00:00:20
Speaker
All right, hi everyone and welcome to the Sci6101 where we discuss everything about the world of psych and the antics of Sean and Gus in sunny Santa Barbara. I'm Skylar and this is my partner Willie Steeman Beeman.

Analysis of Psych Season 3, Episode 13

00:00:33
Speaker
Today we'll be talking about season three episode 13 of the famed TV show Psych. Any given Friday night at 10 p.m. 9 p.m. Central.
00:00:46
Speaker
I saw this and I was like, wait, did they used to air at 10 p.m.? No, I was thinking that too. It's so late. Yeah. Because also for me, what are like the primetime slots?
00:01:00
Speaker
Or what were the primetime slots? Like seven? Primetime's eight. Eight. Okay. Yeah. Okay. So for me, I'm like, this is a primetime show. oh like This is a good show. 10 o'clock, it's too late for this show.
00:01:12
Speaker
wonder what was running at eight on USA Network. Especially on USA, right? I mean, it's like its longest running franchise next to Monk. Yeah, maybe it was Monk. Oh, I guess it could have been. Yeah, when did Monk finish airing?

Primetime Slots and USA Network Shows

00:01:26
Speaker
To track down a a guide from... A TV guide. From 2008. Oh my gosh.
00:01:35
Speaker
Oh, the days. Well, actually...
00:01:40
Speaker
USA is not represented here, but there is a schedule on Wikipedia. Nice. um This is like so important, you guys.
00:01:51
Speaker
We have to figure this out right now. This is part of our conversation regarding like the value of things. huh huh Why is psych possibly not primetime worthy? Why? Why?
00:02:10
Speaker
it's It's hard because looking up USA, it's just like the United States yeah television channels. It's like, no. USA Network?
00:02:21
Speaker
I do have USA Network in there.
00:02:26
Speaker
we might have to take this offline. Okay. We'll get back you. Do some research. Yeah. We write it down or else I will forget when. Yeah. I was going to say, if we found like an ad, it would probably say what time it was on, what time Psych was on. Oh, that's true.
00:02:40
Speaker
But like it wouldn't tell us what was on like before that. Correct. That's a very good point. But maybe we could find like an ad for Monk too. Oh, true, true. um Oh, I bet we could go back and watch some of the commercials for it.
00:02:58
Speaker
You know? Ooh, yeah. That's a good idea. Okay. Because I would definitely have it. We'll do a whole research project mini-sode on this. Ooh, maybe in between. cute. That's a great idea.
00:03:09
Speaker
Do a little mini-sode. Because getting very close to the end of season three. know. It's like three more episodes, right? Yeah. And some very intense stuff coming up. why I know. But we'll get to that later.
00:03:22
Speaker
don't know. Anyway, this episode so it is um A fun one. It's like I don't know what to call it, but like it's a football episode.
00:03:35
Speaker
Yeah. Like sometimes you're like, we're going to make an episode. It's going to be set. It's going to be a thing. This is the football episode.

Connections to 'Any Given Sunday' Film

00:03:41
Speaker
Yes. um We did watch a movie to support our viewing any given Sunday, which is presumably referenced in the title.
00:03:51
Speaker
Yes. um And is a football movie.
00:03:55
Speaker
yeah I would like to start off by saying I enjoyed it. But it was so freaking long. It was so long. I was like... And honestly,
00:04:06
Speaker
i I could have done without some of the football. Okay. but i was sitting there watching this movie and I was like 15, 20 minutes in and it's just the same football game.
00:04:20
Speaker
I'm like, I have watched half an hour football game and there's still like a whole movie left. I literally was like, is this the, is the movie just going to be on the football field? I've never seen an Oliver Stone movie. He's like a kind famous director i think uh i've heard of his name for sure and i don't know if all his movies are like this but it felt kind of insane to watch like there were definitely cutting was bananas yes and some of the conversations like they would be in the middle of these like dramatic monologues or dialogue scenes and we'd be cutting to gladiators and yes the sky thank you
00:04:59
Speaker
a What is happening? know. And it got to a point where I was like, am I missing the symbolism? Like, is there symbolism in this?
00:05:09
Speaker
I was like, what? Am I like daft right now? But it was just like a lot of cutting. Yeah, was lot. It was a bit. It was a lot. It felt like, I don't know. I enjoyed getting...
00:05:21
Speaker
getting i'm not a I'm not a huge football fan. I understand the game of football. I could watch football and like follow it. And I could root for a team if I had to. i have a very nice memory of us going and watching the Super Bowl.
00:05:34
Speaker
I think it was our last year. we went to like ah the neighborhood bar around the corner. do you remember that? They had like a potluck. i don't know if I remember that. It was like right around the corner and they had a potluck. And we just like went and watched the Super Bowl. It is like find and fun. And we were like, oh.
00:05:53
Speaker
There's like a community aspect to football that I i think is really wonderful. um But I guess I never thought about football, like maybe from this perspective, like from the perspective of the players, because I'm not an athlete.
00:06:09
Speaker
Like the farthest thing from. um So like being in like on the field with them and like the shit talking and I was curious about that.

