Transcript

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Thanks, Jack. Welcome back to Little Hops of Horrors podcast. I'm John, your host as always. um This is the final episode. This is the last one we're doing. This is it. The award show is going to be the final episode. I have, ah yeah, man, this is it. I don't really know what else to say. It's been on my mind here for a little bit. We were going to try to stretch it out to end the next year and everything, but It's just time. It's just time. Uh we're just gonna we're just gonna bite the bullet and pull the trigger on it and I wanted a real reaction here. Hopefully, we get a a nice one here from our guest Austin from Fright Marriages here to join us and then we wouldn't uh wouldn't have it any other way uh for our final episode buddy. What's going on?

Austin - Frightmares: Well, now I'm sad because multiple, multiple reasons. Uh, obviously I don't want the show to end, but I'm not going to sit here and be like, you fucking do this show. No, no, I get it. Life happens, but, uh, I definitely am sad too because I wanted to do evil dead, but it's okay. I totally get it.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Maybe we'll do a special episode of Evil Dead next year. I don't know. Did you do it on your podcast yet?

Austin - Frightmares: No, I'm actually, we're actually next year it's on the schedule. So maybe we'll just make that the spiritual sequel to the, to this podcast or so something. ah We'll but figure it out.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Fuck yeah. Yeah, dude. Hell yeah. if that If that works out that way, awesome. If not, I totally understand. Uh, so what's been going on in the world of Frightmares? You want to fill everybody in on what you've been doing? You got some cool guests you've had on recently, all kinds of cool shit.

Austin - Frightmares: It's been going pretty good. Uh, yeah, we had, uh, Joko Anwar on in, uh, November. We had Eduardo Sanchez on in November. This month is December, obviously, and we are doing death, December. So we've got some killer Santa Claus movies. We've got.

Austin - Frightmares: Uh, we had some kind of creature feature movies we have. So, so far we've done gremlins. We've done, uh, we actually just recorded Santa's sleigh. We're doing Christmas evil.

Austin - Frightmares: We did Krampus. So it's a good month. And then we'll do our top 10 of the year, which will release on the 31st. So this is kind of a sneak preview of what's to come for that episode. Since we're talking about top stuff of the year on this episode.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Heck yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: Um, and then next year. We are doing what i'm dubbing the history of horror movies starting in nineteen seventy five going all the way to twenty twenty five so the past fifty years of horror movie it's one from each year, add the idea all the goal is to have one bonus episode a month,

Austin - Frightmares: with a guest, uh, you know, that's a director or actor. Like so far we have four lined up for next year, April May or of April, May, January, February, March, and April.

Austin - Frightmares: So I've got the first quarter of the year or third, I guess, of the year done in plan. So I just got to get more people on board, but I didn't want to plan too far. I didn't want to, I didn't want a message.

Austin - Frightmares: I want to be like, Hey, what are you doing next July? Cause that's a little,

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: yeah

Austin - Frightmares: a little far out. So yeah, that's what's been going on in the world of Frightmares and you'll be a monthly co -host over there next year since you're not doing this anymore and everything will balance out.

Austin - Frightmares: So.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah, thanks again for having me. I'm really looking forward to that opportunity, buddy.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh, of course. Of course.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Congratulations on all all the good things coming your way, man. You definitely deserve it. You put in a lot of hard work over there on Frightmares. I've said it before, you you have the best horror podcast I've ever heard. It's just, it's perfect.

Austin - Frightmares: Thank you.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I love it. It's fun. ah Your Gremlins episode was great. I love that. um And I never really, I never focused on that really Debbie Downer moment on Phoebe Cates's, where the hell did that come from?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I never picked up on that.

Austin - Frightmares: Dude, it's our favorite part every time because it comes out of nowhere. It's like a two and a half minute story. and You're like, dude, we should another time, man.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: right

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: yeah good

Austin - Frightmares: This isn't the time.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: yeah Yeah, I don't want to talk about this. Jesus Christ. Uh, yeah, we watched that last night and, uh, that the microwave scene got my wife.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh, yeah. Love gremlins.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: She was not a fan, but no, she hasn't seen a lot of horror movies, but she definitely didn't see gremlins.

Austin - Frightmares: Has she never seen gremlins before?

Austin - Frightmares: Interesting. Okay. Yeah, nice. Yeah that ah that's a good one.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: I mean, that's like that's like family friendly, you know to a certain degree ah You know, it's a good one.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Right. There's a couple gross scenes, but nothing like you know two in your face.

Austin - Frightmares: I love that one

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: All right, we're talking about the beers we're drinking tonight. We are gonna go out with a bang though. We're starting off with a double IPA from Three Floyds. It is a war mullet, like a party in the back. My kid is not behaving, so I guess my mom or ah the wife's taking him ah taken him to his room for the night, because he's just got to he's he's in the feral toddler stage.

Austin - Frightmares: ah

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: you yeah I'm sure you're well aware of what that's like.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh, dude, yeah, it's ah it's chaos.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um

Austin - Frightmares: every every day is Every day is a journey.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: date.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah, man, you're just fighting for survival until bedtime. It's insane. Jesus. Um, anyway, this appears 8 .1%. Now my dog's barking. What is going on? Whatever. It's the last episode. I don't give a fuck. Um, 8 .1%.

Austin - Frightmares: Everyone wants to be on the last episode. That's the what the problem is.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah, let's, let's go.

Austin - Frightmares: oh

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Um, I might actually have to go let her out. Let me get her real quick because she's a bitch.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah. In case you didn't, in case you didn't pause the, I just sat there and I was like, hi, hello.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: We're back now though.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Man, I should have just let it go. I was over here cursing at my damn dogs. I don't even know where the hell I was on that beer, but we're just gonna keep talking anyway.

Austin - Frightmares: 8 .5 % double IPA.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um Yep, yep, yep. And it's sitting at a 397 on tap. Second beer we're drinking. I actually went down to this festival over the weekend. It's Grist House.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It's their 2024 Firefest Reserve. This is a fucking banger. This actually won, not this particular year, I don't believe, but I think one or two years ago. um It won a gold medal at GABF, which is the great American beer festival So this is a killer fucking beer and to be able to just walk down to one of my favorite breweries and grab it For you know, like $11 is yeah pretty awesome.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: So yeah, we're gonna take a sip For a can of beer, yeah, yeah for a can of beer

Austin - Frightmares: $11 for a beer. Oh my God.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It gets stupid. There's a brewery up here. I was actually talking shit on their Instagram page. They dropped two 12 ounce bottles of beer, $64 for both of them.

Austin - Frightmares: Golly.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They can suck a dick. Those dudes. That's voodoo. Voodoo. In case you're wondering, I don't care. I'm going out. I'm burning bridges this episode because it's just going to be out in the ether and I don't really give a hell. Um, all right. So what we're going to start off with beer of the year. Uh, so of course in, uh, in, in award show fashion, um, we're going to leave it off with, with our favorite new, whatever the fuck thing I found ah from last year.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Alright now nominees for the beer of the year this past year These are all beers that I drank on the podcast and I didn't write all of them down for whatever reason I don't know if it's because I was recording too far in advance on some weeks or it was just like Parenthood just kicking my ass. I don't know things happen Uh, but we had, uh, earlier this year, I actually believe this was the one year anniversary. We had double toasted barrel. Bourbon County, we had Helicons, uh, famous Hellas Lager. That is my favorite beer in the city. Uh, we had creepy lustre from dancing them. We had some Coors Banquet, uh, Hams as always, and PBR. And the winner is Helicons Hellas Lager. Love those guys. Love what they do.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Always a fan of Helicon. Definitely want to show those guys some love. All right, now on to some movie categories. Austin, why don't you lead off with worst movie of the year?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: What are your nominees? Let's do this.

Austin - Frightmares: All right, so these ah Probably going to be three movies that no one's ever fucking heard of because I watched so many horror movies this year. Um, the, so I'm just, yeah I'm just going to do them out of order. So that way there's no, there's no way to know which one I'm going to say is the worst one. So I have three, obviously I have one called cryptids, which was an anthology from this year.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm.

Austin - Frightmares: It was, it was, you know, anthologies need to have some sort of, you know, binding element to them all, but it was just so chaotic.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm.

Austin - Frightmares: Uh, Joe Bob Briggs could not even save that movie. And then we have bloodline killer, which was your average basic boring slasher movie. Um, just a slog.

Austin - Frightmares: You know what I mean? It was like an hour and 48 minutes, just too fucking long. Shawnee Smith was in it and she was great, but just like Joe Bob, she couldn't save that movie. And then we have Larry Fessenden's blackout.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm.

Austin - Frightmares: It is a werewolf movie that ah was... It's the only movie this year and in quite some time that has actively made me angry watching it. It takes a lot to anger me with a movie because I look for the good in everything. where There was nothing good about this movie.

Austin - Frightmares: the werewolf sucked and then at the end of the movie you see a different werewolf and that design was amazing and i was like we just got screwed out of of such a great werewolf design for an entire i was so angry with that movie so those are my three worst of the year and the winner for worst movie of the year is going to be blackout because like i said maybe

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm -hmm. And the winner is... Blackout, everybody. So definitely don't watch it. Or as your buddy says, you'll probably hate it.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, you'll probably hate it. And honestly, and it's crazy because it has decent ratings. It's got like a two nine out of 2 .9 out of five on letterboxed, which is a solid rating, but yeah, it not for me.

Austin - Frightmares: Even Gabby felt the same way. We both gave it one out of five stars. Just. Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mmm, just not a fan, huh?

Austin - Frightmares: Not a good time. Now. Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Two quick things. One, I forgot to hit the award intro for your award thingy. So I owe you one on that one.

Austin - Frightmares: yeah fine

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I'll double up on your next one.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Two, the first beer that I had I chugged because it tastes like cat pee. I was not a big fan. ah this this This beer is very good.

Austin - Frightmares: Wow.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: They're this Firefest Reserve. If you're in the Pittsburgh area, go try it. It is fucking lights out so good. Okay, ah moving on to my worst movie of the year nominees.

