Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris ride with Johnny Blaze and discuss Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, as Nicolas Cage returns as a live-action superhero in Prime Video's Spider-Noir.

The follow-up to 2007's Ghost Rider and the second (and final) movie under the Marvel Knights banner, Cage returns as Johnny Blaze, cursed with the demonic Ghost Rider inside of him.  He's hiding out in Eastern Europe but gets pulled into a mission to save a young boy, Danny (Fergus Riordan), from Roarke (Ciaran Hinds), aka Mephisto, the demon lord who made the deal that cursed Johnny.  Along with Roarke, Johnny is up against Carrigan (Johnny Whitworth), a mercenary who is transformed into the supernatural Blackout and can cause things to decay with his touch.  Zach and Chris discuss the over-the-top Nicolas Cage performance, the massive hell-powered excavator, Idris Elba's wacky French accent, the movie's many awkward moments (like the Penance Stare), and more.

You can rent/buy Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance on Prime Video and Apple TV.  Next week, we head to Eternia to discuss the original Masters of the Universe movie as the new movie from Travis Knight hits theaters.

Introduction to the Podcast

00:00:19
Zach Sheets
Hello and welcome to the Everything Action Cats podcast week of May 25th, 2026.

Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance Overview

00:00:24
Zach Sheets
I'm your Zach.
00:00:25
Chris Prime
I'm co-host, Chris.
00:00:27
Zach Sheets
And this week we were riding with Ghost Rider and talking about the second Ghost Rider movie, Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance, because Nicholas K is back as a live action superhero since Spirit Vengeance came out with a Spider Noir.
00:00:39
Zach Sheets
on Prime Video, which I've seen the first two episodes of it. I think thought it's pretty awesome so far. It's kind of like it's a super fun kind of the war It's basically what you would expect from that character from the first Spider-Verse movie.

Nicolas Cage and Crank Directors Collaboration

00:00:54
Zach Sheets
But yeah, back in 2011, technically, I guess, but really 2012, Nicolas Cage is back as Johnny Blaze and teamed up with the guys made Crank, Devlin and Taylor, which seems like the perfect kind of pairing for Nicolas Cage to unleash his like full like insanity.
00:01:12
Chris Prime
Yeah, it's definitely like if you had to find the perfect combo actor and directors for a, like, just no nonsense or like a full non- actually, sorry, a full nonsense, like,
00:01:29
Chris Prime
I don't know, like comic movie. it It made sense. But like an execution, it they just made like

Critique of Plot and Drama

00:01:39
Chris Prime
skits together. Like it's it's a movie of ski of like almost like Marvel, like scenery shots stitched together with only like one plot line throughout the whole movie. And there's no.
00:01:54
Chris Prime
There's no like drama. It just sort of like this one giant chase for the whole movie.
00:02:00
Zach Sheets
Yeah, like, they had ideas for, like, scenes, or, like, we need a scene where Ghost Rider's, like, pissing fire.

Budget Constraints Impact

00:02:09
Zach Sheets
How do we fit that into the movie? Or we want scene where he gets in different vehicles and turns them into, like, hell vehicles. How do we, like, write those scenes? Yeah.
00:02:17
Chris Prime
And it's not like the people who wrote this were new. like In fact, David Goyer like wrote the story. But he comes from a very comic book world. So he probably had like a vision...
00:02:29
Chris Prime
how the story structured should be. And then he handed it off to like the other guys. And then they went, okay, well let's make, i don't know, Johnny go to the hospital.
00:02:39
Chris Prime
Then let's make Johnny go to like a cult monk monastery. Like, and it's like, well, what does that, does that change the beat of the movie?
00:02:44
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:02:48
Chris Prime
It's like, no, it's just more like stops along the way.
00:02:52
Zach Sheets
Well, they also had to figure out what they could do with like half the budget of the first movie.
00:02:57
Chris Prime
And that's like what is another problem. It's like they they really just wanted to make probably more an outlandish movie.

Pacing and Tension Issues

00:03:05
Chris Prime
But whoever decided to just rent that giant landmass digger that like thing that should have been the first thing because it's not it's the it's the biggest selling point.
00:03:11
Zach Sheets
The
00:03:16
Chris Prime
And i remember like leading up to this was like check out this like machine that's real.
00:03:21
Zach Sheets
the the hell excavator.
00:03:21
Chris Prime
And yeah, and then it's like okay, so, like, is that like the end of the movie? And then you find out that's, like, in the middle of the movie. And you're like, what's what's gonna happen after this?
00:03:33
Zach Sheets
yeah like the movies like barely started at that point.
00:03:37
Chris Prime
And it's, like, it's the second fight, I think. It's, like, the second or third fight. And, like, real fight.
00:03:41
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:03:42
Chris Prime
Not just Nick Cage pushing people.
00:03:43
Zach Sheets
yeah
00:03:46
Chris Prime
So... Yeah, that that... Like, they kind of wrote this movie backwards. Or, like, they, like, were trying to glue two different... parts of a movie where if you're going to have that be your like middle where you have this like really big set piece and crazy like visuals that you know you lean into the the like comic where it's like now you can kind of play with like you know a sense of like reality and then nick cage just i don't know scream on set and then figure out what to do with that after that like post production work uh at least have like a finisher that
00:04:15
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.

Source Material and Themes

00:04:24
Chris Prime
matches that or tops it. like There's no escalation. And then that's the problem is that like superhero movies now have like a beat where like you have to keep escalating to the end. That's usually how comics get to where it's like, you know, the like first few issues, the first two issues in any comic series of like a miniseries or whatnot, like they're not going to reveal the big thing. It's a lot of like build up.
00:04:48
Chris Prime
But in this movie, if they're going to mimic more of a comic, they pretty much introduce all the characters you would ever need to know by like the end of the first act.

PG-13 Rating Critique

00:04:59
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:05:00
Chris Prime
And then it's like, what now? like who Who else can we have for Nick Cage to like have like a moment of doubt or... like the big bad, like beats him up or something. it it If anything, it's just like they, because your Lambert came across this and went, okay, yeah, whatever Chris wants, like, we go we're going we're going to add a side plot, which doesn't really add anything. Like you could skip that whole chunk of that movie. the movie still makes sense from like the first part.
00:05:32
Zach Sheets
Well, apparently the movie it's it's based on, or i guess i guess loosely based on like a Garth Ennis run on Ghost Rider, like Ghost Rider Road to Damnation.

Influence of Crank Directors

00:05:41
Chris Prime
I mean, he probably just tried to get rid of his ghost powers.
00:05:45
Chris Prime
i mean't happen I mean, it happens once in a while. Every superhero almost tries to give up being a superhero, but Gianni's, he's always been like trying to get off this curse because he got tricked, so he's more mad about being tricked.
00:05:59
Zach Sheets
It's also it's also a weird, you know speaking Garth Ennis quick, like it's weird that like this movie is where toea their teen when is rated P13.

Nicolas Cage's Performance

00:06:08
Zach Sheets
It's the second and last movie under the Marvel Knights logo, which you know we talked about earlier this month, Punisher Warzone, which is like absurdly radar, over-the-top violence.
00:06:19
Chris Prime
earns that Marvel Knights logo.
00:06:23
Zach Sheets
And then this one's like, oh, it's P13.
00:06:26
Chris Prime
Well, okay, to be fair, i think that's because they do a little more adult situations than most Marvel movies were comfortable doing. For example, when the the mom tries to trick a guy to like rob him, or pretend to be like a prostitute,
00:06:46
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:06:47
Chris Prime
And that's it. Like, that's where, like, oh, yeah, Marvel Knights. Like, let's just add that to it. Otherwise, it's like a boilerplate, like, like, uh, uh, Marvel, like, TV show movie.
00:06:53
Zach Sheets
But also...
00:07:02
Zach Sheets
But you also hired the guys to make Crank.
00:07:04
Chris Prime
And you turn them to PG-13.
00:07:06
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:07:08
Chris Prime
Like, they they saw Crank 2 and went, yeah, let's do that, but for kids.
00:07:12
Zach Sheets
And they will they're they're coming off Gamer. That was like the movie they did before this.
00:07:17
Chris Prime
Yeah, I could see. i could see that.
00:07:20
Zach Sheets
and I feel like i mean they're trying to inject like their style into this as but as much as they can.
00:07:25
Chris Prime
Oh, they do.
00:07:27
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:07:27
Chris Prime
It's like so many, so many like yeah how he mentioned in Speed Racer how they hit every kind of like crazy filter and button to try to like just seem very appealing to kids and and like trying to alter that like sense of like whimsy where it's like, see, we're just like the cartoon.

