Denis Tyrell: Hey, welcome to another episode of the Triple T for Knife Makers podcast. Jared, you're such a dick. He loves just to annoy the shit out of me during these.

Denis Tyrell: i'm Welcome to the podcast. As usual, i have my dickhead friend, Jared Sandoval from Echo Blades, and I'm Dennis Trell the Trail Knife Works, and you are joining us for another spectacular episode of this podcast, listening to us bust each other's balls, even without saying anything yet.

Denis Tyrell: Jared, how are you?

echo_blades: I am doing fantastic and I'd like to commend you on a very upbeat intro. You started out laughing and I am, I couldn't be more happier. Um, I do want to just extend my sincere apologies for the lackluster, uh,

echo_blades: vibe of last week's show i felt like we should have been shot out of a cannon with like just full of energy after being gone for two weeks and having blade show and everything and man about halfway through it it just we weren't we weren't catching that uh super momentum and uh i just want to say i'm sorry might make my friends boring i just i think it's there but uh yeah man i'm uh

Denis Tyrell: I think we were still tired.

echo_blades: I'm good. I'm good. I'm good. How was your week? Oh, first off, let me just get this out of the way. um put a post ah put an Instagram poll out this morning saying that we were going to be late and it was going to come out this evening. and um and And I did a poll. Whose fault do you think it is?

Denis Tyrell: I was wondering what that meant in the notes.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: And, and...

echo_blades: And i want, I just, I, I will say that most of the day i was pretty resentful that it was a, like a landslide. It was my fault.

echo_blades: And then.

Denis Tyrell: See, they know.

echo_blades: And then it kind of shifted gears. And at the end, i am so happy to say that my beautiful, beautiful friends and listeners have all rallied around and understood that most of the time it's Dennis's fault.

echo_blades: But 47% 53%. You're about to get struck with lightning. I'm you're where are.

Denis Tyrell: What do you mean? It has never once been me that has...

echo_blades: um um

Denis Tyrell: No.

echo_blades: you're about to get you're about to get struck with lightning i't i'm glad you're i'm glad you're where you are

Denis Tyrell: no No, no. The one time i suggested and you said yes, I was going to do it anyway. So I'm counting that one in the... in the

echo_blades: ah You have fell asleep twice.

Denis Tyrell: Okay, I did do that.

echo_blades: So, um but at any rate, yeah.

Denis Tyrell: So what's your excuse anyway?

echo_blades: So, but this week it was, it was because of me. I had the wonderful honor and privilege to celebrate my 24th wedding anniversary with my wife yesterday.

Denis Tyrell: Okay, I'll let you off on that one.

echo_blades: So, so yeah. ah Happy anniversary, my love. um Just a, ah

echo_blades: You know, it's kind of sad because, well, that for sure, um she's going to, the drugs are going to wear off sooner or later.

Denis Tyrell: She put up with you for that long?

echo_blades: I know it. But, ah you know, on ah on a little bit more kind of ah a serious note, you know, i I don't know how the rest of you guys are. I mean, and I and i actually had... um I'm inspired, um irritated, and sometimes motivated by people that I have in my life as it relates to how they participate in their relationships.

echo_blades: And um I get irritated when there's the overdue gooder.

Denis Tyrell: Thank you.

echo_blades: Guy's got his balls in his wife purse. I get motivated when I see somebody respect, honor, love, cherish, and support, and and put you know that relationship in its appropriate place. and inspired is just like this perfect scenario of, and all I'm trying to describe is like, uh, for me is just, uh, always try to get real, um, and don't want to say examples of what I think it is to be a man and a husband and a father.

echo_blades: um and I'm very grateful to have a lot of, lot of examples, uh, and good friends that, uh, show me how to do it because there's, there's a lot of times where, um, you know, I'll fall short of, uh,

echo_blades: doing and putting things in its appropriate place. And it's not for lack of respect or anything like that, but it's just, uh, I think I have a ah wonderful wife who allows me to, uh, to do the things that I, I want to do most of the time. And, um, I can quickly let that landslide into,

echo_blades: being lopsided and balance wise. So, uh, so I, you know, I, I just, I don't know why, but I got that's just me.

Denis Tyrell: Peace.

echo_blades: I got to kind of call things for what they are. Accountability is, is real. Um, and it just kind of snuck up on me yesterday and I was like, well, yeah, I'm not, I'm not going to, you know, happy anniversary.

echo_blades: I got to go record. So I had to prioritize some things and, and do that. But, uh, you know, I, I just, uh, you know, that coupled with father's day, um And ultimately, ah while we were in Atlanta with with ah with my son graduating, I think I may have touched on it last week, but I'm just having this whole trying to, what's the word?

echo_blades: Not equalize, but i'm i'm I'm really focusing on the, the never-ending chase for the dollar versus time and where is that um what does that equal out right because as a man we need to provide um we you know ultimately i want my i wanted and i do want to continue to have my family to have a better life uh than than i did um but then you know as the kids are are now kind of you know setting off to do their own thing i was trying to rationalize like you know well

Denis Tyrell: Yep. yep

echo_blades: Did I do enough? You know, was there, you know, um, so it was just this, this, this cool little moment, uh, of reflection is what I was, I was trying to get at. And, um, you know, that was that come home. i was gone for a while.

echo_blades: And then, uh, we got father's day. I had a wonderful father's day, man. I, I was yours.

Denis Tyrell: it was good. It was good.

echo_blades: Yeah. Yeah. I got to, I got to golf, um spend the time with the family and then roll into this, this anniversary. So just a really feeling, filling the, trying to count the blessings and not the problems and realize how grateful I am.

echo_blades: Cause I'm super proud of, of our longevity in this marriage. You know, as I talk to people, it's just, it's not as common as I'd, I'd hope it would be for most people.

Denis Tyrell: not common at all when do you say it is 24 or 24 years that is not common at all not a lot of people hit that silver wedding anniversary uh that 25.

echo_blades: 24 years. Yeah. No, especially if you're.

Denis Tyrell: you're

echo_blades: Yeah. I told her we're done after that. Let's just get that. And then we can just call it. You put up with it. You did your time. Now go be happy.

Denis Tyrell: gonna go for gold

echo_blades: Yeah. I'm going to make it to goal. That's, that's, that's the reality, but ah no, mean, I just, ah you know, and the only thing we did right is just, is not quit, you know?

echo_blades: and And I don't think that's appropriate for everybody, but it's worked for us. And so anyways, that's why I was late. Why we're late. It was me, but I love you guys for, for thinking it was dense.

Denis Tyrell: Even thinking it was me.

echo_blades: Yeah. Cause yeah, that was cool.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. I actually celebrated Father's Day Saturday because I had a class Sunday. Yeah.

echo_blades: Oh, that's right. That's right.

Denis Tyrell: yeah So Logan and I went out to dinner, which he paid for, which was awesome.

echo_blades: that's awesome.

Denis Tyrell: Uh, and then, um, then we went to see the Mandalorian and Grogu, which was pretty good. Um, are you Mandalorian fan? Probably not.

echo_blades: I, I, again, I'll say this a million times. I am a much bigger star Wars fan in my mind than I am in real life. So I want to say, of course, but yeah, no, I,

Denis Tyrell: Did you ever watch the series?

echo_blades: I started to actually, that's ah my son and I started watching that. And then um nobody can watch in a series with me because it's impossible to like pin me down long enough to do that.

echo_blades: And they end up finishing the shows without me. And he did that. So I got pissed off and I've never finished it.

Denis Tyrell: Well, the movie is like, why I just felt like the movie was like watching four or five episodes of the Mandalorian series, which is great. um so I liked it a lot.

echo_blades: Okay.

Denis Tyrell: It was good. Logan Knight was not a Mandalorian fan, so I don't think he got as much out of it as I did, but um but it was good.

echo_blades: Nice.

Denis Tyrell: And then Sunday I had a father-daughter class, um like a one-day, like a chef knife class, which was super fun. They were really nice, um you know, enthusiastic pair um in the shop. So that was pretty fun.

