Speaker: Yo, welcome to another episode of the Triple T for Knife Makers podcast. I'm your host, Dennis Terrell of Terrell Knife Works. And as always, I have my co-host, Jared Sandoval of Echo Blades with me in the house. Jared, how's it going?

Speaker: I'm doing good. How about yourself, Dennis? I'm good. good. What have you been up to? I haven't talked to you all week. It's been a pretty uneventful week here. ah Life is going on. Apparently I have a bunch of people in my kitchen too right now. So um yeah, it's been just a kind of a blase week for me.

Speaker: So, but that is a little bit of everything. Yeah. little bit of everything. So, well, that's no fun. No, it's all right.

Speaker: I want to know what, what's up with Amazon.

Speaker: um i'm just fucking annoyed at amazon you know sometimes sometimes there's notes on here that'll catch catch my attention most of the stuff dennis says is pretty boring and i'm not really interested but every now and again he'll he'll throw something that piques my interest and this one uh i'm interested in so you have an amazon prime account right I do.

Speaker: You do. So the last fucking four times I have looked, i so this comes down to last week's um Triple T video.

Speaker: I thought I could find the the tannic acid powder. It turns out it's not where I thought it was. Couldn't find it. So Tuesday, when I was looking for it, Tuesday, I go to Amazon and I'm like, fuck it, I can't find going order some new...

Speaker: order it again. Comes up on Amazon. It says it will be delivered tomorrow between 9 a.m. and like fucking noon or 2 p.m. or something like that. I'm like, if you order it in the next two hours, great. Ordered. ah And then it sits in the, and this has happened to me.

Speaker: The reason I'm pissed off is this has happened to me at least four times in the last month or two, where I look at something, it says it's going to be delivered the next day between whatever times.

Speaker: And then it sits in the kind of, oh, it's ordered. And then the next day comes around and goes, and it updates and goes, oh, it will be delivered Monday. So we went from, i ordered it Tuesday. It's going to be here the next day. And now it's here fucking Monday.

Speaker: And now it's Monday and it's still not here.

Speaker: And um that's why Amazon can fuck a dick. Because I'm getting really pissed off at it telling me that something's going to arrive tomorrow and it'd be like...

Speaker: Four days after that or longer. It's really pissing me off. Like I want to call someone and complain, but of course there's no one no one to fucking call and complain to.

Speaker: So yeah. And they normally hit the mark though. i this normally have mark like I'm telling you, this has been like the last four times I've ordered something expecting it to appear tomorrow. And it's been at least three days since then.

Speaker: Like, I don't know what they're doing. And it's it's like bait and switch. As soon as you like order it then the next day it updates and it's like two days later.

Speaker: it's really fucking annoying. I mean, I get, I get the irritation with that for sure. Um, I have not experienced that though. I just ordered something on Friday and did the same thing. You know, if you order it now, it'll be here.

Speaker: You know, this was ridiculous, like between four and six in the morning and, and it showed up with some pomade and a charger for my iPhone, but yeah no Maybe it's just because you're ordering some deep freaking Amazonian coffee extract can mineral for a science project. they never For Memphis, for my grandson, he wanted that she wanted to get something for him. I forget what it was.

Speaker: Same thing. It was supposed to be, what was for his birthday party. was like decorations or something. Oh yeah, it'll be here the next day. It showed up like the Wednesday after the party, which was Saturday. And it was supposed to be here on Friday or something ridiculous.

Speaker: And it's happened to me. It just happened to me again the other day on something else. Yeah, don't get me wrong. I've been screwed over by them. You know, they've ah they've actually like canceled orders on me. Like, oh, no, we don't have this. Sorry.

Speaker: and so Okay, that's that's cool. But but it's it's pretty rare. then Normally they're... Yeah, but i okay, ill I'll balance this out by saying one good thing about Amazon.

Speaker: i don't know that it's actually Amazon, but I'll go into my Jet Drill Press saga. um So I've been talking with Jet tech support. and ah showed them videos of and the guy was really nice even went to my my um instagram and my website and and he was asking me about knives like this the tech sport guy right it's a very personal guy and um okay asked me what i do with the with the drill and all this. And I told him my problem. Why are you being so picky?

Speaker: um Told him all my problem. He even, i replaced the spindle on it. That didn't do anything. I think told you guys. yeah Yeah. And then, and after that, I told him like, it's not a, so it's it's not a run out issue. It's a vibration issue. And I showed him videos of, you know, dropping the quill, raising it up out of the hole,

Speaker: which should be completely clean, right? But the part like totally vibrates because there's so much vibration. You get what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah. It should cleanly come out of the hole. It totally does not. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker: So i've I had the guy on the phone today and I'm like, what's going to happen? He's like, well, You know, I talked to, you know, my lead or whatever, and he's really telling me this is a woodworking drill press, which makes no sense.

Speaker: It's like a $650 drill press and it's only for woodworking. Like it makes no, it still vibrates. The vibration would be worse with wood. um It would make every hole oversized. It's ridiculous. Anyway, so I'm returning it and I get the Amazon guys.

Speaker: I'm chatting with Amazon because now it's three days over the return now. I'm like, you motherfuckers better return it. And they were nice. And they the Amazon guy said, yeah, I know you've been working with support. and Because the the jet guys told me, just return it.

Speaker: It's not working for you. So now I've got to pack this thing up somehow in a box and return it. But plus one for Amazon letting me return it. Oh, yeah, that's cool. Three days passed. Yeah.

