00:00:16
Speaker
What's happening, everybody? Welcome to another Triple T Podcast for Knife Makers, the show where we talk about absolutely nothing for your enjoyment, your entertainment, and to just absolutely keep you glued to your speaker.
00:00:34
Speaker
From the soothing voice, Smooth Jazz 106.1. yeah. The Quiet Storm. yeah the quiet storm ah tell I'm your host, Jared Sandoval from

Weather Stories and Anecdotes

00:00:47
Speaker
Echo Blades. And as always, I have my my favorite douchey poo, Mr. Dennis Terrell from Terrell Knifeworks.
00:00:57
Speaker
How are you? Howdy. I'm good. I'm good. Almost got blown over last night. with the freedomg of did you Was it like super windy ah last night?
00:01:07
Speaker
Okay, so I... had a tournament this weekend in Brentwood at a, at a course I'm not a huge fan on of, excuse me, fan was on though. It was definitely on dude. It was ridiculous.
00:01:25
Speaker
It was so, so fucking windy. And then i thought that was bad, but then I went out like on a whim on yesterday afternoon. i swear it was like, it was hurricane status.
00:01:39
Speaker
Yeah, it was bad. It was bad. Like I hit the farthest drive I've ever hit in my life going one way and hit the shortest one i've ever hit going the other way. And they were both decently hit balls. And ah yeah, I think it was like over 300 yards. um But the wind was at my back. Just fucking took it. Man, my beard. I am.
00:02:02
Speaker
I am fucking over this beard. i'm I'm ready for it to go. It has now finally become a thing, but like golf is takes you like concentration. There's many things to to mess you up and it's hard enough already, but I'll tell you what, I'll tell you what, trying to hit a ball when your beard hair is floating around, like everywhere, all of my eyes, like it,
00:02:25
Speaker
It was insane. It was it was it it made me angry. like i I was physically- Why don't you cry about it? was going it was It was bad. I even sent a video to ah Brent and I was like, dude, it's it's it's windy.
00:02:40
Speaker
And then he's like, the first part about it, it's like my my beard's going like this, kind of like it was in Texas. And then it just kicked up one time. was i but He was like, okay, yeah, that's kind of- So if I got a a validation from a Floridian, then I felt like it was, it was yeah it was brutal. Out of nowhere.
00:02:59
Speaker
Like, you know, the big metal chairs we have in the backyard blew one of those over. Oh, that's the California. That's the big California storm right there. Yeah. Yeah. But those are fucking cast aluminum chairs. They're crazy heavy.
00:03:13
Speaker
It was, yeah. Like the palm trees were like whacking against the side of the Eve making a hell of a racket ah it was It was loud.
00:03:24
Speaker
it was It was pretty intense, dude. And it was like 80 degrees. Yeah, we were sitting in the hot tub at one point. was crazy.
00:03:35
Speaker
ah Yesterday morning, we sat in the hot tub and had coffee and it was windy as hell. Yeah, it was it was interesting, to say the least, for sure. Well, hopefully, I think think it's going to be warm the next few days. so flee I don't know that to be true or false.
00:03:53
Speaker
Well, I'm going off what my wife told

Knife Making as a Hobby

00:03:55
Speaker
me. She could have been lying to me. I don't know. yeah Yeah. And now the weather report from Triple T. Yeah. yeah Let's stop the podcast so we can check.
00:04:11
Speaker
And tell the weather where nobody else is That's right. Oh, yeah. It's going to be 92 tomorrow here. No, I'll be putting the air conditioning on.
00:04:23
Speaker
It's 90s. Hoo-ha. yeah All right. Whatever. hey, Dennis texted me.
00:04:33
Speaker
ah You going to get some shop time this week? Yeah. I've been doing pretty good, actually. Oh, do tell. I've been getting in the shop pretty ah regularly.
00:04:44
Speaker
Although, um the progress isn't quite You've been in the shop at the time. Why? I don't know.
00:04:56
Speaker
It's like I'm um i'm hand sanding my ass off. I'm grinding new knives. ah Yeah, it's just it's just a typical Jared from Echo Blades style of making.
00:05:09
Speaker
you know not Not finishing much, but I'm having fun. That's good to hear.

