Introduction and Hosts' Banter

00:00:34
Speaker
Hey everybody, welcome to another episode of Predetermined, a pro wrestling hangout. I'm your host, Garrett Callender, and with me, as always, the man that I would be willing to be chained to in a dog collar match, Chris Miggs. Garrett, I just apologize for the blood. I was thinking about FTR and Briscoes before we recorded, and I sympathy bladed.
00:00:54
Speaker
Um, it just, it just happened. I was just thinking about the match and somehow there was a razor blade in my hands and I gig myself and it's, I gig myself a little bit too deep. I'm sorry. You can't help it. I mean, in that there was a documentary and Ricky Shane page said that he's like, I have a unique way of doing it. And it grosses a lot of people out, but I take the razor blade and I push until I feel skull. And you tried that and it just doesn't work for everybody the same.
00:01:24
Speaker
That does seem like a not the best way to do it. Doesn't that seem too far? Unless his skull is closer to his like, you know what I mean? Like, I guess Ricky Shane page is like anatomy could be such that it just seems to work that way. You know, everyone's different. Everyone's different. It's just a form of measurement that makes sense to him. And he does, you know, you don't, if it's not broke, don't fix it.

Pay-Per-View Highlights and Match Reviews

00:01:50
Speaker
Yeah, he's not dead. He hasn't died yet. You know, um,
00:01:54
Speaker
I, again, any match where the ref blades, you just, you just have to respect, they went way over the top in a wonderful way. Like they gave us like, again, I, I, I, I paid $40 for that purely just for that match. And they gave me my $40 worth. They probably gave me a hundred.
00:02:15
Speaker
I was hesitant to pay $40 for this pay-per-view. I was even looking around for people where I'm like, if I can find somebody to split this with me, I'm more likely to, $20 makes sense. So, but on this podcast between the three hosts, this pay-per-view received $120. Yeah. And you know what? $120 fucking well spent. That was,
00:02:40
Speaker
I mean, it's going to be hard for me to rank, but I mean, that is at least top three favorite matches I've seen this year. Yeah, it's got to be. I mean, I have that. Well, first of all, I think it's hard to compare that one to the first match those two teams had. I think those two are two of the matches of the year. Yeah, I mean, it's I saw a lot of great stuff this year and it's but I'm struggling to find two things that are going to resonate long term.
00:03:11
Speaker
I think the way those two did, unless I'm forgetting something. Can you imagine having that match on the card, knowing what they were planning on doing, and putting it like mid-card?

Jericho's Matches and Mid-Card Dynamics

00:03:24
Speaker
Well, I didn't talk about this. I do think there's an aspect where they were like, Jericho's going to take his time. We can't tell Jericho we're running a little bit long, and he's in the mid-card.
00:03:38
Speaker
if you're just like, look, Briscoe's FDR is gonna go as long as it goes, and Jericho will do what he has to do if we tell him, literally, the pay-per-view feed's gonna cut at next time. You know, that's what I kind of figured. They just like, not that they were gonna follow that, but like, it just didn't, you know, they wanted to leave at that space and didn't trust otherwise. I don't know, that was my guess. That, not to get too far from Briscoe's, but,
00:04:06
Speaker
Goofiest fucking ending of the year goes to the Jericho Claudio match. Like somebody text me before, like I hadn't gotten to it yet. And somebody said, does he really tap out to the Cesaro swing? And I sent back like LOL. So I thought it was a fucking joke. Like that ended up not being a spoiler for me. I was just as surprised. Well, I kind of make it's it's one of those moves that like he's literally like losing. I don't know.
00:04:36
Speaker
it kind of should work that way potentially. Like, I don't know why it doesn't, but, and so it was kind of one of those like, but he had gone so many years without that happening that it was a little bit weird. We were like, literally everyone has accepted this except you, Chris Jericho. It's like, well, it makes Chris Jericho look weak when he taps out to spinning around like 10 times when I'm sure there's a house show out there where Kofi Kingston spun 45 times. I mean, on the other hand,
00:05:05
Speaker
We know about Jericho's proclivities for the drink. So maybe getting spun around like that. Maybe he's extra susceptible to getting spun around. He doesn't want to get embarrassed and puke on TV. Right. Right. That.

Ring of Honor Nostalgia and Live Experience

00:05:20
Speaker
That was such a great pay-per-view top to bottom. It really, I mean, I hadn't watched any of the other Ring of Honor stuff that Tony Khan's done, like other than what has been on TV for us. I missed the other two Briscoe FTR matches. And I mean, no matter how much you raved about them, for whatever reason, it just didn't sell me on 40 bucks. The dog collars, I think pushed it the rest of the way there.
00:05:47
Speaker
But having seen it, it just it brought back so many nice memories of Ring of Honor. It's it felt very nostalgic to be back. It felt good. It felt right. Yeah, it does feel like I did miss Ring of Honor. And I yeah, yeah, they've they're going to do a show in New York. I think facts are like, yeah, we're going to go. It'd be nice if it was that the Hammerstein and which just feels like.
00:06:09
Speaker
old-school Ring of Honor, hanging out at the Hammerstein, watching good wrestling. That's the thing about Ring of Honor, and part of why it's kind of weird they're trying to bring back a television show is that the Ring of Honor TV was always low-key kind of terrible. What was good about Ring of Honor was like, oh, you go to the show, and it's just a great three hours of enjoying wrestling with your friends. And that's what I wanted to bring back. I just wanted to be like, hey, there's a Ring of Honor show. We got a bunch of guys. The wrestling is going to be good.
00:06:39
Speaker
Some of these stories are going to work, some aren't, but you're going to enjoy yourself. And, you know, that's right. There. I don't know. I've even tried rewatching some episodes of the TV show that I attended, and it just doesn't. It's not the same as being there. It is a live experience. I don't know. And it's a live experience, but it's also a whole show experience. Right. I mean, the whole the promotion is built, was never built on TV. It was built on. Here's a three hour tape of a live show. Yeah.
00:07:10
Speaker
Yeah, it was I mean, it was nice that the crowd seemed like on board for it. Like it seemed like they knew the Ring of Honor people. You know, they weren't just there for Jericho. This felt like I was watching another Ring of Honor show, which that is not the vibe I expected for this specific show. Yeah, it really did. I mean, Dalton Castle was there and doing great. Um.
00:07:37
Speaker
Samoa Joe feels like a very classic Ring of Honor experience. What's his name? Shane Taylor was back and that match was weird and interesting and I liked it.
00:07:49
Speaker
I think Shane Taylor is a guy that I, you, if you went to a Ring of Honor show between a certain period of time, you saw him every fucking time for those, that series of years. And I don't think you were ever in that moment. Like it got to a point where you're kind of burned out on like, yeah, Shane Taylor is going to have a match and it's going to be fine. But there was something about having gone this long. It's like, Oh, Shane Taylor's here, my old buddy. I even, I felt a little bit that way even about Matt Tabin.
00:08:20
Speaker
The only times I've seen Matt Taven this year have been on Control Your Narrative. And that's, to put it lightly, a different context. So to see him pop up, I was like, oh, it's nice to see these guys and it's nice to see him work again. And Shane, I will say, I think maybe the best spot of the year is Keith Lee catching Shane Taylor. That's fucking insane that he did that as like a physical thing. Like Shane Taylor is a large human.
00:08:50
Speaker
very large human and Keith Lee just kind of caught him. Like he's like, like if anyone threw 300 pounds at you and you're just like,
00:08:59
Speaker
I got it. You know, my knees would just explode. Like it would be like there's that episode of South Park where they remove, I believe, people's testicles and put them in the kneecaps to make them taller. And if they jump too hard, they explode. That's me. That is my body. If. Yeah, no, thanks. This sounds like an event Professor Tom should compete. Our friend Tom should compete in.
00:09:25
Speaker
like just catching you and- Just catching Shane Taylor. Well I think because it's an event you build up, Shane Taylor is like the last level. You know. Every time I see Shane Taylor, I've only ever seen him in like a wrestling singlet. Right. And he's a thick boy. I gotta know his pants situation.
00:09:48
Speaker
You know, I think about that all the time, Gary, because he's not just a large man, right? He's a very oddly shaped man. So like, does he just are they just gigantic? Are they are they really big in certain spots? Because he's just like, it's got to fit over here. But it doesn't.