Speaker: yeah hu they don't they They don't have a comparable machine to send you? They they only make woodworking drills? or That's almost... That makes me mad. A hole is a hole. It depends on the drill you're using. I totally agree. The bit you're using, not the drill. It's just spinning. What does it matter? It makes no sense.

Speaker: And I can't believe this is coming from Jet. Yeah. So, yeah, they're coming they're kind their comparable drill press that they advise for metal is $1,500. I'm like, I'm not doing that.

Speaker: you You've inspired zero confidence in this drill press. I'm not going to double the price and pay for a new one.

Speaker: said That's maddening. Yeah. yeah that that amazon can unsuck the the fucking glizzy and jet can suck the glitz for that dude that's crazy yeah i'm uh and i put a review up on this thing already and it's it's a piece of garbage i don't know if you do you even use yours and it could just be all the time it could just be like mine is a piece of shit and it vibrates like crazy I don't notice the vibration, but I do know that there's, you know, a bit of, of run out and shit It's not like perfect by any means, but I did replace it with the, I did replace the Chuck and a couple of things, but even Jeff and I were looking at it and you know, when you pull the thing down, i yeah, it's, it's definitely not,

Speaker: perfect but it gets the job done for the for the holes that i drill i don't like i said yeah if you're doing that actually me three sixteenths pin holes it wouldn't matter yeah i mean yeah that's i mean eighth i don't i don't notice much in the eighth inch holes that i drill but i don't ever do anything smaller than that but so yes It's just that if when I'm drilling, know, number 49 holes and I have to go through. I get it for what you do. yeah Yeah, yeah. Tap it and then go through that hole again. It strips out all the threads.

Speaker: That's how much it vibrates. Yeah, that's crazy. So I can't have that. um No. But I did have, and sorry, I forget who reached out to me. Someone reached out me with a recommendation on to get a buck tool um drill press, a buck drill, buck tool drill press.

Speaker: um And and it was it's even cheaper and it's in it's um variable speed. Same like variable speed? yeah Yeah, same variable speed, didn't vibrate, didn't, and you sent me a video and it's super clean in and out. So I might just get that one instead.

Speaker: Or I might just break down and get the the power Z axis for my mil and then Just live with using the mill for for precision holes. Because that's a pain in the ass. Moving the the mill head up and down to put the chuck in it. Yeah.

Speaker: yep But I still don't like doing it. I'd rather have a dedicated, accurate mill. I mean, accurate drill press. You should probably buy a little funky benchtop mill.

Speaker: instead of another drill press for that operation. Probably spend about the same amount of money and then you would still have the rigidity and all the accuracy of versus a... Yeah, but then I'm looking at $800. I don't really want to spend that much money.

Speaker: um If I can get a drill press that will work, because really this is for drilling holes and like counterbores, using counterbores. That's all it's for.

Speaker: You don't think the little central, the Harvard freight bench top mill would work for that? Just that operation? Maybe. I don't know anything about them.

Speaker: And how much are they? I don't know. I, like I said, I bought mine for couple hundred bucks years ago, use which I still don't use, but I haven't used it though. Yeah. It was used. Yeah.

Speaker: I mean, they gotta to be 800

Speaker: You're probably not far off at this point. Yeah. ae Because everything's, you know, a burrito costs fucking 20 bucks now. So. Yeah. And but any is it dial variable speed?

Speaker: Or is belt? It's probably belt. Yeah, i couldn't. eat i I don't know. if I'm sure. I don't know. I'm sure it's probably belts, which gets me back to, might as well just use my Shop Fox stand up, my floor model drill, which is super accurate. It's just a pain in the ass to change the belts.

Speaker: Yeah. I mean. yeah They don't even have it there anymore. Yeah. If it was that, I would buy, i would sell the Shop Fox.

Speaker: I would buy new floor standing drill press that had dial variable speed. It's really, if I can, if I wouldn't have, if I would have looked, to the Shop Fox was like 750. I

Speaker: would have liked to spend 1200 and get a floor model variable speed.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: That's a bummer. Stupid jet.

Speaker: When I've got the guy on the jet guy on the phone and he's like, yeah, well, I mean, I could send you a new one. And I'm like, yeah, then I'm just going to be in this endless loop of getting a new one and not be able to return in and just having headache after headache.

Speaker: No, I'm not up for that. I have zero confidence it's going to be different. I wouldn't either. Yeah. It just seems like it is a... Even the tech guy said there should be a tensioner on the belt because the belt vibrates all around just because it doesn't have a tensioner Oh, yeah. most I was just looking at Grizzly ones, and they have a micro milling machine, and that's $725. Yeah.

Speaker: The one that looks like mine $1,400. That's a bummer. Yeah. So still on the quest for... variable speed drill press that's accurate.

Speaker: so yeah Yeah. Where's the where's the where's the suggestions? Oh, you got the buck tool one, right? Yeah, which I haven't even looked into, but I even, God, I forget who sent me that.

Speaker: I'm sure it's in my messages somewhere. Because I asked, and I even asked whoever it was to like do a video. He sent me a video of, yeah, of of him using it.

Speaker: Anyway. Yeah. Well, if you don't want shitty machines or sub quality knife making parts, you should go check out Lawrence Lake and Maritime Knife Supply. He's got all the good stuff.

Speaker: Everything you need to get making knives from tooling to abrasive steel, you name it, he's got it. And if you can't find it, he'll track it down. Maybe you should freak and put old Lawrence on the, on the hunt for you.