Austin - Frightmares: Nice.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I got a lot of fucking flack for my first nominee, Jeepers Creepers. ah That just, I could not, I couldn't get into it, wasn't a big fan, i didn't and I remember liking it as a kid, and I don't know if I just like, I don't know if it's just looking through a different lens, like I've said multiple times on this podcast, I'm just, I don't know, I just didn't, I didn't care for it at fucking all, I thought it was really dumb. ah Baskin, right, the Turkish horror from what year was that even made, I don't even know, like 20,

Austin - Frightmares: Did I miss that episode? What the fuck?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah, I did Baskin earlier this year.

Austin - Frightmares: I don't remember. Yeah, I know. I i got scott i guess I got to go. Oh no, I didn't listen to it because I hadn't watched it yet. That's why. Okay. I still need to watch it.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Have you seen Baskin?

Austin - Frightmares: I started it and got like 45 minutes in and then passed out and then never went back to it. Uh, so yeah, I got a

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: it's

Austin - Frightmares: I remember, I remember you talking about how you were enjoying it and then what, what, yeah then it just fell off at the end or something.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Okay, it's really fucking weird. There's some cool effects. There's cool things to pull from the movie. Like, there's some really gnarly practical effects. They're really, really good.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Like, really awesome. There's creepy creatures in there. But the storyline's kind of fucking weird. ah and And I don't get, like, the main ah antagonist.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: it's just It's just a weird movie. it's It's kind of hard to follow. And it's in Turkish. And and it's it's just a hard movie to kind of get into. And like I said, practical effects aside, ah yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: okay

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It was not like my favorite movie the year, obviously. Cabin Fever, another one from this year.

Austin - Frightmares: Okay.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: We watched this early on Eli Roth's deb directorial debut, I believe. um And it just felt like the dialogue was written by a 13 -year -old kid going through puberty. It was just really hard to fucking follow along with, and it's just a lot of like...

Austin - Frightmares: yeah

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: you know, f -bombs getting dropped in and in a derogatory manner and it's like, come on, man, you can do better than this.

Austin - Frightmares: That's fair.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It's just lazy.

Austin - Frightmares: That's fair.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um get And he even makes a a cameo appearance as like the shitty stoner dude or whatever. um Good practical effects, you know, ah and and it definitely made me think twice about like doing some things with the girl after that one scene in the bed.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Oh, dude, I was so fucking dorked out about that when I watched it for the first time.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: But ah yeah, it it was just, I don't know, it's just the dialogue and it's kind of messy and in and I don't know, I wasn't a huge fan. um And then a new movie from this year as a nominee in a violent nature. ah This movie had so much hype, it had so much potential and it just fucking fell short ah in my opinion. I thought they could have done a lot more with it. I liked the concept, I liked the point of view shots and everything following him along.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: the entire time. I like the opening scene where you watch him actually be unearthed, you know, from them taking the little talisman or whatever the hell it was. um We're going to talk about this movie later on ah for obvious reasons. But ah yeah, it's just it. I don't know. I just I thought that they could have done done a lot more did not like the ending. I think I don't think I'm alone in that one. um But yeah, that's that's about it. So any thoughts on any of those movies?

Austin - Frightmares: I mean, I'm surprised to see in a violent nature on worst of the year, but I mean, like, hey, it's um what am I going to do? Try to sit here and convince you why I like it? No, it doesn't make sense. I'm just I'm actually I'm just surprised to see that one on there.

Austin - Frightmares: And I mean, Jeepers Creepers is something like so it's it's I think I kind of compare it to the ring for my wife. At least she didn't see the ring when she was a kid. She saw it when she was an adult and.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: You know like i i still think it's scary but i mean that might be because i saw it at a young age so she's kind of whatever about the ring i think it's one of the most terrifying movies ever made so it could be something like that where you didn't cuz i watch deeper screamers as a kid as well. And that was kinda you know that was before i really got into horror movies and i was like who this is creepy as shit and. Terrible shitty director aside cuz he's a garbage person i do enjoy that movie ah but yeah that that one is.

Austin - Frightmares: You know, that one is kind of like a hit or miss with people. You know what I mean? And then cabin fever, same thing. All of your choices to me make sense, except for in a violent nature. I'm like, cause I really enjoyed that one, but all the other ones I like totally understand because yeah, those were kind of divisive movies.

Austin - Frightmares: You know what I mean?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: But I mean, so was in a violent nature.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah, you would have. Right. You would have put long legs on there instead of in a violent nature.

Austin - Frightmares: No, definitely not.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: and when it All right.

Austin - Frightmares: Definitely not. I saw way worse movies than that. No, I definitely, like I said, I enjoyed it much better the second time and it it could probably go up if I, if I continue to rewatch. Uh, but that definitely, what yeah, it definitely wouldn't be a worse of the year, not by a long shot.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: All right. So our winner or loser of worst movie of the year is Jeepers creepers.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: dumb fuckin' movie. Dumb movie, dumb creature, dumb everything. Not enough practical effects, not enough cool shit happening on the screen. Just, whoops, I hit the wrong button there. um I hit the loop so it would have just kept clapping the entire fuckin' episode.

Austin - Frightmares: We'll just sit here all night. It's fine.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Hopefully they can hear me over the fucking what I'm talking. If not, is this going to be like?

Austin - Frightmares: I can.

Austin - Frightmares: or wont want walk

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: All right, we're going to jump in a spoiler section. Now, these are things that are going to reveal a lot about the movies we have seen this year. We're going to talk about them a little more in depth um and whatnot about everything.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: So, yeah, we're going to jump into spoilers. If you haven't seen any of the movies that you don't know we're good about to talk about, ah that's your problem. But go back and listen to every single episode ah that I have watched this year and then nothing will be ruined for you.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: We'll see you on the other side.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: That's right. It's spoiler time. And it's the last time I get to use that motherfucking drop. I love that drop. Oh, so cool.

Austin - Frightmares: That's your real i love that one that's so good Yeah, I'm gonna have to do that for for some for some sounds for sure

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Dude, you got to go to audio jungle. You got to look stuff up on there. There's some really cool thing, like literally a dollar that cost me a dollar to make.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: They're all like independent, uh, like artists or whatever. And they just make stuff and they just put sound effects up there and you can just one dollar. Here you go. Yep. And then you can just use it for your podcast for whatever.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Um, All right, anyway, so we're going to move on to you good for fear of the year. Do you want to, is that a category sound good to you?

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: All right. Well, uh, from the worst of the year.

Austin - Frightmares: So I have a question though, before we move on, was your, war so were your worst nominations on the movies that you reviewed for the podcast? Was that the, was that what you chose from?

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah. Was that, were those all movies you had reviewed on the podcast?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yep.

Austin - Frightmares: Damn it. I should have done that son of a bitch.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Ah. what do you want to change it you still can we can go back gotcha do you have any honorable mentions this is a good time to get it out there

Austin - Frightmares: No, I just, I was just, uh, I just did work. So those all those movies that I, that were worst, uh, movie were just movies, new movies from this year, 2024. Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: All right, fine. Honorable mentions from what I've reviewed on the podcast. I can do that easily. ah One being Stay Alive from 2006. That movie sucked a bag of asses. ah Trauma from 1993, directed by Dario Argento.

Austin - Frightmares: That movie is despicable. I don't recommend that one at all.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Hmm.

Austin - Frightmares: His daughter is in that movie and he ah convinced her to do a nude scene when she was underage.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Ooh.

Austin - Frightmares: Fucking gross. Don't even watch that movie. And then I'd probably say, who probably go with, unfortunately from Sam Raimi, it's called crime wave.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Ooh.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Hmm.

Austin - Frightmares: It was just a goofy, silly movie that didn't make sense. So those would be my honorable mentions. And then worse from that one would be trauma by Dario Argento. Not a fan. Continue. Sorry.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: dario Dario or Junto, as it's known in your realm.

Austin - Frightmares: ah new heart

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: is We're having fun on this episode. I don't care. it's fucking Let's go. Yeah. So he he fucked up and showing off his ah underage new daughter. What a fucking weirdo.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Why would you do that?

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, it's gross.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Come on, baby.

Austin - Frightmares: It's gross.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Do it for the camera. think oh What the fuck?

Austin - Frightmares: I mean, I know it's, it's, I think there's different rules over in Italy and stuff like that, but still it's, it's still your, she was like 16 or 17. That's gross, dude. but Yeah, it's, it's, it's gross that you're, yeah, seriously, right.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: what's the bare minimum I can get away with here. like We're bumping filming to next week.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah. It's like, how close were you to being like legal? Cause that's gross.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: ah all right

Austin - Frightmares: All right.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um Fear of the year. so Austin, you're going to lead us off if you don't mind. yeah Your nominees for fear of the year.

Austin - Frightmares: her.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I'm going to hit you with your cue though.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Didn't want to rob you twice.

Austin - Frightmares: So ah these are all from this year just because that's kind of the theme I did ah was all from this year because it would be I would be hard to go back and figure out fear of the year from the movies I reviewed. I have a list of all the movies I reviewed on the podcast. That's why that was so easy to crank out. But for this year, I have three in an honorable mention.

Austin - Frightmares: I just don't know which one should be the honorable mention because two are these crazy jump scares. ah The first one I have is from Smile 2. It's kind of hard to describe, but there's a scene where Sky Riley is in her apartment. I think she wakes up from something and it's that scene where All of these people are in her apartment just staring at her and she gets up and moves and then she's, and then she's going down the hall and they're all, Oh my God.

Austin - Frightmares: And then when she gets into the living room, they're all just standing there and then they jump on top of her. fucking Holy hell.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Really?

Austin - Frightmares: That's weird. Oh, dude, that scared the piss out of me.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Oh, dude, I laughed at that scene. It's great. Normally, we see eye to eye on so many things. I called that the West Side Story scene because it just felt like there they were like, well you know, like a bunch of dancers and everything. And I was like, this is this does nothing for me.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: The other scene where she's in the hallway where she sees the the trailer close and the dude standing there, that one oh that one got that that that one got me.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh, another guy. Oh, that one was good.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: But yeah, that one just didn't get it. for That was part of what maybe I was already checking out at that moment. but um

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: that For some reason, just the way, just because they had the smiles on their faces and they're dancing around.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Okay.