Football's Physical Intensity and Dynamics

00:06:20
Speaker
i am I watch a lot more football. I have watched a lot more football in the last few years. than Yeah. I mean, i i feel like I remember it always being on in my childhood, and it does make me, like, it feels very fallish to me. It feels very nostalgic in that way.
00:06:36
Speaker
But I definitely, like, understand it more now and watch a lot. Yeah. So, I mean, I feel like I watch a lot of football, and I never played it.
00:06:48
Speaker
Yeah. but But, like, it seemed... very intense out there. Like, and the cutting really yeah exaggerated that. And, and yeah, the way they talk to each other and stuff.
00:07:00
Speaker
I'm like, I don't, I don't know if that's really how it is. Well, I feel like now too, they have those um sometimes they mic them up. I can't imagine yeah that they would. was wondering about that too. I was going to ask my husband about like yeah the micing up thing. Cause that is, there'll be like compilations of like the week of like the best of mic'd up for the week. And, and yeah, i'm like, they're getting this aggressive out there. i mean, people definitely fight and I do feel like, you know, there's a lot of,
00:07:34
Speaker
issues with bond this movie does get into some of them yes um like the kind of exploitation around especially like black football players and and these very like wealthy owners and stuff um and then and like the arc of the arc of shark hey um his story was interesting too like yes um being like one bad hit away from literally dying and like have, but being like, you know, that's like their whole life or even like Dennis Quaid's character. Like, yeah know, he doesn't, they don't know how to do anything else, which I think is a common theme for athletes in general.
00:08:18
Speaker
um it's like this game, it's who they are. Yeah. but But anyway, so yeah, the whole, the injuries, like what they do their bodies and, yeah and it it, like the tackling, like it, it is kind of crazy. And then can,
00:08:33
Speaker
like I can see how it would escalate when you are letting yourself operate at such a level that you can't hit people. and like And hard. like Yeah. And like use the full force of your body. you know what We repress those urges. so I can see if you're like letting all that out, yeah how tensions would get really high yeah um like Even we see it towards the end, I think, um in the stands. The fans are like yes fighting each other. And there is kind of this...
00:09:04
Speaker
instinctual like our basic instinct like yes rage id thing going on it's so funny because in in these like huddle scenes or in these like football play scenes not only the visual cutting, but also the auditory cutting.
00:09:24
Speaker
They cut to like lions and tigers roaring. Yes, was like an insane movie, honestly. Yeah, kind of. But I also, I kind of felt like it, yeah, it was a little insane, but it also kind of made me be like, oh, I get it. Like I get i get how like intense this feels to them.
00:09:42
Speaker
You know what i mean? Well, looking up Oliver Stone. Yes. all of his other movies are like war and politics. And I'm like, I get why. But I feel like for men, this is basically a war movie. Gladiators! Gladiators!
00:09:57
Speaker
so This is a war movie. That's how serious this Yes. But it's so funny because when I started hearing those like cheetah and lion and tiger sounds and then people started fighting in the stands I was like this is fucking mean girls was like this is mean girls fighting for mall yeah this is just mean girls um but yeah there were a lot of really interesting like person dynamics in this I thought it was it was and I do think I mean I don't I guess you don't have to tell a complete story I guess that can be a choice sure but do feel like
00:10:34
Speaker
so much had changed by the last game and I didn't feel like all of it was earned. Yes, totally. Like suddenly the Weemans, what's his name? Beeman.
00:10:49
Speaker
Beeman. Will Beeman. You smooshed them together. Will Beeman, Weeman. Weemans. Like he was suddenly on board with like everybody. Cap was like,
00:11:03
Speaker
he seemed like he was going to go back in for the second. Like I thought the conversation they had was that he was going back in and then he suddenly wasn't and he was fine with that. And I was like, wait, we're all one big happy family. I'm not sure how we got here. yeah Um, so I was a bit, but it had, like you said, it had a lot going on. Like it was an ensemble. So, um, yeah, there, there were some, some missing pieces for me.
00:11:31
Speaker
um but But yeah, it was interesting for sure. Yeah, I found myself being like, huh, oh, okay. Like a lot. Like, oh, all right.
00:11:42
Speaker
That's so interesting. Like the, you know, there were and like pieces about like drug abuse and alcohol abuse. And there were pieces about like, but i would even say like familial, like relationship abuse for a minute that I was like, whoa.
00:12:01
Speaker
Yeah, that was the other thing. Things went from like zero to a hundred. fast. um When Beeman Yes.
00:12:14
Speaker
ah You know, he's in this world for like a day and then suddenly he's just the worst boyfriend in the world and like that fight that they have is does bananas. Bananas.
00:12:28
Speaker
Yeah. bananas i know that poor girl bitch i'm like the thing you're not my wife li i know i'm like what like commenting on her butt it was just like it went it got so extreme so fast i was like whoa and then later dennis quaid's wife smacking him because he wants to retire like i don't know why she was so mad was so confused gonna go be a broadcaster that's what they do He's going to still make money.
00:12:57
Speaker
It almost felt like she was like, yeah make more I want to be married to a football player. And I like, he's literally killing his body right now. Like, cut him some slack. And I wonder, like, in any universe, would that really happen? Like, the wife would be like...
00:13:14
Speaker
i I think if someone similarly to, to Cap and Will and everyone, if there's someone who's like always dreamed about being a football player's wife and is like now a football player's wife, she's gonna be like, you can't give that up.
00:13:29
Speaker
Like, what do you mean? Yeah. I guess it's just like, he still is one. It's just, I know, but not to die. Yeah. I mean, I guess she does kind of get mad at him about, I mean, she almost has kind of a,
00:13:44
Speaker
PR role. Like in the. Just like conversations that they have. I don't know if she actually has any. Like is actually doing that kind of work. For his career or anything. But like they have that argument. When he does the commercial. And he has to share it.
00:13:59
Speaker
Right. um With Beeman. um
00:14:06
Speaker
And. She's like. You should have fought for the superstar line. And. They seem kind of incompatible for having this whole... like They've been together over a decade, have two older kids. like They're not like babies or anything.
00:14:22
Speaker
um but Because he makes a comment that like the teamwork line and the whatever line are the important lines or something. But maybe she didn't have yeah she didn't have to Like, because he has been the star, they didn't have to have conversations like this. Right. yeah good point. Up to this point.
00:14:39
Speaker
Yeah. um Yeah. Yeah, I'm not sure how the movie feels about women. Knowing her, have her.
00:14:52
Speaker
we have her yeah And Karen Diaz, yeah who I was curious to going into this movie because I read a little bit about what it was about and I'm a big fan of Ted Lasso. So I was like, hmm, would it be that kind of dynamic? huh Because it was like something, was like the female owner changing things and stuff. um But i I did feel like it was kind of weird how it like,
00:15:22
Speaker
She basically just had to learn her lesson. Yeah, which was odd considering she owns theoretically the team. Yeah, and like, I mean, i don't think, I mean, she was doing shady stuff, which that in itself, I don't know, like, I don't know. it wass just interesting that we only had really her and Cap's wife and then the ah Jamie Foxx's girlfriend who was Vanessa?
00:15:51
Speaker
Vanessa, yeah. think like I feel like those are the only yeah like female characters really in the movie. Yeah.
00:16:02
Speaker
I do have to say, I thought the cast was Like, the cast of actors that they had in this movie, I feel like every time I turned around, I was like, oh, my God. Like, oh, there's LL Cool was like, cool.
00:16:15
Speaker
There's Dennis Quaid. I was like, oh, my God. Yeah, Al Pacino. I was like, oh, my, wow. And it was funny. and I mean, maybe just because it's not the kind of movie I would know about, but I was like, how have I never heard of this movie? I've never heard of it. All people it. Yeah. i Yeah. I wonder if it's maybe just...
00:16:33
Speaker
Yeah, like not a not a film that I would be drawn to if we weren't doing this. i mean, I do feel like growing up, we had a lot of sports movies around, like Hoosiers and which I think is basketball.
00:16:51
Speaker
And I feel like there's another big football movie. See, you say you face sports movies and I go, oh, yeah. school musical that's a sport classic basketball remember the titans oh remember the titans i did see i like to remember the titans i cried and then remember the titans yeah i'm sure i did too it's been a long time since i've seen it though um so yeah i mean let's see on this i googling football movies o one two three four
00:17:24
Speaker
Six, seven, eight. It's the ninth listed one. Okay. What's the first one? Remember the Titans. ah Yeah. Okay. I think that's fair.
00:17:35
Speaker
So seems like a big one. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think, I think.
00:17:45
Speaker
So I've never seen Friday night lights and that's a TV show, not a movie, but. Well, actually i think it might be both. Do they have both? Yeah. Oh, 2004. Okay, so I think... Is that a spinoff?
00:17:56
Speaker
Or is the TV show a spinoff? Oh, that's a good question. Because was to say, I could see something like this fitting a little bit better in a longer form content like TV, where you could kind of parse into all of those different stories and yeah let things play out. Because we both said this was a long-ass movie, and even so...
00:18:21
Speaker
They didn't really get in everything that we felt like they they should have gotten in to tell the full picture of what was going on. And I'm sure if they, like, you know, tightened up what they were focusing on, they could have managed to do it in two and a half hours Yeah, because it's like if you want to tell but it's like if you want to tell that many stories. Because it was telling Pacino's story of, like, being you know, dealing with the new management and stuff, telling Cameron Diaz's story.
00:18:48
Speaker
and then, and there's like, just things thrown in, like her father always wanted a son. Okay. That whole scene too. She's like crying in the back corner. And could she hear them? I could not figure it out, but it was so confusing because they would have like, they would just have things playing and cut to other random stuff that I didn't know who who was in what scene. Um, um,
00:19:12
Speaker
And then Jamie Foxx's story, obviously, of being like this... I mean, just thinking about his story alone, i mean, I guess Al Pacino's the lead, but then i think probably Jamie

Character Development Critiques in 'Any Given Sunday'

00:19:24
Speaker
Foxx.
00:19:24
Speaker
And I mean, the way... we kind of speed run his story. Like, yes, in the first game, he like kind of makes good and then but loses and then takes him like no time to like really become the best quarterback in the world yeah or whatever.
00:19:43
Speaker
home and and And like the even before that really like, well, I guess it's right around the same time. that the fame and the money and the girls all gets to him and then he sees Vanessa and learns the air of his ways and sort of and but um yeah um and then it's the playoffs and he's comfortable on the sidelines and then he goes in like it's just it all happens so fast in a way also the dinner scene was yeah The dinner scene was weird with the gladiators.
00:20:14
Speaker
Yes. I was like, in the background what? It'd be crazy to watch this like high or something. Yeah. And there were so many montages. Like I love a good montage, but I was just like another montage. I mean, kind of, I felt like, well, it felt like a very long music video.
00:20:31
Speaker
Ah, you know, i think that I can get behind that. I can get behind. Because that also, like, you know, I think music video and I think, like, I'm thinking, of like, old school music videos, especially when you think, like, athletes. I'm i'm thinking, like, girls, cars, like, money, alcohol. yeah And that's intentional, perhaps. This movie, yeah. um Yeah, we even actually see one of those music videos.
00:20:58
Speaker
Oh, my gosh, yeah. That's true. I'm just trying to think back now to, like, the dinner scene and the playoffs. Oh, I guess the one thing that happens I feel like J.B. Fox, we don't really spend enough time with him to really see him learn from it, but he does have a really bad game in the rain, which that game looked crazy.
00:21:18
Speaker
I was like, would they play that game? don't know they would play that game. that's so I was like, this seems extraordinarily dangerous. Yeah, I mean, I think they played through a lot, but I was like, i don't know if they would.
00:21:30
Speaker
um I don't know. They definitely stopped for lightning. Lightning. That's fair. But that's It looked incredibly dangerous. i Yeah, I was scared throughout that whole thing.
00:21:43
Speaker
My anxiety was through the roof. Yeah, I was also scared in the last game because feel like... When Shark went down, dude, I was... Yeah, well, I felt even going into that game, like, we were like, Shark's one hit away from dying. Yes.
00:21:57
Speaker
Cap has got something crazy going on. Yeah. It seems like he is on the edge, too. Yes, yes. I was like... someone gonna die literally is what I thought and then I thank you what are you about to say when I was gonna say when shark went down I literally was like he's dead was like he's dead he he is dead he died on the field and his freaking wife and kids are there oh my god this is horrible don't do this awful awful awful horrible I was so glad I mean even though ultimately shark decided to play
00:22:32
Speaker
um I was so glad that that that other doctor seemed like the one good egg. Okay. We haven't even mentioned James Woods. Hades, the man, the myth, the legend.
00:22:43
Speaker
I was like, this man. i couldn't I literally couldn't think of anything other than just freaking Hades. Oh my God. Thank you. I was like, I don't recognize that man's face, but his voice is so familiar. He's Hades.
00:22:56
Speaker
i was like, dude. He turned out to be the bad guy. and I was like, yeah, that's, that makes sense. It's interesting. Cause like he wasn't, he was sketchy. I guess he wasn't. He was sketchy. Yeah. He was corruptible, but ultimately like Cameron Diaz was the one who was telling him to do it.
00:23:13
Speaker
He was just willing. And then this other guy has the other, like the junior doctor or whatever had like, the integrity and thankfully noticed that the guy tried to hide right the results or whatever. Were we supposed to get though like at the end when he, I don't remember his name, but when he was treating Shark before the game and he gave him that extra cortisol shot?
00:23:38
Speaker
Was that supposed to be like a oh but he's corruptible too. I don't know. That's a good question. Yeah maybe maybe he's just young and Yeah.
00:23:51
Speaker
I don't know. There's lot going on. there was There was so much to to really chew on. and i feel like this this is a movie that we probably could have gone like scene by scene and still been like, I don't know. There's so much. Yeah.
00:24:10
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. But the other thing that really, through so like, again thinking, is someone going to die? like And then Al Pacino like fell to his knees and I was like, wait, it see did he die? Did he have a heart attack?
00:24:24
Speaker
I was like, wait, what? And then later he's talking to Jamie Foxx and he just like disappears. I was like, was he dead the whole time? Was this just an image of the shit in the distance?
00:24:38
Speaker
I wouldn't put it past this movie, honestly. don't I don't know. And then i don't know
00:24:45
Speaker
Again, just without just how long. like i you know Wrapped up nicely. They won the game. Everybody seems to be friends. Cameron Diaz has learned her lesson. And then we have a press conference that lasts 10 more minutes yeah where we like credits.
00:25:01
Speaker
i was like, yeah, the credits are going. It's you can't even just end it and give us a credit sequence so I can turn it off.
00:25:10
Speaker
It wasn't even like, I also questioned like the purpose of that last scene because all we find out is that he's not. quitting football entirely he's just going to a new stadium with a new team but why does that matter to the overarching story well it did i feel like throw a wrench in the sort of bow that we had wrapped everything up on because like even cameron yes is like what the fuck you know thank you know you know she's again she's come to her senses yes she is she's thanking al pacino for you know teaching her the ways um uh
00:25:45
Speaker
And then Al Pacino's just like, actually, I'm out of here. And I stole your star player. we'll see you next season. um And yeah, and she's like, what?
00:25:57
Speaker
um Which, I mean, I guess,
00:26:02
Speaker
i mean, a couple things, I guess. Like, i've I think it also just speaks to maybe the cyclical nature of o sports and football. Like, yeah.
00:26:16
Speaker
that and also just how ruthless it is oh sure and continues to be because i guess that's also kind of what we were seeing is like how ruthless it was on the field and off because of everything yeah that she was up to um and and it can like even though al pacino's like you know seems to be a nice guy coach and um there's other nice guys and stuff it is ultimately still just that way yeah well and i feel like they kept driving that home too with like we're losing so much money and the profits and the tv and the blah blah blah blah bla but and like it never used to be like this before tv the first time they cut to commercial and whatever whatever you know um
00:27:06
Speaker
So not only is it like physically ruthless, but it's also monetarily, emotionally ruthless. It's just like, you gotta do yeah what we do for the ratings. It's capitalism. Yeah.
00:27:17
Speaker
It's capitalism with your children. man Actually, this is reminding me. There's some... like I meant to like look up what it's about, but I've seen a trailer a couple times recently for this horror movie that's coming out about...
00:27:34
Speaker
football player that's like it's i think it's produced by jordan peele oh cool so like that kind of psychological thing um but i'm not super is it him yes
00:27:55
Speaker
I just typed in football horror movies. Oh my gosh. That was probably easier than what I was doing. What were you doing? I was on just like an IMDB path of like looking at Jordan Fields' project.
00:28:07
Speaker
That's amazing. ah But just, I mean, I don't know really what it's about, but, and the um trailer is, I guess, cryptic, I might say.
00:28:19
Speaker
um yeah and But it does kind of seem like it may be about kind of similar themes, like how sports, you know, can like that, just the intensity of that, that lifestyle, especially at the professional level and like in football.
00:28:43
Speaker
um So yeah, maybe, you know, maybe we can watch that at some point. um Since, you know, we're students of horror and now football movies.
00:28:56
Speaker
Did we ever think we would be here? But I'll take it.
00:29:03
Speaker
We'll have to, we'll have to see. i do love a good, a good theater go. hu We can always venture out and then report back. Yeah. That could be one of our, our in-between season viewings.
00:29:19
Speaker
We'll have to discuss what we want to do. I love how both of us just are like, yes, squinting. Yeah, we'll figure it out. i I one of the things that I did appreciate about this movie, and again, we've seen Psych so many times, um and I feel like I've seen this episode so many times. Uh-huh.
00:29:39
Speaker
that some of the context from the movie I actually felt was kind of helpful I don't think they referenced the movie very much if at all other than the title um but certain things like there was a passing comment to like bonuses and I was like oh I get what you mean by that yes I felt the same yeah it's like shark's whole that's his name right Yeah, Shark, yeah.
00:30:01
Speaker
It's confusing because the team is also the Sharks. I was confused by that for