Wrestler Humor and Anecdotes

00:10:04
Speaker
Does he get a maid? Does he have a guy? It ends up being a Downton Abbey situation where he has like a footman.
00:10:16
Speaker
God, it's true. He's he is odd proportions. He is like a child drew him like he's got like normal upper body and and then like. I honestly got no clue what he weighs because the upper part is like so proportioned, but he's just like he's got a thick butt. He's got a big. It's got to be 300 plus like legit 300 plus.
00:10:41
Speaker
Like enough that even Keith Lee looked like this is pretty heavy. I feel bad asking him where he gets his pants, but I don't even think the big and tall. It has to be a custom job. It's got to be. It's either going to be a custom. Again, I first I want to see him in walking around clothes.
00:11:02
Speaker
And then I wanna ask if I have any questions once I see it. Maybe it's just seeing him would explain it, but. It's like, I know at one point, I think Waka Flocka Flame was hiring a professional blunt roller. And I know Seth Rogen wanted to apply to have that job.
00:11:22
Speaker
He just needs a pants guy, like a guy that's going to grab, but you might need two pants. I don't know if me alone could pull his fucking pants up. I think it would maybe be us as a team. And then me, you and Shane are best friends now because that is just a level of intimacy that I know he could share things with us that he can't tell other people.
00:11:44
Speaker
I'm trying to Google Shane Taylor pants and I just, I guess there's one picture here where he seems to be wearing pants and they seem normal-ish. So he's kind of figured it out somehow. Like I'm not body shaming the guy. I'm just like, it's more of a fascination with just the capabilities of the human body.
00:12:07
Speaker
You know, I've got a pants guy, you know, cause, cause I like my jeans kind of trim, but like my for slim jeans, like my calves are kind of big. So he kind of makes sure they're, they're just right. Maybe, you know, Shane Taylor probably needs a little more customization than I do. But I, if Shane Taylor, Shane Taylor, if you're listening to this and you're in New York, I've got a pants guy for you.
00:12:31
Speaker
Don't fucking throw your pants guy under the bus like this. I got a job for you. And then he sees Shane Taylor. He's like, why the fuck did you put me in charge of this? You just got legs that are a little too big. This guy, have you seen this man's tush? No, I believe in Eric. He does everything by hand. He can do it. He can do it. Eric does good work. Eric, Eric is the best.
00:12:56
Speaker
at fitted underground. If you're in New York and you need some pants that are made for you, you like them. That's a good plug. It's a, it's a, it's a plug. It's a, it's a strong plug for, uh,
00:13:09
Speaker
My pal, Eric. Was there anything else on this show? Because I feel like the way the show went is this one match was like such an absolute fucking banger that like $40 for this one match is worth it. Everything else was just fine. It was pretty good. It was good. Well, I can text it to you guys because I watched the show live or just about live. I paused a couple of times, but I was like, look, guys. Everything else on this show is
00:13:38
Speaker
Probably not much better or worse than you're imagining that match would be on paper. Uh, Briscoe's FTR. I don't know what you were imagining, but it's better. Right. That was the only thing. Everything else was like, I enjoyed this was nice experience. That match was.
00:13:54
Speaker
Holy shit, I can't believe that was a real wrestling match that we got to see in 2022. How rare is it, outside of GCW, that your kid is walking by and you're like, I'm not sure you should be watching this with me. There's a lot of bleeding happening right now. It was the most blood I've seen in a wrestling show that doesn't involve glass in a while.
00:14:23
Speaker
Like everybody is gushing and it is violent. Like it's just, it's a, I mean, it's just a violent brawl. The bump Mark Briscoe took to the floor. I was at first, I was like, did he overshoot the table? And then I'm like, man, if that was the, if the table was the plan, they so far overshot it that I don't think that was the case. I think he was just like, yeah, I'll take a bump to the floor on a pile of chairs from the top. I'm just going to do that. And you're just like, okay.
00:14:54
Speaker
And did somebody shoot, lose a tooth? They kept saying it on commentary. I think they said to actually shoot, lost a tooth, yeah. You should. If somebody's getting a chain put in their mouth and hid in the face in that manner, by the end of that, somebody other than a Briscoe should also be without teeth. I'm a mate, so I'm gonna see the Briscoes this weekend. For brunch, of course.
00:15:22
Speaker
We do a thing. We have mimosas. We have some eggs, Benny, and we just chat. No. I'm introducing to Eric, my pants guy. Yeah. No. Oh, the Briscoes. The Briscoes are like, oh, my God, you've got a pants guy. And like, yeah, OK. Well, we've got it like because it's got to be very specific proportions for wrestling. You know, we're you know, they've got a lot of a lot of chicken money. Right. So they can't use the same pants for the chicken farming that they were for wrestling. So they've got to get very specific pants. They go to Eric.
00:15:49
Speaker
He gets them tailored exactly right for what they need in terms of range of motion for wrestling. He's the best. And it's important to have a good amount of cargo pockets. Exactly. He can add the cargo pockets. You know, Eric's shop, his workshop is it's just outside Williamsburg. And, you know, one thing I found about my time in my time with the Briscoes is they love Williamsburg. They just love the the pastries.
00:16:18
Speaker
They love the pastries and also they've been there seven or eight times actually, to go see their favorite band, Kurt Vile and the Violators. I love Kurt Vile. I haven't, so the Briscoes were sad when Ring of Honor closed, but they were also really sad. They told me when, when Rough Trade in Brooklyn closed, they were like, where are we going to go get our records? Um, you know,
00:16:46
Speaker
It's hard. Way big into color variants and just different artwork. I get it. I get it. Me and the Briscoes are basically the same minus the chickens.
00:17:04
Speaker
Right, that's definitely different. They love the chickens, but they also have an incredible amount of Margot price final. Like just a borderline concerning amount, but you know.
00:17:24
Speaker
God, I see, okay, Teddy Hart doesn't need the reality show. The Briscoes need the reality show. It's gonna be a little life on the farm, maybe mixed in with a little Queer Eye for the straight guy, have a little makeover, maybe, I don't know, I don't know, there's so much you could do with those guys. Right, I wanna get to know the kids, right? Do some of the kids wanna follow in their dad's footsteps?
00:17:53
Speaker
Um, and which, and which footsteps, right? Are some of them are like, we're going to wrestle. The other ones are like, we want to run the farm. And then there's one who's like, I want to play piano. Um, and of course the Briscoes are very supportive, right? I mean, they're not, they're not sure he's theirs. They're just unsure.
00:18:12
Speaker
You know. So. But the but the Briscoes are doing House of Glory this weekend, they're wrestling one of Maddie's favorite teams, the main event at any. And I can't believe they're going to wrestle another match, even a week after what they just. I really can't believe they're just like, yeah, we're just going to go do another one.
00:18:41
Speaker
Cause I have to imagine the house of glory one is going to be very much toned down. You know, it's going to be more of just like a, you know, just like a WWE kind of like tone it down. Not so hard. House of glory is like ring of honor. Briscoes, right? Like they're basically working, you know, the more athletic style aspect, they're getting significantly less violent in a house of glory match. I actually,
00:19:09
Speaker
Uh, watched because I was very exhausted on Saturday, on Sunday. Um, such a sketch show on Saturday night. Um, I just started watching. Briscoe's house of glory matches. And then I ended up binging through with like skimming through, um, because unlike certain other, uh, websites fight plus really does let you get a good fast forward in there. Um, their house of glory matches. There's a lot of really good ones, nothing, nothing nearly at the level of.
00:19:38
Speaker
like Briscoe's FTR, but yeah, it's a lot of the more athletic side of like, you know, big moves kind of stuff. So yeah, I think, I mean, they're not going to bleed. Maybe at all, certainly not nearly as much against the main event.
00:19:54
Speaker
They're not John Moxley. They're not going to blade the lion under his mask. That's not not. So this has to be the least they've wrestled in a single year in a long time. Right. Like the past few years. I don't know. I feel like they did so many. It's hard. I feel like they slowed down on the indie dates later in the year. But the Ring of Honor schedule was so like
00:20:23
Speaker
spotty at times that I don't know if this was more or less if you just added up for the year.
00:20:30
Speaker
Okay. I don't know. I guess since when we, when Derek and I started doing the podcast, I feel like I was just at a constant state of being at a ring of honor show somewhere. Um, but I don't know this year, like, it just seems like they haven't had a ton of matches, but the matches they've had, like, at least like the big matches have been so quality.
00:20:53
Speaker
Like a level of quality that not to say they weren't good before, but it just seems like this is a really, really hot year for them as a tag team. I mean, deathmatch war games, the series of three here. And honestly, that's all I have in my head. And that would like that's enough to rank them.
00:21:12
Speaker
Top 10 wrestler wrestle performances of the year for me. I mean, the match with Ozzy open at the last House of silver show was pretty amazing. Yeah, that was good. I think this was the end of last year, but they wrestled Brody King and PCO and GCW. And that was pretty great. That's true. Yeah. Yeah. And then that's true. I was at the one in L.A. where they won the tag titles from second gear crew.
00:21:37
Speaker
Right. That was that was amazing, too. Like, I don't know. Maybe them on a slowed down schedule is they're just, I don't know, saving it up. I think the thing for them is that they got fresh opponents. Like, I think the hardest thing they had in Ring of Honor, I mean, the joke about it. Right. But like, there's only so many times you can wrestle the young bucks and make it different.
00:21:56
Speaker
Like with the same guy, you know. Same with Shane Taylor and Matt Taven, like rare groups. Like I've I saw the Briscoes fight every variation of everybody on that fucking card that they possibly could do. It was done. Right. Exactly. And now they've got all these fresh opponents.
00:22:16
Speaker
And even if they're not, again, even the ones that aren't the best, you're like, Oh, that's kind

