The Amazing Rewatch: Hey, everybody. wiping pickle juice off my shirt and Sadie is pulling hair off of her mic. We're so prepared. Yes. um Well, this is episode 10 of season 19. We are almost done. Two episodes left. We left off the last episode with a to be continued. Yep.
The Amazing Rewatch: And only one team had come to the mat. Amani and Marcus were told to continue racing and then it went to be continued. so Did they win something?
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. Yeah. um
The Amazing Rewatch: a trip to Panama. Oh, yeah. Good. I'm glad they won something because I was like, that's not fair if they came in first. Yes, they won a trip, um but Phil says you're the first team to arrive to the map, but you're still racing. Here's your next clue. Open it right here, and it says drive yourselves to the Ford Proving Ground in Lamelle, Belgium.
The Amazing Rewatch: And then team number two are Ernie and Cindy. And some teams are stopping to get directions, some at like a hotel, some at little shops and things like that.
The Amazing Rewatch: Team number three are Jeremy and Sandy. And Jeremy's shirt is covered in fake tan. Yeah, I was like, what is that? Yeah, because we last episode they were doing that bodybuilding competition. had to like oil up for that. um And he's wearing like a white shirt and it's all over it. Yeah. Well, that's where we find Andy and Tommy still. They are still trying to um do their poses.
The Amazing Rewatch: And they pass that off. They get a point or a total of 12 points finally. Mm-hmm. So they leave and then Bill and Kathy seem to be right behind them with 12 points. And as they're walking out, the one of the bodybuilders like asks Bill, he's like, do you work out? And he's like, kind of. And he's like, I'm impressed. yeah Like so far. He is impressive. An old man. he has good muscles and they're all they're very fit this whole season. They've been like passing up people younger than them. Yeah, for sure. Impressive. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: So, um like we said, teams are asking for directions to this place. Ernie and Cindy arrived first. And the clue there is a roadblock. And it says, who wants to play with the ponies?
The Amazing Rewatch: So, the team member has to suit up and put the latest Ford Mustang through a series of performance maneuvers. they have to first The first one is they have to reach a speed of 100 miles per hour and brake hard in a designated spot. then navigate a swallum course in 16 seconds. So that's just like cones lined up and they have to just like weave in and out of those. And at the end, there's like a
The Amazing Rewatch: Square that have stop in? It's like an inflated an inflated square. Or no, an inflated Well, that's also a square. Yeah. But they there's a square painted on the ground right in front of that. And they have to break inside the square but not hit the inflated thing, whatever, the barrier thing. Yeah. And then the last one is do a double victory donut. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So apparently this place is like a testing ground for ford which is weird because ford's an american company but this is in belgium but all of the men are very excited to be here ernie is going to do this roadblock so a professional driver like takes them around this track first and like you know this drives really fast kind of gets them used to the car and then the team members take over to do these tasks and
The Amazing Rewatch: um
The Amazing Rewatch: Ernie does well at the first one, but then he starts doing the slalom, like the little weaving in and out of the cones, and he starts to struggle. And then team number four are Andy and Tommy and team number five are Bill and Kathy. They think they're going to be eliminated, but they're told that they're still racing. so that's our, I think, last non-elimination leg of the season.
The Amazing Rewatch: And um and mont Marcus seem to be lost on the way to this place because they were team number one and they haven't even got there yet. Jeremy and Sandy get there and Jeremy does the roadblock.
The Amazing Rewatch: So Ernie has kind of a hard time with this second task of the slalom. He says he tries like 15 times. And so he finally passes and does his donut thing and gets the clue. And Jeremy is right behind him. So Jeremy did a lot quicker than Ernie did.
The Amazing Rewatch: But the clue says drive to the city of Ghent and search the Hufbrug for your next clue.
