Speaker: Aloha and welcome back to another episode of the Ohana Packers Edition podcast. Today, we look at what the Packers need to do in order to get back to the winning ways for the first time in what feels like an eternity as they're on a six-game losing streak at this point.
Speaker: And you know what? They have no time to feel sorry for themselves. No one in the league is going to feel sorry for them. It's buck-up or shut-up time for the Packers. So they head to New York to the house of horrors that is MetLife Stadium and...
Speaker: Joe, last week sucked. definitely don't feel sorry for him. Yep. Last week sucked, and all you got right now is you just got to make things happen. You just got to make the donuts, so to speak.
Speaker: Yeah, I just, I don't know. That was really a horrible, horrible way to do things. And it didn't make it any better with the comments we were getting from the coaches.
Speaker: um You know, especially Stinovich. I don't know what the hell was going on with Stinovich. And... um
Speaker: Well, you know, getting asked, well, what do you do about him getting hit 15 times? Well, it was actually 18. Yeah, like that makes it any better that you guys think he got hit 18 times.
Speaker: So, yeah. Weirdly, I think it's better than him saying, no, it didn't seem that bad. Like, I think it's his way of acknowledging that, like, oh, yeah, we saw all of them and you were, in fact, short kind of thing.
Speaker: I don't know what to make of the......untradictory terms like last week, where you know last week it was... um ah What was was the thing that... um Oh, the whole Bakubo LA comments and like, is he gonna play? Who's gonna play? That kind of stuff. And this week it was the, why didn't you do the Tucker thing? and um LaFleur doing the like, oh no, like there's no limitations. And then this week it was Steno like, yeah, we're not doing it because he's coming off the ACL kind of thing and stuff. So who knows? You know, maybe Steno reads Twitter and he's sick and tired of being the shit the shit stock of everything. So maybe he's like, you know what, Matt, shove it. Like you do your clandestine crap on your own. But they they just have to figure things out. Like, um,
Speaker: You know, one of the comments that came out is, yeah you know, Steno said that Belton is getting reps at right guard. um you know, they are the they basically admitted that what, you know, we had been supposing that Belton was partly kept at tackle because they were just so concerned about swing tackle, i.e. meaning they were concerned where Bakuboele was going into the season.
Speaker: you know And luckily, Zach made it through the game healthy. um is you know He's on the report, but we'll straddle the two. So the injury report, you know a lot of people are losing their minds. It's long again, but once again,
Speaker: Of those guys that are of the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 Packers on the list, Bakuboele, Banks, Brinson, Hargrave, Hopper, Van Net, or Hopper, nope, nope, nope, scratch that. Bakuboele, Banks, Brinson, Hargrave, Wyatt all entered the season with injuries.
Speaker: Or I should say came into the regular season with some kind of injury concern. So Brinson obviously hurt the calf in Denver in preseason week two. And the other guys that I listed, those are all guys who came off of PUP. So they're going to be listed for at least half the season because...
Speaker: the the noted, not noted injury management, you know that whole side of the operation. And then um Hopper, you know he missed practice time last week with the the Achilles, um but he returned to practice. Sorel also was listed you know last week. And then Cissé, I think they're just doing their due diligence of he left the game early, so you know something happened to him, so we're going to list it it. It is just hilarious that he's listed as a full participant due to cramps, which you know goes back to the whole they're doing their due diligence of being totally forthcoming with their injury reporting to avoid any sort of issues.
Speaker: But the two concerns being um Hargrave, who I think I forgot to list with the guys coming off injury, and Van Ness popping up with concussions slash concussion-like symptoms. you know They don't discern between the two. They just take it. If you have symptoms or you have a full-blown concussion, they treat it the same, which is honestly the right way to do it.
Speaker: Domovsky's tweet was interesting because you know he quote-tweeted the injury report and said, Van Ness, for all intents and purposes, played pretty much the whole game. He came out after um Jefferson's second touchdown with just under four minutes left in the game. And Hargrave was on the field for the last play of the game. So more than likely, they exhibited some like headaches or dizziness following the game and are in the protocol now.
Speaker: So on one hand, um you know it's good that they're at least in some way progressing through protocol because they were limited participants. um Big thing to keep an eye on the rest of the week is if they do media availability because that's one of the last checkpoints for um clearing protocol is you have to be able to get in front of a camera with all the lights and be asked and answer questions and stuff.
Speaker: The one concern you should have with concussions, though, at this juncture of the season is um the week three game is ah is the Thursday night game, or I should say one of their non-Sunday games this season. So quick turnaround, you know, is the team going to play it extra cautious or are they just going to be...
Speaker: You clear protocol, you're playing kind of thing. Between the two, Van Ness is definitely the one that you're like, he needs to clear protocol because I don't know what they're going to do if he can't play on um on Sunday because they're you know they're short edges going into the season.
Speaker: you know, the call-up would be Mosby or i don't know if Kelly's ready to be called up, but you might have to elevate him just because of the numbers factor. Mosby's going to give you pretty much zilch as a pass rusher anyway. So you may have to activate both of them if Van Ness can't go on Sunday. And then whereas with Hargrave, if he can't go, you've got Campbell. There's the chance that Brinson gets back back to practice this week and he's able to go. So, you know, you'll still in some way have...