Connecting Film Themes to the Psych Episode

00:30:05
Speaker
a very long time. yeah Am I saying the wrong thing? ah No, you're right. But, yeah, Shark's whole thing that, like, if he gets one more sack, he gets, like, a million dollar bonus.
00:30:13
Speaker
Right. um And, yeah, the, like, very similar thing is said in Psych where or if he Matt, kind of the ringleader of the bad boys, is says that if he takes a bad hit, he'll be, he'll lose his bonus or something. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. If he's like out, he won't be able to get his bonus.
00:30:38
Speaker
Yeah. But I do think, yeah, just the kind of similar themes of how precarious, guess, like their positions are. Yeah. um The injuries, the intensity.
00:30:54
Speaker
Yeah. The injuries. That was another thing that I was like, whoa because i guess i never again just like it's probably because again i'm not i was never an athlete i got hurt all the time because i was a klutz but i was not an athlete so the idea of like putting your body through the wringer like that never really registered with me until we were in like halftime they're in the locker room And they're like on IV drips and like getting all this stuff done to them. was like, oh my God.
00:31:26
Speaker
And you're going to back out there? Yeah. It is like the wild. Yeah. And I do. I mean, i think every sport probably like has their, their stuff and athletes.
00:31:39
Speaker
I mean, you see all kinds of athletes and they're covered in tape and stuff. But like yeah football is in a league of its own kind of, which is, I mean, cause it's like basically fighting. Yeah.
00:31:52
Speaker
brutal yeah so we do get to see like a little bit of that in the psych episode too with like they do massages and gus is supposed to be like the training intern of like you know keeping everyone fit i guess yeah there's like those big plunge pools that they go and sit in and stuff like that
00:32:16
Speaker
So, yeah, I think the movie was interesting. I'm glad we watched it. I was entertained. I was thoroughly entertained by the movie. i thought I thought the soundtrack was great. i really enjoyed a lot of the soundtrack.
00:32:28
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, I did. I had like all the loftiest plans. Yesterday i was like, I'm going to watch the movie. i'm going to watch the episode. going to have all my notes. It's going to be great. And then to the end of the movie and I was like, I can't do anything else now. I was like, it's stuck forever.
00:32:42
Speaker
So i watched the I watched the episode today. But was like, oh my God. One other thing I was seeing about watching the movie, like comparing to Psych, was because we kind of talked about it being the NFL. They don't call it that.
00:32:57
Speaker
Yeah. um But the movie similar and they have all these fake teams that have really silly names. Yeah. The rhinos. um And and the like the look of it.
00:33:12
Speaker
Yes. I mean, and I don't know if it would be different. What year was that movie? Yeah. You have like the style of team jerseys or something. would have Yeah. 99. And just like the vibe in the stadium and like on the field and stuff. Like it definitely did not feel as intense as like watching an actual football game. Like the the scale of it.
00:33:35
Speaker
um I don't think they were really able to achieve that. I don't know if it would be different than watching it in 1999. That's a good point. Yeah. Yeah. But.
00:33:47
Speaker
It did, I don't know, it did make me think about like this same league in the psych world. And like, um I do think psych, it's smart of them in terms of ah like just from a production standpoint to have it be at training.
00:34:05
Speaker
Okay. This is a great point because I never before realized that they were at training camp. I just thought they were at football. football. You know what mean? But you're right. Because training camp, we saw talked a little bit last time about how like it makes no sense for there to be theoretically an NFL team in Santa Barbara of all places. Yeah. And I did notice. That's where training camp is. That makes sense.
00:34:29
Speaker
Well, i'm so I was still confused about that because. Well, they're they're kind of billed as the Los Angeles Thunderbirds. Yes, I saw that. So it's LA team. Yes. um And so I was thinking that too. It's like, okay, well, maybe just their training facilities in Santa Barbara. But I don't know if that's even true because Henry, why would Henry be working?
00:34:50
Speaker
Like, because that seemed like in this flashback, they're at a game. And two year Henry got them in because he's a police officer, which, and he seems to be on duty. So I assumed he was doing some kind of security detail. I mean, maybe it's some sort of preseason game that they're doing at the training facility.
00:35:09
Speaker
Yes. And the other thing is that it kept saying, like the building said home of the Thunderbirds. Right. And the like establishing shot was like a proper stadium.
00:35:20
Speaker
Right. So
00:35:23
Speaker
But I do feel like, um you know, can suspend my disbelief. Yeah. I'll do it for them. yeah And if you are not from California, you may not realize how far apart Santa Barbara and LA are. So you can totally be in.
00:35:41
Speaker
I'm like a hop, skip, and a jump. It's all the Yeah. like, come on. It's California. Everything to me is New Jersey scale. So even though it's like yeah an entire coastline, I'm like, yeah, it's fine.
00:35:53
Speaker
can get there. It's a bus ride. We're good. but
00:35:58
Speaker
Yeah, I did. I did like that this time it felt like a little bit more ah real watching it. And I wonder if that's just with the context of the movie that we just watched. But i was like, oh, yeah, those guys.
00:36:13
Speaker
I can see those crazy guys like being on a football team now. Like that makes sense. Or not necessarily crazy, but like really intense guys. You know, football team now. Like, oh, that guy over there who's terrified of being hit.
00:36:26
Speaker
That makes sense. I get that now. my like I know. That would be I'd be running away. I would never, like don't even want people to like give me a hug. I know. can't. I don't know

