jamie peacock: Welcome home to The Learning Machinist, where it's just you, the work, and the machines. What have you got going on today, Kurt?
Curt: Uh... This. time i'm going to talk about uh boring -ass production and fun -ass quad flying. and how ultrasonics, you might not get what you pay for.
Curt: How about you? What are you going to talk about?
jamie peacock: Fancy. I'm going to talk about the IMTS prep brush. Uh... instagram posts versus reels which is something quite interesting and that i have a leaky back door How are you this fine day Kurt?
Curt: Great in that regard, by comparison.
jamie peacock: oh
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: Yeah, when this...
Curt: Let's go.
jamie peacock: ah When this episode goes out. We will be in the US already.
Curt: whoa
jamie peacock: We, uh... We fly out tomorrow. So I have the morning to quickly go prove out a program and then come back home and get my shit together.
Curt: Yeah, that's awesome.
jamie peacock: um We're heading to the airport at La Copos 1 tomorrow afternoon.
Curt: Okay, I was gonna say that before we started this podcast Mike Do you need to make this like a super short one or like I didn't know when you're flying out so Okay.
jamie peacock: No. we be We'll be good with this episode. um Regarding that next week's episode is going to be a short episode. It's also going to come out on the wrong day. It will be coming out in all likelihood on Monday that IMTS starts.
jamie peacock: It'll be a short episode because we're recording at the Airbnb. And then... There will be... short episodes through the week. So that'll be episode 90 on Monday. Um, just, uh, food.
jamie peacock: catch up of the trip and talk shit with Kurt, then... ah Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, there'll probably be like a 15 -minute episode every day just going over what I saw that was cool at the booths, what Kurt wants me to look at the next day at the booths.
jamie peacock: That kind of thing.
Curt: happened
jamie peacock: And then... the episode when i'm in new york will probably also be a short episode because We're at a hotel. I don't know what the internet's going to be like. And then... The week after that... Episode on T.
jamie peacock: Two. will be a regular episode just from recorded a little bit later than usual because I get back from the US and I drive straight down to Edinburgh Bay for a wedding. So. Yeah. the next.
jamie peacock: The next three weeks are chaos.
Curt: Sounds it.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: That's crazy.
jamie peacock: so But anyway, y 'all, so next week's schedule is going to be weird. around episode 90. But that's because we had INTS. so It's going well. I'm at IMTS. Kurt's being lame.
Curt: Yeah, I... ah i'll I looked the day before, but it's not. It's not looking good for multitude series.
jamie peacock: your cardboard cutout is getting smaller and smaller.
Curt: Is it white?
jamie peacock: It's still going to be labeled. one scale one to one.
Curt: nice I like it.
jamie peacock: yes yeah I actually haven't organized the cardboard cutout, so sorry people, no cardboard cutout of Kurt this time.
Curt: That's quite all right.
jamie peacock: Yeah, we'll just get my mother -in -law to fill in for him.
Curt: Yeah, you... probably yeah i i've never met her but she probably looks like me Yeah.
jamie peacock: the fucking yeah that's going to be fun traveling with her
Curt: hehehehe
jamie peacock: um we'll leave We'll leave it at that. It's going to be fun. Yeah, they all, you know, are now trying to get me to sit next to them on the plane.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I'm like, fuck off. I'm going to go sit by myself.
Curt: You're just gonna go sit in a corner all by your lonesome? Yeah.
jamie peacock: I don't give a fuck. 15 hours i'm gonna sleep anyway don't need to sit next to people i know
Curt: Fair. Yeah. Who needs to talk or like. Yeah, I try to pass the time.
jamie peacock: Fuck that shit.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I'm gonna play GTA, kill some whores, and then sleep.
Curt: but That's... I... yeah if you can sleep great that's kind of the way to do those long flights
jamie peacock: Sleeping pills. So we've got a four just over a four -hour flight up to Nairobi.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: then it's an hour and a half layover and then it's 15 hours which isn't brutal It's not 20 hours.
Curt: No.
jamie peacock: Um, So yeah, 15 hours to New York and then... ah pick up a rental car so we're gonna pop some sleeping pills on the 15 hour flat like stay awake for two or three hours Sleeping pools. Kunk out. And then.
jamie peacock: Wake up another side.
Curt: Nice. i mean's Probably the best way to try to avoid the jet lag, so.
jamie peacock: Yep.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: uh also going that direction jet lag is not too bad Coming back, it's back.
Curt: Oh, yeah? Okay.
jamie peacock: coming back.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: like it's really bad so again Take off in New York, pop a couple sleeping pills, Nairobi, home. a couple more sleeping pills go to fucking bed because we're waking up we get home and like eight hours later we hit the road to go to a wedding We've got a 13 hour drive to go down to Platt.
jamie peacock: It's going to be.
Curt: You've made your... Yeah.
jamie peacock: It's going to be a very rough September.
Curt: So you made your and your little time fun, you know with all kinds of
jamie peacock: Well, no, my dickhead brother but set his wedding just after IMTS. Thank fuck he didn't set it during IMTS because then I wouldn't have gone. I would have had to go to his frigging wedding.
Curt: Oh, I thought you were gonna say he wouldn't have gone to his wedding. Heh.
jamie peacock: No, no, he's my only brother.
Curt: Proper.
jamie peacock: I can't be that much of a dickhead.
Curt: Okay fair.
jamie peacock: but Considering I'm the best man I kind of have to be there.
Curt: Yeah, it would look awkward without you, for sure.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Yeah, it would be a little a little weird if I wasn't there. I was actually talking to my mother last night about it. she's flying down a week early to help and then uh yeah We're getting there. two days before the wedding. doing the bachelor party i think on the friday night the wedding's on the saturday
Curt: oof I guess.
jamie peacock: It's because a lot of his friends are coming in from far. It's not gonna be like strippers and shit it's going to be going shoot some shit or go fishing
Curt: Sure.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: and have a couple brandies at a bonfire. so yeah nothing too too savage but anyway
Curt: Yeah. But...
jamie peacock: back to the Back to the machining things. Kurt and his list of asses.
Curt: Mmm. i have a lot of asses yeah
jamie peacock: I see this.
Curt: but
jamie peacock: How's your ass production going?
Curt: uh ass production is going great um i am this like i i briefly spoke last week um just doing a Shit ton of production um because I want to get. a bunch of stockmates want to do a pre -sale that's going to happen later this month Then I can ship like a good portion of orders.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: or a good portion of my head, um out immediately and then carry on. working um so i'm just trying to balance uh like this whole week i've just been like well i'm like if i'm making this part i make a billion of them and don't do what i did last time whereas i one piece flow a couple parts and be like i have a million jigs that check part so i'm pretty good with this now but i'm like okay these fit it's running happily
jamie peacock: Yes.
jamie peacock: Let it run.
Curt: Let's just let it run. Like i I don't normally do that because I don't like to run just huge batches of parts, but I'm like, let's just try it and not.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: want to walk off the face of the earth. But... Yeah, the little the little quad I bought. Helps a lot with that because I realized I can go and fly like a few packs in my house or like in my backyard.
jamie peacock: Nos.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: and just like get everything running and just do something fun for like 10 minutes and it just like it breaks up the monotony so yeah that's been That's been helping a ton.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Like it does get. It gets a tad monotonous.
Curt: Ugh, yeah.
jamie peacock: running shit loads of parts here. Like we.
Curt: Yeah, just.
jamie peacock: Yeah, when I get back, I have 200 ,000 parts to run. Like, they'll be blanked.
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: I need to... put them in the LK and run them when I get back. I don't really want to get Cole trying to run the, well, the spindle gripper won't be there. I'm taking it with me. so I can't even have them run it.
Curt: Right. Right. right
jamie peacock: um Yo. is what it is. so we'll get back and then we'll
Curt: That's a lot.
jamie peacock: And that's like three days worth of production. like flat out. to get through that.
Curt: It's just... It's just so easy to make mistakes and not even make mistakes of just being like Just, like, not watch an insert and just let it get cooked and then be like, oh, shit, i I've cooked 50 parts because I just didn't catch it.
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: and like Yeah.
jamie peacock: No, it's it's very easy to do that as when you're running production like it's something you've got it You've got to stay on top of all these things because should start slipping through the cracks
Curt: Mm -hmm Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: So you've got to you've got to be on it.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: That's all. So you're making a whole boatload.
Curt: So.
jamie peacock: you are you Are you scaling up production as well to see what you're actually capable of production -wise?
Curt: Kind of. yeah like i'm seeing what the machines can just do because i'm like well it's running happily and normally i would be like okay i'm gonna make this many and i'm gonna flip and i'm gonna make this and i'm gonna flip just to keep the uh turn around fairly fast whereas in this instance i don't
jamie peacock: Okay.
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: really care because i know like when i do a presale i'm gonna get a fairly large sum of money, probably like... Kind of just... Like. it's probably gonna be more than i would normally get in just a single batch so
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: i don't mind kind of putting the cart ahead of the horse or behind the horse whatever way you think about it
jamie peacock: we Putting the work in up front, y 'all.
