A Dalai Lama–Henry Rollins mashup walks into the campaign—and somehow gets weirder when the lying starts. Pure chaotic character-intro gold.

Meet Dalai Rollins, the Holiest Fraud Alive

Low budget, huge ambition: this clip connects 21 Grams, Babel, and one tragedy-driven auteur obsession. A smart, cinematic flex for anyone who loves spotting the bigger pattern.

Iñárritu’s Secret Death Trilogy

A smart way into difficult art: take breaks, sit with each segment, and don’t make it family movie night. Sometimes the best viewing advice is knowing when to pause.

Watch This Heavy Movie in Pieces

A brutal film gets a deeply human read: what happens to love when survival is the full-time job? It’s raw, relatable, and way bigger than movie trivia.

When Love Has No Room to Breathe

They hated every selfish second of it—and still couldn’t deny it’s a brutally well-made hard watch. Gritty, disturbing, and the kind of film take that sparks instant debate.

A Terrible Movie I Kind of Loved

A clutch crit turns into pure chaos as fairy magic summons a spectral sousaphone and vaporizes an entire rat swarm in one dazzling blast.

Nat 20, Starlight Sousaphone, Rat Apocalypse

A judge hands down the perfect split-the-difference ruling: the patron gets named, the brutal terms still stand, and everyone walks away somehow defeated.

You Win. Also, You Still Lose.

A beholder with a film camera, a noir gelatinous cube clutching Blockbuster relics, and a KFC-suited lich? This creature roll call turns studio archetypes into gloriously weird comedy.

Hollywood, but Make It Monsters

A clutch reroll turns a weird first choice into a much cooler reveal, delivering pure game-show suspense with chance, rejection, and payoff in one satisfying beat.

He Burned Heroic Inspiration for a More Iconic Pick

A hilariously doomed D&D standoff: every peace offering flops, every punch misses, and the fight somehow gets funnier with each failed attempt.

He Tried Diplomacy Twice. It Got Worse.

This week the crew takes on an obscure possession film, the story of Mother Joan of the Angels and a convent overtaken by demons. We ask whether the film told the wrong story, compared to Aldous Huxley's account and the much stranger true events behind it. We also get into whether horror needs characters you can root for, the film's minimalist style, and how it treats possession, patriarchy, repression and eroticism. Plus, why older horror shocks can feel muted today. Then we roll dice in a D&D encounter set inside the possessed convent. The party tries to win Mother Joan over, fights through psychic attacks and works out what is really causing the possession. We wrap up with film ratings, our favorite side characters and the roll for next week's movie.

Episode VII: Mother Joan of the Angels

This episode is all about... er... All About Eve. What a script! Wait, is that Shere Khan? The world's most okay-iest full spoiler recap and questions about the plot. The fear of aging and reality of age gap relationships for women. Does All About Eve deserve a higher spot on the AFI Top 100 list? (The various movies in the AFI top 25 we hate) In the second half, it's Dungeons and Drive-Ins battle time: Eve goes from pawn to queen, Batman villains?, Eve can't stop grabbing Roy's butt. We wrap with movie ratings, our Midge award, and a roll for next episode's movie pick. Letterboxd was having some problems but we THINK we foudn the right movie-- the first of our spooky season picks for the next month!

Episode VI - All About Eve

In this episode, Brooke picks the 2000 Lasse Hallström film 'Chocolat' — and makes the case for why it works. We dig into Johnny Depp's turn, the ensemble's strength, and the movie's themes of tolerance and temptation, run through a rapid plot recap, and unpack what makes the film feel so sensual, romantic, and distinctive. We also put it in awards context, revisiting the era of adult studio dramedies, before landing on our final takeaways about the movie's humanity. Then it's back to the dungeon: a feast with magical food buffs sets up a riverboat flirtation challenge with Josephine, followed by a burning boat rescue mission that spirals into a villain reveal and combat on the river. The Count is pacified, the fire contained, and the scenario resolved — capped off with ratings, an MVP debate, next movie pick, and a playful farewell.