Denis Tyrell: But yeah.

echo_blades: I don't know if I said it on the air or if we talked about it afterwards, but I was like, who the fuck schedules class on Father's Day? And you were like, I don't know.

Denis Tyrell: a father.

echo_blades: It father, a father. Yeah. With this kid. And I was like, okay, I'm an asshole. All right. Fair enough. Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: And I mean, I finally have one kid at home. I did talk to Parker of course. Um, but, um, yeah, it was, I don't really do that much for father's day anyway. So it didn't feel like that much of a, an issue for me.

Denis Tyrell: Um, and, and, uh, Logan works on Sundays anyway, so I wasn't going to see him, but, um,

echo_blades: Yeah.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, but it was good class. it was good weekend. Um, we had, so, um, today some, I wouldn't say sad news, not yet, but Molly had a big operation today.

Denis Tyrell: Molly's the dog for everyone else.

echo_blades: Oh no.

Denis Tyrell: So, why she, she had a big lump removed from her, uh, from her front leg.

echo_blades: What's wrong? What's going on?

Denis Tyrell: And, uh, she had a bunch of teeth removed and we thought it was going to be like you know three or four teeth take a guess how many teeth she got removed I was thinking three or four so it's obviously more 16 she had 16 teeth removed she she's an old lady dog but we did not know it was that bad

echo_blades: You're thinking three or four.

echo_blades: wow

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. She's got like her canines, like two more on the bottom. Um, and sorry, on on the top two canines and like two other teeth, almost all her other, her teeth are gone. And then she's got like three back molars, um, on the bottom on each side and like one other tooth.

Denis Tyrell: That's it. She's like drug to hell right now.

echo_blades: Oh, she's going to start watching NASCAR.

Denis Tyrell: yeah

Denis Tyrell: Oh, but it's going to be, it's going to be a rough couple.

echo_blades: Oh, Molly Earnhardt right here, buddy.

Denis Tyrell: It's going to be a rough couple of days for her. So I'm feeling bad.

echo_blades: I'm sorry to hear that. Yeah, me too.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: She's a sweetheart too.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. And, uh, with, with company coming Thursday night, um, that's going to be, yeah, it's going to be hard on Kim to be looking after her all weekend when I'm teaching a class.

echo_blades: She's an absolute sweetheart.

Denis Tyrell: So, but, uh, yeah.

echo_blades: Huh. Wow. Well, that's... She's good.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, so far. I mean, you know, she she just got out of the surgery at like 4 o'clock today, so she's still drugged up and sleeping.

echo_blades: Just passed out.

Denis Tyrell: and Yeah. So we'll see. We'll see how she does tomorrow.

echo_blades: Where'd you guys go for dinner?

Denis Tyrell: We went to Hopped a Mind.

echo_blades: Oh, okay. That's good.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: That's a solid spot. I had chili dogs.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Chili dogs.

echo_blades: You know how much I love Chili Dogs?

Denis Tyrell: I can't stand chili dogs.

echo_blades: Chili Dog with my Chili Dog with my Chili Dogs. Chili Dog with my Chili Dog with my Chili Dog. Have you seen that reel? There's a whole reel where all they do is say Chili Dog to that song the entire time. It's fantastic.

Denis Tyrell: Uh, I very rarely like hot dogs. Hot dogs is like, to me, one of those foods that I never order when I'm out because I feel like what can you possibly do to ah fucking wiener in a bun that would make me want to buy it as opposed to something I could make at home.

Denis Tyrell: It's a mental thing.

echo_blades: I agree.

Denis Tyrell: Um, and then I'm not a big chili fan.

echo_blades: agree.

Denis Tyrell: So chili dogs are off my menu.

echo_blades: ah wo or What?

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I'm not a big chili fan.

echo_blades: Huh. i I will say probably nine out 10. If I do order a hot dog, it's chi any chili dog I've ever bought. it's probably been gross.

echo_blades: It's not and ah very rare to go to spot. That's got like just great.

Denis Tyrell: Have you ever seen the wiener schnitzel chili dog?

echo_blades: That's the only one I'm talking about. that's like I think that's probably.

Denis Tyrell: it looks like vomit.

echo_blades: what Oh, yeah.

Denis Tyrell: It's disgusting.

echo_blades: But I have had a good one of those once. I was going to say.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, it was probably 2 a.m. in the morning and you were...

echo_blades: And I was. Yeah, if you're not just going to get a standard hot dog at the ah at the ballpark watching baseball. um I think when I was doing spring training, though, I was introduced to the Chicago dog.

echo_blades: And I'm a fan.

Denis Tyrell: Okay. ah Yeah, they're okay.

echo_blades: right.

Denis Tyrell: They're okay. i will I will give something to you. the only The only hot dog i will I will buy from somebody else are those bacon wrap hot dogs off the little carts. i don't even Don't even tell me what's in them. I don't care. They smell so good.

Denis Tyrell: Those are

echo_blades: Dude, those, man, that is like an epidemic and ah a like an infestation of awesomeness that comes out of there, dude. They just, they have the they have that thing down pack. There's like a troop of them. And then when I was in in Anaheim, we went to the game there. I have never seen so many. They even got us when we walked out of Alcatraz.

Denis Tyrell: That's what I was just thinking. like It took everything in me not to buy one of those getting off and the boat and out the trash. like We should have got one just to let Toby try it.

echo_blades: i mean

echo_blades: I think we missed the yeah we missed the boat there for sure. Because they're they're not that good normally, but they they can be.

Denis Tyrell: They smell delicious.

echo_blades: They do. They do. Have you had a Casper dog?

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Meh.

echo_blades: Yeah, so that's that's next level for me. It snaps like a Vlasic pickle. It's great, dude. It's so good.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I've had those.

echo_blades: ah

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: But anyways, that's what I had. That's what I wanted. um And then watched the U.S. Open. And I got...

echo_blades: to My son got me a brand new 7-wood. I am so... I...

Denis Tyrell: A seven wood. Wow.

echo_blades: Is Sevenwood a golf club? I've been looking at this thing. I've been looking at this thing.

Denis Tyrell: I didn't mean to hit that, actually.

echo_blades: no that's funny, though.

Denis Tyrell: It was appropriate.

echo_blades: Yes, it's good. That's really good. ah I hope you guys are laughing because that kind of stung. and That one actually got me a little bit, dude. I was like, what a motherfucker.

Denis Tyrell: I was adjusting the volume because it was really loud and I didn't realize when you adjust the volume, it plays it.

echo_blades: Oh, um that's kirking awesome.

echo_blades: Okay. Yeah. He got me a club that I've been. threatening to buy for fucking months now and and I love it I used the shit out of it this week so that was good I golfed with him and my my son-in-law on Sunday and then just hung out with the family so it was good got some clothes and

Denis Tyrell: I was why ah whatever scrolling Instagram and like, you know, sometimes they'll show like little movie clips, you know, like a little spot of a movie on Instagram or in a reel or something like that. So I'm going through that and it's, I don't know the movie, but it's Owen Wilson selling this guy a golf club.

echo_blades: sure

echo_blades: Oh, it's Stick.

Denis Tyrell: And it, is that what it is? And he's like, oh yeah, you, oh yeah, you you don't want to do this with this one's, you know, I can't sell you this one or something like that.

echo_blades: It's a show called Stick.

Denis Tyrell: I thought of you, that's exactly how you would be sold the golf club.

echo_blades: It's not how I am with those with that type of thing, but yes, very, very simple. Yes, it was good. Like, no, no, no, no. this is the I wouldn't do that. You got to tell you that. I've seen that. that's a that isn't That is an absolutely great series, too.

echo_blades: It's called Stick, I think.

Denis Tyrell: ah You know what's great? Have you been watching all of these reels of the like the World Cup fans? i mean Have you seen these?

echo_blades: Boring. Boring.

Denis Tyrell: the

echo_blades: No.

Denis Tyrell: I want to go to Houston and go to like a Dutch, like a Netherlands game. Have you seen those? You got, you got to Google Netherlands, Houston, and like whatever crowd just Google that and see it is incredible. Like I want to go just,

echo_blades: Every soccer game is like that. And I...

