move on next year. and like Whatever.
Speaker: like i I don't know. If they give him an extension, i am going to lead the charge against Goody. Yeah. ah the
Speaker: That's all I got. That's it. Yep, that's all I got too. Let's put a bow on this one. let's both Let's get Joe off to bed as soon as we can. um but yeah Joe, will you'll you'll be going live after the game, right? It's a noon game?
