Garrett's Strange Encounters and Reflections on Mortality

00:00:35
Speaker
Hey, everybody, welcome to another episode of Predeterminate Pro Wrestling Hangout. I'm your host, Garrett Callender, and joined by Chris Meigs. I'm here. Unlike certain people who appeared on AEW tonight, I've never been gone. I've never been away. I'm not popping up. I have no guitar. I probably won't cry tonight.
00:01:03
Speaker
I am definitely not Rick Ross. I don't know what else to say about Rick Ross. I do have something to say about Rick Ross. This doesn't have anything to do with wrestling.
00:01:18
Speaker
I was in St. Louis at a Target once with my family and I said, I'm going to go to the bathroom real quick. I opened the bathroom door and there was a naked dead man on the floor with two paramedics hunched over him. And why he was naked never found out. But as I opened the door,
00:01:41
Speaker
and see what I see, which is a deceased penis, a man looks over his shoulder at me and just shakes his head no. There were no words exchanged, just shakes his head no, I let the door close. And then I look back at my family and say, I'm gonna walk next door to Home Depot.
00:02:00
Speaker
And as I walk next door to Home Depot, I'm at the urinal thinking about what I just witnessed and really thinking about my own mortality. And then a man who looks like Rick Ross stood at the urinal next to me and my phone started ringing. I never have my ringer on, but this day I did. And my ringtone was hustling by Rick Ross.
00:02:29
Speaker
And as it plays, me and the man who looks like Rick Ross next to me turn and look at each other and just share a hearty laugh at the urinals, never exchange words.

Humorous Banter and Parenting Quirks

00:02:39
Speaker
And that was a great day. Well, so this is your second favorite Rick Ross moments night then.
00:02:51
Speaker
I mean, other favorite Rick Ross moment is a hustling being heavily used in the Cat Williams special. It's pimpin' pimpin'. One of the greatest standup specials of all time. I stand by that. I stand by that. Great special. You were, I feel like in the Rick, in the story that you were telling before, you're like, you're like Tony Schavati in the segment tonight, but just getting offered this champion. You're like.
00:03:17
Speaker
I guess I'm here. You're the Tony Schiavone of the story. Yeah, I would be if I were to be an AEW character, I feel like I'd be Schiavone. I just need to get that earring. And does he still know he saw the mullet, right? Kind of. Yeah.
00:03:38
Speaker
Sorry to just bust in with that. I don't, I mean, I don't know why so many personal stories today in a Cat Williams talk right up top. Well, look, we had to, we have to, this is where, this is where wrestling's at right now is us telling stories about, about Cat Williams and Ross. And Beth, dead bathroom man. How did he get naked, Chris? Why were all of his clothes off?
00:04:06
Speaker
Maybe he felt the need to shed them while like becoming deceased like his body needed to shed and it just It felt like that was the way he was gonna save himself, but that was wrong I mean that yeah I had a friend who was a real weirdo in high school and like Couldn't take a shit unless he removed every article of clothing he was wearing so like he would drive home from school and
00:04:31
Speaker
to, to go take a shit and come back so that he could take all of his clothes off. That feels like a parenting failure. Like that's one of those things where you're just like, as a parent, you're like, my kid's going to be weird. Every kid's weird. I just don't want them to be weird in that way that basically socially cripples them because they need like, I'm doing my best here. And like, I'm just, you know, hope the hope is that they avoid that.
00:04:56
Speaker
It's true, it's 17, if you're still doing that. Maybe the parents didn't know, but I just remember one time being at his house and watching him walking out of the bathroom, still buttoning up his shirt. And I'm like, what the fuck is happening right now? And he explained, I can't poo with clothes on. What? There's just something, he just was doing that and his parents at some point, they just gave up. They were like,
00:05:26
Speaker
I don't know what we did, but he, we told him to take his clothes off to poop cause he was getting it on him and now he's really just committed to that bit. Like the parents would admit it's a family. They would just, they would be like, yeah, we fuck that one up. We just, you know, we committed too hard to like take your clothes off thing while we were body training and just, we just never got it back. You know, he was the youngest of three. Do you think the whole family does that?
00:05:55
Speaker
or do you think it just fucked up on the youngest? Yeah, I think that's why, I mean, I don't think it, if it's three in a row, that's intentional. Okay,

Wrestling Events with Kids: Challenges and Joys

00:06:08
Speaker
looking at the AEW roster, who is the wrestler most likely to have to take all of his clothing off to make a poo? Darby Allen.
00:06:20
Speaker
I don't know why that's the perfect answer, but it is. If you actually let that vignette go longer where he talks about his uncle dying, that is the next part that Tony Khan had to cut out. And he swore to Darby it was just for time. It wasn't content.
00:06:42
Speaker
Yeah, I think it's something like that. I'm working on that. Again, we got kids, Garrett. We're just trying our best to make sure they do normal. I had to run at the HOG show this weekend. I took my daughter too. I did have to run into...
00:07:00
Speaker
Like it's hard when you're a dad with your daughter in places that don't have family restrooms, because you've got to make choices. And I actually don't remember which one I went into. I just know we went straight into a stall and we're like, okay, as soon as you're done, we're right. I like I don't actually don't know which bathroom we used. I mean, that's a move. Like it sounds like it was an emergency.
00:07:23
Speaker
Look, if you've got a four-year-old and they need to go to the bathroom, it is an emergency. They have told you, they're not telling you casually, like, oh, I could go to the bathroom at some point. It's like, no, I need to go now. You know what? I think I wouldn't be uncomfortable at a wrestling show asking a female fan to escort my child into the bathroom. I feel like, on the most part, female wrestling fans tend to be more on the
00:07:53
Speaker
the normal human side. That's fair. I think, yeah, as she gets older, if we continue going to wrestling shows together, we'll be able to, and where there's a little bit of time, and it's not quite as much of a rush with the bathroom. Maybe that'll help you have to do it. I just have to find a female wrestling fan, say, ma'am.
00:08:14
Speaker
Like 25, ma'am, would you mind taking this small child into the restroom with you? And she's like, I am Sawyer Reck and my match is next. Would you mind wiping my child, Otis? Okay, so what match did you miss while you were in the women's restroom? We missed a little bit of Shingo versus Loki.
00:08:43
Speaker
Okay, okay. That was the main event, and she was starting to get tired at that point anyway. So the show started at six o'clock. The show was at, well, the bathrooms were pretty nice, because we were at La Boom, which is a club, for those who haven't been there.
00:09:05
Speaker
I used to at this, we used to go to evolve shows there with a friend of the show, Mike Meltrader, and we would drink, we would just stand at the bar and drink as much beer as we could in the two and a half hour length of the show. And this time I drank not a drop.
00:09:24
Speaker
be very on target and aware while- How life has changed. Now you're in the women's restroom with a child instead of drunk by the bar, watching, I don't know, Jake Atlas fight somebody. Sitting on, so the interesting thing. So I, we were on the floor, right? And then there was general admission, which was good.
00:09:52
Speaker
The first, uh, first half of the show, we were, we were sitting in like the fourth row and she was kind of, it was hard to see because people right in front of us. And one of the things that we figured out during the, uh, because this is a club during the intermission first, I was annoyed. There was intermission.
00:10:09
Speaker
I was like, we got to get out of here. This is going to be way too long. We're never going to get to the real matches. But during the intermission, I found out there was like a comfy couch at like the back of the floor where she could see much better. It was very comfortable. The chairs were not plastic. I love that. I was great. I really, really love that. Why? She went on a couch.
00:10:28
Speaker
Wait, so, okay, I've been to Laboom. I was there once. And I went to two shows in a row there that day. I think it was an Evolve show and then a women's show before. I don't remember what promotion. Yeah, I can't remember the name either. You said a women's show. I think it might've been Shimmer even.
00:10:47
Speaker
It's impossible. Yeah. Yeah, who knows. Great time, but it was honestly a fine venue. I was just curious as to what normally happens there. Is it just a nightclub? Like people dancing to Tiesto? It's a nightclub. Or what's happening? Yeah, exactly. Okay.
00:11:08
Speaker
They're dancing out there. And at a certain time, they kicked the wrestling fans out. I think they were gonna have a Halloween party that night because it was decorated with like lucha skull type things and various. So I think they were having like a Halloween day of the dead themed party.
00:11:27
Speaker
I watched the show because I'm now a Fight Plus member, approximately three minutes after that announcement was made, I was like, here's my $50, give me a year of this. But yeah, very pleasantly, the House of Glory show was on there, so I put that on. And I assumed those decorations were for the wrestling, incorrect? Not that I'm aware of. I guess we could have put them up there for the wrestling.
00:11:55
Speaker
I thought they were getting festive. It looked like, honestly, the room looked like it was set up really well. Even better than I remember Evolve being set up. They moved the ring to the middle a little bit more. Evolve was set up. The ring was like in the back corner kind of weird. I don't know why Evolve did that because this seemed to make way more sense and it didn't seem like there was any particular reason why you wouldn't do it like this.
00:12:20
Speaker
I hope your daughter knows how proud I am of her for making it to the end of that show. Cause I know sometimes wrestling shows, even for a fan can be a little bit of a gauntlet. You know, like you're really being put through it to get to the end of that thing. It's true because I mean, we got there at like five 40, five 30, five 45. Um,

