From a makeshift recording studio in Brooklyn, welcome to The Grocery Stick with Jessica and Francis. Shut the front door. That is not what we agreed upon. Francis and Jessica. Meh, ignore that.
00:00:13
Speaker
We're Brooklynites and friends. We're here to talk, laugh, commiserate, and argue about all things travel sports-related, kid-related, and plain old life-related. It's Francis and Jessica, or I quit.

Catch-up and Foster Dog Stories

00:00:29
Speaker
if we counting properly. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's 43. I don't know. I lost count. that We didn't record last week. So 43 counting. not recording We've had a late start to our morning because of your dog issues.
00:00:46
Speaker
Yeah. and Wait, hold on a second. yeah What are we now at? Are we at week... um according we told what We were at week 12 with the dog, of the foster. Now you're at week 15. we're at week like 15. Next, yeah, yeah, yeah. The seventh will be like the four months. Okay.
00:01:08
Speaker
What's the update, lady?
00:01:11
Speaker
Just couldn't get them off the couch this morning. You know, they're normally like you say, go out and they're like, woohoo. yeah But this morning, the little one looked at me like, go fuck yourself. And when he gives you that look, it's like, huh? Because it's cold outside?
00:01:30
Speaker
Yeah. Well, he hates the cold. and And so also he doesn't like the rain, but he can't tell whether or not it's raining unless I take him outside. Right. Cause they don't know. Yeah. So every the past couple of days, every time I opened the door, he just stands there.
00:01:45
Speaker
He looks outside and then he looks up at me with this face. Like, are you kidding? And so half the time what happens is I take him out. We get to the front. Yeah. Maybe two houses down. Yeah. He pees one of the posts, you know, like one of the post signs. Yeah.
00:01:59
Speaker
He pees on one of the posts and then like makes a beeline to come back into the house. Like he hates the rain. Oh my God. So this morning, you know, I think it's become such a, an ingrained issue when I said, all right, come on, let's go pee.
00:02:14
Speaker
He kind of looked at me and he was like, you can't get me this time, lady. but what is this the He's like, nope, not going. Had a really bad life. Yeah. rescued him Yeah. And in 15 weeks.
00:02:26
Speaker
Yeah. You've made him soft. Yeah.
00:02:30
Speaker
um so i would argue that i would argue that nobody would want to be around him if i didn't make him soft that's that would be my argument and i would i would say that you know what he's actually not soft here's what happened the other day so the other day um my son's here with two friends yeah right and they're big guys they're all six feet tall or whatever or taller and they're both they're all wearing two out of three are wearing baseball hats okay And then my son puts on his baseball hat. They're going to play golf, which I thought was a stupid move in the first place because it just wasn't that warm. You know, they got romanticized by the sun. Yeah.
00:03:08
Speaker
Yeah. And they were soggy still. So they were, you know, they were hell bent, whatever. yeah And so I hadn't seen my son in like five days because he's been, you know, rolling around, taking care of business, of doing what he's doing. Sure. Yeah.
00:03:24
Speaker
and So he says to me, he's like, oh, hi, mama. And so he like reaches out to like hug me with one arm. Yeah. And the little dog gets all sorts of protective and he lets out this big bark. Yeah. And he jumps up and he punches my son like in the legs to keep him away from me. Like just like, oh, Jesus. Yeah. But all of us looked at each other. We were like, what the fuck was that?
00:03:49
Speaker
but yeah he like he stood between i he wasn't angry i said and and didn't have the power playing up didn't wouldnt wouldn't pack a punch i just said soft as if like oh it's raining i don't know but he's always been soft about the weather dude he got here from you know like from where he used to be he was just like oh my god he was like oh my god why am i here five degrees out he's like no way i'm done yeah You know, he's he's ah he's a couch potato. he's We call him the sun pig.
00:04:15
Speaker
Join the club, kid. Like, everybody here is tired of winter and it still won't go away. I hate it so much. I really do.

Travel Plans to Montreal

00:04:23
Speaker
i think when I go to Montreal next week, it's going to be like zero degrees Celsius. So it's still it like low 30s. Is that an elective trip that you're making? Or is it a business thing? My god sister, who is our only fan. Or maybe one of two fans we have. At least there are fans. Who listens religiously. And she...
00:04:39
Speaker
will text me after every episode, every weekly episode and go, hey, blah, blah, blah, blah. She is going there with some friends. Oh, you're meeting them there. Tagging along. Right.
00:04:50
Speaker
Right, right, right. I'm just there for two days. It's like. nate didn't you go so Why didn't you guys go somewhere warm? uh hey no i'm listen she's going to montreal it's supposed to be warm i don't know with some actually some friends from new jersey who are driving up and they have a dog they're they're driving because they're taking their dog okay you're just further proving my point and yeah you're driving the wrong direction well i think they're going to quebec city first and then montreal i was like listen i'll join you for montreal for two days and hop down and have a couple of good meals some fried chicken and bubble tea in montreal You're so funny with the fried chicken and the bubble tea. Now the kids are back at school from spring break.
00:05:23
Speaker
I got some a couple days to kill. Why not? How many times did you go out for fried chicken and bubble tea you when the kids were home? ah Actually, none. I know. What? It's very sad. Not once. I'm battling the oatmeal and the raisin bran every morning. funny. I'm trying to do this. I haven't had it this morning yet, so I'm like, it's going lunch, I guess. You're just glutton for punishment. You just put yourself in a position where you have unenjoyable foods. um I'm trying hard to... to to You can get oats in so many other iterations than like plain shitty watered-down oatmeal. here okay
00:05:58
Speaker
But here's the thing, right? I'm trying to exercise. I don't do enough, clearly. Same. I don't either right now. But the winter is definitely part of that. Sure. And I'm like always, okay, I'll go lift weights and whatever else. Okay. And then I'm on the oatmeal. But you have a gym in your building.
00:06:12
Speaker
i know. So no excuses, right? Not for you. And then, and then, and then,
00:06:19
Speaker
I am literally starving myself. Like I'm not eating sandwiches, which I love, not eating pizza. I did that one time at Lucali because of Evan, right?
00:06:31
Speaker
And, and eating salad, cold salads with no dressing. No dressing. No dressing. Why? hessica Why? maybe Every last calorie. i can up be All this stuff. Right. And you and I have to have a meeting off this podcast. Nothing has happened. I get the scale.
00:06:47
Speaker
no and nothing hasha i get the scale Nothing has happened, right? Well, then you need to change something. i go You're doing things off. Maybe you're starving yourself and your body's hanging on to whatever weight it has. So I haven't gone, obviously, as we know from the earlier episodes, my- June. We're waiting for june june like June. But I've been through this before, like a year ago. And the dog, I was like, doc, I'm doing all this stuff and nothing's happening.
00:07:14
Speaker
And she says, well, just think about what you would weigh if you didn't do this stuff. Nice. Like, thanks, doc. Nice. i but Okay.
00:07:25
Speaker
So, yeah so yes. Anyway, so, and so no. And have anything and so probably a couple of days of, of overeating in Montreal just before Easter weekend. You want to know a good trick? Yeah.
00:07:39
Speaker
Drink a whole glass of water before you eat. Oh yeah. Yeah. Well, the oatmeal does get people. Yeah, but you just eat, I mean, like at a regular meal, like if you're out to dinner, you just tend to eat less.
00:07:49
Speaker
Yeah. So like you can order something that's a little bit more indulgent, but if you drink a whole glass of water before you sit down to eat it, you just eat less. Yeah, I don't, like I'm not the kind of person. And you hydrate.
00:08:01
Speaker
Yeah, last five, seven years, but I'm already down to, I don't eat. You see me. I don't eat huge meals. I can't. know I just, but I snack. I'm like a grazer. I snack all day. And that's probably the issue. like I'm snacking.
00:08:14
Speaker
in between meals all day, like little bits here and there. And then I think the the thing that really gets me is that because I don't sleep till 1am, I'm definitely, and and if we eat early, I'm definitely hungry at like 11.
00:08:28
Speaker
Yeah, it's the night eating actually. So I'm trying to eat fruit, right? Snack on vegetables and shit. I don't know. Anyways, I'm just old. Yeah, I think Madonna was the one who said that she never eats anything after eight p m Oh, yeah.
00:08:41
Speaker
I mean, Tom Brady. He eats dessert first, he says. find it hard to believe eats dessert at all. He eats dessert first because he says that he's in no sugar in the body after 6 p.m.
00:08:54
Speaker
Yeah, no Mr. No Nightshade Vegetables. I doubt it. Seriously. So he eats dessert first because that then he didn't get to the 6 p.m. deadline and then he eats the rest of his dinner. But I can see him doing that because he's that crazy.
00:09:06
Speaker
He is bananas. Mm-hmm. He's no tomatoes, no eggplant, no like, nothing that grows at night. Right. So weird. awesome so No nightshades. Okay. Okay. Okay. So, so wasn't, okay.
00:09:20
Speaker
So I was mistaken. you didn't have any real dog problem. you just had a lazy dog problem. I had lazy dog problem. And then, you know, and then the thing is, is when I get Mojo out of the house. Yep. He's not quick. Like, at least the other one is fast. Like, take him around the corner. The other one is Caesar? Yeah, Caesar.
00:09:35
Speaker
Caesar, Mojo. Yeah, take him around the corner. He pees and he poops right away, and it's easy. Mojo... And joe love from the rescue organization still.
00:09:45
Speaker
No. a So let's change the subject. okay i I don't need to feel berated. No, no, I'm not going to. I just wanted to point that went that out. And we're moving on. We are moving on. We're not talking about this anymore.
00:10:01
Speaker
Instead of this being an old Chinese uncle complaining, this is old Jewish lady complaining. Yeah. I'm not complaining though. eating It's just fact. Okay. Well, you have another airline story for

