Introduction to Special Episode with LondonRose92

00:00:05
Speaker
Welcome to Chatsunami.
00:00:17
Speaker
Hello everybody and welcome to another special episode of Chatsunami. I'm Sadtsunami and today I am very lucky to have another streamer come on to talk to me today.

Pre-Stream Jitters and Unexpected Issues

00:00:29
Speaker
Trust me, it is always a pleasure. Today I have a very awesome variety streamer. You might have seen her around under the name LondonRose92 and yeah, I am just glad that she has agreed to come on. So London, welcome on. Oh hi Chatsunami, what's up?
00:00:46
Speaker
I'm okay. How are you doing tonight? I'm doing great tonight. How are you doing? Not too bad. Getting stuff sorted, you know. Always a panic before you start recording, you think. Okay, I've got all my ducks in a row. Yep, let's start the stream. And then, yeah, it never quite works out the way you think.
00:01:02
Speaker
Yeah, sometimes there's a curveball. I totally understand. I'm very happy to be here tonight, though. Thank you so much. Oh, no problem at all. I've been meaning to start these interviews up. Well, I say interviews. It's more a casual chat, really. And I say that to everyone because I don't want them to think I'm shining a light on them, saying, where were you on the 22nd of April? Oh, yeah, absolutely. It's like, where were you? Oh, you were here. Oh, OK. Sure enough. It's totally fine. I'm cool. You can ask me whatever.

Gaming Choices and Community Influence

00:01:33
Speaker
So as I was saying before, you're of course a variety Twitch streamer. I hope that's correct and saying. Oh yeah, it is. I do play a lot of Monster Hunter World, a little bit of Pokemon. Just, you know, I'm trying to get into more games. We'll see how it goes.
00:01:50
Speaker
Because as soon as I said that, I said Variety Streamer, I was like, you've been playing a lot of Monster Hunter. Have you changed lanes? Or I just wanted to make sure. Oh no, I mostly play a lot of Monster Hunter World, but I am trying to branch out in other games too.
00:02:08
Speaker
It's just mostly whatever my community suggests sometimes they'll make suggestions and I'll pick up a new game. But mostly I am dedicated solely to Monster Hunter World, but I have branched out from Xbox to PlayStation. I did play, I first, when I first started Monster Hunter World 2018, I started playing it. I didn't stream it then, but I was just playing it and then I decided to stream it.
00:02:29
Speaker
And I thought well, you know, I've been playing a lot on Xbox. I should just transition over to PlayStation So I have started that now I started new character on there and a lot of people have you know It's been a really positive response and they really seem to like it So now that I'm on two different platforms It seems like it's going really well and I'm enjoying it as long as they're enjoying themselves. I'm happy
00:02:51
Speaker
No, totally. Because I have noticed going into your streams, your community... Well, first of all, let me just say, your community is absolutely fantastic.

Building a Family-like Community

00:03:03
Speaker
It's such a welcoming community. And I've said this to streamers in the past, but it almost feels as if, and I'm wondering if you agree, but it almost feels as if communities are almost like a reflection of the streamer themselves.
00:03:15
Speaker
I think that's true. And I feel like they're kind of like, instead of like friends, you know, I feel like my community, they're more so like family because as you stream and you get to know these people every day, you get to become a part of their lives and they become a part of your life as well. It's just, it's amazing. I've met so many people like all over the world. Every day I meet new people and it's just, it's been a very awesome, amazing ride. And I'm anxious to see what's going to happen for the future, but it's been great.
00:03:45
Speaker
I mean, it's amazing how... Well, I say amazing. Usually 9 times out of 10. It's amazing how unpredictable Twitch is at times. Because, for example, recently I've not really been streaming myself as much as I used to. I mean, don't get me wrong, probably by the time this episode comes out, I'll probably be like, super streamer again. I'll be like, well, that dated to the episode. Yeah, I hope so. We need you to come back. Oh, God, I wish.
00:04:14
Speaker
Oh, it's finding the time, honestly. Oh, I know. I know what you mean. Yeah, it does get kind of hectic sometimes. But I mean, it's things like, especially the types of games you play, because this is probably a good segue to talk about how you and I actually met on the platform, because we're actually discussing this before I hit the record button, but...