Denis Tyrell: no no, this isn't in the game. This is in the, in the streets on the way to the game. It is unbelievable. They do this. They're all wearing orange and they're doing this chant.

Denis Tyrell: And then the entire crowd, because in the in the chant, which is in whatever language they speak in the Netherlands, Dutch, I guess.

Denis Tyrell: Is that a language? i don't know. um But they're every I just got hate mail from all of the Europeans. um But in it, they go, go left, go left.

echo_blades: Just the Dutch. Just the Dutch.

Denis Tyrell: the entire The entire crowd starts moving left, and there's like, i bet you it looks like 10,000 people moving left and then moving right, and it's it is crazy. And then the the Norwegians, actually, when they're in the stadium, they row.

Denis Tyrell: because they're Vikings. So you have the entire thing. They're all rowing in unison. Like we're talking eight sections in the stadium are rowing in unison. It looks hilarious.

Denis Tyrell: I'd like to go just to be one of the fans. You need to get out from golf and actually see some of this. It looks hilarious.

echo_blades: Dude, you're never going to get me to a soccer game.

Denis Tyrell: Really? I thought you liked all live sports.

echo_blades: Not. No. That is one sport that and ah hockey is fantastic to see live. And I don't i don't care for hockey either, but I'll i'll go to a hockey game any day.

echo_blades: Soccer, just just not not not me. No chance. I haven't watched a single freaking World Cup thing. I i um i just asked my buddies if the USA was still in it. and um But yeah, no, I don't get it.

echo_blades: And it's the biggest sport in the world, by far, in the world.

Denis Tyrell: In the world.

echo_blades: And you can, I'd rather do whatever you

Denis Tyrell: I don't mind it. I like soccer. I mean, I've watched the World Cup. not Not so much this one. I've watched a couple of games. Like, I watched the... Shit. What was the England and Ghana, I think, were playing today. I was hoping England was going to win, but I didn't get to see the end.

Denis Tyrell: And then yesterday it was like Cameroon and somebody. But because I like soccer.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: I actually enjoy watching. i would watch a hundred soccer games before I would watch a baseball game. Or tennis. Or um ah basketball, I don't mind.

Denis Tyrell: But I don't know. I like i i like soccer. I like the fact that. Unlike American sports, I like that the players don't know how much time is left.

Denis Tyrell: And they always they play hard right to the end. And it's not, most American sports are about watching the clock. They're very clock oriented. The soccer is not clock oriented.

Denis Tyrell: I like that.

echo_blades: You're like the fucking ah the teacher on ah the peanuts to me right now. mom more warm um more walk bo bo walk walk one more walk i Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Golf is not is not clock oriented.

echo_blades: you're yeah

Denis Tyrell: It's one of the, that's because it wasn't made here. not any It's not an American sport, that's why.

echo_blades: i I love American sports. I love all sports. Soccer is just very, very difficult for me to to get into.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: Very difficult.

Denis Tyrell: Well, you're not going to, even when it comes down to the finals, you know you're not going to get into it a little bit.

echo_blades: Sure, sure, sure, sure. But I can give a hoots hoot about anything happening right now.

Denis Tyrell: yeah well

echo_blades: But i can i can I can appreciate any two best teams going at it. And, you know, I...

Denis Tyrell: but Regardless of of not liking the game, Google like Netherlands crowd World Cup because it's crazy to watch it.

echo_blades: Okay, I will.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, that's your homework.

echo_blades: no No problem. i I'll do that.

Denis Tyrell: But yeah. Um, and I just found out right before I came up here that, um, people suck. And, uh, I had some mail stolen, which I'm really pissed off about.

Denis Tyrell: um we have one of those, you know, I'm on a cul-de-sac and we have one of the big mailboxes at the end of the cul-de-sac, which everyone has a mailbox, which you have a key to, and only u postal service can open it.

echo_blades: Thank you.

Denis Tyrell: Well, there's this I went over there and there's a letter on the side of it that says these have been being broken into. um Make sure you get your mail often. And I had something delivered like a week ago.

Denis Tyrell: And it was from USA Knife Maker. And ah for some folder parts I can't find anywhere else. um And now they're gone.

Denis Tyrell: And I'm really pissed off. So people suck. Now I got to make make that purchase again.

echo_blades: Check your mail, dude.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, well, it's only been in there a week. It's not that crazy. and It's not like it's in a mailbox that anybody can open. It's in a locked mailbox.

echo_blades: People suck, dude. I want to bless your balls a lot more about it, but yeah, people suck, dude.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. If I would have got it delivered to this crazy part, because I live in the back, at the very end of the cul-de-sac, I never get packages stolen because you'd have to come into the cul-de-sac and, you know, just people aren't going to do that.

echo_blades: I don't.

Denis Tyrell: if you lived on a corner maybe, but so I don't get packages stolen. So if if they would have been delivered UPS, it would have been fine.

echo_blades: I can't imagine. mean, I in a can because I was a drug addict for a long time and did really stupid things. But um like, how many mailboxes does one have to root to get something worth a piss?

Denis Tyrell: I know like,

echo_blades: Like, okay, they scored some folder. Like, what the fuck?

Denis Tyrell: I mean, it makes them know what they are.

echo_blades: I mean, yeah, you're going to get my bills. You're going to get my freaking my my ah graduation congratulations card with nothing in it because nobody does that shit anymore.

echo_blades: You're not going to get a big stack of cash or ah i mean, there's got to be some identity theft freaking, you know.

Denis Tyrell: No.

Denis Tyrell: no

Denis Tyrell: I guess it's identity theft. Like that's gotta be the only thing because who sends anything of value like in like these are the mail slots that are like an inch and a quarter high so it's not like you can really put packages in them like me only the you know the padded envelopes

echo_blades: yeah

echo_blades: that's because they're yeah that's because they're an inch and a half high they were just fucking loaded zooted ready to just come up i just did yeah that one that one doesn't i mean there's so many nice packages sitting on porches and so many freaking valuable things sitting in cars i mean like there's some things i'm like okay like

Denis Tyrell: yeah

echo_blades: You know, but as fricking mailbox, like there's nothing in it.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I don't get it.

echo_blades: I don't get it.

Denis Tyrell: At least a regular mailbox is big enough to put a package in. These aren't even big enough for packages.

echo_blades: Yeah. I don't know. Get better. Fricking drug addicts, thieves be better.

Denis Tyrell: And I want to know that there's no damage to it. So, Postal Service, what the fuck? what you Yeah, I know.

echo_blades: Oh, it's probably got a key. Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: if Somebody stole a fucking master key. Pisses me off. But...

echo_blades: Someone went postal.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Yeah. Right. Um, I don't suppose you've been in the shop lately, huh?

echo_blades: I have not, actually. um I um

echo_blades: i went in there Saturday. i guess sometime during the week I went in to grab something out of the... I don't know, whatever.

echo_blades: And I smelt epoxy. in my, in the garage, you like CA glue.

Denis Tyrell: This isn't good.

echo_blades: Yeah. And I was like, I'm like, I was telling Lynn, I'm like, I smell, I smell epoxy. Like what? And she's like, well, what is that? I'm like super glue. Like, I'm like, I know I'm not trip tripping, but, and I did, you know, a scan. And since everything is so neatly organized and everything, nothing stood out to me. And I did, you know, like I did, i said, I did scan and and I didn't see anything. And I was like, huh.

echo_blades: So I went out on Saturday afternoon. i was like, i should probably go out there and try to do something. And um didn't have any, was not feeling anything really.

echo_blades: um i was looking for one thing and i have i have misplaced a a heat treated knife blank that I was gonna do something to.

echo_blades: I can't find it right now. So there's that. And then as I was looking for that,

Denis Tyrell: You're so organized.

echo_blades: As I was looking for that, I moved something on my desk and this towel is um fucking start pulling this thing. I'm like, oh shit.

echo_blades: I don't know how, but I think it got so hot in there that the,

echo_blades: my CA a glue exploded the bottle.

Denis Tyrell: What?

echo_blades: Yeah. It's like the cap was off. Um, but the side of it was like ruptured. Yeah.

echo_blades: I don't know. But the whole thing was compromised in like a three quarters of a full bottle of fucking star bond bonded to my fucking desk.

