jamie peacock: Welcome to The Loan Machinist, where it's just you, the work, and the machines. What have you got going on this week Kurt?

Curt: ah This week, I'm going to talk about how Mills... Make good lathes. Just update from last week. ah More 3D printing fun, because I seem to just continuously be able to fill that thing with printing.

Curt: Funness? And up. Tumblr magic. Why not? Let's pick her. There's lots of cool topics. How about you, Master Jamie?

jamie peacock: I see that.

Curt: What are you going to talk about?

jamie peacock: um We're going to... Talk about how I had to speed run some anchor point bodies this week. um Some interesting... Things happening with my hydraulic holders on new ones. um and then yeah i want to get into packaging and printing and sourcing and whatnot but Yeah, that's for later in the podcast. How are you this fine day, good?

Curt: I'm doing great. I'm doing great. I was like sleeping before the podcast started. So like I'm kind of feel like I'm waking up and like. You know when you wake up and you're just like, I don't know. where i am in the world that's exactly i feel like i'm just like this is a new save i have no idea where i'm doing so anyways my brain's still getting up to speed Oh.

Curt: How are you?

jamie peacock: yeah that's Yeah, I'm good. and Took yesterday off for the most part. uh we had to go to a photo shoot with the doggos and then

Curt: Mm.

jamie peacock: Went and bought a door for the office. Um, Yeah, to finish up the officer.

Curt: Photos.

jamie peacock: It wins and drops it often.

Curt: Photoshoot with a dog?

jamie peacock: Yeah, the the dog club had all the owners of Rottweilers bring their Rottweilers. In.

Curt: Oh cool.

jamie peacock: for a photo with all the rottweilers so yeah took the dogs there for like 15 minutes quickly took a picture with them then drove around the block because drax likes being in the car

Curt: Aw.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: Then we went to the hardware store to buy a door and a door frame and some shelving and stuff for the office. Went and dropped it off, measured all my material that arrived on Friday so that I know what I need to run today because I'm going in today.

jamie peacock: Um... And then came back and just... i did a bit of work but it can't work and we just said cheesy and watch tv and took a day off.

Curt: Nice.

jamie peacock: So yeah. bit of a day off yesterday um But yeah, we didn't have a 15 -minute power nap, which... Something I got from my brother. He's like, you set a 15 minutes alarm. You go lay on the bed and you... Just lay there and chill.

jamie peacock: try and sleep, but 15 minutes is long enough. that you can get a bit of rest, but not so long that you wake up. Feeling sleepy.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: like I got literally going, I'll put a t -shirt over my eyes and just. try and like Calm the mind and... You can doze off for a few minutes. When you wake up, you're refreshed, but you're not. like you've been sleeping for two hours.

Curt: No, not like me where I'm just like what end is up?

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: i don't I don't sleep in the afternoon because if I do, then I wake up at like 6 p .m. and I want to murder bitches.

Curt: Oh yeah.

jamie peacock: because I was sleeping while the fuck did you wake me up kind of story. Um. So yeah, I've learned. 15 minutes. it's enough but it needs to be 15 minutes of undisrupted like danica was trying to lie on the bed with me i'm like please fuck off now Because every time you move it takes me out of it.

Curt: Yeah, fair.

jamie peacock: Yeah. So she got very upset and told her to fuck off so that I can sleep. um But don't.

Curt: Heh.

jamie peacock: You lay there 15 minutes and then... Yep, refreshed. ready to carry on with the day.

Curt: I like to play that, but like... An hour and a half. That's like, then I feel refreshed. but that's that's so that's

jamie peacock: yeah I find that then I wake up and I'm like, you are the smoker. this evening.

Curt: if i If I hit it right, I'm good. If I hit it wrong, you're just like, whoopsie.

jamie peacock: It's a hot risk I ruled.

Curt: 100%. Oh.

jamie peacock: So, let's leave the first topic on your side right until the end. Let's bury the lead hard.

Curt: Oh. Yeah, I don't care. yeah ah i'm here I'm here all day.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: so Ha ha.

jamie peacock: um I don't even know what I want to...

Curt: Uh...

jamie peacock: what I want to hit there on your side.

Curt: Let's see. I've... Uh... How about...

jamie peacock: Let's ignore everyone and start with the AR topic.

Curt: No, let's ah make our friends do better and talk about the firm vice.

jamie peacock: Oh, we can do that.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: So...

Curt: Because I think me and you are both jazzed about it.

jamie peacock: Dude. yeah so anyone who doesn't know joshua from firmworks We had him on as a guest a while ago. Um... he's just released the firmvast mini It's... he's using that to try and get away from job shop work and go full -time work holding So...

jamie peacock: Anyone looking for a little boss, please head over and go and have a look. uh his first batch is up for sale now his paypal is finally working Um,

Curt: a

jamie peacock: Yeah, he had a bit of dumb shit there. I'm trying to convince them to make them all Anchor Point compatible. Because why not?

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: Good luck.

Curt: Yeah, I was. i was wondering if

jamie peacock: It's three extra holes.

Curt: i i bugged him about it and uh he's like oh dude he's like it's it's gonna happen then he did a story that said it's gonna happen so ah i wonder if he's planning it on this pre -sale or if he's doing it in the future or

jamie peacock: Yeah.

jamie peacock: So...

jamie peacock: ah I've ordered two already and mine will be Anchor Point compatible.

Curt: Oh, okay. well that changes things.

jamie peacock: Yes. um So were go to we're going to turn down some pulse duds to 14mm long, the threads. and then he's got 15 millimeters in the bottom of the body so then he'll thread mill uh m12 hole in there

Curt: Oh, okay.

jamie peacock: and it'll just be a short pull stud it's nowhere near the limits of the threads of the pull stud so It'll be fun.

Curt: Sure.

jamie peacock: I mean... the only only thing it's missing is the pokeo call because the vast is narrower than the pokeo call so that's just it is what it is

Curt: Oh, okay, yeah.

jamie peacock: Um, But then the vice drops straight on the anchor point. which is... really cool.

Curt: It's more narrow than that. Man, that thing is... Tiny.

jamie peacock: It's... 75 miles wide I think. so it doesn't fully enclose the The Pokeo call.

Curt: Alright, okay, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah. so you can't put a pin in or anything but that's fine just label the front of your vice and you'll be fine

Curt: Well, typically, you know where the like you know where the tightening spot is going to be so if you put it

jamie peacock: ah No, you don't because it's on both sides. on his boss.

Curt: Oh. I didn't know it was on both sides.

jamie peacock: yeah so you'll know when you go to tartan and and it goes the wrong way

Curt: Okay. Well that makes it. Fun.

jamie peacock: um

Curt: but

jamie peacock: But yeah, I'm just going to laser front front on mine and then problem solved.

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah, exactly. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah. So yeah, Joshua and I are busy chatting about that.

Curt: Cleaver.

jamie peacock: And then we're also, people are asking for grip and jaw options. on his Because his big vas has the serrated jaws.

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: So he's considering adding that as an option, but he's also considering making insert jaws

Curt: Huge. Yeah.

jamie peacock: that take a certain product I'm busy working on.

Curt: Okay. Mmm.

jamie peacock: Yeah, so we're busy chatting in the background about that. Um, So far... Yo. So far I've got three variants of that. So we've got yeah

Curt: I was.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: I say, i when I looked at that, um and just for... Clearness, folks. like we're We're not paid. We don't have any strange agreements. a friend and he's making a cool product and we both need vices um i didn't realize that you could also like Dual station them.

Curt: like with a little middle and then you I was like...

jamie peacock: This is Julia.

Curt: oh and then it's self -centering so then your middle is kind of like you can fixture your middle and have like a

jamie peacock: Peace.

Curt: repeatable I was like, this is... Frickin' sick.

jamie peacock: So... The dual station, this is what I'm excited about. um i was actually planning on putting those on a riser initially but now they're gonna just go straight to anchor points And I can run for 16 hours unattended with the with two of those vases for making these inserts.

Curt: Yeah. That's awesome.

jamie peacock: Yeah. So that is super, super pumped to get my hands on those vases. um like they're really cute little bosses they're self -centering you can run it as a dual station or a single self -centering bus.

jamie peacock: Very, very, very excited for that. uh I've been needing you. new Op1 vices for the longest time. and these repeat pretty freaking well on their soft draw system as well so it's a quick change software system on them

Curt: yeah yeah i i did see that and i was like i wonder how yeah i was wondering how but same thing for the purposes i'll have like

jamie peacock: So, yeah.

jamie peacock: Out.

Curt: With the center not moving?

jamie peacock: Exactly. Yeah.

Curt: It matters not. Yeah.

jamie peacock: um So i I saw how he's doing it now. and i'll freaking start I need to get him to send me. some extra carriers open It's not a carrot, it's the, what, the dove wedge. but i need to send me a couple extras of those so i can have soft drawers pre -built And not.

jamie peacock: Be... taking the The Dove Witch out of Mar. Out of my hard jaws, basically.

Curt: All right. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. I get you.

jamie peacock: So he's got a heart he's got to insert that bolt into the bottom of the jaw that interfaces with the dovetail. It's really, really clever.

Curt: Right. Yeah, that's cool that's so cool

jamie peacock: So yeah, looking forward to looking forward to getting my hands on those. thatll in got The pre -orders now. He's aiming to ship at the end of November. so we will We will see.

Curt: okay sick i might have to get on that priority before this airs then because hopefully we squash it for him but then then we can selfishly take what we need dan

jamie peacock: Hopefully sells out, yes. um yeah well that's the thing like i said to him the other day I'm like, give me information. Tell me how much it's going to be. I will give you money. Like, the only reason I paid with PayPal is because I had money in my PayPal. So I'm like, I don't want to bring it.

Curt: Gotcha.

jamie peacock: yeah then put in my card and then pay with my card like straight out of paypal um But yeah, I'm like dude I need Vasas. Let me support you. that you can if you want to go full -time making workholding go for it like i'm trying to make that pivot now Um,

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: with adding products and whatnot i've got the job shop work that i don't really get involved with anymore so like all the laid stuff which is great. ah it fuels me being able to push the work holding stuff harder.

Curt: Yeah, totally. Total ends.

jamie peacock: Yeah, so... i'm like fair dude all boats rise with the tide like if he needs inserts there you go like i've got a cad pack waiting to send too much on chat room before i send it to him like integrate it with your products i'm going to be running these things Yeah, I need to figure out packaging, but if he needs inserts...

jamie peacock: it's fine i'll run them the the goal is to run these inserts at night and then Prep them they go to heat treat they come back they get tumbled they get packed and or they get tumbled, lasered, and packed.

jamie peacock: because I decided I'm going to laser on the max torque. for the screw

Curt: Probably smart.

jamie peacock: It's an insert screw young five Newton meters.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Don't overdo it Mark, that is enough talk.

Curt: oh good proper units too yeah

jamie peacock: Yo. Yes, obviously.

Curt: Uh -huh.

jamie peacock: I also want to label them on the top so you know which version you've got by looking at the top of the insert.

Curt: Yeah, I mean, lasering is free at that point.

jamie peacock: because I'm thinking...

Curt: so

jamie peacock: Yeah. I'm thinking of going ABC. Um... Aluminium Botting. and curved.

Curt: o

jamie peacock: Yes, so I've got one. So there's... there's the aluminium one which is uh the one i actually have prototypes of it's got three pretty large serrated sections for those who are looking On the video vi it's not going to focus is it?

jamie peacock: Weep. No, anyway.

Curt: Probably not.

jamie peacock: three large se Three large patches of contact. Um... then there's the boxing one which is Three sets of like. They come to a point. so they'll bite in with less force.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: And then there's the curved one which has... pretty big teeth on the sides but a cutout in the middle And the... invariable grip between a one inch and a three inch round and engage.

jamie peacock: decently well and in that. So there'll be some manufacturing and some testing going on in the coming. coming days. but yeah quite excited for the different variant i've got some of them off at heat treat now

Curt: hello

jamie peacock: for testing over the weekend

Curt: Mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: and then I'll get them back on Monday afternoon and weekend. start playing with them.