Meeting Through Genshin Impact

00:04:36
Speaker
I remember ages ago, I was playing a lot of Genshin Impact, and I have to admit, recently I haven't been playing this much, but back then I was playing a lot. I was really enjoying it. I mean, it is a beautiful game. It's a really beautiful game. It's really nice. For a game that's free to play, I was like, oh my god. Well, it's free to play with a black hole of gacha gimmicks. I know, I know.
00:04:59
Speaker
one day I'll get the character I'm looking for. But no, jokes aside, you'll get it. For legal reasons, I am joking. During one of my ancient streams, it must have been 2020, I think. Yeah. Oh my gosh, has it been that long? 2020 or 2021, I see that as if there's more years because I've been streaming for two years. It always feels like it's longer, yeah.
00:05:28
Speaker
But I remember streaming it like one time and of course, you had found my stream. I don't know how, I don't know if it was through. Oh yeah. It was just like a random thing. I saw you on Twitch and I figured, Hey, you know, this, this looks like a cool streamer. I'm going to check it out. And then when I heard you talk, I was just like, Oh my gosh, you know, his voice, it was a voice. It drew me in and I was like, Oh my gosh. Okay. I can just listen to you talk for hours. So I'll say, okay, this works good. And he's good at the game. So I was like, sweet.
00:06:00
Speaker
It was something worth talking about as well just before we came on, but it's that idea of, see when you start streaming a new game and then you get new viewers because of that? Oh yeah, absolutely. When they come into your chat, you have no idea how it's going to go. It can either be totally positive, like you and I, it can be totally positive. Or opposite, yeah.
00:06:23
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. And of course, fortunately for me, you were absolutely, you were just so wholesome, so nice. And again, I'm not just saying that. I really appreciate that. You're so sweet. Thank you. Honestly, it was the truth. I was just like, oh, it's really nice when you get someone like that in your stream because the amount of people that you get
00:06:44
Speaker
you know, they'll come in advertising themselves, they'll come in. Is that something you've had quite a lot in your streams? Oh my goodness. Yeah, I have. I've had some of that recently, actually. But yeah, I mean, you can only do so much. You try just to stay positive and try to move past it. Because yeah, I mean, there are some people that do try to do a little self-promoting. But you know, right away, I always try to tell them because it's in our rules that we don't allow that.
00:07:13
Speaker
It's just, you know, a common courtesy mostly. I think it's just a common courtesy thing because you wouldn't do that to other streamers. So I expect, you know, them to have respect and try to disrespect that. Those kind of interactions just make me wish I had a face scam just so I could like point my finger up and go, no. I'm watching you. It's like, no, we don't do that here. Stop. Get some help. No.
00:07:40
Speaker
And you're like, oh my god. It is baffling. It is honestly baffling how much people think they can get away with. And you're like... Oh my god, it's unbelievable.
00:07:54
Speaker
Absolutely. It's insane.

Origin of the Twitch Name 'LondonRose92'

00:07:58
Speaker
But moving on to a cheerio subject. I was going to say, if it's alright with you, of course. Of course, your name is London Rose92 on Twitch. So I'm really curious. What's the story?
00:08:14
Speaker
Yeah, but what is the story behind that? Because it's an awesome name, don't get me wrong. Yeah, well actually it was like a collaboration between me and my husband. I've always liked the city of London. I've always wanted to go there. And actually like two years ago, we actually finally got to go visit for like a week. It was a really nice trip we got to go on. So I told him, I was like, I like London and I like roses. And then my husband saw, he said, well, why don't we just put that together?
00:08:41
Speaker
Like let's make it London Rose. I was like, oh my gosh, it's perfect. It's like the best. I was like, let's do that. And then we just added the 92. Yeah. So, you know, it's just a, it's a good collaboration. I feel like together we got to make it together.
00:08:56
Speaker
And it's not like a name you've always used like in terms of gaming or is it just like a Twitch exclusive? It was just a Twitch exclusive thing like we just came up with. I mean, I've been streaming now for a year, but prior to that was actually an interesting story. Me and my husband, we actually streamed like three years ago when we first started actually streaming. We used to co-stream together and we would stream after work. We'd go and stream and just for like a little bit, like an hour here or there, like
00:09:24
Speaker
a couple days a week and then it just kind of got a little too hectic because work started picking up and I wasn't able to stream as much so then you know we kind of fizzled out a little bit how that happens where you get so busy with work and less streaming and then it just became we were like okay we had to like quit it so then after that I didn't stream for a while
00:09:44
Speaker
And then I came to the time where my husband was like, well, why don't you stream again, but this time just do it on your own since you know, you'll have some time. And I was like, well, you know, that is a good idea. So we went from there and I just now I'm just streaming on my own. And it's been a great adventure so far.

