Doctor Who Episode Finale Discussion

00:01:02
Speaker
Yes, we are now going to be talking about the two-part episode finale of Doctor Who Aren't Me Tobias. Yes, and we have just came out of the cinema. Yes, about 1.10 at night. Yeah. Well, what a two-part finale there, Tobias. What do you think? As a newbie to this kind of thing. Yeah, well we have heard you talk about this for weeks on end. Yep. Following the series. And we have ended it in quite some fashion. Yes. Going to the cinema, watching the two-part finale of Legend of a Movie Sunday and Empire of Death. Empire of Death, yes. Oh, what a good part, part one, wasn't it? Would you be on part one? Yes, let's break it down. Yes.
00:01:51
Speaker
um Part one for me ah was very revealing in the sense of we got to see Well look, let me start from the beginning. Yeah, let's start from the beginning. So at the beginning, the doctor comes in to units HQ. Yeah, question in. And... Like the times were shaking, wasn't it? A little bit move. Maybe something attached. I'm not going to say what yet. Until we get to the end of part one. Yeah, and then they went through, which is quite...
00:02:25
Speaker
Obviously clever of how they set it up and they said about this character, Susan. Yes. And they looked at her name and then they said about Tardis. And the unit went, yeah, I know that. I knew that. Yeah, they said it was so obvious. Straight away.

Storytelling and Connections to the Fourth Doctor

00:02:41
Speaker
But then as the episode progressed, we found out that it actually went a lot deeper. In fact, it went so deep in the storyline. It went all the way back to the Fourth Doctor. And that was... excellent story telling how they managed to sew all that together. And how sort of T. Davis made it go back that far to that full doctor era, to that up to date. Absolutely genius, so from an outsider perspective. What do you think? Even without that knowledge, without that background, the way that they presented that information, even just solely just watching
00:03:17
Speaker
that bit. Just that I could see how it all tied in obviously not as detailed as what I know what you know but yeah it presented enough information there for me to see that oh that's what happened this has traveled with the doctor since the ah giggle which is going all the way back and has spread throughout time i so as I can I say yeah like as from the giggle they said in the giggle triad system yeah since then they've been hinting yeah with the sound of toes growing and everything else and then
00:03:54
Speaker
The reveal of

Revealing the Terrifying Villain

00:03:57
Speaker
the baddie. The baddie and the almighty baddie, if I may say. Yeah, absolutely terrifying. I didn't expect it to be that scary. Our 10 wouldn't feel scariness of that baddie. Look, I am giving this, I would give it a 9.5 out of 10. The fact that this character, Susan, who was good at the start. Yeah, who we were led to believe was a ah relation to the doctor. Susan by from the doctor's granddaughter. But then she lifted her head up and went, and then the effects were there. Oh yes, so much effects on the face. Which had transformed these are the red glowing eyes. yeah Of soutac. And it had like this skull and that, just that in image alone, I thought it was really scary. It was, it was so scary. And the fact that children watch this,
00:04:57
Speaker
yeah and like those were slight couple When I looked in the audience half a few after that scene, I saw loads of children there, yeah about no age. But there was boom. I'm thinking out of soul on ah yeah i'm figure if I was a kid watching that, I'm going to have nightmares. I'm even wondering whether I'm going to have nightmares tonight. After watching both episodes.