Indie Wrestling: Matches, Personas, and Fan Moments

00:12:42
Speaker
and, uh,
00:12:43
Speaker
Well, first thing, ELP was doing meet and greets just as we got in the door and they two sweeted each other. That was fun. I love that. The picture was adorable. Honestly, all the pictures you sent me from this event, I wanted to set them as my phone background.
00:13:03
Speaker
Yeah. It's ELP doing his like, his like face, like an intro thing and me just kind of like doing a, doing something and Maddie, uh, like just looking at the camera hilarious group of people.
00:13:17
Speaker
Um, but then they, so we sat again, we sat down for the show opposite of big time wrestling. They've got music on and they've got music on real loud. Cause it's a club. So I assume they're just whatever norm, whatever normal volume on the system they're playing at. It's it's blasting loud. This is the only volume it has. This is one, this is the bottom. Like we can turn it up, but we can't turn it down past this.
00:13:46
Speaker
Um, so I was like, and she took a little while to get into the show. She liked, um, the main event was on the first half of the show. Um, wrestling a team, the brick city boys from Newark. Um, that's brick city, um, FYI, for those who are not from.
00:14:04
Speaker
the New York, New Jersey area. You lost me with the main event thing, but then I realized, you mean, there's a tag team called the main event? The tag team, yes, with the lion. Well, as I said, I was actually most excited that she really, unsurprisingly, the child really liked the lion tamer and the lion and the circus themed act that does flips.
00:14:29
Speaker
Um, which is great because, uh, they're at that point right now. I feel like this always happens as like team, as like wrestlers are breaking out in an area. They're at the point now where they're just on every indie show in New York.
00:14:42
Speaker
Like, I don't think you're like, you're legally not allowed to have an indie show without them for the next six months. I'm pretty sure. And then again, they're going to move up the chain and go start doing national things. And they won't be around as much, but every, every, that's one of the stages for people. And so anyway, should we go to
00:15:00
Speaker
Yes, yes, but they're gonna break out above that, right? They're gonna be, Mittens kinda has too though, right? Because Mittens travels now. Mittens isn't always at the shows in New York. I'm not sure if he was at the House of Glory show actually. He was at the New Japan shows. If you had sent me a photo of your daughter with Mittens, I would have pissed myself.
00:15:22
Speaker
That'll eventually happen. And maybe called Child Protective Services. You get her away from me. It's a mitten's meet and greet. It's only five bucks.
00:15:39
Speaker
Somebody gives really good hugs. Sorry, continue. But that was actually, that was actually the second good part. So about the intermission, right? Again, I'm kind of pissed that there's intermission because it's taken her a little bit of time to get into it. I'm worried she's going to like, you know, be done with this pretty early. It's already seven o'clock by the time they go to intermission. But me and events doing a meet and greet during the intermission, I say, Maddie, do you want to meet the wrestlers? And she's like, yes, I definitely want to meet the lion and the guy with the top hat.
00:16:08
Speaker
And they were very, very nice to her. They were fun. We bought a sticker, they took a picture. But I feel like that got her further into it, right? Meeting the wrestlers kind of got her more excited. The characters are real now. They're real to her, right? Yes, she's seen them wrestle. She just met Cinderella at Disney. Exactly, but better because they can do flips. And Cinderella can't do flips.
00:16:35
Speaker
Right, come on. With the proper training, I'm sure Cinderella is very agile. I mean, she does not have the right shoes for it. I mean, I guess she could do a barefoot wear. She could do like a speedball. She could be like a barefoot gimmick, you know. We immediately see her break her feet. Like a first match. It's like, that's why you don't go barefoot, Cinderella. You're not Matt Riddle. She goes in and kicks some slides into the crowd.
00:17:04
Speaker
No, actually, no, no, Cinderella could do death match stuff. Cause she's got glass slippers, right? She shatters it and fills their opponent's mouth with it. She breaks that. She breaks the slipper over the head, rakes the forehead with the shard and yeah, fills the mouth and does the super kick. Nick Gage is like Cinderella. Cinderella is tough. Cinderella is hardcore.
00:17:30
Speaker
and she'll fuck you up with a barbed wire covered pumpkin. So yeah, Cinderella, I'm sorry, I didn't expect. Again, Cinderella doesn't do flips. She still doesn't do flips, but she goes hard.
00:17:45
Speaker
But yeah, I think that kind of like, again, made it real. The people she saw in the ring were real people. It was actually, they later on the show, they were in the crowd kind of watching a little bit of the show and she was like, dad, can we go talk to them? And I was like, sure. And Midas and her played with her new pet dog, like little dog toy that we bought on the way. Because here's tip, parent tip. If you want your kid to be good for a while, just buy a small toy at the start of the trip.
00:18:15
Speaker
Noted, noted. Gets him in a good mood. But yeah, so the second half of the show, first of all, so ELP wrestles Charles Mason. Charles Mason's perfect because you get to really explain what a bad guy is. Why did he do that, dad? He's bad, he's bad, he's bad. Why is he bad? Well, bad parenting, he has to shit with his clothes off.
00:18:46
Speaker
And he's got a lot of clothes. So if he's taking off all those clothes to shit, he's got to undo the tie and the vest. It's, it's difficult. It's like, oh my God, his fucking name just blanked from my head. New Japan. It's a fucking Naito entrance for him every time he takes a shit.
00:19:12
Speaker
Slowly removing his cuff links as he... Sorry. He's getting angry. We don't have to apologize for that. He's getting angry. He's getting angry while he's doing that. I like Charles Mason. He's a guy that I'm... I don't know. I really grew fond of him from JCW, and he had some good stuff with that cage match a few months back, and I don't know. I'm excited to see where he goes. He seems like a guy who's gonna pop up more and more over the years. He's getting there.
00:19:41
Speaker
And they actually, it's because I was trying to figure out how they were going to get out of this match because it was Mason has a title, the crown jewel title, which is the secondary single title in HOG.
00:19:51
Speaker
And he's wrestling Fantasmo, and I'm like, there's no way Fantasmo can job to Charles Mason, right? There's no way that's okay. And very simple answer, when he was in trouble, Mason just punched the referee and got DQ'd, which is like kind of a perfect gimmick for that guy, right? That he would be the guy who could wrestle. He gets to wrestle the top guy, but he's gonna lose by DQ and keep the belt. It works, I think, for him. Yeah, that makes sense.
00:20:20
Speaker
Um, just, just curious with, uh, HOG, how big of a promotion is this? Is this like, uh, I mean, is this just kind of a local promotion or is this a promotion that does pretty well outside of