Creating a Warm Welcome for Viewers

00:10:01
Speaker
It's just it's been a lot of fun. Yeah. I mean, to be fair, you are doing a great job. Oh, thank you. Thank you so much.
00:10:07
Speaker
I'm trying. I'm trying to, you know, maybe eventually, maybe the dream, you know, we want to make it, maybe make it to partner one day. That would be amazing. But I've got my fingers crossed, but we'll see. But how about curiosity, though? What made you choose Twitch? Like above, like, say, YouTube or? Well, I think it was because I was so familiar with Twitch being as we streamed before on Twitch. We used Twitch before. It was just comfortable. It was a comfortable thing.
00:10:35
Speaker
So we felt comfortable. Yeah. So you've never thought of defecting to the dark side? No. I know. I mean, we maybe like thought about YouTube, but I, I've just circled back to Twitch because it's just, I don't know. It just feels like home, you know? Oh, yeah.
00:10:51
Speaker
Yeah, so I've just I felt comfortable. I was like, I'm gonna stay with Twitch and see how it goes. And it's been phenomenal. So far, just the response and everybody has been so positive. And I couldn't be happier. I've tried, you know, this is what I strive for, just to have a really good community where people just feel like, you know, safe, comfortable, or they can relax and just a place where they can feel like they're welcome, you know, and that's what another thing like when I first started
00:11:16
Speaker
I would network with other streamers and go to their streams and watch the streams and hang out and get to know them. And that was my biggest pet peeve was when you go into someone's stream and you say hello and they don't acknowledge you. It was like the weirdest thing. I was like, okay. I'm like, yeah, the streamer will be streaming and they'll be talking to the audience, but.
00:11:34
Speaker
Then the people in the chat would never, they wouldn't say hi or welcome you. It would just felt cold. And I told my husband, I said, I don't want that. I want, when people come into my stream, I want them to be able to say hi and we acknowledge them. We always say, hello, how are you doing? And make them feel a part of the community, not feel like they're outcasts or something. It's just, it's weird. I had that feeling when I went into other people's streams and.
00:11:57
Speaker
I was like, I don't want, I never, I never want anyone to feel unwelcome. So that was our big thing. And now I've had like a positive response from that people, new people that do come in, they're very like happy. They're like, wow, you guys are so welcoming. This is the first time I've come into a stream and people have actually welcomed me and they say hi to me. I'm like, yeah, that's what I, you know, I strive for that. So it's working. So you've not had any bad experiences then? Oh, so far, no. Yeah, so far, no. It's been working. Yeah.
00:12:27
Speaker
because I totally get what you mean in terms of going into stream. Yeah. And just feeling like, just feeling unwelcome. Yeah. Because I remember years ago, and not to name any names, you know. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely. Yeah. We're not going to name names yet.
00:12:43
Speaker
Yeah, not to name names and tell the kids to get off my lawn. I always remember years ago, I'll say years ago, it was probably two years ago, there was a streamer that used to frequent my Discord server and I think
00:13:01
Speaker
It was like, I can't remember, I reached some milestone, so I tweeted about it and I thought, oh. You're proud, you know? Yeah. So this guy started talking to me and he was like, oh, yay, congrats. And I basically, I reached my hand out to him and kind of said, you know, do you want to join the server with a very welcoming bunch and everything? Oh, that's really nice. I know that sounds like I kind of took my own horn from my community. No, not at all, though. You're just being friendly and nice. Yeah.
00:13:30
Speaker
Oh, I am honestly so proud of my community, how welcoming they are, how friendly. Oh yeah, they definitely are. And same with yours as well, but whenever I see a streamer with such a welcoming community, I think those are the kind of streamers I gravitate towards.
00:13:46
Speaker
Exactly, me too. It just feels like a nice group of friends online that you can come in and say, how's your day going? Oh, great, and everything. So I was saying to this person, oh, why don't you come in? So

Stream Etiquette and Self-Promotion Challenges

00:13:57
Speaker
the first red flag when he came in was he started spamming his link in just random places. So initially I was trying to be very diplomatic about it and say,
00:14:08
Speaker
that we've got like a channel for that. But he was just posting that, yeah, he was just posting that everywhere. And then I decided to check one of his streams out. Yeah, I decided to check out one of his streams and not gonna lie, he was not a people person.
00:14:24
Speaker
He didn't interact with the chat, he was just laughing to himself. And I get if it's like a challenge run or something, if it's like a speed runner or something like that. Yeah, that's understandable because they're focused on getting a good run. Or it's like someone who on the outside says they're like a no mic streamer.
00:14:44
Speaker
like obviously that's okay as well because they're saying to the outside they're not going to be actively chatting unless they type. So that's fine. But when you get someone who just completely ignores you, I totally know what you mean. It's quiet. But here's a question for you because this has happened to me, but I'm wondering if this has happened to you. Have you ever had an instance where you go to raid someone and they haven't acknowledged you?
00:15:09
Speaker
I have had that. And then you're like, okay. It's just it's it's you take a step back, like, I'm doing something nice as a courtesy, you know, you can at least acknowledge me and say hi, and my community too, you know, because I want to protect them and you want them to interact with the streamer. Yeah.
00:15:27
Speaker
I think that's really rude for someone to do that to you. I'm happy when people raid. I acknowledge them right away, say hi, I'll give them shout outs. I try to do nice things for them, just be appreciative. I think it's nice when people take the time to raid someone, they should acknowledge you, just call me courtesy. It'd be nice. Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry that that happened to you too. I have experienced it also, it's definitely happened.
00:15:56
Speaker
I will admit, the first time I ever got raided, I didn't know what a raid was. I genuinely thought I was getting trolled because I was streaming directly from the PlayStation. And I was looking at the chat and the right hand side of the screen. But it's like, you know, when you see the chat and it doesn't give you the emotes, it was just giving the names of the emotes. So it was like a mega wall.
00:16:25
Speaker
So like all these random people were coming. This was like when I think I had like two or three streamers and they were just like my real life friends and things. Yeah. So it was just unexpected. Then you get these random people saying megalo, megalo. And I was like, oh god, I'm being trolled. I'm being trolled. Get down. And they were trying to ignore them. And then they were like, oh, he's not talking to us. And I was like, oh, um.
00:16:49
Speaker
And I did not know how to react. I was like, how do I answer this? And then I was like, oh, it turns out I read just a good thing. Okay. So I've never done that since, like every single read I've been so thankful. But there was definitely one where I just went in and
00:17:08
Speaker
it's not so much... well, I mean, it is partly that they're not saying hello, but it's kind of that, as you say, common courtesy that people aren't... it almost feels as if it's like a waste of time that you've gone in and you're giving your time and exposing your audience to them. And you feel like they don't appreciate it, which, you know, it's not a good feeling. It's like you're trying to do something nice for someone and it's like, okay, it's like you get someone a gift and they don't open it.
00:17:34
Speaker
That's kind of how it feels. This one's going under the tree. That's right.