The Amazing Rewatch: So those two teams are off and Imani Marcus finally arrive and Marcus does the roadblock. And Andy and Tommy are right behind them and Tommy does the roadblock. So yeah, they got really lost on the way there. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: And Andy is very jealous. Jinx. Jinx. He is apparently a car person. says he likes cars almost more than snowboarding. Yeah. and But Tommy did the poem Roadblock last episode and struggled with it. And so they said they're going to save the mind tasks tasks for Andy.
The Amazing Rewatch: Because he has a better time with mind and memorization. But how do you know that? Like... That you're better at like memorization? No. How do you know what the task is going to be? Like all you get is. i know. I mean this one was obvious. You're at a ah car place and it says who wants to run with the ponies or whatever. That one's obvious. they You're going to drive a car. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: But like some of them are like you don't know what it's going to be. I don't know. So Andy doesn't get to do this one and he's really sad about it. yeah But Tommy has a fun time doing it and he doesn't struggle too much because he passes. a gets the clue and Bill and Kathy arrive and Bill does it.
The Amazing Rewatch: And i think they kind of just, they don't really show us a lot of Bill's driving. They just kind of show us yeah him. And Marcus finished as well. Yeah. They show us him passing it off.
The Amazing Rewatch: They don't really show us much of Bill driving. Yeah. And there was one time when Tommy was doing a task in this roadblock and it said, Andy. Andy.
The Amazing Rewatch: It says second attempt and it said Andy. Tommy. It should have said Tommy second attempt and it said Andy second attempt. Oh, really? Like it was one. Yeah. Like an amazing race. Yeah. Subtitle.
The Amazing Rewatch: It wasn't a subtitle. Not like. Yeah. Yeah. Their name and down in Like the graphic that they. Oh, wow. That's weird. I didn't notice that. Anyways. So Ernie and Cindy get to this next clue and it's a detour and the choices are water or waffles. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: In water, they have to use the provided materials to build a floatable raft, then search the waterway for two pieces of clue that put together will reveal the next destination.
The Amazing Rewatch: And in waffle, they assemble a waffle stand and bake and decorate 18 perfectly formed waffles to the chef's satisfaction. This one would be hard to choose initially. um i feel like if you just had to make waffles, I would do that one, but you have to build the stand. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: The other one like water is kind of intimidating, but it kind of seems like it would go faster. Yeah. It would be hard to choose. But Ernie and Cindy do choose waffle, and Jeremy and Sandy are right behind them, and they also choose waffle.
The Amazing Rewatch: So ernie and Sandy get their stand built. it doesn't take too long to actually – Ernie Oh, yeah, Cindy. Yeah, there's a... Cindy, a Sandy. There's a Sandy, Cindy, Kathy, Andy.
The Amazing Rewatch: Andy, Sandy. andy's yeah Cindy, Sandy, Kathy. this There was two bills. Yeah. It's kind of confusing. do you So Ernie and Sandy get their stand to build. The stand doesn't actually take too long to build. That's not what takes the most amount of time. But they go and watch the demonstration to do the waffles and they get back to their stand and start making them. And Cindy literally questions every single thing Ernie does. Yeah. She's like, why are you doing it this way? And he's like, because this is how they did it.
The Amazing Rewatch: why Why are you mixing it like that? That's how they mixed it. Why are you putting it in like that? That's how they put it in. Why are you putting that on top? That's how they did that. Like every single thing he does, she's questioning it. It would be so annoying.
The Amazing Rewatch: um Jeremy and Sandy get their shop built and Marcus and Amani walk by kind of when Jeremy and Sandy are doing theirs and
The Amazing Rewatch: they're like how's it going because when marcus and amani arrived they ah ah initially choose waffle yeah but they walk by jeremy and sandy and they're like it's really hard and so marcus and amani are like we're gonna do the other one yeah i know i wouldn't if i was doing a detour and it was actually really hard yeah and the team was coming up that was behind me i would not tell them it's really hard yeah be like it's great yeah because they switch detours and it's very much the right decision because they do the next one really quickly so andy and tommy arrive and they choose water first they get it built quickly and they find the clues really quickly and they finish the detour really quickly yeah ernie and cindy do finish first though just by a couple minutes it looks like yeah
The Amazing Rewatch: And the clue says drive to the Mirvan Gerardsbergen and find your next clue. And yeah, Andy and Tommy are right behind them. So they made up a lot of time with that detour going so quickly.
