Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello, you are listening to the Daily English Premier League podcast on the Global Sports Podcast Network. My name is Louis Easton, and we've got a very special episode today because it is the international break and we're running

Team of the Season Discussion

00:00:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
out of ideas. So why not just throw everything into it? So we are doing our, so far, I know there are nine matches to go,
00:01:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
For most teams, but our team of the season so far. I've tried to get multiple guests on and these three were the only three that could actually turn up.
00:01:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we've got a great turnout. Marley from Nottingham Forest, how are you doing, mate?
00:01:17
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:01:21
Marley_ Forest
I'm doing decent. The best... underdog team, so to speak, represented by the best shirt the Premier League produced this season. and And based off the leaked kits that came out midweek, think going to have the best away shirt next season as well.
00:01:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, I'm sure we'll do our kits ranking at some point as well. ah Michael from the Newcastle podcast. ah We meet again. How are you? And if you mention that final, I will kick you off this call.
00:01:47
Michael - NUFC
All right, well, this is going to be short and sweet.
00:01:48
Marley_ Forest
That's a good one.
00:01:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh,
00:01:50
Michael - NUFC
How does everyone do? If we're talking about kits, Newcastle the only one that have an official winner's kit released now, so I

Manager of the Season Debate

00:01:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh
00:01:57
Michael - NUFC
can't remember who would be in the final.
00:01:58
Michael - NUFC
No, it is Tim Pot, but I love it.
00:02:00
Marley_ Forest
Thank you.
00:02:01
Michael - NUFC
That's all I have to say about that.
00:02:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's it It's very Tim Pot, but 70 years is a long way. ah Let's hope it's another 70 years. Kieran from the Manchester United podcast ah joins us as well.
00:02:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Hopefully a more humble introduction from yourself, please.
00:02:18
Kieran McGinley - MU
Look, we're just doing our best. ah if you don If you can't, if you don't laugh, if you'll cry. So I'm laughing, trying to take it on the chin.
00:02:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank
00:02:27
Kieran McGinley - MU
And look, the bottom half of the table isn't that bad.
00:02:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
you.
00:02:29
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:02:30
Kieran McGinley - MU
We're still in a major European tournament. ah so That's all I've got. Oh,
00:02:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, if you win that, you'll be in another one next season.
00:02:36
Michael - NUFC
Oof.
00:02:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's the only way you'll be in it.
00:02:38
Kieran McGinley - MU
no.
00:02:38
Michael - NUFC
oh
00:02:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:02:40
Kieran McGinley - MU
Rough.
00:02:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah yeah And he will have some backup joining later on because Ishan, ah one of our reggae members from the Daily English Premier League podcast, will be joining. And he'll also be contributing to this team.
00:02:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Now, we're going to go position by position. The way we're going to do this is I'm going to come to all three of you individually. If there is a tie, then I will ah decide on who goes in based on the best argument that you give.
00:03:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And we'll just go position by position. We're also going to be doing our manager of the season so far and our youngster of the season so far. So we're doing 21 and under.
00:03:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
None of this 22 nonsense. None of that Cole Palmer and none of that Amadiello, Kieran McGinley. Thank you very much.
00:03:25
Kieran McGinley - MU
Boo. Boo.
00:03:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um...
00:03:27
Kieran McGinley - MU
Yes.
00:03:28
Michael - NUFC
and
00:03:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, we'll start off with the manager, I think. I think that's the best way to start this off. And I will read out some names before we um ah before I go to each of you with your ah choice.
00:03:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
So for manager, Andoni Iriola, Arna Slott, Unai Emery, Nuno Espirito Santo, Eddie Howe, Thomas Frank, Marco Silva, Enzo Maresca, Fabian Hursler, and Oliver Glasner are the names that I've picked out.
00:03:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm assuming you've gone for one of them. If not, ah your argument is very welcome. And Kieran, I'll go to you first. Who's your pick for manager of the season?
00:04:04
Kieran McGinley - MU
I think i'll I'm pretty much goingnna speak for all of you, apart from maybe maybe Michael. I'm going put Nuno in there. um He's been phenomenal. He has turned that Forest team around. And it's short of calling it anti-football, but it's it's working. It's effective. This counter-attacking football is back and it's proven really, really effective. Yes, Forrest don't hold onto the ball for long, but they don't need to. They can absorb that pressure counter quickly. I mean, Chris Wood up top as well is just so dangerous. We know that as Manchester United, how dangerous Chris Wood is.
00:04:36
Kieran McGinley - MU
and So, yeah, Nuno's done a fantastic job and um'm I'm happy to put him as my vote.
00:04:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and as a Liverpool fan as well, I also know how good Chris Wood is. He's caused me a lot of stress this season. And I think it's only fitting that I come to you next, Marley, as well. I'm sure you've gone for the same thing.
00:04:55
Marley_ Forest
Yes, I'm going to try not to big up my own team too much in this episode, although it will be easy to do so.
00:05:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, go for it.
00:05:01
Marley_ Forest
I'm also going to have to go for Nuno because, quite simply, under Steve Cooper, he brought us up to the Premier League and kept us up, but we had no sense of actually going anywhere under Cooper.
00:05:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go for it, mate. Go for it.
00:05:02
Kieran McGinley - MU
Thank you.
00:05:13
Marley_ Forest
It felt like we were always going to be playing very poor football and just about surviving. Nuno's come in, he's changed us up completely, instilled a new mentality of belief in the squad.
00:05:25
Marley_ Forest
And quite simply glued it all together, brought us together, found a way of making the play style work. And it's a miracle that he's turned it around from only just surviving to on the border of Champions League football.
00:05:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and I mean, it's I don't think anyone saw ah Nottingham Forest become this good under Nuno. I think we all knew that he was a pretty decent manager, but for him to turn Nottingham Forest into a European ah team is nothing short of exceptional.

Goalkeeper of the Season Picks

00:05:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
um any ah but Sorry, I'll come to you first, Michael, before I make an argument for the other ones, just to throw a spanner in the works. Who's your manager of the season?
00:06:06
Michael - NUFC
Yeah, I'm afraid it is a clean sweep, Nuno Espirito Santo. I think when you look at where you expected Nottingham Forest to be at the start of the season, I have to say it wasn't top three, it wasn't top four.
00:06:19
Michael - NUFC
It probably wasn't even top ten, um if I'm being honest. expect them be comfortable mid-table. Didn't expect um any threats of relegation, but I certainly didn't expect a defence as good as what Nuno has built.
00:06:31
Marley_ Forest
It's.
00:06:32
Michael - NUFC
And, well... Chris Wood, when he played for Newcastle, couldn't hit a barn door.
00:06:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:06:37
Michael - NUFC
Nuno's turned him into one of the most efficient strikers in the world. So I say that with a heavy heart, but it does have to be Nuno.
00:06:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and fair enough. I mean, I will obviously as a Liverpool fan lean towards Arnaz Lott, you know, winning the Premier League in his first season, just about to.
00:06:53
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:06:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah But I think and I can't really argue with the logic that Nuno has been a revelation with this Forest side. So Nuno Espirito Santo will be our choice for manager of the season so far.
00:07:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah We might do another one of these at the ah end of the season. Let us know what you think. we're I'm very grateful that you're joining us here on Global Sports Podcast Network. Now we'll go into our goalkeepers of the season. I've picked out four names for this one.
00:07:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Matt Sells of Nottingham Forest, Dean Henderson of Crystal Palace, Guillermo Vicario of Tottenham Hotspur and Mark Flecken of Brentford. OK, Marley, I'll come to you first. Who would you choose for a goalkeeper of the season?
00:07:39
Marley_ Forest
ah Before I go into my goalkeeper of season, I don't want to make an argument for him because he's not my pick. But rivalries aside, I think it's a bit disrespectful to Leicester that Mads Hermansen isn't in that list. He's been amazing this season.
00:07:53
Marley_ Forest
But my pick, regardless, is Matt Sells. I think it's an argument between Hermansen and Sells for the goalkeeper the season. But Sells edges it just because we're so much higher in the league. He's been nothing short of exceptional.
00:08:07
Marley_ Forest
made some very good stops and a lot of the reason we've won a few of these games is due to his saves and they can give us momentum to go and get a goal a few minutes later.
00:08:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, I mean, I just I'll be honest. I absolutely hate watching Leicester and I've made it. sir
00:08:26
Kieran McGinley - MU
people
00:08:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I have made it sir a mission for myself to avoid watching them for as much as possible. I watched that Chelsea game when they got torn apart earlier in the season. I thought, God, I don't i they don't belong in the Premier League. Get this away from me.
00:08:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But, you know, a nice mention for Mads O'Manson, nonetheless, always welcome. Okay, Kieran, goalkeeper of the season for you so far.
00:08:49
Kieran McGinley - MU
So far, it was a toss-up between David Ryer and Matt Sells. Both have been really, really good. But I think because Forrest had just, you know, you wouldn't expect it, as as we've already said, Forrest to be up there.
00:09:02
Kieran McGinley - MU
I think I'm going to have to go with Matt Sells. 12 clean sheets so far this season with nine games go. He could still add to that.

