I mean, we had some summers where I can remember my sisters had some summer flings. that it was fun. Let's talk about it, Nancy Lindsay. Listen, I feel like it was it was fun to get excited about seeing friends that we only saw like once a year, right? Like it's a different relationship to be on a lake and it they can do, they have different skills like of like, they know how to drive a boat. They can they do water sports. Like I love water sports. You're the guys' different skills.
00:00:37
Speaker
yeah yeah Welcome to Three Little Fishes. We're three sisters who grew up in the Midwest together, but have since spread across the country. i live in Los Angeles. I'm in Nashville. And I live in Philadelphia. We are all married with children, have all had careers, but now we stay at home with our families. Join us as we share secrets and stories about being women, wives, and mothers. We welcome you to laugh along, learn something new, reach out, and join our conversation.

Linda's Dental Dilemma

00:01:09
Speaker
So let's jump in.
00:01:12
Speaker
What's up, fishes? What's up, fishes? Good to see you. Linda, you're back home. am. Like, what happened? You were supposed to be ah with mom and dad on vacation, but you're not. You're back at your home alone.
00:01:27
Speaker
home plate. Back in Nashville, I got an abscessed tooth up on the lake. My first toothache, which by the way, is a horrific thing to experience.
00:01:38
Speaker
I literally thought, I'm going to go into the tool shed and get a set of pliers and rip my tooth out. Like it was horrible.
00:01:50
Speaker
You're like ah you Tom Hanks in Castaway. Like where he's... takes five percent like It was so painful and i did not get a baby out of it so
00:02:05
Speaker
I'm on the mend. I get to have my first root canal on Friday. and um it's good times here. And then I also have a sick dog. So it was like the two things together was like the signal from the universe that it's time to get in the car and go home and get around my doctors, my people, my home base. So we're moving forward. It's going to be okay. But it was it's been a brutal like five or six days. Like it's just been crazy. I know. yeah And your puppy's sick, but we don't know what's wrong with your puppy. So hopefully that will get straightened out. working on it We're working on it. Yeah. Oh, and bonus, my house is still under construction and i had to have a fight with them this morning because they didn't show up again today. a
00:02:47
Speaker
So... oh geez. I feel like, you know, that's my three things. It's all, you know, we're ready for Easy Street. I feel bad you had a dental emergency. can't help you. mean...
00:02:59
Speaker
The good news is dad's a dentist. And when I was up there, his friend is a dentist. We got me handled. They had antibiotics there, which is like life changing, but I'm still really tender. I'm still infected. I'm still not feeling great. And, you know, the drive back is tough. So, you know, I'm still a little weary from that. Yeah.
00:03:24
Speaker
ah I get to do that. I mean, it's tough. So anyway, it's all fine. yeah It's gonna be fine. We're on it. Okay, you guys.

Technological Advances in Soccer

00:03:33
Speaker
um On today's show, we're gonna talk about what's the buzz, reflections of a perfect summer, and what's for dinner. But before we get into it, please continue to rate, review, and invite your favorite fishes to jump in and join the conversation.
00:03:48
Speaker
All right, what's the buzz? World Cup is still going on. And I learned something about the World Cup. Did you guys know that the soccer balls that they're using for World Cup are smart balls? No. Yeah, they're smart balls. So there's like all these chips inside these balls to give like information.
00:04:07
Speaker
So they're analyzing like how hard it's kicked, how far it goes, what its velocity is, like all that stuff. And what would be the reasoning for that? Like, why are we measuring that? Like, are we trying to learn how to kick harder or like, what's the point? This person always does it at this angle. Like, why is that meaningful? I wonder. They help with off slides decisions, ah handball detection and goal line technology. So it helps with,
00:04:37
Speaker
it It helps officiating the game. And I'm sure they just get some tertiary information about all other stuff. Interesting. Producer Tim in our ear. Love it. Okay. And then talking about the World Cup really quickly, Messi, who is a phenomenal soccer player, is now just became the highest goal scorer in World Cup history.
00:05:00
Speaker
making him, it made hit like he has made 853 professional goals, including his history that he's making at the World Cup. Can you imagine?
00:05:12
Speaker
That's like, it's just now that's Hall Fame stuff. Like Hall of Fame. Good job. It's insane. It's so crazy. So I just wanted to mention

