This week on One More Run, we’re joined by the Rise and Run gang — Bob, Lexi, John, Jack, and Greg — to create the ultimate Top 10 list of must-do things for a runDisney race weekend.

Together, we talk about what actually makes these races special: slowing down, soaking it all in, taking all the photos, cheering for strangers, making new friends, and leaning into the community that keeps us all coming back. We also have a lot of fun along the way with some classic “Would You Rather” scenarios that only runDisney runners will truly understand.

If you’re new to runDisney, running a perfect season, or just need a reminder of why you fell in love with this community in the first place — this episode is for you!

Hey there, friends. We have a huge treat for you on this episode of the podcast. We're going to create the ultimate top 10 list of things you must do a Run Disney Race weekend. And because we want the list to be perfect, we've asked for some help from some friends you might know.
00:00:23
Speaker
Hi, friends. Welcome to episode 25 of the One More Run podcast. I'm Bob, and I'm here this week with- Bob, this is this is our podcast.
00:00:34
Speaker
Oh, I just have a AJ, it's just habit. I'm sorry. Hey there, friends. I'm AJ, and this is Erica. And from that voice, you know that we have the Rise and Run gang on the One More Run podcast. Welcome to the podcast, guys. Oh, hey, hey, hey. How you doing? Hey.
00:00:50
Speaker
Awesome. So not only is Bob here. We're here with Lexi. hi With John. Hey, how you doing? You can answer if you want. I usually don't. Okay.
00:01:01
Speaker
With Jack. Hiya. And with Greg. Hey, hey, hey. Hey guys, welcome to our podcast. We're so thrilled to have you. We're a tiny little baby podcast and we've been listening to y'all for years. And so we're just thrilled that you've joined us today and we've got some fun things in store, but we are just so thrilled to have

Community and Collaboration

00:01:18
Speaker
y'all. So just so you guys know, the goal of our podcast is to be helpful, right? We want to reduce stress. We want you to arrive at your race, you know, ready to go. And the Rise and Run Gang is going to help us do that today. We're going to be creating the perfect top 10 list of things you need to must do, right? You got to do these things when you're Run Disney from the experts. Right. who have done it even a lot longer than us. So before that, can we read a review, Erica? Yeah, totally. And I'm excited about this review because the listener also listens to Rise and Run and even mentioned it in the review. So I wanted the Rise and Run gang to hear it. Awesome. Go for it. all right. So this is from Likis, I think is how you pronounce that. don't know how say either. um But it's titled Great Information. I found your podcast a few weeks ago after listening to the Rise and Run podcast where they interviewed you both.
00:02:02
Speaker
I am new to both podcasts. I am not new to Run Disney, having done Princess Weekend the last two years and running Dumbo in January. Awesome. I really enjoy listening to you both and hearing some of the practical information. I laugh out loud a few times each show. I also enjoy the non-Run Disney info you provide. I hope you continue beyond your planned set of shows.
00:02:23
Speaker
that was awesome. That was very nice. Thank you very and much. And love that they found us through y'all. I know. Thank you all. you You guys have such an amazing community. You've invited us into it. We've been listening to you for years, but you've invited us in with open arms as like another podcast. And Greg, you said it when we were on your show that like a rising tide lifts all boats or whatever. And we we believe that too, but we really, we just love what you guys do and just want to be a small part of you know the community, help share what we know. So By the way, you still haven't told us where to send those chicks about the nice things that you say about us. Just ah the hang tight after the recording. Okay. All right. Sounds good. Okay. i but I've got the wire transfer ready. Oh,
00:02:59
Speaker
We're going to dive into some stuff, but I did want to tell you guys what we love about your podcast and just kind of like, I know you hear it all the time, but Erica, I'm going to go first. You have time to think about it because I didn't tell you about this question. No, it's fine. But guys, who I just love the community you create, right? And even before we started our podcast, you bring people together. You literally help us believe that we can do things we didn't think that we could do. And the encouragement, the support, the holler hype, just literally listening to you in the car every single week just lifts my spirits. so I was listening to you on a run this week that I didn't want to do the run. You know those runs when you're like, sure I don't want to do this anymore. Anyway, i was listening to you guys. I mean, that literally got me through another hour and a half of this long run. So thank you all for what you do. Erica, what you love about rising? I mean, like everything he just said, I love y'all's like camaraderie and just like you said, like I'll be on a run and I won't be wanting to do it, of course. And I'm just laughing. Like you guys ah say the most hilarious things. And I love just like your banter with each other. And like you said, the community that you've created and yeah,
00:04:00
Speaker
you know, just making everybody feel like they're welcome and everyone, everyone can do around Disney. So I love that. and And we thank you guys so much. We we usually say that we want you know people to feel confident and prepared and and you know whatever, maybe even inspired to go to their do their first or or second, third, whatever, run Disney race. That's it that's kind of our our mission thing or whatever. Why do you guys do this, right? Because I know that it's not easy, right? This is a lot of work. You guys don't even have to pull together two schedules. You got a bunch of people to pull together every week. You do Zoom Thursdays. like It's just unbelievable to

The Role of Community in Running

00:04:30
Speaker
me what y'all do. Why do you do it?
00:04:31
Speaker
Go ahead, Jack. Because we're obsessed. ah Perfect. It sounded like a great idea at one time. yeah h a we do it we do it for the community.
00:04:45
Speaker
Everything that you said, we appreciate so much. And we believe you and we understand it. But I'm not sure that our friends understand just how much we get back.
00:04:56
Speaker
And we genuinely do. it's i mean I know personally, I'll let the others speak for themselves. would not be running anymore were it not for the community that has built up around the podcast and around run Disney. And that's why, that's why we continue to do it.
00:05:13
Speaker
Yeah. It's, it's so odd to be over four years into this journey and, Because of the amazing community and the community that is already established and the community that is still yet to get involved and embraced into you know this warm you know family hug that is Rise and Run.
00:05:35
Speaker
It astonishes me each and every single day. i am thinking about some aspects of whether it be run Disney or the rise and run community or an individual within that community. And it brings me so much joy. And i think that's why even after four years and, you know talking about the same topics over and over sometimes,
00:05:57
Speaker
you know Even though it it could get you know a little monotonous for for the listener, it's like we're still doing it for that listener that hasn't heard us yet or you know the listener that hasn't heard you guys or any of the other wonderful you know run Disney podcasts that that are out there because, again, we just want to be able to embrace everyone. And I think that drive is is what keeps all of us going each and every single day.
00:06:18
Speaker
love it. That's good. And, you know, I think for all of us, we started out doing the run Disney races by ourselves. um But, you know, coming into the run Disney weekends, not knowing anybody is daunting after you, i mean, you already have a daunting task of running a half marathon or 5k or 10k or a full marathon. You know, I feel like that has been really impactful for all of us of knowing Whenever we go, we, we have a community too.
00:06:50
Speaker
It's not just we're the hosts and then there's a community. It's like, we wouldn't be able to do this without you guys. And it's, you know, it, it's really important to us too.
00:07:02
Speaker
That's awesome. You took the words right out of my mouth, Lexi. But if I could just add a little bit to it. um I guess if anything, it just feels like the race weekends are like going home to see family. It's all your family, all your friends. And you get to make new family members and new friends, you know. and And it's just like, it's always so exciting to be like, how have you guys been It's always so good to see them during the races, cheer like everybody cheering each other on. It's just...
00:07:33
Speaker
There's something truly special about this community and I love it. yeah Again, obsessed. totally yeah Awesome. Well, thank you guys for sharing that. Thank you for what you do each and every week. Whenever, you know, Greg, you're editing and you get tired of editing late at night and whatever, just remember that there's all of us out here counting

