Speaker: All right. everyone, and welcome to Versailles 6101, where we discuss everything about the world of psych and the antics of Sean and Gus in sunny Santa Barbara. I'm Skylar, and this is my partner, Spriggs.
Speaker: And today we'll be talking about season three, episode 10 of the famed TV show, Psych. Six feet under the sea. Which I guess is like a ah run on...
Speaker: 6,000 leagues under the sea and six feet under like buried under? Yeah, yeah, yeah. right like Like when you're dead? Yeah, I wasn't even thinking of the leagues under the sea. Right, is that what it is? 6,000 leagues under the sea?
Speaker: I don't know. 1,000 leagues under the sea, maybe? 20,000. 20,000. There we But yeah, Many league. Yes.
Speaker: there we go but yeah i mean many a league yes That makes sense. um and And yeah, I was just thinking like under the sea, but six feet under.
Speaker: it is a fun.
Speaker: punny, I guess, title. Yes. Murdery. Deathy. Yeah, for sure. um Yeah. Very fun episode.
Speaker: Very fun episode. and And again sad. Oh, yes. Very sad. It's so sad, but like kind of different. Yeah. Yes, I do feel like there are bits of like heartwarmingness and throughout the episode, which makes the sadness maybe not hit quite as hard.
Speaker: Oh, yeah, yeah. And well, they're so good at balancing like the humor and stuff. That's very true. but Yeah, I love how ultimately, like, how seriously this is taken by everyone. um Yeah, very.
Speaker: um Yeah, because in the beginning, there's definitely some skepticism of, like, this just being a silly endeavor. Yes. But everybody kind comes around, which I love.
Speaker: Yeah. Well, i even like the the fact that when we go to the first present-day scene, like, Gus is taking. the situation ever so very seriously for him.
Speaker: And Sean doesn't really know where he is. then once he finds out is... kind of joking the whole time until he then also takes it like very seriously so yeah yeah and he's kind of like dang it not what i wanted this was i think this c-line was murdered like he doesn't want it to be true but he is a slave to the truth he yeah it's true if you can't just deny it well yeah it's just know a little bit of this and a lot of it that yeah
Speaker: Two fingers lift to the head on either side.
Speaker: the the like general idea here is that we have an ocean based episode we've had a lot of ocean this season which makes sense Santa Barbara yeah and I really love that like yes like it's always fun when we have when we are centered around the ocean because it is such a big part of the setting so it's like fun when you know that feels part of it it makes it feel so alive yes and I love although it does seem very cold there It's like, clearly only this is not Santa Barbara.
Speaker: Well, yes, we know that they record in Canada. It's cold up there. i actually think in one of the one of the psychologists are in episodes that we listened to, they referenced how like if you look at their breath, like sometimes there's...
Speaker: o steam coming out of their mouths because they record like early morning in this very cold place like oh yeah that would be so tough and then like having to pretend that it's yeah warm santa barbara yeah not being able to shiver at all that would be very tough i like that this episode too um has a like nice callback like the entire thing is kind of like uh, wrapped in on itself with the flashback at the beginning, even though you don't necessarily first get it. Like the boys are on a field trip and the boys have like held back on the field trip. They've like hidden on the bus so that they can go do some covert ops and try and get Sean to ride a dolphin, which of course does not go over well because he's not very good at being covert.
Speaker: And, um, Henry ends up catching them and it's this whole thing. But I love that we then get callback to that in that it's an aquarium episode at the aquarium. And then Sean literally tries to the dolphin again.
Speaker: Which ah fits with, again, our theme for the season of him, like, just going back in time all the time. And this being this dream deferred that he's had since childhood.
Speaker: Yeah. And I also love the kind of paralleling we get with the boat stealing and kind of like him projecting like some reverse psychology on Henry.
Speaker: Like, you want me to lie to you? You want me to steal the boat? Absolutely.
Speaker: Yeah, it's all it's all very like, kid, I want to get my way, so I will do whatever mental gymnastics I have to do. Mm-hmm. be able to do what I want. which yeah But Henry does kind of set him up in a funny way because he in the flashback,
Speaker: Yeah, I think he's... The boys think he's sick, right? And then yeah he shows up because that was his own lie yeah to catch them. um And yeah, it's all just very funny because Sean left behind like a little hand-drawn map to the... Or he had hand-drawn his path through the aquarium to the dolphins um and and something else.
Speaker: And I love Henry like what kind of undercover operation you running kid and there is a sense that like what where they land is you know he's like make it harder yeah to catch you and Sean's like so you want me to lie to you and he's like no but it's like he knows he's going to so it is very funny that he but he does kind of give him this idea that Like, yes, break my rules.
Speaker: Lie to me. do But do a good job. yeah Yes.
Speaker: Yeah. I think it's so funny, too, because then we get, feel like, instance after instance after instance in this season of him doing exactly that, being like,
Speaker: You wanted me. like wanted me to make this harder. You wanted me to steal the book. I did it. Don't get mad at me You told me yeah Yeah. And I'm thinking of other moments where, like, we've talked a couple of times about, um like, in the 70s episode, he, you know, they deceive Henry by saying they are going to go build a bookshelf or whatever it is. And so there are these moments because another line I wrote down is Henry says, if you're going to create a deception, do it better.
Speaker: Yes. Which Henry, I mean, Sean's whole life is deception. And like he is now a pro. yeah Yes. He starts to, I guess, in his development of...
Speaker: this deception and psychicness, instead of just doing deception for his own benefit, he now starts like utilizing psychology in it. So now he's saying, okay, if I tell Henry I'm going to do something that he wants me to do him, he'll buy into it more, hence the boat.
Speaker: But I also need the boat. Yeah, the whole like being taught how to drive. love the logic of like, he wants me to steal it. Didn't you get that from him? like teaching me to drive. and I'm pretty sure he just wanted to teach you to drive. I love having Gus there as like the interpreter between the two of them of like, you know, what? Yeah, poor Gus.
Speaker: Really along for the ride multiple times in this. Oh my. Yes. And it's interesting because we got another... um Another like, do you hate me in this?
Speaker: but We've talked a little bit about how like Gus's, Gus's kind of story throughout this season is a lot of like, trusting Sean, not trusting Sean. Are they partners? Is he working with somebody else? Like, how is this dynamic kind of going?
Speaker: And it's after he decides that Shabby, the sea lion, has been murdered. They're, like, walking through. Oh, yeah. this is the funeral And Kaz is like, why do you hate me? I was like, I don't hate you.
Speaker: It is funny that he would be so, don't know, offended by this because...
Speaker: I don't know. Like, what do you think he thinks Sean is up to? Because... That's a good question. i mean, if there was foul play, wouldn't he want to know? Yeah. I wonder if in Gus's mind, he's kind of like, this is my thing and this is traumatic right now.
Speaker: And you're making this harder. And maybe making it about himself. Correct. Very Sean. Very Sean. So I could see that. And I feel like that is also kind of Gus's gut reaction. Just like...
Speaker: oh, you don't like me anymore. Like, oh, you're going to go be partners with Jules now. to be partners with that person. Guess I'm top liver, you know? So I think he's got some interpersonal stuff with Sean. He's got to work out, as we know.