Family Health Stories & Shrinkflation Discussion

00:05:21
Speaker
that. Like my son, Riley, like was super into it in press. Yeah. And speaking of Riley, so for us, what I didn't mention at the top of the show, he just had his wisdom teeth out.
00:05:32
Speaker
yeah Which I will tell you, i he's here um and he's doing a good job, but I'm ready for him to like really turn the corner. but yeah he's what But I'm mentioning this because he's wanted to eat a lot of ice cream. Sure. Easy to eat. It feels good. Right. So I went to the store and I picked up ice cream when I was getting his antibiotics. and I'm like, oh, here's ice cream. I'll just get some Breyers really quickly.
00:05:59
Speaker
ah brought it home. And Tim mentioned, Nancy, why is this so small, this container? I'm like, I got the biggest container. This looks small. And he's like, yeah.
00:06:11
Speaker
He's just like, and i'm like, well, and it's also getting more expensive ice cream. So I looked it up. So not only is ice cream getting more expensive, but the shrinkflation is a real thing. So these containers used to be 64 ounces. and now,
00:06:28
Speaker
Breyers and Telemark are now 48 ounces. Oh. You know, find that interesting because I think that's happening like across all like brands. Cause I had ordered some stuff, some sunblock and you know, when you order it online, it looks huge. You know, when they're marketing the picture or whatever. And I got it. It was like this teeny tiny little bottle. This is a travel size.
00:07:00
Speaker
And it was expensive. Under three ounces. Yeah. and I think that is happening everywhere. I just think it's happening with a lot of brands. They're like making them smaller, but still like packaging them. They're like thing yeah yeah it's it's the It's annoying. Like how much are the consumers supposed to absorb? Like give me a break. Like I was annoyed as well. I'm like, I can't deal with this teeny tiny little thing.
00:07:28
Speaker
Sunblock. I'll use it one time. have a purse size. Yeah. You guys, you know what else caught my eye? I'm just, I'm always on food. I know, but M&M, which is a Mars company, they are doing away with blue and brown M&Ms. And it caught my attention because our mom loves M&Ms. And I'm like, why are they doing away with brown and blue M&Ms? I mean, brown is the chocolate color. Like how egregious could that be? Well, I'm here to tell you, I read about it. So the blue dye, they're trying to go healthier. So they're trying to get rid of the artificial dyes and they can't mimic a blue dye sufficiently. So they put blue dye in the brown to make it pop.
00:08:09
Speaker
So they're just doing away with it, which I thought was hilarious to have a more healthy M&M. Like we all should probably not eat like artificial dyes as much. I realize it's healthier not to, but you're also eating M&Ms, sugar. Like you've already made that choice to not eat something unhealthy, but the blue dye is going to send you over the edge. And the itty, tiny little piece of candy. Yeah. Like, what is happening?
00:08:40
Speaker
Do you guys remember that movie, The Wedding Planner, which is like one of my favorite movies with J-Lo? Yes. She's in the park. Yeah, she only eats the brown ones. only eats the brown because they're supposed to be more natural.
00:08:53
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. So. Well, according to this, that's not true. Yeah. um Kathy, speaking of movies, I just want to mention before I move on that we took the family to see Toy Story 5.

