We, Erica, have not had an episode. like We've been so blessed yes recently to have some amazing guests and we valued every single minute of it. But we also haven't had the chance for you and I just to like sit down and talk. Right, yeah. at all recently. you We've had race recaps and all that, and we've had some just incredible guests. yeah So today is like a um maybe less helpful for you guys episode yeah and more of like a, we're just going to

Listener Interaction and Episode Format Change

00:01:00
Speaker
chit chat. And then what we're going to do is, to be some kind of helpful, answer your questions. That's right. So you guys submitted them. I have them on my iPad. they' I've got like a randomizer app. You just hit this button and it just brings up one of the many questions. hello You guys submitted them on
00:01:15
Speaker
Instagram. There's some emails in there. yeah where However you send them in, they're in the iPad now. Perfect. And assuming we don't take 30 minutes to answer each one, we should be able to get to most of them is what I'm whatm hoping. So yeah I say all that to say, strap in, going to be a little bit different. Hopefully you enjoy. I guess if you've ever wondered like what we're really like like the like, the thoughts that aren't like very calculated,
00:01:40
Speaker
You know what I mean? and Of ours. yeah That's probably what's coming out of our mouth today. That's right. um This is not about us. We say that often like this whole podcast. Everything is not, it's not meant, we are not trying to be known. We're trying to be helpful. yeah Today's just a little bit of a departure from that. There are some helpful questions, yeah but some of them are kind of goofy too. So this is not our normal format is what

Future Guests and Listener Reviews

00:02:03
Speaker
I'm saying. That's right. If you don't like it, feel free to join us next week for, you know, hold on. Definitely join us next week. You can see that we have no notes for this episode because we're just I'm just blabbering. Erica, you want to tease next week? Don't even tease. Just say it. Go ahead. If you want. Do you think we should?
00:02:20
Speaker
I can tell them who we're going have on. I don't know. What do you think? Should we? Or should we just say, don't miss it? Okay, I'm just going to say, like, we've had some really exciting people on. And when he popped up on our screen, I was like a five-year-old. was like, oh, my gosh. I cannot believe he is on the screen right now. So you can't say it is. Now can't say who it No, but you are not going to want to miss this. If you...
00:02:46
Speaker
have run Disney yeah ever, you know who this guest is. Yeah. It's exciting. And we've valued every single, every single, ah what do you call it? Guests that we've had. They've all been top notch. We have not had a sub 10 interview yet. not at all. And this one meets that exactly. Like it's so good. So we're not going to tell you who it is. Sorry about that. We just decided right here. We're going to to wait until next week. Seven days, folks. Anticipation. Seven days. You'll find out. It's really good though. Yes, so good. Okay, let's ah do the review.
00:03:18
Speaker
Perfect. You mind if I read today's review? Yes, please do. Okay, we'll see. This is your job, so we'll see if I can even even come close to how good you do it. This is from our friend Ileana, I think is how you pronounce it, right? Two L's. Hi, friends. I first heard you both on the Rise and Run podcast. I really liked what you were all saying, so I ventured over to your podcast. I had done two princess halves before and really liked your what does a weekend look like episode.
00:03:45
Speaker
Side note. That's a really popular episode, by the way. Yeah. It was fun one to record. Yeah, for sure. Okay. Back to the review. Listening to others prepare and go through the weekend is fun. This past episode was definitely my favorite. I experienced and felt all of your emotional moments of the marathon. Okay. So she's talking about marathon episode. and I was running with my dad. It was both of our first marathons. And I know those later miles are core memories now as experiencing hard miles together can only create Sponges are the best. Lexi at mile 20 is a must. And Hollywood spectators were a thousand percent the reason why i finished. And Powerline Max was magical. I hope to meet you all in person. Best of luck at Disneyland. Can't wait to hear the recap.
00:04:30
Speaker
Awesome. That's awesome. So this was a little bit back, you know, a few weeks ago or whatever, but thank you so much for the review. If you guys leave us a five-star review, we will read that on air as our thank you to you guys for supporting the show. you Ready

Listener Questions: Nutrition and Personal Stories

00:04:43
Speaker
to dive in, Erica? Yes. We've got, i think, over 30 questions in here, which I don't know if that's a lot or not, but we're going to find out how long we talk on some of these. um Some of them are funny. Some of them are very serious. So hopefully, where's the Kleenex box? We might need it on some of these. This app has this button where I just hit the pick or randomize or whatever this is, but random button. And it just brings up. I'll do a few. i'm gonna hand you the iPad. You do a few. We'll just see how that goes. You ready? sounds dun done done Number one.
00:05:11
Speaker
This one is from Accidentally Athletic Anna. hey You know who this is? Who is this? She finished the Disneyland half marathon in front of us. Yes. She's in our photo. Yes, of course. Or we're in her photo. I don't know. Either one. Anyway, um do you have a favorite on course nutrition gel electrolyte whatever you have a favorite on-course nutrition nutrition?
00:05:35
Speaker
I would say recently they've been doing the Honey Stinger Gummies. Yep. Yeah. Those are like, those are my new favorite on course. Everything else on course is bleh to me. Take that back. When they do the graham cracker with the chocolate thing, the badunkadoo, baduco, whatever. Baduco. Yeah. Baduco. I think that's what they When they do that on the marathon, it's very limited because it's only on the marathon. Right. But they did like toast toast.
00:06:02
Speaker
One year, and that was awful. Yeah, no. Anyway, I opened it on the marathon this year. Yeah. I opened it while I was running, just hoping it was the chocolate one and not something else that is you That good, yeah. And I opened it and I literally, am I think my headphon my um camera on my head was recording at the time. I said, yes, because that's really good. That's probably my favorite.
00:06:21
Speaker
That's hilarious. I like the badunca do, badunca badunca do, badunca do. I like badunca thing. Um, the, the, uh, do you call the sports beans? Don't even touch them. No, no, they're just all over the ground and they can stay there. All right. Frank is dopey.
00:06:36
Speaker
Wants to know, let's get to know more about AJ and Erica. How did you guys meet? All right. so Is this Frank Frank? This is Frank we met at Marathon Weekend, Frank, in the Magic Kingdom. Yes. Yes.
00:06:47
Speaker
Okay. How did we meet? Yeah. So we met our freshman year in college um in a communications class. AJ was doing a speech. Really, I mean, that's not like what I remember you from, but that's when we retell the story, we talk about it. But you were doing a persuasive speech on...
00:07:04
Speaker
you You had to do a persuasive speech. That was the bottom line, persuade the class. Right. And you did one on volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club. That's Which I already like to do volunteer work. And so it wasn't because of that speech. That's why I started to like stumble it. The speech was so good No, the speech has nothing to do with it. Oh, okay. All the speech told me was that you also volunteer. And so i found you later.
00:07:25
Speaker
Like, I don't even think it was that day. But at what point did it convince you that I was good looking? Immediately? Probably. That was a different moment. Ah, okay. Okay. So this is this is actually a funny story. So we, okay, so go back to our original thing, communications class. Yes. So after I found out you volunteered the Boys and Girls Club, I approached you about going because I didn't have a car or freshman year. Oh, yeah. And you did. And so I asked you if I could start volunteering with you. And so we volunteered together. We did this for several months. Yes. And then one day, this is the day, I ran into you in the CAF.
00:07:56
Speaker
We were by the drink station. Uh-huh. And it was like, oh yeah, you go here too. Like I'd forgotten because we weren't in class together anymore. We just like volunteered together. And then I was like, it was like I had never seen you before. And I was like, you are so cute. And that and that's when ah that's when I started like really liking you.
00:08:13
Speaker
Yes. But we met in a communications class our freshman year in college. Freshman year of college. That's right. First semester of college too. Yes. And then I saw you, it was Southern California. You were wearing California shorts.
00:08:25
Speaker
I think I was wearing Abercrombie red board shorts or something. they were good. Let's just leave it right there. Three kids later good and a mortgage. Here we are. All right. Randomized. Here's the next one. Hopefully, Frank, hopefully that answers the question. So we dated all... Well, were friends for two years. We dated, engaged. We got married the week after we graduated from college. Yes, we were babies. And had no free time to ourselves. We immediately got married and living in an apartment and...
00:08:53
Speaker
A couple months later, found out we were at the doctor. Yep. um Anyway, let's move on ah before I get myself in trouble. All right. Katrina asks, this is Run Cat