Speaker: five defensive tackles, if not six, ready to go on game day. So we'll see how they approach it um when the time comes. But, you know, and then, you know, the elephant in the room being who knows with Aaron Banks at this point. um You know, I don't put too much stock into him practicing at any point in the week because if he, you know, and I i don't like to bag on players. Go for it.
Speaker: Go for it. If If he practices the same amount as he did today, tomorrow, or as you guys are hearing this from Wednesday to Thursday, that may be looking up a little bit more.
Speaker: But if he practices Wednesday, doesn't practice Thursday, then it might be a little bit more up in the air. I think they said this was the most that he's really done in practice for a bit.
Speaker: So that is kind of a positive side, if you really want to call it that. Now, with that being said, is he going to add more than what we've got in week one with the offensive line?
Speaker: Who knows at this point? He was really hot and cold last year ah and the year before. So i don't I'm not saying that he's going to be a savior on anything. But...
Speaker: um I want to go back to the Belton portion of what you mentioned. oh it's kind of This goes back to stuff that they said in pressers that just... You sit there and like, wait, what?
Speaker: Because they didn't want to rotate Belton in at guard because they were worried about the swing tackle situation. And that goes back to the conversation that we had all the last week where, or after, after the loss, that's your own doing.
Speaker: You didn't bring somebody in to be a swing tackle. You didn't bring somebody in to be your starting left guard, or I mean, right guard. You just decided this is what we got. Yep.
Speaker: And I know that, like, they had Kennard, but Kennard was just terrible in the preseason to the point that they were like, you're not playing tackle anymore. Like, the fact that they've skipped the two of them. Yeah, who cap. I know. Donovan Jennings was even worse.
Speaker: So, I mean. and And we went into that on Sunday's recap show. Like, it
Speaker: it you know and i you know I went back and forth with like Mark Trova on Twitter and stuff about like yeah the value in a Kennard over a Jennings and stuff. and like On one hand, I was like, Kennard was so bad that they were like, you're not playing tackle anymore.
Speaker: But like Mark said, we've at least seen Kennard play in the NFL, play something well in the NFL. Or not well, I should say. He has a track Yeah. Whereas Jennings' track record is a de facto fourth preseason game with nothing on the line kind of thing and stuff. So, yeah. And that was our bellyache over the whole situation was like,
Speaker: Okay, I understand you want to go with the guy who has more time in the league and stuff, but Jennings is by no means any more experienced than then um then Burton is at this point. Yeah, in terms of playing meaningful snaps. And the part that irritated me a lot with LeFleur is he forever talks about continuity and...
Speaker: time on task and stuff like that. This was truly your big brain solution. Jennings should have been with the first team in preseason. Like, you like you guys just try to find the sensational solution, and it is definitely one of those ego-driven, the smartest guy in the room kind of thing and stuff.
Speaker: And who knows? Maybe Stenevich is like, I'm not banking with LaFleur is like, Well, i told him this is stupid. You know, like, and we don't know. We're not in the meeting. Or maybe it's Stenevich, the one that's like, well, shit, I was the one who stumped for Jennings and I looked like an idiot now. We're never going to know, you know, like that kind of thing. But it is, it is interesting to see any form of dissension in the ranks after. This is my opinion of it.
Speaker: Go for it. What you were just saying. I think because, and I saw this, and even, I think even Dusty Evely said this, that The floor had a hell of a scheme planned up for this.
Speaker: So I'm wondering if he spends too much time with the scheme, which I'm not complaining about. We all complained about him and his scheme before, but then he has to rely on Steno or Butkus to say, okay, who are my guys out there?
Speaker: Who am I? Who do I got to scheme this up for? And if they come back and say, well, you know, this guy's been looking pretty good at practice. Okay, then that's who we're going with. Not saying that he 100% relies on it, but this goes back to a discussion that I kind of had last, or we kind of had last year about Bisaccia and how he had too much of the floor's ear in a lot of the decision-making that went on for certain things because he was the assistant head coach.
Speaker: I think he relies a little bit too much on the words of his coaches. And that's why it's more of a buddy system than it is a coaching staff. And could definitely be the case.
Speaker: Yeah. And the only way he's going to get out of it is if he hires a guy kind of like a cam acre or somebody like that, that knows what they're doing is going to put the time into it. And is most likely not going to be a yes man on things.
Speaker: Well, there is that guy on the street. His name is Stoutland. He is a free agent coach. The only way it's going to happen this season is if they bring him in as like a, ah like they did with Salah as like an am yeah yeah yeah yeah analyst. yeah They're not going to make a coaching change. and Not even after the first week. yes This isn't the Browns organization, Mike. yeah They played like it on Sunday. But um on the Jets side of the ledger, they're not exactly the shining embodiment of health either. Now, Minka Fitzpatrick, based on how he went down in a heap on Sunday, I doubt he's going to play this. In fact, I would be willing to bet there it's more likely he goes on IR.