Speaker: be'll track something down for you but uh yeah and you won't pull no uh bitch ass amazon uh you know delays on your shipping too so i'll get it to you nice and quick so uh make sure you go check out a maritime knife supply for all your knife making needs

Speaker: Oh, also, um I was in the shop, when was he yesterday, the day before? ah And I'm standing by my compressor, and I had two compressor things go out.

Speaker: I had my little, um my, fuck, what's it called? the The regulator, the one I used the air tool on, blow. Yeah.

Speaker: which pissed me off because I was in the middle of working on the handle for the Alita sort, which I'll come back to. Yes, please do.

Speaker: um So that so I think I got some bad air compressor juju from you. Because then I went over to the compressor and I was just playing with like the master,

Speaker: um like the air compressor knob on the air compressor. And now the damn thing's leaking at that knob. So I had to turn that Oh, that's bummer. Yeah.

Speaker: And I don't know why. Like I just heard it. I heard a light hiss and it's not stopping. So now I'm ticked off. I didn't do it, but yeah it's a bitch.

Speaker: I think I'm going to take that knob, like unscrew it all the way and see if it's like, do I need to put some Teflon tape on it or whatever the hell I need to do. Yeah.

Speaker: That's a bummer. So I'm getting shoo-shoo retarded flu from you talking. You can't say that. That's a higher reference for all you Yeah. I think that might be the first time it's actually slipped out. i from From you talking about having all your air compressor issues.

Speaker: Yeah. Which I didn't make it out there. I i attempted a couple times, but I just didn't have it in me this week. So whatever.

Speaker: Maybe next week, Jared will actually make some knives. Yeah, it'll be Sunday. I should be out there for sure. It's been hot as shit too. And I'd fucking didn't get in there and turn the air on soon enough. And so I got a long list of excuses for my lack of enthusiasm to, to get something done. The air didn't help either, but that's that it'll happen.

Speaker: I'm not, I'm not worried about it. The, uh, Yeah, but the air is... Yeah, I'm about sick of it too, so... No new hoses stuck in your garage door? No, because they didn't open it, so... fuck it It's still there? It's still sticking out the garage door?

Speaker: No, no. I mean, i got it out, yeah. I thought you were left. No, I didn't just leave it there. No, no, i fit that's how I found out that the it pulled something out of that manifold.

Speaker: Oh. So, but whatever. So you got some traveling this week? Yeah, I yeah that was going to say it's gonna it'll have to be Sunday because I'm leaving tomorrow back up to to Washington for ah work. I don't even know what the weather's going to be like there. I hope it's nice.

Speaker: You only get like four good days of weather there, so hopefully it's the four days that I'm there. so It's always raining. Yeah, I think it rained every single day I was there last time.

Speaker: Pretty much. Oddly enough, to be honest with you though, it's only rained a couple times that I've been there. It's weird. The very first time I went, when we went fishing. And then I made a couple winter trips too. was cold as shit a handful of times, but not really raining. so I think it was in the summer. Last summer, this last trip I went, it actually rained.

Speaker: That was stupid. but uh yeah so i'm gonna um go hang out with uh my buddy steve lockwood and uh his better half beth and um i don't know which days but yeah i'm gonna go do that hopefully we'll get some fishing in um see how it goes he said he was uh Apparently the the salmon run very sporadic this time of year. the The end of August, I guess, is the – they start really hammering them in. But he said it was good last week, but it kind of died down. So we'll see.

Speaker: But that's always good to see, Steve. On heat, temperature? what's i don't get it. I have no idea. have no idea what makes them go. But –

Speaker: That'll be fun. It'd be good to see him anyways. I didn't catch him last time I was there in March. So, uh, and then supposed to possibly maybe go hook up with our buddy, uh, Mareko and, uh, grab some dinner or something like that.

Speaker: And then a bunch of work. So, It's my life right now. Vancouver, Washington? is that where you... Yes. Yeah, yeah. That's where the office is. Which is like south-south, right?

Speaker: Basically across like across the bridge from... Across the Columbia from Portland.

Speaker: I fly into Portland. It's like 10, 15 minutes to... Yeah, so you're going to be over there. Like almost two hours think about an hour and a half. Yeah, hour and a half to Morocco, right?

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. Something like that. To Olympia.

Speaker: And i don't think there's shit in between. No. Well, there's a bunch of shitty little towns, but... you Oh, like changing you flew into Seattle or Portland?

Speaker: I flew into Seattle, but I went all the way down to see Steve first and spent two days with Steve and then went to Morocco's and then... Oh, then to Dave's. Then to Dave's.

Speaker: Gotcha. Gotcha.

Speaker: Right? Yes. Morecco then Dave. ah You should have flew to Portland first. let's say i didn't even think of having that that just saved you a fuck ton of driving it's literally uh yeah but then no the the issue with that is that then i would have had to fly into portland rent a car and return it to seattle which would have been shitty that's that's always a nightmare and cost you more i've never and i've never done it so yeah don't do that

Speaker: They charge you like $250, $300 when you do the extra when you do that. To not bring it back to the same spot? Yeah, yeah. Gotcha.

Speaker: It's not good. Cool.

Speaker: Right on. So...

Speaker: ah but led that What are you laughing...

Speaker: Ah, there's only been a handful. i can't even recall another one where you've text me, like, call me now. It's either something, something big happening or, you know, you know, something good, but it's never been like, this is hilarious. Call me right now.

Speaker: And if it is, it's probably really funny to you and not funny to me. But this time, man you did not disappoint.

