Introduction to 'Grid and Glitter' Podcast

00:00:00
Speaker
Hello, friends. This is Grid and Glitter, a weekly podcast dedicated to the power of women's wrestling. My name is Harley Vasquez. I'm Emphir. This week, big show. it is time once again for our annual women's wrestling draft.
00:00:13
Speaker
This is rather new tradition. started a couple years ago. Every spring, every April, we do a women's wrestling draft where Em and I bring on two unsuspecting suckers. I mean, two beloved new friends.
00:00:25
Speaker
and four of us compete to draft women from various wrestling promotions in order to see who can make the best roster, who deserves the keys to the booking committee.
00:00:36
Speaker
When Tony Khan decides that running three, four shows is too much for him, needs somebody to take over ROH, it's going to one of us. And this episode is going to determine that.

Harley's Draft Strategy

00:00:46
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. And I mean, in the past, I happen to have done pretty well with these, but you know, we have two pretty formidable guests.
00:00:52
Speaker
um So i don't know. i I feel good about choices I make, but there's, know, there's always the chance that we have, you know, two very cool, very knowledgeable, very savvy people on the podcast. And they just, they, through their, you know, talent and skills and cunning, ah you know,
00:01:13
Speaker
just just outpace me in this process. So I'm always prepared for failure. Yeah, so here's the thing. This is the third annual Women's Wrestling Draft. Brian Bell, friend of the show, hosted sister podcast, LGBT in the Ring, won the first one and won last year.
00:01:26
Speaker
Can't hold against them. That's a fantastic person. I have yet to

Meet Charity and Carrie from Queen's Ring

00:01:30
Speaker
get on the board. So I stacked the deck in my favor this year because our two guests are not only co-hosts of the Queen's Ring podcast, but They're also cousins.
00:01:40
Speaker
They do everything together. They on trips together. They record podcasts together. They do it all. So I'm hoping that they'll cancel each other out. You know, like they'll have the same names on both of this and they'll turn on each other and fight and bicker so much that I'll be able to steal the whole game. That's my plan.
00:01:58
Speaker
I love this. I love how spicy you get with these drafts. Like Harley is, I often, you know, characterize Harley somewhat stereotypically as a sweet Canadian boy.
00:02:09
Speaker
But ah in these draft processes, it brings out a little bit of a dark side with you. i enjoy, I enjoy seeing dark sided Harley. Joining us this week is Charity Davis and Carrie White, the hosts of the Queen's Ring podcast.
00:02:22
Speaker
Yay. Yay. Hello. you for having us. Yes, thank you. And we don't fight and bicker.
00:02:33
Speaker
Oh, just wait wait. till Wait till she takes the person that's on the top of your list. This is exciting. I'm ready to see how it goes. were We're here to create, we're here to take friendships. We're here to take bonds and destroy them.
00:02:52
Speaker
and

Draft Rules and Categories

00:02:54
Speaker
Well, first off, for our listeners, tell them a little bit about the both of you and about your podcast. So we debuted in 2024 is whenever we actually released our first episode. It was WrestleMania weekend.
00:03:10
Speaker
We are cousins, as Harley said. We actually met in 2023.
00:03:17
Speaker
So we did not grow up together. But when we met, that mom was just like, We did grow up together.
00:03:28
Speaker
Yeah, so we go to, we have built relationships with a lot of indie wrestling companies out here. yeah, yeah I mean, that's really it. We're trying to get out here and go to travel to different states to learn more about other indie wrestling. We have gone to WWE, AEW before in Seattle. We are based in Seattle.
00:03:52
Speaker
And that's about it. Charity, do you expect that you and Carrie probably have, like, have you shared your list with each or are you keeping it in secret? We keeping it a secret.
00:04:06
Speaker
do you so Do you think she probably has some overlap with you on some of your names? no not for ah No, not really. Because i feel like we kind of like different people.
00:04:19
Speaker
so we may or may not get tied up in having the same names it just honestly depends on who it is yeah i think we'll be okay yeah

Initial Draft Picks and Strategies

00:04:32
Speaker
yeah i was gonna say carrie is there one wrestler that you like male female present or past that you really love and charity can't stand um yeah dalton ziggler yes oh my god i cannot stand ah
00:04:50
Speaker
That is true. ah explore can i Can I please ask, I know that we have a big draft to get to, but please explain just briefly the the ah adoration of one Mr. Dolph Ziggler.
00:05:04
Speaker
mean, don't know. I just always love his charisma, um his athleticism, and Charity just hates him. Anytime I bring him up, she gets like this look on her face So she doesn't like him.
00:05:20
Speaker
and I think it's more so. He was a good, you know, there are good heels that really make you hate them. He was so cocky, so arrogant. Like I literally hated him. So that is why I'm not knocking his talent or anything. He is very talented, but his persona, oh. god
00:06:10
Speaker
Alright, for any first time listeners, here's how the draft concept works.
00:06:41
Speaker
The four of us will take turns selecting wrestlers in different categories. The categories are WWE slash NXT, AW slash ROH, TNA or NWA, Japan, the Indies, and Wildcard.
00:07:02
Speaker
Our goals are to select one name in each of those categories to create the best all around roster. Turn order will be decided at random. You can start in any category you want any orders. You want to start with AEW, go for it You want to start with Japan, that's your choice.
00:07:19
Speaker
Any women or non-binary wrestlers on those rosters are eligible. If they're not on TV right now, if they're out injured, that's okay. You can still draft them. But if they're like retired or whatever, you know you can't be picking Chyna or Beth Phoenix or somebody for your rat for your draft.
00:07:38
Speaker
Once a wrestler has been chosen, they're off the board. Nobody else can choose them. That's the big key to the draft is to grab the names that you want early before somebody else can get them. Now, you have six picks in six categories.
00:07:52
Speaker
One of those picks has to be a take team. And for your take team, you're picking a duo. So if you want to pick like EOSky and Dakota Kai of damage control, you can do that. you can't draft like all of damage control as your pick.
00:08:10
Speaker
For your teams, we will allow you to use your booking to reunite teams that have broken up in the past. So if you want to get the band back together, you can do that they're in the same company. You can't be like, I'm going draft Sasha Banks and Bailey. They're