Denis Tyrell: The thin or the medium?

echo_blades: Then, uh, the, I don't know. think it's, think it's a thin, thin.

Denis Tyrell: yeah that Yeah, the thin would make a mess.

echo_blades: Yeah.

echo_blades: It was, yeah, the the towel was stuck to it. i had a um ah a paper template of a knife, the handle. I couldn't save that. um And i I was out there for probably about half an hour fucking scraping, heat gunning, trying to get this shit out and rip the towel apart. and um Thankfully, that was like nothing else.

echo_blades: There was a lot of things around there that would have really pissed me off if they got if it got in there. But ah it was...

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, come to think of it, I had to throw a ah thin Starbond away like a month or so ago because it dried out. So.

echo_blades: yeah i don't know maybe oh it might have been the medium now that i think about it oh excuse me yeah i have the smaller bottle than you have um yeah i don't know it's never happened and i just i i don't know i just used it the the weekend before so um

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, because I don't use the thin stuff very often and I don't know how long it had been.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I'm surprised, though, because that stuff like I've had this the same one for a long time that.

echo_blades: Yeah. I don't know. Um, but anyways, yeah, that was, that was crazy. Uh, so that's what I did for about a half an hour.

Denis Tyrell: yes

echo_blades: And then after I got through that, I was like, yeah, um, I'm like, yeah, no, I don't want to be in here anymore.

Denis Tyrell: You were sweating and then you decided no.

echo_blades: So I just, I just walked out, went, hung out with Lynn. So, uh,

Denis Tyrell: Oh yeah, I decided ah the ah last week i be I better actually start making some knives um now that you know things have calmed down and Toby and Leland have left, so I started... haven't forged anything in a long time.

Denis Tyrell: So, like, truly forged something to shape. So I grabbed that... um Remember that Nickelstorm pattern I did? The big buoy I had last year at Blade Show?

Denis Tyrell: Another one I'm talking about?

echo_blades: I do. Yes, I do.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. So I had that other piece of that one. um So I figured I would... it's a very different looking buoy just you'll you'll understand when you see it it's not look like my typical buoy knife um but yeah forge that out no on purpose yeah on purpose

echo_blades: by On purpose or did you just... you or you didn't You didn't just, I just let the steel speak to me and just, I yeah i just free form flowed my forging.

Denis Tyrell: no no no no i i i didn't want to like Normally I always have the little shark fin at the top of the buoy.

Denis Tyrell: I didn't do that on purpose because i didn't want to actually stretch out the Damascus anymore. Uh, anyway, I was just, I was going for, it's very flowing.

Denis Tyrell: It's a very more flowing knife than I would typically even do. So, uh, curvy flowy. And then, uh, yeah, I forged that. I was pretty happy with it. Um,

Denis Tyrell: And then I was thinking about, i think I'm going to do that. um Do you know what a penny guard is?

echo_blades: I do not.

Denis Tyrell: That's where the guard has those discs at either end. It's kind of curved and it has like a big disc. You following me? You're not following me.

echo_blades: No one's ever accused me of having a big disc, dude. So, no.

Denis Tyrell: it it looks It almost looks like a coin. It's like the guard, watch my finger, like the guard will go like this, and then there's like a circle here, and it'll be like in this circle there. You see me?

echo_blades: Unfortunately, I'm not watching you because I'm looking up. Go ahead. I'm with you now.

Denis Tyrell: um

echo_blades: Do it again.

Denis Tyrell: I'm not gonna draw it again. Anyway, you'll you'll see it anyway.

echo_blades: Oh, fucker.

Denis Tyrell: But I'm gonna do that, and it's gonna be a frame handle with some Damascus as the frame, ivory um ah scales.

echo_blades: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. Okay. I i see it.

Denis Tyrell: You following me now?

echo_blades: Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. And actually reached out to Gabe Keeling um about doing the engraving. Doing some engraving on the guard and on those on like a spacer.

echo_blades: Oh, nice. I keep wanting to reach out to him to do my tattoo.

Denis Tyrell: With some

echo_blades: My to-do.

Denis Tyrell: to do.

echo_blades: My to-do. What do you mean? I said tattoo. The fuck you did, Toby? You said to-do.

echo_blades: yeah

Denis Tyrell: oh ah So, yeah, it'd be the first one I ever have engraving that I, I don't mean inlay, like the simple stuff that I do. I mean like fancy engraving on it.

Denis Tyrell: So I think that would look kind of cool. So I might have him do that. So, yeah.

echo_blades: Nice. If you don't want to make your own Damascus, I think you should go check out Baker Forge and Tool, um the masters of pattern-welded magic.

echo_blades: um This week, they have... One time, no restock, no reorders, ah patterns. um I think the theme was reincarnation. The two patterns are Thaw Ripple and Phoenix Chevron. um Yeah, you probably already got them, but if you haven't, go check out and see what's left. um I think that's really cool. There's One time, one shot done and yeah, never see it again.

echo_blades: So hopefully you jumped in on that. I know the app users got one day early access to the drops. I think that's noon on Friday for that. And then the interweb goes off the next day.

echo_blades: But you can go Load up your cart, use the discount code TTT10. um And while you're at it, you can throw some Gator Piss in, the ah OG blend, the Max or the Heavy.

echo_blades: Get yourself some Grime Reaper and some Gator Sin. And one of the only cool things Dennis has ever done for any of our sponsors is come up with a great, great, great saying to clean it, etch it, and protect it.

echo_blades: All with Baker Forge and Tool.

Denis Tyrell: That's right.

Denis Tyrell: That's right. Don't you forget it

echo_blades: That's right.

Denis Tyrell: And see, if I think if I would have ordered the the folder parts, if Lawrence would have had those folder parts in stock, I think he would have come to my house and stood beside the mailbox with a bat to make sure that nobody stole them. I think he offers that as a service. So you should order all of your stuff from Maritime Knife Supply and it won't get stolen out of your mailbox.

echo_blades: Yeah, it'll get,

Denis Tyrell: uh whether you need folder folder parts uh abrasives steel you name it go talk to lawrence at maritime knife supply yeah

echo_blades: yeah Yeah, he's got it. They'll have to come to your front porch to steal it. Okay.

Denis Tyrell: yeah uh i spent some time today reconfiguring the shop to make accommodations for Jaden from Fox River Blades, Fox River Knives. i And Jaden, by the way, I apologize. I called you Wolf River um last podcast. i I know it's Fox River. I had Wolf River because he's the master that, um he's the guy that got his master at at um Blade Atlanta this year. So I was talking to him about it. So I was getting my,

Denis Tyrell: my fox in Wolf Rivers confused.

echo_blades: I mean, he'll he'll figure it out after this weekend, but all you're doing is letting me know you're a horrible human being. just like And that's why I love you. But...

Denis Tyrell: Hey, I just spent hours reconfiguring the shot for this young man. um

echo_blades: I'm not...

Denis Tyrell: i i sent you the video. Actually, I posted on Instagram. I even thought this was sketchier than what I would normally try to accomplish ah because I was going to wait for you.

Denis Tyrell: to help me move the mill.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Cause I lowered, and so James in wheelchair for everyone. So, and he's taking a folder class. So I want to make everything accessible for him. So I lowered one of the tables. Um, so it's a great height for him to work on. And I figured, well, i he's going to be using the mill.

Denis Tyrell: Um, so I need to take the mill off the stand cause it's way too high for him. And the mill weighs, I didn't actually weigh it, but it's, it's between 350 and 400 pounds. Like it remember Remember you and I lifted the the lathe?

Denis Tyrell: The mill is way heavier than the lathe. It doesn't look it, but it is. um Because I tried to budge it off the stand and I could barely move it myself.

Denis Tyrell: So it's heavy. um

echo_blades: I was waiting for the call. I knew were, we had talked about it and I figured it was we were going to do it.

Denis Tyrell: right and i was gonna call you and say hey after work today and i'm like oh but we got to record today and you're gonna be a pussy and blah blah blah and uh so i thought huh because i was looking up uh because i had the the the hooks in the ceiling for where the the dust collection system was

echo_blades: Yeah. Yeah.

echo_blades: Thank you.

