00:00:26
Speaker
Hey everyone, how are you doing? Welcome to another wonderful episode of God

Meet the Guests: Dallas and Victor

00:00:32
Speaker
Talks. Today we're out in this amazing scenery and Dallas's lovely home. So I'm just going to actually introduce them. Today have Dallas.
00:00:44
Speaker
Oh my goodness, I forgot your... Tychrob. It's a tough one to say. yeah Okay, okay. So today I have Dallas Tychrob and Victor Chesrem, my brothers, mighty men of prayer and the word.
00:00:57
Speaker
We're going to get into it. We have a very interesting

The Art of Networking: A New Focus

00:01:00
Speaker
topic. So kind of just to backtrack the topics I've been talking about for the past few episodes, if you've been listening, have really zoned in a lot on God's word and gaining that foundation.
00:01:12
Speaker
and getting to know exactly what God talks is about. That's you know amazing and all, but we want to kind of get into a topic I don't think many people address, let alone young people.
00:01:25
Speaker
So I really kind of wanted to touch on that topic today, and that is mastering the art of network networking, right? Communicating, learning to grow with people.
00:01:39
Speaker
So I think these guys are pretty ready to get into it today. I kind of want to hear from them what they think as we and talk about this. So I've got some little bit of questions, I guess, just to start us off and hear what you guys think. But my first one, I'll start with you, Dallas, since you're closest to me.

Dallas's Journey with Link Church

00:01:59
Speaker
When did you realize the value of connection and gaining a community in your walk with God?
00:02:10
Speaker
Probably the day that I joined the young adults group at the Link, to be honest. like What's the young adults group? you explain that? It's a group of people from ages, i think, 18 to 30. 18 to 30, right?
00:02:24
Speaker
Get together from the Link Church every Tuesday, just not during the summer. Obviously, people got families and stuff like that. And we just get together every Tuesday, have some worship, someone leads a message, it's different every day. I know Luke always makes a joke about how it's always random, and it's just like, you never know what's going to happen, yeah which is which is honestly, I like that better.
00:02:43
Speaker
I think if things are a little bit too much planned out, then it's kind of like, might get a little stale for some people. Not that it should be stale, right? But I think, yeah. definitely the the young adult group with the link man it's like i joined there met this lovely man to my right and just like my relationship with god and like the feeling in my heart of that god's presence just like grew tenfold just being in a room even with people i didn't even know yeah yeah and like i don't know if you were in our small group that first night but we started sharing things about
00:03:17
Speaker
each other's problems and struggles and i was like wow there's people other believers of my age that deal with this stuff too right yeah and it's just it's pretty incredible yeah what community can do for someone right and I think it's very important too.
00:03:30
Speaker
What are your thoughts on that Victor? That's really well said.
00:03:35
Speaker
So networking and the importance of networking in the

Victor's Early Networking Lessons

00:03:40
Speaker
Christian. Yeah, but to start us off, where did you kind of realize the value of actually of connecting with people? Okay.
00:03:48
Speaker
I think for me it started from a very young age. My dad and mom have daughter-in-law alwaysing those people who of raised us in know in a manner of don't fear anybody.
00:04:03
Speaker
you they My mom loves this quote, your network is your network. The people that you know are the people who are going to help you reach to that net worth that you desire. Not really financially, but in terms of people you know, contacts you've made and such and such and such.
00:04:25
Speaker
So I think it started from a very young age. I remember my dad I'd go for events and my dad would literally leave me in an event by myself for three hours. Oh my goodness.
00:04:36
Speaker
It's like being left alone in the grocery store. and You're like, where's my parents at? So you remember, you don't have a phone, so you can't contact your dad. Wow. And then my dad would tell me to interact, talk to people.
00:04:50
Speaker
And he wasn't ever concerned that someone might just... nope No. No? no
00:04:59
Speaker
It's ah it's ah it's a event, like a big business event or a church event or anything, a conference. A business event? Yeah. And he takes me there. How old were you? was like 10.
00:05:11
Speaker
ten oh man victor was dialed