Hosts' Personal Lives and Disney Experiences

00:09:04
Speaker
Cat Run. Katrina asks, what is the best way to celebrate? Wow, this is on the marriage topic.
00:09:09
Speaker
Oh, cool. What is the best way to celebrate 25 years married? ooh we are We haven't been married 25 years yet. So we got two more years. I know what I want to do to celebrate her. Well, that's I think what she's asking. Best way. Yeah, go ahead. So I would say for me, I would either want ah the two of us to go on a um Alaska Disney cruise. I'm ah totally on board. ah See what I did there? I see I'm on board with that. Yes. Or one of your like 14 day transatlantic yada yada. I don't know. You could do that many sea days.
00:09:40
Speaker
yeah Could I do that many sea days? You know, Sam and I both agree. If the cruise is less than seven days, don't even don't even bother going. I mean, that's not true, but but that's, yeah, seven days is- Both of those are cruises. So for 25 years, you want to go on a cruise? Yeah, that's my favorite thing that we do together.
00:09:55
Speaker
Yeah. Why? For someone who's never been on a cruise? Oh, well. Because i think a lot of people, yeah they they they picture carnival cruise when they, know or you know what I mean, or Royal Caribbean. That's not how we do it. Yeah, no. We only like Disney. yeah um And we have taken our kids on one cruise, but the rest of the times we've gone just by ourselves or with other adult friends. Because Disney has really great adults-only areas, especially depending on what ship you go on. Yep.
00:10:21
Speaker
um And so I love the Disney cruise because it's super relaxing. yeah um If you don't want to see kids, you don't have to necessarily, and yeah unless you're going to the ice cream soft serve thing. Right. Like you don't, you can't even hear them on some parts. Some of them, some of the ships are really, really good about that. So you could have our, go to Broadway show at night, do the late seating dinner whatever. and you don't even know there's any kids around, you know, you just go to the adult only pool. Yeah. That's what we do.
00:10:45
Speaker
And there's so much to do that like if I want to chill but you want to do something, we can both do something like different. Oh, I've left you plenty of times. Yes. and Yeah. Or I've taken a nap and you're like, I'm too restless for this right now. Yeah. yeah So yeah, we love it. All right. I'm going to one more than you can. Ben wants to know, what is your ideal non-run Disney day at Walt Disney World or Disneyland?
00:11:10
Speaker
what is your What is your ideal day at the parks look like? These days, I would say probably a park hopper where we would just hit like like if the few attractions or like, you know, quick serve things that we want from each park. Yeah. And then end for sure like with Fantasmic.
00:11:28
Speaker
m Yeah. Fantasmic. The later showing where all the kids are already gone. Correct. Okay. so you would try and hit all four parks or two parks? but What am I understanding? No, no. Yeah. You said a Park Hopper. Yeah. So all four parks, but maybe only do like our top two or three rides from each park.
00:11:45
Speaker
That's what I would do. Okay. Yeah. um're We're going to do two totally different perfect days. I'm going to the Magic Kingdom. Of course. and I'm staying there. Okay. Yes, of course. I don't need Epcot. I'm young. There are fun rides at Epcot.
00:11:57
Speaker
And i might I might take the Park Hopper and go over and do some Hollywood Studios stuff. That's cool. You're going to go over and ride Frozen Ever After? Nope. Get the bijou, bijou, whatever he called ah Tom called that last week. I'm just calling it gasoline. Yeah. It was so funny. He's like, oh my gosh, no. That was it. That was it. Yeah, my perfect day really would be. I would rope drop the Magic Kingdom, go back and take a nap, come back in the evening in the Magic Kingdom, or maybe even ride all the same things all over again. Yeah. That's probably what do. Well, that's why I'm saying the park over because we always ride like the same three or four rides and that's it. That's true. Yeah.
00:12:30
Speaker
If it was Disneyland, I would go rope drop at Disneyland, ride all the Disneyland-specific things, right? Matterhorn, Pirates is better there. Like, ride all Space, because they have music. Space is way better than ours. yeah Do all the things that are better there. Yeah.
00:12:47
Speaker
Get the churro toffee. Thank you, Jessica. Get some popcorn, ride the train around, and then I'd go over to California Adventure yeah and do Cars Land at night. Oh my gosh. So much fun. Cars land at night. And I'd get the mac and cheese cone from the cozy cone. Oh man, that sounds so good right now. Yep. That's my, that's my perfect day right there.
00:13:08
Speaker
And in my perfect day, I'm staying at the Grand Californian yeah so that I can just walk in, out the gate in, in Disney's California adventure and just like du dr up the elevator to my.
00:13:18
Speaker
Nice. Club level suite. Apparently in this perfect day, I'm really rich. I love it. apparently Would you like the iPad to do whatever in the top corner of there? Okay. Button is says pick. Perfect.
00:13:30
Speaker
Sarah running through life says, do you strength train as well as run during training?

Running and Training Preferences

00:13:36
Speaker
That depends on who you're asking. Uh, yeah, I do. i hate it. i don't, and I don't do enough of it. I really don't enjoy it.
00:13:45
Speaker
Sometimes I'm like, I can feel myself getting weaker. I need to go strength train. Right. You know, or my coach says, you know, you need to be doing this. Yeah. That's usually, I'm not motivated, personally, I'm not motivated by like, oh, I really want to get stronger and jacked and do this you know workout. It's not a motivation of mine, but I do it. I do. I do. how about this? I do the bare minimum. Does that, does that seem about accurate for me? Yeah. For me? Yeah. Yes, it does. Okay. What about you? Yeah, I definitely do. I did not in the beginning. yeah Um, I did not ever do leg stuff, um, but definitely do now.
00:14:19
Speaker
I've always loved doing arm workouts, but not legs. Yeah. When Tom was talking about Bulgarian split squats last week, I was like, no. I've been doing them ever since he said that they're one of his three things. Are you serious? I always do my bodyweight squats for sure. always do bodyweight squats, sometimes weighted, but I always do those ah every day, or yeah especially on a you know like ah my warmup routine. yeah but I always do those and I do calf raises like it's nobody's business, right right especially single leg ones. But the Bulgarian, and I do lunges, but the Bulgarian split squats or whatever never do. And I've been doing them it for about seven days now.
00:14:53
Speaker
And how's it going? Is it bad to say that they're not that hard? then you're clearly not doing it right. I clearly am. No, legit, you clearly are not. Tom's probably listening right now. Want me to demonstrate? Yeah, legit, because if it doesn't hurt you, it's- it hurts, but not like impossible. No, you're going to demonstrate for me later because anyone that's listening that's done them would say- How about you demonstrate in the shorts that you wore back in college? Oh my gosh, AJ. No? Okay.
00:15:24
Speaker
All right. You're killing me right now. You're killing me smells. But yes, ah I wanted to answer for Sarah. I ah typically will do arms and legs three days a week and run for three days a week and then rest for one day.
00:15:38
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Okay, cool. Next random question. This is another one from accidentally athletic Anna. Yeah, Anna submitted a couple for sure. yeah Okay, cool. She says, if you could do a Disney race that wasn't just running, she says, examples of like triathlon skates, et cetera, what would you take Oh, I have zero interest in a triathlon personally.
00:16:01
Speaker
Do you? No. I mean, i like the idea of it, but I'm not a good swimmer. That's my biggest fear is the water. yeah And I think that's pretty common with people that they don't want to do the water.
00:16:11
Speaker
How about skating? Did you know Disney did that one time? No. I think so. Well, I mean, I think I had, I did know that they did it, but I don't know much about it other than that they did it. Rollerblades would be like 1999. Yeah.
00:16:22
Speaker
That's hilarious. I could do rollerblades. do that for sure. Yeah. Yeah. What if there were like jumps and stuff in it? No. It sounds dangerous. You just like to go fast, Ricky Bobby? That's right. That's right. Okay. The next one's from Sarah running through life.
00:16:37
Speaker
Sarah is asking what our ideal race time at Disney would be for a race. Like if there weren't restrictions, like park hours, when would be the ideal time to do a run Disney race? I'll let you answer first. Cause mine's going to be controversial.
00:16:49
Speaker
I have two answers. Perfect. Okay, cool. So my first answer is like 10 a.m. That gives me like, it's not about not sleeping in, but it's like enough time for me to like actually eat breakfast, let my food settle, yep whatever. yep Like I like that better than getting up at 2 a.m. m Okay. um But I also love running at night. um Not necessarily in the dark, like dusk is good or whatever, but I ah i would love to do an evening race. Okay. What about you?
00:17:15
Speaker
I don't change a thing. love it. knew were going say love it. I just knew it. There couldn't be anything more perfect about the current timing. Oh my gosh. love it. Now, I don't know about four days in a row, but two days in a row, sure. Okay.
00:17:28
Speaker
Now I'm creating a new question. oh I would potentially do the dopey challenge. If it was at night? If it was in the evening. Why even call it a challenge? That sounds easy. oh okay okay can we we need to have that on record we have that record that aj just said that sounds easy you know i've said it's not about the miles for me like i don't know i have too it's about the wake-ups yeah i'm not getting up four mornings in a row because we did springtime one time yeah and it was the third day yeah that i was like i don't like this yeah you know it's the third day right it wasn't the second you know and so all the other challenges work for me because it's two days yeah I'm totally cool with it.
00:18:05
Speaker
Yep. So no, i legitimately though, I would, I think the, what I love, I love the early start. It gets me all excited. remember And I love coming back and people are literally dragging their rear ends out of their hotel room for a normal day. Right. And I've just run a half marathon before they're even out of their hotel room. That's right. Yeah. but that's the achiever in me, right? Right. yeah That's the like, oh, nice of y'all to join us today. Right. Which is not very nice of me, but. I i like that. Yeah.
00:18:34
Speaker
Okay. This next one comes from Ryan run. Ryan says, what's the best weekend and why is it marathon weekend? right That's hilarious. So clearly he votes marathon weekend. What's your, the question is what's your favorite weekend? Yeah. What's the best weekend? Yeah. Uh, you want to go first or want me?
00:18:53
Speaker
I already know your answer. I already know your answer. You think you do? I think I do. Well, I think i think you're you might be coming to the dark side. I am. Mine's marathon weekend. Ryan's right. It's the best. I like it because it's intense, yeah but I'm intense. So like that works for me. Yes. If you're not intense, that's why we say, hey, if you're coming for your first time and you're, you know, your first one, whatever, or you're scared to death, whatever, do springtime surprise. Do this, do the 10K or whatever, it's springtime surprise. It's super chill, yeah you know, or or princess and bring a bunch of friends. Yeah. But marathon weekend, it has the competitive element to it. It totally does. And so that works for me i also just love that it's just so full. Like it's that extra day, even though we've never done all the races, it just, it just seems like a, such a,
00:19:40
Speaker
Big weekend. And I like big. Yeah. Um, I believe yours is princess, but the way you've been talking lately, I think you're like, you've got a side eye over towards marathon weekend, I think, but I might be wrong. Yeah. I think that I would still stand firm with, if it's your first race, you should definitely consider doing princess. I feel like it's the most fun, the most relaxed, yup the most inclusive, um, you know, all the things yeah and it was my first. And so that's why I love it, but I am definitely coming over to marathon weekend. I think the longer we run, the more I'm like, okay, this, whatever, like this is the best one I think if you didn't run the marathon, would you still choose marathon weekend?
00:20:19
Speaker
If you were doing 10 K or the half, if you were doing a, not the 26 mile race or a challenge that included it you would choose princess still. Yeah. i' be Interesting.
00:20:31
Speaker
I think so. Okay. You want me do another one? Yeah. Thank you, Ryan. Run, Cat, Run. think Katrina again, yeah. Yes, Katrina. If there was only one run Disney Challenge Weekend you can run, what is it and why?

