Speaker: Hi! welcome back to fixated a podcast with us joelle and ellen i'm joelle and i'm ellen this is the podcast where we talk about all the media and culture and things we just can't look away from. The things we just can't seem to get over. And why it all matters so much to us.

Speaker: This episode, we talk about... a lot of different movies award season movies are starting to hit theaters and so we are heading to the theaters we talk about the social reckoning we talk about digger we talk about you can see everything a little bit about fjord we're we're hitting as many as we possibly can exactly it's time we're locking in now it's movie time let's get into it i guess enjoy

Speaker: welcome back joelle and everyone thank you thank you very much thank you for being here very happy to be here as always yes yes back another episode of fixated Once again.

Speaker: I feel like I keep on switching up the location. Yeah, you've been all over the place lately. We need some consistency. You won't get it. I refuse.

Speaker: and That's tough on you. The only thing that's consistent is our inconsistency and that's perfect. that Exactly. Exactly. Hey, have we missed an episode since? since starting. i don't think so no i literally said that like literally Look out. Knock on wood. We're consistent enough. We're consistent where it counts. We're trying our hardest at least. That's what matters. That was on our, for a little peek behind the curtain. That was on our. um

Speaker: starting deck or mood board. It's like, you don't have to be extreme, just consistent or whatever the fuck. So look at us. that took a Yeah. part We're really sticking to it.

Speaker: we are Exactly. Exactly. Yeah. How it's mid October. How's the month going? is It's going good. It's going. so too It's flying by. I've had the world's busiest October actually, but.

Speaker: you know it's fun how about you also busy also flying by i would imagine yes indeed and it's not for the better in terms of things i'm trying to achieve um But yes, yes, yes. It's definitely been. a month.

Speaker: this stuff Or half a month. It has, yeah. It's like that 30 Rock thing where she's... Never mind, I can't get it right. never mind no you know what i'm talking there's like a whole thing where oh yes yes yes yes yes like lemon it's tuesday yeah exactly i'm trying to remember what her actual line is i don't remember but that's the punchline for sure She's like, what a week it's been or something. Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Exactly. No, that's kind of how I feel. That's the vibe for sure. I'm like, this entire month's been crazy.

Speaker: there's so Lemon, it's booze day. damn damn But yeah, I mean... That's life. yeah That's life. That is life. And that's October. for yeah I do love October though. It comes second in my mind to September.

Speaker: Hmm. Are you a follower? Am I learning? Yes. Well, yes. I quite like fall. Interesting. I like fall and I like... i do like fall and winter i'm not gonna lie i do like to be able to put on a sweater layer. I think clothes are better.

Speaker: clothing situation. is better but that also makes sense i feel because you're from the south i'm a spring and summer girl and i'm from the north so there you go it is yeah yeah yeah because i can't handle the yeah the heat i mean i can but that's the problem exactly i and in new york winter there are

Speaker: few things to me that are worse. than that than a really terrible new york winter yeah that just lasts that's true i feel like having spent time in the north and across the sea in the north and all this stuff these fucking winters and these daylight hours don We need help.

Speaker: yeah It's so unacceptable. It's so bad. I've been talking lately. If someone could like invent a city that is New York, but warmer and also like on the ocean would be great.

Speaker: So if someone could get on that, I'd like really appreciate it. and Someone could kind of shift some tectonic plates, move some man masses. All my friends are there. That's part of it too. Oh, right. Sorry, I forgot to mention that part. That's an important part. I think you're looking for a deserted island turned commune. No, I'm looking for them to move New York down. Exactly true. And move it down. um Exactly. Just a little bit more stuff. yeah And then you're chilling. Exactly. That would be great. yeah anyway yeah keep keep that in mind keep that in the background yeah just you know yeah

Speaker: yes our parallel size um anyway joelle how about you go first this time oh i will first am i you want to hear your non -media fixations of okay okay oh brother I'm trying to think I told you to be prepared for something boring and I feel like that's all I have. And then I thought of a second thing that is just as boring. Okay. Love.

Speaker: So, you know... Maybe just as like a peek into things that I'm still dealing with over the course of this, over the course of the life of this podcast.

Speaker: We haven't gotten past one crucial thing, which is me being employed. and But we're getting there soon. I can feel it. We're getting there soon. And that's, I guess, part of my fixation is like... It's exciting. trying to make some definitive steps. I mean, as if I haven't been sending out application after application. for the past year. But um finally, probably submitting myself to... Good old godforsaken networking.

Speaker: I had. Yeah.

Speaker: Two separate but parallel conversations with some adults with jobs and careers. This week, where I guess like the main the main idea was they were like, yeah, it's just not like you just have to network for real, like truly. truly truly like that is like that's what you that is the answer ah unfortunately yeah one of them was like he was like yeah no like the applications sending implied applications probably not worth your time anymore, especially if you've been doing it for so long. So just're so crazy just start talking to people. And I was like,

Speaker: Yeah. Okay. I was like, yeah, for sure. Which again, I, or what what I was about to say was I was already kind of like on that lane. You know, I've seen the opinion. I've seen the like stuff I've tried. I've dipped my hand in. um I don't know if this is like something that seems legit given that this is a podcast. You're sitting here listening to us talk, but I am.

Speaker: Generally introverted. And it's a very big lift right that's funny that we're doing this yeah right like I can't like it was a whole thing it was a whole thing to like feel feel out of one shell in in like college and figure that part out so like We're still working with what we got. And it feels like a whole just like effort to like really put feet to the pavement with the networking thing. but

Speaker: I already knew that that's what I needed to embrace. These conversations just like, like really impressed it upon me. And I was like, okay, well, here we go. I will do it. I will do it. I promise. So I have my list and um people will be hearing from me, I guess. That's exciting.

Speaker: i can see you working for you i can manifest yeah thank you i appreciate it i do think i do think Also, with like the nature of the podcast though i'm like okay i do know i can like i can like step into the role yeah i will play i you can turn it on i can do it i can turn it on on and it'll be great and i have a lot of people it feels really willing to help me it's just a character to play exactly exactly i saw something the other day that was talking about like

Speaker: treating a job interview like like a like you're on a late night talk show or something like it's an opportunity to talk about yourself and to be bubbly and to be fun i'm like that yeah it's fun which i do like And as much as I've gotten... some interviews like I do think I've been a little bit nervous and I think that's like the like somewhat insidious part of just the whole like job search struggle is you kind of put a lot of like pressure and nerves then once you get like a little lead and like something like that so I feel like I've

Speaker: I've been battling that because yeah yeah. Otherwise in like an interview situation, I'm like, luckily I do feel and enjoy like I have the capacity to be like eloquent and have like fun and conversation and stuff. And so it's just about like, that's why I also think.

Speaker: fair enough with the networking like it's just about like practicing and getting through yeah once you start doing it it's probably gonna be better and like chiller and all the type of stuff so That is my main fixation is to start networking a little bit more. just cold, warm, etc, etc.