Speaker: him Well, and knowing we just came from, I think some time has passed, but Oh, yes. The big reveal of this secret, his secret affair with Joy.
Speaker: um you know So, yeah, that's adding to the trust issues. probably They had both been keeping the secret from him for years. I can't even imagine. It's also funny that we begin with Gus lying to Sean.
Speaker: Yes. Which feel like we don't see very often. At least blatantly. But I get it because he, the minute they get out of the car and Gus reveals that they're going to a funeral, Sean's like, ah hate funerals.
Speaker: They're sad. I don't like that. He says, oh, Sean is such a baby. And I do like that when Gus is very earnestly like, I need support.
Speaker: Right. Right now. Like Sean's like, all right, fine. Like, but then of course it can't be straightforward. And it's for a season. Yeah. Make jokes the entire time. Yeah.
Speaker: And then say it was murder. and I also love that Gus's lie is that there's a burglarlar ah burglary ring at a gentleman's finishing school. Oh, yes.
Speaker: Which does seem like something that Sean would just need to be a part of. Yes, and what I can't remember now, but when we get to the point with the gentlemen who take that class and date the ladies,
Speaker: what is the crime is the crime murder yes it's funny if it was burglary and it's like oh it is murder oh it's murder all right no fun but that does like knowing that case is in the future like sean does have this like i know fascination or like the like posh men really appeal to sean like despero um Even in this episode, La Beta, he's like... Yeah.
Speaker: Watching him with the hair. He references that he has great hair. Yes. And his like talk they talk about his ego for a little bit. Yeah, he loves a stylish man. Does. how he says, with their cover being hair analysts, and he's like, I've always wanted one myself.
Speaker: Whatever he says. So ridiculous. That's one of my favorite, ah like, I guess just cover stories that they have ever.
Speaker: well I just love that the assistant, like, you know that LaBeta's got have, like, some very particular... the quest yeah he just doesn't question it yeah oh yeah absolutely and i also love the way he talks to levade on the phone because he does seem to have a little teasing lilt to his voice like seems like they have a good relationship yeah this assistant and then levade is like who set that up because this does seem like part of this man's real life like it's not out of the question yeah totally part of the shtick which i kind of love
Speaker: He's a very interesting character too for this episode, La Beta, because I feel like we enter into the episode very much with ah Gus kind of leading us in this understanding of like,
Speaker: We are like philanthropists. We are conservators. Like we're doing this for the love of this animal. And this was very important to him. We meet aquarium staff. and This was very important him. And then we get LaBeta who's like, it's all about me. I guess nothing to do with the animals.
Speaker: So it's kind of a nice like foil, I guess. for Yeah. And I feel like they set him up really well too because the way Sean says, is that Randy LaBeta? Animal Planet's Randy LaBeta or whatever. it Like it feels, I'm like, is that somebody I should know?
Speaker: It really feels like they are talking about an actual figure who's like guest starring on the episode. And then it's like he's painted in such a poor light. Like this is not a real person. um But it really does feel that way.
Speaker: And so I think they like they set up a a person who is sort of a pop culture figure. Yes. In the animal entertainment world like very well.
Speaker: So you really like kind of get his, you know, his fame and stuff. Absolutely. And he gives the the eulogy, which I thought was you know, looking back now, I'm like, that's actually, that thing really sucks. Cause it seems like he has like no relationship with this creature with Shabby.
Speaker: And he's already, we know, kind of like swooped in and yeah taken over. the last you know couple moments that humans are interacting with with him so it's sad that it's not like someone who has a long-term relationship with shabby who was eulogy but well and it is sad too like it really was his fault yeah like there's so many layers to this case and how you um shabby ends up in the situation he's in but
Speaker: Yeah. This is it all comes down to how LaBeta set him up. So this is a good philosophical question. When I used to teach psych, I would, um, talk to my kids about, we did like a whole thing on like morality and, and like victimizing people and and things like that.
Speaker: And the, so I told them like this whole story and then I gave them all the characters and said like, who is most at fault for the death. Yeah. We died. Um, And it always caused some very interesting conversations between the kids.
Speaker: ah Which, yeah, there's a lot of fault to be placed. LaBeta pushes up the the timing of the release.
Speaker: He releases him in a different area. He is the one who puts the tracker on him so that the fishermen smugglers end up shooting him.
Speaker: But ultimately, the smugglers did shoot him. Yeah. Well, that's such a classic, like, crime show trope to, like, not trope. I mean, and it is true, but, like, I feel like in a lot of.
Speaker: shows, they characters will have a moment of like, it was my fault. And then like the lesson is, you didn't pull the trigger. like You did not kill them.
Speaker: hu um But you know they still feel ah sense of fault. I think that's a very human reaction. I think especially if it's someone that you someone or something that you care about.
Speaker: think we can all analyze some instance in which we weren't there enough or didn't do enough or made the wrong decision. Yeah. Yeah. Made a choice that set somebody up.
Speaker: Correct. But the person, the killer is the person who killed them. Yeah. um But yeah, I do feel like that comes up in like procedurals a lot.
Speaker: um And really, we really don't get into that kind of stuff. No. In this show really at all. And I think part of that is because we don't, we don't see a lot of the legal, as legal, ah we see the policing aspects, but we don't see a lot of the like courtroom legal aspects where they are assigning blame.
Speaker: and Yeah, well, and i also feel like this is not the kind of show where like, you You know, it's ultimately a comedy. And so, you know, all of our characters don't have, like, partners who were murdered and like yeah or, were family members. You know, it's not like – because, like, there are some shows where, like, it seems like every other person is getting killed.
Speaker: um And so, yeah, it's really not that kind of show. And even in this, I mean, it's more like like a Columbo or like a Sherlock Holmes where we're really just watching the investigation and then we get the nut shelling. Mm-hmm.
Speaker: And understand all the pieces, but we don't really get into the, like any really of the moral repercussions of all of that. Yeah. It's, it's more about the mystery aspect and resolving the mystery than it is about the fault, as you said.
Speaker: Yeah. And, and how you get there. Cause that's like the fun thing about Sean is you get to actually see how he gets there who in his very, roundabout, wackadoodle way.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah, so this, yeah, the funeral's pretty sad. Yeah, but it is fun to have Sean's, like, commentary going on in the background.
Speaker: What's with the oceanic theme? That guy with the horn-rimmed glasses. Oh, sorry, the camera adds 10 years. It's 10 years, Sean. It's so preposterous.
Speaker: Or even, like, when they're standing up at the casket, he's like, you know, I'm sure you, um, bounced a lot of balls on your nose. Yeah, that is sweet though. Like Gus even like chuckles a little. Like i i like that, you know, Gus makes him say something. Sean obviously doesn't want to be a part of this at all, but he really, he leans in and he is there for Gus in this moment.
Speaker: whoop What I feel like Gus is always so supportive whatever antics Sean is on that Gus is like, be serious for one second.
Speaker: You owe me this. um no Fine.
