Zach Sheets: Hello and welcome to the Everything Actioncast podcast week of... August 17, 2026. I'm your host Zach.
Chris Prime: I'm your co -host Chris.
Zach Sheets: And we're just a couple of working stiffs talking about... a working man the 2025 jason statham movie because we got a brand new jesus day the movie in theaters right now mutiny which...
Zach Sheets: Seems like it's... Seems like... It's going to be a solid Jason Statham movie, hopefully. it's from the It's from the guy who directed Plane, which was a pretty fun... Gerard Butler movie so hopefully He still gets that same treatment.
Zach Sheets: i don't I don't know if this if it was the... Because they're working on a sequel called Boat. I don't know if this turned like muty turned into a Boat turned into Mutiny, but maybe.
Chris Prime: I feel like it was a draft. and they went You know what? Let's just... try to... get this off the ground.
Zach Sheets: Let's go. Let's put Statham in this. But yeah, Working Man, the the second collaboration between... Jason Statham and David Ayer after The Beekeeper.
Zach Sheets: which was the year before. Orky make him out. And also a Sylvester Stallone co -written movie. David Ayer and Stallone wrote the script together.
Zach Sheets: Based on... The first book in the Levon Cade series of books by Chuck Dixon. Which out there's 12 of them. So, like a lot lot a lot of potential for sequels, apparently. If they wanted to.
Chris Prime: That brings up a good question. Uh... Do you think this... Movie has legs for sequels.
Zach Sheets: I mean... yeah i mean It seems like the books are like... something something random happens to like something could just happen to 11 and he just like you know being in on and a new thing like someone like you know,
Zach Sheets: attacks so someone or like he just stumbles into something. they They feel... I mean, it seems that even more like random than like Reacher. like where it's just like someone someone like It's like, oh, someone stole my car. I have to get i have to go get it back.
Chris Prime: Yeah, and reachers are... are Always. He senses something greater. to He kind of gets maybe like... 20 % of the decision situation, like you a read goes, okay.
Chris Prime: you're involved in a mob. Like that's. That's what Reacher kind of always... acknowledges. before he investigates further into the problem.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: Uh... Levon. This was just... workplace harassment. And.
Chris Prime: It evolved into something crazier. And that's not even. Because that's not even the bigger... Part. of Of like.
Chris Prime: but the the inciting incident
Zach Sheets: Yeah, the thing at the work the word thing at to crush site was like not even connected to anything.
Chris Prime: Right. It's like, that was just. the the morning. And then. it It could be like the... the the kickoff event which is a kidnapping Could have happened like four days later.
Chris Prime: And it's almost like not connected whatsoever.
Chris Prime: I think it's just to show you that the... The crime in the city is kind of out of control.
Zach Sheets: Well, yeah, I think yeah the i it's to show off that... Statham has... it's so all of his like you know military fighting skills he's like you Oh, you think he's an an ordinary construction worker? No, he's a...
Zach Sheets: A crazy Special Forces badass.
Zach Sheets: Which I was we all know but we to establish that.
Chris Prime: Yeah, it is like an establishing by the way. He can't kick ass He's not just a friendly. Like.
Zach Sheets: Four -minute construction site, yeah.
Chris Prime: War men, yeah.
Zach Sheets: I'm wondering, yeah he has he has a shotgun. on On the site, on the construction site, how often... are people coming up into the construction site causing trouble, that he needs like a shotgun just at the ready.
Chris Prime: I don't know. I mean, it it just it was lucky that. All this. trouble happen by the the designated shotgun holder
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: And. That. No one else is freaked out by that.
Zach Sheets: All of... all of his guys that work for him have some sort of like they're like in debt to like loan sharks or they're in like the mob or something it's just they all they all have problems It's like, God, another.
Zach Sheets: Okay. another group of thugs showing up It's going to cause us a 10 -minute delay.
Chris Prime: But that's the thing. It doesn't, in other movies, anything like that would shut down the worksite for like an hour or whatever.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: It seemed like people were still doing their job while this was happening. They're just... Alright, well, the boss is on it. Anyway, back to painting. like
Zach Sheets: Oh, yeah, it's like, oh, Juan's getting hassled by the some some thugs. All right. The boss will handle it.
Chris Prime: Hold up. Yeah, the boss slash security guard will handle this.
Zach Sheets: Or. Our homeless boss that lives in this truck.
Chris Prime: Does he live in his truck?
Zach Sheets: for for the beginning of the movie
Chris Prime: Oh yeah, you're right!
Zach Sheets: Yeah, he just yeah lives in his truck outside the works but like the the construction site and like because he's the first one there every day to unlock the the the fence.
Chris Prime: I forgot that detail. And it takes him like a little bit to realize he needs like a home. Like he needed.
Zach Sheets: course
Chris Prime: A residency.
Zach Sheets: He goes... He goes to, he's he's also in a custody battle with his father -in -law. Because his wife... killed herself when he was deployed. in the Royal Marines.
Zach Sheets: Ta -da! And so like his father -in -law has his daughter, Mary. Uh, It's like... He has like primary custody and like... Levin's trying to get custody. Back. But then his lawyer's like,
Zach Sheets: You should probably get, like, a residence. that The court's probably not going to like it that you live under your truck. And I love it.
Chris Prime: here's the thing Here's the thing, too. 11 is just terrible with money.
Zach Sheets: Mhm.
Chris Prime: Because... He paid for a high class lawyer to tell him. the basics, basically, of like... Establish a residency. Like... Maybe don't live in your truck.
Zach Sheets: And it's this probably been going on for a while. It's been going on for a while. He's been paying them like... Who knows how much?
Chris Prime: 10 grand almost because it seemed like a very expensive lawyer building
Zach Sheets: Yeah. mm -hmm
Chris Prime: And. They're his representing counsel. And he's not even going for it. court he's going for just like Just the the legal paperwork and then establish a case. So it's not even a.
Chris Prime: like battle right then they're just preparing for battle
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: But I think. the Like. The concept was that like, I think he lost a few hearings in the beginning because that's how. He lost custody?
Zach Sheets: Yeah, he only has like... two hours every week or something, but then... the father -in -law wants dr what's it Dr. Ron or Dr. Roth or whatever wants to is like
Chris Prime: Full time, yeah.
Zach Sheets: he's He's like... Only Super 5 visits only an hour every other week. So he's like we really trying to like get. 11 out of Mary's life.
Chris Prime: Well, I'm thinking they're probably they should have hinted that.
Zach Sheets: But...
Chris Prime: Before the events of the... What's the movie? Leving on to, like... he's been trying to solve crime elsewhere or like. you know, ongoing situations. That makes him keep losing custody because like for every police report that's filed, it's like Dr. Roth is just like, that's why you can't keep the daughter because who knows?
Chris Prime: you know, If you save. the next like troubled person. it's gonna like come back and haunt the daughter
Chris Prime: like that That should have been established. Besides the, like, hey. I think you killed my daughter. it's like
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: Okay, well, are we ever gonna like... Go back to that. Maybe it's more of a frame up. but you know i
Zach Sheets: Like... i'm sure I'm sure there was like a police report a police report of like, oh yeah, Levin had nothing to do with this. like he was He wasn't even home at the time. His wife like his wife killed him.
Chris Prime: He was deployed?
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: So when they have a record and... There may seem like. In the beginning intro. There's like... The whole like. Bond -like and introduction with like the the sexy construction machines and the Call of Duty cutscene being played out.
Zach Sheets: Yep. But... The cement truck has like a grenade for like the mixing part.
Chris Prime: Mm hmm.
Zach Sheets: and Like... the but Like a but bullets fly out but they're like nails.
Chris Prime: So, and... Without knowing anything about the franchise or what it was a movie about, if you came in blind with that... you thought the movie was going to have more construction -themed combat, and and maybe...
Chris Prime: Like... Maybe a payoff. where there is a... showdown at a construction yard or you know he's using his construction work.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: weapons or whatever, you know? none of that pays off like none of the
Zach Sheets: just Just for that first fight, just the first fight at the extraction site, he uses like a little bit, apparently he uses like a bucket of nails and then like a...
Chris Prime: Barely. Here.
Chris Prime: A sandbag?
Zach Sheets: a bag of like cement or something.
Chris Prime: Back yeah bag of sand us cement bag that's not even mixed so it's just Dust.
Zach Sheets: Powder yeah.
Chris Prime: And then.
Zach Sheets: Later he uses a hammer, like he... like he pulls a hammer out of like a random toolbox. and uses it for one fight but then yeah he doesn't use any he's not using the L guns or any of his construction knowledge He just like.
Chris Prime: I... Would have loved if basically every situation he's like, I need to get in that building. He has to bring out his tools. like he's wearing a tool belt he's pretending to be a construction worker or he's blending into The background.
Chris Prime: Like. just like lightly tapping things with a hammer just to like pretend to be working you know what i mean like That's his like cover.