Flight Complications and Spring Break

00:10:11
Speaker
us. Oh my God. This would be complaining. Yeah. Oh my God. And I'll give you one guess as to who the airline was. is My favorite airline. Delta. I feel bad. That's really, that's brutal. So.
00:10:22
Speaker
Oh my God. Recount the story for our people. this is i So my daughter who's 15 is having some girl drama.
00:10:33
Speaker
here in New York. And it's been you know going on for a while. um It's really only one person, but it's impactful enough that it you know she felt like she needed to get away and go see her three best friends yeah that live in Florida.
00:10:50
Speaker
Two of them live in Tampa. One of them lives in Miami. Tampa's great. Love Tampa. The friend in Miami goes and buys four Zach Bryan tickets yeah for the show in Tampa in March. now This is like months ago. She's like, oh, I bought tickets, whatever.
00:11:06
Speaker
And, you know, like 15-year-old girls can't plan anything. Wait, who's the guy again? Zach Bryan. i don't know. Yeah, you do. You probably do. Why? um Because his music is is like, you know what, it's piped in stores. It's just everywhere. So if you heard, you know, some of the stuff. Right here on Yeah, probably, actually. Okay. Yeah, he's like he's like one of those, like, country guys who's crossed over. He's a little bit more mainstream.
00:11:31
Speaker
um He also had like ah some drama with his ex-girlfriend. like He like hit her or some shit like that. oh, nice. Yeah, he's like an ex-military guy, i think. Not that I want to spread rumors. And most recently, what did he buy most recently?
00:11:50
Speaker
don't know. No, it's like ah the first edition scroll of… Oh, okay. It's not Cormac McCarthy on the road. That wouldn't make any sense.
00:12:02
Speaker
Anyways. Okay. Anyway, we'll figure it out. out the tempa So, you know, last minute she's finally, you know, they're like trying to plan. They're doing a crappy job. And I finally get in touch with one of the moms who's like, oh, she's come down here. She'll fly down. We'll pick her up. We'll drop her off. She'll stay with us for the weekend. I'm like, this is great.
00:12:21
Speaker
She calls me back. Shortly after and says, I don't know how I screwed this up, but we're leaving for spring break on that Saturday morning. oops So, you know, I got to sell the ticket that we bought, you know, our ticket. i'm going to sell it, whatever. I'm like, okay.
00:12:37
Speaker
So she gives me one of the other, the other girls parents phone number in Tampa, but I've never met them. Like, I don't know them. I don't know the family. I barely know the girl. I know the other family much better.
00:12:49
Speaker
And the one in Miami, I know better. Um, so, you know, we get on the phone, you know, we texting, whatever. And as it turns out, you know, i get a little bit uncomfortable because now I feel like I'm sending her down to people that I've never met. Like it just felt like, and they're all summer camp friends.
00:13:08
Speaker
They are all summer camp runs. Okay. So they spend three weeks together, you know, every summer for the past like five years, yeah yeah which is great. They talk all year long. It's awesome. You know, when at drop off or pickup, when you, if you miss the parents, like you literally never. right. you went Yeah. Yeah. Right.
00:13:23
Speaker
Yeah, you never meet them because it's Florida, right? And the camp is in Pennsylvania. So we drive, they fly, they're in and out, whatever. So I've never met these other people. ok um And then, you know, I was like, okay, I'll send her, whatever. This was when the first family. Yeah.
00:13:40
Speaker
When the second family came into play, you know, I think she got a little less comfortable yeah flying by herself. And I think I got a little less comfortable sending her for a weekend sure to people that I've never met.
00:13:52
Speaker
Well, especially with all the shit that's going on in the TSA. like Right. You know, government shutdown, you know, like all this stuff. Like it just felt like, it felt like, it sort of felt like an imposition for me to be like, hey, here's my kid's flight. You monitor it and you deal with it as needed. Right. I was just like, yeah. Yeah, yeah. That'd be nice. Yeah, yeah. understand. So I...
00:14:13
Speaker
so i through conversation, we decide that I'm going to go with her for the weekend. Okay. Travel back and forth and then, know, I'll drop her off and I'll just spend... Did mother-daughter bonding time? No, not even because I dropped her off to spend the weekend at their place. It just, you know, me being seven minutes away versus being, you know, three-hour flight away is a very different scenario.
00:14:36
Speaker
And down in Florida, all of her friends drive, which was the other thing. And I was like, that's right maybe not so much. I hear you. So we have like a to a three o'clock flight on that Friday. yeah She comes home early from school. We get our shit together.
00:14:55
Speaker
i get no notifications of anything. As far as I know, everything is running on time. yeah