Defensive Line Selections

00:09:08
Kieran McGinley - MU
ah Leading the Golden Glove race. And i wouldn't put it past him. ah No one could put it past him at the moment. But...
00:09:15
Kieran McGinley - MU
I wouldn't put it past him to see if he can, yeah thank you, to to keep up that that form that wins in the Golden Glove.
00:09:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very good.
00:09:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, and lastly, Michael, are you making a clean sweep on this, or are you throwing a curveball in there?
00:09:28
Michael - NUFC
No, this time I am throwing a curveball in there. I actually am very surprised you added him because I thought I'd be the only one. But I'm actually going to say Vicario. um I think when you look at him last season, he was targeted in almost every single game Spurs played.
00:09:46
Michael - NUFC
Corner comes in, he'd flat-bat it 100%. this season... but
00:09:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:49
Michael - NUFC
this season They've played 17 games with them, got 25 points out of their 34. In the 12, he hasn't played, they've only got the 9. He's significantly improved. He's no longer the weak link. He's the strong link.
00:10:01
Michael - NUFC
And genuinely, I think if he wasn't in that Spurs team towards the start of the season, even a little bit more now... I think Spurs would have genuinely been a lot more concerned about the relegation battle if it wasn't Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton.
00:10:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:10:17
Michael - NUFC
But I think between it was definitely between Vicario and Flecken for me. i think Sells has improved a lot, and particularly from what he was when he was at Newcastle. um But I don't think he's been ah such a great level as what everyone else does. But what I will say is the standard this year has been probably lower than what we would usually see.
00:10:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. And especially with, um, uh, sales having a much stronger defense in front of him than Vicar, especially since, you know, Van de Ven and Romero had their injury problems.
00:10:45
Michael - NUFC
Yeah. Yeah.
00:10:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, Jed Spence has been one of the only good things about Spurs this season. And, uh, Marley, I'm sure, you know, plenty about him as well. Um, and a very strong argument, but it's two against one.
00:11:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, ah
00:11:03
Michael - NUFC
yeah
00:11:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Unfortunately for you, Michael, Matt Sells will go into the team. And I mean, in my opinion, very well deserved. I probably would have gone with him as well. But I appreciate your light on ah Vicario there.
00:11:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now we'll head to the right back position now. I think this is another one where Nottingham Forest look to um strengthen their position in ah the team of the season because Ola Aina definitely gets a shout.
00:11:22
Marley_ Forest
Thank you.
00:11:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
However, I would like to name these names as well. Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Okay, Michael, I'll come to you first on this occasion. Who would you like to put into team of the season so far?
00:11:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
michael welcome to you first on this occasion who would you like to who would you like to put into the team of the season so far
00:11:50
Michael - NUFC
Yeah, for me, it's Daniel Munoz. I think Olaína is a very good second. I actually loved him when he was at Fulham. But I think Munoz this season, I don't think there's many players who have more of an impact in a game than him. He's fantastic for Palace. He doesn't make too many errors at the back and he's a crucial part of their turnover play.
00:12:11
Michael - NUFC
they're still in the fight for Europe despite a dreadful start the season. And he's a large reason why. The only thing I would need to say that he does need to improve is a little bit of composure in front of goal, which is a bit weird to say for a right back.
00:12:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:12:25
Michael - NUFC
um But he could have had five or six goals. He could have had a hat-trick against Newcastle, created, sco should have scored. But, you know, it's one of those where on the day just didn't have that composure. But overall...
00:12:37
Michael - NUFC
I think he's what the certainly one of the best defensive right backs in the league. And he also has fantastic going forward. So for me, the Crystal Palace man goes in.
00:12:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, fair enough. We do appear to have lost Mali for the time being. Let's see if we can get him back on. So for now, just two of you on. um Kieran, right back of the season for you. Are you going to say Nusay Masraoui as a Manchester United fan?
00:13:02
Kieran McGinley - MU
I am surprised you mentioned him because he's been sort of between a right wing back and a right centre back role this season, which is why I hadn't really thought of putting him forward. But thank you for making it easy.
00:13:13
Kieran McGinley - MU
Now, I am not going to...
00:13:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, he is brilliant.
00:13:15
Michael - NUFC
Mm-hmm.
00:13:15
Kieran McGinley - MU
I mean, he is brilliant.
00:13:15
Michael - NUFC
yeah
00:13:16
Kieran McGinley - MU
He's been our signing of the season. No doubt about that. 15 million euros is a bargain for him. However, I was thinking, actually, i know. I think he's been brilliant this season. And again, another Forest player, I know.
00:13:27
Kieran McGinley - MU
But... There's a whole reason why we put so many Forest players in there is because they've completely beaten expectations. I think, um Michael, you said about Daniel Munoz as well. I think he's been terrific for Palace as well.
00:13:39
Kieran McGinley - MU
It just seems to be all the rage to have, you know, your right back, your full backs, your wing backs be athletic and be the whole width of your team, which is kind of what United are trying to do at the moment. You know, that is where the width is in your wing backs. You need them up and down the pitch. And, you know, someone like Aynat, someone like Munoz are really, really ideal for those roles. I'm going to put my vote to Ina because I want to make this interesting.
00:14:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, so Ola Aina or Daniel Munoz.
00:14:01
Michael - NUFC
Mmh.
00:14:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I do like your shout for Munoz because I think um Crystal Palace, the the way they've recovered this season, they started it off so poorly, um but he has probably been their best player this season, in my other than Jean-Philippe Mateta, maybe.
00:14:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah But I think if we're looking at a defensive point of view, um Nottingham Forest, you can't really look past Dolla Aina. um And I think based on that argument, in the terms of how he has revolutionized ah that right back role for the Nottingham Forest defense, I think I want to put Aina in on this occasion.
00:14:45
Michael - NUFC
Mm-hmm.
00:14:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah But... pleased with your shout as well so so far we have had a nottingham forest manager a nottingham forest goalkeeper and a nottingham forest right back it's a good thing marley's not here ah anymore right center back uh we'll go for a four i think this season we've seen a four to three 3-1 in ah not just in the Premier League but all across all European leagues so I think it would be only right if we went for that and for the centre-backs I'd like to put these names out again you don't have to use them Virgil van Dijk, Murillo, Nikola Milenkovic, Lisandro Martinez, Gabriel Magalhaez, Mark Gaye and Dan Byrne.
00:15:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Marley's just joined back you'll be pleased to know we did choose Ola Aina in the end
00:15:34
Kieran McGinley - MU
you
00:15:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah for the right back role and now it's time for centre backs okay Michael yep
00:15:41
Michael - NUFC
yeah um First one is someone that you've mentioned. i want to go with Murillo. um i think, to be honest, you look at one of the reasons why... Nottingham Forest are so good.
00:15:52
Michael - NUFC
It's Murillo and Milenkovic in that centre-back pairing. And to be honest, I think they're probably on form the best centre-back pairing in the league at the moment. I haven't added both of them in, and but Murillo is definitely in there for me.
00:16:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
yep
00:16:04
Michael - NUFC
The other is one that um you actually didn't mention, but it's Dean Huyson from...
00:16:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh yeah, what a shout.
00:16:11
Michael - NUFC
ah bo And ah for me, there's not a more impressive young defender on the planet. And if there is, well, he's probably Spanish and because there's only other one I can think of, which is worrying for future tournaments if you're an England fan.
00:16:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:16:24
Michael - NUFC
But he costs 15 million from Juventus and he has been so, so impressive.
00:16:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:16:29
Michael - NUFC
I could have gone to Barney as well, but I think over the whole season, think the Spaniard just edges him a little bit. So Murillo and him for me.
00:16:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. Okay. So, um, Marley returning, who are your two centre-backs, please?
00:16:44
Marley_ Forest
Yeah, apologies for that. ah Connection just completely went, but I'm hotspotting my laptop now, so I should be all right. um I'm going to stick to my own club, but the other a direction to Michael, because I don't think Murillo's been as good as Milenkovic this season.
00:16:59
Marley_ Forest
I'm going to put Milenkovic forward.
00:16:59
Michael - NUFC
Mm-hmm.
00:17:01
Marley_ Forest
Murillo was in the defence last season. He's still very mistake prone. He's still young. Milenkovic, however, has come in and completely transformed our defence. He's been that leader, the talisman, the key man in our back line.
00:17:13
Marley_ Forest
So I don't think you can have Murillo without Milenkovic in there. It has to be Milenkovic over him. Now my other centre-back, I think I'm going to have to go Virgil van Dijk.
00:17:25
Marley_ Forest
Just based off the fact that Liverpool are doing so well this season, that van Dijk has always been that mainstay of the best centre-back, one of their best players.
00:17:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:17:35
Marley_ Forest
And with them going on to win another Premier League, I think he's got to get in the team of the season.
00:17:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think so. is I mean, the thing is with Van Dijk is you hear about him so much and you take his incredible world-class performances almost for granted now that people just don't really think about him. But honestly, this season, ah he had his issues coming back from injury in the last couple of seasons, but this season he has been back to his very, very best. So um I appreciate that you shouted him.
00:18:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Kieran, your turn.
00:18:04
Kieran McGinley - MU
Interesting. Yeah, I agree with Milinkovic. He was on the top of my list. I think, yeah, he's been