Briscoes and Diverse Wrestling Styles

00:22:20
Speaker
of interesting. Like the briskos this year and house of glory wrestled the main event and private party in a three way.
00:22:29
Speaker
Not telling you, you should go out of your way to see it, but it was certainly interesting. They wrestled evil Uno and Stu Grayson. They wrestled Jeff Cobb and TJP. Like they just wrestled all sorts of just different variations of like lineups here and, and, and did the violent stuff in GCW and did the more athletic stuff in other places. And they just kind of did. That's the other thing too, I think is that the briskos can really go hard if given the opportunity and.
00:22:57
Speaker
feel like in Ring of Honor did not get the chance to be like, oh yeah, we're just gonna get throw chairs at people's heads as nearly as much as they wanted to.
00:23:06
Speaker
And I think Ring, yeah, I think it's Ring of Honor really dug an image of the Briscoes to me, which athletic, very good at what they do. But in a way that when deathmatch war games was coming around, I didn't believe that they were going to go as hard as they did. Like they were in the shit. Like they were getting, doing the light tubes, they're in the glass. Like, I mean, they did it just as hard as anyone else in that match. I mean, to be fair, those guys come from,
00:23:35
Speaker
CZW, you know, that was there. That's where they started. So like that's part of it, I think, is that like those guys did all the stuff with all the weird people. They've seen some shit. They have. They've shared a locker room with Necro Butcher. They. Yeah. Yeah. Fight Plus, I was just burning through stuff and I was just like, I was like, this is kind of fun and this is kind of fun and just kind of like zipping around in a way that was very satisfying.
00:24:04
Speaker
Got to hand it to Fight Plus. It is, I feel like with most of the streaming services, I spend way too much time searching. With Fight Plus, there is almost immediately something that catches your eye that's like, oh, I got to see this shit. Like, I have to click on it now, like it might go away later. Whether it's like actual violence between two puds in the UK, whether it is...
00:24:32
Speaker
The weirdest thing that you talked about, that you text me about seeing over the weekend was a Kingwin. Kingwin PTW, I guess, primetime wrestling or I don't know. Yeah, it's a Kingwin is King Penguin, by the way.
00:24:48
Speaker
at King penguin. Okay. It's a, it's a, um, it's a Polish promotion. King Gwen, if you've never heard of it is a, is a gray market website in which you can purchase video games from Eastern European companies that obviously bought them at lower rates to sell them at lower rates, but they can, they'll sell them to you even if you're not in Eastern Europe. Um,
00:25:11
Speaker
I learned- It is actually this company that has all those old E.T. Atari games. They went and dug them up. They have them over in Eastern Europe now. So it's hosted by a man in a very shiny jacket. Just so shiny. And the first like 20 minutes are just him and this bald guy talking in Polish, but dubbed, which is really interesting. Yeah.
00:25:38
Speaker
Yeah. And you I didn't listen to the whole thing because it was going on a long time. No, I was fast forwarding beauty, the fast forward button there. But as I listened to the translator, it seemed like it seemed like English. They're very good at it. But there are times that they're like they don't know what the translation is and just say fuck it and just continue talking in Polish.
00:26:08
Speaker
Oh, whatever. I don't know. Something about, uh, something, something Marty's girl, Marty's girl, Marty's girl villain. Um, Marty's girl is on the show. He wrestles someone named primate. Um, people seem to enjoy him at the end of his match. He challenges someone named star boy.
00:26:34
Speaker
Not Charlie. It's not Charlie. I was hoping it would be pretty funny if it's like, oh, by the way, Starboy Charlie, big star in Poland. So on this show, I assumed Marty Skrull was the main event and went there first. Second. Second, he went on second. He was on second after the weird, like, effeminate tag team wrestling the two Otises.
00:27:01
Speaker
Yeah, that's a good way to put it. Uh, two Otises. So, okay. What does Marty's girl look like in 2022? What's his wrestling style? Is it the same old villain? It's

Marty Scurll's Controversies and NJPW Speculation

00:27:15
Speaker
just the same. He's basically, it's just Marty's girl.
00:27:18
Speaker
Does he have any of the gear? Does he have an umbrella? Is he still doing the same shit? I don't know if he had the umbrella. Certainly, I'm not sure if he didn't, I don't wanna call him using the umbrella in the match, but maybe he had it with him. Yeah, still doing the same gear, still doing the overall same. It's the same thing. It's just Marty's girl being Marty's girl. His character should be wrestler, but kind of defeated from some personal issues.
00:27:49
Speaker
Oh, you mean he should turn his, his life up to 10 just to turn to 11, just turn up who he is. Yes. Did he have any look of sadness on his face or did he look like I'm happy to be in Poland? This is where I deserve to be. I feel like he had a game face on game face on. He was looking brave for daddy. You know, it was a big crowd though. I think that's part maybe, maybe what helps, right? He's like, you know what? I may be in Poland.
00:28:19
Speaker
Wrestling for, um, a gray market video game company against someone whose name sounds like they should look like, like a monkey or an orangutan, but they're just a guy in camo pants. Um, but there's a big crowd cheering me on. I think this is how, but just him and Flip Gordon just generally, like they were in like Costa Rica recently. They're just doing the tour in the world.
00:28:48
Speaker
I'm actually surprised Marty hasn't been accepted back in Japan. Again, that's where there's like the interesting thing with him that I've always been like, I'm just curious. Like I don't, I think we have a right to know or whatever, but the fact that for whatever reason, when he showed up for New Japan strong, people were like, we need him to leave. It's like, there's gotta be more we don't know about, right?
00:29:13
Speaker
Wait, you mean, did he show up to strong in the US? Yeah, there was a strong taping that he was on that never aired. Or that part of it never aired. I think it just has to be the American crowd. No, but it was when it was still in a studio. So it wasn't the crowd, it was the locker room, basically. Oh. Was like, get him the fuck out of here. Fuck, it's so bizarre that he is like, I mean, I guess he admitted to what he did. Sure. And he's like, I did it, but it wasn't a crime where I was at the time.
00:29:44
Speaker
And everybody's like, gross, but like, we'll ask her to say that gross. You know, I mean, not, it's, it's not like, wow, good job, Marty. It's like, that sucks. That's not a cool thing to do. But on the other hand, Matt Riddle still gainfully employed, but in rehab still being paid. See is your, it's true. His yeah.
00:30:08
Speaker
It fuck it. It's funny, like no matter how much wrestling changes, where it feels like we've escaped the dark past of wrestling, there's still like shit bags sprinkled throughout that, like because of their abilities, it's like, well, we'll not think about it for a little bit. Yeah, no, I mean, look, I mean, the allegations against Jay Lethal, I think in a lot of ways are
00:30:35
Speaker
very, are terrible. And I, again, nothing's ever been, it's always just hard with this stuff because it's like, it's not proven whatever, but I think it's a couple of women who've made the same allegations, which is a sign of things. And people are always like, ah, Jay's a good guy. And I'm like, is he?
00:30:50
Speaker
Well, things kind of even out with karma. So yes, he is still on television, but he is now chained to Jeff Jarrett. So good luck. Good luck getting to the top, buddy.