Icebreaker: Would You Rather Questions

00:07:54
Speaker
on you. Right.
00:07:55
Speaker
We needed to get through that long run. Right. Awesome. Cool. Well, that was deep and like very meaningful, whatever, but I have some i have some um get to know you questions. So your your audience, right? And our our audience is yours. like yeah I know it's one community, right? that they They probably know you, but I've got some um would you rather questions that I think might you know go a little bit beyond the you know the normal things. So are you guys willing? Are you guys willing to answer some would you rathers, right? You got to one side of that. mean, we're here. We might as well, so. Okay, so I've got 10 of them. There's five of you here. Erica's got a bucket. Your name is in here twice. So she'll pull your name. You've got to answer first. Anybody else that wants to you know either confirm that that person made a good choice or not you know is welcome to chime in. However long this takes is fine. This is our warmup before we get to the top 10 list. Everybody everybody down with that and ready? is This is like family feud. It's like, good job, good job, good choice, good choice. Good answer. Good answer. That's what I was trying to go for. and Unless it's not a good answer, then feel free to call him out. That's totally cool. That'll happen. Great. All right, Erica. who's Yes. Okay. So first is going to be Jack. All right. You get the first one. Here you go. Here's your scenario.
00:09:02
Speaker
Your flight arrives at MCO at 5 p.m. on the day before your race, or you can't get the Disney app to load at all on the morning of the virtual queue. Oh, I've done that one. Which one which one yeah would you rather have to deal with? Late flight or no virtual queue app?
00:09:22
Speaker
No virtual queue app because I've already experienced that by figuring out that I was still in airplane mode trying to get my bib at the pickup on the first day of marathon weekend. So the technical error was on your own fault. Oh, absolutely. But it took it took me and one other person to figure that out.
00:09:40
Speaker
We could not figure out why I did not get any Wi-Fi to get my email to you know pop up. But we did it. it took like five, 10 minutes, but we figured it out. Okay. Well, that's not too long. I'll kick that one over a flight. Okay. Anybody else? Would you rather arrive later? You can't get the virtual queue because your app won't work.
00:09:58
Speaker
Virtual queue. Virtual queue. Yeah, I feel like flying in there is just asking out. Almost unanimous. Yeah, I agree. Are you the same, Erica? Yeah. Okay, perfect. I'm the same. I'll give up some merchandise if I have to. Right. Yeah. All right, next up, Erica. Okay, next up is Lexi. Dun, dun, dun. All right, you arrive at 11 a.m. at your resort, which is Port Orleans Riverside, by the way, and your room will not be ready until 10 p.m.
00:10:22
Speaker
Or you get upgraded to Animal Kingdom Lodge, which is a deluxe, but your room is all the way at the end of the hall. And it's available right now. 10 a.m. What do you do?
00:10:33
Speaker
Or 11 a.m.? Animal Kingdom Lodge. Hands down. Really? i need to i need to know why because I'm not taking Animal Kingdom Lodge. um I love Animal Kingdom Lodge. I know it gets a lot of hate, but I've only stayed there one time. yeah um So maybe that is where my bias comes in. Yeah.
00:10:53
Speaker
You'd rather walk a half marathon from the lobby to the room? Not a half marathon. Right. You'd a 10K. You just get the arms and just, you know, enjoy it.
00:11:06
Speaker
It is a beautiful resort. I just don't like that long walk. It's a warm up. Yeah. like like you have You have the right answer on this one because i i have stayed at both rather recently. And I remember, you know, because I had a like standard room. So I was shoved all the way in the back of the resort. And I literally walked around lugging my suitcase for like 15, 20 minutes trying to find my room in like the absolute back corner of the resort. I would much rather do that journey indoors with air conditioning where I don't have the potential to get rained on than having to do that journey outside.
00:11:45
Speaker
Yeah, but the hallways are carpeted at Animal Kingdom Lodge. That's what kills me. That is true. mean, you're literally- Your luggage is twice as heavy. It is tough to wheel your suitcase on the carpet. Yeah, I agree with you there, AJ. All right. Anybody choosing Port Orleans and and hanging out till 10 or everyone going Animal Kingdom? That's past my bedtime. I can't- Oh, okay. I'm ah drop dropping a luggage, going to the park, and figuring it out when I get back. Oh, good. So you're staying with your original resort?
00:12:09
Speaker
Yep. Good. Me too. All right, Erica, who's next? John is next. John. Perfect. You get a free individual lightning lane pass for your favorite attraction, but it's only good for 9.30 PM the night before your half marathon, or you get a free individual lightning lane pass for your favorite attraction, but it's only good for 9.30 AM after the half marathon. 9.30 AM.
00:12:32
Speaker
Get that tron. I'm going. All right. All sweaty and everything. Got it. Yeah, I have to agree. Because technically you have from 9.30 a.m. until 10.30 a.m. Because you have an hour. Okay, buying little time. Okay, got it.
00:12:46
Speaker
Loopholes. I mean, heck, I would use that lightning, Elaine. Say you finished at Epcot, might as well go over to um Guardians of the Galaxy, ride that, and then go back for it. mean, it's a nice little air dry kind of moment. Okay.
00:13:03
Speaker
I'm sure everyone around you would appreciate it I'm sure. The guy behind you, yeah, forget about it. Might be little. Okay. All right, who is it? I got Bob Bob, Bob, this one I think was made for you. Uh-oh. Here we go. Your only food option for dinner the night before the half marathon is a chili cheese dog from Casey's Corner.
00:13:19
Speaker
Or there's no filtered water or water bottles during the entire weekend. Any and all water tastes like Florida. Sorry you forgot your flavor additives and electrolyte mixes. Oh, golly.
00:13:31
Speaker
Ooh. i I like to advertise it i have a cast iron stomach and I probably could do the chili cheese dog the night before, but I think I'd rather not. I think I would deal with the water instead.
00:13:42
Speaker
Yeah. Well, you are from Florida, so you kind of have a leg So got a leg up there, right? Right, yeah. that's That would be it. I'd go with the water. and Okay. Anybody else brave enough to answer this one? Chili cheese dog the night before or gross water?
00:13:55
Speaker
what what What distance are we running? ah Let's say... Something really long. how about at least At least a half, I would. At least a half. ah Drink the water. I think I'd rather eat the chili. would too. That water's great. Yeah, but water's nasty. I drink a lot of water in general. um And it might help, you know, with like the pre-run dinners. I don't know.
00:14:17
Speaker
oh yeah, yeah, yeah. It would do something. Yeah, it'll do it. You're reminding me of Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati. Wonderful, wonderful event. If you get a chance, go.
00:14:28
Speaker
But I do think that at the water stops, I think they pour the water out of a fire, out of a hose, out of a garden hose. Oh, gosh. It tastes like metal. Yeah, that's gross. That's gross. And there's a lot of chili there, too. So that is the perfect event to try this. Would you? Yeah.
00:14:44
Speaker
all right. Next up. I got John. All right. Race morning. Would you rather wait 35 minutes for a bus that finally arrives, but it's completely full and you have to stand in the aisle or sit in the back of a full bus and it's the driver's first day and she hasn't figured out how to use the brake smoothly yet?
00:15:01
Speaker
Okay. So I did have that last one. So I will take the standing, standing room only. Yeah. I hate it when it's a bus driver's. we Either they don't know where they're going or they haven't figured out how to use the brakes. Well, it's a little bit better now, I think, with the GPS, but it's... No, it's not. Okay. Nope.
00:15:21
Speaker
Okay. We have a story that's not a run Disney story about that. Our 16, was she 16 at the time? Yeah. 16 year old was on a bus with a friend trying to get from Magic Kingdom to our resort. The bus got lost off property.
00:15:35
Speaker
Wow. She's like calling us. She's like, they were driving around like hour. She's like, we just passed a Walmart. Oh my goodness. Anyway, they were circling. This driver could not figure it out. And it was a full bus. They to send another bus to save that bus. Oh. Oh, that's hilarious. Our 16-year-old was just off. Wow.
00:15:53
Speaker
I feel bad for the cast member. It was her first day. It was legit her first day. Wow, she just turned her ears? Yeah, and I said, Taylor, put me on the phone with the driver. I'll tell her how to get here. You imagine driving on I-4 and you just see Disney resort bus just rolling down the road. They pull up to Terminal B at the airport. This is a new Magical Express. Yeah, exactly. All right, we got Greg. Greg, half marathon is 80 degrees at the start line with 98% humidity, or it's 33 degrees with a 90% chance of rain at 630. Oh, I will take heat all day, every day over rain.
00:16:37
Speaker
Mm-hmm. i Actually, a couple of years ago when um we attempted to do the Loopy Looper ultra marathon 24 hour with our friends over We'll Run For podcast, yeah I got to experience both of these situations. And i get i would much rather deal with scorching temperatures and sunburn than have wet socks and get blisters on all my toes. So yeah, heat all day. Really? i agree. I want to hear from the Atlanta folks on this one. I'm going to say i prefer the cold.
00:17:11
Speaker
um But also, 90% chance of rain in Florida may mean that it will rain for like 10 minutes or it may rain for two hours. That's right. i I would take that risk over 85-degree weather. Lexi, I love you so much. And I know we're best friends, but highly disagree in that just because...
00:17:31
