Introduction and Teasers

00:00:00
Speaker

00:00:11
Speaker
And on today's episode, we're talking about the role of a manager. um Before we jump into the episode, your girls are working on a little something-something for the month of June.
00:00:25
Speaker
And y'all ain't ready. I don't think y'all ready for this.
00:00:30
Speaker
We can't really say too much about it without giving it away. But just keep your eye out.

WWE and Ronda Rousey Discussion

00:00:40
Speaker
Definitely keep an eye out.
00:00:42
Speaker
We'll be posting closer to the time yeah ah that surprise, surprise. Okay. So there are some rumors going around that WWE is interested in bringing Ronda Rousey back.
00:00:58
Speaker
No. I'm just say leave that there I don't want it no point. We don't need her back. didn't even need her to begin with. That. That is facts.
00:01:09
Speaker
And then like you have so much new talent, so just leave it alone. Right. so much You have so new talent.

Role of Wrestling Managers

00:01:14
Speaker
If you bring her back, you're just going to squash other talent to have her be arrogant yeah and think that she can just get whatever she wants.
00:01:24
Speaker
So. Boomastic side eye. You can just leave her where she's at. We don't need her. Thank you. Thank you. Come again.
00:01:36
Speaker
So over the course of wrestling history, we always talked about the greats that have stepped into the ring and put not only their bodies, but their minds on the line. But what about those that have stood beside them?
00:01:49
Speaker
The ones who elevated their status, their in-ring charisma? On today's episode, we are diving into the role of a manager, some of our favorite managers in the business, and more.
00:02:01
Speaker
So what is the role of a manager? and manager has a variety of jobs. They can act as a mouthpiece to wrestlers who might not be great on the mic or rarely talk, giving promo support and adding depth with storylines.
00:02:15
Speaker
At ringside, they can hype up their client in the crowd, help come up with in-ring plans to help their clients win matches, distract opponents, or even be an enforcer.
00:02:27
Speaker
Managers typically elevate their clients' presence both in and outside of the ring. So let's get to the Queen's top six favorite managers. Yes. So I will start with Zelina Vega.
00:02:40
Speaker
Zelina Vega began her manager role when she signed into NXT in 2017. After she confronted and slapped Andrade. And then after that, she established herself as Andrade's heel manager in NXT.
00:02:55
Speaker
couple months later, she assisted Andrade in winning the NXT championship at NXT TakeOver War Games. So some managers, they do their deed and walk their client to the ring.
00:03:06
Speaker
So Vega didn't just walk Andrade to the ring. She presented him at the whole package. Despite Andrade, as the majority of us know, he doesn't really speak too good of English. So she was that spokesperson for him She helped build up his career due to her interferences and her mind skills.
00:03:28
Speaker
She stayed getting reactions from the crowd as she was that spicy Latina who knew how to walk that walk and talk that talk. Always doing what needs to be done for her client to get to the top and stay there.
00:03:40
Speaker
After Andrade and Zelina moved to the main roster, she even managed the faction with Andrade, Angel Garza, and Austin Theory. She's a straight boss, okay?
00:03:51
Speaker
And like after one year into WWE, you're already managing multiple people. And I think she made the impact as a manager.