Curt: Clever. i do like that i actually i wasn't i was uh i pulled for the first time ever i pulled a part out of one of my uh vices

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: uh uh flex your device from from f flux there because i hold i'm holding round.

jamie peacock: oh

Curt: like pinching it. and i'm only pinching it by like 20 of the material and it's like uh what are like

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: 12 millimeter or something. Some esoteric fractional size. Um, ah So I don't have a lot to... per and i mo pin pinching by the aluminum soft jaws um and since i'm pitching two of them uh If there's any tolerance, like I try to keep it within about a thou cutoff length.

Curt: But if one is short, and I think this is what happened in this instance. I think one was a couple thou short. I think one was a couple thou long. Um, and they just got paired together so then that was the worst case and i just I don't snug them down like to... the end of the world. that is Just...

Curt: Put them snug.

jamie peacock: enough to hold it you.

Curt: And anyway. enough to hold it so i'm not messing up the the soft jaw super bad and it's been fine i've made like hundreds and hundreds through it um and then this one just pulled out and it was so like I could tell it was so not.

Curt: aggressively pinched that when it pulled out it didn't even hurt the soft jaw like it's completely fine but your little teeth would be perfect in that instance where it would just bite the material just slightly and that'd be all I need.

jamie peacock: Oh, yeah.

jamie peacock: 100%.

Curt: So.

jamie peacock: So I've got... um What do you call him? negative volume models. so i've got three variants so the maximum engagement on these teeth is 0 .75 of a millimeter of Bart.

Curt: Right.

jamie peacock: but I've got negative volumes that'll do 0 .5 and 0 .25.

Curt: Yeah. yeah

Curt: Oh, clever.

jamie peacock: So you can Position it to the edge of your pocket. Say 0 .25 that when you tighten your vice, the teeth will only indent 0 .25. because they only protrude the edge of your cut like

Curt: lights Yeah.

jamie peacock: it's all these small little things like for different weird applications because Also... Put these in your, in your pellets. to grip your material. positively.

Curt: 100%.

jamie peacock: I mean...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, EJ is busy running into shit. I don't know if you've been seeing his stories. throwing parts out of his fixture, his whole Saunders plate ended up skewed on his table. because a part got stuck between the Z -Way cover and the pallets.

Curt: oh shit

jamie peacock: and push the whole table.

Curt: Oh no.

jamie peacock: skew Also on displays.

Curt: Oh, no.

jamie peacock: So on Friday night we were troubleshooting that, trying to figure out what the shit's going on.

Curt: Oh no.

jamie peacock: Turns out his material came in 25 thou under. And the pitbulls he's using have 16 ,000 travel. So... isza he's like he's gonna run the of the five bars he's got two of them are undersized so i said to him why don't you just move your uh your Fuck. about the other ones. It's not the pit bulls, the talons.

jamie peacock: Make another pocket of for the talons that's over 30 foul.

Curt: Mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: That you just move them over and that you could do something similar with these little inserts in your top your fixture You could array them. with set offsets so if your stock is a different size you just move the insert over

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: because op one pallet is a freaking ball egg because of material. Never comes in the wrong sauce.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: like when I was making Sir? I tend to... If I'm gonna fixture of stuff on a fixture. with pitbulls or whatever I tend to order plates cut to size and the plate thickness goes in line with the pit bull. So... It's pretty constant the thickness.

jamie peacock: If not, then I have to do an off -zero where I make all the material the right thickness so the pitbull will actually grab it.

Curt: Yep.

jamie peacock: And jump. Don't want to be doing up. pop extras so i'm going to just put in some little vases and then i have op1 solutions

Curt: I do like this, yeah.

jamie peacock: That is my workflow currently is All my op -ons go through my self -centering vases. because then i don't give a shit if it's cut wrong cut skew out i just don't care it gets held i machine it and then everything from that point is clamping on known geometry

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: Well, I can even... Even with your... Well, you could do it just like with all the... Fifth Act, this guy's dues. Like I could. I could prep my material. put it in like a vice that just like like Gronk on it. to give it little clinks.

Curt: And then when I put it in the fixture, it's just like... Lightly snug it.

jamie peacock: yes

Curt: To go into the little.

jamie peacock: So that's...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: something someone else said with these inserts you can in your voice you tighten it down and then you back it off and just nip it up and then you've indented the material in your vice but you're holding with a little bit of force so you're not flexing the material when you machine the part

Curt: Totally.

jamie peacock: Like this.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: There's so many like... stupid little tricks you can pull. It's... Yeah.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Quite impressive.

Curt: I like it. I like it.

jamie peacock: Yeah. But, yeah, we... We are now... Uh... um We need to go get material on Monday. But yeah, I'm going to probably make her. Bunch of these.

Curt: Those are so cute. I like how small they are.

jamie peacock: I ordered some insert screws.

Curt: They're so useful.

jamie peacock: I ordered a few.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: 100. Insert screws.

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: I'm busy chatting to the Chanas about... flag ranges for it.

Curt: Oh, okay.

jamie peacock: Because I want to make it like you buy you buy a pack of four and it's whatever price comes with the flag wrench Comes with some NCCs.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: And then if you want to go up to 10 or more. you just you don't get additional flag ranges you get the inserts cheaper

Curt: Yeah, that's smart.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: That's nice.

jamie peacock: um and then I was John. we'll we'll get to the packaging of these a bit later on because that's a long ass topic that i have uh I need input on.

Curt: Interesting.

jamie peacock: Yes, so we'll we'll come back to that. uh but yeah the the little insert each all things are quite God -freaking -sweet. I'm looking forward to testing them this week.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: actually testing them. I've got enough stuff for. I bought six screws locally. they are so stupidly expensive locally. I think I paid more for those six screws than I paid for the 400 screws I bought.

Curt: Yeah, that's... How it works, yeah.

jamie peacock: yes And I bought... 12 .9 grade screws. they insert screws but they're 12 .9 grades so they They will be softer than the... Insert. The inserts are going to be 58 to 60 Rockwell.

Curt: Okay. That was a hard.

jamie peacock: Yeah, so they're gonna be fucking hard, yeah.

Curt: Yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: i was chatting to the the heat treat i'm like what can we achieve here Fuck. do we need to worry about the thing cracking he's like nah you should be fine So yeah. I'm waiting on a long chat term. And then he ended up talking about China and all sorts of other fun things.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Because that's what happens when I go visit people.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: We talk shit for like an hour. But y 'all, anyway.

Curt: Weird. I would never have guessed.

jamie peacock: Yeah. So back to your, back to your AR data crunching.

Curt: so

jamie peacock: Tell me more, tell me more.

Curt: Okay, so that's like i I... I... It'll be in this video. that i Actually, I think the video will come up before the podcast. So if you watch my videos, then you don't even have to listen to this podcast. Turn it off. Hmm.

Curt: No don't do that. Me and Jamie need your money. um

jamie peacock: yes

Curt: um So anyway, yeah, I was trying to figure out how to like. i was I don't know if I touched on it last week. I think I might have about. using it to parse the orders because my Shipping softwares.

jamie peacock: Yes. Did you pass the variance?

Curt: Yeah, okay.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah, yeah. Parsivarians, because that was annoying. And then I realized... Like 900 people sent me emails. I've been like, oh, by the way, can I have like a couple O -rings? And I'm like, well, they just bought like whatever, you know. They bought two pens for me. I'm like, I'm pretty... I'm happy to throw in a couple of O -rings and no charge. Like you'd feel like a dick when you'd be like, oh yeah, three more dollars, please. like it's like No, it's fine.

Curt: Um, So i have a lot of the I have a lot of those. And most people, honestly, were like, oh, I'm happy to pay. I'm like, I know you are, but like don't. Don't sweat it. Like that's pretty easy on my side.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Um, Anyway, trying to keep track of all those. My brain was starting to bleed because I'm like, how am I going to remember this when I get to the order without having to always be like, okay, cross check. Does this order come up? Because this order has to do anyways. I took all that data, wrote it out in a list. um And being like, you know, these customers want this. These customers need address changes. These customers. want. whatever, me to try to change the shipping carrier or the time of shipping. I put all that information into my...

Curt: Same. Like.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: chat that I was using. to do the variant things. So now when I make. product like i just chipped out a bunch of them i just tell it Like i I tell Mr. Claude, I'm like, hey, I made.

Curt: Blank number of. This style pen. Um, who should I ship to? And it like, it's doing all my math behind the scenes of like trying to get as many order fulfilled as possible. And then also reminding me like, okay, you could fulfill all these orders. And on this order, remember to include. Two extra O -rings. I'm like. oh sick so now i don't have to remember it i just have to double kind of double check that it's working out. Um,

Curt: so i spot checked it it in a few areas and i'm like it's doing a good job like it's it's not hallucinating it is using kind of like uh Um, Like, what are the... um The notebook.

Curt: kind of style of like where it's actually using a table of data as opposed to being like

jamie peacock: yeah

Curt: Uh...

jamie peacock: Looking on the internet for the day that you are.

Curt: Yeah, I'd be like, yeah, set a timer for one minute. It's like, all right, timer's up. It's like, well. no you didn't actually do it you just you're using anyway so yeah it's

jamie peacock: so Count these bars, yeah.

Curt: yeah you Yeah, exactly.

jamie peacock: but yeah.

Curt: so it's working pretty good for that and i'm like oh okay so let's That's been nice. And I guess that's the magic of. What? machines are good for is just

jamie peacock: Um...

Curt: That kind of crap.

jamie peacock: Have you... bought from pfg stones from Spencer.

Curt: I have not. Nope.

jamie peacock: Okay. PFG stands for Pretty Fucking Great.

Curt: Right.

jamie peacock: Um... But yeah, his order arrived. I ordered while I was in the US. They arrived here. um Because it was like... $20 more to ship a Tian that I don't have to stress anyway. It arrived. And in the box.

jamie peacock: He's got a sticky label. with the order. Prince of Orleans. So when he's when he win he I assume when the our human order comes through it prints the packing list.

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: and prints the shipping label all at once.

Curt: Mm -mm.

jamie peacock: And then he goes and packs, he just throws the packing label into the box and then puts the stripping label on it.

Curt: Mm.

jamie peacock: I kind of. want to do something like that. That it's generating a...

Curt: Oh, that's...

jamie peacock: this is your packing list.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Like currently I just printed out on a A4 page. um and i use it internally but i kind of want to print it on it because then it's smaller and it can go in. Like... okay cool everything's in the box throw the thing in the box kind of story

Curt: Yeah, I

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: I... i mean the the software i use i do this because same thing i have to like just to make customs clearance easier. I print like the order value.

jamie peacock: You need a commercial invoice.

Curt: Yeah. And then I have, I get it to print a pick list and I get it to print an order summary. So when I'm going, same thing when it's like.

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: I see the label. And i can I can couple it. to just be directly on like a four by six label. So then you have like. the shipping data and then below it you have the pick list and below that you have whatever you want.

jamie peacock: Your know customs and voice, yeah. Because currently...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Currently I am... printing that packing the order when I generate the shipping data but when i process the shipment uh through tunnel it prints out my FedEx label, my commercial invoice and...

jamie peacock: I give two copies now to FedEx and done. Problem solved.

Curt: Hmm. Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: ah also I've got a exporter code so it makes it super easy to export stuff Like the guy comes, checks, I call it's commercial and he just goes.

Curt: Gotcha.

jamie peacock: it doesn't need copies of ids and shit like that because if you don't have a export code you need a copy of your ID with every Order going out.

Curt: Oh bummer. Haha.

jamie peacock: Yeah, that South African customs being full of shit. Um, But yeah, we've got we shipped a bunch of orders this week. it was great. Um, and tunnel now integrates with shopify so you literally just say

Curt: Sick.

jamie peacock: Book shipments added. pulls in all the data that the customer supplied. You don't have to copy and paste it in because that's what I used to have to do.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: And that freaking sucked.

Curt: Yeah, that sucks. Yeah.

jamie peacock: So I've been looking at thermal printers, like a label printer for printing shipping labels and for printing, I want to print some smaller labels. potentially for packing packing stuff.

Curt: Oh, yeah. the

jamie peacock: So yeah, been looking.

Curt: They're worth their weight in gold, like, immediately.

jamie peacock: Yeah. I need to know which flavour you've got. Because I assume yours is not shit.

Curt: No, I just bought like... ah Mine's like a... mu meb ben M -U -N -B -Y -N. Because Zebra can suck a...

jamie peacock: okay

Curt: Big. Whatever.

jamie peacock: So, y 'all.

