jamie peacock: Welcome to The Lone Machinist, where it's just you, the work, and the machines. What's got going on today, Kurt?

Curt: Ah, we didn't even make a list, but I got a...

jamie peacock: Yeah, we didn't even make a list.

Curt: I got a shit ton of stuff coming out. Gajillion pen sales, new printers. Upgrades to the lathe. yeah this would be a good one folks uh lots of cool stuff How about you, Jamie?

Curt: What are you going to talk about?

jamie peacock: Uh, yeah. Got some stuff in the works. um Yeah, because I have an abundance of spare time. I have a lathe project in the works. I've got new products.

jamie peacock: in the works of our customer stuff in the works It's going to be great. And we also have a special guest today.

Curt: Oh. 2D Kurt.

jamie peacock: Tutti Kurt is with us.

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: This one made it home to South Africa. His knees are a bit sore.

Curt: and Oh!

jamie peacock: But he made it home. Ha ha!

Curt: ah That's awesome.

jamie peacock: Um, and according to the sticker The Freddy will dip your rick off.

Curt: Oh.

jamie peacock: You did answer with a stick eye.

Curt: At least it's not recurrent.

jamie peacock: I think you did.

Curt: yeah Oh yeah, oh yeah. yeah

jamie peacock: Yeah, okay. um But, you know, 2D Kurt made it home, and other 2D Kurt took a drive with AJ.

Curt: Oh, it's okay. i i

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Did I send him a message?

jamie peacock: He did post it.

Curt: i called I think I called him out. I called him out or something.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: I can't remember. I'm so behind on everything, but yeah.

jamie peacock: but Dude, my, yeah. I'm so behind, I've been so like dead on Insta and whatnot, but yeah, it is what it is. i will get back into the swing of things now that uh We're back in the shop.

jamie peacock: But yeah, the...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, the pile of work is mounting.

Curt: how did the ah How did the trip go?

jamie peacock: I'm happy to be in my own house again and have a shower that isn't a fucking hot piece of garbage. The shower at fucking hillbilly hearts or whatever the hell my brother booked.

Curt: Oh really?

Curt: but

jamie peacock: was horrid. Locked. The worst shower I've showered in. And I've showered in showers where I didn't take my shoes off.

Curt: Ooh. Okay.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: No.

jamie peacock: And not that it was clean, it just... There was no water pressure to speak of. And if anybody in the entire property decided to open a tap.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: it became a fuck show so yeah not ideal

Curt: but

jamie peacock: Oh yes, sorry to everyone, my swearing is going to be a little bit out of hand. I've been hanging out with my brother. um We're just going to blame him straight away.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Um. But yeah, I'll try. I'll try to reign it in. I wasn't allowed to swear in his wedding speech, so. And I have to make up for it.

Curt: Mm.

jamie peacock: And I managed to not swear in his wedding speech.

Curt: Yeah, I'd say you gotta Backlog.

jamie peacock: I was quite impressed.

Curt: Well, good job.

jamie peacock: Yeah, no. ah I know.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I managed to offend a lot of people at his wedding. Um.

Curt: Oh, did you make it?

jamie peacock: It was...

Curt: Did you make it through the whole speech?

jamie peacock: Dude. You haven't made it through the whole speech without swearing.

Curt: No, that it wasn't that offensive, yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah. Oh, no, no, it was the night before that I offended everyone. um

Curt: Oh, fair. Okay.

jamie peacock: but it's fine those guy guys love me Um, So we went... So we drove down Thursday. Friday, we had a felski, so shooting in the field. Went and shot a bunch of gongs and stuff across the valley, like 300, 400 -meter shots.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: It was a lot of fun playing with firearms. My brother's AR is really weird. It's just like a scope floating there because the whole thing is fucking camo. um

Curt: oh

jamie peacock: But now I want to AR -15 because that thing's a lot of fun. um Yeah, I went and shot for his bachelor. morning And then Winston helped. set up the wedding.

jamie peacock: Regarding the wedding, let's put it this way. If it was a brewery, none of us would be drunk. Because they couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery.

Curt: Okay.

Curt: Just a cluster?

jamie peacock: It was a cock and pony show.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Class the fuck of notes. But yeah, anyway. All came together in the end and it was a lovely wedding. Um, And then we partied hard. Really odd. um And then drove down a mountain road while drunk. Fucking winning.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: o

jamie peacock: yana Yeah, I know. I didn't drink too much. I was being i was being responsible. I didn't have any shooters. Amen. I was dishing them out, left, right, and center. Anyone who wants to know, yeah, open bar, I put paid, let's go. But yeah, it was a lovely, lovely weekend.

jamie peacock: and then yeah this month danik and i've just finished 4 000 kilometers in a call for this month

Curt: Whoa.

jamie peacock: between the U .S. trip and that this was 2 ,200 kilometers in the car. Well, actually more because of cyclists.

Curt: wolf

jamie peacock: um We drove up a mountain pass, the shitty part where it's all rutted roads and not actual mountain pass, only to be told, no, the road's closed because some... idiots are riding bicycles. and had to drive 25 kilometers back along.

jamie peacock: That shitty road.

Curt: Aww.

jamie peacock: and then drive a hundred kilometers around. It took us two and a half hours to do what would have taken us 25 minutes.

Curt: Oh shit, that sucks.

jamie peacock: From where we had to turn around. Yeah, that was Yes, the morning But anyway, we got into the little haunted town. um stayed there last night danica carl and reyna all claimed to got affected by ghosts i'm like bitches it's called gravity that was pulling your blanket off your bed

Curt: Ooh.

jamie peacock: uh but yeah my cousin got freaked freaked out had to sleep with the light on

Curt: Oh boy.

jamie peacock: The town is known for being haunted, though, New Batista.

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: um

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: Ba -dum. or whatever, I was sleeping. um I also learned that I'm really good at Rummy Cup. So I was destroying them. um But yeah, and then then spent eight and a half hours in the car today, zooting along, getting very annoyed with illiterates.

jamie peacock: Um, Bye John. is what it is. I only nearly slammed into like four people.

Curt: That's it.

jamie peacock: Had literally had a guy pull in so there was a rest stop on the side of the road like just a place to have a picnic

Curt: That's awesome.

jamie peacock: And his... bugger all coming so i pull out to overtake and this pulls out of the rest stop Into the lane.

Curt: Good.

jamie peacock: I'm like dude You could see I was over... What the... What the shit? So I had to slam on anchors and pull back behind the truck.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah. yeah

jamie peacock: I'm like, euthanasia for you. Um...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: but yeah kind of over driving now

Curt: Yeah. fair and Fair. Totally fair.

jamie peacock: Yo.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Also did a bunch of off -roading while we were down by my brother.

Curt: so like Yeah, I know you said...

jamie peacock: It was fun. Yeah.

Curt: You sent me a few pictures. It looks like looks like nice country.

jamie peacock: Dude.

Curt: so

jamie peacock: Landy, you go in mud mode. If you're in second gear, the thing just tunes up, you're not going. When I do a controlled descent.

Curt: yeah yeah

jamie peacock: and it's down the fucking hill so you don't slide in the mud

Curt: Oh.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: I was like, oh, this is easy mode. And then, yeah, went through some sandy ruts that were a little bit touch and go because the one road is actually closed. We just were like, screw it, we're going to 4x4. Um, Also, like like I can't say that joke. um Remind me about the slick tires joke. Our tires were a little bit on the bald side.

jamie peacock: So 4x4ing not recommended.

Curt: Okay. Okay.

jamie peacock: um like we we figured we'd make it then back on those ties and they need to change them and That is the case.

Curt: Go!

jamie peacock: like We hit a few potholes and whatnot.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: The car was a little bit vibratey by the time we got home. Like Danica drove over something on the way there in the night on the freeway.

Curt: God.

jamie peacock: i think it was the little rubber thing for the chevrons for the temporary chevrons that was literally in the middle of our lane and she hit it

Curt: Okay. Yeah.

jamie peacock: And then I had a good many potholes on the roads because we were doing 70 k's an hour down a dust road. and you're called ready to avoid them.

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: But yeah, lots of fun.

Curt: Yeah totally.

jamie peacock: but yeah Screw that. I've been travelling and doing shit. How have you been, Kurt?

Curt: Dude, ah good. I've been ah keeping my nose to the grindstone. I was like, you know what? I'm going to build a fuck ton of pens. Yeah, sorry. The whole episode is going to be illicit girl or girls and boys. just We were both all jazzed up.

Curt: um Build a... Boatload of pens. And I i launched ah a one minute presale, which I thought would be a fantastic way to limit the amount of people that would buy my pens to a reasonable. amount where I could fulfill them in a short order.