The Amazing Rewatch: And that's the type of things that they are good at. Yeah. They do make up a lot of time on detours usually when it's like a physical detour. um Jeremy and Sandy try to pass off, but they aren't able to do it. Bill and Kathy arrive and they choose waffles. Again, they walk past Jeremy and Sandy and said, how is it going? and they're like, it's really hard.
The Amazing Rewatch: So they also switch. Imani and Marcus finish the water detour and Jeremy and Sandy see that they're being passed up by a couple teams doing the other detour and Sandy wants to switch and Jeremy says no. Because they're completely done. The only thing that's wrong is that they have two waffles in the wrong position. Yeah, but they are like so confused. They're like, we like we're just never going to get this. how How in the world are we even going to figure this out? Like what we have wrong.
The Amazing Rewatch: So yeah, Sandy wants to switch and Jeremy says, no, we can't switch. Yeah, like at that point, you've already basically done everything. You just got to thick figure it out. So Bill and Kathy get in the water. Jeremy and Sandy finally figure out the switching thing and they pass off the detour. So Bill and Kathy are the last ones to finish the detour. But again, the water one didn't take too long.
The Amazing Rewatch: yeah So all the teams are figuring out how to get to this destination, the Mirvan Gerardsbrigen, and taking different routes to get there.
The Amazing Rewatch: Bernie and Cindy get there first. They get the clue. And it says, working with a pigeon trainer, release hundreds of homing pigeons, then race to meet up with the pigeons at a specific address to get your next clue.
The Amazing Rewatch: So Ernie and Sandy release the pigeons and get their address and head out. And Tommy and Andy are right behind them. And Imani and Marcus and Jeremy and Sandy are not too far behind them.
The Amazing Rewatch: And so the teams are just now figuring out how to get to this address. Every address is different. Yeah. They're kind of in the same area. So they're all kind of. But different house numbers. Yeah. They're all kind of in the outskirts of Brussels.
The Amazing Rewatch: Mm-hmm. And, but yeah, they're all different. And some teams really struggle to find this address and some teams have a better time. andy and Tommy actually get to their address first and get the clue.
The Amazing Rewatch: And it's for the pit stop, which is at the Atonium, which is a very like a well-known landmark in Brussels. It's tourist attraction.
The Amazing Rewatch: This is weird. Oh, never mind. The first thing that came up to when I Google Atonium is that it costs $1,023.
The Amazing Rewatch: But I don't know what actually costs $1,023. Like an entrance ticket? Or... It just says... oh like... um Private... A private transfer to the city of Brussels or something.
The Amazing Rewatch: Anyways, the Atonium... is a landmark modernist building in Brussels, originally constructed as the centerpiece of the 1958 Brussels World Fair and is a tribute to scientific progress as well as to symbolize Belgian engineering skills at the time. um It's the city's most popular tourist attraction and serves as a museum, an art center, and cultural destination.
The Amazing Rewatch: And it's 335 feet tall It's 165 billion times magnified. um From an actual atom? Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Anyways, that's what it is. I did try to find that. So, you know, like when I, when when we travel anywhere, we try to find like an amazing race. location or something that we can take a picture of and I watched like the end of this episode and I was like oh that would be like a perfect place to to go find this atonium in Brussels but we went in January and it got dark at like 4 30 and we just like really didn't have enough time to because you have to kind of take it like a bus or a train outside of the city a little bit and we just didn't have time to get there before it got dark
The Amazing Rewatch: So I didn't see that, but I wanted to. Yeah. Next time. Yeah. I would also love to go to Ghent next time I go to Belgium if I ever go again. Because it I know that it's like a a really charming, like old medieval city. It's really similar to Bruges, but...