Hope and Anticipation for Part Two

00:05:21
Speaker
And the fact that she can just reach out and touch anyone and then turn them to dust. yeah To sand and dust and dead.
00:05:29
Speaker
but then not just touch someone and don't let it off, but then she gets her hand open and blows sand and turns them to death that way. Yeah and then the whole planet climate is covered with dust. Like the death sand. and then called our com but So that wipes out everything and so we're left with nothing. With absolutely nothing but one lasting hope. is ruby sunday is ruby sunday and the time window yeah in the units building oh yes and what happens in the time window in part one we see ruby sunday's mum but not as we thought yes still in the cloak
00:06:15
Speaker
Now, if you're hearing any sound now, that is because we are... Walking past. Walking past. On our left-hand side... Right, is the mill. Is the mill and the home of CCR. Yeah, 104.5m. But on our right-hand side is... The home of Aldi. Is Aldi with a very big, noisy lorry. You can hear that. That's why you can hear it. Well, at the end of part one, overall, that was a good episode. Part one was two parts special. Part one absolutely got me set up and ready for part two. And then there was a 15 minute interval. Well, yeah, there was a 15 minute or interval, but what we're going to do, we are going to come back after this track. Are you, are you coming to the tree?
00:07:02
Speaker
They strung up a man, they say who murdered three. Strange things had happened here, no stranger would it be if we met at midnight in the hanging tree. Are you? Are you coming to the tree where dad may call down for his love to flee? Strange things did happen, you know stranger would it be if we met at midnight in the hanging tree? Are you, are you coming to the tree?
00:07:45
Speaker
But I told you to run so we'd both be free Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be If we met midnight in the hanging tree Are you, are you coming to the tree Where a necklace of hope side by side with me Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be If we met at midnight in the hanging tree Are you, are you coming to the tree? I told you to run so we'd both be free Strange things did happen here, no stranger wouldn't be If we met at midnight in the hanging tree Are you, are you
00:08:43
Speaker
I'm coming to the tree, but I strung up a man, I've saved him runnin' free. Strange things have happened to you, stranger would it be. We left and lived, right in the hanging tree. Are you, are you, coming to the tree? Truth and hope, now for his love to feel. Strange things have
00:09:40
Speaker
Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen.
00:10:28
Speaker
So we are back, but yeah you are now still listening too. Monday Night Mayhem with Doctor Who review of... There's a movie Sunday and Empire of Death. That's right, and this is out on the field. This yeah is our recording of us... On the way back after seeing it fresh done. Exactly, straight after viewing it. In childhood.

Cinema Experience vs. TV

00:10:54
Speaker
Now, Luke, before we get into part two, yeah can I just ask you how was it being a Doctor Who fan and watching Doctor Who in the cinema? It was but way better than watching it on TV because you can see stuff. If you watch it on TV, it's a small screen, you might miss stuff. yeah But if you watch it in the cinema, it's a bigger screen, you might see what you miss on a small screen.
00:11:19
Speaker
Well, because in terms of... ah The effects. Well, yeah, in terms of just the look. Yeah. I thought it didn't look out of place. It didn't look like a TV show. It just looked like a movie. Yeah, it didn't look cheap at all. It was it was there, wasn't it? Stylistically, it looked incredible on the big screen. Yeah, it just looked perfect. especially with like part one it had all the effects what looked good on TV but bigger on the big screen perfect yeah very it's like made for the cinema yeah very awfulful very slick production i thought that was incredible because i i did go into it i thought how is that going to play out watching a tv show oh on a big screen yeah cinema in the audience
00:12:00
Speaker
But absolutely incredible, really good. But yeah, let's get into the story. Yes, let's get into, like, before that, there was a special message, wasn't there? Yes! From Neil Gibson, Ruby Sunday. Yeah, we had a 15-minute interval. Yeah, and there was a message from me with something I sell saying if any day I want to bought tickets, I can't see it. Yeah, because we did wonder, because obviously we were waiting with the countdown. Yeah. We thought, is it going to be once a day, Davis? Is it going to be the doctor? Or is it going to be Sootheck coming back saying, ah, you can't stop me. Doors are locked.
00:12:33
Speaker
And then when Ruby came up on the screen, she could, she did appear slightly emotional. Yeah, like from part one. And she was saying, thank you for coming out and watching this on the big screen. And she did say like, we could solve all your questions, but well, nearly. But what was interesting is because it was Ruby, that tied into the end of part two. You know, so that was nice that you got to see her. On the big screen, just her. And her giving that message to the audience. Yeah, it was the Doctor who would have been a bit different. Yes, I thought that was really her, so we won't say... Anything else part that. Because we've got to build up to that. Yeah, it starts episode two or the finale part two starts with the bits from the last episode. yeah The end of part one.