Austin - Frightmares: I'm like, this is, made it's like uncanny valley. I'm like, I don't, I don't like this one. um And then even another great one was the, uh, the jump scare when she was in bed with that chick.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Gemma.

Austin - Frightmares: I can't remember her name and the chick opens her mouth and it's yeah. And like her fucking eyes light up in the horn honks. God damn, that movie was woo.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Such a, yeah, such a cool scene. That reminded me of ah Dead Alive. Do you remember when that chick gets her head shoved onto the light socket and she's just standing there?

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: That's what it reminded me of.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah. there That smile too. I had some, had some really good ones. Uh, so that's, i'll I'll say that as my honorable mention.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: who

Austin - Frightmares: and Um, and then the three nominees would be, there's a jump scare and alien Romulus towards the end of the movie where the, I can't remember the alien's name, but the main alien at the end, he, you're like looking at the spec of the spaceship and then he just out of nowhere right up to the camera and there's a huge like music swell.

Austin - Frightmares: Me and Gabby were in yeah me and gabby were in the theaters and both like grabbed each other.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Boom. Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: We're like, holy shit. Because it was loud, you know what I mean?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Those are great. Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: um And then from the movie Mads, which is a French horror film from this year, there is this and this is like a probably not scary to most people. It's something that's probably only scary to me.

Austin - Frightmares: But there's a scene where this girl is on a Vespa driving away from her friend who's clearly fucking delusional and turning into a zombie. And as she's zipping away on the Vespa, you can hear her start to laugh and giggle.

Austin - Frightmares: And then you can hear footsteps like she's running towards her and she's screaming her name and screaming her name. So she starts chasing her at full speed and she's pretty close to the Vespa. And then at one point she like supernaturally just spins and like flies down this alleyway.

Austin - Frightmares: That's like a huge fear of mine is when I ride my bike around the neighborhood, my intrusive thoughts are like, what if there's someone running behind you to attack you? I don't know why.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Oh, yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: So I saw that in, yeah, I saw that in the movie. I'm like, that's my fucking irrational fear. And I was like, Oh, so that one really got me. And then the last one is the jump scare and oddity when she's in the tent and that guy's face hole.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: That's a good one.

Austin - Frightmares: Cause there's no music at all. It, she just pops in. There's no like didn an a nothing just ble you're like, Oh, and it's that white, creepy mask.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: i yeah Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: So those are my nominees in my, uh, in my, uh, uh,

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yep.

Austin - Frightmares: Fucking honorable mention and the one for me that wins is the Vespa scene from Mads Yeah, absolutely not pass on that Let's go

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Vespa wins.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Well deserved, well deserved, cool. Yeah, dude, I have so many, ah I have like, Jesus Christ, I have to look, I have so many nominees. I have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine nominees for this fear of the year.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Well, I just wanted to toss some things out there. I don't know how I was gonna go.

Austin - Frightmares: Let's go.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Okay, so we're leading off, we have two. from hereditary, right? Because I reviewed that for the one year episode. So I mean, I reviewed a lot of crazy movies this year. So I have a lot of ammunition. um The hereditary the the the mom's jump scare, right, where she's hiding in plain sight in frame, and then she makes that jump.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: that's maybe the best jump scare, I think, of all time. ah Because it's it's so it's just right there. It's in plain sight. and And you don't even see it until you see it. It's just one of those things I think it's so cleverly done so cleverly shot. um Really, really awesome. jump scare there. ah Later in the movie, that really unsettling sound that you don't know what's happening When he's in the attic and then you see mom sawing her fucking head off just back and forth back and forth. Super unsettling and you just keep hearing and she was faster and faster than you hear the plop and everything like oh just just a rough scene. um right so There's two from there.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: ah movie from this year we we talked about on your podcast a little bit uh infested uh that scene in the hallway with the spiders and all that stuff just i mean i don't care how brave you are against spiders man that's gonna get under anybody's skin that that movie was so cleverly done again just very fun taps into those just like i don't really want a spider in my towel when i get out of the shower right like and they time they timed those jump scares so fucking well they built the suspense in every one of those so so well

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: No.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um Really, really enjoyed that movie. ah We did the Conjuring earlier this year, the hide and clap scene, where mom is right, mom's playing the game, and then she realizes that she's chasing a ghost in the closet.

Austin - Frightmares: and

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um Very good setup there by James Wan. We have the sinister lawnmower scene, right? When he's, that's right, such a good fucking jump scare there.

Austin - Frightmares: and local.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: ah You're just following along, you know something bad's gonna happen, because you've already seen the other fucking home movies, and you know it's not gonna end well. and that thing just pops out of nowhere that sound it just cuts through scares the shit out of you and then you know the lawnmower runs the person over or whatever it's just a just a really well done scene yeah you know

Austin - Frightmares: That I think, I think that's probably, I don't, I don't think it's necessarily, uh, so I think it's a great jump scare. I don't know if it's necessarily my favorite of all time, but i' it's definitely like a top 10 jump scare, but i I definitely think it's the most shocking jump scare.

Austin - Frightmares: Easily like ever. That is one of the most like shocking jump scares I've ever seen in my life. you I was, I was never prepared for that. I'm still not prepared for it now.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: No.

Austin - Frightmares: Every time I know it's coming, but I don't remember exactly when, and then it happens. I'm like, fuck that's still, that's still so effective. One of the greatest.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yep. Yep, really, really well done by one of the more underrated horror directors that we have talked about before.

Austin - Frightmares: yeah yeah

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Satan Slaves, another favorite of ours and you interviewed the the director not too long ago in your podcast. um The radio scene with with the bell where he's in bed and the radio starts kind of fucking up and then she pops up on the bed right next to him in bed and like, oh dude, that scene, that whole movie is so creepy and so unsettling.

Austin - Frightmares: and

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Like in in the fact that it was made for like $18 or whatever the hell it was was just like insane.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um Such a good movie.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Okay, we got two more. um The Dark and the Wicked. The Bed Demon scene where she's laying in bed and something crawls in and it sounds heavy and beast -like.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: and she doesn't look right they don't show what it is and that's just like that just make you know your mind starts racing what the fuck is this thing is she gonna look when are you gonna look why don't you look like that whole building aspect is just so awesome um really like that one as well and then um mama which is one of my all -time favorite horror movies um any scene with mama in it she is such a good and underrated character um her scene with her being under the bed um well I can't remember who the who the ah what the characters named the yeah Abigail I think I want to say is her name do you remember no not the kids but that when they're there Jessica Chastain but her character yet Annabelle okay not Abigail wrong one um yeah so yeah

Austin - Frightmares: The kids? Oh, Jessica Chastain? Yeah, her name's and ah her name's Annabelle on that. No. Close, I mean, you had the A and the L right. You were you were right you were right there.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: right somewhere in that area right. ah But yeah, just that that whole scene where she's like having a dream and mama's like coming through the bottom of the mattress just that monster under the bed fear. ah The scene where you find out that mama's in the house where they're playing tug of war, you know, and you just see the little girl fall over and you see that there's another entity there and you see Victoria come and you're like, Oh, shit.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: You know, it just there's somebody really well done scares in that movie and There's a great jump scare there too Like you were talking about the Romulus where she's standing there and then at the you know, really quick attack at the screen um You know, that was just such a well done movie.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I think it really deserves more credit I think it's it's the ending that kind of kills it for a lot of people because it gets a little a little weird there with ah with her death or whatever um but

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, for sure. But I have to shout out Javier a Botet or Botet.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um

Austin - Frightmares: He plays Mama. He plays a lot of a lot of like he's like Doug Jones. He plays a lot of big, tall, gangly characters. So I just wanted to shout him out because he's an incredible person that most people wouldn't recognize because he's always gussied up in some horrific, you know, makeup.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: You're always so grotesque.

Austin - Frightmares: Right. Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: God.

Austin - Frightmares: How? Oh, my God, guy.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: All right. Um, and our winner is the hereditary mom jump scare. Um, I just think, like I said, that's an all -timer right there.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: didn't really have a runner up. um All right, we're gonna move on to some more fun. We only got three categories left and then you know we'll we'll send you on your way. um We're gonna move on to kill of the year.

Austin - Frightmares: Mm hmm.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: So Austin, ah feel free to toss in anything from this year that you have reviewed also like you did in the last one, but ah go ahead off with your kill of the year after your intro.

Austin - Frightmares: All right. So I have three that are from this year and I'm going to, I'm going to do three on the fly because I'm scrolling through my, uh, what I've watched this year for the podcast. So I'll do three and three real quick here. Um, let's see. So for this year, kill of the year, we've got the shotgun kill in Maxine, which is like the final kill.

Austin - Frightmares: where Maxine has her father up on the Hollywood Hills and you, it cuts like the movie stops and you're like, we're not going to get that seriously. And then the movie cuts back and she blows his fucking head off. That was the most satisfying fucking kill because I, they teased it so bad. Like we weren't going to get it. And then they actually do show it in all of its full graphic glory. So that one had to be on there. Um,

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Oh, yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: The what I'm dubbing snowman kill from Terrifier 3 where he freezes that guy and sticks a carrot in his nose. Yeah. That was, that was, I think that was like, don't get me wrong.

Austin - Frightmares: Shower scene, fucking great. Love the gore and the blood.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: So good.

Austin - Frightmares: but I think, I think that one is like more, ah just that one's just more creative and fun. And you could tell that art was just having a blast with that one. So I think that's my favorite kill from that movie.

Austin - Frightmares: Um, and then we have, you can't, I can't not mention it. You know, you got the yoga kill from end of violent nature.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: no

Austin - Frightmares: One of the most creative kills I have ever seen to date. It is. It's literally, it's just so creative and the noises that you hear are like, are just noises that you just shouldn't hear.

Austin - Frightmares: They're just like so gross and undulating and black.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Oh no, we lost you. Please come back internet.

Austin - Frightmares: So those are three from this year.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Why does it do this every time?