WWE Dynamics and Allegations Discussion

00:31:03
Speaker
You got a fucking anchor on your leg, an old anchor that nobody asked for. I think if you asked Marty Skirrell if he would switch places with Jay Lethal and hang out with Jeff Jarrett instead of Flip Gordon, he would take that in a heartbeat. It's like, can I say slap nuts?
00:31:19
Speaker
I'll say it. We'll do a thing. We'll do it. I'll say it. He's just tiny Tim at this point. He's just like this sad pathetic boy looking for scraps and they're like, you can have some scraps, but you got to go to fucking Puerto Rico asshole. It's like, okay. Okay. Yes. Santino. Is it okay? Cause Santino Morella, the apparent like, was he the GM of this company?
00:31:49
Speaker
Well, I didn't get to that part of the show, I guess. Santino is the GM of King One PTW. I got the vibe that he was like backstage like higher up guy because he comes out in a suit and he was behind the commentary table for like the main event and stuff. OK, which the main event. So you didn't get to the main event. I think it did actually run four and a half hours.
00:32:12
Speaker
Well, the first like 30, 40 minutes of that, like I fast forward it and like, it took forever to get to wrestling. But the show starts at like 40 minutes and then there's still four, there's still, I'm still at like two hours in and I'm like, it doesn't seem like there could be that many more matches, but there's still two and a half hours left on the runtime. It's pulling, man. Like they got to get it. You pack in as much wrestling as you can in one show. Fucking Matt Seidel isn't going to fly here every weekend.
00:32:44
Speaker
So, yeah, the the main event, which was the luchador that it was. It was an ex-WWE luchador. Was it Kalisto or Grand Metal? Was it him? I think it's because Samurai Del Sol. I think it was Kalisto. Yes, it was him versus Seidel in the main event. OK, that seems like a good main event for the people like, you know, if I was in Poland, I'd be like, fuck, yeah, I'm going to go see Matt Seidel, like headline this arena down the street.
00:33:12
Speaker
It was a nice venue. It was a nice venue. It's better than a lot of indie venues I've been to. The announcing is surprisingly good. So after they get past the dubbing, there's guys who are doing English announcing. And while it's clear that English is their second language, they are frankly better at this than most American indie announcers.
00:33:36
Speaker
See, I really like when you said that I assume that this is where they're going to send Kevin Gill. Like they are going to be like, you got to go to Poland and learn how to do this. We are on Fight Plus now. There's a lot more families watching. We can't have you saying fuck every other word. It's embarrassing. And you can't name drop all the wrestlers that you know. Michael Cole isn't like Roman Reigns. I know him from the bus. Shut up.
00:34:04
Speaker
Oh look, and look, Kevin Gill, I mean, you can, you have criticisms. There's a lot worse than Kevin Gill out there. Absolutely. And don't, like, I think I would probably get along with Kevin Gill. I just noticed that he's missing. Like where in the world is Kevin Gill right now? I feel like he disappeared. No mention of him. Like in wrestling, if somebody just disappears with no word, it doesn't make you think good things. He did. He was.
00:34:34
Speaker
He did an Instagram takeover for Outlaw in New York recently, so he's alive. He's around, okay. I don't know, they've got like, the guys that they've been using was like the play-by-play guy.
00:34:48
Speaker
who just is more, he's cleaner, he's, everything just feels more like an actual commentary team. And I kinda wondered if that's what they're, if GCW is trying to get a little more serious with the presentation of the product. I mean, look, when you're on Fight Plus sitting there right next to this beautiful Polish production, I mean, you gotta live up to, you know,
00:35:18
Speaker
Um, and, and, and VCW, you know, like you gotta make sure you're living up to it, which did have, by the way, for those that didn't have fight plus and haven't watched it yet, VCW did have this weekend beast man in a dog collar match. And, uh, it was great.
00:35:41
Speaker
The other guy, it was kind of a weird thing. Like it was kind of ironic. At first I was like, why is this guy think he's the biggest dog? But I think it was like a, like irony, right? He's kind of a little bit of a runty guy and he's angry. Um, but it was a good match. I mean, beast man did a lot of the work. Like it really felt like beast members wrestling himself at points.
00:36:03
Speaker
Beastman was the star, maybe this guy was somebody he trains, I don't know. Maybe, Mad Dog Meyers. Yeah, and surprising, Mad Dog goes over. I'm wondering if they know Beastman's on his way out of the territory. Beastman's not gonna be wrestling in high school gyms in West Virginia for much longer, and they know, okay, we gotta make someone on the way out, you know, because he's gonna be up north so frequently.
00:36:33
Speaker
I would love that, but like, I can't tell from beast man's bookings that he cares or wants to go anywhere else. Though he did get announced for the super Jacob. So we will have speed ball, Mike Bailey, Billy Island. What's that? The battle bowl. I thought it was, he's not in the Jacob too. I might've fucked up. I'm definitely excited for battle bowl. It must be battle bowl. Is that, that's an Atlantic city on New Year's day. Yes.
00:37:02
Speaker
Okay, so I fucked up. God damn it. I would have loved Beastman versus Mike Bailey. I want Beastman versus Billy Starks. It's fine, Garrett. We'll fix it in post. I won't. I'm not gonna fix it. I want to keep this out there to let Lauderdale know Beastman should be in all of these. Maybe he's not a tournament guy. Maybe he's not a guy that can wrestle three times in a day.
00:37:29
Speaker
Beastman versus Speedball. Get on it. That I definitely want. Beastman versus Speedball is a thing I really want to see. And again, I want to see Beastman versus everyone, but especially Beastman versus Speedball. That seems like it would be delightful. Is it going to be hard to not go to Atlantic City on New Year's Day? You know, knowing that Beastman is only two and a half hours away, it is going to be hard.
00:37:55
Speaker
I did get a really good brunch reservation for new year's day though. That'll soften the blow. Um, with the, with the briskos, of course, again, they're really, they're coming to Queens this time. We're going to go to a great place called comfort land. Um, you know, I tell the briskos.
00:38:18
Speaker
You gotta go with like this sort of like big stacked eggs Benedict, but they want, they want that chicken sandwich and I get it. It's delicious too. I mean, we have long conversations about this, but we always agree on bread pudding for dessert. I can't. What are they where?
00:38:43
Speaker
Like, what is casual Friday Briscoe? Well, I know what casual Friday Briscoe looks like, but it's like too casual. This is New Year's Day brunch Briscoes. What are they wearing? I mean, it's a pretty casual place. So they're wearing their camo pants. They're wrestling boots because they're always just ready for that. They're always ready and cashmere sweaters.
00:39:07
Speaker
If they just have a couple of night, you know, they're like the nice, nice cashmere sweater. It goes anywhere. It's still, you know, like they can wear. This is my funeral sweater. It could be if you need to, you know, for weddings, it's for funerals. It's a very versatile sweater. It's cashmere. Nobody can say shit. There might be a little blood on it, but. Let it. That's why that's why they they it's they have they have them in black and Navy. You can barely see the blood. You won't notice it.
00:39:38
Speaker
What was there anything else you watched on Fight Plus after? Oh, geez, what else did I get through on Fight Plus this week? You know, I watched a so again, I watched a bunch of HOG and one of the things they did was this pay-per-view from Terminal 5 that I would have gone to if I was in town, but I was away with some just really oddball choices.
00:40:08
Speaker
There's a match between Brody King and Jacob Fatu that is supposedly for the HOG title that had been titled to him in vacant. But they ended in a double DQ in a minute. And then it becomes a tag match with Brody King and Malachi against Jacob Fatu in the Amazing Red. That's a real match that happened.
00:40:33
Speaker
And it was good into that. Yeah, very. Well, they were pretty pissed at the double DQ. But in the Malakai black came out. Yeah. And they were like, oh, this is pretty fun. HOG. Interesting thing about HOG is they like to book bigger acts. And as part of that, they are willing to do really bullshit finishes.
00:40:54
Speaker
They do not mind. Like the main event wrestled. Uh, there's one show where they wrestled Dragonly and Drilistiko. And I'm sitting there going like, Hmm, I guess that maybe Dragonly, maybe they're going over, but they really put in main event over. So who's, how are they going to get out of this? And the answer is they just, they just have them go to a double count out. They're just like, whatever. Who cares? So they're going to be completely fine booking. Uh, what's this Viking gentleman from triple A?
00:41:23
Speaker
The King, the King go the King go the ho Delva King go I
00:41:29
Speaker
I know our buddy Teg was like so crazy excited about this guy coming to the US and that he was like going to finally be able to watch him on these GCW paper views. And what the hell? What the hell? So if you haven't heard, this guy is coming over. He's got all these bookings and AAA is like, you know what? We actually decided you can't film or stream any of this guy's matches. So Friday night in Los Angeles,
00:41:57
Speaker
This seems to be like the match they've promoted the most is like this guy's like the poster. And it's him versus Blake Christian, which I have not seen this man wrestle, but I have to imagine if everybody's this excited about him and he's coming from AAA that him and Blake Christian is going to be a fucking banger. I assume it's going to be great, but we're not going to be able to see it.
00:42:23
Speaker
other than on 1,000 cell phones, that I'm sure are going to be filming it to post to YouTube, hopefully, or will AAA take that down? I don't know. I don't know, but apparently El Ejo Del Vicingo's matches need to be protected more than Mandy Rose's, well, whatever for the two wants to show. Okay.
00:42:52
Speaker
been a week for wrestling news. It's quite a weird week. Yeah. That's the things that are allowed in WWE and not allowed in WWE where they're just like high and mighty on like, she showed a nipple, get the fuck out. And then the night before there's a thing playing on Vince McMahon, like with new allegations that we didn't know about. And they're worried about her nipples.
00:43:18
Speaker
And then they're like, but give me that Saudi Arabia money. I don't know. I just, meanwhile, Vince is trying to come back. He's like, I got, I got screwed. What am I coming back guys? Why are you letting that midget Gargano on the main show? I don't like it. I don't like it. H.
00:43:37
Speaker
He's trying to pass notes to Hunter during Thanksgiving for name suggestions for some of these guys. He's like, we're not changing Seamus' name. He's been on here for 15 years. He's like, just come on, just new name. Yeah, I think it was facts who said you can tell that Vince isn't in charge because they fired Mandy Rose. If this was 1999, Vince, he'd be like, all right, take that top off on pay-per-view.
00:44:07
Speaker
but first come into my office. That goes without saying, Gary, that goes that thing. And then what was the other fucked up thing that I read? Oh, I saw too that, um, that, uh, Dustin Rhodes, uh, was saying that the AEW schedule has been so fucking hard on his body. Have you seen, did you see, you know, because he's wrestling less essentially.
00:44:38
Speaker
Yeah, he said that he described like the WWE schedule is like your body builds up a callus that allows you to handle these blows. And he's like when I'm only wrestling once every four months, he's like it fucks my body up so bad to just do this one time and then stop.
00:44:55
Speaker
He said that's like what was wrong with like Undertaker. He said Undertaker and Triple H both talked about how much it hurts to just do the WrestleMania match every year and just like destroy your body and then have to recover. I do think that's one of those like wrestler things, but they're like, yeah, it's better if we just get hurt a little bit all the time. And it's like, I'm actually not sure that's actually the case. Like maybe that case in your mind, but maybe not.
00:45:25
Speaker
Oh, and the other, again, just a crazy week first one is, Suzuki-Goon is breaking up.
00:45:31
Speaker
I learned the story there. So I don't, I don't guess. I don't know what the story is. I mean, I, uh, I was watching the world tag league finals this morning and Suzuki goon won an eight man tag match. Then Suzuki's like, give me a microphone. And he's like, I love all these guys. He praised each of them individually. And then was like, we're all going to go our separate ways and do our own thing at the end of 2022. He's very specific about that. He's like, not now, not today.
00:45:59
Speaker
end of 2022, which is admittedly like 16 days from now, but still. That's pretty amazing because I think any other wrestling promotion would have found a way to just break them up with a story, but it was like, we've done everything we can. I'd like to go our separate ways. I, you know, I love you guys. I just, you know, I want to ride on a different bus.
00:46:25
Speaker
Uh, you know, we're still friends. We're just not going to be, we're not going to be a wrestling group anymore. We're not doing the white elephant gift exchange. Like it's just, I'm somebody else. Yeah. Go to somebody else. We're not, you're not coming to Suzuki's house for Thanksgiving this year. Yeah. It screwed my brain up a little bit because it was like.
00:46:44
Speaker
somewhere between like, it's like five 30 in the morning. So it's just like, what?

