Speaker: All right. hi everyone, and welcome to the Psy6101, where we discuss everything about the world of Psyche and the antics of Sean and Gus in Sunny Santa Barbara. I'm Skylar, and this is my partner, Gibby Stockwell. And today we'll be talking about season four, episode one of the famed TV show Psyche.

Speaker: extradition British Columbia I had to pull it up just to make sure because I'm out of practice and I did not write it down but I was pretty sure that was it yeah that but that's a fun title considering again it's our first time out of the country who and we are in British Columbia a.e.

Speaker: Canada but we don't actually extradite him to the states well i mean no i guess they may wait no because he's in prison in canada oh yeah he's in prison came all yeah yeah he is huh maybe it's just the the dream of extraditing him that lassie has oh my god lassie this episode i did that man cracks me up after watching i had to go back to lassie did a bad bad thing and look at his board i don't think

Speaker: They were so forward-thinking enough to actually have Despero on there. But I just wanted to see if it was, like like, people from Santa Barbara. Or or did he have this just, like, global watch list that he was, like... Because the way he talks about Despero in this episode is, like, as if it's just, like, a passion project, like a hobby.

Speaker: Doesn't it seem like that? Yes, but then he's also, like... i am his worst nightmare and at the end he introduces himself and pierre's like he's been like oh following this man which yeah because there's a few things that are like funny it's the fact that this no offense to santa barbara but it's not that it's not like a metropolis yeah really and like so that this detective in some California city as fixated on this global art thief.

Speaker: And, and, and I wanted to see what his board looked like because. Yes. I was like, did Despro steal something in Santa Barbara? Like how did this even come to him? And in that episode, the board is all like mugshots from SVPD.

Speaker: So I do think it implies that at some point, he was there. Stole something in Santa Barbara. Hmm. And Lassie just like latched on to this story.

Speaker: yeah i could I could totally see him... Yeah, if we if we hadn't seen the board, I could totally see Lassie being, like, the wacko who just also happens to have, like, the FBI's 10 most- Right, exactly. Like, he has a copy of it, and it's his personal mission. Correct. To catch one of them or all of them. Like, that seems very much a delusion that Lassie would have. Yeah.

Speaker: But yeah, if it's just s SPPD, then he must have, like, at minimum, come through the town. Yeah, which I could see. I mean, definitely... yeah wealthy area there's you know wineries and stuff i could see there being art there that could be stolen so why not yeah yeah i did have to check on that so um it is funny to watch lassie be doing this like I feel like he thinks he's in The Fugitive. Have you seen that?

Speaker: Yes, I love it. That is one of the movies on my dad's list. So I've seen that movie many times. And I have been thinking about that movie recently. And like it is, you know, you see both the The Fugitive and The Detective and you're with both of them and they kind of have, it's like kind of about their relationship almost. yeah I mean, it's been years since I've seen this, but yeah.

Speaker: Yeah, it's like ah an interesting dynamic. And I feel like that's what Lassie thinks he has with Death Row. 100%. he thinks he has a close personal relationship with Death And he does not.

Speaker: yeah and if this was like... I could see too if this was more... like today you know where like parasocial relationships are very common and like who knows maybe despero has like an instagram you know and it's not that like it's the early 2000s mid 2000s yeah i mean i'm sure parasocial relationships always happen but it just the means correct like where how he's keeping tabs on this man is interesting He's so funny. so This is the man who has a little black book of like all the people he's arrested.

Speaker: He must find a way. Yeah, and this particular criminal probably makes the news a lot. Oh, I'm sure. maybe he just has like a Google alert going. Oh, that could be.

Speaker: Yeah, I could see that. I mean, we we got at one point... Not to jump ahead, as we always do, but we got just a couple of the places where he has confirmed thefts.

Speaker: Like London, Belgium, Switzerland, South Africa. like He's definitely been yeah been around the block. Yeah, and that's a really interesting like next level to take us to in psych because it has all been very local.

Speaker: yeah extremely. Yeah, and even the big baddies, even Yang, who we just met, is like very local. She is a serial killer in Santa Barbara. Right.

Speaker: And so to suddenly be dealing with this literal international art thief is... Yeah. That's a big like level up for us. Yeah. And with the same amount of like preposterous silliness.

Speaker: Like, ah one of my favorite... There's so many great beats in this episode, but one of my favorite ones is when Gus is like, how are we going to make sure it's him? And Sean just goes, Pierre!

Speaker: That's your plan? And it worked!

Speaker: Points at him. oh I know. Is that a little bit of a giveaway for Despro? Like, that he is that... Maybe. Like, that he would even acknowledge that? Yeah, maybe.

Speaker: Maybe... It's a little bit of a tell that like he's not what we think he is. Yeah, but he never will be. because we don't even know what he is.

Speaker: Yes, we have an idea of what he's done now. Yes. But he is still very much... and He is still an international man mystery and will be forever.

Speaker: it Yes, I know. Well, and I will be interested to see... Because there has been talk of eventually more psych movies, you know, a continuation of the world. Will we get even more about Desperate? Like, will questions be answered? I don't.

Speaker: That is the fun thing about, like, that character is that there is no, like, you can always go back to him. Yeah. He's like a soap opera character. Yeah.

Speaker: And it is interesting to think of because he has, like, three episodes, right? three Maybe there's a two-parter there, I think, or two. There could be. But definitely three stories with him. Yes, yes.

Speaker: And I feel like every single one, level again, levels up. like You have to keep raising the stakes every time we go back to him. So it would be interesting to see what they did next if he did have the opportunity to come back to this world. But...

Speaker: He's a fun, very fun character. no No, that's all was going to He's a very fun character. He is. I was just thinking, like, the idea of, you know, raising the stakes, taking, now we're going international and stuff. It's also interesting because Yang, where we just came from, is like, Sean has met his match.

Speaker: And, like, finally someone, and she has decided it's someone worthy. And that's, we get echoes of that here, too. Yes, definitely. at At some point, does Despro call him like a worthy opponent or something like that? He Yeah, when they're sitting something, he's says something along those lines when they're sitting at dinner. Like, now that I know that, o you know, you're yeah you capable.

Speaker: Yeah. I don't remember what it was, but yes. Yeah. And like, that is an interesting thing too, because Despro comes into this having no idea who Sean is, whereas Yang has watched Sean.

Speaker: Right. For 20 years. Right. ish yes um okay but death row is like watching sean prove himself kind of in real time and then comes to that conclusion right i mean that's rather quickly yeah yeah it's fun it's an interesting game of like Sean impressing Despero whilst Despero makes him look a fool to everybody else.

Speaker: I love that line of, um I'm going to steal a manet. I'm going to make you look foolish. Yeah, the delivery of that is, and wrote that down too. Just the way he says it.

Speaker: So good. But it's true. it's Every, every, every every little once in a while here really every time that there's a a crime that's committed Sean looks kind of dumb like he does he jumps off Despero jumps off the roof and they get upstairs and then oh it's not he didn't jump off the roof even though Sean and Gus literally saw him jump off the roof no no he's down where was it the service entrance or something yeah someone seen in the service right how could he have jumped off the roof from a handstand he wasn't doing a handstand I know Gus is like heightening it that doesn't help really not even

Speaker: anyway And then it's like ah the they steal, he steals the manet, but then there's the clown photo and now they've like, you know, done all of that. Hullabaloo.

Speaker: And then the the crown and like, oh, if the crown's gone. We didn't save it. Whatever. Yeah, he does definitely make him look foolish over and over yeah and over again. But yeah it's fun because it seems like even though he's making him look foolish, Despero's realizing that Sean's not really foolish.

Speaker: Yes. He's still figuring out what Despero's doing. um Managing to find out where his hotel room is. Managing to figure out like what he's going to steal after he told him he was going to steal things. Managing to figure out that he's, spoiler alert, not actually stealing things. Yeah.

Speaker: yeah Yeah, I feel like um that Despero's expression when he turns the lights on and Sean is in the room with him. um Yeah, I feel like you can kind of, it's a very stoic and blank almost, but he does look like he's like, okay, I need to yeah think to be careful with this guy kind of. like Yeah, and try to use him.

Speaker: the best of his ability like i love the whole like it was all a show for me he was packing for my benefit in in this vision he had because he can't course but i also love like like what an interesting concept like p despro must have First of all, bear with me.

Speaker: First of Desperate must have been sitting in this room in the dark by himself for noise no reason. I know. Did he hear Sean coming? i don't know. But then he sees Sean coming and he just continues to sit there and waits for the the Miller's Crossing reference to then make the Miller's cross Crossing reference.

Speaker: And then decides, okay, but hold on, pause. I have to pack to throw him off. and then get him out of the room. Like, it's a lot of mental gymnastics for a couple minutes. Yeah. But Despero is sharp. He Oh, very.

Speaker: ah Like, he sort of falls in Sean's eyes by the end of this. like Yes. It does take some very impressive, you a very impressive criminal to achieve what he has achieved. And also with the flair. Yes.

Speaker: that he has about it. Yes, exactly. He does. He has quite the flair. And the gear and stuff. like He is very cool. It's just he's using that coolness for sort of a not cool crime. But like how effortlessly he... The way he sells that not cool crime is very cool.

Speaker: Yes. Yeah, he's he's very debonair. Very smooth. And like to make it them think that he was in and out of their under their noses, like that is pretty...

Speaker: pretty badass even though like ultimately it's a ploy but that's kind of what henry is saying like the only ah way it's a perfect crime is if it looks like one yes i speaking of which i love this flashback yes let's start from the beginning now that we've gone over everything else Now that we've followed our usual force of action. broken level and yeah so Let's start at the top.

Speaker: I love this flashback because we get one of those like just beautiful Henry golden nuggets of truth where... Sean's coming in from school and Henry's got just the lovely young Henry hair. I really noticed the young Henry hair this time, um which if you haven't been with us before, listener, Henry, when he's in regular time, has his normal hair.

Speaker: And then when he's young, they just put a wig on him. That's it. That's the difference, which we love. But Sean comes in and turns out Sean didn't turn in his art project.