Zach Sheets: What the? Well, on the poster, he's got like the sledgehammer. And then he doesn't even use that to kill anybody. Like he uses like break. Like breaking chains at the end of the movie. Like that should have been like it should be like walking tall where he's got like this is my trusty sledgehammer.
Chris Prime: The 2x4?
Zach Sheets: Yeah
Chris Prime: Yeah. Yeah, I was waiting for that. I thought maybe that pays off where at the end. He goes into this like... big showdown and the first thing he does is throw his work tools or maybe he you know, rams a construction vehicle into the wall. like
Zach Sheets: He has like a dump truck or like a... Yeah, some sort of, like, major huge piece of construction equipment. like bricks to the whole like building.
Chris Prime: I know this is a little late because the Odyssey raid came out, but there should have been a scene where he did build like a Trojan horse with his construction crew.
Zach Sheets: It's like, alright. All right, guys, I need your help. All of us gotta get banned together.
Chris Prime: We gotta tear down this wall, or we need to build up this... I don't know, giant. Russian. Which... figure.
Zach Sheets: Okay.
Chris Prime: We need to build a Baba Yaga.
Zach Sheets: Yep.
Chris Prime: They only respect fear, so we will build their most feared creature.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: Because we're working men. None of that even gets brought up.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: There's not. I mean there is one line I think it's said by Dutch where he recognizes that Jason Statham has military skills.
Zach Sheets: This is... These are working man's hands.
Chris Prime: yeah but that's the only that like oh he said the thing and then like never again after that
Zach Sheets: I feel like they they really missed the opportunity to play. The Rush song, Working Man? too like that could have been like the theme song or the end credits song or something
Zach Sheets: Because that whole song is just like, I'm a working it's just like i walking man.
Chris Prime: Oh, I agree.
Zach Sheets: but
Chris Prime: I agree. it it The soundtrack just becomes generic, like modern. Uh... suspense music but you really could have leaned into who these movies are meant for They're not meant for like younger audiences or just like, hey, this is your first action film.
Chris Prime: This is a... This is slow. I mean, this ages us, but this is like... Dad action? Like a return to dad action.
Zach Sheets: Yeah, oh. 100%, yes.
Chris Prime: It shot well, don't get me wrong, but... It tries to be like a hybrid of like a John Wick. And taken. Where the underworld is a like. very like respect hierarchy and there's certain rules.
Chris Prime: But then like... They sort of just don't have any rules once like things start rolling, like just. crime could happen. There's no checks and balances.
Zach Sheets: mm -hmm
Chris Prime: You know what I mean? like Jason Statham shows up. At some point later. where he's just like, I'm a drug dealer. They're like. Okay. Like, you you know, me they're just, yeah, you're a drug dealer.
Zach Sheets: Yep.
Chris Prime: there's no like i don't know you you know there's no like who do you work for like I'm not saying that... criminals need to show each other resumes, but... if like One of the biggest criminal organizations in the town is like,
Chris Prime: I don't know who this guy is. like I don't think this guy's real.
Chris Prime: Because, Like, in in Taken. in the like one at the peak Dad action movies. Like... Liam Neeson. kind of takes like the time and he just sort of goes all right like I can just bullshit, but, like... hes He's kind of like jumping between different organizations. They don't know each other.
Chris Prime: They're sort of like... and i'm underworld you're underworld like this underworld is is like all in shadows But like in this movie. It seems like. it's mostly just The Russian mob owns the city.
Zach Sheets: The they old Chicago.
Chris Prime: Oh yeah, it's Chicago. But... Uh... Because like... is the is the crew Is the villains that show up in the construction yard also Russian?
Zach Sheets: No, I think they're they're like... It seemed like they're like, yeah, Hispanic, because like they're like...
Chris Prime: Hispanic group?
Zach Sheets: they It's like they're just like... money like money like loan sharks or something or we don't really know why they're like harassing that guy but then they There's they just like... show up and leave with him. Never factor again into the movie. like They're not Russian. They don't have nothing to do with... the kidnapping or anything it's like it's just it's just to yeah the show jason statham's like Fighting prowess.
Chris Prime: Yeah, so that's why I'm like, okay, so... You can kind of... be criminals and everyone's just like cool within this criminal world. but It's like, oh. Alright. But...
Chris Prime: It seems like the Russian's at the top. they It's got like way more crazy things going on. and in their realm. And then their business is like everything. It's like drugs, people.
Chris Prime: Nightclubs. Uh, like party mansions.
Zach Sheets: Mm -hmm. Yep.
Chris Prime: And yeah, like. And then... There's no... This movie lacks the like. city detective or someone on Jason Statham's case to be like, hey. you know,
Chris Prime: uh, Levon, you can't break the law. You can't go around doing what you want.
Zach Sheets: Yeah. Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: Like, no one tells him that.
Zach Sheets: He's got... He's, well. He's got one friend in the DEA that he calls one time, and then he gets like... The most like obscure piece of information, like go. but Maybe you should go to this bar, Levon. He's like, all right.
Zach Sheets: No, no. back No background on who that guy is. or like like we get It's like they serve together, probably. But then. He just he never shows up up again.
Zach Sheets: And then and then David Harbour, Gunny, who's his friend. like he like in the opening credits we see him like kind of like he carried him off the battlefield and he got caught in an explosion But like he lost his eye like he lost his eyes in the explosion.
Zach Sheets: But. he's just like yeah do it man you gotta go yeah get out there and kill everybody
Chris Prime: He encourages him.
Zach Sheets: Yep.
Chris Prime: So quick. He's like, you don't need my permission. I'd be doing it myself. Like, I'm actually the real LeVon.
Zach Sheets: Yup.
Chris Prime: And. That's something we Zach and I both looked up. where Uh... Basically, Levon's character is David Harbour. He's just some dude chilling. Trying to live off the grid. trying to like kind of build something of of his of his like humanity after just like All the.
Chris Prime: experience of battle and stuff
Zach Sheets: Hmm?
Chris Prime: And just like have a simple life. And that's all he wants. But... Yeah, he keeps getting into like trouble. Uh... I guess like. The... Maybe the book reads better for that?
Chris Prime: I got to see if the book has like basically a David Harbour friend. who hooks him up with like all this arsenal and words of encouragement.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: Because Levon, for such a like prepared man... How the besides the work shotgun, he had nothing to fight. Like... any of the Russians with. He kind of like had a...
Zach Sheets: Is. He's like... He's not collecting weapons. He's not like picking up like like other people's weapons and taking them.
Chris Prime: Nope.
Zach Sheets: he's
Chris Prime: He's not like the Punisher. see like In the comics, at least the Punisher. He he always steals the weapons from villains. because he can't i mean He can easily buy it from the black market, but it's cheaper.
Zach Sheets: hu
Chris Prime: and Just like... convenient for him just to rob the mob. all the time. like if you're a bad guy he's taking everything for his next mission because that's what like
Zach Sheets: oh
Chris Prime: black ops or like operatives do like they reuse what they can I thought that would have that i be like another thing. but I don't know, LeVon's... go -to move is like whenever he gets things he just throws it out a window or you know
Zach Sheets: yeah
Chris Prime: And we'll we'll get into that. Let's let's go into actually the the like. The working man's day.
Zach Sheets: Well... We should probably mention the inciting thing that like like gets them back into like the world of... you know killing people which is
Chris Prime: Yeah, well, which is not the construction site, not like his wife. wife's death it's not his father -in -law it's just something completely different
Zach Sheets: It's like he is very close to. Uh, the people that own the construction, like the construction company. which is like, it's like a Pena. And then it's like his, he has a daughter, Jenny.
Zach Sheets: who I do love that they specifically mention that she, like, went took, like, karate classes so that, yeah like... Factors in later. And that she has like a Green Beret grandfather that taught her a bunch of stuff.
Zach Sheets: because you Because it's like, later on she's she's like... She's like very casual about being kidnapped.
Chris Prime: That and just like she's like. hostage ready.
Zach Sheets: Yeah, she's like ready to fight everybody. and they like Fight for, fight them. escape and get out of there But she she is she's she's planned this like. Massive.
Zach Sheets: they They finished a semester of college, so they're going to go... She and her girlfriends are going to go out... like like like The. I don't even know where they are in Chicago where it's like there's like so many like diverse bars and like one street.
Chris Prime: it's it's It's like a montage. It becomes like The Hangover.
Zach Sheets: they go to They go to like...
Chris Prime: A karaoke bar, an Irish bar.
Zach Sheets: Okay. Like a full -on like nightclub, like a dance club.
Chris Prime: Yeah.
Zach Sheets: and its It's like...
Chris Prime: Ants Nightclub.
Zach Sheets: And it's like a full, like, Irish bar where they're, like, doing an Irish jig. And then they end up at, like, the dive bar. And then.
Chris Prime: The dive bar is somehow the worst bar.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Zach Sheets: But they've they been they're being fouled the entire time by this guy named Viper. Who? works with the bartender Johnny at the dive bar. to like take pictures he like like take pictures of girls and like uh like doing something and then he Kidnaps Jenny.