Speaker
i You would turn purple. you That, but I also, I have run through the rain at night, Daytona 100, and that was cold and it was wet and it was miserable. And I would rather run through the heat at that point. I think the heat's the way to go. Yeah. You got to understand AJ, what you described there. Yeah.
00:17:51
Speaker
During most of the summer, we call that Tuesday. Right. eyes Yeah. Right. Erica, what's your answer? I got to know. Oh, I say heat as well. You would? Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I don't like rain or cold.
00:18:04
Speaker
I guess it's rained on us like all our marathons. It has. i mean- just like used to it. Yeah, like Bob said, it's a Tuesday. All right, who's next? Speaking Bob, I got Bob. Bob. In the start line area, well, this one's probably not fair for Bob because you don't get character pictures very often, do you?
00:18:18
Speaker
not Not very often. sometimes. I'm skipping this question. i'm come I'm giving you a different one because I need someone who cares about character pictures. All right. I'm giving you number eight. All right. You forgot to charge your Garmin or your watch, you know, whatever it is, or you forgot to charge your headphones.
00:18:32
Speaker
Which scenario is worse? Long distance race. uh, for getting to charge my watch. That's worse. Yeah. At Disney, I don't wear headphones on any of the races. I do it on some of the training runs. and I listened to podcasts.
00:18:47
Speaker
Uh, so if it was a training run, it'd be a much tougher question for me. Oh, golly. On a training run? On a training run, I think I would rather have my headphones and not my watch. Totally. Down at Disney, I'd rather have the watch and not the headphones.
00:19:00
Speaker
Yeah. i think How's that for a cop-out answer, huh? Yeah. You and Lexi with the loopholes. Holy cow. Yeah. Yeah, right. All right. Anybody else have an opinion on that one? We'll call it a Disney half marathon. you Would you rather have your what you watch or your your headphones? I don't use either.
00:19:15
Speaker
Oh, I heard that one of your recent episodes. You're like, no watch. Yeah, apparently Jack loves naked running, apparently. No, John said that one. Oh, John. Hey, family-friendly podcast. I know you guys do whatever you want. That's what we said to him, too. heard that, yes.
00:19:30
Speaker
It's Garmin, because if you can't post it, it didn didn't happen. That's true. It's true. didn't happen. I'm a headphones girly. I, my watch, I mean, especially if you're at a race, you have the mile markers. Exactly. yeah You know how far you've gone. I mean, yeah, it's a Disney race and you know, it's not always accurate or right our watch is not always accurate, whichever one. Um, but headphones all the way. Okay. Who's next?
00:19:58
Speaker
Uh, I gotta go back a question. Hopefully it's someone who cares about pictures. Does Greg care about pictures? I don't know. Do you, Greg? Sure. Sure. I can care about pictures. Okay. Okay. I don't know. This one feels it'd be a good Greg one. I can't cheat the system. I'm sorry. No cheating. Okay. Whatever.
00:20:13
Speaker
Hey, it's your show. I know, right? That's true. It is my show. I appreciate you saying that. Okay, Greg. In the start lane area, you wait in a long line for your favorite character. Let's say maybe Powerline Max would be your jam, right? Good call. Your favorite character, long line, only to have them switch out right before your turn.
00:20:31
Speaker
Oh, Or you get the perfect photo with them, but you miss the cutoff time for your corral and you have to start a corral back. Oh, wo ah let's I'm going to say bumping back a corral because I feel like about half the time at run Disney, I'm bumping back anyway to be able to run with friends. So that is. isn't super detrimental to me. Like I've never run a run Disney race for time. yeah You know, it's all, again, it all comes back to community and everything like that. So to me, the, the corral bump is not a huge detriment whatsoever.
00:21:09
Speaker
What if you have to go all the way back with your dead last start friends and start all the way in the back? How do you feel about that?
00:21:17
Speaker
uh them then my thought process might change but yeah i love that episode this week by the way or whatever that was uh about the dead last star group it really helped me understand a few things i think i had misconceptions about totally so thanks for thanks for that episode anybody else choosing uh you know which one's worse right you waiting in a long line the character switches you know or you uh getting bumped in your corral which which one are you choosing I'm going Greg's way. Yeah. that I don't typically care that much about the Corral.
00:21:48
Speaker
Same thing. I'm not out to win. Yeah. Corrals. Jack. Perfect. You accidentally brought a disgusting gel flavor to the race, but you didn't.
00:22:00
Speaker
Peanut butter and jelly. Peanut butter and jelly. But you know it doesn't mess you up, or you take the fuel they have on course, but you've never even heard of the brand. Ooh. Oh,
00:22:12
Speaker
You're a trooper, Jack. I am a trooper. That's why i probably would never do the never have I ever on the day of the race. Right. Yeah. So i don't I don't think I could because I have so much stomach issues if I try something new on the race day, which I have in the past.
00:22:30
Speaker
But I've learned my lesson after a few times. I've definitely got to go the way of, unfortunately, probably a peanut butter and jelly flavored goo chew would probably be the worst thing. But, you know, i live. You have a problem with the peanut butter and jelly flavor? Oh, yeah.
00:22:46
Speaker
Oh, God, yeah. It's awful. And Uncrustable is like the perfect way to start race. What race was that, Jack, that you did? Oh, yeah. I had my first PB&J at my Lake Sonoma 50-mile ultramarathon. I remember eating in it and I was just like, God, this is awful. 30 years before our first PB&J. That's right. Yeah. Yeah.
00:23:08
Speaker
almost un-American but i like a jelly sandwich it's just the peanut butter with the jelly just doesn't make any sense i hate peanut butter so much anyway i'm sorry so jack your podcast i'm gonna stop no i have one of those that no one understands i hate uh chocolate and peanut butter so a reese's cup hates who oh oh my god yes you're the only person i know like that no i mean i've never had a reese's but it sounds awful you gotta be kidding What's wrong with y'all? You gotta be kidding me. It's disgusting. now It's amazing. we used to take Hershey bars, put peanut butter between them and make a Hershey bar peanut butter sandwich.
00:23:50
Speaker
Oh, wow. Wow. Excuse me while I go throw up. Oh my gosh. No. Great. Is there another question? There's two more. What? have two more names? No, only have one more name. I have Lexi. Oh, I have a bonus question. thats Oh, I see. It's turn. Everybody gets to answer. all right. You get number 10, Lexi. Okay. Would you rather have a full cheer section cheering on Main Street, but you stumble and fall in front of them, or have no one on Main Street at all cheering?
00:24:19
Speaker
I'm going to lean towards have no one on Main Street. Okay. I'd love to hear why because Main Street cheering is a big deal. But the castle is the big deal. So I think it would be really cool to run up Main Street with no sound but the feet.
00:24:37
Speaker
Oh, that would be cool. Like I just think that would just be surreal. And then the music of Main Street, like you could actually hear. Now, Main Street cheering is absolutely amazing. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
00:24:48
Speaker
But I don't want to trip and fall at that point of the race. Not in this age of social media. yeah It's not even the in front of people. It's just like that point of the race, I have so much more race to go. Right. That that just doesn't sound pleasant.
00:25:06
Speaker
I would rather trip and fall. I've already done it at mile 13, and I had 0.1 left. i mean... I do remember you telling that story. Someone said a podcaster went down and you were that podcaster. Yeah, I have stars on my like ah my hand from my gimbal of my camera that was holding. and My left knee took the scar that was there before when I tripped down some stairs when I was a kid. So it got replaced by my Disneyland scar now.
00:25:33
Speaker
And i was that was devastating. I liked that old scar. But you protected the camera, right? Yeah, the camera was fine. Protect the camera. All right. Bob, I'm guessing you don't want to go down at any time, I'm guessing. It's a long way.
00:25:47
Speaker
but But golly, I love the Main Street crowds. I absolutely love the Main Street crowds. Me And I will typically, on my trip down Main Street, go to the crowd and i have this little speech.
00:26:02
Speaker
Dear strangers, I will never see you again, but I love you all. Thanks for making the race for me. yeah And then I run away. yeah Yeah. Oh, that's sweet. so I love it. I'll take the crowd. Yeah. I'll take the fall. I'll take the fall to get the crowd. Yeah. Okay.
00:26:17
Speaker
Perfect. I ain't falling. I'm going to break something. yeah Might not get back up. Yep. I have a question for everybody, including AJ and Erica. When you run by a sign that says for power up and you have to tap it, does everybody go and hit the sign? And do you feel powered up?
00:26:34
Speaker
Uh-huh. Especially if it's a kid. Oh my gosh. If it's a kid, yeah I'm like, yeah and I thank them and I'm just like, you rock. You know? Yeah. I do it. Yeah, for sure. hundred percent. I do fear that like one of those times i'm going to hit that poster and then hit the person behind the poster. You know, I am worried that that's going to happen. Little kid flat on the ground i know like running away. I know. Like, well, sorry. You know, awesome. Okay, cool. I have a bonus question and it's not really a bonus question. There's no, no, no names to draw because we ask everybody on our podcast this question. Um, the question is, would you rather, and you can answer in any order, but everyone has to answer, please. Um,