Strategic Mid-Draft Picks

00:08:26
Speaker
in different companies now.
00:08:27
Speaker
That's not an option. Okay, so they still have to be in the same company. Yes, but if they're in the same company, you can craft a storyline where they make amends and they get back together. Oh, absolutely. But put that classic classic wrestling tag team story.
00:08:40
Speaker
Also, one of your picks needs to be a non-wrestler, somebody for your broadcast team. That could be somebody who does commentary at ringside, could be a backstage interviewer, a ring announcer. They could be your on-air authority figure, somebody who's doing some sort of non-wrestling capacity.
00:08:57
Speaker
This one's tough. I always know which one Harley's going to go for. Of the other categories, I think everything's pretty self-explanatory. WWE, AEW, TNA, NWA. For Japan, we're seeing wrestlers who are currently wrestling in Japan. So like, for instance, you can't pick Asuka or Eosuke.
00:09:12
Speaker
They'd be in under the WWE category. you can pick Maki Iro. You can pick somebody else from Stardom.
00:09:21
Speaker
And in the category of indies, we're just basically saying anybody who's not signed to WWE, AEW, TNA, and WA, Japan. So it could be an independent wrestler from America, Canada, England, Australia, anywhere else on the planet.
00:09:36
Speaker
And then I forgot. Yeah. Last category, wildcard. Wildcard is basically just a free bonus pick. That can be anybody from any category that you want. So you can take like a second WWE person. You can take somebody from somewhere else.
00:09:50
Speaker
Once the draft has all concluded and this episode has gone live, it will be up to the fine folks of Instagram to vote and decide who the winner is. I think that's everything covered. Is there anything i missed?
00:10:03
Speaker
No, I think that's it. I don't think they have any ones. I think we're good on this end. All right. So thanks to the fine folks at random.org, we will now determine the order of the draft, which is obviously very important to this gameplay.
00:10:21
Speaker
I'm going to hit the button.
00:10:24
Speaker
And it said, ah, Bob, I'm last place again. Master. carried The order, the order will be Carrie, then M, then Charity, then myself. But we are going in snake order. So in round one, it will be Carrie M, Charity Harri.
00:10:41
Speaker
Round two, it'll be Harley Charity M. Carey. I like this. I love being, I'm just going to say, like I love being in the middle. but home there and
00:10:56
Speaker
Okay. With all that said and done, I think we're ready to kick off the 2025 women's wrestling draft. Carey White, you get to make the first draft.
00:11:10
Speaker
of the entire thing, you have six categories you can choose from anybody you want in the world. You have something on your list that you think one of us might take. This is your chance to grab that name. Let's start things off.
00:11:22
Speaker
OK, oh I'm going start it off not with someone I think someone's going to take, but I'm going to start it off with a bonus.
00:11:33
Speaker
And that bonus is going to be a tag team. Okay. And I chose the Kabuki Warriors.
00:11:42
Speaker
Ah, in the category of WWE. ah No, this would be in the bonus. Oh, your wild card? My wild card. Ah, very wild to start with the wild card.
00:11:53
Speaker
Yeah, that's our goal. Nice, Kabuki Warriors is good. i don't i don't watch WWE much these days. How have Asuka and Kairi Usain been doing lately? Well, they're currently injured, so they're not getting anything right now. Yeah, not right now.
00:12:09
Speaker
I have both gotten injured. So you're hoping that they're going to come back from this injury and they're going to be good to go. i am hoping that they will. Otherwise, you just spent a chunk of change.
00:12:21
Speaker
Yeah, otherwise, what am I doing? and all they're doing All they're doing for you is meeting greets. No, I think they'll be coming back. Like, you see them.
00:12:32
Speaker
But they're not in the ring. Like, they're not stepping in because they're still injured. But I'm sure they'll be back. Oh, they'll be back. this What makes them specifically, like, your number one pick, your first choice?
00:12:47
Speaker
um Well, and decided to go with a tag team first just because when I think about the tag teams, I want most of them are not even half half of them might not wrestle anymore or something like that. So I decided to kind of lock in on a tag team.
00:13:08
Speaker
and What I like about them is just together, they have such great energy and chemistry, um great spirit, and like they're just really good performers. and i feel like they kind of took those tag team titles, elevated them. so Yeah, that was a stupid question because it's like, who wouldn't take Oscar? Yeah.
00:13:28
Speaker
So Asuka, she's a good wrestler and she can do everything and she's really entertaining. She's one of the greatest of all time. Why would you want her on your roster? Yeah. please All right. We have kicked things off.
00:13:43
Speaker
Carrie has the Kabuki Warriors under wildcard Your first pick. take ah I'm going to take a note from Carrie and start out with a tag team and because they're both still signed TNA and I believe she is...
00:13:58
Speaker
back from baby leave? I'm not sure. ah got some message from Dawn. Anyway, they're still both technically signed to TNA. So I am bringing back. im reuniting one of my favorite tag teams from recent years, ah courtesy TNA slash impact MK ultra killer Kelly

