Introduction & Episode Focus

00:00:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Daily Newcastle. I'm talking on July the 2nd, this is out on July the 3rd and it's Ian Mackay here hosting myself.
00:00:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Yet another solo pod for me, ah apparently scheduled for me just to be solo tonight which I didn't know until very recently.

Impact of Jao Pedro's Transfer

00:00:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, ah but that's fine, there is quite a bit to talk about in terms of the wider transfer window and also Newcastle's pursuit of existing targets and perhaps perhaps the pursuit of some new targets so we'll get stuck right into that.
00:00:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Jao Pedro of course already on the plane to America probably already there in training ready for his first game in the club world cup Chelsea he will be warming the bench alongside Nicholas Jackson and Rory De Lappe when he Moresca put some other person to play up front.
00:01:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Who cares? He's gone. I don't care. There might well be, though, an immediate consequence in terms of the Newcastle squad.
00:01:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because when the Jao Pedro offer was out there, and we had high hopes, I'm sure, signing him, Callum Wilson came off the list of Newcastle United squad players on the website.

Callum Wilson's Role & Contract

00:01:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
um We then obviously had to sit and watch on Sunday while Kelty spent a 5 hours what we took five weeks not to do as they signed Joe Pedro up.
00:01:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I noticed that on the Newcastle United squad players there's a brand new shiny picture of Callum Wilson that has come back into the squad list as number nine in the squad wearing his 2526 Newcastle home shirt.
00:02:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, I don't think Callum Wilson gets there all togged out in the new kit and has his photograph taken and gets put back onto the website if they haven't actually or they aren't actually going to renew his contract.
00:02:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
And if they're going to renew his contract, I suspect that means that there's no 60 million, Piao Pedro or anybody else new forward coming in to support Alex Izak, I think that's going to be Callum Wilson.
00:02:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And you know, if Callum Wilson gets into the close season and stays injury free and gets back to even 90% of the sharpness he had two years ago, then he'll be a good backup.
00:02:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah It's not very exciting. And it's a risk because we watched all of last year him not be able to get anywhere close to 90% of his sharpness from two years ago.
00:03:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:03:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
the other consequence of that and I'm hoping it's not the case is that Wilson back in the score maybe being thirty first which could restrict the number of minutes that we see our new hero in waiting William O'Suller to play I have really enjoyed the cameos we saw last year.

William O'Suller's Potential

00:03:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
think he's got something. He's certainly super powerful, super strong. It's no good saying he's raw year after year. ah He must be improving all of the time.
00:03:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
um If we have any faith in the ability of our coaches to improve players, and I think we do. And he's looked really good in that under-21 championship, playing for Denmark, scoring some goals, laying on some assists.
00:03:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
It certainly looks like he He would be an exciting man to come on after half an hour. Sorry, after his half an hour left if Izak needed a bit of a break.
00:04:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But I think we'll have Callum Wilson sitting on the bench to use from as well next year. That's just my hunt.

Transfer Strategy Discussion

00:04:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Saves us quite a lot of money in the striker market and maybe we could divert that to a right winger or a centre half, which I think we're all... um in agreement are the two areas which you really do need to strengthen this transfer window.
00:04:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maybe I'm just making assumptions there. If you don't agree with me and you think there's some other areas that should be prioritised, please leave us a message in the comments below. And we're more than happy to discuss that later this week.

James Trafford Transfer Delay

00:04:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:04:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
No news on James Trafford.
00:04:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
or waiting for news on James Trafford. That deal was supposedly done ages ago. We're now we well into jump into July. I don't know if people are on holiday. What the hold up there is.
00:04:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Pay Burnley what they want and sign it and move on. Can't have another saga on the job that was completed this time last year. That sounds ridiculous.
00:05:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
But anyway, not a sniff of any news on that have I been able to find today. um Maybe they're starting it up for the weekend announcement, who knows?

Signing Anthony Alanga Complexity

00:05:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
and The other guy that we are obviously well after is Anthony Alanga.
00:05:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think losing Gael Pedro has meant that we've been able to go back to Forest with an improved bid. I think the improved bid is reported as 50 million plus some add-ons.
00:05:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, I'm certainly not a Nottingham Forest fan or in the know or have any friends who are Nottingham Forest fans, but I know that they want at least 60 million for him.
00:05:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
So again, why don't we just pay that 60 million and get a player in. The Langer and Trafford could be signed and in the squad ready for the kickoff of pre-season training next Monday.
00:05:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
All well and good. and Again, but really don't want a long drawn out saga over this one. Pay them the money. It does seem as if the Langer is quite interested.
00:06:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
um He's certainly popping up on and Lots of Newcastle players, social media, agent Asula has been dancing with him, apparently, on TikTok. And um we saw Alanga asking why he hadn't been invited a few months ago when Asula was hosting Izak and others for some meal.
00:06:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
um If Alanga wants to come and we want to pay $55,000 and Forrest wants $60,000, why are we not just pay $60,000 and make him come? Let's not wait another two or three weeks.
00:06:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that's invaluable ah time to get prepared for the new season. News today, of course, that Aston Villa are also interested in Anthony Alanga.
00:06:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, that's what's reported. That could be true. It could also be that Alanga or Forrest or somebody is trying to generate some sort of excitement to push Alanga's price up.
00:07:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maybe to put a bit of urgency behind Newcastle's offer. um i say I'm spooked by it. Come on, get the money in. Pay the 60 million they want. Let's find him. I think he'd be a great addition.
00:07:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
He certainly is an improvement on the sake of Murphy, I think. And his figures last year in the Premier League show that Murphy's figures were brilliant, and but Alanga's figures were also brilliant.
00:07:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
and That is strength down the right. 90 minutes every game if we have those two, I think. Sign him up. I'm going to pause there.
00:07:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
think I'm going pause there, because that's our um but the players that we've been going after for ages. I'm going pause there and play the Bionic advert, come back with some new targets, reportedly new targets.
00:08:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
particularly at the center half position.