Surprising AEW and GCW Developments

00:20:35
Speaker
New York? No, I don't, they don't run shows outside of New York. They only run shows in the city really just in, and they ran the last show before this, uh, at terminal five in Manhattan. But for the most part, they're just running a show in Queens.
00:20:50
Speaker
once every, you know, six weeks or so. Okay. I guess why I ask that, not to skip ahead, but I did, I watched the final two matches of this show and the Briscoes and Ozzy open like did a good job. And it just made me wonder like, is a wrestler on the Indies, when do you phone it in?
00:21:19
Speaker
Like what promotions, is it okay to just like, I'm not gonna go so hard tonight? That's a great question. I mean, one of them for sure is MLW. We're all aware of that.
00:21:31
Speaker
If you've watched any MLW and you've watched wrestlers outside of MLW, and then you watch the matches in MLW, they're somehow never as good as outside. So clearly somehow, either that or there's weird chemists, I don't know, weird like things. When you enter an MLW show, everyone just gets 10% worse. I don't know. Something about entering the curse threshold of the door.
00:21:54
Speaker
Um, yeah, I don't know. I do think if, if the show's not on TV, which is probably less and less now, but I imagine if the show's not being, you know, streamed, you probably make a slightly different choice about what you're doing that evening. Um, I think that's gotta be it for the guys at this point, just cause so, but it's gotta be hard to find that cause so much is streamed, right? So much is somewhere, um, that it's, it's gotta be hard to pick and choose your evenings in terms of how hard you're going to go.
00:22:23
Speaker
You know, well, and I wonder how much that changes now because I guess a lot of promotions are going to be jumping ship from IW TV and headed to fight. Uh, glory pro out of St. Louis, black label pro, I guess has headed to fight plus, um, honestly, like for five bucks, like we're about to get like a ton of pretty good. I mean, the fact that I was able to watch this HOG show same weekend that you went to it was.
00:22:53
Speaker
Yeah, pretty great. Pretty great. Yeah, no, and I'm, I'm excited. There's a lot, again, they got a lot of stuff on there. Um, I'm curious. I feel like they do need to improve the, uh, the search engine a little bit to find stuff.
00:23:07
Speaker
I don't know if it just updated, but I know on Apple TV, I was able to search better on fight. I think before there was no search option. And now there's actually a place where I was able to type in H-O-G and the show just immediately popped up. I will note that on the Amazon Fire app, there is a tab for Game Changer. Maybe they'll add tabs for some of the other big promotions.
00:23:33
Speaker
Um, but that was nice. So I could literally just pull up like here are the game changer wrestling shows. I like went to sleep last night with the LA show from several years ago, the David Arquette show on in the background. Yeah, you can see a friend of the show. John, he is right next to all that action. He's sitting on that stage that's parallel with the ring, just getting glass on him and looking horrified.
00:23:58
Speaker
I think he actually, on this show, we have audio of him that he recorded on his phone in the parking lot. Like, holy fuck, just giving us like a news report from them. I think they just murdered David Arquette. Wasn't the main event of that, not the main event, that was the main event, but like another highlight of that one was I think Brody King versus Bob Holly. Yes.
00:24:24
Speaker
Honestly, that was a good, looking through, I was scrolling through it, all the GCW shows I now have access to, and I realized that I paid full price for 95% of them. So I'm not gaining a ton of new material out of this, but I'm happy to not spend $14 a show now. The future, the future, right? You're not Matt. You're not like the guy who's like, I paid off my student loans. You're like,
00:24:52
Speaker
You're like, it's okay. Everyone else gets access to it now too. I'm just happy that, cause there are a lot of these like side shows where they'll do like a weekend in Ohio. And like, I look and I'm like, there's nothing on here that I want to spend 15 bucks on, but yeah, I want to watch Jonathan Gresham versus Blake Christian or something. You know, like there's a show a couple of weeks ago where there's a Gresham against Speedball match that I'm going to go watch. Cause I'm like, I didn't want to pay 14 bucks for the whole show, but I'm pretty interested in that match.
00:25:22
Speaker
Perfect. What kind of deal do you think they did for this that this ended up being worth it? I was saying it's got to be the equivalent, the sort of like indie equivalent of peacock paying WWE.
00:25:37
Speaker
And I don't know what that translates to in terms of real dollars, but it's essentially the equivalent of that. They're basically taking something that was selling for real money and saying, no, no, no, no. We think we can convert so many subscriptions that instead of the people who are paying for GCW, paying, you know, 15 or 30 dollars a month, we'll just take five. I love it. Works for us. We were.
00:26:04
Speaker
I mean, from what we talked about last time, they're literally charging me half of what I said I was willing to pay. Quarter! So, 50 bucks for the year. And if you scroll through and look at some of the other crazy shit, like, this app is lawless, it seems. Fight TV has Kung Fu movies.
00:26:27
Speaker
karate competitions, Mexican baseball, men and women's rugby from around the globe. You know, though, I was on my Sling app today to watch the
00:26:39
Speaker
to watch dynamite and I noticed at the bottom, they wanted to charge like a hundred bucks for a rugby package. I get it, I get it free on fight plus now. We're, we're rugby boys. And you know what? Maybe those will be special episodes for the Patreon subscribers. We need a Patreon to talk about rugby. Yeah. There was something that popped up.
00:27:03
Speaker
that even looking at the photo and reading the description, I have no idea what it is. So there's some real mystery things on this Fight Plus. Are people, is there gonna be violence? Is there gonna be phishing? I don't know. It could be anything. But you know what it has that IWTV still doesn't?

