Introduction to 'Unlocking with Adam Pike'

Speaker
Welcome back to Unlocking with Adam Pike. For anybody that's new here, basically what I try to do is talk about relatable topics that's going to open up your mind a little bit. Open up that potential that's deep down inside that we all have, but it's kind of just locked away.
00:00:16
Speaker
Now I know that if I cover these topics and I do a pretty fine job doing it, it you might listen to it and and might it might just kind of make you want to do better in your life.

Facing the Fear of Uncertainty in Life

00:00:28
Speaker
Now, the one thing I'm talking about today is not having your shit figured out.
00:00:32
Speaker
because a lot of us, when we don't have something figured out in our life, when we don't have our, our life all mapped out, Oh my God, this is chaos. This is just is a scary feeling. I don't like it. Right now. Listen guys, it's okay to not have it all figured out. Most of us are still navigating our way through life, including myself. Now I was just

Taking the Leap: Leaving a Stable Job

00:00:56
Speaker
making a coffee. I had no intentions of doing a podcast today, but it just clicked in my mind that three years ago,
00:01:02
Speaker
I never had anything figured out. I was just leaving my full-time job, six-figure job, making no money. And I was like, whoa, this is a lot, right? But I just took things one step at a time, and I started working on myself, started trying new things, dipping my toes in the water,
00:01:22
Speaker
And you know three years later i feel like i'm doing what i actually enjoy doing now and that's you know making videos editing that that's what i enjoy doing and then i'm sitting here doing it so i'm like god damn. Adam three years ago would have never guessed that i would be doing what i'm currently doing right now right so it's okay to not have it all figured out.
00:01:44
Speaker
But what is not okay is when you're in that mindset of, I don't have it all figured out, oh my God, and you just put yourself down this negative thinking, like these negative patterns, and you just dig yourself into a rut. Now, I wanna start, but let's let's just be honest for a moment. How many times have you really felt the pressure to have a clear path laid out? I i know I have.
00:02:10
Speaker
There's been many times like I thought I just, I needed to have my career, my relationships, my life all neatly mapped out. But the truth is most of the time I was just figuring it out as I went along. Would you do relate with that? Like I remember a period when, you you know, I faced a major transition.
00:02:33
Speaker
You know, I was in a job that I felt comfortable, but it was just not fulfilling. Like it sucked. I didn't want to be there. It took up all my time. I hated it. Now I had no idea what the next step would be. I knew I wanted out, but that uncertainty was just terrifying. I didn't want to leave that, that, that comfortable paycheck every single week, you know, getting that money every single week. I didn't want to leave it.
00:03:04
Speaker
Now, but in those moments of doubt, I definitely discovered something crucial.

Embracing Uncertainty to Discover Passion

00:03:10
Speaker
Uncertainty is actually an opportunity, okay? Like when I actually embraced that unknown, I started exploring new interests. Instead of sticking what I was safe, what felt safe, I took a leap, you know? i i started I did a couple like online courses,
00:03:30
Speaker
I started doing online fitness, I started doing lifestyle coaching, I did a fitness course, I started just trying new things. And then the more I kept trying new things in different my toes in different waters, I eventually got to what I'm currently doing right now. But like, if have I not stepped outside of that safe zone?
00:03:52
Speaker
and tried these new things, I would never be where I am right now. And I would still be in that job, 100% still in that job, hating my life and just not wanting to be there. And that would suck. like I can't i can't ah can't even process it in my mind, doing that my entire life and and just not liking what I'm doing. That sounds like terror. Do you know what I mean?
00:04:21
Speaker
So like for me, that period of uncertainty, like it just, it just forced me to reflect on what really mattered. I started to realize that, you know, I was passionate about this creating content.
00:04:36
Speaker
creating videos, finishing that video, and I'm like, damn, that's ah that's a fine good video. that's That's what I'm actually kind of passionate about, you know doing this podcast. I enjoy getting on this podcast and and talking about these type of things because I know that there's a lot of people that can really relate to what I'm saying.
00:04:56
Speaker
and take things that I'm saying, like damn, this guy is right, because I listen to podcasts myself.

Inspiration from Podcasts

00:05:02
Speaker
I listen to a lot of podcasts, especially Ed Millet. If any of you guys are listening right now, Ed Millet, I would definitely recommend his podcast. There's that many times I listen to his podcast. I was at the gym the other day crying listening to his to to his podcast in the middle of my set. Well, I just love listening to other people talk, other people's experiences, because you learn from them, you take their knowledge, you apply it to your own life, and you can actually Make some serious change in your life. Now, the one thing I found you know really helpful was just setting little little goals. like Instead of focusing on this big overwhelming picture, I started to break things down to smaller manageable steps. you know If I wanted to switch careers, I'd aim to just read one book a month in that field or like connect with somebody working on it. but like When I wanted to start this podcast,
00:05:52
Speaker
Instead of like me being like, oh, I don't know how to do it. This is frustrating. I'm going to give up. I knew people that had podcasts. I started asking them questions. Well, where did you start yours? What platform are you using? What mic are you using? How do you edit it? Like, how do you upload it to Spotify? What do you do? Right. And then you just connect with others that that has already done what you're trying to now do. And you just get the advice. You put it all together.
00:06:23
Speaker
And you just start doing it, you know, like, let's be real. Like the the path isn't always straight forward. Like there's going to be setbacks moments. There's definitely been moments where, you know, I thought that I definitely chose the wrong direction, but I learned on those bumps in the road. this That's just part of the journey. Like each challenge in my life has always taught me something.
00:06:49
Speaker
You know, made me a little bit vol ah you know vulnerable at times, but like it taught me something. Every single every single bad thing that ever happened in my life is is always a lesson. I always say that everything's a lesson in life. If you don't take a lesson from the bad things that happen in your life, you're just gonna repeat those stupid fucking mistakes again, and you're gonna be stuck in this cycle, right?

