True Healing Requires Patience image

True Healing Requires Patience

In this episode, we’re getting real about what true healing actually takes. Spoiler: it’s not a quick fix. Healing—especially metabolic healing—requires honesty, patience, and a willingness to play the long game.

You'll hear why it's crucial to be brutally honest with yourself about your daily habits—from how you eat and move to how much sunshine you get. We talk about how real change starts with data, not feelings. Because when you have real markers to work with, you can take the emotion out of it and start making intentional, effective shifts in your lifestyle.

We’re breaking down:

  • How to assess your habits with honesty (no shame, just truth)
  • The importance of slow, steady changes over quick fixes
  • Why everyone’s path to healing looks different—and should be tailored to you
  • How tracking your progress can help you stay grounded and patient

Challenges in Seeing Health Results

00:00:48
Speaker
Well today I want to talk about something that keeps coming across my path and it's this idea that I'm not seeing results yet. And maybe you're asking yourself the same question.
00:00:59
Speaker
Maybe you've been implementing all of the things that I talk about like eating enough food, increasing your carb intake, increasing your protein intake. getting enough minerals, specifically potassium.
00:01:11
Speaker
Maybe you've been moving your body and strength training and getting sunshine and you've done well to start implementing these habits that we know to be beneficial for proper metabolic function.

Building a Strong Health Foundation

00:01:24
Speaker
Maybe you fall into that category, but you just keep asking yourself the question, why am I not seeing results yet? And I want to address that today because by and large, the people that I see asking this question are the people that have not been spending a good amount of time laying this foundation.
00:01:47
Speaker
Let me explain what I mean. You have probably spent decades undernourishing your body. You have probably spent decades eating bad food, getting all the different kinds of medications, taking all the supplements that are wrong for your body, doing the kinds of exercises that are wrong for your body. You have probably spent so much time doing all of these things that you thought were right, but they were only damaging and deeply damaging deeply pulling your body out of balance.
00:02:19
Speaker
And if that is the case, I want to tell you right now that it is disrespectful to yourself, it is disrespectful to your body to expect everything to go back to functioning optimally in just a few days, in just a few months.

Gradual Health Improvement

00:02:36
Speaker
That is not possible. Something that i tell my clients the first meeting we ever have is this is going to be painfully slow.
00:02:48
Speaker
It is going to feel so slow and you're going to ask yourself, is this actually going to work? Can this actually work? And if you're not asking yourself that question, then you're probably doing something wrong because this process is slow.
00:03:04
Speaker
You didn't quickly get to the point that you are today. You didn't get to being in a place of chronic fatigue and being overweight and having different autoimmune diseases and having allergies and low libido and skin issues.
00:03:20
Speaker
That didn't happen overnight. That came from years of mistreatment. That came from years of undernourishment. That came from years of your body pulling from all different kinds of mineral stores and glycogen stores or glucose, energy stores, whatever.
00:03:37
Speaker
It came from years of your body not being adequately resourced and having to pull from all of these different tissues and systems in order to keep you alive. So it's gonna take you some time before your body feels safe enough to be back in balance, to be back at equilibrium.
00:03:54
Speaker
So I hope you hear me when I say you need to slow the heck down. You need to take a chill pill, which I know is not helpful for me to say, okay, I understand. If you are frustrated and you're tired and you're having these symptoms and you're having these issues, I understand that it's frustrating to hear someone like me say,
00:04:12
Speaker
hey, you need to calm down.

Honest Self-Assessment of Health

00:04:13
Speaker
But I say this with all the love in my heart, and I'm gonna tell you what I tell my course students, what I tell my clients, and that's unless you have been laying the foundation, and you know if you have or have not, and this is gonna require you getting brutally honest with yourself.
00:04:29
Speaker
sit down and ask the honest questions. Are you actually getting enough calories? And if you don't know, you need to track. Don't just say, oh, I think I'm getting enough.
00:04:39
Speaker
No, take a few days, track it in the chronometer app, which will be linked in the show notes, and see if you are truly getting enough calories. Anything less than 2,000 is really not enough for a full-grown woman. Most women need to be closer to the 2,600 calorie mark And so if you're not getting that, that's the first place that you need to

Tracking Health Data

00:04:59
Speaker
start.
00:04:59
Speaker
Then get brutally honest with, are you moving your body in a way that is metabolically appropriate for you? Are you getting enough sunshine?
00:05:10
Speaker
are you eating foods that are appropriate for you? And if you're confused on how to determine those things, I teach you exactly how to in my course, Metabolism by Intelligent Design.
00:05:22
Speaker
Because our body is constantly speaking and it it is constantly giving us signs of how well or poorly it's taking in the input from our environment. So it will tell us whether or not our body is utilizing the food we're giving it well.
00:05:36
Speaker
It will tell us whether or not we are getting enough sunshine. It will tell us whether or not our sleep was adequate. It will tell us whether or not the supplements we're taking was appropriate for us.
00:05:47
Speaker
It will tell us whether or not our workout routine is appropriate for us. And the thing about this and the thing about learning this skill is everybody's body is different.

