Speaker: Welcome to Tony's Game Lounge, a bi-weekly podcast that covers everything in the world of video games, TCG, tabletop, and more. Here's your host, Tony 14. Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another brand new episode of the Tony's Game Lounge podcast. I'm your host, as always, Tony 14. And joining us this week is one of the newest members of the Game Lounge crew. You can see him compete as part of team custody battle in the Game Lounge crew Summer Olympics.
Speaker: is Reese. Hello. Hello. Reese, welcome. Welcome to the podcast. Welcome to the Game Lounge crew. How are you doing? How are you feeling?
Speaker: I'm feeling pretty good. Thank you so much for inviting me. I'm happy to be here. I'm excited to be part of the crew. I'm happy that I got invited. Hey, hell yeah. ah You have done some pretty spectacular things in the Olympics so far.
Speaker: ah Currently, at the time of recording this episode, your team is in third place of all things. woof podium How have you been feeling about the Olympics just so far?
Speaker: Honestly, if I'm keeping it a whole buck and a half with you, I'm a little disappointed in some of my performances, but that's just like the kind of person that I am. Like if I'm not taking the gold, I'm a little disappointed.
Speaker: um But my my coaches have been giving me encouraging words the whole time and kind of keeping the vibes high. And honestly, if I can squeeze, just get just squeeze in between ah six and brisky, just get that number two spot, I think I'd be pretty happy.
Speaker: ah Oh, yeah. Well, Reese, because you're brand new to the podcast, we do get to start with our loading screen where you get to give us your favorite video game, video game character and video game soundtrack.
Speaker: All righty. All three of these completely different video games, completely different genres. Actually, maybe not completely different genres in the first two. My favorite game of all time is The Last of Us.
Speaker: The first one, I played it for the first time when I was ah a teenager and I just fell in love with the story and played it basically on repeat for four years of my life on my PlayStation 3.
Speaker: Did you did you get the platinum trophy in that game? At least I did get the platinum trophy. So ah can take that home at least my favorite video game character.
Speaker: of all time is Aiden Pierce from Watch Dogs. The first one. Really? That's such like an interesting take. I love that game. Like, okay, like here's the thing. I played the first watch August. I thought it was all right.
Speaker: i don't know. Aiden Pierce just didn't give us like a lot to work with. I feel at times. See, I think that that was like kind of the beauty of Aiden Pierce. Cause like you went through the entire game, like kind of learning what happened.
Speaker: to Aiden, like, kind of why he is the way that he is, and kind of how he would, this this, like, guy with these skills, like, because he was a hitman before, like, kind of got driven to the edge by guilt, and kind of the story of how, kind of, when you are...
Speaker: it's It's not like ah a happy ending, but it's like kind of a story of revenge. like And I feel like he kind of exemplifies that as a character really well.
Speaker: um Kind of like very curt. He is very manipulative the entire game. like he's very He's not a good character ah by any stretch. But ah he is my I think he is um the character that I... um like the most like i just from an emotional level okay kind of losing his like like kind of what happened to him i don't want to do any any big spoilers for any for a game that came out like 15 years ago yeah the game the game is old like the game is very old it's like watchdogs back in high school i remember that i played a lot of that game too and then my favorite
Speaker: OST, and this one is not a hot take. I think a lot of people agree with this one, is Hollow Knight. I think it is video game fame, Christopher Larkin, ah just a banger all the way through. Yeah, though that's ah it's ah it's a good pick. It's got some great tracks in there.
Speaker: Absolutely. like I don't think there is a bad track on that soundtrack, and I've listened to them all a 300 hours in the game, and I listen to the soundtrack regularly. Okay, now here's a another, what what did you play Hollow Knight on when you did play it?
Speaker: On Steam. Did you get all the achievements? Yeah, I have i have platinumed it, I have done Pantheon 5. The only thing, and when I say the only thing that I haven't done in Hollow Knight, the only thing is I haven't radianted every boss in the Hall of Gods.
Speaker: That is the only thing that I haven't done. I don't know what that means. yeah that make let Yeah, that makes sense. But I've done 99.9% of the game.
Speaker: Wow. All the achievements. Like, I have like i really like Hollow Knight. Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. That's very impressive. Thank you. Thank you. okay Now, what is your hottest video game take?
Speaker: My hottest video game take, I was actually mulling this one over, kind of thinking it and kind of thinking what a good take would be for the pod here. And I found the perfect one, one that like really strikes home. Like me and my friends, one that kind of we mourn to this very day.