Speaker: ah Like I just, you know, just kind of. best of luck thanks because that is hard it's not it's not fun to network yeah i think it'll be very brave yeah i'm gonna say who this song got out it

Speaker: But you know, it's just kind of part of the course, I guess, in this day and age. There's a little dose of like, I have no idea if anyone else listening is on a job search. yeah um If you are, then I honestly even regret bringing it up. It's not something that you want to talk about, but this is what I mean.

Speaker: if If anyone listening um is hiring also. And that's the other thing, right? you you well Yeah. Hopefully you appreciate how I keep it real as fuck. No, it's okay. Talking to people is actually kind of fun. but you know, it's also, yes yeah, it can be fun, but it can be.

Speaker: There's just so much pressure on it that it's... yeah it stresses me out at least yeah that's my non -media fixation ellen That's fun. Mine is... My non -media fixation this week. um it's it's more fun but it's no less stressful if i can

Speaker: lie a little um it's October obviously and I'm trying really hard to find a halloween costume yes yes well of course it's hard it's really hard what do you got cooking if you want to reveal i don't know that's the thing i don't know if i want to reveal i'm trying to our dear friend bridget hybrid hey birdr is going to be visiting new york for halloween um so we're trying to find

Speaker: a couple's costume that two platonic friends can wear, which, you know, you and I have done. I love to make a friend do a couple's costume to and it's the best. you wrote like Exactly. We love to confuse the masses and make sure that no one comes up. to talk to us.

Speaker: It's really our goal. anyway um and we've been struggling it's hard we actually okay we have one idea but it's something i've done before and i just was like i can make this into a couple's costume if you get this one thing again being as vague as humanly possible so we've got that one cooking but i mean halloween is two days when you're young and you're beautiful so sometimes more but i exactly late two days

Speaker: At minimum, it's two days. um So we've got to find something. Else to wear. So I think this episode will be coming out pre -Halloween. If anyone has any ideas, please reach out to me for a...

Speaker: kind of blonde kind of brunette and also a redhead situation that doesn't have to play into it but could yeah Anyway, because I'm... I'm feeling tapped out.

Speaker: Yeah. I think I've done all my ideas. i you You know me. you know me listeners may not yeah not know my whole complex with halloween costumes which is to say i nearly can't be bothered. I find it just the most like, I don't know, maybe like the whimsy has left me. I feel like I have whimsy in other departments. and

Speaker: it's just the whole halloween costume of it all i'm just like i can barely stand to but worry about it and so the past couple of years i've at least tried to stick to my tried and true sexy kendall roy i had my yeah like just ironed on some things to make an l to the og little baseball tee and then that's such a good costume it's so incredible you know big boots that type of thing um and yeah i feel like i've just like that therefore gravitate a little bit more towards being like

Speaker: basically cosplay just be like what type of like Exactly. character situation thing. That's like, we've had a good, we had a good Sharon Dion in college. We had a good Brittany and Santana a couple of years ago. I really enjoyed that one. We had some good costumes. The cheerleaders. You looked good in the cheerios. We looked really good that year. That was a good costume. That was good. Yeah, that was really fun. We should.

Speaker: run that sometime i don't know like i have no qualms whatsoever with like repeating it if the costume is good i'm gonna wear it again yeah again yeah yeah i did um sydney from the bear Right, that was a good one.

Speaker: Yeah. For the second one. went That that it was like a classic. You looked good in that. That was good. Really enjoyed it. Really enjoyed it. Yeah. Cause my hair was like braided or whatever. Yeah. That was the year that. The bear was like really huge too. And so when we were walking down the street, we ran into a bunch of carmes. I think you were the only Sydney we saw. It was perfect. It was great. Period.

Speaker: It was that was really fun so that's my that's my approach to halloween costumes but i feel like you'll figure something else i hope so it is fun it's fun to be like half a couple's costume if you're single sometimes because then sometimes you run into that second half and you're like oh my god because if you and i were in the same city sorry you would have no choice we would be doing shane and ilya like we would be doing that i have decided already right

Speaker: I mean, that's the funny thing So I'll just like. own up to it you know i'm not a perfect person i get self -conscious sometimes i would um i would i would have to like overcome something in my mind to do it on halloween specifically but i would like the jersey and i would wear the jersey like that's the thing like any other time i would Because i I don't mind being cheesy in that way. But. um

Speaker: maybe but i would have done it i don't know so like i don't want to do it without you but maybe i do need to just be brave i do think you could though like i really don't think it's much of a I think you could. I could find an Ilya out there. like because I mean, I guess the chances of finding another single Ilya are not that...

Speaker: Hi. but right they're not zero but that is the type of thing that makes for a at least moderately good rom -com plot short film wait you're so right you're so right you're so right because you're right the odds are low but they're not zero never zero and i do lead my life trying to like manufacture to like engage with some sort of rom -com script yeah always trying to like kickstarter meet cute

Speaker: Most of my life is... centered around doing that. Yeah. you know, one of these days it's gotta to work, right? Like it has to work. I think so. Anyway.

Speaker: I'm building something in my head now actually. No, that's good. that's good yeah report back everyone visit my instagram on halloween the fixated instagram that's a good yeah we should put it on fixated So again, I will have nothing for. Bye guys.

Speaker: platforms. Yeah. should I'm always plugging that. I love it. Well, you gotta. Exactly. Somebody's gotta. Somebody's gotta. Fixated .pod on all platforms. We were so lucky to get Fixated .pod on all platforms. Classic on all platforms because it would be ridiculous if we were like Fixated .pod on all platforms except for TikTok where it's just Fixated .pod. That would be crazy. Could you imagine? No, dot. oh my god embarrassing literally humiliating who do you think we are

Speaker: We had those those handles locked. down like early early way before we launched anything else i feel like we need consistent platforms across yeah And that's the forward thinking. Exactly. that That's the social media. um manager in me coming out in only obviously it was not just me we know that um yeah how do you want to do it you want to go first joelle you want to you know what fix date it on

Speaker: I will go first and that's because I... I feel like there's like only one thing that I like, oh let me not have a sour attitude about it. I feel like I'll just go based off of some things that I watched recently, engaged with recently. um I'll name some things off the top of my head. In terms of music even, I don't want to get too into it or I don't feel like. getting too into it if i'm allowed that um but listening to some fun new music remy wolf's album i really like

Speaker: Oh, that's exciting. i I don't know if I knew that was out Yes, Remy Wolfe's album is very good. um I feel like i heard so I heard some of the singles, um including I Won't Cry and Twiggy just kind of like across my FYP. Okay, I do know those. Yeah, and I was like, I'm intrigued. And we were talking about Remy Wolfe a little bit recently because you said you like the song Soup.

