jamie peacock: Welcome to The Learning Machine, where it's just you, the work, and the machine. What have you got going on today, Kurt?
Curt: ah This week I'm going to talk about blowing up drills. Yak shaving and mist filter, quality air.
jamie peacock: Ooh.
Curt: readings that I... Talk. Yeah. How about you?
jamie peacock: Fancy.
Curt: I'm out.
jamie peacock: Um... We're going to talk about running pots through the knots. Finally got home assistance set up on the LK again and... label printers. because uh i want one but i have one but i want one anyway Anyway, how are you this fine day Kurt?
Curt: ah I'm doing pretty good. doing Yeah, I don't know. nothing ah Nothing out of the ordinary. How are you doing?
jamie peacock: just uh Yeah, I'm going to go to work to - Took yesterday off for the most part.
Curt: Heh.
jamie peacock: um
Curt: Mm.
jamie peacock: I went to try and pick up my ceiling boards that were meant to be ready and they weren't. Um... So I was going to go to the workshop, drop them off, and then go back in the evening. And then my neighbor was like, come have a beer. So I went and had a beer and took the day off instead.
Curt: That sounds pretty decent. That sounds a good Friday. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Well, yeah, considering the week I've had, yes. Knock.
Curt: Oh, yeah?
jamie peacock: I've been hanging out a lot on the Taps and Patients Discord. I got home on Saturday morning at half past one. I literally hung up on Discord when I pulled into my driveway. I'd been chatting to the guys all evening.
jamie peacock: and yeah we're having a very good discussion and i'm like okay guys i'm home now peace out
Curt: I...
jamie peacock: So, yeah.
Curt: I guess that's the advantage because I see like your knight. would be yeah that would work out pretty good for
jamie peacock: Well, it was to like the day before they were literally like okay we need to go off and make dinner now It was 3am.
Curt: Right. Right, right. That's that's awesome.
jamie peacock: Yup.
Curt: Heh.
jamie peacock: So yeah, we we've had a bit of a... But an interesting week. We've got Cole back on Thursday. And then, uh...
Curt: Oh, good.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Then I'm trying to think Wednesday night. So Wednesday. I work the day. I came home. we went oh i went straight to quiz i'd like literally parked that quiz at seven because I'd been running, I was making fixtures.
jamie peacock: I did the whole quiz thing, then I fucked off back to work afterwards at Hoppus 9. and came home at quarter to four in the morning.
Curt: Ho ho ho.
jamie peacock: and then went to work at seven.
Curt: Whoa. Oh. oh
jamie peacock: because I needed to be there because Carl and Simon were there. So I went in. did what I needed to do, left there about lunchtime, came home, slept for the afternoon. Went back at 9 o 'clock again. Work till half past three that the following morning came home I went in in the morning because I have to go in in the morning because people are need like customers are needy little bitches.
jamie peacock: um Went in, did admin stuff, potted around, came back at lunchtime, slept until six.
Curt: Shit. Sure. sure
jamie peacock: Wins. Back again and got home on Saturday morning at half past one. But I had to do it. to keep the machine at temperature so we're trying to machine these plates at the temperature they're going to be used at because they've got a I don't actually have a drawing with positional tolerance, but they want it as accurate as it can be.
jamie peacock: so in order to do that it's over as this holes are over the entire travel of the machine so over 700 millimeters
Curt: Oh, okay. Yeah.
jamie peacock: If you've got a couple degrees of temperature swing. Your whole position's out, Balak. 20, 30 microns already. Good luck. for two degrees. So we did it all. We kept it within a degree.
Curt: that's awesome I know I saw your hijinks on Instagram, like ice in your coolant and.
jamie peacock: Literally, I needed it to drop like three degrees because...
Curt: Probes everywhere.
jamie peacock: I wanted it to be at 22. and then i was managing the temperature in the shop with the roller door and having a breeze roll through. And then as the temperature starts dropping, it starts...
Curt: Oh.
jamie peacock: lowering the roller door so that there's a less Of the cold air. I got a fucking ball ache. i've got to finish those plates this morning i've got to just go and um I just want to skim the fixture again because we are bolted. There's a little bit of a...
jamie peacock: a lift from the edge of the threads so i'm just going to skim the fixture They're going upside down and they're going to machine a pocket. but the only critical dimension is the thickness And if I do that at 30 degrees, it's not going to make a difference.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: The material is 11 millimeters thick. not a meter long so
Curt: Right. Right, yeah, yeah, your growth is...
jamie peacock: Won't make a difference.
Curt: yeah Right, right.
jamie peacock: Yeah, so I want to go finish those plates today and then I... Yeah. We found the exact limit. of what will fit in my machine.
Curt: I... They looked huge. They look giant.
jamie peacock: Yeah, those plates didn't fit.
Curt: Really?
jamie peacock: The door's not... So if if I was doing a one foot wide part... the door is big enough you can stick it out the door But because I'm doing a 400 watt part. the door frame is in the way and i'm like i haven't paid me enough to cut a hole in my machine So...
Curt: Happy.
jamie peacock: I discovered this at like midnight on Wednesday.
Curt: Yeah.
Curt: Mm -hmm.
jamie peacock: after machining the first plate and wanting to move it over and do the next stop. And I'm like, well, shit. So on Thursday morning, I spoke to the designer. I'm like, listen, this is the story. um Yeah, I know. Probably not. Thursday. Thursday morning. Well, Thursday not.
jamie peacock: Alright, this is the story. we're gonna have to cut the ends off and make these other holes separate plates um So we discussed it. He's like, yeah, that's fine. well We can do that. So then I slotted off about that much aluminum off each side and then it fits it.
Curt: Okay, well.
jamie peacock: Just. The answer is 960mm is the longest part I can machine both sides of in my machine.
Curt: Oh, wow. Okay.
jamie peacock: By shifting it over.
Curt: Yeah, that's nice.
jamie peacock: I... And then...
Curt: Mm hmm.
jamie peacock: about five miles from the door.
Curt: from the
jamie peacock: on either side of the table
Curt: All right, Kate, you're shifting ah forward, backward.
jamie peacock: So... Yeah. Shifting the drop either side, yeah. um If I shift to either side, I can do 980.
Curt: god i Gotcha. Gotcha. Gotcha.
jamie peacock: is roughly where it lands. So yeah we figured this out the hard way. uh but yeah those plates are now the critical stuff's done the next thing is the rails and yeah so i'm going to go in today do those pockets then i'm going to pull the fixture off the machine
Curt: Ugh.
jamie peacock: put in the phone choices i've got 30 pieces of material that needs to be machined and they're like 20 minutes each. For a different customer,
Curt: No, okay.
jamie peacock: but it's
Curt: No.
jamie peacock: walk away time so i'm just going to set that up and run it while i program another stuff like i got revisions on the rails On Friday. the the next part that needs to go and i got revisions of it on friday
Curt: no
jamie peacock: So yeah, a little bit. a little bit annoying to deal with but We're making do.
Curt: Huh. well did you get did you get measurements on that whole position yet or you just like Hoping.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
jamie peacock: They can't measure it.
Curt: and
jamie peacock: we'll know if it works when they do the full assembly so we're trying to keep it as accurate as we can Um,
Curt: Gotcha.
jamie peacock: That LK is just straight up full of magic. So boring all these holes is a 47 minute cycle. to do the final boring to size. to interpolate all the holes.
Curt: Holt. front.
jamie peacock: Yes. Because, we again, shooting for accuracy.
Curt: Sure.
jamie peacock: So the first plate. Ah. Did all the holes. Well, I did the first. the first of the holes mark the size i'd call the tool to be comma one bigger So to cut the whole comma one smaller.
jamie peacock: Marked it?
Curt: Mm hmm.
jamie peacock: fucking dead on then i let them run right through Making everything comma one smaller. That way, when I came to do the finish pass, it was a consistent amount of material left. Then I ran the a contest.
Curt: Mm -hmm.
jamie peacock: Went, conned it out, ran it again. and fucking dead nuts where i wanted it like between 10 and 15 microns under When I ran the second place, I just fucking YOLO sent it.
jamie peacock: Fucking dead nuts. through six arms.
Curt: Oh nice.
jamie peacock: Fuck him. dead nuts, exactly 10 to 15 microns. under the nominal size.
Curt: Nice.
jamie peacock: that Okay, it's full of magic.
Curt: That's just...
jamie peacock: Like, it's it's fucking stupid.
Curt: That's awesome. That's that's good.
jamie peacock: Yeah. But I went through and calibrated all my... all my ball marks, all my marks, so that when I measure it, I... with a high degree of confidence had correct measurements.
Curt: Oh okay. Okay, yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah, cuz like I've got it.
Curt: there
jamie peacock: I've got a 12 millimeter gauge ring to set there I've got a 16 gauge ring to set the... the other one like i've got Gage rings to set all these things.
Curt: Right.
jamie peacock: So I was going through and just calibrating everything before I started But currently I have no tool setter on the machine because... the fixture is bigger than the travels.
Curt: Right. right
jamie peacock: So I'm using all the tools that are preset up and
Curt: ah
jamie peacock: If it's not preset up, we don't use it.
Curt: I guess, yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: But yeah, it's about a fly cutter. so that Sorry, that was Wednesday night. It was fly cutting these plates. to get the bottom of the plate flat. End. Fucking banana plates.
jamie peacock: i had to take 0 .6 of a millimeter off of the one plate to get it to be flat.
Curt: Ooh, that's enough. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: That's enough.
jamie peacock: at point two. Purpose. and each pass took an hour because it's a fly cutter doing 500 rpm in a 30 taper Like you can't go any faster And I was roughing at 0 .6 feet per tooth and then finishing at 0 .2.
jamie peacock: So it was like 15 minutes to rough and then an hour to do the finishing pass.
Curt: Yeah, I guess. Are you just...
jamie peacock: And then still. shift the plate over and do the other piece of it.
Curt: Why only 500 RPM? Or is that just you're just blowing SFM?
jamie peacock: ah machine starts vibrating if you go any higher.
Curt: Oh, okay. Okay.
jamie peacock: It was 170 diameter.
Curt: Okay, I get i mean...
jamie peacock: The flankaya. No, it's a 16mm lathe tool sticking all the way out of the fucking of fly cutter.