Realism in Football Themes of Psych Episode

00:36:38
Speaker
how people do it. i And some of those like,
00:36:42
Speaker
even some of the pylons that we saw like in the movie, cause we didn't really see a lot of, or we don't really see a lot of like football action other than just like drills in the psych episode. But some of the pylons in the movie, I was like, how are they not breaking necks and bones?
00:36:57
Speaker
Like this is and they do wild. I suppose that's true. yeah yeah i suppose it's true Yeah. I mean, it is wild what they are able to, um,
00:37:08
Speaker
persist through but also like yeah people do get really seriously hurt yeah well and I mean it's sad There's like a whole, yeah, getting injured, of course, is so incredibly sad.
00:37:26
Speaker
But then to like have the the skew on it, like Shark was saying, and I think like Cap was saying, that like they don't they don't know how to do anything else. Like that makes it just even more like gut-wrenching think that you could literally be like, you know, long time hurt, like hurt for the rest of your life.
00:37:51
Speaker
because of this sport and have nothing else that you can do like that's i don't know there's something terrifying about that yeah well and they mention or they allude to like all the people you know for every one superstar there's a hundreds of people you don't even know about and it's like and there is kind of this predatory thing i think with with all sports at certain level where they're kind of taking these young people and promising them the world. And, um and yeah, they just kind of are used and abused.
00:38:27
Speaker
um So it can really chew you up and just spit you out. Like, and like looking at, you know, like can't Cameron Deather, the commissioner, like these people in power, you know, this is ultimately, these people are
00:38:47
Speaker
really only as valuable as, you know, as they are, like literally have like monetary value. And it's, yeah, it's crazy. Definitely nuance.
00:38:58
Speaker
Yeah. For as crazy as it was. Yeah.
00:39:05
Speaker
But, yeah. Should we end the episode? Sure. So, we start off with I feel like I say this all the time, but with one of my favorite flashbacks. So cute. I love this flashback. That old baby Sean is just so cute in this one.
00:39:23
Speaker
So cute. And like, I love him in that big jersey. Yeah. And just like so doe-eyed and excited. and Kylie mentioned what essentially happens, which is Henry is there, like in the tunnel with Sean, or certainly at least, I don't know what you'd call like um behind the scenes, if you will.
00:39:44
Speaker
It seems like they're in the tunnel. cause i And I feel like in the like later, they're kind of in the same spot. Oh, full circle. love that. think there is kind of that.
00:39:55
Speaker
That's so it's sweet. Bookending view. Yeah. Well, definitely. Well, yeah, yeah. And especially because it starts with Sam running out, like running out from the field and then Sean's running into the field.
00:40:08
Speaker
and love that. That's yeah, that's great. So there was just a game and hold on. wait. wait Oh, against Denver.
00:40:19
Speaker
Never mind. um was going to say, are they in Denver? Why would they be in Denver? Yeah, I think Sean does refer to it as like the Denver game. The Denver game. Yes, yes. But probably against Denver is what he meant.
00:40:30
Speaker
Yeah, there are some nods to actual teams and cities. Oh, yeah. Which is fun. Well, like, I mean, the only one, um like, Jules mentions Miami Dolphins.
00:40:42
Speaker
Oh, yes. Which is our real team. That one I know. So refreshing after any given Sunday where they're all just so silly. My was the Crusaders. I loved them. They were great.
00:40:55
Speaker
And it is funny because, like, it seemed really silly in the movie, but also, like, they are silly, like. Yeah, totally. In real life. We're just used to them. Yeah. Like, mascots are kind of a weird thing. Yeah. Yeah.
00:41:06
Speaker
Yeah. But rhinos really got me. was like, what? A rhino. It sounds like youth soccer or something. Yeah. Oh my gosh. I want now, I want them to have like one of those squishy horns.
00:41:19
Speaker
Oh, and they probably would sell that. Be so good. Be a great marketing ploy. Any who's at shot it. Shot at Henry in the tunnel and Sam Winslow.
00:41:31
Speaker
their favorite player and the quarterback on the, I'm guessing, ah LA Thunderbirds still, comes running off of the field and Sean and Henry are like so excited to get to talk to him.
00:41:44
Speaker
and you know sam runs by and sean says hi and then throws a question to him want to know why you threw the interception in the third quarter and henry's like don't listen to him like no it's okay and sam like entertains him and comes over and listens to what sean has to say and he says you know but he does look very stoic like you don't know if he's mad or not Right.
00:42:11
Speaker
Well, also like fair, small 10 year old, I'm a professional football player and I've got professional coaches. Like, what do you know? And he says to him, every time you're going to throw wi quick, quick pick, is that what it is?
00:42:24
Speaker
A quick pass? and which just comes to house Quick pass to the left side. You rub your hands and clap the ball twice. And Sam is like, all right, and like walks away all stone-faced, turns the corner, and comes back, and he's like, hey, kid, and throws him the game ball.
00:42:44
Speaker
And I just love Henry and Sean. After this, Henry's like, we got the game ball! Like, he's so stoked. I know. They're so excited. Yes, so cute.
00:42:57
Speaker
And Sean's like, I got the game ball. really Like Sean would do. yeah It's still very Sean. Yeah. but I just, I loved that as a starting point for us because then we get little like bits throughout the episode of henry and sean watching that watching sam like every weekend like this is something that they did together all the time again henry just being the present parent yes and sean even says this is like the one thing that we could agree upon yeah there's like something so sweet about them now getting to meet him like for real and have conversations with him and like sean knowing how
00:43:42
Speaker
impactful that will be for henry like i know to really be thinking about that and making it happen and stuff ah skin say you one thing since we address it we might skip over it later but when he does say that this was like the one thing that they have in common yes and he says that and asian's law and harry hamlin and i looked up harry hamlin yes harry hamlin and he was a co-star of corbin's in la law Shut up.
00:44:13
Speaker
That makes so much sense. Cute. That is really cute. Yeah, i love when they make those little nods to like real life stuff. Yeah, that's sweet.
00:44:25
Speaker
What is what is the Asian slaw? Is that food? I assume so. okay you sounds Like cabbage with the cold like Asian dressing on it. Easy, crunchy Asian slaw.
00:44:43
Speaker
No. Cabbage, scallions, olive oil, rice, wine, vinegar, sweetener, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, chili paste. Sounds great. Sounds delicious. Yeah. Ooh, we could add that to our... Yeah, more nutritious.
00:44:56
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Instead just baked goods and alcohol. Yeah. That will be our one healthy thing in the after show. We'll have some Asian sloth.
00:45:08
Speaker
So then we we jump to the present. And i felt like I was just loving this episode so much. I took very few notes. which It's not good for me as a human. It will just be a larway. do feel like you are usually our guide.
00:45:27
Speaker
i am. i Yes. The guide through the psychic realm. was just like, oh my God, I forgot how much I love this episode. um And we start off at the police station. The boys are like rushing, but not really rushing, into the station because they've gotten 12 missed calls from Chief Vic and everyone seems to be a little bit frazzled.
00:45:50
Speaker
Like, Jules comes up to them and is like, where were you guys? Like, what's going on? and Lassie's all confused as to why they haven't been picking up the phone. And Sean's like, none of this would have happened if we just used the psych signal that I suggested.
00:46:05
Speaker
And Jules is like, it would have cost $200,000. Unnecessary. Sean put together a proposal for it. Which, of course, he did. And I love that his response was, we would have gotten that in the bake sale. like Because the bake sale was, of course, in the plans for it.
00:46:24
Speaker
And we end up finding out that the reason why Vic is so frantic is there's a possible missing persons case, which I do feel like is possibly a more frantic thing than like a murder.
00:46:38
Speaker
Yeah. Because in the case of them like... Sadly, of course, someone has died and you want to catch the killer, obviously. But in this case, someone could still be alive and they could save them.
00:46:49
Speaker
So she is wanting to get on this case as soon as possible. And the big goop and gag this scene is that the only thing they have to go by is a severed foot.
00:47:02
Speaker
And this, like, you know, it's on the screen. And I was like, this would have been a great time to intro Woody. Like, yeah. With the foot. I know. I once again was like, oh. Woody.
00:47:14
Speaker
It's amazing how long we have to wait for him. I know. When does he? I need to know when he shows I think it's season five. Oh, my gosh. Woody Strode. And you wouldn't know. He just no right in. He does.
00:47:27
Speaker
He does.
00:47:30
Speaker
Oh, season four, episode seven. Okay, cool. We don't have to wait for that far. getting there. Yeah, thank goodness. I need some some Woody.
00:47:39
Speaker
And um this foot, poor Gus. Oh my gosh. Gus, we already know. I mean, this would be rough. ah Yeah.
00:47:49
Speaker
and Even looking at it on the screen, it's rough. Yeah, it is. it's pretty It's pretty tough. and it It seems like they may be like,
00:47:59
Speaker
I don't want to fished it out of a lake or something, but it's like blue and icy and like, you know, yeah it's like no bueno. And Gus is having a very hard time. He's, you know, holding back his stomach from going all over, trying to be fearless Guster, trying his best.
00:48:16
Speaker
um But he ends up he ends up leaving, as I would have done as well. Well, it's first try. is into, I don't know why he chose the like refrigerator looking door.
00:48:29
Speaker
know. Does he know that's where they keep the bodies for identification? I think he's figuring that out right now. Oh, poor Gus. And I love his little line later to Sean, which is like, my phone was just buzzing. It was killing He's like sitting on the stoop of the station and it's just like...
00:48:53
Speaker
Sorry, I just had to, you know, deal with this. It was shocking my way. i' so I like that story. Let's stick with it. Yeah, let's stick with that story.
00:49:05
Speaker
And I just, part of the thing that I find so funny about this whole thing too is it's like, everyone knows, Gus. Like, you don't have to hide. like you know, it's so but we're all just kind of pretend. believe, yeah.
00:49:18
Speaker
It's all right. So they, you know, of course, ask Sean to psychically determine who is the owner of this foot. Which, the way Vic phrased it, I don't remember exactly how she phrased it, but I was like, such a way to say that. The owner of this foot.
00:49:37
Speaker
um And Sean goes into so many bits about, like, five little pictures. Oh my gosh. He's having a field day. and Yeah. Yeah. He had some really great ones on the way out. This may cause a stink.
00:49:48
Speaker
Yeah, that was very funny. Yeah, yeah. He's having a great time. um But it seems like in this moment, he can't really get too much from the foot other than there's some calluses on it.
00:50:00
Speaker
There's a scar on it. And like it looks a little worn. And that's kind of it for the moment.
00:50:09
Speaker
But he, like, later on makes the connection that part of the calluses, or i guess they're actually in the station, and Jules mentions that, like, the calluses would only happen if someone wasn't wearing shoes.
00:50:23
Speaker
Yeah, I think first, like, he kind goes back and forth with Gus a bit about... Oh, on the stoop. Yeah, you're right. On the stoop. How the calluses were weird, they were so symmetrical, like it was caused by a... mean, Gus says...
00:50:39
Speaker
It would be a repetitive motion and like like kicking and Sean keeps repeating what he's saying. Yes. Like an athlete. An athlete. He's like, sorry, it helps. And then they go back in and he has a vision. Oh, right, right.
00:50:53
Speaker
The foot on the... His foot is communicating with them and determines or and shares that could be an athlete. um Somebody who does a lot of kicking.
00:51:04
Speaker
