My name is Jared from Echo Blades and as always I have my good buddy Mr. Dennis Terrell from Terrell Knife Works and we are here to rock your socks off with a beautiful new fuzzy cover microphone. So hopefully my audio is good here. i am chained to a controlled distance here so i hope everything goes good apologize for last week's uh uh foobar but anyways um i'm just gonna keep on talking and ice out dennis so you guys don't even have to hear him because that's what i want to do and talk about all the things that i want to do
Speaker: Yeah, the first thing I got to say is I cannot believe I see that fuzzy mic cover. I caught so much shit when I bought that same fuzzy mic cover and I see Mr. Jared with the same one.
Speaker: Hey, have you in the 80s, did you ever see the Wheaties commercial? You want to be like Mike? Yes. Yeah, that's what trying to be like, dude. I'm just trying to be like Mike here.
Speaker: I'm trying to be like Tyrell. Let's go. I know you have fuzzy mic envy. It's good. dude I do. I do. It severely and ah inhibits my ability to get really close to the mic. So yes, we should just get one of those, like, you know, a little bar so that as you move around, the mic is just connected to your chin. Yeah. I'm not really set up for this, you know, it's not really my makeup here, but it does kind of really block the perfection of my beard. So.
Speaker: maybe yeah It makes me happy that I see less of you. I mean, what what can I say? Oh, hold on. Let me just fix this. No more microphone.
Speaker: Well, I'm just going to float around because the camera likes to zoom in. So I'll make you. see Yeah, you make me nauseous all the time. So one time this guy clicks a button on on his video because we can see each other.
Speaker: and And then when he does move around and his audio is not affected, i go into some kind of like old acid trip. And for a minute it's cool because I think of it like a freebie, but then I get nauseous.
Speaker: yeah I there's some setting on Apple that the camera is smart and it will center on your face. So if you move around, the camera will like center on your face. I have no idea where that setting is to turn it off.
Speaker: Yeah. And now he enjoys it because I do. Cause it annoys Jared. It does. It takes my focus. Oh man. So yeah. How did you do? How did, how was the balloons?
Speaker: Uh, I never saw the balloons cause I didn't want, uh, our friends, uh, we had compromised and they were going to get up at six 30, but then they changed their mind and they wanted to see the fancy light show that was on at six. So they got up at four 30 and went, and I said, fuck you, we're not doing that.
Speaker: Um, but I, even better, I saw it on her phone, uh, cause she took a whole bunch of pictures. uh, I saw it just as good. Um, I didn't need to see it in person.
Speaker: and when they went the balloons never actually took off because it was too windy it was windy as shit up there the whole fucking weekend it was like yeah it was super windy yeah i felt like i was in mountain house or something it was crazy windy yeah yeah very similar it was it was super windy but apparently that hot balloon thing is a is a thing there Oh yeah. the The campground was crazy full. Like everything was packed.
Speaker: My buddies are like, yeah, we go every year. This is the first year that we haven't gone. Cause it's just like, it's, it's become too much of a thing. Like it gets super crowded. And so I don't have a frame of reference, but, um, because I've never been, so we went to the, my daughters wanted to go out. And I wanted to go out to Saturday night, go gambling. So I took them to the Grand Sierra.
Speaker: I have never been to the Grand Sierra before. What'd you think? I couldn't, we had to park in like the back 40. It took us 20 minutes to find parking. So that's what I'm saying. I don't know if it was the balloon thing. i think so.
Speaker: Like i could not believe it. Like it was, so I've never seen so many cars lined up like everywhere. Hmm. It was crazy. it's It's a nice casino.
Speaker: Yeah, I like that place. That's probably the only place that I'm... That and Atlantis. Atlantis is nice. Yeah, but I'm not a big fan of downtown. That's that's a real that's a level 12 shithole.
Speaker: Yeah, I agree. Kayla was staying at Circus Circus because she wanted to take Memphis the Circus Circus, which I think is an absolute shithole. um I did the same thing one time. So we actually went down there because we had to drop her off. So we ended up going to like Circus Circus and Silver Legacy and El Dorado and did the whole Reno. Well, those three hotels because the only thing left on the strip these days. but Oh, wow.