Curt: with the way they went.

jamie peacock: I was looking at This is a brand telly

Curt: So.

jamie peacock: it's chinese chinese printer

Curt: Sure.

jamie peacock: it's it is literally like under a hundred dollars all bought if i'll throw it in the bin

Curt: I think, yeah, I think I paid a hundred something Canadian for mine and I put. Thousands and thousands of I slow it slow way down because they will print stupid fast. They'll print like a label in a second

jamie peacock: Yeah, it'll do like 150...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: labels the minutes it's like no thanks

Curt: Yeah, just be like... woo woo woo and they're the quality is like it's okay but it's it's thermal right there it's so I slowed mine way down, which is still like...

jamie peacock: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yes. slow down.

Curt: A label takes two seconds or three seconds. um But you get like. Really crisp quality and it just...

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: Nicer. So. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, I've got a bunch of things I want to print labels for. so I think they can go in the upstairs area.

Curt: Mm hmm. Yep.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Totally worth it.

jamie peacock: just as part of part of the process. Um.

Curt: I would have suggested a like a zebra like a while back because they ruled the industry until they made that like you have to buy our paper or nothing works. And it's like. And like.

jamie peacock: ah fun

Curt: No. Jump off a bridge. No one wants that.

jamie peacock: Well speaking of that, have you seen what's happened to the Dobby? This week.

Curt: The Dobby.

jamie peacock: Adobe.

Curt: Oh, a oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: Cheese. So LTT put a video up last night. of having the guys try the knockoff Photoshop.

Curt: Yeah, yeah

jamie peacock: And literally when he he bought it for $70 and now it's free. um And. the the actual professionals tried it and fucking interesting like adobe shot themselves in the foot um Sony is getting boycotted hard.

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: Uh,

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: They added...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: 14 days if you don't connect to the internet within 14 days all your games stop working You have to ping their server every 14 days.

Curt: okay

jamie peacock: It's like, cool. If buying is not owning, piracy is not theft. Yeah.

Curt: 100%. I love that one so much.

jamie peacock: Uh... Yeah. Well, after last week's...

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: I think it was last week when I watched FIFA Vendetta. Fucking, uh...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Governments should fear fear their people.

Curt: Mm -hmm

jamie peacock: Fucking companies should fear their customers. There are way more of them than there are of companies.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: like

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: don't be a dickhead or especially at this age like I reckon. There's going to be a lot of obviously. You're paying for Adobe and it's got all the... du support and updates and shit, but...

jamie peacock: Be a dickhead and we'll just make ourselves. Look.

Curt: It. in a software world this yeah i'd be shaking in my boots because same thing it's just like

jamie peacock: Yeah.

jamie peacock: 100%.

Curt: Someone vibe codes your software. It's like that's insane

jamie peacock: Yeah. Well, that you look at Otter's pricing. They came down to the anti -vibe code tier because... It's now cheap enough that...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I'm not going to vibecoat it. It's not worth my time to vibecoat it. So...

Curt: Mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: i just pay for it that's fine like Yeah, it's... You've got to get very competitive. or be very entrenched. at this point.

Curt: Yeah, exactly. Yeah. i'd I.

jamie peacock: It's a very I was listening to parts departments. And Jen was saying they haven't used Fusion in like two years. Because they've got a product line. And the things that vary is the length of the shelf.

jamie peacock: So they've got... tools that they made that generate the g code that they need for their different products. So they go and they type in the shelf is this wide, the shelf is this long. generates the G -code and the G -code runs on their machine.

jamie peacock: Um, and I was like, it's a very interesting thing, making your own custom CAM software effectively. But you've got a product line that is. The same every time.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: So it makes sense. but um we We live in very interesting times. Let's put it that way.

Curt: Yeah, the Adobe one that one blew my mind when I saw I just saw a few videos on that and I was like really I'm just like oh shit

jamie peacock: Danik has been going on about it for the last like two or three days, and then I saw the LTT video yesterday. I'm like, okay. obviously this is getting some serious traction. Let's see what what... they have to say.

jamie peacock: Third job.

Curt: Adobe's always ah been like that. i like They've always been kind of that company, though.

jamie peacock: Tulip Dome. Yeah.

Curt: like It's just been like. Yeah. Ha ha.

jamie peacock: Yeah, they've always been the Um, But speaking of companies that are not err... Um... Freddy. so

Curt: oo

jamie peacock: As I think. many of our followers know, I won a Freddy.

Curt: Mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: A big Freddy. And then I was like, well. I don't need a Big Freddy. So let's play it together. And I'm getting a smaller Freddy. but that leaves a bit of spare budget.

jamie peacock: So I'm getting two. and one of them is going to go to one of our Patreons.

Curt: no

Curt: Yay!

jamie peacock: Sir? Yeah, the getting this all worked out. Has been an absolute fucking ball ache. Um, The gist of it is...

jamie peacock: Join the Patreon! at any tier. There will be a thing going out to all the tiers. to enter. um More info to come in like the next two weeks or so. along with pictures of the fancy fancy fancy um The giveaway is probably going to go on for about three or four weeks.

jamie peacock: but uh yeah there will be some information coming up on the patreon being a little bit closed up about it still till we've got all the logistics figured out But yeah, go join the Patreon. If you want a chance at a Freddy.

jamie peacock: MicroPlus. uh in a lovely black with a lone machinist logo and orange on the inside

Curt: Sick. that's so cool

jamie peacock: Yes, awesome on doing the draw the same way they did the draw that I won. using the Freddie.

Curt: Haha. cool Fuck it up. Yeah. yeah Cool.

jamie peacock: Yep. That's going to be great. But yeah, go join. There will be an email going out with what the requirements are. And then... Yeah, but join in the meantime. And speaking of patrons, we have a bunch of them.

jamie peacock: we have a whole bunch of new ones as well Um, The Patreons.

Curt: whoo

jamie peacock: make the wheels on the minecart go round and round.

Curt: Ooh, minecart again. Right on.

jamie peacock: Yes. Um, Yeah, there's a speaking of minecarts, there is some plans afoot for your picture with you in a minecart.

Curt: oh no

jamie peacock: Yes, trying to convince AJ to make when when Mongo loads a pallet.

Curt: Oh no.

jamie peacock: to go pick up and then dance you around. while the machine machines the pallet.

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: Yeah, so we have... ah We have many tiers of Patreons. Anyone above the $6 tier gets access to the after show every week where Kurt and I ramble about random shit usually. Um, All the top tier patrons, they get a shout out every week.

jamie peacock: This week we have got some new patrons. And that. Those include Greg from Frogtown Manufacturing, Tux Garage, and Freaky Clamor. Thank you guys for joining the Patreon.

Curt: Sick.

jamie peacock: And then I... the list which is now missing the first one which is like seriously throwing my brain for a loop But anyway, the top tier patrons. Luke from Fantastic, AJ from Subtract Manufacturing, Jason S, EJ from Nocturnal Welding, The Aussie Machinist, Christian Olsen, Charles Watt. Carl from Cursed Machine, Matt from Offworld Gear, Alex B.

jamie peacock: John from 2SIM Performance and Engine Tricks. Matt from Modern Fuel, Josh from Latent Machine, Greg from Tabletop Machine Shop. Ben from Prickly Pear Prototypes, Jess from Data Proto. tux garage also known as plastic man and freaky climber thank you guys for your patronage and i thank you to freaky glamour for the kurt cutouts

Curt: ah Okay.

jamie peacock: Because he's the one who made it happen, yes. So I will give you his details. um but yeah thank you patrons you make the wheels on the train go round and round and i'm making uh NTS 2028, the plan's already afoot.

jamie peacock: See ya. Thank you very much. and They will be. Afridi to every one of you guys. But yeah, anyone on the Patreon will be eligible for that if you do all the other things that are required. um but yeah having it open to any tier including the free tier circumvents some legal issues we were facing

Curt: Oh, okay, okay.

jamie peacock: Yes, because if it's a paid ti it's if it's only for the paid tiers, it's considered a... is considered gambling.

Curt: ah Okay.

jamie peacock: Yes. Also, it's my fucking 3D.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: I'll give it to whoever the fuck I want. Fuck.

Curt: Well, yeah, kind of. right Like, yeah, that's...

jamie peacock: Locked. Yeah, so... ah The plan is Patreon. Join the Patreon. um yeah there'll be some more information coming out there the guys i chat to on the discord kind of know what's happening there as well Um,

jamie peacock: Yo. so If you want, there will be there will be a thing going on in the next week or so. I just want to figure out all the legal crap. and then we can we can get the ball rolling on that.

Curt: Yeah, sick. Okay, cool.

jamie peacock: but yeah so trying to trying to drive the patreon

Curt: Well, thank and thank thanks for doing that. cause like yeah you could you could have just claimed it for yourself or whatever so yeah It was cool.

jamie peacock: Yeah. Yeah, well, that was the thing. like I could just pick somebody, but I want to try. Like. Let's see if we can get the Patreon to cover the trip to INTS in 2028. entirely.

Curt: we Yeah, that'd be awesome.

jamie peacock: It'll be freaking great. That'll be that'll be wicked. luck Because you're not... Chat on the weekends. Um, I think we're going to switch to Riverside. Riverside's not that expensive. That's all that comes out of the Patreon. is the Riverside and...

jamie peacock: The IMTSs.

Curt: Right. Yeah.

jamie peacock: So yeah, let's hope we can. go ball in and like rent out a hotel whole hotel from IMGS.

Curt: Yeah. And.

jamie peacock: All from the INTS budget.

Curt: Riverside. being podcasting software, not a like.

jamie peacock: Uh, yeah.

Curt: Secret. Island that me and Jamie go to

jamie peacock: Our secret meeting spot. Yes.

Curt: Yeah. yeah

jamie peacock: Although, speaking of, let's see if we can get on the riverside in Chicago next time.

Curt: Uh...

jamie peacock: Because it's really pretty.

Curt: Yeah. Sure. No.

jamie peacock: Although I think I'm actually considering reserving the same Airbnb again.

Curt: Sure, yeah.

Curt: Oh yeah, you dig it? You you liked it?

jamie peacock: Dude. it's So the only the only issue with it was that it took us 35, 40 minutes to get to IMTS in the morning. But that's really not. The end of the world, you sit and talk shit.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Lock.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: it's It's not the end of days. um i want to look how many airbnbs are in the area and then basically put it out to the community guys We recommend you book here. It's a five -minute walk to the train station. You hop on the train. It drives you to Chinatown. You jump off. You get on the number 12 bus, and you're at IMTS.

jamie peacock: Like it's really not.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: It's not that inconvenient. And if we're all close together. I think the parties will be insane. like the evening hangouts and stuff.

Curt: Yeah. yeah

jamie peacock: It makes it easy to go for dinner and then all go home in a mob. Not one guy spending an hour and a half getting back to the South. which is what happened with with jason so like yeah i want to try and try and plan like a year out get everyone to put the airbnbs

Curt: Totally. Yeah.

jamie peacock: because it's cool being at the hotel right behind yes but i don't feel like it's necessary

Curt: well i mean if there's enough of us we got like 400 people be like hey we'll book out five floors of your hotel like

jamie peacock: Yeah. you But I mean, du the Airbnb worked out to $60 a person per night.

Curt: right and honestly they know the amount of traffic coming in they're good like They're not going to cut us a deal because they're like, it's going to fill up regardless, so we may as well just...

jamie peacock: Exactly.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: So yeah, like the yeah hotels there are ridiculous. that week specifically. Dana, can I look to the... Three years ago two years ago when everyone for the previous IMTS.

Curt: Right.

jamie peacock: You try a book in the week of IMTS and it's three times the price.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Because they know.

Curt: They're smart.

jamie peacock: they can rip the ring and they'll still get away with it.

Curt: Yeah totally.

jamie peacock: uh don It's... ah But yeah, that's that is the plans that are afoot for now. Um...

Curt: Suede.

jamie peacock: Okay. Let's talk about 3d printing Kurt

Curt: Dude. I...

jamie peacock: Because I have 3D printing things I want to discuss.

Curt: Matt. I.

Curt: I don't know why I didn't listen to you where you told me to buy a 3D printer. because like My brain. works differently now that I can print large volume things. Very quickly.

jamie peacock: Yep.