Speaker: You did not disappoint with your own. I guess on the heels of that big ass piece of Ambronia, that cracked me up. but

Speaker: So for those that haven't seen the IG video, have And i I said in the, I've done a few posts on the sword I'm making for the Sci-Fi Challenge.

Speaker: And I'm doing the sword from ah the movie Alita Battle Angel. And it's got a very weird futuristic looking handle on this sword. Okay.

Speaker: it It's just very phallic. Well, it doesn't look like that when you see it on the sword. But, and it's and and it's black. So I have this big piece of black Delrin, which is like a plastic.

Speaker: I'll go into that. And so I've shaped it and I have 3D printed, because I found 3D print files, a version of the handle. So I'm trying to make this perfectly, like perfect to the handle.

Speaker: sir um And it's it's pretty close. So I'm working on this thing and I've shaped and I've ground it and like I've literally like been handling this this handle for two days.

Speaker: None of this goes through my mind. And then i I've done all the grinding and now I'm like, okay, I need to do some hand filing to finish it off. And of course I'm videoing this whole thing. So this is the first time I i set up the camera because I always file with it kind of, you know, in my lap.

Speaker: and I'm showing the video of me filing this thing, set up the camera, and then as I'm filing, I look up at the camera to what everyone else is gonna see.

Speaker: And there's this giant black handle that looks like a big dick. Big black dick pointed out of my crotch and I am filing away.

Speaker: And I think it is the most disturbing thing I've ever seen. And even the end of the handle has got a hole in it. where Because it's a through tang.

Speaker: ah it's even got a penis hole in the end of the handle.

Speaker: You put a urethra in it.

Speaker: So immediately text Jared and tell him. yeah so I am dead. i am crying right now because like this is what I see. And he's just fucking cranking away. fucking okay Yeah. So you ever see those sites like accidental porn this way? Yeah.

Speaker: No, I haven't seen accidental porn, but dude, I have now because good God, that was hilarious. Yeah. So I have to, I'm going to have to put that clip like some kind of comedy in the in the video. A hundred percent. If you don't, that's that's a miss. That's a big miss, especially after now.

Speaker: Oh, You'll shoot your eye out with that thing, man. Yeah. It was good. Yeah. So what it it was pretty funny. And it makes a mess?

Speaker: I've used Delrin...

Speaker: Delrin is a really, it's a very strange, have you ever used Delrin? I have no idea what it is. You keep saying it like I should know. so It's popular in machining world um because Delrin is, it's very heat resistant, which is odd because it's a plastic and it's used for bearings. Like it's it stands up really well to like, to use. like Friction? You can beat the shit. out of it it oh go up That's right.

Speaker: Right? um But I've never, and it mills really well. it's It's great for machining, but it's plastic.

Speaker: And so it floats on water, so I got it in my, like, my Swarf bucket, and it's just making a fucking mess because, you know, I shouldn't have had that. I should have had the dust collection. It's all, it was all over my shop. It's because it's very light. It's, like, static. It sticks to everything. oh wow.

Speaker: I was, like, i basically had to vacuum, like, vacuum clean all of my grinders. Like, it was a mess. my My mill, because I had to mill some of it, it was, oh my God, it was a mess.

Speaker: Even Kim came into the shop and she's like, what the hell happened out here? Was that while you were filing or after?

Speaker: She saw the the video and she came into the shop as soon as she got home and she's like, so you're playing with your toys out here, huh? Yeah. Yeah, it's a filter, Jared.

Speaker: But i am I am happy with how the sword and the handle is coming along. it I'm pretty close. I'm in the finish work now. You can't say that.

Speaker: I'm just about to finish it You're just about to finish it.

Speaker: Yeah. But I took a break to finish the the folder that i'm working on because I want to take the folder to to Mike and Rick. I want to show them that. Bro, do you think ah do you think Frank should make a ah big ah a big peen out of some Delrin?

Speaker: no he should make it out of steel i've asked him a few times to get uh a real big peen hammer but uh i'm still waiting but if you guys need a hammer for forging uh you need to go talk to frank at two bastards texas smithian supplies you can check him out it on facebook and instagram um Check him out. Go check out the all of the peens, the straight peen, cross peen.

Speaker: you know He has even has hammers that have no peens. Dude, the zero peen. love it. The non-peen. The peenless. Go check him out. The peenless. That's good. The peenless.

Speaker: and Go check them out because ain't it grand to have a fat peen in your lap while you're filing. That's right. If you want to be a fiend for the peen like Dennis, go go get yourself a fat peen.

Speaker: That's good stuff. Where are they at? Texas Smithy and Supply? Did you already say that? Yes, I did. Okay, good deal. All right. Yeah, but I'm off to take that folder class at Rick's this week.

Speaker: I am bummed. I'm going to miss that. Yeah. um but mom's gonna Like I said, i was have no intentions on like... really crashing the party, but I was going to go up there and, and, uh, and stop by and hang out for a few hours doing other things, but it's not going work out. So bummer. yes When you leave Thursday morning, but I'm stopping in Lodi to, uh, have brunch with a, an old friend.

Speaker: Um, uh, so yeah, but I'll probably be there in the afternoon, probably just after lunch. And, yeah, we're going to get started Friday, and then it's like Friday, Saturday, Sunday. i think we're going to do two and a half, three days, whatever whatever we need.

Speaker: And we're getting lucky in the weather. It could have been fucking 100 degrees. Last weekend would have probably been. Oh, would have done us in. Because he's got no air conditioning in his shop, so it would have been just brutal. He didn't have air conditioning the house either.