Speaker: But the the niceties don't last very long because then a blonde woman whose name I didn't get. Let me see. April. April. Thank you. feel like they said it once and I missed it.
Speaker: I... yeah
Speaker: I was thinking how I feel like there was another woman too. Like everybody has similar names to Abigail this season. I feel like they're trying to confuse us just for the sake of it.
Speaker: Let's see if, if there was a oh you mean in another episode? Yeah. I feel like I had another moment this season where I was like, wait, isn't that her name? And then like no, her name is Abigail.
Speaker: um But I can't remember. but I did have a moment like that where i'm like, wait, is that April? Is that right? No, Abigail, Abigail.
Speaker: But it is kind of funny too because again, you know, We're getting into the Jules and Sean of it all in this episode. and And it is kind of interesting to have a young woman whose name is sort of similar to Abigail.
Speaker: um And just like, don't know, maybe a little bit of foreshadowing, just very subtle. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: I really liked her as an addition to this episode. Mm-hmm. I loved getting to see Jules having a friend. ah Yeah. That was adorable. Like, and Jules again, i mean, I feel like April is a little kooky too, so it's fine, but Jules comes on so strong. yeah So, and she'll be she, which is what I, yeah you know, Jules compliments her. They like you. Yeah. yeah They click.
Speaker: Yeah. And I like that she's, like perceptive enough to notice that some something's kind of going on. Yeah. I mean, not that Jules plays it off well at all. She doesn't.
Speaker: She's conscientious enough to like ask. Yeah. And then Jules totally plays it poorly. And then she steps back, which I don't feel like we often, again, it's kind of like a nice, it's a nice foil to what we see in the beginning of the episode with Sean and Gus, where they're like fighting over who's going to have dibs on April.
Speaker: find Another like childish thing. Yeah, exactly. and But in this case, you know, April's like, no, no, I i get it. It'll happen. h It's not with me.
Speaker: I'm with her. So I'm going to go. Yeah. and And she's not like totally explicit about what she's talking about. I love Sean's like, what?
Speaker: Come on. He knows. She's being like intentionally obtuse. I did it.
Speaker: it's like with gus in the bank episode he knows what he's talking about yeah april's a kook and i absolutely love her for it like she must have overheard sean say murder because she like pulls them over to the side and it's like we can't talk here yeah and gus thinks they're in trouble oh and and she does seem very serious she does and like official as well she like pulls them over to like a slightly more remote area of this park that park or was it a funeral like a graveyard i mean i think it would have to be okay casket there yeah if they're gonna lower him anyway this one section seemed to
Speaker: less gravy, there was more gravy? No, no. Less full of graves. ch Oh, I thought you were talking about like some slang.
Speaker: Oh no. Well I said gravy as in like- I get it now. Full of graves. And then I got gravy as in like the movie that we watched. And then I was like, okay, bad connections.
Speaker: Go back. Yes, less less full of graves. so And less full of people so that they can you know have a more private conversation. But even as they're talking, we see like a sketch man walk past them in a trench coat.
Speaker: Yeah. Which definitely makes it seem like there's a some form of maybe plot going on or something. But she she maybe doesn't confirm their suspicions, but says that she has you know similar suspicions that something kind of shady was going on.
Speaker: Right. Yeah. which
Speaker: i don't know it's kind of fun i like that she's like murder yeah yeah how are we gonna yeah well i guess thinking about like sort of what she's gone through the past week or so i know she's asked too many questions so she got fired know also how does he have the leverage to do that she works for the aquarium and he's just like ah random guy i guess publicity wise like yeah just famous people him to stay yeah using their weight
Speaker: yeah so to finally hear someone be suspicious she's like okay let's hear what you've got to say yeah and she tells them enough but not so much as to like give up her full story, but she certainly makes it seem as if like she works at the aquarium and she's like known shabby his entire life. Which is all true.
Speaker: Correct. She just leaves out the part where she's fired. She's basically fired, yeah. ah which i actually i love like i love that it leads to this ridiculous scene that they then like play into well it is she's like i can get you in yeah like let's go which i guess she does know the code to the office and she does know the the like part of the fence where they go i mean she can get them in but not with like a key card or anything yeah
Speaker: Not like legally speaking, but she can physically. Yeah. i I love the, that they're there in like the dead of night and it's like a secret operation. and Yeah. Sean's in his sweatpants.
Speaker: and discuss You're dressing up for her. What are you talking about? He's in his sweatpants. He's sneaking around pants. I love that he at least clocks it as like, this isn't normal for you.
Speaker: Yeah. People normally wear those. Sweatpants are dressing up, Gus. yeah
Speaker: Gus is just on high alert. I think so, because they just have their little tiff with yes who's going to get to woo her or attempt to woo her.
Speaker: Yeah. And then she says they get to this very tall wall, which I love that they lean into the fact that it's preposterous that she could get them up there. It's inexplicable. ah But she's like, I'm going to boost you over. And don't worry, like the electrical fence doesn't work right there.
Speaker: you'll be fine. And then, you know, supposedly she boosts them up and over. and luckily, feel like Sean is about to back out. But Gus is, like, trying to impress her So he's in.
Speaker: Push on. And then they're they're just in, right? they're in the They're inside the aquarium going to the office. And this office, oh, my God. What a beautiful office. With the the dolphins. Very intense.
Speaker: Yes, portrait windows. I don't even know what you would call it. um But it's very nice, very large office, which we later find out April turns down when they offer it to her.
Speaker: was like, why? Why give up that awesome office? But they're looking for boat log because April explains to the boys that no one was allowed No one from the aquarium was allowed on the boat with LaBeta when Shabby was released.
Speaker: So no one actually knows what happened on the boat. She just knows that they got back and everyone was like kind of a little annoyed. So the boys are looking into the boat log to see if they could get And do they I guess they don't know yet that he was released so far from where he was supposed to be.
Speaker: No. I think that this is where they get the laptop. Yes. Yes. Right, so they get like an extra they find an extra laptop, which which is locked away. Yes, locked away, and only has a GPS program on it.
Speaker: It's the only thing. And they see like all these coordinates that ended recently. And Sean assumes it is the boat.
Speaker: Right. Correct. He assumes it's the boat. Yes. And he also, at this point, sees like a newspaper with the Rocinante.
Speaker: Yes. Article, which I kind of forgot going into this, that this was that episode. That they were connected. Because there's so, there are like a lot of layers to this story.
Speaker: Yes. Which I, love. The way everything comes together and how it's like all constructed, like the subtle introduction later of Lassie's case that went so poorly and he needs a win. and um And then like the way that comes back to all tie everything together. Yes.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. I like when we have two totally different stories that then kind of come together in the end. It just feels fun. Serendipably. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: So the, oh, we don't find out, do we find out now what Rosinante is or not really? No. Okay. So we grab the logbook and look through that a little bit. Oh, that's when we find out where Shabby was released in the logbook.
Speaker: And we find out it's way far away. from where he was supposed to be released, says Guess. And then Sean says he has unfinished business and he's going to go ride a dolphin.
Speaker: Find out why he was wearing sweatpants. So we could tear them away. Yep. and sea Sean, Sean, Sean. Also, I would just love to know what was the getaway plan here?