Curt: And what I didn't. account on is when i open it for a minute anybody that got into their carts within that one minute which was a lot of people could stay in their carts and just take their time and cash and and check out slowly so That didn't limit as much as I thought it would.

Curt: So anyways, I sold more pens than I've ever sold in my life.

jamie peacock: Rookie move.

Curt: Yeah, rookie move. I basically, yeah, I...

jamie peacock: Hmm.

Curt: I've. I have many, many, many hundreds of pens to make now, which is a lovely problem, but it completely changes the game where it's like. Oh, okay. Well now like cash isn't an object to like.

Curt: anything i want to do so i have to completely rethink my inks on how i'm gonna

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: a tackle this because i don't want to have like a 10 -month delay trying to fulfill these orders.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: So I want to get everything done by year's end. um which is possible with all the equipment i have here um i just Have to keep it like.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Running flat out. So yeah.

jamie peacock: so methamphetamine and caffeine and you'll be good.

Curt: Well... I had the the order quantity I had planned. I'm like, okay. A pallet of monster. I can get through this. And now I'm like.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah, now it's like.

jamie peacock: Two pallets. Five pallets.

Curt: Or, yeah, now it's like...

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: Crystal meth or not sleep.

jamie peacock: Yeah. Hmm.

Curt: Or. yeah so i have some

jamie peacock: Uh, child labor. There we go.

Curt: Oh! I have a sneaky idea. So I was actually talking with Claude because like one of my slow processes is drilling and I don't have like high pressure. on the Hardenge.

jamie peacock: Yes. Wow.

Curt: So. um Well, I do now. um So I have a two horsepower. hydraulic pump sitting in my cart right now. that i'm gonna order and i'm gonna plumb that in and then i can use through google and tools and like yeah it's we're gonna we're gonna rethink some things differently and i'm gonna do a few of these pre -sales and if they continue to go like this then i'm just gonna Bye, Swiss.

jamie peacock: So the only concern I would have... Oh, you're running any Neat Oil, hey?

Curt: You need oil. Yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: i don't have any fun i was gonna say uh putting cooling through hydraulic pump not recommended but you're running oil so it doesn't matter

Curt: Yeah. but

Curt: i honestly would have just used a pressure washer if i was running coolant and just let it let it get cooked and buy new pressure yeah

jamie peacock: That was gonna be my suggestion. Yeah, let it eat it, let it die.

Curt: But i was I'm running oil, so... I'm like, well, hydraulic pump should do it.

jamie peacock: Yeah, okay.

Curt: so

jamie peacock: Yeah, no, that'll work perfectly. like

Curt: I think it...

jamie peacock: Okay, that'll get you drilling a lot faster.

Curt: is Good. It'll give me 3000 psi if I want it which I don't um but I can down regulate it to 1000 which I think should be ample for what I want to do. and yeah so

jamie peacock: Until it shoots. Until you break through and it shoots out the end of your machine.

Curt: Well, that's what I'm like.

jamie peacock: And then through your wall.

Curt: yeah i'm like i'll put a plug so it comes back out the 5c or like yeah i gotta it that like Because it's... I was actually concerned that the hydraulic pumps didn't have enough flow, but when we calculated it out, like the diameter of the hole, the pressure, um there's ample flow in a hydraulic pump.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: So i I won't have issues.

jamie peacock: Yeah. Okay.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I'm very curious to see how that goes.

Curt: And I can... i can toggle the high pressure valve so the motor can just run and then i can i can get the drill in the hole and then I can flick on high pressure and but

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: and then I can flick off high pressure.

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: so

jamie peacock: Um...

Curt: I'm not going to just inundate my little enclosure with oil.

jamie peacock: Yes. Yeah. I assume you know how to add custom M codes.

Curt: Oh yeah. Oh, yeah.

jamie peacock: Just with the bash scripts.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: It's like super easy

Curt: Yep.

jamie peacock: Yeah, okay, cool.

Curt: Beep, beep, beep, beep.

jamie peacock: I do that for all the part sketches and bar pullers and things. Super be easy to do on my next CNC.

Curt: Yeah, same

jamie peacock: so okay cool just making sure

Curt: i know i ran out of outputs i ran out of outputs and i'm using the gpio On the... thing and just pulling the little pins out of there because

jamie peacock: Jeez, okay How did you run out of I .O.?

Curt: So yeah, it's the same. it's the same Well, I have like all the pneumatics on the lathe. There's like... 15 pneumatic things running.

jamie peacock: Okay, fair enough.

Curt: Allah. custom output so

jamie peacock: Yeah. Um... doesn't the 7c what are you at 7c80 or something just 7c80 doesn't it have a db25 connector on it

Curt: that's Sorry, that's basically what I'm using.

jamie peacock: Oh, the DB25.

Curt: I'm just pulling off the DB25.

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: Yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: yeah i've got a brain card board if you want

Curt: So just like. Single pin. Oh, I just soldered right to that. And I have a million relays in the hard -inch from its stock.

jamie peacock: Savage mode.

Curt: it's not Yeah, it's not too any heinous. so

jamie peacock: okay now i've got because i've got boards that just break those out to uh Basically ground and then four pins and five volts for relay boards. I've got, I think it does a four and then a two relay board, and then the rest are broken out to terminal headers.

Curt: Oh sick.

jamie peacock: so that it's super easy to just

Curt: Yeah, that'd be the...

jamie peacock: connect your senses and stuff. That's how I do all my my retrofits with the 7C81s.

Curt: It'd be nice.

Curt: Yeah, that'd be the the wise way to do it, but whatever, fuck it.

jamie peacock: Yeah. Yes, but soldering sounds like a savage works too.

Curt: Yeah, it don'll it'll do. So yeah, I'm in.

jamie peacock: Yeah. It'll graft.

Curt: we'll see how that works We'll see how that works.

jamie peacock: What the...

Curt: That should help. that should And I think I can eliminate reaming at that stage too.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: because then I can push the drill nice, like I can go without pecking.

jamie peacock: Yep. Hard enough, yeah.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: So. And that'll save me a... Fuck. Ton of time. so

jamie peacock: Yeah. Very interested to see how that goes. Are you going to run a super long drill that you can drill right through the pen tube?

Curt: Give me two.

Curt: I... Don't. think so because i think no matter what i'm still going to get some inaccuracy and that changes the way the cycle feels so i think i'll just go from so it's only a 10d or a 10x hole um

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: 6 .5 millimeters. End.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: whatever, like... ah 50 millimeters deep or something like that. 60 millimeters deep.

jamie peacock: That's not that bad.

Curt: so It's not too bad.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: No.

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: So.

jamie peacock: um so it's like a standard i could just a slightly longer draw

Curt: Yeah, like and the tool is spendy but it's not that it's like two three hundred bucks Canadian so like it's totally

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: it's totally reasonable

jamie peacock: Yeah, I just spent a bunch of money on carbide drills. It hurts my ring piece, but it is what it is. they're 8 .7 so the taps will last longer

Curt: Yeah. the

jamie peacock: uh because we've got 800 parts on the tap and i'm like

Curt: Ah.

jamie peacock: That's putting it close to one luck. That's putting us very close to one rand apart on the tap. Like, there's not one round of pot and tooling on these pots.

Curt: Mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: Um, So yeah, I spent a bunch of money on bigger drills that finally came in after... Flipping four weeks. ah They'll be delivered tomorrow.

Curt: oh shit

jamie peacock: we need We need them. I'm going to try to sharpen the drill in the morning, the carbide drill, the chip to tip.

Curt: oh

jamie peacock: It's just on the tip. It's not on the flanks. so i can put on the tool and kind of grind and just grind the tip clean and then put a relief on it quickly fortunately i have a tool and cutter grinder

Curt: Right.

Curt: i forgot you had that yeah that helps

jamie peacock: Um, I have all the toys.

Curt: It helps.

jamie peacock: I need to grind a bunch of anchor point pads tomorrow because I need to anodize and ship anchor points.

Curt: Sick.

jamie peacock: So yeah, the the trip has put a lot of orders in the order queue. So I need to start processing those out here along with.

Curt: Nice.

jamie peacock: other stuff i don't know did we discuss the big ass order i was quoting where they basically wanted to buy out my november Oh, sorry, they wanted to buy me out until November.

Curt: I think. Was that the one you were working on on the plane?

jamie peacock: The one that I still haven't got finalized drawings and models for, yes.

Curt: Good luck.

Curt: Yeah, yeah. we Touched on it, but yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, that one Hmm.

