Introduction and Podcast Banter
00:00:17
Speaker
What's happening, everybody? Welcome to another Triple t podcast for Knife Makers. My name is Jared Sandoval from Echo Blades, and I'm here with my super hyped up, ready to go, fired, super enthusiastic co-host, Mr. Dennis Terrell. We are here to do the same thing we do every week, talk a bunch of shit to each other, hopefully ah laugh more at Dennis and try to entertain you.
Sleep Troubles and Productivity
00:00:41
Speaker
And maybe, maybe try not to lose our fourth listener but at any rate Dennis how the hell are you how was your week uh it was all right it was good yeah yeah i'm I'm working on a really massive headache right now, so I'm going to try to power through, but it's poking at my eyeballs.
00:01:04
Speaker
Explain this. I don't know. i just didn't sleep well last night, and I've had a mild headache all day. and It really affected productivity today, let me tell you. Productivity? Yes. Okay.
00:01:16
Speaker
All right. Yes. I'm sorry to hear that. Yeah, but, you know, shit happens. It does. Whenever I have a nap midday, which yesterday I decided, oh, I'll just have a little nap.
00:01:30
Speaker
And then I never sleep well that night.
Knife-Making Projects and Student Innovations
00:01:32
Speaker
So I should know better. Dude, naps can only go, they cannot go longer than like 20 minutes. Otherwise, yeah this was like 45 to an hour. It was.
00:01:42
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. does I'll never recover from that either. Yeah, it was. and I didn't sleep well last night and I was grumpy this morning and yeah.
00:01:54
Speaker
But okay it's going to be a productive day tomorrow because I've got to get these damn knives done so I can go on to the next ones. Very cool. But last week went well. um You know, got most of the way through these folders and had a class Thursday, Friday. um These are the folders that you had to make the Damascus 14 times for? Yeah.
00:02:20
Speaker
Oh, that's why you're little poo butt. Yeah. No, not from that. But... um But yeah, did did you see that Damascus axe? I did see that.
00:02:32
Speaker
Yeah, it was pretty cool. That really cool. haven't done an axe in a while, so it was kind of a fun class. Can I ask you a question? What's that? Can I ask you a question? You can ask me a question.
00:02:49
Speaker
No, I thought that was cool. I think ah I find it, I found it extremely interesting that that's what somebody decided to do in their class. It's not, a you know, it doesn't seem like the obvious first choice for somebody just to come in and make a Damascus axe.
00:03:07
Speaker
well this is a previous student and he does i'm gonna get so a two-timer yes he does uh uh lichtenberg i forget the art but basically you take electrodes and you burn wood and it creates these like fractal patterns in wood know what talking about can't remember that world because that's that's a word i was trying to remember fractal or lichtenberg fractal fuck i don't know what the hell a lickenberg is but he does this and he's really into this so he is doing this lichtenberg art on the handle so burning these fractals on the handle and then wanted an axe head to match the the handle that he's doing that's cool i thought it was cool it came out look look good yeah
00:03:58
Speaker
It was fun. I haven't done one of those in a while. So, but we only had two days and it was like, we got it done easily. But there was some times where I'm like, okay, we're going to move on. It's not exactly, you know, we could probably could have made it bigger. We could have stretched some, but it was like, okay, I was just worried on time. Have you done, have you done an act since you and Rick almost killed each other?
00:04:25
Speaker
ah that was That was a hammer. Oh, that was a hammer. That was a hammer. That's Shit. You're right. Anyways, this is a great story when you get two powerhouse type A personalities talking about a process and they don't trust each other on that particular process. And one of them has to take the lead and just do it. And the other one's sitting there going...
Movie Discussions and Opinions
00:04:49
Speaker
murmur oh dude, that was one of my favorite days ever.
00:04:52
Speaker
I wish he was an axe because he would go better with the story. but Rick has a history of cracking things and... Well, that was pre. that we say i should have known better than to.
00:05:05
Speaker
but yeah, that was that was a funny day. Yeah. Both of you guys. That was the the most reserved I've seen Dennis be while he was obviously irritated, not trusting the process.
00:05:23
Speaker
But it was an axe. the hour i mean, it was a hammer. The axe was the thing you got to... yeah No, you didn't get burned on that one, did you? you got burned on the dagger, on the spearhead. Spear, spear, yeah, yeah, yeah. I did ah an axe last summer with my stepson when he... I remember that. Yeah. Yeah, I do remember that.
00:05:44
Speaker
That's right. Yeah. But it was in a Damascus axe, so this was, it was fun. Nice. Yeah. It's just a nice departure from knives and not having to like, we, we totally finished that thing. Like you saw how nice the Damascus looked.
00:06:02
Speaker
Didn't hand sanded at all. That was a belt finish. Very cool. Yeah. So, um, with my super cool belts. no um this is something um i got i got this tip from mike magnino because he said um my um my museum fits were just a little bit sharp and i said well i'm buffing them like you said and he goes yeah but what are you using for compound And I said, just like white buffing compound. And he goes, no, no, no, get 400 grit buffing compound.
00:06:41
Speaker
I'm like, I didn't even know that was a thing. So I ordered That's not a color? No. It's black, actually. It looks like pitch. Oh. Would you call me? Yeah, you know what I call you.
00:06:55
Speaker
um But it's literally like you can buff it and it's it's like a 400 grit sandpaper. And I'm loving this stuff because anything like an axe, anything that has curves, we went from 220 to this 400 compound.
