The Stress of Perfectionism in Health

00:00:48
Speaker
Some of you need to calm the heck down. I say this with all the love of my heart, but this is one of the biggest things that I see holding people back from truly progressing in their health and wellness, specifically their hormonal and metabolic health.
00:01:06
Speaker
I see women every single day that are getting caught up trying to do everything and be everything to everyone. And they're really losing the big picture of what it means to Heal your metabolism, heal your hormones.
00:01:20
Speaker
One of the byproducts of a truly nourished body yeah of healed hormones, healed metabolism, walking in balance is feeling grounded. And some of you are so freaking stressed out about doing everything perfectly.
00:01:35
Speaker
that you don't do anything at all and you continually perpetuate a cycle of stress. So want to talk about this today because this cycle of stress and this fear of not getting it right is one of the biggest things that is keeping you from moving forward.
00:01:53
Speaker
So often i see women in this mindset that unless they can do it perfectly, unless they can do everything perfectly, They're just not going to do anything at all.
00:02:03
Speaker
I see it every single day where unless we can buy the best, most perfect foods, the organic, regenerative, locally grown foods, then we're just not going to do anything if we can't do that.
00:02:16
Speaker
Some of you will not buy enough food to nourish yourself, to nourish your body as a full grown adult woman, because maybe you can't find the exact most perfect source of that food.

The Importance of Nourishment Over Perfection

00:02:29
Speaker
And I want to offer you both a loving reprimand and a permission slip today. Number one, you are doing more harm to your body by not buying the food that you need to properly nourish your body than you are by eating something that has a little bit of glyphosate or has a little bit of toxins in it.
00:02:49
Speaker
Yes, glyphosate is bad. Yes, toxins in our food is bad. I'm not negating that. Those are really important and we should be paying attention to that. However, what is worse for your body, what is worse for your liver is not eating enough.
00:03:06
Speaker
What's worse for your liver is being so afraid of eating a food with a little bit of pesticides in it that you don't eat it all and then dysregulate your blood sugar.
00:03:16
Speaker
Dysregulated blood sugar is worse for your liver than a little bit of toxins, than a little bit of pesticides. And guess what? If our liver is functioning, meaning we are feeding our body, nourishing it regularly, balancing our blood sugar, if we are doing these things, your liver will be able to filter out some of those extra toxins.
00:03:38
Speaker
Again, yes, we should be aware of those things. And if you're able to buy organic and locally grown and regeneratively farmed and all of these things that are great awesome things do it but if you're in a place right now or a season right now where maybe you can't afford it maybe you don't have access to it maybe there are external forces that are keeping you from being able to do that thing and that's okay.
00:04:03
Speaker
Do the best you can with what you have. If it's only in your budget to get some things organic, that's awesome. Some is better than not. If there's only room in your budget or in your life for you to be able to get some things grown locally or go to the farmer's market weekly, that's okay. Do the best you can with what you have.
00:04:23
Speaker
It is more important to be eating enough and eating consistently real food. Okay, and I'm not talking about eating Chick-fil-A every meal so that you hit your caloric intake.
00:04:35
Speaker
No, I'm talking about eating real food. And a good rule of thumb is to eat real food as close to as God designed it as possible. If it's only possible for you to get some organic, that's fine.
00:04:49
Speaker
Do that. You need to step out of this all or nothing mentality and just slowly and intentionally start nourishing the heck out of your body. And that can come from unorganic foods, from foods that are not grown locally.
00:05:05
Speaker
An egg from Walmart, a normal Conventionally grown egg from chickens that are fed crap is still better for you, still has more nutrients in it than eating some random crap that's packaged and on the shelf.
00:05:22
Speaker
There are still more nutrients in that cheapo, non-organic Walmart egg than anywhere else. So if that's all you can do, okay do that.