Curt: What's the update on that?

jamie peacock: They're still making changes. They found an issue yesterday. today I've got to probably get on a call tomorrow with the guy designing it. He's like, this is above my pay grade. I need another set of eyes. So I'll then go through the whole thing with him and be like ah here's a fuck up there's a fuck up and just like try and hit everything before it becomes a problem Um,

jamie peacock: turns out we're not going to need to aircon the whole machine we have a plan I'm gonna... basically machine perimeters on everything Leave. A little bit where it's critical. and drill the holes undersize.

jamie peacock: and then let everything sit. and then time it that it's going to be like 22 degrees for a while that everything is saturated at the same temperature, throw the pot in, probe it. bore the holes with ah with a boring head So they're on position.

jamie peacock: and just pull the whole... in a 10 minute cycle. So we should have a relatively high accuracy then. We're not going to be doing 1 ,500 RPM or 2 ,000 RPM on the boring head.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: it's not going to generate a shitload of heat then we should be able to keep it Relatively accurate.

Curt: Yeah, especially if your coolant is at a decent temperature.

jamie peacock: Yep. So I'm going to go buy a bunch of temperature dinguses and throw them everywhere, on the casting, in the machine.

Curt: You'll be fine. Yeah.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: I want to be able to see what everything's temperature's at. and then let it heat soak and probably Um... like 10 a .m around that time we'll be at the temperature we need to be and i'll just a lot a day for it and i will wait till everything is at temperature and then take go And then we hit it.

jamie peacock: and do everything in one go but yeah like i need to work tonight on fixturing Um, I've decided I'm just invoicing them. He has invoice one of three. This covers fixturing materials and... designing of fixtures Machining of fixtures is a separate one and machining of parts is a separate invoice.

jamie peacock: Because...

Curt: Mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: They want me to start as soon as I can. I'm like, I don't. I can't. I don't have finished designs. And until I have them. I can do nothing. Because I'm designing a vacuum fixture that goes around all the holes so that i can hold the plate with vacuum and bore the holes through

Curt: Right, yeah yeah yeah.

jamie peacock: So like this

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: a lot of minutiae that's going into the stupid job. Um, but yeah they're expecting a telephone number at the bottom of the invoice so it's one

Curt: Right, right. Yeah yeah Exactly.

jamie peacock: No. So. Doesn't matter. uh but yeah they're basically on a bad day expecting to buy my capacity out until november

Curt: All right.

jamie peacock: which is a problem for my product lines but I will squeeze stuff in.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: yeah the customer wanted to send me stupid shit tomorrow so i'm like yeah i'll send it i'll squeeze it in sometime Um, Yeah, I've got a boatload I've got a mag base order that needs to go out. I've got stuff at Anna I need to pick up tomorrow.

jamie peacock: Um, And then finish machine. engrave and shop out. before month end because, well, I like money.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: So I need to get that squared away. And then... yeah I'm gonna have to make a list. There's so much stuff going on. And then while I was driving home today, I designed a new product.

Curt: I'll throw that on the fire. Why not?

jamie peacock: Yeah, why not?

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: it's There's not that much that I have to make on it. Most of it's just going to be sheet metal sent off for laser. And bending. It is a center mocking. contraption. So you take a block of material.

jamie peacock: You preset the thing so the Little guard fancy things we'll have. say 10 millimeters of spring -loadedness you drop your plates in you slide it you push it against the back wall and it punches a line so that you can put it in your vase and just align the center.

Curt: Hmm.

Curt: That's cool.

jamie peacock: So easy, quick way to just go ka -dunk.

Curt: That's a cool idea.

jamie peacock: and then it's done instead of a ruler and scribe a line and all this cock you just grab it push it into it it's going to have a basically an automatic center punch Make similar to that mechanism that as you push back it

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: Cocks. fires and when you come away it resets And then it just punches a line into the back of the pot.

Curt: That's cool. That's a smart idea.

jamie peacock: So... Yeah, I think it'll be a useful so be useful tool for me. If other people want them, I'll make them and sell them. Knock.

Curt: Cool.

jamie peacock: because that's my new, so.

Curt: Take care.

jamie peacock: Mr. Gray? has now forced me to move to using my zero points to zero points with my self -centering vices. because i've been very lazy and haven't i've been probing parts.

Curt: Good boy. yeah

jamie peacock: And he's like, what?

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Mwah. So yeah, now I need to. Fix that. Um, So we will be fixing that. And the easiest way to do it is to have a center punched. uh Piece of stock that went a place in the vase. I know it's on center.

Curt: right Right, right.

jamie peacock: Because now my center of my vast in both axes is the

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: the zero of the the work holding

Curt: Okay, yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, well, my zero point is the anchor point, but... There's a distance and yeah.

Curt: I get it. Yeah. yeah

jamie peacock: It's based off of there that doesn't move in theory um And then also Mr. Firmworks, Joshua. is coming out with a mini vos so i'm like joshua

Curt: Mm -hmm

jamie peacock: I need information please. I may need to buy three of them from you because... my vases are good and all but I want better. better quality vassals So I might put three of those in a row or two of them in a row like I've got. for doing my op ones and potentially obtuse because this has got um

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: They're self -centering, but he's got a softball system for them.

Curt: You see that murdered out black, like flat black one he posted? Sick.

jamie peacock: Dude.

Curt: That's a sick looking vice.

jamie peacock: It's pretty.

Curt: ah Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah. So I've been messaging him, I'm like, hey, I need information. Like I need to know about this. want to replace bosses now is the time Because I have got a four -inch chick vast downstairs that I'm going to...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: a dual station that'll become my big work my four inch work for us

Curt: Mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: Um... But... i need something small for small blocks because a lot of what i do is small so don't use a 4 inch fast when you can use a 2 inch fast.

Curt: I love that we have so many friends in this world that we can just be like. We just go rub their back. Be like. Like, hey, you sell these cool things. Can I buy some off you? It's like.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah, it's like that's so cool. like

jamie peacock: I'm like, I need pricing and availability. like i need I need information. I want to buy them. like

Curt: That's awesome.

jamie peacock: Brawl the Bard from him, then from Chana.

Curt: Hell yeah. Hell yeah.

jamie peacock: Like much rather.

Curt: Yeah. yeah

jamie peacock: um but yeah i saw it while i was driving today while danica was driving i was playing on my phone and i saw some of the posts i'm like moist.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: That's all I got.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: We will be harassing him.

Curt: I agree. Yeah.

jamie peacock: um But yeah, and then...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: ah Yeah, IMTS resulted in... freddy's Um, so I'm busy chatting to Simon from Freddie about that.

Curt: Mm -hmm

jamie peacock: There will be updates in the coming weeks as to what is happening there. um But yeah, quite excited because we're going to be running Tufnel on a two -monthly basis going forward. So the first we're doing a set of parts for this job.

jamie peacock: I've got to make, I think I want to make eight 400 by 400 pallets. to be able to do this job.

Curt: m

jamie peacock: Um, So we're gonna have a vacuum chuck. We throw these things on, vacuum them down. Machinal features and And then there's like a million different freaking variants. and i need to bolt them from below and i'll make a method through the palette and then drop the pallet on and machine the tops.

jamie peacock: so

Curt: dr Gotcha, gotcha.

jamie peacock: Fun Tom's. a whole bunch of work holding stuff which I enjoy so I don't really care. um but yeah we are gonna have to push really hard when i get back to get the office done as well because currently my desk is covered in packing materials and assembly things, and that needs to go to its own dedicated space.

Curt: Yeah, yeah, fair, fair.

jamie peacock: So... yeah, office is going to have to, I'm just going to have to take half a day and do the office. because that's all it's going to take is half a day it's just finding half a day is a little tricky

Curt: Yeah, I, yeah. I've...

jamie peacock: as you know

Curt: i I'm glad we're both. just absolutely swamped beyond belief which is cool that's so cool that you You take a trip and you you take a trip and you come back like cash positive.

jamie peacock: Yeah, it is really cool.

jamie peacock: Well, yeah And also Mr.

Curt: okay

jamie peacock: Gray was like, hey, you need to make these dovetail vases out of stainless. so out of steel so we're going to be doing a stainless version of them 303 Um,

Curt: Cute.

jamie peacock: Yes. and luckily i got a hydraulic holder while i was overseas for doing the finishing on those so winning Um,

Curt: beautiful, nice

jamie peacock: Yeah, so we're gonna do a 303 version of it. And that's obviously going to be more. more expensive, but it'll be NASA. and potentially longer lasting. We shall see.

Curt: Yibble. I think you're. priced. at the very low end of what you're offering for like Quality wise, so I don't think anyone's going to balk at him.

jamie peacock: prices going up so yeah

Curt: Yeah, no one's no one's going to care if you jump the price.

jamie peacock: I got shut out about my price while I was in the US.

