Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: Welcome to the Learn Machinist, where it's just you, the work, and the machines. How are you this week, Kurt?

Curt: I'm doing good. How are you doing, world traveler?

jamie peacock: ah Yeah, it's been a very busy week. um Last night is the earliest we went to bed in the last... the last week. And before that was like... 11 o 'clock the night before so yeah it's been it's been a lot of...

jamie peacock: A lot of travelling. But it's been fun. It's been a hell of a lot of fun actually.

Curt: i'm so I'm so excited to hear. We text very little um between... when you guys last listened to us and now.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: So like I know almost nothing about Jamie except that he's here in America. now so i'm super

jamie peacock: I've also been... I've been very slack on Instagram. like I've only been just reposting things from... that people that I've been with have posted.

Curt: Yeah, I know. I've been like watching a little bit.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: I'm like, what? Where is the behind the scenes? I want to know what's what.

jamie peacock: Yeah, it's because I've been driving most of the time.

Curt: so hu

jamie peacock: Yesterday was actually the only time Danica's...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: freeway driven with me. She wanted to draw something, whatever. that It's fine. I will just shit my pants. So, yeah, we... yeah That's the first time she's driven. We did 1 ,500 miles. in the last the last week

Curt: That's a lot in a week.

jamie peacock: on

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: on the wrong side of the road.

Curt: Oh, is South Africa left?

jamie peacock: Yep.

Curt: Oh.

jamie peacock: uh what do you think the first thing i did when i picked up the rental car was

Curt: Okay.

Curt: Uh... Grab for the shifter

jamie peacock: Uh, nope. and went the wrong way around a turning circle

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: Fucking banger.

Curt: Heh heh.

jamie peacock: Yeah, I only ended up on the wrong side of the road for like the first day and then then came right.

Curt: no

jamie peacock: But it is like... City driving is a hell of a lot higher mental load. when i'm driving here because i'm looking at road markings and trying to discern where I need to be on the road.

jamie peacock: Lock.

Curt: Right.

jamie peacock: Am I on the correct side? Is this... ah Like. all the lanes going in one way or... Am I going to get a head on? like yeah It's a lot of extra effort.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Freeway driving's an echo. We had a little Jeep. um it had active cruise control which is literal magic um It didn't use it for the first two days.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: So the first day we did... so we We left South Africa, flew to Nairobi. had an hour and a half transfer flew from nairobi so it was four hour flight then 15 hours from nairobi to new york Up.

Curt: if

jamie peacock: watched a movie in a bit then i fell asleep i woke up finished watching the movie and then played need for speed most wanted on the retroid for another hour or two and then we landed so i had like

Curt: That's it.

jamie peacock: 10 -11 hours of sleep on the flat

Curt: Oh perfect.

jamie peacock: Danica and her mom, not so much. um They charge sleeping pills and all sorts of crap and I just went Go. Out. Um, I've traveled a lot.

jamie peacock: I know how to sleep on a plane. Then we picked up our rental car, which was super painless. um renting cars in america is amazing south africa they want proof of address and all sorts of stupid shit Yeah, it was like, who just give us your credit card and your driver's license and go.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, then we hopped in the car and drove seven and a half hours from New York to Ohio. The initial plan was to stop over somewhere for the night.

Curt: Whole game.

jamie peacock: Uh, And then I was like, well, lit. Then AJ and Jacob were at Justin's shop. So... I was like, let's see how we're feeling.

Curt: Mm.

jamie peacock: Maybe we'll push through. And we just fucking yeah smashed a monster and pushed. Um... We got there. And then we were at the shop till midnight.

Curt: Oh.

jamie peacock: Hanging out, talking shit.

Curt: I love it.

jamie peacock: Yeah. um And then, yeah, so that was the first night. john from the shop and the shop corporate i Uh... The Shop, American Manufacturing.

jamie peacock: He came through the next day and met us at HGR. So we went to HGR.

Curt: Oh,

jamie peacock: Dude. Dude. hdr Uh, made money at HDR. Oh, let me refresh that.

Curt: Oh really?

jamie peacock: Justin made money in each job. He paid for the stuff and then he jumped. So we were walking around looking at all the cool shit. We're in the tooling hall. And I'm like, ooh, a box of like random shit. What is this? Pick it up. RegoFix call it. Brand new PG -15.

Curt: Wow. Nice.

jamie peacock: $120 for the box of stuff. There were seven of them in it.

Curt: Oh, my God.

jamie peacock: So...

Curt: Oh, yeah, I'd grab that, too. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Grab that. Then I found a foreign shirt. Check. Barlock Fuzz? which was also another I think I ended up spending $25.

Curt: right

jamie peacock: I bought a box of random crap to get two 5C emergency collets. the big two inch ones

Curt: Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah

jamie peacock: i don't get them back home so i saw the box it had a bunch of random shits in it and some check valves uh so i bought that box and then you know justin took

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: Pictures of all the tags. went through paid for everything Uh... He had sold two of the collets before we left. we We're cash positive before we left.

Curt: Sick.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: That's awesome.

jamie peacock: Um, So yeah, HGR was amazing. Speaking of HGR, I have gifts.

Curt: was is ah Sorry, the camera's too potato -y.

jamie peacock: aye

Curt: Oh, a little brush? Oh, cute.

jamie peacock: I have two of them for you, maybe three. um I want one to play with.

Curt: Oh, really?

jamie peacock: Yeah, I got four of them in that same box.

Curt: Yeah. Holy shit, that's awesome.

jamie peacock: Yeah. i also got a bunch like a lot of stupid size collets uh there were two 5c collets um 7 8 22 .25 which i need for production bonus um there's a couple really good quality yeah er collets that i kept the metric ones um And then a bunch of Sandvik quarter -inch drills.

jamie peacock: call my trolls such crap. those out of the box the rest is getting donated or sold or whatever i literally don't care

Curt: Sick.

Curt: Huh? It's awesome.

jamie peacock: Yeah. And then I've got a 5C collet block as well, like a table mounted collet fixture.

Curt: Oh that's cool. Nice.

jamie peacock: Yeah, but yeah. the problem i have now is i have a 31 kilogram pelican case that needs to go home with me

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: So not an issue once we're in New York.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Non -issue. We've got a hundred and... 20 kilograms of luggage that can go back with us. The problem is flying.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: from here to new york we have no luggage on those flights But...

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: I'm willing to pay Pay the extra $50 per bag to get it to New York.

Curt: Yeah, I'd say just just pay the pay the baggage fee or whatever.

jamie peacock: Yeah. 100 % because the the amount of money that amount of stuff that's in my bags right now is terrifying like the value of the stuff that i have in my bags

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: So we'll do what we did on the way. I will split everything up and then... ah Go from there. So yeah, we had a... We had a meetup at Justin's shop. I am now feeling very inadequate having seen a Brother Speedio do a tool change.

jamie peacock: The LK is now dead to me.

Curt: oh Yeah.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Okay. ah

jamie peacock: No, dude, it's frickin'... Wild how quick that is. We did some testing of the... the handy seaman and his machine. Uh...

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: We did the TSC version.

Curt: Oh, okay.

jamie peacock: and it spins if you don't orient the spindle because the bar pass port is off center

Curt: yeah

Curt: ah Okay, cool.

jamie peacock: So I'm like, why is it spinning? Does the rotary coupling? He's like, no. It's just not locked. Um, So we did some testing there. And then, yeah, met Matt. Had a chat to Matt, got one of his.

jamie peacock: alignment jigs, the laser X, Y tables.

Curt: Oh, sick. Nice, nice. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yep.

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: So that's freaking cool uh another heavy thing to go back with me but Really really nice Yeah, he bought it. So he was like, do you want a fixture? I'm like, yeah, sure. And then he bought that and I'm like.

jamie peacock: danica come look and she's like yes we need it Like. Not optional. So we. made an arrangement there. um yeah so we had a meetup at justin's shop then went uh Then the next morning, we drove through to Ben's shop, two at Ben's shop still.

jamie peacock: ben's shop there'll be a video on aj's channel of that we did a shop tour um The intro to that is going to be so good.

Curt: Perfect.

jamie peacock: Um, Yeah, it... the intro to that video is going to be the greatest thing to the machining community ever um had a look at his nice vf no

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: In person.