The Amazing Rewatch: And anytime I think I hear the word Ghent, Amela de Ghent. Rodmila. Yeah. The Baroness Rodmila de Ghent.
The Amazing Rewatch: Which is like, that's one of my favorite movies. Yeah. Ever After, if you don't know what we're talking about. The reference Ever After. Well, that's where the pit stop is. Andy and Tommy are the ones that get the clue first. um Jeremy and Sandy get to their address next and get the clue to the pit stop.
The Amazing Rewatch: So Ernie and Cindy are pretty lost. Yeah. And this is the first time that we really see Ernie get short with Cindy. Yeah. Because she wants him to stop at a hotel or a restaurant to get directions and he doesn't. And she he was like, I couldn't park there. Somebody was right on my right on my tail. And, you know, it was like the first time that he's ever sworn or gotten angry with her. Yeah. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: It's been a long day. They've really been racing for a long time. They've been racing for a long time. She's kind of been annoying this episode. And so team number one ended up being Andy and Tommy.
The Amazing Rewatch: So they checked in as team number four, last leg, and made up a lot of time with their navigation and and the detour. So that was impressive. And they each each win a Ford Mustang. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: That's a big prize. Yeah. That they can customize themselves. Yeah. Andy is really happy about that. He was really bummed about not being doing the roadblock. and Yeah. He talked about it like six times in their little interviews.
The Amazing Rewatch: um So. Well, he probably talked about it one time and then they chopped it up into yeah six mentions of it yeah throughout the course of the episode. Yeah. Imani Marcus get to the wrong address. They're like at the right address in a different town or something. And Bill and Kathy haven't even made it to the pigeon place yet. They're still looking for the pigeon place. Yeah. They're getting directions. And somebody that they're asking is like, you go left, then right, then you go up, then you go down, then you go left, then left, then right, then up, then. And they're like, uh, okay. Bill's like, did you get that? And she's like, no. No.
The Amazing Rewatch: me um So team number two ended up being Jeremy and Sandy. So that's interesting because they really struggled with the detour. and we And usually struggle with navigation. yeah But they did well this time and they're they're surprised.
The Amazing Rewatch: And then number three are Ernie and Cindy. And course Cindy is mad that they didn't get first place again. Yeah. She's like, that's just another time where we're out front and then we just mess it up.
The Amazing Rewatch: It's like, yeah, first place is great, but also like... You're still in. You're still in it. And yeah. Anyways. so that means team number four are Amani and Marcus.
The Amazing Rewatch: And. Seems like they thought they were last because they were like being prepared to be eliminated. Because the clue did say last to check in will be eliminated. I did notice that.
The Amazing Rewatch: um But yeah, Amani and Marcus got pretty lost and I think they thought they were going to be last. Yeah. And it was kind of interesting though because they didn't edit it to look close at all.
The Amazing Rewatch: No, because I don't think it was close at all. I think Bill and Kathy were really lost. They didn't even show us. to The pigeons. and the Bill and Kathy getting to the pigeons.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. To release them and then find the address and then get the clue for the pit stop. So I think they were really, really lost. Yeah. And it was like getting dark. ah ah Who was first check in? Andy and Tommy. It was like probably early evening at that point. And then like by the time the other teams start checking in, it's like getting dark. And then when Bill and Kathy.
The Amazing Rewatch: So we know they're going to be last and they're driving up and they know they're going to be last. And they're saying like this was, you know, we're proud of our performance. We made it way further than we even thought we would.
The Amazing Rewatch: We they said it's been a hoot. Yeah. They say that their relationship has improved. that They enjoyed spending this time together. They never once got like angry with each other or yeah i know they should. They all they can be is just proud of themselves. They really just were so respectful to each other. They gave it their They were so impressive. They just did great.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah. And so when they get to the mat and they are eliminated, Kathy says, like, we just we just want to prove that, like, older people in America should not be overlooked. Like, we're capable and we can do hard things. And so, yeah, they they did great. We are going to miss them.
