We are going on a summer break, but didn't want to leave you without any warning. So in this short non-episode, we discuss stray highlights from Simon's notes app, farming content in our own recent lives, and (most excitingly) some Emmerdale celebs that Lizzie has been hanging out with lately!

Introduction and Summer Plans

00:00:00
Speaker
Hello, welcome to sort of Dingle All The Way. i'm Simon. Dingle some of the way. um I'm Lizzie. She's Lizzie. And we're just popping on for a not real episode. We're not going to talk very much about what's been happening in Everdower recently. But um just want to let you know that we're having a little bit of a summer break.

Emmerdale Catch-Up and Storylines

00:00:21
Speaker
Yeah, this is, I think we should call it a non-episode because it's not an episode. um But yeah, we're going to take a little bit of a break, but we will be back with you at some point over the summer.
00:00:32
Speaker
yeah I actually have ended up quite behind on Emeda. You're up to date, aren't you? Literally this moment finished watching today's episode, yeah. Wow, I have just managed to catch up to the beginning of June.
00:00:44
Speaker
So I truly don't know what's happening in the village, which is a shame. You've got so much ahead of you. So much ahead of me. Yet again, we're going to learn that AI is the enemy. say that's something to look forward to. Oh, really? Oh, I can't wait for that. Well, what's just happened in my episode? Well, Cammie delivered the line, I've never been given a caravan before, which kind of felt like we were supposed to see it as sort of emotional and significant, a bit like when a child is like, I've never had a birthday cake before and you realize what their life has been like. It's like, I've never been given a caravan either. Like, I don't think this is a classic coming of age thing. I am pleased for you.
00:01:22
Speaker
Yeah, no, to date, I've yet to be given a caravan myself, nor would I wish to receive one. I mean, truly, where would I put it? So yeah, that's where I'm, that's where I'm up to. But yeah, I mean, we might end up when we come back doing like a sort of quick gloss of major storylines. But i do just want to say,
00:01:41
Speaker
um a we love that cami has story b it was sad that it was resolved within two minutes and c ah or possibly three i can't doing letters on numbers um it was a shame i guess you weren't watching at the same at the time it came out but the episode in which cami was like huddled freezing over a campfire wearing like eight layers was also the peak of the heat wave here i was watching it being like i wish i lived in a barn right now because i'm so hot put me in a drafty barn ASAP I'll eat the beans cold please anything so yeah that was that was sad timing yeah that is um and I just I've made so many notes that i guess I'll delete but um I'm so sorry i didn't I'm just going to share some stray mentions from from them yeah just to tie people over.

Book Launch and Celebrity Encounters

00:02:28
Speaker
One I wrote down, i don't have time for grammar binoculars. You don't have time for grammar at all, so I don't know why the binoculars are making a difference. They really made it worse though somehow. What else have you got here? Clemmie's getting a second pony.
00:02:43
Speaker
That's a note I made. ah And i enjoyed that Lewis referenced the Carry On films. It must be Gabby did. Some 20-year-old referenced the reference to Carry On films. Gabby did. That's the last couple minutes. That's nice. done that's That's as much of a summary as anybody needs, I think. Also, did you notice um Lydia's fish-shaped oven dish thing? Of course I did. Of course I made a note about it. to hear Things that we won't be able to really delve into, but i think probably have said everything we were going to say about it. Yeah, true. And um I also barely recognised Lydia when she was in her like full dancing makeup. I thought she was just a random extra.
00:03:21
Speaker
And then she started talking and I was like, oh, it's Lydia, bless her. nearly started Lydia Watch up again, but it turns out she was there the whole time. She was there behind the blush. Hidden behind Rouge. Speaking of people unrecognisable, every time Archie is on screen, he ages another decade. i don't know you've got to his story now, but he's he's a 48-year-old man now. What's going on there? Yeah, he's just um convinced Kerry to look after him instead of Laurel.
00:03:46
Speaker
And he does okay already look like an old man, which is a nice touch. If anything, he should be looking after her. Respite care in some way. yeah Yeah, I don't know what's going to happen there. But I am sort of watching like episodes on my lunch break at