Victor's Experiences Across Kenya

00:05:15
Speaker
i was dialed for a very long time i didn't like it i really hated it i wouldn't like it but i always wanted to go for such events right that's like getting thrown into pool when you're young and your dad's like learn how to swim here you go and you're just like i gotta figure it out gotta figure out yeah and then also i think from a very young age as young as eight nine i've always been probably
00:05:43
Speaker
class you have a private class it's kind of like a class monitor okay yeah so i've always been not really a leader but like one of those people who are considered to be looked up to yeah looked up to and i really i didn't look for it it just somehow always happened and then in high school that's where i was in a boarding school so we only met we only saw girls on the weekends and that's if you're lucky but but that's if you're good at you we always know it yeah so we always had events yeah events and we called them functions funkies you and and know in a slam we called them school functions yeah so i was i played soccer in high school we called it football i was in the music festivals.
00:06:38
Speaker
i was in the Christian Union, i was in the science fair, so I kind of did a lot of things, juggled a lot of things in my hand. And I think through those through those events that I got to meet people from different parts of Kenya at that point.
00:06:56
Speaker
different people with different ways how they think, who challenge you in and even ideas, who challenge you in in... I remember during one science fair, came we were doing a project Locust and don't laugh at us.
00:07:13
Speaker
On what? On Locust. Locust? Yeah. Oh, okay. so Why are you saying don't laugh? It's Locust. This guy always laughed about... Well, you said Locust, so maybe I'll laugh at that.
00:07:25
Speaker
So... So we were trying to come up with a device that can capture this locust and how we can use it to benefit the society.
00:07:38
Speaker
We did some research. I remember doing a lot of research with my friend. His name is Abdallah. We did a research and then we realized locusts and grasshoppers can be good for animal feeds.
00:07:50
Speaker
Some communities in Africa locusts, which is very interesting. And also and is rich in some nutrients. So I would have never known all this if it was not by getting into such events and getting to talk to people, and getting to ask questions.
00:08:13
Speaker
that's I think that's networking has always been something I think about. I like what you said about like challenging, like being challenged. And I think that's a huge part, like even when my relationship with God wasn't so, as great as it is now when I was younger in like youth group, like how important just being around people, like even as a youth, like you're still trying to figure things out, whether that's your life or your relationship with God and where that's supposed to lead you, right? yeah But I think the biggest thing about youth group was just like, there's so much fun, you have so much fun with youth group, just like we have fun with Link and even our Zion group, right? Like...
00:08:48
Speaker
But at the end of the day, it's like you always have these people around you that are also believers that are there to challenge you and help you grow with your faith. And you got that even not even with like a religious aspect, right?

Biblical Community Perspectives

00:09:00
Speaker
That was just your life. That's what that's kind of what you had to do. And I think that helps be able to be more of a personable person and just kind of know how to talk to people really, right? Yeah.
00:09:12
Speaker
interesting stuff yeah so this one i'm just going to throw it out there and then whoever wants to go first can go ahead but um centering it back to a more biblical perspective because we want to look at that aspect first before we you know branch off yeah why would you say community and building relationships is so central uh from god's design or perspective i can start yeah so oh look at from the time of Moses in the Bible,
00:09:47
Speaker
the Lord has always called upon his people as his chosen people. Remember the Israelites? Abraham had to perform circumcision on a certain group of people in order to for them to have a mark of identity.
00:10:04
Speaker
So I think biblically, it has always been something that unity and identity has always been.
00:10:21
Speaker
It's something that has always happened ever since the Old Testament. The New Testament. and Paul writes in Colossians 3.13, talks about... talks about prayer, like the walk of ah of a believer, it talks about whether there is unity the Lord commands a blessing. Proverbs 17 talks about a friend in terms of adversity, a brother.
00:10:44
Speaker
I think we've people need people. God also needs man for him to operate you know in in in this earth. cannot There is a position that man um occupies or there's a there's a certain authority that was given to man ever since genesis 1 till today that cannot be occupied by god and there's a position that god has cannot be occupied by man i think it is vice versa and i think also partnering the holy spirit that's why it's important because the holy spirit is
00:11:18
Speaker
God in spirit and then remember as a man you are in a bodily form a fleshly form you're in a soul form and a spirit form so I think for God is spirit those who worship him worship him in spirit and in truth for you to access God in spirit the inner man in you which is in spirit form has to be in life is also a spirit so I think that is already a relationship that is um already a one-on-one relationship I mean Dallas has talked about community with blink link the link young adults yeah I think it's it's's it's it's it's very essential especially for believers to two yeah to yeah
00:12:04
Speaker
Yeah, I think like building off where you said, you mentioned Genesis, which is kind of interesting cause i already had something in my head about Adam and Eve. It's like, there it is one i I always think community, obviously everyone thinks community, it's a big group of people, but community could also just be two or three.
00:12:21
Speaker
Like right here, this could be a small community, yeah right? And there's a reason why God... made Adam and Eve. It wasn't just Adam, wasn't just Eve, because we need people. We need, whether that's one person, whether that's a group of people, like, we need people.
00:12:36
Speaker
And, like, the biggest thing i'd think of... When I think of community, like going back to what I said about people struggling with addiction and stuff, it's like, you have no idea how many people in the church are struggling with stuff that you probably are struggling with too.
00:12:50
Speaker
It's like, there's a lot of like non-believers who are kind of thinking about going to church and they're kind a little bit like, oh, yeah I feel like I have all this sin, but it's realistically, we all have a lot of sin and we all are together and we all should be able to help each other like as one big community,