00:07:15
Speaker
And then we went to. um Just on the buffet, on the wheel. On the wheel. Wow. Because I was going to use a cork belt on it with like green compound, but this 400 grit compound, I was impressed. I could not believe how. Now, obviously, if you're going to do this on a knife, it's going to wash out your lines and all the stuff that ah a surface conditioning belt would do. Probably worse.
00:07:41
Speaker
But for an axe and things with curves, like for fittings, I'm totally going to do this on fittings. oh that's cool um i was very impressed so uh that's a good little tip if you guys are looking for a speedy way to sand something that
Knife-Making Supplies and Comedy Mishaps
00:07:59
Speaker
doesn't have a lot of like you know hard edges yeah go get yourself some 400 grit um um compound compound i'm not even sure what it's called but
00:08:13
Speaker
I don't know if they have it at Maritime Knife Supply, but sure is something I think Mr. Lawrence Lake should start to carry over there because he carries everything else. So if you guys need stuff for knife making or anything, go check out Maritime Knife Supply. Get yourself some abrasives, some handle material, some steel. You name it, he's got it.
00:08:37
Speaker
Nice. He cracked me up. He sent me a message, and he goes, Uh, yeah, that was a hell of a time to bring up the ball marker. and i was like, you can't write that shit. There's no, no chance in hell that I know that balls up was going to turn into some Canadian freaking dating ritual.
00:09:01
Speaker
they it I had to explain that to Kim. Cause it's like, cause she's in the next room. And if we're really loud, like we're laughing really loud, she could hear us. okay And she's like, the next morning, she's like, what the hell were you guys laughing about for 10 minutes? ah That was funny.
00:09:19
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. That was cool. But yeah, i was like, sorry, buddy. I was really trying to give you a shout out. I didn't mean make it
00:09:28
Speaker
Speaking of balls up, I did watch the movie over the weekend. Nice. Yeah, it is actually really funny. i mean, it's okay, right? it's It's stupid. Like, you know, it's a stupid movie, but it's...
00:09:40
Speaker
Look, the best funny movies are are stupid. Absolutely. Once in while, i do not mind a stupid comedy.
Knife Projects and Ameribraid Tools
00:09:48
Speaker
um it was It was a good watch.
00:09:51
Speaker
yeah If you don't have any expectations and you're just like starting to watch it, I mean, just from the very opening, it starts and you're like, he's got it funny. And then it just keeps like giving you that little bit of ah stupid humor the whole way through. That's pretty good. Yeah.
00:10:08
Speaker
yeah it was i was thinking about the uh the podcast uh the whole time but yeah i can imagine yeah it's it's a pretty fun movie that's good i enjoyed it yeah so you guys should go i watch it it was on it was on netflix right netflix prime i can't remember i think i think it was netflix i saw don't remember I intended to watch the massive weight of unfunny talent or whatever, and I never got around it. But I found out that that's on Prime, and I and i am going to watch it. because it is
00:10:45
Speaker
It's called The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Yeah, actually but i Lynn and I watched the trailer, and I was just like, i was like you just got to see this one look that dude gives. And like I literally want to spend my whole life just like, ah, ah. But when you watch the movie, you'll find out you're not allowed to spend your days. I kind of got the gist of it from the trailer.
00:11:10
Speaker
but But I still like that. It was pretty cool. Yeah. the My favorite is when they're jumping over the wall. It's like right after that.
00:11:22
Speaker
Okay. Yeah. I don't know. that That scene, though, whatever it is, probably... I was kind of getting the vibe of the movie, but yeah, I'm going to watch it. I ended up going to see the the Michael Jackson movie on.
00:11:34
Speaker
how was that? I'm a, you know me, I'm a, I'm a, I'm a fan. So I love, it was hard. I sat next to the person that sat next to me who happened to be, you said to the person that sat next to you. that I said, i sorry. I'm trying to censor, not
Blade Show Preparations and Procrastination
00:11:57
Speaker
censor myself. Yeah.
00:12:00
Speaker
that That might be the funniest thing you said all day. allow myself to introduce myself.
00:12:12
Speaker
I sat next to a lady and i and I just leaned over and said, I'm going to sing the whole way through this movie. Sorry. And she didn't really understand me because she was like a Jamaican lady or something like that. And she ended up being more loud than I was the whole time. She was just like, Oh no. Yeah. Oh, like the whole movie. Like it was kind of, I actually had this, this memory of you telling somebody to shut up when we were in Utah in the theater. Yeah.
00:12:42
Speaker
And I was like, I'm glad Dennis is in here, but because I was kind of irritated by it. But then at the end of it, I was just like, nah, that's it's cool. She's just trying to enjoy it. And it wasn't deliberate or anything. like It was just like some natural kind of things. But. mean, it was all right. It was slow. I think it got super good.
00:13:01
Speaker
um Like right when it ended, i think it was probably getting better. But whoever played that dude, and i um my daughter was saying it's like his nephew. But I don't know that to be true. But yeah, it was eerie how the
Family Celebrations and Weekend Plans
00:13:19
Speaker
result. But it's no Bohemian Rhapsody?
00:13:23
Speaker
No. As far as of the film? No, it's good. yeah It wasn't bad. Like i said, I enjoyed it. did they Is this like a like a biography kind of drama?