Speaker: uh yeah he's got like a window one in a couple of rooms and hit in his yeah yeah i remember one year i think it was when we did the uh the throwing knife challenge yeah that fucking yeah we fucking i'm not used to that i'm not used to that because you know there's some places i grew up in a house that didn't have ac i was just thinking about that the other day in hayward but uh Yeah.

Speaker: Take that for granted until you're like stuck and there's nothing you can do. You just, there

Speaker: but yeah, that's cool. And what class is it again? What are you doing? It is a auto bolster release auto. Nice. So yeah, we're going to be playing with those. So should come back with a completed or probably a semi-completed knife.

Speaker: As long as the action's down. Yeah, don't come back with a semi. ah Yeah, as long as the action works and you know whether the blade is ground or anything that. I prefer to grind the blade at home when it's you know on my own grinder. What grinder do you use?

Speaker: i Of course I use an Ameribraid. The Fastback

Speaker: I just love that grinder so I want to grind my knife on an Ameribraid and you guys should too. Use the discount code TTT10 for 10% off abrasives and use discount code TTT for a discount on machines and go check them out.

Speaker: Get one, get all the accessories, especially their Surface grinding attachment, which is probably the best on the market. Rotary platen. Rotary platen, yeah.

Speaker: I actually had an... had some but I thought it was one of the bearings go on my rotary platen, but it just that the bearing um was moving inside. it was like it was the bearing was offset. I just had to like hammer it down. Tighten the tension?

Speaker: Yeah. Oh, no, you actually had to. Yeah, I had to like recenter the like the bearings were be coming off center, which was then. um it was It was weird because it was heating up so much I had to throw water on the on the the thing to cool it down. And then I the chiller too, the the the backing chiller plate for those two.

Speaker: Yeah. You got everything. Yeah. I'm sure it was just a missy. I probably, i was definitely had it going too fast. I think I had that thing on like six or something like that.

Speaker: It's probably not meant to go that fast on the rotary one. No.

Speaker: so yeah Go google get yourself in Ameribraid, Ameribraid.com. You won't regret it. but You will not. Yeah, so folders, folders, folders. um I will be hopefully tomorrow, maybe Wednesday.

Speaker: I'm hoping tomorrow I will be finished this new folder design that I'm working on. which I'm calling the Oceanic. um And I'm excited to etch that Damascus pattern, which is the one from that that big buoy, the wing Damascus.

Speaker: That's the one that you showed me? Yes. Not too long ago? Yes, yes, yes. Oceanic, huh? Getting back to that, it's this blade, this one. Oh, you're blurry, but yeah.

Speaker: But yeah, and I'm doing the laser etched engraved bolsters for this one. Oh, your AI cheater patterns? That's right. those Yeah.

Speaker: But it's it's beautiful. and'm I'm really happy with this one so far.

Speaker: So it will be cool to get this one done and out there. I'm probably going do another one of these that has Damascus bolsters, the matching Damascus bolsters as the blade.

Speaker: And I think I'm going to do Mammoth Molar Scales. So that should look pretty spivvy. have some blue Mammoth Molar Scales.

Speaker: Blue? Yeah. They're very bluish. And then I might anodize the liners blue as well. haven't diamond done haven't played too much with anodizing other than black.

Speaker: So I might try some some blue again. That'd be cool. Yeah. then I'm thinking I might do some gold electroplated screws.

Speaker: So it'd be blue and gold.

Speaker: Warriors, let's go. I knew you were going to come up with sports card. But, yeah. And then, yeah, and then I got to start figuring out what I'm going to bring for Austria beyond these two folders. Oh, my God. Yeah, that's coming quick. Less than two months.

Speaker: How long is it? How long are you gone for? Like 10 days.

Speaker: That's what, middle of august October? End. End. End. Well, the twenty we leave the 21st and we come back on the 31st. Oh, you're traveling on Halloween, huh?

Speaker: Yeah, our flight is on Halloween, actually. So... Yeah. And I got a message from American Airlines. I got to rebook my flight because they... The...

Speaker: They now changed my, the Munich flight lands at 3 PM and my connection leaves at 1 PM.

Speaker: Yeah, that's not going to work. No. So, uh, yeah, I don't know. I got figure what I'm going to And my wife still wants premium economy seats, which are super expensive. So yeah, they are.

Speaker: When I was messing around with going to Japan with my brother, He was telling me that he got his flights for, I don't know, $1,500 round trip to Japan. And I'm like, okay, that's not bad. Maybe I can, yeah.

Speaker: And then I went and looked them up. And of course I did the premium and they were like four grand. Yeah. And I was like, yeah, what are you tripping, dude? You know, he's like, no, man, I just looked at him and I'm like, you gotta be out of your mind. I five, six hours max is my, like my limit.

Speaker: It's just, I mean, I think one of the back East flights was like five and a half, almost six hours. And I just about lost my mind. And so there's no way I'm going 11 hours all cramped up in a little small seat. So, you know, I'm with her on that.

Speaker: You're going to do it. You might as well go and go over there. The ones we're looking at just the, just the return flight. Cause we've already played it paid the one way there. Cause we're flying two different airports. Just the return flight is going to be, 1600 person.

Speaker: each

Speaker: But that's what the upgrade. Yeah, that's the premium economy. Yeah. No, it might be 1,800. Sorry, 1,800. But I think that's British Airways.

Speaker: So it'll be Munich to Heathrow and then Heathrow to SF.

Speaker: So that's a really long flight.

Speaker: What's the longest flight you've been on? um Like single flight or trip? I don't care. So I have big numbers here. I've flown to India and that is bullshit flight.