Concluding the Draft and Final Teams

00:14:14
Speaker
and Masha Slamovich. I loved that story. It was one my favorite, like blossoming into tag team stories from the most recent years.
00:14:21
Speaker
I've missed them working together. So ah I like Jodi threat, but just, I haven't connected with that. but that form of tag team as much as I, could as as much as I love the Masha and Killer Kelly pairing. So I'm bringing them back together. Yeah. Starting with the tape team is a good choice because you get two names off the board right away. Like, you know, Masha Slamovich was my number one pick for TNA.
00:14:44
Speaker
So that screws me right off the bat. Congrats. Yeah. I thought I'd also, you know, mess with you a little bit. Yeah.
00:14:56
Speaker
it is It is kind of a butt move to take Masha. I'm sorry. It is. um But i I don't know. i There's a lot of there there's good tag teams out there. There's a lot of good tag teams, especially like working out in Japan. um But I don't know. I just really loved that pairing and I miss it.
00:15:12
Speaker
So i want to if i'm if I'm making a promotion, if I'm drafting and I get to do all the dream making here, that's part of my dream making. and this scenario, I'm picturing Kelly always has her baby like with her backstage. And so Masha's like, she goes into like anti-Masha mode where she's like babysitting, but they're also like secretly behind Kelly's back training he this like three-month-old child to be a killer. I'm imagining Masha Siamovich as like both trainer slash babysitter slash like like fight mentor, like standing before an infant, teaching them how to like gouge eyes.
00:15:49
Speaker
which babies are naturally inclined to because they have very strong hands grip. So watch your eyes around babies.
00:15:57
Speaker
Cannot, cannot emphasize this enough. Yeah. It's technically a tag team, but you know, it'll be a trio as soon as that kid can walk. All right, Charity, your first pick of the draft.
00:16:08
Speaker
So I'll go WWE and I'll do probably obvious to Carrie, but Bianca Belair. that That's my WWE tag. Oh, not tag.
00:16:23
Speaker
First pick. Is she your number one and all of wrestling right now? Like outside of the draft, is she your fave? Yeah, she's she's definitely one of my favorites. So my three-year-old niece, same.
00:16:36
Speaker
i didn't even know this until recently. Apparently my niece watches wrestling with her dad. Bianca Belair is her favorite. She just loves to point it's like the the little braid and the skipping. Oh, yeah. Bianca is the only action figure that she has, although she did post a picture this week where apparently she got a WWE wwe championship title belt for Easter. Everybody bought her a title belt.
00:16:56
Speaker
How old is she, you said? She's like three. Oh, my gosh. Oh, yeah. She's into it. Yeah, she's taking she's taking them gymnastics and ballet classes already. So like she's on track to being in a wrestler she wants. That's a good first step at three.