Speaker: And this is a ah big problem for Henry, of course, because Sean must do his schoolwork. So he tells him, why did you turn your art project? And Sean says, must have been an art thief. Someone must have come and taken. I don't think it has ever occurred to me in all the times I've seen this, that like art thievery is occurring too. Like I i get, you know, lying and the perfect crime and all that stuff, but it's an actual art theft, yeah which is very fun. Yes, it must

Speaker: And so like, just such a Sean thing. Like what other child would be like, obviously it's art theft. Like someone came in and took my painting and only my painting because it was that good. And it's great too, because the story that Sean is telling is that it's an art theft, but that's a cover for what's actually ah happening, which is still a misdeed of sorts. And so it's like,

Speaker: art that art thievery as a cover yes exactly really playing as always on multiple levels yeah and i i love that henry is just like why sean why why why would anyone do that and sean goes it's a perfect crime like that's why for the thrill of time the delivery of that this young sean so good so good hey no I know. It's the perfect crime. Hello? Obviously.

Speaker: And then he's like, there's no such thing as a perfect crime. Don't you forget that. Make the art. you got something I wonder what he made but this art project.

Speaker: And cute that they're getting ready for open house, too. Oh, yeah. Aw. School. And then we come back. We're coming to the present.

Speaker: Mm-hmm. Yep, Sean walks in on a performance review. know. Him and Gus just waltz right into the chief's closed meeting. was like, what?

Speaker: And she was really not that mad about it. and No, she knows their shenanigans. That is like a serious thing though, the performance review. And you she's like, I thank you for not interrupting. It's like a weird thing to thank me for, but you're welcome. Anytime. yeah i do have to say, i love Vic's hair in this little shop. We see her for like two seconds I'm just like, oh my God, Vic looks so cute. It's a little bit darker than we've seen her with before, but we like it. Yeah, true. True.

Speaker: And, oh, we are asking, the reason that we're there, of course, is we are asking Vic for an advance on a check for a case that doesn't exist yet because the boys have run through all of their money. And by that, I mean Sean has run through all of their money.

Speaker: Well, and I love the jokes, too, that Lassie's like, how are you out of money? You have no expenses and no possessions. Correct. And they're like, true. But we have a ski vacation. Yeah.

Speaker: Which we later find out has all been put on Gus's card. Which I'm like, Sean, you're crazy man. I know. yeah's good Talk about, you know, the trust issues that we have seen for these two. Like,

Speaker: He put an entire vacation on Gus's credit card. andcation And it was a vacation with Abigail. And he lied Gus DeSalis for him at the last minute. Like, man. Man. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: ah yeah And it is definitely funny this whole episode, like, watching Gus be like, what is happening? love how they pepper in the little details about, like, the romantic. Yeah.

Speaker: It's... it's yeah It takes a while for Gus to catch on, really. Well, yeah. And I feel like maybe part of that is just the shenanigans that they do all the time. That's true. He has a high bar for Yeah. For preposterousness. Yeah.

Speaker: So, yeah, I guess maybe we would go on a nice carriage ride at night. Spontaneous vacation to start with. I know. And then the reservations.

Speaker: Yes. The rose petals. but Yeah. And I love how that was. Cause like, i don't know. The rose petals in particular was just like thrown in there. Yes. you see could Like they're not at, like we went to the restaurant, but we're just like, i don't know. I like, like ah I like how Gus is like reporting this to us in a way. Like,

Speaker: And he's like, why would they do that? Because it's sweet and nice. And then I think that's when it occurs to him, right? when I think it's when they're on the carriage ride.

Speaker: oh Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's right after. And Sean's talking to the raccoons, which I feel hysterical. And also, I love, Sean is, like, and not perturbed by doing any of this with Gus. No, of course not.

Speaker: Gus, you know. I wonder if Gus had been told, like, if Sean told Gus, I planned this for Abigail, I have all of these reservations, like, I don't want to lose the money, come with me. If Gus would have been like, carriage ride! Expensive restaurant! But because he's like, I'm confused, he's just like, what's so what's happening? What? Sean's like finally making his move after all these years.

Speaker: I feel like Gus is or Sean is in a bit of a hole because not only is it for Abigail, but he put it all on Gus's card. So like, i feel like to confess that, that it's for Abigail, not even for Gus. Because I guess he uses Gus's money for lots of things all the time. but like um And if he you know decided they needed to go on a ski vacation and used it like use gus's money for that maybe gus wouldn't be as surprised yeah but the fact that it was for somebody else and now he's the like alternate yes maybe that would be hard to swallow and sean's just like trying to walk that line

Speaker: Yeah. I wonder if I wonder if Gus allows Sean to have any money or if it's just like it's it's my money and you're going to use my credit card. and Because I can't imagine like giving Sean half of the money for the things that they have gotten checks for. And then Gus not being able to like pay for rent for the psych office or like electricity.

Speaker: Probably not. yeah i don't know if sean has any that's funny if sean has like an allowance i bet he does because i guess he would need some cash like for his snacks and stuff yes well what's a petty cash maybe he's a v cash yeah yeah there's gus keeps a little drawer yeah for sean but then he has like an actual drawer somewhere hidden with like the rest of the money yeah so i think yeah he's definitely controlling the money I can't. Yeah. He's got to. i well I love that. Speaking of controlling the money, I love that. Then we we jump to British Columbia. i on

Speaker: I don't know if Whistler is like a mountain or a location, but we see a sign that says Whistler and they're on a ski mountain. it a mountain. There we go. They're in their whole get up and Sean is drinking coffee and like the first line. Hot cocoa. Hot cocoa. Sorry. Yes, you're right. Drinking hot cocoa. And Sean is like, well, this is the last of our money.

Speaker: So we're going to have make the rest of it count. And Gus is like, what? And Sean's line is, the American dollar was not as strong as I anticipated, Gus. He just cannot be in charge of anything serious.

Speaker: No. Yeah, they're out of money after four hours. Yeah. I love, at some point, I forget when exactly, but Gus is like, all you own is that hot chocolate. like All of his assets in the world are that hot chocolate. And that's also probably technically owned by Gus as well. That's true. please guscar Yeah.

Speaker: oh Yeah, so we get we get that to start. They're they're looking very adorable in their ski attire. With their little you know winter hats. They are decked out, so I'm sure that one on the credit card, too. You're right. Well, that's a good question, too. like Does one in California just have winter attire?

Speaker: I mean, California has a lot of mountains, too. And Santa Barbara, actually, you could get to like Mammoth probably pretty soon. in reasonable amount of time so it wouldn't be impractical for them to already have some kind of one to have some stuff yeah but but yeah but i don't know that our guys would probably not at least maybe not ski gear but sean has lived a lot of lives oh that's true he has had a lot of possible there well i guess they're not good at skiing but it's i could see him having worked

Speaker: in a ski lodge be yeah behind a bar somewhere yeah ski lift operator is a good one totally maybe not the instructor yeah something yeah i could see that a moose wrangler or something oh yeah yeah just passing through yeah winter yes yes and then in the distance Oh, no, no. First, we have to talk about the girls walk by. Yes, I wrote that down too. Yes. Fascinating.

Speaker: Yes. little bit of A little bit of like hints of the possibility of a flirty Sean coming out. but then Yeah, well and I thought it was interesting that he said, a month ago, I would have had us dialed up with those girls tonight.

Speaker: Which, is there stuff we just haven't seen? Is he hooking up with... people all the time and we just don't aren't privy to that maybe that could certainly could be that is where we meet him in the pilot that's true that's true I mean, I feel like maybe.

Speaker: i could also see Sean thinking that he has more game than he actually does. Very true. Both of them. Yeah. We've seen Gus. or we've Yeah. No, we've seen him not have games. so Not.

Speaker: Oh, too funny. what What I also get from that is him and Abigail have been together for just a month. um so So it's been a month since Yang? That's what it seems like. Wow.

Speaker: right because if if not like that was i mean that's when he started he said no to jules now he's like serious about abigail guess it makes sense that we wouldn't want to jump ahead too far um because we want to you know yeah yeah and we want to kind of work through what sean and jules of course where they've left things which that's a very interesting yeah i guess that's really the main like tension carried over from the last episode yes which i think it's but i think it's very interesting it is interesting what happens in this episode not what i i didn't remember really what happened in this episode i did feel like i think we talked about how we weren't sure if certain things happened in this episode or when correct the proposal and they did happen this episode yes some of them

Speaker: Some of them. We were like combining that, I think, in our heads. Yes. So that is interesting. yeah But he ends up kind of on a date with Jules, basically. so I know. I know. We will get there. because Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. we Gasp. Put on the brakes.

Speaker: We will get there. So then, so we've known that Abigail and Sean have been together for a month. Sean would have hit on the girls, but couldn't because now he's a taken woman. And then we see a guy that Sean recognizes in the distance. And I loved this little montage. Yes. So interesting.

Speaker: Yes. Because we've talked a bunch about like, what are the flashbacks? Like how does Sean's... brain kind of work like what does it look like to him versus what it looks like to us and it was fun here to see literally what is going on in his brain as he like cycles through all the faces he's seen in the last yeah because we've talked about like how he just kind of like takes in like he's taking in information all the time and then late at a later date he will like recognize it as important which i guess is literally what he's doing yes right now and he's cycling through those bases and it's also it's interesting as he does that to see what kinds of bases he clocks like there were a lot of baseball caps and sunglasses and and i feel like i got the impression that he is noticing yes suspicious characters

Speaker: And we Yang in there. and Right. I mean, Henry says it later in the episode, what did I train you to do? Like, that it it is exactly what he's been, suck up all of the information, anything that stands out that might be important later on, and then go back to it when necessary.

Speaker: Yeah, i also thought it was interesting how how quickly, I mean, it literally took him like three seconds to find him. yeah That is pretty insane considering, again, this is more than a month later because when he saw Lassie's board was when we were with, what was his name? Drimmer? Drimmer.

Speaker: Him. Yeah, what episode, what number episode was that of last season? Here, let me pull it up. think I have it open already cause I was checking the

Speaker: 11. that was January 2009. Yang was February 2009. So a couple of months at least. At least. And then now and then another month after that. So maybe like, say like three months.