Speaker: I do! And I was like, yes, I know that song, like, decently well, you know? I was like, that is a kind of fun song. only remy wolf when i'm like really like familiar with i've definitely heard that you just mentioned i didn't realize they were new but i'm not good with music we know this yeah it's not my strong suit i feel like i haven't really yeah engaged with remy wolf very much

Speaker: um otherwise in past other than in passing um and so yeah i was like yeah these two songs seem cool I feel like in general, as we've mentioned before on this pod, like the the the girls especially. especially just keep on churning out. cool good albums like you know this year slash the last like two or three years low -key like i don't know pop The pop girls girlss are doing the damn thing. And it's so fun. And so.

Speaker: I feel like I've just been so much more like into open to just being like, yeah, let's see what, let's see what other fantastic thing this young woman has put forward, you know, like just another one. Why not add to the list? And so I've really been enjoying that. I think I won't cry is a great song. um I think Twiggy is really great too. Nice. Like I love.

Speaker: rageful. like again women i love a rage song that you know what i mean like that just really that really works for me um and so and then yeah i won't cry is like kind of completely devastating which is weird Also, that's...

Speaker: wonders for me, naturally. And then I've been... Also listening to Tinashe.

Speaker: who a different also pop but that's the beautiful thing about pop right it's just like such a spectrum yeah um so very different vibes and she definitely went goes a little bit more into some like more r and &b flavors some like dance um stuff across her album pop star and yeah it's just like sick it's just really good once also like i just something she's definitely an artist that i've known about for a while but have never fully leaned in so it's just kind of a similar thing where i was like

Speaker: I bet it's good. People say it's good and I believe them and I've been listening to it and it's a good switch up from. Again, I think I listened to like a decently full range of music. But.

Speaker: We also like... We know I do like like indie singer -songwriter, indie pop, and do you know, whatever sad -ish stuff. um That is home. And so whenever I get to, like, just step a little bit further into, like...

Speaker: things that are a little bit more upbeat a little bit more i don't know just has a different perspective allows you to embrace a different perspective I really enjoy that and I really like.

Speaker: Which song's on there? I really like Melatonin. I really like Cloud 9. I think those are the ones that are like really kind of like circulating. But I really also like the song Pillow Fight. It's like saucy.

Speaker: okay funny sounds so lame so for me to say but it but you know it just like has that little outage it's like a little like 30 it's a little like no i like that like fun and stuff like that whatever check it out and so that's like music i feel like this month between like the yeah this month i feel like i've seen a lot of movies

Speaker: I keep on kind of forgetting which ones I've seen. you Like same. oh I think we said this last episode too, like a backlog. So yeah, between like the end of. September and and now I have a backlog of like letterbox things to put in and so I just keep on forgetting which ones I've actually seen but In terms of like all these new releases, I'm annoyed how I haven't been able to see many of them, but I did do my duty.

Speaker: to go see the social reckoning. And before I saw the social reckoning, I made sure to watch the social network. That's so smart. Yeah. um That's why I haven't been able to watch The Social Reckoning because I haven't had time to watch both of them. And I felt like I needed to do my homework. See, and that's the thing. like I know and love The Social Network. I've known it for a really long time. um It came out in 2010. And I was just writing something about the social reckoning. I know, right? It's not crazy. i was just

Speaker: writing about the social reckoning that again by the time that this episode comes out it will be out already on my sub stack um because i plan to post it tomorrow but exciting yeah right um such a long time as a a separate aside i'm glad you're back on the sub stack yeah yeah i mean there was no actual intention for me to neglect it it's just like These things happen.

Speaker: more time in a day you know what i mean but human yeah exactly exactly and like i think people say whatever i think i have a healthy enough relationship with it where i'm like if the time isn't there the time just simply isn't there that's good and i will come back to it and i will have you know like it'll all the process will happen again you know around this time last year like around my birthday last year i was like oh i wrote this like The first like essay on my like rebooted sub stack, Technically Live, by the way, was about turning 25 and all the things I wanted to do, whatever. I have to revisit that. I like that one. Yeah. And ah do my own reckoning with that. See how I feel about what I wrote. But one thing that I did say was like you know like I want to like write. I want to be ah not a writer who doesn't write, but a writer who actually writes. Love. I was adding it up. for resume purposes, but I was adding up like how many like pieces I had actually published, but I can't remember the exact number, but it's like around like 15, maybe like pieces. And I was like, that's pretty good. i was like okay it made me yeah again just a little bit of perspective zooming out i was like That's really nice actually, yay. Yeah, congrats, that's awesome. So yes, another one incoming and it's about the social reckoning. And I was able to write about the social network a little bit because I was like, yeah, I watched it before and just kind of pointing out that it's a good movie. I really enjoyed it. um And it came out in 2010, which is crazy to think about. I feel like honestly, I didn't, I saw it like not long after that, like 10 years old would be kind of crazy yeah age to see it. But again, it's just a mix of being like.

Speaker: I had an older sister, like she was definitely watching it at some point in time. So I definitely feel like within like three or four years of that, by the time you're like 13, 14, I probably saw it or understood it or saw, you know, enough of it. Yeah, kind of like understand that I was like, oh, this is kind of like a cool movie. Like, I don't know how much I processed it, but it like.

Speaker: It was cool. um I didn't see it until post -college with you. Like... Yeah. you know duality of man I feel like it's one of those that's like been.

Speaker: I mean, again, especially I think for like our age group and our yeah like generation, you know, it kind of is, I don't know. I hate to use the word formative because I don't think it's like formative, but like, I think. There's something there. I don't know. It's one that people are always...

Speaker: kind of mentioning at least of like a good movie that everyone likes so it was one of those ones i put off forever of being like yeah i know it's a great movie whatever i'm like no it's actually really good yeah there's a reason everybody's talking about it um because it's aaron sorkin writer david fincher director and hey Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross on that soundtrack.

Speaker: of Yeah, of course. yeah it's just so it's just it's just good it's just like It's well put together. It's the like moodiness of it or the mood of it in general, like the setting. It's like it's very like college dorm room Harvard. And I feel like there's something that's like particularly like. cold and dark.

Speaker: and very like sleek and fresh about it as well i think very much trying to like embracing this like world of like oh my gosh you know like new technology new modes of communication, that type of thing. And I feel like it's just so well balanced in that. And then of course the performances. Also, one of the draws is just like Andrew Garfield. Like, I think that was the person who I truly like, again, at whatever age that I saw it, like around 13, 14, probably for the first time, because I had a general and like knowledge of Andrew Garfield for like Spider -Man purposes that.

Speaker: I was like, oh shit, that's that guy. He's so handsome. And Brenda Song is in there, which I always love pointing out because I'm like, Brenda freaking Song. Come on, come on. And she's great in it. Dakota Johnson's in there as well for like a little blip. I don't know. I think there's like a real question about like the factual nature of like like that origin story for Facebook. They took their creative liberties, et cetera, et cetera. But it's definitely a story that like stuck. Yeah, and like a characterization of Mark Zuckerberg that stuck. Jesse Eisenberg's so good in it. I think it just really works on the very simple level, honestly, of the like of the fact that it is about...