Challenges in Content Creation

00:05:17
Speaker
Yeah, it's been a ah It's back to a point of release of decompression.
00:05:27
Speaker
And I miss that more than, i mean, for, for all the jokes, for all the things like what happened over the last year and a half or so, um, like the joy from, from making, was gone. Like it was, it was almost like a chore.
00:05:44
Speaker
Um, and then, trying to get motivated from being at a standstill for so long. Long story short, I have been going out there by like I'm gonna go do this and this is what I'm gonna do. I don't give a shit.
00:05:59
Speaker
like And giving myself the permission to like, i just I just don't give a flying beep if I bring anything or not. Like I don't care. it's ah It's not not like the a top priority for me, but it is more it's more important for me to get out there do the process, enjoy the process and, and just enjoy knife making as a hobby because that's what it is for me.
00:06:23
Speaker
It is a hobby and, um, that's cool. So, um, but now with that being said, i do want to finish something. I do want to bring something. So I'm probably, probably going to make the the mad push here in the next couple of weeks. So see what happens. He only got two weeks.
00:06:44
Speaker
Yeah, that's what i said, a couple weeks. ye so Why is my phone buzzing? Because somebody's trying to get hold of you. What have you been up to?
00:06:57
Speaker
um I finished that stainless Bowie knife that I'm very happy with. I got a funny thing. like i I have not been on Instagram at all by the time.
00:07:10
Speaker
very minimal and uh i'll check messages but it's like it's weird because i'm i'm checking messages but i don't like look at them i see somebody's text me or messaged me and i'll just go okay i'll get to it i'll get to it and i i haven't gone i got like i don't know 20 some messages um and uh so i open up instagram and and your knife was on there and i looked down and i was like oh this thing's looking like it's getting traction i started reading some comments from people we know And it took everything in my in my power not to just like...
00:07:45
Speaker
poo-poo on it for for no reason other than just to be an asshole and didn't because you know i'm i i would i would never do that just to talk shit and ruin somebody's thing but it took me a minute though i was like okay all right it was it's it's a nice build sir you're talking about the one the the in the video the from saturday I think that was the one. Yeah. Something about a video coming up and it looked like you you had several hundred likes on it. So it looked like it it did well.
00:08:20
Speaker
Yeah. Too bad the video didn't, it didn't do that great, but YouTube is not liking me lately. That's all right. But yeah, there's like, i don't know, 20,000 views on the video, something like that, which is really sad, but.
00:08:38
Speaker
when they used to get, you know, a hundred thousand, 200,000 easily, but yeah. Maybe you got to do something different. And I'm not trying to be an asshole. I'm not trying to be an asshole. I'm like saying like, maybe you got to do like just some crazy off the wall thing that you're really not into just to try to spark some stuff. Cause like, if I look at it, like almost said, Oh, here goes another buoy. That's really what i was thinking. good advice i I don't know if it's that. um I think the the weekly Triple T videos are hurting me.
00:09:12
Speaker
I think that's what's been hurting me over the last year. Just that they only get you know a few thousand views because they're for knife makers. And I think the algorithm is seeing that, oh yeah, his videos only get a couple thousand views.
00:09:26
Speaker
So they're just not pushing the build videos. yeah If I had to guess, I think that's it. And we could, and and I think that, that, that bubble of makers too, you know, there was a time when that was all the rave, you know, the, the content for new makers to learn how to make and a lot of people getting in and thinking it's kind of level them off.
00:09:48
Speaker
Yeah. And it's just, I don't know. i think, you know, and I'm not going to get all conspiracy theorist on the YouTube algorithm, but other people have said the same thing. Like, you know, you you get a you get a boost and you're like the golden child for a while and then it just dies.
00:10:09
Speaker
Like Honor Caglar from Dies in Every Film said the same thing. um i know, um what's his name?
00:10:21
Speaker
Fireway Forge. Same kind of thing. Like videos just aren't getting what they used to get. But then some of the newer makers come in and, you know, their channels are doing well. And it's like, oh, okay.
00:10:34
Speaker
The algorithm is like switched over to somebody else. And it's hard to regain that. you know, that audience or not the audience, but that, that gold star from the algorithm.
00:10:46
Speaker
okay So I think once you lose, whether it's the consistency or the, you know, the love of the algorithm, it's hard to get it back.
00:10:58
Speaker
Sure. So, well, I mean, I've contemplated like, oh, maybe I'll start a new channel and just post only my build videos up there and not the triple T's and just like literally repost the same videos and ah and see how that does.
00:11:17
Speaker
But then I have to mind it just sounds like a whole lot of work to me and I'm probably not going to do it. But.