Voting Instructions and Social Media Details

00:17:13
Speaker
No, it is for real.
00:17:17
Speaker
But of course, for Bianca, why would I choose her? She's everything. She's a full package. Literally the EST, okay? Strong as this, okay?
00:17:31
Speaker
But yes, that's my pick. All right. One of my first round picks did get taken off the board. Luckily, I've still got a bunch of others and I get to make the next two picks. So here's where I make my comeback.
00:17:45
Speaker
My, you know what, my number one in all wrestling right now, going to take her. the category of Willow Nightingale. You love yourself some Willow. For years, you know, ever since on the... I know. And it's such, it's so hard it's so hard work because when we saw her in the indies, it's like, she's great.
00:18:04
Speaker
She's like the perfect baby face. I'm a baby face wrestling fan. You know, some people are like, I love heels more. Me, I'm all about the baby faces. i love a good baby face who has a spine.
00:18:14
Speaker
who isn't like a pushover, isn't like ah like a wimp whatever. And that's what it was, right? Like she smiles, she's like a nice person, she's great, she has a lot of friends, but when the time comes, she'll put her hair, she'll kick ass, she'll hit you with light tubes, she doesn't care. We've seen on the Indies, she'll bust a man, she'll bust a woman, anything.
00:18:31
Speaker
And years past, it would have been so...
00:18:37
Speaker
10 years ago, probably wouldn't got somebody looking like Willow in a big company like AEW or w WWE, getting the push that she's gotten, getting to be the position she has. Usually if you were any sort of a bigger person, especially a bigger woman, you'd be a monster heel.
00:18:53
Speaker
That's the only avenue that we see for you, either monster heel or comedy figure.
00:19:00
Speaker
I mean, there. i think it's wonderful to see someone who can play like charismatic and charming and upbeat at while also being a a powerhouse.
00:19:10
Speaker
Like I just you don't see it enough like that is almost always played with intimidation. rather than with like exuberance. um So yeah, it's I mean, it's wonderful. It's a wonderful ah counterbalance to a lot of what we usually see with like more monster, like but even when they're not heels, but just like more like grim or stoically played powerhouses.
00:19:34
Speaker
Willow's got a ton of personality in addition to just being like, you know, just like a rough, like a buff, bruising cruising wrestler.
00:19:46
Speaker
All right, that's round one done. i get to kick off round two now. I don't think there's anybody else on my list that I'm worried about anybody taking. so I can kind of go wherever wherever I want now.
00:19:58
Speaker
i
00:20:03
Speaker
All right, I chose the best baby face, in my opinion, and in North America. So why don't I just keep that ball rolling and go with, in my opinion, again, the best baby face in all Japan.
00:20:16
Speaker
In the category of Japan, I'm going with the ace of stardom, Mayuri Wadani. Again, I don't want to say that I can predict you, but I can predict you. See, I thought this was me changing this up a little because I feel like the last two years I probably chose Tam Nakano.
00:20:35
Speaker
But I thought, you know what? Mayuri is arguably the best wrestler on the planet, so why be dumb and not choose her? i mean like ah when i think of stardom and i think of you essentially like three wrestlers and mayu is up at the top is is one of one of them so if it's not tam um and it's not you know someone who's retired then like it's it's mayu yes shout out to the little giant side either also yeah for the death but uh sorry she's not making my draft offense my we want me again you know i'm not going to talk for 10 minutes about this although i could
00:21:13
Speaker
She's great. She's done everything there is just doing stardom. She's been the Japan women's champion for a while now. i want to say almost like a year, maybe even more. she's She's tremendous. She's amazing. I got to see her wrestle in person last year, WrestleMania week for Spark Joshi, which was like a bucket list item for me.
00:21:32
Speaker
And just so she's just so cool and so so normal and like ordinary and relatable and fun. um I can't believe and Her movie hasn't come to America or Canada yet, has it?
00:21:44
Speaker
Or streaming? i haven't i mean it's not it's not on and don't think it's on our continent. Yeah, I need to see that biopic once they get subtitles on it. All right, round two Charity, it's back to you.
00:21:55
Speaker
Let's see what I'm going to do this time. You know what? I think I'm going to Japan, too. And I'll go with Momo Watanabe. Oof.
00:22:08
Speaker
ah You see him? She's also my top five. I haven't watched Stardom in a couple of years, but when I did watch Stardom, like 2019, 2020, I was obsessed with Momo. During her Queen's Quest era, I was like, she's... Honestly, the fact... Part reason I stopped watching Stardom was because I would get so worked up and so annoyed that Momo and Jungle Kiona weren't getting bigger pushes and weren't getting the red belt. And I was like, you know what?
00:22:34
Speaker
Fuck Rossi Ogawa. I'm not watching this anymore.
00:22:39
Speaker
no she's definitely a beast and she has that edge so I was like oh yeah I gotta pick her I love her I really do like Momo I feel like does not get into the main conversation about you know when we talk about stardom wrestlers I just I don't feel like she gets said enough like people recognize that she is so talented and like you know, everyone working in stardom is working at a certain level.
00:23:02
Speaker
um But like, I just don't think that she gets the credit she deserves. And that era, that Queen's Quest era of Momo is so good. Nice pick, nice pick. Yeah.
00:23:13
Speaker
Man, yeah, that's a good pick, damn.
00:23:19
Speaker
Wait, was it yours? No, it wasn't, but it's a good it it's a good pick. it I kind of wish it had to be mine. Em, you're number two. Yeah. um I'm torn. i'm torn because I think i'm going to do Japan too. I think I'm going to pick a wrestler from japan um And I'm really torn. i love and love so many... Joshi.
00:23:42
Speaker
I love so many Japanese women wrestlers. And I love so many different styles in that because they all... like There's so many different ways to be a brilliant, like just unstoppable wrestler.
00:23:55
Speaker
um But I have a soft spot for the women who are working like a stiff style. I really do. I always have. You're going to take Yoshihiko. Yeah. You know?
00:24:07
Speaker
being afraid of all multi multi Multi-time champion. um I'm torn between two, but I think I'm going to stick with someone that I have talked about off and on for years and years, who I just adore, and that's Miyu Yamashita.
00:24:22
Speaker
um TJPW. Former EVE champion. Works and like works every continent. um Is everywhere. And will kick your head off.
00:24:34
Speaker
Like... will we'll kick you into oblivion. um i love getting to see Miyu working on the occasional stateside dates that she had she has to do i believe that she was here during the um during wrestlemania weekend working some collective shows etc um i think she does so fantastic i love her deadpan style i love like when she's had to do promos um in ring like in english speaking promotions i just love how like she is real sardonic and real clipped with people and plays face but in that like kind of classic like warrior