Speaker: um In our Discord servers. And my hot take is that High Guard was a good video game that was done dirty by the press around it.
Speaker: I think that the game failed completely besides the actual game. Yeah, I think it was rough. And I think like timing, it was terrible because Concord just came out and it was a box price game that was terrible. And then High Guard came out right after and Jeff Keighley freaking screwed it by giving it the spot of honor.
Speaker: At the Game Awards. Yeah, at the Game Awards. And then everybody was like, oh, look at this Concord slop. Like, how much money did they give Jeff Keighley to give this spot? And they didn't even give him any money.
Speaker: yeah No, i it was definitely a very unfortunate series of events that just led to that game ah getting announced the way it did. Like, I think if it was just, if it was any other slot,
Speaker: it would have been fine and probably exactly it would be around today with like some sort of player base. I also think that them trying to shadow drop it like they did Apex Legends because it was the old Apex or some of the old Apex Legends developers that moved to High Guard. So they tried to do the same strategy they did with Apex Legends where they just shadow dropped it and then everybody was like, oh my God, what's this new game on the market and loved it.
Speaker: But with High Guard, it just got, like, I think it just got, like, shot in the head. Like, it was, like, Fallout New Vegas. Like, ah the game was rigged from the start. Benny shoots you in the head.
Speaker: you fall into ah you fall You fall into the grave. Like, that you you, in this case, is High Guard. Literally, Fallout New Vegas. so like but I feel like you're trying to reference, like, Fallout 76 for a second. It's just, like, game. No, you're you're talking literally.
Speaker: how Yeah, no, like, what happens at the start? like as unfortunately for you, kid, the game was rigged from the start. Yeah, yeah, and you know what? It's a great take, actually. I kind of, I kind of believe that, too, because even Wiggles has said that, like, the game, he he enjoyed playing through the game. Yeah, me, me and Myst, um, and Six played that game a lot as trios when that game came out, and then, uh,
Speaker: And then it died. Well, fives came out and fives were cool too. I just think that if it, it the industry didn't give it enough time to to simmer. Yeah. Well, that well is an unfortunate thing that did happen to high guard. Uh,
Speaker: You know what? Hopefully, ah hopefully the the last game announced that this year's Game Awards doesn't get that happen to them. Yeah, right. Imagine it's just the curse spot now. Everybody like it's like Jeff Keighley's hit list. but Honestly, like, yeah here's the thing you gotta remember. He's like, Jeff Keighley is like a very, like pretty respected guy in the gaming industry when it comes to like gaming media. He is like, I would say the face of gaming media nowadays with the the stuff that he puts on being Summer Game Fest, Gamescom, Opening Night Live, and the Game Awards. And isn't that like entirely him? Like he is all of that? Yeah, essentially. Like he is the guy that leads it all. Like he has a team.
Speaker: But like it's like, it's like a production team to get the put on these productions. like Yeah, but it's his money. I'm pretty sure it's just his money. Or like he made the... yeah that's like the game of It's like the Game Awards is like the main thing. And that's like the... I guess the company in a sense.
Speaker: So Jeff Kelly could...
Speaker: Yeah, Jeff Keighley could just have like a hit list, like an actual video game hit list. Like he has an inside take of all the games that are coming out and he could just like pick and be like, I don't like that one. i don't like that one. i don't like that one. And then he puts them all in the last spot and just like glazes them so hard.
Speaker: i feel like that everybody's like, it's Concord Slop. I feel like the only thing on Jeff's hit list is Jeff McHale. ah And if you know, you only be one do you do you understand ah Joel McHale, not Jeff McHale, Joel McHale. No, i died I don't get the reference.
Speaker: Way back in the day, back when it was the Spike Game Awards, you know who hosted that? Who? Jeff Geely and Joel McHale. As in, like like, I'm thinking, wait. Communities, McHale. Wait, he I love him. He's so cool. Yeah. ah So, and I only learned this from my Destiny Insider Jackson, like, maybe, like, a couple years ago.
Speaker: ah for or Sorry, former Destiny Insider Jackson. Rest in peace, Destiny 2.
Speaker: Joel McHale and Jeff Ely hosted the Spike in Game Awards where Joel McHale was like the main host, you know, kind of like basically like cracking jokes the whole time and not really giving a shit where Jeff like you look at the stuff and Jeff like is looking at Joel sometimes like he's just so fucking done.
Speaker: Yeah, jeff Jeff definitely, I think Jeff takes takes the industry pretty seriously. Yeah, and you know what? like That's what I like about ah but Mr. Keeley is is his passion to video games.