Curt: Okay. Okay, fair enough.
jamie peacock: Yeah, it was a little savage. I named it Tool 666. Because the fucking devil got them. You're not free. like that literally took me six hours to flat these two plates
Curt: Wow. I wonder if it would have been faster just like half. like a half -inch endmill and just... Rock and roll.
jamie peacock: I can't reach. I needed the 170 diameter to clear the end.
Curt: Oh. Shit. Okay, gotcha. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah, which wouldn't be an issue
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: It won't be an issue going forward because... we now know that 980 is the maximum travel then i can move i can hit everywhere with a half a general
Curt: Right, right, right, okay. Okay, this is it.
jamie peacock: Yeah. So.
Curt: Adds up. Okay. like
jamie peacock: Fucking stupid, but yeah.
Curt: Hmph. but
jamie peacock: Anyway. e ah I got that done now, so I'll go finish that up this morning, and then... set up and run water flingers for the mines. Got an order for those.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: The guy's like, when can we have them? like Spends when the material arrives. Order the material. It'll arrive on Friday. So I was meant to start running it yesterday and I just couldn't. so today. we will run material.
Curt: Nice.
jamie peacock: du That's a fun one.
Curt: nice
jamie peacock: I've got a corner radius cutter for it. it used to take me 10 minutes to surface a radius Now I've got a corner radius cut out. 30 seconds done.
Curt: Yeah, that's the way yeah yeah
jamie peacock: Peace out. It's a recurring job, I'm willing to tool up for it.
Curt: Totally. Yeah, especially on the sun.
jamie peacock: ah john Now norman Norman's a bad influence and says I must use my new tool setter artifact when I calibrate my tool setter. Then I have to touch off every single tool again.
Curt: ah Yeah, yeah, but... Like I said, load the carousel up, let it run. unload, load it up, let it run.
jamie peacock: yeah Do it once and just fucking suck it up and yeah it'll be fine.
Curt: Yeah, 100%.
jamie peacock: Yeah, I think I will do that
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: against my will today. And then as I go, I'll just set tools up. I may also test the Frasier end mill that I have on this job.
Curt: Oh, okay.
jamie peacock: Yes, the feeds and speeds that are all given forward to whatever the fuck you're currently running. Try this. and see what happens like i'm like okay cool We'll give it a bash. Um,
jamie peacock: But yeah, we'll we'll see. I've got a lot of material to remove on those.
Curt: I haven't heard too many people that are upset with those.
jamie peacock: So lots of...
Curt: so Probably spreadsheet you well.
jamie peacock: If your workholding can handle it.
Curt: No.
jamie peacock: They fucking magic.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: So I'm curious to see how it goes. It's a long reach ASXPF. whatever it's called.
Curt: and Okay, yeah, yeah. yeah
jamie peacock: Yeah, I got it at IMTS. Joel tried to find me. It took him half a day to find me.
Curt: Aww. Nice.
jamie peacock: Yeah. He had one in his claw. Because I'm like, do you have any samples? Like, I want to give this thing a test. But I'm in sunny South Africa. He's like, wait, I'll make a plan. So he made a plan for me.
Curt: Cool.
jamie peacock: No. Anyway. um I kind of want to know what yak shaving is.
Curt: Yeah, okay. yeah Yak shaving is just like... so many side quests that eventually you're at a point where you're shaving a yak and you're like wait how did i get here So you need it.
jamie peacock: us
Curt: Side quest A, side quest B, side quest C, side quest C, down the line until you're just like, what the fuck is going on? And I even... forgot exactly why i put yak shaving on here but i think it was uh this the start of my week i was just like okay i'm like i have to start running the lathe like it's Because I had all the material. I'm like, I got to run this job. Okay.
Curt: But great. So I'm like, oh, you know what? To finish the lathe, I really... i have the mist filter collected so i have to finish connecting the mist filter okay that's fine I can finish that.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: I'm like, okay, well, to connect the mist filter, I really... kind of should probably fix the back end of the lathe because i had a chloroplast backer on it temporary solution of course like that i put there like two years ago yeah exactly disgusting looking now because it's covered in like oil and it's starting to like shift and move because the oil reacts to it so i'm like
jamie peacock: Permanent temporary, huh? Mm -hmm.
Curt: Well, I should probably take it. So anyways, so I take all those pieces out to my backyard and throw them away. I'm like, well, like, and and I'm doing this. So I got done out of acrylic. I'm like, well, now that it's done out of acrylic, I need to, I need to frame out this thing so I could. where the headstock comes out i put kind of a hole so then i was like well i need some way i can block this hole conveniently so i'm like i have to 3d print a cover for it and it's like down the list all the way to the point where i'm like what am i doing like i All right.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: I have to do it all, but it's just like And I... Could I have pushed it off? Of course, yeah. There's something but like it just... You get to the point where you're just like, I'm so far into it, I have to finish it now. So.
jamie peacock: Oh, that's funny.
Curt: Let's.
jamie peacock: as fuck
Curt: I just yeah felt like I was just like, well, like what?
jamie peacock: a
Curt: is going on, but now it's how I'm happy. like the backers and i can see better i have a magnetic cover so that um Because sometimes I have to slide the headstock out to clean it. or like the draw tube. So I have to have enough room to slide the draw tube out and I have nice magnetic cover. So now when the. mist collectors on it's sealed so it's not like a gaping like whatever, head -sized hole in the back of the cover.
Curt: Um, And it just, yeah, it makes my life so, it's one of those things where it's like, I should have done this two years ago. It's like now, cause it's. it's it's a non -issue now it's not like a warpy piece of disgustingness that i'm just like And even going back there now, like into little no man's land behind the lathe when I do have to go back there.
Curt: I feel like it's a better machine because it doesn't look like a bag of ass with like a bunch of chloroplasts all... and tape and like just a temporary like it looks nice so i'm like oh I feel like this looks...
Curt: proper now and i feel like i do better work when things look nicer which I don't know if it's true or not, but it makes my brain work better. so
jamie peacock: It makes your brain happy.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Okay, now I forget getting side -quested properly there.
Curt: Yeah. like
Curt: oh like it was yeah it was i think there was more as the podcast goes i'll try to remember why exactly i wrote the yak shaving but that was definitely one of the examples where i'm just like this is so much
jamie peacock: I... on... On Friday, Friday morning. I went instance into the shop and I'm like... Not a chance am I doing anything that requires a lot of brain power right now. I ended up pulling wire like climbing up a ladder and pulling electrical because...
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: It was lower brain power than doing CAD work. I'm like, no, my brain's cooked. Let me just do the simple shit. And I just potted around and did simple shit. It needed to get done, but Yeah. was side questing hard.
jamie peacock: I now have a ladder that can reach. to where my cables are run in the workshop.
Curt: Oh, convenient. That helps. Yeah, yeah.
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: It does. So I'm in the process of getting all the wires. Cole's actually working this morning. So i can't i like I need to go in and just switch the power off and connect up a bunch of cables and stuff. But I can't do that because we're working.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: because i need to run power up to the uh to the office so the office is going on a smart switch so that i can turn it off
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: When I leave automatically so that the aircon doesn't just run
Curt: Okay. Okay. Fair enough. Fair.
jamie peacock: Because ah I know my wife. And I know that that thing will never get switched off.
Curt: Okay, and since I know me and you, ah the smart switch that you're putting on there, is there also going to be a manual toggle outside of just the Ethernet connectability?
jamie peacock: You push the button on the switch.
Curt: Okay. Okay.
jamie peacock: on the db border Yeah, no, no, it has buzz.
Curt: So it does. It's. It's not like our lights in our shops were just like, well...
jamie peacock: No. So all the...
Curt: Internet's down. No work today.
jamie peacock: all the stuff in the workshop. has got override buttons. So I bought... uh four relay modules uh smart relay modules those run all the lights in the workshop and the compressors also drain. And then there's two smarts which smart breakers, one for the compressors and one for the office.
jamie peacock: that you can physically push a button on. And then.
Curt: okay
jamie peacock: Off. Yeah. our Finally, after. four months. have set Home Assistant up again to monitor spindle uptime on the LK.
Curt: Oh, nice. Yay. Okay, good.
jamie peacock: Yes, because I was there at 3am and I had fuck all else to do, so... Amen as well.
Curt: Sure.
jamie peacock: So.
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: Got that all working? yeah esp uh esp homes magic once you've got the board on your on your system to push updates is easy.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: And then I'm like.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Okay, Claude, here's the code. Here's the YAML file. Remove this remove this add this blah blah blah It reassigned all the pins. So I'm like, I can't reassign the pins back the way they fucking were.
jamie peacock: I didn't ask you to reassign them. So, because it was already wired up. So I had to force her to re -reassign my pins. um but yeah got that work i haven't got a tied into home assistant doing national monitoring yet but the signals are coming in to home assistance.
Curt: That's good. hey Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yep, so I just need to do the Home Assistant dashboard side of things. which is not that difficult. And then... I'm going to set it up that if... When you leave, you disable Ironman mode. If the LK is still on, the compressors and drains stay on.
jamie peacock: And when the LK turns off, they'll then turn off five minutes later.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: So if I'm running unattended, Carl can just disable Iron Man mode on his way out, all the lights turn off, but the machine stays on with the compressor.
Curt: Gotcha. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
jamie peacock: small Small things.
Curt: yeah i know i have your pcb that you made me for that and like this week i was like oh i should have that in because i was like it'd be interesting to do and i'm like no we're we're so far down that yak shaving path right now i'm like i could do it but no we'll do it when i have a ah pause because but
jamie peacock: I got it. My neighbor's come through. We need to set up the smart speaker by the door. So when you come in, you can just go, hey, turn on the lights. Hey, turn off the lights when you leave. and it can handle it. but I'm having issues with the Toyo app.
Curt: Right.
jamie peacock: It's... keeps losing its authentication. with home assistance.
Curt: Oh, okay.
jamie peacock: It's really fucking frustrating. So I need to figure out what's going on there I will harass Mr. Claude. But my home assistant is now finally unfucked. uh the database for erp got corrupted somehow So I need to...
Curt: o
jamie peacock: get in there and have it show eventually got that all working, pulled Kanban cards out of the ERP because we have Otter. um
Curt: Mm hmm.
jamie peacock: So I'm going to have it automatically back the database up on like a daily basis. because we use it for quoting we use it for uh um I've got a saw cut section that handles all my saw cut materials. So I loaded in there once.
jamie peacock: It generates a section and copy into an email to send to the supplier for a quote. And then it also prints out.