Ghost Rider's Powers and Inconsistencies

00:07:46
Chris Prime
it makes it seem like Ghost Rider is also like on a mushroom trip half the time in this movie because they're like, well, Nick Cage is like unhinged, but it's like he doesn't really have a drug problem.
00:07:51
Zach Sheets
Yes.
00:08:00
Chris Prime
He's got a demon problem, but they treat it as if it's like a drug problem.
00:08:04
Zach Sheets
Well, he does have a very, like, Crank-esque scene where, like, he wakes the hospital and he's trying to, like, find all the drugs. He's like, give me morphine. Give me, like, whatever you got. Give me the painkillers.
00:08:17
Chris Prime
yeah But yeah, I think that's it. Like out of that. But then he still has like freak out moments where that point it's just like, I think they let Nick Cage just do this. He's like, hey can I just have this scene for me? And they're like, yeah, sure.
00:08:29
Zach Sheets
let i mean I think that's like the the guiding principle of this movie is just like let Nicolas Cage cook. like Whatever Nicolas Cage you wants to do in the scene, just let him do it.
00:08:39
Zach Sheets
And it's also it's also very, like, he he's treating it more like the Hulk, where it's like it's he's trying to like keep his alter this alter ego from like coming out. and He's trying like he has like trying to repress it and like keep it contained.
00:08:52
Zach Sheets
But then if he unleashes it, it's like he can't control it
00:08:54
Chris Prime
Well, you don't only unleash it at night, which is, i think, like...
00:08:57
Zach Sheets
Also weird.
00:08:59
Chris Prime
i mean I think, but that's, like, what it was in the original Ghost Rider. Like, the Rider comes out at night. Like, that's why Ghost Rider work during the day. And then later on in this in the lore, like, ghost you can be a Ghost Rider, like, any time.
00:09:13
Chris Prime
It's not so much like a werewolf-hulk thing, where it's like, oh, no, it's night.
00:09:15
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:09:17
Chris Prime
The Rider comes out, or... you made me mad and now I can't stop burning from fire, which they did in the first movie.
00:09:27
Zach Sheets
Yeah, well, at night and in the presence of evil, that's when he turns to the Ghost Rider.
00:09:32
Zach Sheets
But then I... but then Yep. and yeah And apparently most people are evil because like everyone's done something somewhat bad. So then Stigl's right. Just doesn't... Like, Zarathos doesn't care.
00:09:32
Chris Prime
And it sucks because he he was in New York and that's a lot of people.
00:09:49
Zach Sheets
Like, the degree of evil is just like, you're evil. I'm going suck your soul out.
00:09:53
Chris Prime
Well, yeah, it's like, oh, did you download illegal music? Like, I'm gonna...
00:09:58
Zach Sheets
Yeah, that's...
00:09:58
Zach Sheets
that's
00:09:58
Chris Prime
I'm gonna vengeful, like, spirit of vengeance you.
00:10:02
Zach Sheets
that's Yeah, that's one of the things that in like the Nicolas Cage like voiceovers to kind of explain what the hell's going on. That doesn't explain anything.
00:10:11
Chris Prime
it It's... It, like, it really summarizes the, like, just generic parts of Ghost Rider. And then this is, from but the thing is, like, Ghost Rider isn't, like, a character that a lot of people knew. Like, he wasn't a household superhero.
00:10:29
Chris Prime
And then i guess people that enjoyed the first movie saw this to say, okay, I'll give the sequel a shot or, like, I didn't mind. But critically, it was, like, everyone didn't like how this movie turned out.
00:10:43
Chris Prime
Like, a lot of the reviews at the time were saying that it it's just, like, It's a lot of fluff and nothing really happened.
00:10:52
Zach Sheets
yeah
00:10:53
Chris Prime
And I agree now just because like when first saw this, I was in the right mood. I was like, hey, had a beer in me. I'm like, just like, I don't care. I like a Nicolas Cage freak out. Yeah, but you kind of want some substance. You kind of want, I don't know, like a little bit of.
00:11:12
Chris Prime
Like depth. I mean, because he basically gets what he wants and then goes, oh, I don't want this at all. In fact.
00:11:19
Zach Sheets
yeah
00:11:20
Chris Prime
And then you find out more about the ghost inside and you're like, oh, actually, the ghost inside gets better. Like like it's a better story.
00:11:28
Zach Sheets
and then And the the the extremely like easy way to like i guess like to like save or like make the like demon inside you like not it like cure you of your demon is like admit very... make a simple confession and you're cured.
00:11:44
Chris Prime
Well, this this movie does have that religious overtone that if you confess your sins, you'll be free and you can basically be reborn. it's just It's just like a very convoluted way to get there.
00:11:57
Chris Prime
but that's that's But the Taylor Nevideen method is to get always convoluted.
00:11:57
Zach Sheets
it's like...
00:12:01
Zach Sheets
but i do I love how like it's like you need to confess your du is the darkest secret only and you know. and it's like when i When I wanted my dad to be not sick, I was actually doing it for me. i was i was being selfish. It's like, alright, good. That's your darkest sin. That's the darkest thing you've ever done, Johnny Cage.
00:12:18
Zach Sheets
or yeah
00:12:18
Chris Prime
but but Like that, like he he wanted. He wanted his father not to die. i know, but like it wasn't like he wanted to become Ghost Rider.
00:12:28
Zach Sheets
But then
00:12:30
Chris Prime
He just didn't want his dad to pass away from cancer.
00:12:33
Zach Sheets
But then it's like, oh, my dad actually was like, he accepted it. But then I was selfish to want him to keep his life.
00:12:38
Chris Prime
Want him to live.
00:12:39
Zach Sheets
Yeah. And then he died.
00:12:40
Chris Prime
Yeah, don't think that's super selfish. i It's like. It's not a crazy confession.
00:12:47
Zach Sheets
And then I guess he still died in and like the horrible, like he did like a stunt and died horribly.
00:12:53
Chris Prime
The dad? No, the dad died from cancer.
00:12:56
Zach Sheets
oh still, yeah.
00:12:58
Chris Prime
That's what happened. like The dad never died. He was already a stuntman, apparently.
00:13:03
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:13:03
Chris Prime
And then that's why he made the deal with the devil. And that's why he couldn't die. Because it's like, well, I own your soul. I'll tell you when you die.
00:13:12
Chris Prime
I think in the comic, too, it's like the same thing. His dad got sick and he's like, okay. But then it's like, his dad I don't know if his dad was already a stuntman or he's a former stuntman, but they really don't they gloss over that.
00:13:25
Chris Prime
And depending which version, if you think about the original Ghost Rider movie when it was like a younger Johnny, and then it's like, I gotta leave by.
00:13:32
Zach Sheets
Yep. Mm-hmm.
00:13:35
Chris Prime
And like he doesn't even act like Nick Cage. It's like he became the Nick Cage type over time.
00:13:43
Zach Sheets
Yeah, and so in yeah and the first and the first one, he yeah he makes a deal to cure his father's cancer, but then his his father dies. So he doesn't have cancer anymore, but he dies in like a horrible stunt accident.
00:13:54
Chris Prime
Right, but in this one they don't mention that.
00:13:56
Zach Sheets
it's it's all Yeah, it's it's just cancer, and then it's like, now you're the ghostwriter.
00:14:02
Chris Prime
But I think, I don't know if we're supposed to like accept the first movie as like canonical, or it's like sort of its own reboot.
00:14:10
Zach Sheets
I mean, it's still Nicolas Cage, but it's it's so completely different in tone and in acting style and visuals from the first one that it kind of feels like its own like reboot.
00:14:20
Chris Prime
Yeah.
00:14:22
Chris Prime
so
00:14:22
Zach Sheets
Do you think, because this is a Marvel Knights, do you think this is in the same universe as, like, Punisher Warzone?
00:14:27
Chris Prime
I wouldn't mind that.
00:14:29
Zach Sheets
i could I could see it, because Punisher Warzone is also, like, this level of crazy. like Like, I could see this guy...
00:14:33
Chris Prime
I actually don't... i Right. so that's like it It does capture the comic well. But unlike Warzone, where it's like so overloaded, and then it's such a... like whimsical world they establish where, like, you it doesn't need to make sense. You're you're just there to have fun.
00:14:52
Chris Prime
i try that same mentality in this one, but I'm just so distracted that basically... this world is just like highways and then like construction sites and then like rundown Romanian like architecture.
00:15:01
Zach Sheets
Yep.
00:15:06
Chris Prime
Like that, that's what I'm saying. like it's not as eye catching as like war zone was where it was basically just like a souped up version of Toronto.
00:15:17
Zach Sheets
With like yeah with with like the colored lighting and all the all the like angles and visuals that make interesting, like comic book-like.
00:15:20
Chris Prime
hmm.
00:15:24
Chris Prime
here it's just like the the like whatever was left over set from gamer that they just like filmed in so that's when you said like they filmed this right after gamer it's like I believe it like they they literally were just like okay let's take like all the old cameras and some of the stunt crew and then like put them in this ghostwriter movie and i would have been like it's just the same like in that same kind of like shaky cam like very rough filmmaking that feels very amateur but like you know, they probably intentionally made it to look this rough.
00:15:59
Chris Prime
And I don't mind that. Like, honestly, that's so in a certain mood, totally down for it. But if you're in for a, hey, let's watch a movie that's like stands on its own without that pre pretense of like, you have to forgive it.
00:16:14
Chris Prime
It's hard.
00:16:16
Chris Prime
Especially maybe because I'm not on the mood. And I was like more, I would rather watch Spider-Man Noir.
00:16:23
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:16:24
Chris Prime
You know, so when my mind was reset for that, then I'm like, no, no, no. Let's see where like Cage really got his like... He's allowed to just be Cage and then we'll figure out in post how to do it.
00:16:36
Chris Prime
i think what I think in the first movie, he probably was more restraint, but not in this version. This is the like this is the Nick Cage definitely went on a bender and then...
00:16:41
Zach Sheets
Oh, yeah.
00:16:46
Chris Prime
Or or whatever like accountant voodoo witch doctor he was believing. He's...
00:16:52
Zach Sheets
He had to pay off his...
00:16:52
Chris Prime
he's a
00:16:53
Zach Sheets
He was still trying pay off his Triceratops skull or whatever he bought and his pyramid tomb in New Orleans.
00:17:00
Chris Prime
So like this feels like that, like he gives it as all, but it's more like he wants to be known memorably for scenes, not so much the movie, just certain scenes because people go rough because that's another thing to like you can watch this move this this movie just for the scenes and just jump around and that's it. You don't actually need to watch it as like a story unfolding.
00:17:20
Zach Sheets
Oh, yeah. just just Just clips of Nicolas Cage is like going in nuts. That's thing this movie has going for it.
00:17:31
Chris Prime
And I think at the time, if you have to appreciate like filmmaking, I think in order to like see how some of the insane shots they filmed were like just the like handheld cam holding like like Taylor and everything, like like holding on to cars like their guerrilla style filmmaking.
00:17:51
Chris Prime
I appreciate
00:17:51
Zach Sheets
Okay, yeah, this is, like, some great, like, behind-the-scenes footage, if you want to see them, like, you know, they're trademarked rollerblades, like, one of them's on rollerblades, like, being pulled behind a car, or, like, I think, I forget which one jumped off the cliff with, like, Idris Elba.
00:18:06
Zach Sheets
Like, they got, like, that that opening shot, where, like, he's, like, flying off the cliff. Like, one of the...
00:18:11