Speaker: Yeah, I've been there in years. Yeah, I watched my son-in-law lose 100 bucks in poker faster than anyone I've ever seen. faster than roulette but no we won money at roulette uh we played roulette for like i don't know 45 minutes and then we were both up i didn't mean i think i was up 10 bucks and i had a free drink so i was like okay let's go and then i wanted to play poker And he's like, oh, yeah, I know how to play poker. And I'm like, are you sure? we get in there. And I was like, there was one hand. I talked to him the next day and he goes, I don't understand why I didn't win that hand. had I had pocket kings. I'm like, no, you didn't.
Speaker: You had king, queen. and he Because he threw his he threw his cards up. And I'm like, what are you doing? The guy the other guy had a full house and he had king high. Yeah. It was anyway, it was crazy.
Speaker: Yeah. Uh, yeah, he lost quickly, but it's unfortunate. Um, but yeah, it was a good time. i had a good time. um my grandson's adorable, um, who I got to see again, cause they're, they're still here visiting.
Speaker: So it's fun to hang out with that kid is so much more. because when I saw him last he was like three months old and now he's factory stickers on then right and now he's like almost eight months old so it was such a difference laughing and crawling around and yeah much more playful so yeah he's a he's adorable that's cool but uh yeah it was cool um how was your weekend My weekend was good.
Speaker: It was really good. i got my I got to hang out with my brother. um So he came over, met me at the golf course on Friday. we golfed. I finally shot a decent round.
Speaker: and I was so worried. i Yeah, I know you were. but I told you I joined this the i started doing like this little gambling wager thing that we do with the with the group that I play with. And i have been steady dishing out money. I mean, it's not it's not like huge money, but so I finally won that.
Speaker: um And then i beat my brother. And then we immediately went got in the car and drove up to Reno. And dude, that could be such an a decent drive. Yeah, it's a shit show.
Speaker: Oh my God, dude. um There's three different places that they're working on 80 and it's, they're just far enough apart but that once you get through one, you speed up and then bam. Yeah.
Speaker: Oh man. I was, I normally am not that guy in the car, but I turned into that guy. I just couldn't, I couldn't, I couldn't let it go. Like, cause it it doesn't even have to be that bad if people just go.
Speaker: It's just their inability to like, they they get next to a big rig and then they just freeze up. And yeah, it was it was a little maddening. Try try driving a 36 foot RV. I thought about it when I That will drive you insane because people automatically have a reaction if you're driving an RV and they just like, oh, they want to cut in front of you. They want to get ahead of you. And it's fucking annoying. Yeah.
Speaker: And we went up to, went to Shields. um But we got up there too late because I was going to go try to check you out because you said that you were by there.
Speaker: Yeah, we like walked to Shields once. Apparently there's a casino right by Shields that's supposed to be pretty good. Yeah, Legends Casino. Yeah, that's where the Sparks people go instead of going downtown.
Speaker: Yeah, i do um we didn't head over there. Like I, someone mentioned it to me, but It seemed lame. We didn't we didn't go. Yeah, I didn't i didn't do any any of that, to my brother's dismay. he was like Is he a gambler?
Speaker: he's ah He's a have fun. And he was out, and, um you know, so it was kind of – he couldn't fathom that we weren't going there. but I'm like, this it's dirty, dude. It's gross. It's like – I don't know. What's dirty? Just Reno, that whole place. so But we had a good time, though, and then hooked up with our buddies, and then we golfed on Saturday. Have you ever been up to Gray Eagle?
Speaker: I don't even know what that is. Yeah. it's it's in I thought we were going to golf in Reno, but apparently it's it's in California, north of Tahoe. I've never been up in the area. ah ah Really beautiful. Really, really beautiful. The course was freaking...
Speaker: it was So it was like North Lake? No, it's... don't We drove... It was an hour and 20 minutes from Reno, like northwest.