Taking Responsibility for Your Life

00:07:14
Speaker
One thing that's that was huge for me is actually taking extreme ownership. I actually just recommended this book the other day, it's called it's called Extreme Ownership. And it's talking about actually taking extreme ownership of your life, your decisions, everything that happens in your life, taking extreme ownership of that, owning it,
00:07:33
Speaker
and then proceeding forward. Because everything that really happens in your life is kind of... boils down to you, you know, you attract everything, how you are as a person. That's what you're going to attract. If you're shitty, you're negative. You talk about people all the time. You're just a fucking silly Dolly Sally or whatever. That's the type of person you're going to attract and you're going to get into a relationship with another silly Sally Dolly and you're like, fuck this. I don't like this. You're going to break up with that person, move on to the next silly Sally Dolly. I don't know where silly Sally Dolly came from, but you get what I'm saying, right?

The Influence of Your Social Circle

00:08:06
Speaker
You get what I'm saying. Listen,
00:08:08
Speaker
Another game changer for me was honestly surrounding myself with the right people. This is huge, huge, because if you got like big goals in your life, right? And you're just around people that have no goals and they're just living, living it up. That's fine. I like living it up time to time, not all the time.
00:08:34
Speaker
you know If I'm just living it up every day, just blowing money and like not really focusing on my goals and what I want in life, trying to save money and i'll do all these other things, and I'm just living it up, then I'm just gonna be living it up forever. you know But like it's okay to live it up, but not all the time.
00:08:50
Speaker
so you gotta like have ah I have a lot of different different types of like friends, associates, or whatever, right? But like if you really want something to happen in your life,
00:09:03
Speaker
you gotta You gotta become best friends with you. You gotta become best friends with you. You gotta start liking you. You gotta be disciplined. You gotta start putting yourself in the right fucking path of life that you wanna go. Because if you just follow the crowd, you know, fit in,
00:09:24
Speaker
live it up, do whatever the fuck you're doing. You're not going to, you're not going to really achieve the goals is that you're trying to achieve. You know, like when I just lock down, put myself in a routine, kind of disassociate myself from fucking everybody else and just lock in. That's when I start doing my best work. That's when I start getting like getting in this, this groove, this like, this, this train that's just taking me somewhere.
00:09:50
Speaker
But like I know when I lock in, I lock the fuck in. That's when I start leveling the fuck up. So yeah, i just want to I just want to say, you just need to you know look at who you surround yourself with and surround yourself with people that aligns with your goals. Because if you don't, you're not going to achieve those goals. you get Do you get what I'm saying? Now, here's another powerful realization that I had.

Embracing Your Unique Journey

00:10:20
Speaker
Your journey is uniquely yours. Nobody else's, yours. My journey of getting to where I'm right now is not gonna look like yours. Everybody goes through their own shit, right? So just because you know your path looks different than someone else's, like it doesn't mean that you're lost. It means that you're crafting your own adventure and that's something to embrace, and right? wouldn't like Wouldn't you agree?
00:10:48
Speaker
So guys, I just really wanted to to get on here and just kind of talk about how it's okay to not have everything mapped out. And your life is your life. And it's up to you to create the life that you want. But if you stick in this comfort zone, you stick in this safe zone,
00:11:10
Speaker
then you're never going to excel and grow out of that comfort zone and do the things that you actually wanna do in life. So like as I wrap this up, I just ah just want to encourage you, just just take a moment and visualize your future. Picture yourself a year from now. what like What do you want to explore or experience?
00:11:32
Speaker
It's perfectly fine if you don't have all the answers right now. But like the key is to just keep moving forward and do things one step at a time. OK, don't overwhelm yourself with this big old mapped out picture of how you want your life to be because you're never going to to to be able to predict the future. You just got to you just got to do things one step at a time, like obviously have a goal, but start doing manageable steps to get to that goal.
00:12:02
Speaker
get out of your freaking comfort zone and try new things. You know, if, if, if you if you're at a job you hate, but you want to, you want to create music every day, then you got it. You got to spend some time every single day like writing lyrics and creating music and and doing what you love and trying to eventually make this your reality, right?
00:12:28
Speaker
Here's a little shout out shout out to Rodney because I was at Moxie's the other day and he actually told me yeah he's from St. John's, Newfoundland. He actually told I'm pretty sure he's from St. John's, Newfoundland, but he told me that he left his full time job and he's now chasing his passion and that's to become well, he already is an artist, but basically he told me that he was a linesman. Like I think he worked for like NL Power.
00:12:54
Speaker
and he left that job. He left that job. that's ah That's a pretty good fucking job here in St. John's. He left that and he's now just playing music, doing what he loves. and i like that that that To me, that's a really motivational story because a lot of people would be scared, get that comfortable paycheck, you know still play your music, still do what you're doing, but like he knew that he had to leave that to really you know pursue his his passion. you know So before before we we finish, let's just take a deep breath together.

The Power of Uncertainty in Shaping Your Future

00:13:30
Speaker
Crazy, right? you know You know what I'm saying, it's true. So you need to just release any pressure that you you're feeling about having everything figured out. Remember that you are exactly where you need to be. Every moment of uncertainty is a stepping stone to your

Conclusion and Call to Action