Curt: Like...

jamie peacock: yep

Curt: I needed, I built some folding jigs for the boxes that I make.

jamie peacock: Dude, those looked really cool.

Curt: Like I've been one. Thanks, dude. um

jamie peacock: Yeah, like

Curt: I've been wanting to make these forever. And I was like, well, it's going to be like a 10 hour print on my other printer. It was. an hour and 40 minutes because i didn't optimize i just kind of built them how I think. and they're super over fucking built like i could make them way lighter um But yeah, hour and 40 minutes to print one of them. it was wrong like i didn't quite i messed up a tolerance i was like oh I made another one.

Curt: and it was And I did this all in an afternoon. Like I designed it, printed the first one, was like, ooh, got to change something, change this.

jamie peacock: Yep.

Curt: did it again used it all within like three hours Um.

jamie peacock: Yeah, it's...

Curt: I just like. And then once that worked, I built another one.

jamie peacock: It's done.

Curt: And then I built another jig for like just cutting some paper tape because I cut. paper tape for packing and I just wanted it like i basically want one i want an automated one um but i was like well

jamie peacock: so do i

Curt: I don't have one right now

jamie peacock: But they're fucking spendy

Curt: Yeah, and I was like, I don't really need to buy that right now. I don't quite like I'm only gonna ship out a couple hundred orders like I can It's not going to save me that much time yet. um but like I printed a jigs and I just go like chi chik chik chik chik chi chik sorry and cut all the tape and like and once again it's just like it's a big part it's like you know 10 inches long.

jamie peacock: Is that gum tape?

Curt: and Just gum tape, yeah yeah.

jamie peacock: So you're cutting it dry and then wetting it when you stick it on.

Curt: I don't know yet. Cause now like. At the end of my little jig, I'm like, I could very easily just have us. a sponge sitting there that i just pull it out and it wets it at the same time and like at at that point i'll just buy a system but

jamie peacock: yeah

jamie peacock: Who's... That's one very... One very frustrating thing is no one's made a DIY tape dispenser for that tape.

Curt: Oh.

jamie peacock: I've looked. and i can't find any project where someone's made a diy because i'm using that tape and you need the volume you're not interested in diy something you just want to buy a solution I tried to buy one at HGR.

Curt: That's...

jamie peacock: I tried to lowball them. for like $100.

Curt: Oh yeah?

jamie peacock: they didn't take it

Curt: Yeah, like same thing. i was I'm like, well, i'm like I could do this. And I'm like, well, at that point, it's like... it's like 300 bucks for like the crank one that you just pull in it auto wets it and auto cuts it and then like it's like a thousand bucks or something for the digital ones but i was like

jamie peacock: ah know I want the $1 ,000 one.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: like Badly butted out the fuck.

Curt: This. Cheers.

jamie peacock: Even from China, they're the same price.

Curt: Boop. They are spendy. Yeah. They, I mean,

jamie peacock: They are spending.

Curt: spendy but if you're doing a thousand like if you're doing 200 orders a day cutting tape yeah it's a no -brainer so

jamie peacock: Because some of them also warm the water.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: which makes the tape stick way better.

Curt: Mmm. Okay.

jamie peacock: Ooh.

Curt: Interesting.

jamie peacock: I've made a mistake.

Curt: Yeah. Are you looking them up now?

jamie peacock: Yes, from Ali Barber.

Curt: Yeah, I just...

jamie peacock: semi -automatic water tape activate they're not expensive h

Curt: Anyway, just boils down to like.

jamie peacock: Listen. It's a magic one. Yeah. Anyway.

Curt: A printer that just prints. quickly and Without any...

jamie peacock: reliably.

Curt: When he ate sorry without any effort for me like I just I take the ball from Fusion. I drop it in. It even knows todd like it auto -spins the model to be like, this is the best way to do it.

Curt: I don't worry about overhangs because I bought support material with it in the dual nozzle for that reason. So I printed this one with a heinous overhang. and used like uh principal support like not just tree support but like the actual like to material.

Curt: It came off and I was like, clunk. Pull the support out. It's a... perfect finish the part is perfect like dimensionally exactly what i want i'm like

jamie peacock: Yeah, it's freaking wild.

Curt: Oh, yeah, this is... This is what we were promised in 2012. like when we first got into printing.

jamie peacock: 100%.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: So yeah, um I see that the P2S is in stock now. Um,

Curt: Mmm.

jamie peacock: But not from a place that I can pay with how I to pay. Might have to wait a few more days. um But yeah, so. I'm sure you recognize these.

Curt: Oh, like a little insert holder. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I don't know if I want to ship these in these or want to make custom packaging.

Curt: Oh. Okay, it's your little... um but Vice job bitey things.

jamie peacock: These are 10 US cents each. So I'm going to buy 300 of them for $30.

Curt: Yes, sir. That's pretty hard to beat, yeah. Yeah. That's pretty hard to beat.

jamie peacock: And then the three different colors for. the different different insert styles.

Curt: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: um the only thing is then okay do i put an insert in and then put a screw next to it How do I shift the screws? i don't want to ship them a little banky like I could print something that...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Looks nice, but then I'm tying up. print time and for tenuous sense, I have a solution.

Curt: Is it two of them? are

jamie peacock: I could I mean for that price I could ship the screws separately

Curt: awesome

jamie peacock: um i was just gonna put the screw next to the insert the screw is not gonna get damaged by the insert and then so it's not gonna get damaged by the screw

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah, that'll work, yeah.

jamie peacock: Put them in the same square and then, yeah I don't know, I kind of was going to go down the 3D printed packaging route. And then I'm like.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Let me find out about these. Obviously, it's $30, then there's shipping, which...

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: It's probably gonna... push it up to like a hundred dollars for the for the 300 things um

Curt: Sure.

jamie peacock: which changes the maths a little bit it's like oh a whole 30 cents a thing like

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: It really doesn't freaking matter. Um, see i don't know um i want a 3d print packaging but also like A plan. a plan on moving a lot of these things so do i want to be have a printer running flat out

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: Or do I want to just buy boxes from China?

Curt: It's exactly the... thing like I was thinking about that. like I'm like, oh, the printer works so good. I could print some really cool packaging. I'm like, okay, Kurt, you got to do a thousand. Do you want to do a thousand? I'm like. no not really like i don't want to i don't put a thousand of those things like yeah sure it doesn't cost much but i'm like a thousand of like no i'll just buy a box like That's how I buy my packet. I buy it.

Curt: Box of... you know whatever i buy yeah a thousand at a time and then it's like it's it just shows up And it's ready to go.

jamie peacock: Exactly.

Curt: and I don't have to design it.

jamie peacock: No, that... Yeah. Like, that's exactly it. Like...

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: there's a time and a place for fancy packaging This is a load value low -dollar item. Let's not fuck around with custom packaging.

Curt: And I think your... Use like your your trays that you have with like the handy semen.

jamie peacock: Yeah, that makes sense.

Curt: that shit like That makes sense because it's a high dollar item.

jamie peacock: Yep.

Curt: It protects it and is useful to the customer at the end.

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: and If you get to the point where you're selling Whatever. $200 or... 200 units a month and it's annoying? uh to like have your have your own farm producing it like yeah sure then you can think of like die cut foam and then a smaller injection molded carrier or something like that but

jamie peacock: yeah buy another printer. Yep.

jamie peacock: Sure.

Curt: At a.

jamie peacock: For now.

Curt: Less than that those quantities? Yeah. like No brainer. Yeah. For sure.

jamie peacock: printing, yeah, on half -value items, printing makes sense. The other thing I'm trying to do is make sure that this whole thing goes in a bubble mailer. because then the shipping is super cheap.

Curt: Totally, yeah.

jamie peacock: Um, So like if you order... to 30 inserts or 40 inserts it still fits in a bubble mailer

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: And I've thrown in the...

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: the flag uh flag range and the entities that it goes

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I'm also busy trying to source 1 gram anti -seize packets.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: from China.

Curt: Oh, okay. Yeah, that'd be nice.

jamie peacock: The little plastic ones, yeah. So, busy.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: chatting to them about sourcing anti -seize vagina it's a weekend so they're not fucking responding Cheers.

Curt: Jerks. Yeah.

jamie peacock: frustrating. um But yeah, like I don't know. um ah Yeah. Trying to justify buying a new printer.

Curt: I mean... For the size of those things, if you want to go and print it, yeah, it's not it's not heinous. like If you had to print 1 ,000 of those a month on a printer, that's it's not horrible. like

jamie peacock: it wouldn't even be that bad, yeah.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: So, like, I've got the A1 Mini. Kind of want to buy a... but I want to buy a P2S.

Curt: Sure. a

jamie peacock: But now I'm tempted to just get it with AMS.

Curt: Yeah, I Probably wouldn't go without an AMS for sure.

jamie peacock: The issue I've got with AMS is, yeah, it's got desiccant. It doesn't. Heat. the filament to dry it. I've got a filament dryer.

Curt: AMS2 does.

jamie peacock: I missed two dice, what?

Curt: yeah all my all my uh

jamie peacock: No, it's got it's got the one on the side that's heated, isn't it?

Curt: No, both mine are heated

jamie peacock: It's not the hole.

Curt: Yeah. No, the AMS2 Pro is heated. That's the one that holds four. That's one I have. And then I have the high temp one as well.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: But they're they're both heated. Yeah, they can both run a heat cycle

jamie peacock: AMS2 Pro multicolor material can connect well. Well, thanks Kurtz.

Curt: Sorry. It's so cheap, too, so that's why I i was being like, yeah, just just get it.

jamie peacock: It's... Yeah, it's 20 ,000 Rand for the...

Curt: So. See you, bye. If you buy it with a printer, it's like $100 off.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah. So there.

jamie peacock: It is. Oh, dammit Kurt.

Curt: it Sorry dude.

jamie peacock: I don't think it's going to fit where I want to put it. That's the other problem. is i want to put it under my desk and i don't think it'll fit there but It's fine, I can go on my desk while I fucking can. At least it's enclosed.

Curt: Yep.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: Hmm. You're a bad influence and I approve.

Curt: Hmm. Sorry.

jamie peacock: Food. Damn it.

Curt: Actually, that... That leads perfectly.

jamie peacock: I'm going to sell you a bunch of pallets after this podcast so I can bug ah go go buy a printer.

Curt: out

Curt: Yeah, sure um the ah Speaking of desiccant and drying, once again, my favorite rocket scientist.

jamie peacock: You printed the desk of things.

Curt: No, no, yeah, of course, but like... Our favorite rocket scientist reached out to me. um or former rocket scientist i don't know what he wants to be called now Um, That. Uh,

jamie peacock: as an enthusiast.

Curt: pi Pie chart enthusiasts, of course. uh mr justin gray uh activated alumina as opposed to your standard desiccant which i don't even know what it is um activated alumina is a little more spendy

jamie peacock: ah okay

Curt: But. ah It has enough or as he described as he described it and as I've read it has like enough thirst like it pulls hard enough

jamie peacock: yeah

Curt: that. if you just use it in like your method like a bucket um It can start.

jamie peacock: Yes. it'll actually

Curt: well it'll actually start drying your filament as opposed to just keeping because like filament will like in your situation like you could have filament that's too wet but the desk can can never pull the water out of it because it doesn't have enough force You have to heat.

jamie peacock: yeah

Curt: Heat the whole thing up and then it it helps. uh whereas this i think is strong enough that i can start drying it just in that. in a room temperature instance so i was like m That's kind of cool.

jamie peacock: Because yeah I don't even store my filaments in buckets anymore at the workshop. it just goes under my desk and when i want to print i throw it in the thing for half an hour before i start printing

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Then it heats the chamber and it's ready to go.

Curt: Sure.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: But yeah, I think the... Hmm, you're a bad influence Kurt. Uh...

Curt: Sorry, dude.

jamie peacock: 3D printing store doesn't have stock yet.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: They said they were getting on the 10th. It's now the 11th. Where the fuck's the stock? Um...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: The vibe now batting is grayed out. It's very annoying. but yeah i might just go with ams then color changes happen auto automatically

Curt: It's just so nice. It's just so nice.

jamie peacock: I'm busy with...