00:13:35
Speaker
Yeah, it's ah it's a story. And then they stopped at one point and then they said they're going to make another one and and the next year or another thing's going to come out. but this is just the joltra ballot is I don't know if that's going to happen or where they're going to go with that, but I guess there's some controversy going on with that. Did they cover the movie? No, it stopped at like... um right at when bad came out oh that album really yeah so it was from the beginning of the jackson roceary stuff at all no they're gonna it's gonna there's gonna be another one so and i don't know what it is but it's a remake about him so i don't i knew nothing about the movie i didn't even know it was out my daughter went and saw it and then that really makes me not want to see it now if it didn't yeah okay i don't mind michael's music but you know
00:14:24
Speaker
In my view, he's a crazy pedophile and he's a nut. And he's, he's an eccentric dude and and out there for sure, but a hell of an entertainer. And like I said, I, yeah, there's a whole bunch to it. He's a freak though, for sure. Yeah.
00:14:41
Speaker
yeah But I would, go i because we like watching those, like the the whole, what is it?
00:14:50
Speaker
I forget that it's like a Untold, I think is the series. Those are great on Netflix. those yeah really good oh So we watch a lot of those. And I was hoping it was going to be something like that. No, no,
Challenges in Knife Projects and Management
00:15:03
Speaker
no, no, no. It's simply like just a like a like a movie about him.
00:15:07
Speaker
Just his story. And I don't know who who who who who wrote it or like who approved it or whatnot. but So anyways, I don't give a shit. the The music was good.
00:15:21
Speaker
There were some cool things, little insights about how things were made. and So it was all right. enjoyed it. um and but that was supposed to be the time i was gonna watch the other movie and then it got me out of the shop too but it was cool i got i enjoyed spending time with uh with lynn and my daughter um just going to the movies and stuff that's always that's always a good time so nice so you got out in the shop i heard since i bailed on you on sunday
00:15:53
Speaker
You didn't really bail on me. I didn't, I don't even think I responded to you. Actually, I was thinking about that. Um, but, um, yeah, I, I did. I said, I was just, I'm going to, I'm going be in the shop on Saturday or Sunday. Um, and that's, that's what I did. So I went out on first, got up early, went at breakfast, uh, went to, I don't know how I ended up, but I went to home Depot. Cause I just randomly remembered I was out of acetone.
00:16:20
Speaker
And so we went and grabbed a thing of acetone, got a couple of things there. then we ended up at Costco um and then got back to the house around like 10 o'clock or something and then went out and then I fucking had this just gut wrenching realization that I forgot that the air went out again in my shop.
00:16:44
Speaker
So But I had everything to fix it, so I went after i went at that for a while. um and Long story short, I got it fixed, and then another line broke.
00:16:58
Speaker
This was downstream of where I needed anyway, so it's not the end of the world. I got to redo the whole thing. did But did you did you turn down your compressor?
00:17:09
Speaker
No, I have not turned Okay, you got to do that first. Because you're probably pushing way too much air into those lines. I'm not not saying that that's not true. But I think that what's happened
Sci-Fi Interests and Event Logistics
00:17:21
Speaker
is that it has been under that pressure for so long that there's a lot of areas that are compromised. So it just keeps like picking which...
00:17:30
Speaker
Is it blowing the lines or just the connectors? The lines are so are getting calm. They're like getting little splices in them. and It's happening all over the place. And this is like the braided. Did you get the cheapo ones or did you get like the braided ones?
00:17:46
Speaker
No, this is some high quality H2O. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, you you got your compressor at like 200 PSI or something crazy.
00:17:58
Speaker
Is that 120, 120, 140? That's up there. But it what I did do was not have any recollection or or any awareness that I should not keep it under pressure all the time.
00:18:15
Speaker
So it's been like that for years. I keep mine at pressure all the time. That's not unusual. Well, how high do you have it? I think mine's only at 90. Yeah.
00:18:25
Speaker
But I don't know. I don't know shit, Dennis. I um you know don't know anything. This is all, you know, hindsight for me is like, oh, yeah, maybe I should have just let the air out once in a while.
00:18:38
Speaker
But so anyways, I got to redo it. um But it's holding. It held, did everything I needed to. So I ground a knife out and then I went and just had myself a nice knife.
00:18:51
Speaker
hand sanding, therapeutic, chill out, mindless session and just hand sanded for a few hours. I really, I fucking enjoyed it. What kind of knife was it? Like a chef?
00:19:04
Speaker
Yeah, it was the sand, my, the stainless sand, my, and then I switched on to another one. But again, I,
Travel Costs and Outdoor Activities
00:19:14
Speaker
I, every time I hand sand, I, I realized that I shouldn't have come off the grinder.
00:19:20
Speaker
so soon So i I'll hand sand it and then I'll be like, Oh God. i Okay. So I went back and chewed it up a little bit and then went back to it. but Are you um using the disc yet to um to true it up after?
00:19:34
Speaker
I normally do. I didn't on this one because there was a, what I did do was i noticed that my, my con the convexing was really good on this one. So on the flat side, I was,
00:19:49
Speaker
I still had lines right there at the, at the, I don't know how eighth inch, quarter inch in between that, um, where, where I started the convexing.
00:19:59
Speaker
Um, but I noticed there was some high spots here and there towards the heel, which is always my deal. Anyways, I tend to bitch out when I'm getting up in that, uh, in the heel in the, uh, ricasso area.