Memory TARDIS Easter Eggs

00:13:20
Speaker
on screen, don't they? Yeah, so we've got a... What bit of Sutech? Yeah, so we've set up that Sutech is back. And Susan is now part of Sutech. Yep, and the whole of Earth is gone in the universe yeah yeah wherever the doctor has been in the universe dies he has brought death with him yeah unknownly to him because zootec was wrapped around the tardis exactly so So at this moment the Doctor is feeling a lot of responsibility to try and save the universe. He feels that it's all his fault and then the TARDIS, what was their secondary? Yes! What was different about inside that TARDIS? So this was basically a hodgepodge of all the doing TARDISes. Of all these memories of doing Doctor's TARDISes inside.
00:14:15
Speaker
But, if you remember, obviously our player, if you remember this, there's a thing called Tales of the TARDIS. Right. And that set was used in that. I was thinking, how are they going to be used that again, but they just use it for that and that's it. Yeah. And I saw in the part two, I went, yes! in the cinema, didn't I? Yes, I finally used it in an episode. Well that's it, because when this came up on screen and they went inside this memory, memory TARDIS, this is going to be a moment for the long time fans. Yeah, and ones coming. Who are going to see all these props and there's little bits in there. Yeah, but they've turned TARDIS. Yeah. There's Matt Smith's TARDIS.
00:14:57
Speaker
and It's all about that.
00:15:02
Speaker
And there's a bit of, I think, Sesma Coy's jacket. Yeah. And the full starter's scarf. So I imagine there's a lot of Easter eggs in there. Yes. For diehards. Bands. to get a, you know, to pull together. So that was really nice. Yeah, it was. But with this memory TARDIS that allowed the doctor to think of a plan. Exactly. That gave him the opportunity to travel out of the normal universe. Yeah. To get back to fix the main universe. Now, I tell you what, this is a question I have. What's that? Because when we was watching that and he visited this lady
00:15:38
Speaker
on this planet oh yeah and he retrieved from her a metal spoon now I remember I remember a spoon quickly right yeah from Pio Pade's there where he said I've got a spoon you can find it when we're good right okay or what it was with a spoon I tell you it's all sold out to a spoon but what's your question my question is for me have you how did they get to this point like what was I didn't understand how they got there Yeah, because it just opened with him going into the tent. Like he had that cloak on like the mother of Ruby had. Yeah, the big hood up. And he just turned up there. and So I was slightly... I don't know how he got there. Did he use the... The memory tardis you saw when you were back to it was there. Yeah, but I mean like where... And which part of it did he get there? Yeah, so that confused me s slightly.
00:16:31
Speaker
But this spoon allowed him, because when he went back into... On the monitor, wasn't it? Yeah, when he went back into TARDIS, he plugged that into the monitor. Yeah. That was ripped out from the memory. TARDIS. Yeah, the memory window. Oh, yeah, of the TV. Yeah, so that was that was the link back into the memories, back into the real world. world Yeah, to try and fix it. And then every time we would say to my mother, she came up on the screen. Yes. The doctor saw his memories, and when she said that, her mother came up. Yeah, so it's still linked with ruby Ruby, obviously very central to this whole story. Oh, the whole evolution of the sewers as well. Yeah, yeah, that... The bit of the, what's the episode was it? 17 yards. Should have remembered that. The doctor went, how did you know that? Yes. That was shocking. So whilst these memories are coming up on the screen, we then look to the other corner of the TARDIS. Yep. Because something's not going quite right with their other passenger.

Doctor's Emotional Responsibility

00:17:30
Speaker
with Mel. Because she is starting to get messages. From Sue Tech. Yes. Turning her evil. I thought I'd never see the day of Mel going like that. And the doctor is asking her, is everything okay? is your You seem like there's something... Yeah. And then after that, she comes in and gets the doctor to face like, who was it? Susan did. Yes. And that was... And then way before that, We missed out, but the unit died. Yeah, yes, yes, yes. With the sand? Yeah, so everything was, yeah. Yeah, yes sorry, we did jump that way. Yeah, no did
00:18:09
Speaker
but yeah we are walking and talking right now. yes so Excuse any bits that we do. Mess up on. But, yeah, so yeah yeah so let's explain. every Everyone in the whole whole universe died, including you, Nick. Including Kate, which Stuart. And she has a great moment. Of dying. Where she's talking to the doctor and she's explaining that this is the end. And I might not see you again. ah Yeah, exactly. And... So once again that weighs heavy on the doctor you can see straight away that is over. He realizes that it is over now.
00:18:46
Speaker
And he's taking responsibility for this. He feels like this is his fault because... Yeah, he gets emotional really well. That's what I like about this, should we go with Doctor? He's got his emotions back. Yes. Like Peter Paddy? Never. Like Matt Smith did a bit. Dave Tann did. Yeah. George Whitaker? Never. But this one has. So now we have... Living in the universe, the only living, surviving people are the