Curt: Mm -hmm, mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: which was a surreal experience. And then... Yeah, we were there for like an hour. he had a meeting after that and the meetings got pushed out but then we wanted to hit the road um And then I went to AJ's shop.

jamie peacock: That was a... Extremely surreal. experience because it's a shop I'm familiar with. EXCEPTS

Curt: Right, right.

jamie peacock: It's bigger and smaller at the same time and also mirrored.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah. um That was cool. We got to play with Mongo. We machine supported Mongo. I got a carabiner. because i actually i wanted to back his kickstarter but that wouldn't ship to south africa

Curt: Right, right, right.

jamie peacock: So I got...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, I got a carabiner, which I - don't think i can do entropic on because i think the flexure that it'll deform with the heat

Curt: and might Yeah, I...

jamie peacock: So. Yeah. A bit unfortunate.

Curt: i left mine raw for that reason too i was just like i'll just leave this raw

jamie peacock: Yeah. I might do some. colour. I don't know. We'll see how I feel. um I see how he toured his shop, then... Sorry, thinking what we did the next day.

jamie peacock: to the shop Hang on, I have a list. Why am I... Why am I being stupid? Um...

Curt: okay

jamie peacock: yeah okay uh so we toured his shop and then oh yes i went uh so here to teach the next day on the friday So he's like, come past the shop. It's like a two minute detour.

jamie peacock: off of the freeway so jacob came with us we went through to the shop the next morning or to school And then I gave a lecture on workholding and zero points and whatnot. to his class because i'm there so apparently i need to teach them so i got to give a lecture which was quite cool uh danica's mom and her got to watch me Be a teacher.

Curt: Talk cool.

Curt: Oh, that's fun.

jamie peacock: Um, we toured that shop and then we hit the road and we pushed through to moria manufacturing

Curt: Oh, cool.

jamie peacock: Which was like a six -hour drive

Curt: Nice.

jamie peacock: Um, But yeah, went went and toured Easton's shop. Dude. Dude, that shop is so cool. Um, Obviously I had to walk around with my eyes closed and saw nothing.

jamie peacock: um

Curt: Sure. Yeah. yeah

jamie peacock: Yeah. um And then we assembled a handy seaman for him to test on 1000 PSI through coolant. through coolants

Curt: Oh, I don't find your

jamie peacock: It didn't explode. yet.

Curt: That'll find the flaws real fast. Yeah.

jamie peacock: And. fun so that one uh modified parts to fit the tool holder he bought he bought a mori tool dual contact Because he wanted a dual contact.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: So I had him give me a few measurements. I quickly modified the parts before I left. And then literally just so took the assembly jig with me, assembled it there. And did some testing. And then...

jamie peacock: We went to dinner. to a brazilian steakhouse which was f freaking cool like when we got there they've got i Are you familiar with the Totem? Yeah, so we got there.

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: I'm like... why the fuck would you ever turn this thing over yeah until they're basically beating you with meat um i think we turned it over and we like went to the salad bar and i took one of the children turned it back over so yeah like i understand like when you got there like

Curt: Ha ha! but

jamie peacock: Who the fuck's gonna say no? Yeah, no it was it was really, really good. um He recommended a hotel down the road from the shop. And I'm like... It's fine. We'll just book when we get there. luck In case anything comes up, but I want to pre -book it and then we're not there.

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: we'll book it when we get there. So we went to tour the shop, then we're like, oh, we'll go to the hotel quick, shit -shave shower. Go to dinner. We go there? Nope, no rooms available. Shit, okay. Find another hotel. Says there's rooms available on Agoda.

jamie peacock: drive 15 minutes there because like dinner's in 45 minutes No sorry, we have no rooms. like what's happening oh there's an iron man and a game a football game. Oh, that's the train.

Curt: Ho ho ho.

jamie peacock: Behind me. i'll send I'll send you a picture of the train tracks for the red line are literally behind me. like outside my window, like I could throw a rock and hit it.

Curt: Oh no.

Curt: Oh, nice.

jamie peacock: Um, So yeah, we went to another store internet at hotel. like Sorry, we don't have any rooms. like we like We need two rooms or we need a room with two beds. nope sorry they are fully booked so we found out there was a football game in town in madison and an Ironman.

jamie peacock: Sorry, like... Screw this. will Go to dinner? We have to park in a pocket. We'll go to dinner. We'll fucking just quickly change in the parking lot. It is what it is. Just freshen up. So... Went and parked, freshened up, took a walk to the steakhouse. um And then after dinner, we managed to find a hotel.

jamie peacock: We found a...

Curt: Nice, okay.

jamie peacock: I don't know even know what it was. But yeah, a a room with two queen beds. so We had somewhere to sleep for the night. Then woke up, went to a really, really nice bakery, really expensive bakery. But.

jamie peacock: Really nice. And apparently they pay their staff super well. Like Easton's like, you see, it's $5 for a cookie, but. it's really good and they look after their staff so Fucking A.

jamie peacock: So yeah, I went and had breakfast and sat in the park and talked shit with them a bit more.

Curt: Nice.

jamie peacock: Um, And then we got on the road and went to Norman's house.

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: So much fun.

jamie peacock: Norman, we gave Norman a shirt that says it's not hoarding if it's tools. Because that is appropriate. Um,

Curt: Oh yeah.

jamie peacock: So... after our conversation last week. where we were discussing building of machines and things.

Curt: Mm hmm. Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: I needed a 5C spindle. So I messaged Norman and was like, hey, Norman, do you have a 8L spindle core? He's Zach.

Curt: m

jamie peacock: No, but I've got a bunch of rapid turn ones. So...

Curt: Oh, nice. Yeah.

jamie peacock: There's a rapid -turn spindle in my bag.

Curt: Sick.

jamie peacock: or spindle core uh because i'm building a sliding head lathe

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: Oh don't tell me this. Don't tell me this.

jamie peacock: five C's sliding head with a one and a half meter integrated bar pusher

Curt: So there's not going to be. be good for either of us.

jamie peacock: It's going to be fucking great for me. um Yeah, so I've i've got plans afoot to build a sliding head and then yeah chatting to Norman. So turns out I spent two hours at Norman yesterday. It really did not feel like it. Danica and her mom went to go pick apples and shit. she just They just left me there.

jamie peacock: um And they came back two hours later, like, we need to hit the road. I'm like, no, I'm busy. um

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: So Norman gave me the hellfile for... for some of the machines so that I can do spindle orient. because I want to be able to spindle orient the sliding head lathe. for one of the part numbers I do.

Curt: Of course, yeah.

jamie peacock: um But yeah, that visiting Norman was... was absolutely awesome i got to see the 2200 Um, i got to touch uh 15l for the first time

Curt: o Yeah.

Curt: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: and play around on that. yeah i've never I've never had access to one. I can understand why they are so accurate. Looking at... how they built i can i can very much understand why they are as tight as they are

Curt: Mm.

jamie peacock: Um, Yeah, then we were chatting about... eat the cat and probes and yeah all sorts of fun stuff. um Very cool the way the the probe works on that on that machine.

jamie peacock: Out. I'll probably go into detail when I integrate it into my machine.

Curt: Yeah, yeah, I'm not super familiar. So yeah, I'd like to know

jamie peacock: ah Yeah, so basically... uh you tool change it in and then you have to set the m code to turn on the probe so it optically turns it on from the receiver.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: And if you sit. There's two inputs. If you put the one input high, it turns the probe the spindle probe. If you put the other input high, it turns the tool set on.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: And then when you turn that input off, it optically says turn off.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: of infrared it's it's quite an interesting setup so yeah i've got to find out how to get that integrated into the siemens It's on the list of things to do at IMTS is to har arrest the Siemens people. um about how to do that but

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: We did put a prompt to Claude and it looks like it's not super complicated. I may just have to mess around with some macros to make it power on or whatever.

Curt: Okay, yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: But that's not. ah particularly difficult.

Curt: Cool.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Cool.

jamie peacock: Yup. Then we left Norman. and came to Chicago. Yes, sir. So Danica drove us into Chicago. To the A, B, and B. I parked in front of the Airbnb, started off loading stuff.

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: Um, Went up and down the stairs seven times with 30 kilogram bags. It was super pleasant. Um,

Curt: but

jamie peacock: And then... i tried to arrange parking because It's $20 a night for parking at the Airbnb. And I try to arrange it for John.

Curt: Mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: And then we extended our car rental a day so that we wouldn't have to deal with carting. four or five very heavy bags on public transport.