Parenting and Running Balance

00:20:44
Speaker
that's i just answered that with Ryan. Yeah. For me, it'd be Marathon Weekend. Yeah. If there's only one. Mm-hmm. heyco Oh, you're handing them back over? i'm handing it back over. All right. so let's see who's next. Sarah running through life. Wow.
00:20:56
Speaker
Multiple answers, multiple questions, which I'm totally fine with. What shoes do you find work best for you? I'm going to go ahead and say this right now that it's, I'm glad she said for you yeah because I believe more than anything else, shoes and nutrition are the things that are for you.
00:21:14
Speaker
And you know what mean? Like you can take suggestion and whatever, like, oh yeah, I like Adidas. You know what I mean? But then you need to get fitted, not just measured or whatever. Like you need to go to walk on the mat and do all the things, in my opinion, on on shoes. Do you agree with that? I do agree with that. like let a professional, or if they feel weird, but everyone's wearing them, that doesn't they're not for you. That's my opinion. Yeah. Soapbox is over. I run in ultras, A-L-T-R-A, ultra. It's not super popular. It's really popular in like the trail.
00:21:44
Speaker
trail running hiking community you know they've got a lot of trail shoes or whatever the big thing about the ultras for me is they have a wide toe box that's like the thing they say they said they're advertising whatever says um we're trying to get it you give you as close to being barefoot as possible right there's zero drop which means there's like no no difference between the back and the front of the shoe in terms of elevation whatever yeah and if you aren't equipped and really like strong enough for that yet like or whatever which i'm not propping myself up yeah like you can't just go in my opinion you can't just go put on some zero drop shoes and be fine you know what i mean in my opinion they've got i mean the support is not they're not that supportive right does that make sense they're not that they're i i grew into these shoes and i like them long answer sorry what do you have to say if anything i'm also altruist yep um i was trying to remember the model that i wear
00:22:36
Speaker
I believe you wear the Torrens. A Torren, thank you. I could think was Rivian the whole time you were talking. So you're driving an electric car? an electric shoe. I'm wearing an electric shoe. Yeah, so I like the Torrens the most.
00:22:50
Speaker
I don't, I run dailies. I'm wearing Torrens right now. I run like, you know, what do you call them? Training runs in the Torrens. I do not know the name of my race day shoes. I cannot remember. They're the race day shoes. That's the bottom line. Whatever they say on the website. I would say like, just like any other shoe brand though. Like if you're listening to this and you don't know much about ultras, like yep not all ultras are the same. Oh yeah, of course. Yeah. They have, they have super, you know, uh,
00:23:16
Speaker
For them anyway. Yeah. yeah Yeah. You know what I mean? They kind of look like old man shoes and that's fine. You know what mean? Like if somebody needs that shoe, great. you know what mean? The Torrens were good for me for a daily. The racers are good. And they have a whole line of trail of shoes like they're, yeah, they have all the different levels. Like Hoka does that too. Everybody does that. It's not like the one shoe. But they do all have the white toe box, which I love.
00:23:37
Speaker
Yes. And I don't think the, like the highest drop they have is like four millimeters. I think I don't think they have anything. Maybe they do. I shouldn't, I shouldn't try and do specs on that, but minor zero drop.
00:23:48
Speaker
Okay. Hopefully that answered the question. Whoever, who said, was that Sarah? I don't know. I'm so sorry. i already forgot. Cause I'm already on the next one. Okay. What's the next Melissa wants to know. And you remember we met Melissa? Yes. Okay. At merit that Princess Wigan. Yeah. um Melissa says, i would love to hear more about, and she this is an email, how you juggle running with special needs kids. um She says, i have two kids with special needs, and this is the thing that I find the most hard. I loved when Eric, I loved it, Erica, when you said you're a better mom, partner, et cetera, when you have the time for yourself, you can go for a run, et cetera. You gave me permission that day to get my 45 minute run in guilt-free. Thank you. So Erica, are you okay? i mean, we'll try and approach or attack this question, you know, the best we can. um So for those who don't know, we have three kids. They're all teenage age. And two of those have special needs.
00:24:44
Speaker
yeah Do you want to talk about at all, like kind of high level that, you know, there's multiple challenges and all that stuff, yeah but totally our oldest and youngest have special needs. Our middle child, uh, who you guys have seen on the podcast a few times, that's Taylor. She's off to college. She's our typically developing one, but our oldest and youngest, you want to kind of describe what their challenges are. Yeah. So Addie is our 17 year old and she is much higher functioning than her brother Nicholas. Um, she is on the autism spectrum and she has a couple of other sub diagnoses, but you know, for the most part, she's pretty high functioning. She's pretty independent.
00:25:14
Speaker
She does struggle with a lot of social things, um, processing timing, things like that. Just not really into the same sorts of things that other 17 year old girls are into. Our son Nicholas is much, much more severe. Um, he is verbal, but, uh, sometimes too much. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
00:25:31
Speaker
um He is also on the autism spectrum. He also has five other diagnoses. So he's kind of a little bit a little bit different, a little bit of everything. yeah um I would say that the easiest way to describe Nicholas would be that he is a 21-year-old who, for most areas of his life, function as a preschool to you know five-year-old.
00:25:51
Speaker
So he would be a little bit more challenging. We can't really leave him home alone. um He has to be supervised and and on a schedule for most of his life. So he's a little bit more hands-on than Addy is for sure. Yeah, and um if you're if you're in this community of parents or whatever raising children who have special needs, right, you probably know the phrase, if you've met a kid with autism, you've met one met a kid with autism, right? right yeah like Like everybody's challenges are different right and everybody's strengths are so different, right? Yes, we totally. talked about some of the challenges of our kiddos, but their strengths are ridiculous. Oh, yeah. They just manifest themselves in you know a quirky way or whatever. So we understand and we're not in any way playing a sympathy card or anything Oh, no, absolutely not. We believe, you know whatever your belief system is or whatever, we believe that we've been given the gift of raising these two kiddos. Yeah. Right. We also believe that the kiddos have been given us as their parents. Right. And so you know our faith system, we lean heavily you know into um you know the God that we believe created them.
00:26:52
Speaker
Yeah. And um we know that there is a plan for them. Right. Right. And we are a piece of that plan and we do our best to lean into what we believe so that we can raise them the best way possible. So let's talk about, you know, just kind of how we balance that with, you know, we have things we want to do. We want to run races and all that kind of stuff. So let's talk kind of some of the the things we do. Erica, you want to kick us off? Like, how do we just even schedule wise? Like, how do we try and balance that? Yeah, I would just say that the the biggest thing for us is that we usually stagger our runs. so yeah like if we Especially like for marathon training, when we're going to be gone for a long time on a Saturday, yeah um you know usually we'll try to do it. So like one person's home with the kids and the other person you know goes after they get back or whatever. Which is hard if you don't have that supported support in own house. For sure. Yeah, that's hard. For sure. For sure. I would say as much as I hate running on the treadmill, if you weren't here, yeah um i would definitely just buy a treadmill, put it in the basement, and run in the morning before, if that was my only option. Yeah. Because like she said, and I've said, like you um when you take the time to invest in yourself, you have more to give out. You know you have more to pour out for others. Yeah. And so- But it's ah similar. like Ours are adult adult-ish, you know um special needs young adults, right? like It's similar to having toddlers. You know what I mean? So like if you've got a four-year-old at home, you know exactly what this feels like in terms of you're trying to get your run done today, but your spouse isn't home or whatever. yeah It's kind of like what we we're dealing with. Yeah, i mean that's exactly what we're dealing with. um And so we totally get that feeling. I mean, you can kind of translate this if you're not even if you don't even have kids, you know autism or anything like that. Like if you've got four-year-old, you know what mean? You know you can't just leave them. You know what mean? Like, well, mom's going for her run now. you know ah Dinner's in the fridge. You know you can't just do that. And so I think it's you know really hard for sure. prior We try to prioritize our fitness and whatever because of that idea of like,
00:28:50
Speaker
I've had a super stressful day, whatever, and I'm like, I'm um ah im a lousy parent right now. Like, if I could have 30 to 45 minutes to go burn off right the stress or whatever, like, I'll probably come back and be so much more help.
00:29:03
Speaker
And I think you, you know... You always feel bad. You're like, I'm so sorry, but i i haven't done my run in two days. I really need to go. And i understand that. Yeah. So I'm like, well, then go. Yeah. If you don't have the support system, gosh, and and that's really hard. I guess then you're, I guess we would choose time at that time and money thing, right? So like, would we pay someone to watch the kids or whatever right so that we could get that fitness in? You know what I mean? i'm I'm guessing now at this point in our fitness journey, wherever we probably would. I would, yeah. for You know, because we know how valuable it is to our health and how we are received by others. Right.
00:29:43
Speaker
When we get our workouts in and maintain good, good, healthy. Yeah. And you have to have, you know, when you're raising special needs kids, you have to have a little bit more patience, a little bit more, you know, your ability to process through maybe some ridiculousness. Like, you know, we have, we get that, i think, from the release of, you know, running and all that good stuff. So.
00:30:06
Speaker
Yeah. And let me say to ah Melissa and all the parents out there with special needs kids, one, two, whatever you're dealing with, you are so strong. We go through as special needs parents, the patience testers of all patience testers yeah every day, all day. So we say this a lot. You can't rattle Erica and I. Not because we are amazing. We've been through it yeah with with the kiddos, right? And you could also say the same thing about people who have had to battle breast cancer or whatever. When you've gone through difficult things and you deal with it every day, all day, your resilience is a whole nother thing. So shout out to all the parents out there with special needs kids. yeah um It is hard. Like it's almost impossibly hard some days. Like, I mean, some days it is, yeah you know, I'm at wit's end, you know, um but keep showing up.
00:30:58
Speaker
Yep. That's right. Okay. i Probably nothing helpful in there other than that's how we try to do it. And we support each other one ah hundred percent. And if we were friends, we have friends with special needs kids, we do the same thing. You know what I mean? Like we just know how hard it is. So support system, I guess, is the other part of that.
00:31:15
Speaker
Um, okay. Next question. This is Krista. Krista says, I'm a first time racer going by myself. Are there any meetups or groups to join?
00:31:26
Speaker
Absolutely. I would say the rise and run meetup is a fabulous place to find other. I feel like a lot of single runners, like people that are there by themselves, maybe.
00:31:36
Speaker
Solo runners? Maybe it might be better than single runners because they're probably not single. As I was saying it, I was like, this is not the word I was looking for. This is not an online dating situation. That is correct. i oh I guess it could be. It could be, potentially. you know okay Solo runners. Solo runners, yeah. You'll find a lot of solo runners. We've been to ah two meetups now, and I'm just kicking myself for not going sooner. Yeah. And what it is mostly, you know, it's that just like, am I going to belong? Am I, you know, am I going to feel like a loner in the corner? Not at this meetup. No.
00:32:06
Speaker
No, you will come away with like five new friends at least. And I don't care who you are. Like yeah the Rise and Run gang welcome you in and other people just walk up and they're like, hi. Yeah. They don't know who you are whatever. That's fine. They're like, hi my name's such and such. Yeah. So I would say definitely, I think typically they meet at the food truck area, Disney Springs so on the Saturday of a race weekend, whatever that is. So yeah you might run a few races before you get to meet folks. um yeah To me, there's I know there's lots of other groups and whatever that meet up, but um that's the one that we have experience with. And I feel like everyone's welcome. You don't to be a part of whatever, you know, like some membership or something like that or some run club. So yeah anyway, we love it.