Wrestling Events and Surprising Outcomes

00:46:50
Speaker
And it was getting translated by Chris Charlton, who's not quite as good as the Polish translator. He's not quite as quick. So yeah, it was very like, I was like, oh, okay. Well, once he, but once he started talking, it's like, I think he's, I think this is going somewhere sad.
00:47:13
Speaker
Maybe Suzuki's just coming to AEW and he's gonna be full time there. I don't, I mean, who knows who gets signed to AEW anymore? It doesn't, like tonight, did you, I guess you were at a holiday party. I was at a holiday party, but feel free if there's something that's not like a giant, maybe, maybe, actually, maybe it is, who cares? I don't know. It's up to you, Garrett.
00:47:37
Speaker
Now, I'll go ahead and tell you this one because this is one that I think Derek and facts kind of made it seem like I was put of the week for not giving a shit about a thing that was happening. So Jericho was going to fight. I believe how he put it in a backstage promo was he's going to go fight a jobber. And then he's going to get another title shot from Claudio.
00:48:04
Speaker
Okay. And it is Jericho versus action and ready. Do you know this man? No, I didn't either. So action and ready comes out and him and Jericho are fighting action and ready. He's doing like a little, he's a little more high fly, like doing some, some flippies and the match just kind of kept going. Then we went to a commercial break.
00:48:26
Speaker
And I was texting like, why the fuck is this going so long? Why am I having to do a picture in picture for action and ready? I'd rather action Mike Jackson be in this match. That's something I want to see. But, uh, this dude goes over Jericho. Okay. This guy beats Chris Jericho, the crowd, it loves it. And it's shouting, you deserve it.
00:48:49
Speaker
at Action Andretti. I'm like, why did he deserve it? I just was introduced to this man. I don't know him. He goes up the ramp. I see on Twitter, he's all elite now. Tony Khan has signed Action Andretti. I guess he needs homegrown talent. I guess. He's actually so, he's gonna be the first guy in the new Suzuki army when Suzuki goes to ADW.
00:49:19
Speaker
They need more people for factions. And that has been a huge problem. Also. No, Rusev, get back in your corner. Get back. Don't don't even look at us. I was going to do next. He's also going to hang. He's going to hang out with action and ready and Suzuki. Suzuki and Rusev would make a hell of a tag team on AEW. I'm actually kind of in on that. I was just riffing there, but I think I'm in on that. That is. Them versus FTR.
00:49:49
Speaker
Right? Right? I'm intrigued. Tony, let Miro out of whatever cage you have him locked up in right now. I kind of miss the guy. Like he's not hurt, right? Like he's just... No, he's healthy. Apparently, I mean, he was going to do something with the House of Black and then like that fizzled because those guys were left for a little bit. And I think they just kind of... They were pitching him other ideas.
00:50:16
Speaker
I don't know. So that's what the word is right now. I don't know. Well, something Derek and I were talking about this tonight because the acclaimed come out and they end up getting jumped by Jared and lethal. And so it seems like the next tag team feud is going to be between the acclaimed Jeff Jared and Jay Lethal. Yes. And
00:50:45
Speaker
Jay Lethal's getting a title shot and they don't have anything for Miro. I just don't understand how Jeff Jarrett became a legacy guy that is there. I guess, I don't know, the slap nuts on the guitar got me as a kid. You know what?
00:51:10
Speaker
It sounds like I'm talking negative on AEW, but this was the first time I had watched since the pay-per-view. I hadn't tuned into anything AEW. Oh, because last week's show was a banger. Well, it did open with the Bucks and Death Triangle.
00:51:27
Speaker
And the second Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks were in my eyes, I just felt like a little glee, like some child, like a child's sense of wonder, like go through my body where it was just like, life is a little bit better when Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks are in it. And I felt like shame on me for not tuning in and watching those other three matches. I mean, you can always go back and watch them happen.
00:51:54
Speaker
Well, it turns out so, but do you, I mean, is any of the spoilers for you or do you, I mean, they have wrestling. I mean, I don't know who won the match tonight. Do you want me to not tell you so you can watch it later? Yeah. Well, I mean, I know they're eventually going to go to seven, so maybe it doesn't really matter. I don't know. I guess that's true, especially since they're already advertising the stipulations for those potential last matches. There you go.
00:52:25
Speaker
Uh, the, I guess like, I know we were talking about quitting early tonight because it is very late. This is the latest we've ever recorded an episode. Yeah, we're getting, we're getting pretty late here. I mean, I've, and I've been up, as I said, I've been up, I woke up for Royal Tagli this morning. Just I, I had the energy. I just kind of woke up and it was like five, 15, five 30 in the morning. I was just like, you know, I'm just going to watch this live.
00:52:50
Speaker
I can't say there was a ton to recommend on the show. Um, Carla Henderson is going to go to the Tokyo dome. So Kenny Kenny Omega and, and the FTR are going to be in the same show as a WWE guy in three weeks. That's pretty entertaining. Um, that is interesting. That is interesting. Um, the, uh, the tag league finals were, uh, both good, both kind of hurt by the fact that they, this is one of the crowds in Japan that's still not allowed to clap that to cheer.
00:53:21
Speaker
Um, because it is almost 2023. So feel bad for you guys in Japan. Um, I will say one of the things I like about new Japan is that, um, like it gets you in that very sportsy mindset. And it really, like, it really works, you know, cause I was thinking, so I've been talked about here. I've been watching a lot of Aussie open cheering for them in world tag league. I was excited to see them.
00:53:49
Speaker
WrestleFTR in the Tokyo Dome. Can I spoil the finish to World Tag League for you? Absolutely. I have not watched any of it. OK, so so they're wrestling Gotoh and Yoshihashi in the final. And I'm thinking that's got to be FTR. It's got to be Aussie open to WrestleFTR in the Dome. That'll be fun. But. You know, they did Aussie open to beat Gotoh and Yoshihashi in. Standard New Japan booking is you flip it in the finals. Oh, no.
00:54:19
Speaker
That'd be fine. No, no. Gotoh and Yoshihashi won them. It was a half hour match. It was very good. Gotoh and Yoshihashi won. They're going to wrestle FTR in the Tokyo dome, but I will say like my brain went to, Oh man, that's, that's really disappointing for Ozzy open there. You know, they tried so hard. They got so close. They were so close to like, you know, wrestling for the titles in the Tokyo dome. And then I stepped back a second and I was like,
00:54:46
Speaker
Wait a minute. What the fuck am I saying? These guys got to live their dream, uh, wrestle for three weeks in Japan. We're put over very, very strongly. Got to the finals of tag league. We'll probably win the titles at some point in the first quarter next year and wrestle like the year after in the Tokyo dome, like.
00:55:03
Speaker
they're fine like this was this is a you not only are they fine this is a huge win for them um so i actually had a moment with my daughter tonight where i explained that like sometimes even if we don't win we can consider it a very very good thing like we can be like wow that's pretty good
00:55:22
Speaker
Yes, I don't think your mindset is wrong, though, on a match you'd like to see in the Tokyo Dome. Well, that, exactly. That's the one thing that did hit me, though, that I did think about is like, there's no way that match is getting more than 15 minutes, right? Like, there's just too much other stuff. We got to give Kenny and Osprey like 45 minutes, right? Like, there's no way that's going to be a short match. So to me, if they're doing FTR Aussie Open,
00:55:50
Speaker
I mean, maybe FTR even keeps the titles in the dome and they do that match at the beginning or dominion, one of the other shows where they could be where that could be one of the main events, you know, I think that's right. That is, I mean, it is possible they lose them for whatever reason TK and new Japan going on, but.
00:56:13
Speaker