Austin - Frightmares: Now for movies I reviewed on the podcast, we're going to go. Uh -oh. did i lose oh no

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah, we had, we had a little glitch. Um, I'm not sure what got picked up, but I stopped. Uh, I didn't hear everything you said about the yoga kill.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh yeah. So the yoga kill from end of violent nature. I think it's one of the most creative kills that I've literally ever seen.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm -hmm.

Austin - Frightmares: Uh, the noises you hear from it, like undulating gross intestines. And it's just, it was so well done.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Uh -huh.

Austin - Frightmares: And like I've like, again, something like I've never seen before. So for this year, we're going to go, some movies I've reviewed on the podcast, we're going to go with a little Halloween 2007 action.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm -hmm.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm.

Austin - Frightmares: and it's not really necessarily it's not really necessarily a I mean it's not one kill it's like five kills but it's the when Michael Myers escapes and he gooshes like five or six guards I mean in the matter in a matter of like two three minutes I mean it was fucking crazy that's one of my favorite kills um let's see here oh drag me to hell the when she gets dragged to hell one of the greatest kills of of horses

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Such a curve ball ending.

Austin - Frightmares: and ah

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Phew.

Austin - Frightmares: So good.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yup.

Austin - Frightmares: I love that one.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: You thought she got away. You thought she got away and then nope.

Austin - Frightmares: And then yeah, and then nope, yeah you didn't.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: You're back.

Austin - Frightmares: ah So that one's fucking great. And then I'm gonna have to go with, I think I'm gonna go with one from Green Room.

Austin - Frightmares: I'm just trying to think of which one I wanna go with. Probably the Rottweiler attacking the guy's neck because I don't wanna go like that at all.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: The blog. Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: So those are, yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Now that would be brutal. Trying to get S in the whole time. youre just Good puppy.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, please just stop. And of course, I mean, if it's not a apparent by now, it's it's the yoga kill from In a Violent Nature. that's That's the winner for me.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yoga kill.

Austin - Frightmares: Where's your sound?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah, man. That's going to be on a lot of lists. Are you still there?

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, where's your sound? Where's the clapping?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I'm here. I'm sorry. I just did it.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh, did you do the clapping? I didn't hear the clapping. Okay, I'm sorry.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah, it went through at least.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh, I didn't hear the clapping on my end. Yes, the clapping. Yeah. Uh, yeah. So it's just, it's just so creative.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah, it's my dog shit internet over here. Fuck Elon Musk.

Austin - Frightmares: Not damn Elon Musk.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Fuck Elon Musk, bitch. Fuckin' douchebag.

Austin - Frightmares: ah

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: All right, onto Kill of the Year nominees for myself.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: This is a totally unhinged episode. This is the least like professional one to do. It's the last one. We're just fucking... I don't even care anymore. Whatever. it's just um Let's just go, man. All right. Kill of the Year no nominees. ah The Coffee Table Kill. You know how much I love this movie. And you kind of knew something bad was going to happen. You just didn't know to what extent.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: And when you find out that the fucking baby got killed because he tripped and fell through the glass table and us as new parents, Jesus Christ, it just hit fucking home in a whole different manner ah than any other movie I had i had ever seen.

Austin - Frightmares: yeah

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Um, in a violent nature, you you covered it perfectly. Um, it was just, that was the redeeming quality from that movie. There was another decent killed there. I get, he'd be like pulled the, um, like the machete through the dude's face, which was pretty cool.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: If I remember correctly, and then he uses his body to break into like that scouts fucking shelter thing. Uh, that was, that was funny.

Austin - Frightmares: and Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Um, but, but that kill, it just kept going. You're like, is he done with her yet? Nope. He's going to pull her fucking head through the hole in her stomach. Oh my God.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh my.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Oh my God.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Oh, it just kept going.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah. That was, I mean, that, like you said, that's like the most creative kill I have seen in fucking years.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: So I'm curious to see who's going to top that because not even what happened in Terrifier did that for me.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Uh, the sadness, we will cover that this year, the grenade kill. That was just such a fun curve ball. Uh, they're sitting in that hospital and they're hoping that, you know, to get some kind of security and and safety and something from the government and they're watching and they watch like the head of state or whatever head or defense.

Austin - Frightmares: okay but

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: cut the fucking, uh, the pan out of the fucking grenade and shove it into the, uh, president's face and then it blows up on live TV. Just such a fucking, uh, awesome way to go.

Austin - Frightmares: I

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: And, uh, really squashes everybody's hope. That was a gnarly fucking movie.

Austin - Frightmares: think.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: So, so good.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh, do you?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Um.

Austin - Frightmares: That one is not for the faint of heart. You got to be a pretty hardcore horror fan to get through that one.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Uh -huh. Uh -huh.

Austin - Frightmares: Even I was like, oh, man, fuck.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I saw some dude on on the horror movie attics or one of the pages and he said, uh, Terrifier was too much. It was too gory for me. Should I watch the sadness?

Austin - Frightmares: No.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: and Like, but it was like five hours later. So I'm assuming he had already watched it by then. I didn't even comment. it

Austin - Frightmares: ah it's Too late, John. Too late.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: ah late the Terrifier chainsaw scene the fucking shower scene with the fucking balls getting chopped up with the fucking chainsaw like it was a very it just kept going again it just my god it just kept going and God just art the clown man that dude of course he's gonna be on the kill of the year list um next we have American Psycho another chainsaw scene

Austin - Frightmares: There you go. Yeah, that just didn't stop.

Austin - Frightmares: Mm hmm.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: where Patrick Bateman's just falling her down the stairs and drops it. Perfect timing. Takes her out on the bottom level. Such a cool fucking kill. I love that movie. i'm curious What do you think about Austin Butler being cast as Patrick Bateman for the remake?

Austin - Frightmares: like It just seems like a weird, like, you know, I'm not going to sit here and say he's going to do his shit job because I haven't seen his performance yet. I just think it's odd. You know, I'm not going to sit here and judge something before it happens, but I i do feel like it's a very odd choice.

Austin - Frightmares: It doesn't seem to fit in my opinion, but I mean, who knows? You know, everyone wasn't really nervous about Heath Ledger and the Joker and look at that performance. Now I'm not saying it's going to compare to that, but um'm it's a comparison of like, you know, people were worried about him in that role and he crushed it.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Right. Right.

Austin - Frightmares: so Who knows? He could all surprise us. It just it just seems odd. It seems very like a very odd choice.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I liked him in Elvis. I actually really liked that movie a lot more than I thought I was going to.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Um, who would you have cast differently? Like who would, who would you have put in that role?

Austin - Frightmares: As Patrick Bateman?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Uh -huh.

Austin - Frightmares: ah Um, so this is probably, uh, like it's not an odd choice, but it makes sense to me when you think about it, because this person is good at playing, is good at manic energy.

Austin - Frightmares: Uh, if you know Glenn Howerton from it's always sunny in Philadelphia who plays, um, oh my God.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yes. Yes.

Austin - Frightmares: Uh, Dennis Reynolds.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Dennis Reynolds, who's basically Patrick Bateman, just poor.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah. i That's what I'm saying. Like his, den his dentist system is maniacal. Like I think he would do a great job at playing that crazy person who's also very attractive.

Austin - Frightmares: Uh, I think he would, would absolutely crush that role, but I don't, you know, I just, he doesn't, it' it's always Sunday.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Right.

Austin - Frightmares: Philadelphia has probably consumed his life so much at this point. He doesn't really have time for other movies, but I think he would do incredible in that, in that role, to be honest.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: right

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: yeah i don't think you're wrong and then he got his face blown off and the strangers that was always kind of cool um you just go hang out dead in the hallway

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, I always forget he's in that movie until he shows up and I'm like, Dennis, what the fuck? What are you doing here, you crazy bastard? You're gone.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Alright, the collector, we covered that a few weeks ago, the bear trap scene.

Austin - Frightmares: oh

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I fucking love when that dude just gets spartan kicked into a room of animal traps.

Austin - Frightmares: Smart.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Basically, right? It just like slowly clamps down on him.

Austin - Frightmares: You're right. Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Oh god, so fucking awesome.

Austin - Frightmares: Still good.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: What a rough way to go. um And then lastly...

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah. Cause you're not going to die instantly. you're If you, if you die, it's going to be very slow.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Bang! Bang! Bang!

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: You just hear it all happening. Ugh.

Austin - Frightmares: oh oh

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um last but not least this was a really um a rough really raw uh opening here mid summer the sister when she kills the entire family in the beginning of the movie with the car exhaust and Florence, my god, she deserved some sort of award for her acting and her portrayal of trauma in that fucking moment. Because that was such a really, it was a real moment. That's what it felt like it it felt like you're watching somebody actually having to deal with with, you know, the consequences of something like that.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um And it's just, ah you know, it's just that movie is not for everybody. I can see why it's a little out there. It's a little weird. There were some cool things. There were some really not cool things. But ah if you're in the right mindset, that movie is definitely worth checking out and you won't know that mindset until you start watching it, I guess.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, that's true. Yeah. the The grief and trauma, the grief and trauma in that movie is insane. And Florence Pugh does such a good job at expressing the grief and trauma that she goes through. And honestly, that's one of the like coldest intros to a movie like that.

Austin - Frightmares: That shit's dark.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm hmm. Mm hmm.

Austin - Frightmares: I remember sitting, I saw that in theaters and I remember looking at Gabby and I was like, Oh my God. It's like, what are we getting into at this point?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah. If you have experienced loss on on a level like similar to that, if you've lost ah a parent, sister, brother, like close loved one, gri whatever, and you see her do that, you're like, Yep, I was there.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I was there. I was there. um So it just takes you back.

Austin - Frightmares: but When she was crying, like, Oh dude.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Oh, yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah. When she was crying on Christian's lap, just like, no, no, no. I'm like, Oh my God. I was like, dude, it give it gives gives me goosebumps right now. Just thinking about it. Like, God, this shit is so visceral and real Florence.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah, man, like how do you how do you get there?