Race Day Reflections

00:27:07
Speaker
Would you rather run down, it's a half marathon, Disney half marathon. Would you rather run down Main Street in that half or get a finisher medal for a half? You can only have one.
00:27:19
Speaker
Sorry, Lexi. I see that face. You can only have one of those things. Which one do you choose? Erica and i are very clear on our answers, by the way. It's divisive. i am take the medal. Erica is Main Street. She has a terrible argument. i am very valid and have a really good logical reason for it. And everybody sides with Erica so far, which has hurt my feelings. But have you had one person.
00:27:40
Speaker
i did I did. Someone did agree with me. Okay. Oh, do I get number two? Yes, go ahead. No, um I was agreeing with you, AJ. Medal all the way. Because like, why would you run if you don't get a medal? Thank you very much. they used to do races. Two of the races ran down Main Street and two of the race weekends did not run down Main Street.
00:28:02
Speaker
It's still that way. It's still that way. yeah Yeah, You can run, you know, a springtime surprise or wine and dine. You get no no Main Street. yeah Yeah. Okay, but you're a metal person. Thank you. I'm kind of surprised that you just said that, Lexi, after you got all emotional about the castle. No, she said she didn't want any people on Main Street either. So I totally knew she was going do that So you'd rather have the metal than the castle.
00:28:23
Speaker
But I mean, I have my metal rack and like have to add to it. Right. Yes. Okay. Can I have like a caveat? What if it was your first time running down Main Street? Would you rather lose the first time moment just to have a metal?
00:28:39
Speaker
But then you went first time medal. yeah yeah okay Every time you look at that thing, remember that time I didn't think I could do a half and I did. okay i love it, Lexi. Thank you very much. Welcome to Atlanta where the players play. All right. Who else?
00:28:56
Speaker
Okay, so I once did a race where I didn't realize I was not getting a medal until after I crossed the finish line. That tracks for you. Yeah, that was... I got a bottle of wine instead. it was the Lake Sonoma race.
00:29:09
Speaker
But it was the experience that I remember most more than the medal. And I would go and run a race again if the if it was such beautiful scenery like it is like running through the castle. There's nothing like it. I would trade that for a medal any day.
00:29:25
Speaker
Yeah, that seems to be, unfortunately, what everyone thinks, except for Lexi and I, who are correct. And it