Speaker: Oh, so you're nowhere near Tahoe. It's north of Tahoe, I said. Yeah, I know, but Reno's north of Tahoe. I mean, you're... yeah and Like I said, it was more more west, but it was... I guess it's like 40 minutes from Tahoe or something like that. But um but anyways, the the area was really nice. but but Nice camping areas and stuff like that. Of course, it was really cool. It had two bucks.
Speaker: I was joking because I think... yeah the the deer know that the middle of the fairway is the safest place for them to be. But they were just chilling, laying down in the middle of the fucking fairway and not not worried about a thing.
Speaker: But it was really cool. um And then um the guys were, you know, doing their thing and having some drinks and stuff. And and my brother, out of nowhere, this dude just...
Speaker: has the round of his life. The fucking kid couldn't miss. i and he he ended whooping my ass and everyone else's in, i think his he was just a little tuned up and was a little loose, but man, it was, it was cool to see. Cause I know he's, he's wants to beat me. And, um, but,
Speaker: yeah with the with the frustration of me shitting the bed and not playing well but with him playing good and stuff uh it was pretty cool so he he he really enjoyed that all night long i got to i got to hear about that um and then yeah we stayed up super late on saturday night like i don't know one or two in the morning and then i got up at like four o'clock and and I don't even think he he might have went to bed later than I did.
Speaker: And I just kicked his, kicked his bed and was like, get in the car. We're going. So. That's four in the morning. It was like four 10. Yeah. And then I just, we hightailed it down. I got, I got back home before eight o'clock.
Speaker: why Why did you leave somewhere early? I just wanted wanted to get home. And plus he's got, he's got to go to Capitola too. So he had another two hours there the time. So.
Speaker: um And then I intended on trying to get into the shop, but I i ended up doing a lot of old man napping. Well, yeah, not surprising if you had three hours sleep.
Speaker: Yeah, it was good. but Yeah, so I had a good weekend, man. It was it was a lot of fun, a lot of laughs, good to see the good to see my friends. and um Yeah, it was a good time. But I did learn that Sparks, that whole area, because every time – we said this last time. Every time you visit an area, you start – considering possibilities of you know could i do this but man they built a shit ton of houses and then i think about five years later decided to you know consider infrastructure there's not a single fucking place in that area that's not under construction that whole road by everywhere shields like to the just east of she is like there everywhere.
Speaker: And they're the longest roads in the history of the world too. And they're just all, I mean, it was, yeah, Mike bought this, no way. And it was windy as shit too. Well, we were looking at, not because we were looking, but because Corinne and Mitchell They're always like contemplating moving different because they're in Colorado now. yeah and they're like, oh, what about Reno? Reno's just as expensive as the Bay Area now. It is now. Yep.
Speaker: Yeah. My buddies got in their house probably about five or six years ago and it was probably what we would consider Reno prices. And they're, yeah, they're just as much as is mine here and in this area. So there.
Speaker: um Yeah. No brakes there anymore. Yeah. Even price of gas was the same. It was more. I, it depends where you get where you are. Maybe you and Brentwood, but for us, it was almost identical.
Speaker: and No, I filled up in, uh, or no, I noticed it somewhere down the hill in the morning. Cause I filled up, uh, in Reno out in Sparks, not, not like out by the, uh, on the way out.
Speaker: And it was like 10, 15 cents cheaper. Uh, when I got into California, it was, that was weird. That didn't happen very often. No, it is usually at least a buck cheaper there.
Speaker: Yeah. Up in those mountains where we golf, though, diesel was like almost. Eight bucks. it was um It was almost like nine bucks up there. It was. It was nuts. I was like. o Yeah. all All my friends have diesel trucks and they're all fucking crying right now. Same.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. Well, my buddy has a, ah a, a, a dually new o Ford and I bet my RV gets, well, I'm sure it doesn't get as good gas mileage, but with the price of diesel. Yeah.
Speaker: yeah I mean, it gets, I think he was saying it gets like 1720. twenty um But dude, this fucking truck had like the, a massage chair in it.