Speaker: their friendship. And so it's just like, I don't know, you're just like bought in. It's just like emotional and it's interesting and the tension is appropriate. And it's just, I find i think it's a really great movie. You're right. Yeah, it's... it's part of the reason it's so good is because there's like heart at the center of it and it's about them as human beings it's not just a story about like something that could be quite boring yeah i didn't do it right

Speaker: yeah it's like about like friendship betrayal yeah and you're like damn that's heartbreaking heartbreak yeah and the mark zuckerberg as characterized being a little asshole but also a little bit like there's still a little bit of like human there's kind of and

Speaker: anti -charisma about him as how jesse eisenberg plays him yeah and it's just it's it's good i think it won aaron sorkin the like oscar for the screenplay i think or at least a nomination i believe i should know this for sure because i was just reading this and like and so yes and so i watched it to prepare for the social reckoning and That, that movie is interesting. I mean...

Speaker: Yeah. Look, there's supposed to be companion pieces. And I feel like there's like something. really legitimate. there about being like it's not supposed to be a sequel it is a different movie towards a different function. And I think dare I say even like a very acceptable shift in what it's trying to do. the thing with the social reckoning is that is quite boring and it's a it's strange put together.

Speaker: movie and my general headline because i kind of studied in a certain way in ah a close enough way a bit tangential but a close enough way i studied the contents of that movie what it like what it is dramatizing the story that is dramatizing which is the like Leak of internal documents, Facebook documents.

Speaker: by Francis Haugen and the subsequent writing of the Facebook files by this journalist, Jeff Horowitz. That was really a kind of like... if ever before seen basically like never before seen like actual like look into how facebook had conducted their internal research about basically the effects of their platform on like anything from kind of like the spread of covid misinformation information misinformation the effects of like Instagram on teenage mental health, teen girls' mental health, um kind of like election interference, like all these things, like plenty of things. Yes, it's looking to there, but it also is supposed to be paired up against how in their... public communications, they

Speaker: were misrepresenting kind of like what they knew. So that's also a shade of it is that they were lying to the public, basically. um

Speaker: Awesome. Great. I'm sorry that I'm getting so like teachery, but like led to a lot more of like congressional kind of like questions, subpoenas. and stuff. um And the move towards the Kids Online Safety Act is very much tied to that, which is what I actually kind of studied. i like so i drink like no know so this is i'm learning tells you to be a little bit boring note that i am almost very much embodying the tone of the movie which is we tell you information but yeah i mean like it's definitely it's like not actually an entertaining movie

Speaker: ah dare Dare I say. It's not quite an entertaining movie. It tells you information. Surely. It tells you information. It is just so like didactic.

Speaker: And like... expository it just like they have it in the like Dynamics of the characters were like Francis Hogan character played by Mikey Madison and all the performances were like.

Speaker: Fine. like you know i mean like it's all It's all completely permissible. I really don't have much to say except for about Jeremy Strong's Mark Zuckerberg, but I will get to that in a second. I'll try to keep this concise and not like talk, talk, talk about this. But they have it as like a thing in the movie that Francis Hogan has to explain to Jeff Horwitz.

Speaker: like all the like technical details basically so you kind of are getting all of this like like so there's that and you're like okay i guess that kind of has like a reason to it but Then on top of that,

Speaker: The like. Mark Zuckerberg stuff. all the dialogue there at risk of being too generalizing, but the dialogue there is just all of the, it's just like presenting information. Like it's like.

Speaker: It's again, it's almost like bullet points yeah disguised as dialogue. And I found that a really interesting way to go about it. I think that is interesting to me.

Speaker: as i was like reading more about it i didn't harp on this much isn't like the thing i was writing but i will harp on it now because i kind of like have the idea where i'm like okay it wasn't that like good as of a movie again a bit

Speaker: dull and didactic and also convoluted like they do a two -story line jumping around thing that They also do in the social network. But it works. This doesn't. so a bit strange and it gets a little confusing and then there's extra flashbacks that they put in like black and white and you're just kind of like Anyways, but it I do think I would give it its flowers for like genuinely working as something that like people could watch once.

Speaker: and very well understand like what happened and understand a little bit more about Facebook if they don't already know it. But then I find... it interesting because I was reading at least like one interview with Aaron Sorkin where it seemed to be like he thought he's thinking in the like opposite direction like in the inverse of that he was like i really set out at the end of the day to like make a movie that's like people are going to want to sit down and watch and eat with popcorn and enjoy it.

Speaker: what and like i don't have an agenda blah blah blah blah and i was like his goal was a movie that's entertaining like that's what he thought he was creating huh And that's why it stopped me a little bit. Where I was like...

Speaker: well why don't i was like well no why don't you just lean into the thing that was did a bad job then exactly i was like i hate to be like a hit because i was kind of giving him flowers for you know for whatever it's worth for lack of a better term of being like okay it's a very like especially coming from like where i am where i'm like you know i don't know like as a researcher i suppose i'm like hey That's like...

Speaker: like pretty much spells out some of these major like debates and issues and tensions and if it sounds super blunt coming out of the mouth of like Jeremy Strong, Mark Zuckerberg. Fuck -ass haircut. Sure. It will be. great use for a high school history teacher and i don't and i mean that genuinely like it would like it's a But...

Speaker: If you wanted to make something that was like... entertain like i was like what he's like yeah i'm a romantic and idealist um and i like writing that i was like i can see that with like what is really the like main storyline that is kind of this supposed to be this investigative um journalism type of Plot.

Speaker: which I say very genre -ese, where they're supposed to be putting things together and being like, oh, and then this, and oh my goodness. Yeah. Okay. I love it falls ends up falling flat, but I kind of get where he's saying where like he he's he's writing that to like be about people being like brave and upstanding in their values like movie wise. It's still some of it then is just like a little cheesy. Like there's a little tonally cheesy. Like I think the like best example of this is like. Francis Hogan's supposed to be very introverted and very like,

Speaker: very kind of stereotypical data sciencey kind of like nerdy type of thing and she's like I believe in Facebook I believe in Facebook I'm only doing this to make it better. stuff. Jeff Horowitz is supposed to be this upstanding tech journalist or journalist guy. He's not even supposed to be technically proficient. Who's like, I care about abuses of power, stuff like that. They have an interesting.

Speaker: dynamic chemistry that I think mostly worked and they didn't make it romantic until like one moment at the end where I was like why is Why is Jeremy Allen White looking at her like that? I was like, like I felt a little something, but...

Speaker: why like you know just yeah going through the entire course of the movie you're like But then why this? at Anyways. Fascinating. hu January 6th plays a big role in this as well.