Speaker: That is two. It was San Francisco to Frankfurt and then Frankfurt to

Speaker: not Hyderabad. Where was I? I forget the city. the other big so The other big tech city, Bangalore.

Speaker: So it's like an 11 hour flight followed by like a 10 hour flight. Oh my God.

Speaker: Yeah. Well, that was what that was when you did the first class for that trip? um Did I do first class? I did. um Yes, i did fly first class.

Speaker: um But that wasn't the best flight I've ever been on is the one when I ever flew to Barcelona.

Speaker: because i got like the lay down pod seats oh okay those are awesome i've never yeah those are awesome you get like a god that's so much time two inch comforter um like you get like a full size comforter when you get on the flight like they just hand it to you and it was amazing that you slept on that one um i think i did for like ah an hour or two because it's like the whole thing lays down like it's bad like lays down perfectly horizontal like not even a chair like it's a bed

Speaker: yeah it's pretty awesome yeah all right well yeah i don't know well good for you i'm telling you don't ever apply first class because then Which is what my boss told me. he goes, because I asked him, like, can I fly first class? And he's like, well, the only downside is you're never going want to fly coach again.

Speaker: But, yeah. Come on. Are they flying you first class to Washington? Aren't you the big chief? For an hour, hour what is it? It's like an hour and 30 minutes?

Speaker: No. Yeah, it's not worth it. Even we had a policy, even Oracle had a policy, unless it was first class for directors and above was only, it had to be over six hours, I think.

Speaker: and It only makes sense. That's just a giant waste of money for for anything less than that. Yeah. So anywhere in the country, you couldn't do it.

Speaker: You had be flying like internationally. I think I gotta go back to I gotta San Antonio at the end of September for work too so not first class I don't know anybody in San Antonio do you know anyone who do we know anybody in San Antonio?

Speaker: I feel like I do

Speaker: no I definitely and I'm losing who it is but I definitely know someone in San Antonio

Speaker: We know someone in San Antonio. I know. i just, it's, I'm coming up short on that. Cause I could, I was trying to book the flight and I was like, man, maybe I'll go out early and go hang out with somebody, but I can't, I don't know if you're out there, let me know if you all work something out.

Speaker: We know so many people in Texas. I can't believe we wouldn't know someone in San Antonio. That's a, yeah, that's like, it's a big ass state, dude. It's a big ass state. So is California, but we don't know that many people here

Speaker: We probably know more knife makers in other states than we do in our own state.

Speaker: Maybe.

Speaker: know a lot of people in the Fort Worth area. Anyways. Yeah. um Yeah. All right. You know what we got to get to someday? up to Boone, North Carolina to visit Mr. Baker himself at Baker Forge and Tool. I would really love to go check out of their facility and see how, how it's made. i want to see how the, how the sausage is made.

Speaker: and if you guys need some, uh, you need some, uh, premium steel, go check out Baker Forge and Tool or check it out on the app. even better because you'll get a discount and you'll get early access.

Speaker: um But check it out while you're there. Pick up some Gator Piss, some Grime Reaper, and of course some Gator Skin. And use the discount code TTT10 and get yourself 10% off.

Speaker: Yeah. And we got Sunset Gomai in Wavy and Raindrop. this That's a good one. Yeah.

Speaker: Apparently, I only clipped the link in the bio into the notes, so I just noticed that, but that's that's what it is.

Speaker: That's a cool pattern.

Speaker: Yeah, that's one of my favorites. Is that thought is that a like a ripple one? It's a wavy Yeah, though way the wavy one. I don't know. They have a bunch of different names for ones that, to me, look wavy or ripply.

Speaker: I never can remember what the difference between wavy Ripley and yeah, Chevron. And I never remember, but they all look awesome. So it doesn't matter.

Speaker: That's right. So go check it out.

Speaker: But, uh, did you say it? What's that? Cause if you said it, I didn't hear it. Did you clean it out shit and protect it? I know, but you, everyone should, that's what they should do. That's right.

Speaker: absolutely That's a move. That's a move. Use the discount code. And then you could use the app, too, and you can get one day early apps. AppSest. Yes!

Speaker: i Just leave it to me. I knew I could not mess it up. You could use the app for early access one day for all of their wavy, ripply, chevron, curly pattern, awesome steel patterns.

Speaker: Even the numbered ones that Dennis hates. Yes, even those I've been seeing them one of the numbered ones come up in a long time. Yeah

Speaker: All right Alrighty um Well, you guys, when you guys get that steel, you're going to need heat treat it. You guys should go check out Even Heat Kilns.

Speaker: Family owned and operated since 1948, having the best heat treating kilns on the market. i was delighted to be able to use the big kiln last week, well, couple weeks ago.

Speaker: i' Super fun getting that thing running. And such a joy to be able to have a big kiln like that to do swords. But if you guys just need a little small one to do small knives, they got those too. So they got them all. Check them out at Even Heat Kilns.

Speaker: cool

Speaker: Jared's just dropping things because he's so excited about having two Even Heat Kilns in the shop. I can't control myself. I just throw shit.

Speaker: Oh, we have a listener question.

Speaker: It's for you. It's for me. I'm going to stay out of it completely. Oh, this is an easy one. The question is, what equipment do you need to get set up to start a YouTube channel and suggestions for getting started? What do you need?

Speaker: phone. That's what you need. A phone and a tripod. Get a phone and a tripod. That's all you need to get started. The the biggest thing that you need is um just ah enthusiasm.