New Japan Shows and Mystery Cards

00:27:20
Speaker
A fast forward button that actually works. You do fast forward things on Fight Plus and that's why I'm excited.
00:27:28
Speaker
Very exciting. Yeah, it's pretty wonderful. Yeah, I mean, honestly, this probably the best news in wrestling this week. I agree. I agree. As far as my wallet's concerned. For sure. There's lots of other things happen this week that are good, but that's certainly the most valuable one to you directly.
00:27:52
Speaker
Sorry, back to House of Glory, because there are still good matches worth talking about. So the match I was most excited about was Briscoe's Aussie Open, just because indie Briscoe's has been one of my favorite things to happen this year. They've just been so good. And Aussie Open is great. And so I was really excited. This match started around 8 o'clock. So now we're getting to bedtime, basically. And a little nervous. I'm like, are we going to get through this?
00:28:20
Speaker
And yes, we did, and she loved it. She was very into, she was like, this is great. I was explaining that two of them are brothers, and this was kind of confusing to her, because she was like, which of them are brothers? The dirty boys, they just smell like chickens. Because no, well, then she was like, I like the brothers. I'm like, oh, you like the, and it's like, no, no, no, I like the guys with the shiny tights, with the circles on them. I'm like, oh, no, you like the Knott brothers. Like, they're brothers. I'm like, this is an argument I'm not gonna have right now.
00:28:51
Speaker
Was she was she chanting? Was she cheering things? Was she yelling? There wasn't really yelling. There was there was excitement and a very strong interest.
00:29:01
Speaker
Did that make you feel really warm and fuzzy inside, like watching her enjoy this? Yes. Honestly, as you're talking about this, I feel like we're in kind of a weird place with our wrestling fandom. I feel like in terms of big emotional moments over the last year or so, post Hangman winning the title, I feel like I haven't really had many. I guess Hangman Danielson felt like a pretty big deal, and I was pretty happy to see ZSJ win the New Japan Cup again. That was good.
00:29:31
Speaker
But like retrospectively, like I had a lot of fun at wrestling shows this year, but in terms of emotional moments, watching my little one go like, like get really into it. And then afterwards be like, can we go meet the tall Australian men? I was like, yes, we can. Yes, we absolutely can. Yeah. Cause I was, I really was very much feeling like this is like.
00:29:54
Speaker
the most emotional I felt about wrestling in a long time, because she was very excited and into it. It was fun. And I'm also, I mean, you know, both of us, Garrett, we're like, we like doing stuff. So my general favorite moments as a parent have been the things where we get to like do something really fun together that she, we kind of both share, like taking her to concerts where she's been excited has been a lot of fun. And this was basically sort of on that level in terms of like, okay, like, yeah.
00:30:24
Speaker
you get to go outside and do something and you're not seeing a big live you know you're
00:30:30
Speaker
Yeah, like you're actually getting to see her enjoy a thing that you deeply love. Yeah. And look, someday I hope she introduces me to stuff that I love as well. And I believe that will happen eventually. But she's for her. I mean, you know, her friends are just telling her to watch again. Yeah. Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol. So I mean, it's not really not yet. We haven't gotten there yet. Many bad cities. Gary, I wasn't being a queen. The city's fine. The city. It's, you know,
00:30:59
Speaker
That's not what Fox News says. They don't- Or Lee Zeldin, sweet lord. I know you went trick or treating. How was the fentanyl?
00:31:10
Speaker
Tremendous, Garrett. High as fuck right now, honestly. That was, I will say, one, just as a brief aside, I watched a little bit of pro wrestling TV, and again, we talked about last week, they have ads on there. And somehow, I guess, knew I was in New York. It started serving me ads for the Republican gubernatorial candidate.
00:31:30
Speaker
And they made me, I knew I was obviously going to vote. I was not going to vote for the Republican, but they made me extra motivated to vote because these ads were terrifying. Like everyone they showed me, I was like, this guy's like, we're going to keep, we're going to keep the people off the streets. We're going to like, we're gonna.
00:31:45
Speaker
We're against anyone who says defund the police. We're against them. And we're like, whoa. And there's like there was like one ad where there's that's like a rally and there's all these old white people who are like, yeah. And I'm like, oh, I literally walked downstairs. I was like, Cindy, we've got to go vote so hard. I don't know how can we vote from I don't know what we got to do. We definitely have to vote. I really have to vote against this guy. We have to vote in a way that's going to piss the oath keepers off because we can't let this work.
00:32:18
Speaker
But yeah, and again, a part of it was also, again, credit to all the, to the main event and to ELP for me, especially Aussie open sees, you know, my little four year old and Kyle, we got, it was like, Oh, we should take a picture or whatever. And, uh, Kyle Fletcher is like, Hmm. And he grabbed like a stool. Cause those guys are very, very tall. Right. So, and it's like, Oh, maybe we should, she should sit on it. It's like, Ooh. And like, she stood on it. Right. And she's basically on a stool. He's like, I leveled with Davis Fletcher.
00:32:36
Speaker
We can't let this work.
00:32:47
Speaker
I quickly started snapping pictures because she did not say forward for very long there. That was the best picture. Is she shy? Did she say anything to them?
00:32:59
Speaker
No, she just said, I said, like, oh, tell them you like the match. She's like, yeah, it was good. You know, she is, she's kind of shy around like new people. She's kind of like, she opens up very quickly and she's not really, I wouldn't define her as a shy person, but she's not someone who's like immediately like, hey, how's it going? You know? When her talking to the Briscoes have gone differently, like are those men that she would have been like, ugh.
00:33:26
Speaker
I don't know. I've never done a Briscoe's meet and greet. I don't know what that would look like. They're just, they just don't see them laughing in an elevator. So, you know, they seem better than I would have expected. They're probably nice. And they have, they have a ton of kids. They're probably great around kids. They've got like a dozen combined. Do they really like combined? Maybe it's a little bit less of a Mark has a lot of kit. Mark has like five or six kids or something. And Jay has, I think several, um,
00:33:52
Speaker
Yeah, I bet they'd be shockingly great with kids. They'd be like, all right, who wants to play a game? They'd just change totally. So this is a shock to me, finding out that Jay Briscoe is essentially the Nick Cannon of the wrestling world. No.
00:34:18
Speaker
They're both married, and it's my understanding, all of their children are with the people, people they are married to. Okay, I forget, Nick Cannon's are, he spreads his seat. Right, right. Yes, yes. And that, I don't know, that sounds, the match was really fun.
00:34:35
Speaker
Like, they went, like, that's what I was wondering. Like, for a show like this, how hard are these guys gonna go? And putting it on, it was a fast-paced, really fun match. Like, I couldn't tell you, like, necessarily any specific spots other than the first J-Driller on camera looked so nasty. The way he landed, like, his head was, like, bent sideways, and you could tell he was fine, but the presentation of it was,
00:35:02
Speaker
Honestly, quite beautiful. Like it was a nasty look in January. Oh, yeah. And yeah, those guys. Yeah, they were like 20 plus minutes. And again, just great. I mean, just all over the place and having a big fun match. And no, it was. Yeah. That was one of the top. I mean, I said probably the best brisket match I've seen live this year, actually, as I'm thinking about it. Obviously, we've had all the ones on TV, right? The ROH matches with the FTR.
00:35:32
Speaker
But yeah, it was probably the best one I've gotten in person. It's pretty great. They are a tag team that I feel like I took for granted when we were able to see them live all the time. Yeah. I think we just saw them so much at every single ROH show.
00:35:50
Speaker
I ever went to and for a while like it was very frequent with the are we chose where i would see him here i drive to a land i was driving to chicago so i just anytime they were kind of on a loop of this area just. I don't know it was a lot of briscoes to take it at the time but.
00:36:06
Speaker
I think a lot of their problem, the problem in appreciating the Briscoes during their time in ROH is that I felt like they wrestled the same teams over and over again. Like the first time I saw Briscoe's Young Bucks match, I was like, this is incredible. This is amazing. And the second time I was like, this is really great. And the third time I was like, this is still really enjoyable. And the fourth time I was like,
00:36:25
Speaker
Okay, and then the fifth time I was like, I mean, it's still pretty good, I guess. And the sixth time I was like, again, it's really good, but is there someone else they could wrestle? And then the seventh time, the seventh time was a ladder match, I think. The eighth time was a six man tag, then the ninth time they wrestled each other. That one was really, really great, but still probably not really as good as the first one in my mind.
00:36:50
Speaker
Who, okay, I'm trying to remember. So final battle at Hammerstein, the one that the Young Bucks, like that was their bye-bye ROH show, their final like, and it was a ladder match if I remember correctly. Who all, it was at three teams. It was Young Bucks, Briscoes and... Frankie and Scorpio Sky. Okay, okay. I definitely remember spots out of that match and having a very good time.
00:37:19
Speaker
and having really good seats. I mean, what? I don't know. I remember that. My friend Tom took a picture of me like high fiving Matt Jackson after that match, which is good because I'm not sure I'd remember it otherwise. I'd had a lot to drink. And I also that was just one of those. Sometimes those are wait shows again, you'd have four hours of stuff. And like by the time you got to the main event, it would be kind of hard to like fully process like what did I know that was good.
00:37:47
Speaker
I remember Matt taking a really nasty table bump where the table didn't break or there were two tables and he hit one and it broke but the second one didn't and he bounced off it in a weird way. Was that him or was that Nick? Which is the handsome one?
00:38:04
Speaker
