Speaker: I guess it was a long weekend and I have not recovered yet. I guess not. How are you? I'm good. yeah I'm good. Did you have a good Labor Day?
Speaker: ah yeah Overall, yeah. I think the worst part about it is it's it it ended too quick, but. Yeah, I had a good break. It was nice. What did you do?
Speaker: ah golfed. You golfed. Of course you golfed. Of course. Anything interesting besides golf? I golfed. I golfed really bad. and see that makes me happy. Yeah, I can imagine.
Speaker: And then, yeah, I hung out with my wife and took it low key. Got in the shop, bunched too. So it was good. it was i I really had a great great overall weekend.
Speaker: so Nice. Relaxing? Yes. You had to think about it. You weren't sure. Yeah. It was a little frustrating, but overall, yeah, it was nice and relaxing.
Speaker: Good.
Speaker: what'd you get into you went and flow to your like transient on the fucking delta oh no you went up to some lake huh yeah i know were at mcclure uh it was really good I basically sat my ass on the houseboat.
Speaker: I didn't even go on the ski boat the entire weekend. i didn't I took one little cruise on the jet skis for like 20 minutes. Other than that, I just sat around and actually i got up early and fished every morning and and I fished pretty much every evening. So I caught a shit ton of fish, tons of bass.
Speaker: Yeah, that part was awesome. Yeah, it was just, it was a good relaxing weekend, hanging out with friends and caught two monster catfish right off the houseboat. Oh, a picture of a catfish.
Speaker: Yeah, actually, one of my friends once posted it and tagged me in it. Yeah. I mean, monster, it was like a, what, a five or six pound catfish. was pretty good for a catfish.
Speaker: um Yeah, it was fun. we What's that? So there's some ugly ass fish. Yeah. Yeah. People are like, why didn't you clean and eat it? I'm like, uh, because it's a catfish.
Speaker: Exactly. I'm not a big catfish fan and cleaning them is like, no, thank you. Any fish you can catch with a hot dog is and carp and catfish.
Speaker: Yeah. Oh, carp's such good. Yes. Hmm. Hmm. The bottom fingers unite. And actually, it was great because it wasn't like crazy hot. It was like low 80s, mid eighty s during the day.
Speaker: At night, it was pretty cool, which is a nice change from like usually every time we go to the house, but it's like fucking 102 and we're dying. um So, yeah, it was it was a little cool at night, but it was all right.
Speaker: Yeah. And you came home what, Sunday or Monday? I came home, monday I was home by noon on Monday. Okay. Cause it was kind of, it was a little warm on Monday. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: No, I got out of, wanted to get out of there and actually I wanted to do some work in the shop on, uh, on Monday to, uh, to make some progress on this knife I was doing. So.
Speaker: Hmm. um Yeah. The time's ticking before Austria, so I got to get some knives done. When do you leave?
Speaker: ah October 21st. Yeah, around six weeks. ah yeah I was hoping to get ah batch of folders and then another Damascus folder. And now I'm like, oh, I know that's going to happen.
Speaker: um And I'm teaching two classes before now and then. One of them is a four day class and one of them is a two day class. So that's really going to cut in my time.
Speaker: Four day. Yeah. And I'm away. We have a three day weekend this weekend too. So, uh, cause we're camping in Reno. So, uh, there's another.
Speaker: so do I. Yeah. But, um, yeah, we'll see. But yeah, umm I finished that.
Speaker: Did you see the picture of that blue, um the blue anodized one? I did. Yeah, that one came out really nice. I was really happy with that one.
Speaker: The Damascus front and back bolsters and the blue anodized liners and stuff. Yeah, that one came out really nice. I think that's probably the nicest folder I've done yet.
Speaker: um So that one will be available in in Austria. Did you post that or am I just tripping that I saw it? No, I posted it. I posted a video of it.