Chris Prime
Can mention that Idris Elba is in this movie? like it's It's a crazy thing, because I think at this time, he was he was coming off of Luther, the t the BBC show, and I knew of him from that.
00:18:14
Zach Sheets
Yes! Mm-hmm.
00:18:23
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:18:24
Chris Prime
And then maybe some people knew of him from The Wire. And then...
00:18:29
Zach Sheets
Yeah, that was that was his this is two big things, was like the Wire and Luther. And now it's like, and it's like oh, now he's an alcoholic French monk?
00:18:38
Chris Prime
And then it's like, he's got golden eyes for some reason.
00:18:43
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:18:44
Chris Prime
Which they don't bring up. They're just like, oh, he's a drunk monk that is also very deadly with a gun.
00:18:45
Zach Sheets
He
00:18:49
Zach Sheets
he has no special powers. He's not like a superhero. He's just like a, like, is His power is alcoholism.
00:18:56
Chris Prime
And it doesn't, like, and it's get luck, and then, like, he's good at what he does, but it it doesn't quite,
00:18:57
Zach Sheets
and And like luck.
00:19:06
Chris Prime
like line up because it's when i looked at him now i thought he was the same outfit he was wearing in uh the dark tower like it's like very similar dust to yeah the gunslinger i was like oh is that the same outfit does he shoot from his heart not with his eyes
00:19:15
Zach Sheets
Yeah. The gunslinger.
00:19:26
Zach Sheets
He also, like, his main ability does seem, like, he see seems to be able to find people, like, super, like, wherever they are. Like, he's just, like like, it's, like, oh, I found you guys. I found Johnny Blaze. I found you. It's, like, or, like, oh, like, you're driving this highway in Turkey. I found, like, you're, you guys, like, Danny and Johnny and Nadia. I found you guys, like, right at me on the street on my motorcycle.
00:19:51
Zach Sheets
Like, you he's so he just, like, knows where the like everyone is at any point and just, like, right up to them. and be Like, hey, it's me, Moreau.
00:19:51
Chris Prime
Oh, you got a point.
00:19:58
Chris Prime
it would have been cool It would have been cool if he also was sort of like more of a dark occultist monk where his specialty was like observing and kind of neutralizing like super evil.
00:19:58
Zach Sheets
go to drink some wine.
00:20:12
Chris Prime
Like that's why you know, he's more of like a Van Helsing.
00:20:16
Zach Sheets
yeah we like or like a like a Constantine or something.
00:20:18
Chris Prime
Yeah, yeah. But he we don't we get nothing from him. we We basically understand his job is to show up and tell people to join him. And he's got like a very like jovial nature with everyone until it's time to fight.
00:20:31
Chris Prime
Then he's like very intense.
00:20:34
Zach Sheets
he's also He's a member of like that like this like secret religious order, but he doesn't that he doesn't dress like them. Because everyone else is like very traditional like monks in like robes.
00:20:44
Chris Prime
about the beginning part or the middle part?
00:20:46
Zach Sheets
I mean, the beginning are just like... It's weird because there's two different groups, too, it seems like. There's like the guy the guys at the beginning, and then the Christopher Ellen and Bear-led guys who are all like covered in tattoos and are like the the more like extremist monks, I guess.
00:21:02
Chris Prime
I think that's the difference is that like, A, extremist monks don't seem like they have much diversity. And then B, the first group just had no protection. They're just like, we hang out.
00:21:15
Chris Prime
We have no doors that lock.
00:21:18
Zach Sheets
Well, seems like they had they had security guys. Because they had like the the guys like the guys in like black outfits were theirs, but then like the like Rourke's and Kerrigan's mercenary guys showed up and like attacked like the the monastery.
00:21:35
Zach Sheets
But the monastery had like their own like security force, but they were getting overwhelmed.
00:21:39
Chris Prime
Okay. Because I figured they'd have more of like Idris Elba kind of guys, where it's like they're more warrior priests or whatever.
00:21:43
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:21:46
Zach Sheets
who
00:21:47
Chris Prime
But they don't.
00:21:49
Zach Sheets
the The whole opening is just like, they just throw you in It's like, oh, no Johnny Blaze. And also you just have figure out what the hell going on with Idris Elba and like this woman and her son getting like hunted down by mercenaries who burst into this like a monastery.
00:22:07
Chris Prime
Again, like I had hopes because that wasn't bad. It was it was chaotic. It's what you want from, like crank directors.
00:22:16
Zach Sheets
Yeah, you get you get that you get that awesome shot of flying off his motorcycle off a cliff shooting backwards.
00:22:22
Chris Prime
Yep. And then you're like...
00:22:22
Zach Sheets
It was like in all the trailers.
00:22:23
Chris Prime
and Yeah, that was before the the title screen shows up.
00:22:27
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:22:27
Chris Prime
So, again... All in. Ready to see Ghost Rider do the same thing. And then you just don't get to that same level. That same degree of like. Excitement.
00:22:38
Chris Prime
Because it's just a CGI. Like fireman.
00:22:43
Zach Sheets
I do love... like so It's like... It's just was flying off a cliff. It's like, oh, he's dead. like This is like his last like his like his last action. like like Taking out this like car. They cut to him like driving up on a motorcycle to Johnny Blaze. be like Hey!
00:22:57
Zach Sheets
I found you, Johnny Blaze. I need your help. It's like...
00:22:59
Chris Prime
Well, no, he he doesn't. I think he just knocks on Johnny's door.
00:23:02
Zach Sheets
Yeah. But it's like...
00:23:03
Chris Prime
He's like, I made it It's like, where was that versus this? Like, was this at the bottom of the hill?
00:23:08
Zach Sheets
Yeah, there's a but it's like a joke of like, oh, he and ended up by upside down in a tree he got saved. When he flew up the cliff, like he got saved by a tree.
00:23:18
Zach Sheets
it's such a jarring... Didn't we see him flying... There was like no way he could save himself. like He was just like going off this like massive mountainside cliff.
00:23:27
Chris Prime
Unless he ends up in a classic, like, bale of hay or something.
00:23:31
Zach Sheets
Yep. A pillow truck on the bus it's like driving down the road and be below them.
00:23:36
Zach Sheets
and then so And then somehow he knows all about like Johnny Blaze and the Ghost Rider and everything.
00:23:40
Chris Prime
Yeah, why didn't he go to that first? Why didn't he find him first and then do this? Maybe if he stops drinking, he'd figure out, like, the ro routine, like, the better, like, myth, uh, like, tactic.
00:23:54
Chris Prime
Because Johnny was, like, not aware of the child. Like, the and then what's going on. It just, I had to show him a photo, and somehow that was enough for Johnny to, like, be concerned.
00:24:05
Zach Sheets
it's he's like a He's like a bloodhound. like he shows in the photo and triggers his scent to find
00:24:14
Chris Prime
See, it was one thing if they were both sensing Danny, like Idris from his like hunter sense and then Johnny from his ghostwriter sense. So like they meet up or they team up.
00:24:27
Chris Prime
But the fact that Idris can, you're right, like find everybody like there's and there's no like magic tool or some sort of like ceremony. He goes, oh, I just know where to be at any point.
00:24:38
Zach Sheets
I just ride my motorcycle around and drink some wine. I find whoever i need to find.
00:24:44
Zach Sheets
oui. But
00:24:46
Zach Sheets
yeah. the The first action scene with Ghost Rider, though. We should about that. Because like...
00:24:54
Chris Prime
Oh, yeah.
00:24:55
Zach Sheets
but So, like, yeah, so Idris Elf's like, yeah, you gotta find his kid. And then, so, and then Johnny turns into Ghost Rider and then, like, hunts him down. And they're being, like, they're captured by Kerrigan, who's, like, this mercenary, hired by Rourke, who's actually...
00:25:11
Zach Sheets
i mean, Wikipedia says he's Mephisto. They never say he's Mephisto, but best that's who he's supposed to be in this universe.
00:25:15
Chris Prime
They don't openly say it.
00:25:19
Zach Sheets
And then, yeah, Ghost Rider shows up, and... he really takes really takes his time like attacking like these guys. like He does a lot of like just standing around, posing, like swaying to... It seems like the music he only he can hear.
00:25:37
Zach Sheets
like i mean, this is...
00:25:39
Chris Prime
See, it wouldn't be so weird if they just quickly edit it where it was like, you know, attack a guy, then strike a pose, then move on to the next thing.
00:25:40
Zach Sheets
this
00:25:50
Chris Prime
It's like, there's this definite, like, break.
00:25:54
Zach Sheets
They linger on it. they'd like they They let Nicolas Cage just do his thing for a little bit too long.
00:25:59
Chris Prime
I think if he did the dance at the beginning as if he's like getting ready to rev up for the fight, or it's like a a small distraction so he can call something or like set something else on fire, fine.
00:26:05
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:26:10
Chris Prime
you know But he literally dances to no music, and then it's like it cuts to him just like jerky walking to someone to scream at them.
00:26:21
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:26:22
Chris Prime
So... like There's no there was it feels like they just really let the camera run and there was no direction. So Nick Cage was like, just let me have this.
00:26:33
Chris Prime
Let me do this This would be so cool. You'll see.
00:26:36
Zach Sheets
Well, i think what probably happened is that Nicolas Cage on set is in crazy face paints. And he's probably doing over-the-top facial expressions and screaming and doing all all kinds of like acting stuff. And then in the movie, it's the Ghost Rider skull that's less emotive. It's not Nicolas Cage in face paint. So it's like it's less interesting.
00:27:03
Zach Sheets
in the movie version than like Nicolas Cage on set.
00:27:08
Chris Prime
I think if they just put eyebrows on the skeleton, we have some sort of expression besides mouth open, mouth closed.
00:27:12
Zach Sheets
its but Yeah.
00:27:17
Chris Prime
Also, I think he's he go this Ghost Rider talks more than the first movie.
00:27:23
Zach Sheets
He says he's a couple like one-liners stuff, but it's not a lot. It's a lot of just like, you know silent acting, but it's like you only do so much with like a skull.
00:27:33
Zach Sheets
A skull can only emote so much.
00:27:36
Chris Prime
It
00:27:37
Zach Sheets
I think definitely the most awkward thing in that first sequence is he he does the pennant stare to one guy, but it's just it's just him holding the guy's face for like a super awkward extended length time and like nothing seems to be happening.
00:27:54
Chris Prime
it makes it seem like... Like...
00:27:57
Zach Sheets
so Is he going make out with him? Like, what the hell is on?
00:27:58
Chris Prime
Yeah, or or this guy is so afraid he just can't get the words out.
00:27:59
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:28:04
Chris Prime
But like I said, it lingers. And I don't know if Nick Cage on set was just making a bunch of mouth gestures. And they're like oh, we got to figure out how to do this. But all it is is like, let's just open that mouth and then don't even like have it do that like hinge jaw swing to make it seem like it's cackling or whatever.
00:28:25
Chris Prime
it's It's just awkward. It looks like it looked like the scene froze.
00:28:26
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:28:29
Chris Prime
you know if the The flames weren't moving, like but they just hold each other for like way longer than you want.
00:28:36
Zach Sheets
Well, anita it's it's missing like some sort of like energy sucked out of that guy, or like the guy's like eyes like turning to flames or burning up or something.
00:28:43
Chris Prime
Burning.
00:28:45
Zach Sheets