Austin - Frightmares: Why do you tap into that?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Oh, yeah Seriously, um well You know, what we're gonna double up we're gonna double it's gonna be the yoga kill the it just it just has to be you know um We gave

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah. Holy.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: We gave the Creed, you know, the, ah what the fucking, what's the word I'm looking for here, Austin? Creed, that's not Creedence, that's not the word I'm looking for.

Austin - Frightmares: created We gave Credence Clearwater Revival.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Creedence, Creedence.

Austin - Frightmares: ah

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: We gave it CCR, we gave CCR to all the other ones. So, on to the next one.

Austin - Frightmares: um On the next one.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: All right. We're going to do best new movies. So it's movies, like you said, released, uh, either in our market in 2024, uh, or that, uh, whatever, if it was, you know, available on streaming or whatever it was this past year.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: So Austin, without further ado, it stopped.

Austin - Frightmares: You'll have to let me know when it stopped because I can't hear it. Okay. Sorry.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah. Wow.

Austin - Frightmares: Uh, okay.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I was wondering, good, good timing though.

Austin - Frightmares: Good. Uh, where the fuck is my list? Okay. Okay. Okay. So how many do you want me to cause I mean, i I can, I don't want to do 10, but I have, you know, I have a top 10. Do you want me to do like five or something?

Austin - Frightmares: Five, five, five mentions?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I literally don't care. You're the one with the timetable here.

Austin - Frightmares: All right, let's do it. I'll do five movies that I think are, I mean, i like I said, my top 10 is pretty fucking crazy. Uh, cause everything in my top 10 is four and a half or five stars. So I'll do five, I'll do five and down. So number one, we're going to go with a Netflix movie called it's what's inside.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm.

Austin - Frightmares: Absolutely insane premise. um it's It's unlike anything I've ever seen. It's it's a body swap movie. It's a whodunit. It's a psychological fantasy. like It's crazy. It's one of the greatest movies ah that i that I've like ever seen, not even just this year. It's it's so unique and original. um If you haven't heard of it, go watch it. It's on Netflix. Go watch it right now.

Austin - Frightmares: um Number two is going to be Strange Darling, which is another just wildly put together movie. It's told out of order and there's six chapters or something like that or six segments that they do completely out of line, non -linear. I don't even want to say too much about what it's a like, what it's about, but it's got Kyle Galner and Willa Fitzgerald in it, and they are fucking incredible.

Austin - Frightmares: um let's see here another one would be exuma uh which is an which is a korean horror movie i think let me double check here yeah south korean um this one it was very good i did give it five stars it was a little hard to digest because there's a lot of lore that goes into it and a lot of story. It's like two and a half hours to worth it, but it's, it's kind of, you know, it's not something you got to sit down and be like ready to pay attention or else you're going to miss something. But still, it's one of the most unique movies I've seen as well. Uh, then we have grave torture. Another.

Austin - Frightmares: Or in horror movie and that's not just because I had him on my podcast this year. It really isn't he actually Within pedigore back in 2020. I believe let me verify that yeah and pedigore was my number one of 2020 so I'm just I'm just a big fan of joko And that's why it was I was over the moon to have him on because he's literally my favorite foreign director Great torture is great Just like Exuma, a lot of good lore, a lot of good story.

Austin - Frightmares: This one's a little bit shorter at an hour 57. And then last but not least, a what?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Also, real quick, how did that washer kill not make your list?

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: So I, yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: That was fucking original.

Austin - Frightmares: No, it was original and it's not, I don't know. I don't know. I don't like, I thought about putting it on there and then I did, I did my three. Cause I was like, I'm going to do three. Cause you mentioned doing three. And then when I was making some up on the fly, I forgot about the washer one until, uh, until just now, but yeah, honorable mention for that for sure.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: So good.

Austin - Frightmares: Washer top notch face ripoff.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It's so good.

Austin - Frightmares: ah Yeah, grave torture great and then that one's also that one's actually also on Netflix You can watch that one right now as well.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yep.

Austin - Frightmares: And then last but not least we have the substance ah because it was Like I said, these these five movies that I have are just some of the most unique movies that I've seen in quite some time They're all so tonally different from each other, but they're all so strong like, you know what I mean?

Austin - Frightmares: like great Like grave torture is a very good kind of psychological, what's real, what's not. The substance is just a wild fantastical movie. ah It's what's inside is almost kind of sci -fi fantasy as well.

Austin - Frightmares: Strange Darling is just like a fucking tale. you know It's just like what happened in a night. And then Exuma is a whole ah whole lore dump.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: yeah

Austin - Frightmares: So it's like they're so, it's a very interesting year for horror movies.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: The back half of the year definitely seemed to be a little bit better in my opinion. So those are my five. that I'll mention for the year and my number, my my my favorite of the year is going to go to grave torture.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yay. Yoko. Yoko gets his flowers.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, man.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: awesome awesome yeah i love that dude satan slaves so good satan slaves to the communion also good i have to re -watch um impetigour i did watch that but that's before i kind of had like an appreciation for foreign and horror um so it deserves a re -watch for sure

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, that one's that one. That's the first one I saw by him. And I was like, man, just the shots of the forest and all the lore that goes into it. It's so scary. Oh, my God.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm hmm.

Austin - Frightmares: It's so scary.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: All right. Best new movie ah for myself. The nominees will be here very shortly.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I'll be honest, I'm really running out of ways to set that up. um I'm like, I don't fucking know. Here's the button.

Austin - Frightmares: And the nominees are.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: bank um late night with the devil um as much as I you know kind of talked down on it on your podcast it's still I've only seen a handful of new movies this year so of course it's gonna get a mention but it had a really good potential cool idea just poorly executed on the back end

Austin - Frightmares: Ooh.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um Second one, nominee would be stop motion. i loved Loved the practical effects there, loved how creepy and unsettling it got as the movie went on. Loved the ending. Really enjoyable movie. Also, best new movie nominee. The only movie to be nominated for worst movie of the year. And best new movie in a violent nature.

Austin - Frightmares: Wait, wait, wait, wait, what's going on here?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: i just threw

Austin - Frightmares: Wait a second.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It's just it's just on the list because it was what I didn't know how many new movies I was gonna watch this year so it was just ah for is

Austin - Frightmares: yeah yeah Chaos.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: it's not it's not gonna win just so you know um yeah we talked about that movie already so um next nominee is abigail uh i do believe we need more creature features more fun movies like this they don't always have to be the scariest or whatever they can just be fun you can just have gore and witty humor and and cool action scenes and it can just be enjoyable for everybody

Austin - Frightmares: Chaos.

Austin - Frightmares: Ooh.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: ah Next is the coffee table. ah We're going to talk about this movie. This was with the surprise of the year for me. Honestly, I have never seen a movie like this. um Yeah, we're going to talk about it in the next segment. ah Long Legs. This was the most probably polarizing movie of the year. A lot of people hated this. A lot of people love this movie. um We were a little divisive here for a while, but you you came around a little bit. um I've backed off my overall loving of it.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um But it was just a fun ride, you know, I think if you dissect it too much, then you know, you're probably not going to enjoy it. Maybe it didn't make sense to to everybody, but I thought it was really well shot. Really beautiful um scenes, cool cinematography, cool score, everything was awesome. I just, I really yeah enjoyed that movie. Next nominee, Oddity, right? That was definitely one of the better movies of the year. You brought that up in your jumps, fear of the year.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um That was a really cool one. A fun, yeah heavily detailed movie. You had to pay attention to what was going on there, but it was worth it in the end because the the payoff was awesome. um And it's even better the second time around because you can pick up on even more details that you know really helps tie the movie together. Really smart film.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Next nominee, Terrifier 3. Fucking love the Terrifier franchise. You guys know this. We've talked about it before. We've had a guest on from ah the second movie. She was, you know, Swiss cheese titties, I think is what she's known as.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: ah Her name is Carrie. That's her self -proclaimed title. I did not say that.

Austin - Frightmares: ah wow

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: that's good She gets shot up in clown cafe. um But yeah, just, you know, art the the biggest budget he's had yet, it's a beautifully shot film. I thought, you know, you can really see the budget. um You get your money's worth there. And you also get your money's worth and in the practical special effects department. I mean, you know, Damien's always going to bring that. so um Yeah awesome movie as always.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Smile 2 is the last nominee for this category. um I enjoyed the first one more.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh, wow.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I thought the middle of this was a little kind of not as effective as the first one. I thought that they they kind of gave you a cue um or a trigger to expect when the smile was going to happen and I thought that kind of took away from the the effect of the smile.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: That was kind of what was fun about the first one is that you thought she was safe or you thought that she finally got through to somebody only to realize she was still Going mad and the winner for best new movie of the year oddity Yeah curveball there curveball, yeah, it's just a fun movie um Really enjoyable experience just just a fun swarm movie III enjoy clever in a movie You know if you can just pay attention and just you know, you got me, you know hooked the entire way.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I love that in a movie.

Austin - Frightmares: You're confusing me and now, John, because you gave me a different number one for your top 10 of the year on my podcast, John.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yep, yep. Well, because I didn't want to have it for both. So without further ado, we're going to move on to the final category, the best movie you have seen this year. This is any a year ah that it was released. It's the best movie you have watched this year. Austin.

Austin - Frightmares: Okay, so obviously I didn't pick any movies. I didn't pick any movies from 2024 just because i those were most of my picks already. I picked movies that I had only so i had seen for the first time this year.

Austin - Frightmares: but they're for many year. So that's what I'm going to go with. Uh, I'll do, I'll do five quickly here. So number coming in at number five, we have a movie called the brain from like 1988. I think it is a fun, wacky campy eighties movie with great practical effects.

Austin - Frightmares: We have a movie called Excision from 2011 or 2012. I'm not even gonna explain what it's about. It's impossible to explain. You just have to go watch it. It's a lot of wild fun. Then we have Overlord, which is a war horror movie from like 2018, I think. Solid time.

Austin - Frightmares: And we've got The Wailing. I believe that's a South Korean horror movie, much like Exuma.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm hmm.