Curt: Mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: And. We... Yeah, so... We... parked the car but it's permit parking after 6 pm So...

jamie peacock: The lady was like, yeah, it's $20 now, but I forgot to confirm it with her. I forwarded the message to John but didn't say hey. pay this this is the parking lot we didn't actually finish arranging it.

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: So she was trying to get hold of the the owner of the place to organize the permits.

Curt: Right.

jamie peacock: So I'm like, no worries. Danik and I went to Target. get some bottled water and some food and stuff. And then we came back. I stayed in the car while Danica carried stuff up because now it's off to 6 p .m.

Curt: Right.

jamie peacock: And we're like, screw this. We're just going to return the car. So we took it back to the airport, returned it. We're going to return it this morning. So we return the car. And then caught public transport back to the... To the Airbnb, which is...

jamie peacock: She did a banger job. of organizing this Airbnb.

Curt: Oh nice.

jamie peacock: from From over here, we took the blue train. to... Addison? took the one five two it comes to ridley field and it's like not even a block to the To the A, B, and B.

jamie peacock: And when we want to go to IMTS, it's not even a block.

Curt: I'll say.

jamie peacock: You get on the red line, which is behind us, and you ride it into town. And then you get on the, I think it's a 21 bus. So it it takes about an hour to get to IMTS. But. We're in a lovely little area.

jamie peacock: It's easy. got Yeah. I don't care that it takes an hour. I'm gonna talk shit with whoever I'm with for an hour. it's really not The end of the world.

Curt: Right. Yeah, totally.

jamie peacock: It's...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah. So. um I like it. It's a nice little condo. Got a bunch of rooms. One was meant to be for you, but you're weak.

Curt: Sorry, dude

jamie peacock: There's still a bunk bed available, just saying.

Curt: There's flights open on my screen right now, so let's just, yeah.

jamie peacock: Nice. i did't speak to your I did speak to your wife and say have you...

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: prodded Kurt into going to IMTS yet.

Curt: Yeah. How did she tell me about that?

jamie peacock: Yeah. I assume she showed you the thing she sent me.

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: Uh... Maybe.

jamie peacock: about what what to... ah What is a eternal for you? And then it's like, she didn't say trains. The guy's got his model trains.

Curt: Yeah, yeah

jamie peacock: I nearly died when she sent that to me.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, that was freaking crazy. um Yeah, I was like, that is so on point.

Curt: and

jamie peacock: Um, But yeah, that's that's basically been my week. um It. It has been very interesting seeing everyone's shops.

Curt: i bet yeah especially when you you like you said you only see by video so

jamie peacock: Also, Yeah. i also was uh told by one of our someone who listens and I chat to on a regular basis, that the word Mongo.

jamie peacock: In Norwegian. means retarded. which is just amazing.

Curt: Oh, perfect. That's so perfect.

jamie peacock: Yes. I don't know if a j AJ posted a shirt that Danica made him.

Curt: I... Don't know. I haven't even turned on Instagram today.

jamie peacock: Okay, so you are a robot with some...

Curt: though

jamie peacock: pink uh purple feathers on it dropping a vase and mongo no

Curt: Sick. ah Sick.

jamie peacock: yeah and it's an orange shirt like we had

Curt: That's awesome.

jamie peacock: We had Justin order an orange shirt for us because we couldn't get the right color orange. And then Danica and Justin's wife went and heat pressed it at their library. They booked time on the heat press and heat pressed it at the library.

Curt: Wow.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Wow, dedication.

jamie peacock: oh we came with We came with 34 t -shirts.

Curt: Damn, that's insane.

jamie peacock: of which I Think. More than half were given to people on the trip so far.

Curt: Okay, so just know Patreons, Jamie and his lovely wife Danica put in like 910 % more effort than I ever put into this podcast.

jamie peacock: So we're going to sit this evening and pack goodie bags. for the people at IMTS and the Patreons.

Curt: Mhm.

jamie peacock: um But yeah, like dude, yeah. the amount of effort Danica has put in. So, like, everyone's shirt is... appropriate for them. Justin's shirt is the Parchot shirt.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: and i was meant to make a spinner that actually spins and i forgot so now it doesn't have a spinner which just is even better

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, there's that um we gave Easton a brother shirt, a shirt with a brother that says Sister Slowio on it. Um...

Curt: Nice.

jamie peacock: AJ got the AJ shirt. Jacob got a Jacob, Jacob, Jacob shirt. We're in the Beezle juice.

Curt: Perfect.

jamie peacock: Cullis, yeah. um

Curt: All perfect.

jamie peacock: Yeah, freaking great.

Curt: Perfect. See?

jamie peacock: I'm trying to think who else we've given shirts to on the way. Oh, Norman got one. It's not ah it's not hoarding if it's tools.

Curt: Right. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Um...

Curt: Good.

jamie peacock: Yeah, we made one for Justin, for the rest of Justin's family. We made them each a shirt. I can't remember what they were though. I'm trying to think who else we've seen.

Curt: Awesome dude.

jamie peacock: Dude, it's been... it's been ah an absolute blast so far and like we haven't even got to imts yet

Curt: yeah Yeah, no doubt.

jamie peacock: Yeah, it's freaking... it's been it yeah. it's been eye -opening seeing the people's shops though like i need to now reprogram my general workflow to use zero points that i have in my machine because Why not?

Curt: Yeah. Yeah yeah yeah.

jamie peacock: So Justin was giving me endless shit about that, so... And I have to do that. But yeah, what's been going on your side of the... of the border.

Curt: do Compared to your life? Nothing. Just... production like boring stuff and me just basically hunching over my phone seeing what I can glean from your ah from your travels.

jamie peacock: Nice. Well, yeah, I've been posting nothing.

Curt: like yeah Yeah I know.

jamie peacock: Yo. Like I've been... I've been really bad about it One thing I did do is go to Micro Center.

Curt: Oh, it's busy.

Curt: oh

jamie peacock: Dude. Oh, yeah.

Curt: That's it.

jamie peacock: All right. Don't you like my little... A hard case. It's a little black hard case.

Curt: Ooh, pretty. Is that for your Retroid?

jamie peacock: No, that's for my camera gear.

Curt: Ooh.

jamie peacock: Yeah, so I had i had a Jacob me one of these. the little lav sets.

Curt: Horn.

jamie peacock: Um...

Curt: Sick.

jamie peacock: and that goes directly into the camera And then I've got...

Curt: Right.

jamie peacock: A magic arm with one of these clamps.

Curt: Oh, cute. Okay, ya yeah, yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, so that I got a micro sensor so that I can position my camera and do fanciness

Curt: Oh, yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: um but yeah yesterday we were at target and i'm like i need a little bag for my camera gear just so if i want to film i'll just grab the bag and it's like a little

Curt: Smart yeah.

Curt: Sure.

jamie peacock: It's like a little mini suitcase.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: So yeah, I grabbed...

Curt: That sounds nice too.

jamie peacock: I grabbed that, and that's got buck it's got the camera, got the marks, got the charges. Got the magic all minutes. I'm going to try to find them like a tiny tripod. for the just to extend the handle on the pocket as well

Curt: Right. Okay.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah. yeah

jamie peacock: So again, it's the tripod mount for the pockets. So I'll screw that on there and then I can go to the back as well.

Curt: cool

jamie peacock: But yeah. but Dude, MicroZento was cool. Been to Walmart multiple times. Bought a bunch of fishing tackle at the Walmart because... We can't get...

Curt: and

jamie peacock: tiny spinnerbaits back home. Like no one brings them in. So I literally bought like 15 of them and I'm going to leave a bunch with my brother.

Curt: okay

jamie peacock: So when he wants to ask for, she's got them.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: um Yeah, like I go to Walmart and buy that and then I bought... a bottle. which I posted on Instagram, and... have been sticker bombing i think this bottle is going to double in diameter by the time i also Got a doubling diameter.

Curt: I...

jamie peacock: as the lone machinist.

Curt: Can you Okay, cool.

jamie peacock: Yeah, ah this is going to probably double in diameter by the end of IMTS.

Curt: Cool. yeah

Curt: you You got a lot of stickers on it already, yeah.

jamie peacock: Just with stickers. Yeah, this is just... from stuff I picked up and I've seen or people I've seen so far.

Curt: Oh nice.

jamie peacock: Yeah, my favorite is the sand cut sand one in the GTA logo

Curt: Nice.

Curt: Dude. Perfect.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: That's great.

Curt: Yeah. then

jamie peacock: See ya!