Movie Memories: Toy Story 5 & Dirty Dancing

00:09:04
Speaker
Mm-hmm. And it was really cute. We saw it in 3D, which we normally don't see that see the movies in 3D. It was really cute.
00:09:14
Speaker
And um it was worth your time if you like Toy Story and you're looking for i family movie. like Toy Story. Yeah, it was cute. I don't like it to be super sad, though.
00:09:25
Speaker
Was it Sam? Well, the last one I felt like there were a couple of them where they're like really bring you through the emotional roller coaster, which I do. I understand, but I don't appreciate sometimes. I mean, i will say. ah No, don't say that. I can't handle it.
00:09:43
Speaker
sha um But it was, it was cute. ah Speaking of movies, what kind of got us on this topic too is like, do you guys remember like Dirty Dancing?
00:09:53
Speaker
Oh yeah. And how it was like set up on like a camp site kind of, but all the family went. Nobody puts baby in the corner. Yeah.
00:10:03
Speaker
Okay, you guys, so let's jump in. So what I noticed about this movie was I actually still love it. Like it's so dated, but I actually still love it. And I think that there is something fun about being able to go and just unplug and be somewhere. Now, is it a little cheesy? Do I want to try on wigs or whatever? No, but there's something fun about going somewhere completely different from the norm. Yeah. meeting people completely different and making new friends with, you know, for a few Having a little like something, something on the side. yeah Like a little fun, right? Like, you know, i my um I may never, like, I may never see this person again. yeah and what a fun memory that's going to be. Like, li itda I don't know. Yeah. What do you guys think? When you head off to school, you just have a fun summer. Yeah.
00:10:55
Speaker
yeah But you know, it gets me thinking too. like I mean, listen, this is the thing. Like we're now big. We have big people. I mean, what's good for the goose is good for the gander kids. I mean, I don't know. Yeah. Live it up people.
00:11:11
Speaker
Is this what you tell your girls? No, it is not.
00:11:17
Speaker
hundred percent. No. And the boy either. i mean, we had some summers where i can remember my sisters had some summer flings. Yeah. and that It was fun.
00:11:28
Speaker
Let's talk about it, Nancy and Lindsay. Listen, I feel like it was it was fun to get excited about seeing friends that we only saw like once a year, right? Like it's a different relationship to be on a lake and it they can do, they have different skills like of like, they know how to drive a boat. They can they do water sports. Like I love water sports. You hear the different skills.
00:11:54
Speaker
Do you hear that? Well, I will say, you did. yeah We did have a quote he knew did have like one incident where we were going to town with a friend yeah and we lost like part of our propeller broke and a satellite got in the water for us and changed it out in the middle of the lake, which is something we would never have been able to do.
00:12:23
Speaker
And then they'd always knew where the fishing spots were which was super fun. um yeah three yearss away Yeah. I mean, there's a lot.
00:12:35
Speaker
You had your Alex fling, Linda, up there. I never had a boyfriend up there, really. You didn't have a boyfriend, but you did have ah an admirer. Yeah. Well, it took us fishing, which I did really appreciate.
00:12:51
Speaker
Yeah, ah he like would fall all over himself to try to help you catch a fish and you were like, oh, okay. yeah It was awesome. It was great. So fun. Yeah. Those boys were fun. They were really fun. Yeah. And they're still friends. I mean, we're still friends. Nancy's summer fling has been immortalized