It's just it's just nothing really happens. like it it's just like He holds his face for like five minutes, and then like he just burns at the end of it randomly. It's like, oh, I let him go, and he burned to death now.
00:28:55
Chris Prime
Yeah, but we don't know if that's from the stair or just Nick Cage is bumping him.
00:28:59
Zach Sheets
Yeah, because he just... he Later on, you like he like punches the guy, the guy bursts into flames. like If he just like touches the guy, they get burst into flames.
00:29:07
Chris Prime
I don't know if the stair did anything then.
00:29:09
Zach Sheets
yeah it needed like I feel like in his like one of the voiceovers, like it shows him like sucking out some sort of energy from like a guy. but then in that scene, there's nothing happening.
00:29:22
Chris Prime
Yeah, they're like they don't follow up with it. And then they don't really explain the penance stare too well, besides just the beginning says he can find your soul. But it's like, does it burn you?
00:29:35
Chris Prime
the Does the penance stare put you in a coma like it does in the like the storylines?
00:29:42
Zach Sheets
It was in the first movie. like He did penitent stairs people in the first movie. I feel it was like it was like done a little bit better than this one
00:29:48
Chris Prime
Well, because they showed you like results. They showed you basically a little bit of the ghostwriter like having some red dots in his eyes and then the person slumped over mumbling to himself and then like their eyes kind of burning out.
00:30:02
Zach Sheets
Well, I think, and you and you also you also saw, like, what, the what like, Ghost Rider, like, he looks and sees, like, the worst thing they they do they've done, and then they're kind like, yeah, and then, like, like it's like they're kind of like, trapped in that, like, moment forever.
00:30:08
Chris Prime
Yeah, yeah. He sees the evil.
00:30:14
Chris Prime
Hell.
00:30:15
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:30:16
Chris Prime
that's like That's what the pen and Sarah is like. You relive the worst aspect of your...
00:30:20
Zach Sheets
you experienced You experience, well i think you experience the pain that you've caused others to, like, so, like, like everyone that you've hurt, like, you you experience all their pain at, like, the same time.
00:30:31
Chris Prime
But we don't get that at all here. like We don't know that.
00:30:34
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:30:34
Chris Prime
That's something you have to know from the comics or the first movie, but this is not an easy one to like walk into.
00:30:43
Chris Prime
Like, he didn't even explain, like, usually in a movie like that, someone not from his world has that explained to them. Like, this would have been him explaining it to, like, Idris Elba, the boy, the mom.
00:30:57
Chris Prime
But, nah, he just does his thing, and then it's like, alright, you got that audience, did you get it? Alright, cool, we're moving on.
00:31:05
Zach Sheets
yeah he'll he might He might awkwardly hold your face and then you'll you burst into flames at some point. And then he's he stopped by like a gun.
00:31:16
Zach Sheets
it like He gets shot and then like is like
00:31:17
Chris Prime
Yeah, like a powerful grenade launcher.
00:31:20
Zach Sheets
and then he ends in the hospital. But then later on, i mean the next action sequence, he's like taking bunker buster missiles and not it's not affecting him at all. So there's like a weird just's like a weird like damage level thing going on too where it's like there it's not it's super inconsistent with what can hurt him or not.
00:31:39
Chris Prime
I thought it was supposed to be like magic only can really hurt him. but apparently physical things like punches and bullets can hurt him too.
00:31:49
Zach Sheets
Yeah, because I guess bullets, because he wakes in the hospital and he's got like so bullet like he's got like scars from like the bullets. but they're like healed, but then he's like, oh I'm going to get out of here and steal some pain meds.
00:32:01
Chris Prime
Which, again, that's just Nick Cage just sort of improvising. hes like, ooh, I did this at a hospital once. Watch me. I'll use this.
00:32:07
Zach Sheets
Flirting with a nurse, and like the like probably a local Romanian nurse who doesn't understand English.
00:32:12
Chris Prime
Yeah, and then getting hit with like a high dose of painkillers.
00:32:19
Chris Prime
Then I have to ask you something. This is the hero of the movie.
00:32:22
Chris Prime
you know like it's It's not like Balance, where like the the mom also has like a tender side or something. I mean, she does. She loves her child, but we get no real development from that either.
00:32:34
Zach Sheets
well she was she was she was also like involved in like the gun running or whatever karaghan was doing because they were together
00:32:43
Zach Sheets
and then she her deal with uh rorick was that she got like blown up in some sort of like, when they got raided or, like, something happened, and she's, like, gonna die, and then Rork's like, alright, I'll save you, but you're gonna carry my my son.
00:33:00
Zach Sheets
so that was, like, that was like that was like her deal.
00:33:00
Chris Prime
Yeah. yeah But the problem is that, like, Kerrigan just didn't know that. Right? He thought he she was dead, but then he doesn't care.
00:33:13
Chris Prime
Also, how long ago do you think that was? Because her son is, like, 12. Yeah.
00:33:18
Zach Sheets
Yeah. A while ago, definitely. Unless, like, demon, like, Antichrist babies grow faster than normal babies, i don't know.
00:33:22
Chris Prime
yeah
00:33:28
Zach Sheets
Like, he's actually, like, five, but he looks 12. Mm-hmm.
00:33:33
Chris Prime
I mean, that kind of explains then like how like shocking was for her to be a mom and then how old the kid is and then how they're easily able to just like be around Romania without any questions. Because, you know, like.
00:33:50
Chris Prime
but Was it revealed that he was like this devil's son early in the movie or that's something they kind of show at the end?
00:33:58
Zach Sheets
There's like a... does i think like Nadia like explains like why like her deal with Rourke, and then it's like a flashback of like her like in like rubble like dying, and then she's like, looks like you could use some help.
00:34:11
Chris Prime
I see.
00:34:13
Zach Sheets
but It's also weird, like like Nadia is like very European, and then Dany has like no accent.
00:34:20
Chris Prime
Well, hes yeah, he's just an American kid for whatever reason.
00:34:20
Zach Sheets
Dany is just like like an American kid.
00:34:26
Chris Prime
Yeah, I actually didn't think about that. It'd be funny if he's got, like, a young in the cage accent.
00:34:33
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:34:34
Chris Prime
Like... Johnny, I want to meet your son. I'm secretly your girlfriend from years ago. They can do that. like It's such a bad move to do, but I've seen movies where it's like Surprise, it's a legacy movie.
00:34:49
Chris Prime
You now have a junior in case they want to make Ghost Rider 3, like Kid Rider.
00:34:56
Zach Sheets
Well, I mean, Danny's supposed to be Danny Ketch, I guess. They're trying to set it up like, we could do a third movie where it's like, a you know, cast like a young, hot actor and have him be Danny Ketch now.
00:35:00
Chris Prime
Oh!
00:35:09
Zach Sheets
And then he's like the ghostwriter.
00:35:11
Chris Prime
wow, you're right. I didn't think of that. i thought Danny was just like a random name because they're just like, yeah, let's just call this guy Danny. Like, I didn't think they were thinking about more of the comic.
00:35:23
Chris Prime
But that's as far as like I give it credit because the rest of it has nothing to do with the comic.
00:35:30
Zach Sheets
But yeah, think I think we mentioned like, so like this there's a another, like, well, actually, I think we gotta mention like, they go to, that they have to find where, because Danny got kidnapped, so they had to figure out Kerrigan's going. And they go to talk to some content Nadia knows that would know where Kerrigan is. And we get the like insane Nicolas Cage interrogation where he's like sort of turning into Ghost Rider. Part of the skull is bursting of his face and then like going away.
00:35:57
Zach Sheets
he's doing the like, he's scratching the door! He's scratching the door!
00:36:01
Chris Prime
Yeah, that's the the pay the ferryman acting out there right now.
00:36:06
Zach Sheets
Pay the ghost or whatever.
00:36:07
Chris Prime
Pay the ghost, yeah.
00:36:07
Zach Sheets
Thanks.
00:36:08
Chris Prime
the like
00:36:08
Zach Sheets
next
00:36:10
Chris Prime
Okay, Nick Cage got two like up into Louisiana, like Mississippi folklore, and he brought it to Ghost Rider.
00:36:21
Zach Sheets
when did When did Bad Lieutenant come out?
00:36:23
Chris Prime
like, she doesn't see it.
00:36:25
Zach Sheets
2009.
00:36:25
Zach Sheets
see so so that was like, I mean, that's also like peak peak insane Nicolas Cage.
00:36:33
Chris Prime
But least in that movie, it makes sense because it's like the character is supposed to be unhinged here. I don't I can't even tell you is like this. The angel talking to him is the angel like also hallucinate is like a a cage angel is, you know, like it.
00:36:51
Zach Sheets
Well, I guess the thing is, like, the demon is insane. Like, it was, like, Zarathos was an angel who went and like, was driven insane in hell, and now he's inside Nicolas Cage. So I guess that's making him insane.
00:37:02
Chris Prime
But, like, if you go off the first movie to the second movie, what happened? Did Zaratho, like, get off his meds? Like, what? I get, like, being insane, so your idea of justice and, like, how passionate you are. Because in in the original Ghost Rider comic, that Ghost Rider turns into basically the Punisher.
00:37:21
Chris Prime
It's like, as soon as he turns to the ghostwriter, anything that did some sort of neat, like, criminal thing, it's like, it doesn't matter you committed a sin, I'll punish you.
00:37:32
Chris Prime
I'll hunt you down and scare the crap out of you, or I'll, i'll like, get rid of you.
00:37:36
Zach Sheets
yeah
00:37:37
Chris Prime
But, you don't really get that in the first movie, besides maybe a handful of times, where the ghostwriter's more... more like okay i need to fight you but he's not aggressive this movie he's just like aggressive and it's just like oh i'm uh like a zero killer in this one because he just pushes people they burst into flames or like he whips people went without like without trying to save him he's like oh like you've done me wrong i'm gonna blow you up now
00:38:07
Zach Sheets
Mm-mm.
00:38:09
Chris Prime
Which I think that's what the Max title, again, comes in handy because it doesn't need to make sense. It just has to look cool.
00:38:16
Chris Prime
But yeah, that's you're looking for like substance of like, okay, so this angel's been walking around like thinking he's the bad guy for this long now? apparently he's been the that version of like the this Zap Zoratos.
00:38:32
Zach Sheets
It's been like, yeah, like thousands of years, I guess.
00:38:34
Chris Prime
Yeah. He's been tortured by Satan, basically, and then let to wander Earth to do the will of Satan.
00:38:44
Zach Sheets
I don't, yeah, it's it's, I feel like that's like, that was a huge miscalculation like Mephisto slash Rourke's part. Like, I'm going to like give like this guy like a super powerful demon who could like defeat me.
00:38:57
Chris Prime
Yeah. Like, the only weakness was not knowing that he could do it.
00:39:02
Zach Sheets
I mean, I guess he's, i guess he's like, I guess he's sucking people's souls out and I guess they're going to hell, which helps him.
00:39:02
Chris Prime
Like,
00:39:07
Zach Sheets
But then it's also like, you have no control over the ghost rider. just like, like he's just doing whatever he wants.
00:39:14
Chris Prime
Well, maybe that's the trick. It's like, he always had the power to stop him, so he had to break him mentally to think he couldn't. Because it seems like when Warwick is confronting the writer, he sort of just gives up. He's like, wella I tried.
00:39:31
Zach Sheets