Speaker: Did he not think that there was a security guard? Did he think he was going to just like ride a dolphin and then get out of the tank and drive home soaking wet? Like, what? I don't know. mean, maybe he thinks he will get in trouble, but it'll be worth it because this is his dream.
Speaker: And he has this like bonkers like mentality of like this being like a noble thing that he's doing. don't know how of where he got that from. especially like later on we find april tells him like you can't because he's eventually like i'll just write a dolphin in the wild yeah he but he's gonna wait until it's natural yeah yeah yeah i mean for the record ah i'm opposed to all you know messing with dolphins and all animals and yes it is funny because he also later like once he gets up on the
Speaker: sort of the roof, like where all the entrances to the tanks are. But it doesn't even be outside. He does see the flashlight. so it's like he knows he's being tailed here.
Speaker: yeah But he continues on. It's like, I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna ride a dolphin. Which is interesting when you consider the fact that he like finds ah like a tub full of herring.
Speaker: And the dolphin wants the fish and he's like grappling with whether to feed the dolphin this fish. And like, you're about to ride it on its back. Yeah. Well, it's, it's like, he doesn't realize that's what it wants.
Speaker: i That's how I took it. Cause he's like, like, stop. And he's just holding this. I see. I see. Okay. Okay.
Speaker: And then I think he's like, oh. And then he's going to give it to him. And that's what Gus does. And then Gus is like, you can't do that. Got it, it, got it. And then Gus just wants to do it. Of course.
Speaker: Which? Dorks. Fair. but I wanted to, I meant to look up paw does not love fa. Oh, I meant to too. I did not. Let's do it now. And I, yeah, I Googled it in like the first time.
Speaker: Yeah, it's all psych stuff. People are like, what is this? From Day of the Dolphin. Day of the Dolphin? Is that a movie?
Speaker: I guess so. It's from Day of the Dolphin. 1973. Here is a YouTube clip. Oh, yes. Final scene. Yes, must be. Let's see there's any comments here.
Speaker: It seems sad. I cried and cried at this scene, says the comments. Oh my gosh. This movie changed my life.
Speaker: It is This broke my heart 40 years ago. oh no. Okay. i was going to say maybe we should watch this, but maybe we shouldn't. I don't want watch it. don't think I'm going to cry, which no thank you. but Okay. So dolphin movie. So that makes sense.
Speaker: Yes. I feel like I assumed it was like Free Willy or something. feel like that tracks is a whale. I'm curious about this movie.
Speaker: He does, you know, at the end say he would be willing to ride a whale instead of a dolphin. um Thriller sci-fi movie. well It's not what I would have thought based on what we were just seeing.
Speaker: Maybe we will have to watch it. Okay.
Speaker: A brilliant and driven scientist along with their small team are training dolphins to communicate with humans at their remote island research facility. They teach Alpha, Fa, a dolphin they have raised in captivity for four years to speak simple English.
Speaker: Oh. Okay. Oh, I wonder if like Pa is the trainer and he's saying like, go away. Oh, could be. Like be free.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. i don't think I can cope with that. No, that seems like a lot of emotions. yeah Okay, well now we know.
Speaker: Yes. Obscure dolphin movie from the 70s. Yeah, so they get caught. Yeah. And then they get arrested. They get arrested multiple times this episode. I'm like, oh, poor guys.
Speaker: Or it seems like they're going to get arrested. Yeah, they have some close calls. and And they're taken back to the station. And finally, we get to see Vic in her going out clothes.
Speaker: I love it. She's so cute She had front row center at Phil Collins tonight. Phil Collins. And I love Sean is like, that a backstage pass? And Gus says, in a Dolce jacket?
Speaker: yeah I love this idea that she's just like, got this whole other side of her. Because we really don't see her out of the office ever.
Speaker: Yeah, but I feel like that's, I mean, that's one of the things that we love so much about this series is they do a really great job of like, but making all the characters feel very human and like very multi dimensional.

Speaker: you know, figures that are all about the job. But I like that she has a whole whole life outside this as a normal person would. Yeah. And we don't see like, we don't have to see much of it. But just and how like subtly, you know, it wasn't very long ago, a few episodes ago where she, you know, named where Phil Collins actually lives and stuff. And they're like, why does she...
Speaker: And then now for the payoff of that is that ah she's like a super fan. and And yeah, it doesn't, it's not a very long, like, you know, we're not spending a lot of time with her at this concert or anything, but it's just like, she's got more going on here. Yes.
Speaker: And I also love when she leaves and she's like, somebody is getting fired. I love, the yeah, this whole scene was so much fun.
Speaker: i love, like, she's so annoyed at them for breaking and entering into the aquarium, and they're like, well, I mean, technically just entering. Just entering. Yeah. And Sean's there holding our glass fish, i like, around the glass fish.
Speaker: and So good. And then I love, we get to see our first April Jules interaction. Mm-hmm. We get them together, and they're just so sweet, like, definitely instinct friends i love jules is like really like we want to help them want to help her and but she's also like admits that vick probably doesn't want to know what this is about but she will help she's gonna take care of this yeah she'll take a lead she's good we're good you go back to your concert yeah
Speaker: Which honestly, probably the right answer. Yeah. And also like the way Jules tries to keep Lassie out of it. Like she's like, this is.
Speaker: And we also, it's revealed that Jules was also very invested in the shabby cam and like the shabby story. It has kind of a few watch parks, like a little Sebastian. Yeah. vibe where like the whole town is obsessed with this animal and then there's like in parks it's only been but there's some people who are like what um but yeah oh that's very fun yes and then lassie shows up which yeah where And he is, he's like rushed here to see Sean and Gus in jail, I guess, or in custody. yeah
Speaker: was But they've already been released, unfortunately unfortunately, by the time he gets there. Yeah.
Speaker: But yeah, I forget. How do they get into the interrogation room? like he's he The boys say that oh yeah they're investigating a heinous crime. think the last thing they cooked up at him.
Speaker: And was like, tell me all about it. So they go to the investigation. they Yeah. And this is where we first get um like a proper reference to Rocinante. Yes.
Speaker: Which isn't, we don't get much, which I think that is also what makes it like such a fun payoff in the end, how everything comes together. Because Sean really doesn't know about this at all. He saw, I mean, we saw him see the paper because he just like,
Speaker: sees everything and takes in all information all the time um and then even now lassie's kind of venting that he was chasing these smugglers and they got away they flew up into a lightning storm and he wasn't allowed to fly after them and um blah blah blah and does the name ross and nante mean anything to you and john's like no um why would it so it's so fun because we like get this sort of background but not gonna pay off till later um but yeah the whole the whole interaction about the crime sean and gus are investigating is amazing hysterical just you guys tell me is i want to get him involved with telling his name
Speaker: Are you okay? Shabby Street name? Last name? Like a given name Yeah, given name Last name Doesn't have a last name Don't mess me around Sean spells it Bessillion Bessillion, when that French?