Zach Sheets: And. And then it's like, guess It's like... Two days later. they When they go to, like, Statham, like they're like... Oh, we need you to help find Jenny because, like, she's she's missing.
Zach Sheets: Because it was like a she just spread like a Friday and then they're like. Or it's gotta be like Monday because it's like the working it's like the work day it's like the first day work day after friday so it's like they wait the whole weekend they're like Oh, she's missing.
Zach Sheets: We got to talk to the... 11. And, like, have him use his skills.
Chris Prime: Did they even call the police?
Zach Sheets: Yeah, you see the police like driving away from like the construction site.
Chris Prime: Okay.
Zach Sheets: when like on the Monday when like Levin gets to work.
Chris Prime: Yeah, but for all we know, that's just like another like harassment thing that happened on that construction site.
Zach Sheets: It's like someone else got into a fight at the construction site.
Chris Prime: You know, that's just like a regular. Monday to that.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Zach Sheets: but it's like they they But they want Levin to use his like military skills to rescue Jenny. Which at first he's like, no, I don't want to like i can't go back to like being and like that person. But then... He goes to see Dave Harbour and everyone's like...
Zach Sheets: You should do it. Like, yeah, go... Kill them all.
Zach Sheets: And then Levin's like, all right, yep, I'll do it.
Zach Sheets: because he Because he told Jenny that he would always have her back. So so he's now he's he's on the case.
Chris Prime: yeah they're like listen we know you're you got military skills he's like yeah but you're like No, no, no. we can sense your your your like karate
Zach Sheets: You're kidding. You're kidding. You're constantly beating people up on the construction sites.
Chris Prime: I can't, that's the thing. I don't know if that one fight. is just like all they took for like Proof or this is a such a common occurrence
Zach Sheets: Hmm.
Zach Sheets: I mean, if Statham has a shotgun on the site, it's going to be more than one time that some people have showed up trying to like do something.
Chris Prime: True. Also, can we get into the...
Zach Sheets: But.
Chris Prime: Before we get too far into that, can we also mention this is like... a movie for A certain conservative group that. Bye. don't have a lot of minority friends because they have to like really show you michael pena's like Family.
Chris Prime: And how like they're just like us.
Zach Sheets: i
Chris Prime: Like, you know what I mean? Like they.
Zach Sheets: Why would - Everyone's always giving Statham food at the beginning, too. Like, you gotta eat something.
Chris Prime: Well, because he's basically a homeless man living in his truck in front of the workplace. I get that.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: like i
Zach Sheets: okay
Chris Prime: You can't really. Like... On paper, that sounds terrible. But then you look at Satham and he looks like. healthy You know what I mean? He's not.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: Like. Skinny and and like. sickly. He looks just like Satham in... you know, redneck cosplay.
Zach Sheets: from From Homefront, basically.
Chris Prime: Yeah, it's the same like outfit he's wearing.
Chris Prime: it's like a shame it's It's a shame that like they don't make like a connective universe where it's just this one character doing everything.
Zach Sheets: oh
Chris Prime: if you see working man then go see home front it it kind of plays like a sequel
Zach Sheets: I mean, there's there's like a lot of similarities. like He's a single dad. He's like...
Chris Prime: A trained operative.
Zach Sheets: king Yeah, former operative. He's running into like these weird like local crime figures. like It was like Gator in Homefront played by James Franco.
Chris Prime: but It's funny in home front, though.
Zach Sheets: Also meth.
Chris Prime: Yeah, there's drugs and and like. uh Like. Low. wannabe kingpins. Bye. And Homefront, it's hilarious just because it's just the local bang of like.
Chris Prime: Local gang of, Like, almost like a... just the townies you know it's like the the most angry group of townies
Zach Sheets: Yep.
Chris Prime: Where in this one, it's just, you know. an offspring. uh group of The rooster, whatever it is, the the Russian mob.
Zach Sheets: Brat fur.
Chris Prime: Yeah, yeah.
Chris Prime: It's just like okay. we we We are the cool ones where we listen to techno and get each other tattoos.
Chris Prime: But yeah, that's all it takes is like, Statham's like, oh, okay, I guess I'll... Be your. Investigator. Like. Bounty hunter guy.
Zach Sheets: Which he's already i mean he's already behind the clock, like isn't it? don't they always say like if you don't find someone like the first 48 hours or find evidence the first 48 hours it's like the First chance of finding them goes like way down.
Chris Prime: Yeah, it's like... The first 42 hours or like 48 hours is crucial.
Zach Sheets: Mhm.
Chris Prime: because like after that it gets harder and then it's like You need a hostage negotiator if they have a ransom or kidnapping, you know, like. They They kind of didn't.
Chris Prime: You know, the This was just like a straight up abduction.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: And that's it.
Chris Prime: It almost goes on into like hostile. Which is... or hostile, which I think Michael Peña was in.
Chris Prime: So I kind of want to have him to be like a flashback.
Zach Sheets: I can't remember. yeah
Chris Prime: He's like, oh, I've done this before.
Zach Sheets: Mhm.
Zach Sheets: i don't I don't think initially like it was supposed to be a hostile thing, but then like the the buyers... Monstervenge.
Chris Prime: Yeah, then it becomes a hostile thing
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: Well, I think and it was always something crazy because they just kidnapped these people and then they're not going to let them go.
Zach Sheets: Well, the whole the whole scheme you find out eventually is that... Uh, but Viper. and his girlfriend, Artemis. are like... they take they take find They just take pictures of random girls at bars.
Zach Sheets: And they text. their boss. who texts his clients. And then the client's like, oh, I want that girl. And so they kidnap that girl. but take them to do whatever.
Zach Sheets: which which is like yeah so they texted like jenny's picture to like Bye. It's like the Russian penguin or something. The final scene, he shows up and he he looks like but he's he's like the penguin. He's got like the... cigarette in like the holder he's got like a top hat
Chris Prime: Oh, yeah.
Zach Sheets: it's like He's got a cape.
Chris Prime: He's he's a straight up wannabe Batman villain.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: Uh... Who's the actor that plays... them.
Zach Sheets: I'm trying to remember like what his name was. but
Chris Prime: they They call him, like, the doctor? Or they didn't even say what his name was.
Zach Sheets: I don't even know if they said his way what his name was. Yeah, he was just like the client or something.
Zach Sheets: But yeah, but state I mean, Statham starts out pre like. how you would think you'd start out where, like, he, like, goes to the last place that Jenny was, and then... Fouls the bartender home. Because like he realizes the bartender is in on it.
Zach Sheets: and then which the bartender is like so like he's like not even Like worried, like this. this man is like broken into his apartment or least he's still like smoking his bong and be like What are you talking about, man? like Chill out.
Chris Prime: Yeah, I think like people break into his room all the time.
Zach Sheets: I mean, apparently he leaves his door open because he just walks. It isn't like kick the door down or anything. He just walks in.
Chris Prime: Yeah, for a guy that is like dealing with like such...
Zach Sheets: He's like.
Chris Prime: crime.
Zach Sheets: human trafficking.
Chris Prime: Yeah, it's...
Zach Sheets: And drugs?
Chris Prime: I understand if he was just like... a low -tier, like, muscle or... i don't know like He's unaware that he's part of like a giant ring. But it seems like the bartender is in on the scheme.
Chris Prime: Or at least... He's part of a network of... Like... crime.
Zach Sheets: Yeah, and then... The like and then it's the two two Russian guys show up. which I think they were going to. Were they going to pay him? Like, they they show up, like, they're paying him for, like, the most recent, like, the Jenny job or something.
Zach Sheets: Like, they're like...
Chris Prime: I think so.
Zach Sheets: and But then... Statham has been like waterboarding him in the tub. And then he brings him out and they instantly shoot him. they just like Good Johnny Depp, like Robocop style.
Zach Sheets: And then Statham kills them. And then. takes takes all their money. and leaves, and then he kind of waits to see who shows up.
Zach Sheets: Which is... Jason Fleming. He's been in a bunch of stuff.
Chris Prime: I mean, he's like been the go -to. Russian or European bad guy for things.
Zach Sheets: Mm -hmm.
Chris Prime: Even though he's English.
Zach Sheets: Yes.
Chris Prime: It's like his Russian isn't bad. And. I just feel like he's like a very underrated actor just because. He just shows up in different roles. And I think what he's been in a few Guy Ritchie movies.
Chris Prime: But...
Zach Sheets: Hm? Hm?
Chris Prime: He's... Like a... He's got range. You know, he he is. He's an actor that basically if you If you need like an English guy that can also like.
Chris Prime: Be a villainous English guy? Like... he He was great in, I think, in Leave a Shrouding Gentleman.
Zach Sheets: Oh yeah.
Chris Prime: Not a great movie, but His part was fine. But yeah, then then at some point, just like... I don't know. He's in this movie for like... 20 minutes, maybe less.