And then Jules says... ah Well, i think Sean says like a soccer player and Jules is like, well, soccer players wear heats. Yes, you're right. Yes. and But the calluses would need to be without shoes for that to happen.
00:51:17
Speaker
And then that's how later on, both Sean Jules independently figure out that the only person who would have been repetitively kicking something without a shoe on is our main man, Val, who is the kicker. la Oh, sorry.
00:51:34
Speaker
I said Val. Yeah, Vlad.
00:51:37
Speaker
ah You know, his his female cousin down the road. Val. Yeah, Vlad, who is the only kicker in the league who kicks without a shoe on. And he just happens to be in the Thunderbirds.
00:51:52
Speaker
they go over to the training camp, which we're assuming is maybe in Santa Barbara, question mark. And I guess it must have to be for Lassie and Jules to have jurisdiction. all in Santa Barbara. Okay. And we just have to.
00:52:05
Speaker
we just have to live with it. that's That's. I'm okay with living with it. I think they might have been like, let's do a football episode. We know that LA is not that close, but.
00:52:18
Speaker
No. People watch. Everybody else is going to be able to. And, you know. I'm a big believer in spending your disbelief with these shows. I don't care. Yeah, I think it's fine.
00:52:30
Speaker
I think it's fine. So they they end up going to the the training camp. And i was actually very proud of Jules for getting there before Sean, because usually Sean is like on the up and up. But it was actually kind of interesting because I feel like that happened a couple times in this episode where the the cops kind of got there before Sean did.
00:52:48
Speaker
Yeah. I'm not going lie. It makes a little sad. Not this time. But the Lake one in particular, was like, yeah and I think maybe because Sean is so like the Rome.
00:52:59
Speaker
He is. um But yeah. Well, and I was like, i you know, i don't remember exactly what episodes come at the end of the the series or even again, we watch it so like secularly, like just over and over again.
00:53:13
Speaker
I don't even necessarily remember the themes of season four. I'm like, is this foreshadowing something? Like is he going start having, you know, some difficulties again? Who knows? We'll have to see. um Well, it is fun, and it's fun, too, with Jules in particular in this episode, is she is a big football fan.
00:53:32
Speaker
Oh, my. Like, we're learning a lot about her. Yes. She, well, she's a football fan, but maybe more than anything, she likes football players.
00:53:43
Speaker
Yeah, she's a football players fan, yeah. Yeah. She dated one for a little bit one summer in college. And she just loves that uniform. Yeah.
00:53:54
Speaker
She's like...
00:53:59
Speaker
you know we don't really get super like sexy in this show like but we are really seeing her like physical reactions yes like biting her lip and stuff she is turned on by this situation definitely definitely and Sean is going to play up to that as much as he can but I like some of her throwbacks to him the early years yeah they are having like their flirtiest episode in a while yes definitely definitely definitely
00:54:30
Speaker
So they end up, Jules and Lassie, wanting to go in to interview the team manager and the like head coach, which just so happens we find out to be Sammy Winslow, who Sean met in the tunnel when he was 10 all those years ago.
00:54:51
Speaker
And both Gus and Sean's like hit one of their heroes, like one of their favorite New football players of all time. And because Jules and Lassie are there, they kind of let Sean and Gus tag along, really.
00:55:03
Speaker
i guess so they can cover more ground or so Sean and Gus can pick up on things. Yeah, mean, they do seem... to want sean and Gus on the case.
00:55:13
Speaker
Yeah. They did call him a million times. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They're always, I feel like Lassie in particular is always like a little apprehensive about letting them in, but here it was kind of like, all right, I guess you're already here. So let's just like, come on. Like, why do we need pretense? Let's just go.
00:55:30
Speaker
um And the boys are so excited. Like little kids in the candy shop excited. about this jumping up and down huge smiles like know they talk to sammy winslow at one point and literally don't even speak just have these massive grids on their faces it's sean even says at one point in the episode like oh i've got two days to live out my entire childhood dream yeah and actually we were just talking about that in the last one right with the firefighting like that again this is like a recurring um thing for them that
00:56:08
Speaker
this this childlike wonder that they are bringing into all these cases.
00:56:15
Speaker
and Definitely. While still, like, you know, being serious and trying to get the work done, of of course, we've talked about that balance all the time. Mm-hmm. And major theme this season. We're heading into, like, the the episodes.
00:56:30
Speaker
The climactic episodes. Yeah.
00:56:34
Speaker
It's gonna be a lot. Mm-hmm. So they they talk to Sammy Winslow and tell him that, you know, Vlad, why can't I say his name?
00:56:46
Speaker
Vlad has lost a foot. I appreciate Gus's commitment in this episode to saying Vlad. Vlad. Yes. Vlad. Yeah, because I guess it would be Vladimir, right?
00:56:58
Speaker
Yeah. Vlad. And he was the only one, but he only said Vlad. Vlad.
00:57:04
Speaker
You know, it's so funny. Sometimes I wonder that, like, um you know, because I have no context for, like, how people actually film TV shows or, like, movies. Sometimes I wonder, because often I feel like we hear different pronunciations, not necessarily in this show, but just in general, different pronunciations feel like, different words.
00:57:21
Speaker
I'm like, is someone, like, watching the continuity of that or are there cases where it's a legitimate choice like in this case it feels like a legitimate choice like gu yeah that i am going to say this man's name yeah and i feel like i could see gus being the kind of guy who would say like croissant yeah or something you know like yes be very like aggressively pronounce things correctly yeah for the sake of the correctness of it all
00:57:51
Speaker
lord oh no's sorry sorry but' we're talking sammy winslow vlad is dead or no he's not dead yet he's lost a foot we don't know where he is feel like we should mention it's um the end of the day and we've both worked all day yeah we're like not quite on top of things right now we're yeah a little little little loopy from the day um And yes yeah, Sammy is like, well, I just thought, like, didn't really think anything of it. Sometimes he just does this before the season starts. Oh, yeah, we do get some important, like, background on Vlad and ah guess mainly him right now. But yeah, he's kind of a free spirit.
00:58:36
Speaker
Yes. And wild.
00:58:41
Speaker
And he had he he does disappear. So yeah, Sammy Winslow wasn't really thinking about there was anything to be concerned about. Yeah, and i feel like he's got to be like a really good kicker for him to be like, nah, miss training camp. It's fine. Just show back up.
00:58:58
Speaker
like Yeah. Well, I mean, and we do know Oh, my God, Sammy. Does he go by Sam very much? Yeah, i've I've got Sammy Winslow. Yeah. um they Like, he is kind of a stickler about stuff.
00:59:16
Speaker
Yes. And and he may maybe he would have, if Vlad came back, maybe he would have. you know there would have been consequences but yeah I feel like he's just not worried like he doesn't think anything's actually wrong he's just like sure i'm glad because he does like that's kind of his whole thing this season um it's like he's really coming down on the shenanigans yes great thing Sean and Gus are coming in yeah
00:59:49
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. We find out that I guess everyone was or there were many people who were like getting arrested, doing illegal things like, you know, stuff was kind of coming back negatively press wise on the team.
01:00:03
Speaker
And he didn't want that to continue. So he put a behavior clause in their contract and essentially said if anyone misbehaved essentially based on I guess the criteria that he put in the contract then Sammy could essentially fire them like the contract would be void and it's interesting to get to see
01:00:28
Speaker
just how much like kind of kids they are like you know I want to do the fun things but I don't want to get caught and get in trouble so I'm going to try and find that like in between of the boundary well yeah I mean professional sports is kind of an interesting like line of work to be in because there is sort of it's what you do from when you're a kid and so there is kind of could see maybe some arrested development happening there. yeah And
01:01:03
Speaker
you're also in a position where maybe you are very young and you're given ton of money. Yeah. And you yeah you want to have a great time.
01:01:16
Speaker
So yeah. I mean we we definitely do see professional athletes do stupid stuff. Yeah. Yeah.
01:01:29
Speaker
So Lassie like yells at them for not speaking up when they were talking to Winslow because they were just so like, ah oh my God, Sammy Winslow.
01:01:39
Speaker
And then Jules and Lassie go and talk to Matt Tompkins for the first time. Which, this is when Matt plants the seed of Russian mobsters maybe being involved. Oh, right. Okay.
01:01:58
Speaker
Because he was into them for a lot of money, so he said. Well, he he's sort of... feel like he doesn't come right out and say it, but he sort of paints a picture. He says that Vlad...
01:02:14
Speaker
glad gambled and owed people money and then he also lost or he was gonna open some casino or something with his cousins in Russia his cousins just with his cousins and he like lost a bunch money gambling or something and last he's like are these Russian cousins and yeah the guy's like yeah duh hello so he is quite he definitely seems to be the mastermind even in like yeah later when we see kind of little flashback of what went down which again i don't know if that's what really happened or what sean is imagining yeah um but he's like kind calling the shots but we definitely get that sense later yes and then think we go into the coach's office because the boys have their jerseys on
01:03:05
Speaker
i do Oh, no. Oh, no, not yet. I'm sorry. I lied. I lied. We're on the field. Sean and Gus are making his observations.
01:03:16
Speaker
Yes, I think so. Did you? Yes. And. No, that was before, actually. All right. Sean, because I put before Sean clocks tons of things about the players. Yeah. Yeah.
01:03:31
Speaker
So what happens now? grammar Now, Sean and Gus have Sean has 44 on, Gus has 7 on and Jules and Lassie come downstairs. This is when the boys show Jules and Lassie that they got Vlad's phone.
01:03:44
Speaker
I think that is after. After what? Because when Sean runs out in the uniform Jules checks him out.
01:03:54
Speaker
that now? When he runs out in the uniform? No, that's after. Because they have to come up with the plan. These are the jerseys that they got from Yeah.
01:04:08
Speaker
Someone. Because they thought that Gus was Taye Diggs. Oh, yeah. Yeah. ah And Lassie gets all mad at the boys because he thinks that they stole the phone.
01:04:21
Speaker
And this is when Sean's like, nah, the custodian let us in. and and he i Okay. It's all coming together. Yeah. And this is when Lassie, you know, they're talking, whatever they're talking, they're talking.
01:04:35
Speaker
And, um,
01:04:39
Speaker
he He says, Lassie goes, you think someone planted the phone in his locker? And Sean goes, no, I think someone put it there purpose. Lassie's like, that's what I just said.
01:04:52
Speaker
And Sean goes, yes, but I put it as a statement. who So something about ah authority. Yeah, authority. Yeah, so mine had more authority. And then he does the same thing to Gus, and Gus is like, oh, dude, that's amazing.
01:05:07
Speaker
And then they go. to sammy winslow um
01:05:15
Speaker
and i mainly just want to mention the partner name pretty good yes but my partner daquan smallpox randolph you can call him gus my question would have just been like where he get gus from that sir Where is that?
01:05:33
Speaker
Yeah. Not a lot of people ask follow-up questions about the partner name. No. People just really go with it. People are like, all right. I guess so. I do love in this one, they call back to it. Sean and Gus call back to it at the very end, which I don't feel like we've ever really seen them do.
01:05:51
Speaker
No, not usually. It is kind of like a throwaway. Yeah. But I do like that. I do think that's fun. Yeah. Yeah. So they're they're in the coach's office and they introduce themselves and and Sean introduces himself to Sammy as the the kid after the Denver game who told you about your passes in the third quarter.