Austin - Frightmares: That one's like two and a half hours. Crazy story. And then last but not least, we have The Tunnel, which is a 2010 found footage movie, an Australian found footage movie that involves going into the tunnels underneath Sydney and getting into a whole bunch of shenanigans.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: Very, as above, so below -esque. And my favorite of the year goes to The Wailing.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Wailing.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah. Um, yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Showing the foreign horror some love, man, I love that.

Austin - Frightmares: it it's It's like i I love, I don't know, it's just I love foreign horror so much for some reason. It's not like we can't make good horror movies here, but um I don't know what it is. I think it's probably the cultural barrier from us, you know, from like me in America to whoever's making it in a different country because it's lore and folklore I've never heard of.

Austin - Frightmares: It's fascinating.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: and Mmhmm.

Austin - Frightmares: um And they just like, I swear, South Korea, Japan, fucking Indonesia, they just know how to make

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mmhmm.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mmhmm.

Austin - Frightmares: good movies with a bunch of lore. They don't waste any time. Even if they're two and a half hours, all those minutes are not wasted. Like they just know how to fucking make movies. So yeah, a lot of love for the foreign horror this year.

Austin - Frightmares: The Wailing, it didn't get a full five stars because I was a little confused by the end because they're sometimes it's a little like information overload, but it'll probably easily be a five the next time I watch it.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: The Wailing is, whew, man, that movie's crazy. So that is what I have.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah. and I mean, a two and a half hour movie is hard enough to like pay attention to normally, let alone when you are like trying to like be involved with the, you know, the subtitles and everything for that long.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Um, and in that that's, that's kind of a catch 22 with, with, with those, you know, it's, it's part of the game. If you want to enjoy forward horror, you got to be okay with.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: that up. And I don't like the dubs. I know some people are are into that or whatever they have to have a dub, but it just doesn't line up because a lot of times the actors doing the dub can't capture what's happening on screen.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It's that whole Godzilla effect. do You know what I mean? Where it's just, you know, there's the delayed reaction or whatever.

Austin - Frightmares: yeah

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: And it's just not the same.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, they don't they don't capture the same emotional intensity and intensity that the actors on screen do. that you The dub is never but du is never the the same as the subversion.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Hmm.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah, no, definitely love some foreign horror and actually we have one. We have three nominees on my best movie of the year. So without further ado, here we go.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: All right, final category for our 2024 award show. ah Final episode, all that shit. um The nominees are Satan's Slaves, that's our first one. um We talked about that earlier. It's a really well done foreign horror if you guys can just deal with subtitles, suck it up you babies, it's not that bad. um If you enjoyed The Conjuring, ah this movie is is ah Taiwanese, right?

Austin - Frightmares: ah What, Satan's slaves?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Indonesian Indonesian, okay Indonesian Conjuring that's what it is.

Austin - Frightmares: Indonesian, yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It's it's it's a very similar vibe very similar feeling. It's very dark. It's ominous It's it's there's great jump scares very unsettling just gets under your skin creepiness um Great movie ah Second nominee, The Conjuring.

Austin - Frightmares: Okay.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: James, James wants, uh, you know, movie that kind of kicked off his entire fucking piggy bank.

Austin - Frightmares: a

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Uh, his, his, his cash cow, whatever you want to call it. Um, he's milking this motherfucker to death though. Like he's got how how many movies and shit coming out off of this one movie.

Austin - Frightmares: I know. I mean, he, he basically spot.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: I mean, I don't know if he, I don't think it was intentional, but I mean, his movie created an entire fucking universe. I think there's seven or eight movies now, at least, you know, at least a show is, is there, Oh, the conjuring show.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: yeah Right. And a show? Isn't there a show coming too? I thought I heard something about like, yeah, like the Warren files or something.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It's like a spinoff or something.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I thought I heard that.

Austin - Frightmares: I think I've heard something about that or it's in the making or it's being talked about or something. Yeah, for sure.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Or it was fake news. I don't fucking know anymore. You never know what the fucking believe on these horror pages. There's people still sharing the new Freddy, Freddy Krueger movie or whatever.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh, odd yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: And it's been DJ Qualls.

Austin - Frightmares: You're like, dude, it it drives me crazy because I take a lot of time to make content and do things and put stuff out.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm hmm.

Austin - Frightmares: And then that bullshit gets all this fucking attention. And I'm like, do I just have to start doing this?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm hmm.

Austin - Frightmares: Cause I don't want to do it. And like all this AI bullshit just gets all this attention.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yep.

Austin - Frightmares: People like, oh my God, I can't wait.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm hmm.

Austin - Frightmares: Do you you would literally have a fucking supercomputer in your pocket? Go to Google.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Look, look.

Austin - Frightmares: It's not real. Oh my God. Sorry. That's my, that's my rant on all that.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Nope, it's okay.

Austin - Frightmares: It's yeah. Like AI is good for certain things ah here and there, but you know, for, for misinforming people, it's like, come on guys. You're killing me.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: yep Yep Next nominee ah another polarizing film hereditary a lot of people hate this movie They think it's it's bullshit.

Austin - Frightmares: ah Hey, hey.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It's boring. It's not scary. It's whatever if you watch it It is ah just a very unsettling. and There's just a sense of dread the entire time. It just gets worse um Just not a fun movie to watch.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I mean it is but like it just I mean, Tony Collette.

Austin - Frightmares: I know what you mean.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah, Tony Collette. What can you say? She just conveys, you know, trauma and just, you know, dealing with all of that stuff. Uh, so, so well.

Austin - Frightmares: Biggest Oscar snub in the history of the world is her not getting at least a nomination for her performance in that movie.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Uh,

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: seriously. Mm -hmm.

Austin - Frightmares: Cause it was otherworldly. It was so good.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yep, she definitely brought it. um Next nominee, The Coffee Table. This movie has affected me in ways I never knew possible. I loved this. This was a Spanish horror film from two years ago, actually, but it just got released to our market this past year. You can listen to the episode that I did on this from a few months ago. um I love this movie. it This was the uh we're not gonna ruin anything anyway on to the next nominee it was the sadness one of the goriest movies ever made that came out i believe right around the pandemic this was something for all us horror nerds to look forward to um and it lives up to the billing this is a very if you're if you're into gore uh you you won't be disappointed this movie just is fun from like minute four to a minute whatever 98 however long it is um it's just straight gore action fun it's it's depravity it's

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: it's a rough one it's a rough one to get through uh if you're not into that stuff if you are enjoy next nominee sinister uh this is supposed to be the scariest movie ever made that i don't agree with is it a really well done horror movie absolutely is this worth uh watching absolutely is it worthy of being one of the best uh movies of the past what 20 years or whatever yes absolutely all of those accolades are absolutely uh deserving but um you know is it the scariest movie ever made probably not uh but it's it's still really well done and against uh scott erickson fucking killer uh director deserves more credit last nominee oddity we talked about it smart movie a lot of fun to watch and uh go check it out without further ado the best movie that i have seen this year the coffee table

Austin - Frightmares: Boom.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: offer to no one in this room because of how awesome that movie was if you have not seen that movie just just go watch it it's so fucking good

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, you got to see it. Definitely one of the most so funny because like, I remember reading the synopsis and it was like, you know, a guy goes down a dark and mysterious path after buying a coffee table. I'm like, okay. Uh, is the coffee table haunted? Like what's going on? And then yeah, that, that happens. You're like, Oh yeah, that'll, that'll change your life forever.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Just the whole, how do you deliver the worst news you could possibly deliver to somebody? When is the good time to say like, hey, I know my brother's coming over to meet the baby, but the baby's dead.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Like when, what, how do you casually bring that up?

Austin - Frightmares: but yeah

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: You don't, you can't. There's no way to fucking do it. And it was just a really, I don't know, accurate depiction, I think of what a lot of people probably would have done. You just kick the can down the road and just try to get by until like you absolutely cannot.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: And then the crescendo, right? The fucking, the dog gets the head from under the chair and he has no choice. Um, and then that ending is just, it's just perfect. um well Well, Austin, I know you have to go, sir.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I'm gonna probably ramble on this microphone for another 10 or 15 minutes or so. ah So if you need to leave, I...

Austin - Frightmares: Oh, I don't have to go.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Oh, you don't have to go? I thought you had to put the kid out of bed.

Austin - Frightmares: Oh no, she's already in bed. She goes to bed between like seven and seven 30. Now she just starts pointing at her bed and going bah bah. And then we just put her in bed. So, and then she'll wrestle around in there.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Lucky.

Austin - Frightmares: I just said seven to eight for starting time.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Oh, fuck yeah, you can keep going. Cool.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Okay.

Austin - Frightmares: You got a few more minutes.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Well... I don't really even know what I wanted to talk about. No, I wasn't planning on having a co -post.

Austin - Frightmares: I can fuck off if you need me to, I can get i can get out of here, I can toodle on, it's okay.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: No,

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: no, no, no. no it'll just be you know this was This was just a fun ride. I learned a lot. You know, good and bad. It it definitely takes a minute. if If for some reason this is the episode you're listening to when you consider getting into podcasting, it is harder than you think. And everybody and their mother thinks that they can do a podcast. Everybody and their mother thinks that they should start a podcast, that everybody will listen to you and your fun idea. And that is not always the case. I can assure you, it takes dedication. It is hard to do. It is hard to put out a good product.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: And even if you put out a good product, not saying that's what this was, but if you put out a good product, it is hard to get to the right ears. How often, Austin, do you, you listen to a podcast, right?

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, I usually, i've got like five I've got a handful that I listen to. Obviously, you know I listen to yours. I stopped listening to my buddy's podcast, The Shameless Picture Show, but that's because I edit every episode now, so it's really no reason for me to listen to it twice.

Austin - Frightmares: you know I edit the thing, ah so I stopped like playing it off my podcast, but i you know I listen to every episode in a way because I'm editing them for him.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Right. Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: ah But yeah, I've got a few that I listen to. Usually I'll try to ah bang them out on like Mondays or Fridays or whatever. But yeah, I mean, you you got to listen to podcasts to kind of, um I don't know, you got to listen to them to just kind of see what you can do differently. You know, you got to, you got to get other ideas from people. um It's just good to see. you You just have to, you know, it's like, it's like football. You got to watch other people play football and kind of learn from them. And you know what I mean?