Tampa Trip and Artistic Explorations

00:15:00
Speaker
We go to the airport. Delay, delay, delay. I'm like furious. We don't leave until like eight o'clock. 7.30 maybe.
00:15:11
Speaker
Yeah. So I don't land there, pick up my rental car, get her to her friend's house until 11 p.m., which was not the plan. this was bad both ways. Both ways. I was only bad on the way home because of the weather. No. Shit, it was bad both Both ways. So, like, there was a hardware issue on the front end of the trip.
00:15:29
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. So we get there late. I drop her off at 11. You know, there have the weekend, whatever. She's in touch with me, but I'm i'm staying at the West End. You know, it's like 10 minutes away. It's like it's nothing. But I'd never been to Tampa.
00:15:42
Speaker
Yeah. and So I was kind of excited to explore. Yeah. and Of course, Saturday morning, I wake up sick. Like I felt it coming on on Friday. You know, like, you know, you like you feel like you're getting a cold kind of thing.
00:15:53
Speaker
and I was like, oh, and I'm like using Nasacord and I'm drinking tea and I'm like sucking on vitamin I'm like trying to ward it off as much as I can. Yeah.
00:16:04
Speaker
I wake up Saturday morning. I'm totally sick. Oh, no. So I get up. I go down to the throw clothes on. I go into the lobby. i get my Starbucks. I get an oatmeal. I eat it plain. and yeah the omeal ah Wait, wait, wait. Is this the West End downtown near Emily Arena? Or they don't call it Emily Arena anymore. But that's a nice area. Yeah, it's the one on the water, like right over by Oh, i love that area. Okay. Yeah. Sorry. So you're sick. You oatmeal. Yeah. So I get the oatmeal. I get the coffee. I go out onto the beach.
00:16:34
Speaker
I sit on a lounge chair and I'm like soaking up the sun yeah on the phone. You know, I'm like talking to, you know, Eric, I'm talking to Claudia. I'm like talking. I'm on the phone with Claudia and she's like, what are you gonna today? And I said, i don't know, I'm gonna go explore. I'm gonna go find some like fun shit to do. yeah But I wasn't feeling well, so I hadn't like really planned much. Cause I was on my own program. I don't need to plan anything. I'm just gonna go and like explore.
00:16:57
Speaker
She says to me, do you know who Chihuly is? And I go, yeah. And she said, you need to go over to St. Pete and go see the Chihuly collection. okay And I was like, okay, do you know who Chihuly is? I do not. Okay. Chihuly, Dale Chihuly is a glassblower.
00:17:12
Speaker
Oh. And he has made some of the most beautiful, spectacular chandeliers yeah and installations that they've put in garden spaces and conservatories around the country. Wow. Okay. His work is impeccable. It's so beautiful. Okay.
00:17:29
Speaker
So I was like, oh, shit, that's a really good idea. and the only reason that I know that I discovered who Dale Chihuly was is because my father-in-law used to blow glass in Detroit. It was his hobby. That is what he did. Oh, shit. So the first time, one of the first times I went to Michigan with Eric, yeah Joel says to me, he says, you don't want to come. You know, I got I have some student time. Do you want to come?
00:17:52
Speaker
Oh, that's fun. Yeah, absolutely. That's really cool shit. we go to downtown Detroit to this warehouse and we go in and you know, there's all these people blowing glass. And then he like blew a couple pieces and, you know, gave them to us or whatever. i'm So like I've seen the process. I know what it looks like. I know how hard it is. Yeah. Really hard. yeah.
00:18:09
Speaker
And it's just it's it's just an arduous type of task. Yeah. Yeah. And so these Chihuly pieces are huge. Yeah. They're tremendous. And so when you look at them and you know the background, like you know what happens behind the scenes, it's just you're in awe of this work.
00:18:27
Speaker
So I go to the collection. It's in St. Pete. Yeah. Right. It's on Central Avenue, which is like the main artery through St. Petersburg, yeah downtown St. Pete. So I go to the collection across the street. is They do like, um like, I guess a ah demonstration.
00:18:44
Speaker
How to blow glass and they make a piece. And like you go into this place and like, and you can see just all these artists that do these demonstrations have all these pieces for sale in this place. It was, I mean, really beautiful. yeah it wasn't buying anything. I have enough.
00:18:57
Speaker
from my father-in-law. I just don't need any more blown glass vases and plates. can't travel with it anyways. It's impossible to get to you. but whatever they would just I would probably just put it in a shopping bag and carry it on and be like, it's a glass. I couldn't pack it. right It's whatever. like They're pretty lenient about that kind of stuff. um But I wasn't doing it anyway. It didn't matter.
00:19:16
Speaker
So then you know I'm walking around. I go i'm like shopping, window shopping. i go to my favorite running store, which is seemingly only in Florida, yeah which is called Fit to Run.
00:19:27
Speaker
Oh, with the number two in the middle. Yeah. They do, you know, they like, you know how they scan for hockey skates, like they scan feet. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They this for running shoes. Oh, cool. And they have all of these um treadmills. Yeah. So, you know, you get on a treadmill and they, you know, you walk, run, and they kind of assess your gait. It's really great. And so they fit you for shoes. And the reason that I was very excited to go...
00:19:50
Speaker
is because i am a devotee for OnCloud. I love them. Really? i love them. Let me finish. You're one of those people. So hold on, wait. And the first time I had them is I bought them at Fit to Run.
00:20:03
Speaker
Oh. Like three years ago or whatever. Yeah. And, you know, since that time, i mean, I wear them to death, literally. I've gone through probably, you know, like four colors, you know, and probably six pair of the same style. Holy shit.
00:20:16
Speaker
I wear the ones that that I have most recently to shit. It takes me about six months or less to get through, like a look really wear them down. okay That's how often I wear them. okay I order the same style, the same size, yeah all the same things. I put them on my feet.
00:20:35
Speaker
yeah They don't work. I don't understand why. okay And so I buy them, i return them, I buy them, i return them. I'm thinking like, okay, maybe it's just like a one-off production manufacturer or whatever.
00:20:46
Speaker
And so I go through seven fricking pairs that have been sent to my house that I've had to send back yeah because they don't fit the same. Yeah. Yeah. So I was like, okay, if I'm going to Tampa, I'm going to fit to run and I'm going to ask what the fuck is happening right here because this is not okay.
00:21:01
Speaker
Right. They've ruined my shoes. So I go in. Yeah. And the guy says to me, you know, I'm lamenting, and he says, you know, OnCloud, they do these really small, subtle changes in production. And when they do these changes, it affects the end user because people who have like stuff with their feet, yeah you know, like they have very high arches in my feet. yeah okay So if there's ah a little bit of a difference, i feel feel it. Yeah.
00:21:31
Speaker
Weird. um And he said he said that's probably what happened is that they they tweaked something and they no longer work. Okay. So he like put me on the thing. He's, you know, try these, these, these, and these. what It was an awesome experience. So I bought myself a pair of shoes and a pair of insoles to put in my other shoes.
00:21:48
Speaker
So wait. So you bought another pair of OnCloud shoes? did not buy OnCloud. Oh, no, no. So you guys fit you for a different custom shoe. Is there a brand that that should? No, it's just a custom He put me in a pair of Diodoras.
00:22:00
Speaker
Oh, no shit. There's a name? Right. That's what I said. He's still alive? Oh, God. That was what I said. It was like, I thought they only made tennis shoes. Yeah. He said, nope, they make running shoes. They make tennis shoes. They make all types of stuff. Wow. But, you know, you don't see them anymore, really, in, you know, lots of stores. But they had, like, a selection.
00:22:21
Speaker
Okay. So he, they're awesome. No, they're really, really good. it works. It did. But so, you know, so I like, I did that. I took care of that. I felt like yeah I had really taken care of myself because it was driving me nuts. Yeah. And I've been without sneakers because of it. Okay. Okay. So, you know, take myself for a poke bowl. I'm walking around. It is the St. Patrick's Day bar crawl in St. Pete. Yeah, baby. And when I tell you Central Avenue is full of bars, it's like yeah all the way up and down and around the corners, on the side streets. I mean, just so many