Speaker: designated to return than he plays on Sunday. like when you're When you're the kind of DB that he is and you go down with the kind of growing injury that just leaves you in a heap on the sideline, like that's not something you just bounce back from ah in a week's time. um David Onyemata was a not injury-related rest day. But otherwise, you know including Fitzpatrick, they had four other guys other than Onyemata who are DNPs in rookie receiver Omar Cooper Jr., the before mentioned aforementioned Minka Fitzpatrick, running back Kenny Wongu, and Edge Joseph Osai, who is a solid player himself. And then... um
Speaker: Rookie cornerback D'Angelo Pons, linebacker Jamie and Sherwood were limited, and ah veteran cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. with the shoulder participant. but yeah Isn't that kind of weird that we're calling him a veteran and he's only been in the league for like one, two years? Three or something. like Well, he's been cut by a team already.
Speaker: i so the the The Lions at that just never just could never stay healthy. The former fighting Joey Van Zoumer and Jarvis Brownlee Jr., if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker: no I think Brownlee's from Louisville. Was he really? Oh, maybe you're right. and There was the other guy from Missouri, though, who had a kind of similar name, though. Ah, shucks. If Brownlee's the one that I'm thinking of, I think you're thinking the wrong You are correct. Yeah, no, no, no. there is the There's the Mizzou kid that Detroit gave up on because he couldn't stay healthy. But you're right. Brownlee is the the Louisville, um what's it called? He was he was Mafi's Jair Light prospect.
Speaker: Yeah, and he started with the Titans because you said the Lions. was like, I don't remember the guy playing for the Lions, but I do remember Brownlee because I was kind of a little bit hyped on him too. liked Even has a shoulder injury to boot. Right.
Speaker: um But yeah, the I mean, this Jets team is one of those that, is he, are they going, are they actually trying to be a legit team or is this like all in for...
Speaker: Right. what are What are the marching, the March for Arch and all that kind of stuff. Yeah. So what's the one that, uh, Mensa or whatever it is. Oh yeah. martin sanza Yeah.
Speaker: yeah So who knows, but it's, it's one those that with you coming off a loss, like you suffered against the Vikings, do you,
Speaker: you can't come out flat against a team like this. Yep, exactly. this team, even though may not be great, they've got some players over there and they're going to hit your weaknesses.
Speaker: And if you come out flat, they're going to take advantage of it, especially on concrete. It's just... So didn the Jets are one of those teams that they're like five players at important positions for being a very talented roster because you've got a lot, you know, when you're shit for a decade, you've got a lot of top five, top 10 value picks and stuff. um Rookie right tackle, definitely of the ah joyy van fighting Joey Van Zoomerans, Armand Membu, looked pretty solid in his first game last week. um
Speaker: You know, the Packers' defense is going to have to be on its toes again. You've got to deal with Garrett Wilson, um the embattled but very talented Adonai Mitchell. um As you said, we'll see how Cooper or progresses through the week.
Speaker: um He would be their slot receiver. And then... You know, at the pivot point of the old line is old friend Josh Myers. So, um you know, they've got talent on the perimeter and a quarterback in Geno Smith who's not afraid to wing it deep if you given the opportunity. So,
Speaker: um you know, it's good that is a full participant. Oh, shit. Mason Taylor. Yep, Jason Taylor's son. So imaginative. but And first-round pick Kenyon Sadiq at tight end. So like I said, they they have a lot of talent um on their offense at the skill positions. It's too bad they don't have a quarterback.
Speaker: I know. ti um And then even at running back, you still have a tandem of Brees Hall and Braylon Allen. Allen is one of the more overrated recent Wisconsin players. But if you let if you're going to give him the opportunity to just bludgeon you at the line of scrimmage, he'll do that. So you've got to be you got to be willing and able to tackle at the line of scrimmage there.
Speaker: um It's good that Cissé looks to be trending towards playing, but, um you know, like I said, you really want Lucas to be able to play this game because you've got to be able to pressure Gino in this game, and you're going to want to I'm sure they're going to want to keep guys in coverage because of the, you know, weapons on the perimeter. Obviously, not to the level of a Justin Jefferson or anything, but Wilson is a scary player in terms of his physical and athletic gifts, and... um has been a productive pro his whole career you know the thing is that well i'll get into that later but um no i want to do it now because we're talking corner and having to cover i'd laugh that a lot of these guys are a lot of these packer content creators are all like oh well nixon shut up everybody with his performance against the vikings and it's like he had what a couple of good plays
Speaker: He caught an arm punt, made a couple nice plays behind the line of scrimmage. But when it was in cover, did he have a pass breakup of any sort of meeting? No. was just getting beat like a drum by Justin Jefferson in coverage. like Sure, he was there to escort him out of bounds. or and he did And I'll give him credit, like all the effort questions. He was the one who chased down Aaron Jones just in case when Evan Williams and the rest of the defense took a shit in the middle of the play. But um like, no, he wasn't great.
Speaker: What was the one stat that was going around that is the passer rating going against him was like 47? so which Which just proves passer rating is stupid because it was only low because he didn't give up a touch. He didn't technically give up a touchdown. Like, that's all. And not just that.