Curt: Totally, yeah. So I don't mind being like, okay, I'm just going to sit like pocket clips.
jamie peacock: Yep.
Curt: I'm like, I may as well just run pocket clips until I basically am starting to run out of material. I'm like, I may as well run these parts until I'm starting to run out of material and just try to get like... Yeah, so
jamie peacock: A whole...
Curt: I don't normally do that.
jamie peacock: Yeah, a whole box full
Curt: So, yeah, it's it's been it's. Yeah, and then I'm just going to get absolutely crushed at the end when I have to hand finish it all. And I've been actually talking to a bunch of people that are in the same boat where it's like, yeah, our machines can outproduce what you can hand finish.
Curt: automating hand finishing stuff is really difficult and really expensive. So.
jamie peacock: You need a sausage polisher.
Curt: Yeah. it's A sausage polisher would help for certain things. And like certain other things, it's just like.
jamie peacock: but not for everything Yeah.
Curt: There's some automated tooling, like i can like very custom tooling that I can just make.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: That'll help. um But like you can't buy it. Um, And... Some of it I will do, but like... Yeah, I've just been talking about a few few guys, actually, that... We're doing the same. we were We were like talking about, I was actually telling one guy. um I'll try to find them on my Instagram. um About, like, diamond tooling.
Curt: because like i wonder how much like how good of a finish i can pull because
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: I'm not going to throw shade at anybody, but I see like a lot of. Even people that are making like really high -end gear and I look at like their Instagram pictures and I'm like Yeah.
jamie peacock: I can, yeah.
Curt: Like I know that's. I know that's coming off the machine like that, but I'm like, that's not. like it could be better you could make it look better with hand finishing it would look better and i know you're not because you can't do it in the quantities you're doing but like
jamie peacock: Yep.
jamie peacock: Are you...
Curt: It. It's better.
jamie peacock: With hand finishing, is that hand sanding or blasting or what is the main?
Curt: Lots. It's, yeah, it's blasting. It's polishing. It's scotch -briting. It's sanding. It's, yeah, there's a... billion different things.
jamie peacock: There's a lot of steps. Yeah.
Curt: A lot of different ones for different. What are you sending me here? one. Oh shit. Yeah. dick Yeah. A cobot. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Have a dear Danny Rudolph.
Curt: oh There are some things, and ah actually it's a fun thing we were talking about. is like There are some steps that are very easy. like blasting for instance is a very easy one to automate because you can you can danny rudolph it you can have a robot that jam something into a cabinet and blast it and that's
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: That's why I do like that finish and why I'm... That's kind of one of my main finishes I'm working with, which is a blasted and then tumbled finish.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: because It's automatable.
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: So.
jamie peacock: yeah i think that's gonna need to be your next step is automating some of the finishing processes
Curt: Totally. Yeah. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: And getting just much better with tumbling, investing in much, much nicer tumblers, investing in better cleaning. like just to Just to kill that whole aspect of it. before i even look at machines because right now they can still outproduce me so
jamie peacock: Yeah. Exactly.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Look at that.
Curt: Yippee -yippee -yippee.
jamie peacock: Um. Yeah, with regards to the tumbling thing i have stupid thoughts um
Curt: o
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: I like stupid thoughts.
jamie peacock: Making a turret of pots. So you put, say, six pens on. hit go and it blasts all six pens and then you just come take them off put them on hit go and it blasts all six pens and it'll do one
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: then rotate do the next rotate then you at least get a bit of walk away down
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: instead of a whole robot situation.
Curt: Oh, yeah, totally. Yeah. And like, that's.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: yeah that's like the the easiest one to do like the more annoying ones are like
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Like for instance, like pocket clips, I machine them. They look really good off the machine. And I bet you some people would enjoy an off the machine finish. But like. I don't. I don't think it looks complete. Like I can see the tooling marks and sometimes it's perfect.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Sometimes you get a swirl of like where a chip got caught and it just.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: it ruins it um so i can't guarantee those to be perfect each time so then i just i just sat in the faces but that means Taking them out.
jamie peacock: You said... and sat in the faces.
Curt: And you do it. And then if you do one, that's one face satin, all the other edges look out of place because they're bright, super. So then you got to do every face to make it look. uniform and just like Also nits. It's not much, it's maybe...
Curt: two minutes a pocket clip but it's two minutes a pocket clip like
jamie peacock: abrasive brushes
Curt: ah Yeah, yeah, absolutely. yeah they're like There is ways to for sure help it.
jamie peacock: I'm going...
Curt: i
jamie peacock: To look at them, but I think that's only on third. Is that on test? No.
Curt: Yeah, I
jamie peacock: Wednesday. IMTS, that is where our plan needs to go on that. that area.
Curt: I don't love abrasives in my machine, but I was also thinking I have the little... kurt sitting right here i could literally make palettes and it could like it could just abrasive brush things and yeah there's
jamie peacock: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: There's things I've been trying to think like. out of the box a little bit more for that kind of stuff.
jamie peacock: Well, I mean even in the case of the pocket clip You could put it on a five axis if you really want you've got enough axes on the machine so you could hold it this way. Rotate that way, rotate that way.
jamie peacock: to hit all the edges with an abrasive brush it doesn't have to be fast it just needs to be not slow
Curt: How do you, sorry, what do you mean five axis?
jamie peacock: So you make yourself a little trunnion -y.
Curt: Oh! Sure. Make. Okay. There we go.
jamie peacock: Doesn't have to be rigid.
Curt: Yeah. yeah
jamie peacock: It's holding it against the fucking brush.
Curt: Totally.
jamie peacock: and then you literally just pop it in tighten a screw and it's
Curt: Totally.
jamie peacock: you can hit all the sides unattended.
Curt: Totally. Yeah, yeah.
jamie peacock: So yeah.
Curt: no Like. I know, that's stuff I never really considered. And I'm like, well. You could do it.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: like it's once again it's custom there's gonna be monstrous kind of upfront costs but like
jamie peacock: not even that monstrous yeah
Curt: how quick How quick will it pay for itself? or like monstrous time costs um but
jamie peacock: That's the thing.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Hello. It pays quick, right? so Yeah.
jamie peacock: it'll recoup your time very quickly if you're not having to stand like you're sure you gotta load each part into the thing but That's not a huge amount of labor.
Curt: No, there's yeah exactly like there's there's ways around it for certain
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: For sure.
jamie peacock: about something else something to consider because your finishing is going to become your bottleneck now
Curt: Oh, 100%. 100 % is going to be my bottleneck. and And yeah, like. It's it's good. i Actually, I know... The... I know a bunch of people in this world that have like really fancy machines and they were able to like. turn parts for me on like swiss machines and stuff so i can get a really good view of like would this machine help me in this instance? And some of them are like,
Curt: oh yeah it's great for turning but like for your like live tool work it's like well it's kind of lacking it's not the same as a mill spindle it's a it's a different level of rigidity. so you you're not going to get the crazy finish as you think.
jamie peacock: So...
Curt: and
jamie peacock: What you need is a Willeman.
Curt: Oh dude. I do want a Willeman. Very much so.
jamie peacock: every Everyone wants a willy.
Curt: Yeah. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Willys are great. Um...
Curt: I want like a... I wonder if they made like a I guess. Do they make a... Or can a Willy feed like a Swiss? Or are they like chucker?
jamie peacock: on
Curt: I think they're more chucker.
jamie peacock: It's Chaka. Yeah, it's not a guard pushing.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: It's Chaka.
Curt: That would be pretty sick.
jamie peacock: but that is something i'm actually actively going to go look at the swiss machines because
Curt: God -bushing Swiss.
jamie peacock: That might be enough.
Curt: Are you looking down that road?
jamie peacock: It might not be a stupid idea with the amount of parts we're producing if I can have it run. unattended. for long periods of time or very quickly Yeah, might not be a damn idea.
jamie peacock: Also, I'm going to HDR.
Curt: Dude, I just... You sent me that stupid HDR link and I just log into there and just... Dream.
jamie peacock: swear at people
Curt: ah You Americans have no idea how lucky you have it.
jamie peacock: Because we don't have that shit Yeah.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: You guys have got it fucking great.
Curt: When it comes to machines anyways, yeah.
jamie peacock: Fuck. Yeah. luck you guys have a great when it comes to machines Second hand machines especially because they fucking don't want nothing for them because they've done what they needed to do
Curt: Yeah. Oh, i would I would walk out of there with just...
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Tons of weight.
jamie peacock: Well you wouldn't walk, you would drive a forklift or a truck.
Curt: Yeah. Yeah, it's like...
jamie peacock: Yeah. So I'm excited to go look there and see what they've got.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: um
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: But yeah, there's fucking all sorts of... fun stuff that we're going to see there.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Ugh. Yeah.
Curt: What about what about you?
jamie peacock: um
Curt: What's up? What's let's see I want to, I mean.
jamie peacock: I think I'll pick one there.
Curt: i mean I know which one I want to pick, but let's... Leave the leaky back door for a minute. Um,
jamie peacock: Oh, fuck.