Canada Trip and Reading Habits

00:04:02
Speaker
the moment. And my colleagues are quite confused. I mean, they're probably just confused by me as a person anyway.
00:04:07
Speaker
so But they are confused by what I'm up to. Shall we talk about your recent adventures? Recent adventures? Yeah. I mean, what have I even been up to? was thinking specifically about Emmerdale. Oh, yeah. So true. I went to... You can tell anything you like.
00:04:22
Speaker
I truly don't want to. No. um I went to a book launch for Bradley Rich's book called Autistically Me, which was in Leeds City Centre.
00:04:34
Speaker
enjoyed hearing about his book and his experiences and he was being interviewed by Lisa Riley who is obviously such a hoot Lisa Riley MBE yeah I saw that crazy um so yeah i met them both and had like a quick chat with them and then I also met Sheb's oh i should have looked up how to say his surname either Maya or Mia I never know um because he was there as well and that was really fun and it turns out he listens to our podcast so hi we love you i couldn't I couldn't believe it. When you sent you sent me a message saying you're like queuing to see him and I was like, okay, cool. And then the next thing I had was a video of Jeffs talking to me and you also there. Thank you. It's nice. I'm such a side note in your line. Immediately being you served. I will say, i so I think I'm still closer to you on balance. Not least because I DMed Shebs and he did not reply. Shebs, Simon David Thomas on Instagram. I'm not i'm not i'm not ashamed to not to call it out. I don't know what the opposite of playing it cool is, but you are... you yeah
00:05:37
Speaker
You're playing it incredibly warm right now. i just, I feel very warm. I just want, i just want to. him I just want to be loved. But he does. He, like well, he clearly, he said such lovely things and you had a lovely photo together. And um what a treat that he knows who we are.

Technical Issues and Personal Insights

00:05:55
Speaker
Yeah, it is wild. um So yeah, that was super fun. had a nice evening. Yeah, and here I might just drop in the little clip you had with Lisa Riley because she referenced that. Oh yeah. Or here's Lisa Riley talking about Dingle The Way in a manner that she doesn't really know what she's talking about.
00:06:16
Speaker
So listen, if you're listening to Dingle All The Way, i'm the oldest female dingle, right? So let's all dingle all the way, shall we? Because it sounds like a damn good thing to do. Keep dingling.
00:06:28
Speaker
It was baffling, I think, to both me and her that we had met. um she She seemed very confused by the concept of the podcast and I just thought, yeah, I get that it's a weird one. I do think on the Venn diagram of people who are at all interested slash involved in Emberdale and people who listen to podcasts.
00:06:49
Speaker
I just don't think there are that many people in the middle. that's fine. We've just found shabs. Yeah, it's just shabs and us against the world. um Yeah, fun times, hey. And um Waterstones had some great lighting. We enjoyed the fact that we took a selfie we were like nice lights.
00:07:06
Speaker
Great. Well, thrilled for Waterstones. And you got a copy of the book? I did get a copy of the book. It looks very informative, I must admit. i have skim read one chapter during the event.
00:07:18
Speaker
and not particularly looked at since, but it is on my list. i am I'm meeting up with some uni friends in two weeks time. and One of them lent me a book six months ago, and I haven't read it. And I'm like, really trying to lock into reading it. and i know that you read probably multiple books every week.
00:07:38
Speaker
but I'm not like you. and i like did i did read a book a day in May. Hashtag a book a day in May. I can't believe you. You're so clever. I mean, you can read. I know I can read. i just, I'm literally, I write for a living. i just don't do it that much.
00:08:01
Speaker
I read 10 books in my 12-day holiday to Canada, but most of those were on planes. yeah um Yeah. Do you want to tell us any highlights from Canada? Well, it was great that I could watch Emmerdale on my phone. so thank Thank goodness Emmerdale's on YouTube. I did not manage to persuade my brother to watch any of Emmerdale. That's so fair from him.
00:08:21
Speaker
Yeah, I guess so. And I guess we recently had a reference to Nicol who lives in Canada. So i bumped into Nicol somewhere. Yeah, I'm sure you did. the fictional character Nico, I love Nico and Jenny.
00:08:35
Speaker
R.O.P. um That's the Canada tie in Primerdale, I guess.