Even if I were New Japan, I would rather my belt stay on those guys until I can get them like a big matchup. Like you said, something that could even main event a pay-per-view. That is like very clearly a mid-card, like almost time fill match. Yeah, I think they could main event a B-show. Well, two things. One, two options. They could either main event like a New Japan like B-show, I think with that match, like in Japan.
00:56:41
Speaker
Or I think they could main event if they were going back to England or even like, I think they've done, they've done shows in Australia. Like. I don't know. You send Aussie open after FTR for the titles in Australia. Wouldn't that be like a big, couldn't you like sell tickets for that? You know? Um, so maybe they're, maybe they're saving it. They just didn't want to do it there. And again, at the end of the day, Aussie open went seven and two in the tournament. Beat pretty much everyone. Like.
00:57:11
Speaker
Their career, their careers are on the upward trajectory. I think they're going to be fine with it. But I was a little bummed for them. And again, I think mostly again, to be fair, also, yeah, a little bummed for for us all that we're not going to get. We're not guaranteed yet. FTR Aussie open to.
00:57:31
Speaker
I think there's something where it's like, if I'm gonna be up this early, I want it to be all bangers, and the specific banger I want it to be. That is part of it, I think, in the sort of context of, you know, Wrestle Kingdom. Because I was thinking about that, I'm like, I'm probably gonna get up early in the morning for Wrestle Kingdom, but it seems like kind of a bit of an up and down card, is my feeling. So here's what we've got for Wrestle Kingdom right now.
00:58:03
Speaker
We've got Okada and Jay White. It's gonna be great. It's the main event in the Tokyo Dome. Not gonna be bad. Kenny Omega versus Will Ospreay. Very excited for that, no doubt. After that, it gets a little weirder, right? You've got Zack Sabre against Rennerita for the TV title. Okay, it's gonna be good. Carl Anderson's gonna defend the Never title against Tamatanga.
00:58:33
Speaker
Again, kind of interesting, but, uh, FTR against Bishop on, um, the TJP and Akira against Leo, Russian yo again. Good. Wait, Akira.
00:58:52
Speaker
Uh, Francisco Akira, not, not a kid, not, not, not. Yeah. Yeah. Different, different Akira. I was like, have I missed like huge deathmatch news that part of heaters group, KOBK is going to be at the Tokyo dome. Not quite. No, no. Um, other fucking death samurai. He's going to be, he's going to be a, he should be a Takataichi Despimania though. He would be great there. Yeah. Um,
00:59:20
Speaker
What was the one other thing they've actually announced, uh, never, uh, Oh, and the junior title Isha Maury against a row move versus. Desperado versus Watto. That'll be fun. That'll be good. Yeah. Like all like, I do feel like pre those two main events.
00:59:44
Speaker
I'm not, I mean, I would enjoy it, but if I fell asleep for a stretch, I wouldn't be like, rats. I wouldn't be very angry. I'd be like, yeah, I guess I'll have to go back and watch that. Yeah. It feels like I can sleep in at least an hour. Cause like the card goes in order of importance, typically. Well, that's actually the thing. I'd be very interested in seeing like what they're, if they've, when they announced the order.
01:00:11
Speaker
because, you know, yeah, exactly. It's like, yeah, maybe that first hour is going to be real skippable. I don't know. Still going to tune in. I mean, I've been, I feel like I've been out of new Japan so long that this wrestle kingdom is going to be the one that I'm going to use as like a jumping off point to kind of get back in. Oh, I forgot one match. Tam Nakano against Kyrie. Kyrie same for the start for the IWGP women's title.
01:00:41
Speaker
That is super interesting. Yes, especially with Sasha Banks presumably showing up. Yeah. And so what was it? I saw Meltzer say that she is going to be making the most money ever in New Japan on like a per appearance deal, like more than Jericho, even. I hadn't seen that, but I believe that in the sense that like if they want to jumpstart that,
01:01:03
Speaker
Like, cause especially if you want to be like, Hey, I want to sell a show in the U S we're going to main event it with Sasha banks against Kyrie saying that probably works. That's a ticket mover. Probably a lot of people really like Sasha banks.
01:01:17
Speaker
I like Sasha Banks. Like she's honestly like when she has a good match, it can be really fucking good. I just feel like it's been a while since I've seen one of those. Right. I like her not tuning in too. But yeah, I like her. And it's also just one of those things sometimes where people there are like Sasha stands, you know what I mean? And I'm like, I'm like, I really enjoy her work. I'm not like, I will kill for Sasha Banks. You know, like there's.
01:01:43
Speaker
a little bit, you know. I just can't. I can see her being a fucking movie star though. True. Yes, and Miss Suzuki should be a movie star as well. Yes. Again, in a Gilmore Girls reboot with you. Yes, correct. I mean, well that's, you start on TV, you work your way up to movies, he's taking the Clooney approach. Of course, of course. Yeah, I think it's gonna be a good show, very curious to see how they lay it out, but I think it's, you know,
01:02:12
Speaker
Um, but I think I do think it's a good jumping off point. And cause I don't think, and look, this is one of those years in new Japan where like, I don't think there's a lot for you to go catch up on aggressive. I think it really was just the, uh, the pandemic took me out of it. It was new Japan was one of the harder ones to watch through the pandemic. And it's a thing that I loved for a long time and I'm ready to love it again.
01:02:39
Speaker
Uh, you gotta go back and watch F FTR Ozzy open though. F T that's, it's been getting a great year for tag team wrestling and I'm beginning excited to dig deeper into fight. Plus there's weird Aussie open matches from Australia. I got all the Briscoes GCW matches on my watch later right now. You and I had different fight plus days.
01:03:04
Speaker
You had your King one, you had these HOG shows. I started with some bare knuckle boxing. This was another UK one, but this time they were in an octagon and they had very tall pretty ladies and thongs holding the round cards. It was a real boxing match. But then,
01:03:33
Speaker
I saw that they had to go outside of the ring and then sit in a steel chair. Like that is rude. Like you're making these ladies sit in a steel folding chair in a thong. That's also what a weird job that like the pretty lady ended up with where it's like, what did you do today? I had to be half naked, hold this card and watch men beat the piss out of each other until one says, please stop. I'm not as tough as I thought I was.
01:04:04
Speaker
You know, I did once have a job when I was in high school where I sat on like hot kind of like metal benches in, not to say short shorts, but shorter shorts, watching tennis. And when you think about it, that's kind of close to what you're describing. Um, I mean, no one's face was broken.
01:04:29
Speaker
No one's face was broken and you weren't getting objectified so much that you knew about it. That's fair. I was not parading around at any point that my job is not involved. If you were walking around at a tennis show, a tennis show. At a tennis show, sure. You're at the tennis show in your short shorts. You definitely caught a couple of gazes. I mean, you're walking by me. I'm not saying I'm not giving you a little pinch.
01:04:59
Speaker
Sure, sure. You know, those older ladies, they enjoy, you know, a nice a younger fella in his his tennis gear. OK, after that, what was the I fuck my phones in the other room? I wrote it down. What was the excess W? Was that the one I told you? No, let's be clear. Excess W is the one is the comedy one I'm involved in. XPW was a different thing.
01:05:27
Speaker
What is XPW? Like is it, should I know what this is? Like I had never heard of it before I clicked on it. Wait. Oh wow. Oh, okay. So XPW. Oh no. Did I watch like a really problematic thing? Okay. So Garrett said XPW was formed in the late nineties originally by this guy named Rob black. The reason he had money to start this promotion was that he made porn.
01:05:54
Speaker
Okay, it's the porn guys show porn guy. Yeah. Have you seen the dark side? Does that ring? Have you seen the dark side of the ring on that one? Yeah. The name was Oh, no, I didn't watch that one then. But like, when you said the name and the porn guy, so obviously, like, he's done he's bad. He's pretty bad.