Curt: I didn't like.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: I didn't realize the convenience of it. I was like, ooh, I kind of want... Two AMSs? Like, I have the high temp one that I just...

jamie peacock: yeah

Curt: use for the other nozzle, but I kind of want just two of the regular AMSs. for each nozzle because then it's just like Lormut! Filament, just never think about him again.

jamie peacock: 100%. Like, i dude, I ran out of filament the other night. I left the print on, like, for a while. a four -hour print uh needed to print trays for handy semen parts So I'm like, send the tray. I made a full, full four hole tray the tray is basically big enough that the parts can't touch each other They stand up and they can't touch each other.

Curt: Yep.

jamie peacock: ah for the sidelock adapters. and some illiterate candidates, so there was a mistake. And then I'm like, hang on, why am I printing fours when I can print nines? So I made it.

Curt: sir

jamie peacock: For none, left it to print around out of filament. Came back in the morning, print unfinished, swapped filaments quick. Hit continue. It carried on printing. gave its column there you go put another one on sprinters left its print for the day it printed like i just send stuff and it works like if you wash the bed it just works I had some contamination.

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: I was printing tool tags. And one of them failed. but That's because something had touched the bed at some point.

Curt: Yeah, yeah, exactly.

jamie peacock: That's what I wanted. at all. But I would like to have all my stuff preloaded and ready to just... Auto change. um Can you run 95A? TPU through the AMS.

jamie peacock: I don't think so.

Curt: ah I think you can run the 95A. AMS one, but that's also...

jamie peacock: yeah

Curt: why I bought the high temp. dryer because it has a little port on the back. where you can Feed. TPU. I also want to print like the super soft 85 uh tpu so and for that it's still better to make the esoteric systems of like Direct feeding it into the top as opposed to going through the Bowdoin's

jamie peacock: Whoa, yeah. I mean, our prints... ah i put in tpu 95a for one of my products so i just need to make sure Um... Supported with AMS2.

jamie peacock: There's TPU for AMS y 'all

Curt: They tech. yeah they have tv for ams and then they also have a really dumb kind of side feeder that apparently will let you use like the stock boat and setup but all the reviews i've seen on that are just like

jamie peacock: So I have to...

Curt: uh yeah i don't know if it works like i think i don't like it's helping it's just like an add -on that they're like does it help Like people did like AB testing and this is like.

jamie peacock: that's

jamie peacock: Yo.

Curt: Eh.

jamie peacock: I think what I'll do is when I print... Um... When I print TPU, I'm not printing multicolors or anything. It's literally just print a batch of parts. So I'll just load in the...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: The things swap a different nozzle in

Curt: Yep.

jamie peacock: print my parts and then pull the nozzle out and put the old nozzle back in and then run the AMS. I think that is the correct plan.

Curt: Yep.

jamie peacock: My wife is gonna swear at me something fucking silly when I...

Curt: Beep, beep, beep.

jamie peacock: Going barfucking. printer

Curt: Yeah, I'll sell you another one and Whatever.

jamie peacock: Oh, the other one's going to call.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: That's already dealt with, like...

Curt: Oh. Perfect.

jamie peacock: he wants he wants a printer i'm like don't go buy an a1 mini just take my a1 mini and then

Curt: I'm sold.

jamie peacock: take the dryer with it if the AMS has the drying functions.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Because my mate Dave's got two of the...

Curt: Other than. The next one now.

jamie peacock: uh the minis and he paid all his expenses last month or of his homosexual flower fishing bags

Curt: okay

jamie peacock: like printing and selling them. Thank you.

Curt: so

jamie peacock: He paid all his expenses.

Curt: Awesome.

jamie peacock: um

Curt: That's wicked. That's wicked.

jamie peacock: Like he's printing a really thin potty actually the default slicing profile puts the bottom two the bottom layers at 45 degrees to his parts, so he put them at 090.

Curt: Yep.

jamie peacock: and the part doesn't warp anymore.

Curt: Oh, smart. Okay, cool.

jamie peacock: When he takes it off, it was warping.

Curt: Huh.

jamie peacock: when he assembled and he changed the orientation so like he's got um projects for every single component because he's tweaked the settings on every single component

Curt: Sure, yeah yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Also ordered... um uh ptgcf to play with.

Curt: o fancy fancy

jamie peacock: Yes. I have a product that needs... a printed enclosure and I figured that's going to be the appropriate material.

Curt: Yep.

jamie peacock: Because as usual Jamie working on 17 different fucking things at once

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Ugh. Yeah. okay which thing are we going to tackle now that we've ranted and raved about many things

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: No doubt we haven't even hit any of our topics. oh

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: well we even know I can't even see the timer's too small here. Oh, we're going.

jamie peacock: Oh yeah. 47 minutes in.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: We fucking winning.

Curt: Uh... How about... um The stainless steel barnacle. No, we've done a lot of work holding. Let's leave that. ah How about your...

jamie peacock: no no let's do the stainless barnacles because they're not finished so

Curt: ah

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: It'll be a quick one. Yeah, it's a quick one. So.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: i changed the lk over to run Stain of steel.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Um, after running some of the steel. Uh, yeah, dude, fucking A. So... the i'm machining the bodies out of stainless steel now for the stainless version.

jamie peacock: Dude, I love my OK. I really do. Uh...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: the i want to hold a pretty tight tolerance on the overall dimensions of the barnacle for no reason other than just my own workflow Yeah, I was holding luck. sub 10 microns.

jamie peacock: Across all the bodies?

Curt: Down. That's good.

jamie peacock: I was like, ooh, it's 10 microns over. Comp tool diameter. Dead fucking nuts. for the rest of the ones I ran. Um,

Curt: Sick.

jamie peacock: yeah did freaking wild so that's using that ties into the interesting stuff with hydraulic holders um I put in the Ericsson, so from Mr. Gray, I got two Ericsson holders, hydraulic holders.

jamie peacock: And I've noticed some interesting things about them. regarding their rigidity.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: So I'm finishing with... but The 8mm hydraulic, it works fine. to eight more, whatever. for six millimeter that i do my alley stuff with Chatters like a motherfucker.

jamie peacock: when I'm roughing. Like it it sings when I'm roughing. Oh. Dead nuts on size when I'm done. But. not as rigid as some of my other tool holders.

jamie peacock: Which I thought was really really weird that

Curt: h

jamie peacock: It's not that rigid. um like if i'm roughing like fees and speeds had worked before with my dc holder and didn't make a noise this thing's making a fucking noise Um, But when you do your finished parts and whatnot, it... Fiends rot up.

jamie peacock: it's just i thought it was really weird that That these holders... are not super fucking rigid.

Curt: or the rigid enough and now you've just hit like that next like frequency Like. band where it's like you're just in the like What are those like?

jamie peacock: I don't know, it's just...

Curt: nodes of...

jamie peacock: it's kind of strange ah i thought i mentioned yeah maybe someone's got some feedback on it um but like i'm the tools choked up it's I... pretty much an ideal situation. the dc holder stuck out a lot further The DC holder I would notice is tool deflection.

jamie peacock: on finishing pauses, like I'd have to do two two loops.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: uh this i'm still doing two loops The f - Sausage. Cock on. But when I'm roughing it... Yeah, I have to do a floor finish now. I can't leave the roughing floor finish. because it looks like .

Curt: Did you try just like bumping up the spindle speed or down? just like 10 % just to see if you're.

jamie peacock: Yeah, it's a 12K. um

Curt: Just to see if you're in a resonance. Like.

jamie peacock: I haven't. um But yeah, it's kind of kind of weird. like And it's it's at different feeds. So like my default roughing. Feed is 2 .8 meters a minute.

jamie peacock: And then on some of the stuff, I've dropped that down to 1 .8. So it's doing it whenever I'm roughing, whenever I'm taking a decent size cut.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: It's... It's vibrating.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: oh resonating or whatever. It's kind of weird.

Curt: This is doing it And multiple chip loads is doing it.

jamie peacock: Yeah. it's doing it at different chip loads and yeah it's just kind of freaking strange Um,

Curt: Okay. Okay. Hmm.

jamie peacock: But yeah, I'm not gonna complain, it was a free hydraulic, so.

Curt: Oh, totally. Yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah. It fucking works. um But yeah, kind of weird. Funny, funniness. I've got to go on Wednesday. um This week is going to shit very quickly. uh carl leaves on wednesday for his week -long fishing trip

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: And Wednesday, I've got to go to Midrand to go and chat to the tumbling guys about stainless steel tumbling media. Because I need to not tumble these barnacles.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: Um, And then Thursday, I've got to go to Hotties for...

jamie peacock: installing a sensor and then there's an open house at the one tooling the salgas So I want to go there. And then, because I'm there, Danica's going to want to go for lunch. So it's gonna end up being like a whole fucking day that I lose.

jamie peacock: um Fortunately, Eurosteel has no stock of 25 diamonds a bar. So the EMCO will not be standing. Well, it will be standing because it has no material to run. Because I tried to order 180 meters of material and was told sorry we have no stock We'll be getting it on Friday next week.

Curt: m

jamie peacock: So... emco is chooching along we're running into fucking that machine is at its limit uh the one tool position on the turret doesn't lock anymore

Curt: oh that's Not good.

jamie peacock: Yeah. i'm not sure why i need to strip the turret either we've broken a tooth off of the The worm gear, or the worm... yeah the worm gear or it just happens to be the little lines that the tooth on the uh the worm wheel doesn't fucking align I don't know We can always make a new one. It's not the brass.

jamie peacock: gear. but the hard and steel one

Curt: sure yeah

jamie peacock: i really hope it's not missing a tooth if it's missing a tooth i'm switching into a servo turret

Curt: Yeah, fair. Yeah. pricelessless

jamie peacock: that's kind of what i've wanted to do for a while so it'll just make a whole new shaft

Curt: effort.

jamie peacock: with a servo coupled in the back put it in talk mode and reposition it and then go to the lock. and we use the encoder feedback to calculate our tool position

Curt: Sure. Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: so then i'll just buy one we'll put a one homing switch at home so it then knows it's at zero and then it'll hold with the holding torque of the servo. for holding it against the lock.

Curt: Right. Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: It'll also be a fuckload faster.

Curt: Yeah, yeah. I'd say you could go both ways, but you...

jamie peacock: Tell me that. Toot toot toot! Lock.

Curt: You can't.

jamie peacock: No, you can't.

Curt: yeah yeah

jamie peacock: Not on that turret.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: ah But yeah, Dr.

Curt: i be Good ones.

jamie peacock: That is going to be the next step. is to go... put ah like a 400 or 700 watt server on it. which is so oversized but i want the torque for locking so yeah i don't know hopefully i don't have to do that hopefully it'll just run but uh yeah i need to if our machine is running for the rest of the month on this job.

Curt: I approve.

Curt: Good, good, but...

jamie peacock: Not really, considering we it's the part that we it's the part that we don't really make money on.

Curt: Bummer you're held. Yeah.

Curt: Oh shit. Okay.

jamie peacock: But the other lathe is running all the other parts so it's not the end of days

Curt: Well, that's good.

Curt: Okay. Cool as a egg.

jamie peacock: Yo. Bye.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: We're running 250 parts a day. 250, 300 parts a day on the Emco. the other machines running like five to six hundred parts a day. on the one part number and it's got three part numbers to do.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: So. it's not it's not all bad we should be done on monday afternoon with that run of parts

Curt: ah Okay, and then you can...

jamie peacock: And then on to the next part number.

Curt: quote it more appropriately. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Well, no, the the price on that is the price. If we look at ah the family, we're going to chat to them about upping the price, but but as the family stands, the family of bots. We make good money on it.

Curt: All right.

jamie peacock: some of the other parts will be making luck.

Curt: Okay. Yeah fair. Fair.

jamie peacock: Yeah, we're making... two or three x what our hourly rate is so It's not.

Curt: Okay, fair. It balances in the long. Yeah. Okay.

jamie peacock: yeah it balances in the in the whole batch order so yeah we'll see what's We'll see what we can do there. But on anyway.

Curt: okay

jamie peacock: Um, What new tumbling magic have you got?

Curt: Dude, I... like I went out and just bought a bunch of media that people have told me like oh don't use that for titanium because it just it's not effective for titanium so i went just bought just all kinds of different shit just to play with it And ah threw it in some of the... And just threw like...

Curt: Some. pen bodies i had and be like oh let's let this run for i don't know Eight hours or 16 hours or just like just. things where i'm like i'm not using it at this exact moment so i'm able to experiment with it i have some finishes that i Love.