Speaker: with them With the mammoth molar? Yeah. Oh, okay. I don't see that being blue anodized. Yeah, the scales, the liners and the clip are blue. Oh, I see it. Okay, yep. It's it's hard to tell in the like natural light.
Speaker: And that's all engraving on the bolster in the bolsters? No, that's Damascus.
Speaker: Because it looks exactly like the blade. I was going to say, you are a crafty individual, sir. It does look like that because it's the same as the Yeah, that one came out really good.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So that one, this one that I have in my hand, which is the the button lock, button release auto, which I finally, I think I've mastered.
Speaker: um It's really snappy and yeah, I just got some finished work on this to do and grind the blade and that kind of ship and all the mechanisms working. Is that a different profile?
Speaker: It's the same one as the one I just did. It's just a little larger. The blade's slightly different shape just because of the the button lock. But it's the same, generally the same. I like that. That that looks good. The little skeletonized thing.
Speaker: Yeah. really It looks nicer when it's actually contoured. From you. What's that? I said it's a different look than I would expect from you.
Speaker: Yeah. The skeletonized, you know, appearance. But it looks really good. Thank you. Yeah, I mean, the reason I wanted to skeletonize is because I want to be able to, so the next one is going to be Damascus, so I want to be able to see the Damascus in through the frames.
Speaker: I could see into your mind's eye. That's right. See where you're going with that, sir. Yeah. So, yeah. But the action on it's really nice. That's snappy.
Speaker: I had to, I learned a lot. LAUGHTER ah Ladies and gentlemen, that is Dennis saying he spent a lot of, for fuck's sakes. Yes. um I had to redo.
Speaker: So the first time I did it, i did a captured stop pin, you know, like with the Crescent. Okay. You know, like we did in the flippers. Okay. Yeah. All right. But the problem there is if you do that with this construction, then you have no place to put the washer.
Speaker: um so that was a bust um so i had to redo the whole design and then change it to just a stop regular stop pin and then um Oh, I messed up. ah Anyway, I just messed up the... It didn't... There was a jiggle after the button locked, but now it's... And so I just had to redo the blade, which I did this morning. And now it's like it's like rock solid.
Speaker: There's no jiggle at all. um So, yeah, that's cool. This is you putting the pieces of mic classes all together on into your own type of thing, or...? Yes and no. I mean, we did do... um We played with the coil spring in the last knife. So I learned a little bit more about coil springs and how to use them. um A little more than I knew before, I would say. um And I have done a button lock, that little tiny... Remember the little keychain?
Speaker: ah Yeah, yeah, yeah. And yeah, it was just... that This one takes a lot of... design iteration. And, and by the way, these are all cut out on the water jet.
Speaker: So like, that's how these are like the, the skeletonized pieces are exact identical both sides. Like I just cut out the, the frames on the water jet, cut out the blade with the little pre cuts for the button lock. Like all of that was pre done. And then there's like two minutes with a file just to finalize the button lock area.
Speaker: So it's all in the design. Um, and figuring out exactly how it's supposed to work. So that part was cool. and So I wanted this one, this guy easy to replicate so that I can get a piece of Damascus, cut it on the water jet, cut out the exact same frames and it should be easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Speaker: Oh, official terms. Yes. Nice. Lemon squeezy. Yeah, so it well that was part of the, you know, I wanted to put in the effort now so that I could reap some time benefits later.
Speaker: But yeah, I'm happy about that one. It will be, it will be, and there's going to be a kind of a new cool technique. I will definitely do an Instagram video on um that you guys will see in next, probably beginning of next week.
Speaker: that's degree or Instagram and YouTube short. Like I'm not doing a full length video on it, but you'll see it at some point. Probably on the one I do in this one with the Damascus blade, we'll probably have that technique in it in the long form video.
Speaker: Gotcha. So, but what's that yeah. Lots of stuff in the works. So it's not yeah lacking the feeling of product like finish stuff when you're toiling around with the ah with the design part, not not seeing the finished product, but in the end, all time well spent type stuff?