Midfield and Attack Choices

00:18:10
Kieran McGinley - MU
fantastic for Forrest, a real rock at the back. And then I'm afraid I'm going to have to go boring. um You know, we've had too many Forrest players and and whatnot.
00:18:18
Kieran McGinley - MU
I think Gabriel has been an absolute star for Arsenal. He is such a danger. Well, he is. Come on now. Come on.
00:18:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, and just i'm just I'm just thinking, how am I going to do this now?
00:18:25
Michael - NUFC
Thank you.
00:18:25
Kieran McGinley - MU
He's... is Yeah, I know. i know.
00:18:29
Michael - NUFC
ah
00:18:30
Kieran McGinley - MU
Sucks to be you. But I'm going to explain my point. It's such a menace in the air. when When Arsenal started with those set pieces at the start of this season, he was ruthless. And he pops up with a goal every two or three games now.
00:18:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was.
00:18:41
Kieran McGinley - MU
He's so important at the back and in the box that I can't look past him. He's been phenomenal this season. So I'd pair up Milinkovic and Gabriel. ah Yes, Gabriel. That's what I meant.
00:18:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right. Ah, now I'm going to have a headache with this because I have to choose between.
00:18:54
Kieran McGinley - MU
Yeah.
00:18:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we got two votes for Milenkovic. He's already going in. And to be honest, i was expecting you all to go with Murillo, but I mean, can't argue with it.
00:18:59
Michael - NUFC
Yep.
00:19:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Milenkovic goes in. Now I have to choose between Dean Heysen, Gabriel and Virgil van Dijk and Murillo, I suppose, as well.
00:19:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
I really like the Dean Heysen shout. I really like it, but I just think um'm ah you can call me biased all you want, but Virgil van Dijk, I just think he's back to his very, very best this season. He's our captain.
00:19:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't think we win the league without him. Um, So <unk> I'm sorry. I know that's boring as well. You're all shaking your head at me and now I'm feeling very insecure.
00:19:43
Kieran McGinley - MU
yeah
00:19:44
Michael - NUFC
Ha, ha, ha, ha.
00:19:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah
00:19:44
Marley_ Forest
You
00:19:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, it's fine. It's fine. Let's move on. um Left back roll. OK, this is where I didn't. pick any Nottingham Forest defenders for the first time. In fact, Nottingham Forest full stop. i've I've gone with Lewis Hall, Milos Kerkes, Ryan Itenori, Anthony Robinson, Ricardo Calafiore and Mark Gucurea.
00:20:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So just think about those names. Kieran, you gave me a bit of a surprised face when I said that I haven't gone with a Forest left back. Would you like to elaborate?
00:20:18
Kieran McGinley - MU
No, it's just we haven't, you know, Forest dominated this team. So this will be a breath of fresh air. Sorry, Marley. um i i'll go for I'll go for Anthony Robinson.
00:20:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:20:27
Kieran McGinley - MU
What a player he is.
00:20:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, what a player.
00:20:28
Kieran McGinley - MU
What a player. um You know, locking down that left-hand side for Fulham. And he's I think he's got 10 assists in the Premier League as well. You're talking about someone who you want to go forward. You're sort of looking for that overlap for him. You can put in a great ball as well. Very creative. He's got everything you need in a modern-day Fulham wing-back. So my vote goes to Anthony Robinson.
00:20:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, um Michael, I assume you're going to go with Lewis Hall.
00:20:50
Michael - NUFC
Thank you.
00:20:54
Michael - NUFC
Yeah, that is correct. um I think it'll probably change at the end of the season because he's injured. So, you know, he will miss a third of the season.
00:20:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:21:01
Michael - NUFC
But up to now, it's got to be Lewis Hall for me. I mean, after Alexander Izak, he's arguably Newcastle's player of the season. ah Certainly the most improved. um He's a huge attacking talent.
00:21:13
Michael - NUFC
um But wow the reason I picked him over Robinson is his defensive capabilities as well. He's been our standout player in games against Liverpool. So up against Mo Salah. um up against Arsenal, Bakayo Saka, Antti Alanga when we played Forest. And have to say, you could give it to Robinson or Kirk as for me, but right now, I think it's got to be Lewis Hall.
00:21:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and understandable as well. what ah i honestly am guilty of writing off Lewis Hall um before the season started because I saw him at Chelsea and I just thought he's not going to be good enough for the Premier League. But he's moved to that left-back role at Newcastle.
00:21:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
And oh my word, he has been tremendous. Very unfortunate for him to get injured just before the international break as well. Really would have liked to have seen him in that England shirt.
00:22:00
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:22:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ishan's just joined us. um So that means Kieran has some backup in the Manchester United corner now. Ishan, we're doing our left backs of the season, as you probably just heard from Michael.
00:22:09
Eshan
Yeah. yeah
00:22:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll give you time to think about it. Marley, I'll go to you beforehand. Who is your left back of the season so far, please, Marley?
00:22:24
Marley_ Forest
I've got three, I could say. One of them I'm not going to go with because he's played centre-back, right-back and left-back throughout the season. So I don't think it's really right to put him in any of them.
00:22:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:22:35
Marley_ Forest
Although he could go in all of them, it's Jed Spence.
00:22:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:22:39
Marley_ Forest
um
00:22:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, I like that shout.
00:22:40
Marley_ Forest
If I was biased, I would die on the hill of Nico Williams. But I'm trying to avoid bias. I'm going to go with another left-back who I don't think I heard on your list, which surprised me a bit.
00:22:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:50
Marley_ Forest
And me including him might surprise you. but i'm going to go with Arsenal's Miles Lewis Skelly.
00:22:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK.
00:22:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, the reason I didn't put Lewis Skelly in is just because of his it's because of his discipline this season. And also ah he owned he didn't start the season.
00:23:04
Michael - NUFC
Thank you.
00:23:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
He sort of came in gradually. And I just don't think he's had a better season than the other left backs I mentioned. But I would love to hear your arguments.
00:23:17
Marley_ Forest
It's more to do with the fact that He's been thrown in at the deep end as such. He's come in midway through the season to an Arsenal team which has got a lot of pressure on them to keep up a pursuit of Liverpool at 18 years of age.
00:23:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
00:23:31
Marley_ Forest
And there's no denying he's been a very standout player in the Premier this season. He's been exceptional.
00:23:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:23:37
Marley_ Forest
A lot better than you'd expect an 18-year-old to do in and in a pressure environment like that. it deserves Even if he doesn't get in the team, which I don't think he should, he deserves the credit, he deserves a shout. So I'm going to put him forward.
00:23:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
So did you say that there was another one or is that your is that the player that you're putting forward full stop? That's your pick.
00:23:54
Marley_ Forest
The other one would be Jed Spence, but think because he's been between left back, right back and centre back, I'm going to stick with Skelly.
00:24:01
Eshan
Hello.
00:24:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, the thing is with Jed Spence, i I think he has played his best football at left back. So um I think left back would probably be the shout for him if you're going to go for a position. And I really like that shout because, again, like I mentioned before, he has been terrific for Spurs in a very weakened defense. OK, Eshan, you've had time to think about it now.
00:24:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Your left back, please.
00:24:25
Eshan
I'm going to go, i don't know if this has been said already, but I'm going to go with Kerkes.
00:24:29
Marley_ Forest
you
00:24:29
Eshan
I think Kerkes has been absolutely phenomenal in every Bournemouth game I've watched. I think Ala Aina deserves a shout. I think Robinson deserves shout, and Lewis Hall, as previously mentioned, also deserves a shout. But I think left-back...
00:24:42
Eshan
arguably this season might be the most stacked on form position out of the entire team.
00:24:48
Michael - NUFC
yeah
00:24:49
Eshan
I think if you play FPL this season, Lewis Hall and Anthony Robinson have been insane pick pickups.
00:24:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:55
Eshan
I've had both them on my team since like, like October or November, know, and they just consistent, consistent, consistent. And so it is really a quite a number of options.
00:25:05
Marley_ Forest
you
00:25:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right. I've got a headache here. um This is... this I hate being in charge when there's four different opinions here. um ah Well, five even.
00:25:16
Kieran McGinley - MU
it
00:25:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
who Who do I go with? Right, so... ah I'm torn... To me, I'm leaning towards two players right now. i'm leaning towards Lewis Hall and Milos Kerkes. Anthony Robinson was brilliant as well, though, wasn't he?
00:25:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, I think... i I think I just about want to go Anthony Robinson on this one. i just, but my, like, honestly, i i didn't want to have to choose between those three, but I just, I like your argument the most, Kieran. I think he has been brilliant. And I don't, a lot of the hype has been surrounding Lewis Hall as well.
00:26:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he'd probably be my second pick, but yeah. You can't go wrong with it any of those picks. They're all terrific. Okay. um We're going to take a short break now. And when we come back, we'll do the rest of the team.
00:26:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, right, let's move into this midfield. As I mentioned, 4-2-3-1, so we're going to have two holding midfielders and one number 10. However, if there is a player that you want to play slightly out of position, I'm not going to argue. It's just hypothetical.
00:27:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's not going to actually play. So let's move on to holding midfielders. Right. So I have gone for Ryan Gravenberg, Boises Kaissado, Alexis McAllister, Declan Rice, Abadou Odada, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Gimoresh.
00:27:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
However, again, you don't have to use any of those names. I just rushed them in the preparation for this recording and do not have a go at me if I've forgotten someone. You already have. I'm getting upset.
00:27:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Okay, Sean, I'll come to you first on this one.
00:27:37
Marley_ Forest
Thank
00:27:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
for Who would you like to go with?
00:27:39
Eshan
So are we selecting one or two?
00:27:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah No, two, please. Two. Sorry, I should have clarified.
00:27:43
Eshan
do um Could you repeat the list again just for one more time?
00:27:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, Ryan Gravenberg, Moises Caicedo, Alexis McAllister, Declan Rice, Amadou Onana, Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes.
00:27:58
Eshan
Well, I think the the clear winner out of those is clearly Ryan Gravenbridge. I think the difference he's made to this Liverpool team that if you if we flashback to how we were speaking about their transfer window at the start of the season, there's so much talk about the lack of a DM those after failing on the Zubimendi transfer.