Speaker: That's crazy. Yeah. for him to be able to pull from that far back with such precision. Which guess like, are you sure that's him? yeah And then when we get the shouting of the name, turns out it's him.

Speaker: But i mean, that's pretty impressive. Yeah, and we we see him be, like, impressive a lot. It's fun that it takes him... considering we are in a TV show and he can do any magical thing, like it's fun that we actually get to see him place Despero.

Speaker: yeah And like, like for his mind to work like that and not just be like, oh my gosh, that's the guy from Lassie's Board, you know, that he that he does have to work at it a little bit is fun.

Speaker: Yes, I agree. It's nice to get like, to see inside the workings. Yeah. Get to see behind the the magic. What's the, there's this? Yeah, works. title Behind the magic, I think is, think a lot of sense.

Speaker: and you So then we yes then we we find out that, yes, he Despero was a suspect on Lassie's watch list in his apartment. and I love that Gus is like, when Lasseter killed that guy?

Speaker: And Sean's like... he didn't kill him exonerated him and he's like i'm still not sure up that's so good they're just so stupid i just say i love their banter back and forth it's you know i love that like sean also has no idea how to say his name just dispound i know i try i really wanted to remember it so i like put dashes in there it was like desperate I think something like that it to be fair it is spelled impossibly d e s t e r e a very French very French um so that's fair and Pierre of course pierre the spirroom yes very very French and the whole conversation with Lassie is hilarious it is prime psych it is so good are you in my apartment

Speaker: Oh my god.

Speaker: Interesting. Yes. Interesting like little detail. So we know... ah sure What is his name? Lasseter has moved. Because we didn't know yes that, did we?

Speaker: We... we He said he was going to move when when all of the people were invited to his house. All of his arrests. Right. And then must have moved into an apartment at some Yeah. And i at first when I...

Speaker: observed that detail i was like thinking maybe the divorce would have had something to do with that too uh maybe that could which it may have but yeah um and then the party i guess at the party and also d drimmer being there with sean oh true yeah oh that house is seen too much yeah yeah too much was that an apartment or was that a house i don't think it was clear Okay. It was definitely just his belongings. We don't really know. Maybe he's moved like a bunch of times. I could see that. Yeah. He's traumatic experiences. Yeah, he keeps having to hide. People keep finding him. You know, all the wrong people though. Sad.

Speaker: Yeah, I love that this conversation devolves into like ah Sean trying to be like, I've definitely found the guy. I have absolutely. And Lassie's like, you have no jurisdiction up out there. Actually, you have jurisdiction anywhere. Stop it. You would felt down too.

Speaker: Especially in Canada. And Sean is like, what kind of reward are we talking? Like, because they have got to pay off this yes vacation. And I love Gus in the background, like, ask him about taxes.

Speaker: ah pre

Speaker: silly. So silly. Ask him about taxes. Like, what are they going to get paid? Like, Canadian dollars? and Yeah, and that is part of the discussion. Like,

Speaker: You know, how have this reward is going to cross the border. So, so silly. I just can't. And then the skiing is so funny. Wait, before we move on with that, I just have to... So Lassie works himself up so much.

Speaker: Oh, so funny. I feel like wrote it down, I thought. But something like... I will see you in five hours. Oh, wait. No, that's later.

Speaker: Is it after the skiing? It's... Yes. I wrote it down, too. Hold on. I have 325 days of unused vacation time. I will see you in 24 hours. So do they stay... I just watched this. Do they stay on with Lassie that whole time?

Speaker: No, it's when they get to the police station. And then they call him back? the pete The police station calls Lassie. yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, okay, okay. All right. yeah I'll table that then. Okay. Because that is, I love that scene too.

Speaker: oh So then the boys realize that, yes, it's Despro. We got to go get him, obviously. So they ski after him. And this is just so, so freaking funny.

Speaker: I love that. was Sorry. No, I just said so funny. Yes. Oh, yeah. So funny. I love that the I've never skied before, so I don't know if this is like a common description, but I love that the ski instructor clearly realized their love of food and told them pizza slices. no That is like is just the thing. i love that pizza i don't know about French fries, but I know pizza is is the go to.

Speaker: I was like that that is so funny if that's not a thing but I mean it still works and watching them try and s ski watching them which is probably not in reality them it's probably like stunt doubles but watching yeah whomever it is playing these two characters skiing down this hill is so funny and which is a great stunt performance because they are probably doing something that's e easy. But they are making it look like it's not. They're making it look very hard, yes.

Speaker: For these particular people. yes It's easy for them, hard for Sean and Gus, and they are selling it. Correct. And then they're like, oh, we're doing such a good job for keeping up with him. There's only one thing you can't do. And he turns and Gus goes, a slow turn to the left?

Speaker: but That's it? It's just so stupid. And then they somehow manage to find themselves in the middle of traffic. Like they they stop, they're down the hill in the middle of traffic. Yeah, they go through some sort of barrier end up in the road.

Speaker: i love that sequence too because I feel like it really, um you know, sometimes you like really pull out the stops for a premiere and that felt like it. Like we had a pink needle drop and stunts.

Speaker: it felt like big stunts. yeah it it felt like big it was It was, yeah. It felt, yeah, very important. We're going to catch him, you know?

Speaker: and My favorite part of this whole thing, though, with chase sequences, they get to the end, and Sean pulls out the fucking hot chocolate from somewhere. Oh, yeah.

Speaker: He pulls the hot chocolate out, and it's like, this is now a write-off. Yes. Such a great little button on that. So silly. And the title sequence.

Speaker: Beanie, beanie. So exciting. So good. And I think there's new ec clips in there. Yeah, there were I'm going to get to Yes. Very exciting. I know, I do love when they do that, when they put in upcoming and here shots. Like, gives you something to look forward to, you know? Yeah.

Speaker: So we've realized now that this is, in fact, Despero. He therefore must be here to steal something. So we want to inform the authorities. So we go to Vancouver Police Department where we meet McIntosh.

Speaker: Who informs them that Despero is like... a highfalutin art theft person, art thief, art criminal, him. Art thief.

Speaker: Yeah. And he's hit a bunch of places all over the world. We said London, Belgium, Switzerland, South Africa, just to name a few. And Sean and Gus are realizing that they obviously want to get in on this case, but these people don't know them.

Speaker: So they got to do the shtick all over again. Yeah, and I love the idea of like when Gus says, are you sure you want to do this? And Sean's like, I've done it once before. like it is they have to start over.

Speaker: And that's so fun to see, you know, him like convincing people again. Because he does it every once in a while, but not to not to anyone that it's going to be like a long-term play to. It's usually like someone who he just needs momentary information from. Right. So for him to really have to impress another group of cops is fun, you know.

Speaker: There's a line in here about the mentalists, and I'm trying to remember. Yes. where Well, I do. They go back and forth quite a bit trying to explain how he helps the police, I guess. And yes they're like, have you seen the mentalist?

Speaker: Yes. Oh, yes, yes, yes. Have you seen the mentalist? And they're like, it's just like that, except he is fake. If it were the same, it would be a virtual carbon copy. So you're throwing down with the mentalist once again.

Speaker: Which is interesting because it's funny because in reality they're they're they're similar, but they're not the same. Yeah, I think the execution is very different, but the concept is basically the same.

Speaker: The concept of, like, I'm hyper observant and I help the police is the same. And I tell them I'm a psychic. Correct. They're very different shows. Yeah. No, the tone is very different. Yeah. and yeah But I remember. It's very serious.

Speaker: Yeah. Certainly more than this. In comparison. kind of yeah It's got some fun tone. But definitely darker than Psych. Yes.

Speaker: um But I do remember like being a Psych fan and seeing commercials for The Mentalist coming out and being like, They just ripped off Psych. Yeah, yeah, yeah. um And so I do love that that is a thing.

Speaker: But it's also, it's it's like loving because it's also Sean's favorite show. And they reference it a bunch. yeah And so it's like, yeah, you stole from us, but it's okay. I love it adds back into what we've spoken about before, which is this is the world just without yeah psych as a thing in it. True.

Speaker: so it's like the mental, the show, but this is really us. We're really doing this. And I can't be a fake psychic because if I was a fake psychic, then it would be eerily similar. so yeah definitely not the same but it's like that virtual carbon copy and then i do also love that one of them mentions that they've solved over 47 cases yes that's a lot that is a lot yeah they should be proud of them themselves i kind of stopped on that number too but it has been three seasons so that's that makes sense

Speaker: 47 episodes at that point? Is that where that number comes from? We said 16 apiece. 16 times 3. think 1, 2, 3, 4. was four But the first season is 15. So I think it's 15, 16.

Speaker: There you go. So then yeah. sixteen yeah That would be 47.

Speaker: That's fun. That is fun. little meta. Yes. Solved over 47 cases. I love Sean getting his having episode. And Macintosh is like, it's a bit off-putting.

Speaker: You get used to it. but Yeah, he makes a bunch of good poles biking to work. So we'll just have a But then the best one of all of them. Macintosh is like, gotta to go get the boss. like He has to know about this. like what yeah What's happening?

Speaker: And I love when his name is Ed, the boss. Ed walks out. McIntosh has him. And Sean's like, I got nothing. Gus? Gus is like, i i what? I've got nothing. But I love that Sean asks Gus because as we've discussed, they are psychic detectives together.

Speaker: So one must do this collectively. And then a giant banner passes behind him that says, happy birthday, Ed, on it. Which starts a whole,

Speaker: what I am looking at this guy, Ed. Yes. Sadly passed away in 2013. His name is in real life, by the way. And he was in Real Genius.

Speaker: What? Who was he in Real Genius? He was. Wait, what? Hold on. who Real Genius. David Decker. i don't remember people, the characters, well enough to place that. Wasn't Decker the, ah wasn't he the guy in the house? Yeah.

Speaker: Like the antagonist, was he? you know, he might be the cop. There's like a surprising amount of pictures of real genius on IMDB to go through.

Speaker: he doing like the testing? You see my video?

Speaker: Oh, yes. Oh, okay. Yes. so or he's in it. That's anyway. Yeah. That's what matters. He's a real genius. Yay.