01:06:14
Speaker
And Sammy immediately remembers him, which I was like, oh, that's cute. And he said that he didn't throw a pick the rest of the season, which I don't really know what that means, but going to guess.
01:06:24
Speaker
An interception. ah So Sean fixed him. Ah, wow. Very nice. We like this. So of course you remembered. Yeah. They should have just made Sean like a ah fake coach if he can read everybody. Like why did they make him a kicker? But so they, you know, Sean kind of cues Sean.
01:06:47
Speaker
Sammy in to the fact that they are, again, as he saw, working with the police. And he thinks that he really, they really need to get in there. They really need to like see, you know, he's a feel thing, smell things, touch things, lick things, as we know.
01:07:01
Speaker
And Sammy doesn't seem too convinced as most people don't and really in the beginning. But then Sean, of course, pulls all of this information that he got about the different players from their kind of first time on the sidelines.
01:07:17
Speaker
things like one of the carrie one of the characters, one of the players shouldn't have come back. ah They came back too early from their concussion. Another one is upset about being second string, even though they say that, you know, they're okay with it. One of them has just a ton of water weight um on right now.
01:07:32
Speaker
And another one is worried about his wife finding out about the fact that he's seeing one of the reporters. And, This seems to be like the thing that kind of gets Sam to be like, okay, all right.
01:07:46
Speaker
Yeah, I get it, psychic. like You see stuff. And he agrees to let them go undercover. Gus goes undercover as a training intern, and Sean goes undercover as a possible kicker.
01:08:02
Speaker
This is when he runs out and Jewel sees him for the first time the official uniform. And she's just checking out. The players in general. And then he tosses her look over his shoulder and she's like, gosh darn. I can't believe it.
01:08:17
Speaker
Yeah. ah and I do love that like right after that he goes to one of the players and like hits them on the shoulder. And then the player like it knocks him to the ground doing the same thing.
01:08:31
Speaker
I'm like, yeah, put in his place a little. Check that ego. Yeah. He is... His whole persona in this is so funny.
01:08:43
Speaker
It is wild. and And it's like he's on one hand just like ah kid living his dream and on the other like being this incredibly strange person yes yeah he really can't turn off the strangeness sometimes like even he's right after this he's talking to one of the other kickers number six and there he's asking like this guy is clearly trying to be like polite or like personal like ask him about where he's played before because he hasn't really heard about him and Sean goes on this like wacko tangent about the fact that he has like an elbow filled with ostrich cartilage it's like
01:09:29
Speaker
oh too funny I can't with him Oh, and then we find out his his name, his undercover name. Yeah. We could have used it as Emilio Estevez Estevez. Yeah.
01:09:42
Speaker
Just ridiculous.
01:09:45
Speaker
later And that a stem-ass. And then the guy goes, oh, like the actor. And he goes, no, you're thinking of Charlie Sheen.
01:09:56
Speaker
And he goes, actually, you're probably not thinking of that thing.
01:10:02
Speaker
He's having a ball. Oh my god, a blast.
01:10:09
Speaker
Which maybe that's also why like later on at the beach, it's extra sad when you know the the police get there first and Sean like loses all of his quip.
01:10:20
Speaker
And you're like, what's happening? That quippy Sean. He always has something. So as Sean and Gus are doing their thing undercover, Lassie and Jules...
01:10:34
Speaker
look through, i guess, Vlad's personal effects and find a ripped up gambling ticket they can... And Lassie is like very single-minded about the Russian angle.
01:10:49
Speaker
Yeah. And Jules is even, like, they haven't really found anything yet. And Jules is like, we've got to start looking for something else because there's nothing here. And then they find the gambling or the betting stubs or whatever.
01:11:04
Speaker
um
01:11:06
Speaker
but But yeah, Lassie, as he often is, kind of has tunnel vision. Yes. And I'm sure that serves him well at times. But considering they don't really have any hard evidence yet, it seems fruitless to kind of run with something that you don't really know is substantiated yet.
01:11:28
Speaker
But they run with the gambling ticket and that makes sense because that's physical evidence. And they find, i guess they cross-reference it to Vlad's phone records and see that the phone number called Vlad twice, like the day before he died or the day that he died.
01:11:48
Speaker
And they use that phone number to then track ah track someone to a laundromat. And that's where they go next.
01:12:00
Speaker
I was interested that as they're leaving, the camera just like zooms in on the keys. Yes. I feel like we don't often see that like in the show. Just a little bit of like foreshadowing kind of.
01:12:13
Speaker
Yes, yes. Yeah, especially without Sean present. Yeah. Like sometimes Sean is the foreshadowing force. There's like a third like an omnipotent like yeah here on their perspective that's like yeah and well and now I feel like we've we've come back to this every like once in a while of being like let's go they just kind of threw something in there like little bit different like again I'm thinking of like the roller derby episode where it's like all of a sudden we're looking at maniac or and not maniac that's Jules um frig nugget who was it doesn't matter doesn't matter
01:12:53
Speaker
um And we're just like, huh. Yeah, I i wonder...
01:13:00
Speaker
We're gonna, again, keep our eyes on that. See how that develops over time. But yeah, that was really interesting. To see that come back around. I think we go back to the training facility. and this is one of my favorite... Maybe my favorite scene of the episode. Yeah. oh It is pretty funny.
01:13:20
Speaker
but The trio...
01:13:26
Speaker
which I think we were introduced to the fact that they are the warriors because they they call themselves the warriors because they're the wildest guys on the team. Correct. We learned that earlier. Yes. So those guys come into the like hot tub room and they're just talking and and I made note he talks about his bonus.
01:13:46
Speaker
Yes. And then Sean just bursts out of the hot tub. Which I was like, how long were you in I don't know. And he's in a wetsuit and a swim cap and he looks bananas.
01:14:00
Speaker
He does. And they have them, this is when they have like the Charlie, the Charlie Sheen line and yeah and just like other banter and, and Sean is just like, he truly presents himself just like such a bonkers way. And it's so funny.
01:14:16
Speaker
um And then when he Well, he gets some information from him and he makes some observations like Matt has a burn on his wrist, which... Oh.
01:14:31
Speaker
He hasn't seen Vlad's body yet, but when he does, Vlad will have the same burn. yeah um And one of the other guys has the remnants of calamine lotion on his leg, which Vlad's foot had And two and
01:14:50
Speaker
Yeah, so he's just talking. and He keeps trying to make references to these guys for these guys and they're not getting any of them, which is funny because yeah like he is making a lot of references, but they do get the Emilio Estevez reference and he doesn't let them have it.
01:15:07
Speaker
That's true. And I feel like it's funny too because he's like, in some of the references, he almost feels like he's trying to play to them. Like he's trying to reference. Yeah, especially like later...
01:15:18
Speaker
He's like, I really thought you'd get that one. They just don't. Yeah. But then he like, so once he's content, he like hops out he's got flippers on. flippers freaking send me. I know. It's so funny. And then he's like, well, I've got to go take my steroid shot.
01:15:39
Speaker
Did I say that out loud?
01:15:43
Speaker
Oh, my God. It seems like a nut. Yeah, just a loon. Like, just an absolute lunatic. So we are jumping to the laundromat.
01:15:56
Speaker
Jules and Lassie have followed our phone number to yes, a a month locally locally grown laundromat.
01:16:08
Speaker
um Locally owned. That's where I was going. Locally owned laundromat. And um I love the little bit in the beginning where they have some like celebrity pictures on the wall. And of course, one of them is Chad.
01:16:21
Speaker
Which if you don't remember Sean. So good. And she's like I love Chad. I'm going to have his babies. yeah Sean. Short lived character on the tele-novella. Yes.
01:16:33
Speaker
So good. Honestly that I could see that that was like a headshot that he walked in and like met her and gave her. Oh yeah. um And Jules and Lassie start asking about Vlad, and we see someone around Vlad's age like walk out from the back, hear Vlad's name, and then runs into the distance. And of course, Jules and Lassie follow in hot pursuit.
01:17:01
Speaker
Lassie through the laundromat itself, Jules, around the back. And the chase is intense, but it is swift as Juliet comes around the corner with him at gunpoint, and they bring him into the station. This is none other than Sergei.
01:17:18
Speaker
something with a v i didn't catch the whole last name but sergey and vlad owes sergey money and sergey is just trying to you know just trying to make it like his american dream him and his wife want to open a fish store yes an aquarium store aquarium store that's the word that i was coming up with was aquarium and i'm like that a store?
01:17:48
Speaker
Yeah. And Sergei says he already has a bathtub full of koi fish. I freaking love that line. I already have a bathtub full of koi.
01:18:00
Speaker
Yes, I lent him money to get a fountain of spitting babies or whatever he says. Yeah, he's trying to get a fountain for the store.
01:18:11
Speaker
Yes. But he he is unfortunately running a bookie booking operation trying to save up. Yes. And so he did call Vlad because Vlad owed him money, but, you know, no hard feelings. They're friends.
01:18:27
Speaker
Yeah. He doesn't. He promises he didn't kill him. Yeah. Or cut off his foot or whatever. Yeah, yeah. And that's literally it. wait We never see Serenai again.
01:18:39
Speaker
Yeah. like Very quick side quest. And then we jump back to the stadium or the training camp where we see Gus hover technicking a massage over a man.
01:18:54
Speaker
Because there was a little bit before where Gus is like, I will not touch a man with these hands. The only person I touch is myself. He stopped dead in their tracks.
01:19:06
Speaker
He goes, let me say that again. Sean's like, nope, I think we should stop talking. stop that Please stop. ah So here he's hover technicking. He's refusing to massage this man.
01:19:18
Speaker
instead he's telling him about this you know wonderful ritual heat technique he learned um somewhere and uh you know think really hard and you'll feel it and i love that he then puts a lamp on this guy's back and the guy's like oh yeah i can feel it that's amazing yeah it's so funny so excited
01:19:43
Speaker
And then Sean comes and he asks Gus what he knows about poison oak, which of course is like everything that you could know about poison oak.
01:19:55
Speaker
That it only is on the West Coast and is extremely poisonous and very itchy. And Sean says that he saw possibly poison oak on Vince because of the calamine lotion that he noticed.
01:20:11
Speaker
And also that he noticed calamine lotion on the toes or something, under the toenails maybe? Yes. So he sees, like, on the one guy, the warrior guy, he saw, like, red.
01:20:23
Speaker
I don't know if it was, like, highlighted red in his mind or if it was actually red. Yeah, he Sean saw him itching. So I'm guessing whether or not we actually saw it, Sean just realized that, like, it was an itchy...
01:20:36
Speaker
Well, think he sees something because he sees the same thing on the foot in his mind.
01:20:43
Speaker
Like he sees like the red yeah area. huh Okay, so maybe it wasn't. I thought it was just like poison oak itself that he was seeing. Right, that would make sense.
01:20:53
Speaker
The rash. Yeah. But then he says later calamine lotion. So, don't know. I don't know. Something. He gets to the leap that um they would have needed to be around poison oak in order to put the calamine lotion on them.
01:21:12
Speaker
So they start thinking, or Gus mentions that they're like by fresh bodies of water. So Sean thinks about the lake that was nearby or that he had a cousin who had a beach house at or whatever. Beach house?
01:21:26
Speaker
Cabin? Well, don't think... That's how Jules and Lassie find it, I think. Oh, how does Sean find it?