Curt: Be like. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Price is going up on the dovetail vices. um i actually have none i've well i've got i think six that need to be analyzed and that's it on on the batch.

Curt: Yeah, 100%, 100%.

jamie peacock: Um, So buy this week or the price goes up.

Curt: Yeah, gobble gobble, folks.

jamie peacock: Um, Yeah. i literally I was selling them at IMTS. Like literally behind the curtain taking cash and giving oaks. Uh...

Curt: but

jamie peacock: don't tell bosses because i took almost stuck with me

Curt: Just opening your jacket, just lined with vices.

jamie peacock: Dude, I was supposed to sing lots of shitty lines here, so it was great.

Curt: I know I was watching.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Sick.

jamie peacock: Yeah, i was I was having a blast there. um But yeah, I mean, you've you've just been stuck in your your workshop.

Curt: Cool.

jamie peacock: Oh, ah your brushes are with Jacob.

Curt: Oh, sick. Okay, I'll reach out to that boy.

jamie peacock: No, you're polishing brushes. Did you buy a 5XS yet? for uh brushing your parts

Curt: No, no, but maybe I will now. Yeah. no Yeah.

jamie peacock: I reckon that's a really cunning b plan that you can position and get like... The way you want it.

Curt: It's It's a good play actually on this last run. um I swapped in tools a little faster than I normally did and I was like When I went to finishing, I'm like, oh. yeah this makes sense to just bin this tool when it's at like 50 % as opposed to like 25 % life, I'm just like.

Curt: Because I'm like, now my finishing is half as much because it's just like the tool marks are not existing. So I was like. Ooh. Okay. This is worth it.

jamie peacock: So also when...

Curt: $20 end mill.

jamie peacock: When are you getting a centrifugal tumbler that I send you information on?

Curt: Uh... Probably soon. I just bought two, ah like the little Rebel 17.

jamie peacock: Yeah, I saw those things.

Curt: rotary tumblers yeah because my little barrel tumbler is it did ah It did its job. that Folks, that thing has tumbled.

jamie peacock: Yeah. It's worked well.

Curt: thousands of pens and uh it works great but the problem is it's just the cycle actually you know what the cycle is faster than the little like rebel 17s i bought

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Um, Oh, he's good. He froze for a second.

jamie peacock: No, no, I'm good.

Curt: um but that little those little rebels haven't I could buy 20 of them. line them all up and

jamie peacock: Well.

Curt: The finish that's coming off of them is. Super nice. I am very happy with it. so

jamie peacock: So AJ and I were having a discussion about throwing an AC servo onto one of those tumblers.

Curt: Oh, so you can go, yeah, so you can go back and forth?

jamie peacock: So you can oscillate and vibrate and then go back to just normal spinning.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: and then oscillate vibrate so i'm kind of

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Tempted to pursue that. although looking at how the high energy tumblers work it's really freaking cool So the two drums are driven with belts.

Curt: They are sick. yeah

jamie peacock: um So there's a pulley in the middle that's fixed on the axle. and then when the whole thing spins those spin opposite to the direction of travel It's really f freaking cool. Um,

Curt: They are awesome.

jamie peacock: bye y 'all they are really cool uh my tumbling game needs to get kicked up a notch but that entails me having somewhere way to store my tumblers which I currently don't have.

Curt: Yeah, well, it's... ah like As we've talked about a million times, there's so many facets of tumbling. Like these ones, it lets me tumble wet because of my barrel tumbler just wasn't super well sealed where these are.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: So I can tumble like. Fully. in um like underwater which Changes the finish wildly.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: so like But I use it mainly for just like imparting a visual finish. I'm not trying to really deburr. ah So it's different for me, but yeah, now it's. i'm happy with them and they're silent i could like i could have it running during the podcast and it would be Fine.

jamie peacock: I'm...

jamie peacock: Yeah. i had a long chat with a couple of the polishing and finishing guys about tumbling medias and whatnot and what to use where because obviously now i'm going to need stainless tumbling media

Curt: Yeah. Yep.

jamie peacock: for polishing or for deburring and polishing stainless. or getting a matte finish and now i'm going to go buy 25 kg of that and dump out the big tumblers so that out of don't pull the early media out so i think i might build a new tumblr that has a door on it Just so I don't have to deal with that.

Curt: Abyssal.

jamie peacock: Yeah. um There has been talk of building a new Tumblr. um potentially building a roto molding mold and then molding the the tub

Curt: Mmm. Yeah. yeah

jamie peacock: because it's not particularly difficult to build a rotor molding mold and then we can We can make the tops Because that's the the big thing is the types.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Everything else is easy.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: um john there's been some conversations with a few of my mates about doing that

Curt: I will um... I will actually, EDC Outlaw, shout out to that boy. I chat with him on occasion and ah he linked me to a post he did. I will link it in the show notes. about tumbling media. and how to impart like some absolutely beautiful finishes i think he was putting it on stainless but like different materials they use and uh different process different tumbling styles and yeah he's he's getting like mirror finish parts out so It's pretty sick, so.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: I'll post that.

jamie peacock: I was chatting to the... I'll change to a couple of the tumbling guys about different finishes and it's yeah it's very interesting to

Curt: Oh yeah.

jamie peacock: how they get to a mirror finish like it's multiple different medias but it's very achievable

Curt: oh yeah and it changes depending on like what you're using but yeah it's you can do a fucking lot way more than i thought you could and sam

jamie peacock: Yeah. it's yeah It's a whole science in itself.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah, I've just been...

jamie peacock: Yeah. Um, i also might finally have a line on extruded square bar for making my blank palettes

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: or rectangular ball

Curt: Oh, okay, okay.

jamie peacock: Yes, you remember the stupid impellers that I was making?

Curt: Yes. Yeah. So they wanted for like a dollar.

jamie peacock: Yes!

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, buzz draws. So they had a sample run of material made. at Eurasteel.

Curt: okay

jamie peacock: Because no, they're going to buy lots. and they have not taken it yet and it's finally up for sale. So I'm going to get it at that price plus discounted. uh there's like nine nine six meter length so it's not gonna be cheap

Curt: Sick.

jamie peacock: But... It's, if I remember correctly, it's 30 millimeters thick. Um... Five inches wide? Six minute long.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: so then it's perfect for making palettes that fit so like Then I'm going to put on the side here, you want blank material. Tell me what length you want. We cut the length. and if you really want i'll put the the blank stuff in but there you go easy way to get ball

Curt: Ooh, yeah.

jamie peacock: let me ship you a chunk of aluminium around the world um

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: But even for my own use, it'll be super useful to have.

Curt: Totally, yeah

jamie peacock: Yeah. run up my euro steel account buying material i have no use for Winning.

Curt: oh which i have to after the podcast i have to talk to you about how much i can pocket from the underside of one of your palettes so

jamie peacock: o Interesting, okay.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: We will. ah We will have a chat about that.

Curt: I just need to, I need to like knife maker it. So I'm just, I'm just curious.

jamie peacock: Yeah. Okay.

Curt: I think I can do a three.

jamie peacock: No, 100%.

Curt: Like a three star is what I'll use so you can still get a smooth contact. Then obviously give you a bunch of meat around the locating areas, but I'm just kind of curious to see.

jamie peacock: Yeah. okay no no we'll have we'll have a look because yeah that is one thing worth knife makering at

Curt: what can be done. so

jamie peacock: it can be a bit of a ball ache with the thickness

Curt: and yeah for that like except for the price of the pallets it's not a big deal like i could just be like oh instead of making one pallet i'll just make fucking 10 because like like I said you

jamie peacock: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I should probably make some more blank palettes. I had to order 50 more pull studs because I'm running low. I've only got like 25 in stock and I need.

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: I need 36 or 48 for this job.

Curt: Oh fuck.

jamie peacock: So like as soon as these ones are arrive, I'm going to order another 50.

Curt: Yeah. yeah

jamie peacock: that i've got i also bought another ball mark i bought a 11 to 14 ball mark

Curt: Sick.

Curt: o

jamie peacock: Yeah, so that I can measure 12 millimeters. because I don't have anything to accurately measure that and that's what the diameters of all the inserts are.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: for this job. Salam alaikum. Time is nigh. because i've got an 8 to 10 and then now i'm gonna have an 11 to 14 and i've got 14 to 17.

Curt: I'm sorry.

jamie peacock: So as long as it's not between 10 and 11, I'm good.

Curt: Fair enough.

jamie peacock: There is one that does. I think it does nine to... 12 or something um i just was trying not to spend all my money in one go

Curt: Yeah, fair enough. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, trying to be a responsible adult, it's really difficult.

Curt: yeah Yep. Beep, beep, beep.

jamie peacock: Um. Speaking of responsible adults...