Understanding Metabolic Markers

00:05:58
Speaker
So it it does away with the noise of the wellness world it does away with trying to fit into a single box or trying to do what every person and their mom is doing and tailoring your lifestyle tailoring your environment into one that is appropriate for your unique physiology so once you've done this once you have sat down and you have been brutally honest and said okay
00:06:22
Speaker
I actually am doing these things. Not just, I think I am, but you have the the real tangible data, like your temperatures, like your food logs, like your step counts, like your workout tracking, I don't know, however you track that. You have the data.
00:06:41
Speaker
You have the evidence. And if you have those things and they are in fact true, that it is in fact happening, now you need time. You can't just do these things for a few weeks and expect it to undo decades worth of damage on your body.
00:06:57
Speaker
I've been doing this for over five years now. and there are still areas of my health that I'm looking to see improvements in. But I'm not worried, you know why? Because I've seen major improvements in other metabolic markers, which is one of the main reasons why i teach so in depth on metabolic markers in my course is because I feel like when we have these markers and when we understand them, we can look at this data and use it as a major encouragement.
00:07:26
Speaker
Because a lot of times, most people have like one major goal, Either you're wanting to lose weight or get pregnant or improve your hormone levels or better your sleep or stabilize your mood or get rid of PMS, whatever your one thing is, most of us have one major thing that's like, man, we really, really want to see this improve. And a lot of times that one thing doesn't happen immediately.
00:07:52
Speaker
But what keeps us in the game is learning our metabolic markers, learning to see the areas that your body is improving that you might not notice otherwise. So if you can have this data and be able to track it and be able to see, you oh actually, I'm seeing improvements in all of these other areas, even though maybe I haven't lost all the weight that I want to lose,
00:08:15
Speaker
or maybe i haven't gotten pregnant yet, or maybe I'm still you know having lower progesterone or whatever it is, you are still seeing an improvement in these other areas and that is letting you know that your body is healing.
00:08:30
Speaker
It might not feel safe enough to reach that goal that you set out to achieve to begin with, but slowly over time, it's coming to a point where you're going to see improvements in these other areas. so So give it time.
00:08:43
Speaker
The very real answer to why you're not seeing improvements yet could very well just be that you have not given it enough time.

Overcoming Health Journey Obstacles

00:08:53
Speaker
Generally the time frame that I give people is six months to a year of implementing the foundational things that I teach in my course, that I teach with my clients, that I talk about online. Give it six months to a year of doing these things before throwing up your hands and saying, it's not working, this isn't working for me, I'm not seeing the improvements that I'm looking for.
00:09:16
Speaker
Because again, I can almost guarantee that your problems is one of two things, and and this isn't true for everyone, okay? And I'll give an example in just a minute. But I can almost guarantee that you fall into one of two categories. Either you truly are implementing all of the foundations, all of the things that are known to improve your metabolic health and you just haven't given it enough time or you are not being honest with yourself and you're not actually doing the things that you know you need to be doing to improve your metabolic health, to improve your hormones, to see the results that you're looking for.
00:09:52
Speaker
Most people fall into those two categories. Now I said I would come to a caveat because not everyone will and I'm gonna recognize the nuance here and I'm gonna try and hit on it a little bit and I'm gonna use myself as an example.
00:10:04
Speaker
So a little over a year ago i hit a point where i was starting to feel kind of fatigued. I still had a couple of things that I wanted to see improvements in but I wasn't quite getting it.
00:10:16
Speaker
And I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt, I was doing all of my foundational work. I was following all of the principles that I teach. I was getting enough potassium. was getting enough sodium. you know, my macro minerals were in place.
00:10:29
Speaker
I was eating enough food. I was getting a proper balance of protein, carbs, and fats. My temperatures were great. I was seeing improvements in all of these other metabolic markers, but I still just had a little bit of fatigue and I still just wasn't feeling exactly what I wanted to feel like.
00:10:45
Speaker
And again, this was after years of me implementing these things that I teach, not just a month, not just two months, not just six months. but years. And so when I finally came to that place, I said, okay, at this point, I'm confident that I have taken responsibility for myself. I've taken responsibility for my health and I know i am doing everything in my power that I can right now.
00:11:09
Speaker
And after I had that conversation with myself, That's when I stepped outside of my zone of genius, stepped outside of my circle and sought further testing. And I had an HTMA run to just assess my minerals in my system.
00:11:24
Speaker
And I was able to see that there were just a few small tweaks that I needed to make to my supplement routine. And wouldn't you know, i made those minor, minor tweaks. Like I didn't even have to buy any new supplements. I just got consistent with some things that I already had and all of the issues that I had run into went away within a few weeks.
00:11:46
Speaker
I tell you this because I don't think that I would have seen that dramatic of an improvement had i not been laying the foundations that I teach here for actual years. Because I had a solid foundation, when I did go ahead and decide to intentionally have a test run, i was able to make those minor adjustments and see major returns relatively quickly because my foundation was solid.