Speaker: how Again, this goes back to Carson Wentz threw for 133 friggin' yards. He didn't pass a lot. Nope. So, ah yeah, I mean, your passer rating is going to be low when a quarterback isn't throwing a ton anyway. So that that's something to keep an eye on this week is to see. Now, I will put it this way. If he starts stacking successes, which I'm not too confident he is, go for it. it This Vikings game feels like the Washington game last year.
Speaker: Oh, well, he's going to be the number one receiver. He's going to be, or not receiver, number one corner. He's the top dog. He's this, this, and this. let's see a Let's see him build on it. Let's see him. Like you said, it's not even stacking successes. It's like, okay, let's let's see a good game first. right Because because like like if he doesn't have either the sack...
Speaker: If he doesn't have one of those three plays, like and one of them doesn't even count because the NFL ruled that Aaron Jones was tackled at the line of scrimmage kind of thing. But if he doesn't have one of those three, that the the arm punt that he ah like, even that play, I'm like yelling at the TV. I'm like, why are you breadbasket catching it like and your hip kind of thing? Like he's lucky that he didn't get run into in a way that the ball got deflected by like another helmet or something. But he's like running like he's catching a loaf of bread falling out of the air kind of thing. And then the sack, like, yes, good job making sure Wentz is down kind of thing. But it's like, I mean, it was a split sack and stuff. So like, and and are we are we more critical of Nixon? Sure. But let's not, you know, we're not putting, you don't, there's a lot of people putting a shit ton of lipstick on the pig here.
Speaker: and And he wasn't even the driving force on the sack anyway. It was Jonathan Ford. Yes. He just cleaned it up a little. And I don't even consider what he did clean up because Ford had it. Like, that's one of those where, like, if I'm any other pass rusher and I'm like,
Speaker: that motherfucker got a half a sack for that. like Or if I'm Jonathan Ford, I'm like, I have him. like You owe me something. You took half of my sack. You owe me.
Speaker: Agree. So, I mean... We'll see. and you know that's basically all I have to say on that. because i just i It might be time to start bringing back my favorite segment because it was just getting sickening seeing a lot of these guys who were just frigging, well, he's he's doing this and he's doing that. And it's like, no, he wasn't.
Speaker: yeah He had a couple of good plays. It it wasn't a full game of that. Otherwise, yeah we wouldn't have been in the situation we were in. Exactly. Like, all the key third down plays, who's the guy in coverage? Like, they don't count for a lot because they were like third and sixes and stuff like that, but... Catch on the sideline. Oh, Nixon is in coverage. like Come on. Like, let's... So... But, yeah, you know...
Speaker: This is one of those games where it's like, don't be heroes, guys. Just play sound football. Don't let Brees Hall go wild on you. Don't let this olline this young O-line gain momentum or anything like that.
Speaker: You want Lucas to play because you want him or um Sorrell to put the rookie you know put the rookie in hell. um like And that's the thing is, like the defense, for all intents and purposes, did take care of business.
Speaker: Like the offense needed to score more touchdowns in the red zone. The rest needed to not screw them. You know, three strikes you're out, screw them on one drive. And then they were just totally compromise left in a compromising position with the two late turnovers. So, you know, everyone does the like, oh my God, the the Vikings scored 22 points in like four minutes. And it's like, well, you better score 22 points when you get the ball on like your, on the opponent one and the opponent five yard line kind of thing and stuff. And Not that it would have mattered, but I did think it was, and we didn't talk about this on Sunday, but another bad piece of referee. I thought it was horseshit that the Vikings got the ball on the six-inch line after the Jordan fumble. Because I'm like, he's lying on top of Jordan when he grabs the football. let
Speaker: That was one of those, i was like... a hey what are you doing? yeah like yeah he didn't yeah He didn't mission impossible himself into a plank to not touch his knees or his elbows to the ground. like He's like half lying on Jordan, half lying on the ground as he grabs the ball kind of thing. i was like,
Speaker: That one felt like them giving it back to the Vikings after quote-unquote taking away the Jones long run. Oh, yeah yeah. anyway, we're here to talk about Jets, and I was just going through their roster, and it's surprising how many ex-Packers they have over there.
Speaker: Right. ah Josh Myers. yeah Kingsley, Inigbare, they have Brant Banks, Jack Heflin on the practice squad. That's right!
Speaker: ah So, yeah, that's crazy. And then on... And that's enough on the offense. Because like I said, what's going to have to happen on offense, they're just going to have to play a sound game. And, you know, any other year, it's like, oh, God, can they do that? They did that last week. Like, that's the main point I'm trying to make is they did do that last week. And they just got screwed by circumstance at the end, you know, in the last, like, eight minutes of the game. Screwed by circumstance.
Speaker: It's on the other side of the ball that there's going to be some currents, primarily because... while not as aggressive as um as Flores, Aaron Glenn is not afraid to dial up some blitzes.
Speaker: And after seeing what Flores did to the Packers offensive line last week, you should bet that Aaron Glenn is like, well, fuck it. I'm going to throw the kitchen sink too because, you know, we might score 17 or 20.