Curt: What's up?

jamie peacock: We have Patreons! who make the wheels on the minecart go round and round.

Curt: Hmm. Ba -ba -ba -ba -ba. Another one.

jamie peacock: There we go and also help with this kind of thing

Curt: You patrons are my favorite. You let let me know who... Helps with that, by the way, I will make sure that they get a care package 100 % because I was.

jamie peacock: I will do. Um...

Curt: Great enjoyment.

jamie peacock: it was yeah It was great. Dude, it was so good. But yeah, met a bunch of our patrons at IMTS. Thank you, patrons. for your patronage. um all money for patreon goes towards imts trips and zencaster soon to be probably riverside um And yeah, just covering the cost of running the the podcast.

Curt: me

jamie peacock: but Most of it goes towards IMT's trip, and it is greatly appreciated. and There may also be some serious potential perks coming up. or potential perk coming up.

Curt: Heh heh heh.

jamie peacock: But there'll be more information on that coming soon. But yeah, but... the top tier patrons get their name shouted out every week And anyone above the $6 tier gets the after show every week.

jamie peacock: And from next week, we should be back to the normal schedule. But yeah, top tier Patreons are Jade from Benchmark20, Luke from Fabtastic. AJ from Strike Manufacturing, Jason S. I hung out all week with that IMTS, which was great.

jamie peacock: ej from nocturnal welding who's doing cool things on anchor point pallets finally um The Aussie machinist, Christian, ah who I'll also hang out with. oh uh all we got ideas christian olsen charles watt who bought an anchor point thank you uh carl from curse machine Who won a machine at IMTS?

Curt: he

jamie peacock: Like a full -on VMC, like wild. Matt from Offworld Gear, who I got some pens.

Curt: Sick.

jamie peacock: No, Offworld Gear. No, who has a really cool mouth and seems to have fixed his problem.

Curt: Nice dude. Yeah.

jamie peacock: ah Alex B, who couldn't make a time test. John from Jersey Performance and Engine Tricks, whose shirt I was wearing today while driving. And was that on? Yes. Matt from Modern Fuel who gave me two pens at IMTS. Thank you very much.

jamie peacock: I lost the cap from the copper one, but I found it. So I'm going to put an O -ring in it like you suggested.

Curt: ya

jamie peacock: Um, Josh from Lates and Machinos hung out with us all week. at IMTS. Greg from Tabletop Machine Shop. who didn't make it to IMTS. Ben from Prickly Pear Prototypes. Not sure if he was there. Jesse from Data Proto, who I met at IMTS. Thank you all, you guys. It is great. Again, greatly appreciated. and We'll start racking up for next IMTS.

jamie peacock: So we can drag Kurt with us. If it means I fly to Canada and pull him by the ear.

Curt: Oh.

jamie peacock: That will happen.

Curt: Dude. it will not be dragging it will not be dragging like i don't care if i have to cross barbed wire trenches i like i you guys had so much fun i had such bad fomo it was ridiculous so yeah

jamie peacock: Dudes.

jamie peacock: Dude, my favorite but favorite thing from IMTS. was after the Oktoberfest with Romheld. um We were walking back. to the train station. And there were two people getting frisky on like the six story on a balcony.

jamie peacock: And I turned to Jacob.

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: My voice was finished. I turned to Jacob. jacob Shout in the bum, no babies. So he did.

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: That Friskina stopped instantly.

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: We cockblocked him. Solidly. Danik wants to make me a shirt. It's a national cock blocker.

Curt: Yeah. Or...

jamie peacock: Bye -bye.

Curt: Or you just let them know what to do.

jamie peacock: We got up to so much mischief.

Curt: Maybe they're like genius idea. Let's go inside.

jamie peacock: Yeah, exactly No, we got up to a lot of mischief in Chicago. It was great. Thank you.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: We ended up at having dinner with a bunch of the guys.

Curt: It looked it.

jamie peacock: a couple of nights it was it was a hell of a lot of fun

Curt: That's awesome. That is so cool.

jamie peacock: And got to see all the all the peeps. that Got the hang of the meat and yeah. and whatnot.

Curt: And you know what?

jamie peacock: It was yeah

Curt: even from afar i had so much enjoyment with you guys posting all this shit and i got a hundred billion dms from all the people that were there and like and then me and uh like a few people that were not there were crying into our coffees together and reading like it was a good time like i had a good time i had i would have had a way better time being there

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Arguably, we had better interactions without me being there because Paper Kurt generated a lot of fucking interactions for us.

jamie peacock: oop

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: But...

jamie peacock: yeah

Curt: But it was, yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, it was a blast.

Curt: Next time, folks. Yeah.

jamie peacock: there's The show we did on average 16 ,000 steps a day.

Curt: That's nuts.

jamie peacock: according to my watch that I don't trust.

Curt: That's nuts.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: It's a lot of walking. It's f freaking great We did more than that in New York because my wife's a crazy person.

Curt: Mm.

jamie peacock: um Good job. Have we spoken since I've been to New York?

Curt: ah Yeah, you told me that you hated it because it smells like piss and there's too many people.

jamie peacock: Yeah, it smells like piss and the people are dickheads. Yeah. Okay, cool.

Curt: Yeah, dude.

jamie peacock: Just checking. Just wanted to clarify that.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Also, the Statue of Liberty is this big. um

Curt: Yeah, it's not as big as you think. yeah

jamie peacock: Dude, Dozoc should be professional dick pic pic.

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: Photographers. That's all I have to say about the Statue of Liberty. They should be professional. Mad Men Honor.

Curt: Just get the angle angle right, yeah.

jamie peacock: photographers. Dude, it's all about the angle. Um, Yeah, that was ah that was an interesting experience going to New York. uh only reason i want to go back is to see the aircraft carrier that you can tour.

jamie peacock: i didn't get a chance to do that that's that is literally the only reason i go back to that

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: place. Let me not call it mean names.

Curt: Yeah, forever.

jamie peacock: um but yeah and then all cheetah was in town so there was gridlock warnings and because he was being a novel going to the g20 all that United Nations or some shit.

Curt: Right, right.

jamie peacock: Some hippie crap.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: That's all.

Curt: yeah i do you You have to see that city.

jamie peacock: Anyway...

Curt: what like Even if you don't like people, if you don't like whatever.

jamie peacock: Yo.

Curt: I thought it was cool as shit. I would love to be in New York for a certain period of time. I don't really want to live there, but it is a fucking trip to...

jamie peacock: Yeah, it's about 14 minutes

Curt: See it. You're like.

Curt: that's all yeah That's all you had before your...

jamie peacock: So when you get off the Staten Island ferry, you walk to the Korea War Monument to go see the old South African flag.

Curt: Raging.

jamie peacock: And then walk back to the ferry and that's it. You're done with New York. Finished.

jamie peacock: danik also made me go to a world war one monument in staten island

Curt: yeah

Curt: Oh cool.

jamie peacock: Like, we got an Uber there.

Curt: Cool.

jamie peacock: Was that big?

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: on the side of the road

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: we were expecting a big thing like we're like

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Uber says, yeah, we get on. Oh, there it is across the road. and then we caught a bus for like 45 minutes to saturn island ferry and then went into new york uh but it was a fun adventure like i i enjoyed my time in the us i'm happy to be home

Curt: Oh, nice.

Curt: Yeah, totally.

Curt: Did you have a hot dog from from a street vendor?

jamie peacock: doing all I did not.

Curt: You got to do it. That's important.

jamie peacock: We had pizza.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: from a pizza place, from a little pizza place, yeah.

Curt: That will work. That'll work. Yeah, yeah that'll work.

jamie peacock: uh and we had Went to some restaurant the one night.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: And I had a steak. It wasn't horrid. Um, it was a certain way inside But other than that, it was delicious.

Curt: Right on.

jamie peacock: I just don't like solenoids. um

Curt: Good enough.

jamie peacock: Bye, John. place smells like piss that's what i took away from new york

Curt: but

jamie peacock: Chicago's a much nicer city. You only get that stinky city smell every now and again. Like four or five times through the whole week.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I was there you get a whiff of it a Otherwise, it's a very nice smelling city and yeah. very clean, very well designed, very modern. New York's an old city. They hadn't burnt down and been rebuilt.

Curt: I kinda dig that. I kind of dig that like old empire.

jamie peacock: Okay. Hmm.

Curt: architecture kind of yeah.

jamie peacock: No, 100%. But Danica went on a walking tour of Chicago and saw all sorts of ghost stories and bullshit. um and like things about the architecture like it's really interesting and like

Curt: Mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: chicago is a very very interesting city i look forward to going back there in two years And. doing a bit more of that before, I think.