00:25:10
Speaker
uh, warrior way. Um, yeah, I love her. Um, I was torn because I was thinking maybe this time around I would go with Shuri. Cause I really love her style and love her like strong, her strong style of wrestling, but I'm going I'm going to keep with my, with my girl, Miyu.
00:25:26
Speaker
ah so in Pittsburgh we got to see her in person I enjoy I think that's like what kind of tips it over for me with her that's always kind of a tipping point when you get to see somebody live for the first time I feel like it makes you love them so much more I think it's also like it sold to me her presence because I always enjoyed watching her but like when I got to see her live there she has a palpable energy that is like hard to capture in streaming but immediately felt when she is in her room um It's quiet and powerful and magnetic. And just really love that. I love when wrestlers have kind of an intangible quality that can't be captured from on screen. Like you really have to be in that presence.
00:26:02
Speaker
And she has it in abundance. I just, I think she's fantastic. And again, i think I think she is someone who gets credit, but maybe not quite as much credit as she deserves. All right, Keri, finish off round two.
00:26:15
Speaker
I'm going to go with the WWE I'm going to pick Chelsea Green. I wasn't a pick of mine, but I just love that pick.
00:26:29
Speaker
Okay. I have like endless love for Chelsea Green. Yeah, i I actually wasn't a big fan of her in the beginning. Yeah. Then i kind of went back and watched some of her stuff outside of the WWE.
00:26:45
Speaker
And that kind of made me like her even more so. So I picked her just because of her. She's like a character queen. like yeah Any character that she takes, she makes it her own. And kind of like that.
00:26:58
Speaker
yeah Yeah, I love that. Okay, nice round two. All
00:27:06
Speaker
right, and Kira, have to go again to start round three. I forgot about that. Hold on. She said, hold on a second. um I'm going to go with TNA. And I will do Tasha Steeles.
00:27:19
Speaker
Amazing pick. Yeah, that was my other pick. So my DNA is getting just drying up. Hey, you still have Ash by Elegance, Harley. Don't you forget. And Heather by Elegance and Maggie by Elegance. You've got...
00:27:34
Speaker
You've got some options. um Tasha Steeles is such a good pick. um I have loved her for so long. I mean, I talked about her when we used to do the ROH podcast because she would occasionally be on like, like she would occasionally do women's matches for ROH. I just think she's the best. So underrated for so long. It was really great to see her good get a decent push in Impact TNA.
00:27:57
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. I really like her. And I think she's very versatile so i like i like seeing her presence in the ring so. Hell yeah. And she's someone like TNA is such a limited roster but they're not really doing much with her right now. She's just kind of hanging out with Mustafa Ali. She's like part of his entourage.
00:28:16
Speaker
yeah Yeah it always like baffles me when since they have such a small roster that yeah more things aren't going on with other people but Maybe we should take over TNA guys.
00:28:32
Speaker
You know what? Let's go.
00:28:35
Speaker
In any company that's going to fire, like fire Gail Cam and hire Tessa Blanchard badly needs new management.
00:28:45
Speaker
and
00:28:48
Speaker
Okay. yeah Number three. I'm going to go ahead and do this because I've made through a couple rounds now and I don't want Well, I don't think you're going to you would pick her anyway, but I'm go ahead. I think I'm going to stick with my powerhouse theme here. My like kind of like dark energy. And I'm going to go ahead and snap up Rhea Ripley from WWE.
00:29:12
Speaker
Because if you listen to this podcast, you know that I'm a fan. I mean, you don't really need an explanation. Right. right i'm I'm a fan. of but Purely professionally. not Like, no, no, no other reasons at all.
00:29:33
Speaker
it is understood And Charity, I'll tell you, Vee Ripley is my Dolph Ziggler. I don't understand. You might have to do this podcast right now, actually. I don't know. I think this is the first time that Harley has said this out loud.
00:29:52
Speaker
um I've always felt this energy from you, Harley, but I didn't know this. So um I'm putting in my resignation.
00:30:01
Speaker
i think she's fine. fine. I think...
00:30:10
Speaker
she my Okay, so for me, i've been thinking about this. For me, Rhea Ripley is like the Lady Gaga of WWE, where I'm like, you're competent and you can do all the right things, but you for for me, you just feel like a watered-down version the person that you're trying to, you know? I'm like, okay, like, yeah, Rhea Ripley's fine, but like, I already saw China. i don't need to see China yet.
00:30:33
Speaker
Lady Gaga, I'm like, I get it. Like, Madonna was great. I understand why you want to be Madonna. Yeah. No, that's how I feel about Roxanne Perez. I think it's a combination of all of a bunch of former wrestlers prior to her that she looked up to and that's why I can't stand her.
00:30:52
Speaker
She's not herself. We will stand her to the moment. friend of the show, Roxanne Perez. I hope she's not yeah so right not listening. Yeah, former guest of the show. Yeah. She was a guest of the show like prior to like getting signed, etc. She is not actually a listener. regardless. Consider her girlfriend.
00:31:14
Speaker
said i stand. I stand by what I said. I said what I said. Exactly. oh All right, Charity, your pick number three.
00:31:26
Speaker
You know what? I'll go ahead and go with TNA since it is getting a little dry over there. I'll do Steph Delander. Another one where ah she might be injured right now, right? Because I was going to say another one where she's not doing anything really. She's dating Mance Warner and kayfabe and that's kind of it. But I think she is recovering from injury right now.
00:31:47
Speaker
Well, when she first came in, like she came in fierce and dominant and just, you know, talking her shit. And guess what? I'm a shit talker.
00:31:57
Speaker
But no, I love her. I'm just going to ahead and go with her. She's like a Chelsea Green where, yeah, she can she can be very funny, very entertaining if need be, but she'll also be like a really good powerhouse wrestler.
00:32:13
Speaker
Yeah. All right. Back to me. Let's see. I have two bubbly. Okay. So again, you know, as I've shown,
00:32:25
Speaker
um I'm drawn to the Willow Nightingale, so the Maiyurawani is a willow. Maybe that's why you know we have Reply, it's not for me. She's not bubbly enough or perky enough for me. Yeah. So for my third pick, I'm going to do a little bit, somebody, I'll lean to this, I'll do somebody a little bit darker to contrast with the Willow and the Maiyur on my by roster.
00:32:46
Speaker
Somebody who can do a bunch of different things. In the indies, I'm going with Dark Sheik. All right. um Again, I'm just like, i mean, obviously, i like always I'm a fan of choosing these people. But in my mind, you know, can do no wrong.
00:33:03
Speaker
Can do comedy. Can do serious. Can do technical wrestling. Can do high-flying. Can be a heel if you need her to be Can be but you face if you need her to be. And hell a booker.