Importance of Self-Awareness

00:12:10
Speaker
Too many of you are trying to build a glass castle on a foundation of sand and it is going to fall apart. It is going to break down.
00:12:20
Speaker
because you have nothing to properly build your home on. You need to take a few steps back and get truly, deeply honest with yourself. And I know I keep repeating this, but something that I've come to see in my years of working with people one-on-one and among my core students is most people are not as self-aware as they think they are.
00:12:43
Speaker
It's very easy to say, oh I'm doing everything right. Oh, I know I'm getting enough calories. I know I'm drinking enough water. But if you don't have the data, no, you don't. You have no idea.
00:12:54
Speaker
If you haven't tracked your calories, you have no idea. If you haven't tracked your temperature, you have no idea. If you're not tracking your sleep, you have no idea. There are so many things that you could be looking at before you go and outsource your health that are 100 times more important than buying the next supplement, taking the next test, doing the next diet, doing the next whatever fad they're talking about online, or buying the next really expensive wellness toy,
00:13:21
Speaker
There are probably things that you have not been doing, but you think you are.

Using Data for Informed Health Decisions

00:13:27
Speaker
So if there's one thing you take away from today's podcast is I want you to sit down and get brutally honest with yourself.
00:13:35
Speaker
Are you actually eating enough calories? Because a body that's not properly resourced is not going to function properly, period. Then are your macros balanced? What are your temperatures like? And if you haven't taken my temperature webinar, you can find it in the link in the show notes. In it, I teach you how to utilize your temperature in order to assess your thyroid and metabolism and ways that you can start improving your metabolism more and watch your temperature to see how your body's responding to those things that generally tend to be more metabolically appropriate for people.
00:14:07
Speaker
but get honest with yourself. And if you don't have the data, take the data. Because I can tell you right now that when you see the numbers, it takes away all of the emotional turmoil that so many of us feel when it comes to making lifestyle changes.
00:14:24
Speaker
that are necessary to see the improvements that we want to and our health and wellness. Before you have the data, everything feels overwhelming. We have these emotional responses that keep us from actually taking a step forward.
00:14:38
Speaker
But when you have the data, it becomes very neutral. Data doesn't mean anything until you attach meaning to it. So when you track your calories, it doesn't mean that you've been doing poorly, if you're not eating enough food, doesn't mean that until you attach that meaning to it.
00:14:57
Speaker
What it could mean, you know, say you track your calories and you're truly not eating enough food, what it could and probably does mean is that you just need to increase your caloric intake. And it really is that simple.
00:15:09
Speaker
You don't need to make it mean that you suck at life and that you are doing everything wrong and that it's so hard and overwhelming. No, it just means you probably need to eat another snack during the day. And then next week, eat another snack during the day.
00:15:23
Speaker
And slowly over time, increase your caloric intake into an amount that is proper for a full-grown woman. So anyways, wherever you fall in these categories that I've talked about today, i want you to be encouraged to start taking steps that will propel you forward to whatever you're looking for, whatever freedom you're trying to achieve in your wellness journey.
00:15:48
Speaker
And it might not happen right now. Things take time. Like I said in the beginning, you didn't get here overnight. It took you decades to get here. And it might take you decades before you start seeing freedom in the areas that you are so desperately looking for.
00:16:05
Speaker
So I hope you're encouraged today. Keep taking The next right step, keep moving forward because these habits over time is where you're going to see the major returns.
00:16:18
Speaker
It's not going to happen overnight, which I know this sounds so cliche, but cliches are cliche for a reason, right? It takes time. So take a breath, eat a snack, drink a glass of milk.

Trusting the Health Process

00:16:30
Speaker
I know that chills me the heck out and trust that your body will function optimally when it feels safe enough to do so.
00:16:39
Speaker
I'll see y'all next week.