Denis Tyrell: And I'm like, I wonder if I could put a cable through those around the mill. And at first I was going to use a come along. Um, but then I thought, what am I going to attach it to in order?

Denis Tyrell: You know, what, what is my resistance in order to lift the mill? So I couldn't, I'm like, what what am I going to put around my anvil? That's not heavy enough. Anyway, it was a whole, ah whole ordeal. And then I thought I pushed the, I, I parked the Jeep close enough. So I could use the winch on the front of the Jeep over the hooks to to lift the mill.

Denis Tyrell: It actually worked like a charm. It looks sketchy as hell, but it did work.

echo_blades: Did you didn't actually video you doing it?

Denis Tyrell: i I really wanted to, but at the time it was just me. my um um My tripod was upstairs, so I couldn't like...

Denis Tyrell: Because I had one hand on on the mill, one hand on the on the um the winch, like like remote thing.

echo_blades: Remote thing? Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: And I was like, I just get't i just can't. I can't video it.

echo_blades: Yeah, because you sent me the picture and I was like, hmm, okay.

Denis Tyrell: Well, sent you a video showing it.

echo_blades: And then, was it the video?

Denis Tyrell: You didn't watch the video. It was a video. Yeah, it was a video showing the cable and then showing the front of the Jeep. You didn't watch the video.

echo_blades: I saw it on, oh, there is a video.

Denis Tyrell: Oh, yeah.

echo_blades: Oh, yeah, you're right. i Well, you had a picture right next to it after it.

Denis Tyrell: Well, the picture wasn't completed.

echo_blades: Yeah, so i didn't I just thought you showed me a ah before and after. I didn't see it in there.

Denis Tyrell: No, no, no.

echo_blades: But I did see it on on on Facebook or something.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: And I was like, oh, this fucking jack wagon. That was a guaranteed disaster.

Denis Tyrell: the i was not

echo_blades: you could you would have told me you were going to do it I would have been like, I'll be right there, dude.

Denis Tyrell: I was not worried about...

echo_blades: We could drop it together.

Denis Tyrell: I was not I was not worried about the joist being able to lift it what I was worried about is those hooks pulling out um but that's why I used two of them um and it bent one like when you see it it's like bent in it like if

echo_blades: The hook pulling out. Yeah.

echo_blades: what I would have, that's what I would assume that wouldve would have, would have failed before it coming out of the joist.

Denis Tyrell: yeah Yeah. All I need is a, you know, $4,000 mill dropping on the floor. That would have been great, but I needed just enough.

echo_blades: Mm-hmm.

Denis Tyrell: Like I wasn't trying to hoist it. I just enough to get it off the tray and then pull the table under it and then let it down. So anyway, it worked like a charm.

echo_blades: god i'm mean

Denis Tyrell: So.

echo_blades: i'm I'm impressed. Hillbilly engineering right there, buddy.

Denis Tyrell: that Someone else said that. um There was some funny comments on that post.

echo_blades: Yeah, Spencer, why don't you just pick it up?

Denis Tyrell: ah yeah

echo_blades: Well, you could, buddy, but the rest of us couldn't.

Denis Tyrell: um But I moved some of the stuff out of the shop just to make more room. um But yeah, I'm ready. Actually, the only thing I have left, I need to just draw ah take the you know those those liftable casters on the bottom of the Ameribraid.

Denis Tyrell: I need to um just take those off so it drops drops at three inches um because it's pretty high. I want to have it a little lower for Jamie. But um that's a great feature. The Ameribraid comes with those amazing um um casters that you can jack up and down and ah they're the best.

echo_blades: Don't say that again. Don't say that again.

Denis Tyrell: Shut up.

echo_blades: Do not say that again.

Denis Tyrell: um

echo_blades: and that's

Denis Tyrell: They're, uh, amazing. And it's just something that they include. So you guys got it. If you don't have an Ameribraid and you need a grinder, definitely check them out. All just all the little things about that grinder, um, surprise me, you know, every time I think about it. Uh, so go get yourself an Ameribraid.

Denis Tyrell: at Ameribraid.com, uh, use the discount code triple T 10 for 10% off accessories or a triple T for a discount on machines. They got the fastback two by 72 grinder that I'm talking about, but also the hyper disc that, uh, rotary tool extraordinaire. That's can be a buffer. It can be a disc grinder and it has a whole bunch of other cool attachments.

Denis Tyrell: So, and lots of amazing attachments for the grinder.

echo_blades: Yes, sir.

Denis Tyrell: I will be, uh, using that rotary platen tomorrow on that buoy to convex that edge. So yes, cool stuff.

echo_blades: Nice. Have you set the rest yet?

Denis Tyrell: Oh, yeah. i I was, you you don't understand how happy I was when when I did that. i was like gleeful when ah when you and thank you for actually watching the video, um but when I saw that and when I said it, that really made my day when I can just...

echo_blades: I can't tell you how I still every now and again, just for shits and giggles, I'll check it. And it's just, it's right back home every time it is ingenious, simple, and just, just the, the coolest, like you said, yeah, you, you literally get, yeah,

Denis Tyrell: yeah absolutely

Denis Tyrell: it made me so happy because i i have a second rest on my ameribraid that is permanently set on an ankle just so i don't have to reset the main rest like that's how lazy i am that's how much i don't like having the zero but now i don't even reach for the other rest anymore because it goes back to zero instantly

echo_blades: That's right.

Denis Tyrell: So yeah, kudos to the boys at Ameribraid for thinking of that.

echo_blades: I agree.

Denis Tyrell: And Jared for actually watching one of the videos. At least he watches someone's videos because they're not mine.

echo_blades: Well, they still have momentum, dude. I can't say it.

Denis Tyrell: ah Did you watch my video this week or last week, whatever?

echo_blades: I did not. No, I did not.

Denis Tyrell: Of course you didn't.

echo_blades: ah Dude, I've been watching nothing but ah our founding our well, I did watch that.

Denis Tyrell: US Open

echo_blades: i actually got pissed off. My golfer really shit the bed. But um I've been watching on Netflix has a bunch of documentaries on our founding fathers. in the, in light of the, our uh, birthday of the greatest country in the world.

echo_blades: Um, I watched one on Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt. I'm about to start one on Ulysses, uh, Grant. Um, yeah, I was, i was, was,

Denis Tyrell: Wow, look at you getting all and historical.

echo_blades: And this happened to me too when you took your your your citizen test.

Denis Tyrell: Yes, yes.

echo_blades: But like there's just there's there's a moment where you realize, like I know a lot how much retention if I'm asked about it. But man, it has been so informative. And I'm really digging this. I am really digging.

Denis Tyrell: You know what this is a sign of?

echo_blades: ah

Denis Tyrell: You're getting old.

echo_blades: I'm old. Yeah, 100%. 100%. hundred percent A hundred percent. There's no, I've already done all that.

Denis Tyrell: you're You're going to start watching World War II documentaries pretty soon.

echo_blades: I, yeah, that, that's, that's the, this was, this was new and I am like into it. Like, like the, one of the, the the things that when i was watching the George Washington one um was he, and I thought this is super cool because he started out in his twenties in the military for,

echo_blades: on the British military. And he, his goal and dreams were to be a high ranking military official and in the British, George Washington.

Denis Tyrell: Who are you talking about? Oh.

echo_blades: Yeah. Our first president. And he's, he got his ass whooped in his first couple of ah when he first had command. um And then they were dicking him around and then he went back and then they basically pigeonholed him and he was never going to advance. So he quit.

echo_blades: And I was just like, what a bad decision. Like you, you, you, if they would have it, you know, inched him or pushed him along into what he wanted to, we would, this whole thing wouldn't have happened. Like I, it was just fucking awesome to to see, but it was really weird to see him in a, in a red coat.

echo_blades: And, uh, you know, so that kind of, i don't know. That's what I'm doing. So sorry. No triple T's for me. um

Denis Tyrell: i so I see where I rank below the presidents, the dead ones.

echo_blades: That's right. Yes.