St. Pete Adventures and Cultural Experiences

00:22:58
Speaker
bars. Yeah.
00:23:00
Speaker
Everybody's wearing green. Everybody's happy. Everybody's drunk. It was really funny. But what happens is i stumble across a sign for the Dali Museum, which I didn't even know was there. oh Oh, okay. So it was a mile away or a little less. So I was like, okay. So I extended my parking. and walked over to the museum and I took myself to the Salvador Dali Museum. Good for you. It was amazing. didn't even have enough time there. Like, I mean, it was only like really two galleries, but the truth is didn't, I had like 90 minutes and I didn't have enough time.
00:23:34
Speaker
And people make fun of Tampa. Look at that. No culture. There's culture. It's total culture. You just have know where to find it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it was great. Like, I really, really liked it. It was really fun. I went to Sprouts, which is farmer's market store, which I've been kind of obsessed with, especially since watching Pluribus. Did you ever watch Pluribus Apple? Oh, haven't seen it. No, not yet. Okay.
00:23:55
Speaker
I don't love it. Yeah. I mean, I muddled through it. Yeah. But there's a scene where, you know, she stumbles into Sprouts, which is her local market in New Mexico. Right, right, right.
00:24:06
Speaker
And everything's gone. Oh. Because all of the people who have been, you know, affected by this. Yeah. I don't know. I call it a virus, whatever. They have effectively taken everything and they've left because she's been so offensive. So they took all the groceries out of Sprouts and they left. And so she and they're like, call us if you need anything, right Carol. Right. And so like she walks into Sprouts and she's like, what the hell? There's nothing in the store. So she calls and she says, I want my Sprouts back. And like five minutes later, all these trucks show up with all of these people who have like perma smiles. It's really kind of creepy. Hi, Carol. Hi, Carol. Hi, Carol. And they all walk in and set up the store and that may leave. And she's in the store shopping by herself. Oh, my God.
00:24:51
Speaker
it's she Because she's one out of like 12 or 13 people in the entire world that are not affected by this right right right right situation. So yeah, so I'm like obsessed with Sprouts. So I found a Sprouts. okay It's worth the impression. It was a really nice store.
00:25:05
Speaker
Like I'm, you know, plucking ads for like people all over the place right now. But yeah, Sprouts was really cool. highly recommend. Yeah, send us some free shit, Sprouts. Come on. What the hell? Yeah, Sprouts. Yeah, we're dicey. And the people were great. The people that work there were great.
00:25:19
Speaker
Yeah. Oh, pfft. They were so nice. This woman in like the supplement section. hi how are you? What you looking at? Creatine. Let's talk about creatine. Okay, let's talk about creatine. i don't have that shit. I'm from New York. Fuck that. Just give it sell to me. Dude, I was so on my own program.
00:25:37
Speaker
i didn't I didn't have to be anywhere for anything. I just was like on my way to take myself out to dinner after that. That's good. Your glass blowing trip reminds me of late night. This is in 2000 on our honeymoon. We went to Venice.
00:25:52
Speaker
And the hotel says, hey, here's a free,
00:25:59
Speaker
shuttle boat just for you lovebirds to Murano the next island over sure which is where we do all the glass going right like okay great it's free and let's go so nothing in life is free I'm like this is how the hard lesson this is how this is how mom donny got into office 36 years ago I'm like we go there and we still laugh about it we go there they take us to the factory look at this look at this look at this amazing amazing amazing you want to buy anything? Not really. We can't really take it home with us and we're on a honeymoon. and
00:26:32
Speaker
Okay, see you later. And the Italians. I saw the Italians. that ah I have Italian friends, but man, like happy in your face, stabbing you in the back behind you, ah the middle finger behind you, right? So, right.
00:26:45
Speaker
So we get to the whole factory. We don't buy anything and we're standing there. Well, how do we get back to the hotel? Oh, my God, no. know And then I'm like calling the hotel. Like, what the fuck?
00:26:57
Speaker
Where's the freaking... And then they grudgingly send someone back. I'm like, Elaine, it's because we didn't buy anything. If we had bought something, their shuttle would still be there. They would have waited for you for the royal treatment. i know. We didn't buy anything to get no shuttle back. I was laughing. I like,
00:27:11
Speaker
Lesson learned, Elaine. We go to Italy. a there are no freebies. B, anyone who's doing something for you, don't say yes unless you're going to buy something. The key is when you travel, if someone offers you something for free, do not take it. especially That's how we got sucked into like these timeshare things. Oh, yeah.
00:27:31
Speaker
You have a free lunch and a tour. Great. Let's do it. Oh, and then at the end, you're going to try and sell me a timeshare? yeah. Oh, God. When is this all over?
00:27:42
Speaker
but that's what I tell people. It's like is say people come to New York and go, oh, did you get hustled? You don't get hustled in you like that. No. like you go to Italy, you get hustled around every corner. Yeah. come Come this way. Come this way. Come this way. You know, we do this little boat ride. We do this little thing here. Italy, Mexico. Mexico. Oh, yeah.
00:27:57
Speaker
oh my God. like In the airport, they're hustling. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like before you even like but the time you get your baggage between your baggage and the door to go outside, they have all of those booths for all of those activities. Oh, yeah.
00:28:10
Speaker
And they're like, come here, I got a drink, got a drink, I got a drink. He's like, oh my God. And it's so funny, the last time we went, Eric bought it hook, line, and sinker. no.
00:28:23
Speaker
He looked at me was like, as long as it's not a timeshare, it's okay. I was like, oh okay, fine. Oh my God, that's so funny. Yeah, yeah, so I remember that story. and and we we tell everyone everyone that story, like, listen, to Italy, don no freebies. Don't go anywhere. Anyone trying to be nice to you, no, don anywhere but anywhere but i don't know, but like we were in New York already and it's like, you know, you're on high alert. But even then, like the Italians at a whole new different level.
00:28:49
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, I just think, I think it's a really good policy when you travel or walk around when someone says, know, do you want something for free? you say no. And if someone says, hey, can you do me a favor? You say no. There's just like no. That's right.
00:29:00
Speaker
No. Can you hold this? No, I cannot hold this. Do you know that? That happens all the time in Southeast Asia. Like drug traffickers are like, Hey, can you hold my coffee? And the next thing you know, you're like 20 years in prison. That's exactly it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't take anything. that's a saying. Someone says, I have something to show you. No, I've seen everything go away.
00:29:21
Speaker
No. Okay. So, but okay. So what I'm really after. ah Yeah. The story of return trip. Yeah. I remember getting the text from you. was like, oh boy, this is going to be a doozy for our next podcast. My God.
00:29:37
Speaker
So. Oh. Okay.