Tense Future Journey and Sutek's Threat

00:19:11
Speaker
Doctor... The Doctor Mel... Well... and Ruby Sunday. And that's it? Yeah, just those three. so And then, as we said, Mel gets taken over. And it's the last two, The Doctor and Ruby Sunday. So, yeah, so they, um with this Mel Spoon, they get to see some memories that yeah guide them that they have to now go into into the future to 2046. To get Ruby's mum's name. Yeah, to get the DNA. Of Ruby.
00:19:44
Speaker
of, like, get the blood off Ruby. Yeah. But we saw build a bit of the central zone, it's never been seen before in the new Sonic. Mm. But it's blood tests. Yeah, yeah. Sounds different. So they travel to the future. They're now in 2046. Everywhere is still dust. Yeah, everyone's gone. Everyone is gone because they are the only living left. There. But they ah log on to the DNA database. But before they log on, Something happens. The doctor tells Mel to go outside and keep watch, but... He doesn't know it. But they touch, don't they? Yeah, touch hands. as As he instructs her to do that, they do touch. Yeah. Do you think she was still wearing that DNA thing? You know what she took? The DNA was Susan. Maybe. And that's how she didn't...
00:20:35
Speaker
but at that moment we're not made aware as the viewer we don't understand that the doctor doesn't know has clocked on that she's colder in the hand so he has already realized figured out that has happened so now he's he hey he knows we don't we don't as a viewer we don't yeah but he's starting to put together a plan a system plan of how to stop Souté. Exactly, but as a viewer we feel that we're in the position that he had gloves he said didn't he? Yes. So you know in the moment he went with his gloves when we first met.
00:21:14
Speaker
yeah gloves Yeah. And the whistle? And the whistle, yes. That's a hint. What does he do with the whistle? Yeah, so he's... We'll say that in a bit, fold out. Yeah, so he's already um got all these objects ready. To stop Zootek. To stop Zootek, but we don't know how... He's going to use them. But, Mel, she transforms... Into Zootek's sleep light helper. and then she teleports them all back back to the unit. Whoa, where they need to be. Sootak is. And where the doctor wants to be, I think. Yes. To stop him. Well, we don't know this so far. We didn't know. We did not know. As of the year we... We thought, oh, why is he going to get killed? Exactly. We're just going along for the ride. Yeah. And there is a show down here where the doctor
00:22:05
Speaker
like talks to. Yeah, he confronts Sutak and says I'll obey you. Yeah, he confronts but he and an e yeah it appears to us that he is not powerful enough and he drops to the ground. But he gets like green lights, stuff goes on, he's going to die. But then so Ruby steps forward with the screen saying I'll tell you my mum's name. Yeah. And then, when she gets close to us close, she'll show him, turn it, turn the screen, then she drops it. At this point, we're thinking, Ruby, what the hell are you doing?