Speaker: and And I mean, I feel like they, since his name is the same as his character name, that always makes me feel like they asked for him, you know they offered him him. Yeah. um Which I love.

Speaker: Yeah. And I do love him in this role because he's like a very serious. So fun. Guy. Yeah. hu like a real straight man to these yeah very much these two hooligans yeah and the delivery of like are you kidding me and gus is like yes yes we are it's so funny yeah two of them bickering beforehand like no it's too it's too obvious don't do it no funny oh and then of course he's like on board

Speaker: Yeah, he's like amazed by this. Yeah, understand it yourself. It would be probably weird if you didn't realize that a big banner that said Happy Birthday, Ed didn't just pass behind you. Yeah, totally. And then... I wrote down Nigel New, but I'm not sure wit what the context for it was, but he makes a reference to his old friend Nigel St. Nigel.

Speaker: with me. Oh, new. Yes. Where was that? Yeah, he did he did do that, which was Somewhere in there. Somewhere. can and And then we have the best.

Speaker: yeah so i just Yes. You may begin. will try my best.

Speaker: They call, well, McIntosh calls Lassie or Ed calls, no, Ed calls Lassie. Ed calls Lassie. Yeah. That's right. A couple of fellas you work for. so sorry.

Speaker: What did Sean have to say to them? Because they started off saying to McIntosh, like, oh, we're consultants. Like, we work, you know, with them. And then somehow he's head detective. I wonder if getting in, like, going up against the boss, maybe he felt like he needed to come in with some more gravitas. Yeah, maybe. Like, I'm the head detective from the Santa Barbara Police Department. Oh, my God.

Speaker: um And, of course, that is very annoying to Lassie. was actually the head detective. Yeah, and just the idea that he would work for Sean. Yeah, preposterous.

Speaker: Cannot be. And this is when he shouts the, I have 325 days of unused vacation time. I will see you in 24 hours. Yeah, because Lassie tells Ed, I think that he's going to come and Ed's like, well, you better take that up with your superiors. And so he puts Sean on and I love Sean is playing with the toy police cruiser that must have been on Ed's desk. oh Of course. Of course.

Speaker: um And he's like, don't know, buddy, don't you think you should work on your old cases? Buddy, I can't. And this and ah by this time, Lassie is standing up and is like, yeah i have 325 days of unused vacation time. I will see you in five hours. And then cut to a wide shot with Jules and Vic staring at him. It's just the sheer idea that they have been there for this whole conversation in the middle of a meeting.

Speaker: I had to go back and watch the phone call again because I wanted to watch it knowing that they were right there. yeah. yeah So funny. funny. Lassie just ratchets up.

Speaker: Yep. Chief. but Yeah. yeah

Speaker: I know. Him talking this big game of like, he will be there. He knowpe he doesn't answer to anybody. And then, Chief. No. And she's like, kidding me?

Speaker: no yeah And Jules is just like, okay. I guess I'm going. So funny. And then our dear detectives arrive in Canada.

Speaker: So cute. I do love that. there was like this little back and forth like, thanks letting me use your miles. Well, like, not going to let you go unless you brought me if you were use my miles.

Speaker: She, but I love that she doesn't say it like that. She's like, it's sweet of you to bring me. And he's like, yeah I had to or you wouldn't let me use your miles. Yeah. Still, it was really thoughtful. Yeah. Right.

Speaker: then the one thing that I really pulled from this scene is Sean calls her and she picks up the phone. She's like, hi, Sean. Oh my God. So cute. Jewels. I know. I was like, oh, Jewels.

Speaker: Still all doughy eyed. Yeah. She's in a tough spot. ah Yeah. I, I know. I also loved Lassie being like, I got to get my kind my hands on O'Hara. I have enemies everywhere.

Speaker: like yeah so You go find them down at the convenience store. Yeah. 7mm Luger. The idea he has of himself in his mind. andos Yeah.

Speaker: yeah And I love it's like because that's kind of a you know very quick line and it's not directly having anything to do with Despro or anything. right it really They really build in this idea of like what Lassie thinks of this relationship and of himself. crossing borders and stuff and and it's just the perfect payoff at the end and Desiree's like who are you what is happening yeah okay oh it's so funny and oh they actually they meet them at the first crime scene because the first theft has already happened and they get there and first of all we see Sean in the background doing some ridiculous movements

Speaker: So good. The way he just keeps doing that through this whole exchange and we just see him in the background. So funny. hey And this is all happening as Macintosh is looking at Lassie and Lassie is looking in towards Sean. yeah And Macintosh is like well, going to have to take it up with head detective Spencer. yeah Everybody has to be clear. detective Spencer.

Speaker: so Macintosh points to Juliet and Sean's like, and points to Lassie and he's like, yeah yeah his big thumbs up smile for jules i also love uh goodwin macintosh versus oh you work for mr spencer and jules like her little checkle is so funny oh yeah this whole this i really missed seeing sean and his element for our little hiatus Yeah, I know. i forgot to mention that at the beginning. Yeah, like it it has been oh for eight months since we watched the Psych episode, if not more. And I was just like and the biggest smile on my face. It was such a joy. it was. It was so much fun. I was really tempted after watching to text you and be like, I forgot how much fun this was. It's literally so much fun. So much fun.

Speaker: And to the silliness, all of it, the crime ions. Yes. Overcirculating here here. And speaking of Sean, like in this element, this is a fun place to start where he has this whole department in the palm his hands. He's like owning the room. He's taking up all this space. And then it comes crashing down and he is like playing catch up the rest of the episode. Like it's a really fun structure, I guess.

Speaker: Yeah. it It's very fun. Well, and it's interesting too because like we're kind of playing with two, two different we are, we're playing with two very different dynamics here. if Sean has actually seen Despero, has kind of started to figure out like his ways. He's caught up to him at the first crime scene, but everybody else thinks that like he's a dunderhead who doesn't really know what he's doing. question Yeah.

Speaker: And that's kind of fun to to play with them constantly being like, Sean messed up again and again. but Sean also being like, nope, I'm getting closer. Like I am. Yeah. know yeah Which is kind of cool. Yeah. And that is like, that's true. Like, i feel like we have seen this sort of before, but I can't recall where. Maybe the dinosaur?

Speaker: Like, Sean, it doesn't really bother him. Yeah. That he is looking like an idiot. and Yeah. Totally. Or it maybe it bothers him like in the moment a bit, but then it's like, more importantly, he is getting closer, as you said. like He knows he is onto this. Right. And really the only challenge is that he doesn't have people to back him up. like When he tells them, it's sort of like a boy who cried wolf kind of thing where right when he needs them, they can't be there because they don't believe him anymore. Mm-hmm.

Speaker: And he also has you know the drawbacks of being a fake psychic. Like he is literally seeing this guy and having conversations with him. But he can't.

Speaker: say that right right so yeah has to like you make it fantastical in some way so they so at this first crime scene mr stockwell first name randall has had a 3.5 million dollar necklace stolen And we get our first little tip off that something else isn't quite right when Sean points out that there was also a painting stolen, but Mr. Stockwell says no, he actually sold that painting two weeks ago.

Speaker: So not quite right. We find out that no alarms were tripped, there were no prints left anywhere, and a blonde filtered cigarette, which is Despero's calling card callinging card that his his cigarette was left burning so we know it must be Despero these are his telltale signs yeah so so this is all happening and it's interesting it's fun that like Lassie gets to come in and start to really kind of be the expert because Sean is pretending to be the Despero expert but Lassie is really the one who knows everything so he is the one who points out these things no alarms were tripped there were no prints and a blonde filtered cigarette was left and as left We do have the fun moment where Sean says he always steals more than one thing. And Lassie's like, he got that from my notes. Yeah, he got that directly from my notes. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker: Which, again, you know, we talked about in the beginning, it doesn't really come up until the very end. But Lassie was like the biggest Sean skeptic. Didn't believe him, doesn't believe in psychics, and yet has kind of...

Speaker: you know, allowed him to do the stuff that he's going to do. So it's interesting that at this point he wasn't like, see, he's fake. Like, see, he's making it up. When in reality, he knows he pulled it directly from his notes. That's true.

Speaker: i wonder if he even like thinks of it like that. um Like, I, cause I don't know. do you feel like Lassie is trying to prove Sean is a fake?

Speaker: I think in the beginning, yes. Hmm. I think it might be a little harder now because they're kind of friendly. Yeah. And I feel like he's also so familiar with the fact that Sean is just chaos incarnate. Yeah. yeah so It's like anything he says I don't know. It's like, where would he even begin? Well, right. And I guess Sean could, being that he, he is a made up psychic of his own making, like he could theoretically just be like, I divined that.

Speaker: Yes. My vision showed me. Right. Exactly. So maybe it's just like another, you know, point of contention maybe for Lassie, like in the back of his head, but he's not, he's kind of done arguing that Sean is fake because it's not going to get him anywhere.

Speaker: Yeah. And he's seen Sean do some miraculous things. So, like, where where does that leave him? It's true. So, as all of this is going down, Sean kind of, like, kind of wanders off, doesn't he? Oh, wait. kind of look We missed when they first walk in. Sean says, hi Jules. You look normal and stuff. oh my gosh. Yeah.

Speaker: I... He is struggling, I was going say, like, I... I'm so conflicted by this episode because i get that like Sean is conflicted with Jules and Abigail, but I'm also like, cut of the fuck out, Sean. You're with Abigail. being slightly flirty with Jules. I know. i think part of the challenge is, like i think he is very committed to Abigail, but part of the friendship that he has with Jules is

Speaker: involves flirtation yeah that's fair like that is just part of the dynamic that they have and so i think he doesn't know how to talk to her without that that's a good point i didn't think but like how he's supposed to talk to her right because they were never together they were like this was right they have always been platonic but there was always an element of flirting to that right but now right now that really shouldn't be But he's so used to it that he's like halfway through it. And then he's like, and stuff.

Speaker: Yeah. And he doesn't know, like, he doesn't know how to be. Right. Around her in any other way. Yeah. Yeah. Because like, if you, and also I think because they have acknowledged that they have feelings for each other. um That also makes it weird. Because it's like.