Curt: Mm hmm.
jamie peacock: chords So that when the like when I order material, I print out the cards that go by the door. When the material comes in. The stuff all gets tagged. that I know what job it's for. Otherwise it just gets used for the wrong thing.
Curt: right right Yeah.
jamie peacock: As happens, yeah. um
Curt: Huh.
jamie peacock: See, I'm trying to be... trying to be more fancy but yeah that was down for like three weeks because home assistant was just shitting the bed for some reason.
Curt: but Weird.
jamie peacock: to the point that I considered doing a reinstall.
Curt: Weird. Huh.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: huh
jamie peacock: it's there was some change and then the supervisor Thingy was fucking hot. I don't know. We'll see if it's still working when I get there today.
Curt: i got my homes into a point where it's like it's so happy like it's happy i just don't update it anymore now like it's like there's updates like fuck you you're happy you're staying here Yeah.
jamie peacock: yeah
jamie peacock: Don't break it, yeah. No, 100%.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I might im not just do a freeze on it at some point so that we don't have this bullshit. uh because we're gonna put a camera probably put a camera upstairs in the office and put a camera somewhere else i want the camera in the lk
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: so that if I'm running unattended, I can see what it's doing.
Curt: Yeah. Yeah.
jamie peacock: But I'm trying not to just... Cut a hole in the enclosure.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: for the camera Look, that would be the easiest. Go with a big hole saw, cut a hole, put a piece of... Lexan over it and fucking there you go. Problem solved.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: But, uh...
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I'm not a... total utter savage. um I have a camera. I think I actually installed it before I went went away so I could look at my doggos.
Curt: Mm.
jamie peacock: So I'll just have to take that one to work and reconnect it and then it can go in the LK. And it'll be fun.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Let's do it.
Curt: I know.
jamie peacock: Well, if I can pick one there Let's work through the topics today.
Curt: a Uh... Top. gun range Tell me that.
jamie peacock: I went and shot things. I don't know why it's called Top Gun.
Curt: Ooh.
jamie peacock: It's your shooting range.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: so Busy with proficiency. Um, So... It took me to do to do my proficiency, it took me 2 ,080 hours. I literally got given the...
Curt: ah of Practice.
jamie peacock: the stuff
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: over a year ago.
Curt: oh Okay, okay.
jamie peacock: to work through on my idea.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: But yeah, the guy messaged me on Mondays. Okay, he's back in town. um Am I available on Wednesday to shoot? I'm like, dude, I will make time. So went to the range. up Obviously, I've shot things before. so he was like okay cool there were some other guys doing their proficiencies So...
jamie peacock: it came my turn on my creed he's like load the mags i click if i can load the mags up in the normal They're really nice. CZ P10C. ah kind of want one. one Um, And he's like, okay, cool.
jamie peacock: Red dots art. first target shoot the target with the red dot seconds we'll turn the red dot off you gotta aim Through it, it's got higher sats so you can see through. I'm like, sweeto, fuck you. And he's like. Please, can you miss a little bit?
jamie peacock: Lock. We need there to be 10 holes in the target. I was like fuck fun I'll miss a little bit.
Curt: Aww.
Curt: for that
jamie peacock: would yeah I ended up playing with that, playing with the... Um, the little 22LR. semi -auto and bolt action rifle and they're playing with shotgun. And then... the other guys were done he's like hey there's still rounds go shoot them so then i was fucking shooting off shotgun rounds exploding water bottles And.
Curt: Have fun. let
jamie peacock: Yeah, and then shooting, he's like, do you want to shoot anything else? I'm going to shoot you, I don't mind. So I was playing with the 9mm a bit more. But there were some other guys doing proficiency. They hit the page. I'll give them that.
jamie peacock: They hit the page. I took their target and then shot the actual target on the page.
Curt: and Okay.
jamie peacock: Like I got three free targets because they hadn't hit the target at all.
Curt: Ho ho ho ho.
jamie peacock: I'm like, what the fuck? So I was having fun. I'm like, if that was a person, they would be gone. um but yeah lots of fun like i kind of want to get into competition shooting i think it'll be fun It'll be fucking expensive, but it'll be fun.
Curt: Yeah, yeah Shooting is fun.
jamie peacock: Mark.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: shooting's a blast like it's an absolute blast but yeah what a ball egg to get all the shit in Like now proficiency is done. That's like, I think two or three months to get that all signed off. then you've got to apply for for competency.
jamie peacock: Then once that comes through in like three to six months, you can apply for a gun license. You can buy a gun and app apply for the license. The gun has to stay at the dealer until your license is granted, and that can take three to six months.
Curt: cool That's a while.
jamie peacock: yes it's a fucking ball like and then you can only have 500 rounds of ammo for that gun in your position with you with your self -defense status, then you can Push your status up to a different.
jamie peacock: It's a whole fucking story. so to get an ar -15 i've got like another two years ahead of me to be able to get the correct. licensing and shit in place to be able to do that.
Curt: Hmm. Wow.
jamie peacock: Home defense, AR -15.
Curt: Yeah. that's Yeah,
jamie peacock: Yeah. Lots of fun. Um, But yeah, it was a lot of fun. Fucking trying to find the place, there's no signage. So I'll put in my GPS. a park. And um I've got my my other cans, my... my green cans and the car guard there's like hey are you looking for the shooting replacement yes he's like i've done yeah dannya so i'm just gonna eat this one's gonna try and rob me so i got my knife in my pocket like i'll fucking stab this bitch uh but yeah turns out it's just down there there's a shooting indoor shooting range Um,
Curt: Oh, cool. Okay. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Sorry, luck. in in the freaking town and indoor shooting range it was kind of cool
Curt: Oh, that's cool.
jamie peacock: So yeah, we'll see. I'll probably try to buy a firearm from a place that... has an indoor range because then one while you wait for the license you can go use your gun at the range
Curt: Okay, this makes yeah, that makes sense.
jamie peacock: because you have your competency it's just you can't have the gun in your possession outside of the Secure environment so you can go take your gun out of the safe
Curt: Sure.
jamie peacock: you pay your range fees shoot the gun and then put it back clean it put it back in the safe until you get your license my brother did that when he did his license initially
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Like we went up and we were shooting his gun. at the range. Instead of renting a gun at the range, you shoot your own gun.
Curt: Right. That'd be nice.
jamie peacock: So it lets you get
Curt: Yeah, that'd be nice.
jamie peacock: It lets you get practice with your own firearm before you. Take possession of it.
Curt: Yeah, that makes sense.
jamie peacock: Because...
Curt: That makes sense
jamie peacock: Yeah. If you're not practicing, it's useless.
Curt: i've wanted to get like like here that's uh like a pistol is a restricted arm status so i wanted to get my restricted arm Um, And I looked into this like.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Yes.
Curt: forever ago so if anybody people that are hip to this i'm probably going to speak super out of school but i have no idea how long the delay is but i know it's like you got to go through like i went through we have like possession acquisition license then you have all the different licensing. Take care.
Curt: but same thing it's like ah it's a runaround if you want to go shoot it like you have to the way you have to transport it then you have what you have to notify and like
jamie peacock: yes
Curt: Yeah, there's a lot going on.
jamie peacock: yeah
Curt: so
jamie peacock: fucking ballla Um,
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Buh -bye.
Curt: I get it.
jamie peacock: having oh i'd see the the us just changed thought they'd There was a court case against the government and the government lost. So now you can make sort of shotguns in all but 11.
jamie peacock: It was word of what? Something in gay states. I was watching a Brandon Herrera video. But yeah, it's now legal to saw off your shotgun in a bunch of states.
Curt: Oh, right.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Rightfully so I guess. I i don't know.
jamie peacock: Yeah like fucking a Cool.
Curt: like ish Yeah.
jamie peacock: Fun times. um But yeah, I can, yeah, the US suppresses now. uh with that federal law They are no longer classed as a firearm.
jamie peacock: it's just an accessory so previously suppressors were classed as a firearm and you needed it specific licensing to own a suppressor.
Curt: Right. Right.
jamie peacock: Here, that's not the case. here you can bring in a bar suppressor It's not an issue.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: uh you kind of have to have the firearm to put it on um So like we we're discussing...
Curt: Sure. yeah
jamie peacock: Going competency. And then... There's competency to trade is another license I'd have to get. And then after that, gunsmithing license. Then I can...
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: basically have whatever ammunition i want because it's for my customer's gun um But then the customer brings you the gun, you check it into your safe. do the work and then check it out of your safe when they take it away. Um, which may be a route i want to go but I don't know.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I know there is some bullshit in my lease agreements about not putting a safe. on the premises
Curt: Mmm. Interesting. Okay.
jamie peacock: so yeah we'll have to just see what what the situation there is but yeah anyway it was lots of fun I got to play with pew -pews.
Curt: yeah yeah
Curt: That's always fun. Yeah.
jamie peacock: yeah like three hours of my day i'm like fucking worth it
Curt: Yeah. Especially when you get to shoot.
jamie peacock: Yeah, that was on Wednesday.
Curt: yeah shoot the fun ammo where you're like One dollar.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: $2.
jamie peacock: Dude, my brother's bachelor's thing on the Friday morning before his wedding was a shoot. So he bought a bunch of ammo.
Curt: Mm hmm.
jamie peacock: Me and his mates, we're just shooting out my brother's ammo. We give zero fucks. It's not our ammo. Like who cares?
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: but yeah we had an absolute blast shooting uh we're shooting at like 400 meters With.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: With all the high -power rifles and the ARs and whatnot.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: And it was a fucking blast. And then he gave me the. a gun that i hadn't shot to try shoot an egyptian goose and the trigger was way lighter So. Hours. Getting ready to shoot and a shot. um which was a little bit annoying.
Curt: Hey.
jamie peacock: because i had two egyptian geese lined up i was gonna plug both of them fucking one time
Curt: We've all.
Curt: Ha ha.
jamie peacock: yeah i think that was like a six millimeter hunting raffle or something i don't know He likes his fucking guns.
Curt: Huh. Cool.
jamie peacock: But yeah I had a lot of fun with this AR shooting targets at 400 meters with an AR.
Curt: I can see that being fun.
jamie peacock: ah But...