Rural Life Mishaps and Reflections

00:08:39
Speaker
Other highlights, Banff, it's beautiful. Vancouver, it's beautiful. Calgary, it's fine. There we go. Yeah, yeah I thought you said Calgary was trash.
00:08:46
Speaker
um I'm trying to play it nice for the podcast in case you haven't seen Calgary.
00:08:52
Speaker
I cast my mind to Calgary and I wish I didn't. and There are bits of it lovely. Kensington area, really nice. Prince Island Park, beautiful.
00:09:02
Speaker
um on balance, I shouldn't necessarily bother going to Calgary. That's my summation. in that's ni kid I didn't know which part Canada is Nichols Inn. Brenda was always just popping to Canada broadly. Yeah.
00:09:14
Speaker
I mean, I feel like people would probably say the same about Leeds. Were they to visit from Canada? Yeah, I don't think anyone's ever done that, suppose. Yeah, but you do live in a nice part of the world, so maybe the contrast hits different. People come to Oxford from Canada, it's true.
00:09:29
Speaker
Well done, you. i've just realised that my ah light's on amber, but let's hope that all is well. Oh yeah, mine is on orange, and I actually don't have any wobbly lines where my voice should be. Do you think any of this is recorded?
00:09:42
Speaker
honestly who knows oh should we just like end it and then check okay we're back which i guess you never thought that that didn't work at the first time anyway because you just listened to the first nine minutes or however it was but um we sorted out our technical issues we've sorted out our relational issues offline yeah they were surprisingly like we've actually been away for 48 hours on essentially a couple's would retreat but um we're back that would be so distressing very exciting if you just got there and be like you're not a couple or why why why have you done this um i'm going away on a long weekend with um two friends down to wiltshire at the end of the month because you know how i always go hitchhiking with um v and philip
00:10:32
Speaker
hmm we just decided not to we were like we're not going to do that we're just going to actually have a holiday which feels like character growth i'm so proud of you that is that is development it's character growth that we've never seen in like cane for example he wouldn't dare not go hitchhiking yeah we just were like we're all quite tired and burnt out and v has concussion from falling off these uh falling off philip's shoulders and we were like let's just go on holiday instead I realise we're wandering so far from Emmerdale, but can I tell you how I'm into myself today? Please, I'd love to hear that. And I think everybody else who listens to this podcast would.
00:11:10
Speaker
it It really is like a sort of, should he be living alone situation. but um, so...

Emmerdale Storyline Critique

00:11:16
Speaker
back when i started actually launch in there's a baking tray that i stick in my window cooling rack rather that i stick in my window no cooling rack as i was saying stick in my window to stop hargreaves my cat jumping out of the window but i accidentally threw it out the window at which point it landed in like the climbing roses that my downstairs neighbor has on her wall
00:11:40
Speaker
So I went and got like a gardening stick whatever that I used to from a clematist, not euphemism, and lent out the window. i stood on a chair, lent out the window, like managed to pull it back in from the tra climbing raises. But then, because there was a cushion on the chair that I'd not removed, slipped on that and just fell over completely backwards onto the coffee table on my bed.
00:12:03
Speaker
No! And at one point i was like, have I broken my spine? But as it happens, i was fine. I've got an enormous fruit bowl that would normally have been right, like a porcelain fruit bowl that would normally have been right in the way. But thankfully, for some reason, I'd moved it.
00:12:14
Speaker
Wow. The Lord preserved me. The Lord preserved the fruit bowl, I think you'll find. I did pay five pounds for that from a charity shop. I'm trying to think if anywhere can link that to Emmerdale. People are always falling off stuff in Emmerdale. Yeah, people do love to fall out of windows slash be thrown out of windows. Yeah.
00:12:31
Speaker
Yeah, I will say that as I had all my window inches, I did not manage to rip the wooden casing of the window from from its place like Dawn managed to do with the dental shelf. That was impressive of her. um Gosh, I mean, imagine if you'd fallen out of the window or broken your back on your own coffee table and you do live alone. So how not to you know put too much fear into your soul, but like how long would you have been lying there before anybody knew? Do you think that's something I need to hear right now? I'm so sorry. Obviously it's not.
00:13:05
Speaker
And obviously also Barbara downstairs would be like, what earth is that noise? Yeah, i did message her being like, I'm so sorry for the loud crash. And she was like, oh, I thought it was Chris who lives in a different building. um So... How loud is Chris? What is Chris doing in a different building that's loud enough to sound like you falling onto your coffee table above He does love to like soar, but it's not really the same sound.
00:13:28
Speaker
Gosh. Yeah, rural life, am I right? um Is that rural? It's only happened in a rural context.
00:13:39
Speaker
As do so many things in Emmerdale, and there's the link. There's the link. I'm just going to through my notes see there's anything else want attention to. I really enjoyed Gabby saying hello, idiot, to Ross whilst trying to seduce him. I you got to that yet. Oh, yeah. Well, I think that was when she was having like a practice session with Lewis.
00:13:56
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Okay, that's right. She was giving little role play with Ross's brother for some reason. Yeah, and I was thinking as well, like she decided to meet up with Lewis to try and work out how to seduce Ross. And A, on one level, brother, bit weird. But B, on another level, Lewis has only known him for sort of like a year or something. like That's true. Why do you think that he's the best person to give advice?
00:14:18
Speaker
and I've also written down Lydia Cami dancing, which was very sweet. oh I can't wait to see that. Yeah. I think they're two favorite people in the whole world. I did think of you as like, no. Yeah, it's been like purpose made for you.