Speaker: I've never... like My mind was blown. He's like, yeah, don't worry, man. I hook you up. He starts putting it in this fucking thing. I was like, okay, now I got to... They need those for RVs.
Speaker: I can't... um i I was... I had a lot of envy. It was, uh, it was one of those times where I was just like, Oh yeah, that's a major flex there, dude. That's a major flex, big ass, comfy truck, just smooth ride. And all a sudden, yeah I've never seen that as an option, but maybe it is. either Yeah. I don't think they offer it to me, but yeah, that was cool.
Speaker: Yeah. I had intended to get in the shop on Sunday when I got home, but, uh, ah The first thing he had to do is help Logan fix flat tire on his car, um which I was not thrilled about at two o'clock when it was super hot. But um then I lost all ambition to go in the shop and I also had a nap.
Speaker: But yeah, we had all the kids here. So yeah. Yeah. I knew I was in, you know the body doesn't lie. It was like, I got home. Then my brother and I went to breakfast and then he took off and I went and laid down on the couch with Lynn and she watched TV. And i I racked out for like 45 minutes and i was like, okay, all right, I'm good.
Speaker: And then i was she was like, I'm thinking about going upstairs and taking a nap. And i was like, this a couple hours later. It was like noon. And I was like, okay, I'll go up there and I'll probably sleep. I didn't wake up until 3.30. I was like, oh, whoops. I had like go take a shower and wake up. Otherwise I wouldn't have been going to ice myself out of sleeping for the night.
Speaker: yeah yeah but that's it how was the week though i didn't get much done i did go in the shop and uh for one day but uh it was good i finished that um that button auto um yeah i showed you last last um i didn't finish it i had that's what i wanted to do sunday um but i was playing with um You know how I wanted to to do the laser, deep laser engraving, put a groove, and then, like, put that gold Cerakote? Yes, yes.
Speaker: The problem, I couldn't, well, first of all, I was being, didn't want it to take that long, so I kept, um I was doing the the engraving, but I should have gone deeper, like, because ah it was only maybe not even, probably 10,000 deep. I probably should have gone, like,
Speaker: much deeper than that actually probably was only five south but anyway um i couldn't get it to flow um correctly like i wanted to to just fill in the lines so i think the the ink writer that i have is was probably a little too big i need a really really small one to just fill the grooves i needed of the grooves to be anyways i'm gonna i'm not gonna do that on this blade i was testing on ah on a sample piece But, and the other, the other, I mean, i could i could get it to fill that groove and then sand it The problem is I need to sandblast it because I wanted black with gold.
Speaker: And I can't, mean, i could, I could sand it and it would look perfect. But then I need to sandblast it to do the black finish. And I knew I wasn't going to be able to do the black finish and then do that. Like that's the ideal is you do the black finish and then you just feel the lines and it looks nice and clean.
Speaker: But I couldn't get it to be look clean. So I'm going to bake it. Yeah, you know, you would. But if it was black Cerakoted baking at a 250 would have been fine. It wouldn't have done anything to the black.
Speaker: But yeah, it was the combination. If I was doing a silver finish with gold or something like that, it probably would have been fine to just sand it after. So I'm just shelving that for now and I'll i'll get back to it at some point. but But um yeah, I'm just going to do black with sir the, I'll leave the pivot in the back of the pivot silver and just, you know, it'll look nice. but I'm gonna do that. But I did, I would have finished it today, but I was, it was just a little, there was a tiny little bit of, of like, I'll call it lock rock. um
Speaker: Just a tiny, teeny, tiny little bit. So I ended up um just carbonizing the lock face. and are You know, you're familiar with carbonizing?
Speaker: This is like you take um carbonizer, but for me, I took my engraver with ah with a piece of just ah an old end mill that I had like ground down. So basically, you just have a piece of solid carbide in my engraver.
Speaker: And then I hook a lead to it and run it at 25 volts. And then literally, you just turn it on, you clip ah ah the negative lead to the knife, and it deposits carbide on the face.