00:20:12
Speaker
So I went back, i had some deeper scratches than I had originally noticed. Um, instead of fighting it on the hand sand, I figured I'd just go back and, just a do another one 20 run through it. So it was good.
00:20:28
Speaker
i don't know. I didn't really have, it wasn't, striving for anything i'd already ground out the knife that i was another knife so i like i said i was just in the shop i didn't want to get out of it uh because messing with the air was almost made me leave because that's i don't enjoy that kind of shit so um but it was cool i had a great time and then we went to the movie so i kind of shut my uh when you're in the shop a grinder do you use
00:21:01
Speaker
I used my Fastback from Ameribraid. Nice. game changer for me. Love that machine.
00:21:13
Speaker
Powerhouse. All the good stuff. I did not use the Hyperdisk this week, but that is the other thing that you need to go to. The... quick change multi-tool machine. You handle all kinds of operations, easy swap out of tools. So if you're in the market for a new grinder, go check out Ameribraid at ameribraid.com. You can use the discount code TTT10 for 10% off accessories and TTT for discounts on machines.
00:21:47
Speaker
Nice. Good stuff there. Yeah, I did a bunch on mine. I got a I want to get to that stainless Damascus buoy that's sitting. It's already been ground to 36. I got to take the, I got to do the one 20 and the two 20 and take it up the grits a little bit, but I'm anxious to get to that one. And you know, I'm always doing four of anything, you know, doing batches is, is hard on me.
00:22:16
Speaker
So that's why these are taking a
Personal Achievements and Reflections
00:22:22
Speaker
so hopefully uh i did i got to do the file work on the liners tomorrow and then um set all the detents and that should be and then then i'm on to uh final hand sanding and etching the blades and i should be good cool yeah so very good hopefully probably wednesday i'll get them done love it which would be good we got What, going on four weeks now until Blade Show?
00:22:54
Speaker
Just over four weeks. Got to get moving. it is It is here. Yeah. I got sheaths to do. I got i want to see if I can finish another one after this one, but it's looking not likely.
00:23:10
Speaker
I'll see how long this one takes, but maybe I'll do a hunter or something before then. Cool. Cool. Yeah, that's coming here. I think a couple people messaged me that they we stressed them out last week with the realization of how quick it's actually going to be here.
00:23:27
Speaker
Yeah, and I got my anniversary. We're going away that for a couple of days that weekend right before Blade. So, yeah. That's going to take some time, but I do have all weekend this weekend because Kim's going away to see the grandkid. so Nice. Is that Mother's Day this weekend?
00:23:47
Speaker
It is. Yeah. yes so
00:23:52
Speaker
For me, that's a not at all weekend.
00:23:57
Speaker
If you want to get together Saturday, let me know. Okay.
00:24:02
Speaker
Sounds good. We'll get some stuff done. Because, yeah, today was not a very productive day, but um I
Addiction Insights and Podcast Closing
00:24:10
Speaker
just couldn't. like My brain was not working today. I had to do the, you know, like the recess area on the inside of the liner, like where you where you push the liner lock.
00:24:22
Speaker
You know, you you put that little bevel there. You know what i'm talking about? Yeah. Yeah.
00:24:29
Speaker
I was like, I could not for the life of me, could not figure out how to do that without the lock. And it was, it's something that was so simple that should,
00:24:41
Speaker
um that should work that wasn't working. So in my brain, so I have an automatic liner lock knife right now. Is the D10 not working at all?
00:24:57
Speaker
Yeah, that just flopped right open from... Oh, the D-temp ball must come out. Yeah. But anyways, yeah. No, I get it. i You get stuck on a stupid process and you're not really feeling it anyways. You just... Yeah. Some days aren't your day.
00:25:15
Speaker
I'll tell you what I would have probably i bet you would have traded me today where I had another awesome realization that the worst part of managing people is managing people.
00:25:27
Speaker
So and sitting beside them. Yeah, around the same room at least. Yeah. I'm just, I'm, ne i I am, every time I think I've heard it, seen it, experienced it all, they they never cease to amaze me with the amount of ridiculousness that can come about.
00:25:47
Speaker
So anyways, that's what I was doing most of the day. So probably would have switched is all I'm saying. would have took a headache and fighting with a a folder yeah it is my wife's birthday week this week she is uh Wednesday Wednesday the sixth the next day yes Cinco Mañana Maya.
00:26:23
Speaker
Yeah, it's her happy birthday on on Wednesday. Awesome. Yeah. So that was one of the things I had to leave the shop to do a little errand to something for her birthday present.
00:26:37
Speaker
Nice. Yeah. um And it's also... What? she She... Yeah, yeah Kim... is is the best because yeah, she's similar to my wife. They don't just have a birthday. They have like a birthday week.
00:26:55
Speaker
Yeah. Like they must be celebrated and honored for an extended amount of period other than just the day. Yes, exactly. I think we're just going to go out for dinner. um i don't know. We'll do something on Wednesday.
00:27:12
Speaker
Awesome. Yeah. So happy birthday to my wonderful wife. Yes, happy birthday, Kim. um And it's May the 4th today. Did you do any Star Wars thing? Zero. Didn't even notice it until I read your you note.