Creating the Ultimate Top 10 List

00:29:31
Speaker
was Michelle from Rope Drop. She also said that. Yes, Michelle said, yeah. Okay. All right, Greg. All right.
00:29:36
Speaker
AJ, I'm sorry. I'm joining Team Erica on this one. but we were friends. We are friends, and we will remain remain friends. But the reason why you're wrong here is that...
00:29:50
Speaker
what is What is so unique about Run Disney is that, let's just take like the Walt Disney World Marathon, for example, and you compare that against a world major or a marathon in any major metropolitan city.
00:30:05
Speaker
You get cheering all the time. Run Disney is is ah is a special animal where we only get those pockets of crowd support every once in the blue moon. And when you get it, it's freaking amazing. And that euphoria, I mean, I can still picture my first time down Main Street USA running and just holding back the tears and hearing Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins and just the roar of the crowd, that usurps any piece of metal that's now given to us in a plastic bag, even if it does hang on on my shelf. So i'll take I'll take Main Street all day long.
00:30:46
Speaker
You make a good argument. Yep. You make a good argument. That was a good one. I don't, I don't get emotional about it anything. Erica cries about everything. i don't get emotional about anything. And I have to be honest. I turned that corner the first time going down main street after seeing Mickey up on the thing. And I pulled around that corner and I've been in that park a hundred times in my life. And I'd started tearing up. I couldn't even believe it. I'm like, why in the world do I feel this way? So I get it. Yeah. Yeah.
00:31:11
Speaker
um I'm going up no medal because a lot of the races up here where that i that I do, they don't give medals out. it's Unless you're like you know in the top placing of your age group or it's you know it's lot of them just for fundraising, so for charities. So they they they put the money back to the charity instead of spending it a medal. so and don Would I like the medal? Yes. But do I need it? No.
00:31:35
Speaker
Gotcha. Okay. All right. I think everybody knows this answer from me. I just looked though. They're nice. Yeah. metal yeah They're okay. I have 92 of them.
00:31:47
Speaker
Wow. I have 92 run Disney medals. I have made 16 trips down main street and on trip number 17, I will choke back tears and I love that.
00:32:00
Speaker
it's just special. So yep. Main street. Yes. I'll sacrifice the medal if I have to. All right. So rise and run. That was a four to one. yeah Right. Is that what I just heard? yeah But Lexi, at least you were correct. You know what I mean? I still stand by my answer. but So do I. Absolutely. So do I. Okay. All right. That's our would you rather. Thank you all for playing that. That's good to get to know y'all a little bit better, how you'd make some of those hard decisions. Um, so we were creating a top 10 list today.
00:32:28
Speaker
So I asked you guys for, your top five things you have to do, must do suggest that people do the things you don't want to miss things that will make your race weekend better.
00:32:39
Speaker
You know, especially for first timers, right? yeah You guys each submitted your top five in order, right? Priority order. And I took that, I made this aggregate list. I added our numbers together, right? So for example, Bob, your number one answer was worth five points. Your number five answer was worth one point. Right. So I compared that to Lexi's. I compared it to John. Like I put the whole thing together. And for a non-math guy like me, it took a minute, but I got it. And I created this top 10 list. And I figured no one, you haven't seen this, right? now No, no.
00:33:09
Speaker
No one knows the list yet, but I'm going to reveal it to y'all. And then you have to, you have to help me understand why you, why you said that. Right. Cause you know, somebody may not know. Oh, okay. So you said, you know why that would be a big deal. So I think y'all will enjoy this list. We'll go bottom up. Right. So the number 10, nine, eight, whatever. So the points will get higher as we go. And I can even tell you, I've got a little chart here. I can tell you where you ranked stuff. Does that make sense? yeah if it If it matters. Okay.
00:33:34
Speaker
You guys ready to rock this thing? Absolutely. So. Ladies and gentlemen listening, this is your top 10 things you need to do or must do at Disney World for a race weekend based off what the Rise and Run Gang and the One More Run Gang. Our answers are in here too. Awesome. Based off what we think. So number 10 ended up being a tie ah point-wise. So we have a 10A and a 10B.
00:33:56
Speaker
Okay. Okay. I have no reason for which one's A and which one's B. They're the same point value. So with four points, both of them, we'll go number 10B is ride Expedition Everest during the marathon. Only one person said this, but it was your number two answer, which gave it the four points.
00:34:15
Speaker
Jack. Okay. So it's the one thing I've always wanted to do, but I haven't done yet. So you're recommending something you haven't done. Got it. Yeah, but I see other people look really excited about it.
00:34:26
Speaker
And that's been a goal for a lot of people. And I'm like, you know, this is the year. This is the year that I'm going to try it. Because sometimes it's like, is it open? Because half the time when I've done the marathon, it's not open by the time I get to the amicast.
00:34:38
Speaker
Yeah. no good But then the other time that I went by it, it was like, I think they opened early for breakfast or something in that area. And there is already like a 15, 20 minute line. And i was like, I don't want to go do that when I still have the marathon to run. But yeah, I still think it's amazing. But 2026 is your year. You're doing it this year?
00:34:56
Speaker
I'm going to try to. Yeah. Awesome. Has anybody done it? I had an opportunity once, but I didn't take it. And I kind of regret it. I wish I had.
00:35:07
Speaker
Really? Yeah, of late I've been pushing a wheelchair, so that doesn't that doesn't work. But yeah yeah, a couple years ago I had a chance. I was here at just the right time, but I was still too nervous about finishing. Sure.
00:35:20
Speaker
sure I'm just too nervous about like a locking up, you know, or, or tripping on something, trying to get in and out. Like that's what I'm worried about. Coaster gets stuck on the mountain and then you're stuck on the mountain. Yeah, for sure. Right. Yeah. Yeah. done If you get to evacuate, it's a whole new experience. I mean, how many times do you get evacuated from a Disney ride? That's cool.
00:35:41
Speaker
True. All right. So Jackie, you were the only one with that answer, but it was pretty high on your list. I hope you get to experience it this week. 10 With a matching score of four, this was Greg's number two. Meet Jeff Galloway at the expo or the finish line.
00:35:56
Speaker
Explain that one for us. Obviously, there are tons of run coaches out there. And I mean, heck, all of us on this call, we all have different coaches. I mean, some of us have the same, but some of us have different ones. Right.
00:36:09
Speaker
But that man, regardless if he is your coach or not, or you know you subscribe to his method of running, is just so instrumental in opening the door of running to people like myself over 10 years ago who never thought they would be a runner themselves. And any interaction that I've had with Jeff, whether in person at the expo, on our podcast, or even at a finish line is just, they're they' are incredible opportunities that that I cherish each and every single time. I mean, the one I'll i'll never forget is when I finished my first marathon and I remember
00:36:49
Speaker
I was just a couple hundred feet from the finish line and I saw him out of the corner of my and I remember I cut people off like crazy and I was a blubbery mess to him. And I, I thanked him for, you know, allowing me the opportunity to be able to do this sport. And I said, thank you for hiring Chris twigs to, you know, be my coach and, and get me to this point. And then, but in a typical Jeff way, he just responded to me and said,
00:37:15
Speaker
but you did the hard work. You did this. And those are just words that I'll never forget. And he's just such an inspirational individual that again, you know regardless if you you're a run, walk runner or not, he has something to teach you and to, and for him to be the training consultant for run Disney and not tap into that in, in some um form or fashion. I think you're doing yourself a disservice by not doing that.
00:37:40
Speaker
Awesome. Couldn't agree more. I'm a little embarrassed. I didn't think to put that down, Craig. Oh, I figured that was your number one. Well, I mean, every every podcast that we do before a race, we tell our friends, stop by Jeff's booth, say hello to Jeff, say hello to Chris. and it's we We've done it because you recommended it. yeah know we literally weve That was the only real reason we stopped by because you all recommended it.
00:38:00
Speaker
Yeah. Awesome. Good. All right. Thank you, Greg, for that. Number nine. This is only one person yeah yeah this is one person's answer, but it was her number one answer. Jack, run in costume, five points. You earned us five points for this one. Run in costume was your answer. Give us some ah give us some reason why we want to run in costume. Because like my first race, I basically just wore a little sparkle skirt and tiara and I thought i was doing overdoing it for the costumes. And I get there like, you know, right before the race and I see all these amazing costumes. And so i was like, I'm going to do that next time. And ever since I've been riding a costume and just feels so magical and fun and exciting. It's a great talking point if you never met somebody like, oh I love your costume. You get some great conversations. But on the other spectrum of that, if you think about it, like, you know how, like, if you do a half marathon marathon and you don't have the name on the bib, people don't know to yell out your name because they don't know your name.
00:38:57
Speaker
So if you don't, if they can't see your name, sometimes if you're wearing a character costume, like, oh you're goofy, go goofy. You get that extra burst of energy. Like they may not know you, but they know your costume. And so they want to cheer you on specifically, which pushes you harder to be like, yeah, I am going to do this. And it's just kind of like acts as like, you know, if you didn't have a name on the bib and it's just super exciting. And i don't know. I just love wearing costumes. I think they're a lot of fun and they're fun to get pictures in.
00:39:26
Speaker
hmm. Love it. That's perfect. All right. No explanations from y'all. Okay. Cause I don't want to take all night. Favorite costume you've worn. Okay. you All you get to say is what it was. Okay. I'll start with Erica and then to just say your, say your favorite costume you've worn. What's your favorite?
00:39:41
Speaker
Powerline max. Ooh. Yeah. Powerline max. Okay. Anybody else? Powerline max. Yeah. Awesome. Oh, this is tough. Animal. Which is, I think, the only one John's worn.
00:39:52
Speaker
No. i won Oh, okay. All right. Dr. Seater. Oh, cool. That's fun. Oh, this is a tough answer. You got some good ones, Bob. Mm-hmm.
00:40:04
Speaker
Oh, golly. I'll go with Groot. I going to say, are we going to talk about the 10-foot tree in the room or not? Yeah. yeah it Was Groot or Tinker, Bob? Yeah. But I'll go with Groot. I really love my Hades costume.
00:40:18
Speaker
Awesome. That's a good one. Mine probably was a Star Wars Stormtrooper. I love that one. Did you get to run Star Wars? No. So sorry, I said no. You said no explanation. I said no explanation, but it's my podcast. And Jack asked. And so I'm answering the question. We were signed up for Star Wars in April of 2020. Yeah. And it got, you know, COVID. We know. And so when we did our first springtime surprise, which was obviously like the Star Wars time, whatever, I said, I don't care what the theme is, we're going Star Wars because we had