Curt: on. like so plastic media that i would never have really used against titanium And just like. i'm like i love the finish coming off this it's so pretty and it's like

jamie peacock: coming off effectively polished.

Curt: coming out like effectively polished and i'm like putting less and less handworked parts in there just to see where i can get and just like

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: just doing different things then and like wearing it to see like Once it does wear, like once it wears through like the tumbled finish or you start. polishing in spots like from your pocket or something like that it doesn't look dumb like does it Does it show clean machining marks? Does it show something stupid? Just kind of. Anyways.

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: having a lot of fun with that but yeah you can i don't listen to the internet people don't like whatever people tell you when something doesn't it just No, most of the time they're...

jamie peacock: No shit. um

jamie peacock: Have you...

Curt: I'm sharing it.

jamie peacock: Have you considered running it through your... normal media and then throwing it in that media.

Curt: Oh, 100%.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah, i've I've done that.

jamie peacock: Just that, yeah. multi -staging it

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: Yeah, I've run it through like heavy ceramic to take off a lot of cutting

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: and then alter the water content even in the same ceramic to make it softer so that it does a little fine polishing and then put it into like a polishing media with like like plastic that polishes it more, and then put it into...

jamie peacock: interesting

Curt: um like a ceramic or sorry like a porcelain media which yeah just kind of does a peening and like

jamie peacock: Now pause the video.

Curt: Yeah, you can do all kinds of crazy shit by just varying. Whatever.

jamie peacock: have like a 20 page sop for tumbling

Curt: It's... it

Curt: Dude, it is. It is the closest thing to witchcraft in our like whole world. like that we like you

jamie peacock: you clearly have never run a wire cutter.

Curt: Okay. I have not. So maybe that's worse. Yeah. ah

jamie peacock: no like tumbling is a whole freaking thing in its own like i spoke to a lot of the guys at the show about tumbling

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: That was one of the main goals I had. There was chats all the time between guys and find out. some information on what to use and how to get different finishes and things. super interesting like those guys are so knowledgeable And it is such a deep rabbit hole.

Curt: Mm hmm.

Curt: Oh, yeah. And I like. I get it. Like, yeah, there's just a lot to end this like. and think And they change, right? Like, media changes how it... performs as it's new and as it's old and like

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: Yeah, it's...

jamie peacock: I literally are bought media that wouldn't. deeper parts. I threw in some chunks of tool steel into the tumbler and let that run in there for a few hours and then it would deeper properly.

Curt: Yep.

jamie peacock: because then the tool steel it was media for aluminium But it had a... smooth surface. from being caused. So I threw in a chunk of...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: that sharp edge tool steel let that tumble and then the media became usable

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: oh

Curt: I do that. i do that a ton with my ceramic media which i find just cuts a little too hard right out of the gate So either I just like let it run for like 12 hours and just kind of dulls itself or it's the same thing what you said just put some sharp parts in there of like I usually try to stick with.

Curt: the same material because i don't want to get weird contamination issues

jamie peacock: yeah hundred percent

Curt: um but the same thing just let it tumble some rough titanium parts for like a day and Then it kind of makes your media happy takes Like I said, takes the glaze off the process from...

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: but Casting it. Yeah, I don't know.

jamie peacock: yeah i'm quite excited to go um

Curt: It's fun. It's magic.

jamie peacock: to go to the Tumbling Media place locally. The last... Oh, I've actually never been there. I sent Danica there last time.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: I ordered a bag of media. I'm like, just go fetch it for me. So I'm keen to go there and look at their tumblers, chat to them. because they do all the big tumblers.

Curt: Ah, yeah, cool.

jamie peacock: Yeah, so I want to go and and see them i'm just quickly checking the tumbling media store locally there's a um A watch place. They sell by the kilogram.

jamie peacock: for the media

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: It's meant for tumbling like small things. Um, But yeah, it is freaking spendy. like two kilos of media cost me the same as 25 kilos of media

Curt: Yeah, but your media was like really cheap.

jamie peacock: a It was relatively cheap. Yeah, I'm going to go see them and see what they've got to offer for stainless. and then we'll We'll see. Um...

Curt: Speak.

jamie peacock: I have a question Did you ever see the window mounted AC units in my front yard?

Curt: Yeah, dude

Curt: No.

jamie peacock: On top of one of the drums.

Curt: Like.

jamie peacock: It's been there for like six months.

Curt: Oh.

jamie peacock: or seven months.

Curt: Maybe, okay. Okay, maybe.

jamie peacock: I plugged it in.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: After sitting outside for like seven months. still runs.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Like without the cover, just sitting exposed.

Curt: sick.

jamie peacock: ah Yeah, it runs.

Curt: okay

jamie peacock: uh it's going into the office i'm gonna i think i'm just gonna build like a little school for it to sit on that'll just push up against the window Or like the cutouts.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: in the wall.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: And then if I ever want to change it, I can just patch the wall. But yeah, it works. and does the aircon things, surprisingly.

Curt: That's awesome. That's awesome. That's awesome.

jamie peacock: Because yeah, air cons are expensive.

Curt: hu

jamie peacock: Well, they're not expensive, but they're more money than I want to spend.

Curt: Yeah, well, if you have one just literally collecting rain, why not?

jamie peacock: Yeah. Exactly. Yeah, so that's now the fuck they're trying to carry it upstairs sideways.

Curt: right

jamie peacock: I'm like, put it the fuck down now. It cannot go sideways.

Curt: eleven

jamie peacock: because it's got a refrigerant pump like you cannot put it fucking sideways but yeah you don't know you don't know

Curt: Oh, yeah.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: So yeah, I carried it upstairs.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: It fucking sucked.

Curt: Ha ha.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Yeah. that's Awesome. ah Look.

jamie peacock: So what? Ciao.

Curt: Uh, Uh...

jamie peacock: You can choose or I can choose. I'm easy.

Curt: ah Well, since I was talking about Tumblr magic, talk to me about how the BT30 holder is magic.

jamie peacock: So a while ago, I bought a... Blade tool. sleeve like a 40 od tube 20 ID or something, 14 ID, whatever. Some off the shelf size.

jamie peacock: and had Cole bore out a bt -30 taper into it

Curt: Mm -hmm, mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: for the life. And he ran like three tools on it. This week is like, this thing's magical. I'm like, yes, I'm aware. This is why I made you make it. I think I need to make it that it's quick change.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: so like two turns. I'm basically going to take the gripper mechanism out of a mechanical anchor point and just integrate that into the back. So that it's... two turns of an allen key that's easily accessible And the thing comes out.

Curt: All right.

jamie peacock: So it's really quick change not

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: put a bolt up the back of the the tool holder.

Curt: Sure. Yeah.

jamie peacock: But yeah, he may be in love with it. just a little

Curt: Haha. That's cool.

jamie peacock: It's really like it works really really well Yeah, because... His late's been standing this month. We haven't really done too much jobbing work He's been running nautical parts more than anything else.

jamie peacock: But then he had some other dumb shit to do, so he was. Using all my BC -30 holders in his lathe.

Curt: Oh, cool.

jamie peacock: like i like take some do not if i can take the ones off my machine

Curt: that

jamie peacock: but you can have the ones that are on the Slowio.

Curt: Nice.

jamie peacock: Yeah, I need to order a whole fuck -a -woo of, uh... of college so he's just ordered a shitload of eights and sixes and like all the common size your 16 and 20s. just so that we're not fishing around for collets because i'm running long collets

Curt: Mm.

jamie peacock: And I'm now leaving more and more tools built up, so it's becoming more of an issue.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah, that makes sense.

jamie peacock: Like I added one more tool to the tool rack and now my tool rack. has too many tools.

Curt: For now, just build a bigger tool rack.

jamie peacock: For now. ah Yeah, I've got two more tool racks that I need to mount to the wall. I just couldn't find my concrete drill bits. to drill anchors into the wall.

Curt: ah Yeah, fair.

jamie peacock: so i'll just go buy one today and then i can mount the freaking piece of plywood to the wall and screw my tool racks to it

Curt: All right.

Curt: Mm, mm -hmm, mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: And be fancy. Um...

Curt: Fancy.

jamie peacock: Yeah, very fancy So let's talk about...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: your drilling of your pen bodies.

Curt: I'd say pick that top one.

jamie peacock: Finally.

Curt: The other ones are kind of boring.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: um Yeah, so... I tried it. I did exactly what we talked about last week is i first i was smart i put the i put a pen blank in this mill spindle Um,

Curt: holding held by yeah er call it and then on the table i was i was like oh i'll put i have a holder that holds uh like an old Tormach. quick change and then i could put a drill in a nice collet Did that.

Curt: um and i was like you know what i should sweep this before i like Send it because I'm like if it it's not holding the drill vertically I'm fucked um So I swapped it. It was... Out and out. every access possible.

Curt: Uh, like. fas I'm like, oh, I machined this. precision so i was like okay i mean to be fair the part i was making on it was like three millimeters tall so i don't really care if it was skew but In this case, I really care if it's skew. So I was like. Okay, so I spent like...

Curt: Maybe. 20 minutes thinking about how i'm going to dial it in and then i'm like Hold up. Took the drill. out of my fancy, beautiful collet setup. and just clamped it in the vice because the vice has a v in it i'm like this has got to be okay. And it was dead nuts in both like in.

Curt: Each axis. So I was like. Okay, well, this is less. This is less Instagram cool looking, but it's... Way better. Us. Anyways, so I did that, ah probed it, found wherever all the centers, set all the tools up, took the exact code that was running on the lathe.

Curt: ported it over to the mill, and ran it. and uh didn't change my coolant like coolant still blasting from the top not like

jamie peacock: okay

Curt: blasting up. properly or anything just like i wanted to see basically worst case scenario with this work And. Yeah. It worked. So much better. Running at... So the same same feed rates that was on the lathe.

Curt: with the maximum rapid on the Sile. I went from a drilling cycle of like... uh

jamie peacock: Five minutes or so.

Curt: Yeah. Five minutes and 50 seconds. to, I think. one minute and 40 seconds.

jamie peacock: That's wild.

Curt: Yeah, that's just from Rapid. That's from nothing else.

jamie peacock: Yep.

Curt: um

jamie peacock: just from your accelerations and your efforts.

Curt: Yeah. And that is with a, but that's. 50 SFM. at basically tooth out chipper tooth. I could probably push that up to four without chip or tooth and probably...

Curt: 80 SFM before I start making that drill angry. Um,

jamie peacock: Does that... drill have through spindle.

Curt: Nope, just a standard carbide drill.

jamie peacock: Just send us a call back to our guy.

Curt: Yeah. Nothing fancy. so um

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: And ah there's some fancier like titanium, like three flute drills that I'm going to try. Anyways, I don't have to push it that fast. I'm going to leave it at stock because i want I want finish more than I want. Peace. process through like at a as it is.

Curt: three times faster that like solves that bottleneck completely

jamie peacock: hundred percent

Curt: Um, So yeah, so I was like, shit. So I think the next step is. um I'm actually going to make little, because I was figuring out, I'm like, how am I going to get the coolant? I think I'm going to actually print. little half pipes.

jamie peacock: Oh fuck yes.

Curt: That will like sit at the bottom of the drill. And I'll just aim a couple of the coolant nozzles into little.

jamie peacock: oh

Curt: funnels and the funnels will just spit the coolant straight up into the drill.

jamie peacock: That's magical. Yeah.

Curt: um And that. I have because I have a.

jamie peacock: Ugh, fuck.

Curt: I have a couple bit of chip dragging. To be fair, the drill is pecking and it's coming completely out, but it's coming out for like.

jamie peacock: yeah

Curt: I don't know. like a 50th of a second before it's plunging back in Because it's just limited by how fast a machine can stop and get going again. So. The amount of time the coolant is actually able to hit the tip of the drill and like make sure that there's no chips.

jamie peacock: There's nothing there y 'all.

Curt: It's like... It's like a... ah Not even a blink. So I'm like. Either I could... Slow that down, which I... don't want to do i can make it come up a little higher to essentially gain more time or i could Try to blast.

jamie peacock: What about... What about just swapping the the nozzles to the fan nozzles?

Curt: A little better.

jamie peacock: and they're just having them point like that onto the side of your your drovers.