Non-Disney Races and Racing Advice

00:32:52
Speaker
Do you know of any other runs besides Disney that are destination worthy? Nope. Disney's the only ones that exist. Sorry.
00:33:01
Speaker
you Just kidding. Destination worthy non Disney races. Erica, do you have anything on your list? I have a few. I mean, I don't know of like specific races, but places I would like to run beside for Disney would be like Hawaii. Oh yeah, the on the Honolulu Marathon. Yeah, or like in like Colorado, like, so you know, like mountain type, not running up and down the mountain, but you know, just mountain views. Oh, you just want Mountain views, yeah. Yeah, I think Denver's pretty flat, right?
00:33:29
Speaker
Perfect. Good. I don't know. I just want like, you know, some pretty scenery to look at as I'm running. I see. Yeah. But I don't know like specific race names. Vacation races. Have you seen their stuff or whatever? they know That's the name of it. Vacation races. you it's probably not a good thing. I mean, it's probably a good thing that I don't know about them.
00:33:46
Speaker
Yeah, earmuffs for a second while I tell telling everybody else. Vacationraces.com or whatever. They host um races, 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, around or very like just on the outskirts of national parks. So Zion and Glacier. um They even do one Smoky Mountains. And so it's not in the national park. you know I'm sure there's all sorts of permitting problems. But you're getting what you just described. yes You're on like maybe a... um uh fire road or whatever and you can see the national park yeah stuff and that's pretty high on my list yeah i'd love to do it you know like i don't have any other reason big sur oh yes i've seen footage of that that looks good is like i guess one of the hilliest so maybe not like from like a you know, time, time goal, but from like a beautiful scenery goal, that would be super awesome. Those are all high on my list. And then there is one that's super high my list and I haven't said anything yet about it. And I think now it's probably just the time to drop it on the podcast okay is that New York city marathon is on my list.
00:34:51
Speaker
Right. And impossible to get into. You know, unless you charity your way in. Anyway, I haven't said anything yet, but I did win. And you know this, but no one else does. I did get a lottery pick yes this year for the New York City Marathon. So your boy is going to New York. awesome Well, AJ and Erica are going to New York. AJ's going to run the marathon. I was one of the 1%, super fortunate to get a spot. yeah So haven't booked any travel yet or anything. And so I know my big eyes. Yeah, my eyes just got really big over here. ah You know, you don't expect to get in. Right. You know what mean? And so you don't book it. And then all of a sudden they send you a thing and bill your credit card or whatever. And you're like, oh, great. You go look at hotels and you're like, oh, oh my gosh. yeah So what you're saying is if any of our listeners know anybody that have an Airbnb in New York. Yeah. Uh, I will yeah cash in a favor. Heck yeah. That is a bucket list for me. And very fortunate. I'm going to get to do that this year. Yeah. It's going to be awesome for you. Yeah. I'm super excited about that one. Uh, you know, something like Boston, wherever is not on my list, but something about the, like, i don't know the history or whatever around New York city. Yeah. You know, it's on my list and I get to do it this year. That's awesome. i Super excited about that. Super excited for you. Any other comments, Erica, about destination races?
00:36:05
Speaker
Didn't you find one like the in the Keys, like Key West or something? mean, it sounds like would like to do. You want to like run between the islands or something? but Yes. Sign me up. You sent that one to me. You know, like how you send me reels? Yes. Like sometimes you'll send me like a, and look where this race goes. You know what i mean? And I'm like, whoa, okay. That awesome. That's how I know I can get you.
00:36:25
Speaker
Yes. ah You okay if I read one more and then hand you back to iPad? All right. Laced up dad life. This is Jared. I know Jared. um If you could give yourself one piece of advice before your first race, you know, back back in the day, right what would it be and would you listen?
00:36:43
Speaker
You're nodding, but not saying it. Yeah. i'm Only one piece. Yes. Now, what's the thing you're like, you have five seconds to tell yourself in the past, past self. Mm-hmm. I think the most important thing is finish the training. Yeah.
00:36:58
Speaker
It was between that and nutrition because I didn't know anything about nutrition. I ran my first half marathon with no fuel, yeah which is like equally terrible. But I think the one that that wins out of those two is finish the training. Yep. We've said it a lot. It's a totally different race when you've done the training. And not just a different race, but a different race recovery. Yeah. Like now we could run half marathon and be fine the next day. But back then I didn't train and I couldn't walk for like three days or something. I mean, I could, but like painfully, so painfully. So let me ask this question. Yeah. Would you tell yourself you didn't do the training, don't go do the race, you're going to regret it, or would you still say do the race? I would still do the race. But are you just you're just going to pay for it. You're going to pay for it. I see. Okay. Yeah.
00:37:42
Speaker
I love, there's nothing better to me than, well, first of all, there's nothing better than a finisher medal. Secondly, there's nothing better than walking away from a finish line confident. Yeah. Whether you reached your time goal or not. Right. Right. Whether it took three and a half hours or not. I'm not talking about like a fast race. It's just, just walking away from the start line and being like, thank you for my banana. Thank you for my whatever. Do you want to take some pictures? Not, oh my gosh, I'm gonna die. Mm-hmm. And that comes with finishing the training and the strength training and the nutrition and fueling, ah hydrating. And so, yeah, I'm i'm with you on that. like
00:38:17
Speaker
Like, finish your training is a big one. think mine would probably be, especially for my first race, because I think that was in the question. Yeah. Yeah, before your first race. For me, it would be like, slow down 20%. And look around.
00:38:29
Speaker
Like that would be the one for me because I remember my first one especially like the finish line was the destination. And I just didn't, even though they said PR and fun and all stuff, I didn't look around. Yeah. And I really should have. Yeah, especially when you're running at Disney. That's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what mean at Disney. There's a time and a place to run hard and put your head down and right and and go. But at Disney for sure, which was our first really. That would be my advice to myself.
00:38:54
Speaker
Yeah. Take a breath. All right. Can i give you the iPad and see what's next? This one comes from Michelle F. I would also love to learn about how to volunteer at a run Disney event.
00:39:08
Speaker
m I don't know anything about that, do you? Wait, nope. Do not. The only thing I think I understood from somebody recently is that, so you used to be able to volunteer, but I think the only real like mainstream avenue to volunteer now is through a charity. So I think charities supply the volunteers, I think. oh Or it's cast members or like the Advent Health medical people are obviously volunteers, but they're medically trained. But I think like water stations and metal hand routers and whatever, I think is through a charity.
00:39:42
Speaker
Oh, wow. Okay. So I don't think you can like go to run Disney you yet like the old days and be like, hey, I'd like to volunteer. Where do I sign up? And they would say oh fill out this form. Right. Now I think you have to go through a name of charity. where You what I mean? And do they have slots? I think, Michelle, i I don't know that for a fact. If somebody does know and wants to shoot us a message, and we'll let us know. We'll throw it out and tell you, oh yeah, here's what we learned. But that's what I think. Okay.
00:40:04
Speaker
All right. We have another one from Anna. She says, how do you feel about the 2026 virtual race preview? Will you do one? I don't know.
00:40:17
Speaker
It's a preview at them at the time of recording right now. We haven't seen the official thing. And what they'll do is they'll release the artwork the day before the podcast comes out just to mess with me. you know yeah But the preview a little silhouettes, it's got Goofy and Max, which everyone immediately said Powerline, and i don't think so. I think it's just Goofy and Max is my opinion. Really? Yeah. Because if it was a goofy movie, it would be Powerline or them with like the fishing pole like in the silhouette. I think it's just Goofy and Max. Anyway, Pocahontas, Hercules, and Cusco.
00:40:53
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Of all those, I love Hercules and Cusco. And so if they sell individual races, yeah I'll probably want to do those depending on how they look.
00:41:04
Speaker
Some of the races, like I think the love on the run was like a you paid for the whole thing. it was all or nothing. right Right. If it's all or nothing, I probably won't do it. I think we've said before the virtual races, you're buying a medal. yeah You can do the run. You can not do the run. no one No one counts it. You know what mean? No one's going to come check. Yeah. So it's really, even though, yes, it is a little, you know, there's some accountability there. You're really buying a medal. That's what you're doing. And so what I don't like is that, man, put put these characters on the race course. know. I'm like, are you going to sell merch? Like I would buy the merchandise with that. Right. Although I do, I wish it was Powerline. I mean, I hope it's Powerline. It might be.
00:41:41
Speaker
It might be. But Powerline and Cusco, like I would definitely, yeah we need those for a real, reason Yeah. And then what I need to know is like Kronk's my favorite character from that movie. Like, is it just Cusco? Or is it all the, you know? so Right, right, right, right. So, sorry, Anna, to answer your question, I like it.
00:41:56
Speaker
Yeah. can't wait to see the full thing. And what's the bonus thing, right? So like right now you're using, we're not recording video right now. You're using the blanket from the Love on the Run. on the Run, yeah. it came with like a bonus item. And then one year is a beanie and another year I don't remember, right? Oh, oh, ears the ears. Yeah. So if it comes with something awesome, maybe that pushes me over the edge, you know? I don't know.
00:42:16
Speaker
Okay. Probably on Tuesday before this podcast comes out on Wednesday. That's right. Okay. The next one comes from Colleen Johnson. She says post-marathon immediate nap slash rest day or easy park day slash walk it out is the day after worse.
00:42:33
Speaker
um I'm going to answer is the day after worse goes back to two questions ago. That's correct. Did you do and complete your training fully and follow coach Tom or coach Chris Twiggs or whatever their guidance all the way through the way they said to? Then no, the next the next day it gets easier in my opinion. right Every minute gets easier and easier and easier in my opinion. yeah you know yeah um you You agree with that? A thousand percent. If you didn't, then yeah, the next day really sucks. Mm-hmm.
00:43:02
Speaker
I'm not trying to pick pick on people like that. That's experience talking. Right. That's having not really fully. Having experienced both. Correct. Not being able to walk and it's like a normal day. After the race, I'm a big fan of short nap for like just let the body turn off for 20 to 30 minutes or whatever and then move on.
00:43:23
Speaker
Yeah. For the rest of the day. Right. That's, that's my, and I don't know if that's medically correct. Um, but I go back to the room, I do stretches and all that, you know, at the finish line, I do stretches in the room, uh, compression boots, foam roll, put my legs up on the wall and get the blood flowing and all all those things. Then I usually take shower, get under the cold sheets, sleep for 20 to 30 minutes, wake up.
00:43:45
Speaker
I'm ready to go do something. Except this past marathon year, I didn't take a nap. Remember this? Well, your of course you remember. It was like two months ago. And I didn't take a nap and we went to the park anyway.
00:43:57
Speaker
And then i my body totally fell apart at the end. Yes. You were like shaking and shivering. Next question. All right. Gianna wants to know, what is our favorite distance and why?
00:44:10
Speaker
I have a funny answer for this. You do? Yeah. Okay. So I've never actually signed up for a 10K outside of a challenge. Oh, right. Like on its own. Sure.
00:44:22
Speaker
But I honestly feel like a 10K is a great distance. Yeah. Like it's it's like um short enough that like you could totally like PR or you could take it super easy. Like, but it's, you know, it's like a, it's not, it's not too long of a distance is what I'm trying to say. For where you've trained yourself up to now. Correct. Yes. yeah Understood. Yep. Yes. um But like I said, I've never actually signed up for a 10K on its own. So I would say that I would definitely choose a half marathon over a full marathon.
00:44:49
Speaker
Okay. Yeah. We would have signed up for the wine and dine 10K of the three caballeros. So that was part of the plan was to try and get the challenge. And if we couldn't get the challenge, do the 10K. Yeah. And we got zero. Yeah.
00:45:01
Speaker
You got nothing. um I would say my favorite distance where I'm the happiest is half marathon. Yeah. I love that distance. The 10K is not my favorite. I feel like I just got hot and and all that. Like for me. Yeah. And I'm like, now my body's totally flowing by around mile five. And then at mile six, it's over. Like it's just kind of a bummer for me. 13, I really love.
00:45:27
Speaker
If you said what my favorite distance to like all my favorite memories are from of of all whatever it's the it's the full marathon. Yeah, that is true. But my core memories are from the marathon. Correct. Where do I feel the most accomplished? Yeah. The sense of like you can't stop me all that whatever my favorite medals are all the full marathon. Yeah.
00:45:50
Speaker
But I feel the best on the half. Right. You know, like my body. Yeah. My body. so There's no like mile 20 to 23 where you feel like you're going to die. But because there's no mile 20 to 23, that means there's no mile 25 where you feel amazing. Right. You know. Like, holy cow, I actually accomplished all this and I'm going to finish. Right. Yeah. And so the half has some of that. But once you have trained up to a marathon distance, yeah all of a sudden now, more it's it's still a fantastic distance and it's still really hard. Yeah. And all of this is perspective. I hope nobody hears this being like, well, you only ran a 10K. That is not us in any way. The first time we did our first 5K, we were like, we just ran a thousand miles. Like, I mean, that's what it felt like. Yeah. And it's still a huge accomplishment because you can go for speed and whatever. Yeah. So don't hear that in any way. What what what we're saying is, okay, so now if you've done this, your your body is now conditioned because of hard work over time. Right. to be able to do a half marathon anytime you want. right Not necessarily fast, but you can and and you you maintain it. It's hard work. yeah I mean, I'm being honest, it's hard work. totally That's when you're like having the debate between a half and a full. right You know what mean? right If you and I decided not to run for six months or a year or something like that, we'd be looking at the half going, oh boy.
00:47:06
Speaker
So anyway. So Colleen, I think my answer is actually the half. I think that's the real answer is my favorite distance to the half, but all my memories come from the full core memories. Yeah.
00:47:18
Speaker
All right.