00:33:16
Speaker
We'll give my roster some great help behind the scenes crafting storylines as well. And for my fifth, no, my fourth, my fourth pick. Okay. So I've got WWE, TNA, and Wildcard left on the board.
00:33:31
Speaker
And I still need my, I'm just going to, I've given up on, I don't know what to do for TNA now because I had Masha and Tasha. That's my top two. So I'm out of ideas.
00:33:43
Speaker
Let's worry about that later. I'm going to take my commentator or my backstage interviewer. You know what I'll be the first person taking an interviewer. And I'm going to go to WWE, oddly enough, for this one.
00:33:57
Speaker
I'm going to go to WWE, and I'm going to take Kathy Kelly. Yes. That's a good one. said, i i don't watched i haven't watched WWE full-time in years and years, but I looked over their roster trying to figure out who can I take.
00:34:13
Speaker
And I was like, right, I remember really liking Kathy Kelly. and I remember her coming across as like, so many of the w it's so hard to be a backstage interviewer in WWE, I feel like, because they don't give you things to do, you know, like you stand there and you ask one question and then the rest of goes off in a five minute promo and you stand there. You don't get to like really show personality. A lot of times they don't even get names on air.
00:34:34
Speaker
But I remember Kathy, like Renee Paquette, getting personality cross anyway. Like I'd watch her and be like, oh yeah, i like her. i I know who she is. Yeah. And I think now she's getting like her own signs in the crowd. So.
00:34:49
Speaker
So I'll go ahead and go with my interviewer, AEW, and I chose Renee. Okay, that was a take from me. I was going to do Renee. Damn.
00:35:01
Speaker
Yeah, one of the ah one of the best in the bed is when she gets the opportunity to, like, again, she's just, like, so strong. And, I mean, we see this with, when anytime her and, like, RJ City get to, like, co-host a pre-show something together, she's just, she's so charming.
00:35:16
Speaker
Yeah. Yes. I was like, I was a big fan of her. Definitely in WWE. Like I loved her. And then, so just seeing her go to AEW and how she's been doing there. Always been a fan. i Always will be a fan.
00:35:29
Speaker
So that's my girl.
00:35:33
Speaker
All right. Um, you have AEW, the Indies and a wild card left. I know. Wow. I really have that much, huh? Okay. Um,
00:35:45
Speaker
Hmm. I'm trying to think of, well, cause I was gonna, I was gonna scoop up Renee. um and, but now I have to rethink my non-wrestler. Uh, so, okay.
00:35:57
Speaker
So I've got kind of this like dark powerhouse thing going and I'm torn if I want to throw a crayon into this, uh, box of black markers. or if I want to continue and just build like a whole badass roster, like specifically of that kind of tone.
00:36:15
Speaker
um So with that in mind, think I'm, okay. So I think I'm going to do something that will make Dawn Halliwell very happy and will show that I have grown as a person and a fan, and I'm going to sign Megan Bain off of the AEW roster.
00:36:35
Speaker
Here's the thing. Until recently, i did not like Megan Payne. Not dislike. She just didn't do anything for me. ah kind of found her very, very boring.
00:36:47
Speaker
But I don't know if I'm like, I don't know if I've just been won over by how much Dawn enjoys Megan. Maybe I've like, I've seen more of her work recently. I've liked, I've actually really liked what they got to do with her in AEW recently.
00:37:01
Speaker
ah maybe it was partially the Tony Storm effect of like having her rope like rub off on Megan, like have her like charisma in this current storyline work in Megan's favor.
00:37:12
Speaker
But I also think she'll fit in really nicely with my like my group of badasses. So yes, let's sign Megan Bain.
00:37:21
Speaker
And maybe we can work on getting her a little bit more personality.
00:37:27
Speaker
before it is trying You know, we can we can help. I bet I bet we can do it with the right. You know, it worked for. and Hey, I didn't think Tony Storm had much of a personality and now abundance.
00:37:41
Speaker
So, you know, it's just just the right writers, the right story. We can figure it out. We'll make it work. She can leave Joey Janelle at home, please.
00:37:52
Speaker
Like he doesn't have to come anywhere near my promotion, please.
00:37:59
Speaker
No way neither. We'll keep a nice, a reasonable distance away from Mr. Janela.
00:38:10
Speaker
Okay. home I think I'm going to go with AEW. And I'm going to pick Mariah May. Oh, yeah. As far as we know, she's still AEW for the time being.
00:38:24
Speaker
Yeah, she's still AEW for the time being. um i just think she's naturally magnetic. I love that like she presents herself as a star, as the top star, even if she's not. um She just gives off that aura and I like that.
00:38:40
Speaker
and Confidence. Period.
00:38:50
Speaker
Okay, we have two rounds left. Things are getting dicey. Carrie, you have Japan and the Indies, and you still need a broadcaster for your team. Yes, okay.
00:39:05
Speaker
I'm going with ah Japan. and um New Japan Pro Wrestling, one of their current commentators, I'm going to go with Veda Scott.
00:39:18
Speaker
All right, we'll allow it, right, Em? Yes, absolutely. a That I'm working the system. Yeah, I kind of just like her energy.
00:39:28
Speaker
big energy person. if I don't like someone's energy, even if they're really good at wrestling or something or at yeah um and kind of just like her energy i'm i'm a big energy person so if i don't like someone's energy they're even if they're really good at wrestling or something or commentating or anything. i I just can't walk Yeah. ah Regular listeners to the show know we were huge veda scott fans around here been on the show many times won many awards in our year-end awards literally the last five years of our year-end awards evade of won like the award for like best non-messler like best broadcaster best commentator veda's won five years in a row to the extent that after last year we had to officially retire her from winning that award she's not allowed to win it anymore
00:40:24
Speaker
let people be like i think somebody else should get a chance yeah i think our compromise was like we'll name the award after her yeah the latest scott award for outstanding performance in a non-wrestling if you win it like five times in a row i think you get the award i think you get retired from the category but you get to be named the category is now named after you Yeah, that makes sense. as well be. But when I kept suggesting it, I kept mistakenly saying the Venus Scott Memorial Award. then I was like, no, no, no, it's not Memorial. She's still alive.
00:40:58
Speaker
They're still alive.
00:41:01
Speaker
who No, don't do that. Although I do think that's kind of funny.
00:41:09
Speaker
All right, um you have two picks left. Yeah, can Your independent pick and your wild card. he Oh, okay. I have a wild card. And I think it's actually a really, well, I guess it could technically be independent. Am I allowed to bring someone out of retirement?
00:41:21
Speaker
Or not retirement, but like, I guess i don't know if you could call it retirement or leaving your job. We said, we said like out of retirement, no.
00:41:32
Speaker