Product Reviews and Sponsor Promotions

00:11:24
Speaker
yeah i mean it's accept Acceptance is key, my friend. yeah Doing it for the love of doing it as opposed to you know the ah
00:11:37
Speaker
d
00:11:40
Speaker
What is that? No, no. Or cartwheels, you know, like, Hey, look at me. I mean, I'll be honest. I'm kind of, I, I still like doing the weekly like triple T videos if I have a good topic, but the build videos there, it's hard to get motivated to put up build videos now.
00:12:02
Speaker
They take so much time. And as when you're getting, oh, I made $45 on that video. It took me 25 hours. Yeah. I mean, that's that's interesting. That's an interesting take, right?
00:12:18
Speaker
Because you're doing it for a living now, right? Like making. So there is ah there is a reasonable you know way to look at it with income.
00:12:30
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, then there's a ah point of like, you want to stay relevant and people know me from YouTube and that kind of thing. So, you know, I'm not saying I'm going to stop, but it's, it's harder and harder to get motivated to do videos.
00:12:45
Speaker
Um, but, uh, everyone seemed to like this one. So that was good. The people that watched it, the people that YouTube actually pushed it to. you go. Yeah. Hopefully it's good to a buyer.
00:12:57
Speaker
Yeah. That's what really matters. Right. um know it Oh, go ahead. No, you go. No, I refuse. No, I'm not going to do it.
00:13:08
Speaker
No. Do you, do we, ah do we have a clip called, ah so why don't you cry about it? How about no? That's the one I was thinking about. Do you have that? Uh,
00:13:20
Speaker
um about Yeah, somebody was I was talking to somebody at work the other day and they were like, how about no? And I was like, how about no? like And I was like, where the i mean, because that's a great line, but a good movie, too. But I was like, why do I know? Why did that come out? I'm like so quick. And then I started thinking, I think that's a freaking sound drop with you.
00:13:43
Speaker
It is. um No, I was talking about the stainless Damascus buoy. I finished that up. you You held the handle for that thing. did. I did. i'm I'm pretty pleased with that handle design. I'm going be using that one again. so Yeah, that was that was good. That was really comfy.
00:14:03
Speaker
Yeah. um And I think the knife turned out pretty cool. So, but ah Wednesday's video, sorry, Thursday's video I recorded on Wednesday um will be everything that I'm bringing to blade show.
00:14:18
Speaker
So like an overview of all the knives and the table design and the, the, the little setup, the display for the knives riveting riveting.
00:14:32
Speaker
But for my Patreon members, if they want to purchase any pre-purchase any of these knives before Bladeshow, you will be able to do that. So that's why. And I'll post it on the Patreon as well um on for those knives.
00:14:50
Speaker
So this will be the first time that I've done this, a pre-purchase before the show. So go check those out. In this Thursday's video,
00:15:01
Speaker
so check them out I did get the that is cool go do that crazy not crazy a good opportunity for your beautiful Patreon supporters God bless their souls
00:15:22
Speaker
I did ah get that purple sandpaper ah and and I like it it's good right It is good. Yeah. You like it better than the other stuff that you promoted?
00:15:36
Speaker
I didn't promote anything. um But I liked the price. I liked the price a lot better for the other. ah But this stuff was good.
00:15:48
Speaker
Yeah. I only got the 220. And i was talking. I can't think. I think it was Brent. And who was talking. He's like, I think I got that in 800. But it doesn't really last long. I was like, bro, there is no 800 or higher grit that lasts long.
00:16:02
Speaker
No. that shit goes in seconds. Like it doesn't, there's nothing there. Like you're going to burn through all that. Yeah. I've never seen so some, some riveting, but that, the two 20, you could tell it's, it's ceramic.
00:16:18
Speaker
Yeah. And I, um I almost feel like it's coarser than two 20. A little bit. Right. Did you find that? Yep. A little bit. And I've been, I was doing a, um a stone,
00:16:33
Speaker
then the paper, then back to the stone and then back to the paper. And that was doing really good. I liked that little process. So yeah, that was good. Cool.
00:16:43
Speaker
i I, I took the suggestion and, uh, I was, I was happy with it. Yeah, no, I'm, I'm pretty pleased. The only part i don't like is I can't rip the sandpaper. That part, yeah that's you gotta have scissors handy, um, which is a bit of a pain, but You get used to it.
00:17:01
Speaker
Not if you're Jared, then you have three pairs of scissors that you can't find. I was just going to say that are that are not on the table that you're at. No, i keep one at the table I'm at, but I did misplace...
00:17:15
Speaker
A pair of scissors. And I found them last night because apparently I used it to in the deep, dark crevices of an air compressor line behind my oven. i was like, you know, you just always have that one spot where something's behind something. And that's where I have a whole valve set up behind one of the ovens. And I found it, though. So I was very pleased.
00:17:38
Speaker
Did you finally fix your air compressor? I did. That's how long the scissors have been missing for a whole Did you turn it down or is it still at like 1,000 PSI? Yeah, it's at 1,000, but I don't leave it charged. So that much.
00:17:55
Speaker
One step at a time, Dennis. Come on. Oh, so you don't even have it on? No.
00:18:01
Speaker
I mean, the compressor is full, but I have a ah valve right at the yeah right after it. So the tank's full. I just turn the air off and on, charge the lines, and then kill the lines when I'm done.
00:18:12
Speaker
Oh, look at you all. Fancy. Yeah. I got a Jeff, dude.
00:18:21
Speaker
Oh, man.
00:18:24
Speaker
So we should talk about Baker Forge and Tool. And if you guys are busy making knives for Blade Show and you just don't have time to forge something, you should go buy some steel from Baker Forge and get those knives done quick.
00:18:41
Speaker
ah Check them out. Do you know what the drop is this week? I didn't see one. I didn't. Nope. I mean, we did such a fantastic job on the the limited quality. What you mean? Don't go. No, no. The limited quality was all you, buddy.
00:18:56
Speaker
okay i Okay. I said that, but the rest of the... oh He did razz me for for busting his balls on the numbered pattern.
00:19:07
Speaker
Yeah, we just, we killed that one. I bet you they got so many orders from that last time. We shouldn't even have to do this one. We get buy, buy week. Yeah, week right before June. Yeah, but go get some high quality.
00:19:26
Speaker
ah go get high. deal yeah Use the discount code TTT10 while you're there. Pick up some Gator Piss, some Grime Reaper, some Gator Skin, all of the Gators.
00:19:43
Speaker
All the Piss. Yeah, I actually used the Gator Piss Max on that um ah Stainless Damascus Bowie. I'm going to show you too.
00:19:54
Speaker
It's very weird because, I mean, it did an excellent job at etching it, but it's CPM 154 and abl And when it etched, like the etching line is so fine that it's not like regular Damascus. Like when you etch it, it's kind of like a, sorry, it's in my throat. It's like a, so like you can feel it and it's just like a, a bump. This is like, like an edge.
00:20:24
Speaker
Like there are hard edges between the layers that are almost sharp. On a deep, it's really bizarre. I've never seen, like I don't etch that much Damascus and I did a really deep etch on this stainless Damascus.
00:20:38
Speaker
It's really cool. It's a cool effect, but it's not like, you know, when when you do a deep etch on carbon Damascus, it's still, you can feel bumps, but you don't feel any jagged edges.
00:20:52
Speaker
On this one, you actually feel like they're... So it's not only like like a distinct break in the color, there's like... Yeah, there is a distinct... Yeah, there's a feel.
00:21:04
Speaker
Like it's a hard edge between the lines. And plus, it's a pretty bold pattern. So it's... Yeah, it's it's cool. um Anyway, so get yourself some ah Gator or Piss of all the varieties and ah go check out the Baker Forge booth at Blade Show.
00:21:23
Speaker
I'm sure they're going to bring all kinds of fancy stuff. So go check them out. Again, use the discount code TTT10 and I think they'll even honor that at the show. better now go use it go tell him me you want some low quality um steel see what he says this week's job is