Top Wrestling Managers and Their Impact

00:03:59
Speaker
and she deserves all her cookies. So my first manager is going to be Melina Perez.
00:04:05
Speaker
So back in 2005, Melina debuted in a group called Eminem. She would manage wrestlers Joey Mercury and Johnny Nitro. Or John Morrison, as probably most of you know him as.
00:04:17
Speaker
um She would lead them to Tag Team Gold. Melina was the kind of manager who was heavily involved in the matches as she watched and cheered from ringside, not afraid to make sure that her boys got victory you know by any means necessary.
00:04:35
Speaker
matter what it took, which often included underhanded tactics, Melina's involvement did not just stay at ringside. However, she was involved in high profile feuds and storylines, which included Batista.
00:04:49
Speaker
It was her ability to be present in all matches that helped the tag team win the gold three times. With a blend of charisma, strategy, and character-driven storylines, she was definitely one of the most memorable managers in the WE in the 2000s.
00:05:04
Speaker
Period. So my next one is Paul Heyman. i would say the master of managing. So he was always willing and able to get what his clients deserve and elevate, elevate the foot,
00:05:23
Speaker
elevate their talent. And child, he a great manipulator, storyteller, and hype man all in one, which can also be bad because you never know when to trust the man, given all his history that he has.
00:05:37
Speaker
So starting in 1987 fast talking, Paul E., from fastal paul e WCW to what we know was in fact hardcore ECW. Paul managed many people from Brock Lesnar, CM Punk, and the Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns.
00:05:55
Speaker
Also having some brief alignments with some other WWE stars. Currently, he is aligned with Seth Rollins with Braun Breaker on the side.
00:06:06
Speaker
Paul has created some iconic moments in wrestling, like for one, the rise of the Tribal Chief, And definitely drop some dope promos. And as we all know, when Paul is on the mic, just know it's all eyes on him every time.
00:06:22
Speaker
He will go down to me in history as one of the best managers in wrestling history, if not the greatest. So my next person is also a Paul.
00:06:33
Speaker
We're going to talk about Paul Bearer. Theatrical and rooted in the spooky, Paul is one of wrestling's most iconic managers. An eerie and macabre presence that helped the likes of The Undertaker, Kane, and even Mankind.
00:06:48
Speaker
Paul was more than just a mouthpiece. He had a connection to the unexplained and the otherworldly. Barrow often injected emotional aspects storylines.
00:07:00
Speaker
like revealing that he was Kane's father or turning on The Undertaker after being loyal for years. Every betrayal felt personal, which made his moments at ringside so much more powerful.
00:07:12
Speaker
Unlike most managers who got physically involved, Paul's style was more psychological. His presence alone added to the matches, and he rarely got involved. Paul helped to find the spooky side of wrestling for an entire generation.
00:07:27
Speaker
Not just a manager, he was a world builder and an influencer. Lastly, Marie's. The sexiest of sexy, she would say. One half of the it couple.
00:07:39
Speaker
Marie started off as a personal assistant the and manager for Ted DiBiase in 2010, prior to being released in 2011. So after a few years, she came back in 2016, becoming the manager of her husband, The Miz.
00:07:55
Speaker
At this point in time, Miz's career was somewhat at a standstill. dance still With the bond manager on your side, as we know, it could take you to new heights. Maryse had this charisma and presence that definitely helped boost Miz's persona.
00:08:10
Speaker
Her fashion sense and demeanor coincided with Miz's Hollywood feel. She was darn good at being a heel resulting in inferior in the matches, always causing a distraction, and whatever other tactics just to help.
00:08:24
Speaker
She helped Miz win and retain the Intercontinental Championship. Man, she would get the crowd hated her, which of course as a heel, you should do that. Now, Maryse did not speak too often, but when she did, she was dropping that heat.
00:08:40
Speaker
Miz and Maryse were great together, had the on-screen chemistry, feeding off each other's energy, as one should do, After having their child in 2018, would go part-time and make appearances for storyline purposes.
00:08:54
Speaker
Did you say purposes?
00:09:02
Speaker
You know what I
00:09:12
Speaker
Y'all. I would just say it's morning. is more my final manager is going be luna vashon bold and unorthodox luna's blend of aggression theater and emotion has marked her as one of the top managers of all time instead of being a passive manager like most she was active and confrontational someone who elevated any client that she worked with Off the bat, Luna had a physical look and style unlike any others.
00:09:46
Speaker
She embraced chaos, and her energy complemented the personas of wrestlers she managed, like Goldust and Bam Bam Bigelow. Not just for show, intensity allow her led her to often get physically involved in matches attacking opponents.
00:10:04
Speaker
Luna rejected the diva stereotype. Luna's style was ahead of its time. She paved the way for future generations to embrace roles that were complex, intense, and to break gender roles.

Current Stars and Manager Speculations

00:10:18
Speaker
So as you all know, we always come with the honorable mentions because there is always some. So our honorable mentions are Natalia Neidhart, Lana, Sable, Scarlett, MVP, Jimmy Hart, Vicky Guerrero,
00:10:36
Speaker
Mr. Fuji, Terry Reynolds, Stacey Keebler, Don Marie, and Teddy Long. The way you said Teddy Long.
00:10:48
Speaker
Teddy Long. Jesus.
00:10:53
Speaker
Who do we think could use a manager currently in the WWE? I think, though I think they're going to be split up sooner.
00:11:06
Speaker
But I think that they could have given A-Town Down Under manager. The vibe would kind of be like an ode to Eminem.
00:11:18
Speaker
You know how they're like very flashy, very Hollywood, cetera I feel like they would have benefited from having someone manage them because y'all are doing all these tag team matches, but I am not seeing them in any of the title runs. Exactly.
00:11:37
Speaker
Which I feel like they could. like They could literally take off. They were already like getting all the looks and likes and up there whenever they were pretty active. yeah So need y'all to get it together.
00:11:52
Speaker
But I think Carmelo Hayes is one of mine. um just feel like with the persona he has already that he should have somebody by his side. you know They ah were pushing him and everything and Again, if he had a manager or someone by his side, I feel like that could even take him to the top.
00:12:13
Speaker
I feel like if MVP was still the WWE, I feel like that would be the perfect person. My next person is Maxine Dupree.
00:12:26
Speaker
you know that they're trying to get her to tag with Natalia, but I would rather Natalia manage And I feel like ah we rarely see a woman manage another woman. Yeah. What'd that be about?
00:12:38
Speaker
That would actually be fine. ah Yeah, i definitely I definitely feel like that would be... We could see Nadi more. And Nadi is already pretty much in the role of training individuals anyways. But I feel like it would be... It would just make sense.
00:12:55
Speaker
It would. Y'all need to do more of an Italian. Other than get... I said lira she does lack Mike skills, but not only can she build her Mike skills up, but also like you mentioned earlier, sometimes the ones that lack Mike skills have the managers for those reasons.
00:13:17
Speaker
So, and she is a mid card champ and in order to stay champ, like, I mean, I need you to provide more. And I think a manager would help her stay up there in that champ position, even though she's still there, but,
00:13:34
Speaker
I don't seeing her seeing like her drop promos and stuff would be nice or have somebody for her to drop promos. a I feel the opposite. I feel like ah she would look weird with a manager.
00:13:48
Speaker
like There's just some people whose characters are so law and bland that even a manager, like having a manager is just not going to make sense for them.