Race Weekend Traditions

00:40:51
Speaker
everything. Good for you.
00:40:53
Speaker
All right. Number eight answer. This was me and the only other person that answered the metal and main street question correctly. Lexi, thank you very much. You and me scored on this one. It was your number three answer. My number four answer with a total of five points.
00:41:09
Speaker
That is stop and take photos with characters. Explain why do we want to do that? Because it's the only place that you get to. Like whenever you run races around the world, i mean, other than Disneyland, you can't take a picture with Mickey Mouse or Chippendale or, you know, I mean, as much as you can without messing with your pace, I totally think, I mean, at least do one.
00:41:38
Speaker
We've got a friend of ours who's running his first half marathon this time. And he's not huge into Disney, whatever, but enough. And I told him the other day, I said, you better stop for somebody. I don't care who it is. yeah You better stop for somebody. Because if you walk off that course with no Disney pictures, I'm going to be on unhappy with you. All right. Number seven. Does anybody have any comments on taking, picture everybody agree at least stop for, for, for, okay. Everyone agree. It's perfect. Good answer. Good answer. Good answer. Number seven. This was an Erica and Greg have a pineapple cider. Oh yeah. by
00:42:11
Speaker
All right. er specific Oh yeah. They both said it in like an almost the same phrasing. So, uh, Erica, why don't you explain first and then we'll let Greg. ah It's just so good. And it's like part of our tradition. Like we can't not do a run Disney weekend. Are you an expo cider or a post race cider or both? I mean, we definitely have to get the expo one. We have to start the weekend off, right?
00:42:33
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Perfect. Greg, what's your logic here? To me, it is the, I mean, maybe outside of a margarita, it is the unofficial drink of Run Disney, right in my opinion. And, you again, if you want to be able to have that that true experience, then absolutely. I think that the the notes of pineapple pair extremely, extremely well with plastic cheese. you know So, you know, you really want to be able to get that flavor but profile going. Yeah, that yeah, yeah, yeah. But no, I do agree with you guys. I'm more of a expo cider guy as opposed to post race because you being and the back of the packer, you know on unless I have you know a fast friend who's like willing to wait in you know the the the line, you know usually the line's really long by the time I get there. And at that point, okay, I got my box. I got my banana. I got my Powerade.
00:43:26
Speaker
I'm ready to get back on the bus and you know shower off and stuff like that. But at the same time, you know If you just have a killer race and you know you just enjoyed your entire experience, nothing better than topping that off with ah with a cider. Actually, maybe what I need to do is I need ah Bob's wife, Becky. She's great at providing Bob two ciders. I remember that I think one of the first times I entered i came to cheer, um Becky was double fisting ciders for Bob as he came across the finish line. So yeah if she can do that for me one day, I'd really appreciate that. She'd be happy to.
00:44:01
Speaker
And she brought beignets too that one year. Oh, yes. so Nice. Yeah. You know, I have two cases of that cider in my garage. We discovered that it was from Cape Canaveral or whatever. Yes, it is. That's right. So we went on a cruise and we went and picked up two cases of it at the at the brewery whatever before we got on the cruise and took it with us. The Karim Brewery. That's right. I was there last week, Space Coast Marathon. Oh, yeah, I heard you talk about it. Yeah.

Training and Preparation

00:44:25
Speaker
Awesome. how But a side tangent, how was the Space Coast Marathon? Oh, it's terrific. and That is ah an excellent race if you're in the area. It's a wonderful destination race. Only trouble is it's tough to travel sometimes. It's always the Sunday after Thanksgiving, but but it's a ah wonderful event.
00:44:40
Speaker
A hundred percent. I've been there six years in a row. Awesome. Very cool. Do you have some rides and run representation out there? Oh, quite a bit. Yeah. Awesome. Very cool. all right, let's move on on our list so we don't take all night here. Bob, this is you you and me. we This was your number one, my number five, so a total of six points here. You said, do your training. I said, stick to your training, yeah right? So I'll let you explain that one. Well, it it will make for an enjoyable weekend.
00:45:08
Speaker
if you ah If you are able to do the training that you need to do. And the first Disney event I ran was one down half marathon. I was, real quick math, 64 years old. And I hadn't done a half marathon in 30 something years. So I got to Jeff Galloway training plan, downloaded it.
00:45:27
Speaker
I think I missed maybe two weekday training. I was nervous toeing the line about eight to 10 miles into it. I'm feeling great. I'm feeling great. I'm going, this is wonderful. I'm excited. That's what it will enable you to do. If you do your training, you get out there on the course, you're really going to enjoy the weekend.
00:45:46
Speaker
Totally. We had um Doug and Michelle from Rope Drop on deck on the podcast. And one of the things Doug said is he said, if you haven't done your training, like it's a totally different race with the balloon ladies chasing you if you haven't done your training than if you've finished your training and you know that you can maintain. It's just a totally different experience, right? I said, stick to your training because I've been tempted and I'm sure others have too whatever, where you get there and the adrenaline kicks in and you think you can do a lot more than you really can. And then all of a sudden you overdo it, you go out too hard, like any of those things, you know, and sometimes you can pay the price. So if you, I say, if you train to run, walk or whatever, do your run, walk intervals that you trained with, yeah you know, not, oh, well, you know what, now that I'm here, I'm sure I can run, you know, for two minutes instead of, know, one, I'm sure I can do that just fine. Right, no, you're right.
00:46:31
Speaker
All right. Cool. Let's see. This one is a Greg and John. John, it was your number two answer. Greg, it was your number three answer. So a total of seven points. Celebrate with a post-race meal.
00:46:44
Speaker
Explain. I'll take either one of you and I would like to know your favorite place to celebrate. Oh, so that's a tough one. depends It depends on the race. But ah the place we've been celebrating a lot is ah is a...
00:46:55
Speaker
the boathouse after races. I mean, that's where we like to go. It's a fun little place. Yeah. Good place. You know, uh, but if it's wine and dine weekend, you have to do it in Germany.
00:47:07
Speaker
It's just because you're, you're there in the park, but I just like celebrate, get, get, sit back, relax, and just celebrate the victory you just did for this weekend. All right, Greg, you got a favorite place or any reason logic behind this one?
00:47:20
Speaker
I mean, the the logic itself is just, you know, i mean, yes, it is a privilege and it's a celebration just to be in Walt Disney World or