I think it depends on your opinion there, but I feel like Nick always takes the really bad table spots. Cause he's always like, yeah, just throw me off the ladder. I'll land. Okay. And sometimes he does. And sometimes it's like, Oh, you kind of half hit the one table. And that wasn't probably probably pretty painful. I think you're probably right. Then I think I'm getting my young bucks mixed up. Um, but yeah, it was a great, again, I'm hoping they, there are more.
00:38:30
Speaker
HOG shows or outlaw shows, something at six o'clock. Cause again, this is the big thing with kids is that you just don't want to get too past the bedtime. Literally my wife was coming back from something that the show ended and we like sprinted out. Like we're home in like 10 minutes and just straight to bed.
00:38:48
Speaker
She was just like, passed out. Because it's late, you know, a lot of excitement. I mean, anytime anytime you you get to meet two Australians that are that handsome, I mean, that's, you know, she'll remember that for a long time. Remember that. And we've got the picture, the pictorial evidence. I will say the impressive thing is that the next morning,
00:39:08
Speaker
Um, I was like, Maddie, do you want to watch those guys from last night against some other guys that daddy met the week before? And we did legitimately watch Briscoe's not Briscoe's FTR Aussie open together. Um, she, she drifted. But 20, 20 minutes in or so, which is fair. That's a long match.
00:39:27
Speaker
What would you have done? It would be funny because every kid is going for the guy in a mask. If there's a colorful guy in a mask, that's it. But what if, like my kid, what if Ozzy gets old enough and he's just like, does not care about that, but he's like, Timothy Thatcher's wrestling. I like the technical aspect of wrestling.
00:39:51
Speaker
I think you just support it. You support it. Well, I'm told he does have the same Zodiac sign as most serial killers. So I feel like being into. Technical wrestling under the age of 20. It's a red flag law that means you shouldn't have a gun.
00:40:13
Speaker
So you're just like, I don't know if we can let him go to these shows. He's just really, he has to be completely naked to shit and he loves technical wrestling. This is all I'm saying is he's just, he's doing, he's watching nothing but world of sport from the eighties.
00:40:36
Speaker
His favorite wrestlers are guys from the 70s and 80s that look like professional bowlers now. He's apparently pen pals with Fit Finley and William Regal.
00:40:56
Speaker
It's like, normally I wouldn't want him having correspondence with like older gentlemen, but I mean, you know, fit Finlay. They just write him stories about breaking the bones of people. Well, there was this one time in Bremen, Germany and... His only friends are two old foreign men. I don't understand. And I don't know how he met them.
00:41:27
Speaker
But yeah, it was a good experience. As I said, it was, again, the most sort of like connected, again, I fell to a wrestling show in a while. So it was really, hopefully we get to keep doing it. Unfortunately, the next HOG show is at 8 p.m. December, so we're definitely not going to that one. It's got Kenta though, which is interesting. Okay. Wait, was that the one that somebody sent me? Maybe I saw that Kenta is wrestling an indie show somewhere against War Horse. And I don't care. I don't think that's that one.
00:41:57
Speaker
I'll watch that if it's on Fight Plus, though. That's pretty weird. I can't tell you it's Warhorse or something. You're just like, why? How? Why? We we had talked about other big time shows last time and we talked about one that was in North Carolina. I want to say that had Briscoe's versus Rock and Roll Express. Right. Did you see they added the main event of that match? No, I've not noticed that show. The main event is FTR.
00:42:28
Speaker
and Ricky Steamboat against, let's see, who was it? Jay Lethal, Brock Anderson, and a mystery opponent. So you would not- I've added Brock Anderson. Okay, so I think there were two mystery opponents before. Big reveal that one of them's Brock Anderson. It's gonna be a surprise for Ricky Steamboat too, where it's like, surprise bitch, you're wrestling Flair after all. Whether you want to or not, you have to kill me.
00:42:59
Speaker
They're just like, I'm making you do it. I'm making you kill me, Ricky. This is how it ends. It's like him just putting the gun in his hand and holding it there like, pull the trigger. Pull the trigger, asshole. I am turning off. I'm turning off my pacemaker right now, right at right before you chop me.
00:43:20
Speaker
I'm turning it off. There's a guy in the crowd with a button. As you're swinging for the chop, he's turning off the pacemaker. That's how I'm dying. That's unfair. Take your daughter to that. And she's like, why are all these men that look like grandpa fighting? Yeah, we're not going to. You know, again, I try to be very mindful of the wrestling that I show. New Japan's great for that because it's pretty clean and
00:43:47
Speaker
And you're not not going to show her grandpa fights. That's too that's too disturbing. I will say, you know, you know who one of her favorite wrestlers is. And this is really on me giving her this person's book and T-shirt very early on and just sort of putting it out. Cole Cabana.
00:44:07
Speaker
He's back. So, okay, yeah. So was not expecting Colt Cabana. No. Of anyone, we're talking about AEW. We just, for us, AEW just ended like an hour ago.
00:44:22
Speaker
truly was not expecting Hulkamanda. I was like maybe 10 or 15, I don't know, not very far behind, but just a slight behind. And you texted PCO, PCO, PCO. And I was like, oh, it's PCO, cool. And then I like fast forward slightly. I was like, I guess I may as well just get to the, oh, oh, that's not PCO.
00:44:43
Speaker
That's Cole Cabana crying tears of joy at being back in a wrestling ring. Five days after it was leaked to reporters that Chris Jericho called CM Punk a cancer. I don't know why this would have happened. What an incredible coincidence that this detail would have come out almost two months after the fact, right before Chris Jericho wrestled Cole Cabana.
00:45:10
Speaker
that Jericho wanted that match? Or do you think that was Tony Khan being like, you son of a bitch, you made me look like an asshole in that press conference and now I have the guy who's shared the bank account with his mom on TV and you're fired. I think Jericho wanted to tell Punk to fuck off. That was my, was like, we don't need you. I would rather wrestle Colt Cabana than you. I would much rather share a locker room with this man
00:45:39
Speaker
He's more valuable to me. Do you think he still believes that after Colt dumped him to the floor from the top rope? You know, until Colt Cabana goes on an unhinged rant with Tony Khan sitting next to him about secrets of CM Punk's personal life, I don't think that's gonna happen. I think Jericho's good with his choice.
00:46:06
Speaker
Well, I saw a friend of the show, Tag sent me and Derek something today that was showing like Brian Alvarez had said something big was happening tonight. No, we're not sure what it is, but something big is happening. And I don't know if it was that or if it was Double J. Or Cole Carter, I don't know. Cole Carter being Sting, that could have been a big deal.
00:46:34
Speaker
When that honest to God, when he ripped his mask off, I did not know who that was. I had totally forgot. I was like, that guy looks vaguely familiar. And even the announcers, it felt like they took them a second to be like, oh, Cole Carter. Oh, that's who it is. Oh, okay. They had to get fed that through the earpiece. It was, yeah. It was the vengeful dynamite. A lot of shit happened on dynamite.
00:47:00
Speaker
Yeah, they cut away pretty fast from Darby Allen's head, which he was like, his head was in a pool of blood. Yes, it was. Double J, and I mean, didn't the same thing happen to Effie? What the hell is Double J putting in those guitars? Knives. He's such an asshole. Knives. He's like Jude and Kasai. Double J is much like Jude and Kasai. Except less handsome.
00:47:26
Speaker
Yeah, cause I, cause I was a good looking guy. Um, yeah, it felt like a lot of shit happened tonight. Uh, double J came back. Uh, vignettes for obviously the elite, but also, um, the house of black. That's the thing again. Um, and I feel like I'm missing one. Cole Cabana. Just people just popping up at a note. Oh, Shibata fucking Shibata is going to wrestle Orange Cassidy.
00:47:49
Speaker
But so bizarre. It's so bizarre to me that as I was watching the show, I was thinking, because what was this Orange Cassidy's second title defense on having the Atlantic? Yeah, that sounds right. And they were both triple threat matches against like pretty good opponents. Right. So he and his first three title defenses are having like three matches I want to watch.
00:48:13
Speaker
that when I hear that, I'm like, this sounds fun, this is good. Why isn't Ward Blow getting any matches like that for his belt that he's had for months? I guess I'm kind of excited to see him against Hobbs. That should be fun. Yeah, I mean, were we just waiting to do it against another big guy? Because I guess he had a good one against Brian Cage, but... I guess I'm much more excited to see what Orange Cassidy against Shabbatah looks like. You know what? That's how they get you to tune into on a Friday night.
00:48:43
Speaker
Yeah, no, I definitely, it took me days to watch Rampage last week. That will not be the case this time. I'm definitely going to watch me some Rampage to watch it. Orange Cassidy against Shabbatah. Why have they been doing so many live ones? I wonder lately, but I mean, if this is the kind of content they're going to bring me on a Friday night, I've got a baby now. I'll sit inside and watch it. Right. Exactly. Exactly. The elites coming back. I'm feeling trending upwards at AEW, I feel like now, now that we're, um,
00:49:12
Speaker
Insanity is ensuing. Although maybe downward if Double J's gonna show up a lot, I don't know. Yeah, we didn't ask for that. Who told Tony that this is something we needed? Double J, Double J told him that. He met Double J and he was like, Tony Khan, you need me. And he was like, why do I feel compelled to do this? And it's like, he's very convincing.
00:49:37
Speaker
The kids love me. Swear to God. The key demographics you need on this show will tune in to watch Double J. I almost killed Ric Flair. Need I say more? I wrestled Effie earlier this year. Never lost to him. So I got one up on that guy. I was the star of two episodes of Tales from the Territories. That's fun. That's a thing that
00:50:04
Speaker
I watched I watched several episodes over the weekend. Not great. Watch the Andy Kaufman Jerry Lawler one, though, just because it's so I mean, the Andy Kaufman story is so amazing. Yeah. Yeah, I've heard that one's very good. I've heard the other ones are kind of whatever. The one is mostly.
00:50:24
Speaker
obviously untrue, but terrifying Mad Dog Vishan stories. It's like, all right, so Mad Dog, Mad Dog Vishan is, he's ripping the door off a plane, popped up on Quaaludes and- That's what I was gonna say, he's like, he's on angel dust, now he's flying the plane. We get down there, the net. We got him strapped, we got him strapped to a thing like Hannibal Lecter, it's totally normal.