Young Player and Overall Player of the Season

00:28:17
Eshan
So seeing that Ryan Gravenbridge has seamlessly fit in, I think he's the clear number one.
00:28:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:28:25
Eshan
I think there's arguments for the rest of them, quite a few. I'm going to go with Bruno Gimuresh. um I think Bruno has quite shone this season. I think he's like stepped up his level a lot. I think the addition of the other mentioned of Newcastle play in there, Sandro Tonali has helped quite a lot since his return from the ban.
00:28:44
Eshan
But every time i I've seen Gimuresh play, I just, I can only think that he's like a Champions League level footballer.
00:28:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
He has been terrific for Newcastle.
00:28:53
Eshan
And I think it, and it's it's just like i think with a ah holding midfielder, sometimes you can go it can go quite unsung and because you're you're somehow both come completely involved in the game and somehow out of it at many points. So I think he goes he flies under the radar, but he's been one of Newcastle's best players this season.
00:29:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, I think that leads perfectly on to Michael. I'm sure you're probably going to give a mention to ah the Newcastle midfield, because in my opinion, I think ah at the moment, they're top three midfields in the league.
00:29:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
So who who would you like to go for as your two holding midfielders, please?
00:29:34
Michael - NUFC
yeah
00:29:38
Michael - NUFC
Yeah, I think I do agree that Newcastle as ah as a whole, the midfield is fantastic. But I think this season, if I look at it as a whole, I don't think I can put either Tonali or Bruno G in there.
00:29:51
Marley_ Forest
Thank
00:29:52
Michael - NUFC
um Bruno had a poor start the season.
00:29:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:55
Michael - NUFC
um It felt like the burden of captaincy um was kind of getting a bit much to him. if The last four months, he's been fantastic. Same with Tonali. But I've actually gone with...
00:30:08
Michael - NUFC
um Ryan Gravenberg. I've been really impressed with them this season.
00:30:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK.
00:30:11
Michael - NUFC
i everything I could say has already been said. And I've also gone with maybe a bit of an outlier with Declan Rice. um
00:30:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:30:20
Michael - NUFC
I'm usually not impressed by Rice at all.
00:30:24
Eshan
you
00:30:24
Michael - NUFC
But this season, I think you look at that Arsenal midfield, partly hasn't been great. Jorginho, when he's come in, has been terrible. Odegaard certainly isn't hitting the levels you would expect. And the only time Arsenal seem to do well and seem to click is when Declan Rice is the engine in the background, making everything work.
00:30:42
Michael - NUFC
So I think he's played a lot of an unsung role this season.
00:30:43
Marley_ Forest
Thank you.
00:30:46
Michael - NUFC
um And i think realistically, they wouldn't even be nearly in the title race if it wasn't for him.
00:30:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely. I just did receive a call from Ian Mackay, who clearly must have forgotten about this recording now.
00:30:58
Michael - NUFC
you
00:30:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
So um we'll we'll let that one go.
00:30:59
Kieran McGinley - MU
Hey.
00:31:00
Michael - NUFC
LAUGHTER
00:31:00
Eshan
Thank you.
00:31:00
Kieran McGinley - MU
thank
00:31:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
um i like your mention of Declan Rice because I just feel he's sort of become a victim of his own standards. i Maybe it's the price tag he had when he first went to Arsenal.
00:31:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
But every time I've watched him, I always have that sort of impression.
00:31:14
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:31:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's just doing everything right. um And his corners.
00:31:20
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:31:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, my word. His corners this season have just been incredible.
00:31:25
Michael - NUFC
Excellent.
00:31:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Right. So ah who do I come to next? Marley, let's go to you. um Who have I forgotten?
00:31:32
Marley_ Forest
Well, I think I'm going to be the pain in this situation and go with two outliers. One of which you definitely didn't mention and six with the Newcastle United theme.
00:31:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
hmm.
00:31:42
Marley_ Forest
The other one I think you did mention, but no one else has mentioned him. The Newcastle United theme is stuck to. I think going to have to put Elliot Anderson forward. He's been really good this season. I think some of the best dribbling from a midfielder I've ever seen on a football pitch he's produced this season.
00:31:59
Marley_ Forest
And...
00:31:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:32:00
Marley_ Forest
He's been very underappreciated at times from neutrals because at times the job he does in an attacking sense is doesn't go as noticed, but it's still really evident. And he's been exceptional. If he added a few more goals for his game, I think he'd definitely be in the conversation a lot more.
00:32:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think...
00:32:15
Marley_ Forest
and
00:32:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he's definitely been on a bit of a rise this season. Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt you i thought you would finish talking.
00:32:21
Marley_ Forest
The second one. Chelsea have been an up and down fixture in the last few seasons. They've had players who have gone really good, who've played really badly.
00:32:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:32:30
Marley_ Forest
So I think it says a lot when you can highlight a player this season from Chelsea and say of the last few seasons, this player is having a season that you can shout about, a season to kind of rescue Chelsea from the doldrums.
00:32:43
Marley_ Forest
So I'm going to put forward a CDM of Moises Caicedo.
00:32:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:32:46
Marley_ Forest
I think he's had a brilliant season. played really well in that Chelsea midfield and is a large part of why they are where they are in the Champions League race.
00:32:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, absolutely. i'm Glad you mentioned them. I didn't think anyone would mention Moises Kaisledo, but I really think he has, as you mentioned, been a bit of a key part in their charge for ah top four or top five, whatever it is now.
00:33:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, lastly, Kieran, your two holding midfielders, please.
00:33:15
Kieran McGinley - MU
and You see, I have a list of four and I have to choose between two of them. So this is going to be tricky for me, but let me cook and I'll see what I can come up with.
00:33:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:33:22
Kieran McGinley - MU
So the the the two honourable mentions, i'll I'll start with Enzo Fernandes.
00:33:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Okay.
00:33:27
Kieran McGinley - MU
I think he's been ah alongside Caicedo as well.
00:33:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he has been.
00:33:30
Kieran McGinley - MU
He's been a real heartbeat at the team, you know, nine goal involvements.
00:33:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:33:32
Kieran McGinley - MU
so this season with four goals, five assists. You know, he's he's struggled a little bit, but I think this season he really has shown the Premier League what he can do. um And ah this is where it gets difficult now because I know how good Khabbenwurz has been this season. This has been his breakout. You know, he's been phenomenal this year.
00:33:50
Kieran McGinley - MU
He really, really has. I just... I'm liking the midfield pairing of Kaissoude and Gimaraes. That just seems like a really good combination to me. I think, thinking outside the box, those two will probably do really well together. It's the wrong Bruno for me, but it's the it's the more deserving Bruno in the heart of that midfield.
00:34:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right. Okay. um
00:34:13
Eshan
Quick mention.
00:34:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we've had two for Bruno and two for Kaiseido.
00:34:14
Eshan
Yeah,
00:34:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry, who's speaking there? Sorry.
00:34:20
Eshan
it's me. um I just want to give a... I totally forgot about him while I was speaking, but i want to give a quick shout-out to Yuri Tielemans. I think Yuri Tielemans has been fantastic all season.
00:34:28
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:34:30
Eshan
And i guess he's not a defensive midfielder, but I'm now realizing we're probably going to do a cam next, so he won't fit into that category as much.
00:34:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he won't.
00:34:38
Eshan
just give him a quick shout-out.
00:34:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right, okay, so I've got two for Gravenberg, two for Kaiseido, and ah two for Bruno Guimoresh.
00:34:40
Marley_ Forest
um
00:34:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, I know my personal bias, and quite frankly, I don't care anymore. um
00:34:54
Kieran McGinley - MU
Hmm.
00:34:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
So Ryan Gravenberg is in.
00:34:55
Kieran McGinley - MU
Hmm.
00:34:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you very much for making that easier for me.
00:34:56
Kieran McGinley - MU
Hmm.
00:34:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now I just have to have the hard choice between Moises Kaiseido and Bruno Guimoresh. And quite frankly, ah Michael downplayed Bruno Guimaraes a little bit, so that's made that easy for me. And Moises Kaiseido is in.
00:35:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
So thanks for that, guys. That was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.
00:35:15
Eshan
yeah
00:35:15
Kieran McGinley - MU
Thank
00:35:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Gravenberg and Kaiseido are the two ah the two ah holding midfielders. Right, that moves us onto the cam role, the central attacking midfielder, the number 10, whatever you want to call it.
00:35:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah OK, I've put Enzo Fernandes into this category actually before ah because he did play in the number 10 role earlier this season for Chelsea. And that's when he was scoring, actually.
00:35:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I put him in Cole Palmer, Dominic Sobosly, Morgan Rodgers, Bruno Fernandes, Martin Odegaard, Morgan Gibbs-White and Justin Clivett. I thought he has been terrific. I definitely wanted him to get a mention. Marley, what's going on?
00:35:59
Marley_ Forest
I'm sorry, but the player who has been the best attacking midfielder in the Premier League this season, I believe, unless I've misheard you, has been completely missed off your list.
00:36:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Who is that? i'm um Again, i've just I would just like to say I did make this list in about half an hour and I had to get every position in, so who who have I missed?
00:36:14
Eshan
you
00:36:19
Marley_ Forest
Just because he's 17th place in the Premier League doesn't mean you can overlook Matthias Cunha.
00:36:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, put him at striker. said i he But the thing is, he drifts all across the front, so who knows what his position is?
00:36:33
Michael - NUFC
ah
00:36:33
Marley_ Forest
He's, I'd say, an attacking midfielder.
00:36:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
mean, look...
00:36:35
Marley_ Forest
Stryker strand last and falls.
00:36:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, if you want to make a case for him as an attacking midfielder, I understand.
00:36:37
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:36:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, um... You can't really leave him out. Okay, alright.
00:36:43
Michael - NUFC
I'm inclined to agree.
00:36:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Group vote.
00:36:44
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:36:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
dr So, group vote. Can I put Matthias Cunha at Cam?
00:36:49
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:36:49
Eshan
Yeah.
00:36:49
Marley_ Forest
Yes.
00:36:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, okay.
00:36:50
Kieran McGinley - MU
You've already got your majority.
00:36:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, that's fine.
00:36:52
Kieran McGinley - MU
Without me voting, you've got your majority.
00:36:52
Michael - NUFC
ah
00:36:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I feel like I'd get bullied and get dirty looks from the for the rest of the recording if I didn't do that. Okay, right. Matthias Cunha, you can make a case for him as a number 10. And based on the fact that we've already discussed him without even getting onto our votes, it seems like ah we know who's going to win this now.
00:37:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Okay, Kieran, I'll come to you first on this occasion. Who would you like to make your pick as number 10?
00:37:18
Kieran McGinley - MU
The correct Bruno, please. um yeah yeah He's been great.
00:37:20
Michael - NUFC
Mm-hmm.
00:37:22
Kieran McGinley - MU
you know um he had a bit of a quiet patch midway through this season, but having to play in a 13th place United, still being top goalscorer and, you know, top goal, joint top goalscorer last season, he's managed to carry that form in.
