In this episode, Nic Torres shares his experiences after two weeks of replacing social media scrolling with journaling, focusing on pottery and personal growth. He discusses how using a pocket notebook without a structured approach has helped him jot down random thoughts, pottery ideas, feelings, and goals. Nic highlights how this practice has not only fostered creativity but also kept him on track with his goals by allowing him more time to think and generate new ideas. He suggests that journaling could be beneficial for others looking to improve their focus and creativity. Introduction to Journaling Journey

I'm two weeks into using a journal. And here's what it has done. And here's what I've learned. What is up, shaping nation? This is Nick Torres here. And the don't know me is my mission to help part of themselves to her own unique voice with your pottery. So you see, there over the last two weeks, I have started using a journal.

Inspiration and Initial Experiences

00:00:17
Speaker
You know, I was watching a YouTube video.
00:00:19

where somebody was explaining how he replaced his screen time and is like the endless scroll of social media with a notebook. So I decided to give it a try. And so far, I have been really loving it. And

Tools and Techniques for Journaling

00:00:34
Speaker
I write all kinds of things like when I bought a new pocket notebook, I find a pocket notebook, a very small one, to be best for me because I don't have to write a huge page. I don't have to write a lot.
00:00:48
Speaker
But a pocket notebook is best for me, and it might be good for you too as well. But that's my personal opinion. But when I bought this pocket notebook, like I was saying, I write pretty much anything down. I write my thoughts, feelings, my pottery ideas, other ideas, my goals. I write down all of this stuff. And the first thing I wrote was literally, fuck me, I wrote, I spent a lot of money today. That was the first thing I wrote. But why am I telling you why I
00:01:17
Speaker
I write so many random things. Well, the reason the thing that I've learned about journaling, because I've tried journaling in the past, but it never really stuck. But I feel like this this

Impact on Creativity and Goals

00:01:28
Speaker
one is going to stick, because one, I'm not trying to have a structure to it. I'm just kind of going with the flow, whatever ideas come up. That's what I'm going to write down. And that seems to help me a lot. But two,
00:01:46
Speaker
The reason why I brought that up is because sometimes we just need to get ideas out. We just need to kind of say things that are on our mind. Like that first page that I wrote in my pocket journal was, fuck me, I spend a lot of money. And I felt that truly, because I spent $67 on a bucket of glaze, which is really expensive, bucket of clear glaze, and I was feeling it.
00:02:14
Speaker
But because I just kind of write my ideas and random thoughts sometimes, I think it is helping me be a lot better. Not only that, I've been doing what I saw in that YouTube video where instead of going on my Instagram and scrolling through Instagram all day long, or like when I take my dog out or I go to the bathroom, I've been replacing it with the journal, with the pocket journal.
00:02:39
Speaker
And it's been helping me come up with new ideas. And I think the reason why it's coming up with new ideas is because I'm allowing myself to be a little bit more bored. And these ideas allow me to come up with new pottery ideas, keep me on track for my goals. And

Encouragement and Conclusion

00:02:56
Speaker
overall, I think it's just a much better experience compared to just scrolling.
00:03:02
Speaker
And so I think I'm probably going to continue with this. And should you get your own pocket journal? Should you start doing your own journal as well? Well, that is really up to you. If you want to use a journal to maybe keep pottery ideas or other ideas in your life, that's fine. If you don't, that is also fine. I'm just telling you my experiences with it so far.
00:03:26
Speaker
And so far, I have really enjoyed doing it. It is definitely helping me get close to my goals and I've already almost accomplished some of the goals I've already set. So that's just been my two weeks experience. I hope this helps you and I hope you guys enjoy this episode and I'll see you guys in the next one.