Simple Steps for Healing

00:05:33
Speaker
And this mindset extends out past just eating the very best, most quality food. You do not have to buy all of the most expensive supplements, all of the most expensive tools, all of the pricey, crazy things out there that you see everyone and their mother recommending.
00:05:51
Speaker
You don't need all of those things to begin healing. You know what you do need? You need to go get your butt out in the sunshine. You need to put your feet on bare grass and sit there and breathe.
00:06:05
Speaker
Yes, it really truly can be that simple. I actually had a core student recently share in our private Facebook community that she really rolled her eyes whenever I would talk about going and getting less than five minutes of morning sun on your naked eyeballs every day.
00:06:20
Speaker
She said, I rolled my eyes and didn't think that it was really going to be all that big of a deal. But then she went on to say how just that one small consistent habit of getting outside, standing on her driveway and getting sunshine in her eyes and on her bare skin for less than five minutes a day. She lives up north.
00:06:40
Speaker
So it's it's cold right now. But less than five minutes a day has completely changed her energy levels during the day. Which isn't that freaking incredible? I've seen so many people, and you might be one of them if you're listening to this, i spend so much money on all of these different supplements and drugs and energy drinks and whatever else is marketed to them when really, maybe you just need to go stand in the sun.
00:07:05
Speaker
Maybe you just need to calm the heck down. You don't have to be doing everything perfectly or getting all of the things in order to see healing. Healing comes from choosing to take a few small, simple steps every day towards a direction of wellness.
00:07:22
Speaker
And healing takes time. I'm convinced that this all or nothing mentality really comes from two places. One, perfectionism, which perfectionism, if you're a believer, stems from a deep distrust in the Lord.
00:07:36
Speaker
A belief that you have to be the one doing all of the work in order to see something happen. When really, God just wants us to be faithful with what we have. He wants us to honor our body, honor the earth, honor each other.
00:07:51
Speaker
And if honoring your body means getting up and going outside for a couple of minutes a day, do that. If honoring your body means eating three meals a day so that you can be a kind and grounded and gracious mother, do that. You can trust that he is going to fill in the gaps.
00:08:09
Speaker
He is faithful. He is the one that created this earth, that created everything on this planet that is good and healing and nutritious, everything that is best and most beneficial for your body.
00:08:21
Speaker
And when you are walking in line with how he designed our bodies and the world, then you will have peace. You will find freedom. And the reason I'm going off on this whole mindset of all or nothing, having to do everything perfectly in order to even do anything at all is because I see more often than not, the number one thing that is holding women back from truly healing is the way they think, not their circumstances, not their food, not their lifestyle, not their environment,
00:08:54
Speaker
but the way that they think. Your thoughts have power. And if you believe that you have to do something an exact certain way, you will never move forward. If you believe that your diagnosis is going to keep you from doing x Y, and z of course you will never heal.
00:09:12
Speaker
Your words have power. Your thoughts have power. There's a reason why in scripture we're told to take every thought captive. It's not just to keep us from sin, I'm convinced. But I think it's to show us that the way that we think informs every single action that we take.
00:09:28
Speaker
And if you constantly think that your life is falling apart, if you constantly think about how stressed you are, if you constantly think about all of the things that you're not doing right, if you constantly choose to see the worst, then of course it is only going to stay bad If you constantly believe that you have to do something a certain way, then you're going to be stuck in what we in the business world call analysis paralysis and not be able to actually take a step forward and do the thing.
00:10:00
Speaker
You just need to do the thing. If eating enough real food is the thing that you need to do, because that's the number one thing that women I work with are struggling with is not getting enough freaking food.
00:10:12
Speaker
They are so caught up in doing all of these things that are prescribed for them or that they see online that they're still just not eating enough real food. and And this is you just eat some food.
00:10:25
Speaker
you are probably freaking out because you're undernourished, to be honest. You are probably freaking out and stressed out and anxious and worried about all of these things and because you don't have enough minerals in your body. And that's just the truth.
00:10:37
Speaker
You need to step out of this idea, this mindset, this thought pattern and of having to do everything a certain way, having everything to be black and white or everything needing to be black and white in order for you to progress.
00:10:51
Speaker
As my Gen little sisters say, it's not that deep, bro. It's really not that deep. You do not have to do all of the things in order to heal.
00:11:04
Speaker
What you need is to nourish your body. Eat three meals a day. Whether or not they're made with the most perfect ingredients, you still need to eat.
00:11:16
Speaker
I say real food as close to as God designed it as possible. If you're listening to this podcast, you can probably make that happen. That that step should not be hard for you.
00:11:26
Speaker
if You can buy real food. It is cheaper to buy real whole food than it is to buy packaged food. So buy real single ingredient foods and start there.
00:11:37
Speaker
You need to eat three meals a day. You need sunshine. You need movement. You need rest Those things, if you are not doing those things simply and easily every single day, you have no business going and spending all of your hard-earned money on expensive tests, on expensive tools and toys, on all of the crazy supplements.
00:12:06
Speaker
You have no business doing those things. Start with the foundational, simple habits. Make them a part of your life, a part of who you are before you start doing all of those other things.
00:12:20
Speaker
Those things can be beneficial. It's fun to have some of the toys that are out there like the prana mats and the red light boxes and all of the other fun wellness things that can be beneficial.
00:12:32
Speaker
Those things are fun. You do not need them. Having different supplements, expensive supplements, can be beneficial. There is a time and place for them. But if you're not eating enough food, if you're not getting sunshine, if you're not getting rest, if you're not drinking enough, you have no business dumping money into supplements. do You know why? Because your body's not going to be able to absorb them if you're not getting enough macro minerals through your food.
00:12:59
Speaker
getting testing done, working with really expensive practitioners can be beneficial. There's a time and place for that. And having a team of people that are educated and well versed in what's going on in your life can be very beneficial.
00:13:15
Speaker
But if you are not eating three meals a day, getting sunshine, getting rest, getting movement, you have no business spending your hard-earned money on those things.
00:13:28
Speaker
We so often overcomplicate what healing needs to be or what it needs to look like and we have this idea in our head that it has to be done a certain way when it doesn't.
00:13:40
Speaker
You need to start with the basics. You need to start with the foundations. Eat real food. Get sunshine. move your body, laugh, have time with your friends, rest.
00:13:53
Speaker
All of these things are more beneficial for your body. They're more constructive for your healing than you being able to buy all of the best quality food, all of the best quality supplements, all of the crazy toys and tools and tests that you could get in your wellness