00:37:36
Kieran McGinley - MU
I suppose you want my real vote now, don't you?
00:37:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I do.
00:37:39
Kieran McGinley - MU
All right. All right.
00:37:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
i do.
00:37:40
Marley_ Forest
Mwahaha.
00:37:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Please. yeah I don't care if he gets the most votes. He's not going in. yeah.
00:37:47
Kieran McGinley - MU
This disgraceful behaviour. As much as he hasn't backed up on stats, I love watching Eze play. I think he's a wonderful player to watch.
00:37:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh yeah forgot
00:37:56
Kieran McGinley - MU
Very skilful. Lots of flair about him. And he's one of those players you never know what he's going to do next. And we're talking I've talked about stats so far, but <unk>s what his stats don't back him up in terms of goals and assists.
00:38:09
Kieran McGinley - MU
But what he does on the pitch is just so much fun to watch. You just... never quite know what he's going to do next. I'd i'd like to give him a shot at making this. If Kunja makes it, so be it.
00:38:20
Kieran McGinley - MU
But I'm voting for Eza.
00:38:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
he also has one of the moments of the season if that was a category where he just stood over the ball in front of Joachim Andersen just stood there for 10 seconds that's so uh Ezra is your pick
00:38:25
Marley_ Forest
There's...
00:38:34
Kieran McGinley - MU
Yes.
00:38:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:38:35
Kieran McGinley - MU
Yeah.
00:38:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right. That was very... I mean, I didn't expect Eze to come up in conversation at all, but um again, i just love what... He's one of the Premier League's entertainers, isn't he? ah Okay, Ashan, please.
00:38:48
Eshan
I think I'm going to have to be boring. And if Mateus Cunha was not mentioned, i don't think I would have, like, I'm sure there would have been, like, an argument or a little debate. But I think you've got to picture that Wolves were at the bottom of the table for so long this season of the Gary O'Neal.
00:38:59
Marley_ Forest
Thank you.
00:39:04
Eshan
And even in the bad games, Cunha would still get three, four, five shots away. It's... I think talking about Bruno Guimaraes as a Champions League player, I think Matias Cunha is also a Champions League level player.
00:39:15
Eshan
i think he's just of that quality.
00:39:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
He yes
00:39:18
Eshan
And I think he's just going to get better. like i You see like andt know like a look a little like fire behind the eyes. you know There's something that I think once he gets that next move, I think it's just going to push him higher and higher.
00:39:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:39:31
Eshan
Yeah.
00:39:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:39:33
Eshan
I think i liked really I watched the Liverpool game this season, again ah went away at Anfield, and he was, during that second half, was a nightmare to play against.
00:39:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that goal he scored, just insane.
00:39:42
Eshan
that was yeah it it was But it wasn't just the goal. It was like every time they went forward, it he was like he he was at the heart of it. And like I think there's going to be few arguments against it um
00:39:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, I still i still would have liked to debate between Palmer, Gibbs-White, and Clivert, like those players, but Morgan Rodgers.
00:39:57
Marley_ Forest
Thank you.
00:40:05
Eshan
ah ah clira and gibbs why Cliver and were definitely in my top two ah if Cunha wasn't mentioned because Cliver, very, very consistent, especially when they lost both their strikers.
00:40:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
So putting him in this position. Yeah. Yeah.
00:40:18
Eshan
There was this like there's all this talk about Bournemouth They were going to have to dip into the transfer market, um recall players back from loan, and him, Wattara, Zimeno just silenced all of that talk.
00:40:30
Eshan
And Gibbs White, fantastic. um He's just been surprised me with the consistency and the quality. I'm sure Marley will speak much more in depth about that.
00:40:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:40:42
Eshan
But yeah, fantastic players.
00:40:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, Matthias, Cunha, and Eze are our two picks. Marley, leads nicely onto you. Who's your pick?
00:40:52
Marley_ Forest
Right, so I know everyone will be expecting after I shouted out. Williams and Anderson to go for Mourn Gims-White. And despite him being exceptional this season and having, in my opinion, the assist of the season so far against Manchester City, it'd be embarrassing if I didn't go for Matthias Cunha.
00:41:09
Marley_ Forest
And this is coming, this means a lot from someone who a year ago, even halfway through this season, was Matthias Cunha's biggest ever hater. But I think, barring the fact that he wants to play a little bit too much like Zinedine Zidane at times,
00:41:20
Kieran McGinley - MU
Ouch.
00:41:26
Marley_ Forest
He has been utterly exceptional for Wolves this season. The only reason they're not twentieth in the league. And I do believe that is an attacking midfielder and one of the best in the Premier League at that.
00:41:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
well i'd say the other reason they're not 20th is because of southampton
00:41:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
just being dreadful.
00:41:44
Kieran McGinley - MU
howuch
00:41:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm sorry, but they I'm sure they'd agree with me. It's been a pretty awful watch for them.
00:41:50
Marley_ Forest
Hold opinion. Without Cunha, Wolves currently have five points.
00:41:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Give some respect to Reinight Norrie, at least.
00:41:59
Kieran McGinley - MU
Mm-hmm.
00:42:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Okay. In fact, more than him, Nelson Semedo as well has been terrific. ah Michael, your your pick for Matthias Cunha, please.
00:42:12
Michael - NUFC
yeah Yeah, I will just add that Wolves have picked up four points in the last two games without Cunha. Strand Larson being the main guy there. But I think if we're looking at this at the end of 2024, everyone says Cole Palmer.
00:42:28
Michael - NUFC
It would have been 12 goals, six assists, and we wouldn't have hit January.
00:42:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:42:31
Michael - NUFC
But... He has gone cold. So i think I don't think anyone can look beyond Matthias Cunha.
00:42:35
Eshan
Yeah.
00:42:39
Michael - NUFC
I do think you he's played brilliantly in the hole behind Strand Larsson. They haven't really clicked as well as what Wolves would have hoped. They seem to look better on the pitch without each other. But if you're a Wolves fan, you're looking at Cunha and going, look, we'll get rid of 50 Strand Larsons and he's fantastic if we can keep him on the pitch.
00:42:59
Michael - NUFC
And you know it's already been said, but... They'd be relegated without them.
00:43:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, they they definitely would. um Okay, so that's three votes for Matthias Cudia, one vote for Eberre Eze. ah Sorry about that, Kieran. You're outvoted quite strongly on this one.
00:43:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, i still I still would have gone for Cole Palmer just because of how insane that start to the season was for him.
00:43:14
Kieran McGinley - MU
ah about
00:43:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
i you know I just think i think it's sort of recency bias against Cole Palmer because he's had this dip in form, but...
00:43:22
Michael - NUFC
Yeah, unreal.
00:43:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
He genuinely was unbelievable in that first half of the season. So if it was up to me, I'd 100% go for him.
00:43:36
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:43:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, you know, the jury has spoken. Matthias Cunha goes into the team. Right, I think this is going to be the easiest part of the team. Right wing. um Shall we all just say it on a count of three?
00:43:49
Kieran McGinley - MU
yeah
00:43:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, one, two, three, Mohamed Salah.
00:43:53
Eshan
I'm a DLL.
00:43:53
Kieran McGinley - MU
Ahmad Diallo.
00:43:54
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:43:54
Marley_ Forest
Neil Ango.
00:43:55
Eshan
Let's go.
00:43:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, we've all...
00:43:59
Kieran McGinley - MU
You know we're all joking, right?
00:43:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:44:00
Michael - NUFC
it's
00:44:01
Eshan
Yeah.
00:44:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:44:01
Michael - NUFC
yeah
00:44:01
Eshan
yeah
00:44:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
i Do we need to debate this one? um i think we can just easily move on because this has been unlike anything I've ever seen from a right winger in the Premier League since Ronaldo.
00:44:13
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:44:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it's insane.
00:44:16
Eshan
i I think it's definitely dipped into the um the conversation is, is this the greatest individual season?
00:44:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's insane
00:44:24
Eshan
It's not. Yeah.
00:44:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, I mean, if he breaks the record and he's very much on the way, then I don't think we can debate it. I mean, Haaland with that 36-goal season was insane, but I just don't... Salah gives you more than Haaland.
00:44:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry, Marley, do you have something to say? You're raising your hand.
00:44:44
Kieran McGinley - MU
Mm-hmm.
00:44:45
Marley_ Forest
Yeah, I think it says a lot. the One, we all knew how good he was anyway, but that performance away at West Ham United this season, earlier in the season, kind of shone a light as to how good of a season he's going to have.
00:44:58
Marley_ Forest
And I'm having to mention this stat, simply because I was not not going to mention this stat.
00:44:58
Eshan
Mm-hmm.
00:44:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:45:06
Marley_ Forest
But when a player's only, ah believe, if this stat is still true, ah contribution, full stop, against one team in the Premier League this season.
00:45:17
Marley_ Forest
That's just exceptional. It's also exceptional that like one team is Nottingham Forest, but...
00:45:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:45:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:45:23
Eshan
ah
00:45:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. I think I can see why you decided on that stat.
00:45:25
Marley_ Forest
had to point that out. You...
00:45:28
Eshan
Ha ha ha.
00:45:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank God we don't have to play you again this year.
00:45:31
Kieran McGinley - MU
I think.
00:45:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, so that moves us on to the striker position. ah Now, this is going to be an interesting one because, um I mean, there's going to be recency bias in this and um there's going to be people that we're underrating in this but i've tried to get as many strikers in as possible so chris wood alexander isak erling harland ollie watkins liam de lapp jean-philippe mateta danny welbeck raul humanez and i was going to put matthias kunya there but marley decided that that was not his position so we'll move on from him um it's all right mate uh okay
00:46:06
Kieran McGinley - MU
Okay.
00:46:08
Marley_ Forest
Sorry.
00:46:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Let's go for Michael first on this one. Are you going to say ESEC or are you going to surprise me?
00:46:19
Michael - NUFC
Yeah, I don't think there's ah there's another option, to be honest. I think we should just shut it all down now. It's Alexander Azak.
00:46:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
There is. I've just given you them.
00:46:26
Kieran McGinley - MU
mr
00:46:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've given you the other options, mate.
00:46:27
Michael - NUFC
No ending.
00:46:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, I didn't do this for nothing, mate.
00:46:28
Michael - NUFC
No ending.
00:46:29
Marley_ Forest
there
00:46:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll put your time into this.
00:46:33
Michael - NUFC
For me... For me, it's Alexander-Ezac all day.
00:46:37
Marley_ Forest
I feel like I'm going to to the next one.
00:46:37
Michael - NUFC
Newcastle don't do a good enough job of getting the ball to him often enough. Creatively this season, we've been relatively poor, which is why you're not putting... Well, you might put Anthony Gordon at left wing, but we haven't really spoken about the creativity of the centre midfielders or the wing-backs or even the right winger, but there's one player always going to be in there for Newcastle, and it's Alexander-Ezac. He creates, he scores, and for me, he's the best striker the Premier League has right now.
00:47:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Okay, Isak gets the Newcastle fans' vote. ah Right, Kieran, let's go to you next, please.
00:47:14
Kieran McGinley - MU
Oh, no. it's It's two clubs that hate us. Oh, no. What could I possibly do?
00:47:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:47:18
Marley_ Forest
Don't say Hoyland.
00:47:19
Kieran McGinley - MU
What could I possibly say that would make this worse? um God, Wood and Isaac have been phenomenal. i It's just a case, Chris Wood, going to put that vote in there.