Speaker: So we got to make sure they don't score 24 kind of thing. And, um you know, like there's a lot Like you said, there's some ex-Packers in Kingsley. um There's some ex-Draft Pick um crushes, you know like Will McDonald um was someone that the two of us talked about. X-Cyclone. Nope, didn't like it. From my personal list, um Azariah azarrea Thomas, um Malachi Moore, Andre Siskel, names from yesteryear. um
Speaker: The big one, literally and figuratively, is going to be Tavondre Sweat. and And Harrison Phillips is no slouch either at the other defensive tackle spot.
Speaker: and And I'm not saying that either. I mean, Harrison ah Phillips is is is something else. But Tavondre Sweat, big boy, 366, and can plays using it.
Speaker: and he can play he plays using it And I do think that's why they're willing to be like, we can live with slotting Belton in if he makes some, like, he's not going to get beat by quickness this week. We just need someone who's not goingnna get driven into um who's not going to get driven into New Brunswick on every snap. kind of like they're They're looking at it that way.
Speaker: If it were me, and it's not me because I don't get paid to do it, I would definitely start the rookie. at one of the guard positions.
Speaker: I'm probably gonna be left guard because then I would put Belton at right guard. Either that or you're gonna have to put Burton at center and put Ryan at one of the guard positions. which I think Ryan plays better as which is weird plays better at center than he does at a guard position. So if you're really wanting to do it, you're goingnna have to you're going to have to put some beef out there.
Speaker: I mean, there's no ifs, ands, or buts about it. You're going to have to put some beef out there because, like I said, Sweat, 366. Phillips, 307. phils three ah seven ah They have the rookie Darryl Jackson at 315.
Speaker: um You know, that was a guy that we kind of talked about during the draft process. They've got beef out there and you've got to meet beef with beef none and then and not get fans, especially if you want to do anything with the run game.
Speaker: um yeah And this was another thing that was kind of driving me nuts with it was they were all complaining about Zach Tom and Jordan Morgan. I didn't have a problem with either one of those.
Speaker: They, again, matter of circum, like it's, it's not really, you know, you you got to read the context of the moment kind of thing. Like your tackles are going to look worse when your, ah your interior leaves your quarterback, no place to step up in the pocket. Or if you can't run the ball and the edge rushers are like, fuck it. I don't need to play the run kind of thing. Like, um, I'll just stick an arm out. If I think the running back has the ball, like,
Speaker: Like that clearly was Minnesota's mentality on Sunday. And the what's frustrating is the Packers intentionally ball gag themselves and god handcuffed their right arm to their left leg by you know starting Donovan Jennings and doing things that they were doing. And they still were within their margin of error for 80% of the game on Sunday.
Speaker: and it fell apart. Until Flores realized he could just continue to send the blitz and not have any worry about even then, he really, like, I know he was blitzing throughout the game, but he didn't go fucking psycho until they took the lead and he was like, well, now I know they have to pass, so fuck it. Like, he, like, you know, even that drive that ended in the failed QB sneak, he was still sim pressuring and, you know, doing that kind of stuff or like, you know, showing eight, sending five kind of things and stuff like that. It wasn't until, like,
Speaker: they took the three-point lead that Flores like, fuck it, I'm going to rush eight every play and like, if they if they score an 80-yard touchdown, so be it. Like, that that was his mentality that whole drive after they took the lead. and it And it totally worked for them because at that point, like I said, you can operate within the thin margin of error when you're either in the lead or the game is in enough, like, within enough of a balance. But once you lose the rope on that, that shit just goes right out the window and Flores had all the momentum. And like I said, um...
Speaker: Glenn isn't that blitz crazy, but he would blitz a bunch with like the Lions. yeah His background is with some teams that have blitzed before. You said it though, that now that they've seen what they have to do on tape, you know, there's going to be a lot more of it just because we're going to dare you to stop it yep We're going to dare you to stop it now. Are you going to be able to stop it or are you just going to let us do it?
Speaker: But anyway, we got to go back to the defensive side of the ball. We keep going off on these offensive tangents. yeah um So, yeah, i I agree with what you stated earlier about the Lucas Van Ness, Javon Hargrave situation.
Speaker: If Hargrave is out, I think it's a little bit easier to replace with like a Campbell or or somebody like that. ah Lucas is going to be a little bit rougher. um But it it just it's really weird that they all of a sudden popped up ah going through the protocol. so you know like not i Let me put this out there. I'm not saying taking concussions lightly or anything like that. Right, right. But it's almost as if they came in with like a migraine and they were like, oh shit. Yeah.
Speaker: You're in, and that is the, you're in protocol because you played a game and now you have a headache kind of thing. again Yeah. Yeah. So yeah it makes me wonder if it's something like that. Um, and it might not be, he could legit have done something that, you know, hell I was just telling Mike, I almost had a deer on the way home. I probably suffered a concussion with how much I was banging my head on the back of the seat, just whatever.
Speaker: But, um, Yeah. oh Whereas I'm still not completely, even without Lucas, I'm not completely defeatist on the pass rush. Oh, no, no, no. Yeah, yeah, Because they, they you know, Brenton Cox still look pretty decent.