Curt: My uh... My wife is like, next time. She's like, we have to go. She's like, cause then she's like, I can take Danica and we can take the train up to Salem. Cause like we went to Salem and my wife's big into like witches and all that shit.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: And there's. So much cool shit to see there.

jamie peacock: Isn't that a...

Curt: She's like.

jamie peacock: Oh yeah, Salem's in that side, not Salem, Oregon. Think of the other Salem.

Curt: Yeah, sorry. Yeah, Salem, Massachusetts.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Massachusetts?

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: I think so, yeah.

jamie peacock: I think it's down.

Curt: That's true? Yeah. yeah

jamie peacock: But job anyway.

Curt: It's up. I think

jamie peacock: Is it up?

Curt: Bud.

jamie peacock: Wait.

Curt: We're going to get fucking lit up, but it's somewhere in America on the East Coast.

jamie peacock: Yeah, 100%. It's in America, yes. It's on the Not Salem, Oregon side.

Curt: It's not ah it's not on the other

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: The hippie side, it's on the other side.

jamie peacock: Well, that's what Danica Danica mom and uh josh's uh josh Not his wife, not his mom. His wife. They win. gallivanting in the mornings and then they'd meet us at the show so like the first day they walked the show

Curt: o

jamie peacock: And then from then they went out in the morning and then came to the show in the afternoon. They'd meet up with us to see what the dinner plans were.

Curt: Oh yeah.

jamie peacock: Like why not?

Curt: Yeah, yeah, exactly

jamie peacock: it's And as as an international businessman, you should be able to get in for free.

Curt: ah Yeah, yeah. well i mean you probably got in for free because you are an industry thought leader So.

jamie peacock: International businessman. Night. Well, actually actually, I was told we need to sign up as media next time. Because then we get access to the Media Lounge.

Curt: Oh. Ooh, okay.

jamie peacock: which has like snacks and coffee and things. So we're doing that next time.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: as industry thought leaders.

Curt: Yeah, good call. And just be thought with Jesus Christ.

jamie peacock: And then also, bonus feature, Keyonce won't scan you.

Curt: That's all.

Curt: Oh, you know what? You know my badge?

jamie peacock: Although I have a solution for that.

Curt: You know why i'm my badge? Well, my badge said I was from Ontario

jamie peacock: Hmm.

Curt: Um, Not. like Alberta, which I am, it's because I used Keyance's mailing address on my batch.

jamie peacock: Savage.

Curt: So I was like, fuck you guys.

jamie peacock: I've got a plan, so... I discovered that you could just go if you know someone's name, you can type their name in and then print their badge.

Curt: Ooh, okay. that's I can soon say you got mine.

jamie peacock: I resisted the urge.

Curt: yet

jamie peacock: I did resist the urge this time.

Curt: Ho ho ho ho ho!

jamie peacock: We'll see how the next two years go, and I might not.

Curt: i I know what you have planned.

jamie peacock: um I might just print 50 of them, cut out the QR codes and get everyone to stick it over their QR codes.

Curt: Oh boy. Oh boy.

jamie peacock: well Yeah, I like trolling. Trolling's fun. um actually you speak to y 'all you know let' someone about something um

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: But yeah, it... it was a draw like ah i'm happy i'm very happy to be home now but i had a lot of fun over the last three weeks

Curt: Yeah. yeah

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: It looked the part. Yeah, it looked the part.

jamie peacock: Definitely.

Curt: Huh.

jamie peacock: Definitely was the port. Um... so how is your how is your production going because i know you were making lots of parts but not as many as you'd need to.

Curt: Okay. Fuck.

jamie peacock: are you so first thing are you batching them out doing batch releases on them

Curt: it's going

jamie peacock: or you're going to go all of them at once okay not all at once

Curt: yeah of course yeah and no i'll fucking lose my mind if there's and if there's a flaw near the end like i'll i will literally just walk into traffic i'll be like it was nice seeing you world peace

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: um No, I'm going to ship my own in batches because then it's not as heinous.

jamie peacock: Yep.

Curt: The batches will be increased. um I basically just have to keep the machines running. So today is basically going to be a day I sit down where I... Roadmap everything. of what I can keep both machines running. I gotta increase my cycle time on the mill. The lathe is fine. It bar feeds most things I don't really have to worry about.

Curt: Mill, I have a few like five minute cycles, which. Got to go away. I need like. two -hour cycle is kind of minimum. so um That's where...

jamie peacock: It's a lot of parts though.

Curt: ah Thankfully. Yeah, I have a lot of shit that I can change. um With already things I have, I'm going to lean a little heavier into the anchor points and the pallets, which I'll talk to you about after. I'm just machining the pallets I have.

Curt: I'll also probably just give you a standing PO to fulfill whenever you have some downtime because I need to put... a Bunch of shit in my machine now

jamie peacock: Yeah. ne Yeah.

Curt: Uh, I. Fucking bought a brand new printer because I had to print some ultrasonic things.

jamie peacock: And we need to talk about that.

Curt: And I. I got tired of my, I was like. I was like, fuck, I'm just avoiding printing this because I'm like, it's tedious. I'm like, I don't want to do it. I don't want to sit in front of it. So I'm like.

jamie peacock: It's...

Curt: Maybe I'll...

jamie peacock: Yeah. You bought a tool, not a project.

Curt: yeah i was like i don't want to i don't i gotta turn on ox print sometimes it fails and my printer is a thousand years old and the hot end is kind of getting dicey i'm like so i gotta put new hot in it i'm like what am i doing

jamie peacock: hasn't been turned on since the end since probably beginning of july

Curt: Yeah, and I'm like it's go a two -hour print to print this one part. I'm like fuck it So like I'm like I'll buy a Voron I was like and then I then I priced out how long it's good So I i priced up my Voron to buy it And then I price it at the time.

jamie peacock: And then price larger hours.

Curt: And I was like, okay, that is now like a $10 ,000 printer. I'm like, okay, I can't afford a Voron.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: So I'm like. i just went and uh jumped on the bamboo side as much as i dislike bamboo i'm like fuck it um So I bought an H2D because i I don't need the C. I looked at the C and I'm like, I don't need the complexity of that. Like I don't do.

Curt: I do two materials.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: That's as much as I'm going to do. the Sick. Little sticker. And.

jamie peacock: Dude.

Curt: and uh yeah so anyways i bought the h2d And it is.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: life -changing. You are so right. It is.

jamie peacock: I'm looking at a P1S.

Curt: Amaze. It like. I just. i i put the first two prints i didn't even touch a slicer i'm like oh i need this like I need a. poop shoot to like change the way the poop comes out of the printer and a container and some fill our filament drying things to put in the AMSs.

Curt: I just queued him up.

jamie peacock: And you just hit print.

Curt: I hit go. I watched the first layer because I'm old school and that's what you did. And I was like, Oh, that's a beautiful first layer.

jamie peacock: Yep.

Curt: And then I just. Then I'm like, okay, well, I'll see you later, printer. And it is. Left. And that was the first print. And it came out perfectly. And then I did another one. And it came out perfectly. And then I just started doing overnight and then ran it. I ran it for like 36 hours continuously just printing shit because I was like, I'm so backlogged on what I got to do.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: And it's a... It's a tool now. it's Wild how it changed.

jamie peacock: Well, that's it.

Curt: How I print.

jamie peacock: Yeah. Not a hundred percent. Ooh, Danica's going Centurion. Maybe I should just buy this. Sorry, got distracted Expected delivery 22 December 2025. Pre -order.

Curt: For what?

jamie peacock: P2S. Their website is like almost a year out of date.

Curt: Oh. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: So.

jamie peacock: 2025. Um,

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: yeah i went and checked there's no stock at the moment I want a bigger printer.

Curt: Mm.

jamie peacock: I need a bigger printer.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I got sworn at my by my wife for wanting a bigger printer. She said, this one would be... I'm like, ah I don't care what I said. I need a bigger one.

Curt: It's... I... I don't need the space of the the H size, but... I was like, i'm buy I'm going to be spending a few thousand bucks on a printer regardless.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: And I'm like, and I'm going to keep it for a century.

jamie peacock: Give the big one.

Curt: So I'm like, fuck it. buy something that's...

jamie peacock: Yep.

Curt: Good.

jamie peacock: No, 100%.

Curt: get the nicest one i want so yeah it's

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: I'm loving it

jamie peacock: yeah that's on the queue of things move packaging materials out of my fucking office area and then i can put a printer on the lower shelf so i want to put a p whatever whatever p2s or something down there

Curt: Mm hmm.

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: uh that it's not on my table because right now my printer's on my table and that's eating up valuable table space.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: that's also got my laser on it which probably needs to go somewhere else.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: But we will see.