Dream Races and Encouraging Participation

00:47:19
Speaker
Our good friend, Erica. Mm-hmm. CK. CK. Yep. She wants to know what's a dream race for y'all? Like a bucket list race doesn't have to be a world major.
00:47:29
Speaker
Mine's a world major and I'm doing it in November. All right. I mean, New York really, like I would say New York or London would be would be the like a dream races to be able to do.
00:47:41
Speaker
Yeah. I would say probably either like Honolulu or or ah per Disney Paris. Oh, yeah. Bring brought those back. Yeah. please I would love to do that. Yeah. Yeah.
00:47:52
Speaker
Yeah. Please bring those back. How about they do the London Marathon and then like a week later do the I would stay to do both. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. what what They could call it like the Lumiere challenge. Nice. Instead of the goofy challenge. I like that. um All right. Anna, again, she wants to know, what is our favorite character stop or picture that you've done?
00:48:14
Speaker
Oh, so this has to be one I've actually accomplished? Yeah. Not the one that you wish you had a stop for. I really have a hard time answering this right now because Powerline Max, I'm so happy to have gotten and couldn't be more upset that it wasn't with you. Right. Because we were so we should have gotten that when we were dressed like Powerline Max and together. So we both got it on this marathon, but we weren't together at that time on the course. Right. We do have one with him together from the Wine and Dine after party. We do, but we weren't in race gear. We were not, no.
00:48:45
Speaker
So yeah that's a bummer. That is a bummer. But it's still it's still a good picture. Yeah, it's cute. We were wearing our Wine and Dine shirts. I love the... is ah Does a post-race picture count? Sure. With the character? Sure. The one with the evil queen giving you the eye when you wouldn't um put the metal on the on the villain side yeah is great because I'm totally zoned in on the camera like, cheese, and she's glaring you down and you're looking at the camera like, just take the picture. i know. I'm like, there's a long line. People are staring at And she's like, mm-mm. Yeah. I really like that picture.
00:49:19
Speaker
That's funny. Any other characters that you've... She said favorite. So I guess favorite... ah i' ah um I'm going go with the Evil Queen one probably. yeah Oh, no.
00:49:30
Speaker
ah Mickey, Chef Mickey and Chef Minnie. Oh, that one was good. Is that Chef Mickey and Chef Minnie? Yeah. But we're Cruise Mickey and Cruise Minnie? Yes. that was That was a good one. That was a good one. That was a good one. Yeah. Okay. I'm going to go with that one. Okay.
00:49:41
Speaker
Honestly, like we have a lot of good character photos, but I think the one that means the most to me is our finish line photo from the first marathon. Yeah. Not a character. It's just a coarse photo. Just a coarse photo. Yep. Castle Run Cindy wants to know, how do you convince your husband that every run Disney weekend is a good idea?
00:50:01
Speaker
ah Cindy, it's the other way around. In this house, Owen. In this house. Yeah. AJ, I mean, we both love run Disney, but that's the one thing that I don't have to convince AJ of anything. I'm like.
00:50:14
Speaker
Usually you're trying to talk me Not out of it, but like, do we need this right now? Is this a good decision financially? Like, whatever. Yeah. You know, we're supposed to be doing this, you know? And I'm like, we'll figure it out. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. How do you convince your husband? I mean, he's got to love Disney as much as you do. You think so? Yeah. So that even if he's not running, you can convince him to, you know, you can go to the parks while I run or, you know, whatever. Yeah. Yeah.
00:50:43
Speaker
um our friends, Laura and Will. Laura was running. Will was not coming to the race weekend. And um and i I don't know if you know the story. I was like, tell Will to come to the race weekend so I can meet him in person. yeah And she's like, he doesn't you know he's and he's not coming. He's going to watch the kids or whatever. said, give me his phone number. And so she sent me his phone number. And I'm like, hey, get your butts at the race weekend. He wasn't running or anything. Anyway, he actually had already convinced himself before I text him. But ah yeah, send me your husband's phone number and I'll text him. will talk him into I'll text him and say, hey, get to the race weekend. That's funny.
00:51:18
Speaker
By the way, if you hear lots of noise, it's june June. June is awake and going crazy and wants to bite my arm off or take out the mic. Yep. All right. You want to read one more and then hand me that? Sure.
00:51:31
Speaker
I was trying to figure out how to say this handle, but I don't even know. So we're just going say Michael. Okay. Michael wants to know best and worst experience from a Wren Disney event. He has a second question, while we already answered it. Our favorite distance. so Favorite distance. Best and worst experience from Wren Disney event.
00:51:47
Speaker
Worst experience was Rodeo Roundup barbecue the night before the Princess 10K, I believe. And I felt it in my stomach the entire time. That was not my favorite. We also made a little bit of a mistake with a deluxe burger.
00:52:03
Speaker
that one time before the marathon yeah and it didn't impact the whole race i have not had a bad experience oh wait the bus getting lost oh yeah and we weren't lost long enough but it was a long two minutes the three minutes uh we don't we've been knock knock on wood over here super lucky not to have any major catastrophes on a race weekend yet yeah Yeah. Uh, and best experience, uh, you can't, you can't beat for me finish line on the marathon for sure. Yeah. Um, I've gotten to do it three times and it's the three best moments that I have, you know and mean? Like it's just so good.
00:52:39
Speaker
Um, and that might not mean marathon for everybody, but for me, it's been finish line marathon. I'll take finish line on the marathon over main street of any other race. I agree with that. Now, I understand Main Street over the medal, but in terms of the feeling of crossing the finish line, I'll take the finish line. For the marathon. For the marathon. For sure. Absolutely. A thousand percent.
00:52:58
Speaker
Okay. Thank you, Michael. Let's see what's next.