00:47:31
Kieran McGinley - MU
i've He's been so good.
00:47:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:47:32
Kieran McGinley - MU
He's as that as that one to aim for in those clutch moments. he's but He's been there for Forrest. And correct me if I'm wrong, this has been one of his best ever seasons. It's one of his best goal returns.
00:47:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:47:44
Eshan
By far.
00:47:45
Kieran McGinley - MU
So he's really hit.
00:47:45
Marley_ Forest
Single ever best season. Single best ever season he's had.
00:47:47
Kieran McGinley - MU
Yeah. So that just that just backs it up for me for more.
00:47:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:47:51
Kieran McGinley - MU
He's he's singing from the same hymn sheet. At long last, we found a Chris Wood that we knew was maybe lying underneath. He's found it and he's shown us, you know, with with the multiple goals he's had this season.
00:48:03
Kieran McGinley - MU
Absolutely phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. And Chris Wood's got my vote.
00:48:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah, absolutely amazing. It's just, I love it when there are these average players that go on to do incredible things.
00:48:13
Kieran McGinley - MU
careful now.
00:48:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, no, no, I mean this in a positive way. Come on.
00:48:18
Eshan
Thank you.
00:48:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I mean, let's face it. um Michael said it himself.
00:48:20
Marley_ Forest
Yeah, I think.
00:48:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
When he was at Newcastle, he was hopeless at times, but what a what's a turnaround for him.
00:48:26
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:48:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
And ah that just... Goes to show why we voted Nuno as manager of the season, when he can turn a player into something special. ah Okay, I think it's only fitting that since we're speaking of a Nottingham Forest player, we go to the Nottingham Forest fan, Marley.
00:48:44
Marley_ Forest
yeah i think Well, normally it feels weird saying Chris Wood because if a team's winning the league by as much as Liverpool are, you'd normally go for their striker.
00:48:48
Eshan
Thank you.
00:48:52
Marley_ Forest
But forget Barnard with a banjo. Nunes couldn't hit the moon with a spaceship. He would fly straight past it and into the sun.
00:48:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:48:58
Michael - NUFC
Thank you.
00:48:59
Kieran McGinley - MU
I'm writing that down.
00:48:59
Marley_ Forest
So... inancy and
00:49:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, fair enough, mate.
00:49:03
Marley_ Forest
and I think we're going to go have to go with Chris Wood. I know i get the shout-free sack. I love shout-free sack. He's been top quality, but... With Chris Wood, he just is not... this Chris Wood has always been there.
00:49:16
Marley_ Forest
Just at Burnley, didn't have the right players around him. Newcastle, maybe not the right system. But at Forest, when we just get balled into him, on his head, into him, he will score them. He's one of the best finishers in the league at the minute.
00:49:29
Marley_ Forest
His conversion rate at some points this season and last season has been the best in Europe. So I don't see any way he can be left out of the conversation and probably even the team.
00:49:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's funny that we're winning from the league this much and we haven't got a decent striker. I'd like to know if we can get the mighty Chris Wood in next season. Who'd have thought I'd said that before the season started?
00:49:52
Marley_ Forest
no
00:49:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, Ishan, are you going to tie this? Are you going make it two for Wood, two for Isak?
00:49:55
Eshan
ah
00:49:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or are you going make it easier for me?
00:49:57
Eshan
i I want to so ah bad, but I think I'm going to go with Chris Wood as well. I think Isak is such a high-quality striker.
00:50:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:50:08
Eshan
What he's done to Arsenal this season has been just beautiful to watch. just I think it was in the Carabao Cup semifinal where he just he nips to the ball first.
00:50:13
Kieran McGinley - MU
Mm-hmm.
00:50:18
Eshan
and like ah Holland isn't doing that, you know?
00:50:20
Marley_ Forest
Thank you.
00:50:21
Eshan
Like, what Isak can do and the way that Isak, like, connects the team is, it's just so, like, pristine and beautiful.
00:50:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:50:28
Eshan
But I think you've got to take into fact how we viewed players before the start of the season and how we view them now. And I think Chris Wood has um elevated his game so, ah he's been so clinical in all the games I've watched, is, like, if he just needs a chance and needs a goal.
00:50:44
Eshan
Like, i think I'm thinking of the game um ah Liverpool versus Forest um and the at Forest's home ground.
00:50:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:50:52
Eshan
Two minutes in, just smashes it in.
00:50:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know the goal.
00:50:55
Eshan
It's just, like, out of nowhere, they hadn't even been up the field.
00:50:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:50:59
Eshan
And then it or it's... I think there's something really something to be said that a striker's job is to finish. It's plain and simple. And Chris Wood is clinical at this season.
00:51:12
Eshan
I think he's at, what, 18 goals this season?
00:51:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely.
00:51:15
Eshan
Is that correct?
00:51:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
i don't know if the top of my head, Marley, yeah?
00:51:17
Marley_ Forest
Yeah. 18, yeah.
00:51:18
Eshan
Yeah.
00:51:19
Marley_ Forest
Yeah.
00:51:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
eighteen
00:51:19
Eshan
Absolutely insane.
00:51:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I would just like to say the look on Michael's face when he said Chris Wood was absolutely priceless. OK, Chris Wood goes in and the final position to complete our team ah is left wing. Now, I will say, i think the the quality of left wing has dropped this season.
00:51:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
However, there are are still some names I'd like to mention. So Cody Gakpo, Anthony Gordon, Antoine Semenyo, Luis Diaz, Jeremy Doku, and Omar Marmouche. Again, i may have forgotten someone.
00:51:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And Marley, I think you look like you're prepared to punch me in the face. Is that right? Or have I forgotten someone?
00:52:06
Marley_ Forest
ah I think bias has crept in there.
00:52:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, because I mentioned Cody Gakpo.
00:52:13
Marley_ Forest
No, because a player has an exceptional season, a team does really well, he's been one of their most key players, most things they do go through him, but just because your only loss at Anfield in the league was because of him only, you didn't put him in.
00:52:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
the thing The thing is with, what, are you talking about Callum Hudson-Odoi?
00:52:32
Marley_ Forest
Yes, yes I am.
00:52:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, is that your pick?
00:52:35
Marley_ Forest
It is, definitely.
00:52:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, alright, um, okay.
00:52:39
Kieran McGinley - MU
I just love this. There's no further explanation. It's just Kalamon, Sinodoy, we're third. End of. Fair comment.
00:52:46
Marley_ Forest
It's like, it's just the way,
00:52:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
i'm I hated that goal so much.
00:52:53
Marley_ Forest
it's the way he plays. He might not shine through as much as Anthony Gordon, as much as Cody Gapot, Marmouche. But most things Forrest do has to go through Callum Hudson-Odoi.
00:53:06
Marley_ Forest
He's so good at creating space, at finding those pockets on the wing to sit in, allowing the wing-back to overlap him. he just Everything he does, he does really well.
00:53:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:53:19
Marley_ Forest
And when we've got a really important game, we're struggling to find that goal. He will always pop up and be our saviour. He did it at Anfield. He did at home to Manchester City. He's that player who will you always know what you're getting from him. You're always getting a good game.
00:53:34
Marley_ Forest
And if you're really in need of a very important goal, you could always turn to him.
00:53:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. ah So that's your vote, Callum Hudson-Odoi. Who shall I come to next? Ishan, I'll come to you.
00:53:47
Eshan
I'm a little stuck, frankly, because um I don't think...
00:53:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
you to come back to you?
00:53:53
Eshan
um No, let's talk I want to talk it through, actually, a little bit, because I think we've left out some players in the rest of the fit. and So are we going strictly position-based?
00:54:03
Eshan
Like, is it half... They have to have played on the left?
00:54:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Yeah, I think so, because then I would have, then you could have put them in the other positions.
00:54:08
Eshan
Okay. Okay.
00:54:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Unless it's right winger, then you're not getting in.
00:54:11
Eshan
Cause I would shout out when I was driving over trying to think of my team. I had, I know Justin Clybert played on, ah played cam, but I would have put them on the left just because I couldn't think of anybody else.
00:54:25
Eshan
And I'd also shout out,
00:54:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah You can put him on the left if you want. oh ill i'm listening I'm willing to do that for you.
00:54:27
Eshan
I also shout out Brian Mbwemo. I think Brian Mbwemo has been... i think he's one of those and ah he one of those players that will like reflect so much better on ah after his time in the Premier League because he's been so consistent for Bournemouth.
00:54:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:54:41
Eshan
I think, obviously, um Ivan Toney was there for like a number of years and he takes the headlines. He takes the the gossip away from Brian Mbwemo. Brian Mbwemo has been so consistent.
00:54:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
He has been.
00:54:52
Eshan
FPL gem. Yeah.
00:54:53
Kieran McGinley - MU
Mm-hmm.
00:54:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Another one. Yeah.
00:54:55
Eshan
yeah
00:54:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
I would just like to mention I did put other players on the right wing under the right wing category.
00:55:00
Eshan
Yeah.
00:55:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just didn't need to mention their names because of because of who was in that category. But OK, I'd like to say, i ah shall I give it an honourable mention to Bakayo Saka, Jared Bowen, Savino, Ahmad Diallo and Brian Mbamo just before we move on?
00:55:07
Eshan
Well,
00:55:16
Eshan
interesting, Savinho. I would not have put Savinho in my honorable mentions. But um yeah, if I can go with Brian and Boimo, I'm just going to go with Brian and Boimo.
00:55:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:55:27
Marley_ Forest
Thank
00:55:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
um um but On the left wing, though, for Brian and Bermow.
00:55:31
Eshan
Yeah, I mean, I guess it doesn't ah make the most tactical sense, but i feel like when I choose a Premier team of the season, I'm usually just picking the nicest 11 players.
00:55:42
Eshan
like I don't think you can argue that any of those left wings had a remotely close season to what Brian Mbwemo's had and with the consistency that he's had.
00:55:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:55:51
Eshan
So I'll go with the Brian Mbwemo if that's for allowing that.
00:55:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I just would have thought for Brentford, surely the left would make more sense for Johan Wieser, who's also had a terrific season. um I know he's played at Stryker a lot.
00:56:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
And i mean, all
00:56:04
Eshan
Granted, yeah, um but I think Oboima has just slightly outperformed Wizz, in my opinion.
00:56:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
okay all right. So hypothetically, Mbamo goes on the left wing. OK, Kieran, what have you got for me?
00:56:19
Kieran McGinley - MU
Yeah, i had four players here. So this is going to be tricky. I mean, you've mentioned at least three of them, Diaz, Jacopo and Gordon. I think all of them have had fantastic seasons. So I'll start with the shout out.
00:56:32
Kieran McGinley - MU
Kevin Sharder, I think he transferred, was it this season?
00:56:33
Eshan
Wow.
00:56:34
Kieran McGinley - MU
I think, you know,
00:56:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh
00:56:36
Kieran McGinley - MU
Seven goals, two assists.
00:56:37
Michael - NUFC
Mm-hmm.
00:56:37
Kieran McGinley - MU
Not too bad, considering. um Maybe not team of the season worthy, but certainly if he can pull off a couple of seasons like that together, he's going to a really good talent for for Brentford to keep on building on.
00:56:49
Kieran McGinley - MU
um And it comes to who would i put in that 11? Gordon's been good. it's It's a case of if I had a penny for every time a Newcastle player was suspended for a League Cup final right beforehand, I'd have two pennies, which is which is weird.
00:57:03
Marley_ Forest
Thank
00:57:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:57:04