Curt: they know their audience.

jamie peacock: I probably should buy another one of these and then have two because... Yeah, there's a... There's a boatload. of stickers.

Curt: Ha.

jamie peacock: But yeah, I'm very excited for IMTS tomorrow.

Curt: that's Sick.

jamie peacock: like We're going to go look at cool things.

Curt: Yeah, I am. Yeah, I'm very jealous. ah

jamie peacock: If you... If you do decide to come and you want to make it an overnight trip there is a spare bed.

Curt: Okay, i would I would probably just...

jamie peacock: You'll have to share the room with my mother -in -law, sorry.

Curt: No, not.

jamie peacock: Or we could put Danica there and we can spoon. I'm good with that too.

Curt: ah ah i Dude, I... Yeah. No, i'd probably I got ah some. a bunch of weird family stuff this week so uh it would probably be just be like a super early arrival and a super late departure but

jamie peacock: Yep.

Curt: I'll see.

jamie peacock: Sweet -up

Curt: um Yeah. We'll see.

jamie peacock: Yeah, well if if you do we will make a plan we will

Curt: Yeah, dude

jamie peacock: happily shift shit to make it fit into what you're doing

Curt: oh yeah no i just yeah it looks it looks like so much fun i'm just getting more jealous by the days ah

jamie peacock: Um. Dude. That's the plan. mahaha

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: yeah I'm quite excited to see everyone else at IMTS like it's been

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: It's been a very busy week so far, but... worth it like Yeah. um I've got a four -inch Czech vase, which I'm trying to find manuals and CAD models for now. because it's a retired line from them so finding it That's dead to them, basically.

jamie peacock: Um, i need to it's stupid threaded so i need to just fix the threads on the whole thing uh it's some imperial bullshit and i don't feel like dealing with that so i'm just going to re -thread all the holes to be and put heli coils

Curt: Yeah, okay.

jamie peacock: No. Okay. make it metric because metric is superior

Curt: Oh yeah, that's, yeah. Say that lots while you're here too. They love it.

jamie peacock: oh i'm going to that's why i have rulers to give to everybody he has a correct measurement system Um, yeah so i'm gonna troll the fuck out of them while i'm yeah but yeah really nice fast hundred dollars like i mean look i was gonna buy another one of the forge vases i have but now i've got a dual station so

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Winning.

Curt: I. Yeah. the The problem is I don't even realize, like, I know people by Micro Center. And I know people that go to it all the time. like I'm sure I could bribe somebody.

Curt: You'll be like, hey, if you ever find anything in this, I'll pay you double whatever you buy there and cover the shipping. because like it's It's not insane to ship freight up to my land, but yeah.

jamie peacock: No.

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: But yeah, HDR's a...

Curt: Bad idea.

jamie peacock: Oh, there's a lathe that I wanted to buy. $1 ,200, little gang lathe.

Curt: That's not see that's nuts.

jamie peacock: It's...

Curt: That's insane

jamie peacock: Dude, my Google box?

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: has literally got like i think it's 26 out of 34 tags uh tabs

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: are scans from a shock as you go around and you just scan the qr code and it opens the listing

Curt: Right. Yeah.

jamie peacock: so that's how you check the price like dude there's a bunch i found a birther at HDR. Like literally the same machine.

Curt: Oh yeah?

jamie peacock: under under a different name, but I'm like this.

Curt: Cool.

jamie peacock: The shape looks familiar, and I'm looking... like This is a birther. um saw some robots there was a five axis dmg like a mini dmg um But it was marked as sold, unfortunately. AJ. was gonna try and acquire it.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: ah be cool

jamie peacock: yeah there are a lot of cool stuff like and just rows and rows of crap

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: Fuck.

Curt: Yeah. Thanks.

jamie peacock: Wild. while there was a bunch of machines that were literally stripped and going out for scrap Knocked the...

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: column had been taken over it was laying on top sideways do you know it's going out for scrap um But yeah, HDR is really, really cool.

Curt: Yeah, I know I perused their site and it's yeah, it's ridiculous

jamie peacock: You shouldn't. uh yeah i got to see some swisses there which was kind of cool

Curt: I know it's a bad idea.

jamie peacock: um

Curt: That's cool.

jamie peacock: Yeah. ah And being encouraged to build a... dual spindle lathe but for now we're going to go sliding head single spindle We can dual spindle it later.

Curt: So interesting. that is super super tempting

jamie peacock: Yeah, I mean... My machine's going to be about two meters long. because one and a half meters of that is bar feeder.

Curt: Yeah, okay.

jamie peacock: um and then the parts it's going to be limited to like probably 100 millimeters of travel So you can make 100mm long parts.

Curt: Sure.

jamie peacock: That's what we need. that that That is what we need it for.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Totally.

jamie peacock: Setting it is going to be a really interesting thing Um... Just because your tools are stationary in Z. And you're moving your head towards like it.

Curt: Right, yeah.

jamie peacock: It's the same, but... It's the same but different.

Curt: Totally. Yeah.

jamie peacock: No.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: um So, yeah, we will see. um tempted to go ethercats on it but we will we'll see how the budget looks when i get back

Curt: I know I was, uh,

jamie peacock: Also, I brought some handy Siemens with.

Curt: Go ahead.

Curt: Oh, okay.

jamie peacock: One so far is not spoken for.

Curt: that's that's awesome dude

jamie peacock: of all my stock Yeah. um

Curt: That's awesome.

jamie peacock: So Kyle's picking one up. Then I got a message from someone. on Instagram. Hey, do you have any with you? Can I buy one? I'm a casual. Sadlock! bar pass no problem i've got one more left and then i've got one through air one which i'm going to throw at harrison and convince him to buy

Curt: sick that's awesome that's good

jamie peacock: Yo. Yeah, that's fucking great.

Curt: See? you're making money.

jamie peacock: Dude, literally, yeah, this has been a ah profitable trip so far and we haven't even started pushing the workholding stuff yet. Like that's IMTS.

Curt: okay

jamie peacock: So yeah, it's it's been fun. It's been a lot of fun. there the trip

Curt: That's cool.

jamie peacock: No.

Curt: That's so cool.

jamie peacock: It's, yeah, it's... It's been a freaking blast. And yeah, Danica and her mom, are going but they want to go into Chicago to the Bean this morning. Go look at it, just set bearings so that we know how to get to and from the Airbnb nicely.

Curt: Right.

jamie peacock: Um... Because once I'm there, I can get to... Um... to IMTS no problem. Like I know which road to walk to to catch a bus that'll take me to IMTS.

Curt: Right right, right

jamie peacock: So yeah, that's going to be... It's going to be fun. Tomorrow morning, leaving early, leaving at like seven. Get to IMTS at about 8, because we need to go visit Al. and drop off some stuff for the meetup and then Go look at machines.

Curt: Excite. site.

jamie peacock: Yeah, I'm going to spend a lot more time in the tooling and... workholding booths this time mm -hmm Because...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: tooling is like i saw uh Frazier AXFPF. FPS, s whatever it is, the frickin' thing. I'm like... That thing looks violent.

Curt: Oh, yeah. Yeah, those yeah those are insane.

jamie peacock: Yeah. i can see why everyone loves them it looks like a very very violent tool um Amen. Yeah, ah Justin was... I was watching his speedo run. We were discussing tools and... Set up.

jamie peacock: and stuff so i'm going to change my workflow i'm going to model my Um, All of my self -centering vases I'm going to make blank models for, like literally just dummies. It's a fucking square block. this is where the center of it is because it's a self -centering vase the center is always the center Um, that when i want to do something i can literally just pull that into my model space it from the bottom of the model generate my stock and hit go

Curt: Right, right, right. Yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: and get that zero -point workflow going. Um, Although now I'm gonna add a... at a probe, but Yeah, anyway.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: You may as well have...

Curt: but Besides the point.

jamie peacock: May as well not have to measure.

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: like It doesn't take long, but it takes longer than it needs to take, like than it could take to set jobs up.

Curt: Yeah, well, totally. Yeah, exactly.

jamie peacock: Yeah. so let's Let's be fancy and adopt a... zero point workflow considering I'll sell zero points.

Curt: It's Yeah, I'd say you better be. yeah

jamie peacock: Yeah, and I do Like I've got fixtures and I use zero points on fixtures. I just don't use them on... op one roughing because i probe the blocks in because if the block size varies then it's a it's a problem

Curt: Sure.

jamie peacock: All right.

Curt: Yeah, yeah, totally

jamie peacock: Also...