00:50:55
Speaker
He ate his way out of the mask somehow. Adrian Adonis is shitting in a bag and, you know, mad dog just throwing at the plane. He's just throwing at the plane. You know, it's just a, it's just an average night in Des Moines.
00:51:14
Speaker
It's an average night in Des Moines with Mad Dog Vichon. Yeah, just insane, insane things. There's like, there's no way this is true. This is either. There's just no way. This is a fully real story. You could have a whole movie. Do you remember Disney made that tall tale movie with Peko's Bill and Paul Bunyan?
00:51:38
Speaker
And who else was that? I think Wyatt Earp was riding a tornado or something. And then you could do a tall tales with like some crazy wrestlers, but it's really just a story of large men on Quaaludes.
00:51:53
Speaker
Yes. So it makes them do insane things and also makes the people around them have wildly inflated memories of what happened. So you're like, wow, is that story somehow 50% true? That's crazy. But then the 100% told version is completely out of this world. But if you show it from the wrestler's point of view, everything is distorted and colored beautifully like it's Wizard of Oz.
00:52:22
Speaker
And they are almost certainly the hero in every dance. But then, yeah, as you cut back to regular life colors, you just see a crazy man lifting a dumpster over his head and throwing it at a school bus because he thinks it's a monster. Yeah. Well, that was actually one thing I did like in the A.W.A. story is that, you know, I've heard the story. So Ken Patero went to jail
00:52:49
Speaker
for a couple of years in the eighties because they threw, uh, he and Mr. Saito threw a rock through a McDonald's window because it was closed. And, um, and then got into a fight with cops. And in his retelling of a pateras, like, well, there was this kid there. He was very angry because he'd gotten fired from the models and he's the one who threw the rock. And, uh, one of the other panelists is like,
00:53:14
Speaker
Wait a minute. So it was just this random kid that did it, that picked up a large enough boulder that basically to toss and like shot put it through a window. Not you, Mr. Literal World Strongest Man at one point. It was just a kid. And Kemper is like, it was a kid.
00:53:38
Speaker
Honestly, at this point, he could probably pass a lie detector test with that story because he's told that story as a lie so many times that he believes it. And then the second half of the story is him and Saito beating up 17 cops themselves. He's like, I do remember that. Well, the cops were really nice guys though afterwards. They were totally chill. And it's like, yeah, of course. Signed a couple eight by tens, fucked their wives.
00:54:11
Speaker
It's actually it's a great there's actually a great PAW Patrol episode. Rangel, a professional wrestler who Mayor Humdinger has brought in. He's like, it's going to be great. We're going to have a wrestling show in the town square. But the wrestler is he's basically the equivalent of 90s Jake Roberts and and the PAW Patrol, he like floats out to sea and the PAW Patrol has to like bring him in.
00:54:39
Speaker
And Ellen's snake in the process. No, they saved the snake. They saved the snake. The snake was also hopped up on Quaalute. What were they supposed to do? They shot it three times before it even showed any semblance of pain.
00:55:04
Speaker
Mayor Humdinger's like, it was just the good stuff. I just, I gave him a couple of white pills and nothing. How was I to know? Okay. Ozzy can watch Paw Patrol. Okay. That's the, just, just that one episode though. Just the one.
00:55:28
Speaker
I don't know. I don't know. Yeah. Yeah. The the only other wrestling I watched over the weekend, just I feel like I need to bring it up because I guess it was the last GCW I'm paying $14 for for a while was the I did get the L.A. show. I only watch two matches on it. I watched the opener and the closer I watched the the cage match between Starboy Charlie and Juicy for now.
00:55:57
Speaker
which was supposed to be a tag team match between, I think it was Starboy and Joey Janela against Joey or Juicy and Jacob Batu, which y'all were watching in New York. Batu was in New York winning the HOG title. But wait, that's what they replaced that. That seems like a weird, like, oh yeah, it's just a Starboy Charlie Juicy Fanal match now. A Steel Cage match at that too. Right, that's definitely the match we all wanted.
00:56:28
Speaker
Honestly, you're not missing much with that one. Our friend of the show, Matt, usually goes to those GCW shows and he ended up going to see Cypress Hill that night at the Palladium instead. And he said he wanted to see that one. I don't think he missed much with it. The other match was Gage versus
00:56:48
Speaker
versus Leo Rush, which I was texting you as I was watching it. It's such a bizarre match to follow Moxley. Right. Like, why would you pick a very fast pace guy? Like, that's not gonna be slow. That's gonna be a guy who is just ping ponging all over the place, doing flips. Like, he...
00:57:13
Speaker
It did, it was a weird second match where it really was just him getting his ass kicked by Leo Russians flying all over the place. And eventually they, what was it? They were going to go blow for blow. Like he wanted to go back and forth hitting, but no, neither of them would agree to who gets to get hit first. So then Nick Gage suggests let's play rock, paper, scissors.
00:57:44
Speaker
And then they do a best out of three rock, paper, scissors match. And it doesn't end with just like him going like rock, paper, scissors, shoot, Nick Gage kicks him in the dick or something. Like, which I don't think would be that heel move. I think the crowd would have cheered Nick Gage for just low blowing this asshole. Now, was the rock, paper, scissors a shoot?
00:58:10
Speaker
They worked themselves into a shoot, brother. So I'm guessing Gage wins, though. Gage wins, still the champ. The end did get a little better. Okay. I wouldn't... Honestly, I...
00:58:26
Speaker
I don't know. I mean, now that I can watch him all for $5, I'm going to watch every gauge match, which good for him. He's like booked on all these shows coming up in title matches. I mean, I would love to go to St. Louis. He's wrestling at Pops, which if there's any listeners, it's in Sashay, Illinois, which is in East St. Louis.
00:58:47
Speaker
Um, I had no idea that was the way to say it. I always assumed it was Soget, Illinois, but, uh, so J sounds way fancier. Okay. Oh, and it's for that side of town to have a fancy name. That is probably one of the scariest neighborhoods you could possibly go to in St. Louis, but pops is where we used to go to a lot of metal shows in high school and college.
00:59:11
Speaker
And it is a 24 hour concert venue. I want to say it's been 24 seven since 1987. It does. It has never closed except for one night that it caught on fire 24. So basically like after the show, they will never kick you out. Correct. Cause it is a 24 hour bar. Oh, this would be very dangerous.
00:59:37
Speaker
especially because where it is located is next to a gas station that has like gambling like horse race like off
00:59:46
Speaker
site horse race gambling and then there's three strip clubs surrounding it and that is all that's right there and then down the road is just like you're gonna get mugged. So basically if you're going to Pops like you can get off the highway pull into Pops and you're pretty safe there but don't go much further than Pops.
01:00:13
Speaker
And honestly, I went to so many metal shows there. I would love to see GCW. Like, GCW was made for Pops. And I saw that the last time they went, Allie Ketch posted like a video of her eating food at the strip club next door, like after the match. Next year, Garrett, I think when your child is older than like three months old, I think you take the trip to Pops and maybe eat some dinner with Allie Ketch at the strip club.
01:00:43
Speaker
Yeah, Nick Gage gets to go. He wasn't at the last one, so he'll be there. I don't know, it just looks like he's... I don't know, the more in-ring time he gets...
01:00:53
Speaker
it's gonna get better. And I could tell that it already was a little better with this one, but it just would have made more sense to me if they had Slade go in there and he just fucking kills Slade, looks like the king, and we move on. But- Right. I mean, cause that's like, I mean, like Leo Rush the night before was at a new Japan show doing like flips with like show. So like this was probably not the normal prep for like a Nick Gage match that one would have.
01:01:21
Speaker
He did cut off some of Leo's dreadlocks with the pizza cutter. Oh. Did Leo come out with the video he came out to New Japan with the piano on fire? No, that sounds very artsy though. It was very art. I was like, who's this? And he has a new nickname. What's his new nickname? He always has a nickname.
01:01:45
Speaker
I didn't know they didn't there were no videos or anything. OK. He's got a nickname now. I forget what it is, but he's out there. He's I actually would be excited for him. Like it seemed like him and you were like, did the respect handshake at the end. So like if he and you could be a team for like Super Junior Tag League, like I'd watch that.
01:02:06
Speaker
It does seem like, I don't know, Leo Rush quits and comes back a lot, but right now he looked good in the match. Like, I don't know. I've never not liked Leo Rush. I've always been pretty impressed with him. If he wants to stick around for a while and do some stuff in New Japan, yeah, then that'd be a fun addition. For sure.
01:02:25
Speaker
But OK, was there anything like what's notable from the New Japan shows that you went to? You said you had mentioned something about your tickets. So so before we get to the shows themselves, we're good. I think both shows were good. Best match, I think, was easily Shingo against El Fantasmo in the New York City street fight. That was that was really great and worth seeing whenever they put that up on New Japan World.
01:02:54
Speaker
I don't know if I paid $25 for it to stream and it's not on Fight Plus. But once it's up there, worth seeing. Once you've collected enough credits from the two you get every month.
01:03:07
Speaker
Um, yeah, you can use it to watch, to watch that. But so the venue is a concert venue. It's, uh, it's called the Palladium used to be the best by theater and the PlayStation. In fact, the last one was definitely PlayStation theater. Cause there was still like PlayStation symbols on the floor and the entrance. I was like, Oh yeah, it used to be called that. Um, and so they put the, the wrestlers came out on the stage. That makes sense. Right. They go down rings on the floor.
01:03:35
Speaker