Defeating Sutek and Restoring Life

00:22:42
Speaker
Well, you're not going to turn to him and just sit there and go, there's the name. You want us to keep it. And then after that, that's when we, I don't realise, you don't realise, we think I was just going to show him. Yeah. And then the big reveal was going to be over. He's going to be able to kill the mum. Yeah. And that's it.
00:23:01
Speaker
But this is where the plan of the doctor all comes out. Starts to come out because Ruby drops the screen and it shatters into many pieces. But because she has walked so close to Zootek. She can drop it. She's close enough to hook the rope onto his collar. and He didn't know he was a werewolf dog thing. Yeah, he took the form of Anubis, like an Egyptian god, yeah which is like he said a dog. like yeah but like And after that, he was close and attached and then the doctor got up, slowly. That's when the gods came in. yeah And he went...
00:23:41
Speaker
and pulled him into the TARDIS. Yeah, he takes control of the TARDIS with the whistle, doesn't he? That bit I thought was going to be K9. That's what they used to control K9 with a whistle. Right. A dog whistle. So that technology is still in part of the TARDIS? Yes. But it wasn't in K9, it was just putting the TARDIS along. But it's using that technology though, so it still has a link. to the old series. Yeah. But look look, let's leave it there for a second. Then let's get to a song. Let's get to a song so we can get our breath back because we are walking and talking. it Yeah, at the same time. And then we'll come back and tell you.
00:24:53
Speaker
We got a baby we can feast We can die in three days at least Baby blood and baby blood Baby butter for the baby scones Little baby feets, little baby toes Every one of us wants the nose Babies had such very bad luck Now into baby, we won't suck Eat the baby, add some salt Bailey's molly powdered malt No baby salt says she's a treat Her destiny is time to meet
00:25:38
Speaker
Baby so soft Carried aloft Big brown eyes Caramel eyes He's the goblin king Yes, the goblin king He's not a myth He's a natural thing Here's the king Here's the king Here's the king Here's the king goblin
00:26:04
Speaker
We love his chin when it's rambling He likes to dine on coincidence It fails to build him up and head
00:26:16
Speaker
500 puppies with golden fur. Often boys with jet-black hair. Circus clowns with a red balloon. He could eat me. He begs me to win. A backward for a king on high. Oh, little baby. Oh, little baby. Say good-bye.
00:26:45
Speaker
We are back. Yep. Here doing our live reaction. I've talked to Legend of Roo Saturday and Empire of Death, now on the Empire of Death episode. We have just watched this live in the Odeon in Chansford. On Friday the 21st of June. So yeah, so we are now up to the very end of the episode. Where it can be very skinnight, more energetic. exactly we are now seeing what the doctor's plan is we just had a motorbike go past so you heard that and also the doctor's plan came into action yeah so this is his plan all coming into action we we thought it was going to be nothing
00:27:27
Speaker
Well, we thought this was the end. We thought this was... Yeah, I thought Suite was going to win. Yeah, he's just destroyed everyone across the universe. Every universe, every planet. He's absolutely killed and massacred everyone. And Doctor did mention Oods in this episode. Yeah, yeah. I thought we'd never mention them again. So we've got Sootek, he has been collared, he has been pulled. And they have managed to take back control of the TARDIS. Yeah, and attach it underneath the console, the bit of where we called it. That wipe kind of thing. Exactly. And now he now powers up the TARDIS to now fly up into the vortex. Into the vortex. What a good bit. Now at this point,
00:28:12
Speaker
Zootek doesn't know what the hell's going on. No, he thinks he's still one. He was just king of the mountain and now he's being pulled down. Down into the vortex. But then the doctor goes, death, isn't it? Yeah. Like death means death, means life. And he saw like a bit of Zootek pulling the vortex, being life back. Yeah, hes his claws are extending. Being life back. And they're ripping through yeah the vortex. And like you said, bringing life. back to the planets and universes back again with the help of the TARDIS. But still at this point as I'm watching it, I'm still i'm still wondering how are they going to kill the Zootek because he's still attached. So the TARDIS, I thought he was going to get in the TARDIS again.
00:28:56
Speaker
Now look, at this point, I thought the doctor comes back to the TARDIS opening, where he can look at... He's hanging on top of the TARDIS inside. And I thought, at this moment, I thought, is the doctor going to, like, jump him? So he's going to kill him? Yeah, I thought, what is going to happen to this point? To actually... Get him into the Sootex. Yeah, because at this point, we still don't know what's gonna happen how he's going to defeat him, because... Oh, we don't know. Just because he's attached doesn't mean that he's dead. He's still, uh, Zootek is still a lot alive. Oh, he's white and living. Yeah. And we've got, so he's calling back going, I, um, back in the past, I did this to this. i Yeah. Does that mean I'm dead? Yeah. andlala Yeah. The doctor is now confronting Zootek. His own responsibility in all of this,
00:29:48
Speaker
And what what has he done? To me it's who said do this. Yeah so he's reflecting on his responsibility as the doctor. Yeah and i and after that we see the doctor come back to that the same musician and say to Ruby first I'm gonna be a monster now. I was getting all the universe back. He's now saying I've got a monster now we're gonna come a monster. Yeah, and then this is the point where I thought, how's the doctor a monster? Yeah, is he going to jump on Zetek and then kind of absorb him or do something? Into his body? Yeah, and like become the monster. That's where I was confused. But but that didn't happen. He didn't. The shut the doors and then why just cut? He had a different plan. Yeah. So he kept burnt and died. But now this is another question I want to ask you. Yeah.
00:30:37
Speaker
What do you think of the witches that will return sometime? Because they did die, but does that mean has the officially died? Yeah, look. Because I'm not really sure he died in the vortex. He could return. That's a good question, but I think he had such a good ending. They don't want to be in back. And they linked it to all the earlier Doctor Who's. Who's like the fourth Doctor. And because they made such a great... Great episodes. episode there i think it would be a shame if they brought him back sooner than they thought yeah i think if they're ever going to bring back they've got to do it in like 10 years yeah there's got to be a good period of time time but he's not there because it was such a good life yeah ending yeah you don't want to open up that again destroy it yeah and then
00:31:20
Speaker
There's still only left with the question, but so you have is typical urge but we still left with the question, who is this mother? Who is Ruby Maye at Ruby? Ruby is Sunday's mother, yeah. That's the question that we still have unanswered. and then we find out, right at the end, but who like stars yes we combat that What's quite funny is that now that everyone's back to life, unit's back, but they all are still covered in the dust of Sootek. That's what I thought. I thought bring them back, we'll get rid of the sand off them. I was waiting for them to go and see where it's going to turn the virus, brush it off.
00:31:59
Speaker
yeah so they know So we get to see that everyone is back alive and safe.