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: oo oh you Oh, I know that i know that sound. Ha ha.

jamie peacock: Yep. So he was making...

Curt: JustinGrayLabs .com. Is that where it's at?

jamie peacock: Yep.

Curt: Or he's completely sold out now.

jamie peacock: Um, yeah. Yes, yes. This is the last one of the... uh quarter inch versions he's going big i think he's going three eighths to get a better air bearing fit.

jamie peacock: But AJ... has got a a project he gives his students.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: called the fidget cube. It's a... one inch by one inch by one inch cube

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: well one inch cube uh with chamfers and it's got a half inch hole in it And the idea is it's a cube.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: all the tolerances are tight but it goes on the end of an end mill and just Spins for days. So it's super fidgety.

Curt: Mm, cool.

jamie peacock: Yeah, so I might steal that from him and make some. um And by steal it, I mean remodel it because it's a one -inch cube with a ball.

Curt: Yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: Yep.

Curt: Yeah exactly.

jamie peacock: No, I think I might make myself some out of brass. I've got some... it might be a bit smaller i've got some like 22 millimeter square brass sitting around at the shop so i may just make myself a couple to fidget with although having it on an end mill is

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: A tad risky.

Curt: Yeah, well, whatever.

jamie peacock: Because...

Curt: Just be tough. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Enmils are sharp. um yeah i was thinking of just buying some like 12 millimeter linear rail and having them cut at the length for me and then having it on a piece of linear shaft. because it's pretty cheap and then...

jamie peacock: i can make a few as gifts or whatever but yeah it's a really cool fidget toy

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Not that this isn't.

Curt: That's cool.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: o Let me not cut the cable with it.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: um

Curt: Good.

jamie peacock: So um I sent Ben a message this morning with one of my purple flux next to it. And I'm like, I'm going to anode the alibots.

Curt: Yeah, it would Cause is that a, is that. Is that green or is that yellow? I can't quite see on the...

jamie peacock: This is the acid green.

Curt: Okay, cool.

jamie peacock: It's like a lime green.

Curt: Yeah, that looks so nice

jamie peacock: Yeah Dude, it'll look so sweet with the purple

Curt: Oh, with but purple?

jamie peacock: Yeah. I was like, yeah, maybe I'll do gray, maybe purple.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: He's like, do the purple. It'll be hot as fuck. So yeah, I'll strip it and then anode it and it'll be.

Curt: Oh yeah.

jamie peacock: It'll be f freaking cool. But yeah, i got to see his setup, got to see his anchor points. Um, that he's running his production on. it's That's cool.

Curt: Cool.

jamie peacock: Yeah, looking forward to seeing Ben this week at IMG.

Curt: That's awesome. yeah

jamie peacock: That's actually a thing for this evening. I need to make a CSV for Arda because... They will print tags for me if I give them a CSV.

Curt: Oh, right. Yeah, that's how they're yeah that's how they's selling their crack to all of us.

jamie peacock: Yeah, so... Pretty much. And at $35 a month. Happy to fucking pay it.

Curt: Oh, yeah, no, it's great price crack. Yeah, 100%.

jamie peacock: It's got to save me an entire hour per month one fucking hour And it'll do that.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: like i' and I've got spreadsheets for the anchor points. I'm now gonna... pull that i'm going to add in all the handy semen hardware uh added my re -roller hardware And then. everything can be can be packed properly and ordered properly.

Curt: Proper.

jamie peacock: because yeah and also barnacle hardware also mr gray is a very bad influence

jamie peacock: So is Eastern at that.

Curt: understandable. What did he do?

jamie peacock: I... that measure so easton sent me a message about how much money he's made off of the barnacle

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: Yeah, it's a stupid amount.

Curt: and

jamie peacock: In the literal month he's had it. He's like, you need to put your bras up. So. We're going to re -look at pricing on the barnacles.

Curt: Mm hmm.

jamie peacock: But we're also going to make them out of stainless. out of 303 stainless the whole thing

Curt: Oh.

jamie peacock: They're going to be a bit more spendy, but...

Curt: hohohohoho

jamie peacock: Justin enabled that. Let's put it that way. he gave me a little something that enables that because i didn't really want to but Yeah.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: I have a way to do it now.

Curt: Oh, Pinterest -ing, Pinterest -ing.

jamie peacock: Hmm? It's nothing super fancy. as a tool holder but uh yeah we have a way to do it reliably like reasonably now so what i'll do is see i think it fits in a 30 millimeter round bar uh if it does i'm just going to order a length of 30 mil stainless and have call blank blanks for me And then throw them.

Curt: Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: probably in a dovetail vase if i'm honest

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Um, And then... Hold them in a barnacle and machine a barnacle in a barnacle. on an anchor point

Curt: Heh heh. Incest.

jamie peacock: as one does. Yeah, well... You got to, you got to, what's it? Don't get high on your own supply.

Curt: Yeah, or do. yeah

jamie peacock: Oh, dude, in my case. um yeah so are we're gonna we're gonna do a stainless version when i get back

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: oh that does look pretty I'll just look for it.

jamie peacock: That way we've got. we've got the entry entry point covered and then if you want to go higher you can go or like better you can go better

Curt: Every time I make a like a fixture or something out of steel as opposed to like aluminum, I'm like...

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Oh, this is always better. Like, this is always better.

jamie peacock: 100%.

Curt: It's just like...

jamie peacock: No, definitely, but making them out of aluminium is literally piss easy.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Making them out of stainless is going to be a bit more of a ball ache.

Curt: Oh totally.

jamie peacock: um But not so much of a ball ache that I'm not willing to do it.

Curt: Absolutely. Absolutely.

jamie peacock: It requires like where I can get away with using a single tool. in ali i now need to do roughing finishing

Curt: Sure. Yeah that makes sense.

jamie peacock: but I will suck it up and I will make it happen. so

Curt: Huh.

jamie peacock: Like it's really not it's really not the end of the world.

Curt: Cool. Oh, does it looks so pretty.

jamie peacock: uh but yeah we're gonna do them i don't know i might look into passivating or blacking or something i don't know

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah, even just raw raw stainless would look sick.

jamie peacock: Yeah. Just tumbled stainless.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: That's what it'll be. um

Curt: Totally.

jamie peacock: yeah so we'll we'll see what what we end up going with there but yeah new products yay

Curt: Yep.

Curt: Yay.

jamie peacock: I also have... ah I've been having evil thoughts regarding pneumatic vases.

Curt: That's awesome.

Curt: Okay. What kind of evil?

jamie peacock: i think i know I think I know how I can do it. cost -effectively

Curt: Ooh, okay.

jamie peacock: and with a decent uh longevity

Curt: Okay, interesting.

jamie peacock: It's based on something I saw last IMTS. the way I'm going to do the sliding surfaces.

Curt: thank

jamie peacock: But...

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: yeah we'll see and then i have a way to get a lot of force out of it by pulling a tour mark and doing a staged cylinder So the vase proportionally will be very tall for its size.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: But yeah, aimed at small, small part.

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: holding like it's not going to be a a four inch wide vice. It's going to be like a two inch wide or. Two and a half inch wide Voss.

Curt: Well... I'm going to undercut you and I'm just going to hot glue a pneumatic wrench to the end of a vise and call it done.

jamie peacock: So... Done that. Put a geared stepper motor. onto a zendai vase. And then you tartan with u tartan at higher RPM.

Curt: Okay, yeah

jamie peacock: Then you loosen. because stepper motor torque drops off so then you can always tighten and reliably loosen

Curt: Right.

jamie peacock: um But yeah, Numerica's cooler. Ed Foster.

Curt: Yeah, for sure. For sure.

jamie peacock: But yeah, there's many ways to skin a cat.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: um But, yeah. I think I might go down the pneumatic vase route just for shits and giggles. um And just add an option.

Curt: That's it.

jamie peacock: to the markets.

Curt: You don't have a lot of things going on anyways, so you better fill your time with something else.

jamie peacock: No, not at all The thing is like...

Curt: Yeah, totally

jamie peacock: if you if you've got a limited travel machine

Curt: This is it.

jamie peacock: And I can make a vase that the whole body of the vase is say three inches cube or three inches square. You can put two vases in the space that you could.

Curt: Mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: you would put one. And that's the thing, like... a machine space comes at a premium at a certain point

Curt: Yeah, totally.

jamie peacock: So trying to build out a...