but we had tickets in the sort of the first level off the floor. And I'd been there, been to plenty of concerts at this place and thought to myself, oh, that's kind of perfect, right? We'll have like, it'll be kind of, we'll have a little bit elevation. It'll be kind of perfect way to see the show. Instead, the ring was basically like eye level with the like edge of the floor.
01:04:02
Speaker
Um, like the edge of those sort of like where we were sitting, but wherever they'd set up these chairs, there was no elevation. So if you were in like the second row of this section, you were just staring at heads all night.
01:04:15
Speaker
Cause you were basically, there was no, you were like trying to like look around people to actually see the wrestling match that you'd paid for. So facts, Japan tickets usually aren't cheap. These were not cheap. So facts and I ended up standing, uh, for most of the first show, uh, actually next to a new Japan executive whose name I first forgetting, but he's one of those people who shows up on TV and you're like, Oh yeah, it's a new Japan guy. Um,
01:04:39
Speaker
Yeah, because the facts was trying to get him to get him underpants. You owe me underpants. He was talking to him about, he's like, you can't sign Bobby Fish. Whatever you do, don't sign Bobby Fish. Son of a bitch owes me underwear.
01:04:56
Speaker
and faxed down another double. They did actually have named drinks. I think it was like a ready to rumble or something like that, which was, or power slammers, but it was basically just a double. It wasn't a Jack and Coke, it was a Pepsi and Jack. But it was good. A new generation. A new generation. Yeah, and also I noticed actually, because in the second night,
01:05:26
Speaker
Um, same problem went to sit a little bit further back with our friend Andrew and realized being behind, cause we were at that point behind sort of the, um, the hard cam and seeing in the hard camp where they were like producing the show that there was no, so little elevation that the hard cam had heads in it. Like they hadn't figured out that the hard can you couldn't elevate the hard cam enough so that there weren't just a bunch of heads.
01:05:59
Speaker
That's a frustrating time for sure. That is annoying. I know I had some friends that when they went to the last
01:06:07
Speaker
GCW show at Pops. The the seats are always so close together that if you get a couple like big dudes, somebody's not sitting in one of those seats. And that's like, there's no solution to that. Like there's no you put these touching, knowing people's asses are bigger than most of these seats. That's a frustrating thing. Like, they set those seats up knowing like, Oh, this is gonna suck.
01:06:33
Speaker
I mean, I guess it's possible they didn't know when they put the tickets on sale. Didn't really realize. But now I guess now we know and we know that not do that. But I guess the problem, though, is that like if you're not in the first row over there, it weirdly makes the venue a pretty bad venue for wrestling. If you're not on the first like on the floor, like against the rail, jacked, jacked the thing, unless you're in the first row of those things, you have a kind of a terrible view.
01:07:01
Speaker
And if you're in the meds, like kind of further back, it's not great. Did I see the front row for those were like 300 bucks? It was something we did. Yeah, no one was paying. I'm sure someone did, but I guess I don't know why. Yeah, I think I paid something like that when I said second row at the Cow Palace when they were doing that like G1 special. Yeah, but the Cow Palace was Cody against Kenny and yeah, a bunch of others. I mean, it was the new Japan roster.
01:07:29
Speaker
The whole New Japan route. These shows were good. I think from a roster perspective, they had sort of the right batch of guys.
01:07:39
Speaker
They had on the main event of night two was Ocada and Eddie Kingston against J white and J juice Robinson, which was really good. And they had again, Shingo against Fantasmo, which is terrific. So Fantasmo had broken the KOPW trophy and Shingo came out wearing it like the bottom part of it with a giant gold chain. Like he was flavor Flav.
01:08:06
Speaker
I love that props to Shingo on that props to Shingo. And again, those were good. I mean, Suzuki wrestled Clark Connors, but Clark Connors had Ken Shamrock in his corner. Bizarre. Yeah, which we got. I feel like we got to have Suzuki and Shamrock, right? That's got we've got to look at the thing, right? They hugged afterwards. But come on, those guys, you know, a real a real hug between the two of them is them slapping each other in the face.
01:08:33
Speaker
That could even be just a spring break match. Josh Barnett's Bloodsport. Yep. Right. There you go. That's it. Yes. Yes. There we go. I'm very excited for that now. I hope that happens. Because we have Fight Plus, so it'll be free. For free. I don't have to pay for Bloodsport anymore. Amazing. Yeah. And that was, again, just a good show top to bottom. It's always a good time. To be in the same room as Okada is a good day.
01:09:04
Speaker
Yeah, a friend of mine, our friend Beth had never seen Okada before. And they were like, this is, you can get, you can quickly, you're like, yeah, I kind of get it with this guy. He's, you know, he's got like a thing about him. Like, yeah, he's special.
01:09:18
Speaker
He's the best. I'll never forget it, Starcast. We were some of the last ones to leave Podcast Row. We stayed until they kicked us out, basically. And right as we were packing up and everything was cleared out, we saw Okada come in with a baseball cap and sunglasses. He looked like he was Leonardo DiCaprio hiding from paparazzi.
01:09:44
Speaker
That's awesome. The, the, the first night they did an all mystery card, which was interesting. So it was a lot of new Japan against. Indie guys, some of which was kind of more interesting than others, but I mean, Suzuki wrestled hot sauce, Tracy Williams, which was pretty fun. Ozzy open wrestled the SATs. Um, they, uh, didn't even let by the way that that, this was definitely just the two Jose and Joelle. They let will be in the promo. Didn't even let him into ringside.
01:10:13
Speaker
Didn't even let him in. He was actually sitting next to your seats. Right. He was like, guys, we can barely see. I can't see anything. What else? Who else they have on there? Shingo wrestled Jake something. Which was an interesting surprise. Does Jake something do stuff for New Japan America? I think he's done some strong stuff. Yeah. What about was a Bateman on any of that? He was not. He was not.
01:10:44
Speaker
Crowbar showed up, he wrestled Fred Rosser. Crowbar was there. Which, Fred Rosser is still one of their champs? He wrestled the next night, the second night he defended against John Gresham, which was, Gresham was a surprise. The other interesting thing, so we get towards the end of the show and we're like, well, wait a minute. It feels like there's a lot of guys in this poster that aren't, we haven't seen yet.
01:11:12
Speaker
Maybe a couple of people couldn't get in or something, I don't know. Turns out the main event was a six on six elimination match. So it's Jay White, Juice Robinson, Elle Fantasmo, and all of Team Filthy, who were, I guess for Halloween, dressed as nuns, that was pretty hilarious, I guess, against Eddie Kingston, Okada, Yo,
01:11:40
Speaker
Amazing Red, Homicide, and Jon Moxley. Moxley ended up showing up. Moxley did show up. He showed up. I will say, so Moxley and Eddie Kingston ended up being the survivors. There was a pretty palpable buzz in the room when Mox and Jay White touched.
01:12:03
Speaker
Did you know that he was going to be there? Like, was it a surprise when his music hit and he came out? So there was a spot on the poster that was blacked out, but you're like, it's too high up on the poster and just the shape of his head. You're like, pretty sure that's Moss. So I feel like I had a sense he was going to show up, but.
01:12:22
Speaker
He did, he did, again, they kept him as a prize to the very end. And yeah, that was good. I mean, that match was pretty fun. And if they do Jay White against Mox, I'm in on that for sure. But yeah, Mox and Mox and Kingston standing tall. Has Mox had a fight for the New Japan title? He is not.
01:12:49
Speaker
He's never had like, cause he did the North of the North American one, but he never actually went for like the heavyweight championship. He never actually had a match for it. Yeah. I, I actually think though, I would much prefer to see that match when they're both not the tramp. Hmm. Cause I feel like if one's the champ and one's not, there's your finish, right? No, they're either side is putting their, the belt on the other guy. If they're not the.
01:13:14
Speaker
signed longer. That's true. And honestly, putting mocks in New Japan like you don't he doesn't need a title. Like it's just it's exciting to see him go against anyone over there. Exactly. Yeah, I just want I want I want to see the match. But although I guess juice, I wonder how long he's staying because apparently juice signed with a w two. So maybe like with our nature, like he's actually with a w was the report. I weird.
01:13:40
Speaker
Um, he did seem kind of done with me. I mean, I didn't seem like there was much else for him to do him. Becoming a member of bullet club was kind of pretty late. That felt very much like, well, we've cut your knees out as a baby face over this time. So. Bullet club. Yeah. I mean, when he got a new Japan right after he broke Owen's nose and got fired. And NXT. I think so. Basically like, basically like he got let go like the next day from that.
01:14:11
Speaker
And then he went to the dojo. Okay, then he went to the dojo and then he just was over there for... I mean, he had a good long run. You're right, there isn't much left to do.
01:14:22
Speaker
He could. I don't know. Yeah, I felt like he kind of topped out and it was kind of interesting, actually, just even thinking about seeing him and like Jay White together again, because you're like, oh, yeah, those guys were young boys together. Like they were young lions and now here they are tagging. They wrestled each other and now they're tagging against each other in the main event of a show. That's kind of kind of had been a cool moment for for those two. Yeah.
01:14:48
Speaker
I know we are getting close to the end here, but I do have to ask, how's facts? I haven't talked to facts in some time. Did he ask about me?
01:14:58
Speaker
Mrs. he says he loves he loves listening, listening to you and he gets to get to hear us every but yeah, fax is good. You know, he's just got he's been busy with some stuff and unable to carve out the time for the show or wrestling much weekend. It was good because the Yankees lost. We were able to enjoy a mystery evening of New Japan together and a number of I can't I think of the title of it.
01:15:24
Speaker
power slams or whatever. I know that's wrong. We had, we had several power slams, always doubles. That's always, it's always a much better deal to get doubles at these places because it was like $15 for a mixed drink, but it was only 22 for a double. That means you're saving $4 per mixed drink. Double the pleasure, double the fun.