Summer Flings & Celebrity Crushes

00:13:13
Speaker
in in the law in the cabin log book too.
00:13:16
Speaker
Oh my gosh. I can't believe you still remember that. I mean, Forgot about this book. haven't seen that book in ages. Oh my gosh. Yeah, when we we first started dating and Nancy took my dog up, but I wasn't up there yet.
00:13:35
Speaker
And i have he what did he put in the book? Something like, he sent his dog, but he didn't come. Or I don't know, something like that. You could just tell that there was- The gauntlet is down.
00:13:45
Speaker
Just Try and take her from me. aye, aye. All right, you guys. that's funny. Oh my God, that's so funny. Let's move shall we?
00:13:59
Speaker
All right, so talking about Summer Flings you know, dirty dancing and all that stuff. So here's, here's a theoretical. If you were to have a summer fling hypothetical, no X's, ah you know, purely hypothetical, who would it be? And what are you doing?
00:14:15
Speaker
Okay. So mine is more like very hypothetical. Cause it's like a famous person. Oh yeah. I like actor.
00:14:27
Speaker
I think I just like, I like Ryan Gosling. I've always liked him. Well, he's a doll for sure. think he is. He's like a doll, yeah. Yeah, I think he's cool. And I also like Chris Evans. Oh, yeah. Oh.
00:14:41
Speaker
Except I don't like Chris Evans. don't know almost spit out my coffee, but I don't know why I thought that was funny, but I didn't expect you to say Chris Evans. You know what's surprising to me about these hypotheticals? They're both like little blondies, and you are married to a dark-haired man. know I want know what you're going to do with Ryan Gosling and or Chris Evans. Like, what are you bringing him to the lake? you going to go on a, you know, yeah what like what would be your date? Would you do a date? Like what what would be, what would be the ideal? oh I hadn't thought of that that far. ah You're just getting him up to the lake and then you have no plans after that. Yeah.
00:15:22
Speaker
ah Yeah, I don't know. Well, those are both yummy. I guess we'd just hang out. You'd hang out in bunny ears. Chris Evans, the only thing is I don't like about him is his beard. Hopefully I'd get him to shave it.
00:15:37
Speaker
Wow. What about you, Nancy? Who's your theoretical? Ugh, I don't totally know anymore. Like, way, way back in the day, I would say like somebody like...
00:15:49
Speaker
Chris O'Donnell, he was like my movie star person, like way back the day. O'Donnell, not O'Donnell. He's not a duck, O'Donnell. ah You're get him up there if you don't even know his name. Yeah, I mean, there's no way he's gonna go on sling with you if you can't say his name right.
00:16:08
Speaker
What about you, Linda? I can't think of anybody, honestly. ah there you know There's nobody even back in your past. I of one person in particular for sure. Yeah, Timothy?
00:16:20
Speaker
What's his name? I would not have a fling with him. He's like a baby. i would have maybe lunch, but like I'm just, I don't know. I can't. I would have lunch. That sounds so old. I'll lunch with you. Let's have a coffee. Linda, that is not true. If he called you up, you're like, oh, yes, Timothy, I'll be there. i Even though I can't think of a hypothetical summer fling, I do recommend them. They are fun.
00:16:49
Speaker
So get out there and have some fun, people. I mean, listen. Mind yourself. Like make good choices, like make good choices, but that's part of growing, right? And it's like, and it like brought me back to like, I think one of my best summers I ever had to this day in my youth is when I was a camp counselor when I was in college at the very end of my college career as a camp counselor.