Personal Stories and Humor

00:21:44
Speaker
uh fury chevron fury which one what's that look like it looks like uh chevron a furious chevron oh chevron i didn't hear the chevron part okay
00:21:58
Speaker
Really cool. Use the app for one day early access to the drop next week. Get ahead of all the the the you know silly, basic interweb folk.
00:22:13
Speaker
Go get that done. Yeah. I ah picked up something from Blade Show to um go on Donnie D's table.
00:22:25
Speaker
I don't know what that is. It looks like a blurry blob.
00:22:30
Speaker
ah Well, going to tell you what it is. so Thank you, because um it looks like a bottle of some kind. but Yeah, it's a bottle. It's bottle of whiskey. So I'm not really, you know, I drink Crown Royal, but I'm not really like a fancy bourbon whiskey drinker. So I go into BevMo knowing I want to spend, you know, don't want to look like a doofus, so I don't want a $10 bottle or anything ridiculous.
00:22:53
Speaker
So I go in and the like I'm in there looking at like all these whiskeys, no clue what's good. Google what's a good whiskey. better than ah And so they give me a couple of suggestions. And one of them was this woodfo Woodford Reserve Double Oak.
00:23:12
Speaker
Okay. I'm like, okay. So I look, it's supposed to be $49. I look at on the shelf, Woodford Reserve Double Oak, $49. Okay.
00:23:25
Speaker
okay I grab it. I go to the the checkout The guy rings it up and says, that'll be $115. like, what? Well, what? And I'm like, no, it's $49. And he goes, no, no, no. He shows me the bottle and he says, you see this little thing here that says single barrel? Okay. He says, that's a totally different bottle.
00:23:50
Speaker
And he said, you, there must've been misplaced. And I said, okay. And I walk over to the shelf. I grab another one and I bring it over to him. And he goes, no, that's the same one. And then I bring the guy over to the shelf.
00:24:03
Speaker
I point at the shelf where there are eight more of them lined up and it says $49.
00:24:11
Speaker
And the manager comes out and he goes, oh, yeah, they're not supposed to be there. They're supposed to be behind the glass. And and the guy goes, well, what were you looking for? And I'm like, i was looking for the $49 one. Yeah.
00:24:23
Speaker
but yeah So I got this one for $49. So they had to honor it. So getting a pretty snazzy bottle of whiskey to put on Donnie's table.
00:24:34
Speaker
nice i'm I'm looking forward to trying it, actually. So I thought that was funny. So we got to get some tiger tears or something cool so I could fit in.
00:24:47
Speaker
Yeah. Some hot water. You could smell it No, you already freaking liquored me up last year or the year before. Oh yeah, that was, uh, that was the bartender's fault. Not mine.
00:25:02
Speaker
Hey, I asked for that Coke. It was, or Coke, whatever. Trying to mess with Jared's sobriety.
00:25:13
Speaker
But two, just over two weeks, Sonny. Just over two weeks. Yep. I'm looking forward to it. Yeah, me too. Me too. Looking for a nice break. This is going to be a pretty healthy chunk of time off for me.
00:25:29
Speaker
um Yeah, because you're going where? North Carolina or something after? where are you going? Yeah, I'm going North Carolina after. but um So you got that whole week off?
00:25:40
Speaker
The week after they off, yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yep. So I'll be back Tuesday night or Wednesday. I can't remember. But yeah. So I'm s stoked, dude, because work is lame.
00:25:53
Speaker
Yeah. And I don't realize how much... how little time I'd actually take off for myself. It feels like I'm always, cause i'm traveling, you know, every couple months, you know, here and there, um, we're, we're doing things. I mean, we went to Texas and I, it was two days, you know?
00:26:12
Speaker
So it's not like it's a huge chunk of time off. Um, but you know, looking forward to it. Yeah, it should be fun. um And I'm i'm not stressed this year, which is crazy. Like, usually I'm working on sheaths, like, days before the show. Yeah. And um I got have five leather sheaths to make. I've already done two and a half. I'll be done the third one in the first hour tomorrow or something, hour or two hours.
00:26:45
Speaker
So I only got two more to do. And I got two weeks. and i got And I got to sharpen knives. Like, I've never been this far ahead. It makes me want to do another knife, but I don't think I'll.
00:26:59
Speaker
I don't think I will. i got some I want to do some prep work for um Toby um because they're going to be doing folders. So i actually want to heat treat and do those blades so they don't have to do that crap.
00:27:13
Speaker
What are you going treat it in? I'm going to use my even heat kiln.
00:27:18
Speaker
Awesome. Yeah. ah Amazing heat treating kiln. Let me go to the actual family owner and operating since 1948, building the highest quality heat treating