yeah
00:39:32
Chris Prime
That's the thing. like We'll get into basically what is should have been the climax for the the large hell digger, but in the end, we just got basically a mid-act fight that wraps up everything.
00:39:46
Chris Prime
So yeah, when not even Rourke is introduced, he's it's more like Harrigan faces off against the Ghost Rider again.
00:39:54
Zach Sheets
Yeah, this is and it's like it's like this is kind of like the like climax sort of of Kerrigan because like it's like he gets like defeated his
00:40:03
Chris Prime
his normal form.
00:40:05
Zach Sheets
normal phone, yeah. But yeah, we saying like this this feels like it's big enough to be like the like this could have been like the finale because it's like Because the Ghost Rider is taking over... i think it's the largest self-repelled land vehicle in the world.
00:40:21
Zach Sheets
The Bagger... It's like the Bagger 288. It's like an actual like real excavator.
00:40:27
Chris Prime
I probably guzzled gas like no no tomorrow.
00:40:30
Zach Sheets
Probably, yeah.
00:40:31
Chris Prime
Or diesel. I feel like that's a diesel for where they are. So...
00:40:36
Zach Sheets
feel like we got to talk about before he gets in the the into the excavator, though. There's that... truly insane scene where like he like I think so someone throws like a flash grenade or some sort grenade and he's just like spinning in mid-air like he's just like Ghostbusters is like floating in mid-air like spinning
00:40:54
Chris Prime
Yeah, his head shakes. It looks like and it looks like like what you would see now and as a creepypasta.
00:40:56
Zach Sheets
like
00:41:01
Chris Prime
Then more of like a, hey, this is from a Marvel movie.
00:41:04
Zach Sheets
but But it's it's sort of like, oh, is this like he's kind of disoriented? Is this how he feels? It's like, no, this is actually like literally happening. Like he's literally floating in air because everyone else sees it.
00:41:15
Chris Prime
It's still like, if If it's like, okay, you could play around with the realism and then the physics because it's trying to be more like a comic. In the comic, this scene where he shakes for like a minute straight to show that he's crazy or he's disoriented. It's just like, this is a bad panel.
00:41:34
Zach Sheets
But I think but it's, like, followed up immediately by, like, the one of the coolest scenes where like the guy, like, fires the like the entire, like, clip of a machine gun to his face and then, like, barfs it back out as, like, flame
00:41:43
Chris Prime
Yeah. that's cool, but like again, that's just we're saving that for the middle of the movie. not the this This should be at the end. Where the angel is more confident in like his abilities and probably sees that like he is delivering justice more than vengeance.
00:41:52
Zach Sheets
Yeah, they're... they're blood
00:42:02
Zach Sheets
And also, like everyone's like really taking their like letting him take their time to go one-on-one against people. Just like, all right, let everyone just stand back. like Let this let let but Tom take it. like Tom tries Uzi on him and see if that helps anything.
00:42:15
Chris Prime
Yeah.
00:42:15
Zach Sheets
no one else is doing anything.
00:42:17
Chris Prime
No, they really do take the turns. by art Now you try something.
00:42:20
Chris Prime
And they don't really have like any magic to help besides Rourke and Carrigan. But you figure the devil will give them like a magic gun or like more contract paper or something.
00:42:34
Zach Sheets
what's where So Kerrigan, I guess he's doing like a side deal. He's trying to buy like these Bunker Buster giant missile launchers. And then he's trying to use them against Ghost Rider.
00:42:45
Zach Sheets
one of the One of them like hits Ghost Rider and like launches him into this it's like the sky. and then But then he comes back down and and he's like fine. so like He's not wounded by that. But like earlier it was like a machine gun hurt him.
00:42:59
Chris Prime
Yeah.
00:43:00
Zach Sheets
and then And then he gets into like the excavator and like turns into like a hell excavator. And then starts just mowing everyone down.
00:43:07
Chris Prime
Just on the power of, i guess, writing in anything.
00:43:12
Zach Sheets
Yeah, any any vehicle that he gets into turns into like a hell version of it.
00:43:17
Zach Sheets
Which is funny. They kind of do like a like a Gremlins 2 thing at one point. we like It's like Danny's riding in the back with Johnny. Nadia's somehow got flatbed truck at one point. Their main vehicle they're riding around with for most of the movie. Johnny's motorcycle's in the back of it.
00:43:34
Chris Prime
It kind of reminds me of when they like drag around Guy Fieri's Mustang or like whatever Corvette for like diners, drive-ins, and dives.
00:43:41
Zach Sheets
Yes!
00:43:44
Zach Sheets
like like the Like the flatbed you like shoot someone on, so it looks like they're driving but they're not really driving.
00:43:48
Chris Prime
Yep.
00:43:49
Zach Sheets
It probably was. It was like their shooting truck or something.
00:43:53
Chris Prime
Yeah, I mean, once you realize that this movie had like a lot of budget cut corners and stuff, like that's where i like you kind of get impressed by... how like adaptable they were able to just film content.
00:44:05
Chris Prime
Because this does feel like a movie that runs out of money right after the scene. Like, there is a downshift in in size and scale, and then everything else is just more paint-by-numbers. Like, okay, this looks cool, but it's sort of like, ultimately, nothing really happens.
00:44:23
Zach Sheets
Yeah, they this they spent they spent probably half the budget on like that excavator. That turning excavator into an owl excavator.
00:44:30
Chris Prime
Which, again, didn't mind it, but only save that for the end of the movie, not like the beginning or or the middle. And then he doesn't fight anyone exactly worthy enough with it.
00:44:44
Chris Prime
It's not like he's going against another hell escalator or like it's another demonic machinery. and now that's why you need the demonic possession excavator that can basically like flamethrow, I think.
00:44:59
Zach Sheets
No, yeah, it's just normal mercenary human guys, and he's just overkilling. I'm going to grind you into flaming ashes.
00:45:10
Chris Prime
Right, and that's how I'm like, oh, he he sort of just scares them. I don't think he... he might have I think he hits one guy with the excavator.
00:45:18
Zach Sheets
I think he's kind of sweeping and back and forth, like blowing up everything in that like canyon or whatever the quarry or wherever they are. He's just
00:45:26
Chris Prime
I see.
00:45:28
Zach Sheets
I think the the guy that Kerrigan's buying the guns from, I think it's like a like full, like straight on, like the excavator wheel, like onto him.
00:45:36
Zach Sheets
But then, yeah, Johnny, Nadia, and Daniel are able to escape. And then Rourke shows up in the aftermath of this and turns Kerrigan into Blackout.
00:45:50
Zach Sheets
who so kind of has his powers from the comics, but then also has other powers. Because comic book Blackout, his basic like his his power is he like absorbs all the visible light in an area and turns it into like a black void, which Kerrigan does in this movie. But also, movie the movie Blackout has like decaying powers. He can touch things and they rot them.
00:46:16
Chris Prime
Yeah, it's another like, okay, what else can we do to like even out the playing field between the two like supernatural people? But adding the decay in there does make it more of a comedy layer.
00:46:31
Chris Prime
Like they don't, they really like ham it up.
00:46:33
Zach Sheets
Oh, yeah.
00:46:35
Chris Prime
So that's i'm like, okay, they're not making it sinister. They're having a playful like Taylor Devedine joke with it.
00:46:41
Zach Sheets
Like the scene where he's... Carrier's driving his truck, and he's like like trying to eat stuff, and it's like it's it's all rotting. and so The Twiggy doesn't rot, yeah.
00:46:48
Chris Prime
Except for the Twinkie.
00:46:51
Chris Prime
So again, I don't mind the like break. You need that like, okay, not everything about being this is cool. Like there are some downsides to being a demon.
00:47:01
Zach Sheets
Bizzetto's still like a cocky asshole. Like, he still has his his like personality where he's a human. Like, nothing's changed with him. He's just like, oh, now got I got decay powers. Alright, cool.
00:47:14
Chris Prime
Yeah, but the thing is, I think only the manifesto's thing only works if you're already evil. like You embrace it better. But I think if you're just like a regular guy who's trying and to do good, that's where you fight against your gift.
00:47:31
Chris Prime
Sometimes.
00:47:34
Zach Sheets
Yeah, they and they they do, well like, there's a stylized thing. Whenever Blackout is, like, killing someone, it's it's almost like there's, like, a spotlight. It's like they're on an empty stage with like a spotlight on them. It's like everything goes black except for, like, it's, like, Blackout and the person he's attacking, like, highlighted. And then it's, like, you see, like, the, like, rotting effects on that person.
00:47:57
Zach Sheets
But then it's weird because, like, it's, like... Can everyone see, like, is is everyone seeing just, like, a black, like, void or, like, a black box or something around what's going on in that area? Or is it is it just, like, kind of, like, a visual, it's like, a visual for us to be like, this is how his powers are working.
00:48:09
Chris Prime
fall in their head.
00:48:13
Chris Prime
I don't know. They don't really explain it. It's not really conveyed super well, but it it's really used for like one specific shot in the movie where it just elbow like headbutts Kerrigan.
00:48:27
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:48:27
Chris Prime
And then after that, it's whatever.
00:48:29
Zach Sheets
Well, they also do it for like the but Christopher la Lambert death.
00:48:33
Chris Prime
Oh yeah, yeah, it's the same thing.
00:48:35
Zach Sheets
Because Johnny and Nadia and Danny and Idris Elba, like... go to the the other like the sanctuary which is like where daniel's supposed to be safe from rorick but then christopher lambert is like the head monk he's like well we need to kill him so there's no chance that uh rorick can get him and make him the antichrist so they're gonna they're gonna like kill danny with like a like a giant like ceremonial sword
00:49:07
Chris Prime
Okay, but they they want... So you the devil's going to transfer himself inside this kid. It's weird that, the like, is it implied that only the devil can transfer inside a so carrier that he birthed?
00:49:21
Chris Prime
Or is it just random? I...
00:49:24
Zach Sheets
so So they explain, like, so, like, the Siren Hines body is just a normal human. he He transfers himself into that, but it's, like, when he uses his powers, like but it's it, burns and, like, rots. It's, like, destroying the body from, like, inside.
00:49:38
Zach Sheets
But because Dany was birthed with, like, so part of his powers, like, he can transfer into him and then he won't, like, he'll have, like, unlimited powers because it's, like, he won't, like, age or, like, be corrupted by his powers.
00:49:52
Zach Sheets
So that's like that's why he wants to like transfer him to Danny, because then he'll be like, could use his powers unlimited and not have to worry about like his like the body like wearing out on him. Because it's like, he was born with like his abilities already.
00:50:08
Zach Sheets
But you have to transfer like a certain a certain day at a certain time, or all it's it's or else you can't do it anymore.
00:50:14
Chris Prime
Yeah, that it's like voided or like only some of your power, which again, this is where the confusing part is for me.
00:50:14
Zach Sheets
so
00:50:21
Chris Prime
So Rourke is his his his body is dying, so he needs to transfer his soul into Danny.
00:50:26
Zach Sheets
Yeah. Yeah.
00:50:29
Chris Prime
But he transfers some of his powers, but not anything that was worthy enough to control him. Just more like I give you all of my contract powers.
00:50:38
Zach Sheets