Speaker: This is a lot of people do this on lock faces for folders because you're turn you turn your lock face or whatever you're doing this on, you're depositing tungsten carbide onto that surface to make it hard.
Speaker: So a lot of people do that for lock faces so that they don't wear. I was just doing it to get a couple thou of thickness because I was trying to make that lock just a little tighter in it. Oh, okay. all right. it was I got you.
Speaker: Yeah, I was getting to how I, but what I was doing with that, but it it ended up, it just deposited a couple thou worth of carbide and work great. So if you guys are, you know,
Speaker: if it's really, really close and this can't be like 5 thou or 10 thou off, like it's gotta be really, really close. And that was enough to just to make it lock up nicely.
Speaker: So wow yeah, I'll finish that guy tomorrow. I just have to now black anodize the, the frames. Okay. So yeah, that one is red. Oh, and I have to like etch and tumble the blade.
Speaker: But um today I started... um i haven't made... i i was thinking about it today. I haven't made Damascus in a really long time. Like it's been months since I made the...
Speaker: Because the the frame handle buoy, the last one I did, I made that Damascus like a year and a half ago, almost. ah Yeah, about a year and a half ago.
Speaker: So, I mean, I did a little forging to forge it to shape, but I didn't make the Damascus. I haven't made Damascus in a while. It's been probably four months. So I spent the day making Damascus.
Speaker: i Didn't you do it for for the challenge? Oh, you're right. Yeah. But that, okay. You're totally right. I forgot about that one, but that one was so quick. Like it was just random pattern. yeah Like I was going to say you didn't, you haven't made Dennis Damascus. Right. Yeah. So this is like, um, it'll be gradient. I'm actually going to do, i haven't decided, but it's, it's going to be, I'm using air quotes, random pattern, but it's going to be gradient. And I'm probably going to put some like crosshatch patterns in it, but then um flatten it just so I get a whole bunch of movement. And it's going to be really high layer gradient and then kumai.
Speaker: So it'll be a kumai with high layer gradient. You're doing that for folders? This is for folders. Yeah. Okay. So I'm making three folders. um This is the first time, two firsts on this, really minor firsts, but I've always used bolsters.
Speaker: So this is the first knife I'm ever going to do that has no bolsters. It's just copper carbon fiber scales across the whole thing. And I'm using pivot collars, which I've never used before.
Speaker: So well they have, ah and I've ordered copper pivot collars. So, um, They should look pretty cool. So excited to see what those going to look like. ah What's that?
Speaker: think I'm picking up what you're putting down. The look anyways for the collars. it it's say Yeah, it's like a little ring around the pivot. It's got little thickness around the ring to kind of accent.
Speaker: Yeah, it's just, it's a visual accent. That's all it is. So they'll be very coppery um hey not to cut you off but when you first got your fuzzy mic does the and you're talking into it does it stop blowing around does it what every time i talk i could see the back of the mic go it's fucking driving me crazy yeah that'll stop mine doesn't even move anymore probably because it's dusty and full of spit
Speaker: Jared, stop that. It's making me. Jared is stroking his, stroking the furry wall here. man.
Speaker: Anyways. Yeah. But making Damascus was fun, and i will continue tomorrow. Maybe I'll be done by Wednesday to have these um he done. I'm thinking of making another auto with that same Kumai.
Speaker: But yeah. Oh, dude, I got it. I got a funny story. So I was somewhere in Reno and I got a text message from a buddy and he and he's like, hey, how far are you out on orders? And I was like, well, it's kind of a kind of a loaded question there, dude.
Speaker: And I'm like, why? What's up? And he's like, well, I'm thinking about, you know, the doing something for, um, for my daughter for, uh, for Christmas.