Speaker: Like you need to actually get started. I've talked to so many people that ask me this question and then it's just... like delay of game like they just don't i don't know you just got to do it and they're like oh but i want it to be like they think like ah they want to wait because they want their first video to be like the best video ever your first 10 videos at least are gonna suck so get those 10 videos out of the way and just keep doing it you're not gonna get good at it until you do it so don't think that you know there's you're probably gonna get

Speaker: whatever, 10 views on your first few videos. So just get those out of the way and get better and do more stuff. That's what you need. That's the best way to get started is just to do it and, uh, and be consistent and keep Consistent. That's, that's my, I was going to say, that's the one thing that I think, well, I mean, there's a bunch of things, but whatever, but that's one of the things that I,

Speaker: that I admire most about your efforts in YouTube, even over the last year or so when it's not been like it was when you were on that fucking mega rise, but you're you're consistent. Like, and I think that's the most important thing.

Speaker: Yeah, I mean, for me, like, I don't think YouTube is the big moneymaker anymore, but it is, it's kind of part of the identity now. So I kind of, I'll do it for that.

Speaker: i And keep doing videos and, you know, that's kind of how i stay relevant as opposed to just, you know, it's not like the big moneymaker.

Speaker: um But anyway, um yeah, you do excited get out there and do it. But long form, I think long form YouTube knife making videos are, I mean, are tough.

Speaker: um i don't um I don't know that they're getting the attention that they used to. I think the short form is starting to be more attractive to viewers that just want the one or two minute gratification.

Speaker: i mean, there's always people who want to watch the long form, but. Yeah, I'll tell you what, the the YouTube shorts, there if there's any social media platform that just like gets in my wheelhouse on a death scroll, it's the YouTube shorts.

Speaker: like Really? i'll start I'll start, like I'll click one of those things, because you know I have channels that i i I'll go to and watch. and But if I get caught in clicking a short and then just kind of start to flick through, bro, they hit.

Speaker: For me, it's it it covers all my bases from everything I'm into, from the the most the dumbest things to the coolest things to you know the funny things. to Yeah, I don't know what they got, but they that shit locks me in. I have no problem...

Speaker: getting through Instagram or Facebook, I'll see one or two things. I'm like, I got stupid, but I will get stuck on, on YouTube shorts. See, that is not in my rotation. I'll say like, I'll go to Facebook and somehow I'll get hooked into like reels on, on either Facebook or or, Instagram and I'll do the doom scroll for a while. But for some reason, I don't, I don't pick up YouTube and go to shorts and go through that.

Speaker: Oh, you're missing out. like i don't how many How many channels do you just subscribe to? like and what like is it because I don't know as Maybe as as a creator, you're you're not... that's not what you use it for. So maybe you don't use it for that, but like there's, I mean, everything is on YouTube, right? I mean, that's, that's the one short thing about it, but it, I don't know if they, because of everything that I'm subscribed to, which is like, is diverse as my music selection. So it's like, it's all over the place and the shorts and when they get that fricking algorithm going for me, I'm just, I'm like, I can't stop. It's like crack. It's like, I'm done.

Speaker: No, almost all my YouTube subscriptions are knife-making stuff or like machining. I don't have anything it. There's no diving or fucking like all the other shit that you've done. so I keep YouTube just for like night. like That's the only thing I look at on on YouTube.

Speaker: Oh, yeah. that's I think you're missing out then. Yeah, I mean, it's just because I don't find myself going to YouTube Shorts personally. Yeah. When I want to look at, like, I'll go to Reels on Instagram or on Facebook.

Speaker: Yeah. I don't know why. Just... I, I, it's new for me. Like I said, it's, it's totally new for me. Maybe I'll have to try it. They, they, they hit it out of the park with me every time. So I'll waste a good, good portion of my life that day. fuck If I get, I going on it. So, yeah, I mean, maybe I should do more, uh, short form, uh,

Speaker: um youtube if you're not cross cross posting oh i mean i do but only um like i don't know i don't the the stuff i put on youtube is usually a little more serious like i don't put any like funny like i didn't put the the uh elitist or thing on youtube but um the one i showed you But I mean, any of the little previews of like knives and stuff like that that I do, that you'll see on Instagram, those all go on YouTube.

Speaker: But it's just like showing a knife or something like that. I don't i don't do making short form making videos. Does that make sense? No, it does. But I'm saying I i think you you might want to.

Speaker: dabble around in that. Yeah. I mean, it takes a couple seconds. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, link it into your, yeah, I probably should do other stuff. It's just that the, I don't, it's like a paradigm shift for me because all of the content that I take for YouTube is all on the camera and that never gets to my phone. So I would have to now take all the same content with my phone.

Speaker: Um, And now I'm like, ugh, I want to do all that. and And now be moving to... I get that. to don um Yeah, 100%.

Speaker: I understand that, dude. That's why haven't I haven't done it in a long time because that shit gets yeah boring. Even making the same reel and then cross-posting it to here, to here, here. It's like, ugh.

Speaker: Yeah. And I still have never seen a good piece of software that will cross-post across... youtube instagram facebook like if you you know what annoys the out of me actually and i haven't found a way to do this is i want a link my instagram to my facebook page not my because it only links to my personal account on facebook same which is annoying the on me because i want it to go to my page on facebook

Speaker: And I want everything that I post on Instagram to auto go to my page, but it goes to my personal account. There's gotta be some way to do it through that MetaSuites thing. But yeah, I have the same problem.