Newcastle's Defensive Targets

00:08:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
marvellous stuff thanks ken for that into part two uh just uh sticking actually first of all with the right wing is it right wing is it right midfield is it right attacker um the evening chronicle and i think they're just regurgitating what they saw on give me sport um by reporting that newcastle are seriously considering a 45 million bid for harvey elliott from liverpool um which of course but something that we flagged up last week would be a great move when we'd seen how wonderful he was in that Euro Under-21 Championship.
00:09:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'd like Harvey Elliott. and I think he's still got a lot of stealing to wreak. I think he's already good enough to take his place in Liverpool's first team. Why not?
00:09:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
£45 million sounds a good price. um I think get a Lange and also could bring Harvey Elliott in would give us it something in the attacking sense as well.
00:09:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
don't think it necessarily has to be an either or if we're looking at a midfielder as well. But I'll note that we were ahead of the curve in asking for that one, which is lovely.
00:10:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've watched it here. The Chronicle reporting Gimmie Sports, who were always a bit dodgy. We'll have to see that reported elsewhere. A far more believable report comes from Craig Hope in the mail initially, ah saying that we are considering a £35 million bid for Leonardo Ballerdi, an Argentinian centre-back from Marseille,
00:10:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
who's 26, who was so bad when he first joined Marseille from Dortmund, that he had one fan on hunger strike demanding that he leave the club.
00:10:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he had a couple of red cards, including one in his first game against PSG. But he anyway, he's got that Argentinian grit that we would probably remember from Colachini.
00:11:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
So not something that we're unfamiliar with here at Newcastle. But he's played quite a lot for Marseille now, including in the Champions League. Price tag, apparently £35 million.
00:11:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
a fair half-price alternative to Mark Gehie, I guess. Which, erm... I understand. Gehie only wants to move to Liverpool. He doesn't want to go anywhere else.
00:11:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
That would explain why he said no to Newcastle 187 times Erm, or was at Crystal Palace, because of the price of... Who knows? Er, anyway.
00:11:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Leonardo Belurdi sounds like a, erm... a legitimate target it's certainly covering a position that we are short of um and at 35 million it would certainly be worth pursuing in addition to that uh i have read that we are back looking at someone who i heard of maybe two years ago maybe when we were signing fenn bottom on we were looking at this chap a guy called uh edmund tap sober who's 26. uh edmund tap sober With a name like Tapsoba, he should be another goalkeeper, shouldn't he?
00:12:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Tapsoba the bar. um He's a Burkina Faso international. He's going to cost the around about £42 million. He's another centre-back, currently with Bayer Leverkusen.
00:12:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
and If he's with Bayer Leverkusen, he's going have plenty of Champions League experience. He's playing in it one of the big leagues. Why not? If that's us as well.
00:12:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that came from... um Who first reported that? Not Europe. Correct members. Sorry, I can't give a talk to that. I don't like doing that. um My bad.
00:12:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
But there's two centre-backs there that apparently we are considering. They're finally looking over to Europe rather than trying to pay the yeah Premier League premium that there would be on any centre-back out of the Premier League. um One centre-back who we won't be going after, and we've vaguely been linked with it because people assume we're going to move,
00:13:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
playing for Everton as he was, and England, Jared Branswaite, has signed a new five-year deal with Everton. So he's not going anywhere. And I think that might disappoint Manchester United. It might disappoint Chelsea.
00:13:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Does it disappoint Newcastle? Probably not. I don't think we were in for them. We definitely have been in for Gehi. He definitely looks like he only wants to go to Liverpool and therefore it's right that we're opening up investigations over in Europe for better heart.
00:13:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, whether that works or not, I'm not sure.

Transfer Market Update & Conclusion

00:13:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
um There's not loads else, to be fair, happening in the wider transfer market.
00:14:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
or for Newcastle. So I just hope you've enjoyed that little update. It's a bit of a contractual obligation Thursday morning podcast, which I wasn't aware I was doing until very recently.
00:14:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I found a little bit of need put out there, which is quite interesting. um Fingers crossed the Alanga deal gets shifted on and we start seeing something moving. um With Joe Pedro out the way, does that mean that Callum Wilson's back? It may do.
00:14:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
it may do and fingers crossed for a longer and let's see what we do on ah on Europe if we're going after some centre backs my name is Beanie Mckay thank you very much indeed for listening that's all I'm going to do those NCAS for advert tonight it's too late and we will be back tomorrow with another pod