Speaker: Yeah. right You know, is there was some growing pains with the water jet, but um for doing this kind of prototype work, it's awesome because all of the holes are pre-done like the little cutouts like it's like completely repeatable and i don't have to like there's no variance there's no spotting the holes slightly different like i just cut it out it's the exact same piece exact same dimensions um
Speaker: Yeah, it's almost i would obviously not as accurate as like CNCing it, but it's pretty close. Hmm.
Speaker: Oh, cool. Especially for this type of like frame construction handle. Nice. Yeah.
Speaker: So what's new with you besides the weekend and playing shitty golf?
Speaker: It's shitty golf is fucking the theme right now. That's pretty good. Yeah. You should give up golf.
Speaker: Not a chance. um What did I do? Oh, so yeah, I was, ah
Speaker: i say it jokingly, but I really believe that my path back into doing consistent, you know, back in the shop type stuff is i find a lot of joy. I, i Didn't get much like finished. There was reason why I was talking to you about or saying like, Hey, put a lot of work in, but not much, you know, to show for it at the end um for the time spent.
Speaker: But that's really, i really enjoyed. And I guess it just makes my brain happy. to just do a bunch of fucking little shit on a bunch of shit.
Speaker: And it just, I don't know. It kept me in there. Um, but yeah, I don't, I don't have much like, by the way, I've finished anything. Uh, but I stayed busy. Um, uh, I was in there, think two days, couple hours, three, you know, three, four hours piece, probably three more.
Speaker: But yeah, um it just, I had a good time and it was good just to kind of get the the good, the feel good about it. ah Doing some stuff I did. um i was laughing at myself because i was doing some handles and doing the drilling the pinholes and Apparently, i don't know how to pick a drill size because I have this hardened this knife, this chef knife that I'm working on, and I go to drill the fucking ah an eighth-inch pin, and that motherfucker starts squealing on me, and I'm like, what what is going on? and i
Speaker: it took me a minute to kind of figure it out, but I don't know what the hell I did, but I i drilled a super small underneath. Probably. And ah unaware completely. So anyways, I had to use the old carbide drill to to drill that thing out and Now, I don't know.
Speaker: I've always done with the number 30 pin for like the longest time, but then I started noticing that I was still getting some wobble and to to make the eighth inch pins get in without fighting. And I don't know what happened. I think Brent and I were talking and he was like, no, I just use eighth inch and then just kind of sand down the pins if I have to. That's what I do.
Speaker: Yeah. um Well, I use 360s mostly. I think I did something along the lines, but maybe I did the wrong fucking hole or something. But yeah. Anyways, it was just, I don't know. It was frustrating, but then i was just like, you know, working through it all. And at the very end, I just was laughing because I was like, man, yeah, you're, you're fucking rusty, homie.
Speaker: You're fucking rusty. Yeah. feeling like a straight noob. I didn't have to call anybody though. Thank God. It's one of those things. But yeah, that that was it. um And then ah I digested some YouTube, the the sci-fi challenge.
Speaker: Nice. s um And my friend, ah watched yours. And I just want to know when you transitioned.
Speaker: i I just want to know. and and and um I hope the rest of my, my, our buddies, maybe they just don't have the balls to tell you, but your intro was, Hey folks, welcome to the channel.
Speaker: I'm Dennis Terrell from Terrell knife waker. I'm a professional blade Smith. I, when did you transition to professional?
Speaker: When I'm full time. Oh my goodness. I know you don't, I guess you, you're missing the, uh, the weight of that, but man, I fucking almost crashed. This motherfucker just said, I'm Dennis Terrell, a professional blades man. The reason I did that is because I wanted to get a bunch of viewers that were not, um, my standard viewers.
Speaker: And I did. um i posted that but not'm not that. I'm just saying it was targeting. I was introducing myself to people that wouldn't normally watch my videos because um I posted that video in a couple. um I found there's a couple Alita Facebook groups.