Eshan
but
00:57:06
Kieran McGinley - MU
It's happened twice. um
00:57:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:57:08
Kieran McGinley - MU
So, yeah, Gordon, if he can sort out his discipline before the big matches, that'd be great um because I think he's he's a good talent. I think he'll go a long way, especially for Newcastle.
00:57:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
can i Can I just say, this is a Premier League XI, not a League Cup.
00:57:20
Kieran McGinley - MU
Uh-huh. I'm aware. I'm aware. That's that's what docks in points because he got sent off in the Premier League, which led to his suspension into another competition.
00:57:26
Eshan
you
00:57:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh yeah, of course, my mistake.
00:57:27
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
00:57:28
Kieran McGinley - MU
So that's how that works. um
00:57:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's just stupid, isn't
00:57:31
Kieran McGinley - MU
Yeah, exactly. i think I think we're going to have to go Diaz. I think he's been he's been really, really good down that left-hand side.
00:57:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow.
00:57:39
Kieran McGinley - MU
He's a very tricky winger um that's able to just do unpredictable things. He's been, you know, i think he's been good. Am I going to regret that decision? Probably. But it's the decision I'm going to make.
00:57:50
Kieran McGinley - MU
So come at me. Nah.
00:57:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow. That's the... That's not the Liverpool left winger I thought you were going to go for. I will say about Diaz, um ah one thing I will say is the fact that he has had to play at striker as well this season.
00:58:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
And... And therefore the versatility, and he did do well at for a bit at striker for us. But I just, I would have thought Gakpo, because he has been scoring and assisting, and he did he went through this wonderful streak before he went injured, where it would be constant and against the big teams. He did it in that massive game against Manchester City. And um I just really liked him. And I actually thought he would get some more praise. But I mean...
00:58:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, I like the shout for Diaz.
00:58:37
Kieran McGinley - MU
Mm-hmm.
00:58:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I do like that he gets some credit as well. And finally, Michael, for you, who's your pick for left wing?
00:58:45
Michael - NUFC
Yeah, um to be honest, I've kind of got a couple that I wanted to mention. One of them was the aforementioned Wieser. As we've said, he played more ah centrally this year, despite being on the left pretty much all the time before that ah before Tony left.
00:58:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:59:00
Michael - NUFC
But I do ah think I'm going to have to go with Anthony Gordon. um And that's because Gordon, everyone looks at the assists, the goals, and goes, oh, he's doing really well.
00:59:11
Michael - NUFC
But what people don't realise is that defensively, Anthony Gordon has improved so much this season and he's actually, unfortunately, the the the red card against Brighton was a bit of an oversight, but he's actually been someone that Newcastle can, you know, but either the he can put Newcastle on his back.
00:59:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:59:29
Michael - NUFC
When Isaac's not played fantastically, Gordon stepped up. Earlier in the season, we played um Manchester City. He was absolutely fantastic. We should have won the game.
00:59:40
Michael - NUFC
ah Pretty much only attacking outlet we had was Anthony Gordon. Now, that looked more impressive at the time, but it's been that throughout the entire season. Gordon's been our probably our best attacking player outside of Isaac, and I think...
00:59:54
Michael - NUFC
Because of the options, there aren't many, and I think I have to go with Gordon because of that.
01:00:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Alright, so we got four different shouts. Gordon, Diaz, Hudson-Odoi and Umbermo.
01:00:05
Eshan
and
01:00:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah
01:00:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's very difficult this one because...
01:00:12
Kieran McGinley - MU
That means there's a fifth option, doesn't it, Louis? That's what that means.
01:00:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I would love...
01:00:16
Kieran McGinley - MU
but You've started there.
01:00:16
Michael - NUFC
Okay.
01:00:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
i would If one of you just picked Gakpo, this would be so much easier.
01:00:19
Kieran McGinley - MU
You can.
01:00:20
Marley_ Forest
Ha ha ha.
01:00:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can't! I can't!
01:00:22
Marley_ Forest
ah
01:00:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
I wish I could! I can't... No, I have to let the pundits do it, but I'm very annoyed with all four of you at the moment.
01:00:31
Kieran McGinley - MU
but That's even funny, so I'll take that.
01:00:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. No, it's not funny for me. Thank you.
01:00:35
Eshan
It's beautiful.
01:00:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right. ah Callum Hudson-Odoi. Why not? Let's go with him. i I liked the argument the most, but I just...
01:00:44
Kieran McGinley - MU
It wasn't good argument.
01:00:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Why does there have to be another Forest player in here? Go on. What do you want to say, Marley?
01:00:50
Marley_ Forest
Am I right in assuming the next segment will be young player of the season?
01:00:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Yes, that is correct. But just don't move on to that just yet because we've got an ad break first.
01:00:57
Marley_ Forest
I would like to give a quick...
01:01:00
Marley_ Forest
Okay, after the air break, have something to say.
01:01:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thanks. Okay, right. And here is said ad break now.
01:01:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
All right, and finally we can move on to young player of the season, Marley. Go ahead, what would you want to say?
01:01:46
Marley_ Forest
Right, so this kind of overlaps. It's just a player that's not going to get mentioned in this video because he got injured very early in the season. But I know for a fact if he didn't pick up that horrible injury early in the season, he would have been in the left-wingers' conversation and he'd have been in this conversation and his club would not be as far down and as a cast as they are.
01:01:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
know what going to say.
01:02:05
Marley_ Forest
So I want to give out a massive shout-out, as much as we're rivals with this club, to Abdul Fassouou on Leicester's left wing.
01:02:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was good, yeah.
01:02:13
Marley_ Forest
At the beginning of season, I thought one of the most promising wingers in the Premier League did his ACL in training early on, been out all season. But he would definitely have been one of the best wingers and best youngsters in the Prem, should that injury not have occurred.
01:02:25
Marley_ Forest
And Leicester would be doing a lot better with him and their team.
01:02:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, absolutely. um So i appreciate that. But unfortunately, it's a cruel game and we do have to pick our young player of the season.
01:02:34
Marley_ Forest
um
01:02:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, um I didn't have much time to craft a list of short lists because... um that that was crammed into a little amount of time before this recording started. So the only three I managed to mention were Ethan Wannery, Dean Heysen and Miles Lewis Skelly.
01:02:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Anyone want to go first for this one?
01:03:01
Kieran McGinley - MU
ah okay okay
01:03:01
Michael - NUFC
I'm happy to.
01:03:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, Michael, go ahead.
01:03:05
Michael - NUFC
Yeah, I think he's the only one that made it into a team of the season. And obviously I mentioned him, so I'm happy to put him forward again.
01:03:09
Marley_ Forest
Thank you.
01:03:12
Michael - NUFC
Dean Heysen, I think it's one of those where for a centre-back to look as impressive as he has at the age of 19 in the Premier League, he's shown experience beyond his years.
01:03:23
Michael - NUFC
He's brilliant on the ball. He's brilliant in the air. I wish he was at Newcastle, but unfortunately he's not. So at the very least, I can put him forward for this.
01:03:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Excellent. And he has got a nice transfer link to Liverpool at the moment as well. So that would be that would be beautiful.
01:03:37
Kieran McGinley - MU
but
01:03:37
Michael - NUFC
ah Who doesn't?
01:03:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's true. Isak as well. But I don't think we're getting him. You don't have anything to be worried about. You actually said to me ah earlier that you don't think Isak is going in the summer.
01:03:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
do you still feel it that way?
01:03:51
Michael - NUFC
Yeah, 100% he's not. Now we've won a cup. If anyone hasn't mentioned to you, by the way, Newcastle won the Carabao Cup.
01:03:57
Marley_ Forest
Thank you.
01:03:57
Kieran McGinley - MU
Really? No way.
01:03:58
Michael - NUFC
Yeah, no one's mentioned it.
01:03:59
Kieran McGinley - MU
I missed that.
01:04:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah I've already done my best at forgetting that one okay okay so Hyson is your pick Kieran who's your pick
01:04:02
Michael - NUFC
Yeah, we're not good at being humble.
01:04:06
Michael - NUFC
No, he's that one goal.
01:04:11
Kieran McGinley - MU
um beat It's between two. Lewis Skelly's been great. um couple of red cards have gone rescinded. So, you know, if he can keep his head in those games and not make it easy for the on-field referee to send him off and for the VAR to then say, oh, actually, shouldn't have been. and I think he's got great great potential. But Dean Hoyssen, for him to come in this season and really settle down into the role, completely agree with Michael said. He's a player, a 19-year-old player who looks very comfortable in the heart of that defence, considering its first season in the Premier League as well.
01:04:44
Kieran McGinley - MU
phenomenal stuff happy to put him in the as under 21 player so
01:04:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, fantastic. So two for Heysen, one for Lewis Skelly. And Marley, your pick, please.
01:04:55
Marley_ Forest
Now, I am not.
01:04:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Are you going to make it a hat trick?
01:05:00
Marley_ Forest
Now, my original pick, I forgot, was actually 22 years old. So, he's out the window. It was Elliot Anderson.
01:05:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, yeah, i forgot to mention, this is 20.
01:05:08
Marley_ Forest
21 and under.
01:05:08
Michael - NUFC
Hey.
01:05:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
i mentioned right at the beginning, but it's a long podcast. So 21 and under. Thank you. Sorry.
01:05:14
Marley_ Forest
So, I was stuck between half of Premier League. I want to give big shout-outs to Lewis Skelly, Lewis Hall and Huyson. But my pick is a very, very out there pick.
01:05:25
Marley_ Forest
Someone that's not been mentioned at all in this podcast, let alone this segment. But feel he's been very underappreciated this season. He's been very, very good and deserves a shout, even if he doesn't get in.
01:05:38
Marley_ Forest
And that is Brighton and the Hove Albion's Jack Hintlewood.
01:05:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, interesting.
01:05:42
Michael - NUFC
Yeah.
01:05:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. Because there was plenty of talk of him when he came up last year.
01:05:45
Marley_ Forest
19 years of age.
01:05:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Um... Yeah, that's a good. Would you like to make an argument in his case? Is that who you're putting forward?
01:05:56
Marley_ Forest
I just think the way he's controlled midfield in a way for Brighton and Albion, the way he's been a real threat, it's been that of someone a lot older than 19 years old.
01:06:08
Marley_ Forest
And the way he's not got much experience here, you'll see some players who play that lot having come through more game time at 18 and stuff and already thrown onto the big stage at a big club.
01:06:19
Marley_ Forest
He's come through at Brighton and done a job for them higher up the table than they'd expected to be. and he's controlled games for them. I that's mega impressive for a 19-year-old, and he's been very underappreciated.
01:06:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, so that makes Hinchelwood one vote, Miles Lewis-Gelly one vote. Dean Heysen, however, getting two votes does make the youngster of the season.
01:06:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And don't worry, I've already done the player of the season for you because I think we can all unanimously agree that a certain Egyptian king ah takes the crown for that one.
01:06:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Are we all in agreement there, guys? Okay.
01:06:58
Kieran McGinley - MU
Yeah, i think Marmoosh has been great.
01:06:59
Michael - NUFC
Marmoosh isn't that good.
01:07:00
Kieran McGinley - MU
Okay.
01:07:01
Marley_ Forest
I didn't realise you'd put Sam Morsi down as the...
01:07:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
What did you say?
01:07:03
Marley_ Forest
ah
01:07:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
What did you say, Michael?