Workshop Updates and Tools

00:27:31
Speaker
ovens available. I have two, a big giant one and one that I use for the regular size knives.
00:27:38
Speaker
ah You can't beat it. Looking forward to seeing Spencer at the show and all the guys at Even Heat. So if you need an oven, go check them out. Absolutely.
00:27:49
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. So I do have a report um that knife that I heat treated. um I must've overcooked the shit out of it and grew the grains to like rice size.
00:28:05
Speaker
Rice is not good for, for steel grain. We're looking for sugar, less than sugar, right? wheat Yeah.
00:28:18
Speaker
Yeah, I took it over to to my buddy's house, Dennis, and we heat treated it and it came in at like 56. You mean tested it? Sorry. Yeah, tested it. Same thing.
00:28:30
Speaker
um So, yeah, I'll be redoing that one. Yeah, you better start with the whole i gotta to yeah go normalize everything. like yeah Yeah.
00:28:40
Speaker
Well, at least you didn't do much to it. And it's a chef knife, so. Yeah, it's not the end of the world. But yeah, like he didn't grind it. You didn't do preheat and grinding or anything like that. I don't know.
00:28:52
Speaker
That'll be easy. Maybe I'll do that, though. I'm going to grind some bevel soft and then go ahead. Yeah. Let's get let's get let's get crazy. Yeah. um Yeah. So that was it. That was a good lesson learned.
00:29:07
Speaker
Yeah. Don't bake your steel for half an hour unless it's stainless. had a couple people reach out to me and tell me, yeah, Dennis, he's lying to you. I said no he said, he said the grain would grow.
00:29:19
Speaker
I defended you. yeah No, it'll definitely grow. i was debating whether I would not have expected to affect the hardness. um But it'll definitely be more brittle. I just didn't think it would affect the hardness.
00:29:36
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, no, no. It's weird thing. At least not to that extent. I mean, maybe a point or two, but yeah, it was crazy. It was off by, it would would would we hit like 50 at one point?
00:29:49
Speaker
Yeah, one of them was 50. yeah and then we got And then one was 58, and then they were pretty solid around like 56. Yeah. Yeah. So like, which kind of makes sense. And now if I think about it, cause like the crystals are huge, the carbides are moving all over the place because of the size of the crystals. So yeah, you're going to get huge variances depending on where, where you're testing.
00:30:13
Speaker
So yeah, it's not good.
00:30:19
Speaker
so It is okay. Yeah. It's, it's salvageable. Yeah. But yes, I'd like to heat treat the blades we're going to use in those folders. And actually in the last course, that axe course, I noticed that the burner in my forge, which has been going well for like going on three years.
00:30:42
Speaker
Yeah, it's like three years. ah yeah You know how like it gets really hot on some of the holes and they turn white? You know what I'm talking about in the, in the burner and the inside, uh, the ones on the D on the far end, like those are all white and then the other ones are not. So I think there's some blockage inside the burner or they're just, it's just decayed, but, uh, half the burner is not running well.
00:31:10
Speaker
So I'm going to. Is this the one that was was doing all the the fancy popping? Yes. And it's doing a lot of popping lately. And that's like the burners. There's something wrong with the burner. So I got to re reset the burner.
00:31:24
Speaker
So just break all the refractory out and like reset it. New straws, all that shit. So I might do that later this week, next week, something like that.
00:31:38
Speaker
Nice. Yeah. But I might be doing that on the weekend when you're here. No. Why? You're not forging anything. You're right.
00:31:49
Speaker
You can do whatever you want.
00:31:52
Speaker
I'd like just in case Toby gets a bug up his ass. It's not a million degrees and he wants to forge, excuse me, forge something. um We would need a a burner that's not going to pop and explode on us.
00:32:11
Speaker
Yeah, I'd like to see him move some steel around. Yeah.
00:32:17
Speaker
But, um yeah, looking forward to a couple weeks. um I got a couple Kydex sheaths to do, actually. But other than that, yeah, I'm done. Just sheaths and sharpening.
00:32:32
Speaker
So I might start the dagger. i have to do a scabbard for the dagger. The dagger's already sold, and it's not going to get... delivered until the Austria knife show in October. uh, but I might start that scabbard.
00:32:48
Speaker
Um, that's going to be a long one. So I don't know. I got a bunch of things I can do in the next couple of weeks that, uh, we'll take up some time. So,
00:32:59
Speaker
Yeah.

00:37:20
Speaker
stuff So Frank, I got to send it to you. I'm pretty sure you've already seen it a bunch, but yeah, apparently somebody made an actual Frank and beans hammer. But if you're in the market for a hammer, go check out two bastards, Smithy and supply. Frank and Nita will take care of you. 00:38:00
Speaker
And yeah, our go-to hammers when we are beating steel, so. why dennis because ain't it grand to have a fat penis in your hand i'm so far can literally uh i i had a great discussion on um my patreon chat discord chat today i don't know why someone brought up the um the topic of only fans and like these knife makers there's a bunch of like female knife makers that are now on only fans
00:38:37
Speaker
Like, i don't know, holding knives or like wearing lingerie, holding knives. And the we were, so we were just chit chatting back and forth. And one of the guys, Steven, Googled, you know, what is, how many creators are on OnlyFans?
00:38:54
Speaker
And I know this stat is not correct, but someone put it up there that 14% of women between the ages of like, what is it, 18 24 have an account.
00:39:07
Speaker
which I don't think is feasible because that's like 1.4 million and there's only 1.4 million people on OnlyFans, like creators, so. But it's pretty funny. And then I think, because people are making millions and millions and everyone's talking about how much they're making. Who's paying for all this?
00:39:27
Speaker
Like, and i and then I thought, ah I have lost faith in our gender if we're spending we males are spending that much money on OnlyFans accounts. It's ridiculous.
00:39:41
Speaker
And then I thought, even Honor Kaglar has an OnlyFans account. But he's not, I don't think the ah the girls are paying him, but we'll see.
00:39:55
Speaker
You're oddly quiet, Jared. Are you on OnlyFans right now? I am actually. I was like, fuck, do you fucking got spyware on my phone? What's going on I was just thinking to myself, don't, don't, don't, what is it?
00:40:09
Speaker
Don't hate the player, hate the game, or don't hate the game, hate the player. No, hey, I don't hate the player, hate the game. Yeah. Go get that money, ladies. There's a bunch of creepy ass dudes ready to. that That's really what we took away from but Guys are just fucking creepy.
00:40:27
Speaker
Yeah. Man. feels There's no shortage of oddness. Yeah. Of of odd things they're buying too. Yeah. Crazy.
00:40:39
Speaker
Man. All right. Well, for that segue, are we ready to do some maker spotlights? ah Sure. Sure. All right. Who do you have? going to make you go first. Well, I had the thing ready a second ago until you started me looking at feet on OnlyFans. Thanks.
00:40:59
Speaker
I got ah Andy Alms Knives on Instagram. that's Andy Alms. No S. What?
00:41:11
Speaker
Knives. yeah Andy Alms Knives. Thank you. Andy, A L M knives. Any other corrections? No.
00:41:21
Speaker
Okay,