Speaker: that lord have like a shit ton of people in them and i posted the video in there and i they got a quite a few views from that and i was thinking okay all these people don't know who i am so i'm gonna start saying hey I'm a professional bladesmith at the beginning. So they don't think this is like, um, you know, some Yahoo making some dumb sword. Anyway, that's why, that's why it was different in this video. Cause I never have done that intro before.
Speaker: Oh, I know. And I've never picked up on it. And I just, dude, I, I just enjoyed it so much. Thank you. Thank you for, for entertaining me in a manner that which I just haven't had in a long time, but It was so serious, man. And I was like, oh my God, homie has transitioned to a new realm, dude.
Speaker: No longer just a knife maker or a bladesmith. I'm pro. Pro status. That's right. congrats, dude. I saw that in your notes and I was like, what the hell does that mean? I just i just couldn't i couldn't let it go. I was like, oh my Lord. Yeah.
Speaker: Anyways, oh I'm glad you have ah some kind of reasoning behind it because if you were just pumping your chest, I was going to have to knock you back down here. and this normal That video's actually done pretty good. It's got already ah close to 140,000 views. so um i've It's been a long time since I've had a video go that high, so I'm pretty happy.
Speaker: Yeah. It almost made it worth making.
Speaker: man. Monetarily wise. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I get it. I get it. I'm feeling bad for you, but not enough to call you lame for calling yourself a professional. but It was super cool. But anyways, so, um, yeah, i started watching. I watched, um, what did I watch? Oh, I really enjoyed a green beetle.
Speaker: Yeah. Um, I dig that guy's content. And if I was going, i think I've told you that don't, I don't think I possess the, the ability to, to do it, but I've always thought of making that, that dune,
Speaker: That's something that I've, I've like, I watched the movie with my wife a bunch of times and I'm like, dude, that that would be cool to try to do. And I've never heard anybody, anybody that I know anyways, talk about it. And then, so I was stoked that he gave it a whirl. I'm glad I didn't try it because yeah.
Speaker: Definitely. I think there's lots of interpretations on that knife. but Sure. sure Yeah. um Yeah, I mean, the the build was cool. um But I just... Yeah, he's he's a fucking funny dude. and He is. like I like what he does. And then I was totally...
Speaker: reminded of of the knife block and yes that was fucking genius that came up in our uh in our chat because one of the guys that one of the new guys that joined had like a catastrophic failure um like with like two days left and i was like you got to run with it because, you know, you got to do an entry and, had reference the block from, uh, from Steve and said, you know, go watch that video. And, uh, dude, that was so well done.
Speaker: I mean, that that was just, I, yeah, that was really cool, but I enjoyed the build. In fact, that had me more pumped for making that kind of reminded me of like the beginning of the thing when, yeah you know, i hope anyone, i hope that other people can relate to the the overload consumption of knife making material and watching people you know just just make uh how how awesome of a time that was in in the beginning when you're just like oh my god that's know how's he gonna do this or about it or oh i need that and um it was just really cool i really enjoyed it it got me fired up to the
Speaker: just for for knife making in general because normally lately anyways it's just kind of been like meh but um that was really cool um it was great to see john i actually um probably enjoyed just the the shop tour uh on on his uh the beginning of his video it was normally i would probably be a little irritated annoyed by the whole thing but you know, knowing all the stuff that happened behind it, it was really good to just to see him and try to do his thing. And then that right when he started going, I couldn't wait for it, but I was just nothing to it. here we go It's just been so long since i heard that.
Speaker: Yeah. It was right when he started making, he's like, well, all right, here we go. And ain't nothing to it. He started getting busy. So, uh, uh, that was cool. Um, who else did watch? I watched Eric's, um, that was pretty cool.