Zach Sheets: Yeah. Mm. But he's he's like a pretty high up Russian mafia guy. And then... Uh, Statham follows him to his house and is like surveilling him.
Zach Sheets: And then... Very, very, it's like. The whole beginning of this movie is like very similar to The Beekeeper, where he's just like finding finding people and then... like Kind of holding him in like... Traps are like... perilous situations and then like gets the information from them and kills them.
Zach Sheets: Like, i him holding Jason Fleming over the pool was very similar to when Beekeeper really, like, helped, like... It was, like, a periodic guy in, like, the car and then sent the car over the cliff.
Chris Prime: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: I mean, it's that satisfying. Oh. Like. I'm gonna punish these elitist people.
Zach Sheets: Yeah, I'm killing my way up the chain.
Chris Prime: Mm hmm.
Zach Sheets: i'm fine i going getting the next Killing the next person up.
Chris Prime: What? The person he killed is... Kinda high up. It was.
Zach Sheets: Yeah, so he's like almost at the top of the chain already with like Jason Fleming, yeah.
Chris Prime: And then it he has to work himself back down. Which is... That's when the movie just becomes something else, where... I don't know in the book. It's just simpler. you know it's like okay he killed one guy then another that worked his way up
Zach Sheets: all right
Chris Prime: This one I feel like they had to extend some of the runtime so They added like a whole other group. before they get to... kind of the main The main, like...
Chris Prime: People responsible.
Zach Sheets: Well, Statham uses Google Translate or whatever he has on his phone because Jason Fleming like kind of curses in like Russian or says something in Russian and then he like figures out that he's cursing his son. Demi.
Zach Sheets: For like dragging him. It's like. like whatever situation this is. Cause he knows like.
Chris Prime: I'm surprised Jason Statham wasn't one of those. Like super. like, soldiers that instantly knows Russian.
Zach Sheets: It's like, yeah, like he says, like. Sounds like like... enjoy Enjoy your swim or something.
Chris Prime: Yeah. And then he's like, oh, I know what that means. and the villains are shocked he can speak Russian.
Zach Sheets: Yeah, he was just recording it, and he's able to use Google Translate to translate what he said.
Chris Prime: I mean, that's practical. I don't mind that.
Zach Sheets: right
Chris Prime: Because it's not the, like... Kvuffin. Movie. thing where You know, the guy doesn't. Like this is showing you that he has to do like research
Zach Sheets: But yeah, but this is what he calls his DEA friend who's in the this one scene. And it's the a friends like, hey. Uh, yo you know, you should like. She might go to this bar and, uh... order a drink so then so the safety goes to this like barkier bar outside chicago which i don't I don't know, like...
Zach Sheets: the The biker bar and then like later like the farmhouse, it kind of feels like it's like in the bayou. like It doesn't feel like it's like anywhere near Chicago.
Chris Prime: Yeah, it's like... They like the Louisiana. And.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: i I couldn't really figure if this was supposed to be Chicago or just like mashup city, you know? Because technically the nearest thing to Chicago and Chicagoland.
Chris Prime: That reminds you of a swamp? It's like...
Chris Prime: Ohio? You know, like it.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: And a very like. Southern. part of Ohio. because it's like you need humidity to have That kind of like. Look.
Zach Sheets: Yeah, because because the farmhouse later, it's like very it's like straight up just in a swamp. like it's in like like this crazy like It's like the Louisiana.
Chris Prime: And I told you a lot, but like... I've been to Chicago. I see family on Chicago. you You drive like... an hour and it's still more Chicago. You know, like it's...
Zach Sheets: Yeah. yeah
Chris Prime: It doesn't get. rustic looking until like i mean hours before you get to to chicago area because it looks just like any other metropolis like, city... and suburb.
Chris Prime: And then it has like. you know highway and then just factories or whatnot. I don't know where this is, where... He drove to the country. And the country's like a whole different climate.
Zach Sheets: okay
Zach Sheets: Yeah, it's like it's like a very like like. uh, you know, rural like Roadhouse biker bar that he's going to.
Chris Prime: Yeah, like... they better show like a you know in realistic terms and where they are That'd be next to like a shopping mall. You know, like it'd be.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm. Yep.
Chris Prime: near like a walmart and you can't have like a tough looking biker bar and then just like modern commerce.
Zach Sheets: Mm -hmm Also, Levin also has a motorcycle. Apparently, just somewhere he's keeping it. I don't know where he's keeping his motorcycle, but he just has one.
Chris Prime: I thought he just jacked some dude and took his motorcycle.
Zach Sheets: Not, I mean, later he does, yeah, but he rides up to the biker bar on a motor motorcycle, so I don't know where he got that motorcycle from.
Chris Prime: Oh. Does he have a garage that had it? No, I think he took the motorcycle from David Harbor.
Zach Sheets: Oh did he? Maybe.
Chris Prime: I think that's his first meeting with him. He's like, hey, and he's like, all right, well. Mike.
Zach Sheets: Take my hog.
Chris Prime: Because I don't think David Harbour could ride a motorcycle as a blind man.
Zach Sheets: Yeah. Yeah. Maybe. Maybe he's Daredevil. He can shoot a bow and arrow pretty good.
Chris Prime: That's true. Which is, when you think about it, so insane for his friend to do to another person.
Zach Sheets: just like yeah Just shoot, shoot. I'm going to shoot an arrow at this person. I hear someone coming. I'm going to shoot an arrow at them.
Chris Prime: Well, technically, he's like... Uh...
Zach Sheets: Practicing is like, standard.
Chris Prime: No, no. True, nothing against the law, this is a blind man who can't shoot an arrow in his own land. But. It reminds me of Hawkeye and Old Man Logan Hawkeye.
Zach Sheets: Mm -hmm.
Chris Prime: where Hawkeye's blind, but his like senses are like extended. So that's what David Harbour is, apparently.
Zach Sheets: Hey. Yep.
Zach Sheets: But yeah, but Stacey goes as Michael Barber, and then... It's this whole... middle part of the movie where he Pretends that he is a meth dealer. And he wants to, like...
Zach Sheets: Get a bunch of meth from the Spiker gang. And he goes into. I like that. the throne room of the spiker bar like it's like this other is room where it's like a set up like a
Chris Prime: Like a Mad Max style, post -apocalyptic.
Zach Sheets: like im Like a be easy i'm medieval... but Yeah.
Chris Prime: like hang out
Zach Sheets: There's like skull, X's and skulls on the wall and like the Dutch, the...
Chris Prime: And.
Zach Sheets: like but or a biker gang leader like sits on like a throne like a Motorcycle thrown.
Chris Prime: as i said it's almost like a it wants to be john witt because this is where they introduce the like heavy neon and... And like. gangs have an outfit like a like a dress code But...
Chris Prime: Yeah. It's sort of like. it it That part leans into how silly this is. And that kind of gets you warmed up of how silly it's gotta to be.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Zach Sheets: this This scene is like how the entirety of the beekeeper was. like The beekeeper is like in it like totally insane the entire time.
Chris Prime: I mean, the name itself and the whole... organization is crazy.
Zach Sheets: Yeah. Mm -hmm.
Chris Prime: Uh... For beekeepers. But. This is just like... keep going like that's i'm like i kind of wish this was a beekeeper sequel but I get it that that it's like a whole different thing and the tone is different.
Chris Prime: or the beekeeper.
Zach Sheets: that That's next year.
Chris Prime: Yeah.
Zach Sheets: Beekeeper Cues next year.
Chris Prime: But... For this, it's just like. This sort of satisfies the need for like ridiculous. reasons to... Like. Escalate.
Chris Prime: problems where it's not just like Jason Statham beats up. Low tier thugs. He's kind of like moving his way up through the crime world
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: And now...
Zach Sheets: But.
Chris Prime: and But that's... So. in the beginning i'll forget he just eliminated like a russian mob boss.
Zach Sheets: Yes.
Chris Prime: like by accident just like all right i did this but didn't realize how like
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: how it's going to piss off like everyone else. And then he's to start back from the bottom, taking on like... biker gang members like just kicking them and just showing how he's not just a random dude
Zach Sheets: Yeah. He has to prove that he's a cop. So then Dutch, like, sends a bunch of those guys to, like, fight him, and then Satan's like, piece of shit out of all of me is like All right. Yeah, you're not a cop. Yeah. And then it's like, they kind of have like a bonding thing because they're both in the, he's like, I'm in the airborne. You're like, you what are you with? He's like, I'm the Royal Marines. He's like, all right, brother. Let's talk business.
Zach Sheets: And then the Dutch says the titular line of like... Oh, these are working man's hands. You got working man's hands.
Zach Sheets: yeah But then it's yeah, this whole ruse of state Statham is going to be... running meth he wants like like a bunch of meth to sell so then they like get him in they start like getting him like shipments or he gets his first shipment and he's just like but he's just like throwing it off bridges and like dumping it down toilets and so he's like he's doing this like side mission of like i'm gonna i'm gonna rid some the world of some of them some meth while i'm doing this
Zach Sheets: But it seems all, like, super time consuming for, like... because Like, who knows how long Jenny has before she's, like, killed or worse? Like, so it's...