Speaker: it wouldn't be weird to be like, hey, Lassie, you look nice. right Maybe you a little bit because of their dynamic being very adversarial. But in theory, it wouldn't be weird to say like, hey, friend, you look nice. But because they can they have acknowledged they have romantic feelings for each other, they're choosing not to act on it. It's like, what kind of friends are we? And what can I say to you? And still,

Speaker: and and still be like loyal to the person I am with right now so yeah I didn't and that's a really good point I didn't I guess I didn't think about the fact that like yeah their entire relationship is really built off of them kind of Sean flirting with her and then her being like meh and then him still flirting and making a joke and then being like Sean and Sean is a flirt kind of with everybody yes And so like on the one hand, Abigail may be totally comfortable with that. But I think part of it too is the fact that they have acknowledged that both of them have feelings. And that makes the flirting also a little bit like.

Speaker: Right. When does it cross the line? As Pierre has said. All right, so we've got our first crime scene.

Speaker: Sean is kind of looking around just seeing if there's any more clues. And and as he's doing this, he notices that a plant is bobbing. plant is slightly moving.

Speaker: And he goes and he, I guess, notices that the window is kind of cracked. I guess that's what it is. And there's like a breeze coming in. Mm-hmm. And as he looks out the window, he turns up towards the roof, and there there is a leg going over the top of the building onto the roof. Of course, Despero has scaled the side of the building, which I would love to know what kind of gear he needed for that. i was like, this is i know terrifying. was like, you know, just like windows.

Speaker: Yeah. Oh, my gosh. I know. And that, too, like he jumps off the building. He eventually jumps off the building and it doesn't look like he has like flying suit or like a, he just kind of looks like he's in a onesie.

Speaker: I'm like, what? He's terrifying. Yeah. And when Gus says he was in a flying suit and Sean's like, we don't know that. We don't know that. Okay. I guess.

Speaker: Yeah. Maybe it was a like disguised one. ah Yeah, that could be. He could have like a parachute in the back and like it open or who knows. So they see this and Sean and Gus are of course like, to the roof! Like, he's up there. We're going find him. I'm psychically divining. We must go to the roof And we get up there and there he is. But the only people who manage to get up there quickly enough are Sean and Gus. So Sean and Gus. And Lassie is, when they say like, let's go to the roof, Lassie is like, just stay here.

Speaker: Yeah. You know, you don't know. i know this guy and his antics. And all I have written down here is two left knees.

Speaker: Oh my gosh. I don't know. I don't know. Oh, yeah. That's funny because I think I remember thinking I need to write that down and then I didn't write that down. Let me see what else I have around there. Two left knees. Two um oh I also have my striking his striking snow partner which I mean nothing salacious by I know fierce but gunless American detective and striking snow bunny partner

Speaker: i guess it's like they're it's right before Despero jumps off the roof so they must be like It's like a reason why Gus can't do something, but I can't remember.

Speaker: oh are they i was to say, or like go over and get him, like get close to the side or or something like that. I can't, I have two left knees. Oh, maybe it was the skiing.

Speaker: Was it about how they did skiing? Oh, they didn't catch him in the skiing because he's got two left knees. We're like, totally. inventing new stories here, but... Who knows?

Speaker: The big important part is Despero then jumps off the roof. Yes. Not from a handstand. Not from a handstand, and of course before the rest of anybody else gets up there. So none of the actual police force has seen Despero be on the roof or jump off the roof, and when they get there, no one believes the boys.

Speaker: Yeah. It is funny that, like, and this is an example of when You know, Sean's not even saying, like, I divined that he was here. He's saying we saw him. He was up there. Yeah.

Speaker: And they still don't believe him. Which is so interesting. Yeah. Like, from a a police officer standpoint, like, he was here. Like, i saw him. And I have a witness who is Gus. wait this Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: yeah I don't know. why they turn on Sean so quickly, I guess. They really do. Maybe it's like Lassie and Jules. was going to say, maybe they said something to them while they were still downstairs and Sean and Bess were up on the roof. And just the energy Lassie brings of this guy is ridiculous. Yes.

Speaker: And maybe they said like he is not their boss. Although that does come back later. think McIntosh says your boss is good at the end. ah Yeah.

Speaker: They like still kind of believe him, kind of don't maybe. Yeah, maybe the tide is just kind of turning a little bit. There were a couple moments in the apartment where seans started to to look a little shaky, like yes pointing out the painting that was sold and not stolen.

Speaker: Was there another thing? i don't know, but it did feel like... Sorry, the baby's awake now. She's very excited to be about. um But it did feel like they were trackpped They were kind of starting that before they even got to the roof. And so maybe it was like, okay, now this guy Right.

Speaker: yeah yeah. Just has no idea what's going on. And yeah, so then they're like, okay, well, we we actually saw someone, someone else saw someone go out at the service entrance, which I don't know why you would believe that account and not believe Sean's account. But I guess.

Speaker: guess it just seems unlikely too. Like yeah they just can't believe that he would have jumped off the roof. That's fair. It's like, have you never seen a spy movie? don't know. That's not that weird. He is international art thief. Like, come on.

Speaker: Yeah, he's an international man of mystery. Is that what you said? Yes. Yes. Yeah, it's very, um I think they even make reference to It's very Tom's Crown Affair. Like, you know, secretive spy, steal stuff, all that, you know, it is definitely. i don't know what that is.

Speaker: Tom's Crown Affair. a movie. It's an art theft movie. Very good. Highly recommend. Sounds fun. Yeah. They make a lot of references in this episode, as they always do. But there were quite a few where I was not super familiar with them. Yes.

Speaker: More homework. perhaps. Indeed. Indeed. So Dustbro is off in the distance. The police are trying to scour and figure out where he is and the boys decide that they're going to go their very romantic dinner reservation, which takes months in advance to schedule because it is so exclusive and fancy and Gus is confused as to how he got this when he invited Gus on the trip just on Friday. Yeah.

Speaker: And Jean's pretty much like, don't think too much about it. And then there they see in the distance, Pierre Desperaux watching them. And he waves them over. and i love did they see this yeah i love that the two of them are just like, we shouldn't go over there.

Speaker: And then just walk straight over. Don't think about it. Yeah. just of Of course. We shouldn't. We shouldn't, but we will. Because, yeah, we totally should.

Speaker: And I love that Sean was like... and don't think I wrote it down, but it was so funny. He is like, we found you. Yes!

Speaker: So we win. So we win.

Speaker: Another... ah Brilliant delivery. So good. And then he, I love how the Nespro is like, don't, like with the shenanigans, like I found you, so just sit down.

Speaker: Like sit down, here we are. I'm going to tell you what's happening. Okay. And then he literally lays out what's going to happen over the the rest of the episode.

Speaker: Like we said before, he's going to steal a manet. He's going to make him look foolish. And he's going to treat himself like a king. To which Sean then writes down that he's going to have some of that.

Speaker: I was like, Sean, what are you thinking? He just has no no sense of consequences sometimes. ah He's going to get some maple candy, one of those nice walking sticks, and he's going to catch an art thief. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. Maybe not maybe not you But you're at the top of the list. right

Speaker: And then, oh so sad. they've got They've got tricked by the flaming Alaska bit again. Despero is gone. He's in the wind. Classic bit.

Speaker: I said that. I'm like, when has this happened before? You're talking to an international art thief and then some flaming Alaska went by and all of a sudden... Okay. I do i also did love that of course Gus called exactly what was going to happen next.

Speaker: Just like, what are we going go the police and pretend to divine that we got all this information. And Sean's like, Gus, that's cheap. that's I would never do that. To which of course, it's as if he wrote it on a piece of paper and put it in my hand.

Speaker: It's always interesting to me when Sean does that kind of thing, because it's like, he is creating, he creates witnesses to his fraud.

Speaker: Ah, yes. And that he is telling a bunch of people that he divined this thing. And at any point Despero could, you know, down the line say that he had that conversation with them.

Speaker: That's very true. i guess it's a suspension of disbelief thing. Because they're also in like a very public restaurant and stuff. But it's always interesting to me when that happens yeah when i wonder wonder too like how much of that despro would want to admit to like this random guy theoretically off the street managed to find my hotel room sneak into said hotel room

Speaker: call me on my bullshit. know Catch me on the top of her. Like, I wonder if that would almost like in, in the criminal underworld, if that would like take away some of the gravitas of Despero. So is it almost like a mutually, just mutually assured destruction kind of thing? Like, you don't mention it. Well, that's definitely how they use it with that one with the Batman figurine.

Speaker: Oh yeah. Where Sean witnesses,

Speaker: not the murder but he he witnesses i think basically the hiding of the body body yeah um and the guy is with him in that room and they have that moment at the end where it's like he could

Speaker: but prove sean wrong but then he would have to confess to the murder right basically um which is fine um but yeah i don't know i guess with despero like i guess it's hard to know too because like we don't really know what despero's whole thing is anyway or where his allegiances lie or anything like that who he is what what's going on um um but don't know it's just interesting mm-hmm

Speaker: So the being that Sean is so emphatic about Amane being stolen, they take this vision quite seriously and they look at... Macintosh actually has a binder full of all the things that Despero might want to steal.

Speaker: So Macintosh goes and looks at that, can't seem to find anything that has information about Amane on it, but we find out I guess it's that same night at a man's yacht, William Charles Pulver's yacht, that Jules actually did some extra digging and found out that this yacht came in today and had a man name it. Macintosh refers to as the girl detective.

Speaker: The girl, yeah.

Speaker: I guess that's better than the snow bunny partner, striking snow bunny partner, but. Poor Jules. I know, poor Jules. I love, I, is this the episode, I can't remember, where she said, i grew up in a subtropical climate. Yes. hi I pull that line all the time. Yeah.

Speaker: what I'm cold I grew up in a subtropical corner it's in this scene too when she's okay because she's in her well Sean is struggling again and he's like what are you wearing you look like somebody in Dr. Zhivago yeah yeah yeah yes and then she's kind of defensive and he's like why don't it's not I don't know what he says but something about like it not being an insult and he's like so awkward yes I think it's nice. but And she's like, we can still talk.