00:27:30
Speaker
I was seeing memes everywhere. I'm like, oh, yeah, it's it's the 4th today. And they had a Star Wars marathon in which I caught... like the last half of uh empire strikes back and then the first the first hour of return of the jedi so i i got my star wars fix in didn't even cross my mind i'm a horrible horrible fan do you like the star wars series i do love it yeah
00:28:03
Speaker
You're going to watch the Mandalorian? i I realize that I'm a bigger fan in my mind than I am in actual reality. ah you don't You don't know as much when people start asking you Star Wars trivia? like I can quickly get out of my element very quickly yeah when like a true Star Wars nerd hits me up.
00:28:28
Speaker
yeah yeah so That's like Noah in Lord of the Rings.
00:28:35
Speaker
Yep. Yes, sir. I'd say I'm better than average at Star Wars trivia, but certainly not in the Star Wars nerd category.
00:28:50
Speaker
I think my my daughter, Corinne, she's a Star Wars nerd category. Nice. Yeah. But I do like the series, and I'm excited to see The Mandalorian.
00:29:02
Speaker
did you Do you watch the whole Mandalorian series? I don't even think I ever fixed it finished it because I watched started that show with Jared years ago, and then...
00:29:15
Speaker
um I'm probably the worst person to try to watch a series with. If you don't get me sitting down and like binge watching the whole thing, yeah you'll be waiting for days and days and days for me to get back to it. So he ended up finishing it by himself and I think I got my feelings hurt and I never watched it. so Oh, well, you'll have to go back and watch it before the series or before the movie.
00:29:39
Speaker
Nice. So, I'm excited for the movie. um that That's probably the best of the Star Wars like TV series. All the old ones have kind shit the bad. Yeah, it's been WAMI.
00:29:59
Speaker
And we got the, speaking of that, cause it's sci-fi, we have got the sci-fi challenge starting up end of next month, middle to end of next month. Whenever I get my ass in gear, I've got, uh, I got to nail down sponsors and, um, other things, but, uh, like participants, but, um, yeah, we should be due to start that mid to late June.
00:30:28
Speaker
Okay. So, uh, I feel like it's been a long time in between, but you just, you, you actually, it has been right. You didn't start this one previously. They were before a blade show, right?
00:30:42
Speaker
No. Last year was June as well. Started in June. It's been exactly a year.
00:30:49
Speaker
I thought you were, Oh, so you're only doing one a year now. We're only doing one a year. Right. Cause there used to be a couple, right? Yeah, we used it like two years ago was when we did two a year.
00:31:03
Speaker
But last year we only did one and then this year we're only going to do one. Okay. All right. It's just too much. it's Certainly for the guys that are full time, like miss ah it's just too much of a time sink, especially being the organizer that, um you know, I got a day job to do. um And yeah, I get people love these things and they like to participate, but they're a lot of work to put on and a lot of work to do these builds.
00:31:32
Speaker
So they do take a lot of time. And summer is a good time because it's after blade show, things are slowing down. Summer is usually slow for people.
00:31:43
Speaker
So it's a good time to do a build like this. Nice. Yeah. But for me, right after blade show, I'm going to have to ramp up and start making things for um Austria.
00:31:55
Speaker
So I've got stuff to sell for Austria. So it won't be a it won't be a slow, relaxing summer for me. That's it. Keep it busy.
00:32:06
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. But you know who else keeps it busy? there's There's a lot of people. And we're back.
00:32:17
Speaker
Hey, welcome to another Triple T podcast. ah For some reason, if I tap the cable to this mic, ah it's dead. And I can't like plug it back in or anything like that. If I tap the mic, it's done.
00:32:35
Speaker
I have to like, that was a new one. Cause it, it, it said finished recording and downloaded all my tracks. Oh really? oh I didn't see that. Yeah. That was weird. Bizarre.
00:32:47
Speaker
Yeah. But yeah, you were, anyways, you were talking about who gets it busy still. I was trying to do an ad read for Frank and Nita over at two bastards. Ooh. Cause they're getting it busy over there.
00:33:03
Speaker
Wait a minute. I didn't say they're getting busy. They're getting it busy. okay Come on, Jared. If you need a hammer, a for forging for whatever you want to do that you need to get yourself a two bastards fat peen hammer the straight peen cross peen curly peen any of the peens that you need curly peen dang it's new it's new on the line all right go check them out at two bastards two bastards texas smithian supplies you can look them up on facebook and check the link in the uh

00:33:59
Speaker
So, what are you going to try to finish for Blade Show? I don't know. i have ah I'm kind of stuck in between. I have a some actual... progress on some order builds that I think I may just, uh, turn around and sell.
00:34:16
Speaker
Yeah. Sell those and take some money with me there to do that. Um, I, I don't know. And I'm just, just going to do what, what happens.
00:34:28
Speaker
I am okay with it. I'm going to be all right with it. Yeah, I'm all right if I just get done what's on my table. I don't know if I'm that jazz to get to crush it and get more done. Yeah.
00:34:43
Speaker
I still got sheaths and that's like weighing on my mind. i always leave. I was procrastinating. Leave those to the end. Yeah, I'll finish. I'll bring something. Something will be done. but Yeah, I'm not tripping off of it.
00:34:56
Speaker
It is all good. Yeah. It's coming soon, though. I'm excited. It should be fun. Yeah. Same. I spoke to Parker yesterday, and he he thinks he gets his ATT school is done May 24th, and he thinks he gets about three weeks of leave, which is perfect. So... um Yeah, he may, i don't know, he may come here for a week and then go with me to Atlanta and then fly home or meet us in Atlanta and then um come back with us.