Ruby's Emotional Discovery

00:32:05
Speaker
But. Ruby. But Ruby still has the question of who's the mother. Of her. But we have now the DNA database. Of unit. Of unit. So now. They got it back from the other place to their unit database. Exactly. And then it came up on the unit thing, what the new sites, the files they saw. Yeah. So we can't swing going. Yes. They said we found it. It's complete.
00:32:31
Speaker
And they find out that where we've had this big big question, who's this mother? ah she alien you see Is an alien? Has she has powers? Does she have this secret knowledge? There's something special about her. But there wasn't. Well, well, yeah. so good that so No, no, no, you're right. There wasn't, but that was the message is that even though. She couldn't see who she was. Yeah. Even though she didn't have superpowers. The doctor had a great little bit here where he said, he said that we gave her the importance, we made her special by our memories of who she is, our attention of thinking about her. Yeah, I made Sootheck not know who. Sootheck came in tired sometimes after we said. Yeah, so we as humans
00:33:22
Speaker
as living beings. We are the ones who are giving the meaning. There is... In old movie's mother. Yeah. Susu Tech, but he doesn't know who it is. So that went into philosophy. That was quite... A long bit. A nice little... Ending. Little bit there. And then... But we do... It is revealed that she isn't... It's a normal human being. Yeah, she has no special powers, but she is a nurse. Yeah, we find that out. I think she's... I think it was around 35, something. Something like that. She had Ruby very young at 15. Yeah, and then the dad... was a bit nasty. Yeah. So she had to give up the baby to put on a movie ride. And then you remember the bit where she pointed? She wasn't pointing at the doctor. She wasn't pointing at the TARDIS or SU-TEC. She was pointing at
00:34:09
Speaker
The lamp. The lamp post, while the sign's saying Ruby Wrote. Yeah. And now we know why Ruby's got a name. Exactly, so the the name of Ruby was actually given by the lamp. Whoever herself. So that made Ruby feel good. Yeah, and then... The only other story we thought, oh she's found her mother, that's it. We've seen who she is, but we're not going to go and see her. Yeah, and this was another good little... The screen went blank on screen and then we go on the next scene and think, oh, it's just outside someplace. Yeah, I quite enjoyed this. he stand at The doctor's standing with Ruby, leaning up against the TARDIS and they're looking into a cafe. right And there's that woman.