Egyptian Footballers and Recap

01:07:06
Michael - NUFC
We both said Marmoosh isn't that good.
01:07:09
Marley_ Forest
ah
01:07:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
You're right.
01:07:11
Marley_ Forest
I'd argue Sam Morsi's the Egyptian king.
01:07:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, there are,
01:07:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
that Well, yeah, he's the Egyptian king.
01:07:15
Michael - NUFC
Are
01:07:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Salah's the king of Liverpool now. It's fine. he can we can We can give him that title.
01:07:20
Michael - NUFC
we?
01:07:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, so um we can all ah agree, Salah. And that completes our team. So just to recap, the team of the season so far.
01:07:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Nuno Espirito Santo is the manager. Matt Sells in goal, a back four of Ola Eina.
01:07:39
Marley_ Forest
Thank you.
01:07:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Virgil van Dijk, Nikola Milenkovic and Anthony Robinson. A midfield of Ryan Gravenberg, Moises Caicedo and controversially Matthias Cunha.
01:07:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
And a front three of Mo Salah, Chris Wood and Callum Hudson-Odoi. That would be a very interesting team. ah The youngster of the season, Dean Heysen.
01:08:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
and player of the season, Mo Salah. So that completes the episode for today.

Conclusion and Acknowledgements

01:08:11