Speaker: um very interesting also kind of cheesy thing he does with that tying the beginning to the end no spoilers uh -huh That genuinely made me laugh a little bit. because like I was like, okay, sir. But that's like part of it. And so you have these like scenes of like intensive violence. You have all these things and all this. this is And at the very end, they kind of are like, you're like, wait.

Speaker: Do they like each other for real? or like The movie is so weird. Whenever I actually think about the details of it, it's really a strange thing that he did with some of the like seemingly things put there to make it a movie and something entertaining versus the things just that are information. I guess the...

Speaker: Journalist guys like watching sports and this like the person on the sports. um in the sports on the TV, like. fist pumps in the air because he like won or something it was like a buzzer beat or something like that so he's like yes and she's like To do my best act out. She's like...

Speaker: she's like why is the guy on the screen fist like pumping his fist in the air and he's like Oh, because he's happy. this is a stripped down version of the dialogue but it's basically the dialogue and she said Wow.

Speaker: I don't know if i'll I've ever been happy like that. I don't know if I ever will be And then. by the end when she successfully does of course exactly the like congressional appearance and she like kills her oh my god The last look between them, she's kind of like looking back at him in the crowd. I'm being a such a hater, but like. It's fine. It's important. some Yeah.

Speaker: looking back in the crowd and she like finally like lock eyes and she's like Like... Breakfast Club. like to be fair she turns around and is walking away after they like smile and then she does it So it's not so much like, boom, you know, like I think these small details matter, but it's still.

Speaker: I still was like. That's a lot. that's a lot it's a lot it's a lot it does it does it did it was i was saying like it's maybe not fair to compare it to the social network it's honestly like in a meta sense like it's better to maybe not focus so much on trying to

Speaker: fully get at the character of Mark Zuckerberg and apologize it and try to follow up in that way. It's totally acceptable to tell this different story. I'm just confused. As to why, though, it's such a departure in like.

Speaker: just an interesting movie to watch at the end of the day only natural when something is like seemingly a sequel you can call it as a companion piece as much as you'd like but like it to the general public is a sequel it's only natural to want to compare them like that's what is going to happen even if you're like oh well actually that's not the goal of this it's not the goal but it's what's gonna happen yeah like yeah that's just so

Speaker: That's what I'm fixated on. And I guess it's accurate because I have been writing about it and I've just been thinking about it and explaining it to people and being like. Look, if you are curious about the series of events that happened, I think it's so like...

Speaker: It's a good summary of like that. you'll you'll You can catch a lot of information and go dig deeper. Yeah, watching it. the movie is Like yeah something one can do and potentially enjoy but i think there's if you are looking for something that's as like exciting and thrilling etc etc etc you could find a lot more interesting like investigative journalism movies um that deliver on that. Yeah.

Speaker: it's It's definitely and happened and all the events in the thing. Like big picture. I don't, i'm off I'm honestly not entirely sure what creative liberties he might've taken. I mean, I can, I have a good guess at some of them, but. some of them seem a little you know but um I was like

Speaker: Could have been an interesting documentary. but That's... That's actually interesting. That's, I wasn't going to talk about, sorry to now start overriding. I watched last night. I said enough. Yes, my turn. I'm going now. I'm taking the spotlight. i I wasn't going to talk about it, but last night I watched You Can See Everything with Elizabeth Holmes. I'm not going to get.

Speaker: super into it because i don't want to spoil it for anything for anyone but i also I watched it so recently that I feel like I still need time to like get my thoughts together on it before I... splash them on the internet forever. um But a big part of it was... or a part of it was her talking about the dropout with Amanda Seyfried and how a lot of people viewed that.

Speaker: as a documentary instead of in like word um Like saying that everything that happened in that was true, which obviously it's fiction, but like it's based in reality. And a lot of it yeah did happen, even if it didn't happen exactly as they said it. like um specific lines maybe didn't happen but they know that the sentiment was there that was kind of a big part of it and um

Speaker: Yeah. yeah uh that just made me think of that of people not always necessarily knowing the difference between. um a fiction and a documentary especially yeah isn't explicitly stated as much of this happened this didn't

Speaker: this didn't which like why would they for a movie like that no one's gonna come out and say we're lying about this part like that's not yeah and that it comes up again with primetime right exactly couldn help but think a little bit about primetime as i was watching the social network because i know i guess there's something i feel like so much of the social reckoning and felt so like just deeply like unstylized You know what I mean? Like primetime is like almost not an extreme example, but a very distinct example um where there's there.

Speaker: You can understand that everything is not exactly true. But you can understand the direction and the point of like portraying something. in a certain way, portraying a character in a certain way. um Again, just the the amount of like direction and intentionality, um which I feel is very similar to like the social network. I feel like you could even arguably draw a line between something like the social network and something like primetime in terms of like.

Speaker: um yeah trying to understand a like real life living figure in a way and like in a certain way or maybe not a line but you know what i mean like they're they're in a group they're in a class together um and the social reckoning again it's weird because i'm like i understand this was not its point to like get at the character of mark zuckerberg it was telling a different story but I don't think it's completely absolved from like being.

Speaker: quite dry and again a bit uninteresting and interesting in like what it possibly had to add to the discussion but there's like the this extent to which it i don't think they had much to add through almost no fault of their own in a way like what again it's like kind of the question of like we know about facebook you know what i mean like we do know um and so yeah i feel like with that movie i just keep going back and forth between being like

Speaker: not unstylized a bit drab like not very interesting filmmaking in my opinion as far as i can go to say yeah But. like sure at the same time coming back to the same thing being like but Sure. um but i'm also curious about curious and excited for artificial oh Oh my gosh.

Speaker: i I saw the trailer for the first time before the movie I watched last night and I didn't realize it was Andrew Garfield in that. or I think I'd heard it, but I didn't like really register it. I was like, oh my God, they're doing, he loves his little tech movies. Exactly. How fun for him. I'm excited for that one. I feel like I've heard a sprinkle of good things. Again, it also kind of like comes into this entire. Hey, Luca Guadagnino.

Speaker: And it's our King Luca Guadagnino who can our king do very little wrong, according to me, not at least. I mean, I think the one that people maybe feel less. less kind towards is After the Hunt. yeah so but Not garfield my favorite, but...

Speaker: i'll stand by it whatever i thought the directing as far as it goes good exactly It was a script I wasn't necessarily rocking with. Yeah, I think it was just a little bit of an interesting movie. But I thought the directing was was good. I thought the performances were great. We're good. Exactly. I thought Andrew Garfield especially was good. There's a lot to say to highlight him out. yeah Anyway, I'm still thinking about um you can see everything a little bit which i've

Speaker: I really last night was like, I'm not talking about it on the pod. Here we go. Whatever. I feel like whenever you do that. I know. Yeah, whenever I have the thought that I'm like, it's not coming up. i Inevitably, I'm like. I can do nothing but bring it up. Because I also really, I don't actually, I went in blind. Like I knew what it was about, obviously, but I hadn't actually seen a full trailer. And so I don't know how much of this is.