Curt: And honestly... one of the reasons i was against bamboos because i knew they had like they they were using like the gluten bushing so i'm like these aren't going to last very long but then i didn't realize the h series is all like linear guides so i'm like oh This thing is going to last for, like, forever. so Yeah, it's...

Curt: It did away with a lot of my concerns.

jamie peacock: Yeah, no.

Curt: Of course, you're selling your data to... you're uploading to the cloud unless you want to go the developer mode and keep it local but i was like i want the convenience of just being able to Boop!

jamie peacock: Yeah. That's it.

Curt: And walk away. So, whatever. It's almost all.

jamie peacock: No, the the trick there is to just always send butt plugs to the printer. oriented in the wrong direction. so that when people try to print them, it doesn't. automatically do them properly because they're looking at what you're printing and adding that to their like ideal settings So you need to just send like bad data to it.

Curt: Yeah, yeah Yeah. Yeah. Well.

jamie peacock: But do they work so well like you just send the print you don't even like if the beds clean You just don't even think about it now That's another reason to get an enclosed one because my printer bed gets dirty and then it doesn't stick.

Curt: and my Yeah.

Curt: And mine, even like I was, there was a little itty bitty flag of like filament at one corner.

jamie peacock: Hmm.

Curt: I'm like, oh, so I just opened the door while it was doing its checks and like just grabbed it and pulled it out. And it went like. Beep mew. Because it saw my hand come in and it's like. There's something on the bed, fuckface. I'm like, sorry, it was my hand. I close the door again.

Curt: I'm like, carry on doing what you're doing. It's like, all right, carry on. You're so fucking cool.

jamie peacock: Yeah, no. du Dude, it's a tool. It's a tool.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: it's not a nothing like we've got a job now we're quoting uh

Curt: Absolutely.

jamie peacock: It's a machine of a bunch of copper, so it's going to arrive bus balls.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: holes punched already we then need to just round the ends And... I could do it on the Slowio. There's no reason I couldn't. But do I want to fuck up one of those pieces of ball?

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: No, I don't.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Like I just I don't want to deal with it being off -center or the machine freaking the fuck out.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: It's just gonna go on the LK So that I don't have to stress about it.

Curt: totally Totally. Totally, yeah.

jamie peacock: the slow you It runs one of two things. It's the only reason it's still there. But, yeah, I think another mill is. very imminently in the future.

Curt: it's funny i had i had a story where i posted the the new bamboo sitting and then i had my little old like prussia mendel beside it and someone's like is that even fair like recording it and just like letting it watch it's just like you know i'm like yeah it's a little cucky you know you're like you you get this big strapping guy and be like yeah yeah it's a little different

jamie peacock: Yeah.

jamie peacock: ah Yeah. Hmm. Yeah, that's... Yeah.

Curt: Use your own. Imagination.

jamie peacock: There we go. ah Yeah, I need to actually take some measurements when I get to the workshop tomorrow. um With the current workshop layout an x5 might be the only option

Curt: who

jamie peacock: without moving the lk because the other option is to move the lk back or spin the lk around and then put another machine and then make my office between the two machines um Or put an X5 next to the LK.

jamie peacock: But then I don't have door access on.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Both machines. Were they touching?

Curt: ah Yeah, fair.

jamie peacock: So yeah.

Curt: Prefer.

jamie peacock: i don't know i will think about my life choices. and come to a conclusion.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Bad job. I won't be able to get it with a Siemens controller though. because by the time i do that i might as well at that point i might as well buy a bigger machine

Curt: Oh, yeah.

jamie peacock: Because it's the same process.

Curt: Honestly. For the amount of support there is out there for Syntec, like...

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: You're not going to have troubles. like there's a sh

jamie peacock: Shouldn't have an issue. I just don't feel like fucking...

Curt: i There's probably almost... If you take into account the like that whole market, there's probably more machines running that control. Like. on your side of the world versus Siemens.

jamie peacock: probably

Curt: so

jamie peacock: Yeah, but a lot of Siemens.

Curt: i I totally get you. Yeah, I do too. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Siemens is by far my favorite controller. um Yeah, I don't want to deal with the funny bullshit. Like, I know the LNCs. uh justin had to change stuff so that it would do two numbers properly and yeah i just don't deal with that shit like i want it the way i have it i like it

Curt: yeah I get it.

jamie peacock: but it very much. not worth buying a custom ordered X5 with a Siemens controller. because it puts it

Curt: Yeah I get it. I get it.

jamie peacock: Lock. with the same price as an x7 And if I'm gonna buy that, I may as well just buy the... the zoppo 600 millimeter travel Drill tap center.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: It's going to be foster. So yeah.

Curt: The... Unless you need the like the spindle speeder for the 5. The 5 almost doesn't matter. like Even when I bought it, it... didn't make sense compared to the seven but the only reason i bought it was for

jamie peacock: yes

Curt: the Like the drill tap features of it.

jamie peacock: spindle speed

Curt: Exactly. The spindle speed and the tool change.

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: Because I knew I'd be doing a ton of tiny stuff.

jamie peacock: So the... The Zoppo is also a 20k spindle. And it actually has a fucking chiller.

Curt: That's okay, that's... That's nice.

jamie peacock: And it's BBT.

Curt: If you have a space. Yeah.

jamie peacock: And 21 tools. So it kind of makes no fucking sense at that point.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Um...

Curt: Totally.

jamie peacock: Yeah I might fly to Cape Town soon and go have a look at it. but then I need to figure out how the hell I'm gonna finance it.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: because... Yep. don't have the cash on hand to buy it. don't necessarily have The orders divide like y 'all. If the orders come then yes, but until then no.

Curt: Yep. I get it.

jamie peacock: It's one of those things where you don't know yeah you don't have them

Curt: I get it.

jamie peacock: You low on capacity because you don't have a machine. But you can't get more work because you don't have a machine and you can't get a machine because you don't have more work it's like yeah um we'll see how this month goes this coming month is going to be a wild one um to try and fit everything.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: into the month. And then I've still got some retrofits I need to do.

Curt: Man.

Curt: we Ha ha.

jamie peacock: I'm very much considering bringing one of my ex -colleagues online. Knock on wood.

Curt: Oh yeah?

jamie peacock: as as a CNC tech.

Curt: Oh.

jamie peacock: And just when people have problems, I send him.

Curt: Yeah, yeah

jamie peacock: If he gets stuck, he finds me. um He's very capable. He he took over my position servicing the machinery where we used to work. when I left. So he's very capable and I can pay him next to fuck all.

Curt: Cool. cool

jamie peacock: and build large numbers. um So. Maybe. I'll have a chat and see if he's interested, because like I've got guys that say, oh, can you come look at this machine? I'm just like... No. Because by the time I get in my car, you've already started the clock running

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: so if i've got someone i can send there that's going to change the the dynamic a little bit Knock.

Curt: I... I have a question for you kind of totally switching gears. Do you have... one of the DJI pocket cameras.

Curt: but

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: Do you like it?

jamie peacock: I have an Osmo Pocket 3. Yes, I haven't really used it that much.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: It's a low light performance. Quite frankly, you guys make it.

Curt: Okay. Okay.

jamie peacock: We've got some videos that'll probably come out in the next week or two just back porch chats during INTS. that we filmed in the dark. and the video doesn't look like horseshit.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: I also have a live mock set for it.

Curt: Good to know.

jamie peacock: Or just ah the Hollyland... That marks it.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I want to find a really short. Topsy Cable. so I can use the camera receiver. on it's not the um phone receiver? because the camera receiver has a volume knob.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: And I found that the audio coming in directly from the... Dingles through the... the phone receiver is peaking. on the screen so i want to be able to turn it down a little bit

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: uh but yeah so if far so good we'll see in the coming coming days I'm gonna play with it in the workshop and see how the footage looks.

Curt: Gotcha. Gotcha.

jamie peacock: and bold. build myself a little tube for it for in the machine

Curt: mhm mhm mhm

jamie peacock: As one does. um but yeah so if far so good i like it

Curt: Okay, because I like... part of this like this is where my stupid brain kicks in this is the marketing that i i do that i don't even realize i do i'm like this is gonna be these next like few months are gonna be pretty wild changes to what i'm going on here i'm like i'm going to document it But I mean, this is my.

Curt: my rs3 mini my ronin rs3 mini

jamie peacock: Young.

Curt: And then the camera I want to put on here is a... a7c mark ii ah which is.

jamie peacock: Fucking big.

Curt: Which is fine. It's a big camera. um It's a full, like...

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: so which and like So I was looking at him like you know what I'm like and I want that camera for other reasons, but like I'm like Do I want? just a like the pocket 4 pro is like a dual screen it's got like 60 millimeter lens 20 millimeter lens like it gives me the depth of field i want it gives me high frame rate 4k.