Rise and Run Meetups

00:47:28
Speaker
Disneyland. But, you know, especially if it's your first time or your first time at a distance, you know find that little celebration. you know, I think in the way that I wrote it, you meal or like...
00:47:40
Speaker
I know there's some people that go out there and you know get a massage at one of the resort spas. or i mean There's even some people that go out and book a VIP tour and stuff like that. Find those little celebration things. but i mean I think for most of the time and most of run Disney runners' budgets, it usually comes down to food and a meal. ah so In terms of favorite spots for me,
00:48:05
Speaker
I'm right there with John. If it's specifically wine and dine and you want to match it up with the the after party, I'm beer garden all day. Give me give me the Schoenhofer grapefruit Hefeweizen all day, all day. Post-marathon, it's hit or miss. and I'm waning on it a little bit, but Ohana. I mean, at least Ohana appetizers, at least those are solid no matter what time you go.
00:48:31
Speaker
But yeah, usually those are my two celebration meals. That's awesome. We've ended up at Liberty tree tavern and had some Thanksgiving. very yeah good That's, that's been our, that's been our go-to any other recommendations real fast on post-race meals. Anybody have a, have a spot they love.
00:48:47
Speaker
boma Yes. boma yeah yeah Awesome. All right, let's move on. Number four. We're almost to the top three. Number four, this was a Bob. This was your number three answer. Lexi rocking it with number one answer.
00:49:00
Speaker
attend the Rise and Run meetup. We have not been, so you're go have but we're going to be there this year. I would say it was on your episode talking about your time schedule, so you better be there. we know to tell ah tell Tell us why. right like We've heard your podcast, but like for someone who is either new to your podcast or they've just never really thought of making it to the meetup or they've never been to Disney World, why do we want to be there?
00:49:23
Speaker
I mean, it's kind of what I talked about earlier in the episode of especially if you're traveling by yourself to a race weekend, just coming somewhere that are a bunch of people that are like minded I mean, anybody will talk to you and they you you can find a run buddy. You can find somebody to meet in the corrals. Like, I just feel like it's a really good start to the longer races and just, you know, good to be around people who like the same things that you do. Absolutely.
00:49:57
Speaker
We'll get a good group. We'll get a hundred plus to the meetup. I do my best. i kind of look on the perimeter because we have a, we have a large group of people who know one another already. Yes. Yes. But there's always somebody who's coming for the first time. So I look on the perimeter for those folks and introduce myself and introduce them to somebody in the group.
00:50:20
Speaker
Once I've done that, they're in. Yeah. And they're happy and they're meeting other people. it's We're so blessed. It's such a wonderful community.

Capturing Race Memories

00:50:30
Speaker
And i just love to see it grow. And I love to see people enjoying being with and talking with one another.
00:50:38
Speaker
Yeah, it's just fun. Awesome. I love seeing your guys' group picture grow every year. That's yeah pretty incredible. Okay, you guys ready for the top three? Let's do it. I'm excited. We got a lot so those have been like one or two people answers.
00:50:52
Speaker
and Like a lot of people are contributing to these, okay? Yeah, that's good. So this is the number three answer. ah It was my number two, Erica. Erica had two answers that were really similar. So they it was her four and five. So I just added him and get it together. Okay.
00:51:06
Speaker
Uh, and then John, this is your number four. Lexi, it's your number four. so a total of 11 points. Take lots of pictures and metal pictures in the park. I kind of combined the two, right? So take lots of pictures and metal pictures in the park. Who wants to explain their logic?
00:51:22
Speaker
I'll go. go I mean, this is also kind of what I talked about with the characters going into the theme parks and having the picture with the icon and your, your metal, like, that's just what you, that's just what you do. That's just a way to commemorate it. And you don't get to do stuff like that as, you know, like, it's just, that's just what you do. It's just what magic just what you do.
00:51:48
Speaker
Erica, why did you put this on your you had two comments that were about taking photos. Why did you say that? I mean, I agree with Lexi. I just think, you know, like you don't really have the opportunity to go into the park with your medal that you've just earned. Like those photos, like my Main Street memory, will last forever in my mind. So, um yeah, I just think like you're For me and for all of us, really, we're at our favorite place having done like a super hard thing that we're so proud of. And so I think just being able to combine them is ah is awesome.
00:52:19
Speaker
Yeah. And I'll also add and say splurge on the share your moment photo shoot. Oh, yeah. Especially after like a first marathon because those photos that I mean the photographers, the PhotoPass people are just really special and gifted in, in commemorating that. Um, and it's just a really good keepsake to have.
00:52:44
Speaker
Lexi, that's a really good point because, you know, especially marathon weekend, it's been very, very impressive to see not just run Disney, but Disney world operations prepare for metal Monday.
00:52:58
Speaker
Because let me tell you at this past marathon weekend, I was just meeting up with friends, you know, was going to get a couple of photos on the hub grass. I was in line for so long. I saw that darn castle show three times. Wow. I could do all the choreography by the time I got my photos. We'd like to see it. So to be able to get like the Fast Pass version of PhotoPass in terms of these special moments, Lexi, that that's a fantastic call.
00:53:26
Speaker
But and you don't have to get it done in front of the castle all the time. There's the side PhotoPass shoot, guys. There's the the ones behind the castle. There's ones all over the park in Epcot.
00:53:38
Speaker
And what they did Wine and Dine Weekend, ah for the challenge medals. They had them all lined up or ready to go so you could hold them up. yeah yeah So you don't got to break your medals out and spend all that time trying to nice get it all set up.
00:53:50
Speaker
Perfect. We did the capture your moment. Lexi, we paid for that one time. And you feel like a VIP because they're like walking you through the park and everyone's like kind of looking at you like, why do they have a photographer? Also because we did it the year that we did our almost perfect. So we had like what felt like a hundred medals. yeah And yeah instead of putting them back every time, they're like, just hold on to them. So we're like, we're walking through the park with like medals like hanging off of our arms. It's kind of ridiculous. Yeah.