Speaker: Pinniped Pinniped, never heard of it
Speaker: It's just... It's so clever. love it. It's so good. Yes. I want him to be... yeah, because they're like, can you get a body exhumed?
Speaker: Yes, can you get a body exhumed? that's... They use Lassie to their advantage. Yes. Yes. And then we go to the coroner's office, which... Yeah.
Speaker: It's sad to not see Woody yet. Yeah. But we'll get there eventually. I do want to know what happens to this guy, considering... He never shows up again. Did he move? Yeah, hard to say. Did he retire?
Speaker: Who knows? Could be. seems nice, though. He did seem nice. Thoreau. lot of important information. And when we get there, Lassie's like, like, can't believe that this has happened to him.
Speaker: Of course it is. And Jules is like, I tried to leave you out of this. I love Jules being like, I knew this wasn't going to go over well, but here you are anyway.
Speaker: I tried, okay? I tried.
Speaker: So, yeah Lassie's like, obviously, you know, caught in a fishnet or whatever. he storms off. Right. Well, because we get from from the corner, we get there's, there was an open, like, piercing in his flesh.
Speaker: Then we found flat leaf coral and synthetic fibers that most likely came to the fishing net. Yeah. And Gus mentions like that a sea lion is a precision animal.
Speaker: They know how to swim around a reef. So there is some suspicious stuff here, but Sean is also starting to have some doubts.
Speaker: So, home yeah. Now they're going to go investigate where right well where it all went down theoretically yeah and it's not till later that sean like remembers the coordinates and it's like oh that's where we should go right so i don't know where they plan on going maybe the
Speaker: maybe they were planning on going to where LaBeta let Shabby free, but then the last coordinates are Shabby's last resting place.
Speaker: h yeah so That's where they end up going. That makes sense. um got But first, though, they got to get out there. so they and And also, this was also set up, too, because at the beginning, Sean said...
Speaker: when gus is trying to drag him to the funeral sean's like i'm already like my dad already wants me to wants to take me out on his new boat and i can only avoid so many things at once yes yes and so we got a little preview that that henry did want him on this boat um and so he's going to take advantage of that of course And I just, this whole sequence, I just, I love Henry so much.
Speaker: Like he's taking this so incredibly seriously. Like he has to make sure Sean knows everything that's happening and how to drive this boat correctly. And Sean, of course, is- messing around because he's Sean. Yeah, and we're like, start kind of tight on them. Yes, very.
Speaker: And Henry's like, pay attention. like but And then we like kind of zoom out and Sean's like, we're in the dock. We haven't even left. yet Calm down.
Speaker: ah Yeah, they eventually start like yelling at each other because that's just what they do. That's how they communicate. And Henry's like, give me a minute. I'm going to grab something.
Speaker: And the moment he... Well, first they do ask if he will go out on the reef. Oh, you're right. like you're Which, now that I say that, they wanted to go to the reef, which makes sense because it was where he was dropped off and also like the coral and stuff on Chabby. So, yeah.
Speaker: He says... Well, and and Henry makes a big deal that this is those are restricted waters. I'm not going out there. I'm not going to lose my boat, my license. huh And Sean's like, what if I told you it was for a case?
Speaker: And Henry's like, well, that would make it worse.
Speaker: Try to pull me into your shenanigans. Yeah, so that he's going to go grab something. And Sean takes this opportunity to steal the boat.
Speaker: I... And he this is what we we talked about already, but the whole, he wants me to steal it. And yeah. And he's like going nuts over on the dock. I love it.
Speaker: And Gus is like, I don't think he doesn't really look like he does. Yeah, I love this performance. Corbin did an amazing job. You could just feel the seething.
Speaker: deep down Yes, it was so good. But Sean does not care because we need to find the truth. So they drive off into the open ocean, which to me is terrifying.
Speaker: But have at it. They're looking. And they're and they're Yeah, trying to, but I guess, figure out, like, where they're going. Because it seems like Sean has kind of gotten them lost after a period of time. because he doesn' Yeah, and it's dark.
Speaker: Like, we kind of cut away and then we cut back and it's, like, dark outside. Yes. So I don't know when they were doing that, but. I don't know. It seems like they've been out there a long time. Yeah, and I can imagine, too, that's got to be very disorienting.
Speaker: being on the open ocean and like not having much experience in it being pitch black yeah they don't seem super scared or anything and they don't i mean guess maybe sean is better at this than we think he has grown up around here and he may have he may know how to drive henry's other boats like he may have done this more than we than he really talks about yes even if he hasn't driven the boat he's certainly been on boats with him yeah he has like a little bit better sense of it yeah but yeah then sean has the revelation that they should go to those coordinates the last ones and he tells this was so funny to me like
Speaker: He's explaining what they are and he's like, and then like what I would use as a winking face in a text, which you wouldn't. And then ah Gus must put like a semicolon, which is what you wouldn't Oh, yeah, you're right. And he's like, in without an eye.
Speaker: He's like, no eye, like no ocular, like he makes it so much more complicated than it is. Yeah. um But yeah, he's trying to get to apostrophe. But um yeah, so that was kind of funny.
Speaker: and then um they kind of get to where they're going. And we get a guest don't be a. Oh, yeah. Guest don't be exactly half of an 11 pound black forest ham.
Speaker: hmm. Fair enough.
Speaker: And then, yeah they they get there, but when they get to the location, Gus seems a little spooked. like kick out the lights this all feels very it does kick out the lights which again pitch black they're not really near land i mean it's a reef so must be maybe not so super far out but um from something but yeah it's all very scary and like thinking that there is another boat out there
Speaker: that Gus can hear. Right. um But you can't see anything. And the way they they film this too is like wonderful. They like keep keep the shot on Sean and Gus in like pitch black but you can kind of see them of course because it's the TV show.
Speaker: But it's focused on them and then all of a sudden we get like big floodlights on them and a boat just pops up and you're like come on! Which is so fun. And it's these two fishermen that are on their boat who say who have an excuse for being there but again a little a little sketch and they're a little creep yeah but i do have uh sean introduces themselves uh my associate or whatever hummingbird saltalamachia yes which is one of the wildest i think we've had yeah his first name is hummingbird it's pretty good
Speaker: Yeah, and they both kind of have this shtick, which both of them, you know, are lying to each other, these fishermen yeah and Sean and Gus, and they're both in this place for reasons.
Speaker: um And they both are like, oh, I thought you were the Coast Guard. Oh, I was hoping you were the Coast Guard. um And these guys say that they stalled on their way Monterey. Sean's like, oh, Mexico.
Speaker: Yeah. And I love that Gustav knows. He's like, Monterrey, Mexico is like 2,000 miles inland. What you talking about? So funny. I love how that's done.
Speaker: I mean, it is all part of like Sean's, like he just, for these criminals to meet him, like, or anybody to meet him, he like just throws you off with such nonsense. And it's like, he was like an insane person. So it's like, you don't, right he disarms you in that way. Totally, totally.
Speaker: but Which in this case, I think the two, Gus and Sean have already realized like this is a, this is a sketch situation. Yeah. even though they're telling us that they've been drifting for an hour. almost like they have their lights off too. Right.