01:06:16
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, he's like he's done some things. He's done some videos that are pretty inappropriate. He definitely he accused one of his wrestlers named the Messiah of sleeping with his wife, who is also a porn actress and then had one of his thumbs cut off. I wonder if she was on commentary. I don't think they're together anymore.
01:06:42
Speaker
My God, dude. Well, I guess I have to tell you what I saw then. I've heard about what they so they came back. The one hilarious thing was that they had like a free video like they're almost King of the Deathmatch or some show they had. And like you looked at it on fight and they were like, it's like seven and a half hours long. And it's like, that is not an acceptable length of time for a wrestling show.
01:07:07
Speaker
That is not acceptable. Seven hours of watching Deathmatch. What was on this show, Garrett, that you saw? So what got my attention from the poster was Schlack was in the middle. And I saw he had a belt. So I didn't know the bad man ran the thing. All I saw was Schlack was there. And in this house, we like Schlack.
01:07:32
Speaker
I don't know what Schlack's deal is outside of wrestling. So Schlack, I've heard Schlack specifically have to say on Twitter that he does not associate with Nazis. So good. Does El Schlacko associate with Nazis? That's the other question. Who knows what El Schlacko's up to? Right. Right. We need a translator.
01:07:56
Speaker
But the match, as I clicked on the thing and saw it said, Necro Butcher versus PCO. And I thought, I want to see what that is. Sure. And once I get to it, I also, I come fast forwarding, I'm fast forwarding, I stop and I think, is that Necro Butcher? I haven't seen him in a while. He's a lot older.
01:08:20
Speaker
But he is with a group of men, all waving giant Trump flags. And they've all got make America great again. Hats on. And. One of the men, the undertaker. Hey, man, you know, just I like his policies. I don't agree with everything the guy says.
01:08:52
Speaker
So it is Necro Butcher, but on commentary, they're referring to him as Magga Butcher. And the crowd, as far as I could tell, they were supposed to be the heels, but there were people in the crowd that actually had those hats on too. So they were getting half cheers. So it was really a 50-50 split on this New Jersey crowd with Magga Butcher. And then- Oh, it's in Jersey. This was in Jersey. This is in Jersey. It thought it was their debut. Oh, it was in California, okay.
01:09:12
Speaker
You know, he's just kidding.
01:09:22
Speaker
Yeah, it said it was their jersey debut. And Zandig on the show, because apparently Zandig is a deathmatch magga guy too now. Is he back? I thought he was like, like I thought Janela killed him. I don't think he wrestles that much anymore. So maybe he maybe he couldn't wrestle. Well, maybe he saw what he was getting himself into and was like, I'm out.
01:09:47
Speaker
So they sent Bobby Beverly out and they bled all over the place. Fine, whatever. So I skipped to the main event, which is Schlech versus Drake Younger. And I'll tell you, after the first thing with Necro Butcher, I thought, this company seems odd. And then once I got to the main event and saw who was in it, I was like, oh boy.
01:10:12
Speaker
And that's as soon as I saw your face when I said the company, it made me feel like I had done bad. Like I participated in something wrong. You know, we're all just we're all just tooling around Fight Plus. And, you know, again, I don't know. Did we do did we do bad by watching the Polish gaming company? I don't know. I I'm nervous there was something more to that that we're missing. I don't know.
01:10:41
Speaker
That's true. Like you watched the show with the canceled guy. I watched the show with criminal and like Drake. I always said that Drake younger's wrestling character is guy with no kids who just got kicked out of PTA meeting.
01:10:57
Speaker
or out of the, yeah. Him and Schlack like- Just turning himself up to 10. It is crazy how much they bled in a match. Like in this room, there's not that many people. Like they both looked like fucking raw meat by the end of this. There was so much glass. And I had never seen somebody Sabu a pane of glass.
01:11:22
Speaker
It's somebody, but Schlack, Sabood, Drake, younger with a pane of glass and just. He gave him a German suplex into a pain. Like it was honestly, this guy went pretty fucking hard, but I don't know. Maybe I felt like this was going to be funny or talking about it until I knew more about the company. They've got so many shows announced for next year. Jesus. I was just looking at their cage mats because I was wondering when this was.
01:11:52
Speaker
from and it's only from like a week ago or a couple weeks ago. Yeah, it's 11 November 12. But then they're then they're doing like a show a month basically, but alternating between California and New Jersey.
01:12:10
Speaker
Yeah, it looked like they're doing it in Pomona, which is one of my least favorite cities. Because one time I was in Pomona, Chris, in this nice little area, like this kind of nice little downtown area where there's some cute shops. And I was going to shit my pants and nobody would offer Garrett a toilet. Every place I went in would say,
01:12:32
Speaker
no public restroom, and I'm like, you don't understand. I'm about to poop in my pants in your antique store, and they didn't care. So fuck them. I didn't in my pants. Okay, that's good. I think I must have run into a restaurant and told Leo, like, buy something so that I can do this. What was the name of the ship?
01:13:01
Speaker
What was the name of the, the name of the shit? It was the name of the shit as the name of the town it was in. I called it Pomona. Damn right.
01:13:12
Speaker
Um, no, well, the, the weird thing is Rob black has a history of this too. Right. Which is that XPW for a time in 2002, 2003 had an excuse. So after ECW died, a lot of Indies were using the ECW arena as they do now. Right. But there was a time period for like maybe a year, a little, a little less where he got nicks again, this was a California based promotion.
01:13:38
Speaker
And he got an exclusive contract to do wrestling shows at the ECW arena, shutting everyone out, but then not drawing nearly enough money to fly a bunch of talent across the country for an indie show. It's very strange. I was watching a lot of it at the time because Shane Douglas was not just in it, but booking.
01:14:01
Speaker
So I was like, I wasn't intrigued by that. And so I was actually, this was in college and I was literally trading for tapes.
01:14:08
Speaker
to get this, I was like sending, I was trading physical VHS data. I was collecting Kellogg's box tops and sending five of those in with the shipping and you get the XPW show. I mean, we were doing trades, I was trading them something else, you know? I know, I never got to do that. I always hear that everybody got to do it and it sounds fun and I was just, I'm making fun because I didn't get to play.
01:14:36
Speaker
Garrett, it's fun. It's fun. It's fun until they don't send you the the other guy doesn't send you stuff. Oh, you got screwed. The XPW guy was bad. Oh, yeah. No, exactly. Rob Black and I were pen pals and I didn't know we were just writing. And, you know, he was just sending me I thought he was just being nice and sending me VHS tapes. But it turns out a lot of them were pornography.
01:15:05
Speaker
which I'm sure at that age, you also weren't mad about. I, you know, Garrett, I would, I would never lower myself to, to do that unless the pornography came with some articles and it's better if there's substance, it's better if there's substance too. Like, like, why couldn't Mandy Rose just pose for Playboy? So I could also read an article and feel better.
01:15:37
Speaker
Why don't you hop on the Wall Street Journal, put that on one thing, throw her 15 bucks for her website, and then you read one, you look at the other, you feel smart, you feel like you paid somebody for their wares, and bing, bang, boom, you're a horny genius. It's your own version of Playboy, right? Just build your own Playboy.
01:16:07
Speaker
Oh, you could, any articles you want. It's just, what are you interested in? I'm reading, I'm reading it for the article, sweetheart. What are you doing? I'm doing my own research. That's what Drake Younger would tell you he would do. His own research. Drake Younger does his own