Blade Show Preparations

00:41:22
Speaker
cool. Uh, he's got 43,000, uh, 43 and a half thousand followers. Um, and, uh, okay.
00:41:33
Speaker
How many non knife makers, in your life will see somebody, see a maker, and then ask you if you know them. Like, oh, have you seen this person? Or do have you seen that? yeah you know It happens to me all the time, right? And sometimes, it there here's the thing. It's like either ah know them, I support it, good for you, you're checking out good good makers, or it's some like...
00:42:02
Speaker
Paki to Mackie or some just like crazy weird stuff or, and, and I'm just, I'm not into it. And I'm like, you know, so it, it, it more times than not, it's like, yeah. Okay. Yeah. That's cool. You know? Yeah. All right. Thanks for sharing. But, uh, my buddy,
00:42:19
Speaker
at work, uh, sent me this, uh, asked me if I knew this guy. And, um, I was like, Nope. So I begrudgingly looked it up and i was, but it was one of those one where i was like, damn, I don't know this guy. i don't follow him. And I started looking at his stuff, dude. And I'm, I dig this. This is making some really cool stuff. Um, lot of like railroad, almost everything. it almost, not everything, but almost everything is like spike related.
00:42:49
Speaker
Yeah, but like just for me anyways, I was talking with Dennis before this, but like there's a lot of stuff and in and creativity on these things that i've i just I haven't seen, especially on ah on a spike knife. They've got twists in them. um You know, just some K bar looking things, some skinners, some harpoons, some Tanto's, Tanto's, whatever. Um, a lot of texture on them. a lot of textures, like the rock texture kind of thing, the rock texture, the scallops, uh, on the, on the steel. Um,
00:43:19
Speaker
No, I'm calling you out. Yeah, some ridiculously aggressive jimping. just checks all my boxes of stuff that is absolutely fantastic and totally freaking cool. um But in all seriousness, like... ah I like it.
00:43:36
Speaker
It was really cool. Really good take. It was kind of a breath of fresh air for me to see some stuff for it for for me. Anyways, that was just kind of completely out of the box of what I'm um'm normally yeah following or or looking into. So yeah, and then definitely go check this dude out.
00:43:51
Speaker
Yeah, and I'm not saying these are like spike knives, I think, because a lot of these are Damascus, so I think they're either he's like forging the spike end, like the end onto it, or he's forge welding it on or something like that, but there's like there's one that's like a full-size kukri, and like he did not make a full-size kukri out of one spike, but um at least I don't think he did. Maybe he did.
00:44:17
Speaker
but he's got Damascus once. we're Just a really cool work, so... It's cool stuff. Yeah, really cool. I thought this was a really good one. So anyways, I thought I'd share it with you guys. ah i I'm obviously late to the party with 43,000 people and a lot of people I know are already following. But if you're not, go check it out. um Give them a shout. Tell them the boys at Triple T. So what's up?
00:44:41
Speaker
Yeah. um This maker that I'm going to call out, i i thought for sure we had mentioned him before. I mean, I know we have mentioned him, but never as a maker spotlight.
00:44:55
Speaker
And um so this is Free Heel Blades. This is Curtis Holland. um Many of you probably know him. he does amazing work. We were in the same journeyman class. So I've been ahve been a fan for a long time.
00:45:09
Speaker
What's that? We have had to call him out. um's I did a search and we did not. Interesting. Yeah. i thought i'm I'm with you. I thought for sure we had done a maker spotlight on Curtis before.
00:45:25
Speaker
But um I just love the style, especially like the style of his handles. And like you can look when when when I see a knife in my feed, I'll know it's Curtis's knife right away before I look at the maker.
00:45:41
Speaker
Like his style is very, you know, very visible. And I really like it. And I mean, he's helped me out in some things um as well when I did the blackening on the titanium that was from one of Curtis's videos.
00:45:56
Speaker
He just does really awesome work and, um, yeah, check him out. If you don't follow Curtis, uh, at free Hill blades, he's got just shy of 54,000 followers. So he's way up there. Um, so, uh, yeah, go check him out and, um, yeah, tell him the boys that triple T said, hi, I'm sure we'll, uh, we'll see him at blade show as well.
00:46:21
Speaker
Yeah. No, I agree. Awesome maker. Really cool stuff. um dad dad that's That's really shocking to me. Yeah, ive I've been seeing, I know he's been doing a bunch of like prototypes on a new model. So that's what I've been seeing a lot of in his in in my feed.
00:46:39
Speaker
That one with the the black the white and the black on the second row of, second and third row of his profile there. I've been seeing his progress on that one.
00:46:53
Speaker
It's pretty cool. I thought I saw him doing some of the constructional stuff too on grinding, but maybe I'm tripping. Yeah. Oh, maybe that's, no, that is one of them. Yeah. yeah I don't know. He's been working on some new models that I really dig.
00:47:09
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. That's a good one. Yeah. Long overdue apparently. Yeah. No kidding. So, all right. So we got to figure out what we're going to do this weekend, my friend. Yeah, I got plenty stuff to do. I have, um, I have one, two, two knives, um, that are really at the finish line that I'm kind of bummed out on the the etching process that i think I'll probably come over and work with you.
00:47:46
Speaker
Um, Are these ones you've etched before? Yeah. there' a two I've failed on them a couple times, but it just hasn't come out right. So maybe I'll i'll do it with some adult supervision.
00:47:59
Speaker
ah Go to the the etching extraordinaire. All right. We'll try some different processes. i was going to say, we i i don't know who we're going call, but no. Asshole. Yeah, I know.
00:48:15
Speaker
um Yeah. So, yeah, but there's that. and Batplag. Yeah. Speaking of Batplag, um... I'm, I have used the pens that I won all, all week.
00:48:30
Speaker
There, there, there's one that's actually at my desk right now, dude, just absolutely fantastic. I've, I've thought that probably one of the coolest things and most usable things that I've, I've won. Um, like unexpectedly too. Like, uh, I, I think that really, really cool stuff.
00:48:50
Speaker
Cool. Um, What hell was I going to say? I was going to transition to something. I'm sure it was riveting. Yeah. Well, when you're thinking of that. Yo, go ahead. Go ahead. I said, when you're thinking of that, will mention the drop point.
00:49:08
Speaker
And, uh, guys are still selling knives before you get the blade show. So get them up there on the drop point comes out every Thursday. You got a couple of Thursdays before the show. If you want to get some knives sold, cause, uh, Hey, better to have a, what do they say? ah Better to have a bird in the hand than two in the bush or something like that. So get your knife sold even before you get to the show. Two hands in the bush? I but yeah
00:49:39
Speaker
haven't heard it that way. Get them up on the Drop Point. It's free. Go to thedroppoint.com. This is from the Minds of the Skiff Workshop. Makers of the finest bearings, which I use in all my folders.
00:49:51
Speaker
So go check them out. Nice. Um, I've tried really hard to sit in front of this microphone today. Cause I, last week, um, I, we were going on and i think it was Noah hit me back and said, damn, he did you, you,