Overcoming First Stream Nerves

00:17:40
Speaker
This one's going back to the store. What are you talking about? I'm not bitter. No. It's okay. You're a monk's face. It's okay.
00:17:57
Speaker
What was your first impression when you started streaming on Twitch? Was it quite up? Oh my gosh. Well, when I first started solo, I was terrified. I was so scared. It was a little nerve wracking because I didn't know what to expect. It was new to me. I felt like it was all new doing a solo, a streamer run. I was very awkward. I was thinking, oh my God, is anyone going to watch this? I actually had three to five people come in.
00:18:26
Speaker
forget the name of the game that I was playing. I was playing something on Switch. I thought, no one's going to come watch this. But I was surprised. People actually came. And after that, it just it got a little bit better, you know, every day. And I thought, man, I need to play something a little more popular to see if people, you know, more people we can get more people in. And my husband said, well, why don't you stream Monster Hunter World? Because it's your favorite game because I've been playing it for a lot.
00:18:52
Speaker
lot of hours and I said you know what that's a great idea let me just stream it and see how it goes and oh my gosh it just it blew up it was like wow I think after that first day I was just like it was amazing we had so many new people coming in and my thing is I love that game because people viewers can interact with you and play with you too like while you're streaming while I'm streaming I can play with them also which is nice and a lot of people like that and
00:19:17
Speaker
It's just very interactive. I just I love how much interaction there is with the game and with the viewers and it's that's what really made it like a really positive response. And every day now people get excited. They're like, Oh, I can play with you. I can join your session. I'm like, Yeah, absolutely.
00:19:33
Speaker
I always encourage, you know, viewers to play with me because that's my favorite part. I like to interact with my viewers and just be silly. And it's just it's so fun. That's I think that's why we have the most fun is we can just interact. And it's just like, you know, it feels like I'm as if if I wasn't streaming, it would be the same as playing with friends like online, like if you're playing on Xbox or PlayStation, because we do that sometimes too on the weekends, I'll just play with people, my friends and
00:19:58
Speaker
It's just like playing with friends, you know? So it made me really enjoy it. It makes it more enjoyable to do that while streaming.

Community Interaction's Role in Streaming

00:20:06
Speaker
And would you say that's quite important to have that kind of community connection? Oh yeah, absolutely. If you can give that, you're golden.
00:20:18
Speaker
Yeah, definitely. If you can get your viewers to be family, it makes it more worthwhile. That's how I feel. Yeah, definitely. They're my family. They're more than my friends. They're my friends and my family. And not to put you on the spot here, but do you have a name for your community? Oh, yeah. We would call it the Rose Garden. They're the Rose Garden. Yeah, it's the Rose Garden. I know. We came up with that.
00:20:46
Speaker
You know, that's a lot more wholesome than the one I came up with. Oh, gosh. What was weird? So to preface this, I am an heir. Yes. Oh, there's nothing wrong with that. Me too. Me too, Chestnut. I mean, me too.

Playful Nicknames in the Community

00:20:59
Speaker
Have you ever heard of the Mandalorian before? Oh, yes, dude. I love Star Wars. I love it. Yeah. Instead of the Mandalorian, I call them the Pandalorians. Oh, I love that. Because my iPhone is a red panda.
00:21:12
Speaker
I love that. That is awesome. Oh my gosh. That's golden. That's what I call them, man. Because yep, I love Star Wars. That's perfect. I love dad jokes. Even though I'm not a dad, I love dad jokes. I love dad jokes too. Oh my goodness.
00:21:29
Speaker
I have a lot of people in my community that love dad jokes. They'll just come in some days and just post different dad jokes. I'm like, yeah, bring them on. Let's bring them out. It lightens the day. Oh, that's so cool. I love that, Pandalorians. That's amazing.
00:21:45
Speaker
Now, I'm not saying Disney is going to sue, but if they're going to sue, then I'm open to a sponsorship, by the way. Just bring it in. Oh, man. I think you'll be OK. Yeah. Somehow I don't think a Scottish streamer as a red bander is going to lip on the radar. Then again, it's Disney. You never know. Yeah, you never know. They might get you. I don't know. I'll hide you, Chatsunori. I'll hide you. It's going to be like a 3am raid by the police. Oh, no.
00:22:14
Speaker
knocked down the door. I was like, oh no, just got that door. I'll hold the back door open so you can get out.
00:22:24
Speaker
If you see a red panda running in the streets, that's probably me. Going back to Twitch, because you've spent a lot of time on the platform, of course. As you said, you've done duo streaming, you've done community streaming and things. Again, I just want to hammer in the point, you're doing absolutely fantastic work.
00:22:45
Speaker
on it. Oh, thank you. But if you've met many challenges along the way, would you say, or because I wouldn't say like it's, you know, easygoing as a Twitch streamer because there is like a lot of...