Speaker: Um, and then, uh, the muffin man. Yes. I've never heard him refer to his shop as the bakery. That cracked me up for a long time too. So I had, I had noticed that too. Speaker: it was that uh keyhole dagger that most of these are old ones like none of the ones i did in the last year um i think they tee this thing up like way ahead of time because the gold folder the frame handle kumai one i did uh with dave that one uh yeah that big um that big buoy knife that had that big drop guard and then the the gold the gold folder all of which i did in the same session like the same blade show all of those are from that same blade show so next year hopefully all the ones i brought this year will will be in the in the magazine next year

Speaker: Because I think going to try to come home Saturday after. ah Yeah, we're going up for the balloon festival. I think I mentioned that last week. um The air hot air balloon festival is in Reno this weekend.
Speaker: so Are you going to get in a hot air balloon? No, no, no. This is just watching. none It's like a race, but it's like festival. I don't know. But we will be up at, because my friend Danae, she wants to see them launch.
Speaker: And she wants to be there at 6, even though it's still going to be dark. Because I guess they get all lit up, you know, when the the thing the flame on those things, and it lights up the whole thing. She wants her to see that whole thing.
Speaker: So we'll be there early. But I think we'll be back at the RV by... 11 we'll probably go for breakfast or something and then and then uh head but uh i've never seen you know they i that you know those cool pictures where you see all the balloons and the horizon like you know you want to see that yeah so yeah it's just an excuse to hang out and i was just gonna say yeah it's it sounds like a like an ex just an excuse to go
Speaker: Yeah. And that's a really nice, it actually is a really nice campsite and it's right near, it's right beside Shields. That's right. It's like a quarter mile from Shields. So I'm sure we'll we'll go over there at some point.

Speaker: Yeah. So that will justify a three and a half hour drive. How long is it to you for you to get to Monterey? well, it depends where in Monterey, but I mean, to get to like, just whatever, Canterbury Row, it's like,
Speaker: um maybe an hour and 40. Yeah. So, cause it's about two and a, it can be two and a half hours for me. I'm not doing, you know, anyways, but I do that in a heartbeat.
Speaker: all yeah but but once you surpass the two like it's like for me the two and a half hour range once you pass that then then it's like your brain goes to fucking like the houseboat is like two hours and 20 minutes
Speaker: like the houseboat is like two hours and twenty minutes And that's doable. um But not something I like to like go. i have done it like go Friday and or go Saturday and come back Sunday. But I don't enjoy it.
Speaker: That does bother me too much. Yeah. But you like driving more than I do. I just don't mind it. Yeah. And actually, you know, yeah, I don't get to drive. I mean, I used to drive all the time.
Speaker: And now I don't ever leave my fucking hole at work. So maybe that's what it is. And I'll be driving the RV this weekend. So that's a lot more.

But like, you know, we're he's over there and in the in the Capitola area. So he's not close to me anymore. But anyway, yeah, the best definition of my brother was we were golfing. This was probably 10 years ago with Jeff. Jeff's the one who said it.
Speaker: And we were like on the ninth hole at like nine o'clock in the morning. And my brother was down another cart down the hill and he's singing, dancing in his cart, just going around doing his thing all by himself. This is just a fucking normal Sunday morning out golfing.
Speaker: And Jeff looks at me and he goes, I don't think I've ever had as much fun in my entire life as he's having right now. like He's just the, he's, he's the best dude. He's absolutely the best. So, um, yeah. Don't have a DJ booth or a microphone around. Cause yeah, he'll take over. So yeah.

So the new season's out. and My dumb ass, normally I'll hold off and wait until they're all done, but i just I couldn't do it. So I got like three episodes in and now I'm just like a normal, like the old days back when you know and used to wait once a week to watch the episodes dry. It's horrible. Yeah. It's absolutely horrible.
Speaker: Prime does that. They don't really, not like Netflix releases the whole season. Prime only releases it like at once a week. So does Disney. Same thing. If it's freaking, if it's good though, they'll, they'll get you.