There's the woman, Ruby's mum, unaware that behind her is Ruby, yeah her child that she hadn't seen for... What was it? Nose of years. I can't remember how many years but that. I think it was a decade or more. Twenty years, yeah. Twenty years, yeah. And then... And then the doctor gives this great little speech about how... I've got a time machine, why don't we... Is it cheating? Yeah, he's making the point of we should just leave her be. We shouldn't so interfere interfere with the time because yeah the way that we found out that that is your mother is through the time machine. machine It's going to change something. So it's not quite right to go and tell her that. And then she went in Ruby.

But Ruby's emotions take over. And she went into the coffee shop, what it was. Exactly. She goes into the coffee shop. And orders the coffee. She sets out quite well. She orders the coffee. Obviously they're going to call out her name name. And she sat down first looking at her mum. Yeah, and then when? And then the mum didn't see her until... The barista goes, oh, we've got a... Ruby? Ruby coughing. And then the mum looked tricing and sun and stopped flirting. And then then the person said, Ruby. Yeah, Ruby just blurts it all out. And I I'm Ruby Road. I'm Ruby, I was left out of church. Yes, and all that. And then the mum went...
00:36:02
Speaker
A bit emotional. Yeah, yes. And hugged. I thought, when they hugged, I thought, someone's going to happen here. Someone's going to change. Yeah, so that was a beautiful little moment. And that's how that bit ended. Yes. We finally found out. And then they went back to Ruby's home. Home with the dot foster mum. Yeah, and they're all sitting there. Ruby's adopted family. Yeah. Ruby's DNA. Little mum. Biological mother. And then we look when she comes out of that room to get photos, yeah we see the TARDIS individual. Exactly. So she enters the TARDIS. and says I've got to go them, got a bed for my mum. Yeah they have no mom and they this emotional connection here but what is interesting is how cold
00:36:46
Speaker
the doctor is in this moment because he he obviously cares about Ruby. ah But there is this kind of like distance. Being in between. Yeah, but and even the Ruby even says to her yeah to him, oh, you said that you're going to see me because they say their goodbyes. And then they... Ruby says, but you never went back and saw your granddaughter. And you're not going to come back and see me that much. So you're not going to come back. Yeah. so you've lied to Ruby and the granddaughter. Yeah, so that puts a question, but then he reassures ah that... He's coming back. And the reason he's coming back is because Ruby has changed him. And then she gets a text from someone finding her dad? Yeah, yeah. And that kind of twist that kind of seals the deal though. of her She's not coming back in the TARDIS. She can't spend her time with the doctor anymore. She has to find her dad. Yeah, she has to find herself, her dad. Yeah, and then after that...
00:37:38

Baba gets sad and unfortunately as Tars disappears, she says to Dr. Faintly, I love you. And that's when Dr. Cai's and... Yeah, but the doctor's not even looking at her. Oh, when she says that. It's too painful, I suppose. Yeah, for him. But, so that's how that ends. Yeah, and then the credits roll. No, not actually. Not as good before that. Oh, please. We see a bit in the window of this flood talking over, going, we're now finished the story of Ruby Sunday. Yeah, the camera pulls out of the window, goes up to the roof and like... And what's interesting is how she's dressed. Yeah, she was wearing a fluffy coat. Yeah, a fur hooded coat. And she goes, now the Ruby's story is done.
00:38:25
Speaker
Now you're wondering how the Doctor is. Yes. Well, this story ends tragically. Yes. And I'm thinking, I've only got one, shall I say my kind of... Please, please. But the thing I think it is, the Master. Because she does it all the way down the lens. Yeah, yeah. Like how all of them are, like the Toymaker, the Maestro and all those other baddies did. Yeah, because earlier, because we must link this in. Yes. Because earlier, when she, before she dies, because she dies as well. Yeah, in the episode. With Sutek power, but before she dies. She stays into the window, doesn't she? Yeah, but and she goes to the bed, and as she sits on the bed. Right, someone says, there's a bit before that, before she dies as well, she goes.
00:39:08
Speaker
I would like a cup of tea, someone sits in bed. Ruby's family member. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then she looks and goes, there's a storm coming. Anyway, that bit. but worry about that I'm trying to tie into what you've just said about. oh yeah When she's on the bed before she dies, she says, she says oh, but I had such plans. And what was the plan? Exactly what she's... what was and amazing These plans are going to come to fruition. because Yeah, she's going to be back in the next series, I bet, yeah. Yes, she's alive, she's well and she's... And she comes at the end of the episode saying what she said. That very threatening message. Down the camera lens and boom. And that's when the credits come up. And so that was the end of that.
00:39:50

So Luke, after this, you've had detailed explanations, detailed breakdowns. Yes. Week after week, how do you feel at the end, looking at the whole series from beginning to end, what is your thoughts?