Camp Memories & Nostalgia

00:17:12
Speaker
And I loved it. Like i you know, I had a lot of responsibility. i met a lot of neat people. And I was like, oh, I'm the adult. I'm the one making decisions. And I met some really lifelong friends. And I actually, i don't know, I stepped out of my comfort zone and did some fun things like, you know.
00:17:33
Speaker
skiing and like you know with the moon or sailing with like ah the dark. like you know like Before I was on vacation with our parents, they would never be like, oh, sure, take the boat, go. for a midnight sail. Yeah, I did the same thing.
00:17:48
Speaker
Yeah, that that um that is so true about Clearwater. I think that we all had good experiences there. And I was just thinking about what you said about responsibility because I remember we had to do those like camp activities camp outs where they would send you yeah a group of kids out into the woods for a couple of days and it was you and another counselor.
00:18:14
Speaker
And I'm thinking we were like teenagers. I mean, what in the world? we were like responsible for all these kids. Yeah. Right. And they just sent you with a map, right? Like a good old fashioned map. Yeah. They gave us a lot of responsibility. Yeah. I took some barber kiddos, which who are like between eight and like 11, I think.
00:18:37
Speaker
And we paddled like not far, but we paddled across the lake. You know, we're in all these little canoes, all these little girls. And we set up our tents. And then they all wanted to go skinny dipping in the moonlight. And my counselor friend that I was with, who I'm still dear friends with, she and I were like, okay. So we're standing like lifeguarding these little kids. I mean, it wasn't deep water. so and everybody was fine. Little naked butts in the moonlight. mean, yeah.
00:19:11
Speaker
I mean, listen, I to this day love to skinny dip. I mean, I think it's so clean and I love it. I love it so much. and I do. Kathy is horrified when I say that, but like, yeah, I love it.
00:19:24
Speaker
I didn't like it when my kids wanted to do that because I'm like, seriously? yeah but Did you tell them that they couldn't? No, we did.
00:19:36
Speaker
i just didn't love it. I'm like, okay, I'm not looking. Yeah. Well, it's not like a sexual thing. It's just like, it's just a bunch of girls, like just, you know, swimming. I mean, there is, i do agree. I think, you know, we all did that. We all were counselors. We're all in leadership roles. I mean, I do think that is a really powerful experience. And it was a really fun one. I mean, I did a lot of fun things up there that I've never done again yeah So, yeah, I mean, and I have lifelong friends from that. So shout out to Clearwater Camp for Girls in Monaco, Wisconsin. If you have a young girl, it is a very empowering experience. It's very an old fashioned sort of camp that has a lot to offer a young girl, young woman. So check it out. It's it's pretty incredible. i mean, I also think about summer is like.
00:20:32
Speaker
Summer food, of course, I think about food. I think about vacations. I think about car rides. I just did a car trip. Like we spent so much time driving from place to place looking for the fish.
00:20:47
Speaker
Because dad is a fisher person. Looking for fish. Oh my gosh. We spent a lot of our summers you know going to different camps and we trying out different resorts. and Yeah. like i mean I feel like that was the one. Red Lake, Ontario is no great shakes, people. then we flew out of there. We went to this other lake. It's a miracle we're alive. like I cannot believe the adventures, but...
00:21:17
Speaker
It's so fun. Linda, is it like the one that had like all those bugs that would die and you're like they buzz around your head? And you guys remember those coils? I don't think they even make them anymore. all probably are going to get lung cancer from that. You would? Yeah. don You lit them um and put them by your head to just hope that it would kill the bugs like that was eating you. Anyone who has never been to the Midwest or the upper Midwest cannot comprehend the size and scale of the number of mosquitoes that can hatch and terrorize you to the point where you lose your mind. like I remember sleeping with like a blanket over my head, sweating, not being able to breathe, but preferring that over the mosquitoes. Yeah.
00:22:03
Speaker
So well yeah, but anyway, it's super it was a lot of fun. We've made a lot of good friends over the years.