Speaker: Denied Dennis Sutton had a couple of decent pressures out there. I would be a little bit more happy if we had Colin Oliver out there, and I know that's weird for... Me to say, Beings, we really don't know what he could do, but he's at least got that speed that most guys... most um he gives you another look. He gives you a different look from the rest of your room. Yeah.
Speaker: So... Not saying I want Lucas to be out, and I have to say a couple of comments we after I posted the clip of um us praising Lucas and then next the comments we were getting. Well, now he's out with a concussion. It's like, okay, guys. People talk like he he like he asked to be out with a concussion. Like, calm the fuck down, people. We're like, oh, um...
Speaker: But yeah, and that's, and I had this conversation with a guy at, at, uh, GalaxyCon on Saturday, cause he asked me, this was obviously before the Vikings game and he goes, well, uh, do you think the Packers have a shot? And I, you know, I, him hawed and said, well, yeah, anybody's got a shot and all that good stuff. And I hope they win and all that. and he goes, well, that, that list is a laundry list of injuries. And I said,
Speaker: Yeah, but after, and this is what Mike and I have talked about for so long, after the issue the Falcons had with getting in trouble for not reporting injuries, the Packers have went completely conservative on it.
Speaker: Yep. And they are going to report, if you come in with a hangnail, they're going to report it as a finger injury. And like I said, five of those guys on the list were all guys who came off of PUP or in Brinson's case had an injury in preseason. So like they that's an auto list and it's an easy auto list too. So no surprises there. But...
Speaker: um like the own like Like, I agree with you. I'm not like, if Lucas has to sit this game, it's not like a, oh God, it's more of a like, all right, offense, you better score because you're just short bodies on defense and like, you can't get into one of those situations. And where I think Gannon will help himself, he's like,
Speaker: well, I'm not going to let our defense just get bled down the field because we're going to run out of guys who can play. You know, they're going to all get tagged and fatigued out kind of thing. So it's like... we're just going to gamble kind of thing. And we're either going to get big play or give up big play, but at least we're not going to get bled down the field for an 18-play, like, 12-minute possession kind of thing. You know, like like, that's how you're going to lose this kind of game. So you you've got... Offense has got to score, and defense get off the field.
Speaker: Ideally without giving up scores, but yeah. Right, and I wonder if... If Lucas is out that we see, ah more like, no, no, no, no. Um, Oh, I see what you, I know where you're going. Yeah. Yeah. More, uh, uh, linebacker style blitz is not necessarily throwing edge out there completely, but you're going to see more packages where you're going to see like, uh,
Speaker: McDuffie Cooper Franklin or Neiman Cooper Franklin or something like that, where, you know, Neiman or McDuffie is, are going to be the ones that are going to be pure, uh, blitzing.
Speaker: So it makes me wonder if they'll do something like that. Again, you may also see something like Brooks at defensive end or something like that as well. Just to like, yeah, with.
Speaker: With what we saw the defense do in Minnesota, minus the quote-unquote giving up 22 points, even though I still think it's... it will Noise more than... Yeah, it's it's circumstance more than... Right, like when you're getting flagged for every little touch that you do, you know it it's yeah it's hard not to give up points.
Speaker: Gannon had a hell of a game plan. Yep. If we can see that more... If we can see that this coming Sunday, even down luke ah Lucas, I think it's going to be, i think we'll have a, the only downfall is how long are we going to be able to hand hang on to Gannon if he continues to put game plans out there like that?
Speaker: Yep. Um, like it was, you know, he's going to want another shot in the league. It's just, when are they going to give him the shot? And I think this is where it kind of helps that, you know, the, the, like the little like commentary from the league is he's weird. And it's like, do other teams want to deal with his kind of weird kind of thing? Like that, that may be one where he's real.
Speaker: I know. he's He's sort of like a... um it but one of the like ah Michigan has this fan site, it's called EmgoBlog, and one of the jokes they make about like certain coaches is they're like, they he is a robot emulating a human if a robot tried to act like a human at times. You watch some of his interviews, it's kind of like...
Speaker: ah That's definitely Jonathan Ginn. And I'm telling you, I, I think it's just an AI and they have like a body double for them or something. Yup.
Speaker: But. Any other thoughts? or like I think they're going to win, but this is definitely like it's week two, but you have to win this game. like you After you've screwed the pooch against Minnesota, and even if they you know even if they had beaten Minnesota, this would still be a not must win because like season's on the line, but it's like ah you need to bank this win against this bad of a team kind of thing. so like You can't start the season 0-2.
Speaker: There is yeah no way in hell you can start. i Not in this division. You're already down in the hole. You're down 0-1. The rest of the division went 1-0 last week. And you also, you lost a division and a conference game. So you're totally behind the eight ball now.
Speaker: I, well, even if it wasn't the jets, if it was some other teams, there is no way you can go. oh and two to start the season. So yeah, ah don't know. Is there any other thing else?
Speaker: Oh, and you know, just to put it out there, smack needs to continue to build success, build on successes. That way we touch all the frigging wheeling. Let's see some more of them frigging coffin corners. am My dude, that that was a hell of a frigging kick.