Curt: Yeah, yeah.
jamie peacock: His guns are super dull. Like he hunts with them and he competition shoots with them. So like on the top of his scope is a chart. How many meters? How many clicks of elevation? It's all he's done all the the calculations. He's done all the testing.
Curt: Hm.
jamie peacock: That little chart is correct for that gun. So like you.
Curt: That's cool.
jamie peacock: yeah you range find it 390 meters click to click 400. Bing! Hit the target. That was fucking great.
Curt: That's cool. yeah that's cool
jamie peacock: Yeah. so i had a lot of fun with uh with that whole story but anyway back to the machining things Tell me about your drill bit skirt.
Curt: What?
Curt: Mm hmm. Oh, dude. Um, Yeah.
jamie peacock: What happened?
Curt: well Okay, so ah drilling on the mill. Very fast very very nice to do um I started... Push. I was going to push the whole batch through it. and I'm like, you know what? I'm gonna drill.
Curt: five bodies first because i'm like that'll give me at least make sure i'm not like in fluke state of like oh it worked once or twice so i'm like
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: I'll do five.
jamie peacock: Yo.
Curt: I'll put them in the lathe. I'll do all the operations on them. I'll ream them, which is kind of annoying because I have to flip -flop operations. So do all this.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: And then. i'll get them right to the end so end state put a refill in them screw a tip on there and just like Cycle it. Just to make sure, like...
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: i didn't I don't uncover something stupid in production and then set myself back like a month. Because I'm like, oh, I didn't foresee that blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
jamie peacock: a
Curt: So anyways. Did the five of them. they came out perfectly like no issues all reaming went wonderfully everything was dead on like surfaces were perfect tolerances everything was perfect i'm like excellent i have enough confidence now to run the rest of the batch through there So.
Curt: i ah I fired up the mill and then I fired up the lathe so that the mill would do the drilling. and right i don't have all the tools populated right now so i made the code basically it i used just two tool holders uh so i loaded one offline loaded put one in the machine
jamie peacock: yeah
Curt: It would do the drilling and it would. it would stop and then put the tool holder in the position where i could just take it out So I'd take that one out, swap a new one, and hit cycle start.
jamie peacock: yes
Curt: It'd bring it back in, do the drilling. um And then I would. Take. the body out. Put it in the lathe and the lathe would start. So the timings were about the same for long how long the mill took and how long the lathe took.
Curt: So I was just hopping. So you're like you're at that one point where like there can be no music.
jamie peacock: yeah
Curt: There can be no podcast. Like right now I am at full mental capacity trying to keep everything happy.
jamie peacock: Yeah. You need to turn the turn the music down so that you can you can read better.
Curt: A hundred percent. and Exactly. I'm like, it's too bright. I can't focus right.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: I got to turn lights down like right at the right ragged limits of what my, my.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: processor in my brain can handle.
jamie peacock: yeah
Curt: and It was going great. And I ran like that for, I don't know. a little while. And then, uh, I think when I was, I think. Well, I noticed for I put a brand new drill in And I like immediately started chipping.
Curt: uh like the flutes i was like oh i'm like It's because it's centered. I'm assuming it's because it's centered drilled. The tape the angles angles are wrong. So the drill is just getting.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: pissy because it's hitting on the edges instead of just contacting on the tip like it should be to start So like. uh no issue i'm like whatever i'll just i'll so i'll slow down a little bit and see if that helps so i sold that down Edit. helped moderately but it didn't do much i was like okay we'll screw it we'll run it out rapid and we'll just see what happens like i'll just Um, so it was going and i'm like okay it kind of seems to a level out maybe this took its its sharp Crispy Corners out and now it's happy. so
Curt: it goes through like uh i think it drilled through i don't know like 20 operations or something like that Or like. 20 parts. And then... I was like, it looks happy. Like I was looking at the the tube and I'm like, ah the tubes aren't perfect, but like they're going to be reamed. It doesn't. really matter.
Curt: And then I was just like, same thing, swapping. And all of a sudden I hear it going like, because it's it's just going zigzag, zigzag, zigzag, zigzag. And I hear like zigzag. This a is this a kick and ah like a little crack. And then Zig Zig clunk, and then clunk.
jamie peacock: o
Curt: I was like, oh, that's not happy now. So then I just, like, e -stopped it. And yeah, it snapped the drill inside the body. And then it was like force feeding the drill body.
Curt: back into the old drill piece. And ah so, yeah, it was like I was like, OK, I was curious how it was going to fail. And that's how it failed.
jamie peacock: Well now you know. And what are you doing for coolants?
Curt: Now I know. Uh, kid.
jamie peacock: where you're just blasting from the top.
Curt: That was the thing is I took a I was going to make those fancy half pipes and I'm like, let's make life easier.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: I have like 400 feet of lock line. So I put like. a meter and a half of lock line off one nozzle all the way down to the table and then it does a little ui and then it comes back up and it points inside the the
jamie peacock: oh
Curt: pen body that's in the spindle. So that worked really great. And then the other ones I just had shooting the body from the sides. Cause I'm like, I have benefit of extra cooling. But ah doing it that way made it more pissy.
jamie peacock: yeah
Curt: um Because it was... it was clipping what i can assume i can't see it really um but i'm thinking what's happening is it was taking a chip off the end of the drill and just feeding it back into the the hole that it just made.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Um, So it was happier honestly with just the coolant coming in basically straight sideways on the drill with a little down angle That seemed to work best.
jamie peacock: Okay.
Curt: So, yeah.
jamie peacock: Um.
Curt: um
jamie peacock: Yeah, what about putting your... your coolant so increasing your retract heart
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: and pointing your coolant that it actually goes into the tube but doesn't touch the drill
Curt: I ca - I... Kind of tried that. um
jamie peacock: Okay.
Curt: But I think it was just.
jamie peacock: Because then they'll blow any shavings out, but not. blow any shavings in.
Curt: I was kind of like, I went a little slower and I don't think.
jamie peacock: kind of
Curt: chip evacuation is at all going to be the problem i think is just getting the chips off the drill
jamie peacock: is the problem.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: but even then the next time it goes like it's not plugging the flutes enough where like the peck is small enough that even if the chips stay on and i notice it in the lathe too if the chips stay on the drill and it enters again It just...
Curt: it just kind of forces them down the flute a little bit and then they come out on the next retract anyways so like
jamie peacock: Okay.
Curt: I rarely get recutting issues like that.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: the biggest issue with that is the smearing on the side of like the drill, maybe get caught.
jamie peacock: Um...
Curt: catch caught weird and then it kind of smears inside the tube but Yeah.
jamie peacock: Out of curiosity, What is your cooling concentration?
Curt: 10%. I run everything about 10%.
jamie peacock: Okay, so it's... it's not like that drifted and are you chipping drills
Curt: No, no. i Like, it was...
jamie peacock: Okay.
Curt: Yeah, I'm... I'm almost certain it was like I should probably have a different cycle where it enters a little slower, but I... i reduced the rapids too like i sorry i turned everything down So it essentially have a slow entry and just be like, well, whatever. I'll just run one like this. It'll take.
Curt: 10 times as long. And. or like sorry i ran a bunch of them i got just to see and it was like me it's still like
jamie peacock: Oh! What is your what is your pec length?
Curt: No huge difference.
jamie peacock: Like when you're starting drilling.
Curt: ah It starts off aggressively because I can start off. Quite aggressive.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: um And then once it gets down about whatever. an inch or so then it starts to reduce its peck
jamie peacock: okay the reason The reason I'm asking is that when you're engaging the...
Curt: I love it.
jamie peacock: the sensor drill are you engaging that once or are you engaging it six times when you're drilling out that center draw.
Curt: Uh... it's probably engaged Once.
jamie peacock: Because I'd say check that because...
Curt: Probably once.
jamie peacock: if you're engaging and disengaging with an interrupted cut that's going to chip your tip whereas if you engage that once and just push through it you've now got a full engagement
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: So...
Curt: Oh, sorry. Yeah, until you get full lands.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: ah
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: What? i probably the first peck i get i go from whatever like the tips to like probably 75 % of the land. Because like the the center drill goes really wide and then it goes down
jamie peacock: okay Yeah. Yes.
Curt: to your little nubbin so it takes down all the wide part first
jamie peacock: okay And then...
Curt: And then the next entry is probably only seeing. Just like the... the
jamie peacock: they're just the tip
Curt: you know whatever three millimeters or two millimeters.
jamie peacock: Yep. Um, it might yeah it might be worthwhile just pushing that first pick even deeper so that you're only engaging with funny business once
Curt: Open. Yeah.
Curt: That might help. I i think what I'm...
jamie peacock: Yeah. wait Well, see where it's chipping.
Curt: I think what I'm...
jamie peacock: that would be That would be the first thing, is when it...
Curt: Across the flutes, yeah.
jamie peacock: across the whole flute
Curt: across all the flutes.
jamie peacock: It's not like it's chipping a lawn.
Curt: No.
jamie peacock: Um... Okay. That's unfortunate.
Curt: Yeah. I noticed that too.
jamie peacock: Because I was tripping a lot and you could see way...
Curt: I'm like, it might.
jamie peacock: where the problem is.
Curt: I know. I was like, if I'm chipping the corners, that makes perfect sense.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: But I looked under a loop and it's like.
jamie peacock: Yep.
Curt: but but but But it just looks like someone just went. gangbusters with it with like a little like A little micro. machine gun like it's all it's chipped across so i'm like maybe just a little bit Pissy running this hard, but...
jamie peacock: yeah
Curt: I don't entirely know um And I could hear what...
jamie peacock: Yeah, it might be worth... Yeah.
Curt: I could hear what recutting would sound like, like when I had the... the
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: Cool. and Coming straight up, I could hear it like hitting a chip and it it doesn't sound good. I can't... I was ooh.
jamie peacock: makes extra flavor noises.
Curt: Yeah, not good noises.
jamie peacock: um
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: Yeah, expansive noises
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Um... Okay. Sorry. Fucking call.
Curt: So.
jamie peacock: Send me a voice note so I just message them. I can't listen now. um No stress.
Curt: Long way to say. That I... ah I ran them as many drills as i had in the middle kind of just testing things until i got down to my like level of like okay now i'm getting scared because i don't have a lot of drills And then I threw it back in the lathe. And just. Put a brand new drill and just let it run.