00:50:10
Speaker
I said something funny and he's like, but I almost missed it. Cause you're like 50 feet from the mic. And I'm like, bitch, I am. And so I went back and I actually listened to it cause, and I, and I can hear it. And the Oh, so you mean you don't listen to me when I tell a hundred percent, a hundred percent, you annoy me and make me angry. And Noah suggests that. So I go and actually take a look at it. And I believe his, right. I was nicer than Noah was.
00:50:37
Speaker
you probably were. But yeah, so I've but made a very, very concerted effort to stay right here. So hopefully your eardrums are bleeding maybe in all up on this it's been very consistent i appreciate it hey you're welcome and now i just need to go get a new mic so i can sit back because it's a lot more comfortable to sit back um yeah so i saw an accident um on my way home from the golf course yesterday and it has been a
00:51:12
Speaker
a long time since I've seen like an accident happen real time. ah You drive by them all the time, and but, um, yeah, it was, it's kinda kind of, kind shook me up a little bit. Like, cause like a bad one, like a death.
00:51:32
Speaker
No, it wasn't, no, it wasn't, it wasn't bad, but, uh, I mean, it was bad enough. Um, but like I was at a red light and So here in town in Brentwood around this time of year, Memorial Day weekend is is one of the most frustrating weekends for us Brentwoodians, because we have a lot of agricultural.
00:51:58
Speaker
They have a lot of agriculture, a lot of farm, and and and and and a lot of produce that comes out of here. And this time of year is cherry season. So these farmers, they do this really cool thing where they have all these cherry fields. And instead of like hiring people to go pick the cherries, they they call it you pick. So you just go out there and grab all the cherries you can. Invite all the dumb tourists over. Bro, it go it's been it's been about a week and a half now, two weeks that they've started it and But we get just people that come from out out of town and they just drive on these back roads. Yeah.
00:52:34
Speaker
And they're just like oblivious to to like regular traffic laws. So they they're like trying to find an entrance into this, you know, cherry picking place. And they're obviously not paying attention to anything. And then they just like swerve, you know, just cut right across. So they'll either cut you off like you're on the head coming or you'll be behind them and then they'll just slam on the brakes. So we were I was at an intersection. It's pretty, pretty big.
00:52:57
Speaker
in intersection um marsh creek and byron highway and uh this guy just comes i'm at a red light and ah my light turns green and this dude just comes moseying across you know right in front of us through a red light and i'm like okay he's gonna stop he's gonna stop nope nope he's not gonna stop so started laying on the horn bee bee beep beep beep and then i fucking like and and I was in the right-hand lane and ah in a car come from the left side where there was nobody there. And he just probably doing, I don't know, 35, 40 miles an hour through, i you know, which which was a green line and just fucking nailed him.
00:53:38
Speaker
And, um and that guy unfortunately took the brunt of it. And um so I saw it happen. like, God dang. um So I pulled over to the side cause want to make sure they were all right.
00:53:50
Speaker
He gets out and his arms all bloody and broke up. I thought he busted his his elbow and arm because it looked like he got his his left arm pinched between. i thought you going to tell me it was crushed cherries.
00:54:02
Speaker
No, no, no. It was, it was, it was a lot of blood. Um, so anyways, I hung around, um, to, to make sure everybody, well, try to see if everybody was right. Everybody was quasi okay. Um, stuck around and gave a, uh, um, a statement and all that, which I've never done.
00:54:21
Speaker
was always been like, Oh, that looks horrible. Moving on. I've only done it in accidents that I've been in, but never, uh, somebody else's. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. it It just, it felt like after I got out and made sure everybody was okay and the guy was like, you know, they were kind of going back and forth at each other. And I was like, the dude whose fault it was, was so oblivious and and ridiculous about trying to defend himself that I was like, I can't just let him try to like lie through this. so Oh, really? What do you mean? He was being a dick here?
00:55:00
Speaker
Yeah. Like, I pull over, I walk past them, I go up to their car, there was him and two two ladies in the car, and I go, are you guys alright? And he goes, yeah, that was green, our light was green. our light i was like, okay, whatever, and I go over there to see the people that are bleeding, and um he's like, yeah, no, you you were there, right? You saw the right my light was green, and I was like, that light was fucking red. you you were in the middle of you ran a red light and he's like no no no no you you saw and i was like okay so anyways i had to had to do that but i think really what's happened was that um with jared just getting his license the last couple months um like how how quick how easy how stupid how it's it doesn't even have to be your fault you know like yeah it's it's dangerous out there so just kind of been reinforcing my whole zen campaign on the road of you know
00:55:51
Speaker
not, not driving like a complete asshole and being so important and being in a hurry that, you know, you're going to hurt somebody. and Really? so Wow. It looks, looks like I'm driving to a SFO for,
00:56:04
Speaker
yeah for the flight. I have driven, i have driven a lot. I, I, I drive. yeah. Miles, many miles but I've been behind the wheel. um So not ever pretty confident in that regard, but you get to see a lot of stuff too. So there's just a lot of dumb asses out there.
00:56:27
Speaker
But I just worry about my son. Just want to make sure he's, he's all right. Cause all the young drivers now it's been a couple of months and now he's got that stupid confidence, you know, yes nothing's going to happen. And so I don't know. Just guys as soon as they think they're there, uh,
00:56:44
Speaker
impervious to danger that's when it's going to happen yeah and I've been very very very lucky all the kids have made it through so I remember doing this with the daughter my daughters too so um yeah and then he's now he's going and then he tells me he's gonna he's going he's got his prom this weekend and he tells me he's going to drive to his prom and I'm like well where's the prom and he's like oh it's in it's in Oakland and I'm like dude it's not just in Oakland it's in like one of the worst parts of Oakland I don't know if there's a good part of Oakland, right? Well, there's bad parts.
00:57:17
Speaker
I know, but I'm saying like, yeah it is bad place. yeah know it It is. And it's, it's probably, it's not like it's like, I grew up here. I'm not, it's, it's, it's a sketchy neighborhood, but it is even sketchiness goes up at night and it goes up double time on Saturday night and the weekend when everybody's out partying and doing all that stuff. And I'm like, bro, there's not a chance in hell. I'm letting you drive to the hood on saturday night like i'll take you i'll we'll figure something out i'll drive you there and pick you up or something yeah uber for fuck's sake i mean yeah something yeah that's crazy well speaking of vehicles do you want to hear some uh some more entertaining jet ski uh so i think i think our listeners are just dying to hear about your