Sean's Investigation and Police Interaction

01:21:34
Speaker
Well, Sean thinks about how the foot was found by hikers. there you go. There you go.
01:21:40
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So that it would need to be in a nearby fresh body of water. Yeah. And I think and maybe when they're getting there, Gus says that's the closest lake to the training facility or something.
01:21:52
Speaker
That would make sense.
01:21:55
Speaker
So they go over there, find the police. Sean puts some black face paint on to look impressive for Jules.
01:22:05
Speaker
Sean goes, how do we look? He says, like an idiot. Sean goes, sweet.
01:22:12
Speaker
And he does say, it looks like the cops got my message. So he thinks they're there on his tip. They are not. They actually pulled the body out of the water a couple hours ago.
01:22:24
Speaker
And this really throws Sean for a loop. This is now like the second time that the police have kind of beaten him to the punch.
01:22:38
Speaker
So it were. And um Lassie really doesn't doesn't hold any punches here. He's like, oh, what, Spencer? Like, no quick quip? Like, to you know, to come back at me? No no obscure 80s reference? Like, oh, so bad.
01:22:53
Speaker
and And Sean and Gus are just both, like, silent. Until, of course, like, five minutes later, Sean comes up with one as they're walking away about Lassie's hair.
01:23:04
Speaker
oh I love Gus's, like...
01:23:10
Speaker
So cute. Always so on board with it. Yeah. Whatever's happening. So they they head out and they're supposed to go to Henry's for an apology dinner,

Sean and Gus's Dangerous Encounter

01:23:20
Speaker
which very apt.
01:23:22
Speaker
um But they're not going again also. Yeah, because Sean didn't go camping yeah something. Yeah. Again, fair tracks tracks with them. So instead they go back to the stadium.
01:23:34
Speaker
And as they're like walking in, they essentially get kidnapped. like They get bags thrown over their heads. They're screaming. They get pulled out of the room. First time I watched this, I was like very scared for them. This episode has some scares.
01:23:47
Speaker
Yeah. Oh, no, definitely. They get brought up to the very, very top roof of the stadium. They're put right on the edge. And there are people in the background kind of shouting, you have two choices.
01:24:00
Speaker
Either step off or get pushed off. And I'm like, ah, no. and it is interesting because like Sean is sort of reacting to this as someone who does sort of end up in life-threatening situations.
01:24:15
Speaker
He's like, we're on the top of the stadium. Don't step forward. Like, I wonder how an actual player would react. That's a great yeah question. You know, because like they don't, they're like, we're in danger because we're investigating a murder right but like that's yeah uh it's yeah there's kind of a twist i'm sure that's got to be like super terrifying in any situation but i'm sure if you're not used to the but i also wonder like would they kind of oh no not to like know that they're being hazed like understand that it's not serious yeah
01:24:51
Speaker
I mean, i not, not that I've ever been through any like forms of hazing, but I feel like that's almost kind of part of it. That like, it's supposed to feel like it's serious and it's supposed to feel like it's scary. It's supposed to be like kind of traumatic.
01:25:08
Speaker
Yeah. No, it seems horrible. Yeah.

Team's Behavior Clause and Hazing

01:25:12
Speaker
But yeah. Thankfully they get stopped. shockingly it's matt and vince are two of our warriors who come out and are the voice of reason they're like don't blow this for us and all of our contracts you know let them go and some of the other football players you know back them up from where they're standing take off their the bags over there all laughs yeah oh they're like totally haha so funny and sean's like was this supposed to be a hazing
01:25:46
Speaker
You know, he's like, what is this, like college or whatever? And um this is where we get a lot of the information about the behavior clause and how if they don't, you know, kind of follow the particular policies of the team, then they will not be able to continue to play and to make the money on their contract.
01:26:05
Speaker
So the boys decide to go and stop by Sammy's place then. in en route to henry's house and they knock on the door henry's i guess to very very lately show up to ah not like you know what i mean l-a-t-e-l-t-y yeah because like 10 o'clock when they get to the stadium so it's not like past yeah yeah way past the time that they were supposed to be at henry's
01:26:39
Speaker
They show up and Henry's peeved, understandably. He likes to follow the rules. He likes people to be on time. And Sean's like, well, can we let him in? and it's Sammy. He asks, you have that ball that I got?
01:26:51
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Maybe the attic. Why? yeah because i want him to sign it. Yeah. Sammy comes into the doorway and and Henry's little eyes just so cute light up.
01:27:04
Speaker
Yeah. And then we see them tossing a ball on the porch and And Sammy's complimenting Henry's steak, which is like the easiest way to this man's heart. And they're talking a little bit about Sean. And I love the line of, I don't know if he's genius or totally full of it. and Henry goes, maybe he's a little bit of both. It's like, yeah, he is. You know, your son.
01:27:29
Speaker
Um, Yeah, it's all just, like, very sweet. They start to reminisce about all the times that they watched the Thunderbirds together and watched Sammy play and how they just, like, loved Sammy. And it was just very nice and wholesome.
01:27:45
Speaker
was very cute. And we do also learn in this scene, I think, i think this is when we learn about the contract, the clause, the behavior clause, and how...
01:27:58
Speaker
Serious it is that if the guys mess around, then he can cut them. Yeah. Which it seems like from watching the movie, which again is not like a fallible or it's not an infallible source of knowledge for football, but it seems like people kind of run out a year long contract and then at the end of that there's time for you know like swapping and switching and trading and and whatever um so here this could really put a wrench into people's plans just cutting mid-year and contracts can be like multi-year oh that's nice yeah little bit more stability yeah but then there's still like trades and stuff
01:28:49
Speaker
Which fits like within a contract? Yeah. I clearly don't know how any of this works. Yeah. People can definitely get shuffled around. mom But in this scenario, like they wouldn't get even just get traded. They would get cut.
01:29:06
Speaker
Right. They would just be goners.
01:29:12
Speaker
So then seems like we actually go to the stadium proper. We are no longer in training camp.
01:29:23
Speaker
We're now in the stadium proper. Because it looks like it's maybe more of like an enclosed oh dome kind of stadium. And...
01:29:35
Speaker
This is when Sean's just acting so like he's just so silly, like on the sidelines trying to be serious, but not really being serious. And we see kind of a lot of crazy stuff happen.
01:29:47
Speaker
Players start fighting on the field with one another. Tension is getting really high. Like you can tell that everything's kind of starting to. Yeah. And particularly with Matt and Vince. Yes.
01:29:58
Speaker
They're kind of, it seems like it's getting to them. All I have next is then, Jewel says that Vlad wasn't murdered.
01:30:12
Speaker
Oh, yeah. um And that his... Wait.
01:30:21
Speaker
Does she tell him that when he comes to the police station or is that later?
01:30:30
Speaker
because yeah she says that he wasn't murdered and his injuries are more consistent with the yeah police station automobile accident um and sean says there was no glass or anything um which