Flight Delay Drama

00:29:40
Speaker
So I get a warning text. Yeah. That the weather on the East Coast might impact travel. Yeah, it was a might it was a bad weather day out of nowhere. After like a summer Sunday, yeah it turned into winter Monday. Right. Well, even worse. It was like monsoon Monday. Yeah, yeah, yeah. yeah um You know, and i and I had had this thought and I was like, you know, maybe I should just preemptively change the flight and I'll take the 705 out on Tuesday. yeah You know, so yeah but originally what happened, we were supposed to fly out Sunday night.
00:30:12
Speaker
Oh, I fucked up the reservation and I accidentally booked it for Monday. oh damn. That would have been good Sunday night. So I accidentally booked the flight for Monday. But interestingly enough, I booked the car rental return for Sunday.
00:30:25
Speaker
Okay. Because I thought I was coming home on Sunday night. Right. Right. So then I had needed to find another car for 24 hours, which I was able to secure, which by the way, I got myself a Jeep Wrangler for the first time on vacation because I was by myself and the price was like there.
00:30:40
Speaker
It was so much fun to drive that car. Oh my God. Even in the rain Florida. It's so much fun. It's like a lifelong endeavor that I finally feel like I like fulfilled for myself. I will refute that.
00:30:50
Speaker
Why? i only drove it for a day. i have rented it and I almost drove evident myself off the highway. How the fuck did you do that? Because... It handles like shit. It's got a very loose steering mechanism. I was like, we get off an airport exit. This is a Pittsburgh. Yeah. And I literally almost drove. was like, Evan, I'm turning the wheel hard and this thing is still going straight. It's like we're going to drive off this ramp. Yeah, it's loose. The Wrangler and the Commandos, they have like a really loose, soft steering. found it the hard way. Almost found it the hard way. Yeah, the first time I turned, I was like, oh, okay, I need to modulate the way I drive for this. This is not a very agile vehicle. And before that, I had the Jeep Commander there for like two days. And that was actually, although it's a cheaper Jeep, the ride was solid.
00:31:46
Speaker
i would Because I drove it like to and from St. Pete. I was like driving it everywhere. And it was it was a solid ride. i I wouldn't complain about that ride. I don't know why it's fun. look i get I get the whole Jeep thing and you know the people the cult ah of following. And in Florida, it's a very popular rental. Yes. Right. Open air, sunny. right And and and like they had the hard top on it. So there wasn't a lot of open air. But it was like open windows. you know Because it was 72 degrees or whatever. But we digress. We do digress. So so i get the warning.
00:32:21
Speaker
Yeah. And like, I'm talking to my conciliaries and I'm just like, you know, maybe I should just, you know, take what I can right now for no money, like no additional money. They're offering changes and just pick up the 705 on Tuesday. Yeah. Problem was, is like my kid really couldn't miss any more school. yeah I had already screwed up. And so I was like, I need to get home on Monday. There's yeah no way. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
00:32:46
Speaker
So. like all right. I'm hedging my bets. Which is like, you know, it's like putting your head in the toilet and saying you're not drowning yourself.
00:32:57
Speaker
It's like, what was I thinking? yeah Yeah. So, you know, I get up on Monday. I'm still getting, you know warnings. I'm still not getting delays. It's on time. It's literally saying on time all morning. Yeah, yeah. My daughter goes, she goes, I drive her over to her friend's house. They go out for breakfast. You know, they're like, okay, we'll drop her back off at the hotel. I'm like, great. You know, be back by noon.
00:33:21
Speaker
At like 1130, I get a delay. and get my first delay. And so the car rental place had given me some leeway instead of returning it at noon. They were like, you come back at 1. It's fine. Just drop it off at 1 o'clock.
00:33:35
Speaker
And now down there, it's spring break. So there yeah are no rentals. yeah Everything is like busy and booked. and So there's nothing. There's no leeway for much down there right now.
00:33:47
Speaker
so She comes back. We get in the car. We go to the airport. And now I'm getting a little tweaked mentally. I'm like, okay, do I need to rent a hotel room? I don't have a car. If this like goes south, I don't have yeah yeah you rental. Yeah, yeah.
00:34:06
Speaker
And I don't want to take Ubers everywhere down there. Airport hotel, lady. Well, so so I look the Marriott at the Tampa International Airport is booked. So people have already taken this.
00:34:18
Speaker
They've already been canceled on. Yeah. And and even if they you know they cancel the reservations because they get out, yeah they've already booked they've already booked this space. yeah It's done. It's done. So I'm like, all right, so now I'm just going to wait. I'm just going have to wait and see what happens. So I get to the airport. I go to the car rental drop off. I said to the guy, I was like, you know, I looked online to see if there were any cars available, but there really wasn't much available just in case my flight gets canceled.
00:34:47
Speaker
And he looks at me and he says, well, that's because I've already had six people come back with the car and they have extended their rental and they are driving to Minnesota. What?
00:34:58
Speaker
Minnesota. I was like, whoa, time out. Okay. Have people looked at the map? Yeah. Yeah. um a But but you Minnesota. So I don't understand why. Although I would argue also there was a there was a flight to Detroit that was really delayed. And I didn't really understand why it was so heavily delayed.
00:35:17
Speaker
Because if you went if you took if you left Tampa and went west. Yeah. And then we went north. It was a massive storm that blanketed like half the country. I know. I know. But at that point, I was like, really? Like you couldn't just kind of... so know what For our two listeners, I also wanted to let the people know, okay, Jessica is a lifelong New York person. She knows that when there's one drop of rain at LaGuardia, it the fucking place shuts down. Yeah, pretty much. And... and And she sent me, i said, how's it going? On Monday morning, she sent me a photo of her feet on the beach staring out at the sunlight. yeah I started laughing like, whoa, she's going to have a tough afternoon. Yep. Yep.
00:36:03
Speaker
yep But you know what it was like I didn't think it was going to be that tough. No, but you know what? At a certain point, you need to you know be pragmatic and understand that you're just not in control of that. Yeah. And so you need to make choices, right? And the choice is very simple. It's either you stay the course and take your chances, hedge your bets, yeah or you bail, take an extra day or yeah whatever.
00:36:30
Speaker
but The problem was, is that if you didn't change your plans immediately, you keep getting pushed further and further and further back. So at a certain point, you just end up staying where you're at and you're like, okay, let's just see what happens. Because now there's nothing, there's no way for me to fix it.
00:36:46
Speaker