Summer Plans and Emmerdale Experiences

00:14:33
Speaker
And broadly, my thoughts at the moment on Emmerdale are like, why was why was the homelessness story so short? We've learned that homelessness can be resolved instantly if a loved one gives you a caravan. There are no societal issues other than the lack of caravans. Caravans for all.
00:14:50
Speaker
We've got so some lovely acting and she's in serious mode about his family, which is very intriguing. So there might be some more more to come there. But... But I've had this big like storyline with Charity, a big one with Kane, which is both very traumatic. But I've been thinking, like we get so many Kane Charity storylines. Why couldn't like Jimmy have had to the cancer storyline? Why couldn't Manpreet have had the assault so storyline? That would have made me happen.
00:15:13
Speaker
Yeah, true. We have had a lot of Cain and charity content recently. You know I want Manpreet to be the centre of the show. i know you do, and I'm so sorry that that just doesn't seem like it's happening particularly, but maybe you should start like a petition or something. If you get enough signatures, they have to discuss it in the House of Commons.
00:15:29
Speaker
Yeah, i I don't think we have 100,000 listeners yet, but um maybe this non-episode will be the one that really tips the balance. I hate how low your expectations are of this, okay? It's disgusting to me. Do you think Rebecca Sarko will appreciate it if I'm just like, give this woman more work? Take it take it take it to the house of Carmen. Yeah, maybe she's just like, I'm actually really happy with my work-life balance right now, can you not? And then Keir Starmer's weighing Keir Starmer's like, you have to have an assault storyline, I'm so sorry. It's what the people want.
00:16:04
Speaker
In his final days as Prime Minister, he's really going to make some lasting change. It's a lovely parting shot.
00:16:13
Speaker
Oh, dear. Well, it's a lovely option. Something consider. Certainly. So, yeah, I guess we can, like, with we're we're sorry not to be here for a while, but we're looking forward to coming back. We'll be doing the tour in July, so we'll have some intel on that, either before after we go.

Farming Content and Farewell

00:16:28
Speaker
um And, of course, now Lizzie's hobnobbing with all the cast. Well, you've now seen slash met. five six cast members six cast members i think so you're like you're ticking them all off i don't really think we can count ones like um ned porteous where you saw him in the street i saw him in the street and i was sending you a voice note about him at the very moment that he walked past me don't think that means that i know the man Well, no, I have cast eyes on it. I've not even seen cast member at a distance. That's not true. I've seen two ex-cast members on stage. So there you go. Dan and Carl. So there you go. They were both in place. Dan was in a very, I would say, mediocre production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. And Carl was in a very good production of Street.
00:17:15
Speaker
oh lovely oh and Sian Rhys Williams who played lovely Jenny I saw her in a brilliant production of Lungs it's one of the best things I've ever seen you're saying so many names of people and shows that I have no idea what you're talking about but umm I'm really pleased for you thank you um thank you thanks you're welcome should we just sort of end whatever this has been there have to say I saw had some farming content in my own life today i went for a walk and saw some piglets it was great Oh, that's so nice. Oh, I've got farming content in my own life. My housemate Anna, who works on a farm, has gone and bought some piglets today. i know.
00:17:54
Speaker
she took For personal use? um Well, she like petitioned the people who own the farm to be like, if I do all the research on how to keep pigs and I'm entirely responsible for them, please, can we start having pigs?
00:18:07
Speaker
And they were like, obviously not. And then a year later, they actually read the proposal that she'd written and they were like, oh, yeah, this does make sense. Yeah, sure, let's it. So she went and got pigs. But she is really gutted because she um the the like defender that they've had at the farm for like years and years failed its MOT and so they got rid of it. And they bought this really ugly like orange Isuzu pickup.
00:18:31
Speaker
And night she was just like, in the farming community, this is like so dead. Her exact words were, I can't be seen at the abattoir in that. LAUGHTER oh my lord which is so nice yeah just different worlds but it's nice that we both got our own farming content it's very nice that pigs are featuring heavily in our lives yeah so true well guys we're sorry for whatever this was um i would like to formally apologize that you've had to listen to whatever we just did And do check us, you know, get in touch at dinglealltheway.pod at gmod.com in the interim. um And we, this is not a goodbye forever. We will be back. Yeah. And we do have an Instagram, but i will remind you that it's a lovely place to do a digital detox because I never put anything on there or check any of the messages. Yeah. If you really want to get away from it all, that's the place to go. Then you should follow us.
00:19:22
Speaker
um Bye then. Take care. easy you See you soon sometime. if Wow. Did you just have a stroke? On camera. but I'm so glad this isn't a visual medium. Look at me.
00:19:35
Speaker
Anyway, bye everybody. Bye.