00:35:34
Speaker
I don't know. I don't know what he's doing. So waiting for. That'd be cool. Yeah. It's in a military. It's all like hurry up and wait. Gotcha. So he won't know probably till the week before something ridiculous where flights are going to be an arm and a leg.
00:35:53
Speaker
Yeah. Spirit just shit the bed today. Yeah, that was a couple days ago. Was it a couple days ago? Yeah. I just heard it on the um the news today that, yeah, people were showing up for flights and they were canceled.
00:36:10
Speaker
So yeah, tough luck. Yeah. But that's, I never fly that anyways. not No, I am thats violently opposed to flying Spirit and Frontier.
00:36:22
Speaker
All right. Because we we've we've flown, was it was a Spirit or Frontier we flew one time? well I've never done it. i I've not done that with you, not once. Oh, I thought we did it once, and maybe it was Parker and I.
00:36:37
Speaker
I swear I'd never do. I think it was Parker and I, we went to um Texas one time and we flew spirit thinking, oh, it's only two and a half hours. Terrible. Yeah. No, ain't doing it.
00:36:49
Speaker
Like you've won enough you got to pay for water and soda on the plane. Like that's how much they nickel and dime. Yeah. Yeah. No thanks. And I, and the, and the, like the room and the seats is ridiculously small too. Right. And you feel like you're on a city bus.
00:37:05
Speaker
Yeah. They're like that hard plastic. Like they're not even, they're not even foam. Yeah. Although on our last ah American, did we fly? um I think we did fly American to yeah Texas. That, that flight home was like sitting on a concrete bench for some reason. That's the first time that's happened, but so yeah, not a fan.
00:37:32
Speaker
We got our flights to Austria and we're flying business class on the way there and then regular on the way home. So at least we'll have a nice flight on the way there.
00:37:45
Speaker
Yeah, that's that's a long flight. Yeah. it's It's already crazy expensive. the the The upgrade to first class is the just the upgrade is $2,000 a ticket. Oh, Lord.
00:38:02
Speaker
oh lord Yeah. Just to upgrade from our tickets, which were like $1,200. Wow. wow like I can't do it. That's, i don't know. I was watching some, some YouTube golf video not too long ago. And they had a, there's a channel that I watched that, um, he's, he's damn good golfer, but he plays the pros and, um, he's like a scratch golfer. So, he They normally give him about five strokes, and then he plays 18 holes with them. And I think it was Justin Rose was the guy. But they at the end, they did like a a a sponsor of a an app called Fly House.
00:38:44
Speaker
and And Justin was like, yeah, this is the who I use to fly you know to tournaments and do all this stuff. And i was like, huh. So... I don't know what the hell was thinking, but it is a private jet service.
00:38:57
Speaker
So I downloaded the app. I was, and I think they had a discount code or something like that, but it turns out they didn't. And i was just for shits and giggles, wanted to see how much it would be for me to fly.
00:39:13
Speaker
cause after blade, I'm going to North Carolina. So I, I threw in that and this was a month or so ago. so I was like, Oh, it's been, it's a little while. So let let me get, and let let me get, I want to guess. So it was, you put in San Francisco to Atlanta and Atlanta to North Carolina.
00:39:28
Speaker
No, I just put in North Carolina back to here. I don't remember what. Yeah. Okay. So Atlanta to North Carolina, North Carolina to Nope. Nope. Just North Carolina to here. Just North Carolina home.
00:39:41
Speaker
I'm driving from Atlanta to to North Carolina. ah I'm going to say 30K. So you're way more in the ballpark than I was. Yeah.
00:39:52
Speaker
yeah yeah I don't know. i like i'm I guess I'm just not that bougie. I don't have i i have any idea because I was thinking it was going to be like eight grand or something stupid. Like, you know, like there was going to be like a chartered private plane and I was going to get a seat on it or something like that. So i knew it was going to be ridiculous. The cheapest. It was like an auction for private jets.
00:40:14
Speaker
The cheapest was sixty three thousand dollars. But do you get the jet to yourself? ah Yes. Oh, okay. Yeah. I mean, it when i when it it all came down to it, like after you got all the the details and shit, I was clueless. I had no fucking idea, but I was like, what? zi or what
00:40:34
Speaker
Even if I wanted to try to ball out and just be like, you know, some big shot or something, I was like, that no, 63 was the cheapest. I mean, it was a nice plane and everything else, but it went all the way up to 160,000.
00:40:50
Speaker
I was just like, wow, there's people live an entirely different life than I do.
00:40:56
Speaker
Entirely different. That's insane. But yeah, you were one flight. That's that would be one flight one way. Yeah. Crazy. Yeah. 30 K is a way better guess than I had. Cause I, like I said, I was thinking like eight.
00:41:11
Speaker
five six eight something oh i i actually thought you meant it was like a shared commuter private that's what i thought it was okay that's why my 30 grand because i because like a first class seat um across the country is probably 2500 at least at least Yeah, dont i don't like I said, I didn't have a clue, but I was like, okay, delete. The app is gone.
00:41:42
Speaker
I bet you Mr. Coy Baker flies those kind of flights. I think so, too. i think when he came down here, he had chartered that whole thing out. I think he was paying for it and, you know, freaking Tiger My Nishim bars or something. Yeah.