Austin - Frightmares: So that yeah, it's, it's good to listen to other podcasts. Uh, I, I recently over the past couple of years, uh, cause I used to just, you know, I used to just record and throw it. I just wouldn't edit it, but now I've started editing things a little bit and it just gives me the peace of mind that I'm putting out a the best product and be, you know, if I say something that doesn't really make sense, or if I stumbled over my words, I can edit all that shit out.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm hmm. Hmm.

Austin - Frightmares: So that that's for me, I, you know, I put a lot of time and, uh, into my podcast and that's what it, you know, that's what it needs in podcast needs time. And I, that's why I understand, you know, if you're not able to. Have the time to do your podcast and you don't want to put out a ah half -assed, you know, episode.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Right.

Austin - Frightmares: So it makes sense why you have to kind of cut the, cut the cord on this. It sucks, but you know, I totally understand because having two kids, at one kid is, you know, all right, I can make this happen, but two kids that's going to be hard, man.

Austin - Frightmares: That's going to be tough.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: So, yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah, I mean, just just, I mean, watching the movie in itself, I mean, you figure most horror movies are, you know, let's just say an hour and 45 minutes just to split the difference on, you know, the two hour, 90 minute thing.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: So you watch that, you're taking notes the whole time. It does not take me two hours to watch a movie. It's closer to three hours because I'm pausing and sometimes I rewatch certain scenes and I'm writing notes down.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Then I go back through my notes, right? And I blow everything up so I can see it so I can, you know, read it kind of like a script. Right. And I just kind of put it up here and and I highlight certain things that I absolutely have to say going through five or six pages of notes, highlighting all that stuff that takes probably a half hour, if not longer.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Uh, just to do that, you know, and, and so you're looking at almost four hours right there. And then another half hour, 40 minutes to record and everything, or, or trying to time things up with you.

Austin - Frightmares: No.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: You know, it's it's just, it's a lot, it doesn't sound like a lot of time, but when you're trying to fit it in, when you you come home from work and you're on dad duty, right? You're immediately.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: You're on dad duty, you're relieving mom. Mom has been with the kid all day or whatever. and And she works from home. So like she has to watch this feral toddler thing running around trying to rip our house apart, right?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: While she's working. So I come home and she's like, take this thing, get it away from me.

Austin - Frightmares: Take this thing, this creature.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: You can get out of it. She's not like that, but you know, there's there's just, it's, you don't have that down. And by the time you're done wrangling this thing and getting it to bed and and, and feeding it and changing it and all that other stuff.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I love my son. I'm, you know, I'm just, I'm just being, you know,

Austin - Frightmares: No, no. Yeah. I get, I get the the dad vent about, you know, you love them.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: but dude, it ain't 15 at eight 15 on any given night.

Austin - Frightmares: It's work. It's a lot of work.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I'm fucking dead, man. I'm ready to go to bed.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: And you know there are a lot of times that I do. And the last thing I want to do is like try to fit in ah a recording or whatever. Because I don't want to give you a bad product. I don't want to give a bad product.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: And it's more that than me just like not wanting to do it anymore. I'm going to want to do this. I'm going to want to record an episode in like four months and be like, fuck, I saw a great movie. This would be a fun episode to do.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um And that's why I'm thankful you know to come do movies on on on your podcast.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: you know I'll still get to scratch that itch, so to speak. Um, but honestly if if this is anything you're considering on doing if you're listening to this for some fucking reason, uh You just just you know, don't don't have asset it's going to take a lot of time It's going to take a lot of dedication and it's hard to cut through it doesn't matter how good your product is There are so many people trying to do The same thing you're doing and like austin said and austin has a good product I can vouch for that

Austin - Frightmares: thank you

Austin - Frightmares: you

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It just shows you what you're up against here. And now with social media, it's just getting harder and harder with more and more AI accounts and fake bots and all this other stuff. It's just so much energy and time you're spending on trying to interact with an audience, trying to grow that audience. And and it's it's time. That's what it is. you know It's all that extra stuff. you know We tried starting that page, you know Kings of Hell. We tried getting that up and going and it just kind of you know fluttered out.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um Although I am still kind of working with Jay, I sent him two more stories, so maybe he'll narrate that on Dante's disciples. But yeah, I mean, it's just, you know, this was a good ride. I did what I wanted to do. I covered most of the movies I wanted to cover. um Once I got my actual list together, I was like, Jesus Christ, I have like five years of content here, and I thought I was barely gonna have two, so.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: oh But yeah, it's just fun. what What do you want to do still with Frightmares? What's your goal here? You probably still have, I don't know, 1 ,000 fucking movies to review. what What do you want to do with this thing?

Austin - Frightmares: I mean my, my ah so I mean my, I have like i like like, I'm such a planner. I'm trying to figure out where to start. ah My brain's just going haywire. So I have like five years of the show planned out. Like I have all the way through year 10 just like planned out. Obviously the next year is is done. Like that's what we're doing. You know, everything else is like, it's just something I get bored and hyper focus on. So, or hyper fixate on. So I have like, you know, the next five or so years planned out.

Austin - Frightmares: uh, cause I just, I don't ever plan on stopping unless life just literally becomes so unmanageable that I just don't have time for it anymore.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Right.

Austin - Frightmares: Uh, but I mean, all all I want to do, all I've ever wanted to do with fright mayors is to just, you know, be review, review movies, honestly.

Austin - Frightmares: And. I know most, most of the movies we review are highly rated by me ah for the most part, because we review movies that we like. So we're going to, ah most of the movies that we review, unless we haven't seen them are going to be, you know, pretty highly rated movies. So it's not like I just love every horror movie that ever exists. There's plenty of horror movies that I don't like. And that's what we're getting. That's what kind of what the purpose of next year is, is to not review so many movies that we know and love is to, is to kind of get into this unknown that, you know, I haven't seen horror movies from this year or that year.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Right.

Austin - Frightmares: um And just kind of explore the horror genre a little bit more and watch things that I haven't seen or maybe saw once a long time ago, like next year's lineup. I mean, there's a lot of stuff I haven't seen. There's a lot of stuff I've seen one time. I'm sure there's going to be stuff I've watched over and over for sure. There's going to be some favorites on there, but those have to be thrown in there.

Austin - Frightmares: But that's what next year, that's what at least my goal for next year is my goal for next year is to have one guest director on a month. And so far we've got four that are, that are yeses. I've hit up so many fucking people.

Austin - Frightmares: It's ridiculous. Um, it's, it's actually insane how many people I've hit up and how, like how many people have not responded, which is fine.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: ah

Austin - Frightmares: I don't, I'm not mad at that, but it's, I just, it's crazy how many people I've. Like, I've started to rack my brain like, okay, well, I got to start getting someone else. So that's the goal for next year. And I just want, I just hope that'll kind of push it this to the next level of whatever that is.

Austin - Frightmares: Because it's like, we have a good audience for, I think it's a decent audience according to Spotify at least.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yes.

Austin - Frightmares: But I just, I just would like, I don't know. I just don't know what else I need to do to kind of push it out there even more. I, we've got like 15 ,000 likes on Facebook. Uh, I don't get really, I don't really get much traction there.

Austin - Frightmares: I tried Tik TOK. I've got like 3 ,000, 3 ,500 followers over there. I get okay track. it I don't understand social media, I guess. I don't know what to do. I feel like I put out a ah good podcast.

Austin - Frightmares: I feel like I put out good content on TikTok. I feel like ah I'm doing everything right, but I'm just not really seeing much for, it's just bizarre. Cause all I, like I said, all I want to do is share my opinions, my my bold horror opinions.

Austin - Frightmares: Cause I have a lot of fucking hot takes. Uh, and I just want to share, I want to share my love of horror movies with

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Right.

Austin - Frightmares: Anyone who wants to listen, that's, that's all it's ever been from the beginning. Like I don't want fame or, or money or anything.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Right.

Austin - Frightmares: I just want people who want to and enjoy the podcast. That's pretty much all I've ever wanted. And I'll stop there with my rambling.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: So three takes, three takes from all of that. um One, you should definitely, this is for everybody listening, whoever's still here,

Austin - Frightmares: Okay.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: ah but watch a movie again watch a movie for the second time watch a movie for the third time for whatever it is because you don't know how your taste changed maybe I hated the witch the first time I saw it now I fucking love it I think it's a brilliant piece of cinema ah subtitles help because I can understand what the dude that sounds like a garbage that so I was actually saying so that's nice

Austin - Frightmares: Absolutely.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um the next thing you actually have a wife that likes horror movies so it really helps if my wife was a horror fan i could probably sneak into doing this a little more she's one of your co -hosts she's you know what i mean like like if i had that now she has come on you know a couple of times for for different episodes and everything but she's she's got a very low ceiling as far as what she can handle in horror so that's that's another reason you know that's just not something she's into and and i don't push it on her i'm like

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah. Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: maybe Maybe you can watch this, you know, ah this might be a little much for you, you know, whatever. ah She doesn't mind 80 slashers because they're not bad at all. You know, she can do the Friday, the 13th, the Halloween, all that other stuff.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um Like I said that the microwave kill and gremlins last night was a little ill for her. She wasn't a fan.

Austin - Frightmares: That's fair. It's pretty goofy.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Right. ah Third, about your social media growth. Now, I've looked on Facebook at at some big time accounts. We're talking just like Kim Kardashian or somebody like that. Well, maybe not her because she's a girl and that, that, that factors into it. No, seriously, that factors into it. Um, but it it was something like, I don't know. I want to say it was like Drake or somebody big like that. Um, and they had like,

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: No, I don't know who it was. It was somebody with a blue check mark. They were verified, whatever it was. And they had a like five million followers and they had 78 likes on a post. That's it.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: So like the follower thing doesn't really do much. I know we were trying to like get that traction going with the horror reviews, you know, by the douche bags or whatever. um Little shot.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Fuck you guys. Fuck you guys. Fuck you all. Bitches fucking bitch won't even fucking talk to me Joseph. You can suck a wiener anyway yeah Yep, We're not kinkshaming.