Summer Songs & Spotify Playlist

00:22:12
Speaker
Okay, you guys, so thinking about like our adventures in the summer and summer fun, you have to think about music, right? So we thought it would be fun to pick three songs, each of us, and we picked them from one song from any era, one song released after 2000, and then another one released after 2016.
00:22:36
Speaker
So I don't know what you picked. You don't know what I picked. So let's just start. So we'll just start from the oldest and go to the youngest. So Linda, what song did you pick from any era? So I picked the Bodines, Good Things. i love them. That also makes me think of Clearwater camp Camp in my counselor days. Yes. Yeah, so that was like a really good song for me when I was in college. i was up north. We had this friend who played music with his guitar up north in like Manaqua. And we would go visit Jim DiDomenico and he would be playing in the local bars or whatever. And my that is like a big song. Good things for me. The Bodines. Yeah.
00:23:23
Speaker
and i would have underwater The people, right? Underwater people, yep. So I would have picked other songs from them or the samples because those two bands in particular were like impactful for me, whatever, for whatever reason when I was in college. Okay, Kathy, what about you from from any era? So I had to think long and hard about this because I like a lot of songs. Yeah. But I kind picked something from my high school days and I picked Katrina and the Waves, Walking on Sunshine.
00:23:58
Speaker
um that's what It was released like in 1985.
00:24:03
Speaker
And I just always have liked that song and I still do to this day. Yeah, that's a good one. It's a happy song. It's a happy song. I get it. So you guys are going to totally make fun of me. I went way back and I like, and even Tim, when he listens to this, he's probably going to roll his eyes. He's like, you are such a nerd. I already know you're a nerd. It's fine.
00:24:22
Speaker
i um So I remember getting in the car and mom and dad would play, like we had certain artists- If this is John Denver, I'm gonna fall over. gonna be- Grandma's Featherbed, stop it. Yes, yes, that was my number one. I'm like, we have to have a John Denver song or I was also thinking about like- Grandma's Featherbed is your summer song, really?
00:24:45
Speaker
Yes, because we always sang it in the car. We always sang it in the car, heading on vacation to a lake somewhere, and it was on repeat, and we thought it was hilarious. Nancy, the reason I guessed that is because you are never going to believe I was with mom and dad last week, and dad brought this song up.
00:25:07
Speaker
and No, he did not. Yes. He asked me to sing it for him. he did not. And I was like, Dad, i don't know if I remember the words. And then Mom started singing. Grandma stuttered bed at the island kitchen thing. i mean, it's a banger. I'm just not sure that I associate it with summer. But I mean...
00:25:30
Speaker
Well, it's deep in here. As we're talking about, so if we're talking about sounds of summer, it's just deep in my, it's just deep embedded in my brain. um and i just to Check it out, people. It's a, it's a winner.
00:25:41
Speaker
and it was, it was made in 1974. I mean, that's a pretty good year, 74. mean, I get it, Nancy. I mean, our our, nights home from skiing every weekend, we would listen that. Yes. so Yes.
00:25:54
Speaker
Yes, for sure. Okay, you guys, moving on. Okay, your song from 2000, released after 2000. Okay, I think my song is from Usher.
00:26:07
Speaker
The DJ's got us falling in love. at at just i love it. It never gets old. It makes me want to dance. Love it. All right. All right. hu I don't know that song. Yes, you do.
00:26:20
Speaker
Do you think I know it? 100% know it. 100%. Everybody knows it. It's so good. It's so fun. Yeah. All right. Kathy, what about you? 2000-ish. Is it Levitating. I love her. Oh yeah. I understood i love that song. you You're going to shake your bum for sure. Yeah. um So for me, i picked, um this is on my playlist right now um from Phantom Planet, California.
00:26:51
Speaker
Do you guys know that song? No. From 2001. do you guys remember the TV show OC? Yes, but I never watched it. Okay. It was their theme song, but Fanta Planet is one of my favorites. And this song, California, is an oldie but a goodie for me. Yeah.
00:27:07
Speaker
And um I currently have it on my my summer playlist for going to check that out. I don't know if I know it the top of my head. Absolutely. After 2016, Linda, what's your what's your pick? So currently my girls and I are obsessed with Sabrina Carpenter and it's hard to like nail down one song. But like currently we're listening to House Tour a lot and I really, really like it.
00:27:30
Speaker
All right. What about you, Kathy? So actually I might have cheated. This might not be post 2016, but it's It's 2014. Yeah. it's two thousand and fourteen um It's by Walk Moon called Shut Up and Dance. Oh yeah.
00:27:46
Speaker
Yeah. Shut Up and Dance with me. That's like one of my favorite summer songs too. So you just switched yours around because Levitating was released in 2020. So you just got your categories. Okay, so Kathy, so funny for me that you picked a Dua Lipa song. I did too. Hannah and I love Dance the Night.
00:28:07
Speaker
You know, it was it was in the Barbie movie and we yeah love it. And every time it comes on, we're just shaking our little booty. love it. just like It makes your mood instantly happy. yeah so So funny that we had overlap Dua Lipa.
00:28:24

What's for dinner?