Speaker: i I know. We can still work. We can be friends. I know. We have we can be normal. Oh, I also love this little huddle. This little huddle that they have outside of the yacht.

Speaker: It is... Lassie, Jules, Gus, Sean, Macintosh. And there is like so much going on this little huddle. Lassie's going through like weapons withdrawal. Like he is like gosh going crazy. Gus has to pee because he does. Sean and Jules are having their awkward interaction. Macintosh is like seeing shadows.

Speaker: So much going on Everyone's having their own little adventure. There is some some great Lassie and Gus dynamics here because there's a couple, like Lassie, like you said, is whining about not having a weapon, I think. yeah And Gus is like, we're waiting for a single man to enter an empty boat.

Speaker: and And he's like surrounded by cops on all sides. Like, calm down. He's one. And then... ah when they see a man on the dock Lassie's like he's definitely packing heat and Gus is like that makes one of you like he is

Speaker: he's so sassy he's really giving it to Lassie so funny done with and his shenanigans Yeah, I love ah Macintosh. It's like, there's a man, and there's a shadow. There's a man and a shadow on the dock.

Speaker: He's like frantic. And Sean is like, it's not like, relax. It's not him. What do they say? What is, do they say? Do not engage or something? do not Do not approach, maybe? Do not approach. And then Sean's like, they're approaching, they're approaching.

Speaker: Funny. And of course it's not Despero. And we also see as we go and apprehend this man and confirm that it's not Despero that the painting inside of the yacht has been removed and changed and it is now a clown man face painting. They're too late.

Speaker: Yes, too late. um Which, this is also interesting, I guess, like did they just not notice Did they not notice on the way down to their positions that, that because they were just standing on like, that what would you even call that? i notice of the same thing On the slope? Yeah. they They were like on the slope going down to the dock when they noticed that the painting was different.

Speaker: So did they just not happen to notice it on their way to their stealthy positions? Did the boat move? I'm reading into it too much. It must not have visible for whatever reason. think it just wasn't.

Speaker: Because I'm like, he we we now know, of course, that it was never there when they got there. um But they didn't know that. So now they're like, ah dun, dun, dun. How did he get it?

Speaker: And that really doesn't make Sean look foolish either because he was right. That is what Deskro stole. Right. that's true yeah they don't give sean a lot of grace in this episode and i'm not really sure they're just done with i think maybe it's just like lassie wants to be the one who catches him so he's like downplaying sean a lot so that he can be the one i don't know i mean i get uh i can't think of the word i want but but the display at the end at the

Speaker: gallery. I could see that being crossing the line of it, but that's like the last thing he does. Right. Yeah. And, uh, yeah, yeah, I guess that's a good question. What quote unquote, when is he making him look foolish?

Speaker: Like what is the foolishness? Well, I think he still makes, I guess them all look foolish because because they've been sitting on this boat and he was there and gone.

Speaker: for all they know. Right. And then we go on the romantic carriage ride. Yes. Which...

Speaker: This whole episode, there's just so many parts of it that just crack me up. Like, Gus confused about now everything, like why everything is romantic. questioning his entire life. I know, he's like like being gaslit here. Yes, I mean, he he kind of is. He looks scared when he's talking about the rose petals, which is in the previous scene when they're waiting at the boat. He's like...

Speaker: Why would they do that? Oh, right. That's why he didn't pee because there was the rose petals. Yeah. He didn't pee. Yeah. Then he has to pee now when he's on the, on the dock. Yes, why would they do that? and And then it's not until the guy driving the horses is like, just let me know when you want me to go to the kissing point.

Speaker: Yeah. That Gus is like, oh, got it. This was for Abigail. This is a really funny excursion, though, because they are like in the woods.

Speaker: In the middle of nowhere. Yeah. middle tonight. I mean, really far. Like, we see the city from where they are later when Sean is walking home, and it's like, they are outside. that's too, like, for Gus to be like, walk the rest of the way home. Where are you? There must be a village close by or something, but it is pretty funny that, like, it is dark out there. And I also wonder, what time is it that they're doing this? Because it's summer, right? Yeah.

Speaker: Because i that before they get to Canada, i think Vic maybe because they're in that scene with Vic and Lassie. But somebody says, where are you going to go skiing? It's the middle of ah June or July or something like that. Yeah. We also talked about the premieres are usually a summer premiere.

Speaker: Yeah. So it makes sense. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I think when I was looking before at the how many months? since last you did a bad bad thing i think i think it said it was august so yeah it's like summer so the days would be long right so it's got to be like yeah late at night like 11 o'clock it's like 11 o'clock at night in the woods surrounded by raccoons like too much it's like an interesting romantic getaway sort of thing yeah

Speaker: Yes. I wonder too, like, was there going to be food there? Like, what was this more than just a carriage ride or was it literally just oh like Abigail loves horses? Hmm.

Speaker: I took a carriage ride. We may never know. there was food, the raccoons might come. Oh, that's true. Maybe that's why was so concerned about the raccoons. Don't bring food because of the raccoons. And so he's like, oh. The raccoons are vicious. There are raccoons everywhere. It's so funny.

Speaker: I love his little raccoon bit. I can't. Yeah, when he's walking alone he's like talking to them. Famous raccoons. Let's make a list. Nico. Volgante.

Speaker: Rocky raccoon. Does Rocky raccoon count? And then she's talking about like, okay, I go catch Dorothy, which you probably don't care about, but maybe one or two of you more than the others.

Speaker: So preposterous. They love it.

Speaker: this is also when we find out that they were supposed he was supposed to go with Abigail like it was an actual planned trip with Abigail but at the last minute the dates for her teachers convention changed so yeah being that all of this was like non-refundable he wanted to still make sure that he was going to get some money out of it confirmed Abigail was supposed to be there yes um oh and yes so and as he's walking out of this of the woods And he sees the skyline in the great distance.

Speaker: It's pretty far away. He sees the skyline out there and he sees the tower in town and decides that that's where Despro is staying because he sort of glanced that way when he said he's going to his room. I feel like I always, looking back on this episode, invent that like when he says he's going to his room and he jumps,

Speaker: but he's staying in that building that they're in. I always think that too. Cause I'm like, Oh, maybe he jumped and like attached to the building. Yeah. Like ended up in his room, but right that's, it's like my brain fills that in, but that's not it.

Speaker: It's the Mandela effect. Yeah. sick Yeah. but it's in that one I don't, I mean, I don't know Despero would,

Speaker: I mean, he barely glances at that thing. I don't... It's a funny leap for Sean. Oh, definitely. Yeah, I wonder if it's one of those, like, he's interpreting it as, like, a subconscious thing that Despero did. Like, um... You know, I'm thinking, like, do you remember the Irene Adler shortlock Sherlock episode?

Speaker: When he... When he, um... sets off the smoke detector and then she looks at the spot where the safe is. Like, I wonder if it's kind of like that, like, he doesn't mean to, he's not like intentionally looking at his room, but like, because he's mentioning his room, he glances that in that direction. And then Sean can kind of take that lead. I also wonder if this is not the first hotel that Sean went to. Or was that going to be the first hotel?

Speaker: its so It's a big city at sea and there's a lot of stuff in that direction. Right, why that hotel? thing right I guess it's the tallest thing.

Speaker: That could be. yeah Maybe Desperate is just like grand. So yeah, so that's where Sean's headed. Yeah, cute he gets there and I am kind of obsessed with this receptionist. Like I kind of had to pause and be like, I wish we got more time with him. Just because this guy like clocks Sean pretty quick.

Speaker: Like, Sean walks up to him and is like, you know, doing his whole usual shtick of like, hey, I forgot my room key. Can you make me a new one? And he asked for his name and Sean is giving way too many names. Yeah, he's very friendly at first.

Speaker: Yeah, but then he's starting to be like, you are totally lying to me. I'm not like, I'm not going to help you, sir. I don't know shenanigans. It's honestly interesting that he would... I don't know. I would expect you would need to show an ID id or perhaps credit card. It is hard because I don't know how it works in these situations where you reserve the room under a different name because you're like an artist or a famous person.

Speaker: I didn't even realize that that. Do people actually do that? Like, how does one manage that? I don't know. And maybe it's like something like... from, you know, yesteryear sort of thing. I'm thinking of Notting Hill. I think she reserves her hotel rooms after characters from the stuff.

Speaker: But I feel like you probably couldn't get away with that now. Right? I mean, i I could see, like, if I were, say, I were a famous person and I had, like, my...

Speaker: manager reserve the room that's so it's not my name like then that makes sense but like making it an artist how are you proving yeah anything and i guess it's a question of do they care but in this situation where someone's trying to break in right i would hope they are you know little more secure than that and that's the other thing too like i'm shocked that this man actually gave sean a key card after this whole thing Yeah. After two tries and Sean does do a good job ish. ish showing it

Speaker: But four yeah but yeah part of Sean, his effectiveness is that he's just so confident. Yes. Very. But I do love the bit about his assistant with the room and And she has Carvo.

Speaker: She's a, isn't that a dog's disease? And I love how he doesn't, he doesn't try to like, say, oh, it should also be people or anything. No, she's a golden retriever.

Speaker: She has three big buttons. yeah What a visual. Three big buttons. So silly. I know, Bertrand's just like, all right, just go. Just leave me alone. Then we go up to Despero's room.

Speaker: While he's on the phone with Gus, of course, because Gus isn't here, but Gus needs to be involved in what is happening. Yes, true. um So Gus is on the phone and Sean is going through essentially like how badass he is, like how excited he is about the fact that he found the room and he's going to sit here and he's going turn the light off. And when Desbro walks and he's going to click the light on. it's gonna be like Miller's Crossing. It's going so great. And they're going to Sundays.

Speaker: Yeah. It's going to be amazing. And then he sits down in the chair and just broke click, click ah on the light from the chair i across from the chair that Sean is sitting on. And Sean is like terrified. know.

Speaker: And I love how Sean grabs the pillow and like, That was so, so, so good. But I love to that. He grabs the pillow, like, has to feel, like, comfortable and safe.

Speaker: And then Desperate starts walking around packing. He grabs his shoes and Sean's like, oh my god, he's gonna kill me with the pillow. And... And then he's like, oh, a gentleman of leisure never packs his weapons next to his socks. It's in coos.