Yeah, because Danny has the power to like restore the Ghost Rider. that like
00:50:44
Chris Prime
You figure you save that part last to transfer.
00:50:47
Zach Sheets
And Rorak's being surprised by it. He's just like, oh, no!
00:50:50
Chris Prime
Yeah. That's, I'm like, it's as if he was trying to move, but instead of, like, moving, I don't know, certain parts, and he did this at the beginning, where he, like, he kind of put an enchantment on Dany, so, uh...
00:51:05
Zach Sheets
so Like, you guys track him.
00:51:06
Chris Prime
But you couldn't track him. So I'm like, that makes sense. You want to stay off the radar. And then he's like, screw it. I'm going to like, I'm winning. Might as well give him like all these parts that like he needs when I it tell me he needs later.
00:51:19
Chris Prime
And it's like you gave him the contract ability.
00:51:23
Zach Sheets
Yeah, yeah, it's like... Like, you gave him, like, a bunch of, like... so like don't but don't give him any power until like you're in his body. You shouldn't have any ability until you're inside of him and then you you took over his body and then power is in them.
00:51:37
Chris Prime
It's like the it's it's the apocalypse rule where, like, you have to transfer your consciousness and then your consciousness gives the body the power, not just give him the power.
00:51:45
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:51:47
Chris Prime
Then later on, you'll move in there.
00:51:50
Chris Prime
Because what's stopping Danny from then just not even like even goes right out of the contract. What's stopping Danny from just having demonic powers and fighting Rourke himself?
00:51:59
Zach Sheets
Yeah, he probably could.
00:52:01
Chris Prime
I mean, honestly, they just let him it's it's back to like, I think they were thinking about that. They went, nah, just yell at Nick Cage. And then Nick Cage is back in the movie to do more crazy shenanigans.
00:52:11
Zach Sheets
just Just have Danny vomit flames Nicolas Cage's face for like two minutes.
00:52:18
Chris Prime
Yeah, it's again another uncomfortable shot because it's it's so it happens so quick and it's fast and it's cool. Like when it happens and then it keeps lingering. I'm like, OK, no one's going to pull him off. No one's got work. Isn't going to like counter magic him or anything.
00:52:32
Zach Sheets
I like how it's also like... they they They have Johnny Cage captured. He has no powers at this point either. because like
00:52:38
Chris Prime
Johnny Blaze.
00:52:39
Zach Sheets
Johnny Blaze... Yeah, sorry. World Cup just came out. so But yeah. like Johnny Blaze is a normal human now. Because he went in the the magic light room. And after he confessed that he was selfish about his dad.
00:52:53
Zach Sheets
And then like the demon left him. But then... they just let, like, Rourke just, like, lets Dany, like, walk through, like, his followers, like, alright, let's see where is going. Let's see what my son's up to.
00:53:05
Zach Sheets
No one tries to stop him. It's like, oh, is he gonna kill him? Is my son gonna kill Johnny Blaze? Cool.
00:53:13
Chris Prime
Yeah, like, this crowd of followers of O'Rourke...
00:53:17
Zach Sheets
Who are also, who are, who are, there's followers who are, like, the most powerful, like, billionaires and politicians and, like, they specifically say, it's like, it's like, all these like powerful, like, uh, uh, people from the, around the world are like his like Rourke's followers.
00:53:30
Chris Prime
Leaders. Yeah. But, like, they also are... fighters because they rushed uh johnny like they it doesn't make sense for these rich people to also be like oh we also are like we practice like martial arts on our downtime we're we're also like the the martial arts cabal because if that was so they had their own army why even like hire car kerrigan then
00:53:38
Zach Sheets
Mm.
00:53:50
Zach Sheets
Mm. Mm. we
00:53:58
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:53:58
Zach Sheets
because yeah Rourke has a couple security guys, but that's like... it He doesn't have like a full army. It seems like you should have a...
00:53:59
Chris Prime
Like, for like a cabal of rich, powerful people, they hire just like this Kurt Russell lookalike.
00:54:16
Zach Sheets
like oh
00:54:16
Chris Prime
Mercenary group.
00:54:18
Zach Sheets
i think is' it like I think Nadia says there's like 20 guys or something in there. For like armed security guards.
00:54:28
Chris Prime
That's not enough.
00:54:29
Zach Sheets
No, yeah.
00:54:30
Chris Prime
I get like Rourke gets his own personal maybe team, but then everyone in that cult would be rich and powerful, so they would need their own team.
00:54:40
Zach Sheets
We don't need our security guys for going to this this this temple, this like the most evil place in Turkey.
00:54:44
Chris Prime
The sacrifice.
00:54:49
Zach Sheets
i do love that too. Moreau's like, barrows like they're They're going to the the most evil place, the place farthest from hell. It's in Turkey.
00:55:00
Chris Prime
So I guess it's heaven? If that's the second furthest place from hell?
00:55:07
Zach Sheets
it's just it's just just some random ruins in Turkey. It's like, that's the most evil place. That's the only place he can like do his dark magic.
00:55:16
Chris Prime
So it's like Rourke's got more of a house arrest situation. Because he can't leave hell for long?
00:55:25
Zach Sheets
And he seems he seems very restricted of like what, like his his own deal is like restricting him because it's like has to do it before a certain day, before a certain time, in a certain place.
00:55:37
Chris Prime
You're right. It's like, who wrote up that agreement?
00:55:39
Zach Sheets
he made He made the deal. he made this whole thing. It's like the Devil Went On the Georgia rules where it's like, oh man,
00:55:48
Chris Prime
I shouldn't have gave you that fiddle.
00:55:49
Zach Sheets
Yeah, well like, fill a contest by one weakness.
00:55:55
Chris Prime
I mean, honestly, that's what it was, too. Like, he, he, technically, Ghost Rider could have defeated Rourke at any time. It wasn't like Ghost Rider got like a secret enchantment or, you know, his spirit changed into the spirit of justice.
00:56:13
Chris Prime
And that's how he defeats Rourke. It's sort of just. It's sort of just happens.
00:56:20
Zach Sheets
Well, it's it's kind of it's kind of odd, too, that like when Danny gives him back the Ghost Rider, but it's not like the blue flame. It's like the blue flames like, oh, now you're the spirit of justice.
00:56:30
Chris Prime
Right, right. It just... You're back to your old self again.
00:56:33
Zach Sheets
You can imagine the insane like demon angel.
00:56:38
Chris Prime
Who doesn't seem like, you know, he can stand still for any minute. And then... because of that, he just focuses on fighting Rourke and he wins. Like it's, it sounds like it, it's not like he possesses the, the like hell excavator and then like crashes that like cabal or like he defeats some sort of blue light in the sky that weakens Rourke.
00:57:02
Chris Prime
It's like all the tropes in 2011, 2012 superhero movies could have played. superhero movies could have played that They don't. It becomes like an Indiana Jones, like, fight, like, Last Crusade, like, tank fight.
00:57:14
Zach Sheets
like a bad like like or Like a Mad Max thing or something, yeah.
00:57:17
Chris Prime
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:57:17
Zach Sheets
Well, it's also, it's like Warwick missed his deadline. Like, he didn't transfer himself into Danny in time.
00:57:23
Chris Prime
but yeah, you're right.
00:57:23
Zach Sheets
So that, so he's like, he's screwed.
00:57:24
Chris Prime
It's like the next day. Well,
00:57:26
Zach Sheets
Like, he's done. he just, takes Danny anyway.
00:57:29
Zach Sheets
and that, yeah.
00:57:29
Chris Prime
I mean, I get it.
00:57:30
Chris Prime
He's just running because technically Danny has some parts powers of his, so if he can probably control him to say...
00:57:36
Zach Sheets
but Try to, try to get like a hundred years or whatever the next eclipse is.
00:57:41
Chris Prime
And then, so does Xanny keep those powers?
00:57:45
Zach Sheets
I think so. and unless unless like Unless maybe when he like brings him back to life with his like magic skull hand, maybe that took away his powers because he was dead and now he's like brought back to life. Maybe he's normal. I don't know.
00:57:59
Zach Sheets
They don't explain that. Mm-hmm.
00:58:01
Chris Prime
Oh, but like the whole point for the Christopher Lambert part was, all right, we need to eradicate the vessel.
00:58:06
Zach Sheets
z
00:58:08
Chris Prime
but you could have just done talking.
00:58:12
Chris Prime
Like, I think it was like he had a chance to hit the boy into here, or so they knew they probably couldn't make it, so he killed the boy in order to like delay it so that Rourke has nowhere to go.
00:58:22
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
00:58:24
Chris Prime
But they could have just, I don't know, just keep running. they Like, it didn't seem like they were they could have not outran. They did a pretty good job. Like, if they just didn't stop, they would have been fine, I think.
00:58:36
Zach Sheets
Yeah, they just had to last for like, I think at the point where like they meet Johnny and stuff, it's like they just have to have like two days and then it's done. Like we're going to do anything.
00:58:47
Chris Prime
But I get it. They wanted more excitement. And then they they they figured that you know Rourke was going to throw everything he had at him.
00:58:49
Zach Sheets
Mm-hmm.
00:58:53
Chris Prime
Which was just Kerrigan and five guys.
00:58:57
Chris Prime
Then later on like and another squad of people that get devastated by demonic machinery.
00:59:05
Zach Sheets
Yeah, and the big the big thing in the final chase scene is that it's like there's like a demonic truck, which is not quite as cool as a giant excavator.
00:59:14
Chris Prime
Yeah, it tones down. Like if you told me later, like if this shows structure that like Johnny possesses writing things and he gets like crazier from there. But it goes, no, it goes, OK, motorcycle, excavator, truck.
00:59:29
Chris Prime
And that's it. It would have been funny if during the chase he was like in a maybe in a city. He kept commandeering like other vehicles and it was like just transforming into crazy demonic stuff.
00:59:44
Zach Sheets
Yeah, like like like like a demonic helicopter or something, or fire truck.
00:59:49
Chris Prime
trike, a skateboard.
00:59:52
Zach Sheets
Yeah, demonic skateboard, just like the wheels are full burning. 360!
00:59:56
Chris Prime
Yeah.
00:59:57
Zach Sheets
three sixty
00:59:58
Chris Prime
Like a moped.
01:00:00
Chris Prime
You know, like, all of you guys, like, the motorcycle and him, they really ignore that his soul and the motorcycle are, like, binded together. They're like, they are, but in the the first movie, they explained it better.
01:00:13
Zach Sheets
It kind of like, I mean, a couple of scenes where like he turns in the Ghost Rider like separate from the motorcycle, and the motorcycle like bursts into flames like away from him, and then kind of like like rides over to him.
01:00:23
Zach Sheets
And I think it's also like, it's like right along when he jumps into like the truck, and like it's still near him on the road.
01:00:23
Chris Prime
But
01:00:30
Chris Prime
but again, like I think like I'm so spoiled from the first movie where Sam Elliott is like a ghostwriter too.
01:00:38
Zach Sheets
on his flaming horse.
01:00:41
Chris Prime
And that's like, okay, hey, that was the last like time he could transform.
01:00:44
Zach Sheets
The Aussie. yeah Yeah, it's like, alright, let's ride. And it's like, well, that was fun, Johnny, but i can't do that anymore. I'm i'm done. like You have to go face him by yourself.
01:00:55
Chris Prime
Does he disappear into nothing or he just goes, don't know, whatever, like he just leaves?
01:01:00
Zach Sheets
i can I can't remember if he... like, yeah, if you, like, fade it out, it's like, that I used the last my powers, I'm go i'm i'm done now.
01:01:08
Zach Sheets
Because they...
01:01:08
Chris Prime