Chris Prime: Or just harvest it.
Zach Sheets: Yeah, what's going to happen to her? He's just like, well, I've got to pretend to be a meth dealer for a little bit here.
Zach Sheets: And I feel like he doesn't really get that much out of it. like The main thing he gets out of it is that he he sees and meets Demi, so he knows who Demi is. But then that's the but he like immediately blows it because he drives his truck back to like the biker but like biker bar.
Zach Sheets: he's like He's hiding it behind like the smallest shrub he could possibly find. like guess that like Is Chuck's name even hidden? And then...
Chris Prime: We're like. Other like the other scouts like spot them immediately.
Zach Sheets: Like right next to, it's like literally in the parking lot basically. He's just like sitting in his car his truck like doing surveillance and then... They're doing, so like, they have, like, somehow this biker group has, like, so like thermal imaging.
Zach Sheets: so they see him and it so he's like his is's like covers blow he's like oh he's not like he's like Surveilling us. Like, he's not who he says he is. Get him.
Chris Prime: Yeah, like... It's the course of like. A day? Yeah, he's been like a drug dealer.
Zach Sheets: Yeah. Yeah, who know who knows how long that that talk is? It's like, you spent all the time, like, you could have just, like... I don't know. Yeah. That's like, you know, do the take it thing is like just work your way up like beating people up and getting names, but he's like, I can do i can do this ruse.
Zach Sheets: I gotta to pretend to be a meth guy.
Chris Prime: Well, not even that. There's a whole thing where... Dutch is like, oh, before I introduce you to the... like my boss or my partner, you need to wear a suit.
Zach Sheets: Yeah. Yeah. We the ob we need read one scene where Statham wears a suit. we We can't have him in this like redneck like construction worker outfit the entire movie.
Zach Sheets: So yeah, so the one scene where he suits up and he goes to this fancy restaurant and meets Demi. It's like. a bigger a bigger load of meth. I think he dumps it down the like the restaurant's like bathroom.
Chris Prime: Mm -hmm.
Zach Sheets: He just steps out of the toilet.
Chris Prime: He's like just polluting the water with meth.
Zach Sheets: Hmm.
Chris Prime: now Uh. I think. In another. version there could have been a part where he has to keep asking him like maybe like his father -in -law for money. Cause it doesn't seem like.
Chris Prime: LeVon has a lot of money, so I don't know where he's getting all these material from. Or is he going back to David Harbour to be like, hey, I need a... I need like... Two grand to buy meth.
Zach Sheets: I don't... did i can't like he's offered money by michael pena He's like, here's like 50 grand. like for the job. Like, do it like...
Chris Prime: Oh.
Zach Sheets: so But then he's and like like his wife's like, oh, and here's like 20 grand for like expenses. So I don't know if he took that money. to like do his but all his stuff. because yeah he's He's dropping like...
Zach Sheets: Like. how much for like the math, like five grand each time or like 10 grand each time.
Chris Prime: Yeah. It was something where it's like a... Not like crazy amount, but it's like. This guy. Sleeps in his truck.
Zach Sheets: Yeah, i'm I'm assuming he at least maybe took like the 20 grand for expenses that they offered him, maybe. To like, like like you know. doing Do stuff. I don't know if he had to buy that camera that he has rigged up in his truck, or if he just had that.
Zach Sheets: He's got, like, crazy, like, telescoping, like, camera setup that he has to instruct for, like, surveillance.
Chris Prime: Yeah. which i think did he abandon his truck after this like that it all like there's equipment in it
Zach Sheets: I mean, he yeah, he did. He like run out and they he stole a motorcycle and then like left in a motorcycle and lefts just left his truck at the bar. Because so there's a whole like big chase through the forest where he's on a motorcycle getting chased by like the guy like guys.
Zach Sheets: Like, the Russian guys. Or the biker gang.
Chris Prime: Which they went. hog wild and the whole like let's chase everything that's like wo hoot and holler
Zach Sheets: Yeah. Hmm.
Zach Sheets: And then he gets picked up by... well he crashes. It ends up on top of a police car, up but the police are... corrupt cops who are getting paid by the Russian mob. So then...
Chris Prime: I don't know if they're being paid by the Russian mob. I think they're being paid by the biker gang.
Zach Sheets: No, they like the... the the The brothers, the Ali G brothers show up and like, like.
Chris Prime: Oh.
Zach Sheets: You didn't see anything. Get some money.
Chris Prime: You think they already were corrupt or like?
Zach Sheets: I think the RE Cup, because like later they also delivered Jetty back to like the...
Chris Prime: Oh, true. True. true
Zach Sheets: farmed Like, oh, sorry.
Chris Prime: I only say that because later on in the movie, it doesn't seem like... the other Part of the mob recognizes them.
Zach Sheets: Mm.
Zach Sheets: Well, yeah, it's it's weird because it seems like they work for Demi because they bring Jenny back to like the farmhouse, but then... The Ali G brothers work for like the mate the the big boss, like the... like the
Chris Prime: The uncle.
Zach Sheets: what's what's Yeah, the uncle. goal
Chris Prime: Ooh, I think his name's like...
Zach Sheets: It was like... Uh, Simon.
Chris Prime: Yeah. Yeah. That's spelled with a Y.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: Yeah, so Simon is like sort of the one in charge of this division. And it's like. His guys don't recognize. What's going on in that side?
Zach Sheets: Mm -hmm.
Zach Sheets: And then like the Ali Chi brothers like are like his sons. And then Statham, like, kills both of them in, like, the van. Like, they're in, like, a van, like, bringing them back to, like, wherever they're gonna take them. And he may just, like, break out and kill them. Like, he kills them.
Zach Sheets: And then crashes the van, like dumps in the water.
Chris Prime: And he doesn't even use like a... construction pond or anything.
Zach Sheets: This is...
Chris Prime: He's not like... agree.
Zach Sheets: This is the scene. Yeah, this is the scene where he breaks up a toolbox and then does use like a hammer at one point. So a little bit of construction stuff going on, but not, but then. That's the only part where he actually fights a guy with a...
Zach Sheets: A tool.
Chris Prime: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: Or he's like, the job's done. Like, nothing.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Zach Sheets: But then he's they's kind of like... Like... hes like like He kind of like takes a break for a little bit. like He doesn't really do... much investigation stuff he kind of just like he's like he has to go rescue his father -in -law because they They managed to figure out who he is. they Simon goes to Demi.
Zach Sheets: At his, like... I don't even know what the theme of his like nightclub is that he... I don't know if he owns it or he just like goes there, but it's like a... It's almost like French Revolution? Like, Maria Twinette? Like, everyone's in, like... powdered wigs and also like it's like Insane costumes.
Zach Sheets: I mean, he's something like a crazy, like, like. pink, ruffled... like Jack Sparrow jacket.
Chris Prime: Yeah, I laughed at that. That is a decision. I don't know Who does that design that but.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: It does look like a crazy music video.
Zach Sheets: Mm -hmm
Chris Prime: It just doesn't make any sense to make it intimidating. And it I think this is to show you how, like... Foppish? Demi is...
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Zach Sheets: Oh, and we also, we we have much to, like... The. The other the other like Russian mob, like the War Council, because like Simon's like, but we need to convene a War Council. So like all the other guys, they're like the heads of the Russian mob.
Zach Sheets: They... give One of the other guys gives him like two enforcers. like One is like looks like Uncle Fester. And then one looks like like like a rejection from The Matrix.
Chris Prime: Yeah.
Zach Sheets: And they're like, they're like the two, or they like the two enforcers are going to help him like find Jesus David and kill him.
Zach Sheets: And then they figure out who he actually is, because... they because I guess somehow because of the... Because Statham gives Demi a fake driver's license and they run it.
Zach Sheets: But then then they have like a hacker. who figure like It's like like hacking to like get all of his records and all of his military records and everything. Just based on that license, I guess.
Chris Prime: I mean, he's got the same face. It's not even like he's wearing a beard or like a different image. Probably just like a...
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: The simple face recognition one. Yep, that's this guy shows them a lot of databases.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Zach Sheets: And then, they yeah, they they go and attack Dr. Roth and burn down his house. And then Statham has to show up and like rescue him. And even after he rescues him, Dead Ross is like... you Look at this. You're causing so much trouble.
Zach Sheets: Your daughter's not safe with you. His daughter has to be like, well, he didn't save your life, Grandpa. And he's like, oh, yeah, you're right, I guess.
Chris Prime: Yeah.
Zach Sheets: Fine. He's like, he could have left you in there.
Chris Prime: Could have won his divorce case, like his guardian case.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: But even then, like. It'd look bad for Statham. They'll just say, like, okay, hey, so, like, your father -in -law died in a house fire? like
Zach Sheets: I mean, it could have just been an accident. like we like no no No one really knows what happened in there.