Episode V: Chocolat

We dig into Charlie Chaplin's The Gold Rush — why it still matters, its most iconic scenes, and Chaplin's blend of comedy and emotional power — before dropping our characters into the film's world for a survival challenge: a blizzard search, a cabin battle, a ghost fight gone wrong, and a final showdown with Black Larson on the cliff's edge. We close with movie ratings, a best-supporting-character debate, and settle on Chocolat as the next watch.

Episode IV: Chaplin's Gold Rush — and a Survival Showdown in the Cabin

This week we put Love, Simon on the table — why it works so well as a glossy YA studio crowd-pleaser, where its more manufactured conflicts wobble, and how the movie lands now when it comes to coming out, parenting, and emotional universality. We recap the plot, argue over what still hits, reminisce over the Greg Berlanti CW Arrowverse, ask the all-timer question of what it would look like if straight people had to come out, and hand out final scores plus best supporting element. Then the RPG chaos kicks in: a Halloween-party infiltration, a beer pong hustle, a mission to steal Martin’s phone, and a magical attempt to give Simon his agency back through karaoke, honesty, and confession. We close with the dice choosing the AFI Top 100 and finally landing on "The Gold Rush," and a nod to Andy's love of Hitchcock's "The Lodger."

Episode III: Love, Simon and the Henry Rollins/Channing Tatum karaoke showdown

In this episode we dig into Alejandro González Iñárritu's Amores Perros — why it's so hard to watch, how its three intertwined stories fit together, and what makes it powerful despite being upsetting. Content/Trigger Warning: Dog death, violence/harm against animals. We talk love, dogs, unsafe attachments, emotional boundaries, standout characters, and hand out our ratings. Then we roll into the tabletop side of the show: a dungeon adventure kicking off at a crash site, a daring rescue of Valeria from a burning car, a trapdoor twist that drops the party into a fight with rats and a wererat, Karloff's transformation turning the tide, and a loot haul that closes with the reveal of our next movie.

Episode II: Amores Perros and an Intersection... of Nat 20s!

A beginner-friendly hangout into the world of Dungeons & Dragons. We start from zero — what Brooke and Melissa already know about D&D — then walk through the basics: roleplay, dice, maps, theater of the mind, and how turns work. From there we dig into character concepts and inspirations before tackling the character sheet: core stats, hit points, armor class, and what those ability scores actually mean. We cover how attributes are chosen and which skills matter most, then jump into D&D Beyond to build our characters live — classes, skills, weapons, cantrips, subclasses, species — before finalizing the sheets, embracing a few weaknesses, and wrapping character creation. If you've ever wanted to try D&D but felt intimidated, this one's for you.

Session Zero - Do You Want To Build a D&D Character Sheet?

Welcome to the pilot of a podcast where movie criticism meets tabletop adventure. Andy — critic, long-time film obsessive, and reluctant Mortube conscript — lays out the show's premise: use dice to pick unseen films from his enormous backlog, then turn each selection into a rules-light dungeon crawl. He digs into what thoughtful criticism looks like (and why gatekeeping isn't it), pitches the format's mechanics with category lists, ranking rolls, and audience-submitted picks, and burns through a rapid catch-up on the recent and upcoming billion-dollar films he's missed. Then the episode takes a hard left into fantasy: Andy gets trapped inside Mortube, faces a surreal courtroom that assigns him a patron, and is thrown into a cursed content-creator dungeon where he fights movie-inspired enemies before ending the final battle with magic instead of steel. Loot from the dungeon becomes the film-selection device — leading, after a few rerolls, to the first pick: Amores Perros. Andy closes with a look ahead at future collaborators and the show's real mission: fun, connection, and paying attention to movies together.

Episode I: Roll for Initiative

Rotten Potatoes approved film cricket, social justice paladin & guy with real divorced dad energy in Central Texas. Welcome to our dungeon!

Daring adventurers roll dice to decide what movie to watch next, then review them and play D&D to discuss the movies we watch.