Favorite Summer Recipes & July Break

00:29:35
Speaker
Okay, so we're going to just put a little bit of a twist on what's for dinner. um This week, we're going to do your favorite side. Since it's summertime, we go to picnics and potlucks, and we thought it might be a fun twist to have each one of us pick a favorite side to take.
00:29:54

So Linda, what's your pick? So i have a bean dip recipe that a friend of mine gave me years ago. It's got lots of different names like cowboy caviar and stuff like that, but I have tweaked it over the years Um, and it's just fresh and tasty and nutritious. Um, we serve it with eggs. We serve it with chips. I serve it with like little mini bell peppers as the scoop. I just eat it out of a bowl. So I'll add that recipe to the show notes. Everybody try it. It's so good. And you can, of course, I've never heard it with eggs though. That Nancy, we got to try that.
00:30:34
Speaker
It's delicious with eggs. Yeah. I never would have thought to put eggs in that. So like hard boiled eggs? No, no, no, no, no. Put like so a fried egg and add some of this bean salsa dip. Oh. With scrambled eggs, pour it next to it like a bite. I mean, because it's got like, and then you could add like a little sriracha sauce or also we're obsessed with um crunchy garlic sauce, garlic crunch sauce. Have you guys gone into this? Yeah. don't know. It's not spicy. It's red. It looks like intimidating, but it's delicious.
00:31:10
Speaker
yeah Anyway, ah you can modify it to add whatever vegetables you want or don't want, but like the meat of the dressing that you put on it is really good and enjoy. What about you, Kath?
00:31:26
Speaker
My side is going to be a crunchy cabbage salad. Okay. It's um you basically ah can also put chicken in it as well for some protein and it can pair well with almost anything that you're you're serving burgers. You could have it just be a salad by itself. um you know, ah fish if you're serving fish. It's just a great summer light dish. So but so you said crunchy cabbage salad, what makes it different than coleslaw? So it has um the cabbage you chop up really fine and then
00:32:05
Speaker
you use like some slivered almonds and it has ramen in Oh, ramen, yeah. Actually, think Cammie used to make that, Nancy. That sounds good. That was a good one. You like the ramen, and it gives it a little crunch along with the slivered almonds. And then you top it. Yeah, right, right. And you keep it to the end so that it doesn't get soggy.
00:32:28
Speaker
And then when you're ready to serve it, you put the warm... nutty mixture in there and it makes it really delicious. I always forget about that salad for some reason. It's easy to make.
00:32:40
Speaker
I don't even know if I've ever made it, but whenever I eat it, I'm always like, oh, this is so good. Why don't I make this? And then I forget about it. I'll make it for you up so up north. I like this idea. And I like so far that all these are not mayonnaise based because i I cannot stand mayonnaise. And also when you're going to a picnic or you're going screw like doing something outside, you know, it doesn't really stay. So it's nice to have an option to not have a mayonnaise base. So I also did not do mayonnaise based side, but I did a German um potato salad, which I love, which is like oil and vinegar based. And it's so delicious. Does yours have bacon or no bacon? So you can't put bacon in it, but my version doesn't have bacon in it because I don't love to have meat in all my stuff.
00:33:26
Speaker
Yeah. And Tim and my family would prefer the bacon version. yeah um But I like... So when we started making the German potato salad, I made it the first time and I made it with bacon and that's why everybody loved it. And then Nancy took it over and decided... She just did. Bacon, which is a terrible decision. Terrible. Yeah. So listen, so I'll put on here the bacon version and the non-bacon version, and you all can decide which one you want to try. i mean like they're great. It's a great salad to take, and it holds up, and you don't have to worry about the heat. Nancy, I mean, what is the sign that your dad has up at the cabin?
00:34:05
Speaker
Life is short. Eat the bacon. Everything's better with bacon. i get it. It is. I don't always need it. I have been outvoted. Well, I hope everybody tries some of these sides because it is that time of year where you want like a little nibble of something nutritious along with your big, huge hot dog that you've just grilled. so Yeah.