Chris Prime: True. What? and I mean, say this character, we're not questioning his moral, like his morality. Like we know he was a good guy.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: the gra The grandfather's just being a dick. He's just like, how dare you save me? How dare, like... I know like... he's got the grandfather has like a reasonable thing where he's like hey Trouble follows you.
Zach Sheets: Mm -hmm You're putting your daughter in danger like your daughter's in danger when she's around if she's around you because like it's just like trouble and death follow you
Chris Prime: And.
Chris Prime: And I think, again, it would have been a great thing where it's like. They could have hinted at that. This happened before.
Chris Prime: Like, oh. Remember last year?
Chris Prime: Is that something in the book? I'm not sure if the... The father is like... The same, you know?
Zach Sheets: There even is like a father -in -law character.
Chris Prime: Mhm. every book every other book he shows up and he's like still putting my grand daughter in danger
Zach Sheets: but You still got that court case. You're not escaping court. You still got that custody hearing.
Zach Sheets: But yeah, but then... So he brings... his daughter to David Harbour. David Harbour kind of like does like... this is like when it like is like full just like john weck where he's like neil harper's like i'll be your weapon sommelier It's like, here's all here's all our choices tonight. it's
Zach Sheets: And so yeah he yeah you he loads the of weapons and then... I feel like Statham knew where Dimi was going to be the like the entire time, so he could have just gone there whenever he wanted.
Chris Prime: I... Don't know if that was... Like... If like. Dutch. pointed it out because he did say that like dimmy has like a hangout pad or something So that's something where like...
Chris Prime: He had to earn that information.
Zach Sheets: but Yeah, I mean, it... It kind of seems like Statham's wasting but some time a little bit. And like luckily... like jenny just keeps looking out with like reason like reasons that they're not killing her or like keeping her like alive Where it's like...
Zach Sheets: They were going to, like... The first time she was like supposed to be like... you know give it to like the client which i love they drag her in in like a suitcase
Chris Prime: I think it's so like.
Zach Sheets: It's like...
Chris Prime: they hadt They didn't fly her anywhere. you know like It seems like everything's within the like the same town. So I don't know. What happened?
Zach Sheets: they shove her in like a giant suitcase and like wheel her in and the clients and then like Offscreen she like bites the client's face like cheek off and he has to get like three six stitches And then so that keeps her that kind of keeps her like...
Zach Sheets: From... whatever was happening before. And then... They're like, oh, well, you gotta kill you gotta kill her. like She costs us money. like kill Kill her. and But then... It's like...
Zach Sheets: Luckily, the client's like, Oh, i want I want her alive to, like, torture her now. So, like, keep her alive. and That basically keeps her, like... for being like killed in the swap.
Chris Prime: Like, instantly taken care of.
Zach Sheets: which Which, I mean, look yeah, luckily it gives Statham more time, but like he's like should like... I feel like he needs to decrease the pace a little bit. He's dragging his feet a little bit.
Zach Sheets: Doing stuff.
Zach Sheets: I do like that she, like, Jenny, she used to show off, like, her karate skills, like, her fighting skills, when she, like, breaks out of their car. car.
Chris Prime: Yeah, she does put up a fight and... It kind of explained gives her like... I guess an extra day of not being eliminated from the movie.
Zach Sheets: o
Chris Prime: Uh...
Zach Sheets: Oh, I got to mention, too, like... I first noticed in this scene, but then it's the rest of the scenes that are at the farmhouse, like, did you notice how... big the moon was in the background.
Chris Prime: Yeah.
Zach Sheets: The moon is... fucking huge in like the background of every single scene that's at at the farmhouse like it looks like the moons can collide with the earth
Chris Prime: I gotta see that again. because I wasn't really paying attention.
Zach Sheets: Like it's...
Chris Prime: That, but...
Zach Sheets: like like It's clearly like clearly on some sort of soundstage or something because it's like in the background. There's an element of the background. But it's it's gigantic. like It's the biggest moon you've ever seen.
Chris Prime: can't look away and you're like, what's happening? this Is it a sci -fi movie now?
Zach Sheets: Yeah. and It's so it's so like obvious. and like just Dead center of every shot.
Chris Prime: Well, they need like the lighting, I guess. from it right to make it seem everything's bathed in like the moonlight and shadow
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: But they didn't consider that we could just have that lighting without without like... A giant. cartoon moon
Zach Sheets: Yeah, you could apply moonlight without having a like a giant You just have rays of like light coming down. yeah Definitely definitely like pay attention. like It's first in the scene when Jenny gets on the road and she's like... Like.
Zach Sheets: Stops the cop car. You see it like behind her. is like It's like a giant moon spotlight.
Zach Sheets: But yeah, it's the same crops that we saw getting paid earlier. So they take her to the farmhouse, and then she's kind of like... locked in a room. but then luckily this is like it's like this one statement like finally is like all right I'm i'm locked and loaded I'm gonna go and like Rescue her.
Zach Sheets: which you He like break you like infiltrates Demi's nightclub and like kills all his guys. and like shoots him in the hand like forces him to bring it Bring him to the farmhouse.
Zach Sheets: And then like they have their like confrontation where he's just like, why you do it is why are you doing this for some girl? And he's just like, do you have a daughter? He's like, no. He's like, you wouldn't understand. He shoots him in the swamp.
Chris Prime: Yeah. Demi just sort of gets taken out, like, uncharismatously. Cheers.
Zach Sheets: Yep.
Chris Prime: And not even with a construction weapon. you know like
Zach Sheets: Again, yeah.
Chris Prime: I thought this is where the nail gun shows up.
Zach Sheets: Nail gun, yeah, like yeah so like a saw, like like some some sort of construction. thing.
Zach Sheets: and Like a...
Chris Prime: Yeah, he just started Yeah. yeahs Something where it's like...
Zach Sheets: A welder.
Chris Prime: Just... Maybe even the shotgun he's been carrying or like showing in the. The... The beginning of the movie. He teases about...
Zach Sheets: Love you, sir. Yeah, well, now he's loaded up with, like, an M17 or something that Gunny gives him. It's like.
Chris Prime: Yeah. yeah the automatic rifle.
Zach Sheets: This is... you're familiar with this one aren't you're with this friend, aren't you? He's like, I say something like... i i use I don't want to be it again, but I have to.
Zach Sheets: and then And it's just like full of infiltration mode. like He shows up at the farmhouse and he's just like taking guys out with knives. and But. So it's pistols and...
Zach Sheets: And then... But then like it goes. He just, like, decides to go loud and, like, throws a grenade at, like like, the middle of the room and just, like, blows up, like, a bunch of guys and it's, like... and then like everyone starts running around because it's also like a the farmhouse is like an illegal like casino too
Chris Prime: It's like everything. There's like every... part of that place has like different sections where it's like this is a sex club this is the casino this is where people
Zach Sheets: Vice.
Chris Prime: I guess, change into their... Like... dirty, rich people clothes?
Zach Sheets: Yeah, yeah like again, like everyone in this club are dressed like it's like... and Like the 1800s or something? were Like.
Chris Prime: Not even like the 1800s.
Zach Sheets: The opera. Like...
Chris Prime: No, but it's like they're all wearing off -white. Outfits?
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: And... Like it's. formal wear, but... Hey. It's just like... This is like a cult. They all wear like the the like shitty...
Chris Prime: Uh, like... like art piece. clothes i don't describe it besides like if there's a visual aid but
Zach Sheets: a
Chris Prime: Essentially, it's the like. They were so decadent, they're basically in a fake version of Versailles.
Zach Sheets: Yes.
Chris Prime: because the the mansion is designed to be like you know multi -roomed and then There's all this like... you know, there's like a sex torture dungeon in the basement, I guess. And.
Zach Sheets: I think that...
Zach Sheets: i think this the torture room's upstairs i think because like stahans to go up they have to go upstairs like But. And go downstairs. and like get you out, but...
Chris Prime: Mm -mm. But okay. But... But like. the the Like... For what they're doing, it doesn't seem like the rich people themselves have security.
Zach Sheets: No.
Chris Prime: You know, I think everyone in that place is high to do society. and evil, but... Like... They didn't bring a gun.
Zach Sheets: there's just like There's a couple guys on the floor. There's a couple of guys outside the building. And that's pretty much it.
Chris Prime: Because Statham kind of takes out all the the security. And then like, there's no.
Zach Sheets: And then the... but then it's like then the biker game shows up because like the dutch gets a call of like Hey, they're attacking Demi's farmhouse. We gotta to go out and help them. So they all they all ride out, and then like they're like the main like threat that's attacking Statham.
Chris Prime: Yeah, they're like the muscle, but they didn't the building itself didn't really have any muscles.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Zach Sheets: There was like it was like six guys. The state took all of them out. with like the first like 10 minutes.
Zach Sheets: Which... And then like, it's it's also funny, like Dutch, Dutch is like the final fight, basically. Like he's like the main fight against Statham.
Chris Prime: Mm -hmm.