Right? Like all of the rentals that you could have taken to another airport destination were done. Yeah. You miss that rebooking window by like half a day or by the morning. Right. That's right. and and But it gets better. It gets better.
00:36:59
Speaker
I'll bring daughter's record for making you not be able to stay until Tuesday. Yeah. Right. Different story. Continue. Well, so...
00:37:09
Speaker
So I'm like, all right. So we go to the airport, drop the car off. I have an understanding now why I can't find cars that I can drop off at a different destination. right Because I was like, well, maybe we'll drive to Atlanta. Maybe i can get a flight out of Atlanta. Right. Like it's six hours. That's not absurd. Terrible. Yeah. you know so like my And I'm like, okay, well, maybe what happens if I go to Orlando? or you know and like I'm looking for flights out. I'm looking for flights out everywhere in Florida. yeah Nothing. and And the fucking airlines yeah jack the price, right? like oh All of a sudden, um where they the $169 flight that you saw yesterday is now $1,000. And you're like, I'm not paying you $1,000 for you to then delay me some more. Like, no, no, no, no. I'm not doing that.
00:37:51
Speaker
right So we're at the airport and we're waiting and we're waiting orre waiting and you know I put myself on the wait list for the Delta Club, which 90 minutes later I took myself off the list. I was like, people aren't leaving. This is stupid. No way. the And the club is so small there. small. yeah Like it's absurd. yeah um But they you know they weren't enforcing the three-hour rule, which really pissed me off because I was there for a very long time. Yeah. Right. Yeah.
00:38:16
Speaker
So, you know, we go and we sit down at the restaurant to eat dinner. Like, I don't even know what time it is now, but we keep experiencing delay, yeah delay, oh delay. I'm like, all right, fine. I meet this woman who's sitting next to me, become friendly, start talking. You know, now we're having a glass of wine. We're hanging out, shooting shit. You know, I find out all these like really cool things about her. She's actually really cool.
00:38:37
Speaker
Um, and she actually lives in Tampa and she said to me, she said, 8 PM is my, is my limit. that's limit yeah She's like, well, because her flight, she was on my flight. Right. Right. right We were supposed to leave at three o'clock. Right. Okay.
00:38:51
Speaker
And she had a meeting in New York in the morning. Okay. So at that point, you know, it was just for the one day and then she would turn around and come back and then she was flying, you know, she had had a meeting in Atlanta the next day and then she was flying to Sydney. Like she was just like, I'm not doing this. This is crazy.
00:39:07
Speaker
So eight o'clock rolls around. She bails. She's like, I'm out. See ya. Yeah. So, we you know, we connect, you know, outside of the airport and she leaves. Um, and Ruthie, you know, starts with me with the, can we go, can we go, can we go, let's just stay, let's just stay, let's just stay. You know, now she's like, well, it's her friend's spring break. And yes, you know, maybe she's met some other people through that friend. Okay. You know, there might be a boy in the scenario now, right. That I'm discovering.
00:39:36
Speaker
of course. And so the airline, air so the the airport's emptying out. Yeah. And there's People are just giving up and then going home. There's four flights left sitting there. It's us.
00:39:49
Speaker
Yeah. It's the flight to LaGuardia that was after us by 45 minutes or an hour. Yeah. Yeah. play to detroit okay and there was one other flight uh i gotta think about where it was oh it was boston okay boston and the planes are there that's good well yeah the hardware shows up but but like the hardware shows up a flight attendant times out yeah yeah right exactly like oh well we need to find a flight attendant i'm like oh my god this is gonna be so bad because the first person times out but then all the other people are going to time out by That's right. And it did. It was like self-fulfilled prophecy, right? ah So the flight attendant times out. They call.
00:40:25
Speaker
The person replacing them is on their way. Yeah. By the time that person gets there, the rest of the crew times out. Yeah. And now they have the absolute fucking nerve to say to us, ah we're trying to get this flight canceled. We're tired. You're tired. They told you that? They did. They told us that. Holy shit. So my daughter immediately goes, flights canceled, let's book a hotel. And I'm like, that is not what they said. not what they said. And I said, until it's off that board, like until it says canceled on the board, I am not leaving this airport. yeah Like I'm in for a dime, in for a dollar. Like this is where I'm at. And until it's actually canceled, I'm not leaving.
00:41:00
Speaker
I don't even know where to go. Right. like what' Right. and i and And by the way, I have nowhere to get there. So let's just take it. it You take a beat. It can't be that hard to get cancel a flight these days. They should fucking just cancel. They don't us two shits. But you have to hear the the groaning yeah in the airport when they're trying to get it canceled. Everybody's like, fuck you, because yeah it's now 10 o'clock at night. yeah we that should be And we've been there all day. The majority of us have been there around nine hours because, you know, with TSA and the government shutdown, like we're showing up two hours, pretty much two hour window before takeoff. Right. Just to make sure.
00:41:34
Speaker
yeah And I have TSA pre, right? So I know I'm going to move a little bit faster, but I don't know how fast I'm going to go or how slow. Oh my God. So then what happens is you hear the announcement, flight blah, blah, blah to LaGuardia, now boarding. Yeah.
00:41:52
Speaker
Yeah. And no, not our flight. Oh, the other LaGuardia flight. of you The one after us. They start boarding the flight. And the screaming that ensues in this terminal. Like, these are the things that I've seen go viral on, like, Instagram, TikTok. Yeah.
00:42:13
Speaker
like People are going bananas. They're out of their minds. They are screaming. They are like, you know, like rushing over to the gate agents. Like it is a scene and a half.
00:42:24
Speaker
Yeah. So, you know, the people that are going to Detroit now are so pissed. They're pissed yeah for us. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. a that i'm sitting with they're like i can't believe that just happened there's no way Yeah and so the gate agents come on and they're like okay ok ok ok we have one more thing we might be able to do to get you guys out of here tonight let's see if it works and this is going to be the last shot right So there was another flight that was coming in and landing. Okay. And that crew had not timed out yet. Oh, they could turn around. Yes, they could turn around and go back. Okay.
00:43:00
Speaker
But they said to us in the terminal, they said, they will time out if you take too long. Right. so you got to get on that plane. They were like, when we start boarding this plane, you guys need to get on the plane, sit down, buckle up and be done.
00:43:16
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Okay, great. And now my daughter is freaking out because now she wants to stay. Right. So she's now telling me I'm a liar because I said it was canceled. said, I i had never said anything. Yeah. So she's, you know, and she's,
00:43:29
Speaker