Denis Tyrell: um My video last week is on, was on ah beginner mistakes and how to avoid them. So it,

echo_blades: How did you say anybody's highly sought out and coveted style is stupid? Don't do that.

Denis Tyrell: No, no, didn't say that.

echo_blades: Oh, good for you.

Denis Tyrell: Nothing, nothing controversial, though. I did feel like reaching out to a few people and asking to use their pictures so I could post.

echo_blades: right

Denis Tyrell: ah

echo_blades: yeah

Denis Tyrell: but

echo_blades: Ah!

Denis Tyrell: I thought that would be the ultimate dick move, but, um, no, I didn't do it.

Denis Tyrell: Um, but things like, you know, pins, uh, rings around pins and uh you know what was some of the other things um pins oh off center like when when your pins are like off center vertically it looks ridiculous um someone said oh you you should have mentioned uh sanding the front of your um scales before you glue them on i'm like oh you're right i mean i did miss that

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: I did the... ah

echo_blades: That's a revelation for us all at one point, right?

Denis Tyrell: Right. the um The hand sanding. If you're going to do it, fucking do it.

echo_blades: yeah that's right.

Denis Tyrell: Except I used the Yoda... um ah there Do or do not, there's no try. um Yeah, couple things like that. And how to avoid them. And hey, stop doing dumb shit to your knives.

Denis Tyrell: But... um Yeah, as always, I'm always looking for topics to to do some videos on. So I was, I just thought I, basically it usually means I see a couple of knives on Instagram to piss me off and I decided to do a video as what happened.

echo_blades: Hey, take the inspiration where it comes.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Right. Oh.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: yeah

echo_blades: ah If you're looking for some ah cool composite, sticky, major, grippy handle material to finish out, go check out Grip Tech Composites, Grip Tech Official on IG.

echo_blades: the maker of GripX, GripX 3D, Limitless. And as promised here for the past couple of weeks, I officially have the upcoming ah featured colors of the week for um a month or so down the road here.

echo_blades: um this week uh so what what you have to do is you got to go sign up for uh matt's newsletter um every week uh there'll be a discount code for a featured color this week is viridian which is a freaking beautiful handle material you're uh the the knife that i made uh kim has viridian um yep yep yep um

Denis Tyrell: Okay. So it's like a dark greenish with black.

echo_blades: I'm almost positive at that or, or the Viridian is purple, but um anyways, I'll have to double check, but Viridian is the color. Uh, every week we'll, he was going to feature a new one. You can use that, uh, the discount code that he has there.

echo_blades: And I don't think I'll get yelled at for saying this, but if you guys so choose desired to pay less for something, given the opportunity, we do have a discount code of a triple T 10. That'll get you 10% off your entire order and an additional 10% off for that featured color too. So, um,

echo_blades: I don't know. Let's, yeah, let's take my shoes off real quick. Yep. That's 20%. Um,

echo_blades: um so make sure you guys are taking advantage of that. And, um, and then also, upcoming a very, very, very, very very big, 4th of July sale is on its way.

echo_blades: Um, 25% off classic red, classic white and classic blue over that weekend. So, um, go check that out coming up here pretty quick.

Denis Tyrell: Very cool. ah Yeah, I'm looking forward to some of those colors on the list that we're not allowed to mention.

echo_blades: That's right. Mm-hmm.

Denis Tyrell: Just wait. um Come to think of it, that buoy, did do a little clip on Instagram of me forging that buoy because I highlighted...

Denis Tyrell: the two bastards hammers um so if you guys are looking for a hammer to do some awesome forging with go check out two bastards texas smithian supplies for all your hammer needs i i think i used them all on that uh on that build and in the class on sunday certainly used your uh your crisscross applesauce one um the

echo_blades: the double the the double The double D?

Denis Tyrell: The double, the double D. Yeah. Use that one. um yeah, I think we used them all. Um, so if you guys need a hammer, go check out Frank and Nita because Jared, why?

echo_blades: ain't it grand to have a fat peen in your hand?

Denis Tyrell: That's right.

echo_blades: That's why, Dennis. That is why. dennis

Denis Tyrell: Um,

echo_blades: and is why

Denis Tyrell: um what else? Oh, I'm making some new demand. Remember that Damascus that, um, that kind of wing kind of pattern that I had in the buoy and, um, at blade show, you know, like the big one, the black one, you're looking confused.

echo_blades: Mm-hmm.

Denis Tyrell: Uh, so that's that same.

echo_blades: No, I'm, yeah, that's that's my dumb look.

Denis Tyrell: bit Yeah. That's your usual.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Um, I, that, that piece of that, scene I was going to reattempt that same one and make it, you know, more flowy that I actually wanted, but then I was looking and I know you don't

echo_blades: Mm-hmm.

Denis Tyrell: Maybe you know this pattern, but I'm thinking you don't. But um there's a pattern from Jim Poor, which is pinecone Damascus. You ever seen that one?

echo_blades: You are correct.

Denis Tyrell: Yes. So I was looking at a picture of pinecone Damascus and thought, wow, that's that's the starting billet I have is really close to the starting billet for pinecone Damascus.

Denis Tyrell: So I'm like, I'm going to make a really fancy version of a pinecone Damascus. because it's got those gradient layers in the nickel. and Anyway, so i'm in I'm still in the middle of forging that one. I did the four-way today. Really excited about this pattern. I think it's going to look really cool. And I have a new folder, another new folder design that um has like fancy curvy bolsters on both the front and the back that I'm going to do in matching Damascus.

Denis Tyrell: So um yeah, stay tuned on this one. i think it's going to look really cool. There'll be a video on that one as well for sure.

echo_blades: Nice.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. So lots of stuff coming up. I'm already thinking about what I'm going to make for austin um for Austria.

echo_blades: You know, it didn't. Okay.

Denis Tyrell: What were you going to say?

echo_blades: I was gonna say, you know what didn't get stolen from my mailbox? So as a direct result of the 2026 log song contest that took place inside of our room in play show,

echo_blades: I forgot to say this, but I ordered new sleep headphones and

Denis Tyrell: you ordered earplugs like

echo_blades: and And I did this in the middle of the night. i looked up. i looked up

Denis Tyrell: i think you must have been angry shopping

echo_blades: I was fucking pissed, dude. I'm telling you, you guys almost died. but i looked up best earphones or sleep headphone earbuds or some shit like that. And every now and again, I'll do this. I do it for golf stuff all the time. But it'll put together some like list 10...

echo_blades: ten um, items and, and it'll rank them from, you know, quality cost and, and give you their, their best recommendation.

Denis Tyrell: yeah yeah

echo_blades: Right. So this one, I go through them all and I, i you know, ranging from, you know, ah not like that much money to, you know, a lot of money. And I just went to the first and they always give you like Amazon links or links to, to the product.

echo_blades: And, uh, so this one was the top rated one was something called Clarius, um, um And I was reading about it as like, oh they're great noise cancellation, comfortable in your ear. ah the The cons were like, they're...

echo_blades: rarely in stock. I clicked the link. Oh, three in stock. I'm like, fuck it. I look in the, in the cost. It was like 80 bucks. So, and this is the middle of the night. am in the in the middle of getting fucking rattled the roof. all off And I just said, fuck yeah. Angry fucking click shop and, ah and put them in the cart and then fell, you know, asleep for three seconds, woke up and probably started looking for something else. But um anyways, I forgot that I did it.

echo_blades: And not too long ago, I looked and I was like, where the fuck is the tracker? Where are these things? You know, I, I ordered them, but i was like, what the fuck are they called?

Denis Tyrell: And you didn't actually order them, you just put them in the cart?

echo_blades: I couldn't remember it. And then all of a sudden the, the the brand Clarius came to me and I was like, what? You know, i was trying to find the name of the thing. And I'm best sleep headphones. click And dude, I get this AI response.

echo_blades: There is no brand called this. And I'm like, oh, fuck, I got duped.

Denis Tyrell: You were duped?

echo_blades: So I ended up finding it, and it is hilarious, but it it is a Chinese fucking knockoff of some headphones. They came today, and I'm like, all right. So they came today.

echo_blades: I opened it up. The fucking lid to the can the the case is already about to break after like four times of me opening it.