Becoming Part of the Doctor Who Fandom

Well, from first episode, like Space Brave East was all right. Yeah. And then Devil's Call was good because we saw another side of the Doctor yeah saying he can't do it again because he came out like Matt Smith by generation. And then The next episode after that was all right, but boom was okay. Then all the episodes were all right. Yeah. And the two last episodes, ladies and gentlemen, we finally know what's going to happen not in that, why there was but Susan, why she was there, why she keep popping up. Yeah. And the whole series was good, but the last two episodes were somewhat better. And yeah obviously there was a lot of excitement when Russell T. Davis said that he was coming back. Yes, that was really good. I'm glad he came back.
00:40:47
Speaker
But there was also a question mark because of the link to Disney. Yes. And whether that would ruin it, spoil it, whether they would... But I think it works. Well, look, if that... If it's like this kind of high quality... Yeah, the production was incredible. Absolutely. If like, that unit tower, what am I going to be talking about with Avengers? Mmm, yeah. Starts building up, but unit tower. Yeah, so like, for myself, I've really enjoyed... Are you now... Let me ask you this. Yeah. Are you now, this is the question, a hoovian, a hard, dark hoovian like me just getting into it, or are you just alright? I can watch it when I can.
00:41:25
Speaker
Well, I tell you what I am going to do. I am definitely going to make sure come Christmas time. What's the Christmas special? I'm going to tune in for the Christmas special. This could be the start of my journey into the Doctor Who universe. And you might have your own reviews. Yeah, we could have our shared... A battle. Yeah, shared reviews. But I must say I really did enjoy that. Yeah. I didn't know what to expect. Obviously, I had some... But I didn't, the thing what really took me by surprise is how good the production was. Yeah, I thought like since Disney took over, I thought it's not gonna be that good. Yeah, it's gonna be up high budget, but it's gonna be like Disney side. Yeah, but kind of sets, but no. But no, it was really, really good. I really did enjoy it. I tried to add another level to Unit's Tower. Yeah, yeah, I thought, honestly, I thought it was very good. The Doctor was great, Groovy was great. I can't, there's nothing that I could fault and say,
00:42:18
Speaker
Some people said on YouTube, having loads more people in Unit, it's made them think there's a spin-off coming of Unit. Do you think there is? They did have some chemistry and there was a bit of comedy in there. What was that actually saying about Unit? Was there anything behind? Because the kid who was... In that chair. Yeah, and he do to the scoo he ate a slice of pizza at the end. Was there anything about that? Because he was the only one eating pizza.
00:42:50
Speaker
I don't know. Did that mean anything? Okay, that was just, I just thought... I'll be inside the bag enjoying life again. Okay, can I just for, why is he the only one eating pizza? Yeah. Why isn't everyone... You saw like those of food then, didn't you, on the set? Yeah, I was like, why is he the only one chowing down? We just saw a clip of him in between everyone else talking. He was just eating a slice of pizza. Pizza. But overall, the two split, the last episodes of the series, I give a legendary Sunday A 9 out of 10. And the last to finish off to know who's really Sunday's mum is now a 10 out of 10. To finish all the story arc off. To finish all the story arc off. It's more better than they always say it, Clowars kind of story arc. It beats that.
00:43:31
Speaker
Yeah, because because you had already told me ages ago that Ruby, she is not going to be a companion. In the next series. In the next series. It's really starting out like that. I wondered whether that was going to be deaf. I didn't know what was going to happen to her. I thought Sue Tech was going to attack her and kill her. Yeah, especially when she walked up with the screen, I thought, oh, is this... Would that be the end of her? Would that be the end? But look, hey, we have had a great time in chance for you to watch in the legend of U-Sunday and we have My Old Death. At Odin Cinema. Yes. And I hope you've enjoyed this though. I'm out with you. yeah