Speaker: And then he goes and gets his actual weapon, and Sean is not concerned at all. Doesn't grasp the pillow. I know, true. Anyway, I was like, Sean said, what's happening? Maybe just scared into stillness.

Speaker: Yes. That could be. That could be. And, um, yes. Despro starts his smokescreen of continued packing, but...

Speaker: Darn him, he forgot to put away that laundry receipt, which isn't due until Tuesday. Sean notices this and tucks it away for a period of time.

Speaker: and I did love also the other thing i thought was really funny. It was when they were walking out of the room and um Sean turns to him and he's just like, what day is it again?

Speaker: Yeah. Saturday. that's what i thought. So good. Yeah, so good. It's like Sean finally, like, feels, it feels like he has the upper hand finally. Yes. Yeah. He's figuring He's got something him. Yeah.

Speaker: Exactly. So then, what happens then? Oh. Oh, then he tries to chase down. Yes. Blasting jewels. Right, and and this is when he's like, I actually talked to him. And they're like, you you spoke with him?

Speaker: In a vision. He was packing. but And they were like, okay, great. so Because they're trying to, they said that there is a small plane leaving from an airfield in northern Washington. Right.

Speaker: Under one of his aliases. right so they want to go check that out but sean's like don't do that he's not leaving yet yeah and they're like how do you know he's not leaving yet because he was packing if he was packing wouldn't he be leaving and like but he was packing for my benefit so i would think he was leaving it is quite uh some mental gymnastics there yes and then I have down here used me as a smoke screen but is it is it that he cause he seems really like darn like he used me smoke screen like he's like really upset um but does he mean that like he thinks that Despero thinks that he knows that he's not actually packing or ae you know what I mean? yeah

Speaker: I think that this is kind of a mind bender. I think that he thinks that Despero thinks that Sean

Speaker: thinks that he's leaving.

Speaker: He thinks that Despero thinks that Sean thinks that Despero is leaving. Okay. Yeah. so Basically. And I think he thinks Despero is using Sean thinking that he is leaving to get the police to go to the plane. So that he can steal something else.

Speaker: Yeah. To accentuate that getaway plan. Because it seems like Lassie and Jules already know about that without Sean and his packing vision. Right. Right. But him having mentioned that to them, they're like, okay, great. So he's leaving. Right. So we are going that way.

Speaker: Okay. That makes sense. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. That that makes sense. So Sean's like, he, he was using me. He was using me in his plan and that's why he's.

Speaker: and Yeah. And I guess maybe Sean is offended that. that despero even made him say that to them so that now they think like that he is leaving right because it is he's like put out but he knows that despero was doing that for show so it's like it's not the fact that he was doing it for show right that is offensive to him but the fact that I see. The fact that he was going to go to the police and confirm suspicions yeah is what he's like, oh, he's trying to play me for a fool. Like, that's kind of what's happening. think so, yeah. He's using me to, like, help them go the wrong direction, I guess. Right.

Speaker: Okay, I could buy that. That makes sense. you

Speaker: So, Sean, so, Jules and Lassie are convinced. Sean's not convinced, obviously. So he goes to Macintosh to again look at the book, which this book has been very helpful.

Speaker: I love the detail of Macintosh just making a full plate of waffles. Oh, yeah. feels like a Canada joke. Maybe. Is there, are there maple syrup on the wall? Yeah. Okay. That makes sense. Multiple maple syrup jokes then this episode. Yes. Um,

Speaker: Yeah, and and Sean, of course, just takes them from him and is like, I am going to take that. it takes And as they look through the book, it seems almost like Sean's not 100% certain what is going to be taken, but as very often happens with Sean, like, he'll know it when he sees it kind of a thing. Yeah, for sure. So he's he's flipping through, and as he's flipping, he then sees this very fancy-looking crown, which would play into...

Speaker: the three things that he was told he was going to do steal the manet make him look foolish and treat himself like a king so crown king duh and they decide therefore that they are going to go to the gallery which has a preposterous name bush bushland moat gallery yeah and i don't even know if i spelt it right And um the crown is on display, but they are going to kind of put like a ah police, you know, they're going do like a undercover op and see if they can catch Despero. Unsanctioned. Unsanctioned. That is important.

Speaker: Very unsanctioned. Poor Macintosh. Well, Macintosh mentions that he's familiar with the gallery. Correct. Right, right, right. Yeah, so he kind of knows like what they're going to be up against, so to say. And can disarm it.

Speaker: Right, apparently. which i was like that lock him into the fact they talk him into disarming the security system. i or guy you know, yes, bad choice on Macintosh's part. Yeah, I guess that's on him.

Speaker: Yeah, but also, like, Sean and Gus, they know, well, not yet, but they will have a history of, like, losing people their jobs. That's true. i do wonder if when all is said and done, Macintosh gets to come back. Do we ever see Macintosh again? feel like we do see him again. i don't know why I feel that, but yes, I feel like we do see him again. We must go back to Canada for something. Well, I guess we do when Despro escapes.

Speaker: Oh, I think you're right. I think that's when we see Macintosh again. Okay, so hopefully he lands on his feet. Yes, I feel like he does tell us ah something about what happened after this.

Speaker: Yeah, he must. So Sean and Gus are outside the gallery. They are essentially on a stakeout where they are waiting for the gallery to close so that they know everyone's out of the building.

Speaker: And then they can see if anyone goes into the building to take the crown. So they watch the gallery owner, gallery manager, I don't really recall, walk out of the building and leave for the day. this So the last person in the building leaves.

Speaker: And this is when the op officially starts. They go into the building and they are trying to get us close to the case with the crown in it as possible and sean is describing all of this to gus because of course up until this point gus hasn't really been with him he's been a little bit peeved at sean or remember paul and all of that um so gus is explaining that you know mackintosh made all of this happen don't worry they get inside though and there is a laser field

Speaker: of those, you know, red lasers. Classic. Classic, yeah. And I love this whole bit was so funny. so funny So preposterous. um Sean's going to guide Gus through the lasers. He's more nimble, so he has to be the one to do it.

Speaker: Sean's shouting out ridiculous things, like right-hand green, you know, turn 30 degrees in the opposite direction, like, just...

Speaker: but yeah he says right hand green gus goes that's twister and sean goes how come we don't play that anymore some really funny things but gu gus seems to be doing a pretty good job like he's getting amazing yeah no big issues gets the other side gus is winded he is like proud of himself man and sean starts clapping and walks right through the laser field and they flicker off So funny. But I guess the fact that like he walked through them and they flickered off, does that mean that Gus didn't actually hit a laser?

Speaker: Like that Gus actually did a good job? I don't know. I kind of feel like they shouldn't have flickered off because that does make it seem like they were on and then were not on. But Sean does, he does walk through the lasers before they s flicker off.

Speaker: Right. So I get, right. So I guess my question is like, did walking through them, I don't know how that would work, but it makes me think like, oh, he hit a laser and then because he a laser. Oh, that made it turn off? Correct, correct.

Speaker: I don't know why that would work like that or if McIntosh just turned them off at that time. I don't know.

Speaker: Yeah, because that's what it seems like maybe because McIntosh, they call him from outside and ask him you know if they're ready and he says almost so it does kind of seem like he's in the process of hurting everything off right but if he hadn't gotten to that yet sean would would have been enlightener because he doesn't walk through live lasers well and i guess that's the question too do the lasers do the lasers hurt you or do they like trip an alarm Very true. I've never understood that about the lasers.

Speaker: Did they maybe, maybe that's what happened. Maybe the lasers weren't off yet. The lasers weren't off until they turned off and Gus and or Sean hit one of the lasers and then that triggered all the guys with the guns to come in.

Speaker: Before they just didn't get heard an alarm. Correct. But they just didn't get there until then. Because there's no way they got there that fast. The alarm was off for like three seconds. and Yeah, that could so maybe yeah Sure, I think I'd buy that.

Speaker: um There you go. Okay. So we get past the lasers. Now we at least know maybe Gus could do that in the future. I don't think he ever has to use that merit badge, but he has it. Yeah, true.

Speaker: And... um You know, Sean is like, that was the hard part. Here we go. Like, now the crown is inside the case in this display case. All we got to do is make sure that it's there. So then we know Despero didn't get it. And we're, like, home free. And then Sean touches the display case. Like, they don't even open it. Like, it just touches it. And the alarm goes off.

Speaker: And then we got a bunch of cops with guns there. But I do love this to know that. Yeah. Yeah. Well, was just going to that. the biggest show of force we have seen by law enforcement, like that was a serious SWAT action.

Speaker: And with like machine guns, like they were like like big weapons and multiple of them. And yeah, I guess like, it it is it maybe because of like the insurance value? Like are these not police officers, but maybe they're like a security team the building? Oh, private interesting. Right.

Speaker: I don't know. But yeah, there it's all, I mean, it's pretty scary. Like Gus has his arms up. Sean can't see them. They're behind him. Sean refuses to look because he doesn't believe they're there.

Speaker: Which, I mean, fair enough. It was very fast. we We hear a cock of the weapon and that's when Sean's like, oh. And then it zooms out and there's, yeah, like six men in black with very large guns pointed right at Sean and Gus.

Speaker: Yes. Also, I want to backtrack just a little bit because this plan, we have talked about National Treasure in the context of this show before, and this was a very National Treasure plan.

Speaker: Yes, a very National Treasure plan. We needed the National Treasure music. That's all we were missing. Yeah. Gus even says, like, you're going to take the ground or you're going to steal the ground.

Speaker: And Sean's like, I best move the ground or something like that. You're stealing the Declaration of Independence.

Speaker: Yeah, museum. Got to get through all of like the security features. got to like well And steal just stealing something so that it doesn't get stolen. ah Yes, that's a great point, too.

Speaker: Very national treasure plan. Very national treasure, yes. so I'm actually surprised that they didn't reference that. That seems like a perfect moment for them to reference it. I know. I feel like it's like almost because there's the just a little like you're going to steal the crown, but but a true reference would be like if Sean was like, I'm going steal I'm going to steal the crown. Yes.