Event Spending and Merchandise Musings

01:15:45
Speaker
But retrospectively, I mean, when you think about the fight plus deal now, I think to myself, man, I spent as much on
01:15:52
Speaker
on drinks that evening, as I probably would for Fight Plus for the whole year. Think about this, though. Now that we're not spending $14 on a show, all that money you're saving, you can spend on drinks at wrestling shows. That's a good point. The New Japan merch was very expensive. It always is. They made it really... Yeah, there was like $130 for a hat.
01:16:19
Speaker
What? Yeah, you're bullshit, like just like a flat bill, like baseball. Yeah, I guess it was imported, Garrett. It was imported from New Era, Japan, but Okada towel was $95. This is this is OK. I've never seen it this much. It was really bad. Crazy. It was like saying I bought the show, the T-shirt for the evening for $40. I always liked like sort of a mentor. And I with it, it didn't come with like a 30 percent card.
01:16:49
Speaker
that I gave to Beth because they said they were gonna buy the, if you've seen any of the Shingo ELP stuff, there's a Shingo is Daddy shirt and an ELP is Daddy shirt. And Beth was gonna grab one of those. They did not have those. So Beth's like, I'm gonna grab the Shingo shirt. Shingo is Daddy. And then they asked you, is he really a dragon?
01:17:15
Speaker
Exactly. Everyone has that question. Maddie has that question. Beth had that every, everyone has that question about. Well, I am infinitely jealous that you got another wrestle weekend. You got two weekends in a row. Um, hopefully I get something in Nashville soon. Cause I miss I'm so, dude, I couldn't go to the thing cause.
01:17:42
Speaker
I had to watch Ozzy and Leo was going to the opera. So I missed. You couldn't take Ozzy to the Mexican restaurant? I mean, I could have, but that would have probably been a lot. That's fair. That's fair. Also, the idea of taking your two month old to see Alberto Del Rio just seems like. See, that's how a child protective services gets called. Like, you know, he beat up people in parking lots that talk to his girlfriend. Allegedly, he was never convicted of anything.
01:18:13
Speaker
Why are we canceling people in the Twitter court of law with chief justice, Elon Musk? Come on guys. Uh, no, I get it. I actually had a moment. It is one of those tough moments. Uh, though the first time when you have a kid, when you're like,
01:18:32
Speaker
I'd like to do this thing and I just can't right now because I have to watch. It is like an awkward, especially as like you and I are both like doers, spontaneous, like, yeah, take us to the concert, take us to the show. I remember Maddie was like a few months old and Cindy was at a work thing and someone messaged me like, Chris Gethard is doing a secret show like

Cultural Events and Recommendations

01:18:52
Speaker
three blocks from your house. And I'm like, but I can't leave.
01:18:58
Speaker
Got a baby now. Cindy came home and I literally sprinted past her. I was like, bye. I can still catch half the show. I did make it to our anniversary as Halloween and we did go to, this weekend I went to two midnight shows of Rocky Horror Picture Show, which, have you ever been to one? I have not. I don't know why I haven't. It seems like something I should do.
01:19:26
Speaker
It is, as a wrestling fan, I feel like you will enjoy the yelling. It is, it's so fun. Like I hate that I didn't start going to these until my thirties because this would have been the most fun in college. But you know what? I'm happy that I found it at all.
01:19:42
Speaker
Can I take my daughter to one? Cause I think that would make Kane mad and I'm curious. No, okay. No, it is very offensive. It's very naughty. Like the yelling, the yelling of the screen is naughtier than the movie itself. But I would say no. I mean, you do you. But Kane, I'm letting you know I have taken my daughter to a drag show.
01:20:09
Speaker
Oh, naughty, naughty. Just letting Kane know. It was actually a nobody show. My daughter was like three months old. And then we went our Father's Day brunch was a drag brunch with the Nobodies formerly of Nobodies Watching Wrestling. I mean, if you have if you've never and if you're listening to this, you never watch any episodes of Nobodies Watching Wrestling. Go YouTube it right now. It's fantastic. Awesome.
01:20:37
Speaker
Well, I feel like we should probably go ahead and get out of here because we've been going a minute. But hey, it's always good seeing you, Chris. I don't. You know, it's just been me and you for a while and feels good. I'm not saying like it feels like better, but it feels good. I like what we got going here. You know,
01:21:02
Speaker
Derek and facts respectively are two of our best friends in the world. But, you know, they're just not as good as podcasting. And I'm just going to leave that there and see if they listen to the end. Exactly. See how long it takes them both to get to the end of the episode this week. And because we'll know that from from the text. Since we didn't pick, maybe they get to be pods of the week.
01:21:30
Speaker
Well, the part of the week is the part of the week. The part of the week is is either Kane, Alberto Del Rio or maybe Jeff Jarrett. I don't know.
01:21:42
Speaker
That is, yeah, that honest to God, too hard to pick between those three. You know what, Kane still gets it. Kane gives it up for the- Congratulations Kane. Congrats. It is election week. Hopefully you lose. I don't know if you're up for anything this time, but yeah. Hey, thanks for listening. Rate, review, subscribe at Predetermined Podcasts on Instagram, at Gartet on Instagram.
01:22:07
Speaker
I'm at Chris Miggs on Instagram. I think I'm still on Twitter for a minute before they, I guess, hey, we get check marks in if we want. That's one option for us currently now, too. But, you know, Garrett, I think there's one thing left to do. I just don't want you to do it at La Boom level. Hit our goddamn music.