Speaker: Too convenient. and And also even the way they're talking, like they seem. Right. Like they're lying. Right. So disarming these people and being like, we're not.
Speaker: Yeah. Any concern. Yeah. It's good. and im just see I wrote down mike my whole rest of my notes are quotes.
Speaker: But they also tell them that they turn their lights off because of the sharks. Oh, my. that I could not stop laughing. and And these guys are like, that's not how sharks work at all. And he's like, well, not regular sharks, but we heard there's some mutant sharks here that can smell light.
Speaker: And he's like, they also type. Yeah, yeah. But they're very impressive. not Not well, but... You know, they have fins, so it's still impressive. You know, if therere if they're using that dolphin movie as any reference, I mean, they've taught them how to speak. so That's true. Maybe it is another reference to that. Light sense. You know, that's not anything out of the ordinary.
Speaker: I love that, like, Gus, again, playing in, just like, he's right along of course with Sean. They also type, like, what a bananas thing to add there. Yeah.
Speaker: But they they managed to get away. yeah they just like go back. Yeah, we kind of just cut of away and they're like getting close to shore. um And this brings us to one of my favorite moments, I think, in all of Psyche.
Speaker: Oh, yes. Just like the way... the drama of them coming to the to the pier and henry's there with jules and lassie and they're like oh my god he called the cops yeah yeah and then they just know outside of the realm of something henry would do yeah um and they get closer they're like dad really like you called the cops and he's like no they called me and and then they it reminds me kind of of when they're on the um oil rig And confronting that girl.
Speaker: And like I feel like being on the water adds like an urgency and an intensity to like. Totally. And being outside and just like those sounds. Yeah. But they say he was shot.
Speaker: Or no, he was. ah They found 22. They found a bullet or whatever. And then Lassie says 22 or 22 caliber slugs actually. And Gus says he was shot.
Speaker: And Lassie says he was murdered. du Oh my gosh, just that delivery, everything about it. I'm like, it's just incredible. And like, it feels the drama. I feel like it is one of the most dramatic moments in the whole show. And it's such a like, and and I love that it's for Shabby and it's this case that nobody wanted. I mean, well, I guess, yeah, nobody wanted any part of.
Speaker: Yeah. Cause even Gus was like, seriously, I'm like, um And it's like, it's a serious thing. yeah And to say that he was murdered, because I feel like even for animals, like people don't typically use that word.
Speaker: Correct. And so, yeah, I just love it. So, yeah. And then commercial break. Yes. And then.
Speaker: And when we get back.
Speaker: we're back at the station yet again, which even though we're not arrested, we're back at the station for different reasons now. I think now they do have LaBeta. Yes. In. Yes.
Speaker: Now we've got LaBeta. I guess now we're kind of like, um something weird definitely happened on that. Well, and who shot him? Like, was it LaBeta? You were the last person to see him.
Speaker: Right. Totally. um And I think everybody kind of thinks it must've been him. Right. I mean, who else? Yeah, and nothing else really makes sense at this point other than... Yeah, because later when the hair analysts are looking at the footage, um like, Sean is like, he didn't kill him.
Speaker: He's just an egomaniac. So it's like they kind of are going into this now like, okay, LaBeta killed him. Right. And he's a he's a really fun he's a really fun one again. He's sitting in the interrogation room.
Speaker: Like a barn owl on his shoulder. And Lassie just looks so... Yeah. yeah but And poor Lassie. I'm sure in his mind, he's like, I've been dealing with our two resident lunatics all day.
Speaker: And now here you come with an owl on your shoulder. I don't want to deal with your owl. Make the owl go away. He's like, a it's really important. He might like bite my face off if I left him. oh Yeah, because he's going to be um doing a show with him.
Speaker: Yes, of course. So they have to bond. Yes. What better way to bond than an interrogation room? Yeah. And it does add like just further solidifies LaBeta's like ego- ego maniacal-ness because he is like this is all about me it's like you're being questioned about a murder yeah calm down yeah which once it does get a little more serious he's like some can someone take my bird yes someone take this away from me um yeah but we have then we have this moment where
Speaker: glassssie Lassie leaves for some reason. ah yeah Oh, because the feds call. Oh, you're right. And he tries to get Jules to take it because he's sick of hearing from them. And she's like, why don't you tell him yourself?
Speaker: um And so he leaves to take that call. And then there's this wonderful shot where Jules steps forward in the room and outside the door, April stepped forward in sync. It's kind of creepy.
Speaker: is quite creepy. um And then Loveda's like, of course it was you. Didn't I have you fired? Like, yeah, but we've got questions. And Jules asked some hard-hitting questions.
Speaker: Why was the sea lion tagged? And April's like, no yeah, we don't tag our animals, Randy. Yeah, because now they have that secret laptop. Yes. It's presumably they have searched his office. They got a warrant or whatever.
Speaker: and And she has it. And she's saying like we found animal tracking software on there. and um Yeah. And then I think that's the way where he's like someone's going to need to take this bird.
Speaker: Yes. Because he's going to. and Come clean. i Well, or no, he does he want his lawyer? he caught This is when he calls the assistant. Oh, he wants his phone call.
Speaker: That's right. yeah I want my phone call now. yeah um Yeah. Talk to the assistant. Two hair analysts are looking at it. He wants the assistant to burn the discs.
Speaker: Yes. Burn all of the footage of what's been happening, which i really I don't really know why he would do that. I guess he's just feeling cornered at this point.
Speaker: Yeah, I mean, it is incriminating, i think, also for his brand. um Well, for his brand, certainly. But for him as a murderer, like, he didn't murder the animal. You can see he didn't murder the animal.
Speaker: Yeah. But I think he probably doesn't want it to get out. Yes, again, I just, I love this. I love that Sean and Gus have already figured out that that would play well for this guy. Well, Sean specifically, because Gus is like hair analyst, and Sean's like, I've always wanted one myself.
Speaker: Yes. And he does really admire LaBeta's hair, so And he has like very nice, it's like very nicely coiffed and very nicely styled. And we even hear in some of the film that like, if one of my hairs is out of place, even my chest hair, you let me know. Although he does say it in a really nice way. Like he, as much of a diva he is, like he yeah, he's like, and just let me know.
Speaker: We'll stop. Yeah. I love that he references the chest here too. Yeah. It's so funny. Yeah. um But yeah, basically what we learned from all this footage is that they moved to another spot to release Shabby because there were too many, there were just like boats going by and stuff and it was ruining his shot.
Speaker: Yes. He just wanted it to be him and the ocean. Right. Yeah. And he does, he's not all bad, you know, like, and he's not all fake. Like, because he, like, even when he yells at that freighter, he's like, get your polluting ass out of the way.
Speaker: so it's like, he he doesn't seem like a total fraud. He's just like very narcissistic. Yeah. I like i like the diva term. I think he's just, like, he wants it how he wants it.
Speaker: Yeah. And so they get to this this other beautiful spot, the reef, to release Shabby in. And lo and behold, um we see that same boat.
Speaker: Those creepy fishermen in the background. So they were not stalled on their way to Monterey. They've been hanging out out there. There's definitely something going on. and But it doesn't all quite fit together yet.