Curt: What was it? What's the jig job? Just because it's funny to say.
jamie peacock: So... i finished those molds A week ago, two weeks ago, the guy came and picked them up and he's like, hey, we got this job we need you to do.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I'm like, I'm out of the country, motherfuckers. So I've gotten... a drawing pack. it's not a complete drawing pack but it's i can get material pricing together I need to actually get on a call on Monday morning with the guy who designed it and just...
jamie peacock: Have him make some changes and discuss a few of the... Things that are on there that are all a bit fucking stupid. Um, But yeah, that is literally. While I'm traveling around the US, I'm going to be quoting this job.
jamie peacock: Um...
Curt: Cool.
jamie peacock: Yeah, the plate is... A meter by 400?
Curt: Poor.
jamie peacock: So it is
Curt: Begin.
jamie peacock: And there's in the middle of the plate, there are holes over. 700 by like 300 millimeters. that are all very tight tolerance very tight positional So we're going to make the assumption that the machine can be that accurate.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: and then we'll shift the plates over, machine the ends, they're not as critical. Um, So there's one big plate, two bars that end up being two and a half meters long. It's broken into sections.
jamie peacock: but i need to chat and they got them joining with shoulder bolts i'm gonna be like Mm. Let's rather... join it with two dial pins and then bolt it together. That way we... It's a bit less of a stupid situation.
jamie peacock: Um,
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: And then there's... A whole bunch of tough little parts that go with this. So there's like 79 of the one component and 32 of the different components. And then there's...
jamie peacock: 12 variants? of this thing it's like 400 long with a bunch of holes in it and fucking yeah wild components. uh all the threads in them and shit like that so i'm gonna have to I'm going to quote them on tooling. I'm just going to order a bunch of tool holders and be like, these are now the tough little tools. thread moves, end moves. It's for this job because it's going to be a recurring job.
Curt: Oh, okay.
jamie peacock: But yeah, it's ah it's a hell of a fucking thing. um And then yeah there's a piece that's so these big plates. or 10 millimeters thick but there's a 50 millimeter standoff on it so we're going to glue that up so we're going to make rings that are undersized by comma one or so that when they stack it all up.
jamie peacock: the aluminium spacer sets the heart.
Curt: Okay, okay.
jamie peacock: But it's, yeah, it's... it's a fucking it's a lot of brain power to get this thing quoted So I'm going to get it quoted, get the tarot ordered while I'm in the US. It'll come in while I'm away. Then I'll go to the wedding when I get back from the wedding. it's the first thing in the machine is getting this job done
Curt: Okay, okay.
jamie peacock: Yeah, it's a hell of a... Hell of a fucking thing. So yeah, I need to... I need to. chat to the designer and just find out a few details Because there's... five millimeter diameter dowel holes that go through a 25 thick plate i need to know if that How deep that needs to be accurate. Does it need to be through?
jamie peacock: accurate or that is the bottom half of the hole just relief And if that's the case, can we drill it? 4 .7 and then just for the top of the hole. Like. What can we do to...
jamie peacock: to make this less stupid to manufacture.
Curt: Right. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Especially if you're going to do a bunch of them.
jamie peacock: Yeah, because it's a
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: There's a lot of dumb. A lot of them. so you're gonna have to have a chat with with roger about that But yeah, it's ah the drawing pack is in my car.
Curt: Huh.
jamie peacock: I've been working my way through it over the last couple days, but it's like... It's days and days of work to quote this. So my plan is tomorrow, sit on an aeroplane. Open it up, make a list in my book. and actually work through this whole fucking pack.
jamie peacock: so that I've... i can be like okay there's four of this pot these are the critical tolerances like and just it's going to take me a week to probably quit this job. Because it's...
Curt: Jesus.
jamie peacock: And that these are not the final drawings or final models. These are just placeholders so that I can quote it.
Curt: o
jamie peacock: So yeah, it's a bit of a... Bit of a shit show.
Curt: h
jamie peacock: But it should be fun.
Curt: I said, what's the chance of getting the job?
jamie peacock: Oh, I've got the job.
Curt: Oh, okay.
jamie peacock: It's not it's not
Curt: So it's... It's worth your time.
jamie peacock: Yeah, no, no, it's worth my time, and I'm going to fucking absolutely rip the ring on the price for the first one.
Curt: but
jamie peacock: um If you don't like it, go elsewhere. You can't. Sorry. Um, But it's it's the guy I do the molds for, and like i've I've got a good working relationship with him.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: If I send him a quote, he's like, oh, fuck, your process is way out, then we can adjust. Um,
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: yeah I tend to ask him how much is in this job, but yeah we'll see. Like the molds were very worth my time, even though I sanded through my finger in two places.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Sending them all stuck. Still worth my time.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Um, but yeah they were very happy with the molds so More work. Yay.
Curt: Cool.
jamie peacock: Um, but yeah it's uh It's hurting my brain working through this thing. Because there's like...
Curt: Love you.
jamie peacock: so many bits and pieces and i'm like can we please add on the tuftal parts they're getting bonded and it doesn't matter can we add like four drilled little divots that we can use to count in binary that when the part comes off the machine It is a already part numbered.
Curt: Let's see.
jamie peacock: It's super quick to do is go to to to to see the one Tchoo! three uh yeah use binary because then there's 12 parts so we use four digits And there we go. We good. We know that.
jamie peacock: we know what the part number is basically. Um,
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Because the last thing I want to do is get them confused. when they're going to opt -in.
Curt: Right, right, yeah, yeah.
jamie peacock: Because they all look very they they are all different, but they all look very similar
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Like extremely fucking similar. And then I've got to make jigs for all of this.
Curt: Let's pray.
jamie peacock: I've got to make anchor point pallets for all of these things.
Curt: he Yeah, yeah.
jamie peacock: yes so we're going to hold down like a 12 mil tufnil plate machine the stuff then sawed apart bolted in from the bottom or through knife making method onto a fixture Deck the top off.
Curt: Okay. Yeah.
jamie peacock: and put in some fixtures so there's you know like i've got to think about how i want to do it because some of them there's 12 of the one parts and then one one one one one one so i want to make the one that's got 12 i want
Curt: Ew. Yeah.
jamie peacock: three or four of them on a pallet. so that we're only running three pallets of it. itself so Yeah. a lot of shit that goes into into planning these kind of stupid things. Product production is way easier.
Curt: Gross. Yeah. Fuck yeah. 100%. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah, way way easier.
Curt: Hot tip, kids. yeah sell something you make
jamie peacock: Yeah. make products. Yeah.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Much easier. You get to design all the stupidness into it yourself.
Curt: exactly yeah exactly you run yourself down your own yeah stupid dead end roads yeah
jamie peacock: No. Yeah. Exactly. um Yeah, I had to put...
Curt: Duh
jamie peacock: i had to put some of the parts for the handy siemens back into the machine yesterday
Curt: Why come?
jamie peacock: Because Moritul... The EI -11, the... Stim. My ones are 18 .95 to 19.
jamie peacock: Their one's 1905. And when you actually measure it, it's 19 .1. So I had to open up some parts to 19 .1 so I can assemble it there.
Curt: Mmm.
jamie peacock: Fucking, yeah.
Curt: I see.
jamie peacock: Little annoying, but not the end of the world. Um,
Curt: fair
jamie peacock: Yeah. i assembled a bunch of nimble gripper cylinders yesterday So my FedEx parcel. was meant to be on Monday.
Curt: Oh, okay, okay.
jamie peacock: It was in Dubai on Sunday, on Saturday, which means normally Monday you're going to get your parcel. Fuck all. Tuesday, fuck all. Wednesday, phone Felix. Oi, cancer, where's my parcel? oh sorry there was a strike at nairobi airport They're not offloading the plane.
jamie peacock: So it went back to Dubai. And then came in, I got it on Friday.
Curt: Oh.
Curt: Oh, okay.
jamie peacock: Sorry.
Curt: At least you got it.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I got it. I quickly reworked all the cylinders, did all the shit I need to do to them. uh they're all assembled now and like most of them are coming with
Curt: Okay. oh That's good.
jamie peacock: Yeah. so i'm gonna get another batch on order while i'm overseas that when i come back i've got another batch of grippers in hand. Because the lead time on them is a little bit rough because I'm having them custom assembled because I don't want Loctite.
Curt: Nice.
Curt: Right. Right, right, right.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Well, I mean, it'd probably save you time in the long run, so yeah.
jamie peacock: ah Don't have to draw the fucking portals. So yeah, much better without Loctite.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Much, much better. So yeah, I'm gonna get another batch of that Loctite. And then I need ya it's all all sorts of odds and ends. I'm gonna be putting all that shit into order so that I can just keep track of all my... All my stuff.
jamie peacock: But yeah. Again, haven't had time to do so.
Curt: Yep. Yeah. Yeah, that's the problem. when you Pull all the levers. It's like...
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: you've got to prioritize what needs to be out the door.
Curt: Mm hmm.
jamie peacock: everything else kind of falls by the wayside.
Curt: Yeah no totally.
jamie peacock: Watch out, Eddie.