00:41:58
Speaker
am If you guys need some quality steel, you got to get get it from the baller with the beard, Mr. Coy Baker over at Baker Forge and all the Baker boys. Get yourself some fine steel over there while you're there. Get some gator or piss and all the varieties.
00:42:16
Speaker

00:42:27
Speaker

00:42:43
Speaker
It's getting curly the bottom. Yeah, it's getting a little curly at the bottom and i am completely over it. So I'm going until June. That'll be one year and then it's... It's gone after a Blade Show?
00:42:56
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, it's getting a major, major hack. It's going
00:43:05
Speaker
on. Yeah. All right. Yeah, we definitely did have Best Beard in Building photo op in Texas, so we'll do it again and In Atlanta. There's a beard off.
00:43:17
Speaker
It was a beard off, yeah. What do we have this week for them? Iron Tide Chevron. Rod Iron Cladding in our Chevron chevron pattern is uh is the drop this week or was three days ago anyways but uh for this next coming week uh make sure you use the the app for one day early access to the drops um and like uh my buddy was mentioning um follow the process clean it etch it and protect it with grime reaper
00:43:50
Speaker
um the OG Gator Max, Gator Heavy, Gator Piss, and Gator Skin to to protect it. Discount code TTT10 for 10% off.
00:44:05
Speaker
I'll be using some of that in a couple of weeks. When I go to etch that blade, I'll be using some Gator Max that I haven't used in a while. Nice. Very cool. I saw a picture of ah he went, Koi went fishing, caught a couple of trout.
00:44:21
Speaker
Oh, really? Yeah. thought that was cool. More than you. 100% more than me. I saw two.
00:44:32
Speaker
But it didn't look like he was in a blizzard, so good for him. Yeah. Yeah, um I mentioned ago i' got to start harassing my buddy Chris and see if I can get out for some halibut in the bay because they're however on fire right now.
00:44:51
Speaker
You know, i was thinking about it too. ah Bass fishing is way funner trout fishing. I absolutely agree. lot, a lot more. It's just... The the only thing funner than bass fishing is pike fishing.
00:45:05
Speaker
I've not had the opportunity. yeah like northern like st lawrence river is full of northern pike and they hit like a freight train and they run yeah i heard they're not like bass and they're yeah when i was a kid that's all we that's all we catch that's all we fish for yeah i mean five pound five to ten pound bass will fucking dive on you and give you a fucking good fight too but i've heard that yeah the pikes are yeah it's not even comparable yeah like a five pound pike is still pretty small yeah they're long and narrow yeah yeah
00:45:49
Speaker
You can easily catch a 15, 20-pound pike, no problem. And those are monsters. Like a striper, too. Those are good. But striper fishing is boring, too. you just Yeah.
00:46:02
Speaker
so Well, it's not boring. mean Your worst day fishing is better than a lot of days, but, yeah you know, for sure.
00:46:13
Speaker
Yeah. Well, I have huge... I have fucking amazing news. Oh? Yeah. This week. Is it golf news? This week, I into I a 15.6 handicap.
00:46:24
Speaker
What you started on 2022.
00:46:27
Speaker
have entered in to an uncharted zone i am now a fifteen point six handap what were you for i started i twenty twenty two oh Oh, yeah. but Lower is better, right?
00:46:45
Speaker
Lower is way better. Yeah. So now i'm I'm averaging in the 80s, which is incredible for me. So I shot 87 from the the Blues, the back tees on Saturday. Come on Don't bullshit me.
00:47:01
Speaker
No. Jared's a 9.5 now. That's irritating. And now he's hitting the ball. He's hitting, he's driving the ball farther than I am. I told him he's going to have to start paying rent if he keeps doing that in front of people. because That's bullshit.
00:47:17
Speaker
Jared, stop showing up your dad or he's going to. Yeah. In six months he went from like me just encouraging him not to, to give up to him bombing it past me 20, 30 yards. And I was just like, good God, this is, this is not what I expected, but.
00:47:32
Speaker
And yours aren't getting longer. They're going to start getting shorter. You're getting older, man. I don't know. Yeah, no it's the I'm in the ball pretty damn good right now. And he's he's still getting it out. Yeah. I don't know. I'm impressed.
00:47:45
Speaker
But yeah, we played. ah We didn't play together a Saturday morning. And then we went out and paid nine holes in the afternoon. so i did get to play with him. So I played 27 holes on Saturday, which was great.
00:47:59
Speaker
It's cool thing. And then, um you know, I had the ah the awesome, super grateful. I celebrated 19 years clean on Saturday. Nice.
00:48:13
Speaker
I didn't make a post this year. Um, I don't know why some, this might be one of the first ones that I've not done, but it just, I don't, I don't know. There's, I just was not motivated to talk about it. Um, so had a handful of people reach out and, and wish me happy birthday. Um, and I'm, I'm super grateful, but Lynn made a post and, you know, I,
00:48:42
Speaker
It's an extremely emotional day. Um, I talked about it last week, I think a little bit about the, you know, kind of leading up to it, but that day is just, um, I'm in, in retrospect, I'm, I'm overly, uh, aware of how long it's been. Number one, what, ah what a crazy journey it's been. And like, as the years pile up, it's, it's one of those things where it's just like, I, you got to pinch yourself every now and again. um because I don't struggle with the, like the wanting to use anymore, but like all the other shit shows up in my life all the time.