Speaker: And I was like, Hey, yeah, I couldn't, I go, I go work. Christmas, 20, 28. This fucking a conversation. And he goes, Hey, just to be clear, this is not for 2027. And, anyways, he he, wanted to, um,
Speaker: to use uh some grip tech and so i i hit up matt and i was like hey but i need to you know put order and blah blah blah and he goes oh yeah i'm sure i can get that out to you by 2030 and i said dude i gotta send you the text message so i clipped the text message out and i sent it to him
Speaker: And I just thought I was just like, okay, touche guys, touche. Fuck you both. But matt anyway, yeah, yeah. Speaker: How long is the actual folder class? It's two days. Two days. Okay. But that one's like, like I hand you shit like profiled scales and a heat treated blade. And, uh, that's how I'm doing those from now on. It's the only way to get it done in two days.
Speaker: Like gotcha to ensure we get it done in two days. Is this the, is this the first random class? No.

Speaker: river fox river blades yep um and he sent me a picture of his design which he's finally starting um getting ready to go because he he he's all in now he got a mill he got you know he got all tooling all right yeah yeah that's good to see but i love the design the design his looks really stellar so we'll see how many how many iterations he has to do every time i do a design like It always goes through a few iterations. So hopefully yeah he doesn't go through a bunch, but he probably will.
Speaker: Oh, and i was talking to our friend Brian Hunt. I will be going to his place in November eyes to teach class.
Speaker: So we nailed those dates down. Yeah. He sent me a message and said, and told me the dates and he goes, man, I'd sure love for you to come crash this class. All right, buddy, let me see what I can do.
Speaker: And the other fun news, the, the weekend I, after I get back from Austria, i got two guys coming to my shop that I'm very excited um to have in the shop.
Speaker: So Mr. Spencer Sanderson and John Norwood are coming to the shop. same Same time? Yeah, yeah yeah both of them.
Speaker: I knew Spencer was coming down and I reached out to John and I said, John, I would really like you to come as well because I, you, you and Spencer, like I'm going to look like a fucking, compared to how the hell are going to fit them in the house? Right. Yeah. Uh, Yeah.
Speaker: That's super exciting, dude. Yeah, we're going to have a great time. I'm sure you're going to stop by. Absolutely. Yeah, but we're trying I'm trying to get them. I think Spencer's still, they're still booking their tickets and stuff like that. But um trying to get them to come for four days, we're going to make Damascus for two days and we're gonna make folders and from that Damascus. So it's going to be a whirlwind. Going to keep those boys busy.
Speaker: Nice. And I'm sure we'll... have some shenanigans as well. Yes. That's shooting and few other things. So we'll have some fun too. Yeah.

Speaker: Um, So yeah, old Hickory Forge, uh, which is John Norwood in third, he did a great build in my, honestly, because we haven't, this is his first video since the new shop. And, uh, my favorite part of his video was the shop tour and the whole too like going, like seeing, you know, yeah how he's doing and what it looks like. And yeah, that was, we were all sitting on the edge of our chair, ah you know, checking out his, uh, you know, his new digs.
Speaker: Um, In number two, one of my, favorite and i will always say he's one of the original YouTubers that I watched when I started, and Green Beetle. Absolutely.
Speaker: Always an amazing storyteller, videographer, and just funny dude. and And for the judge, so the judging for this thing, remember, is is viewer votes.

Speaker: It's about what is the best video. yeah And, uh, so that's, I make it a point because we're all YouTubers and we want to make good videos. Yes. We want to have nice products at the end, but if the video sucks, you're not going to get any views.
Speaker: So, um, Green Beetle always does amazing videos. I mean, and the and even have to he doesn't even have to make anything. I mean, I mean i still, the night block is probably one of my favorite ever. Absolutely. That was the, um which, which one was that? That was making the Viking one. yeah Yeah. Yeah. That was probably one of the funniest videos he's ever did. And he wasn't going to do a video when I kind of coerced him into like, no, dude, you have to do a video.

Speaker: some nice Damascus that had a bunch of like carving kind of in the blade. it was cool. It was a really nice, really good. i I'm super happy for for Steve. um I got a play by play.
Speaker: from the beginning to the very end of messages from him kind of giving me progress on the build. So it was super cool. And yeah. So yeah, that was awesome, Steve. i appreciate you sharing.