Curt: uh the code and well that leads into another topic but uh Okay. And then, and then after I was expecting. Yeah. inspecting parts off the mill and and inspecting parts of the lathe i'm like Yeah, the lathe just absolutely demolishes it on surface finish.
jamie peacock: and finish.
Curt: like sharp tool sharp cool yeah it's just so i'm like it's
jamie peacock: Yeah, but that's oil.
Curt: it's not even the chips like i compare the chips off both of them with sharp tools
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: And the chips off the oil. are and the same feeds like we're feeding through the the cut the same way same pack same everything Chips on the mill. are ragged looking like they they're kind of like bendy and they look Almost like... Torn?
Curt: Whereas the chips on the mill are just like beautiful little shiny coils so like Oil has, I think a huge thing to do with it.
jamie peacock: yeah oil is there's a reason. that Swiss machines are run oil.
Curt: Yeah. and and I didn't really know. I'm like. oh that's interesting so i'm like razor sharp tools First run. Same titanium, same feed. And the chips are completely different. So it's like. Hmm.
jamie peacock: Well, I had this conversation with my neighbor about coolants. I'm like coolants is a tool like people especially here are just like oh it's just it's just cool it no friend
Curt: Yeah.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Like coolant makes a difference. we running like i want to change the coolant we're running on the lathes because it gets really soupy with the um With the tramp oil? Like it gets thick, like soup.
jamie peacock: um But our tool half is 3x and stainless. And literally three extra tool off.
Curt: Right, yeah
jamie peacock: So. I would rather have like, I've got a job coming up now. uh we used to change in swiss rotate insert every 70 parts the last batch we did i got up to 200 parts and then had to change setups and i rotated the insert because i didn't want it to Fuck on halfway through the second op.
jamie peacock: Um...
Curt: Right.
jamie peacock: like the tool off is noticeably better with the harmon oil content coolant
Curt: Yeah, yeah.
jamie peacock: So.
Curt: and i mean that was the main reason i wanted to run the the five the x5 on oils because i'm like i know my oil is just like
jamie peacock: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: It lets you do. Things that. You can't do like because it you you just get the benefits of.
jamie peacock: Yep.
Curt: Super, super slippery city.
jamie peacock: off. yes no exactly like it's it's freaking wild the performance with oil But, yeah. Why didn't you put oil in the X5?
Curt: ah No one has done it. And Sile was like, it'll probably work. So I was like, okay, well, I don't really want to probably. And then I also wanted to do unattended running. Whereas like.
Curt: I'm like that kind of like I don't run the lathe like. When I'm gone. Because if something goes awry.
jamie peacock: yet nine hundred cent
Curt: You just have a bomb. Whereas like at least something goes awry in a mill with just being blasted with water.
jamie peacock: yes
Curt: It's like. This is not going to burn.
jamie peacock: Yeah, it'll be fun.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah. No, no, 100%.
Curt: So.
jamie peacock: Yeah, unattended is a... is a whole other thing. ah Speaking of unattended...
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: We have Patreons.
Curt: Ooh.
jamie peacock: Hmm, I feel like that was an adequate thing. um Yes.
Curt: Sure.
jamie peacock: our patreons Make the vacuum suck.
Curt: ah
jamie peacock: uh wanted to put that right since last week thank you to all the patreons you guys make the wheels on the uh on the train
Curt: We got them all today.
jamie peacock: And the... And the vacuum. Because it has wheels. um Yeah. Thank you, patrons.
Curt: so
jamie peacock: You guys make the wheels on the train go round and round. um All the Patreons. can enter to win a Freddie Macro Plus at the moment. We have a giveaway going on. And the everyone above the $6 tier gets access to the after show.
jamie peacock: The top tier patrons all get a shout out every week. That list is a Luke from Fabtastic, AJ from Subtract Manufacturing, Jason S. EJ from Returnal Welding, the Aussie Machinist, Christian Olsen, Charles Watt, Carl from Cursed Machine, Matt from Offworld Gear, Alex B, John from Tursen Performance and Engine Tricks, Matt from Modern Fuel.
jamie peacock: Okay. Josh from Latent Machine, Greg from Tabletop Machine Shop, Ben from Prickly Pear Prototypes, Jesse from Data Proto. tux garage and freaky climber and this week we have a new patreon joshua human Thank you Patrons! And now for the fun bits.
jamie peacock: I have the hats. Um...
Curt: oo
jamie peacock: Let's see. So this is for the week two. bonus entry challenge which, one moment, let me see. ah Uh... that document. This one is called Lifetime Achievement Award
Curt: Oh, interesting. More news to me.
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: So let's go.
jamie peacock: Yep. So the first weeks, we've had a lot of engagement on the first week's bonus entry challenge. It's been a lot of fun. People managed to find pictures of Jesse.
Curt: Oh cool.
jamie peacock: Okay, there we go.
Curt: Nice.
jamie peacock: We have a thing. And it is. Rob? Hatchim. Hutchkins? You have been... You are the...
Curt: cool
jamie peacock: the featured person. We shall look you up.
Curt: So... What? Why did you pull that paper out of your pocket as opposed to out of the hat?
jamie peacock: Dun dun!
Curt: I said.
jamie peacock: Because the one in my pocket had this name on it.
Curt: Oh, gotcha. Okay, that makes sense.
jamie peacock: Yes, yeah and we wanted we wanted to get this name uh yeah so this week's this one is going to be uh
Curt: Yeah. but ah
jamie peacock: ah Let me just fucking can find the actual text for this thing. The Lifetime Achievement Award. So it's going to be the same thing. invent your ridiculous award to give to this person.
jamie peacock: um
Curt: oh
jamie peacock: Write a funny explanation. of why the featured supporter deserves it. Post your intro on Instagram. Tag the... Tag. all the things Um,
jamie peacock: and then follow their account to get your bonus entry. for the freddie giveaway yes so more info on that
Curt: oo
jamie peacock: We're done. Gives me things to post on Wednesday when this podcast comes out.
Curt: Interesting. Okay.
jamie peacock: Yes, it's going to be fun.
Curt: Bye.
jamie peacock: Yeah. So.
Curt: That'd be fun. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yes, there's another one more bonus challenge next week. Um...
jamie peacock: teaser yeah I don't know where she's written what it is. But yeah, anyway. Hopefully I'll have a Freddie before we have to do the giveaway because I want to use the Freddie to suck the names into the Freddie and then pull the name out.
Curt: Ooh, slick. Okay. Yeah, yeah.
jamie peacock: Yes, like they did for the Freddie giveaway. I want to do the same for the...
Curt: Right.
jamie peacock: for the freddy giveaway uh but yeah go go check out uh we posting stuff every week about it about the bonus challenges and for any giveaways and things. Um, You have to be a Patreon at any tier to get an entry. Watch me. able to enter.

jamie peacock: What's up?
Curt: Nice.
jamie peacock: Hit it. Back to the podcast.
Curt: Back to the podcast.
jamie peacock: now that we've done the show oh wait let me just write down what time this was 40 men. ish because danica's gonna phone me to ask what time did you do the patreon read because she's going to try and clip that
Curt: Ah, this makes sense.
jamie peacock: Yes, also my podcast player doesn't do video, but it pulled in a screenshot of the video.
Curt: Yes.
jamie peacock: um as a thumbnail and I'm like It's great.
Curt: ah Perfect.
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I was rather annoyed with it. But anyway... Um...
Curt: Tell me about.
jamie peacock: How how it I want to know.
Curt: Oh, good.
jamie peacock: Okay, well, that's fine. Let's do one of mine. I have questions about your stuff. but Go first.
Curt: Uh...
Curt: Oh, because that was cool. And I saw that ah Mr. I think it was Aussie Machinist. See ya.
jamie peacock: Yes!
Curt: SOP. the SOP Cloud workflow.
jamie peacock: yes i have not done it yet but dude that seems like a wicked workflow
Curt: Okay.
Curt: Yeah, and for the... unknown who didn't see this he sent a put out a story We're as... as i understand he just shot a video of basically a setup that he does on his machine and then fed it into Claude and said, like...
Curt: break this down into like a printed guide and it did a Pretty damn good job.
jamie peacock: yeah I need to put Claude on my phone so that it's easy to give it videos.
Curt: so That's super cool.
Curt: oh yeah and that way it knows where you are so it can yeah keep keep track of you and do all the Scary scary robot stuff.
jamie peacock: Yeah. 100%.
Curt: Yeah, yeah.
jamie peacock: That's why I don't want it on my phone, but I think I'm going to put it on my phone anyway.
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: Either I'm going to take one of my old cell phones and use one of my old phones for it.
Curt: Whatever. Neil Dalton.
jamie peacock: that's just on the wi -fi
Curt: That'll trick it, yeah.
jamie peacock: Well, no, I don't want it on my fucking phone.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: like I don't want it on my phone. My phone is full of enough crap. Fuck!
Curt: Let it be known, Claude, I do not think you are crap.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: So when I am a human battery, please put me into a simulation that I enjoy. Actually, maybe I'm already in it. So who knows? Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah, so speaking of cuck coding. um
Curt: That's so I forgot about that
jamie peacock: Oh yeah. Tweet that! That's the best.
Curt: That's that's the the best way.
jamie peacock: That is what it is called now. This is the cut coding section of the podcast because you sit in the chair and watch.
Curt: It's 100%. That's it. Yeah. It is so much better.
jamie peacock: um Yeah. i had uh i had claude remove the kanban section from my
Curt: Good.
jamie peacock: from my ERP because we're using order. And then... ah had it fix the Home Assistant app that is our... our erp because i made it as a home system to add it
Curt: Oh, okay.
jamie peacock: Instead of hosting it separately, it's just to add in home assistants.
Curt: Cool.
jamie peacock: And then it just... you go to you go to Fuck whatever IP address. uh that home assistant's on with uh Port number 3000, and it pulls up. the erp
Curt: Cool.
jamie peacock: on the network so it's only on our network uh but it handles like all of our closing we're quoting engine built into it where
Curt: cool
jamie peacock: you can put in it accounts for setup time and cycle time Material cost markups. inconvenience, fees, all those things.
Curt: Cool.
jamie peacock: Yeah, I literally have a field called inconvenience fee or annoyance fee.
Curt: That's okay.
jamie peacock: Yep.