Taking Action and Trusting Your Body

00:14:13
Speaker
journey.
00:14:13
Speaker
So calm the heck down. If you're listening today, I'm going to assume that you needed to hear this. Calm down. Eat a real meal. Get outside. Put your feet in the grass.
00:14:26
Speaker
Touch a tree. Stop overcomplicating things and just take a step forward. Recognize that it will be messy. You have to crack eggs if you're going to make an omelet.
00:14:38
Speaker
Things are going to be messy if you want to get the results that you are looking for. You have to be able to take the step forward in imperfection and trust.
00:14:49
Speaker
Trust your body is doing exactly what God designed it to do. Trust that God is giving you all the tools, all the resources you need in order to move forward in healing, in order to operate in this world as a image bearer of the creator of the universe. You have everything you need.
00:15:09
Speaker
So walk confidently in that truth and take a step forward. It doesn't have to be perfect. It doesn't have to be pretty, but you just need to move. I hope this week's episode was an encouraging little kick in the butt.
00:15:22
Speaker
to get you out of that place of analysis paralysis and consumption constipation where you're constantly taking in information and never just taking the step forward that you need to take in order to see improvements.
00:15:36
Speaker
It doesn't need to be perfect. It doesn't need to be pretty. it just needs to happen. So whatever that looks like, it's going to look different for everyone and only you can know what that needs to look like for you in this season.
00:15:49
Speaker
So whatever that needs to look like for you, do that If you need to start with just getting morning sun, do that. If you need to start with getting three meals a day, do that. If you need to start with getting enough protein in your meals, do that.
00:16:02
Speaker
Whatever it is, do what will work for you in this season and do it slowly. And remember, it's okay that it's messy. It's okay that it's not perfect. The goal is not perfection.
00:16:14
Speaker
The goal is habituation. And if we can make these simple things that are foundational and necessary for your wellness, habit. That's how you build generational wellness that you can pass down to your children and your children's children and your children's children's children.
00:16:32
Speaker
We'll see you next week.