Speaker: out there at all and so i don't want to give any specifics because i really liked the part that i was surprised by i like to be surprised by it so i won't give specifics at all um But I don't think and again, I could be wrong. To me, it was marketed as a documentary. I don't think I don't know if that's the official like. genre that they went with but i don't think it can actually be classified that way i think that it was a movie the first half was a documentary the second half

Speaker: So much of it was based in kind of memory and well, here's what happened as I remember it. And here's what she said when I talked to her, when the cameras were off. and While it was really interesting and really cool and I really loved the way they did it, like I really loved watching it.

Speaker: That. is not a documentary because You can't, like, you cannot tell a story that you are saying is 100 true that is based in memory like that's not human memory can't be relied upon like that.

Speaker: yeah and so i just don't I think that calling it a documentary, which again, maybe they're not doing, maybe that's me misunderstanding things, but that is just false. It wasn't completely a documentary because so much of it was Nathan Fielder saying, here's what happened as I remember it. And here's how I interpreted events. And I'm going to tell you what happened when we had to turn the mics off or when the cameras weren't rolling or all these different things.

Speaker: And that's just not. that's not a documentary you can't like i really loved watching it but that does not mean that it's true. Your memory of events and your interpretation of events is not factual and you can't present it that way which like they weren't at least clear of saying this is how i interpreted them but that I don't know. That doesn't make a documentary to me. Yeah, that's really interesting. It was really interesting.

Speaker: Also... I don't know. I'm not as like well -versed in general, like documentary filmmaking. because honestly Honestly, it's a big so i could be blind spot. I'm like, it's a really blind spot. I don't watch documentaries. I don't know about the definition of documentary, I guess, but that's not what it means to me, which yeah could be wrong. Whatever. Who knows? Yeah. But that is really interesting because I wonder how, I guess, like.

Speaker: other documentarians i wonder what the like if there might be a divide i wonder if there's like schools of thought i guess like documentation filmmaking the thought on that end of yeah what actual documentarians have to say about it because it was great it was super interesting and super entertaining But I don't know how much actual, like... truth there was to at least the second half of the movie me yeah Yeah, but it seems in keeping

Speaker: with um i like again at least like nathan fielder yeah like definitely very much being Very much blurring the like. his own role as like i mean lucky this comes once again a little bit like um What's it called?

Speaker: like researchy, but like. the participant observer. um It was very interesting to see him. the like the researcher as a main character in the documentary. It was really interesting. And i'm like I'm not super, super familiar with documentaries as a whole, but I haven't seen something like that before.

Speaker: So it was interesting to watch and like, he's a funny guy. But it's not necessarily a funny topic. So it was really interesting to kind of see watch the divide there. Yeah. Because it was funny, but also parts of it.

Speaker: We're not funny. yeah Yeah. I'm really interested in in seeing it. um See if I went get to that soon, and we can talk about it. Yeah. You and I need to have a sit down. Exactly. With the cameras off. Yeah. No holds barred. I liked it. yeah I liked it. It was interesting. I just yeah, I have my reservations on.

Speaker: I don't know Yeah. Because also... um It's because he was such a character in it It's like... A lot of it is, I don't know what to believe when it comes to Elizabeth Holmes. I don't know if she's lying. I don't know if this or that, but yeah I don't know how much I believe on Nathan Fielder's end either. Like maybe you're lying to me too. I don't know. I don't know how much I believe any of you. and i

Speaker: It was an interesting way to go about a documentary of like, maybe you're all lying to me. I don't know. Yeah. You can see everything, but like. Not really.

Speaker: everybody's being sneaky here you guys are all weird you're all looking at each other weird You're all making weird eye contact and I don't like it. No, I think I do. I'm i'm very intrigued. by yeah that because yeah definitely again whether intentionally or unintentionally I feel like I could imagine there's probably some intention but like yeah just kind of like really kind of throwing into tension even idea of some kind of like omniscient like yeah neutral

Speaker: creator of a documentary or like guide through the in the like subject matter of a documentary which i feel like is maybe a more conventional mode of doing those yeah my limited understanding of the i genre but like um

Speaker: Fascinating. Tricky stuff. Tricky stuff. I shall see it soon. I must. I must. But okay. Okay. What's yeah far so more definitively speak to your fixations? I've had, it's been like a big movie week for me. ah i've seen a bunch of them i've been really getting um getting my money's worth out of my amca list this month which has been great it's been awesome i think i feel like that's

Speaker: A really unique movie is reminding me I saw a Digger the other day. Yes, I have not yet. You know, obviously a lot of mixed responses to that one as well. I'll come out and say it. I loved that one. I really liked it. It was...

Speaker: kind of Like, a little bit... Unlike I've ever seen before, as people are saying, but... That was another one I went in pretty blind to, and I think that was intentional. they were The marketing was really unclear about what the movie was about. It was pretty focused just on Tom Cruise as a whole, which... Turns out I'm a fan of Tom Cruise. I've been talking about him a lot lately. Like I'm learning things about myself. yeah um

Speaker: but so he did great ah obviously he was like actually really incredible and he stole the show obviously but it was his show in the first place um yeah so i i you know nobody knows what it was really about and so i'm not going to spoil it for you again and so i really because everyone listening should go watch it and also don't look up anything yeah So I won't say anything super specific. The style, kind of the format of the movie was a thing that I have seen before, but kind of the way that they told the story.

Speaker: wasn't and it was it was a climate change movie like at the end of the day it was largely about like you know so so society and culture and whatever but climate change was at the heart of it um And it...

Speaker: Hook us on a... path. that I haven't been taken down before by... A movie. It's like kind of. Overall thesis.

Speaker: I've... I don't think I've heard a movie or a piece of art. say that before yeah And it was really, really interesting because it was...

Speaker: it was pretty nihilistic and i don't like nihilism i really that's i don't rock with that ever But - I think the movie was funny enough to make up for it and it was so over the top and so like theatrical in a way that I really like enjoyed i thought it was just so fun with the color and the like lighting and then my sister i was talking to her beforehand and she also didn't know anything about it but she was saying that um

Speaker: every like still that she saw it looked like a musical so she was like is it a musical yeah and it's just not but it's so clearly like they're doing that on purpose it does look like at any point they could break into song and I really loved it it was so cool it was just they all kind of like put their heart into it they really went for it all of them it was so I like a movie sometimes mm -hmm Excuse me. That's so...

Speaker: over the top like that and just so out there it was really It was really fun. At the end of the day, I really liked it. It was really cool. Yeah. Interesting. Not everybody's feeling that way. Not everybody is rocking with it. Right. but i yeah I loved it. I do feel like.

Speaker: People that I generally trust, though. People that I know. Let's start with that. Have like been like, no, I actually quite like it. It's actually pretty interesting. It was cool. um and so i'm very just yeah I'm interested in seeing um I'm excited.