00:49:19
Speaker
And Lynn had said something along the lines of, it's not the time, but it was, it's like the countless, I think she said thousands, which is probably right. But the the thousand decisions to, to not fuck up in that capacity, you know?
00:49:38
Speaker
Um, that's the only thing I've done. Right. It's just, I haven't picked up and got loaded. It's the only thing I've done right in recovery for 19 years is just that I haven't, I haven't picked up. i haven't found a reason good enough to fruit to go back out there, but I was just kind of focused. The main reason though, is that what you're supposed to do?
00:49:54
Speaker
I mean, it sounds that way, but there's ah a lot of ways that you can. There's a term called like a dry drunk. Somebody that doesn't drink, but doesn't do any of the recovery process. And there's just miserable fucks that you don't even want. ah yeah You won almost wish them to go back to drinking because they're unbearable to deal with.
00:50:15
Speaker
Um, and you know, so ultimately, yes, that is the the most important thing. But, you know, for me, getting clean was about becoming a father, becoming a a husband, becoming employable, becoming a friend, becoming a son, becoming, you know, like there's, there's a lot more to it. Um, and that's why when I get going on a, on a conversation with somebody about, you know, addiction and whatnot, it's like how it affects, you know, it's a family disease. It tears families apart. It tears people apart, relationships apart. um And ultimately it's, it's less about,
00:50:48
Speaker
you I became aware that it was less about me um and more about you know the damage I was doing to to other people. So when I say the only thing I've done right is not pick up and use, it's because you know there's 19 years of trying to become a better person and how to live life on life's terms, which is you know not necessarily easy for for a guy like me.
00:51:09
Speaker
um you know I always joke that I'm by nature a horrible person. Uh, and the evidence is you know, the things that I've done, but the, the result of not doing that has led me to 19 years of, of, of changing into, in the person that I'm, I want to be. Um, and that's just loved to be loved and to give love and and to be able to participate in in things and experience life, uh, and to its fullest potential. And for that, I don't you know, there's no no regrets on that on that journey. But um those those decisions, though, you know, because there's there's times where you think, you know, I'm going to stay clean. But, like, if something really bad happens, then you give yourself permission to go back.
00:51:51
Speaker
And, you know that you know, if somebody dies or, you know, something like horrible shit happens. And and for those those things, I was really focusing on on the weight of the just that simple comment. And then, obviously, just absolutely – the unending thank yous for the support for the people that have been around for the, for the journey for how long you've been a part of my life. Um, you know, everybody's kind of participated in some way, whether you know it or not.
00:52:21
Speaker
Uh, I am extremely grateful for all the love and the support and, and the, uh,
00:52:28
Speaker
just, yeah. Um, there's this easily speechless to, to say, um, through that. So, uh, overwhelmed, um, And extremely grateful um to to be doing what I do today.
00:52:43
Speaker
And, you know, giving up. ah ah My buddies and I were talking about um Canadians it this weekend. And somehow we came up with this term. i was like, yeah, I don't know. I never, never knew Canadians. And every day I started making knives and I'm like, I, that's my world is just around a bunch of freaking Canadians. Right.
00:53:05
Speaker
And, I don't know how it came up, but we came up with the term maple meth. So I'm happy to be clean from maple meth for 19 years because or the five years, whatever it's been since I've been making knives. I haven't had to participate in in in any any maple meth consumption. Because I think that's got there's got to be some maple flavored meth out there Hathia for sure.
00:53:34
Speaker
Probably. And then I was talking to to another buddy of mine and he said he saw this bumper sticker. And if any of you guys are like me and you understand, but the bumper sticker said simply,
00:53:48
Speaker
hold on while I overthink this. And I, and I think as an addict, ah you know, like that is just, just absolutely a perfect term because that that's what we do. we overthink fucking everything. And I need to get that, that bumper sticker. I think that's a great, great term.
00:54:07
Speaker
It was pretty cool. So yeah, that's, and then, you know, I golfed on Saturday um and then hung out with the family and did all that. So, uh, really cool, really cool weekend. And like I said, the, the therapeutic hand sanding was kind of just mindlessly kind of just going through lot of, uh, nostalgia while I was, uh, just alone in the shopping, just trying to try and channel some, some gratitude for, for what it is.
00:54:38
Speaker
um, 19 long time, six thousand nine hundred and forty days
00:54:47
Speaker
How many minutes? Don't know. Don't care. if But yeah, I was kind of blown up. Yeah, that's ah that's a lot. And again, i haven't talked to my buddy, but I don't know. He wasn't at the office today, but there's a handful of people that I i go and i and I say thank you to and for letting them know that they helped me, even though they're probably unaware of it. But he always looks at me and he goes, man, this is good as you're going feel all day long.
00:55:16
Speaker
It's my favorite.
00:55:22
Speaker
Yeah. That's, that's that man. Yeah. Well, we'll be talking about 20 in no time. Yeah. And yeah, hopefully God willing.
00:55:35
Speaker

00:59:27
Speaker
i see a lot of people using those pivot rings. um Makes me want to try that on a knife, which I have not to date. You know what talking about, the pivot ring.
00:59:38
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Yeah. And all his, like, he's not using standard pivot heads. He's using, like, custom pivot heads that match the yeah the knife, which is cool. The handles, yeah. Yeah.