tired and cranky. I mean, sure you know, we took off at midnight. We did get on the plane and we did take off at midnight. remember texted me like, holy shit, it happened. It did. mean, I thought, ah, it's not going to happen. It did, but it did not, it did not happen easily. And it yeah did not happen without tons of approbation, but we were in the airport yeah for 11 hours. Oh, yeah. That's insane. Which is bananas. And everywhere's not big either. It's not like it's very comfortable. And there's not a lot of places to go because, you know, you're in the extension terminal, which is like a Terminal E at Tampa. So you're like, you're through a whole other security area yeah on a different wing. And there's just not a lot there. That whole security thing.
00:44:09
Speaker
When my daughter flew back ah last, a week ago, Sunday, and it was like a one o'clock flight. Like i we were braced for the worst of all those reports. We got to LaGuardia. Okay. She's got touchless ID anyways, aside from clear. So it didn't really matter that she just sort of walks in. Right. But there was no line. The regular security line at LaGuardia, terminal C at her flight was a 140 flight.
00:44:41
Speaker
Yeah. We left home. at 12.15, got her there at 12.45, parked the car, walked in. And I was like, this is either going to go one of two ways. we're gonna She's going to stroll right through or we're canceling the flight and booking later one because she can't get through security. And they were like,
00:45:05
Speaker
20 people in the regular security line. Yeah. looking him And i was like, I looked around like, what the hell's wrong with this place? LaGuardia is never this anomaly. what Anyway, she waltzed right in and i and every day I keep seeing these like three hour, four hour lines. I'm like, what the, where? I'm like, like i don't,
00:45:22
Speaker
see this shit but I guess it's happening obviously people be making up shit it's there yeah I mean yeah I've seen it on videos you know it's very strange because did not have that experience yeah getting you know to the airport on the way out for Tampa was five minutes I mean we breezed through and she because she doesn't have her own TSA stuff yet because she's she's a minor she's a minor she's online I have touchless but I can't get her touchless Oh, okay. Right, right. She can't get touched. Right. So I have to wait in the same line with her. Like if I traveled on my own, I'd have touchless. I'd be fine. And then on the way back, you know, through Tampa, it was like five minutes. It was nothing. Like breezed right through. really weird. I don't know. And maybe we're deep into spring break now. So like deep into
00:46:13
Speaker
i I think my daughter's spring break was on the earlier side. So maybe she gets away with. the crunch really happening. And even for you and your weather delay, I think spring break now sort of mid-March into late March, maybe it's worse. I don't know. i know It just seems weird that some of those lines are crazy. It's snaking outside the terminal. like but everybody that Everybody that I knew that was on spring break, their spring breaks are done. No problem, right?
00:46:38
Speaker
Yeah. And no problem, but they're finished. They all had spring break around the same time. That's true. ah I don't know. You know, I mean, the boarding school kids I know were home last week. yeah you know the You know, the college kids I know were home last week. Yeah. um I know. So I don't know. Who knows?
00:46:55
Speaker
I don't know. know yeah i don't go well i'm trying op out I will tell you on the next podcast because I'm going Montreal next week. Yeah, no, I want to hear it. ah I was tempted because I think I have clear.
00:47:10
Speaker
And if you have clear, and I know that like yesterday, last couple of days, they said that even like the clear and TSA pre-lines were shut because of a people calling out sick. But that if you have clear, you can pay 99 bucks for clear concierge. Mm-hmm.
00:47:26
Speaker
which is a a personal escort through security. right And I've heard that like out of everything. I mean, it is 99 bucks on top of your clear membership, but that's right.
00:47:38
Speaker
No delay. yeah Right to the front of the line. Yeah, I mean, you I can't, you know, you got to book it in advance. How do you know you need to spend a hundred bucks in advance? I mean, well, you know, I mean, the you know, the thing is, is that you don't know. Right. Again, it's like hedging your bets. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But, you know, I mean, in my experience so far, you know, I mean, and I've flown a lot this year. Yeah.
00:47:59
Speaker
I have not had any issues. Yeah. Knock on wood, I haven't had any issues, but I see these videos and I think to myself, where the hell are you? Where are you flying to that you're having? feel like maybe it's more international than domestic. I don't think so. I feel like it's the hubs. The videos I've seen Austin Airport, Houston Airport, some really big airports in the south.
00:48:25
Speaker
Crazy. Yeah, I don't know. yeah I couldn't believe it. i I mean, I think there was one at JFK, maybe. oh That looked a little hairy. i don't know. sam anyone and Sam had sent me one, yeah and it was like long.
00:48:39
Speaker
No, I mean, these are three or four hour lines out the door. I mean, the whole crash at LaGuardia, they're saying the NTSB people couldn't even get there from like DC and Texas because they were in line for three hours. That's bananas. And then finally did the... Why are they putting the NTSB people online for three hours, though? I know. The DHS would be to call the local airport and beg them to let these people through. I'm are you kidding me? You don't have a badge? You're fucking NTSB? He's like, fuck you, let me through. it's like, I don't even understand why they don't get an escort through the airport for NTSB. They drove out from D.C. instead. That's insane. That's insane. I don't understand that. Well, my brother and his family are trying to get back from Florida and they were supposed to fly back into LaGuardia and their flight was canceled. It was shut down. It was shut down. Yeah, totally shut down. So they ended getting being able to get a flight into Westchester Airport. Ooh.
00:49:31
Speaker
It's not bad. No, it's fine. mean But they don't they live in Connecticut anyway. I do you know i almost don't even understand why they're not just flying in our west. sir Yeah. Or even to Hartford. Right. Well, Hartford. I guess we're trying to communicate. Yeah, I don't know. I don't think it's actually as far as having get to LaGuardia. I don't know. I don't know what would be closer, actually. Yeah, I don't know. I'm not in any position today. A lot the families that fly up from Florida, from Tampa, actually to Hotchkiss, always fly into Hartford.
00:50:00
Speaker
Bradley, right? It's Bradley. Hartford. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. ah yeah and And for cheap, like there's Avello and Breeze Airways for 50 bucks. I wouldn't fly for 50 bucks. Breeze is so cheap.
00:50:12
Speaker
But it's cheap. It's so cheap. Breeze doesn't go anywhere, though. No, they have like this, well, use these small airports and they just do whatever, direct routes right back and forth. Yeah. I mean, I would fly it. I would try it once. Yeah.
00:50:23
Speaker
Sure. Why not? Yes. i mean, it's I don't think the risk is any higher. The pilots come from all the same places. That's