Curt: Yep.
jamie peacock: yeah it's a bit of a ball like
Curt: Absolutely.
jamie peacock: So.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: ah Why do stickers... and tariffs both suck or stickers awesome and tariffs suck
Curt: Yo. ah it Tariffs suck, um but stickers particularly suck because they are in one of the all -encompassing...
jamie peacock: of
Curt: hs HS codes that get hit with a 50 % tariff.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: which I don't really make money on stuff. Like I sell the stickers just. mainly to so people have my stickers and shit and they stick my stickers on it it's like branding and whatever and they're funny um so i basically charge enough that yeah of course i make money off it but like I'm not gonna.
Curt: I'm not gonna be retiring off stickers. um And then when they get tariffed. 50 % of the that. i i just eat because i'm like well fuck it like i don't care i make i i price it high enough that i'm like i don't care like as long as i don't lose money when people buy stickers
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: i don't really care Um, So when people order with their order, it's no big issue at all because I'm the... pen. Like that.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: encompassed like with the shipping that all works out but when people some people just order sticker packs from me which is okay but then i like like okay well you paid ah like the customer paid a decent amount Um, and then and then like i look at the and i'm like well i just basically gave yeah like i made so eight dollars off this whatever sixty dollar order from the customer which is
jamie peacock: You gave it all to the... yeah.
Curt: Fine. And like. If it was, if this was my sole business, of course I would pass along to the customer. In my case, I don't really care. So it's like, whatever, eat it. to I'll stay off that topic. um I'll just eat it. and ah ah But yeah, it just it's like...
Curt: I feel for the people that are doing art and trying to sell it. um internationally right now because or at least not international to the us uh because You're getting. You're getting roasted. And it's unfair.
jamie peacock: Yabba.
Curt: um
jamie peacock: that whole situation is annoying What? I've just got options.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: It's... Pre -pay tariffs or non -pre -pay tariffs? Fucking, if you don't want to prepay them, you deal with it when it arrives.
Curt: Yeah, and like... everybody i've talked to like on reddit on instagram and stuff like that they're all like super like
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: on that same page and be like, yeah, we know it. like ah Just charge me. like bill me i get it it's silly and just like okay at least everyone's
jamie peacock: Everyone's on the same page, John.
Curt: cool about it. Yeah, they all know it's just going to...
jamie peacock: 100 %
Curt: Whatever. I'll stay on that topic.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Well, we are...
Curt: I'll keep my mouth shut.
jamie peacock: we we're going over now and i was like what danica and her mommy said like we have nothing to declare We go through. airport we have nothing to declare
Curt: Oh, yeah.
jamie peacock: I'm splitting my shit between three bags. the stuff I'm bringing.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: on the off chance a bag goes missing i don't want to now oh fuck it was the bag with all the stuff and that's all the merch all the fucking samples and shit so i'm splitting it evenly between the three bags in an attempt to get all my shit in one go.
Curt: Totally. Yeah.
jamie peacock: But yeah, we bring you a lot of stuff.
Curt: Yeah. Yeah.
jamie peacock: like We've got anchor points. We've got handy Siemens. we've got uh bonnet well we don't have that many barnacles i sold half of my stock yesterday. um i'm bringing keel clamps i'm bringing knobs like there's a lot of stuff i'm bringing with
Curt: Nice.
Curt: Yeah, and like... I like we used to do with my old job we used to do shows like across the we'd cross the border with it and we'd So you have to like declare and like. It... The loops and paperwork you have to put into place. If you have like...
Curt: a what do they call it like ah a broker like a cross -border broker whatever it makes it so much easier because they know how to do it all but we didn't and we're like oh we can like self -declare all this stuff and like And they're like.
jamie peacock: yeah
Curt: immediately they're like all right where's your itinerary we're like what you have to have an itinerary it's like oh yeah of course you do if you're doing a commercial show you need to blah bla blah blah and it's like Ah, shit. It's like... ah
jamie peacock: Look.
Curt: Go over there, talk to the broker. It's like, okay.
jamie peacock: Yeah, we're just gonna be coming on holiday or vacation like fucking Yeah. Hopefully you won't have any the issues.
Curt: Yeah. Yeah, if you're not if you don't have like hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of stuff, you're probably not going to be a concern.
jamie peacock: We will find out. No, it's fucking...
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: Let's...
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: it's all sample units anyway That's what I want to tell them.
Curt: Exactly. yeah
jamie peacock: I guess I'll believe it.
Curt: Yeah, they're all demo sampling. Yep.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Easier way to go about it.
jamie peacock: What fucking... Yeah. um And yeah, we'll see. We didn't have any issues last time. We didn't have as much stuff, but yeah it's going to be in between the clothes and shit. It's not like it's a whole bag of fucking tools or parts or something.
jamie peacock: which I've done too.
Curt: Sure.
jamie peacock: Um...
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: When I went to Chile, they wanted to know that all the tools were coming back with me and I wasn't leaving any of them there.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: but I was out to pay duties on them. i'm like no it's all my tools are coming back with me i think i came back with i went there with a whole bag of tools i came back with a single screwdriver
Curt: Oh yeah. Cool.
jamie peacock: Yeah fucking taking them there for the job and they stayed with the machines but they didn't need to know that
Curt: Yeah, they were giveaways. yeah
jamie peacock: Yeah, 100%. so hopefully we don't have any any bullshit.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: We'll know by this time next week.
Curt: Well... ah Speaking of that, speaking of bringing things across the border, why do you have a leaky back door?
jamie peacock: That's a fucking great transition.
Curt: ah
jamie peacock: So when when we moved into the workshop.
Curt: okay
jamie peacock: My neighbor said, hey, watch it.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: The back door leaks. So I was like, oh okay, cool.
Curt: Hmm.
jamie peacock: He's like, no, they had he had quoted to put up an awning for the previous tenants. And then they moved out. so Nothing happened. I was like, okay, cool, no worries. I wanted to see how and why. like What do you mean it fucking leaks? like That's a very wide statement.
jamie peacock: So... it the heavens opened on Friday. Like fucking torrential downpour. I found out why it leaks. the door frame is angled in towards the building
Curt: Oh, yeah, yeah.
jamie peacock: So the water runs down the wall. across the top of the doors on the door frame and it just fucking rains down from the door frame inside the
Curt: the
jamie peacock: workshop. So I ended up putting a wedge up against the door to just let the water flow back out And then I went and bought an awning and I put up an awning on the... on the back door. So I'm going to see what I got in this morning, whether it worked or not.
Curt: Oh cool.
jamie peacock: because it rained overnight. hopefully I'm not going to be swimming to my machine.
Curt: Yeah, that'd be a... Yeah, you don't want to be.
jamie peacock: Well, nothing nothing is on the floor. So it doesn't really fucking matter. But obviously, I don't want it i don't want leaking. Lock, move when necessary So yeah, I went and bought an awning.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: It was like $60. It's a two -person job to install an awning. I installed it yesterday by myself
Curt: ah
jamie peacock: It was a fucking ball ache, but yeah, it's installed just a nice little fucking clear awning. that'll keep the rain off the... The wall. We'll then hit the awning and come. Come off the front of the awning, not down the doorframe.
Curt: Right. Yeah, that's the way to go.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: yeah so it's not expensive well not particularly expensive i wanted to buy one a few weeks ago but i actually wanted to see where the fuck the leak was like how is this leaking so that i'm addressing the problem appropriately so yeah went and got that And then today I've got to go in. I'll see you.
jamie peacock: be swimming to the machines because i need to go assemble a bunch of handy siemens i was short of some parts that needed to be anodized
Curt: listen
jamie peacock: So I'm going to go and assemble some. this morning. I was printing trays yesterday.
Curt: Nice. Ooh, slick.
jamie peacock: Yes, and the day before. I can do two trays per day. because I have to do a color change. three hours and four hours in But yeah, I want a P1S now.
Curt: Right.
Curt: Ah, yeah, just bigger volume. Yeah.
jamie peacock: ah Yeah, I can't print i can't print a gridfinity tray for the BT30 version.
Curt: and enclosed.
Curt: Yeah. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Because I just don't have the travels so I want to get a slightly bigger printer and then enclosed as well
Curt: cool
jamie peacock: So Danica is swearing at me. She said oh you said this was gonna be the printer. I'm like, yeah, it is the printer. It's like it Sorry She's making God laugh. and all the money.
Curt: well yeah you kind of do so yeah
jamie peacock: Yeah, but also make all the money, so get fucked.
Curt: Ha ha.
jamie peacock: Like, straight up. Get fucked. i'll make all the money Um, Yeah.
Curt: Hmph.
jamie peacock: So.
Curt: That's awesome.
jamie peacock: before Before we get into ultrasonics... um We have patrons.
Curt: Yes.
jamie peacock: And they put the wind in our sails.
Curt: oh say
jamie peacock: Yes, courtesy of EJ. um Yeah, Patreon's all good access, so. All the ones who pay more than $6 get access to the after show. uh where we talk shit for another 15 -ish minutes after this um They also get Q and &A things and stuff.
jamie peacock: I don't actually know. um They will be getting a goodie bag, though. either in person at IMTS or shipped.