Speaker: Uh, I think that covers our special teams, so. Yep.
Speaker: Over-unders, are you ready? Yeah, I think I got some here. All right. You'll have to fancify them for your own gratification here. um This one's a rollover. I didn't even put this. Mike rolled it over from but week one. Does Matthew Golden get his first regular season touchdown? i said it from the beginning. i am going to be ride or die for Matthew Golden.
Speaker: He was close a couple times. He did put up 95 yards off a few catches. they They said he had a few other targets, which was, i think a couple of them could be construed as not targeted. They were just in the vicinity.
Speaker: um But yeah, I think he gets it this week. Same. i'm goingnna go I'm going with yes. like let's Let's get it done. um This one I had to lower the number a little bit after last week. Marshawn Lloyd over under 40.5 rushing yards.
Speaker: what did you What are you going?
Speaker: I'm going to say...
Speaker: I'm going to say no. I think he hits about the 40 mark just because I'm worried about that beef up front. And I just, I don't know. I'm also saying under partly for that and partly because I think we're going to see some Caleb this week.
Speaker: i think Who knows? i I'm still at a confusion of why he didn't play any last week. I think that was a matter of circumstance. And while i with you, like, you can't leave bullets in the gun. i think they're like, we're already already at a negative on the O-line. We don't want a running back who might run the wrong way kind of thing and pass protection and stuff. so and And in the end, it didn't matter because Chris Brooks got run the fuck over on the interception. So, like, Bob's your uncle. Yeah.
Speaker: So yeah, I took the under on that. ah Christian Watson over under 76 and a half yards. I didn't fully make it a half of what he had last week, but it does appear that Watson is becoming Jordan's favorite target.
Speaker: ah So what are you going on for over under on 76 and a half yards? I'm going over because i don't know who's going to cover him in this Jets secondary. like And especially if Minka's out this game, like I just don't like their options for covering. you know their Their best option is put Jordan on his back, which unfortunately might work. But we also saw that Jordan off one foot and halfway running for his life was like, you know,
Speaker: Watson at 140 or whatever it was. So yeah, like I'm going to say over. So to kind of, I was going to do this anyway, but just to kind of be different than you, I'm going to go under a little bit because I think they're going to get Kraft and more involved.
Speaker: yeah um I can see that. Get him a little bit more involved, get Golden a little bit more involved and you know, whatever they have, the Jets have on defense,
Speaker: they're going to put it all on stopping Christian Watson after him putting up 147 last week. last week it's It's interesting because like, um, Reed has been the Viking killer in his like career. Like he has feasted on the Viking and he got like four targets, dropped one of them, three catches for like 20 yards or whatever the hell it was.
Speaker: And it was actually Golden who paced the team with targets with, I think, a dozen. And like you said, how real were a bunch of those? you know That's to be debated. But between him and Watson, there were 20 quote-unquote targets. And like you said, 14 to 16 were real, you know were actually real targets in there. So um good to see. And yeah, I think that there's it's one of those where I get the feeling that unlike in his past big years where Jaden like had to produce because no one else was really producing, I think they're going to really try to establish
Speaker: Golden and Watson on the outside and Kraft, like you said, just really get Kraft back in the fold. And then as a consequent of those three guys being the top three guys, then it's like Reed's gonna go back to where he's always been his best, which is like just attacking seams, you know, in in where the coverage falls apart because everyone's eyes are on those other three guys. It's like, oh, look who's screaming wide the fuck open is Jaden. And please, Jaden, catch the fucking ball. Like, look.
Speaker: So yeah. Yeah, I agree. um So I put this one on here because I kind of mentioned it earlier that, you know, denied Dennis Sutton did get some pressures ah and he he was doing pretty good against the Vikings. Just don't jump off sides.
Speaker: I'm going to put this out there. oh Does he get his first sack of his career? I'm going to say yes. I think he's going to be able to. Let's go positive. Let's let's go positive and back the young guys. Yes.
Speaker: um So, all right. That one was quick. This one, hated putting this one on there, but it makes sense. Well, you see my answer.
Speaker: Over under seven a half hits taken by Jordan Love. i say over This all going to depend on what they do with the offensive line.
Speaker: Right. And everyone has to remember, QB... Like... QB hits and knockdowns, depending on what site you go to, are different stats. I count them as the same because someone physically contacted the quarterback but didn't sack them. So I'm saying, yeah, it's gonna be it's going to be over until they prove it's not. like That's just going to be my attitude so as not to like totally lose my mind every game until it's not ah as much of a problem kind of thing.
Speaker: I actually was going to set the number at like 11 and a half. yeah But I was like, no. Like said, really depends. If seven and a half, if you're going by one of the sites that does separate hits from knockdowns, that's still a lot.
Speaker: ah I'm going to say under because I think they do in the Donovan Jennings ah trial um unless something happens, but...
Speaker: ah Yeah. i i I guess I'm putting the juju out there that he's not going to take as many hits. The last one i think is obvious for the both of us. Cissé over under half a pass breakup.
Speaker: Yes. and I said yes. I'm going to give it to him. I'm gonna let the kid fly. i really struggled with these because I should put penalties over under 15 and a half. Oh, fuck's sake.