Maintaining a Positive Chat Environment

00:22:56
Speaker
Oh no. Yeah, we do have some challenges. I mean...
00:23:00
Speaker
We try to just like, I know we try to focus on the positive, but yeah, there's occasional like, you know, a little bad apples here and there, but you just try to like push past that and try to just keep going moving forward. You know, I try not to dwell on things because yeah, I mean, I have had some instances where we have some people get rowdy and chat.
00:23:21
Speaker
Thankfully, I haven't had to ban anybody because I know some, some streamers have to ban people that get a little unruly because it does happen. Cause you know, they get excited. They're in your chat and the stream and they want to just have the tension on them. And it's like, okay, you know, you can have fun, but to a point you gotta be respectful to the streamer and the community. But yeah, I mean, we've, we've had some people get timed out that I think at most they'll get timed out for unruly behavior, misbehaving, but thankfully
00:23:48
Speaker
I can say I haven't had to ban anybody yet, thank goodness. And that's not a challenge though. I hope nobody tries to. Well, they haven't banned anyone. Maybe I'll be that one. No, no, no, no. That's not a challenge. No, not at all. I just, you know, I'd like to have people just nice and chill and just keep it chill where we don't have to worry about that. Yeah. I was going to say like any percent speedrun, getting banned from London Rosewater 92. Oh no.
00:24:16
Speaker
No, we don't want to make a speed run out of that, no. For legal reasons, this is a joke, okay? Don't do that. Yeah, this is a joke. Don't do that. No, kids, don't do that at home, no. I have to admit, I do play that game. I don't know if you play that game as well, where it's like you're trying to guess if someone's been unruly in chat. It's like, are they a child? Are they a troll? Or are they both? It's like spin the wheel of, what's it going to be today? And you're like, oh my gosh, yeah.
00:24:46
Speaker
Because I mean, I've had someone, I don't know if you've had this before, I had someone come into my Fall Guys stream and they were like, they posted a video, like a YouTube video, and they were like, what the hell is this? And they were like, you review my new video on your channel. And it was like, well, first of all, I was streaming directly from a console, so now I'm gonna have to fuck.
00:25:07
Speaker
Second of all, I was kind of like, who does that? Just the way they were sneaking in everything, it did feel as if they were more of a child. You can't really prevent that because kids are always going to get older. Yeah, you never know. They sneak in. My stream is supposed to be 18 and up.
00:25:26
Speaker
I know I've had some young and younger people come in just to watch. Then I have to think, oh man, that's why I try to keep my stream PG-13. And I say that like, I try. But sometimes all the time, you know, we are like talking about adult topics. And I know it's a child when they say, oh, you guys are talking about that. Uh oh.
00:25:47
Speaker
And you're like, oh great, I have to like dial it back a little bit. So yeah, I will adjust if it, you know, I try to keep it like mild, as they say. And plus I do have a lot of, there's a lot of parents that watch too, I've noticed. Cause you know, sometimes they like to monitor what the kids are watching. So I try, I try to keep things clean, but you know, sometimes we get a little unruly, but we're just having fun. But it is, yeah, it's definitely Mark. It is Mark from mature for 18 and up. And you just never know. I mean, you don't know who's watching you. It's, it's, it's like a surprise sometimes.
00:26:18
Speaker
It gives me good or bad. It's like Christmas or Woofer again. Yeah, exactly. It's like Christmas. It's like, hmm, let me shake this box. Let me shake this one.
00:26:28
Speaker
it is that uncertainty though isn't it? It's like you're going into this and it is one of the things that I don't know if you've seen it like you know in the news or like even online where you see people who have this very kind of pre-determined like image, I suppose is the right word, image of a twitch streamer, you know they're just there. Oh how they should be. Yeah it's like
00:26:50
Speaker
or not even how they should be, but like all Twitch streamers are just like, you know, people who are lazy, they sit in front of a PC, they get paid like thousands of pounds. First of all, no, that's not true. But if you want it, if you want me to be lazy in front of my PC, please do. I know. I saw some people like they were streaming like sleeping. I'm like, come on now.
00:27:15
Speaker
It is ridiculous. Yeah, we're definitely not just like one little mold. Everyone's different. All streamers are different. They do different things, have different content. Yeah, we're not lazy. They better not call us lazy.
00:27:31
Speaker
I'm definitely not lazy. It's a lot of work. A lot of people don't realize that with streaming. They're like, oh, I can just do this. And sometimes you have to have some preparation, you know, you have to have a plan and execute it and networking, like a huge part of it. A lot of people don't know that.
00:27:46
Speaker
the networking part is huge. Like when you first get started, it's always a good idea to like watch other streamers and try to get like a feel for how you're going to stream and you just adapt it to, um, you get like your own little formula together and put it together. And I think it's, it's really good to network with other people and meet new people, introduce yourself and try to, you know, see what they like. They, most of the time you guys all like the same things because we're all gamers, but it just, it makes it easier, you know, just to talk and figure out what
00:28:14
Speaker
people like and then go from there I think yeah you gotta do the work you know that's what a lot of people don't understand do the work and it'll pay off in the end I think another like kind of big misconception and I wonder if you've seen this as well in the community but another big misconception is like the kind of and I always bring this up and I sound like a broken record but it's the kind of idea of like this grind
00:28:39
Speaker
mentality.