Denis Tyrell: Oh, they're like rechargeable kind of thing.

echo_blades: They're rechargeable. you if They are so cheesy, dude. I was, yeah. So chalk that up.

Denis Tyrell: Well, you bought em on Amazon, just return them.

echo_blades: i'm gonna um ah They weren't on Amazon.

Denis Tyrell: ah

echo_blades: It took me to their site.

Denis Tyrell: Oh, man.

echo_blades: And I was like, oh, man. So anyways, 80 bucks, but I'm going to try them tonight. We'll see what happens.

Denis Tyrell: You know what it works even better?

echo_blades: but

Denis Tyrell: The 299 the Hero's earplugs.

echo_blades: those are Those are a close second. But, you know, any kind of ear, anything that can produce sound is fucking fantastic at large noise-canceling decibels.

Denis Tyrell: um Parker was right beside me and I couldn't hear him a bit with...

echo_blades: things

echo_blades: That's because you were in tandem. Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: no

echo_blades: And you had earplugs.

Denis Tyrell: When I'm awake, I couldn't hear him.

echo_blades: Dude, I swear.

echo_blades: I have the video. Don't make me fucking a play it on here. This is fact.

Denis Tyrell: Well, when when the the room request comes in, would you like me to get your own room?

echo_blades: Sure.

Denis Tyrell: You're paying for it.

echo_blades: That's fine. If I could fucking sleep, that'd be great. I've done 90% of that's my fault. So, but it happened and you will forever be guilty.

Denis Tyrell: yeah right um who haven't we talked about grip tech oh even he kilns if you

echo_blades: Yeah, that package ain't getting stolen out of your mailbox.

Denis Tyrell: No, no, it is not.

echo_blades: That's for sure.

Denis Tyrell: um my my My big one came on like three pallets when I ordered it. So yeah, no one was stealing that. But if you guys need ah need yourself a heat treating kiln for knife making, you got to get yourself an even heat because they're the best around.

echo_blades: Mm-hmm.

Denis Tyrell: Family owned and operated since 1948, building the best heat treating ovens available.

echo_blades: Absolutely.

Denis Tyrell: ah As Jared says, the fluffer of the knife community.

echo_blades: I haven't said that.

Denis Tyrell: Well, no, I said it on your behalf in the episode you weren't here.

echo_blades: Oh, did you?

Denis Tyrell: yeah You didn't listen to it, so...

echo_blades: I didn't. listen to

echo_blades: I was just thinking, should I, should I, should I ask Spencer if that's offensive or not?

Denis Tyrell: ah you

echo_blades: But yeah, if you want to get it hard, yeah that's the place to go.

Denis Tyrell: we We did this whole so this whole bit when you weren't here that you were going to be pissed off that I was stealing your line. Yeah.

echo_blades: Oh, no, no, no, no. I was pissed off just the fact that I knew I was going to be pissed off listening to you two clowns.

Denis Tyrell: yeah

Denis Tyrell: ah If you guys need a ah need a kiln, go talk to Spencer at Even Heat. He will hook you up, ah but there's lots of distributors you can find those at. One of them is Maritime Knife Supply if you're up in Canada.

Denis Tyrell: um But go check them out. ah They're awesome. I have two. Jared has two. You know, cool people have at least one.

echo_blades: At least one. Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: At least one.

echo_blades: Let's try it.

Denis Tyrell: And lastly, if you need to get those knives sold, get them up on the Drawpoint, which is that free newsletter ah built specifically to connect makers to collectors. No throttling, no shadow bans, no guessing if social media is going to show your post. So go check them out. It's free. It's it's the kind of price that Jared likes. It's free.

echo_blades: right

Denis Tyrell: He would have to actually make a knife in order to use it, but, you

echo_blades: That's true. I have enough money to make a collect call.

Denis Tyrell: You're busy ungluing things from your desk.

Denis Tyrell: ah go Go get yourself up in the Drawpoint. I used the Drawpoint last week when I had all those knives that I finally got off my ass and put on the website. Oh yeah, by the way, I have knives on the website if you want some. Go check them out.

Denis Tyrell: um

echo_blades: But wait, there's more. Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: ah Shall we do some Maker Spotlights?

echo_blades: Sure.

Denis Tyrell: All right, you go first.

echo_blades: You could just waited three more seconds. Who do I have?

echo_blades: Dang it.

Denis Tyrell: Awkward silence.

echo_blades: It's not an awkward silence. It's... Is that hubris?

Denis Tyrell: Hubris, yeah.

echo_blades: Hubris?

Denis Tyrell: you and Is that hubris?

echo_blades: wanna say I want to say hubris. Hubris.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

echo_blades: Hubris underscore workshop.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, it is hubris.

echo_blades: Um, I was, yeah, I was cruising through, Instagram the other day and this was actually a while ago. Cause I messaged myself so I wouldn't forget it.

echo_blades: Um, and, uh, I don't know which one it was, but i started checking out his stuff and, ah I was digging what this guy's, uh, doing lot of, uh,

echo_blades: well-rounded types of knives, some culinary, some EDC, some hunters, some Damascus, just good, nice, clean, some Cerakote, kind of almost kind of little distress thing like I did with the Stormtrooper.

echo_blades: But um I was digging what I was seeing, and then I looked up and I was like, wow, this dude's only got 243 followers.

Denis Tyrell: That's exactly what I thought.

echo_blades: i'm like,

Denis Tyrell: Um, cause expected to go up there and see thousands.

echo_blades: yeah

Denis Tyrell: Um, I couldn't believe it.

echo_blades: yeah Yeah. um So I was kind of shocked by that and thought, you know, that's what we do these maker spotlights for is to shout out known and even better, you know, people that don't have that much, you know, maybe just started this channel, i don't know, or the account, but yeah.

echo_blades: I just remember when I got shouted out, it was fricking the coolest thing in the world. So anyways, go check them out. Hubris underscore workshop on Instagram. Like I said, he's got 243 followers and yeah, go show them some love and tell them the boys at Triptisa.

echo_blades: What's up?

Denis Tyrell: No, no, no. 244. Come on. Don't shortchange him.

echo_blades: Oh, of two. Oh shit.

Denis Tyrell: I just followed him.

echo_blades: I was going to say, let me refresh. Hey, boom. Boom.

Denis Tyrell: Look at that.

echo_blades: He actually put his maker's mark on the, on the lows, on the heel of a chef knife. I don't think I've seen that on the,

Denis Tyrell: On what? Oh, yeah. Yeah, you don't see that very often.

echo_blades: I was kind I'm kind of digging that.

Denis Tyrell: Oh, that's cool.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I see he's got some Copper Damascus in there, too.

echo_blades: right.

Denis Tyrell: Very cool.

echo_blades: yeah Yeah. Like I said, he's got a little bit of everything and I don't know where he's at, but, um,

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Yeah. Some burnt trout.

echo_blades: He was at the Garden Valley Saturday market on June 13th.

echo_blades: Pick a Garden Valley. Go see him. Maybe that's not a one-time-and-done.

Denis Tyrell: He, uh, rural Idaho. That's where he grew up at least. Uh, yeah, sounds like he's still in Idaho.

echo_blades: Cool. Who do you got?

Denis Tyrell: I got that from his website.

echo_blades: I was going to go there, but you beat me to it.

Denis Tyrell: I beat to it.

echo_blades: You're so good, dude. Oh, yeah. No one's heard of this dude.

Denis Tyrell: You talking about mine?

echo_blades: Yeah. ah Hold on for this, guys. This is a freaking revelation. ah

Denis Tyrell: yeah I actually had, I thought for sure we had, we had done Mr. Salem st Straub before. But um we have not. I actually saw his latest video um rape before um right before this, and I really like that pattern um that he's done on that integral chef knife, which is kind of, I don't know what he calls this, a newish pattern. yeah he didn't give it a name yet.

Denis Tyrell: But it looks cool. i think It's kind of like like chain links, which he's been doing a lot lately, but um some other aspects in it.

echo_blades: the first video. Oh, yeah.