Curt: For sure.

jamie peacock: A whole lot of things. uh but yeah we'll see when when i get back how much time and availability i have um

Curt: Haha.

jamie peacock: I'm still waiting for updated drawings, which I should get tomorrow so that I can finally finish quoting this. ah the job that I have to do as soon as I get back.

Curt: Good luck doing anything when you get back with all the little treasures you're bringing along. You're going to want to just play.

jamie peacock: Dude, I've got to... I've got a job that needs to, I'm probably going to have to enclose the LK as soon as I get back and put an air con.

Curt: Oh why?

jamie peacock: The pot is a meter long. There's a section of holes. over

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: 706 millimeters. that they want a positional of like two thou

Curt: oh Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: so

Curt: that's good

jamie peacock: I have a degree window.

Curt: Yeah, for sure. Yeah, you're going to have to keep that. Temperature controlled.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: At that size, anyways.

jamie peacock: SOMA. My current thought is to... it pulled a box around the machine that basically just enclosed my machine

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: um With. a drywall frame or an OSB frame and some insulation, throw an aircon into my office. and then let the machine saturate. Do all the roughing.

jamie peacock: And then let it saturate. Do all the drilling. let it come back to temperature and then do all the boring with the boring head So low RPM that the spindle's not going at mock Jesus.

Curt: Yeah, probably wise.

jamie peacock: and just use a boring ball and just bore the in a boring head and just bore all the balls in one go. and try and keep the machine as at temperature as I can.

Curt: Yeah. that's Yeah, that's not a bad approach.

jamie peacock: Uh...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I think that's the only way I'm going. I don't think they're going to be able to measure it. Realistically. I don't think they're gonna measure it. But... They're calling out silly tart tolerance, so let's try and hold silly tart tolerance. And then I get an air con to office. Fucking A.

Curt: Yeah, that's pretty decent.

jamie peacock: Knock.

Curt: Yeah

jamie peacock: Bonus. Yeah, so I'm going to have to, I'm charging them to enclose my machine. I'm just like, you want this at the spot. this is what it's going to have to be if you want it as accurate as you want it.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: I know it's just a jig, but I don't care. Because there's two...

Curt: I don't think people re - Yeah.

jamie peacock: two plates, 400 mils by a meter. And then... There's two rails that are made of 700mm sections. that add up to be 2 .8 meters long.

Curt: Yeah, and like... Aluminum? like that With the expansion rate per degree, like...

jamie peacock: Yeah. Yeah, 23 microns per meter per degree.

Curt: Gee, that's tough.

Curt: Yeah, like that blows your tolerance super fast.

jamie peacock: yeah it's gone so we've got to be very strategic about how we do this job and keep the coolant at temperature keep the casting at temperature like it's it's a challenge so i'll probably phone the guy this week and just be like hey i am working on your stuff

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: This is the situation. I'm gonna get back and I'm gonna have to build a fucking wall. and just enclosed the whole LK section of the workshop.

Curt: The best answer for him would be like, that's perfect. That's what we need. The worst answer for him is going to be like. Oh, and we'll just, we'll open it up to 10 ,000. Like, it doesn't matter. It's just for gluing wood together or something.

jamie peacock: I... It does.

Curt: You're like, you're an idiot.

jamie peacock: Night. It does matter. I know where it's going. Um,

Curt: and Okay.

jamie peacock: The PCBs that get ah bolted to the composite buildup. they're like oh we put a huge tolerance it's got comma one of a millimeter slots on the holes

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: Yep.

Curt: All right, so they need it. Yeah.

jamie peacock: It's uh, yeah. Hmm. Yes. It's used for presenting of exploding. um So, yeah.

Curt: Okay.

jamie peacock: But...

Curt: but

jamie peacock: Dude, yo this thing hurts my brain to look at. The design isn't even done and they want me to start making jigs. I'm like. I need to know what drill bushes go into the sink so I can get them on order because those are going to still be probably 20 days out.

Curt: Right.

jamie peacock: and i'm gonna need to press them in like i'm considering pressing them in with the lk

Curt: right

Curt: Yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: Just because holding that plate in the press is going to just be stupid. So it's...

Curt: is Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah. Fun fun times. um how's your son How's your big batch of pens going?

Curt: Great. i'm just surrounding myself for production actually had a few pens that i had to finish out because usually when i sell a lottery

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: um I don't. cap what people can buy and i just do my best estimate and sometimes i get it wrong In this case, I did. And a few people were like, hey, it's sold out. i'm like Yeah, no worries. just tell me what you want and i'll quickly make them for you so i had i I have those done now.

jamie peacock: Okay.

jamie peacock: Awesome.

Curt: Anodized crazy colors once again. Uh...

jamie peacock: As always.

Curt: Yeah, and then I did a... blastroid finished pen uh that one customer suggests the name for which is just like a crazy anodizing and then retumbled to give it like a Battleborn look.

jamie peacock: oh okay cool Is that the one you posted?

Curt: Yeah, so... Uh, yeah, like the purpley, purpley blue one. I don't know. Anyway, i'll I'll put a proper post about it at some point here. I just just did a story about it because I just been freaking nine irons in the fire at once.

jamie peacock: Yeah, I know I did see something in your stories because ah you're on the list of people whose stories I'll watch as soon as they come up.

Curt: Um,

Curt: I appreciate it. um Anyways, that came out super nice.

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: i wanted to I had to get media that I wanted because the media I have for everything is super tiny. So when you try to do like...

jamie peacock: ah Yeah.

Curt: Yeah, if you just try to do it like a distressed finish, it just...

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: It goes everywhere. So it's like, well, it just looks.

jamie peacock: Yeah, you need big media.

Curt: Yeah, so anyways, i had just I found some monster media. It took me forever.

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: But yeah, I've got some giant stuff now.

jamie peacock: By monster media, you mean like quarter inch by quarter inch. Yeah.

Curt: it's like it's it's three eights by one inch so

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: It's...

jamie peacock: That's a pretty big go.

Curt: It's chonky. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: um But yeah, it works great for that.

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: And then, ah yeah, I don't know. just That. that's and

jamie peacock: Awesome.

Curt: nothing Nothing too insane in my world. Just. Pining over all you. people and Yeah.

jamie peacock: Uh... Well... Yeah. I'm not even going to bother trying to transition properly. We have Patreons.

Curt: o

jamie peacock: The patrons. make the wheels. On the Moncourt, go round and round.

Curt: o

jamie peacock: Yes. um yeah special thing or thank you to all the patrons you've made this I'm TS Tripp. actually feasible. um patrons on the six dollar and above tier get access to the after show every week i don't think there'll be an after show this week or next week um Just because of...

jamie peacock: the way we process it and our current tech situation, not ideal. But yeah, at the top.

jamie peacock: Talk to your patrons. I'll get a shout out every week. And that list is Jade from Benchmark20, Luke from Fabtastic, AJ from Subtract Manufacturing, who has a really cool shop, Jason S, EJ from Nocturnal Welding, The Aussie Machinist, Christian Olsen, Charles Watt, Kyle from Cursed Machina, who I'm going to see today or tomorrow, Matt from Offworld Gear, Alex B, John from 2SM Performance and Engine Tricks, who should arrive here today or tomorrow, Matt from Modern Fuel, Josh from Latent Machina should arrive here. later today greg from tabletop machine shop ben from prickly pear prototypes and jesse from Data Proto.

jamie peacock: um Thank you patrons, you really have made a... Huge dance in the Airbnb here that Kurt was meant to stay in but is now not bunking with my mother -in -law.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: But yeah.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, sorry, patrons. no No off show this week. The way we process it, it's just not going to fly for for the trip.

Curt: I think they'll forgive us Yeah.

jamie peacock: I think so. like I'm gonna see most of them, so it'll be fun.

Curt: the fact

jamie peacock: Yeah, we...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: We came in with 10 kilograms of candy. to give out.

Curt: That's a lot of candy.

jamie peacock: That's just the candy. there's still more things that are going in.

Curt: o

jamie peacock: Like we're taking a whole suitcase, so a whole ass rolling suitcase to IMTS for the meetup tomorrow.

Curt: hm Wow.

jamie peacock: Yeah, with goodie bags. and things. and stuff. So it's going to be. gonna be fun um but yeah looking forward to to seeing people yeah i got to hang out with jacob jacob jacob for two days.