Speaker: Yeah, I could not figure out how to do it. Because all my knife stop and and knife stuff ends up on my personal page. um And I used to say, oh, I don't accept friend requests.

Speaker: on my personal page unless I've like literally met the person and we're friends but I've kind of had to soften that rule because I do so much knife content on my personal page but the struggles of social media

Speaker: yeah but yeah to answer Keith Tonesings we never gonna get his name right and fucking had it I had the thing up because he told me how to say it one time.

Speaker: Tonesing. That's how I'm saying it. Tonesing. you're you're You're writer than I am right now. and I'm looking at it. I'm like, there's only one way to say that. Tonesing.

Speaker: um yeah you YouTube, you just got to get started and figure out whether you're mostly going to do short form, long form, or both. But they're very different.

Speaker: Um, Oh, it's pronounced tensing tensing. The O is silent.

Speaker: That's what he says. I don't know how anyone was supposed to know that, but. um I guess you just got to ask. Yeah. Or fuck his name up in a podcast and he'll correct you. um Yeah, I think on the the tough part of YouTube is all of the the long form is going to be in landscape format and all of the um the short form is going to be in portrait.

Speaker: so that's just a big pain in the ass and it's really it never works out to take widescreen format and try to format it for uh short form content it just looks like unless you spend a lot of time re-centering every video and yeah it's no fun so cool all righty um should we do some maker spotlights sure All right, I actually had one um sent to me by my buddy Jeff Brumbaugh. um

Speaker: He said, hey, look at this knife. And it is from Bohovych. um um I'm going to butcher this, but B-O-H-O-V-Y-C-H knives.

Speaker: Bohovych knives. And and The one he sent me is the first pinned one. In fact, I think all three pinned ones are the, no, the first and the last and the third.

Speaker: But if you look at it, I don't know if it's just the um

Speaker: the the lighting, but it's like the Damascus, it's almost like a like a weird brown color.

Speaker: but like done on purpose. It's very, but it matches the handle. um or it's just the lighting. I don't know, but it's bizarre. But it, I mean, the handle's amazing. The handle that is really what set it off for me on the first one. But amazing stuff, like from really, really amazing Damascus.

Speaker: A lot of like complex mosaics with edge bars, which are, really, really hard. You start adding edge bars, meaning you take, you do a conflict.

Speaker: What's... I'm sorry. One of the comments on one of these knives is, how in the... What is this? How the fuck in the name of Bruce Lee did you do that?

Speaker: do it That is fucking fantastic. I... I don't mean to cut you off like that, but I think that's a freaking fantastic. That about sums up a lot of these.

Speaker: um Yeah. I almost want to call bullshit. i No disrespect to this maker in any way. I don't know who who he is, where he's from, what he's doing, but it almost is is so unique and over the top fucking ridiculously awesome that I almost want to call bullshit.

Speaker: yeah i have no idea how he could do it because yeah how in the fuck and some of the it's definitely um it's lighting but some of it it's like the damascus looks white but it's the the shine of the 15 and 20 um it looks blue too i see yeah but i think there's some hot salting in here if i had to guess with those colors um Because that's that's what hot salting can do is turn on turn in those, or it's a heat treatment, like a heat.

Speaker: But it's it's amazing, amazing, amazing stuff. The guy's a wizard. But back to what I was saying, like the the mosaic and to put a ah forge weld bar that is going to be And a lot of times he's doing it both on the cutting edge on the spine.

Speaker: That means that blade has to be forged perfectly lead to shape so that you don't grind off those edge bars and make them look goofy. So it makes the construction 10 times harder when you double edge bars like that.

Speaker: And almost all of the ones we're seeing on on the page there have edge bars. So we'll just really, really amazing stuff.

Speaker: it makes me want to do an edge bar again on my next build. My last one had an edge bar, but was not executed as well as these are by any means.

Speaker: But he has got under followers, um but just incredible stuff Yeah, that's ridiculous.

Speaker: Yeah, and and the handle work especially. Like, we're seeing a lot of just the blades, but the handle work on that first pin one is... Yeah, that is that is really cool.

Speaker: That is really cool.

Speaker: And who do you have? um I have ah Patrick over at P underscore harp underscore designs.

Speaker: I think I ran into, came across his table. i think it was Blade Show West in Utah a couple years back.

Speaker: And he looks familiar. Like talked him before. Really cool dude. um And just makes awesome stuff.

Speaker: And i went back through and I swore that I had... um featured him before, but apparently I have not.

Speaker: So thought I thought I'd do that now. So he has 2,842 just makes a well-rounded

Speaker: it just makes a well-rounded style of knives, fixed blades, EDCs, kitchen, but all really, really cool stuff and really cool dude. So just if you're not following him, go check him out and tell him the boys at Triple T. So what's up?

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. He does a lot of stuff. So I see some EDCs in here. Some cool Damascus. I see a K bar. Some big buoys.

Speaker: Yeah, I think he won the... Oh, yeah, he won the Moran Award.

Speaker: Yeah. Did he get journeyman? Is that what I'm seeing? Yeah, he has journeyman in 26. So this year he got his journeyman. Yeah.

Speaker: very cool congratulations yeah so it's all forged yeah yeah good good stuff so good dude um where's he gonna say if you're not following him go check him out doesn't say yeah that's a good one

Speaker: yeah i don't know where he's from about let me see i want to say las vegas

Speaker: I don't see. If remember correctly, but maybe I'm wrong. It doesn't say.

Speaker: At least I don't see it quickly scanning his page where he's from. No, it doesn't say.