Curt: mm -hmm
jamie peacock: on after ips uh with Depending on where it's going... some tasty things. But yeah. The top tier patrons will get a shout out every week. And that list is Jade for Bedrock20, Luke for Fantastic.
jamie peacock: aj from subtract manufacturing Jason Ace, EJ from Nocturnal Welding, the Aussie Machinist. Charles Olsen. Christian Olsen, Charles White, Carl from Curse Machine, Matt from Offworld Gear. Alex B., John from 2SM Performance, Matt from Modern Fuel, Josh from Later Machine, Greg from Tabletop Machine Shop, Ben from Prickly Pear Prototypes, and Jesse from Data Proto.
jamie peacock: Um, I think like more than half of those people are going to be at IMTS.
Curt: That's cool. That's so cool.
jamie peacock: It's quite exciting. Yeah, like I know Ash is going to be there. um So yeah, the Aussie Machinist, looking forward to seeing Ash again.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: um Yeah, we've got, ah so yeah, the patrons all getting. Like. goodie bags they're also the ones who responded to the to the survey of who's going to be at the meetup. So they're getting a goodie bag with some tasty South African treats in it.
Curt: Sick. That's awesome.
jamie peacock: yes because we are fancy like that but yeah thank you patrons you make uh
Curt: ah
jamie peacock: that you fill the sails with wind. You also make the wheels on the minecart go round and round.
Curt: There we go. Oh. There you go. i was i was jonesing
jamie peacock: I was worried Kurt was gonna freak out if we didn't play it.
Curt: Well, we needed sound effects, so I was being the wind.
jamie peacock: I got YouTube. Yeah.
Curt: the
jamie peacock: Yeah. EJ Wentz and bought a little sailing trimaran. yesterday
Curt: Oh, okay. I understand now.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: i understand that
jamie peacock: so he sent me a thing do it as the patreon reason i was like sure
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: um yeah he was uh yeah He's busy with his G -pinges. He's got it all programmed now. We're discussing work offsets and potentially adding. putting the third up on two separate work offsets so you can shift them around if you want, if there's any misalignments. But I think if he's within half a thou.
jamie peacock: Oh, sorry, if he's within 2 ,000, he'll be happy. So you shouldn't need it. No.
Curt: Yeah, that's reasonable. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Anyway. um Yeah, so, ultrasonics.
Curt: Yes, so ah some lovely person on Patreon, and I'm sorry I can't remember your name right now because unfortunately... Patreon messages just like... Get. Not Patreon. Silly Kurt.
Curt: ah Instagram.
jamie peacock: instance
Curt: Instagram messages just... go into the ether and they get buried by people responding. And then i just I lose them so quick. Some people like send me Instagram messages and I'm like, I quickly please send me an email because this will go away and I will never find it again.
Curt: um Anyways. he found or He sent me a video. um on ultrasonics comparing like crest ultrasonic units to a few other budget units. And I guess one of these budget units just is kind of walking over these ah more expensive units. So I will link the YouTube. video in the show notes. uh full disclosure i haven't actually watched the video yet so i don't know exactly what it's about it's on my watch later list i've just had an insane week
Curt: um So anyways, that's something I'm curious to think about because a lot of people actually reached out about ultrasonics. in all kinds of different industries, which is, I really appreciate. um it's part of the benefit of this podcast is i get to talk to so many super cool people Which is like...
Curt: Yeah, it's awesome. I love being able to crowdsource my information. So thank you to everybody. who sends us messages. um I very much appreciate it. And it was was eye -opening. Some people were like, oh yeah, we blank, blank, blank, blank, blank. And I was like.
Curt: pin interesting cell phone. For the most part, people do say the crest units are kind of top tier and you're probably not going to find a better one.
jamie peacock: yeah
Curt: so Yes, still on my list, but...
jamie peacock: okay Interesting.
Curt: It's just kind of. Kind of cool to see that one of the like very budget units is...
jamie peacock: is doing so well
Curt: doing. doing quite well.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: And I know this guy that was chatting with me, he ordered one and he said he'll have it in a few. a few weeks or something like that so he's gonna keep me posted and i will remember his handle and i will I will share it with you all. because and that's i don't know why it matters but people like hearing their names so
jamie peacock: 100 % everyone likes having their names
Curt: Yeah. Totally. appreciate I appreciate the info. all the the info so Thank you. Nameless person if I can find you I will I will mention you.
Curt: dr
jamie peacock: ah There we go. There was definitely no pause or interruption. Um...
Curt: but
jamie peacock: So. Interesting thing. i posted an instagram post i've been posting reels lately
Curt: Okay. Mm hmm.
jamie peacock: Post has got like 200 views.
Curt: Mm hmm.
jamie peacock: Reels are like... thousands of views.
Curt: Oh, yeah, 100%. Yeah, the reels are...
jamie peacock: Yeah, it's fucking awesome.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: It's like dramatically different. Obviously they're feeding it in their reels feed. um
Curt: Mm hmm.
jamie peacock: as opposed to just putting an image in there. But yeah, I was quite... quite shocked at the the difference
Curt: That's unfortunate that Instagram is kind of just flipped to the way of TikTok and it's like. unless you're posting a video.
jamie peacock: Well, yeah.
Curt: It's never going to get. shown to anybody.
jamie peacock: Yeah. like ah Although the engagement on that has been... pretty much the same as with the thousand view reels.
Curt: Oh, well, i'm that's good. i don't even know what counts anymore though does that count anymore does it only count if like i
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: I don't know how any of this stuff works anymore.
jamie peacock: Fuck those. They change shit every week.
Curt: I don't know
jamie peacock: I was actually chatting to one of my customers this week. He's like, something's changed on Instagram. He's not picking up, Locke. 20 followers a day. He sells knife supplies. and he's been Stagnate it, Mark. dead dead for the last year and now all of a sudden he's picking up followers on every post
Curt: Hmm.
jamie peacock: so he's like no something's definitely something's definitely changed on the back end i'm sorry I'm surprised he fucking gets anything he's got knobs in his name.
Curt: yeah Yeah, it's usually a shadow ban instant, yeah.
jamie peacock: you know, season off supplies, like. He makes math.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Oh, he sells mouth -making stuff. I'm surprised he isn't Shadowbound.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Or maybe they've gotten in less strict on it since Ben got banned.
Curt: I hope so. like Can we all just be adults and just...
jamie peacock: No. Yeah, like fucking...
Curt: consume what we want to consume. not have to have
jamie peacock: Exactly.
Curt: Police state? Nanny's over us.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Whatever.
jamie peacock: Fucking y 'all. like geez it's not like we're flying low over stadiums or anything
Curt: Exactly, yeah, those people are crazy.
jamie peacock: No.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Not really. They literally handed over the black boxes, like all the flight recording data and everything, because everything was above board.
Curt: I don't know. Yeah.
jamie peacock: There was no like, YOLO, let's go low. That was the plan. flat root anyway. Let us not rant about this.
Curt: That's so that was so low. was So low.
jamie peacock: That's fun. We've got a long history of doing that.
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: of flying planes really low over stadiums.
Curt: Well, I've seen some videos out of your land, mostly helicopters, but yeah.
jamie peacock: yeah Ah, helicopter pilots or something fucking else. I was chatting to my uncle that one day he was deployed up in Africa, he was with the army, and he reckons you could till when the South African pilots pitched up.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Because the French pilots would go one at a time, land, you would climb on the helicopter and they would take off and the next helicopter would land. And they were taking too long, so the South African boys came along. The French guy was...
jamie peacock: Landed the guys were loading So the African boy lands in front, rototips like fucking half a meter a apart, load, load, load, fucking go. like zero fucks given Like combat ready pilots. I got it. Our helicopter boys are fucking savages. I've flown with one of them a few times. it's yeah
Curt: Yeah, that's
jamie peacock: Savages.
Curt: That's definitely one of the videos I watch. Most of them are just like... some contraption that is supposed to take to the sky and just looks like it's ah just threatening everybody that's in its vicinity.
jamie peacock: Oh yeah, that's it.
jamie peacock: so
Curt: so
jamie peacock: I flew with my brother -in -law, ex -military pilot. You know you're doing it well in a helicopter when you're looking up at the trees.
Curt: Yeah. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Flying down a river valley. Oh look, a tree! Yeah.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: like if i can That was after he had the the brain tumor.
Curt: what do they What do they say about that? Like in a helicopter, it's like it's only a moment between when you're... up in the air looking at the scenery. too when you become the scenery looking up in the air and it's like
jamie peacock: yes
Curt: Because, yeah.
jamie peacock: Well, that big propeller is just to keep the pilots cool. Have you seen what happens when it turns off?
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: They're fucking sweating.
Curt: ah
jamie peacock: that
Curt: Yeah exactly. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Y 'all don't fucking, but y 'all, anyway. um
Curt: like
jamie peacock: Do you want to go first or must I go first on the last topics there?
Curt: level that stuff. uh you go first yours is probably more interesting so we will capture more uh More, I don't know, whatever.
jamie peacock: I doubt it.
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: I'm trying to buy a lathe.
Curt: Ooh. Okay. We'll kind this week.
jamie peacock: One second, and I'm gonna go find the listing. if FaceTube would be less useless.