Curt: Oh cool.

jamie peacock: Three days? A number of days. which was great. He drove with us around quite a bit. um and stayed with us at j uh AJ's parents' cabin. Someone put the cabin key on my car keys.

jamie peacock: And I grabbed the car keys the next day. I'm like. I don't remember there being another key on ya. But yeah, don't know who put it on there, but I have his dad's cabin's keys with me.

Curt: Ooh. Party.

jamie peacock: Yes, so they are... yeah they're going to ints please i'll give them back to aj

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: Very up.

jamie peacock: Because he messaged me like, have you seen the cabin key? I'm like, dude, we didn't use it. Like, we locked the door from the inside of the Tony Tony. um

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: yeah someone put them on my car keys and i'm like i'm sure there wasn't a key but maybe there was like Yeah, because it's not...

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: ah It was... keyless so you just walk up and open the fucking door

Curt: Mm -mm.

jamie peacock: um so like i wasn't putting the key in the ignition so i didn't pay that much attention to the keys

Curt: Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: So. Yeah, so it was just a thing on the keys. Oh my god, that's... i don't remember whatever but yeah luckily before we returned the car we discovered that

Curt: Mmm.

jamie peacock: Otherwise it would have been a bit of a shitshow.

Curt: Yeah, no doubt.

jamie peacock: just Just a little bit of a shit show.

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: talk So what what is in your Google box, Kurt?

Curt: Sick.

Curt: ah There's actually a...

jamie peacock: Nothing.

Curt: There's a lot of my Google box because that's one thing I've been messing with I go W international game of whoop

jamie peacock: Ah.

Curt: ah If anybody flies, little whoops. they do like a challenge and you can like partake and you upload your dvr footage and then there's There's there's like a ton of, there's like.

jamie peacock: Nice.

Curt: 20 or... $40 ,000 in prizes or something crazy?

jamie peacock: Oh, jeez. Okay.

Curt: Yeah, the the challenges get really hard. um But any anyway, it goes.

jamie peacock: Hmm.

Curt: I think this next season starts, well, there's a race season coming up, but if you like the freestyle like I do, it's ah I think the next season starts in April. um, or preseason.

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: Anyways, um, bunch of stuff uh some exercising stuff because i don't know how to do certain things oh uh i have i have a sphere of large underwater objects, which is mainly...

Curt: man -made uh so sub mecha Sub -mecha -phobia is what it's called.

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: Uh... Yeah. just i don't know like if you like look at at like a giant if like scuba diving and seeing a giant ship propeller like i'm not petrified but like i would do it

jamie peacock: Well, yeah, you're gonna get munched. Bah, the prop, obviously scared of it.

Curt: Yeah, but... and even if the Even if the ship was just like, let's say, dry docked. Or not dry dock, in the dock. um

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: And like you could go scuba diving. I would still do it, but I would be like super freaked out the whole time because like, I don't know.

jamie peacock: Well, yeah, because incompetence. You don't want some dickhead turning it on unannounced.

Curt: just even that but like even if I like a huge underwater structure it's just like it's so eerie looking when it just appears out of nowhere you're like what the fuck is that

jamie peacock: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Anyways, I don't know if that was actually called a thing. um Falls falls under like the thalassa phobia like fear of giant things or something like that

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: which is... Yeah, I don't know. Just me and the wife were talking about that stuff. uh kilograms to pounds because That's... Yeah, whatever. Um...

jamie peacock: two to one. Well, 2.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: one.

Curt: Roughly, yeah. yeah two to two do two but two I just had to make sure my brain was right. And then... current time in your land because I couldn't remember the time difference.

jamie peacock: Oh, yes.

Curt: so

jamie peacock: well yeah i could except the wrong way

Curt: yeah

Curt: Yeah, no doubt. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Oh, and a shit ton of flights, which are actually really cheap. Do you know how many kilograms of CO2 are emitted to get my ass to Chicago and back?

jamie peacock: A made up number, yes.

Curt: Or to get my ass to Chicago? 251 kilograms of CO2 emissions, which doesn't mean anything. I have no idea, but it's listed on the flights now.

jamie peacock: made up. made -up bullshit. yeah

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Um, Yeah, ma.

Curt: What's on yours?

jamie peacock: my google box is hgr 28 out of 34 tabs then

Curt: but

jamie peacock: South African police force funny pics. So you search SAPS funny pics and there are a bunch of memes about our police officers.

Curt: Mhm.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Nice.

jamie peacock: yeah pocket three stuff been googling for stuff and then uh hollyland lav marks Because I got Jacob to order me a set and have them delivered to Justin.

Curt: Cool. Yep.

jamie peacock: so that i have a Dude those marks are amazing.

Curt: Oh yeah.

jamie peacock: do

Curt: Sick.

jamie peacock: Amazing. Lock. absolutely phenomenal i've got a lab set at home and they are useless

Curt: val

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: These are.

Curt: oh yeah

jamie peacock: Bye. next level good. and they got all the funny face stickers like i put the face stickers on mine so that i could keep them differentiated from jacob's because he's got the same set

Curt: Oh, okay.

jamie peacock: but the Topsy OTG

Curt: Yeah. yeah

jamie peacock: Oh, the top C receiver? you plug it into the osmo nano and it just works On to the Osmo.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: pocket and it just just works. So I can use it with my. Uh, with. The camera. Hot. or you go type C to type C to the camera receiver, and then you can adjust the volume on the fly. because the camera receiver has a volume knob.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Nice.

jamie peacock: yeah so i'm still trying to work out my workflow i might end up just making like a little handle tray thing that has the receiver on it and everything. So that I can get good audio.

Curt: cool

jamie peacock: and have a handle on that camera because the it's too short for my hand It's made for Chinese people's hands.

Curt: I've heard that a lot. Yeah, a lot of people say it's pretty tiny.

jamie peacock: Yeah, so the the little extender cock makes a big difference. This is the tripod adapter.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: It does help a lot. But yeah, it is made for people with very small hands. While I was playing in the settings.

Curt: I think most people.

jamie peacock: Dude. That thing's awesome. Like the DJI products, they really knock it out of the park.

Curt: They do.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah, as much as I love to hate on DJI, they kind of slay when it comes to that land.

jamie peacock: Yep. That's it. Like, yeah, all the scaly shit they do, but... their products work well like that's bamboo bamboo's xdgr um engineers and it shows in the user interface and like just the

Curt: Hmm.

jamie peacock: how you work with the machine. It's made to just work.

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: Oh, that's actually what I had open. I had open ah printers because I had to print something and I kind of got frustrated with my printer.

jamie peacock: Ooh.

Curt: So I was like, fuck this. So I opened.

jamie peacock: Yes.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: What did you get?

Curt: Actually, I was looking at the. I was looking at the Prusa ones. Uh,

jamie peacock: Ah, okay.

Curt: Just because I i'd i'd like... I like not having a cloud. in between me and what I want to print.

jamie peacock: You don't have to have the cloud between you and your printer.

Curt: Not that I want to print anything.

Curt: I know, but the whole point of bamboo is it makes it...

jamie peacock: I just... Don't give a fuck.

Curt: Yeah, it makes it better.

jamie peacock: I just send butt plugs. constantly

Curt: Yeah, yeah, exactly so.

jamie peacock: And I orient them the wrong way so that I'm training their bottom correctly.

Curt: Well, that's going to be horrible because then once you're in the farm, it's like, oh, this is the way these go in. It's like, no, no, no, no, other way, other way. Good. sure

jamie peacock: Was it you said be the... the key thing for when you go surfing Someone sent me a thing where it's uh the butt plug the egg -shaped part that you put your key in and then you screw the handle on the back

Curt: and Oh yeah.

jamie peacock: The flange?

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: so that you can put it in a suit.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: It doesn't get wet while you're surfing.

Curt: I didn't send that to you, but I'm pretty sure.

jamie peacock: Okay.

Curt: i so Or maybe I did send it to you. I don't know.

jamie peacock: yeah Someone sent it to me and I was fucking nearly died.

Curt: I've seen it, though.

jamie peacock: Oh. That was great.

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Where were we?

jamie peacock: Yeah, like so yeah, I like my bamboo. I want to buy another one. Danica was swearing at me. She's like, you said this was going to be the printer for the next, forever. I'm like. my parts don't fit i need a bigger one I'm going to sell this one to call and I'm going to buy a bigger one.

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: I'm going to buy a P2S.

Curt: Nice. Yeah.

jamie peacock: I think when I get back.

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: ah Either that or the A1. Just buy an A1 and put a box around it.