Personal Manager Choices and Wrap-up

00:14:02
Speaker
Sorry about that.
00:14:07
Speaker
my bed
00:14:13
Speaker
And my So, Charity, who would you want to manage past, present, living, or dead? Who would you want to manage your character if you were the rest the world?
00:14:29
Speaker
You know, I would say Paul, because, again, well, we have two Pauls. um Paul Heyman, because he does he is known.
00:14:41
Speaker
To help you get to the top. And help you stay there. At whatever cost. But. You said the women are women. So I wouldn't mind a Melina.
00:14:52
Speaker
a Or Zelina. That's able to interfere. And help. while probably If I need help. when i matches If you see me struggling girl. Help me out. I I can see them.
00:15:07
Speaker
Just because. ah can see them obviously then just cause how they were as managers i wouldn't mind having them as my manager i think i would take mvp i just feel like who i would be in the ring would probably be just who i am outside feel like i would fit more and like the hurt business or because i'm just oh we know so just feel like mvp would be a good fit for that type of character yeah um like i could definitely talk i'd
00:15:42
Speaker
I can't roast anybody, but it would be nice not to have to and just have someone else do all that while I'm just putting the hurt down. You know what I'm saying? Putting the hurt down.
00:15:55
Speaker
Yeah, if y'all haven't met Carrie, she's definitely mean.
00:16:02
Speaker
I'm mean, but I'm not. I think it depends. It depends on me, but actually that's all I um um mean to dead If I pick on you, it's because I like you.
00:16:16
Speaker
You know, it's because we're friends and I feel comfortable to pick on you. or I don't like you and I've been roasting you this whole time. just depends.
00:16:28
Speaker
And also, I'm very nice as well, so there's that. you It just, you just have to be a certain individual to get that. That is correct. Sorry.
00:16:38
Speaker
Now me on the other hand, I'm nice. I'm nice.
00:16:45
Speaker
I would say my personality matches like Bianca. ah She ain't nice.
00:16:56
Speaker
yes ah She was. Now she, now she. I don't know where they taken her now. But before, I mean, yeah.
00:17:10
Speaker
I ain't gonna say Naomi because she ain't. I'm Naomi. yeah literally Naomi after the heel turn is Carrie. Naomi before is me.
00:17:29
Speaker
Yeah, we're definitely opposites in that. And it was so funny because we went to SOS yesterday and one of the people like recording the show came up to us and was like,
00:17:43
Speaker
guys, you're front row and you guys are just sitting there like arms crossed. I'm like, what else am I supposed to do with my arms, first of all? Second of all, I'm recording content for the podcast literally every match, so clearly I'm not.
00:17:57
Speaker
And then I was like, third of all, we're clearly standing up for people cheering. I'm sorry. And then I see like, pictures and, like, videos from the show, and everybody else is just sitting there as well, sir. I was about to say, yeah. I'm not going to be, like, jumping up and down and looking mad crazy. Throughout the whole match. Like, I'm in shorts and my legs getting stuck to the chair. I'm not getting up and down, bro.
00:18:20
Speaker
Like, I'm recording content. I'm enjoying the show. And I'm over here picking up the chair with my legs. Yeah, and I don't think anybody watching the show is watching us. Yeah. And if they're watching the crowd, everybody else is also just resting...
00:18:34
Speaker
their face and watching the show and when there's something to react to we react to it i'm like sir would say i've seen some of the pictures like we literally had our phones and was getting content like i would say 90 of the time i had my phone out reporting content so yeah and then like cross it's because whoever's out there i don't care for it exactly like but yeah We were watching. was watching the show. We was sitting comfortable.
00:19:06
Speaker
Sitting whatever's comfortable for us. So we can't. I was like, this is just my face. And I know you ain't talking to me when the whole crowd on the other side is sitting down not at the start of the show. Right.
00:19:18
Speaker
So I don't know who you're talking to. I was like, sta this is just my face. You're not getting red. This is just my face. don't know what to tell you. um But yeah, in today's wrestling world, we don't really see too many managers.
00:19:34
Speaker
The 80s, 90s, and early 2000s had managers on deck. From those who stood silently on the sidelines and those who jumped into the ring, a manager's role should always be to elevate their client in any way, shape, or form.
00:19:49