Speaker: It's a it came out great and and congratulations. That's really cool. ah In second place, again, this is someone who was, think, I don't remember second or third last time, but Mr. Bob Gore.
Speaker: and Nice. Yeah. His was a really cool build. Had a lot of like cool accents, um the little kind of dots in the blade, and then he repeated those through the the guard and the bolster. It was just, it was a very well done blade.
Speaker: Beautiful Damascus on this one too. Really nice ladder pattern. I think he did a really stellar job. The bolster is fucking really really really cool yeah yeah oh so great job yeah grab um well done yeah and then in first place was um carl clark uh who made this it it just it looks like um a um like a Klingon. To me, it looks like a Klingon blade that has a big guard and just really cool shaped blade, big spike on the back of the pommel. um Just a beautiful blade.

Speaker: That's, um, I, I don't think Tyrell knife works would be where it is if, uh, not for, uh, these challenges. yeah. You know, it it's part of what the cross promotion, like getting viewers from other channels for me, like, and I said it from the beginning, from the first one, being able to be in the same chat conversation with these huge YouTubers, uh, was amazing. And that helped out. We, we still have a, like a general chat. We have a, there's one of our channels called thumbnail think tank. Um,
Speaker: you can bounce, hey, how's this thumbnail? And guys still use it that aren't even in the current channel and say, hey, what do you guys think of this thumbnail? And um yeah, so it's been super useful and, you know, to be able to talk to those folks. And and I love talking to them, you know, bringing the newer channels in as well that were the same size I was or smaller.
Speaker: We saw um JP go from like I think he had 1300 subscribers when yeah we brought him in the first one. And now he's at like 180,000 or something like that. Yep. Yep. I was just going to say, i think for, for equally um to be a part of the bigger challenges, but it was the, the watching the progression of, of the newer channels, get, get the boost and yeah. And get some exposure through it all. Yeah. It's a really cool idea. And i know it took a lot of work, so.

Speaker: Absolutely. i i i would say I use it every single day. It's the workhorse in the shop. I will be using it tomorrow for sure. There we go.
Speaker: I even used my even heat kiln today, even though I didn't heat treat something. Um, I did throw those, uh, that, um, piece of titanium that I wanted to seal the Cerakote.
Speaker: And remember folks, even, even if you want to do something at low temp, you can do it in an even heat. It's super accurate. Uh, and hot tip. If you're going to do that, you got to make sure you change the ramp speed.
Speaker: Don't put it on full, uh, If you're going to be using your oven for tempering, make sure you put the ramp speed to around 400, 500 degrees, which ramps up per hour so that you don't blow past. I've heard people say, oh, I can't.
Speaker: Every time i I set, I try to do tempering, it blows past the temper. That's because you you probably have it on full. You need to put that ramp speed down if you're going to do low temp. Just a tip. But that's how cool even heat kilns are. You can set them up to do low temp, high temp, super high temp. If you're doing stainless, they'll do it all.
Speaker: So get yourself an even heat kiln. Owned and operated since 1948. That's like barely past World War II. It's crazy. ah They've been doing it a long time. They know what they're doing.
Speaker: Yeah, that war got in the way. they They would have started sooner, but they were, you know. Exactly. Participating in America.

Speaker: if it's just, um, electroplated, I'm not sure if it's electroplated. It looks electroplated, but no matter what, it looks amazing. i don't know if it's just gold that he's pressed in there but it's embossed so that's why i'm saying it's probably electroplated ah but the carving in that thing is incredible and true to form like a lot of the blades i think the blade has got a little bit of carving in it too it's got some really high ridges <unk> and it's and it's ah a big chunk of mammoth um i'm assuming it's mammoth um
Speaker: handle the handle spectacular so i love this blade all around it is it's got the maker's mark on the spine too yes that's cool that's that is that's really cool yeah yeah that is a beast a beast is a banger that is a banger that is banger on the build oh he's even got the gold on the uh on the um on the pommel you know on the on the plunge Oh, I didn't grasp that little rope thing on the, yeah, it's that that's what, that's what I was seeing. The little raised thing, until the zoomed in, I didn't see that it was gold, but yeah, it's stellar.