Curt: Is this going to be a retrofit?
jamie peacock: um Yes. It is a.
Curt: Of course it is.
jamie peacock: Apparently he's potentially solved the fucking thing. I've been trying to get hold of this dickhead for...
Curt: Son of a bitch.
jamie peacock: Like three days. he He responded. And then I'm like, cool. Can I come see the machine? Here's my phone number. Like, I want to come see it. It's it's basically an 8L.
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: A Tomahawk ATL? but made by SIG.
Curt: Oh, okay.
jamie peacock: with a four -station turret on it.
Curt: Oh, okay.
jamie peacock: i wanted like a thousand five hundred dollars for it so i was like i'm like fuck i'm only gonna negotiate let me just go buy the fucking thing um
Curt: Sure, yeah
jamie peacock: Messaged him on Thursday, got a response Friday morning, responded. and have not heard a thing back. Yeah.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: And I'm like, that machine makes perfect sense if I buy it. But if someone else buys it and tries to have me retrofit, it makes no fucking sense.
Curt: Sure. Yeah fair.
jamie peacock: Yo. Manual truck, we're going to put a collared truck, but ah if it's sold, it's sold. It is what it is. The dickhead took too long to come back to me. I would have gone there then and there, loaded on my buggy and come home with it.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Um, But yeah, I see it's marked as pending. Um, Yeah, fucking do us. um i was happy to just like not even because he has the fucking money loaded let's go um
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: because i need another lathe but anyway now i'm gonna go to hg and buy one there instead
Curt: That's a grand idea. and then Figure out how to get it home.
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah, we'll figure that out. thats con That can't be that hard. I actually have all...
Curt: Can't be that hard
jamie peacock: I have all the parts for the X and Z stage of Elate. Of a gang life.
Curt: That's that's That's pretty much all of it. That's all you that's all you need.
jamie peacock: It's designed. I need ah i need a spindle. I just don't want to pull the lathe from scratch.
Curt: of Fair. I don't either I mean...
jamie peacock: Nah, it gets a bit of a bit of a fucking ball ache.
Curt: I do. If I could pause the world.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: and just build a lathe from scratch, I would love to do that.
jamie peacock: Ugh.
Curt: again but like Yeah, no.
jamie peacock: Again.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: So. You can buy the whole headstock assembly from China for not too much money.
Curt: Yeah, I don't. Yeah.
jamie peacock: I'm very, I'm tempted because i've I had to load 500 parts into the. uh into the slow wheel to slip them And if I can build a lathe that has a C -axis, I can fucking... do that in the lathe i don't care if it takes three times as long i don't have to touch it
Curt: Yeah. Fair.
jamie peacock: So I am kind of kind of tempted to build a really small fucking beastly little lathe but it's also a case of diminishing returns
Curt: give For certain. for certain.
jamie peacock: No. like is it actually worth the time
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: That's where retrofits. But you don't have to do any of the engineering. It's fucking done. You just have to put motors and controller. And that's like a fucking three day endeavor.
Curt: Yeah.
Curt: Yeah, exactly.
jamie peacock: Yep.
Curt: yeah it's
jamie peacock: If you know what you're doing, it literally takes three days and you're fucking done. Um,
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: bad job anyway
Curt: Takes you three days and you're done.
jamie peacock: it takes me three days and it's fun it's working I said it would be working, I didn't say it was fixed.
Curt: Yeah.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: That is actually on my bag for IMTS, my laptop bag, because that's going to become my daily driver bag.
Curt: Oh yeah.
jamie peacock: So when I go to site. I said it would...
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I said it would... working, I didn't say it was fixed
Curt: This is one of my Speaking of the stickers on my headset this is also one of my favorite stickers of ah Trust me, I built this shit myself.
jamie peacock: Nice. Yeah.
Curt: I was like, yeah.
jamie peacock: fucking one time.
Curt: A lot of it. Yeah.
jamie peacock: The amount of shit that I build and just fucking works, but... Yeah. it's not something you can sell because then someone else has to be smart
Curt: Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Like the shenanigans. I've got more and more into the macro programming side on Linux. so we now yeah adding a bunch of if statements into our code so that it won't bar pull on the last part
Curt: Mm.
jamie peacock: And jump.
Curt: Ooh, nice.
jamie peacock: like that's yeah so that's different depending on what this the count of the repeat cycle is
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: uh for our ball pulling maths yeah so i get just all these small little things that we're adding as we go and now that i'm not having to
Curt: Nice.
jamie peacock: run the lathes constantly i'm having time to okay let's implement this quickly let's add pauses where we need to be adding a bunch of statements that'll pause every 20 parts for you to check that the insert hasn't chipped or that The part's still good like as we're building out our processes.
Curt: Yeah.
Curt: Yeah, totally. Totally.
jamie peacock: Yeah, so... Fun times. um
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah, it's not having a call. that i just have to deal with many calls shut up but day -to -day he keeps up. control of.
Curt: That's nice. Because then, like you said, you can start doing that stuff.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: That actually makes a difference.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: In the long run, it makes a difference. yeah
jamie peacock: It makes a huge difference. I need to go thread. some fucking washer things today. Um... for a customer i need to go set up the lk quickly and do that while i assemble handy siemens
Curt: Hmm.
jamie peacock: um because then the little STEM things Carl can deal with this week while I'm away. it's fucking threading the end of a eight millimeter rod it's not fucking hard
Curt: Nice.
jamie peacock: He can do it on his life.
Curt: Nice.
jamie peacock: um But you're fucking trying to get. Trying to make sure everything is above board before we leave. Like I just told a customer this week, sorry, I can't help you for the next three weeks. But I'm like... the machine is busy for the next two weeks and after that i'm not here so sorry It's three to four weeks on these parts.
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: If you don't like it. Find someone else. No one wants to do it. That's why we're doing it. And that's why as I'm ripping the fucking ring on the press. uh it's like a little rivnut Tips. tus for Rivnut Gun.
Curt: Oh, okay, yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah, like va him they got lucky. i managed to turn around for them in a day and a half lost the first batch and then i made some extras and they took the extras and then they wanted more and i just cut extra material and i was running spares I was like, fuck it, they won four. I'm just going to make an extra ten for the shelf. Then they wanted M4, not M6. So I reworked the M6 to M4s.
jamie peacock: and turned that whole job around in a day. And then they were expecting that again. And I'm like, no, no, guys, you got very lucky twice.
Curt: Yeah, yeah Yeah. yeah
jamie peacock: The machine is now set up for production. It's running 5000 parts before your shit goes in my machine.
Curt: You're right. Yeah, yeah, totally.
jamie peacock: like Sorry. Yeah. So... Cash flow follow -up
Curt: Yeah. Oh, yeah, I wanted to follow because we were talking about um cash and I actually had a lot of people reach out and they said, hey, thanks for actually giving us like numbers. It's nice to hear that. And I know I did say AJ on the last podcast.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: did that I mean, like AJ from from the other podcast from our. our rival podcast that we fight with continuously.
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: Um, taps and patience i think it's called Um,
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: Anyways. anyways AJ routine.
jamie peacock: you I was gonna say you can find them at nautical workholding but you can't
Curt: Yeah. AJ routinely talks about like he he publishes a lot of his like data on like actual budget stuff.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: And I appreciate that because that's it's nice to like. Here's somebody else speaking about that. And anyways, a lot of people said the same thing about us, um which is kind of cool. um But I also wanted to say that a lot of people message me and say, hey, like I'm doing I'm doing like a full time gig and I would I would like to like. I'm doing part -time. my business and I would like to make the jump and.
Curt: No, like I basically... they're like you're like you're making like that's a good amount of money and like i'm not making anywhere close to that and i'm like So I just replied back to a few of them. I was like, the hardest. time for like i don't know if it was the same for for jspec but for me was having a full -time job and trying to do this.
Curt: It was just like.
jamie peacock: Yep.
Curt: You suck at both of them. And it's just like and you have no time.
jamie peacock: on yeah
Curt: And you suck at both.
jamie peacock: I never did that, I got lucky
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: Um, When I left or when I left where I was working
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I was planning on resigning a month later than I did Um, Danica was getting recontracted and... I'd had enough and I was sticking it out because we needed to pay bills. she got re -contracted and could cover our bills and she did for the first like I think, year and a half of JSpec.
jamie peacock: She covered all of our expenses.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: J -Spec. The only requirement for J -Spec was that it didn't cost her money every month. That was the only requirement.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: So I would come in, I'd potter around, do what the fuck I wanted to do. Um... I spent a year and a half fucking around and figuring out what I enjoyed doing. and then she got retrenched and in the span of two months i went from fucking around to we are now profitable and paying our bills from jspec and have been for the last six years.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: So...
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah, i didn't I didn't do both. i I registered the company when I still worked at my previous. place But then I was working after hours to build the machine. to build the slowio so that i could leave
Curt: Right.
jamie peacock: but i wasn't invoicing anybody for that like there wasn't Yeah, I wasn't running two jobs. I was prepping to be able to... to go fuck around.