Zach Sheets: Which, and then... There's such a weird moment where like... it's like Like, Statham gets the upper hand and is go is winning, and then, like, Dutch is like... finish what you gotta do, man. And then he's like, all right, brother. And then like, minute like that's like the most brutal kill to him. Like, stabs into the throat with a knife. and he But he's just like...
Zach Sheets: Good night, brother. And, like, closes his eyes.
Chris Prime: I know, he's like... You fought well. it's like did Did he?
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: I feel like Statham...
Zach Sheets: I respect you, brother. so i get you know like
Chris Prime: Yeah, like, Seatham just kinda just shoved the knife - deeper and that's it but it's like You kind of gave the guy, like... hell before he died.
Zach Sheets: Yeah, he cuts him in the armpit. like He stabs him a bunch of times. Jams it through his throat. It was like a finishing move. And he's just like, good night, sweet prince.
Zach Sheets: okay
Chris Prime: You fought with honor. Titty!
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Zach Sheets: I respect your military. career.
Chris Prime: You know, it would be funny if at the end he just sort of like insults the Airborne. It'd be bad taste, but it's just like... It's like you also were a working man, but I'm the better working man
Zach Sheets: It would have been cool if, like, Dutch didn't realize they were, like, human trafficking. He's like, i don I don't deal with this shit. Like, take these guys out. like And then, i like, fought with Statham.
Chris Prime: but Yeah, I could see that.
Zach Sheets: I ain't set up for human trafficking.
Chris Prime: He kind of has a change of heart moment.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: Or even... He realizes like his his like how evil he's become. One of those like, oh no, I'm the monster. like You know, it's like. That should have gave a speech where it's like.
Chris Prime: For years, like, I fought guys. That did this. And now I've become one. Like. I can't live like this.
Chris Prime: But... Nah, he's just sort of like... They just have like a... A bonding moment. Sort of like they had body moments earlier because it seems like they were going to be fast friends.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: That kind of doesn't go anywhere And then... Yeah, this is the like. Like, oh. It's working man versus working man moment.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: And uh... I think Statham was just like... dispatching him just like as you would a regular guy.
Zach Sheets: Yum!
Zach Sheets: I guess maybe he made it he made it quick. Just... Like...
Chris Prime: Did he? He made it like super painful.
Zach Sheets: quick and like the most painful way possible.
Chris Prime: Yeah.
Zach Sheets: And then then he goes upstairs and, like, Viper and Artemis are no threat, basically. Like, he's like... Shatham's say them just like throws like viper all across the room like smashes his head in like all the cement and then Jenny. kills artemis herself like she does like the like like a black widow style, like. Raptors are like... like Legs are around her neck and strangles her.
Chris Prime: I think what sounds like breaks her neck too, right?
Zach Sheets: like It's like... Yeah, it's like Jenny Kildegott in person. It's like she says... Seems like she's totally fine with it.
Chris Prime: Yeah, normally... Some people would be like, oh my god, I can't believe I just killed this person, but it's like, Jenny was so, like... She didn't have any qualms of killing.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: I think like. But. the torture and the whole what her situation was she's just like nah it I will murder these like human traffickers. That's fine.
Zach Sheets: Well, she's just like, I think I killed her. and say was like Good. And then they then they get out, and then... of... The two, the two other, like the two enforced, like Oka Fester and like the Maitre guy show up, but then.
Zach Sheets: They just get they get killed like... pretty much instantly there's like there's like no no big fight with them like State that pulls out, like he apparently had a... He's got like a screen on his chest.
Chris Prime: A Bluetooth screen.
Zach Sheets: A Bluetooth screen to like the scope of his gun so you can see. what the scope sees, and he it takes it takes out like the the Matrix guy. With like a shot. And then. Just throws a grenade to Uncle Fester and blows him up.
Chris Prime: So I'm wondering if there's a... that actually was a product. you know and it's like subtly this is like a promotion for it
Zach Sheets: It's like yeah like did you see the trailer for like it came out like actually today we're recording it's like the the Jim Caviezel movie Ghost Soldier
Chris Prime: Yep.
Zach Sheets: We're...
Chris Prime: where it's almost like a bootleg splitter cell.
Zach Sheets: It's like Ghost Recon.
Chris Prime: Yeah.
Zach Sheets: Yeah. He's got the stealth suit and everything. The stealth cape and everything.
Chris Prime: Yeah, that that i I didn't mind if... That movie. he's just like He's so good, he's just like a ghost in the night.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: But he legit was like, I also have like fantasy technology. I was like,
Zach Sheets: I... I have advanced warfighter technology.
Chris Prime: And then in this movie. It's just like say that has like an LED screen that. Like. can see infrared
Zach Sheets: He uses once.
Chris Prime: once yeah and then that's it like it's just it's reasonable enough and it's used for like the right situation and it it's not even the The like. The thing that kills like the big bad.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: It literally was just like, a grenade.
Zach Sheets: Yep. It's like, you know what I'm saying? Like... the the The guy doesn't even move. He's just like. Oh shit. And it blows up. Are you pregnant? You can jump out of the way or... Thank you. Do something.
Chris Prime: Could have just... Yeah, like... it Just like not just be like, well, that's it.
Zach Sheets: oh there's also the weird like at the end too where everyone's dead and like satan like leaves the gun and like it's kind of like goodbye old friend and then just like leaves the gun
Chris Prime: I wouldn't leave the gun. Honestly, like there's so many other things like you still need that gun later.
Zach Sheets: he yeah He doesn't know if there are people outside. I guess he has like his silenced pistol. but like and and And luckily, like I think Gunny said like the... the serial numbers filed off so like no one no one can trace it.
Chris Prime: So you can go nuts? because shoot up like Yeah, a sex trafficking ring and...
Zach Sheets: Mhm.
Chris Prime: No one will be the wiser. Oh. Well, we realize the cops in this town are... all corrupt or something.
Zach Sheets: Some of the... A bunch of them are, maybe. For this to have happened in the short time.
Chris Prime: But, like... Two? Only two people kind of get their poetic justice. The rest... Sort of get away with it.
Zach Sheets: Oh yeah, they look the cops show up and then... the guy who looks like he's from the matrix like pulls out his like giant like m60 like blows up the cop car
Chris Prime: So that's what I'm saying, like... Aren't you guys all on the same team?
Zach Sheets: Gosh. I guess it was just kill happy. I guess it was like. Might kill everybody.
Zach Sheets: And then stay in Statham and Jenny leave on like a motorcycle and then Simon's up there. and But he doesn't do anything. yeah I don't even think he has a gun. He just, like, watches them leave, and then he calls... like, the War Council, and then the the main guy at the War Council is like,
Zach Sheets: the devil got what he wanted let him go and he's like And if you, if you don't, we'll kill you. And it says, it's like the Darth Vader, like, yeah, no.
Chris Prime: It's so over the top. Acting.
Zach Sheets: Hmm.
Chris Prime: I really wish there was like. More of a, like, okay, I will get my revenge later. But no, this guy scream screams into the heavens.
Zach Sheets: in The sequel. yeah
Chris Prime: And it's just like... It's just, like, not convincing. I'm not saying I'm a better actor. I'm not, but...
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: I'm just like, yeah, that seemed like a... Like a Tim and Eric sketch.
Zach Sheets: it would have been a classic like could have It's going to be the classic, like... like simage like if they have a confrontation like a sequel or something it's just like you took everything from me and then say something like i don't even know who you are
Chris Prime: Yeah, how long have they ever talked?
Zach Sheets: No, they never – yeah. Yeah, they they've never like confronted each other. it's it's It's like Fifth Element we talked about a couple weeks ago. The two main villains don't like have an SC together.
Zach Sheets: There's got like one passing scene.
Zach Sheets: and it was all And it was all, like, everything that happened to Simon was, like, accidental to, like, or incidental to what? Nathan was trying to do. like He's like killed a bunch of like like his family members and like.
Chris Prime: Yep.
Zach Sheets: enforcers because they were just like
Chris Prime: In his way.
Zach Sheets: happened to be in his way.
Chris Prime: I mean, that's fine. That's the... The... like, vigilante justice. architect
Zach Sheets: Hmm?
Chris Prime: story where the main hero kills people. And then. It's like oh, no, they they just seem like a threat so I took them out like that's my only reason It wasn't anything bigger than that.
Chris Prime: But the villains can't comprehend that. They're like, no, you must be working for like another rival gang. or
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: you know, You must be some... Government assassin.
Zach Sheets: so It's all just coincidence.
Zach Sheets: And then, yeah, and say he states it gets Jenny home safely, and then he goes to Gunny's house and has, like, you know... breakfast with his daughter and he's like He's like your home brother.
Chris Prime: I think it would have been funnier if just like... Honestly, the next... levon book i mean you we did mention it where it's like He just really completely like starts like something crazy where it's like... I'll throw out the garbage.
Chris Prime: And then like. I accidentally killed a man. like You know what I mean? like it It just...