Curt: That makes sense. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
jamie peacock: ah But, yeah, I like it. I've got it handling all my material. like ordering that that's what i like about it because i do a lot of saw cut aluminium
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: So then. It generates labels and stuff as well. And Carl's not using it because we're doing more job shoppy stuff. ah to keep him entertained because he's getting very bored of just production flat out and from next month the production stuff's going to slow down a bit so he's like no he needs the job scheduler so that stuff doesn't fall through the cracks for the job shopping stuff because he's going to do a lot more i'm going to get him to do a lot more job shopping on his lathe because he enjoys it and it keeps him engaged whereas the production is boring as fun
Curt: ah Yeah, I get that 100%.
jamie peacock: Yep. so i also emailed my customer and like oi dickheads you're in she cometh If you want anything before the end of December, you best order it by the middle of November. or you're just not getting it this year.
jamie peacock: and yeah got an order from them so i think we'll be fine in december which is great.
Curt: Nice. That's good.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: That's good.
jamie peacock: But y 'all fucking... I'm quite excited to see how the... the cuck coding SOPs works. because I want to get SOPs in place and that's going to be the easiest way to do it.
Curt: Yeah.
Curt: I and I. i think i so i sent him a maybe i didn't send him a message i don't know but same thing like i've i've recorded certain certain things here i'm like i will never remember how to do this so i record a small youtube video and then i'll throw it on my channel like just unlisted so i can just Yeah, so I can just watch it?
jamie peacock: Unlisted, yeah.
Curt: and uh because i'll refer them back like years later and be like how the shit did i do that I'm like, oh, that's how I did it. Okay. But that's great now because I'm like, oh yeah, I never thought about just plugging it in and letting it break it down. cause Sometimes just having a nice piece of paper.
Curt: Just like with it all printed out, it's just.
jamie peacock: yes
Curt: more convenient.
jamie peacock: You know, like now when Carl got back, I'm like...
Curt: So.
jamie peacock: First thing in the morning machine before machines warm up. We pull shavings out. So the shavings are dry.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: While the machine warms up, You skim the tramp oil with a vacuum.
Curt: Right.
jamie peacock: We've got a dedicated vacuum cleaner for it. You skim the tramp oil.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Wireless warms up. because we don't use coolant during warm -up, and then you get going for the day. It's fine if we lose that first half an hour of the day. because otherwise you're going to lose it in the day when the machine is now full of shavings
Curt: Totally. Totally.
jamie peacock: So yeah, just getting these SOPs in place.
Curt: Yeah. yeah
jamie peacock: um Bye. I bought a mop bucket with a... a crusher, a mob crusher to drain them up. because... You don't want to grab them off by hand to drain it because the shavings in it now Um,
jamie peacock: And Aesopias Simon comes in.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: He fills the bucket, he puts one cup of degreaser into it, and he mops the fucking floor. That's what he does on a Wednesday morning. before anything else as he cleans.
Curt: Nice. Yeah.
jamie peacock: because otherwise the workshop just gets out of hand.
Curt: Yep.
jamie peacock: Yep.
Curt: Beep, beep, beep.
jamie peacock: so just getting all these s sops in place like trying to get i need to do assembly s sops is the next thing So I think the videoing is going to be the...
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: the ticket there.
Curt: Yeah, I... I say that's a that's a cool method.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: I do like it.
jamie peacock: Yeah, I've also got a video series that I've shot two episodes of that I need to edit.
Curt: Yeah.
Curt: Get it up there.
jamie peacock: Mmm.
Curt: I wanna watch it.
jamie peacock: Yeah, it's coming. it's coming they're short videos they're short form like two or three minutes long
Curt: but
Curt: That's all right Still good. Better than...
jamie peacock: well that is it's quickly
Curt: hour and 40 minute video.
jamie peacock: Yeah. It's... The idea is it's quickly consumable. um but it needs to be on a weekly schedule.
Curt: Yeah. It'd be good.
jamie peacock: So quick to shoot, quick to edit, quick to post, and then... weekly schedule. Um, yeah actually to look through what videos i have and what i'm short of for making content Because yeah, we are busy with new product release stuff
Curt: Oui!
jamie peacock: I should probably make the marketing content for it this weekend Um... I ordered filament on Thursday night. with same day shipping so in theory i should have got it on friday afternoon i'm getting it on monday I'm a little bit pissed.
jamie peacock: because i wanted to start printing packaging over the weekend because i bought a like a dark green filament for the packaging because we're going with like a green color scheme on these products
Curt: Mm.
Curt: Mm -hmm.
jamie peacock: Um... Mostly to match the... the flag ranches are bought.
Curt: Oh, cute. Yeah, okay.
jamie peacock: But yeah, I got my...
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I got the little inserts back from heat treats.
Curt: Cute, yeah
jamie peacock: I dropped them off. I got them back the following day.
Curt: Oh, nice. That's awesome.
jamie peacock: Yes, and they are 56 Rockwell. They are.
Curt: Okay, that's good. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Hard as fuck. um i need to now go and blue them so i printed some bluing stuff i'm gonna mess around with that probably later today.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: uh just brewing a batch i blewed a few i actually sent four of my six original ones to ej
Curt: m
jamie peacock: um to test.
Curt: Cool. Okay. I was wondering where you're sending those.
jamie peacock: He's driving
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah, he's driving the struggle bus. He bought some keel clamps.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: So I'm like, dude, there you go. Fucking threw these in the box for you. uh play with him
Curt: Aww. Cute.
jamie peacock: See if they craft. But yeah, those were all about time. This podcast is out. there comes out they'll probably be on the score.
Curt: Sick. that's cool
jamie peacock: Yes. Um... Yeah, like those... um I'm very excited for them. There's three variants I need to now sort. They're all in one tub. I need to now sort them into the different variants. Um,
Curt: Oh.
jamie peacock: because they get lasered, yeah.
Curt: ha Right, yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah, it's not too bad because I've got trays that stack them And then you just face the the teeth up and you can very quickly see which is which variant.
Curt: Oh, okay, okay.
jamie peacock: Yeah, it's not it's not too bad.
Curt: That's not so bad.
jamie peacock: um But yeah, I need to blue them, then I need to laser them, then I need to... pack that It's going to be fun.
Curt: Right. Yeah.
jamie peacock: So I think the printer is going to be running flat out tomorrow. once that filaments are off Just printing.
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: Packaging. because I think we're going to offer them in a four -pack and then a 10 -pack. so four pack if you just want about four to play with
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: um or you can buy a 10 pack and then the pricing goes down the more 10 packs you buy
Curt: Sure. Yeah. Yeah.
jamie peacock: And then I think I'm going to add the flag wrench as an add -on.
Curt: yeah
jamie peacock: uh you can either buy a flag wrench or you can buy a um Quarter inch drive socket. with a T15 Torx.
Curt: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
jamie peacock: so if you've got a torque wrench you can just buy a socket so when it arrives you've got the the socket to suit
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Um... and then yeah that's that is the plan we shall see us going to get that all onto shopify and do all the marketing and the write -ups and the videos like there's a lot to still be done on it
Curt: Yeah, yeah
jamie peacock: So... never ends. um I was going to make a set of jaws to show them off on the Zendaya vases and the different the different applications and the different byt patterns and all that shit like i'm gonna have to spend a day just making content around them.
jamie peacock: But that's fun.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: That is what it is.
Curt: yeah well it's important because then people can understand it and Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Exactly, like I need to put a set of jaws on my... Pneumatic loss. to show the different bite patterns with the different length of grippers and things like that using a pneumatic vice because
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I was chatting to Matt and he was like, yeah, the. some of the smaller vases you literally need those Creepers come to a point if you want them to butt into the material. because they the vases have a very low amount of clamping force.
Curt: Oh, okay.
Curt: Right, right, right.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
jamie peacock: so I'm going to mess around with it and see how they how they work. for that application. But yeah, we've got an A, B, and a C variant. the aluminium, the biting and the curved variant.
Curt: Yeah, yeah
Curt: Right, right. Yeah, I saw the little.
jamie peacock: So yeah. the
Curt: Breakdown, yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah. the curve variance got a cut out in the middle it's designed to but into anywhere from a one inch to a three inch diameter ball. and bottom out.
Curt: Oh, okay. yep
jamie peacock: and engage so we'll see if they work otherwise you can just use them when you've got a really staunch vice that you can put a lot of force into
Curt: Right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
jamie peacock: But yeah, we've got a few hundred of those that need to be brewed today
Curt: Cool. Cool.
jamie peacock: Yo. Whole fucking tub of... them Anyway. But yeah, that's exciting. New products. i
Curt: Wee!
jamie peacock: always be always be new producting. And then, yeah, we got a Bunch.
Curt: I'll see you later.
jamie peacock: yeah a bunch of stuff restocked so i need to do some content around that as well
jamie peacock: that
Curt: Influencer.
jamie peacock: dude
Curt: but
jamie peacock: Yeah. Run a product business, they said. It'll be fun, they said.
Curt: Well, you don't have to do like... 30 in a month you could like do one product and then just like and then another one a little later but you're just you're constantly like
jamie peacock: man
Curt: This is neat.
jamie peacock: Evolve!
Curt: I'm going to build them and sell them.
jamie peacock: Yep.
Curt: Right now.
jamie peacock: So like I've... Of. restocked all the handy semen stuff i need to do some videos around that
Curt: Mm hmm.
jamie peacock: I've been making stock in the background. Um, So everything will be stopped. anchor point suck I've got blank palettes now. i'm busy restocking those so yeah there's a bunch of stuff that i've just been making stock in the background that when i want to start pushing We nots.
Curt: okay
jamie peacock: Now scrambling to make fucking pots.
Curt: Right. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Because yeah, that becomes ah becomes an issue when you start scrambling to make pots. But job anyway. um I want to know about your mist filter air quality readings.
Curt: Okay, so that was kind of interesting. Uh, And I'll have a YouTube video. Actually, I should be. It'll be edited before this is out. I edit it tomorrow. Um, so if you're listening to this you can go watch that and i'll have some details on there but basically I wanted to see if it could keep up with the lathe. The mill I wasn't really worried about because I went for the mill too, but the mill is just water -based coolant. It's not that bad. to each.
jamie peacock: It's only mildly carcinogenic.
Curt: Just getting rid of the mist. I don't... Yeah, like and I honestly don't even know if I'm going to put it on the mill because I don't get a ton of mist anymore and now that I... I'm not blasting like the nut on an yeah ER holder, like all my high speeds. tools now are in DC. So I Like DC calls, they just don't sling the coolant as bad.