Curt: Yeah, and i'm like I think we kind of...
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: both did in this in the same regard like had had a way like same thing my wife could basically support us while like my first year yeah i made money i think i made I don't know, like.
Curt: 40 or 45 ,000. um like in my first year that i started and i think my expenses were like Uh, It worked out that when I like when i did the tax.
Curt: monies, which... sure is it accurate i don't know but like i made like 17 dollars like for the years like what i what i came like i after all my expenses after like and i can expense a lot living or working from home you kind of get a lot of benefits there but yeah like i made like enough to maybe buy myself like a hamburger and like so like
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: yeah the first year was like just like level but i was also like i was building a garage and i was putting electrical in here and i was buying machines and like so yeah it was different but Yeah, it's just like...
jamie peacock: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah, as I like the first The first two years...
Curt: as Funny.
jamie peacock: we didn't turn a profit like when i started i got paid out when I left. that money went straight into getting the the workshop ready to go. That money got eaten very quickly. Um,
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: and buy some tooling and stuff so that i could actually start doing useful stuff and then i started Picking up work slowly and steadily. and yeah By the time I needed to be profitable, I had a product line ready to go.
Curt: Right. Yeah, totally.
jamie peacock: And that that carried us a bit.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: and I picked up a few customers by that point. So I had semi -recurring work from them. So yeah, I do. it was a different different story it was the way i would do it again but uh It let me figure out what I enjoyed doing.
jamie peacock: because enjoying what you do is kind of important.
Curt: Oh. Huge, massively important.
jamie peacock: Yep.
Curt: Yeah. yeah
jamie peacock: Like now I'm getting, with having Colin on board, I get to spend more time working on product development. and new products and refining the processes.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: because i'm not super stressed about covering the bills every month on the mill uh we've got the lathes to do that
Curt: Totally. Yeah.
jamie peacock: So let's...
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: like yeah we might just tell the cost one customer Keep this one part number. Please don't send it to us again. because now you've returned 1 ,500 parts that need to be deburred. the seven and a half thousand we've delivered already didn't need to be deburred why do these need to be deburred Like what the fuck?
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Like what?
Curt: Yeah fair.
jamie peacock: Fuck it. Pick a fucking lane. So it's a Monday morning problem And then, yeah, I think we might just debug them and say. Here's the order, please order them elsewhere now.
jamie peacock: It's not worth running.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Because we're running them at a super low rate.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Um, it's not actually worth running them. If we're going to have to put any manual labor in, it's not worth running them.
Curt: Yeah.
Curt: Yeah. Well, that's...
jamie peacock: So, yeah.
Curt: That's what happens with time too, right?
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Like you start getting the flexibility or you start gaining the ability to be like, I'm not doing this bullshit. work because i don't need it and yeah
jamie peacock: because otherwise I now need to throw another boring ball into the mix. I need to then drill the thing, then go in and backside chamfer and then part off.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: But now we adding Sockletomb.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: And Complexity Aga don't want to fucking deal with it.
Curt: Yeah. Yeah totally.
jamie peacock: No. yeah that's probably not the worst idea but i don't want to I know that they weren't deburred from the previous supplier either.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: So why do we now all of a sudden have to deburr these fucking things? So, I don't know. I will... ah That's a Monday problem.
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: Gonna go burn shit down and then fuck off overseas.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I guarantee there's going to be dumb shit that goes down now while I'm away. like they delivered material to us yesterday. They delivered. Maybe 50 lengths of material?
jamie peacock: I'm like, guys. That is one day's production. Are you delivering material every fucking day to us? Like, what is your plan here? We are going to be out of we're going to have our machines standing waiting and for material. for them.
jamie peacock: which is a little bit infuriating but Is what it is. They don't want to deliver all the material. They're worried we're going to steal it. Which we definitely are, but not the point.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: no we've actually got our cutting list that it's it's to the point that we'd rather run a half -meter ball than a 700 bar because our remnants are shorter. It's a 20mm remnant, not a 60mm remnant.
Curt: Right. Yeah. Yep.
jamie peacock: And I want to have as few cuts as possible, preferably out of the bar, because I'm paying Simon to cut the fucking thing. So... Yeah, it's a bit of a... although if we cut one meter lengths for the good way we get half meter off cuts for the mco So it kind of shakes out.
Curt: Hmm.
jamie peacock: So yeah, we'll see.
Curt: Fair. Yeah, fair.
jamie peacock: We'll see what what happens there. But y 'all anyway. Uh... What is in your Google box?
Curt: Cool. ah My Google box is... ah School shit, I said. i just My... I was the first day of kindergarten on. Friday.
Curt: So. Yeah, it was. cried great big tears actually didn't I didn't.
jamie peacock: yes
Curt: quite cry i cried a little bit Anyways, um lots of school shit. And then I had like. all my animals We're going to vets and like this whole week I had like I had. Fifty - 30 of the time in the shop everything else was just family stuff which is Good.
Curt: Um, Um, Looking up vacuums because I need a new vacuum and I came across I think it's called the rainbow vacuum So cool. It is so expensive. it just it uses like a water filtration so it just it's cool that it got me because it's f freaking Neat.
jamie peacock: I lost. Yeah.
Curt: Um, Drone shit because now I'm just hardcore into that right now. And ah buy a donkey because I actually wanted to know what the... Afrikaans word was.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Buy a donkey.
Curt: That sounds...
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: but But yeah, so I get it.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: How about you?
jamie peacock: um
Curt: What's in your box of Google?
jamie peacock: There's... my boxing rules full of interesting things but yeah speaking of afrikaans things there's a shock um youtube channel
Curt: Mm.
jamie peacock: shark butts and he can't pronounce conspire It's Gans Bay.
Curt: I can't either.
jamie peacock: I'm like, fuck! Raging. I'm like, it's Hans Bay.
Curt: say
jamie peacock: Come now. Like, it's not fucking hard.
Curt: okay
jamie peacock: uh yeah there's a yeah it's interesting like a lot of words Yeah, they read with a very Afrikaans accent.
Curt: Hmm.
jamie peacock: End. Yeah, I don't know. I'm in South Africa. I did Afrikaans for 10 years at school. Still can't speak it, but I did it for 10 years and I passed. Um, Anyway. Yeah, my Google box. Kenya Airways seat map.
jamie peacock: for the uh planes turns out i'm actually on a 787 for both legs i thought it was going to be a 737 and a 787 but yeah 787s for both legs
Curt: Cool.
jamie peacock: uh which are nice one of my favorite planes to go on other than the fact that they catch fire. um
Curt: Jules!
jamie peacock: looking at macbooks because gonna go and fondle some macbooks when i'm in the us Easton's running Fusion on a Mac, so is Jacob. so i'm gonna go ahead and see i might just uh Go to the dark side.
jamie peacock: while i'm there uh looking up the er11 bbt 30s from mori tool because i needed a cad model Checking when Taste of Chicago was, because last time it was the week before IMTS or of IMTS. So the bus routes were all fucking retarded.
jamie peacock: um It is not. It was in July this year. Looking up a 220k resistor because... A neighbor's kid needed a resistant, and I'm like, fuck it. I think this is 220 ohm.
jamie peacock: So I gave him 200k resistors. looking for Osmo Nano, because I'm going to probably go to Micro Center and just buy one. when I'm in the US. And then...
Curt: cool
jamie peacock: A 3D printed chip fan.
Curt: Oh cool. Nice.
jamie peacock: It runs at 12 ,000 RPM and doesn't explode.
Curt: Is it just like just like a fan blade? like a
jamie peacock: ah Yeah, PTG, it's... Chip fan that was on... Uh... Printables? it's got a hole through the middle and and you drive a screw up the middle
Curt: Oh, okay.
jamie peacock: so that it doesn't explode.
Curt: Oh, cool. Okay.
jamie peacock: um And then I was putting the tool holder and yeah. Yeah, that fucking does the chip fan things.
Curt: Cool. Nice Yeah.
jamie peacock: No. Doesn't fit in any of my racks because my racks are too close together. So I need to make some wider spaced racks for on top of the machine for the bigger tools. Um,
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I'll do that next time I don't order for steel parts, I'll just order some. Some wrecks with luck. 100mm spacing for the bigger stuff like the slitting saw and that and yeah there's a few tools that are like the grippers as well they don't quite fit in the rack properly.
Curt: Cool, cool.
jamie peacock: Bye, ciao. but yeah that's uh or in the Gogglebox. What is, uh...
Curt: Sweet.
jamie peacock: Where can people find usual things? You'd swear it was late in the day, yeah?
Curt: Uh... Sorry, what?
jamie peacock: You'd swear it was later in the day with how I'm yawning.
Curt: Yeah, no doubt it's nice It's bright and early for you.
jamie peacock: No.
Curt: um you
jamie peacock: Oh, fuck.
Curt: Find me in my machine. I mean my machine. You can find me and my machines.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: ah You can find me and my things at confoundedmachine .com, which...
jamie peacock: um
Curt: Points to everything. If you sign up under... Literally anywhere, I'll keep... uh i'm gonna cross ja Jacob gave me shit for this because I have two lists on my site. I have a contact list.