Savoring the Race Experience

00:54:16
Speaker
I had a perfect season and I did it. I i teamed up with two friends. they They allowed, well, actually Becky got me in with them, but I had all of those medals for a perfect season in a box and I tripped and dropped them on me. No. Oh no. It's all worked out. No harm done, but oh my goodness. We're picking up medals for a couple of minutes. Yeah. My heart would have stopped. Like just legitimately stopped. That's awful. Not my prized possessions. I know. I gave up Main Street for this, you know? They were all right.
00:54:46
Speaker
Okay. He'll trade a bullet for Main Street. I will. Yeah. That's funny. All right. Let's wrap this thing up almost. This is number two. AJ's number two answer. Erica's number two answer. Bob's number two answer. John's number one answer.
00:55:03
Speaker
Slow down and enjoy the experience. A hundred percent. So, John, it was your number one. Let's hear it. Let's hear it. So especially if it's your first time, yes just just soak in everything. you know Remember just going to the expo, towing the line for the first time, finishing that race.
00:55:23
Speaker
It's something that you'll remember forever. I mean, I still remember that. Every time i hit mile 25 in the marathon, I'm like, it brings me back to that first one. Awesome. Yeah. Yeah, i i in trying to answer these, I tried to put myself in the mind of someone who's doing it for the first time.
00:55:40
Speaker
And I can remember my first time. And I didn't go out blazing fast. I've come to think of it, I've never gone out blazing fast, but that's a different story. Anyway. Yeah.
00:55:52
Speaker
But I was pushing until I got maybe to about eight miles. And then I realized, number one, I've got this made. Yeah. And number two, I need to slow down. So then I did start slowing down and taking photos and just enjoying it. So yeah, relax, take it in. I think John made a lot of great points.
00:56:11
Speaker
Enjoy yourself. that's what That's what you're paying for at Disney. Yes. Erica was after my first half marathon, it was princess half marathon and I hadn't been running very long. And I PR, you know, PR that race is my first half marathon, but I got a really good time. Right. And Erica was telling me about things on the course. And I'm like, when was that? Yeah, right, right. You don't want that And she's telling characters and I'm like, what?
00:56:35
Speaker
What are you talking about? I don't remember that. that And that's when i i mean I immediately, they say if you're going for a PR, you're doing it wrong or whatever. i' PR and fun, right? And now I have that mindset because I'm like, wait a minute, I can go run the Atlanta half marathon as fast as I want. Who cares? yeah you know Exactly right.
00:56:51
Speaker
Except the Atlanta half marathon is all uphill, so never mind. Yeah, inferior. Yeah, for that one. I praise you for doing it. have hilly courses. wo Well, everyone tried to warn me. I still did it. And then I was like, okay, everyone was right. Okay.
00:57:07
Speaker
Are you guys ready for the number one answer? I'm excited you ready to hear it. Okay, this was 19 points. Because they are you know they were so similar in nature. I kind of combined a few. But this was my number three, Erica's number three, Bob's number five, Greg's number one, John's number three, Lexi's number two.
00:57:24
Speaker
Make new friends, encourage others, cheer for our race. So everyone needs to explain their answer on this one because we all sign up for run Disney for the metal and to run down Main Street. And I think something else happens when we're there. Yes, you're right.
00:57:39
Speaker
What we've learned is that it all comes back to the community. Absolutely. I think cheering for a race is is is just as fun as running them.
00:57:51
Speaker
So even before the podcast existed, I was cheering for the marathon. And I still remember the first marathon that I cheered for when I didn't know anybody.
00:58:05
Speaker
And I remember standing in the back of Animal Kingdom just sobbing, cheering for them and just like so impressed and inspired. And um I'm getting teary eyed right now.

The Welcoming Run Disney Community

00:58:19
Speaker
um Just like, you know, watching someone achieve something and Even if they don't finish, even if they get swept at mile 20, you know, watching them put their all out.
00:58:35
Speaker
And um I mean, that's why I keep cheering. That's what it's one of the reasons why i haven't signed up for the marathon again. is because I love being there for mile 20 and mile 26 and, you know, all of those towards the end. And, um, that's why my spot is Coronado so that I can just cheer on the people who are giving it their all.
00:59:01
Speaker
and And the training is a lot easier too for the cheering. Training is much easier for the cheering. Although I am on three years running of losing my voice. So, you know, got to work on that.
00:59:15
Speaker
I look at my run Disney experience. Again, none of our lives would be the same without run Disney. But even even race to race, the idea of being able to participate with someone else, it just takes on so many different facets from like the idea of a 5K, the fact that I got to be holding my daughter's hand crossing the finish line of her first 5k ever.
00:59:40
Speaker
And going to be able to share that moment with her in Disney is something I will never forget. Oh yeah. And then there'll be other times where just this past marathon weekend, you know, there was one person in our group that this was their first marathon ever.
00:59:54
Speaker
And we had all said to her, you're crossing that finish line first so we can all just hang back and watch you enjoy that moment. Or on the flip side, this this happened ah to me during Wine and Dine in 2024.
01:00:11
Speaker
I was struggling at one point, but then maybe halfway through, there were two people who were having a really tough go of it. And it was just one of those like, hi, I'm Greg. Nice to meet you. You're now part of our group. and we got And we got those two women across the finish lines of their first ever half marathons. And to be able to just see the joy and jubilation there in their faces is, again, what what brings us back to this. So the fact that the idea of community and friendship and support can take on so many different facets within the span of one race weekend is awesome and that's why it was my number one love it
01:00:53
Speaker
ah Looking through our Facebook group every weekend, we see everyone's race reports, everyone's stuff. But then you go, you realize that, oh, you know these people are all at the same race that never knew each other before this community. So they're all going out and joining themselves in a race somewhere, not in their hometown, just to go out there and do this as ah as a group like Space Coast, ah Flying Pig, all those other races. Bird in hand, Pennsylvania. Bird in hand, Pennsylvania. San Antonio, they're having the inaugural. yeah
01:01:25
Speaker
right yeah there's yeah group rides around your hair Yeah. Yeah. Honolulu in a couple of weeks. Yeah. yeah I want friends who are listening here to understand this is not a closed group. We are always, this is an open group welcoming and, and one more run is the same way. One more run is part of this and we are part of them and it's all part of this large community and we love one another and we love doing this and we'd love to meet you too.
01:01:50
Speaker
Yeah, totally. We love what you guys have built, the community. I know what you would say, it was that it was everybody involved and whatever, but we loved You guys put in the hard work, set the foundation, gave people a place to come to, to to connect, and we get to be a part of that, and we love that. Erica, this was on your list. It was like number two or something

Encouragement and Perspective

01:02:07
Speaker
for you. Why why did you say that? vi ah The encourage and and support each other and make new friends. Everything that everyone's already said. Yeah, me too. And Lexi, I just have to say, and going do this without crying. I'm going to. But like you so sharing your um youre encouraging people at Marathon.
01:02:27
Speaker
Nope. Going to cry. That is encouraging for me right now because yeah I'm not going to be able to run marathon this year. I won't be able to finish. But my nature is I love to encourage people. And so thank you for already making me excited for like a new perspective on Marathon. So... Come cheer with me. know Yes. My plan right now is to start walking just for a couple of miles and get a picture, and which is important to all of us. And then I want to i want to try to you know come so I can cheer people on. But yeah, I don't know. I just...
01:02:58
Speaker
ah Because we all remember like from our first moments crossing that finish line. um I think it's something, you know, you you can sort of understand if you're not a runner, but like you you don't really grasp it until you've done it yourself. And then you're like, man, I remember that joy like it was yesterday. And just be able to like experience that with somebody else, like cross the finish line somebody else if it's their first time or or cheer them on if you're not even running. Like that's just so so special. And so that's why it's important to me.
01:03:25
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Awesome. That's our top 10. You guys making new friends was fun hit number one. That was fun. Yeah. and that's That's where it belongs. That's great. Thank you guys for playing that little game. Thanks for being on our podcast. Anything you guys want to talk about? I want to talk about, we mentioned earlier, I want to talk about your meetup, right? Like I know

01:03:43

that's happening here in just a couple of weeks. Can you tell us when and where and all that is in case someone was convinced earlier, but they don't know the details. Can you tell us about that real fast? Like the the short version?
01:03:54
Speaker
I would be happy to 3 p.m. on Saturday and we meet at the food truck area in Disney Springs. If you're not sure where that is, find the big hot air balloon and then turn left.
01:04:06
Speaker
Look at the big hot air balloon in front of you. Turn left. You'll see Starbucks. Keep going. The food truck area is back there. We'd love to see you. You really would. It's a lot of fun. I promise you'll meet new friends and maybe have a cookie or two.
01:04:20