Speaker: to hear your take on it i want you to see it i want to know what you think Because I try to see it soon. I don't know. I would imagine that you would feel similarly to me, but who knows? A lot of people that I've spoken to...

Speaker: in real life have been like, yeah, it was good. It was cool, but it was also a little like much for me. And I don't know if I loved it. Like I liked it and I see what they were doing. I was expecting to feel that way to be like, nah, I don't know. I was with it from the beginning and I stayed with it. I kind of enjoyed every second of it. like There was a point where I was like, maybe I...

Speaker: wasn't gonna like i thought i would kept expecting the next thing to happen to knock me out of that and to start disliking it. and that didn't happen i was with it the whole time and the ending The ending kind of took my breath away.

Speaker: The way that they ended it was kind of crazy. Which, I mean, I say that. You're selling me. I say that pretty easily. A lot of things can take my breath away, but I loved it. Yeah. No, but lit. I mean, I want to see it. It's great. It's really great. It's a thing. Like, genuinely, so many things to see. but those are definitely those two at the top. I know it's really, it's really happening. It's really happening. Which gets me excited for like the fourth season and everything. And like just the end of this year, we've got some good things coming. I'm excited. We really do.

Speaker: But fantastic. I really want to see Dicker. It's been a real a real movie season. Oh my gosh. I was, um you know this, obviously. And if you follow our Instagram, you also know this. I was lucky enough to get an early screening to Wicker.

Speaker: which was really, um um really, really fun. It turned out to be like a little mini premiere situation. It was like the first screening they did in New York. The directors were there. A lot of the cast was there. It was very cool. Stellan Skarsgård was there. but they know Alexander Skarsgård was there, Ellen. Yeah, exactly. Well, two, but just in the movie. I know. Fair, fair, fair, fair. I wasn't expecting to see Stellan Skarsgård, to see Mamma Mia.

Speaker: Anyway, so that was really, really cool. um i really liked that movie, which it comes out on the 23rd. I believe. So I think By the time this podcast is released, it'll be out.

Speaker: Yes. Right? Yeah. I think so anyway. Another one that was really fun and another one that was like... Actually, I want to... pretty blind to that i had seen the teaser but i don't think i'd seen the full trailer but Another one that kind of really took me by surprise, it was So...

Speaker: obviously i was expecting it to be like raunchy and silly and like ah funny It was. so sweet also and it was those things like it was obviously raunchy and crazy and silly and funny and whatever but it At its heart, it was a rom -com, and it was a romantic one. It was very, very sweet. Love it. Yeah. like the love between this man made out of basket and Olivia Goldman.

Speaker: It was so nice. And I really loved, he just had some of the the loveliest, most romantic lines. Oh my God. I'm excited to see that one.

Speaker: It was so so sweet. It was so sweet. I really liked it. Like and I wasn't expecting to be calling it sweet. From the trailer, you're like that. No, like it's insane. Yeah. It was so nice. It was so cute. It was like, oh, those two people are in love. Yeah. And it was, i like that you know, about. like this woman who's on the outside outside of society and she's been alone her whole life and finally she like

Speaker: find someone who's a little bit outside the norm and so a little bit and so the people of the village are not into it and they don't like it but they see that love that's between them and it's real and they're jealous of it and so they turn hateful. It was so nice. And it felt... It felt like a fairy tale, obviously. like it yeah yeah it was just fantastical and very I don't know. It's really nice. And I really liked the ending. it i

Speaker: The way that they were leading up to the ending, I was... getting preemptively angry because it was like what are you about to do here i don't like I don't know. It probably wasn't as supposed to be as like. hopeful. So found it.

Speaker: It was more funny, but I was like, oh yes. Feminism. And also like, yay. it was good for everybody I loved it

Speaker: it's really nice i hate when we haven't seen the same movies i know it's the worst we're just telling each other anyway but yes i want to see that one and i'm not surprised in a way that it is does have like a sweet core to it that doesn't surprise me and i would that's what i was expecting basically like i feel like with the like release of like the trailers like that and some of the like discourse on line. If I can even say that, you know, as much as it kind of like passed.

Speaker: crossed my desk of people being like oh my god and I was like I said yeah I get it I get that like part of the appeal of it in a way is yeah to like be like oh my goodness like that is kind of like a little wacky little premise but I was like I yeah it's a love story yeah I was like that seems like something just vibes wise you can tell it's like I feel like they were probably gonna do a bit of a little nice like grounded yeah you know something really actually like emotionally heartfelt um

Speaker: in there so i'm excited i'm excited to see that one not everybody's cup of tea but it's mine i love like a weird rom -com i mean i watched um the shape of water for the first time this year and that's a in that ish like that's even been weirder i love that that one was another one that was It was really a fairy tale. And I wasn't.

Speaker: I don't know. Cause all I knew about it, it came out when I was a little bit younger. And so I feel like. All I knew was what my like. parents had said of like oh my god it's crazy and it's this and it's not and it is but Like...

Speaker: So I wasn't expecting it to be as heartfelt, I think, as it was. I was expecting it to be just this weird movie. Woman falls in love with a fish. Yeah. but it was so romantic but it was her gosh they loved each other like they understood each other and it was kind of the same a very similar vibe here of like it's a fairy tale of course it's not real life it's supposed to be fantastical and magical and lovely and there's real love there Yeah.

Speaker: I loved it. I loved it. I like that type of stuff. I love that kind of stuff. I'm excited to see that one. That's great. Yeah. such a such a Such a list of movies. Yeah. Ugh. How are we going to do it all? I don't know. You're doing a good job to be clear. Thank you. Yeah. very I'm working very hard. I'm working myself to the bone. I'm working very hard. It's real. I'm laughing because like. For real. It's real. It's a commitment like this. yeah You're clocking in. I am. I'm clocking in this a award season. Like I'm going to be.

Speaker: I'm going to be on it. I'm going to be in it. October to like March is an exhausting time. in the life of movie Yeah. I have to catch up. I have to find a way to catch up. we might be seeing to the best of my ability. um Not really this.

Speaker: That's good. that's We'll see. i actually don't do many double features at least in the theater i don't know if i've really done one maybe ever before, but I did one recently and I had so much fun. I went kind of early in the morning and I brought a pastry and a coffee in, which was. the best. I saw a fjord in the morning and I saw a digger. And that one.

Speaker: It was cool. The double feature, man, the art of the double feature. It was great. I've done that before. I think I had like a good, a decent movie marathon. once where i went to see two movies and i went to a screening of problemista um I can't remember, or I saw like.

Speaker: monkey man and i saw something else and i saw probably and it was a good day it was a good day it was real yeah what else if we got on our list? What's something that's coming out that we haven't talked about yet that you want to see?

Speaker: pfft Definitely just like waiting for Dune, but I think they've like not. actually will be good done a lot of promo for that yet, which I accept and that's fine. I'm very patient. I'm looking forward to seeing La bola negra. Me too. Oh my God. Right? Oh my goodness.