Curt: Oh, yeah, I could do that. Yeah, there's like there's a thousand ways to so to skin this cat. I'm just trying to make it as easy as possible.

jamie peacock: but but the ramps are really fucking cool.

Curt: Yeah, I'm like if I don't have to change anything like if I can just crank a couple nozzles to hit the little funnels and then when i go back to machining other parts crank them back like that's that's kind of how i'm thinking so i might I might, yeah, make little trumpets that'll kind of.

jamie peacock: hello know

Curt: come up to little points. and

jamie peacock: yeah

Curt: So. Yeah, we'll try it. But yeah, I'm so pleased with how well that worked. and this so i took I'll have the the video I actually just shot.

jamie peacock: Yeah, I saw the story.

Curt: um So I cut I did I drilled half the tube on the lathe and I drilled half the tube on the mill and then cut it in half so I could see the surface finish on the inside. And. if you ignore the spots where i paused it because i was trying to pause it with to see if the drill was just getting absolutely fucked.

Curt: uh and it was completely happy but i paused it like six times inside the tube still spinning So then titanium just gets real pissy real fast. Um, But the parts where I was just letting it be, um the finish is essentially identical.

Curt: So I was like.

jamie peacock: Enjoy.

Curt: Mmm. Hmm. So yeah.

jamie peacock: solutioned.

Curt: Quite pleased.

jamie peacock: So now you're going to buy yourself 32 side lock holders.

Curt: Solutioned.

Curt: I have 32 ER call. It's BT30.

jamie peacock: No, come now, side lock.

Curt: Peace. Side lock? Why side lock?

jamie peacock: ah

Curt: That's for poor people.

jamie peacock: to be a total savage. So you

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: Did you order some two lolas already?

Curt: I don't know if I'm going to go with 32 off the hop. I think I'm going to go with...

jamie peacock: yeah would

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: I was like 16.

Curt: Uh... I think I might just do 16.

jamie peacock: That way you're not... Yeah, when however many empty pockets you have on your tool changer. Right now, that's how many you start with.

Curt: What to but

jamie peacock: okay

Curt: Yeah, and two is kind of annoying.

jamie peacock: Well, there we go. Four holders. No, that's not enough.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: But like, you don't want to be stripping everything out of your turret every time you want to drill pods.

Curt: I mean, I don't mind because I'm going to do a high enough volume that... eight

jamie peacock: Yeah. Well, I took tool two out of my turret yesterday, and that was weird.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: That is one of the resident tools is my six millimeter end mill.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: and i swapped it for my eight millimeter end mill and it kind of hurt my soul Because that tool just doesn't come out of the machine. It goes in and stays in. My face mill, my center drill, and my 6mm end mill.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: and my probe Do not come out of the machine. Bye -bye.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I needed the spot.

Curt: I know, and that's what I was thinking. is like like And I'm doing exactly what you think. like but What I'm thinking about this for production code, um like I've named all those tools. like blank blank one blank two blank three blank four all the way to blank 16 and eventually all the way to blank 32 and

jamie peacock: love Yeah.

Curt: So when the code finishes, it'll just cycle through. Each tool, I'll strip it out of the carousel as it's like. strip one put the next one in strip one put the next one strip one put it so it'll take me I got to kind of figure out how to dig.

Curt: I would like to go around my interlock, but Without.

jamie peacock: Why are you always why are you going all the way why are you going all away to 32? Why not just go to 16?

Curt: Cause then I can off.

Curt: Uh, Hi.

jamie peacock: Because then you're going to swap.

Curt: Oh, sure yeah, yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Indeed. I know what you mean

jamie peacock: Swap 2 -1 for 2 -1. one oh

Curt: Yeah, yeah. Sorry.

jamie peacock: black one to black one

Curt: i'm Yeah.

jamie peacock: um then you've got half as many things to do with Yaya.

Curt: I misspoke, but yeah. Yeah, yeah, misspoke, yeah.

jamie peacock: Um... And, you know, you're going to set them up offline with like a gauge or something.

Curt: A hundred percent. And they'd only have to be accurate within like. 20 ,000 so just a printed gauge is more than accurate enough

jamie peacock: Yeah.

jamie peacock: percent oh

Curt: to get the drilling.

jamie peacock: Yeah. What tool holders are you planning on buying?

Curt: Just probably some fairly cheap yeah ah ERs off alley. Because...

jamie peacock: Okay, so I would suggest you use like a hot gauge or something. that is set or a fucking piece of aluminum extrusion with a bar that you are relating to taper to the end of the thing not stick out from the end

Curt: shirt.

jamie peacock: Because if you stick it from the...

Curt: Sure, sure.

jamie peacock: It's a variation between orders or something. you could get into a bit of trouble there.

Curt: I will likely.

jamie peacock: Because I assume you're not going to go and touch off. or you're going to touch them all off in the beginning of the program.

Curt: the very like The very first time I do this. I will touch them all just to see if there's, like you said, if there's variants in the taper.

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: to how they they and if i know that there's massive variance then i'll just I'll figure it out, whatever I'll make out. Like you said, I'll use a height gauge or like I'll figure something else out to work.

jamie peacock: yeah something.

Curt: But even in this case, like even if it was out by...

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: Wow.

jamie peacock: Yes! yeahs

Curt: Say four millimeters, say something ridiculous. The first.

jamie peacock: It's fine, you're feeding in from five mils above, yeah.

Curt: I say, yeah, I'm feeding in from exactly. I'm feeding in from five mils above. So I'm burning. An extra 10 seconds of time, but. then i don't care like i can so i can eyeball the stick out on everything and be fine

jamie peacock: I'm kind of wondering if Fusion has a...

Curt: So.

jamie peacock: drilling cycle that has a pause before re -entering.

Curt: I was looking, I'm looking through the the Siemens to see if there's a. uh like a cycle that I want. Cause right now it's a hand -drawn. like is this hand -drawn g -code

jamie peacock: yeah

Curt: or like it rapids out rapids into a close distance packs and then but like i wanted to maybe slow down at the entrance or like i don't know it might slow down as it's coming out or

jamie peacock: There is, Fusion's got a couple funny drilling cycles like that. let's maybe you just have a look what options they've they've got there

Curt: Yeah, I might have to mess with them.

Curt: Yeah, but it works so good. It works so good.

jamie peacock: Yeah. Because I know... um Depending on what cycle you're using, it will use a cycle for the Siemens, but if it's some funny cycle, it'll generate the lines of G code. instead of using a socket.

Curt: Right.

jamie peacock: Lock.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: It might be worthwhile having it generate the lines of code for you that you can easily tweak stuff and add delays and things.

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah, like and...

jamie peacock: Because it might be worthwhile when you retract delay for... X number of... percentage of a second and then come back and so you know the chips are cleared and that won't be super hard to edit

Curt: And.

Curt: And same thing. And that's why I did it in G code the first way is because I could alter like, okay, for the first, whatever. 10 mils of depth you can do this and the next five mils do this and the next 10 mils do this because it's like it's changing as it's getting deeper So I could keep the feed.

jamie peacock: yes

Curt: But like you said, I could come up for a little bit longer because I'm building more heat or the chips are harder to get out or. All kinds of dumb stuff.

jamie peacock: Like all sorts of shenanigans that you can pull there relatively easily.

Curt: Yeah, so, but it was, a yeah. i was I was so pleased to see how well it worked.

jamie peacock: Good job. I'm glad it worked well. Okay, ciao. It was very exciting to see it running.

Curt: yeah i was i was blown away by the times and just like i could hear that it would be fast because it's like it was just like six six six six six six six i'm like oh you're gonna smoke the time

jamie peacock: I do the... i need to so we've got to run these uh drilling these things i'm gonna repost the Uh... the morse code program and i'm going to change it to rapid moves between Because currently it's moving at 24 meters a minute. It can go at 48 meters a minute.

Curt: Mmm.

jamie peacock: Save myself the whole four seconds. It'll be great. Um, but yeah why not run at full speed if we can like the pod's not heavy i don't have to worry about it Um...

Curt: One. 90 % of my code I don't run at full speed of this milk sound like it doesn't It doesn't impact the cycle time enough, but this one does.

jamie peacock: I run. Yeah. are

Curt: so let's

jamie peacock: i run 50 rapid as my general like go -to rapid duck speed

Curt: Same.

jamie peacock: When I'm spindle gripping stuff, then I'm like. yeah it saves like all of 30 seconds on the cycle but it frustrates me to watch it go slowly so i'll turn the speed up Fuck.

Curt: Fair. Yeah, fair. fair

jamie peacock: more just because it annoys me than anything else but my fourth axis is back on the machine

Curt: Yep.

jamie peacock: for the first time since I moved.

Curt: Oh cute, I saw it hanging in the space I think.

jamie peacock: And now the break doesn't work. so i'm waiting for a new relay

Curt: oh

jamie peacock: Um... I... Yeah, I don't know what the fuck's going on. I need to have a look at the code take my laptop and have a look at the code as well. and just try to figure out why the brake is not braking. It was working the other day and now it just doesn't want to work. It's just always on.

jamie peacock: So I need to just see what's what's going on there. uh i am tempted to order i did design a pcb to handle the controller of the fourth axis And I'm tempted to just order father them and when they come, they come.

jamie peacock: um And just build on it. a ah nasa looking controller controlr

Curt: it

jamie peacock: Not that it's really needed. just more for my own. A piece of art. Um...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Sorry. And then... I'm busy working on the opto -isolator PCBs as well. For the... spindle gripping stuff.

Curt: Right.

jamie peacock: Uh...

Curt: rhetro Right.

jamie peacock: kind of want to revise that design so that i can have jlc pcb just fabricate the board entirely

Curt: That's smart, probably. Yeah.

jamie peacock: So I may just rework it and just... suck it up and pay for them. to fabricate the boards. um the relay choice i chose like yeah i've got i don't know how i want to handle the The holes. thing like i can Ideally I want less wires going to the front UR panel.

jamie peacock: Um... and if i'm smart about it i could design latching logic that it's just a push button it latches and then when the reset gets sent through it resets the state of those And I'm not just. spend a bit of time doing that or i don't know convince someone to do it for me.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: and just turf what I've got and start again, like with a a fresh design.

Curt: Mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: I just don't want any microcontrollers anywhere near it. It all needs to be Um,

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: like straightforward components.

Curt: Just creature. Yeah.

jamie peacock: discrete components because yeah I just don't want to. I'm pretty sure I can get a latching circuit to work with a single push button, but I'm not sure. i need to look into it a little bit

Curt: Yeah, it should be able to, yeah.

jamie peacock: Because the latching buttons are like this freaking long so the box on the front ends up super thick

Curt: Yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: So... yeah And also ideally, I'd like to have. like five wires going back or less. So it's a i don't have to use ah the db9 i can just use some other smaller plug But I don't want to be running.

Curt: Yeah, yeah

jamie peacock: some But funny. business. So, I don't know. I'll fuck around with it and figure it out. It can't be that hard. I might just find one of the AR designer things and use that.

Curt: Can't be that hard

Curt: Yep. Sweet.

jamie peacock: don't anyway. There's two more left. One of them is this.

Curt: What the F is that?

jamie peacock: It is a five to one belt reduction. meant for rack and pinion on a router but going to get used for rotary table indexing table on a press.

Curt: How cute. Cute. ah

jamie peacock: Yeah, that's on the list of shit to do today is to draw that up or at least draw it up enough that I can go and get final dimensions tomorrow. We're quickly knocking this project out like this week. Uh...

Curt: Mm.

jamie peacock: to index a part of the press. So the operator can just load the tray and the tray just indexes. It's the ports. because currently they're having to put their hands in the press which is less than ideal

Curt: Oh.

Curt: Yeah, it's dicey. yeah

jamie peacock: Yeah. So I've got to make a new shaft for that on Monday. have Carl just turn up a new shaft because the pinion was integrated on the shaft. And I need just a flange that I can bolt. a Disc 2.

jamie peacock: So we're going to y 'all make a new shot for that and then I'm waiting on electronics. The electronics place has delayed my order for some reason. I'm gonna need to phone them and chart with them.

Curt: Hm.

jamie peacock: Bye John. Phantoms And then... This week I went to ship anchor points. sir When did I run ammo? They ran Anno last weekend. And I was off to the...