No, no. So this is, so last year had the engine replaced, was out for the whole season, got it back beginning of this year, took it out.
00:58:15
Speaker
It died within the first mile, took it back to them. They said, oh, something, something, blah, blah, going to fix it, going to test it. They test it.
00:58:27
Speaker
I spent more money on it. Take it out last Monday. i finally get it back. It dies on me in the first mile again. wow. Yeah.
00:58:38
Speaker
And then i and i and I go to them. and I'm like. i I kind of figured, like, I think you guys have, you know, you are treating the symptom and not the problem. If the engine keeps dying, perhaps it's something to do with the oil delivery.
00:58:55
Speaker
And they're like, okay, yeah, we're going to. So they look at the oil pump and they think now the oil pump is failing because there's air in the line. I'm like, so another, this has happened three times and now you you figure out to check the oil pump?
00:59:11
Speaker
So, yeah, it's been a comedy of errors with this thing. and I'm hoping to get it back before um before Blade Show, but we'll see. All right. Speaking of Blade Show, yeah, speaking of that that, I don't want you to go out.
00:59:31
Speaker
You don't want me to? I'm kidding. You're right, because I'm going to take Toby and Leland out. Oh, nice. Not you.
00:59:44
Speaker
I don't want to go. yes sha honor If I'm going go jet skiing, I want to get on a jet ski that actually moves. Right. yeah I can go squirming all kinds of places. Right. But, um, no, so I got an idea and, um,
00:59:58
Speaker
as we we're wrapping up here i think over the next couple weeks we have about two weeks here um i wanted to do this for blade show but um for texas but i think what i want to do is either i'm going to reach out to you or you guys are going to reach out to to me if you you're going to blade show you're exhibiting um the week of blade show while we're gone we probably won't have a show but what i'd like to do is kind of get a handful of people in and just do like, i don't know, like a 20 minute segments and maybe string together bunch of makers that are showing up and, uh, you know, let them talk to, maybe we do it the week before. I don't fucking know, whatever, but, um, we don't have to do them all the same time. I think we should shoot to do a couple this weekend.
01:00:42
Speaker
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. like we can do We'll have just some recordings and then I'll just stick you with the the editing and put them all together. you don't want to have like this. yeah i know and Not that it's not a good idea, but um i've the 15 people on one podcast thing turns into mayhem, right? So I don't want to do that.
01:01:04
Speaker
but yeah, maybe just have a couple of you guys jump on interview, talk chat, and then either the week before or while we're there, we'll, we'll drop that, that episode. So if you're interested, hit me up, hit Dennis up.
01:01:24
Speaker
um And I'll probably reach it out to a couple of you guys too, and see if we can't coordinate and get a, get a couple of you guys on and get you on the show. Yeah.
01:01:36
Speaker
Let's do it. All right. All right. Is that a show? That's a show. I got to go to SoCal this week. I leave Wednesday, come back Friday. Oh, it's going hot as fuck.
01:01:49
Speaker

01:01:54
Speaker
Whatever. Yeah, we don't need you looking at the weather.
01:01:59