Speaker: i really want to see this clarissa movie yeah oh my god me too yes yes i wish i remembered the other actress's name i do know i do know her i actually really really like her because she is um the queen in the best season of bridgerton she plays the young queen in the best oh yes yes the movie clarissa it's um starring india amartya faye

Speaker: Amartya Theo. okay that's how you say it And then Ayo's in there. And Tauheed Jamal, he's in. He was in the last season of Industry. Just in general, the yeah cast seems very good. I really enjoyed seeing the trailer. I saw a little clip of Io doing a British accent that I thought that was crazy.

Speaker: i mean as far as i can never heard an accent like that come out of An American's mouth. I thought that was right. I was like, I think that sounds pretty good to me. Genuinely off -putting. I was like, I don't know how she did that. Which, I mean, if you're English, tell us if it was good or not. Exactly, right? Like for me to judge low -key, but it sounded great to my but eye my American ears. Exactly, exactly. And so if I could find a way to see that, I understand that it is um a reimagining. occasion

Speaker: Mrs. Dalloway. Mrs. Dalloway. I'm not even that familiar with that story originally. Like I will do, I will study up, I'll learn, but the the actual movie looks really good. And I'm really interested in seeing it. It looks great.

Speaker: It's young. that so those are a couple for me what about you that's exciting oh god and of of course artificial ah as we already mentioned yes um What have I got? Crap. I wasn't expecting this. did you actually to watch of from Crap.

Speaker: Um. I mean, all of those ones, like those are like the big ones. I was just saying to you before we started recording, I need to go see whale fall. Cause I, one thing about me. I love a movie.

Speaker: but That's an action movie where the main action is... or The... the trouble the problem is person stuck in place like 47 meters down fall, that movie where they're stuck under the pool cover, whatever that one's called. go

Speaker: so I love that genre of movie. So Guy Stuck in Whale. because It seems like it's going to be just my thing. I'm so excited. I need to watch that. I'm excited for you. I won't be going near it, but I'm excited for you. I'm really excited about that. I need to go watch it. Yeah. Like, obviously there's a lot of.

Speaker: arty ones that i want to watch because i love an arty movie i'm excited to go see sense and sensibility i have tickets to go see that yeah next week i Yes, I think I might see that. That's exciting. um so there's all of those i want to see werewolf i'm really excited for werewolf i'm excited for that um What else? yeah I'm excited.

Speaker: I'm gonna see Doomsday. Yeah.

Speaker: I think more than anything, and this is from a girl who - deep in her heart, who does love a superhero movie and who does love Marvel, yeah I'm excited for it to be over. I'm excited for it to be done. um Yeah. Cause like, listen. They're killing the Winter Soldier, right? They're killing Bucky Barnes in that, if not everyone else. He's gone. That's a character I really like. I'm excited for Sebastian Stan to get out of there. Free him, yeah Loki. You can breathe now, Simon. yeah You get to exhale now. I didn't even do the quote right. Simon, exhale. Leave it in. You get to breathe now. Leave it in. No, leave it in.

Speaker: Like literally, I hope they let him exhale. Yeah. and selfishly like i don't want them to do that i don't want them to kill bucky barnes i love that guy um that's my that's my guy because i have empathy for sebastian stan they need to free let him go do his like like character acting if you love him let him go he does some really fun cool stuff he just played he's stunned as bald homophobe in fjord

Speaker: Sebastian. Sounds, sounds poor. Yeah. Awesome. Exactly. um yeah Let him do his thing. Let him. Get a little crazy with it. Let him do his arthouse thing. Yeah, let him do it. Oh my God. Speaking of... that Me hitting a million tangents this episode. Speaking of. i don't know marvel actors i watched the other day um Not another teen movie starring Chris Evans.

Speaker: Sure, yeah. For the first time. Yeah. which it's like a satirical rom -com whatever they're kind of yeah parody they're like making fun of kind of every rom -com of the 80s 90s yeah it's so clearly like also a love letter to the rom -com because right of course you can't make a movie like that if you haven't seen every rom -com that came out in the 80s and 90s i loved it i thought it was so funny i was cracking up Also...

Speaker: every single side character in that movie. has been in supernatural and so i've recognized every i which is always fun when i can do that yeah To be fair, every single thing that I watch has at least one actor from Supernatural in it because that's a show that ran for 20 years. And same with Grey's Anatomy, same with whatever. like yeah

Speaker: criminal minds i don't know everybody has been in an episode of it yeah everyone like svu that's a thing every actor has done svu oh yes of course every actor passage has done supernatural as well but it was fun i've never experienced every single extra. Having been in Supernatural.

Speaker: I was like, why is that guy here? So that was fun to watch. It was great. I really enjoyed it. It was funnier than I was expecting. It's one that I'd been like meaning to watch it on my list literally forever, but I had been putting it off for years.

Speaker: It was so much fun. It was so silly. whatever i also love a rom -com and i love a movie that loves a rom -com so there we go obviously enjoyed that nice. It should be all for me. We don't need to keep going. I feel like, yeah, it might be about time to wrap it up. Kind of had the idea of like.

Speaker: naming a fall spooky time just because this does come out right before yeah halloween even just to shout one out quickly not to spend much time i was really thinking about just like going back into time watching kind of like halloween town i remember i really loved halloween town and like those things right because yeah yeah

Speaker: um you know but yeah those are just such classics i was like i feel like i could throw those on at some point in time um and that would be really nice so that was my shout out i didn't really grow up watching that many like halloween movies because Like...

Speaker: I've seen Practical Magic now, but I watched that with you a couple years ago. Yeah, that's like a newer edition. I had never seen... I don't know any of the main like Disney ones. So if we're focused. so good Oh my goodness. you shouldn I know I shouldn't get on that. Maybe that's what I'll do this year. Maybe I need to lock in on my Halloween movies, but if we're talking something spooky, I. am i allowed to talk about leviticus again like oh yeah it's scary so it counts

Speaker: Oh my god, I spent a whole episode. of this already talking about Leviticus, but if you haven't seen it, go watch it. Oh my God. I haven't seen it yet. Go watch it. Yeah. It's so good. yeah oh my god just beautiful and it's also like a love story obviously so this is a comment but it's scary so it's not but it's it's a horror movie no i like that suggestion it's great okay and now with that with that

Speaker: happy halloween exactly goodbye and happy halloween maybe in future years we'll do a real legit halloween episode but um we can be in costume or something we'll be dressed as cheerios next year so oh my gosh please we can bring back the costumes that'd be fantastic so that means you guys have to be like fans until then exactly if you want us to keep doing this if you want to see us as cheerios

Speaker: Keep listening and watching and following Fixator .pod on all socials. You guys have a good, ah safe holiday weekend. And um thanks for listening as always.

Speaker: Peace. We love you. Bye.