Careers and Personal Interests

00:53:01
Speaker
Kim Murray, 728. When not podcasting or running, what do each of you do for work? um i am in video production. So I have my own video production company, which means we do commercials and corporate work and lots of branding. you know If you're in the industry, you understand that. um Not so much like social media stuff or anything like that. Some events, you know like ah you know video for large events, things like that, you know big conferences or arena stuff. um
00:53:33
Speaker
Yeah. So that's what i do. So we have a video podcast because I'm a video person. Right. The video guy couldn't just say, well, let's just turn on some mics. yeah We had to do our hair and be ready for every episode because we had to have video. So that's what I do. Yeah. I would say that you excel in storytelling through video.
00:53:54
Speaker
Yeah. You're really good at like making people cry, making them feel all the emotions, all the things. Yep. Thanks. You're very good at that. I can make you cry anytime. Yep, you can. um No, yeah yeah. Yeah, that's actually a really good way to put it. Yeah. I tell stories through video. That's a good one. um It's usually for brands, you know mediums, you know not small, medium to large businesses usually. Yeah.
00:54:17
Speaker
What about you? Oh, yes. So um I work for a neuropsychologist. I administer neuropsych testing for patients that have traumatic brain injuries and different kinds of Alzheimer's and dementia. Yep.
00:54:31
Speaker
Usually if you guys send us a message on Instagram or send us an email, AJ is the first one to get it because I'm usually with patients yeah until, you know, 4.30 or 5 every day. yeah but you have a real job. Well, you have a real job. It's just that yours is here. Flexible. More flexible. yeah That's right. That's right. Yep.
00:54:50
Speaker
Yeah, so the reason you guys really like Erica's spirit and the way she speaks and all that is because she has that patience and that understanding and kindness that she demonstrates every single day, which is why you're good at your job.
00:55:03
Speaker
Thank you. You are exactly where you probably should be. Yeah. Those patients go through difficult times and the testing is really hard and you make it easy on them. Yeah.
00:55:16
Speaker
Cool. I'm glad she didn't say when you're not running or podcasting, what do you do for fun? Because I wasn't i wasn't sure what I was going to come up with. Nothing. Got nothing. Yeah. We cook dinner for our kids.
00:55:28
Speaker
um All right. Stride Sisters podcast. Natalie asks if you could have one Disney treat appear in your hands right now. Ooh. What would it be? And I'm going to answer first because I immediately hit reply to Natalie and said, hey, I'm going to answer it on the podcast, right but I'm going to tell you right now. And she she appreciated that. She said hers would probably be the same thing. I think that's what she said. um Anyway, thanks to our good friend, Jessica, Jessica and Kevin. yeah Jessica said when we went to Disneyland, hey, you should get the churro toffee. right And I said, the what? Why? That sounds weird. Why don't I just get a churro? And she said, no, get a churro toffee. So we went to the candy shop, got a churro toffee. Oh, and she said, get two. You're going to need your own. We got two just in case. Mine was gone.
00:56:18
Speaker
Yeah. Gone. 60 seconds maybe. think it's the first time you finished a snack before me. Yes, it was. It was absolutely gone. And I have since recommended to every person I know right going to Disneyland. I'm looking at you, Brian. And so, yeah, literally recommend it to everybody and everybody loves it, I think.
00:56:38
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. What about you? Mine's a tie, but they're both from the same place, if that helps. Okay. So it's the blue drink thing with the little boba pear balls. I thought you were just about to say the blue milk from Galaxy's Edge. Oh, my gosh. I was going to like, I don't even know you. Yeah. And then the little cream cheese wrap thing. You're talking about of Avatar. Yes. The blue. Yeah, I got you. Yes. I don't know what it's called, but it's so delicious. But the place, I think, is called Pongu Pongu or something, right?
00:57:10
Speaker
Sure. Yeah. Maybe that's name the drink. that's the name of the wrap. I don't know. I don't know. Anyway, it's the blue drink that has little like pear flavored boba balls or whatever. And then there's like cream cheese wrap with like a light dusting I don't know what, it's so delicious. Pineapple. Yeah. It's like a, they call it a spring roll or something, but it's got like pineapple and cream cheese. Yeah. I don't know. It's delicious. Yes. So go to Pandora and kind of like it's right by Flight of Passage. Yeah, it's when you're exiting Flight Exiting Flight Passage. Yeah. Yep. Go get that. Also, honorary mention of the Build Your Own Popcorn. Oh, yeah. That's so good. Which now super popular thanks to TikTok or whatever. everybody knows about know. used to be able to go in and no one knew it was there. Now there's like a 10-year long line. Trust me. 15 bucks gets you a snack that will last your entire trip.
00:57:59
Speaker
It's awesome. Well, no, doesn't last you the whole trip. It does not last me the entire trip. It lasts me the whole trip. I just snack on it all trip. mean, I eat it real fast and then I have a stomach ache for the entire trip. So if you don't know real fast, put mix your two flavors of popcorn you want, yeah whatever you want. Regular cheddar and caramel is like the mix. Cheddar and caramel. Yep. You talked to me into that. Drizzle whatever you want on it. White chocolate, chocolate, dark chocolate, yeah you know peanut butter. No, don't know. Something else. Put whatever candy you want in it. Yep. There's like cookie crumbles, pretzels. Yes. All kinds of M&M's. So good. Yep. Do it. So good. Okay, now hungry.