Speaker: Beautiful. Yeah. And everything else is bad-ass. So yeah. Yeah. Well, even though you're kind of making it awkward with all these Brazilians, it's, it's really, really, really awesome stuff. So yeah, I may give you a pass for your, your country crush.

But um the way he was setting this tang, it's like a pronged tang, I guess, into this handle. I just thought it was cool. I've never seen it um And then I started looking at the rest of his stuff and just awesome culinary stuff, beautiful Damascus.
Speaker: And yeah, I just can't believe I, this one has snuck by me for a while. So yeah, I've definitely followed Nate for a while. But the post in question, which is one I saw as well, he's basically split the back of the tang and put little kind of wedges on the almost like Yeah, I can't. Little wedges on. Like a toggle.
Speaker: Yeah, and there's a recess inside the there's a hole at the bottom, which is about the size of those little prongs. And and as he pushes it down, when they and it gets to the bottom, they spread and it locks in place, which is cool. um It's like a mechanical connection. I'm assuming he's doing this.
Speaker: in lieu of a pin, but it's for culinary knife, which most people don't put pins in culinary knives. Some people do, but yeah, it's it's cool idea um for that, you know, for the placement of the tang inside of ah inside of the handle. It certainly locks it in.

Same kind of thing, another little IG, or I mean another little short, but doing the bolsters and the mammoth for that same blade on the water jet, which was cool.
Speaker: very i'm loving it in fact to be doing the um it really really helped me prototype that button lock because if i didn't if i had to do that um those little cutouts in the blade i mean in the frame if i had to do those by hand i would be just hating life uh so being able to do those and like replicate it again because now i just have to like press a button and have the frames cut out um i'd save so much time for and then all of the holes are are you know it's not c and seed but it's close um you know the holes are where i want them all that kind of stuff uh it helps with folders uh so yeah it's cool it's a cool little thing um cool little prototyping uh i i had to respond to someone today and they're like oh that's cool i'm like just
Speaker: Be warned. It's, it's not something that the one I have is not one that you're going to get thinking you're going to be cutting out sheets of blades.
Speaker: Like, yeah, that that's not its sweet spot. Its sweet spot is prototyping and doing like small projects projects. Yeah. yeah And things you want, Oh, I need to cut it I need to do it again. i need to do it again. um you know, because then change, tweak one little thing. That's the real sweet spot of that machine.
Speaker: Gotcha. I mean, it'll cut out blanks, of course, but don't try to cut out a 12 by 18 sheet of blanks because you'd be there for days. I made that mistake for our friend Noah. um And I did cut out two sheets of blanks for him, but cursed many times while doing it.
Speaker: But it takes, you can't, it's not like I said it and forget it. No, because the the machine, um like it takes about 17 hours to cut out a sheet.
Speaker: And ah you're like, oh, yeah, that's no problem. But the machine stops every hour and you have to change the, but like get rid of the old abrasives and put new abrasive in. Ooh.
Speaker: Yeah. So it's going to stop every hour. So for you to do that and it, which is funny, like, okay, if I'm in the shop doing stuff, no big deal during the day, it's just cutting. And I, every once in a while I'll go over and change the abrasives, gotcha but it's a pain in the butt and it takes a long time. And there are times with when you first start with that, yeah and all of this is going to be in my review video, but there's like,
Speaker: There's things that you need to do. You need to clean some of the filters every couple hours of runtime. There's things you need to do. And if you don't do that, there's things that'll happen that aren't good. Like it'll get clogged and it won't cut. And yeah.
Speaker: And which sucks is if you're water jet cutting something and it cuts half of the pattern, you cannot start it at the exact same spot again.
Speaker: That's very difficult. Um, So anyway, I'll go, all of this will be in my, my review video that I'll do in a a couple of months. Gotcha. Right on. Okay. I've learned, the I've learned how to use it. I've learned the sweet spots of this machine and I've learned its limitations.