Streamer Stereotypes and Networking

00:28:40
Speaker
I don't know if you've seen this online, but it's like people with these kind of, don't get me wrong, sometimes they're well-meaning, but then other times you get people who are very aggressive maybe. Or assertive. Let's say that for legal reasons. Let's say assertive. It's people who they use toxic positivity almost like borderline, but it's like you have to be working 24-7. You've got to be up at
00:29:09
Speaker
5am, you've got to go to bed at 4am, you know? And it's like, that's the thing I find that a lot of streamers don't take into consideration. The fact that you have to kind of A, look out for yourself and B, realise that Twitch is more of a marathon than it is a race. What are your thoughts on that?

Balancing Health and Streaming

00:29:33
Speaker
24-hour streams and I'm thinking, man, you guys are gonna burn yourselves out. And a lot of people ask me all the time in my community, they're like, when are you gonna do a 12-hour stream, London? I'm like, for one, my health's not 100% great.
00:29:48
Speaker
So, you know, I do like, you know, I'll do three hours, I'll stream for three hours, sometimes like four or five hours max, if I do stretch it out. But I mean, they have to, you know, think, hey, you're sitting in a chair in one position, which I mean, I should probably like stretch a little bit as bad about.
00:30:05
Speaker
But when you get so involved in it, you know, you kind of lose track of time, but yeah, it's just, I don't know. I would never like willingly want to do that for me. I don't, I can't see myself trying to stream for 12 hours. I think I just, I would pass out. I couldn't do it in a lot of my communities like, come on, it'll be awesome. I'm like, it would be awesome, but I think the streamers should, they should take into account their health and wellbeing. You know, that's number one. You want to make sure you're healthy and not trying to push yourself to the limit. I think.
00:30:34
Speaker
That's just a little excessive, but that's just me. I mean, everybody does their own thing. If that's what they want to do, they can do it. But for me personally, I don't see myself doing a 12-hour stream. I've done a 12-hour stream once. Oh my gosh, you have? Once. Wow. Really? Really. It was because it was a one-year anniversary celebration. Oh, okay. Well, that's understandable. It's okay to push yourself. Yeah, that was like a one-off.
00:30:58
Speaker
But the way I did it, I really had to break it up into chunks. Yeah, take breaks. So I started at like, I think, 10am because I'm lazy. I'm not a Mormon person.
00:31:10
Speaker
I'm not either, I struggle sometimes too. So I started at 10am and then I worked all the way, or I say worked, I streamed all the way up until 10pm and I broke it into, I think it was four three-hour slots. So to begin with, I played Pokémon Green. That was like the very first game I played on stream. Oh, that's cool.
00:31:33
Speaker
Then for the next one, because I'm a huge Sonic fan, I played a bit of Sonic Mania. I had a friend come on and we reviewed Sonic OCs. You know, just silly things like that. And I had another streamer come on to play Fall Guys at the end of the very end. We ended it with, I think, a Phasmophobia.
00:31:52
Speaker
It was fantastic. It really went really fast but it's not something I would do again because the only like the second longest stream I've ever done is a six hour stream and that was playing Sonic 06 and that was another celebration stream and oh god. I mean it was a great stream and they've got like a compilation video out of it so you know hashtag everything's content.
00:32:18
Speaker
But at the same time, it's just like... It takes a toll on you though. Oh, you're right. It's so, so tiring. And it's something that I don't think people kind of take into consideration when it comes to being. Yeah, it's kind of like sometimes they feel like we're invincible. Because we're streamers, you know? They're like, oh, you can do it. You can take it. It's like, how do you know what I can endure? Come on. They're like, come on, London, you can do it. They want to push me. They're like, we're making you better. Come on.
00:32:46
Speaker
it's like that meme of the person poking the ground and it's like, come on, do something. It's like, please no more. Oh my gosh. Oh wow. I can't believe that's awesome though, that you're able to do it. But yeah, that would be a lot.
00:33:08
Speaker
I was gonna say, I was a younger man back then. I was one year younger. I'll stop, I'll stop your fight. I'm old, my bones are creaking, you know. I'm here with the kids to get away, you know. Get my long kids, yeah. Go on, get, you know. Oh man, that's what I mean. I definitely, I feel you. Oh gosh, I feel like I'm getting older every day.
00:33:37
Speaker
It's just it's weird especially like going back to what we're saying about younger viewers when they come in and I've had years like that before like saying oh I've had a rough day and it's like oh no what happened thinking you know is it your job is it you know college what is it your whole life or something yeah it's like oh has a bad day at school and you're like oh my god get in my chat you child it's like you have no idea oh my god oh it's like no sure sure be gone
00:34:07
Speaker
This isn't the stream for you. Go, go. Because see the amount of, like, younger streamers I've seen? And I say younger as in, like, kind of early 20s where they're, like, they're just so full of energy. And maybe this is me being a cynical old man here, you know, being like...
00:34:26
Speaker
like saying, you know, the flow of hope, the flow of, oh, I'm going to change the world with my strings. And it's like, that's nice. That's nice. You do. That used to be me one time. Used to be me too, one day. I'm looking at my posters on the wall, just like that used to be me. Yeah, that used to be me. Exactly.
00:34:48
Speaker
So, looking onto probably a more optimistic point, what would you say is the most important part of being a Twitch streamer?