Pre-Race Preparations and Injury Updates

00:58:39
Speaker
ah This one was an email. David G, one of the things i would like to hear is some discussion of your pre-race warmup routine. I often see runners at other races warm up with like a pre-race run, which seems out of place with not overexerting yourself pre-race. I see others doing pre-race static stretches while others do more dynamic stretches. What do you do during your pre-race warmup? And can you even do that in the corral?
00:59:06
Speaker
Long question, but I get what he's saying. Yeah. So I would say at home, I'm doing dynamic stretches. yes um Our running coach, Clay, Clay Murfit Performance on his Instagram, he's got like little reels that walk you through a pre-run. I always do one of his. um In the corral, it's a little trickier because when it's close enough to the time of the race starting, you're already crammed in. So you can't really move around much. So I would say like... I try not to go out too fast. Yes.
00:59:35
Speaker
As like a bit of a warm up, if you will. Yeah. But at home, definitely dynamic stretches. For sure. um i will... Right or wrong, I don't know, David. But I will do some stuff in the hotel room, which I know yeah is two hours before I'm going to race. yeah But I still do some bodyweight squats and some lunges and some calf raises. um And you know i don't know what the thing where you... I don't know how to call those side lunges. I don't know. Whatever those are called.
01:00:05
Speaker
You know what i'm talking about, though. Anyway. oh Kind of get the hip flexors moving. Yeah, Anyway, I do all that in the hotel room. Probably a waste of time. Because two hours later, you're standing there crammed in. yeah But usually when we get to the pre-corral bathroom area, I usually do take an opportunity when there's no one around to do that a little bit more. yeah And now I'm like maybe 30 to 45 minutes before a race start, which still seems a little early, but I'm just thinking something's better than nothing. And then once you're in the corral, you're toast. yeah You know, like it's just, it's lot- Unless you want to go to the very back and just- Yeah, yeah. and Chill back there. Yep. For me, it's a lot of calf raises. Yeah.
01:00:45
Speaker
And I will, when it starts to, like, when it does that first um push, everybody pushes forward, I will stop short and do like six lunges. Yes. Forward lunges or whatever, right there. Right. And then the people behind me have had enough of that. Right. And they move me forward. But just to get them in. Yeah. And you feel really dumb doing it.
01:01:06
Speaker
And I just, I'm like, y'all can think whatever you'd like. You know what mean? I don't want to hurt. Right. So yes, it is very hard once you're in the corral. The you're, I think you're referring to a shakeout run, the pre-race run. I'm a fan of it for races that I'm going specifically for time. It seems counterintuitive, but I will go for a 30 minute run or a two mile run, something, you know, like that, where it's not, I'm not elevating my heart rate. You what mean? I'm zone two, maybe zone three, maybe. But aren't you doing that the day before? Day before. Yes, day before. yeah um And it's it's not, I mean, there might be some, a little bit of speed in there for like 30 seconds. Right, right. Just to like, I think of it as, and I don't know if this is right, kicking the dust off of everything, off of riding in the plane, yeah you know, sitting in a hotel, like all that, just getting things moving yeah is what I think it's doing. yeah I'm a big fan of it. It's never done me wrong. Yeah.
01:02:02
Speaker
I don't think I should go run a hard run or, or, ah or a six mile race the day before. But sometimes we treat the 10 K before a half marathon as our shakeout where we take it super easy yeah because we know we have performance goals the next day.
01:02:18
Speaker
Hopefully that helps. Don't know if it did, but we're still chatting. All right. Jesse runs Disney. Jessica is her name. How is Erica's hip doing? That's a good question. That is such a great question.
01:02:30
Speaker
So for those who don't remember or know, the hip pain started when and caused a problem through when? Like timeline real fast? Yeah. Well, it started when I PR'd the Silver Comet. Yep. So October. Yep.
01:02:45
Speaker
I literally felt myself injured when I was finishing that race. yes I thought when I fell at Thanksgiving and broke my toes and I wasn't going to be able to run for six weeks that it would work itself out during that time because I wasn't going to be running.
01:03:00
Speaker
its did not. It still was bothering me. It was bothering me a lot for marathon weekend. It was bothering me a lot for princess weekend. It has not bothered me a ton since we've been home. I've been focusing a lot on leg strength exercises.
01:03:16
Speaker
And I also haven't been doing a lot of long runs. I think the longest I've run is like four miles or something. right um I've been trying to focus on doing like zone two easy runs. It's really hard for me to do those. We've talked about this before. like It's hard for any of us. Like, I just, I feel like every time I run, I just need to run as fast as I possibly can. I don't know why. Like, I can't explain the logic behind it. I don't know. But the few times that we've gone out and run together, you know, at home for training and you're like, slow down. And I'm like, I can't. Like, this is this is just the speed I run. I don't know. Like, um I can incorporate more walk breaks, but I can't run slower. I don't know. And so um so I'm really focusing on that. It seems kind of lame, but I feel like it's going to help in the long run. Yeah. um so So that may be why it hasn't been bothering me very much, but ah yeah, it's been good. yeahp
01:04:04
Speaker
Good. Yeah. You have two speeds. You have walking and you what was that? That's you. Like those are your only two options. We have kind of learned that AJ and I do run the same speed for the most part, but he doesn't use walk breaks. And so when I incorporate my walk breaks, that's what makes me end up being so much slower.
01:04:22
Speaker
But the walk breaks are good for you. Okay, I'll do one more question, then hand it back over. I don't know how many we have left. Hopefully this is a good decision to answer all these questions on here. I don't know.

Product Promotion and Race Enjoyment

01:04:33
Speaker
Candice, Magic Hatter Co. Let me just throw a plug in for Candice really fast. We love her and her hats. We found her hats randomly on Etsy because we were dressing up as- Sorcerer Mickey. Sorcerer Mickey. And we're just on Etsy going, Sorcerer Mickey hat. You know what mean? Like whatever. And you found something and was like, meh.
01:04:52
Speaker
And then you know I found something. was like, meh. Anyway, I came across one. i'm like- I remember you text me when I was at work. And I showed it to you and I even said, it's more expensive than all the other options. You know, like I was like, i but it but I don't care. yeah I'm like, it's so good. Had the ears on it and whatever. And so then we found a visor for you from her yeah from her shop and we ordered those and we wore them on marathon. I loved them. they were They were perfect. So then we ordered some custom hats from her for Disneyland. so She was so patient with us. Yeah. This was me.
01:05:28
Speaker
Hey, yeah I didn't even know her name really at that time. Yeah, you did i didn't know her name. I'm like, magic hatter co, you know, Etsy person. I have an idea for my hat. Can you do a custom thing? Because I don't want ears on this one, but I would like this, you know? And then she's like, how about, okay, so here's a mock-up. I'm like, nah, I don't like that. How about this? And so I just, and and poor Candace, was like a week before Disneyland. Yeah. And I would have backed off if I didn't think she meant it, you know what I mean? But she was so awesome. Yeah. And she got my hat yeah exactly where I wanted it. Yeah. custom. No one else has this hat, you know? That's right. It's got the two castles on it. yeah Because we were doing coast to coast. Yep. Matched our colors. She made your hat. Anyway, she couldn't ship them on time really because I was such a lazy bum and did it at the last minute. So she hand delivered them. Yes. At Disneyland, which meant we got to meet Candice and turns out she's totally awesome. So if you need a hat, ball cap, visor. Check her out. A hundred percent. Yeah. Magic Hatterco not sponsored. Just awesome. Okay. So now her actual question. Oh yeah. Why?
01:06:30
Speaker
Uh, why is princess your favorite? I've heard so many negatives about that weekend and we'll just go ahead and say, I know we just said we probably are starting to lean towards marathon more than princess, but princess is a solid, like right there contender as our favorite. and we yeah have, we have honestly said princess is our favorite. I think we've just started to fall in love with marathon. So why, i guess, even if it's not your favorite, why do you love it? because She says she's heard so many negatives. Yeah, I mean, we've said this before, but Princess was my first run Disney race, um so I feel like your first one always kind of becomes like your true love. yeah um I feel like it's the most fun, the most costumes, the most, yes um you know, it's it's fun for everybody. So if you're just walking, if you're, you know, super fast runner, if you're super slow runner, if you've never run before, if you've run 500 half marathons, like it doesn't matter. Like Princess Weekend is for everybody. um It's tons of fun.
01:07:26
Speaker
I will say, and you've said this before, that I feel like as the years go by, there's more and more like Instagram influencers who just want to like record everything. And I feel like some of the like fun girl groups, you know, the girls trip to go race have turned into like a little bit of like, I don't know, like high school clicks or some crap, but like, uh, yeah, I, my, my, I think the way I boil that down is it's turned into a lot of a look at me. Yeah. ah Weekend. Yeah. I think that's probably the negative maybe that comes across when it comes to princess. Whereas it used to just be so much pink and fun. Yeah.
01:08:01
Speaker
You know, and i still think it's really fun. It is. If you can say, okay, that's fine. you You and your little whatever is going on over there. You do you. I'm still going to have a good time. I'm not going to let you feel bad about me. I'm not going to let you, you know. Make me feel bad.
01:08:17
Speaker
Get in my way. Like, yep. Okay. So you stopped right in front of me for your Instagram reel, whatever. I'm just not going to let it bother me. yeah yeah Then you can have a great time. However, I do agree. If you don't want any of that, go to Wine and Dine.
01:08:29
Speaker
Yeah, for sure. know yeah ah For sure. There's just a lot of picture taking, photo posting, all that. I think that's the negative. yeah i don't i don't I don't see any other drama. No.
01:08:40
Speaker
um I love dudes dressed in tutus and whatever. like that That to me is just fun. yeah You can do it on the other weekends, but there's something about princess weekend. It's totally cool. Yeah.

Running Together and Listener Insights

01:08:51
Speaker
right. So ah this question comes from Ashley Sant. And she wants to, well, she says she wants an episode okay on training with your spouse. Let's just turn it into a question instead of an episode. So maybe an episode one day. yeah But the question is, how do you train with your spouse, right? Or what's it like training with your spouse? You want to kick us off? Oh, gosh.
01:09:10
Speaker
yeah Well, the thing is, is that AJ and I don't really train together. i mean, ah we do sometimes go for easy runs together, but he's definitely not joining me on strength training days for sure. Yeah. If he does any of those, he does that on his own. Yeah. pre Previous question there was, I hate it. Right. Yes. I'll do it the minimum. Yes. Yes. Um, you know, so we do go for a couple of easy runs together, but for the most part, we're training separately. Um, part of this is because, you know, like we mentioned with our kids, like we need to sort of stagger when we go for our runs. Sure. Um, and then of course for race weekends, we usually do a challenge of some sort. So we will run together for one or two of the races and then we will usually, AJ will try to PR, um, as will I, but you're much faster than I am. So yes, we'll usually try to PR, uh, another race, but yeah, that's, that's really how it goes for us. Yeah, we we do run together at home for two purposes, even though it's not very often, right? um For two purposes. One, to get used to the other person right because I love to chat. yeah But when we've said this before, like my zone two and whatever at a chatting pace or whatever, it's a little bit different than yours where you're like, yeah
01:10:16
Speaker
not wanting to talk because you're having to exert a little more effort than I am sometimes, you know? yeah But then the flip side of that is like, i love to just put my headphones in and go. Like that's my jam yeah when I'm running hard, right? So I have to get used to the idea of, you know what? No, no, no, no. We're taking some walk breaks. So we do practice that. yeah And it's not like a chore to practice it. it's ah it's ah It's a gift to practice that because we love running together. yeah But if we only did it on race day,
01:10:41
Speaker
I might get frustrated. right Or you might be frustrated frustrated with me. And now I think after having now done it for a few years, you can read my body language yep and you can tell when I'm getting antsy yeah or you can tell I'm getting tired and any of that stuff. And vice versa is totally true. like I can see when you're starting to physically fall apart, which means, okay, now I'm going to take it even slower or my encouragement level goes way up. yeah And if we never did that at home,
01:11:07
Speaker
We wouldn't be able. Yeah. Yeah. So I would say if you're different speeds, but you plan to race together at all, it is important to do it. Absolutely. And ah I would say as cheesy as it sounds, treat it like it is a gift of time together. Yeah. Not, well, I've got to do this because we're running together on in the marathon. Right. Right. You know what mean? Yeah. We really, I really do love running with you.
01:11:28
Speaker
I mean, I mean it. I do as well. I'm kind of jealous of the couples that run the same speed and like run together all the time. That sounds really fun to me, but there's no way. Like I will never be as fast as you and you will never want to run as slow as me. So I don't think that's true. You do all that strength training. You're going to, you know, build up that muscle and and catch up to me. Yeah, I don't think so. I'm going to keep trying, but I don't, I don't know. We'll see.
01:11:51
Speaker
Awesome. Anything else on running with your spouse? Any insights? No, I would say if your spouse doesn't run with you, encourage them to do that because a few questions back was that how do you get your spouse to say yes to all the Run Disney races? If they run with you, then that's. Yeah, it's a lot easier to talk a runner into running race. Totally, totally. Yeah, for sure. Um, we treat it sometimes as a date, you know, where it's a really easy excuse to say we got 45 minute exercise is a lot easier sometimes than like, well, our poor kids at home, whatever. And now we're going go to the movies. Like sometimes we just treat it like we need to do it anyway. Yeah. Or if we've had a really hard day with our kids, if they're somewhere else, like our son goes to respite, then we're like, let's go for a run. Like we need to both vent all this out. So correct. And we we do walk a lot too. We do, yeah. That's the other piece is if we're not the same speed, but we still need the movement and the mobility and all that, whatever, then we walk a lot.
01:12:45
Speaker
We do, yep. Okay, perfect. Hopefully that was helpful. I would say treat it like a gift. It really is. Okay, this question, Erica, is not so serious. Okay. Sarah Running Through Life wants to know, would you rather chafe from a race or have huge blisters in multiple places? Oh, my word. Hey, you can't throw would you rathers back at us. yes We ask the would you rathers around here.
01:13:09
Speaker
dang That's really... i don't know what the answer is because I've never had either. I've only had the chafing experience one time, but I don't know if it really counts because what it was was when we ran the marathon and it rained where my backpack was across my back yeah because my shirt was wet and it rubbed for the 26 miles. raw Yeah. And so that was the only, that's the only experience I've ever had with like chafing, but I don't know if that even counts. And that did burn like a mother, like after, like when I like got it wet in the shower or whatever. Yes. Did the blisters say multiple blisters, like in multiple places? I said multiple.
01:13:47