I might... I might be willing to make an exception if there was like a broadcaster. If somebody's like retired, like they're not wrestling anymore, can't make them wrestle again. She's not a wrestler. She is a ah ring announcer. I always really loved her.
00:41:47
Speaker
I think she's adorable and I love her presence in the ring. And I miss her because I didn't even watch so much WWE, but I always liked her when I saw her there. So we're going to bring back, we're gonna for this promotion, we have made a sweet deal. We're going to bring back Samantha Urban.
00:42:00
Speaker
As your wildcard. As my wildcard and my broadcaster. Yeah, well, I'll allow because she hasn't been gone that long either. So there's a very good chance that she's not retired. She's just taking a pause. I feel like she's been gone from WWE as long as Renee was before she showed up in AEW.
00:42:16
Speaker
she's She's also married to Ricochet. So she's still like in the wrestling world. like How long could she possibly stay away? Come on. Yeah. Nobody stays away from wrestling. Give me break. Once you get a bit.
00:42:29
Speaker
Yeah. You're, you're like, retired. Sure. We'll see you in five years. Yeah. You go back to the real world and you're like, this sucks. Nobody's cheering for me. Nobody applauds when I walk out of work.
00:42:41
Speaker
Exactly. exactly So to, we're going to make our sweet deal. We'll lure her back. We'll give her a much better contract than I'm sure she was getting in WWE. And yeah, we'll see where it goes from there.
00:42:53
Speaker
But like, I always really liked her. I thought she was really charming. I love her presence. thought she real. Like, I just, yeah.
00:43:00
Speaker
not like She wasn't reinventing the wheel, but I always really liked her announcing style. And I just thought she was pretty fabulous. And i yeah, we need we need more cool ring announcers. And I always thought she was cool.
00:43:13
Speaker
I liked her. I miss her. Okay, so I'll go ahead and do my wild card. We're talking a two-time tag team champions, a dominant brutal force, Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler.
00:43:30
Speaker
who i love I love them together. i didn't expect that. No, me neither. That's that's an interesting one. and So you you really like this tap you really like them as a tag team?
00:43:42
Speaker
Yeah, even though they're like um more ego-wise, more like that about them themselves, but they really did go good together. Yeah, because you didn't like Dolph Ziggler for that reason, so I don't know why picked it. You just don't like Dolph.
00:43:56
Speaker
Yeah, it's just Dolph. She's just like, Dolph. What did he do to you? I don't know. It's just something about him.
00:44:07
Speaker
Him and that greasy blonde hair can get to the back of the line. i I'm fascinated by this Dolph Ziggler because I think he's a fascinating ah fascinating wrestler to have strong feelings about in either regard. Like, he really hating Dolph Ziggler or really loving Dolph Ziggler. I'm just like so neutral.
00:44:23
Speaker
I'm just like, he's a guy. know a lot of people ah really I actually have met a fair amount of people who really like him too, so. I'm just kidding.
00:44:36
Speaker
Again, we've come here to cause ah chaos and confusion. out Break the harmony of cousins.
00:44:51
Speaker
Okay, I have TNA NWA and a wild card left. I still need a take team. nobody None of us have chosen anybody from NWA.
00:45:03
Speaker
And i'm not goingnna I won't either because I don't even know who's in NWA. I just put them there to be nice.
00:45:09
Speaker
i was looking at the page and I was like, WWE slash NXT, AEW slash ROA, TNA. I was like, TNA needs a slash? I'll throw NWA in there.
00:45:18
Speaker
No. Okay. um I'll be honest. I was looking over the TNA roster trying to like come up with names for this. There's no offense to the women over there, but there's not really anybody on TNA roster I'm excited about.
00:45:35
Speaker
i was like, okay, I thought I was i thought i wasn't watching TNA because ah hate Tesla so much and i was watching out of protest. And then I'm looking at it and I'm like, oh I'm watching um also not watching because there's nobody like really excites me.
00:45:47
Speaker
like It's a lot of, I'm like, I like Danny Luna. I like Zia Brookside. I like Ash by Elegance. They're all fine. But not enough for me to out of my way to go like watch the program. Not enough for me to like spend my hard-earned money to bring them over to my company.
00:46:04
Speaker
Masha Slamovich, yes. Tasha Steele, sure. And then I'm stuck. But I have to pick somebody. I have to choose somebody. ah should have chosen GML and as my broadcaster. Oh, well.
00:46:17
Speaker
Okay. I've got Willow Sheik Mayu... Okay, I got Willow and Maya on my babyface side of the ledger. I Sheet potentially on heel side ledger.
00:46:27
Speaker
Somebody else who could fit on the heel ledger, I think. I need a Canadian on my roster. I'm Canadian. Let's go with Rosemary. Always good pick.
00:46:38
Speaker
always good Yeah, i'm I'm by no means like number one huge Rosemary fan of the world, but I like her. i think she's I think she's fine. i think she's good. And I know, much like the Zigglers of the world, huge fan base.
00:46:52
Speaker
People who love Rosemary love Rosemary and they'll all be tuning into my promotion. All right, fair.
00:46:59
Speaker
Fair enough. I mean, like what's to argue with? Like she's had the career that she's had and she is like a standard bearer for TNA at this point. Like she has been through the evolution of this company for so long. Like it's hard to argue with her. So if you're going to build a promotion with somebody like on the ground floor, she's a great person to do that with.
00:47:21
Speaker
She's like a consummate veteran at this point. Yeah. I think I'm a little down on her right now. It's just because they haven't really done much with her lately in TNA either. Like not really anything particularly interesting, but I'm looking at my roster. I'm like, if you booked Rosemary versus Maya Rodney, I'd watch that.
00:47:38
Speaker
I'd be interested to see how that goes. So, or like, it or any sort of like um but long-term storyline between Rosemary and Willow? Mm-hmm. Hell yeah. Let's see Rosemary take Willow to, well, what's Rosemary's evil, the Undead Realm?
00:47:54
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. I'm up for that. Okay, we're almost at the end. We, this is the start of the last round. i have my wildcard pick left.
00:48:05
Speaker
All three of you have your independent picks. So here we go. Here we go. Finishing off my wild card is my take team because I've yet to choose a take team for this roster.
00:48:19
Speaker
And no take team speaks to me more. no take team have I adored more over the past 10 years than Jesse McKay and Cassie Lee, the inspiration.
00:48:33
Speaker
oh very nice.
00:48:36
Speaker
Honest to god Jesse McKay, Billy Kay. top five favorite wrestlers all time. I've just, I decided that recently. <unk>ve I've been doing a ton of research for them for a little, uh, podcast that we're dropping next week.
00:48:49
Speaker
And yeah, she's, where's my,
00:48:58
Speaker
Billy Kay, Bam Bam Bigelow, Bret Hart. Yeah. That's like my top five. She's, she's in my top five. I think. I think that I think she's so funny, so entertaining. And I think they are better in the ring than WWE gave them the chance to show people.