Denis Tyrell: uh, yeah, that little IG video he's got up there. So cool stuff. Um, if you're, if you're crazy and you don't follow Salem, go give them a, go give them a look.

echo_blades: okay

Denis Tyrell: It's just Salem Straub.

echo_blades: Mm-hmm.

Denis Tyrell: and, uh, he's up in Washington, not too far from, uh, our buddy Noah, a couple of hours from Noah up there. And, uh, I'd say the great white North, but I guess it's not quite that far.

Denis Tyrell: Um, But yeah, Salem's an awesome maker and his website is prometheannives.com. But go check him out on Instagram and you'll see everything he does. He does YouTube as well.

echo_blades: He does some some good stuff. Quickly outpaces me though. He's a very detailed about his orders of operation and has the coolest and most awesome tools.

Denis Tyrell: He does. He's got some, he's got a really big power hammer. He's got a root, like ah the a massive bandsaw. He's just got some.

echo_blades: Yeah, really big is yeah kind of a theme there for him.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Yeah. We have tool envy.

echo_blades: Yeah, 100%.

Denis Tyrell: Take that however you want.

echo_blades: But there's any time anytime i'm ever like want to wow somebody that's not familiar with Damascus, I go...

Denis Tyrell: Um,

echo_blades: uh, to my good friend, Dennis, um, Baker, and then I'll show him the the chain link. Cause that's, that's the coolest thing that, that blew my mind when I saw that.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, that's good one.

echo_blades: Um, and I watched him he a long time ago. I was like, man, that, that, that pattern is just incredible. He's like, I'm going YouTube better on how to, how to do it.

echo_blades: And that's the one where I was like, yeah, I'm not, I'll have to grow up and get smart before I can follow that one

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, maybe finish a press.

echo_blades: Yeah. it It's not even the press dude. Like it just, that, that, that that is some serious creativity and vision to, to put that one together. Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, yeah, that's definitely planning. There's no flying front of this, flying by the seat of your pants with a pattern like that.

echo_blades: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: And there's a lot of planning involved.

echo_blades: I guess that's the, uh, the accidental cool looking Damascus and the, the very strategic and planned versions.

Denis Tyrell: Yes. Yeah.

echo_blades: So cool.

Denis Tyrell: Yep. Um, yeah.

echo_blades: I wasn't following him though. So I just followed him.

Denis Tyrell: oh

echo_blades: I'm kidding.

Denis Tyrell: Oh, um, on other news. The jet skis are finally working was out all day.

echo_blades: Oh,

Denis Tyrell: Most of the day yesterday, put a whole tank gas through the jet skis. There were, they're fine. They're working great. I'm very happy.

echo_blades: I misread your text message today then.

Denis Tyrell: So,

echo_blades: That's why I gave you the thumbs down.

Denis Tyrell: huh?

echo_blades: You text me today something about.

Denis Tyrell: No, no, that was something else.

echo_blades: Oh,

Denis Tyrell: That was something else.

echo_blades: No, it wasn't.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, the thumbs down one was about a new new tool in the shop.

echo_blades: oh Oh, oh, oh, oh, I thought. Sorry. Sorry.

Denis Tyrell: No, I knew why you thumbs down that one. Yeah.

echo_blades: Yeah, sorry. I missed.

Denis Tyrell: said

echo_blades: Yeah, I put those. I mixed those. Yeah, fuck off.

echo_blades: I mean, great, but fuck off. See, it's great it's really. Guys, you'll never understand. i hope one day you get to have a friend like Dennis. because

echo_blades: There are good friends and then there's better friends to have.

Denis Tyrell: Oh, really? Like you're not going to get to use it?

echo_blades: That's what I'm saying. ah um' I'm saying you guys are all fucked. Like, my buddy's my buddy. and He's probably got cooler shit than you do. yeah

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, there may be a new tool incoming to the shop, so stay tuned. I'm sure I'll talk about it. It's still in the works, so nothing final yet.

echo_blades: That's great. Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: yeah um what was one of the wait what was the other thing i wanted talk about uh oh the sci-fi challenge um is we have all of the sponsors uh secured for the sci-fi challenge i'm going to be working on the announce video probably tomorrow yes tomorrow uh so that announced video will be out thursday morning um may be talking out a turn here i think yeah i think it's thursday morning which will announce the timelines um uh still waiting for confirmation on a few

echo_blades: you have all the channels involved already?

Denis Tyrell: um so it may be preliminary but i think on this one unfortunately we had a couple of the judges from the last challenge um are not able to part that would be judges for this one are not able to participate so that drops us to only like three judging channels so i've made a call and this time there's going to be no judges bracket

Denis Tyrell: But every channel is going to judge the channels. Meaning every judge every channel gets to vote on who they think the best build is.

Denis Tyrell: So there's still going to be a voting aspect that is not just from um the viewers. So that's the way we're going to do it. And you can't vote for yourself.

echo_blades: I was going to say, and everybody votes for themselves, and we have a fucking stalemate.

Denis Tyrell: no no everyone is gonna everyone is gonna vote for their first second and third place um builds of all of the builds so we'll and we'll know i'll know if they vote for themselves um but uh yeah that's how it's gonna work so there's gonna be no judges bracket on this one um which will make it a little it'll a little more fun um i think

echo_blades: That's fucking...

Denis Tyrell: because no judges bracket, no separate. Yeah. But um I'm excited. i already know what I'm going to build. I've already started. um haven't started the build. Don't worry, I'm not cheating. um But starting to think about the design and and getting some material together, things like that. So

Denis Tyrell: so excited. Should be fun.

echo_blades: I have a shit-eating grin on my face that you can't see.

Denis Tyrell: Yes.

Denis Tyrell: Jared, are you going to do it this year?

echo_blades: Absolutely not.

Denis Tyrell: is this Is this a fun topic for you or is this a meh?

echo_blades: Yeah, I'm...

Denis Tyrell: Come on, you can do the Stormtrooper. That's sci-fi.

echo_blades: Okay, maybe. Maybe.

echo_blades: Maybe.

Denis Tyrell: Um, the, the prizes for the viewers are even better this year. Plus we have a new, an additional sponsor this year. So, uh, yeah, I think it's pretty cool. I think the, uh, the viewer portion is going to be off the hook this year.

Denis Tyrell: I think we'll see some fun builds. I think the viewer ones are going to be more exciting than the, than the YouTube builds. I think we're going to see a lot of cool builds from the viewers. So.

echo_blades: We always do.

Denis Tyrell: yes yes yeah but i i don't know this one there's a lot of um you know the the military challenge yeah like the real this one is like you can see really off the wall builds so that's going to be interesting those are cool to see yeah anyway so stay tuned you'll see the announced video on thursday

echo_blades: We always do.

Denis Tyrell: All right. Do I have anything else? I got no other notes. I'm done. I'm done with you.

echo_blades: good

Denis Tyrell: I have ah Jaden and Mr. Noah coming Thursday night. Well, Friday morning, I guess. But I'll be picking Noah up on Thursday. So we're going to have some fun in the shop this weekend.

Denis Tyrell: I'm sure there'll be some fun stories after that. And I'll tell you all about it next week.

echo_blades: I'm looking forward to it.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, you're gonna come by?

echo_blades: I am.

echo_blades: No.

Denis Tyrell: Yes, you are.

echo_blades: like I'll be golfing.

echo_blades: Noah. Noah. Noah. I am not coming over there.

Denis Tyrell: Yes, you are.

echo_blades: Yes. Of course I am.

Denis Tyrell: Of course you are. ah Let me know what day, because we'll figure out dinner or something.

echo_blades: I will probably be there most evenings.

Denis Tyrell: Oh, most evenings. I don't know if you're invited that much.

echo_blades: Oh, I just already talked to Kim. We're good.

Denis Tyrell: You liar. All right.

echo_blades: No, one of my favorite people is going to be in town. there you're You're not going to not see me there. I

Denis Tyrell: Cool, cool. All right, folks. We will see you next time.

echo_blades: almost did it.

echo_blades: And I'll tell you that's a wrap.