The Amazing Rewatch: Yeah, they made it really far. But the remaining teams are all good too. You know, like like like we said, there wasn't really anybody that we don't like at this point. i I want my top three to be... i want Jeremy and Sandy to be eliminated. I want the top three to be Imani, Marcus, Andy and Tommy, and Arnie and Cindy.
The Amazing Rewatch: And I want Imani and Marcus to win the whole thing.
The Amazing Rewatch: Or Andy and Tommy. Yeah. Well... Bill and Kathy's race average was 5.5 and they got eliminated in fifth place. So that was like very consistent. they They were very, very lucky on that first leg in Taiwan where they just could not find that clue up on the sign. And they came in last. And like the first leg is never a non-elimination. And it was on this one. And then they just like stayed in and they did know really well the rest of the time. They took second place a couple of times.
The Amazing Rewatch: um So
The Amazing Rewatch: But if she had to do a physical one, I'm sure she could have. Yeah. So they're the first team to be eliminated in Belgium in this race because this was the first time we were there. They're the oldest average of a team to finish the race in fifth place.
The Amazing Rewatch: The average is 62.5 years. And I am really, really sad to have to say this. oh no. But Bill, yeah, Bill died 2016 of pancreatic cancer.
The Amazing Rewatch: of pancreatic cancer Oh, no. I know. So that was like five years after they did the race. oh I'm glad they did it together. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: So... so i don't This is on Reddit, and I don't know where the original quote came from, but it says, this is from Kathy. She says, with great sadness, I'm sharing that amazing racer Bill from season 19 has died from pancreatic cancer. He was an incredible man full of adventure, humor, love, and advice. The week before he died, we watched our season again and shared the surreal feeling of being on this extraordinary journey. It was magical for us. As we watched each season, we actually felt a part of the competition and bet on the outcome of each episode.
The Amazing Rewatch: You have all played a part in our lives, so we feel connected. Our wish is that you continue to fill your lives with purpose and passion. Life is short-lived with vibrance. know. That's so sweet. um And somebody posted, like, as a reply, he's like, he's doing bodybuilder poses with the angels now. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: Huh. So... He would have only been like. He was 69. Yeah. I going to say less than 70. Yeah. Kathy is still alive. She's 77.
The Amazing Rewatch: Bill was actually the first male amazing racer to pass away like after there ah after their time on the race. Or like at all.
The Amazing Rewatch: Because there's only been a few really. Mm-hmm.
The Amazing Rewatch: I don't remember who the first female was. There's been a few of those, too, that have passed away. But, yeah, um Kathy does have ah Facebook, but hasn't posted really anything about it or at all.
The Amazing Rewatch: Says no posts available. So maybe it's just private. She only has 66 friends. One of those friends is Arthur and Anita Jones, the white-haired farmers, also from Oregon. Maybe they're, like, actually friends in real life, I wonder. Maybe.
The Amazing Rewatch: They only lasted like one episode. They were... Yeah, they were first eliminated. i can't remember what season, but... Well, goodbye, Bill and Kathy. And goodbye, Bill. Yeah.
The Amazing Rewatch: They, yeah, were great. Yes. We enjoyed watching them so, so, so much. That was, they were probably the best part of the season. So, um but yeah, now we're about down to the last two episodes. We definitely have to be leaving Belgium because we've been there for two weeks now. So I know where we're going.
The Amazing Rewatch: If you want to take a guess. um
The Amazing Rewatch: Maybe somewhere in like the Caribbean or like. That's pretty that's pretty close. Like the Bahamas, Jamaica, Caribbean, somewhere in their area.
The Amazing Rewatch: It is the place that Amani and Marcus won their trip to. Panama. Yeah. Interesting. yeahp We are headed to Panama next for the penultimate lake. Okay, well, come back for episode 11, and thanks for listening.