Curt: It's... Half the price of the A7. A7C. And I'm like, it. I. I would be less scared to like put it in like. like get it close to the, you know, put it.

Curt: get cool shots with it without having to be like mangle a five pound rig around to get neat shot so

jamie peacock: Sorry.

Curt: I might buy it.

jamie peacock: I gave my gimbal to John when I was there. Okay, do you have a gimbal for your phone? No. Here you go, have a gimbal. And I now have the pockets.

Curt: Nice.

jamie peacock: Um...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I got the Pocket 3. I got it for an absolute steal. um doesn't have the that extended battery i think but It's fine. Plug it in. Um...

jamie peacock: So yeah, that's, I've got, if you want, I'll go grab my camera bag and show you the the little camera of justice. It works really, really well. I really like it.

Curt: What?

jamie peacock: The one thing you can't do is invert the direction of the stick, which is really frustrating.

Curt: And the other.

Curt: Right, yeah, yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: Yes, because push forward go down. New push forward it looks up.

Curt: Awww.

jamie peacock: I'm not Fuh! Yeah, it's not a thing you can change.

Curt: Aww.

jamie peacock: I looked i googled it because it was frustrating the shit out of me because obviously flying drones and whatnot. Push forward, go down, yeah.

Curt: Totally.

jamie peacock: Um, other than that it works really well tracks really well the low light performance is really good you'll see some stuff coming out of my machine in the next probably week or so I also wrote a magic column.

Curt: I'd like.

jamie peacock: Those things are magic.

Curt: What? I want it for the... It's just for the ease. like Flip the screen.

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: It's. recording video it's recording good audio from its lav mic that it auto pairs with like whereas like yeah i could do that with like a big my my big rig here but like it's always like

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Turn them on. collapsing. Make sure the other mic is on. Make sure they're but like this. And it's like. It just...

jamie peacock: So that I need...

Curt: There's a little more barriers to it. to make it simple

jamie peacock: The reason I got the Holly land marks is they work with my phone they work with that um They don't do on -device backup Our backup recording.

Curt: Right.

jamie peacock: like the dji's will on device back up and then when they connect they'll sync again

Curt: Right.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Um... They were $100 for two lav marks with all the accessories

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: uh and it's got the camera module and the type c module so you could in theory leave one on your camera rig when you need it You just plug it in and you've got one on there. then use the same lav marks Um,

Curt: Yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: So yeah, I don't know. I like the Holly land ones. We'll see how the audio is in the coming again coming week when i get to play with it in the workshop Um, It's got little furries and came with a whole box of shit.

jamie peacock: So like I've barely dived into it.

Curt: Yeah, well, like I was. I was super on camp of just like... the the sony a7c but then

jamie peacock: Yeah, use the big camera

Curt: And then i was like I was like, okay, when I go to the park with like my... My girls, I'm like. do i bring my gimbal and my camera i'm like no because you look like a

jamie peacock: No, because then you look like that. Creepy fucker.

Curt: Yeah. You look like a fucking psychopath in the park with children holding a gigantic camera.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: And it's fine. I bring it on on vacation, but the same thing too. Like if I bring it on vacation and I want to take like maybe a shot from us from a distance, putting it, you know. $2 ,000 camera with, you know, all this shit hanging off it and then walking away from it is fucking scary.

Curt: Whereas like, arguably, yeah, the little...

jamie peacock: Hey, you're not even in Africa, bro. You put that thing down here, by the time you turn around, it's gone.

Curt: yeah and like the puck is just it's so tiny where it's like yeah you're not getting the same depth of field there's certain things you can't do but i'm like you know what for the price i might end up just picking it up because

jamie peacock: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Our regrets. So mine went with me to PE.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I'm sorry to bled. i didn't take it on the shoot and i regret that greatly because i think i could have got some amazing shots and some amazing banter if I'd had it with us.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Um, But yeah, we went clay pigeon shooting. Somehow we managed to hit the pigeon every time it hit the ground. He connected one time. Things shattered.

Curt: ah Nice.

jamie peacock: And yeah, when Clay Pigeon's shooting it, yeah, again, would have loved to have it because just the banter between the guys was like. Some of the best shit I've heard in my life Um, Yeah.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: um Yeah, I'm looking forward to getting a bit more into the camera side, well, the filming side of things now that I have a decent camera because there's nothing worse than shooting an hour of footage, going to review it and it looks like a turd and then you're like, well, fuck, I wasted.

jamie peacock: an hour of my life.

Curt: Totally.

jamie peacock: so osmo should sort that out like looking at what robert cohen does with his one in his machine

Curt: Totally, yeah.

jamie peacock: It does pretty freaking well.

Curt: One, I guess. with the way the world is right now like for us getting in canada getting a dji thing is it's like it's like a thousand bucks canadian it's not but like for that's for the full creator combo with like all the fancy shit with it

jamie peacock: God bless you.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: And the U .S. is like double that ah or maybe one and a half that um just because they have all the import bans.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: So if I like it. Or if I don't like it, I can always sling it on eBay. and basically make my money back because then I can ship to the US.

jamie peacock: 100%.

Curt: so

jamie peacock: Yeah, the Osmo Pocket 3s are really cheap on eBay right now

Curt: I just wanted to do a lens of the 4P, so, yeah.

jamie peacock: Sorry, my wife is watching something in the background

Curt: Oops.

jamie peacock: Um, yes at full volume apparently

Curt: Sounds aggressive.

jamie peacock: um Yeah. apologies she's hasn't watched tv in like four weeks

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: So she's not catching up at full volume Um, bad job anyway uh yeah camera stuff is cool that's the gist of it I'll go grab it in between shows.

Curt: It is.

jamie peacock: So if you're in the after show, you'll get to see the Osmo 3. Um,

Curt: o

jamie peacock: Yeah. But yeah, the... The Holy Land, Mike said, chat to Jacob about it. He loves them.

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: uh the cool thing is everything's type c like you can literally go top c top c plug in the camera receiver into the osmo and

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: It works. So kind of cool.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Ciao.

Curt: Yippee -yippee.

jamie peacock: yeah I have a whole bunch of goodies I still have to sort through from IMTS.

Curt: Cool.

jamie peacock: And now I need to go buy a bunch of pull studs because... hydraulic holders. and tool setter zone probes and blah and i have a master artifact for setting my toolsetter which means I'm going to do that and then have to retouch off.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: 70 tools.

Curt: ah Yeah, write a write write a macro.

jamie peacock: So. The problem is I've got to... Load the carousel.

Curt: Right. Right. Yeah. You don't have a 70 changer.

jamie peacock: Because I can only do 16 at a time.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: yeah so i can read all the ones in the carousel that's easy but then

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, I've got to turn all the tags over and then as I put them in the machine, touch them off again or just spend the morning touching tools off.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah fair.

jamie peacock: look yeah what what i would probably end up doing is doing four tools at a time so whatever's in the spindle four positions off nine degrees off is the change position So then take that, I'll put another tool until it's in there.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Go touch it. It goes. Take the next one. and just rotate down but itate out in those four positions. Um, The annoying thing is it goes...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Super back and slowly down for the first touch. So it takes a bit of time. Um,

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Jesus, like having my mother -in -law in the house here. Um,

Curt: Yes. it's I can hear it.

jamie peacock: Do you enjoy being deaf?

Curt: hu

jamie peacock: Love? Do you enjoy being deaf? Okay, because Kurt says the show is really clear to him.

Curt: I mean, it's not that bad, but Don't make me into the monster.

jamie peacock: I'm going to make you be the monster.

Curt: Ah, whatever.

jamie peacock: I'll do it.

Curt: Put me under the bus.

jamie peacock: I'll do it. I did with Danica and Jacob.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I told them they hated each other. It took them all of two minutes to realize that they don't.

Curt: Oh yeah. the

jamie peacock: It was great. But yeah, it was quite fun leading up to it. You know, I think we'll yeah think

Curt: Shit, the snare bear.

jamie peacock: Let's count the episode there, and then we can...

Curt: Deal.

jamie peacock: do offshore about cameras and stuff Thank you to everybody for listening.

Curt: Deal.

jamie peacock: um hopefully i'll be a bit more lively next week because uh it's been a long drive today But yeah, thank you very much for listening. And if you enjoyed the show, consider of sharing, liking, all those fun things. I think taps and patients have finally overtaken us. It's taken them a while.

jamie peacock: But yeah, go check them out as well and all the other Genie podcasts.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: There's a bunch. We'll have a list going at some point. um but yeah thank you very much and we'll see you next week

Curt: <unk>s Take care all.