Speaker: um But now the assistant is coming to get them out of there. and this Plan A or Plan B? This might be my favorite scene of the episode.
Speaker: Plan B. Without missing a beat, um the guy comes in and has sprawled out in his chair and Sean is standing with a horrified look and he says, oh my god, I killed him! And runs out of the office and then after a moment, Gus runs out too and the guy's just like, What?
Speaker: amazing it's very effective I want to know what plan A is yeah if this was plan B what was plan A and I love because again like you know we talk about how Gus tends to be a more straight laced guy but they worked this whole thing out and I wonder like do they have a Rolodex do they have like plan A through E and they just call them out whenever they you know or was this just like I'm gonna pick one of two which one do you want Yeah. And I wonder, like, was this just to get out of this situation or do they have this, you know, is it like Gus at the table where it's like they can call on plan B whenever, which i don't think we ever see again.
Speaker: No. I like to think that they use it somewhere. Yeah. Hysterical. Amazing. And then I believe we cut to our very brief scene with Jules and April sharing snack. They're sharing some sweet Maui onion chips. They're so cute.
Speaker: Yeah. In an interrogation room. And April is seemingly smitten. Smitten with Sean. Yeah. She's like, what's his deal?
Speaker: Yeah. Which a classic thing. And I feel like, especially for Sean, like she she says he's a little odd. Like, yes. Yeah. yeah I think he's a little odd, but when I know. Yeah. I'm available. Something about him.
Speaker: um And Jules gets real weird. Yes. Yes. Real weird, real fast. She tries to play it off, but, like, she does not. She's like, oh, mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Speaker: Yeah, and that's, I mean, really all we get of the scene. but Yeah. It's very quick. Yeah, I would like to think that that's kind of where kid ends. Like, hey they just like keep eating their snacks. Yeah, I think, I would think...
Speaker: seeing april and how she is with like interpersonal stuff like she seems very observant yes and like like she would really see the change of jewels and just probably like change the subject but like draw her conclusions yes um yeah then we jump to the dock we're thinking of stealing henry's boat again which gus is like that idea Sean's like, no, he wants me to go. Especially because are they going to go find those guys? Like, that sounds very dangerous. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, knowing Sean, probably. That's probably what he was planning on doing. But thankfully, Henry's on the boat and is like, no. It's like he's been, yeah he says, he's probably been waiting there since Thursday.
Speaker: bet he has. because he knows his son like as much as he like doesn't know how to communicate this is not over he knows yeah he feigned sick in the beginning yeah like he knows okay and he's been on a stakeout yeah or two so he knows he knows but it's good thing they didn't just jump in the boat because moments later they see our our creepy fishermen getting off their boat like a dock over And take advantage of the moment.
Speaker: Yeah. Gus is not excited about that, but. Understandably. They end up, I'm like, that's, yeah, that's really fair. They decide to sneak Snoop onto the boat and they look around and they discover a lot of really high tech equipment and, ah you know, big floodlights and. Yeah, like sonar.
Speaker: Sonar, yep. And some fishing nets and, ooh, some, techie piece. What could that be? i don't know. So they pull out the fishing net and unravel and find this techie piece.
Speaker: And Sean figures out that it was actually the tracker that was put inside of Shabby. Yeah. And it even says like property of Randy LaBeta on it. Yes. Just to make it clear.
Speaker: And Sean is like starting to piece it together. then he turns to the left, like they're on the deck. He notices 22 caliber bullets. And Gus is like, they killed him, Sean.
Speaker: Yeah. Like, it's really all coming together. And Sean's like, but why? Like, I love that. Like, we we have all the pieces, but yeah, it doesn't make any sense. The motive, yeah. You don't know yet.
Speaker: But then. the creepy fishermen start coming back. And we don't know what these creeppppe creepy fishermen are going to do to us because they're creepy. And Sean's like, jump in the water. And Gus is like, they'd see that.
Speaker: Like, what's wrong with you? Is there a shark cage? How would that be a good idea? Oh my God. For real. Like, what? But then Sean sees like a hatch that leads to, I guess, the lower storage part of the deck. yeah And they kind of quickly...
Speaker: squish their way into there. And Gus, again, not excited about this. No. And they're like seemingly, I couldn't tell if they were like next to each other or on top of each other, but they're certainly very cramped down there. They do not have a lot space. On top, but it would be hard to be on top of each other. Yeah.
Speaker: But definitely their heads for our benefit. was going to say, maybe they're we're meant to be on top of each other, but like for the advent of how do you shoot that without crushing the other person, it's like,
Speaker: to the side on top you i mean well i feel like even just like how that would feel physically and like being able to maintain that i don't think they could really be on top like sean could be on top of gus but so it makes sense that they would be like more side to side yes um but there yeah sean's head is on top of gus's head i mean like i love the way this is a shot that we just like yeah it keeps panning between their faces yeah
Speaker: Yeah, they're definitely, they're cramped, but they're in a pickle, so they kind of have to stay because now the two creepy fishermen are literally right above them, and one has like supersonic hearing. Yeah, he's like, I swear, the boat was moving.
Speaker: And then, yeah, and he hears them talking, he's like, do you hear that? um So, yeah, they're in a very, very precarious position. Yes, I'm sorry. Is it at, I think it's at this point. So then Sean sees the Rossinante flight plan who and he kind of remembers the lightning storm, the, you know, everything. He's like, solved it.
Speaker: I solved it. He's so proud of himself. And then the and Gus is like, shh. He's like, but I solved it. Yeah. that's I think that's one of the times that the guy is like, you hear that?
Speaker: Come on. The kind of other guy's like, I hear seagulls. Like, what are you talking about? And then, oh, is he going to call? Yes. And Gus is like, you can't call.
Speaker: What's wrong with you? And he's like, I'm going to text her now. Gus is like, mute your keys. Because it's like, beep, beep, beep. Yes. That's such an early two thousand s Yeah. your keys.
Speaker: So, yes, so he texts Jules and we see Jules like calling Vic over there urgently. um so Amazing. Yeah, so good. Yeah, Jules, she's like rare form in this scene. she she Like the way she calls Vic over, like, you know, she's usually quite I feel like, ah you know, respectful to Vic. Yes. And like quite professional.
Speaker: um But she's like, so so like, come over. And then ah later when Vic is trying to explain how to text, it's not use you instead of why I owe you and don't put the apostrophe and all that. And yeah, she's like cheap.
Speaker: Like she's like kind of acting like a teenager. Yeah. Which is really fun. It was so good. um But yeah, his text to Jules is amazing. didn't write it down. What exactly it say? I didn't write down the whole thing, but let me, have the, the transcript.
Speaker: She says, I just got a text from Sean Spencer, which I love that she says Sean Spencer, not just Sean. yeah um And Vic says, and what did it say? And Jules says, it says he solved the crime and And what?
Speaker: He's trapped in the hole of a smuggler's boat going out to sea. because the boat's moving. Yeah, because they're like, where the engine go on? And that's when they really freak out and they're like going to contact the police.