Curt: That's the one problem is because like I look at the like I look at that prusa idex or whatever like where the separate tool heads where you have like no waste tower no purge no anything for multi -color print and it's like

jamie peacock: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Do you need any of that?

Curt: No, but if I'm going to buy a crazy printer, I'm going to buy a crazy printer.

jamie peacock: Exactly.

Curt: um actually i

jamie peacock: Don't buy a cheap printer and just go

Curt: i would want I would want two because I like to do a lot of prints with support and I would like to use... like different materials for support without having to wait.

jamie peacock: sure

Curt: nine years for it to. Purge Tower and shit.

jamie peacock: yes

Curt: Um, And then the anyways, besides point. But yeah, it's like. You know. four grand plus another like 500 bucks to ship it to me. And it's like, they're fighting a market that's hard to compete with when the bamboo comes out and I can buy one tomorrow for like two grand. It's like.

jamie peacock: That's the thing.

Curt: Mm.

jamie peacock: um

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: So we were at Micro Center. Um... Sorry, one sec. 3D. printing starts we'll see if we got stock um and Jake appoints not that the... Pichu.

jamie peacock: d i think has got a... direct drive extruder and then a bowden extruder That's how they kept the tool head weights not insane.

Curt: oh oh Interesting.

jamie peacock: let's

Curt: Oh. Oh, sorry.

jamie peacock: I can't

Curt: I thought you froze.

jamie peacock: No, no. oh There we go. ah 3d printing store will not let me access their website from the US.

Curt: Yeah, but... Because we don't. We don't like you people over there. Apparently.

jamie peacock: What the shit?

Curt: I don't know.

jamie peacock: I wanted to see if they had stock. um But anyway. uh apparently they're getting a1s in stock like in the next week or so

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: so then i might respond a1 because they're also cheap as beans and they do what i need them to do

Curt: Yeah, totally.

jamie peacock: I don't need an enclosed printer.

Curt: That's the thing, right?

jamie peacock: an enclosed print is nice because I can put things on top of it. So I don't lose the horizontal space.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: I just move it up

Curt: Yes.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Keep covering shit. yeah

jamie peacock: Well, yeah, like now I'm going to have to.

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: I need to finish the office upstairs at the shop because I need an assembly area that isn't my desk.

Curt: Mm. Mm -hmm. Mm -hmm.

jamie peacock: So, yeah, we've got to we've got to... Kind of get that done when I get back. I'm gonna have to work But yeah, it's a bit of a bit of a challenge when you...

Curt: Fair. Fair.

jamie peacock: have high -end work that needs to go out the door and you don't really want to spend the time working on building an office that isn't necessary yet. So. Bit of a challenge, but we will we will figure it out.

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: yeah yes i'm being that person fidgeting on the podcast but yeah anyway uh what are you up to today kurt

Curt: ah Today, I... think I have to go to a birthday party for little people later and i was at like a party for little people the other day so i'm yeah doing lots of little people things

jamie peacock: Nice.

Curt: And then I'm going to. Keep perusing flights because this one says $337 Canadian round trip to Chicago O 'Hare. soon.

jamie peacock: Nice.

Curt: That's interesting.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Um,

jamie peacock: Also... Like if you fly to Chicago or here, you catch the blue line into town and you jump on the three and you're at. um You're at McCormick.

Curt: Yeah. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Like it's super, super convenient.

Curt: ah Yeah.

jamie peacock: And also you will just. meet someone at the train station waiting for you.

Curt: With a little sign.

jamie peacock: Knock.

Curt: A bouquet of flowers.

jamie peacock: yeah Yes.

Curt: ah ah

jamie peacock: Little sign. Um, Yeah, pen slut.

Curt: Ben's left.

jamie peacock: Yeah. um Yeah, dude, if you're going to fly, and just don let me know when and we'll... we will intercept you

Curt: I'm going to kind of see if I can like, because this one lands at 9 a .m. and i'll I'll peruse a bit and see what's what.

jamie peacock: Dude, if you land at 9 a .m.

Curt: No guarantees, but we'll see. what

jamie peacock: with no checked baggage. you will be at IMTS by like quarter past 10 in the morning.

Curt: Yeah, I would literally land with ah my passport and my wallet.

jamie peacock: Yeah.

Curt: Like I come with nothing. I would just.

jamie peacock: Yeah, 100%.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Um,

Curt: Maybe a camera. Yeah.

jamie peacock: Yeah, like you fly in light and you'll... Be there by 10 in the morning. um it took us to get to to get to ridley field

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: from the airport took us just over an hour last night and we had to wait 10 minutes for a bus.

Curt: Oh, okay. Okay.

jamie peacock: No. so it's not like getting around chicago is super super easy

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: um <unk>ja Anyway, ah yeah I think we are going to go.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Into Chicago today. Go look at the bean. Um, get our bearings figure everything out and then i think we might do the riverside walk uh walking path

Curt: Oh, cute.

jamie peacock: because I didn't get to do it last time.

Curt: Yeah, yeah.

jamie peacock: I just walk up the river and then just catch a bus home. Um, And just go explore Chicago a little bit and fucking ruin my feet right before IMTS.

Curt: Yeah.

Curt: Great idea. Yeah, great idea.

jamie peacock: Exactly what I did last time.

Curt: Get a bunch of blisters.

jamie peacock: That dude last time, Muff.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Danica and I both fucked our feet up something silly.

Curt: yes

jamie peacock: The Sunday before IMTS.

Curt: ah Yeah.

jamie peacock: So... i'm gonna be a little bit not of talk. been a little bit less of a knob But I'm also trying to liaise with when people are coming in. Um... So that I can be out to let them into the Airbnb or like...

jamie peacock: meet up with them appropriately.

Curt: Just grab like ah one of those like little electric scooters and go up there So you don't have to walk so far. as make

jamie peacock: Yeah, the problem is the crazy lady. I don't need her cutting off a bark and dying.

Curt: Yeah fair. Yeah that makes it harder.

jamie peacock: As it is, like, she wanted to carry stuff around. Just please stay the fuck in the apartment. I will carry stuff up and down the death stairs. because we're on the in a condo so we've got to grab some like fucking stairs and the last thing i wanted to trying to carry a bag up there and then falling over

Curt: Yeah, that'd be a bummer.

jamie peacock: I don't need that shit in my life.

Curt: Yeah, fair, fair, fair.

jamie peacock: So yeah. we if Danica falls over she'll be fine she's still robust but her mom's fucking frail um

Curt: yeah

jamie peacock: but yeah dude fuck it so we're gonna go fuck around there um But yeah, where can people, oh yes, before we, where people can find us. um This episode that you've just listened to is going to be out early.

jamie peacock: which you've probably experienced already. But we're going to have mini episodes coming out this week, and then they will all be compiled into a big episode. That'll come out next weekend. Episode 90. Um,

jamie peacock: So yeah, the content this week is going to be a little weird. Enjoy. I might actually just shoot another intro that says that. um or get down to clip this one of the two but yeah where can people find you and your things good

Curt: Find meanwhile i think me and my things at confoundedmachine .com. And I will have hopefully information going out this coming week. ah You're listening to it right now. So this week. um about the presale. Everyone's been messaging me. I'm shooting for the end of September.

Curt: And then we'll see how. that plan pans out and then i'll take it from there um Yeah.

jamie peacock: Nice.

Curt: How about you, Master Jamie? Where can people find you and your things?

jamie peacock: um

Curt: but

jamie peacock: Yeah, jspickeng .com has links to everything, got links to nautical workholding, which can also be found at tapsandpatients .com for now. um And links to the Instagram, jspec underscore engineering, where you can follow the day -to -day happenings and the IMTS happenings if I actually bother to film anything.

jamie peacock: um But yeah, that's where we you can find the stuff. And theloanmachinist .com if you want to find info on the podcast and the Jamieism Guide, which may be very useful to people this week.

Curt: ah

jamie peacock: Like very useful because I'm gonna be talking to them in person um But yeah, that's where you can find all of our stuff.

Curt: Yeah.

jamie peacock: Thank you everybody for listening. and uh We'll see some of you. In a day or two. Because this is literally going to get processed and published now.

Curt: vrooooom

Curt: o Okay.

jamie peacock: Yes. we're gonna like when we hang up i'm gonna hit process and then danica will post it this afternoon

Curt: What?

Curt: Okay, well, I'll stop talking.

jamie peacock: Yeah. Sweet. See you soon everyone.

Curt: Okay. Take care.