00:49:14
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, I mean, I I there's it's hard to it's hard to argue with that, too, because like because we've been working on this, um you know, deep dive into their.
00:49:26
Speaker
their work with you know both within w wwe and outside of it like they just have so much personality and they are also when allowed to really fun to watch and ring as wrestlers they just they were hampered a bit by what they're allowed to really do um wrestling wise within wwe and their characters that they had built but like it's just they're so good at it and they have such good chemistry they like they're of the of the tag teams and I'm talking about all tag teams, not just women's tag teams of the tag teams last decade. Like they have some of the most like natural chemistry, like the most like natural chops when it comes to, to working off of each other, to playing off of each other, to playing off other people as a pair. They're just so good.
00:50:11
Speaker
That's my big thing too, is, They're not they're like sisters. They might as well be, basically. But they're like a Young Bucks. They're like a Motor City Machine Guns, where it's like they're a tape team. And there they did some solo work against the will.
00:50:24
Speaker
But predominantly, the that's where their interest lies. Their interest in being a tape team and working together as a tape team and doing that sort of thing. And in women's wrestling, especially in North America, it's so rare for any duo to stick together longer than like a year, year and a half.
00:50:42
Speaker
yeah All right, Charity, your independent pick to close out the draft. All right, so my independent pick is Tiny Tana Lee. I don't know if y'all know who she is, but she is a short and mighty strong wrestler. She goes, she refers to herself as the suplex queen.
00:51:05
Speaker
um I've been following her for a long time. ah just love her in general. she her promos and everything she's good at that and again just badass to be honest yeah i can see i can say i've never heard that name before again tiny tonally t-a-n-a-i-l-y yes and she's four nine is she based out of your like your area out of washington
00:51:37
Speaker
No, she is not. um I think it's the south. Because I moved up here. So I basically was watching her before I moved out to Seattle.
00:51:50
Speaker
She's from Florida. Orlando. Cool. ah we're I'm adding her to our watch list to check out. And I feel bad for when you book her against Steph Delander in your promotion.
00:52:05
Speaker
Yes. that' All right. m Your last pick in the category of the Indies.
00:52:16
Speaker
Okay. So again, I'm like, do I throw a fun, like sprightly, colorful person in the midst of all of these like brim-faced, like, you know Badasses. And the answer is no, I think I'm double down. I think I'm going to round it out here and i'm go throw a monster into the into the mix.
00:52:33
Speaker
And I'm going to sign Max the Impaler because I love them and think they're amazing and um love that they have gotten to do so much. um i mean, wait, so I can count Max as Indy, right?
00:52:45
Speaker
I know that they have been in NWA. Yeah, they're in NWA, but they still do a lot of independent stuff.
00:52:56
Speaker
I'm going throw it to Carrie and Charity. Are we going allow this? i mean, i would say yes if they're also going to the indie shows and doing bunch of indie shows across. So I say yes.
00:53:08
Speaker
All right. i have I have one vote. Charity. I'm fine with that. I mean, they were just on the vote. If Em wins the whole draft, then I'm blaming it on you two. But okay, we'll allow it.
00:53:23
Speaker
I'm slatted in on a loophole. um
00:53:28
Speaker
well um yeah They were just on Big Day Brunch. So like, don't know, they're still definitely doing independent dates. And like the way the and NW works being so nebulous anyway with signings and contracts, et cetera, I don't know that like, I don't feel like if you're signed to the NWA, it means you're completely out the Indies. There's lots of, and especially when like they partner with so many Indie promotions,
00:53:49
Speaker
to be their like wings of this ah this expansion that i i feel I feel confident in this pick. But yeah, ah why not? Don't we wanna see this? Don't we wanna see these all oh badass roster, all this entire like this promotion that it just consists of nothing but people who are going to murder you in the ring.
00:54:09
Speaker
I mean, i I just, I want and want my promotion to fight another promotion. I don't want even want these people to fight each other. I want them to like invade other promotions and just fight all of them.
00:54:21
Speaker
was going to say, you got Rhea Ripley, Megan Bain, Miu, Max. Which two are you pairing up to face MKUltra? I need someone to pair with Megan because I need someone to give Megan um personality.
00:54:36
Speaker
So maybe I give, maybe Megan and Max work together somehow. I don't know how that's going to work. Max doesn't talk. Megan doesn't really talk. um You doesn't speak English.
00:54:49
Speaker
um So maybe Rhea Ripley is our is our our golden child here. I don't know. Rhea Ripley is our mouthpiece. Rhea Ripley is our, oh God, I really have done it, haven't I? I have not given us promo heat here.
00:55:00
Speaker
We are not known for our words. Yeah. meha ivin welcome back to wrestling by the way by the way addition to ring announcing can you also be a manager can you also speak for every single person on this roster because none of these people are well mk ultra could do some fun promos um but yes i i've hamstrung myself a little bit there but i'd like to think that like our actions speak louder than our words yeah you do as a promo put some subtitles on killer kelly's baby does a promo put some subtitles on Yep, yep, yep, yep,
00:55:34
Speaker
action more than words so you know we go we'll literally we'll just be called like shut up and fight ah uf
00:55:46
Speaker
so spark to it okay we're goingnna put up we go put that on the on the vision board
00:55:52
Speaker
Carrie, got the first pick of the whole thing. The last pick of the 2025 women's wrestling draft in the category of the Indies. Yeah, I picked Maya World.
00:56:06
Speaker
Oh, that's such a good pick. I love Maya World. Yes, I like her too. ah She's you know the current Heart of Texas Women's Champion at the moment.
00:56:18
Speaker
ah Just seeing her in the ring, she just looks like a natural. She's very agile. And feel like people really like her because she has like a relatable vibe to her. But she's just a natural in the ring. Like watching her um perform all the moves and fly in and bend in. and Yeah, I really like her. I've been watching her.
00:56:42
Speaker
Like she caught my eye a couple months ago. So I've been watching ah little bit of her stuff. I'd have to imagine she gets picked up by one of these big companies in the next year or two. She's in Texas.
00:56:52
Speaker
Like, it's it's only ah it's only a matter of time. She's in ROW, so, like, she's... They've are... like We know how... it The ROW especially is this play is the place for for women who want to potentially get signed to the WWE. Like, honestly, it's fascinating those who have done really well and been highlighted champions at r ROW who haven't gotten signed cop-cop-cop-py-ending cop-cop-cop.