Is he like, it's like, no one knew how the Ghost Rider lore should be, not even the movie people.
01:01:17
Zach Sheets
Oh, yeah, he he, like, Sam Elliott in the first movie, like, fades away after they did do like, do their ride.
01:01:23
Zach Sheets
And then he also gives him like the kind of like the Johnny Blaze comic like shotgun too in the first one.
01:01:29
Chris Prime
Oh.
01:01:31
Zach Sheets
Like his like classic shot. And then like he doesn't have that in this movie.
01:01:34
Chris Prime
He lost it.
01:01:36
Zach Sheets
trade I traded it for in a and like Romania.
01:01:42
Chris Prime
lost it in a poker game for a night at a warehouse. That's another thing. This movie, I think I mentioned earlier, like it's devoid of a lot of so other scenery for like you know budget reasons.
01:01:55
Zach Sheets
is
01:01:55
Chris Prime
But because of that, like, it just makes seem like this town is filled with nobody. Like, all these areas are just, like, the working hospital, like, maybe, uh...
01:02:04
Zach Sheets
it's It's like an apocalypse. It's just like a desolate it's like a desolate wasteland.
01:02:05
Chris Prime
Yeah! This movie he does feel like it takes place in some, like, Mad Max future. Where, like, oh, you go on the highway? Well, that's, like, no man's land, so there's no laws out there.
01:02:18
Zach Sheets
it's all yeah It's all just ruins and like long stretches of highway. Empty highway.
01:02:23
Chris Prime
And I got And again, because of that, like they get to play around the demons, but there's no one reacting to it besides Rourke's men. But rourke's for most of Rourke's men, like they know demons exist because Rourke exists.
01:02:30
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
01:02:37
Chris Prime
I get Kerrigan's guys because they're mercenaries. They're like, what the hell? But everyone else, they're like, okay, well, Rourke is a demon. He made like you know things come true.
01:02:50
Chris Prime
We're not shocked at the fact that there are other demons.
01:02:56
Zach Sheets
I do like we get the in the in the final chase like when he kills Kerrigan we get like the like Ghost Rider going like roadkill.
01:03:03
Chris Prime
He's trying to do like a one-liner.
01:03:05
Zach Sheets
it And then he kills Rourke by like using his chain like throw him in the air and then like slamming him down hard enough that he ends up going back to hell.
01:03:17
Chris Prime
Which, a I guess, like it seems like a rush ending, where they're like, okay, so when you get to him, you throw him.
01:03:27
Zach Sheets
Yeah, I feel like you should like pennet penance stared at him or or like burn like burned him with a chain or something. But it's just just like, I'm just going to hurl you into hell. Literally.
01:03:37
Chris Prime
Yeah, it's such an anticlimactic... thing. It's not like they were fist fighting and then it's like he got the one up on him and then just said like, oh, like, you know, i bind you to this. And then it's like, in fact, it's like when the sun rises, maybe that's where works all his power like disappears. And now it's like.
01:03:58
Chris Prime
That was the plan, like, like outlast him.
01:04:00
Zach Sheets
it shit yeah it's it's like It's like just past the time when he needed the transfer to transfer into Dany and he starts like like really rotting away.
01:04:06
Chris Prime
hmm.
01:04:08
Chris Prime
Yeah, and that's like, Ben, it's like, he's so weak, that's where Ghost Rider can then easily open up a portal, like a tunnel system to hell.
01:04:18
Zach Sheets
and
01:04:19
Chris Prime
But it's like a Mortal Kombat move. He does basically like a finisher, and then throws Rourke in there, but you know, like...
01:04:22
Zach Sheets
Yep.
01:04:28
Chris Prime
It's visually cool, i get think, but it just doesn't flow in context. of like He threw the you threw Manifesto down a hole.
01:04:39
Zach Sheets
And why is Rorke so like scared about it, too? it's like That's his like dominion. That's like his home. like it like He's just like, oh no! I'm in hell!
01:04:50
Chris Prime
I think the shock for all his planes to fall apart, I think, and he used to wait like 100
01:04:55
Zach Sheets
Maybe, yeah.
01:04:55
Chris Prime
Here's another thing, too. It makes it seem like Rourke's been jumping from host to host, like, every once in a while.
01:05:03
Zach Sheets
He became Jerry Springer.
01:05:05
Chris Prime
Yeah, so Jerry Spring was still alive back then.
01:05:08
Zach Sheets
Yeah, that was another random joke from W. Taylor. It's like... It's showing he inhabits evil in many forms. He's like Vlad the Impaler and all these evil people around the street.
01:05:20
Zach Sheets
The last one is Jerry Springer. Mm-hmm.
01:05:23
Chris Prime
It would have been cool that like those are people that made the deal with Rourke. So Rourke is more like you know such a deal maker that he's making people but at what costs. or like you know He owns them so it's like to build this empire of like cabal religious nuts.
01:05:47
Chris Prime
But the movie doesn't get that deep. they didn't like they They kind of mention things, but then that's it. They pull up. like For what we know, Jerry Springer is one of those guys in the robes that got burnt up by a Ghost Rider.
01:05:56
Zach Sheets
maybe
01:05:57
Zach Sheets
and then yeah it it ends with like like Johnny like has like a blue skeleton hand that heals Danny and then thinkkins is like i feel him I feel the angel he's back and
01:06:14
Chris Prime
Yeah, he sort of just turns into the blue angel just because Rourke's not there or like, at I don't know what happened. He just sort of like does this.
01:06:22
Zach Sheets
Yeah. And
01:06:24
Zach Sheets
he's like, now I'm the spirit not now i'm the spirit of justice.
01:06:29
Chris Prime
How do you know this? Who said this? It's not like it's not like he separated from the ghostwriter long enough for he's like, thank you, Johnny, I'm free. Like.
01:06:40
Zach Sheets
a
01:06:40
Chris Prime
If anything, the ghost is probably more mad that he's, you know, he was briefly retired and got contracted up again.
01:06:50
Chris Prime
And then he's still the ghostwriter by choice now, because I guess the contract's over if if if Danny's no longer like a vessel.
01:07:01
Zach Sheets
Yeah, now he's just going to drive around and i guess I guess he's not going to... He can either control it or now now the Xerathos isn't going to just target everybody. He's just going to target like truly evil people and deal justice and not vengeance.
01:07:20
Chris Prime
I guess. Well, I mean, it's not really quite a setup for another movie. It's not like Rourke digs himself out says, I'll be back.
01:07:28
Zach Sheets
Yeah, post-grant scene, this is like... <unk> He's playing a different actor.
01:07:34
Chris Prime
Mm-hmm.
01:07:36
Chris Prime
So, yeah, like i i' said like, a movie ends right at that point because it's so exhausting that I'm like, okay, I've got questions, but I'm not supposed to have them. Or if I am, like, too bad.
01:07:50
Zach Sheets
I guess they were planning a sequel and then Nicolas Cage was like, I'm done. And then the rights went back to Marvel marvel proper. And so we got the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
01:08:02
Chris Prime
Which wasn't bad. I think for a type of ghostwriter, makes sense.
01:08:04
Zach Sheets
so that
01:08:09
Zach Sheets
That was yeah that was like easily the strongest season of that show. because it's like It was kind of like three different like chunks. It was like a Ghost Rider chunk and then like a Life Battle Decoy chunk. and then like the like They were in a Virtual Hydra World chunk.
01:08:26
Zach Sheets
It was all the same season, but they all kind of like tied everything together.
01:08:30
Chris Prime
I mean, at this point I stopped watching, so I don't even know what happens.
01:08:34
Chris Prime
And it's not like a required thing to watch anymore, right?
01:08:39
Zach Sheets
No, it it got it got weird around like Infinity War time because they were kind of like, they sort of mentioned Thanos, but then it was like, well, we're in our own universe, kind of. like We're not really like in the main universe where we don't have to worry about like the snap and everything.
01:08:55
Chris Prime
Yeah, I mean, if anything, it could have been like, oh no, Thanos is back, and then, oh, look, we found Nick Cage. Johnny Blaze.
01:09:05
Chris Prime
Now hes should he's here to help us.
01:09:09
Zach Sheets
it's It's too bad this wasn't i one the Fox movies, because maybe he could have showed up in Deadpool and Wolverine.
01:09:14
Chris Prime
that would have been cool. Yeah, the fact that like a weird standalone. no No one really has the rights.
01:09:18
Zach Sheets
it's like It's a yeah it's so Sony Marvel Knights movie.
01:09:25
Chris Prime
So he could have showed up in Venom, maybe.
01:09:29
Zach Sheets
he's pretty He's in the spider like the Spider-Man universe, Sony's Spider-Man universe.
01:09:34
Chris Prime
Hang out with Morpheus.
01:09:37
Zach Sheets
Well, we have we have Ben Reilly, Spider-Dwar in the
01:09:41
Chris Prime
Yeah, that's all counts. Again, it's so crazy to see how like it came like Nick Cage somehow came back like he always does, but he never left. You know, like it's like I also don't think this is Nick Cage's fault.
01:09:56
Chris Prime
This movie is just just structurally little zany. I think like it's not entertaining in a way that is like, oh, come hang out, watch a story unfold.
01:10:08
Chris Prime
You're just watching like I think I said earlier, just skits and it's fine. You know, it's like nowadays you you could just watch like clips of this and it's it's like serviceable.
01:10:21
Chris Prime
Trying to piece together the plot is like, eh, then this happens and this boy and then he gets kidnapped like two times and he just gets kidnapped for the rest of the movie.
01:10:30
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
01:10:32
Zach Sheets
I mean, if you're if you're a Nicolas Cage fan and you want see him unleashed, like this is like one of his most unleashed performances.
01:10:39
Chris Prime
Yeah. But I just wish there was more Nick Cage freak out instead of him as the Ghost Rider freak out, but
01:10:42
Zach Sheets
But...
01:10:46
Chris Prime
It still translates.
01:10:47
Zach Sheets
But you can also watch Bad Lieutenant then it's like... and then it's like that's like over Like, Unhinged Nicholas Cage plus, like, Werner Herzog. like actually Like, with, like, actual, like, story and, like, directing.
01:11:01
Zach Sheets
Like, like, a... Like, know, a solid, like, directing and visuals. Mm-hmm.
01:11:07
Chris Prime
Oh, and and the fact that that movie is about someone's like complete like corruption and...
01:11:07
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
01:11:13
Chris Prime
and sort of like just giving in to all these instincts and being unhinged, you know, being a bad lieutenant.
01:11:21
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
01:11:21
Chris Prime
So that makes sense for that movie. Here, it's like Nick Cage still wants to be that, but it doesn't make sense because like, so is Johnny tortured by the demon? Is the the demons tortured? But then it's like he gave him the Hulk problem. Like,
01:11:38
Chris Prime
Yeah, it's like you can pick your poison for which
01:11:45
Zach Sheets
Yeah, it's it's there's there's some stuff that this one does better than the first one, but it also, like, it's kind of like, they're both kind of like, not... They're they're both, like, mixed bags as far as, like, Ghost Rider stuff.
01:11:58
Chris Prime
And that's just right in general. The Nick Cage movies are just mixed bags where you you enjoy them for Nick Cage.
01:12:00
Zach Sheets
Yeah. Yeah.
01:12:06
Chris Prime
Nothing really else because they don't hold up well. But it for performances, you just kind of wish there was like another character that did other things to kind of fill in the gap. Kind of like a Steven Seagal movie where like the modern Steven Seagal, you don't really watch it for him.
01:12:21
Chris Prime
He's in it, but like the other guy does most of the work.
01:12:26
Zach Sheets
I mean, i feel I feel like in this one, like the other person is just doing his wacky French accent.