Airline Preferences and Aviation Safety

00:50:30
Speaker
that's true. That's true. For 59 bucks a a seat, are you really spending on top tier maintenance of your aircraft? I don't know. I, you know, I think, well, I think that there are standards that need to be met. So I don't, I don't know that it's not.
00:50:44
Speaker
I don't know. It's like, it's like, but it's like, oh I mean, I gotta tell you, doctor is a doctor, they graduated, but someone graduated at the bottom of the class. Do you want to go to that doctor? Well, yeah, but you know what? But here's the thing. When you make an appointment, when you make an appointment for a doctor, you don't know whether or not they graduated at the bottom of the class. saying But if you found out they did, would you still go to that person?
00:51:06
Speaker
Well, yeah. if they like if If my experience with them has been whole yeah. okay Because you know what? it's like So what? They finished the bottom of their class. Who cares? Well, when those buildings collapse, always tell my kids, hey, not ah on not all engineers graduate with an a but Such a fucked up way to look at everything, dude. I'm sorry. You're an engineer. You graduated. You C minus. But still you still graduate C minus. You're out there doing work on the buildings. Nobody knows. But even if you graduate engineering school with an A, it can make a mistake. They're human. That is true. It's human error. It's like, you know, that doesn't exempt them from being human.
00:51:47
Speaker
Unfortunately. Switching gears. Fine. I'm going to say congratulations to Dartmouth for winning the ECAC championship.

Dartmouth's ECAC Championship Win

00:51:54
Speaker
i don't know if you watched it. What a game. I didn't. Against Princeton. History in the making. It is the first, I can't believe it's the first time in history that Dartmouth has won the ECAC.
00:52:03
Speaker
Yeah, i read that. That's insane considering The talent pool they draw on all the time. NHL guys come out of there. It's weird. they no They've never won. um Unbelievable. And by the way, number nine seed. So fuck. What an upset. mean, look, my kid...
00:52:21
Speaker
well else give it i mean look my kid they get my the prep school thing. They get upset by the number eight Avon, but I would argue yeah Avon shouldn't have been number eight. They just had a spell of bad luck and injuries that pushed number eight. They steamrolled everybody. And then,
00:52:37
Speaker
you know, won the elite eight. Right. But like, you know, I think in the ECAC and college level where it's tight, competition is tight for the number nine team to win. That's serious shit. I'm surprised Princeton even made the final.
00:52:50
Speaker
That's even more insane because they're not normally known, I think, for given their intellectual requirements. Right. they Anyways, great game. I watched it. Congratulations to them. That's huge.
00:53:03
Speaker
Um, There you go. Off to a nationals next, right? Yeah. Yeah. Which is kind of great. don't think you get an ass kicked by everybody else.
00:53:17
Speaker
Michigan, Boston, North Dakota, Notre Dame, you know, whatever, all the other top teams. Right. Penn State. Penn.
00:53:28
Speaker
I'm going to Pennsylvania. I'm going to Philly again this weekend. Are you? Number nine men's hockey to take on Wisconsin in the regional. Oh, that's yeah toast.
00:53:41
Speaker
Nice. Nice. Sorry. Sorry, Dartmouth. I hope you win. I do hope you win, but that might be a tall task against Wisconsin.
00:53:53
Speaker
Badgers. The women just won ah the national title. I just saw that. That's cool. Yeah. Back to back. Back to back titles ah against Ohio State, I believe.
00:54:09
Speaker
I think that's been the same final two years in a row. Anyways, so that's happened. So the men's stuff is coming up. So that'd be fun to watch a national title for hockey. Some good hockey ah on that front. So everybody, this is sort of a hockey podcast. It does, sort of.
00:54:26
Speaker
some because Some days it it is, some days it isn't. Kind of like, you know, yeah, it's getting off the rails here and there. But anyways, watch Hockey Nationals, Frozen 4, blah, blah, blah. It's coming up. Exciting stuff.
00:54:37
Speaker
um Okay. We're going to get ah we can get Jessica off and with her daughter. So you know what time it is? It's time for the dad jokes. And Jessica...
00:54:51
Speaker
Jessica has been on a roll as of late. Seriously, you have dumbed down yourself to my level and you have guessed many of these correctly. I'm trying. I'm trying. Sometimes I can relate. Other times I just can't.
00:55:05
Speaker
Here's the first one. Okay. Why does the hurricane have bad vision? Oh, I know this. do you even... Okay, wait, wait, wait. Let me cut the music.
00:55:16
Speaker
Okay, she already knows. She already knows the answer to this. I know, it's pretty easy. Why does the hurricane have bad vision? Because it only has one eye. Correct!
00:55:29
Speaker
Oh, too easy. Alright, scratch that one off. Too easy for Jessica. Okay, how about... Okay, here's another similarly bad one. Why are pigs bad drivers?
00:55:42
Speaker
Oh...
00:55:46
Speaker
This might be as easy as the hurricane one. don't know. Why are pigs bad drivers?
00:55:57
Speaker
Because they're road hogs. Oh, that's really funny. I would not have gotten that. I love i thought for sure you would have gotten that one. Oh my God. good at left, ham, germs.
00:56:09
Speaker
Here's the last one. We're doing a bonus round here. Bonus round for Jessica. Okay, she's been on roll recently. late This one, i think you might get this one. Why didn't the sun enroll in college?
00:56:22
Speaker
Why didn't the sun, as in the sun, in the sky, enroll in college? Because it was too bright. very close. Want to take a nice dab at it? Before buzz you?
00:56:36
Speaker
Because it already has a million degrees.
00:56:41
Speaker
Winner, winner, chicken dinner. Come on, it was already too bright. There's so many answers. You're close. I gave you a hint. If not, I would have... i would That's true.
00:56:52
Speaker
so many So many answers are are ready for that. Oh, man. Okay. So, nah yeah. Episode 43. Decent one. I'm glad you got home safe. Oh, thank you. Me too.
00:57:03
Speaker
um It was a concern as we were approaching midnight takeoff and crew timing out. I was like, no, I don't know. Oh, and then let me tell you something real quick before we go. What I forgot to mention is I think that crew that they gave us was for the 705 flight on Tuesday morning, which was the flight that I was going to rebook for.
00:57:24
Speaker
Yeah. And so it was canceled. Yeah, And then they told everybody they couldn't get anybody out till Thursday. oh my god And you know what? Yeah. And this was Monday. We're going to end on a happy note because it is very difficult to get rebooked on flights these days. Yeah.
00:57:38
Speaker
totally that. you're more than one person. So yeah. Oh, wow. So good. very important details. I totally forgot. Yeah. Well, that's a good miss then. Good for you. Yeah. Holy shit. Averted more absentee tragedy. We'll see ah what exciting news I have for you when I come back from Montreal. I can't wait.
00:57:56
Speaker
I cannot wait. bump boom All right, everybody. Have fun. Be safe out there. And if you're in New York, stay warm. Yeah, try anyway. Have a good one. Bye.