Community: Growth and Support

00:13:05
Speaker
right? Like that's...
00:13:06
Speaker
I may not be as keen on the scripture as you are, which I wish I could just quote stuff like that. You'll get there eventually. not like that right now, but we'll get there eventually. I've not always been like this. No, that's fair.
00:13:20
Speaker
But I think, yeah, I mean. It's the community. It is. It is a community. It is community. It is. It is. But even just like the Bible stories you hear that are very common to people, like David and Goliath.
00:13:33
Speaker
David wasn't by himself. True. chair Obviously he had God, but he also had all of his siblings, <unk>lings all people backing up, and the angels that were probably there watching over him the whole time too, right? yeah And even when he was in the lion's den, he wasn't alone.
00:13:49
Speaker
He may have been alone yeah physically, yeah but he was not alone in that moment, right? And they're still having those people, whether you can see them or not. The lions became a community. For Daniel.
00:14:00
Speaker
For Daniel. But I find it interesting just kind of tying what you both said together. um You mentioned community, but also the importance of unity. right And then you mentioned how community doesn't necessarily have to be this large thing. you know Maybe someone thinks of community, they think of an actual residential area or something.
00:14:23
Speaker
But community can be as simple as what are you in fellowship with? yeah And then the biggest thing is you have to be united, right? Which is something... Honestly, in today's world, everyone's trying to look for what can they make for themselves yeah and forgetting that what built society is community.
00:14:43
Speaker
What built society is literally me saying I'm going to drop what I have got going on to help you with what you've got going on. That's what Adam and Eve, you know, that was basically a story until, you know, the other stuff. Until the, uh... Anyway. Hopefully there aren't any apples anywhere in your clan. No apple trees, only cherries, man. Okay, cool. Oh, we got the sun coming out too, man. um
00:15:14
Speaker
So I got another one for you guys. Now this one... We hear the word networking. I've kind of already tossed that in here. and We've kind of touched on it, but we hear that word a lot in today's world, and it sounds more like a business buzzword.
00:15:29
Speaker
But how can young Christians today reframe networking as a kingdom tool and not just a career move?

Networking as a Kingdom Tool

00:15:39
Speaker
I think just being more open about your beliefs. I think that's something that I struggled with a lot yeah when I was younger, like being around sports and stuff. Like a lot of those, like I'd say majority of the people that I played sports with weren't believers. yeah Maybe a few here there, but I never knew.
00:15:56
Speaker
But I wish i was a little bit more open about that I went to church. And I think now i'm old now that I'm older, and I think it just helps as well that my relationship with God is way better, way stronger, that I'm just like, people always ask me, like, oh, what are you up to? I'm like, I'm...
00:16:12
Speaker
like living the best life right now and I owe it all to God. Obviously I owe it to family too and friends I've met along the way but at the end it's like it's God that really did that, did that for me and I think that's just a huge, a huge, huge part of it man and I think just being open with people even that aren't believers, like you you never know.
00:16:31
Speaker
Like what when I go to the gym, I'm wearing, I'm purposely wearing anything that has to do with God. Any shirt, hoodie that I have, because I want someone to ask me a question. I want someone to be curious, like, oh, you're wearing this the gym like it's a public place? I'm like, I don't care. yeah I want to be in a public place like this. And I think, I forget who told that story at Young Adults.
00:16:51
Speaker
I think it was Luke's dad who told it about the guy that started preaching in a bar. yeah and yeah and it started with like two people and it grew to like hundreds oh like that type of thing that's a bar that changed into a into like a church or like a meeting area right like those those types of things man that's that's what can happen you can you can network and build huge communities just by being honest and open about like people may hear it and then forget about it but at least you told someone right yeah
00:17:21
Speaker
Man, buzzes love me. I don't know why. Networking sounds like a business buzzword. yeah right And I love the spin you put on it.
00:17:32
Speaker
Because we don't think of preaching the gospel as networking. But it is. right And it's just that you're not you're not using preaching the gospel to try and gain popularity.
00:17:46
Speaker
It's just... who you are yeah And then it just it naturally builds what it talks about. But I want to hear what your thought on it is. We hear it as a buzzword, but what does it mean in kingdom sense?