Speaker: and But we don't have Hockey League this week, and we're not playing the Vikings, so we should be good. Shoot him into space. i I still think it needs to be taken a look at because if he's literally... If the Vikings are 7-1 with him... Dusty Evely did like a 10-minute segment on Wisconsin radio. like That's how you know it was terrible, that Dusty, of all people, was like...
Speaker: ah Instead of pointing out what went right or wrong on plays, I'm going to get out my soapbox and bitch out of the refereeing. You really fucked up if you got dusty talking about nothing other than in how bad the refereeing was.
Speaker: the The Bears and Vikings fans fuck off. Even the Lions fans fuck off. They want to keep going after, well, the Phantom face mask calls and they didn't get the calls on face masks.
Speaker: There were two of them in the Viking game that didn't get called. Lions fans are still throwing a fit about the the Hail Mary one. And then the bears are all up in arms, well, the sour grapes.
Speaker: But I also have to laugh. So on one of the clips on TikTok a while back when we were doing the... ah
Speaker: doing the ah oh season preview where we were making our predictions on, i I posted a clip about the Bears and we both said, fuck the Bears and we're not going to take them to win and all that stuff.
Speaker: One of them said, oh, well, we're 3-0 in the Bears. And I said, yeah, but they're they've only won 13 in the last whatever in the last 20 years. Well, Packers fans love to live in the past, don't they?
Speaker: What are you guys doing?
Speaker: What are you guys doing? You guys are living in the past off all that stuff, but in the end, yeah. Got to produce on the field. Yep. Right.
Speaker: So yeah, I, I'm going to give him the pass break back to C. Say I'm going to give him pass break. Also lions fans shut up about refereeing. You literally won the game because the NFL made a rule up for you last week because they felt sorry for Jared Goff. So like,
Speaker: Yeah. yeah what it what What's the big thing? Derangement syndrome? This is Packard derangement syndome syndrome. All right. Before the two of us lose our minds to delirium that you know we're we're taping late in the day, Joe joe avoided animal cruelty. No, I'm kidding.
Speaker: Well, if you would ask the cat, I am probably being cruel because this is the cat's normal spot, as you can tell by my crooked frigging pictures. so But um we'll put a bow on it. As we both said earlier, we're both picking the Packers, partly because they should, partly because they absolutely need to win this game. Get back in the winning ways. You know, it helps that unless unless Chicago and Minnesota go absolute brain dead and tie, one of those teams in the NFC North is definitely going to have one loss on their record. So got to get to one-on-one game.
Speaker: We're the noon game, yes. Okay. Have they released the ah map for it yet? I believe they should have at this point. um
Speaker: I don't remember. Let's see. 506 sports. Yep. We are... You're to get the Minnesota-Chicago game.
Speaker: we are you're not goingnna you're goingnna get the minnesota chicago game Well, no, I'm not, but you know, I thank you for appreciating. Um, no, I will say this, uh, I don't know. And obviously there's not too much trouble you get for them because for having them, but you can, cause you can get them off like Amazon and shit like that. But, um, I got a box that I can watch every station from every city in the United States. So
Speaker: or not every state, a city, but you know, a good majority of the one. So even though I'm not in market, I'm technically in market. The only problem is, is we, I tried watching it this past Sunday and it's like two or three or not minutes, but like 30 seconds behind everybody. ah It's about rerouting.
Speaker: Yeah. So I had to stay off of social medias while watching it. So. Well, Twitter is so bogged down even when it's not a sports day that like I don't know if you would necessarily see spoilers in time. did. was. okay. like, no. I guess it's that much of a lag.
Speaker: Yeah. But anyway, ah before Mike goes into the final spiel, I will be doing the live after. So join us over there. ah i'm searching for somebody to join me on that. If not, it'll just be me blabbing away again, answering questions and all that. Hopefully it's a good day, not a bad day.
Speaker: ah That'll be about an hour after the end of the game. Yep. So check us out um at Ohana underscore Packers on Twitter at Ohana Packers edition on Instagram. Please continue to follow us on Facebook. So when Joe goes live, he will continue to go live there. Please don't unsubscribe and put us back under a hundred. We'll be doing the drawing here pretty soon as soon as I figure out how to get the names off of ah ah Facebook to put them in a a document.
Speaker: Please follow the podcast on your favorite podcasting apps because the likes and the subscribe if you're willing to. Packers,
Speaker: Let's not get to lucky or unlucky number seven in this case. Get a friggin' win. Get back in the column. Put the number in the left column on the record. let's let's get you know let's Let's get to a point where we can say week one is stupid. It was a stupid game. It's unfortunate we lost. Don't continue to the trend. like Get this win and get a good win.
Speaker: um And stay healthy. And stay healthy. I know. Please, please, please, please don't die on the concrete turf. Like, I'm not even joking about that. Maybe if we lied to the NFL that they were playing a soccer game instead of a football game, yeah soccer turf back on there. Football. No, I said football.
Speaker: That's Iowa Joe. I'm Mike. Go Pack Go and Aloha.