Speaker: And then... Oh, then we get arrested. Oh, yeah. Because, again, like Hailey said before, unsanctioned police operation. So no one but them knew about it. They broke into a gallery. And to top it all off, the crown wasn't in the display case. So it also seems like they stole the crown.

Speaker: So they have, yes, been arrested. And we get a Henry cameo. Again, of course. Yay. Love me Henry. a premier. Yes. I'll see him. Got to. to see everyone.

Speaker: Henry comes and posts Sean's bail and doesn't post that's his Yeah. I love he says, it was more than I expected. You owe me the difference plus the exchange rate. I think it's very cute that he is willing to pay what he expected. What he expects. Whatever that means. Because I'm like, what?

Speaker: Is he basing this off of like what bail is in Santa Barbara? It's just the idea that he is willing to bail Sean out. To a point. Doesn't need to get paid back. But the exchange rate and what he didn't expect.

Speaker: Yeah. yes And then he's going to take care Gus, but he's got to go to an ATM or so whatever he said. just thought it was so funny that he was like, I didn't know I had to bail out Gus or two. Like, where are his parents? And Gus is like, sean Sean used my call to vote for American Idol. what So early 2000s to call and to vote for American Idol.

Speaker: Yes. So good. And then, yeah. Doesn't he say, like, doesn't Gus have money? And he's saying his credit cards are full or something. And Sean's like, I'm i'm talking to him about that. talking to him about it. Yeah, don't worry. Yeah, and then Henry says he's, he's like, going to go to an and ATM.

Speaker: But if his fishing trip, he also has a fishing trip plan. And if that gets canceled, this whole trip will be worthless. Something like that. Salmon fishing. Classic Henry. Classic Henry. Oh, and i love at some point in this interaction, we get a callback to the flashback where Sean pretty much says like, he almost caught him, he was just too good.

Speaker: And Henry goes, too good? What did I raise you to do? Sean goes, it was literally the perfect crime. The perfect crime? There's no such thing as the perfect crime, Sean. Sean goes, it was close. Like, the only way it's close is if you make it look like the perfect crime.

Speaker: I'm ooh, yeah. perfect and we perfect Tasty little nugget. Because we find out in the end, of course, that's exactly what it is, right? He made it look like he was doing all these perfect crimes, but that does not, in fact, happen.

Speaker: McIntosh gets fired. Poor guy. And that's when we find out that the crown was actually missing. And this is kind of what tips Sean off to the fact that none of this was actually happening the way that they thought it was because they were positioned outside of the gallery the entire time. There was absolutely, so Sean says, no opportunity for him to get in and take the crown while they were there. The only way...

Speaker: is if, and this is when he's like, no, no, I'm like, whoa, I know what happened. um And he figures out that someone had to have walked out of the gallery with it, which of course would have been the gallery owner beforehand.

Speaker: And he learns that he never actually steals anything. Yeah. We then go to and another small plane. The only way is if it wasn't there to begin with.

Speaker: Ah, yes. It is fun. it Even though it's like disappointment to Sean, like that is pretty cool as far as correct. Yeah. And as far as like, we' we've talked about Sean loving like the puzzle and the truth of it all. Like this is a great puzzle for him.

Speaker: Like not something that he's really seen before that. Yeah. Nothing is actually being stolen. It's really just insurance fraud, but made to look like an actual art heist.

Speaker: Yeah. No.

Speaker: And then we go to another ah small boat on a marina, which I'm always like, is is this that? This can't have been that boat, because the boat that they were talking about beforehand, because Lassie and Jules would have already been there. So this, or not a small boat, sorry, small plane. um Right.

Speaker: Can't have been that small plane because Lassie and Jules would have already been there. So this must be a different small plane in a different marina that Sean and Gus somehow find.

Speaker: And get to before Despero does. In which our nutshelling ensues. and And Sean talks about his disappointment, essentially, in the fact that this was really uncool.

Speaker: in comparison to what Sean thought that Despero was, which was an international man of leisure and art thievery. okay Instead, it's just lame insurance fraud. yeah boring.

Speaker: Boring. And yeah, he thought he was a master criminal, but he wasn't so sad. I do think it's really funny that Sean put Gus inside the airplane. that's So funny.

Speaker: For all of this. And then tells him when he gets upset to hail down the stewardess and get some airplane peanuts. So like inside this twin cylinder plane. Yeah, but very Sean.

Speaker: And all of this happens before the the police get there, but then they get there and they arrest Despero and yeah one Despero says but I got away with it and Sean's like no didn't no no yes and then Lassie's like hey Despero remember me who are you which I'm sure was really quite a blow for Lassie oh but again he's a little bit delusional just a little when it comes to some of these things oh yeah

Speaker: And then that's when we get McIntosh being like, yeah Ross is good. We do not work for him. This feels like that sometimes.

Speaker: and i Yeah. Wait, there are a couple yes things that were funny that I forgot to mention. yeah Before they go to the marina... and they're Sean's figuring it out and they like start bouncing.

Speaker: Oh, so funny. i love And I love that like we've we've talked about again, how this is like a collective thing. like Sean starts bouncing and then Gus starts bouncing. like He's mimicking the bouncing. They gotta do it together. I'll figure it out.

Speaker: Yes. And then how Sean greets Despero. I wrote, well, he plays the man to cello, but Oh, so silly. Not well, but how many people do you know play the managello?

Speaker: And then, you're barely Remington Steele. Who does that make me? Laura Holt. Oh my gosh, so funny. And then, you think a guy like me wants to be Stephanie Zimbalist? Maybe.

Speaker: Maybe.

Speaker: I guess, like, what does Despero think of them? Because this is a running bit for us. Like, understand this. But all of a sudden, this man's just pulling characters and actors out of his butt.

Speaker: but Like, what is going... I would be like, are you okay? And then we have Sean and Jules' date. Oh, wait, the one thing that I want to mention before the date is as Despero is getting arrested, he gives us a hint to the next time that we're going to see him, which is I often fantasize of breaking out of prison.

Speaker: that da We'll see you then. Which again, like, you know, if we're really going to delve into the idea of Despero, it's like,

Speaker: Who is he? Is he really what we see at the end? If he is really who we see at the end, of course he would know that he'd be able to break out of break out of prison. I'm doing air quotes here. ah Yeah. But he does break out, doesn't he?

Speaker: Yes. Like he breaks out. Yes. But is there like, and we'll talk about it when we get there. I always wonder, like, is there an intentional oversight given to Despero because of what we eventually find I think to the last Despero. We'll have to watch the other two.

Speaker: Oh, yeah. We'll have to do mini. Watch them as like a trilogy. Yes, I think that's smart. Try to really get a handle on him. Yeah. I think that's a good idea or else it's going to be a little flighty ah figuring him out. butnado Is there three or four?

Speaker: I think there's three. Which one is that? Despero Psych. Oh, four. You're right. all right extra The one that we just watched.

Speaker: Then one in season five when he breaks out. Then Indiana Sean in the Temple of the Kind of Crazy Rusty Old Dagger. Which...

Speaker: Oh, yeah. Okay. Yes, this is the one where he blows up. And then... Right. Something Smoking Barrels and Burton Guster's Goblet a Fire in London.

Speaker: Well, four. So we'll have to watch... I don't know what you would call four.

Speaker: four-gy. Quir-la-gy. Quir-la-gy. Quir-la-gy. Quir-la-gy or fun. We'll have to watch the quir-la-gy. Okay. And that's perfect because the last one is quill magic.

Speaker: There we go. Quillagey. um Yeah, because then we can kind of get the timeline right, you know? that Yeah, and and maybe like if we have all of Deskro's, all his little details in our heads, it'll be easier to come up with an idea of who he is. analyze him. Yeah, that's a good idea.

Speaker: All right. We'll get there eventually. And then the date. Which we talked a bit about already, but... I think from the date, the, so again, a couple of interesting things.

Speaker: I think it's fair that Jules is like, I refuse to feel uncomfortable around you. Like we have, we have to work together. We're friends. Like we enjoy each other's company. I'm okay to keep this platonic. Like, let's just come to an agreement that we're keeping this platonic. And then she walks away and Sean goes, but how?

Speaker: Sean, you just have to figure it out, sir. Like you will have to figure out. And then this very hysterical romantic date, which I love that they take the lens of like, what were you thinking, Sean, as walking through all of this?

Speaker: There's a ah opera ah beautiful bridge, one of my worst nightmares, but a beautiful bridge, an opera singer, ah balloon artist, and a mime. Which he doesn't claim the mime, but it's hard to know. It's hard to sure hard to know.

Speaker: It's true. Yeah, and he's just like, oh no, she doesn't love opera, she just loves rotund men. ah Robust Italian men. Oh, there you go, robust. I knew it was an R. Robust Italian men.

Speaker: The balloon artist was very impressive, I have to say. And, yeah, and then that that's where we end. Yeah. So, yes, we'll have to kind of watch yeah them.

Speaker: Yeah, I mean, I guess that's kind of the thesis of them going forward is we can keep this platonic, but how? But how? Right, we'll try our best. We'll see what happens. right Kind of what it is. And then I guess the end of this, well, yeah, we'll see the end of this season where they kind of land because things really kind of change at the end of the season.

Speaker: yeah It was so good to get back in the swing of doing this. I really liked getting to sit and and laugh and chat about all this again. It is fun to return to this world.

Speaker: It is. Yeah. We'll keep on it. We will. What's up next? He Dead is next. It is the airplane crash with Christine Barancon.

Speaker: This is a great one. Yeah. Another, like, we're gonna question Sean and his abilities kind of an episode, which is fun. Yeah. And another person, another outsider who does not really...

Speaker: have a lot of patience oh yeah no patience for him he like gets over it pretty quick yes yeah no patience for the shenanigans um which is fair i i mean we'll talk next episode about this but feel like sean is is kind of is does diametrically opposed work here diametrically opposed to like the the rich person world that they go into here which is very like serious and like posh and like chic and sean is like a chaotic gremlin who runs in with does doesn't really behave that way correct so there's that already kind of bashing heads and then also him not getting the results that they want the time that they want it and all and all of these things that kind of lead to more tension which will be interesting and fun