Networking for God's Plans

00:18:00
Speaker
So networking, that's what we're focusing on, right? I think ne what is play network network. It has to be... a device that has to connect to to the to the network you get what i'm saying so there has to be a device and you can't see it like you can't it's not something you can see it but you can know that oh The self-service here is good or the self-service here is bad.
00:18:33
Speaker
But it's not like you can see where the bars are ah better. yeah you You have to have something on your hand in order to detect how it is. And I think that's the same thing as as believers.
00:18:47
Speaker
God is our device. You are the device. God is our main device. He's what you connect to. but again And you don't see that walking around the street. like you don't see You're not like, oh, that's a Christian, that's a non-Christian, that's a whatever. yeah But you have to talk to people so that you know who they are. I like home what you say.
00:19:08
Speaker
What is written on your... Because that's that's a mark. that's yeah How do I know this is a mobile phone? It's on how it looked. like If it was black like this, yeah, it's a phone, but does it work?
00:19:21
Speaker
But when you press the power, then it shows the lights. That's when you know it works. I like what you said about you wearing the Christian clothes so that people can specifically ask you questions about your faith.
00:19:37
Speaker
And I think into kingdom perspective,
00:19:42
Speaker
networking has always been part of part of kingdom building, Solomon, when he was building... Because remember, David was supposed to build the temple because his hands were full of blood, not literally speaking, and also, yeah So his son was passed on the mantle of doing that.
00:20:02
Speaker
Remember when Solomon was building the temple of the Lord, he had to interact with the, I remember, Queen of Sheba, Sheba from Ethiopia, He interacted with Persians, who were people from the Middle East.
00:20:16
Speaker
And this was a believer of Yahweh, a Jew. So I think they reached a point where Solomon had an agenda. It was about kingdom. He knew who he was building the temple for. But he wanted the finest of gold, the finest of timber from certain places. yeah But now he had to use the wisdom that was given to him.
00:20:40
Speaker
by them by his maker for him to be able to work on the project that was passed to him. But he had to talk to people, had to interact, he had to network with people from different camps even though they're not believers.
00:20:55
Speaker
but they're from different camps in order to perform a task that is worth a kingdom, that is worth a kingdom investment. I think as believers, we have to come out of our seats and go into, if it's a business world, if it's kind of our comfort zone a little bit, right?
00:21:16
Speaker
Like if what if if it's in our careers, if it's at workplace, if it's wherever we are, Having the the the the mind that you know who you are and who you are serving and knowing what why you're doing that thing, it is for you for the Lord, not for anybody else.
00:21:33
Speaker
I think that will really change even how we network. Yeah, for sure. I mean, even just like me wearing or anyone wearing Christian apparel,

Christian Apparel and Faith Conversations

00:21:43
Speaker
right? Like some people could potentially wear it to just kind of be like, yeah, some people might have that mentality like, I'm better because of this.
00:21:52
Speaker
But if you go into it with the mentality like, no, I want people to question. I want people to ask, like, why? And there's already been, there's a few people that have come up to me and they've said they really like, they're like, I love your hoodie, I love your shirt. And when I hear that, I'm just like, that just fills me with joy. So I'm like, that's a believer that went out of their way to comment on something mine, right? gotta invest in some more Christian merch now. I gotta to get on that. I gotta to get on that. Yeah, dude, it's, but i mean, it's, it is like,
00:22:20
Speaker
I like what you said about like connecting it kind of to a phone. And like you said, networking is more of a buzzword now. It is. It's like you're connecting company to company to make money for this and this and this. But like I don't know i don't about you guys, but for me, money isn't happiness.
00:22:38
Speaker
no And I think a lot of people chase that. yeah And I wish the community as a whole, the Christian community, would chase after building bigger and bigger and bigger communities, right? Rather than chasing after money or this or that or whatever. cause Like you said earlier, before we even started, like the Lord provides, man. He's going to provide. yeah It's going to happen regardless. Like there's, you probably have stories. You probably have stories. I have stories of how the Lord provides, but being able to just share that with other people and helping them understand yeah is just like, don't know.
00:23:16
Speaker
It's nice when you talk with someone that isn't much of a believer then you see them actually take in the information. It's a little different talking with someone. like, oh yeah, that's cool. See you later. But if someone's sitting there and they're actually listening, you're like, man, this person, you've got your stuff. It makes difference for sure. Amazing.
00:23:33
Speaker
and makes it it makes a difference for sure amazing You're spitting a fire today, man. Both of you are. You're doing good stuff.

Improving Communication Skills

00:23:43
Speaker
I'm just sitting there, I'm like, whew, maybe I should pull out my notepad and jot some things down. cause um Anyway, so I think now we should get into...
00:23:54
Speaker
some practical steps because we've kind of yeah touched on everything now but let's there's someone who's like okay this is cool and all but i'm not much of a talker right how would we suggest that person build their communication skills um or relationship building skills
00:24:16
Speaker