Curt: Mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: Yeah, anyway, I ran out. And I was like, ooh. I have four. 4 .2 version bodies Sweet. Let me random strano, random strano. Assemble them.

jamie peacock: And was like. Hang on. There's airports on the wrong side.

Curt: Mm -hmm

jamie peacock: I'd put it on the OP2 fixture the wrong way. And I knew this. and I put it separated in the box. of parts It was off to the side. I found this out when I was getting ready to pack the order.

Curt: Oh shit.

jamie peacock: Sort of like shit.

Curt: Huh.

jamie peacock: emailed my aluminum supply i'm like hey i need these blocks of aluminum Um... He sent the order. I paid it. I phoned him. I'm like, hey, when can I get this? Can I send my wife to fetch this material? I needed ASAP.

jamie peacock: I paid for it on... Tuesday afternoon. She fetched it lunchtime on Wednesday.

Curt: Oh nice. What?

jamie peacock: While she was driving to Fetch, it I changed the machine over, set up all the tools, touched off all the tools. When the material arrived I was ready to run. I ran five bodies that afternoon. i ran till 8 30 that night to finish five bodies took two of them home ran anno the following morning

Curt: damn

jamie peacock: and assembled them the next day and shipped them out.

Curt: Damn, that's impressive.

jamie peacock: Yeah, like Fucking quick, Doug. But all the work is done. All the code is there. All the processes are worked out. I did tweak the fixture.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: so that the body can own after up one it can only go into the up two fixture one way

Curt: Okay, so you don't have this in the future. Yeah.

jamie peacock: So this doesn't ever happen again. I'm fucking going to do this. Um, and then that fixture didn't have an idiot pin because i had overboard the diameters and i rotated the fixture 90 degrees Um... when i made it but now i have the little delrin pins with earrings i just pushed one in now there's a pokeo It can only go one way.

jamie peacock: um But yeah, speed ran through those. and then anode them and the purple fucking match perfectly

Curt: It's awesome.

jamie peacock: even though it was done in two batches.

Curt: Oh perfect.

jamie peacock: Yeah. And then I made an orange one for another guy.

Curt: That's good.

jamie peacock: There's a black one that still needs to ship. I'm sure to palette for it. But that'll go this week. That was a 4 .1.

Curt: sick Sweet.

jamie peacock: Um, Yeah, and then I think that one that's got the airport on the wrong side.

Curt: That's awesome.

jamie peacock: may just get another hold of them and become a E5.

Curt: Mm hmm.

Curt: Oh, to try the, yeah, I know where you're going with this.

jamie peacock: Uh, I want to kind of change to cross seals though. Not earrings?

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: for a better of seal

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: But yeah, I don't know. I'll mess around with it a bit. Trying to source those cross seals is proving a little challenging. I also haven't given it that much effort.

Curt: Yeah, fair. yeah

jamie peacock: But yeah, we're now working towards... minimum stock. holding for anchor point components. So I've decided on a number. And if there's less than that many components, it triggers a remanufacture.

jamie peacock: and we've got two or three weeks to remanufacture components. or to manufacture more stock and shouldn't be an issue and as i go that quantity can go up

Curt: Yeah, so you don't have to you don't do this hair on fire stuff. Yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: Exactly, yes.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: It's tying up a lot more capital, but it's fine. I'm okay with it.

Curt: Sure.

jamie peacock: Like I'm still sitting with I think I'm still sitting with like 13 uh 4 .1 bodies

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Because I just... changed the design and those are now somewhat outdated will be fine for and for harbors and moorings but Yeah, there's options about when they're like a little bit cheaper

Curt: Sure.

jamie peacock: on the website but we go for they've they've been set aside for like your ones and for john's ones and

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: For the harbor that I'm going to put in another machine at some point in the future

Curt: Sweet.

jamie peacock: Yes, because I need mobile.

Curt: Sweet.

jamie peacock: more mill more better.

Curt: Exactly. Okay.

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: Cool, dude Well, should we do the googly box?

jamie peacock: Yeah. We actually made it through our topics. um What is in your Google box Kurt?

Curt: Uh... Aluminum quote, because I wanted to quote your palettes. just

jamie peacock: That's fucking hilarious.

Curt: And that was. That was shocking. It's the worst price that I can get, but it's still.

jamie peacock: yeah

Curt: It's ridiculous.

jamie peacock: Even if it's half that price, it's still a little expensive.

Curt: Unify. I was just saying. I'd say even if I could half it, it's still ridiculous. uh Activated Illumina because I was learning about that. Firmvice, obvious reasons. BT32 holders, obvious reasons.

Curt: And log verse presets on shooting this footage. ive I was swearing at... log footage because like i don't want to color grade at all and then i realized ah that I actually like the look.

jamie peacock: those presets.

Curt: i like the look of log footage better so yeah i use pieces for a little bit of this next video And then I switched back at the end to log. So I like. I like the. flexibility log gives me and i've gotten better at color grading so Yeah.

jamie peacock: nice

Curt: I don't know That's fun.

jamie peacock: yeah i need to pull the footage off my camera that i shot of making these inserts and just see what i've actually shot and then i can decide what still needs to be shot to finish out that video

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, I was looking at thermal printers.

Curt: How about you?

jamie peacock: Looking at the firm vice. Looking at the firm vice again. Look at the firm vice again!

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: um

Curt: All right.

jamie peacock: Yeah, looking up NTCs and small packets of NTCs. Uh... circumference calculator so we could figure out how many parts we could fit on a disc and a press I bought shelving and Danica hates it.

jamie peacock: uh what industrial shelving they are 60 % the price of everyone else? except they are orange and blue.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: and danica's like she doesn't want orange and blue in her office and i'm like i literally don't give a fuck

Curt: Ooh.

jamie peacock: It's...

Curt: oh

jamie peacock: 50 % of the price or 60 % of the price. Like it will be orange and blue. You can vinyl wrap the front of it if you want. but that is what i'm putting as the assembly disc Um, by looking at doors and door frames because we need a door and a door frame for the office uh uh ptgcf because dave's been running it and says it's amazing so i bought a roll of it Knock.

Curt: sir

jamie peacock: I'm now thinking AMS with my CF. my Cheap. and then two colors And then if I want to print something as a prototype. normal pg if i want a final one switch to p uh to the CF.

Curt: Mm -hmm, mm -hmm, mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: You've done a bad thing, Kurt, and I like it.

Curt: Sorry dude. It does help. That is nice. Don't think about it.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: I've thought about it. It's happening now. um I just want to see quickly. Anyway, yeah I'll come back to this. um Let me finish the podcast first. Where can people find you and your things?

Curt: Confounded machine. And yeah. I will actually on the updates page, I think I'll link to all the videos. I'm trying to do a video every week. just showing the status of how i'm where I'm at right now.

Curt: I think we've. sent out well technically we haven't sent him out They're sitting right here. So I think I've sent out like. I don't know 26 out of my... 260 orders that i have to send out so uh yeah i have to do I have to do like.

jamie peacock: Hey, 10 %! Or 13 %?

Curt: ah I have to do about 100 a month ah to hit my timelines I want.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: So we'll see how close I get together.

jamie peacock: So what what you're saying is the podcast going forward are going to be really short.

Curt: Exactly. Yeah. no do down Jamie, I'm busy. Sorry. Bye. Yeah.

jamie peacock: yes

Curt: so ah Where can people find your wares and things?

jamie peacock: um Yeah, jspeceng .com. It's got links to everything and nautical workholding. uh the podcast website and my instagram There's a new website coming at some point. Don't know when. Beat my wife and see when she...

jamie peacock: decide she's actually going to do it uh but yeah she's i was looking at it now she is working on it Um, But yeah, as we can find all the things. Um... Yeah, what are you up to today Kurt? Well, tomorrow.

Curt: Tomorrow, ah it's... Thanksgiving.

jamie peacock: Oh yeah, it's Canadian.

Curt: We're doing. for

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah, we're doing Friendsgiving this year because my wife was on a trip this last week, which just meant I had zero time in the shop here. um which kind of is. a bummer but is what it is uh so yeah we're gonna do friendsgiving because we don't want to do anything fancy so i'll probably do that and then uh honestly i will probably squeeze some time in working if i'm not doing family stuff because Um,

Curt: I'm behind. And my wife's like, yeah, go nuts. She's like, work as much as you want. She's like, because I know you had a week of just. Nothing. So just. ushering ushering the dwarves around and ah fun good tons of fun but like

jamie peacock: yeah Yeah, 100%.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Just... That means the work stuff falls behind.

Curt: Oh, dude, I had like, yeah, I just like. Yeah, no time. Just taxi driver and line chef. And ah yeah, that's all that's all I did. It was just staff all week. so Anyway.

Curt: What are you up to this week?

jamie peacock: Oh, fuck. well yeah I think I'm going to head to the workshop. in the next hour or so. and go get the lathes running and get the mill cleaned out from over from stainless and Not much. Shut the... can't go in the aluminium bin.

jamie peacock: And then I've got a whole bunch of aluminium to run. I've got all all the parts for Andy Siemens have come in. so i want to quickly blast through all those components that they machined while i have a bit of time they are then machined on the shelf when i need them i can just anodize them

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Um, also soft i've got handy semen parts soft jaws and then i've got some parts for Flip stations that I need to quickly blast out And then... the material for the big job has arrived, I just haven't got final drawings yet.

jamie peacock: so I can do fuck all with it.

Curt: Mm -mm.

jamie peacock: uh and he's also quite the tough little parts I got a quote on material. The material's not that expensive. uh for the 200ish components. It's like $300 worth of material.

Curt: m

jamie peacock: so not that expensive but My time is going to be fucking wild on these things. So... is what it is i need to finish that quote and get that off to them so i can get money in and i can start designing i start manufacturing fixtures because those are all going on anchor point on harbour fixtures.

jamie peacock: to actually make it reasonable so we're gonna Machine the bottom, chamfer everything. Now, shame for the perimeters, just fucking dropping in. and Rough cut of chamfer. do all the holes those all critical is their relationship to each other thread all the holes. then it'll drop onto the fixture bolted from the bottom and then drop onto the machine and then the perimeter is not actually critical.

jamie peacock: So...

Curt: Right, right.

jamie peacock: I can reference off the holes, machine the perimeters. Machine the back off. I think the material is 16 thick instead of... 12. because that's what they had in the stock. So I'll build my process around.

jamie peacock: Leaving the one little stem a bit higher or whatever. Yeah, there's just a lot of a lot of stupid and then there's One of the components, I think there's 97 of them in the assembly. So I'm gonna... I've ordered...

jamie peacock: pauses I'm going to machine five at a time. thread the holes then they'll drop into pockets on the fixture bolted from below And then I just deck the top off. and those are just threaded things that get glued in they're simple little parts but Yeah, how else are you going to make them? Fuck.

jamie peacock: i need to kind of have these things not not entirely stupid to manufacture.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: So, gonna go do that and then... may violate my machine back to running steel to make the other variants of these. this afternoon. either that actually no i'm going to leave my machine to run uh keel clamps because i need m8 keel clamps

Curt: Sick.

jamie peacock: for making these. And I have none in the stock because some smart dick gave them all away at IMTS.

Curt: Check.

Curt: Heh heh heh. Heh. Sounds like a busy day.

jamie peacock: and threw some into the boxes of anchor points. But yeah, fucking dick, can't take him anywhere.

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: Yeah. Anyway, thank you everybody for listening. This is a bit of a long episode. Jeez, nearly hitting it. Let's see if we can stop right on an hour and a half. Thank you everyone for listening. If you enjoyed the podcast, please consider subscribing, liking, sharing, all those fun things. um Don't forget to join the Patreon if you want to... Down a chance to win a Freddy?

jamie peacock: Might as well push that. And, yeah, thank you, everybody, and we will see you guys next week. and the patrons will see you in the after show

Curt: Do I just... Leave it dead air now for a minute.

jamie peacock: No, we're not gonna make it last.

Curt: Take care all.

jamie peacock: It's a different minute and a half. Do a, do a taps in patience.

Curt: Huh? Exactly.

jamie peacock: Yeah. it Ugh. Come on Kurt, say goodbye so I can stop the podcast.

Curt: I did. I already did. take Take care.

jamie peacock: Huh.

Curt: I'll see you next time.