Unveiling the Truth about Vlad's Death

01:30:53
Speaker
is weird for an automobile accident certainly Sean then notices or remembers the keychain. so I guess they are at the station. my note Oh yeah, my note is Sean and Jules so flirty.
01:31:06
Speaker
Yeah, Sean says something about the the uniform and Jules is like, I didn't know that they made pads in an extra small. Is that now? yeah And then he sees the keys and he's like, where did these come from? And Jules says they're Vlad's.
01:31:25
Speaker
and he is Gus there for this yes yes okay I think that was why I was confused because I was imagining just them having like his pantry moment but I'm like I feel like Gus was an audience member for that joke yeah it didn't they the the camera shot was just okay Sean and then it pans and you see Gus and you're like okay um so yeah it says ORW on this like yeah beer opener and um sean i think we we see sean remember like um the maybe the band or like the injuries and the various things and the warrior stay and yeah um and he deduces that they're off-road people yes
01:32:22
Speaker
Because they like, we know, they like adventure and dangerous things. Yeah, so he starts riffing on the initials, older Republican walruses. Like, wait, everybody knows that walruses are libertarians. Yeah, that was so good.
01:32:36
Speaker
I think after a couple more, Gus is like, Sean.
01:32:42
Speaker
um Yeah, come on, be serious. um Off-road warriors. And then, like, And then maybe Jules says like ATVs and Gus is like ATVs don't have windshields. And yeah so they kind of figure out maybe potentially what went down here.
01:33:01
Speaker
Oh, this is kind of going into the next scene, but something we didn't mention when they went, well, there was like a running thing because it started in the first scene when Sean was talking about the signal he wanted.
01:33:12
Speaker
And, and, and then what about their badges? And they're like, you're not getting badges. yeah okay I'll set it for a gun um yeah and then later at the lake Jules gives him a cute little laminated yeah um thing that says like property of Santa Barbara police farm or something with Sean's picture and he's like isn't this the same thing you gave the guy that sells peanuts outside and then he's like except his actually says detective on it yeah
01:33:46
Speaker
ah So, yeah. So, ah Sean has received this ID. Yes. And, yeah. But now they have an idea of what's going on. And they decide, Sean and Gus decide to go back to the stadium.
01:34:00
Speaker
Yes. um And they're going to look through and the rest of the guys' lockers to find something that connect those guys to Val.
01:34:13
Speaker
Or Val. Val. Vlad. Telling you, um or Or the off-roading or something. Oh, I feel like, did we talk about the text on Vlad's phone?
01:34:27
Speaker
We did not. That's another thing. right ah reason The reason Lassie is so convinced it's Russian mob is because um there was a text on Vlad's phone ah that um said, like,
01:34:46
Speaker
that the time's up for you're dead or something like that um like a threatening text message yes um and part of sean's observations i think when they were just at the station because they're looking at the coroner's report um and the time of death was before that text was sent right so sean's like why would you text somebody you just killed and so it's looking like a cover-up yeah sketchy sketchy thinks it's those guys um and then they get to the locker room and gus is like looks like somebody beat us to it it being going through their lockers but it's not their lockers it's sean's and his badge is hanging there and it is chilling so good yeah that's the other like big scare like it's truly creepy yeah um
01:35:44
Speaker
and i'm like why did you come here when it's late it's dark out there's nobody around um silly although i guess later we do find out they head back so yes i guess he didn't anticipate maybe some running into these guys yeah um he also makes a comment oh because gus is like why did you even keep that and john's like it's my only form of id know I was like, oh, God, Sean, such a child. um
01:36:20
Speaker
And then those guys storm in. And, yeah,
01:36:26
Speaker
they just kind of have a confrontation. We start our, we get our little nut shelling. Mm-hmm. And smallpox wrapping up the wrap-up. What? What?
01:36:37
Speaker
The pox may be small, but... And the guy's like, hey! ah Like, come on. What's going on here? Yeah, and it turns out the whole thing was kind of an kind of and accident.
01:36:53
Speaker
Well, the death was an accident. and Right. And then the cover-up. Correct. Correct. well Well, it seems like they were under the influence, so... you know, still accidental, but they weren't maybe completely coherent in order to, like, make the best decisions, so... It was very irresponsible.
01:37:11
Speaker
Very irresponsible. There's a crash, Vlad falls off, not wearing a helmet, hits his head on a rock, foot oop comes off, and, uh,
01:37:24
Speaker
And yeah, Matt was the other one who got hit and that's why he has the rope burn on his arm. And and in this nutshell, like Sean, well, the guys are like sick of him playing them and then he says he's a psychic and they like think he's continuing to just mess with them.
01:37:49
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. um And then he has a vlad speaks from the dead yes and it's hard to understand him which i thought he was going to go with the lake thing but know it's because he has ritz bits in his mouth where do we get that from mean it's bit's delicious i understand but where yes um and and he can't yeah so he goes through the nut shelling and as he's doing this It is having it come from the victim or that dead the deceased, I feel like it adds a disarming quality to, like, who he's talking to. Because you can see the guys not Matt, but the other two guys are both kind of, like, freaked and kind of start to be, like, know he hit his head. Like, we didn't by the time we got to him, it was too late.
01:38:43
Speaker
Right. And Matt's like, shut up. yeah So in this, we see the dynamic here of this group that Matt is kind of calling the shots. And then that's where in the kind of flashback visuals of the events, we see Matt kind of telling them like, right. and How to do it and what to do. Yeah.
01:39:01
Speaker
Yeah. So he definitely seems like the guy and it's kind sad. Like even later when they're like grabbing Sean and Gus and stuff, like Matt doesn't even seem to be getting his hands dirty, really. Yeah.
01:39:13
Speaker
He's just,
01:39:16
Speaker
He's making these other guys do it. Yeah. I'm sad. I think they decide they're going to take him up to the roof.
01:39:32
Speaker
Or no. First, Sean and run.
01:39:36
Speaker
Yes. Yes. They run. we think they're going to get away. They're going so fast. It's what they've done all their training for. And then they turn a corner and they're guys are not winded at all because they knew about the elevator yeah yeah and that's yeah when they decide they're going to take him up to roof and make it look like a hazing accident and that's when sam comes around yeah and saves the day definitely one of those situations where you know kind of a moment and a choice um the choice yeah it's similar it's like this yeah
01:40:15
Speaker
This terrible thing happened.

Dramatic Conclusion and Arrests

01:40:17
Speaker
They decided cover it up. And then it just keeps getting bigger and bigger yeah and bigger. And so yeah now they have to kill Sean and Gus. Now they have to kill their coach. Right. they didn't plan for any of this, but they put themselves in this situation. And um then, luckily, Lassie and Jules are down on the level below and say, freeze!
01:40:42
Speaker
Yes. And then... The other officers come out of the into the room area that they're in. Yeah. So, phew! And John's like, do you think would have done any of this without backup? And it's like, I feel like you would have, but I'm glad you didn't.
01:40:59
Speaker
Yeah, you absolutely would have, but I'm happy someone's here.
01:41:05
Speaker
And yeah, then the last the last little thing we see is game day. And and Sean is in a uniform.
01:41:16
Speaker
not allowed to play. But he is allowed to run them out of the tunnel. ah yeah, because as they're wrapping Sammy Winslow tells him he's proud of them and stuff. and And Sean's like, seems like you're down a few players.
01:41:30
Speaker
Yeah, he's always trying. Sammy's like, no way. But yes, he does get to run the team in, which is his other dream. Yes.
01:41:42
Speaker
And I love that Gus went and got Jules to see it. So cute. Yeah. jewel like It's my day off. What do you guys want? yeah Which fair.
01:41:53
Speaker
Yeah. But then she is, she is very pleased. So cute. Yeah. Very cute. And they are like, I mean, and just looking how many episodes we have left. I know. She is on the precipice of taking that leap.
01:42:09
Speaker
the So close. I know. We'll really have to pay very close attention the next two episodes. See the yeah water a kindling. It's crazy because next episode normal episode.
01:42:24
Speaker
Episode after that, Tuesday the 17th. Oh, I forgot. And then it's Yang. And then it's Yang. Oh, yeah. Crazy. So, I mean, they definitely... have some like trauma bonding I guess in that episode oh my gosh yeah but but yeah I mean she's just looking like she looks smitten and she does yeah and she's smiling and then like her and Henry have this like a little smile oh and Henry's there too and he's so yeah he looks so proud watching Sean run like it's just so sweet all around and yeah just Gus like being invested enough in this
01:43:03
Speaker
Yeah. sea And Sean and Jules. I mean, was, I'm sure they plotted together to get her there, but. Yeah. I mean, even how cute. Being a good wingman. Yeah. And like. And actually getting her.
01:43:16
Speaker
You know, not telling her what it was until that perfect cinematic moment. Yeah. Yeah. It's just, it's delightful. Yeah. It was very good. Very nice. Very nice end to the episode. Yeah.
01:43:29
Speaker
But our next episode is Truer Lies. Yeah. Truer lies. Which I believe is Lion Ryan. Lion Ryan. This is a great episode. It's a great episode. And I feel like I always kind of think it's earlier.
01:43:44
Speaker
Yes. I thought we did it already. I know. i feel like in my brain it's closer to Tancana.
01:43:54
Speaker
I don't know why. Yeah. I mean, it's like this... episode two like it has an early psych feel where it's like you kind of yeah put it anywhere yes i feel that but i guess we'll see if we're wrong yeah if there's any like really serial moments in there yeah and and i guess it being know like that normal episode and then we have like two real heavy hitters at the end of the season yeah um yeah but it's also it's a great like
01:44:27
Speaker
sean character episode as he kind of confronts his own status as a liar yes i love this like mini reckoning he has to go yeah maybe that's why it feels like we've talked about already because in some ways we have yes i mean but we just haven't gotten to the actual episode yeah yeah