Curt: Um, Regardless. I took an air quality meter reading, and it was... The... the ppm or the uh like parts per million of particulates it does like the whatever the 2 .5 micron and 10 micron is what it gives me readings on and it gives you a summary of like your rough air quality.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: And. typically like i'll just the values don't matter the units don't matter here but like If you're outside, um I can get a reading of like. Call it like. between Two, three thousand.
Curt: right this time of year because there's a little bit of dust and stuff in the air in the spring it can be like 10 000 just from like paul and and like all kinds of shit but i mean it goes up to like a hundred thousand two hundred thousand like this range is a big range so it's just take this range as just a scale. Doesn't matter. Numbers don't matter here.
Curt: Um, forced air. In the garage here, I have good... filters on my furnace if it just sits here like it is right now we're we're talking and the furnace is just running and cycling the air in here it'll get down to like A hundred.
Curt: sixty Where it's like.
jamie peacock: You go.
Curt: Cleaned all the air like it's cleaner than my house like the air in here will be very clean Um, the vocs are the sticky one because Those are. Hard to remove. um and the meter checks both so uh what i what i did is i vented i vented the garage Fully.
Curt: um And then. close the door and like let it sit overnight so i could see like okay is my baseline voc from just like the shit that's in here like I have gas tanks in here and I have oil sitting in the machines. I'm like, is are there going to be VOCs that accumulate?
Curt: um And I didn't print that night. Because that actually. Fucks up the air. and um
jamie peacock: yeah
Curt: See you in the morning. VOC was great. healthy range, particle count, super low because... furnace filtered all out. Ran the lathe. um And. The initial run, um so...
Curt: Because the lathe also like spits. It's got so many pneumatics on it. It's like venting air. fucking everywhere it's venting air inside the cabinet but it's also venting air outside because like Everything on this latest pneumatic.
Curt: Um, So. ah the The air quality. particular count went down. um after about whatever, an hour of running or so. Um, So the little filter on the mist filter is doing a really good job. And it's it's cleaning the air. The air coming out of it is cleaner than air going in.
Curt: um I did see a bump in VOCs. Um,
jamie peacock: Okay.
Curt: So it's... Obviously, it's not going to filter out the VOCs because it's just a HEPA filter. and whatever particular matter. So I saw a bump in VOCs. but i was like okay well i'm like that's a bummer but i kind of get it um so i was like okay well the next thing is now i want to track the vocs because if i can see how slow or fast or increasing then i can just modulate it with fresh air brought into the workshop.
Curt: so i can throttle the air instead of just like venting air out of here at like a light speed like i was last winter where you're just paying to heat it and then blowing it outside I could just be like, okay, I'd need to whatever, bring in. 100 CFM or 50 CFM or something like that just to balance it out.
jamie peacock: yeah
Curt: um So I did the test again. The next day, And. I didn't see any VOCs. So I was like. Interesting. So. uh but the next day i was just doing a reaming operation so there's just a lot less
jamie peacock: ahga
Curt: generation from so yeah there's something there's more to it i have to keep doing testing on it but uh
jamie peacock: Okay.
Curt: free a particulate count works fantastically um So I was happy about that at least. So, like, I just. I want to make sure because like in the past like that running the lathe for 15 seconds with the air quality meter in here, it would just Like. Pin it.
Curt: everywhere so like I had to vent outside.
jamie peacock: yeah
Curt: So it's doing its job.
jamie peacock: Yep. Okay.
Curt: um which is good. So, yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Okay, interesting. I'm curious to see what's happening with the VOCs though.
Curt: Yeah, I will. ah I got to take a few more readings on it and just see, especially like when I'm pushing a hard cut and it's generating like... Smoke off the cut.
jamie peacock: heat
Curt: yeah with some actual heat then i'm really curious to see what it does i don't think it's going to be able to even though this is a like the Fucking expensive filter, and it is built for Swiss lathes?
jamie peacock: yeah
Curt: Um, I'm curious. so We'll see.
jamie peacock: <unk>s interesting I'm quite curious to see where it where it ends up.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Fuck.
Curt: And it's not the highest, what like the filter missed units. um i think they're also uh they're the royal units here they're the same company they don't get the most fantastical readings. So I wasn't expecting the world.
Curt: Um, But I mean it reflected in the price that you pay for them, too, so
jamie peacock: No, 100%.
Curt: We'll see.
jamie peacock: um
Curt: I'll keep everyone posted.
jamie peacock: Yeah, kind of. Kind of curious to see how that top that goes. because that's one thing like i want to ac the workshop and that's going to be
Curt: Yeah, I think. you've
jamie peacock: Like now we've got all that shit contained.
Curt: Yeah. Yeah, and
jamie peacock: So not ideal.
Curt: I know guys running Swiss machines with... these filters and they say They're like, oh, they're good. But these are people running warehouses. So like you have so much more error.
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: to like exchange you'd be like yeah well you won't notice like you have Like how many. cubic feet or cubic meters of air. You could look you have like... 100 times more than I have.
jamie peacock: Yeah, you're diluting it.
Curt: so like
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: yeah like what i notice if it takes half an hour for me to notice it you might just never notice it in a day of work Because it never can influence the air that bad.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: so Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah, no, 100%.
Curt: We'll see.
jamie peacock: So I'm looking at ah AC units, I shouldn't.
Curt: We'll see
jamie peacock: Um,
Curt: oo
jamie peacock: I should have phoned.
Curt: hu
jamie peacock: insulation foil for the roof i need to find someone to install it is actually what i need Anyway. Um...
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah. So how are you reducing your late cycle times?
Curt: Okay, so that was That was neat. The whole like blowing up drills led me down the path of like, okay, well like I'll put this back on the lathe. And then I was like. Once I saw the finish come back off the lathe, I'm like, oh. I'm like. It's so good. It's so good.
Curt: So then. I'm going to buy some fancier drills for the mill. Um, that I think will just... work a little bit better. But I'm also going to buy some. they're like fancy titanium drills that are called like called like no ream drills or something like that like they're meant to produce just a really nice surface finish
jamie peacock: Okay.
Curt: um I guess like a couple of the. They're ground differently to help. produce more accurate holes. Anyways. I'm gonna buy one of those in my final size. And. drill on the lathe to see if I can get around the reaming stage. Because that would be.
Curt: okay as well. And then I, so I was like, i was trying to crunch the math i'm like if i could get rid of the reaming stage And then. Just... clip a little bit of cycle time off this it would it would still compete with the mill in regard to speed because the reaming does take ah a significant amount of time
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: and then like switching from machines like me just handling it like that gives me a little bit of time too So I was like how much cycle can I shave off the lathe? Um, So I read I killed all the like after tool change instead of going to the home position.
Curt: I just. Have it. z backup um because the z is so much faster on my lathe than the x Uh, It's like. at least twice as fast. So I only move in Z. And then I tool change.
jamie peacock: I mean, okay.
Curt: Just like as soon as I have clearance I tool change And then I get right back into the cut and I'm like, same, just doing the small little optimizations of like, let's not move the Z here. or Let's not move the. Because it's always a combo.
Curt: x z move which slows everything down so
jamie peacock: Yes. And...
Curt: So I just did pure Z moves and just like took all I had like some dwells for dumb reasons Took all the dwells out. and just yeah i think i shaved I went from...
Curt: I shaved one minute. off of ah one cycle just by reducing some of the stupidness. and Yeah, I think I shaved like two minutes off of a Like.
Curt: Eight minute cycle. by just getting smarter with the code. So.
jamie peacock: Oh wow.
Curt: That was decent. Yeah, so. Quite happy with that.
jamie peacock: Yeah, that's That's a lot of cycle time for very little effort.
Curt: Totally. Yeah. It took me an hour and I was just like, yeah, don't do this. This is dumb. but just. Do this, do this, do this.
jamie peacock: Yeah, well, I was
Curt: And I could probably still shave a little more, so.
jamie peacock: So I was setting up the the job that's in the good way and I was having bar feeding issues. All I had to do was add like a 0 .25 second delay when we engaged the bar puller.
Curt: Mm hmm.
jamie peacock: we were engaging him in unclamping. but when it engaged it was causing rotation.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: So then as it unclamps, it was pulling the bar of the bar puller.
Curt: Hmm.
jamie peacock: So engage, wait, unclamp, pull. and then it runs perfectly Like stupid little things like that.
Curt: Totally. Totally.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Um... Hmm, interesting.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: I see we are not calling someone out every week.
Curt: Oh.
jamie peacock: Yes. Anyway, I'll deal with that later.
Curt: Sorry friend, we're not calling you out.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: We can call them out like six times right now.
jamie peacock: i'm Sorry. We can, but let me find his actual information and then we'll chat him out like six times next week. um
Curt: It sounds sounds good.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Weird. um Because he came out of the hats, which is only the top tier patrons, but we don't shout him out So I'm kind of trying to figure out the shit's going on
Curt: no
jamie peacock: Hmm, we must have missed him, sorry.
Curt: Wait, was that the was that the gentleman you pulled out of the hat?
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: Uh oh.
jamie peacock: Yeah, I know. So I'm busy looking now on the Patreon. um
Curt: Or maybe his name is different there than it is on the Patreon. and if we've effed up i'm sorry we can refund you your money you'll have to
jamie peacock: Yeah, no. We will... yeah
Curt: Talk to Jamie in South Africa. um You can call his complaint line.
jamie peacock: I will find out what's going on now. I'll get down the coordinates. um Yes, we did the draw build someone that i didn't know was in the top tier patreon list love Sorry, Danica's on the stairs now.
Curt: We're gonna get in trouble.
jamie peacock: Rob. It's fine. We'll chat about it now, Olaf. Let me finish recording the podcast.
Curt: Sorry Rob.
jamie peacock: Professionalism at its best. Um,
Curt: if we've If we've mistakenly not called you out.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: I... We're very sorry.
jamie peacock: Yeah, I feel bad. yes i feel really bad like
Curt: I feel bad too, actually.
jamie peacock: and most yeah Anyway, we we will figure it out.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Um, Yeah, anyway, which one of the three do you want to do you want to cover there, Kurt?