Speaker: yeah And then Vic is like, what do we do with that? How are we going to find them? Sean has the brilliant idea to use the shabby tracker.
Speaker: so good and i love after everything shabby you know came to help them oh that's so sweet yeah and i guess in a way labeda too that's true oh it's true yes little bit of even though had the tracker not been there to begin with none of this would happen that' But they also never would have caught these guys, maybe.
Speaker: Oh, that's true. They would have gotten away. Speaking to your you know moral quandaries. Yes. It's complex. It is. Yeah, so he texts Jules then to turn on LeBethys' laptop.
Speaker: ah But yeah, the back and forth between these two scenes is just so fun. And yeah and there's such an exciting energy. And then they do track him, track them, and theyre Jules is very confused because they have a very definitive location but it doesn't make any sense.
Speaker: He's like, well, how far out are they? She's like, First Street and Main. Yeah. um What the heck? That's very fun. And then Sean is like, Jules says to look outside.
Speaker: Because she thinks we're we not where we think we are. Yes, I love that she's not just like, you're on land, you dum-dum. Yeah. Like, take look yeah so and it's sweet too that sean is like well because gus is like what you can't go out there yeah and sean's like i trust her yeah and he does and they are going into a canning factory yeah near the docks presumably yeah yeah i change plans and they both pop up and they're standing there and then they they jump when the bad guys come around yeah as if they what the heck yeah we'll be there yes this is our boat yeah oh yes our boat's name is just chilling
Speaker: just chilling oh that's so dumb but then he I guess he realizes that A he's gotta buy some time and B lying isn't really helping them too much and then he just starts nutshell well the guy pulls a gun right oh yeah he does yeah yeah yeah you're right um which and I wrote down that's seven seven guns on Gus seven guns on Gus I love the the saying that seven guns on Gus ah poor gus he's gonna be held at gunpoint like 50 times by the of this i know i know we like he just had a major
Speaker: um good gun pulling episode yeah and now there's another yeah poor guy he's traumatic i hope he's seeing a therapist Yeah. Anywho.
Speaker: And then, yeah, they start riffing. Yes. They start the the whole summation, which the Rocinante, which I don't know if we referenced yet, but we definitely need to read Don Quixote de la Mancha because Rocinante is Don Quixote's donkey.
Speaker: Right? Isn't he? I don't even remember. think so. so many years, but that Yeah, let's see. so so now Fictional character.
Speaker: Don Quixote's horse. Yes, there we there you go. All coming together. Clear connection now. You have to. um But... Rocinante was a plane that was holding smuggled or stolen goods. We know there was diamonds on board at least.
Speaker: And it went down, Sean surmises, during the lightning storm. It didn't actually get out alive. And the authorities all think it got away. Right. But no, it actually crashed and wrecked into the middle of the ocean. And these fishermen took advantage of that and found the wreckage of the Rocinante.
Speaker: and took the diamonds and are presumably going to sell it. And when they were out there with all these smuggled goods, they saw something on their radar coming very quickly in their direction, thinking it was like a diver or someone coming to, you know, find them out.
Speaker: They shot into the water and sadly ended up killing Shabby. and love I love that one of the guys goes, you're here about a sea lion? He goes, I'm here for all the sea lions, Jack.
Speaker: I'm just looking back because there were some other. So they pulled him out of the water. he managed to break free from the net because because there was the net piece and that's how the tracker ended up on the boat.
Speaker: well And then Sean says, why? Because he was a winner. Yeah. And a very strong swimmer. And a survivor. That's right.
Speaker: At least for a couple of hours he was. And then you're here because of a sea light. and So it's so good. And then come
Speaker: they talk about the sea anemones. Yes. And they're stalling. Yes. solings The man's like, well, it's too bad. You can't do anything with all that information, isn't it now?
Speaker: And then yeah except Shabby left a little something behind. And I've been doing something I like to call stalling. And Rector Howard calls stalling. Stalling. And I was like, why? Gus is like, because he's Dutch.
Speaker: I love that. So funny. And he looks like, hello, idiot, because he's Dutch. Yeah.
Speaker: This is why buy a whole rest of my notes were quotes. Like it was just so good. So funny. And then all the cops pop out. and yeah Because of that. and yeah Lassie at Jules and everybody.
Speaker: And they get those guys. And then Sean tells Lassie check for his Rocinante smuggle stuff in the boat.
Speaker: her um And he's like, I'm helping him. It's two-way street. Which is cute. Yeah.
Speaker: then we jump to the office right yeah and Sean is putting cream in a drawer was like it is what is happening right now shaving cream or something um and April comes in and he's like I'm just i have to do some paperwork so that's what I'm doing here wacko wao um she's wearing her nice aquarium yep she's back to work yes we're very excited for her um and oh and he they have she explains that he won't be able to ride a dolphin yes so um and then he says you know he'll ride a whale and i love when she's like that's a joke and he has this little look on his face like yeah
Speaker: thank you little smoke not Not really a joke. yeah but But yeah, then she has this... Oh, he asks her out to dinner. he asks her out. says,
Speaker: yeah She says, I like her and I think you two will get there. Yeah. Which so them. Because it is like they'll have to get there.
Speaker: It's going to take time. Yes. But... The best things, the richest things. Yeah.
Speaker: And then she leaves and he's kind of like, what? What to think? But b yeah, um he'll be sitting with that, I'm sure. Two steps forward. Mm-hmm.
Speaker: Yeah. That is fun. Kind of tropey, too, that like Jules, you know she's really keeping the boundaries with him. And she...
Speaker: She doesn't want him, but she doesn't really want anybody else to have him either. Yes. I mean, not that she sabotages it or anything, but it's like very difficult for her to conceive of him seeing anyone.
Speaker: I think if this were different situation, like if they weren't working together, i think they would be dating. Yeah.
Speaker: But that's also, you know, this is how they... bond like that bond that they have that connection that they have yes never happen without that no totally i just think that jules i think maybe jules has an nick not acknowledged accepted yeah her feelings because if she accepts them then she has to really grapple with this whole yeah thing so yeah she she can't in her mind have him but also she doesn't want anyone else to because really she does want to be yeah
Speaker: yeah
Speaker: poor Jules yeah and again what is she like 25 yeah like very young in all this we've got time so that's the episode yay what do we have next a good one oh yeah oh yeah Lassie did a bad bad thing
Speaker: oh dang oh yeah Definitely, i mean, we were just talking about how like it doesn't do a lot of the kind of classic procedural things um that are done on more dramatic shows, but this is one of those. Yeah, this is pretty much as close as we get. Yeah, definitely a heavier episode.
Speaker: Very intense moments. Yes. We'll see if we need any beverages or anything. After we watch. Maybe candied nuts.
Speaker: Oh, perfect. I think that's what we should do.
Speaker: Yes. Candied nuts. Aren't there like specific ones that he eats too in the mix? Are there specific ones he picks out? Am I crazy? I don't know.
Speaker: but i just remember them going out to get them or Sean going out to get them. Oh, and then isn't there another thing too? Oh, but I think they are peanuts because he says my friends are part elephant or something like that.