Zach Sheets: yeah
Chris Prime: there's There's not even this where he just needed the money. Because... when If you think about it, the construction guy just was like... I need to find the toughest guy. who I employ.
Chris Prime: You know?
Zach Sheets: yeah I think my foreman used to be a military guy.
Chris Prime: Let me hire him. It's just it's easy for me. inconvenience to hire him. than it is to i don't know go on the black market because it seems like that city has that to hire a hired gun or a biker gang, like another biker gang.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Zach Sheets: Yeah, I think the the second book in the series... it it seems like some like for some reason Like, Levin's in Maine? And then a bunch of guys like show up because they have like there's like a...
Zach Sheets: A cache of stolen money? And then... It's just like... Love. Levin happens to be there and just like kills them all. Because they're like attacking the town to get the money.
Chris Prime: That's like a big... Action Trope. where it's like this guy's like, I like this town. I will kill to protect it.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm. Levitt's Night. That's the second book. the one the one this The one this movie is based on is Levin's Trade. It's the name of the book.
Zach Sheets: And his trade is killing.
Chris Prime: Killing's good.
Zach Sheets: But yeah, this is i mean this this is a... Solid state the movie. It's not my favorite state the movie. like This is like solid mid -tier Statham.
Chris Prime: No.
Chris Prime: It's passable to kind of get your fix of Statham. Just kicking. Like, hi. Like. Crime bosses? or Or just like...
Chris Prime: going through the underworld again. Uh... Sometimes I see, I think about like... Wrath of man. And I realize it's a little more of the same structure where he infiltrates things. like he He's... he kind of has to live with the consequences of being...
Chris Prime: like in in being like crime related even though in wrath of man like it's not like a rival gang gets his son he just
Zach Sheets: He, like, he he... Like, he's the crime boss in Wrath of Man.
Chris Prime: Yeah, it's like different.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: So... This is more. You know, back to basic Statham stories. I still got to see like the Light Keeper, whatever that one that was called.
Zach Sheets: Oh, shelter?
Chris Prime: You a shelter?
Zach Sheets: that Yeah, that was early this year. That. I'd probably work even above Shelter.
Chris Prime: Wow, that's how bad Shelter was?
Zach Sheets: I mean, it wasn't. bad it was just like not like it was kind of like that one was even like more generic like that was like the most generic like state of the movie you could like that was like the the like basic formula you'd expect for her to state the movie it follows that exactly
Chris Prime: Okay. That's another thing. It's like this does follow the formula. This like one of the formula things, but.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Chris Prime: they do add in a few Like, new twist. Which is... you know, Him trying to be a drug dealer for like a hot second. Uh... Him having a father -in -law he deals with.
Chris Prime: by just ignoring.
Zach Sheets: Mm -hmm.
Chris Prime: Uh... I don't know, his day job? like Trying to be a construction worker.
Zach Sheets: yeah i think you know all the recent statham movies like i think i just i prefer like the uh Like the absolute like insanity of the beekeeper. At least least they had like personality and like, just like. Was completely over the top.
Zach Sheets: it was and It was like that was like. It was at crank level, but it was like close. It was just like. Statham is like unstoppable. He's killing like a thousand guys. it's It's got all the weird John Wick like beekeeper stuff in it.
Zach Sheets: Like, whatever this secret society is.
Chris Prime: Mm hmm.
Zach Sheets: It's like the bag the bad guy turns out to be like the president.
Chris Prime: Yeah, like he keeps escalating. The beekeeper is hard to top just for like... how ridiculous it gets it Keeps going.
Chris Prime: That's why I was expecting more. It's like, okay, ooh, high society, maybe be government workers, and then... Sort of like... the mayor of the town or something, but...
Chris Prime: No, it's just like... a very isolated group
Zach Sheets: Mm -hmm.
Chris Prime: And we still never get, like, who killed his wife or how did his wife die?
Zach Sheets: I mean, I believe Statham that was suicide.
Chris Prime: Yeah.
Zach Sheets: I don't think it was some sort of conspiracy. and Let's say when I get it, like that'd be like the... one of the sequels that they make a sequel to this like oh no it's actually like this this guy killed your wife it's like oh i gotta kill them now
Chris Prime: That's something. That's like story structure. You just can't mention a dead wife and be like, oh, okay. Do we need to take a photo of her? No budget for that? Okay.
Zach Sheets: I think he he gives his daughter like a photo of like, it's like. Here's a photo of your mother and you. He's like, oh, thanks. Grandpa hid all the photos of of mom for some reason.
Chris Prime: this He goes... Because the spirit's got her.
Zach Sheets: It's like... it's like we're in we're like working man like four or something it's like it just goes completely supernatural
Chris Prime: Yeah.
Zach Sheets: I gotta to go to hell.
Chris Prime: There's a job in hell that needs fixing.
Zach Sheets: Yeah, and and hopeful hopeful hopefully Mutiny is... like a good state of the movie like we neither of us have seen it yet because we're recording this like i think you know right what's it's out like in the previews but i'm definitely gonna try to see it uh this coming weekend or like next week sometime.
Chris Prime: I'll probably wait Let's see how you feel. Yeah.
Zach Sheets: I mean, like, did you see plane?
Chris Prime: no
Zach Sheets: the dry butler movie like that was like a like a salad like one of the best like recent dry butler movies so i'm Like. optimistic about like That director working with Statham for like a... Like a...
Chris Prime: Yeah, its it seems like on paper, it sounds like a great mashup.
Zach Sheets: Mm hmm.
Zach Sheets: it's And it's just like, Statham, he's on a boat, he's like, kill everyone on the boat. That's all you need to know. I think they i think that that also is human trafficking, though. like He finds like it's like a human trafficking boat.
Chris Prime: You know, it's like they should really combine the best parts of Statham's. uh Like... the The formula. Like, his his best... like Bits. Where it's like, he drives a car, he fights a prehistoric animal.
Chris Prime: He's stopping some sort of drug. ring
Zach Sheets: he's He's a former Special Forces... operator who is trying trying to live a normal life. And then he gets drawn back in. He has a daughter.
Chris Prime: He's trying to take care of a little girl. Doesn't always have to be his daughter.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: That's like another thing about his movies. Uh... and then maybe there's a love interest that he has to like win over Some movies he has to win when the love interest over, like this like romantic... person he's been trying to woo.
Chris Prime: And other times it's like. Oh, they're like another co -worker, but like it just never worked out for us. But maybe this mission will like bring us closer.
Zach Sheets: I feel like the last few, he hasn't had like a love interest at all. He hasn't time for it. Like beekeeper working man shelter. like he hasn't had like there hasn't been any sort of like love interest or anything It's like...
Chris Prime: Didn't Expandables 4, one of them was like Megan Fox?
Zach Sheets: It's... It was Megan Fox, yeah.
Chris Prime: Do they get together at the end?
Zach Sheets: Well, like, Megafox was an expendable, and then there were, like, a couple, but they were, like, this, like... super volatile couple. But then she gets like... Like, she is on a mission with them in X -Men 4 to, like, go on the the boat.
Chris Prime: Right, and then it brings him closer, doesn't it?
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: See? And that's, like, the last one. That's the last Jason Statham movie where, like... He's vulnerable. Because even in, like, the transporter... If there is a love interest, it's like... Alright, like, you know what this is.
Zach Sheets: Yep.
Chris Prime: I'll not see you in the sequel.
Zach Sheets: I think in Meg 2, he was married to like the the woman from the first movie, the Meg, and then they killed her off screen. It's like, oh, your mother died.
Zach Sheets: Because he's a daughter of Meg too, but it's like... Oh, I miss your mother. She died.
Chris Prime: Tragically by another Meg.
Zach Sheets: Yeah.
Chris Prime: But you're don't worry, the Chinese government helped.
Zach Sheets: Yep.
Zach Sheets: but uh yes check out working man it's it's on it's on amazon because this is like a mgm movie so obviously i think it's mgm goes to amazon So this is going to be like permanently on there.
Zach Sheets: yeah definite Definitely check the site probably next week for a Mutiny review. if Hopefully I'll be able to see that. like early next week.
Chris Prime: Zach you've probably seen it. You just didn't know you've seen it
Zach Sheets: I don't know, but like when this goes up... I haven't seen it but like but Yeah, by next week i I'll have seen it probably. by by time by time with
Chris Prime: i' saying I think you might have seen it by just watching enough of these Statham movies.
Zach Sheets: Oh, by just like the structure? Yeah. I did see... the end of oak street you can read my review of that on site uh this week And you can check out the site next week. We're going to have our...
Zach Sheets: Commentary for Carnosaur, speaking of dinosaurs, so that's a very monthly commentary. they'll be up next week and then also Our Gamebox 2 .0, our game reviews for the month are also going to be up next week. So check out those out on the site.
Zach Sheets: And then check out the other stuff we got out there. We got news reviews, trailers, that kind of stuff. So head over and check all that stuff out. And yes, I'm Chris. I am Zach. And we will see you next time.