Becoming a Role Model for Viewers

00:34:58
Speaker
You know, I think for me is being a role model. Honestly, I do have a lot of younger viewers, which my husband pointed out. He's like, you know, these kids do look up to you. You're a role model to them.
00:35:11
Speaker
And I never thought of myself as being a role model, but as I've progressed through streaming, it's a good feeling like knowing that people look up to you. And for them, I tried, that's why I try so hard to be a positive influence for them because I want to.
00:35:26
Speaker
be someone yeah someone that they can look up to and you know a lot of the times kids don't have people to talk to and i try to be that person where they can just come talk to us and you know if they're having a bad day we'll be there to listen and i think that's important because a lot of the time they feel like their parents or their friends don't listen to them or they have nobody to talk to so i i try to be at least try to be an outlet for them for that so it's a good feeling you know i i'm happy and it makes me happy when i
00:35:54
Speaker
I'm like, man, you know, this is really good. They actually listen to my advice. I'm like, wow.
00:36:01
Speaker
I'm doing something right I guess. As I said though you are doing like a great job of at least welcoming people and even the first time I can't even remember what stream it was but the first stream I came into where you know I saw your stream and you would immediately like saying oh hi there and everything and you know it did feel nice that I have to admit that I've been some instances where it's like I met someone and they're like oh and put by the stream
00:36:25
Speaker
And then when you actually do, it's different probably. Yeah, but like, thank you, satsume, thank you for the... And I'm like, yep, yep. Oh no, they forgot me. Yeah, but they forgot me already. And again, I just want to point out, I don't expect everybody to remember, because... Don't get me wrong, Sassy Dummy, I'm the worst at reading people's names. I mess up daily.
00:36:47
Speaker
I've had people like they'll snap at me like no London that that's not how you say my name I'm like well at least tell me I always tell them okay well tell tell me spell it out how am I supposed to pronounce your name like okay yeah this is it and it's totally different from what they have spelt it's like reading hieroglyphics sometimes you're like okay can I read this
00:37:08
Speaker
It reminds me of an American streamer I know called, I think his name's A-B, baby, like spell A-B-E-Y and then B-B-Y. Oh my gosh, I would totally mess that up. So the first time I saw this, so I was asking my chat, oh, I'd like to read someone, because I do love doing that at the end.
00:37:25
Speaker
Oh yeah, I try to do that too. Yeah, definitely. I remember asking my child, I was like, who do I read? And one of my mum said, oh, A-B-Baby, he's like a really cool guy. He knows a lot of the streamers that I know. So I was like, okay. And then I went to read the name and I was like, okay, we're going to read A-B-Baby. And he was like, no, not A-B, A-B. And I'm like, well, how am I supposed to know that?
00:37:54
Speaker
says the guy called Sasanami. I do feel bad though when I come into people's chats and they're like, oh, sasumi, sasumami, oh yeah, how you doing? And I'm like, on the one hand, I love my, you know, I love the name, but I'm just like, oh.
00:38:10
Speaker
I mean, London Rose, there's always so many ways to say that. But you'd be surprised when I do go another stream or stream. They get confused. They're like, should I call you Rose? Should I call you London? I don't know which one to call you. I'm like, well, either or works for me. And I tell them that all the time. I'm like, you can call me London or you can call me Rose. It doesn't matter. But yeah, it kind of stumps them at first. It's kind of funny. It's funny to see. I like to see their facial expression like, oh, what do I call you? I'm like, it's simple. Just either London or Rose works.
00:38:41
Speaker
Well, I mean, the first comes to the worst, you do the age-old tactic of, oh, welcome to the chart. You just mumble it under your breath and say it's a mic issue. That's my tip of the night. If you don't know how to say a name, just mumble it under your breath and say, oh, sorry, this is my microphone. Sorry. It's not how you get it right. I do that sometimes. I try to mumble like, oh, yeah. Are you trying to say it really fast? Yeah, that was it, right?
00:39:09
Speaker
Because I even have a couple of friends who, because, like, you know, they'll pop up and push the often on the stream. I'll read their name and I still have no idea how to say it. So I'll be like, hey, you! Have a good time! Have a good time! And I'm like, I have no idea. I'm not even American, but I plead the fifth. I just, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not going there. You did that really well, though. You did that really well. Thank you.