Austin - Frightmares: du It's like a fucking flaccid wiener, my friend. Or my guy, and not even my friend, just my guy.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: If that's what you like to do, you go do that.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: We're not kinkshaming. You do whatever you want.

Austin - Frightmares: over

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um but ah Yeah, I don't know. it's it's it's it's It's tough. Everybody's trying to do the same thing. and you want I think it's just persistence. I think you just have to keep going.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: You have a better audience that than I do.

Austin - Frightmares: and

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: If you have a better product than I do I think like it's more polished you have a system you're like go go go this is what we're doing every single time mine's ad lib I hope for the fucking best. ah and so i

Austin - Frightmares: Dude, don't get me wrong. Okay. That was the the first like three or four years of my show was exactly that. And you definitely have a much better product than I'd in your, in like your time.

Austin - Frightmares: You have a much better product than what I had in my first two years. Let me tell you, holy shit.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: i appreciate I appreciate that.

Austin - Frightmares: ah Trust me. ah yeah ah you Right out of the gate, dude.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: ah I appreciate that. Go ahead. Tell me how good I am.

Austin - Frightmares: you know

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I appreciate that. Go ahead. Tell me how good I am.

Austin - Frightmares: No, yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: i

Austin - Frightmares: No, i seriously, right out of the gate, you had you like the the and the fact that you do this alone. That is impressive. Okay. You had guests on, you've had me on and stuff like that, but you normally do this alone.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It's tough.

Austin - Frightmares: and That's, I could never, never.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It's, I think you could, I think you could. It's not as hard as you think. um Anyway, but yeah but but you know, it's, I don't even know what the hell I was saying.

Austin - Frightmares: a

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: You got me all blushing over here and everything.

Austin - Frightmares: I'm sorry, you're talking about, um, uh, you're talking, it's talking about putting out a good product and, uh, audiences and stuff like that and Facebook and reaching, you know, like keeping, keep, keep doing what I'm doing to, to continue growing my audience.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: and

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yes. Yes.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: you do You do that. You do what I said. um That would be good. ah Yeah. Ultimately, it was just fun. It was a good learning experience. I definitely, um you know, I mean, obviously I got to meet you along the way and and and grateful for that.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um I think we've had a nice little friendship bloom here. um and And this is cool looking forward to next year seeing seeing where that goes and and trying to help you out in any way I can.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, man.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: to help grow your product as well. um But yeah, I mean, this this was cool. i'm I'm glad I got to do it. Like I said, I so i started this because I listen, ah you know, I used to listen to podcasts.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: That was another thing. The whole reason I bought up the podcast thing, how often do you even look for a new podcast? You don't.

Austin - Frightmares: Looking for new podcasts?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: People don't do it.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, that's i mean that's true. That's the thing. At least at least searching on the podcast app. like i'lltra i'll go to like I will go search every now and again and see if I can find something new.

Austin - Frightmares: But then you know i'm I'm just very selective in what I listen to.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm hmm.

Austin - Frightmares: And there's a lot of podcasts I'll listen to where like I don't like this guy's voice, or I don't like the way like I can hear their lips or whatever.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: So many. Mm hmm. Gone.

Austin - Frightmares: like there's so I'm so finicky and and picky with my podcast.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Mm hmm. Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: Uh, that's why when, you know, I, uh, when you hit me up and I listened to yours, I was like, Hey, wow. A podcast I'm like finally into.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I made it.

Austin - Frightmares: Um, so that's just a personal thing with me, but yeah, I mean, like I said, there's a handful.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I made it.

Austin - Frightmares: There's one called, um, uh, uh, shit. What's it called? Uh, nightmare on film street. They're fucking great over there.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: I liked him. Yeah, yeah, John and Kate.

Austin - Frightmares: I love nightmare on film street. Yeah. Um, I've got an, obviously my buddy is the shameless picture show. He's great over there. That's why I came on to edit his podcast. Um, got you got to appear, send him a podcast with, um, Elric Kane.

Austin - Frightmares: He's great colors, the dark with Rebecca McHenry and also Elric Kane. They're great as well. Um, yeah. And that's, I think that's pretty much it for, or at least for horror podcasts. You know, I listened to like the bird cast and two bears, one cave and Doug loves movies and shit like that.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Right.

Austin - Frightmares: But for horror podcasts and movie, po and then of course, la po last podcast on the left, but they're more like, you know,

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Right.

Austin - Frightmares: Uh, true crime shit, which is, which is fine. Uh, but that's ah every now and again. Oh, and then one last one, the carnage report, the carnage report is great. They do all brand new movies like that are that like this year.

Austin - Frightmares: So it's all, you know, it's, it's all brand new movies, either streaming or, you know, um, in theaters.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: So yeah, it's, those are some good ones that I listened to, um, that I really enjoy. So.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Well, my point with, with that whole thing was that like, I personally don't look for a new podcast very often, right? I, I will listen to, I have like a schedule, right?

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: So like Mondays are these podcast episodes and Tuesdays, this one and Wednesdays, this one and Thursdays, this one and Fridays, this one. And then after that, I'll either fill it with an audio book that I'm listening to or older episodes of something that I enjoy or just music, right?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Like I'm not actively searching and putting the time. Cause like, I don't have time at work to sit there and be like, well, I don't know if I like this one or whatever. Um, you know what I mean? Like I don't have that kind of time at work.

Austin - Frightmares: right

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: So it's just like, I stick with what i I know I like and everything. Um, and that fills my time. So it's, it's, it's even harder to get through when, and I don't think I'm alone in that, right?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It's, it's, it's very similar to the, uh, you know, you're looking forward to everybody loves Raymond on Wednesday night. That's a random fucking TV show I know, but like. That was a thing for like, uh, my family way back when I actually think it was Monday night, but like they weren't looking for like, well, what else should we watch on Monday night?

Austin - Frightmares: Right.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Like they looked forward to that show.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, that's true.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: And I think podcasts are very similar. It's the same. It's the morning show effect. You get in your car on your way to work. You listen to the same morning show every morning cause you're familiar with it, whatever.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: And it's just hard to break through. It's very hard. And just that constant promotion and persistence and putting out a good product, a consistent product, not missing weeks, all of that shit.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It's it's hard to do. And for you to have done it for five fucking years, man, good, good for you.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: ah You actually deserve what? Fuck, I dropped my fucking, I turned my mic off or not my mic, my mouse. You deserve a round of applause. There you go. You got a round of applause. Did you hear the, did you hear the audio? Yeah, there you go.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah. Uh, yeah, I'm like I said, I'm going to keep at it. I'm going to keep on keeping on life's a garden, dig it, you know, all that stuff Joe dirt says.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Fuck yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: Uh, but yeah, you know, I just, I love doing it and it's just, it's a way to get out any frustration. It's a great, uh, it's just a completely great way to decompress and just talk about things you love.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yes.

Austin - Frightmares: So, and you can catch what it was fun.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yes. Yes. I was, it was fun. Go ahead.

Austin - Frightmares: What?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Just like when you when you would see a new movie and you're like, man, I cannot wait to like praise this movie or praise this particular thing, be the guy that loved this movie or be the guy that hated this movie that would say shitty things against it.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Because like you said, so many people are safe nowadays, you know what I mean? Or just whatever.

Austin - Frightmares: No, I totally agree. I totally agree. And that's, yeah, that's what is the fun thing about podcasting is you can literally, it's your show. You can say whatever you want about a movie and yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: you want.

Austin - Frightmares: And that's what I love about it.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: yep

Austin - Frightmares: So I'm going to keep doing it and you can catch John, uh, next year on my show. First movie we're doing Carrie from 1976. Can't wait.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: carry old sissy space like herself um all right buddy i think uh i think that's about it what do you what do you say here we you want to wrap it up

Austin - Frightmares: Oh yeah.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, man, I'm i'm i' i'm good. you know I think we've both said a bunch of stuff that we've felt, and ah thanks for always having me on. I appreciate being here, and you know I'll always have the the library to go back to listen to if I ever get you know reminiscent of of your time, which I'm sure will happen.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: We'll see. We'll see what happens in the future. But right now, yeah, we're definitely gonna hit a big old pause. I'm not the only one. There's a lot of people getting burned out with the podcast thing. Anthony Jeslin is one of my favorite comedians.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: And um he's actually stepping away from his podcast. Also, he's like, I'm just just done with it. I don't want to do it anymore. I just whatever.

Austin - Frightmares: wow.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: And and like I said, it's not that I don't want to do it anymore. It's just like there's other things I want to put my my energy towards. Um, so it'll be there and and i'll probably get the itch here later this year and i'll be like fuck I wish like I just want to get back on the mic and just do it I don't know. We'll see what happens But um, either way if you have ever listened to an episode and for some reason you're still listening to my drunk ass Ramble on about how much I love podcasting or enjoyed what I did. Thank you, right? Seriously, thank you. This thing reached fucking like 30 different countries across the world, which is insane

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, that's awesome, dude.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Give him like like what the fuck i'm doing here like I live in like, you know, just a regular house with A regular job like anybody else And ah you know for you guys to like tune in and and hear me talk about horror movies from Indonesia or Belgium or fucking the Netherlands or South America or Africa or fucking like literally all over the globe.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: My voice has been hurt.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah, it's wild, isn't it?

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: It's insane when you see those numbers.

Austin - Frightmares: Yeah.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: um Super cool. So if you have listened or you're listening now, thank you. I really do appreciate it. This was fun. And um yeah, stay safe out there. Enjoy your holidays, enjoy your new year, all that stuff. We might see it, but I can't count on it. Either way, you can check us out on Austin's podcast, Frightmares. Go check it out. He's got new episodes every single week. Is it on Wednesdays or Thursdays?

Austin - Frightmares: Wednesday is 6 a .m. Eastern time.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Wednesdays at 6 a .m. So definitely go check his stuff out. It's a way, way, way awesome podcast. so ah

Austin - Frightmares: Thank you.

Little Hops of Horrors Podcast: Yeah, I guess we'll catch you next time, or or not at all, but until then, cheers.

Austin - Frightmares: See ya.