Cryptocurrency and Wrestling Finances

01:16:27
Speaker
research. There's the title of the show this week. I don't want him listening to this. He can listen.
01:16:37
Speaker
I guess. I mean, we are part of the conspiracy against him, Garrett. I mean, he can know that. I don't mind. I don't mind letting it out. Who's paying us to do this? It's actually George Soros. No, he's not involved in in wrestling podcast, Garrett.
01:16:58
Speaker
Not only are we podcasters, we're crisis actors. You may see us at different crises around the country. Right, right. And look, the reason why the show has been a little bit different the last few weeks is that we haven't been getting paid because the guy who's bankrolling us, Sam Bankman Freed, definitely kind of going to jail. And we were getting paid in crypto, Garrett. We should have asked for cash.
01:17:26
Speaker
we should have known better. And you know what? He stopped sending it, so we started talking penis holes. And I think the problem was we didn't start hot with the penis holes this time.
01:17:38
Speaker
No. And frankly, Garrett, I think we should have known that if we were going to trust a cryptocurrency, we shouldn't have trusted Okada bucks. But he's so handsome. He smells good. It made sense to me. Why not Okada bucks? I get it. We just we didn't make the right call. The valuation is tumbled, Garrett.
01:18:04
Speaker
And the hundreds of thousands of dollars we were paid for podcasts earlier this year are now really worth, you know, less than a Drake younger payout for an XPW show. And not nearly as much as Mandy Rose made tonight.

Wrestling Controversies and Fan Reflections

01:18:23
Speaker
Did he get kicked out of WWE or did he willingly go? No, I think he got kicked out. He got kicked out.
01:18:30
Speaker
Was it because of flat earther things? It seems like that was probably part of his day too. I mean, just being just generally, I think he was being a crazy, abrasive person. He did such a good job for years of seeming just like a normal referee. He also was showing some pictures that were inappropriate. He and Mandy Rose is actually kind of the same guy.
01:18:53
Speaker
Very, very similar. It's just, I don't know. I honestly shouldn't impugn Mandy Rose that way. No, no. Leave her out of this. She was with a nice boy. She was with Jizz or Otis. I feel like if I say Jizz at this point, it was so far removed from the last time that we mentioned him that people have to go too deep back into the catalog. Also, I think inappropriate in this context to say she was with Jizz.
01:19:24
Speaker
I'm no better than the XPW PUDs. No, they're the PUDs of the week, Garrett. You don't have to. I'm the PUD of the week for just wandering into the wrong room. I just like, what's going on in here? You know, Garrett, if you're self reflective about your PUD status, it just makes you at the very least less of a PUD.
01:19:46
Speaker
Not saying it doesn't make you a pud, maybe we're all puds. Just for watching wrestling. You know, sometimes maybe we're all a little bit of a pud for watching wrestling, but we can not be the kind of puds that wear MAGA hats to get a rise out of a wrestling crowd. And that makes them the pud of the week.

Closing Remarks and Social Media Highlights

01:20:13
Speaker
All right, everybody, thanks for listening.
01:20:15
Speaker
We're at Predetermined Podcast on Instagram. I am at Gartet on Instagram. And at Gartet on Letterboxd. Let's be movie friends. There you go. I'm at Chris Migs on Instagram. And I guess I'm still on Twitter until that thing explodes. So it seems like soon enough. I want to be there for the end.
01:20:58
Speaker
I had included the Mr. Holland's Opus theme as the final song, but I was worried that the reason it wasn't posting is that iTunes had a program that could tell, you got Opus in there, you don't own Opus, we know you ain't Dreyfus. And so I removed, I cut it from 40 seconds to five seconds, still wouldn't both, took it out completely. And then it just, the episode doesn't flow as well without the Opus. So just know,
01:21:03
Speaker
I do need to let everybody
01:21:28
Speaker
A handful of people did get to hear it with the Opus before it disappeared. No Opus, no. Go listen, friends, go listen to the Opus right now. Go listen to the Opus, it's on all the streaming services. Hey, hit your goddamn Opus, hit our goddamn music.