Curt: Oh. Oh, label printers, obviously, because that's like my favorite.
jamie peacock: yeah eleven label printers. I have too many of them and I hate all of them. um I've got a Nimbot, which I think is a South African company that imports in from China. but it only works with the app.
Curt: All right.
jamie peacock: on android does not work with your pc
Curt: Ew.
jamie peacock: Yes, and also you have to make an account to save what you're printing.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: if you want to print it again
Curt: Ugh.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: Even worse.
jamie peacock: that place
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: um so i printed the sample labels for the affectionately called bikini bottoms. um that I sent to EJ.
Curt: Oh, cute.
jamie peacock: The.
Curt: Yeah, I get that.
jamie peacock: yeah they're they're not called that they're called the cleats but uh
Curt: Yeah. No, they're called that now. yeah
jamie peacock: Nope, they're called cleats. um So I printed a label to see if I could get like a label that are locked Star Wars. Stall. That thing. And I can on that printer. It's just going to be horrible to do it on my phone.
Curt: Ugh, okay.
jamie peacock: Yeah, so it is what it is. Like, I have the printer. I can buy a roll of labels and print 100 labels and then just never look at it again.
Curt: Fair, yeah, fair fair.
jamie peacock: Yep. that's probably what I'm going to do. Um,
Curt: Yeah, okay. Yeah fair
jamie peacock: But yeah, trying to find a decent label printer that'll... do what i want and doesn't cost a arm and a leg and will work with a fucking computer Cause that shouldn't be that hard.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Like I don't want to spend a fortune on a label printer, but I'm getting to the point where I'm just going to. Fucking suck it up and bye, brother. and not fuck around.
Curt: Yeah. Yeah.
jamie peacock: because you get what you pay for these kind of things so it might just be a case of suck it up spend the couple hundred dollars on a printer instead of like thirty dollars on a printer and then get the one hundred dollars worth of performance instead of thirty dollars worth of performance
Curt: 100%. Yeah, 100%.
jamie peacock: Yo. i'm just trying to be a cheapskate Um, So I'm trying to Trying to not be a cheapskate.
jamie peacock: Okay, there's one left
Curt: Cool.
jamie peacock: Why is that?
Curt: Yes.
jamie peacock: i was on this computer sorry i saw a horse tooling thing in my tabs i'm like why is this open um yeah last one
Curt: Christmas.
jamie peacock: Still don't have fucking ceiling boards for the office.
Curt: Oh.
jamie peacock: So went I went to Leroy Merlin this week, which is the hardware store. And it was like, where the fuck's my stuff?
Curt: Mm hmm.
jamie peacock: and they're like we can't get hold of the other branch because i went there at like 6 p .m They're open till 7. They can't get all to the branch. So I went back. the next day. Like 4pm. the Fuck some stuff. like no no it's fine we've got all the branch problems to cancel order that side we're going to refund you and we'll process the order here. We've got stock.
jamie peacock: Sweet. i'm like edit extra five boards i want to put them above the elk Sweet -o. about 40 minutes later we finally to get all the paperwork in line go to grab the stock and they have no stock.
jamie peacock: So I'm like motherfuckers.
Curt: No.
jamie peacock: So, like it's fine. Put it through as an order. When it's ready, let me know and I'll come fucking fetch it. So I paid for the additional boards, paid for everything.
Curt: Yeah, yeah
jamie peacock: fucked off get a message the next day your stuff's ready for collection So three days later, I finally go there to pick it up.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: There's no stock.
Curt: Okay. ah ah
jamie peacock: I'm like, what the fuck is going on? So I suppose the guy's like, no, no.
Curt: oh
jamie peacock: They'll order it straight from the warehouse. It'll be here. this week and then they'll send me a message. I'm like, I will fucking believe it when I see it.
Curt: Sure, yeah
jamie peacock: Yeah, because I want to get the fucking office done. like This is getting old now.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Like, I need to get that finished.
Curt: Yeah.
Curt: but
jamie peacock: But yeah, hopefully I'll have ceiling boards this week. and i can enclose that i need to go by some two by fours and just pull the frame quickly um I was going to put.
Curt: h
jamie peacock: two rails and just slap the boards on top but i'm gonna put three trusses effectively and then screw the boards in from below
Curt: Oh, okay.
jamie peacock: I think it'll look neater.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: So we'll do that. Um, But yeah, I need to get the needs to get the office finished because I need Danica to be there and actually do fucking admin shit for me.
Curt: Fair. That helps probably, yeah.
jamie peacock: So, yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah. um Because I end up doing the fucking admin shit myself, and that's a bad plan. um And then I can also move assembly packaging and... complete component storage upstairs and out of the way because right now it is uh in the workshop around stuff which is very less than ideal.
jamie peacock: So trying to just neaten up and sort shit out. But anyway. That is...
Curt: Sweet.
jamie peacock: Yeah. Um, What is in your Google box? Ooh.
Curt: Uh... i think that's how you spell it um i have Lots of fun stuff. um
jamie peacock: How's he does?
Curt: Yeah. ah pocket 4p cases i actually printed one it's just sitting on the printer right now i want something small
jamie peacock: Um...
Curt: Good.
jamie peacock: I'm literally looking it up right now.
Curt: Yeah, I wanted something small that I could just put in my pocket so like when I'm for the reason the camera is it doesn't have a case um which is probably fine but i'm like Yeah, like yours comes with a case.
Curt: Mine doesn't come with one of those and anymore. um I just wanted to...
jamie peacock: that's annoy
Curt: protect the gimbal. ah
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: And. ah So anyways, I found something. ah Like I said, obviously it's printed. Just sitting there. I have to play with it after here. Drills for obvious reasons. uh ocd boots i found one boot which are the keen pyrenes or something like that they're my favorite boot they're leather they fit me like a glove it's like they're built for me so i buy them and then they're all leather and then they eventually the Grips wear out, and then I buy another pair. So anyways, I just bought another pair because I was i wore my other ones out.
Curt: uh jackets because i don't have a nice winter jacket so i just bought something a little bit nicer Once again, something beefy, so I don't have to just worry about it. I went with a... ah Uh...
Curt: car heart one. So I'll let you people know. I don't know.
jamie peacock: Okay.
Curt: No one cares. um and uh hard drives because i want to add storage with this stupid camera now i'm shooting like hundreds of gigs of video so i'm like oh i'm gonna buy a hard drive i'm like nope no i'm not buying a hard drive not until they're cheap even spinning spinning discs are still like insane i'm like ah how are spinning discs so much money now
jamie peacock: And yeah.
Curt: So.
jamie peacock: It's...
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yum. The computer sector is fucking stupid.
Curt: ah I'm like, okay, I guess I'll just keep burning stuff to like... DVD backups until I Till. Drive prices come down again. Cause like. Yeah, insane. um and I floss my little flashlight. I have a little like Olight i3, a little double it or triple A. I love that light. I bought actually I have like four of them.
Curt: um so i have another one that i'm going to cycle in but i lost my by one that i beat up and i i like the the grossness of it Because it's been dropped so many times, it looks good. Anyway, so I was looking at other flashlights because I just...
Curt: Now I'm like, well, now I can find something different.
jamie peacock: oh
Curt: i was trying to i thought they had a full brass variant but i they don't and then i looked up whyben ah W .Y. Ben. I don't know. it's Another one of those like. Olight. Cheap. cheap light manufacturers, I get just crazy. good quality lights for just insane pricing so Yeah.
Curt: Anyway. How about yours? What's in your Google box?
jamie peacock: They are AK side rails. because uh gonna look at making those uh dhl because i've been tracking a parcel mtt because for some reason my phone when i dial the the number It comes up. What's the name?
jamie peacock: but is not saved on my fucking phone so i have to go to google and find My aluminum supply is number every time. because I've never saved it.
Curt: Oh, okay.
jamie peacock: Yeah, really fucking frustrating.
Curt: Okay.
jamie peacock: uh looking up t15 uh torx driver bits And... how big has been big ben compared to the statue of liberty
Curt: Mmm.
jamie peacock: because I was curious. And for reference, it's bigger. That's why it's called Big Ben.
Curt: Fair.
jamie peacock: Yes.
Curt: ma'am
jamie peacock: by like a whole three meters. or 10 feet. If you're a weird American.
Curt: That is... Out. That is. that makes yeah the statue of liberty is smaller than i thought but that makes me I think Big Ben is way bigger than I thought, so yeah, kind of cool.
jamie peacock: Dude. Fucking whoever takes pictures of... uh statue liberty should be a professional dick pic photographer
Curt: ah
jamie peacock: They make that thing look fucking massive.
Curt: Dude totally. oh i thought it was enormous till i saw i'm like that's it way out there that's not As big as I thought.
jamie peacock: Yeah.
Curt: I thought it would be monstrous.
jamie peacock: Like we went past it. I'm like, this thing is very inadequate.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: Look.
Curt: Yeah, it's... Yeah, it's...
jamie peacock: Fucking miniature. Um,
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: But yeah, that that's all that's in there. In the car. box. Where can people find you and your things?
Curt: Cool.
jamie peacock: Good.
Curt: Getfoundedmachine .com. All roads point somewhere. You can buy our shirts.
jamie peacock: yes
Curt: so You can buy our wares. We probably have mugs now. I don't know. You can buy all kinds of weird stuff. Ooh, the Spectrum one. I like that one.

Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: other people's shirts.
Curt: Yeah, I'm not even wearing our shirts like a slob but
jamie peacock: I wore my subtract shirt, but it's made for people with small arms. so the sleeves are tight on my arms which is a bit annoying
Curt: Ooh. Big guns flexing through.
jamie peacock: Not even. Just fucking small.
Curt: No.
jamie peacock: I'm holes in the shirt.
Curt: Hmm. Oh really? Oh weird. Okay.
jamie peacock: Yeah, like all the other shirts are loose -ish on my arms. Those things are tight.
Curt: Yeah.
jamie peacock: It's a muscle shirt.
Curt: Hmm.
jamie peacock: Makes me look like tartan.
Curt: Sick. Yeah.
jamie peacock: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Still need to make a fourth axis fixture for drilling the things, which is going to be fucking terrifying.
Curt: hey
jamie peacock: As far as I recall, an EI -11 collet. does technically clear where I have to draw. So, yeah.
Curt: ah
jamie peacock: Should be fun. Charge them extra to drill four extra holes. so I guess I have to drill four extra holes now.
Curt: yeah Yeah, fair.