I guess I would take the... Well, if it was in the same spot, if it was my back, I would take the lower back chafe. I imagine, like, <unk>re we're real on this podcast, like thigh chafing is what I'm imagining. Right. That sounds awful. It does. I've never experienced it, but I just can't imagine like a rot dry... So I don't think I'd want that. I guess they made body glide for that though. So like maybe I'd. I mean, they do make it, but I know it doesn't work for everybody. Okay. Blisters sound awful too. Cause then they burst, right?
01:14:16
Speaker
Yeah. Well, potentially, I mean, or they might, you know, yeah. I'm going to go with chafing because she didn't say multiple chafing, right but she said multiple blisters. Okay. So can I, can I go with that? Okay. Okay.
01:14:28
Speaker
Um, How about no? How about none? How about none of the above? Oh, we're out of questions. Oh, seriously? That was the last one. That was the last one. Oh, good. Okay, perfect. We got to end on on chafing. yeah That's perfect. um Okay, those are fun.
01:14:45
Speaker
yeah We didn't really accomplish much. We didn't. Hopefully it answered your questions. I do have one thing that I was going to share, Erica, that I have. i have we did We did a survey. Yeah. We asked and a lot of you responded. Thank you very much for taking the time. If you asked for stickers, we sent them. and yeah i think some of y'all, we ran out and I'm i'm ordering more. So if you submitted your finding your whatever your survey recently like in the last couple of days, then I still owe you stickers. They're on their way. Anyway, I thought I'd share some like not numbers, but like maybe like percentage whatever. So like you and I can talk about it. Right. Because I haven't shared this with you yet. Yeah. But just to kind of like, oh, so, oh, wow. Interesting. That's an interesting fact. Yeah. Maybe you can guess some of them.
01:15:30
Speaker
All right. So, ah well, this one I'm just going to tell you Most of our listeners are run Disney veterans with more than five races under their belt. Wow. Yep. Almost 60% of the people that listen have five races or more having done run That's interesting. Which surprised me a little bit. Yeah. I'm glad. Totally. But it surprised me a little bit. I thought maybe we had way more first timers. Brand new. you know Yeah. Which I'm hoping that the podcast is helpful for both. Yeah.
01:15:58
Speaker
Okay. ah Number one source of how they found our show. 50%, right, was was one way that they found it. Would you want to guess what how most people found our show? Rise and run?
01:16:09
Speaker
It didn't say rise and run, but it said another podcast. Yeah. So we've been we've been fortunate enough to be on a few podcasts you know as guests, and that was like like a highlight of our life. Yes. And so I'm guessing Rise and Run is a huge piece of that because it ties directly, same same content.
01:16:28
Speaker
Yeah. Right. And we love our Rise and Run friends. They're the best. yes they are. I'm to say this. Yeah. I want our listeners to know this in case they ever thought there was like competition between the podcasts. If something were to come between us and Rise and Run, I would shut this podcast down. That is a statement that I believe so much in what they do for the running community that we would be done if it meant maintaining our relationship with them. 100%. You've heard it here.
01:16:54
Speaker
Period. Yeah. Okay. ah Day of the week that people listen. You want to guess what day we release on Wednesdays, right? Most people run on the weekends or whatever. 46% of our listeners, that's the highest day. What day do you think it is?
01:17:07
Speaker
Thursday. Wednesday. Really? Release release day. 46% of people listen, at least those surveyed, listen on Wednesday, 22 on Thursday, 5% on Friday.
01:17:19
Speaker
That is so funny because, um well, we always thought like you may be with people listening when they're running. Although I don't like to listen to podcasts when I run. So I listen music. I need music any music. I think though is we're not in deep dopey training or whatever right now. So I'm curious if we had done this in November. Yeah.
01:17:38
Speaker
If their answer would have been different. Like, no, no, no. I save it for the long run. Right. I don't know. Maybe. Okay. ah What are they doing while they listen? 52% of people said. They're on a run.
01:17:50
Speaker
Really? Yep. Or a walk. And then the second is there they listen in the car, in the work commute, 40%. That's right. don't want to listen to mine in the car. Yeah. All right. Here's a here's one. i gave them options. Episode length. Okay. It's just right. You could select that as an option. It could be longer. It's a little too long. You could shorten it. Those are your three options you could select. I don't think it's too long because ours, I feel like it's pretty short compared to most people's You think so? Okay. I'm always conscious. Like when it pushes over an hour, I always feel like, man, people are giving us a lot of time. Oh, for sure. For sure. I feel like that. yeah But so what do you think they said? So 76% of people said.
01:18:29
Speaker
I think it's just right. That's right. Oh, good. Yeah. Fortunately. Yeah. Awesome. Good. That my question made me nervous. um twenty The remaining said it could be longer.
01:18:42
Speaker
Okay. 0% said it was too long. Well, that's good. Thank goodness. You put yourself out there when you ask these questions. Oh my gosh. Yeah. Yeah. We asked a question. We said, would you be interested in supporting the show in, you know, if we got... show sponsors or if we had like a Patreon, you know, where like you pay five bucks a month or something, but you get something in return. yeah um So 24% of listeners said they would want to do the Patreon model versus us getting like show sponsors or something like that.
01:19:11
Speaker
And we ah we're not necessarily moving any on that or whatever. We're just trying to figure out the future of the show yeah because it costs, right? Like the literal hosting costs and equipment costs and all that. So we're just figuring it out, right? Right. Do you know what they would want and in return? I gave them a list.
01:19:27
Speaker
You what Like benefits. Right, right, right. I gave them a list. So i'll I'll just list a couple. Okay. You tell me what you think was there like, oh, yeah, yeah. That that would be number one. Okay. okay So um live stream of the podcast.
01:19:40
Speaker
contributing to the episodes like through polls or Q&A, like an exclusive after show that only Patreons could get. Behind the scenes content, shout outs on the show, physical items like stickers or bib boards or something like that.
01:19:56
Speaker
What? That one what? that The like stickers and bitboards and stuff. I think that's the one. That is number one. Okay. For sure. Yeah. By a long shot. Okay. 52% of everybody said, oh yeah, if I were paying money, that's the benefit I would want. Right. Which doesn't mean to' be the only benefit. Yeah. Second would be contributing to episodes... Fun. Through ideas or Q&As or polls or something like that. And an exclusive after show is number three.
01:20:21
Speaker
Those are the high percentages that people would want. You know, like um our friends, Rope Drop Radio do that. yeah Where when they're done recording, whatever, they might have the guest on and they go like unfiltered for 10 or 15 minutes. right We did that when we were on their show. yeah yeah We literally were part of their after show. yeah And only their Patreons get it. Oh, that's cool. Anyway, those are the findings of the survey. I'm most encouraged by um the idea that it's not too long yes and that people listen on release day. but you know That means they're very excited to hear it.
01:20:52
Speaker
So anyway, what a random episode. I hope that- This weird, but- I hope it lands okay with y'all. Hopefully y'all liked it. It was it was your questions. yeah Yeah, which it doesn't mean it's your fault. I'm just saying. No, no, no, no. I'm just saying. i hope It's outside of our normal format. So I don't even know how to close the thing. I know, me either. I'm stuck. Yeah. How do how you, you, can you bail me out?
01:21:13
Speaker
No. Can you just. You would normally say something like follow us on Instagram. yes Leave us a review. and It helps with the, ah helps with the algorithm. That's right. ah Knowing now that most of our listeners are not new to run Disney. I would say if you know someone that is new to run Disney, please point them in our direction. Hopefully we can be helpful for them. Nice.
01:21:33
Speaker
And we'll catch you next week for another episode of one more run the podcast. Perfect.