00:39:37
Speaker
But I'm just like, I'm just, I'm moving on. You can just, you can call, your name's Jim from now on, okay? Jim, that's it. I shall call you Peanut. I shall call him Squishy and he'll be my Squishy. Oh my gosh, I give people nicknames sometimes too. Oh my gosh, like if it's people that I've known for a while, like over a year, I give them nicknames.
00:40:06
Speaker
It's just easier to remember. So yeah, if anybody hears, like from now on, if anybody hears their name getting changed to Hey You. That's right. It's not because I'm doing like a Beatles trivia act or anything. It's just purely because I can not say your name. I mean that's even worse to see outside or streaming and things when
00:40:28
Speaker
You've got someone who you're working with and you don't know their name. Or if you think that you can say the name and it looks close to what you think it is, but then it's not. Oh my God, I get so embarrassed. When they put letters, they put numbers instead of letters. Oh my gosh, the letters instead of the numbers. Those always mess me up. They're like, it's supposed to be this. How do you get that from that? It's totally different. It's like, okay.
00:40:56
Speaker
It's weird because you get like a mix of responses. So for the most part, a lot of people are very... Usually they're pretty positive about it or they're still understanding. They'll be like, okay, you know, I get that a lot. Or, you know, I have, oh my gosh, just a few times I have gotten some people that get offended by it. They're like, that's not my name. And they'll say it in all caps so you know they're yelling at you.
00:41:21
Speaker
It's like, I'm sorry, I apologise. I'm like, I'm sorry. I'm sorry you have a weird name. I'm sorry. I was going to say, is that when you start singing back, going like, that's not my name. It's like, then who are you? You can tell who's either younger or just... Or if they're just being rude.
00:41:45
Speaker
Actually, you can tell by the tone. It's when they feel like they're being sassy with you. They're like, that's not my name. It's this. Or how could you mess up my name? Don't bring your sass into here, young man slash lady. It's like, get away. We are a positive vibe zone. No sass in here. No sass in here. It's not allowed. Only I can do that.
00:42:15
Speaker
kind of just as a closing point to that. I was going to make a joke about mispronouncing your name but I'm not going to go there.
00:42:25
Speaker
I was like, okay, so what did Rosé do next? What are your tips for aspiring streamers?
00:42:55
Speaker
It's easy to sit back. I know you're excited. Like if you get like 20 people in there and you're like, Oh my God, there's 20 people in here. You try, you got to try not to say that like new streamers, please don't do that. You know, guys, because it deters viewers sometimes because they're like, Oh, I'm just a number. It's like, no, you're not a number. You're a person. And I appreciate you coming to view my stream. So yeah, just don't say that because it'll kind of like makes them not want to be there.
00:43:21
Speaker
But I used to do that when I first started and I was like, okay, I just totally just ignore it now. So the best thing to do is just ignore that viewer count and just enjoy being there in your stream with your viewers and with your chat and just enjoy talking to them. Yeah, that's one of my big ones.
00:43:38
Speaker
So that's one of my big tips. Yeah, just ignore that viewer count and then you'll be fine. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Because I know that's a common thing people

Advice for New Streamers

00:43:46
Speaker
say. Yeah, it's just easy to look at it and like, oh my gosh, and you freak out. But yeah. No, it's an important thing as well. Yeah, definitely. I think the core thing about streaming is like, would you agree that you should be trying to prioritize you enjoying it as the streamer?
00:44:02
Speaker
Oh yeah, absolutely. Because if the streamer's not having fun, then the chat's not gonna have fun. So as long as the streamer's happy and you guys are happy, it just comes together.
00:44:12
Speaker
I think I said it better myself, to be honest. Aww, thank you. But yeah, London Air has been absolutely fantastic having you on Chatsunami. Aww, thank you. It's been wonderful to be here. Which way to do more of these? Absolutely, yeah.

00:45:01
Speaker
And in case you don't know, for everyone listening, the running joke is, yes, apparently I have deep pockets when it comes to getting compliments, so I do my best. I find a way. You definitely do a great job. Jokes aside, you are a fantastic streamer and a fantastic dresser, so thank you again for coming on. Thank you so much.
00:45:23