Character Roles and Teamwork

01:12:33
Chris Prime
Yeah. So, but he's, he just, I kind of wish he was doing more. Like, he should have been tailing Johnny more. He should been more scenes.
01:12:44
Chris Prime
You know, they, they, they should have teamed up better.
01:12:46
Zach Sheets
Yeah.
01:12:48
Chris Prime
But really, like, think in all the fights, like, it just, Albo shows up at the end, really.
01:12:56
Zach Sheets
Yeah, because like because Johnny's in the pit, and then, like, it's almost kind of like, he's in he's in those like the stands of this, like, ancient, like, theater, wherever they are, whatever they're doing in the ritual, and he's just, like, gunning down people, like, the like cult members with a machine gun, like, yelling French, some sort of, like, French quotes or something, where he's whatever he's quoting.
01:13:16
Zach Sheets
Or, like, doing, like, like like French prayer something, yeah.
01:13:17
Chris Prime
Or like, he's just shit-talking.
01:13:21
Zach Sheets
And then Kerrigan gets him and, like, melts like the case him but he is like able to like his head like headbutt like kind of like it's like his last thing of like aha fuck you we we're
01:13:32
Chris Prime
Yeah, he is like, french like, Pepe Le Pew a little bit.
01:13:35
Zach Sheets
or like frenchie from the boys
01:13:37
Chris Prime
Mmm. But yeah, like to saying, like it just they didn't get the balance almost as if like the cage and then it just Alba filmed one scene together. Then the rest

Filming Style Critique

01:13:47
Chris Prime
of the time, it's just like they filmed each scene together like a different days. Yeah.
01:13:53
Zach Sheets
Yeah. And definitely we're just like, you guys can do whatever you want. We don't care.
01:14:02
Zach Sheets
we we're totally We're totally like, Neville D and Tierra were just like, yeah, whatever, whatever like we're just going to be on Rollerblades. Whatever you guys want to do, just do it. You want to crazy accent?
01:14:11
Chris Prime
wolffo We'll film everything and then put it together in post.
01:14:11
Zach Sheets
You want to like...
01:14:15
Zach Sheets
Yeah. And we'll throw a bunch of like filters and stuff over it.
01:14:20
Chris Prime
Yeah. That's how I'll make up for this.
01:14:24
Zach Sheets
But yeah, I think

Nicolas Cage in Spider-Noir

01:14:25
Zach Sheets
that's it for Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance.
01:14:30
Zach Sheets
definitely I'm glad Nicolas Cage is back in an actually like really like fun superhero thing with Spider-Noir. It has actual budget and actual like super stylish visuals.
01:14:43
Chris Prime
Agree.
01:14:44
Zach Sheets
And yeah, so over the site, we got a bunch of all our usual stuff there. We got news, reviews, trailers. I got a review of The Mandalorian Grogu up there, if you want to read my thoughts on that movie.
01:14:55
Zach Sheets
And we have our monthly commentary up there now. we have It's Hitman Agent 47, because io Interactive, who is the publisher, the developer of the Hitman games, has a new game out. Obviously, it's

Website Updates and Future Content

01:15:05
Zach Sheets
a Double Set First Light.
01:15:08
Zach Sheets
And so if you want, but then if you want to kind of like see the movie that was inspired by their more well-known franchise, you can check that out.
01:15:20
Zach Sheets
also Also a second movie that kind of like is like a reboot.
01:15:25
Chris Prime
And just, again, skips the lore.
01:15:25
Zach Sheets
It has nothing to do with like the the first one.
01:15:26
Chris Prime
Yeah.
01:15:29
Zach Sheets
And then all the yeah other user stuff on the site, I'll have to check all this stuff out. Oh, and then come

Sign-Off and Future Plans

01:15:35
Zach Sheets
back next week, we'll be talking about Masters of the Universe, the Dolph Lundgren original classic, because the the new one is going to be in theaters, the new Travis Knight directed, hopefully hopefully good one.
01:15:48
Zach Sheets
It looks like it should be good from the trailer. It looks like the characters are going to be cartoon accurates.
01:15:56
Chris Prime
Yeah, I also but i I just wish that there was a little more like lead up with like maybe. Like a cartoon revile like that wasn't the Netflix one, like something to get us back to the classic.
01:16:13
Chris Prime
You know.
01:16:14
Zach Sheets
yeah Yeah, the Kevin Smith show was like the last He-Man thing I think that we've gotten.
01:16:19
Chris Prime
and that was a subversive thing where it's like everything you know about he-man forget it and now this one's like yeah and this one's like remember he-man
01:16:20
Zach Sheets
Yeah. He's dead! Mm-hmm.
01:16:28
Chris Prime
remember the meta-ness of he-man we're gonna lean into it and like okay so you i'll give him a shot i'm not
01:16:35
Zach Sheets
i i yeah I'm i'm hopeful of but just because Bumblebee was good. know sat direction of that That was like kind of like the best Transformers movie.
01:16:45
Chris Prime
And just went back to basics.
01:16:47
Zach Sheets
Yeah. But yeah, we'll talk a little bit about that and then definitely a lot of the Dolph Lundgren movie next week. All the all the misfits that that aren't the cartoon characters in that movie.
01:17:02
Zach Sheets
So yeah, come back that. Check out our website. Check all that stuff out. And yes, of course, I'm Zach and we will see you next week.