Curt: Which lets me email people and then I have a lottery list And they don't talk to each other. So just. Every like month or so, I just go through. like each a list and just Combine them. So that it all works out.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Anyways. Sign up to any list and you'll eventually get emails about this presale that I'll be doing at the end of September. assuming things keep going the way they're going. And yeah. Or just... click on the media links and go buy weird shirts that we sell as well.
Curt: No.
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: i don't I don't do it, but someone makes shirts for us and they get sent to people.
jamie peacock: We have a whole bunch.
Curt: and We got to cut out of it.
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: So how about you?
jamie peacock: That's exactly it.
Curt: Where can people find your shit?
jamie peacock: Um, Yeah, you can find it on jspecng .com, which is going to get revamped at some point. There's a link to Nautical Workholding on the homepage. There's a link to my Instagram and there's a link to the...
jamie peacock: online store for the shirts. and then somewhere on there's also a link to the podcast um yeah that site is in dire need of a rebuild it is uh we've hosted like four or five other things through there so it's super convoluted so it's getting a rebuild at some point But anyway, yeah, jspeceng .com, you can find all the things.
jamie peacock: uh links to nautical work holding and links to my instagram and boom
Curt: Cool.
jamie peacock: Ciao. All that fun stuff. If you're not following the Instagram, go follow the Instagram because I'll be posting on there while I'm in Chicago.
Curt: cool cool cool and I think I will
jamie peacock: In all likelihood, there will be pictures of her witty.
Curt: i want I want one.
jamie peacock: yes
Curt: I think ah you can still go there by tapsandpatients .com, but I think I will point tapsandpatients .com to probably the Taps and Patients YouTube. because they hand it over.
jamie peacock: Probably a good idea.
Curt: Yeah, they hand it over here.
jamie peacock: Well, yeah, they've given us Cody Codes, but yeah, I haven't had enough of Shep.
Curt: yeah well and i'll i'll just point it for them and then i'll just i'll hand over the uh the domain so they can do what they want with it.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Yep. 100%.
Curt: they don't have They don't have a fancy podcast website like we do, but we're pretty big time.
jamie peacock: yeah we got a liney website they had a really fancy website and then that went away
Curt: so Did they? You let it lapse?
jamie peacock: Yeah, they... No, so no one was using it. It was on a, it was a Wiki, it was a Wiki web website.
Curt: Oh yeah. Err.
jamie peacock: that had the transcripts of every episode yeah and you could search it
Curt: Right. I remember that. Right. Yeah!
jamie peacock: as Speaking of...
Curt: Yeah, that was sick. I like that.
jamie peacock: Have you seen the With Intolerance one?
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: They've now got a bot.
Curt: No.
jamie peacock: Yeah, they got it so the last episode of the Zap?
Curt: Oh!
jamie peacock: they were talking about they've now got a bot that you can ask a question and it will
Curt: Yep.
Curt: Oh.
jamie peacock: It is contextually aware of all the transcripts of all the episodes.
Curt: Okay, I wonder I gotta ask what they're using because I tried to do that with ours but no AI. Unless maybe I could use like notebook notebook LM would probably do it
jamie peacock: ah They are paying... for per search so they limited it to like 10 questions per discord user so it's a discord bot
Curt: Okay, because I know a lot of the AIs won't.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: It's not good enough to like go through like. how much, like how much data mean you have even.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: It just, it's. so much that it it can't catch catch it all.
jamie peacock: Apparently they've got it they've got it working, apparently.
Curt: Sick, okay.
jamie peacock: So I actually joined their Patreon because I want to get on their Discord. um
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: so i can go play with it but i just haven't got around to it
Curt: oh Okay I'm gonna have to Fuck those guys.
jamie peacock: No.
Curt: Because I wanted to do it in -house, just... so i could search our podcast um and it just it it didn't work out i'd be like i would talk about something that I knew we talked about in like episode 10 and it would just fail.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Well...
Curt: So I was like, hmm.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Um... Oh, if you're coming on Wednesday. I know that. that Dylan will be at the Kern booth at 3 o 'clock.
Curt: It is true. That is true.
jamie peacock: Speaking of, there's a mean, well. Yeah, this will still be up before. Speaking of, meetups at IMTS. There's the Loan Machinist Meetup at 2 p .m. on at the G28 booth on Monday. There's the Taps and Patients Meetup at 2 p .m.
jamie peacock: At the Tormach booth on Tuesday, and there is the instant machinist with intolerance meetup at 3pm. at the Kern booth on Wednesday. just so that everyone knows when everyone's meetup is. But yeah, I look forward to seeing people there.
jamie peacock: I know some of our listeners are going to be there. Should be quite fun.
Curt: That's cool. That's so cool.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Yeah, it's going to be a blast. But anyway, thank you. owe it ah What are you up to today? i'm busy doing outros without doing things
Curt: Us. Yeah, ah today I'm...
jamie peacock: Ugh! Danny could just fill their car with fuel.
Curt: Whoa.
jamie peacock: and now I'm sad.
Curt: oh you got the bill it's like what was that sound there's more leaking from the back door
jamie peacock: Yeah. Yeah.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yes. after she filled her car. got reamed
Curt: Ha ha. hu ah um Today, yeah.
jamie peacock: It's only like $120.
Curt: That's up there. yeah that's up there
jamie peacock: Uh, yeah, that was for... probably three quarters of a tank.
Curt: Yeah, that's a big... Big machine. You gotta to get like a... Tiny little, like... Golf cart or something.
jamie peacock: Driving to Pret and back is going to be like $500 in fuel. Yeah, it's gonna be rough. Anyway, what do you have to do today?
Curt: Uh... Sorry. I'm going to. Go to sleep. That's it. And then tomorrow I'm...
jamie peacock: thus
Curt: Oh, tomorrow I'm just going to go... Do some family stuff. and Yeah. chill out enjoy the day and then it's a holiday i think on monday and I think then it's, I don't know.
jamie peacock: Yes, it's Labor Day on Monday I think.
Curt: There's so much. Yeah. so yeah so i won't be doing anything for a long time um how about you what are you up to today
jamie peacock: I'm gonna go and... Machined some threaded M6 washers. assemble some handy siemens Uh... I need to finish laser engraving chart. onto an anchor point i need to finish laser engraving a bunch of knobs
Curt: Hmm.
jamie peacock: that are all now anodized. um yeah i got a busy busy fucking day all over our i actually want to start packing my clothes and shirts so i can see what's missing because I'm fairly certain. Two pairs of my pants are not.
jamie peacock: where they're supposed to be. So I just want to get ahead of all of that shit. so that I'm not trying to pack on Monday afternoon when I'm flying out on Monday afternoon.
jamie peacock: as one does.
Curt: Most. train enthusiastic thing i've ever said my pants i have two pairs of pants and the pants aren't where the pants should be and they're missing well
jamie peacock: No, I have three pairs of pants that I bought for IMTS last time. They're really nice stretchy jeans. They're super comfy.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: I've worn one pair of them. over the last year because i can only find one fucking pair at a time
Curt: it Mm.
jamie peacock: I don't wear long, long pants. Like I have them for IMTS. So I need to find where the other pairs are so that I have enough pairs of pants for IMTS. Although I'm probably just going to go in shorts. but not the point.
Curt: Fair. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah, cuz it's gonna be hot as fuck fuckk in chicago like to the point that bridges don't close
Curt: Well, I don't know.
jamie peacock: I don't know if you saw that this week.
Curt: September won't be that one. and be that hard.
jamie peacock: I love you. Currently, it is that hot that the bridge, the drawbridge. wouldn't close because it had expanded
Curt: Oh, really? Holy no, I didn't know that.
jamie peacock: Yeah. This week.
Curt: Sorry. I didn't know that.
jamie peacock: This week, literally they had a tugboat or a firefighting boat blasting water on it to shrink the bridge so it would close.
Curt: wow wild okay i had no idea
jamie peacock: It's hot as balls in the US at the moment
Curt: Oh, sick. Okay, I'm living under a rock.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: Yeah. no i was chatting to the guys i was like oh it's like 33 degrees in the shop i'm like ah fuck that chip Barely gets that hot chair.
Curt: Cool. That's warm. That's getting up there.
jamie peacock: Yeah. No, it's been brutally hot. in the US lately.
Curt: Okay, well, stay cool, friends.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Okay. should be fun Anyway, thank you everybody for listening to us ramble about random shit. If you enjoyed the podcast, please consider liking, subscribing, all those fun things.
Curt: Huh.
jamie peacock: or sharing with people that you think will enjoy the podcast. And, yeah, we will see you guys next week when I'm in the UZ.
Curt: the flesh.
jamie peacock: Yeah, fuck.
Curt: ah
jamie peacock: It's gonna be interesting. um ylllthough I'll have met a bunch of you guys that listen.
Curt: Heh.
jamie peacock: um in person before we even record.
jamie peacock: Yeah, I looked really weird.
Curt: Very weird.
jamie peacock: it's gonna be creepy um but yeah anyway thanks guys and i'll see you next week
Curt: ah
Curt: Take care.