Speaker: Yes, I agree. Like, he is very passionate about video games just as his father was very passionate about film. And, you know, jeff Jeff Keeley's father then went on to make IMAX, which is like, it's still very crazy. Like, that's like...
Speaker: in a sense how jeff ah Jeff got his start is slight slight nepotism Hey, I mean, all the best.
Speaker: Exactly. all again true All the best people are nepotism. All the best people out have slight nepotism. Yes. None of them see it a slight is the very ah heavy operating word. The best people have slight nepotism. yeah You see, so it won't be ah me that gets famous. It'll be my son, Tony the second.
Speaker: Exactly. when He takes over this podcast that will actually get famous and whatnot. Yeah, then then frickin to the moon. Yeah, exactly. That's that's how you got to do it. So invest early. everybody everybody Everybody listening now listening to the to the to the pod, invest early. Invest early.
Speaker: ah With that, I think it's time for us to dive into our headline of the week. ah And there was another gaming showcase. The THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2026.
Speaker: And honestly, it was ah i mean, like if you're into like certain games, this one would have been kind of cool, but like this one to me was very bad this time around. Are you not a pinball enjoyer, Tony? i i Believe it or not. I'm not that I'm not like a pinball enjoyer. It's just, I don't play pinball that often.
Speaker: That's fair. ah Starting off with the pre-show, the stuff that was announced during the countdown to the main show. ah Let's Sing. Remember Let's Sing? Apparently that's still going on. Let's Sing 2027 and Let's Sing ABBA both release on November 3rd.
Speaker: ah And now whether or not these games come with like a USB mic for your console or... However, you got to set it up. It's going to be an app. It's going to be app that connects to your phone. I'm almost positive. Yeah, I most likely will. That releases November 3rd. Then for all the pinball folks, Pinball FX announced like four fucking things.
Speaker: Just regular Pinball FX, Pinball FX VR and Pinball FX Midnight, which is a bunch of horror movie themed pinball movies. pinball the games pinball i was gonna say pinball stadiums but that's not uh stadiums stadiums isn't a terrible cabinet is the proper word pinball cabinets uh all those are out and playable now like mostly everything so you can check those out if you're a pinball nerd and then uh there's a couple games coming to mobile devices epic mickey rebrushed rats quest the way back home season two and gothic classic
Speaker: They didn't give a race date on when those will come to mobile, but they're coming to mobile. As for the actual games announced and like announcements for during the main show, starting off with Wreckfest 2 is in early access.
Speaker: ah So if you want to get wrecked with your friends, you can do that now. Way of the Hunter 2 releases on September 29th. The Guild Europa 1410 got a new trailer because I think we've seen this game before very briefly, but we got a bit more details on it now. ah This is I want to say this is like looks like a Wiggles game.
Speaker: So I'll have to talk to him about that. Call to Arms Panzer Elite is getting a new content drop if you like tank games. Expeditions Samurai is now in early access.
Speaker: Titan Quest 2 has got the Spirit Mastery update out and available now adding a whole new class. And honestly, I really zoned out during this part of the show because I just did not care. um They teased, the developers of Road 96 teased potentially a brand new Road 96
Speaker: um But they legit just like showed like a brief, small, like not even like a long enough cutscene, but like it was just a cutscene. No title drop, no nothing. Just like, we're working on something. And like, oh, okay.
Speaker: We got another trailer for The Eternal Life of Goldman. very beautiful art style Metroidvania type game that, or don't even know it's Metroidvania, just like a platformer that there be that's being worked on. We got another trailer for that.
Speaker: ah We got, we're getting some Switch 2 games ah from THQ Nordic. Epic Mickey Rebrushed, Sacred 2 Remaster, Spongebob Titans of the Tide is coming to Switch 2 and Destroy All Humans 2 is coming. And I think it also said that Destroy All Humans 1 is getting a Switch 2 version as well.
Speaker: uh then we got a bunch of news if you're a fan of gothic oh boy there's a lot of stuff coming to gothic uh new features into gothic remake a photo mode marvin mode what the fuck is a marvin mode i don't actually know maybe you just play as a guy named marvin i don't i don't they didn't really explain just a dude just dude named marvin uh alt progression and mod kits so you can start modding the game much more easier. And then the Gothic Original Trilogy is coming to consoles. Gothic Classic is out now. Gothic 2 will release on September 29th, and Gothic 3 on November 24th. Also, Gothic, a Shadow's Quest, a tabletop a board game, is starting crowdfunding on September 30th.
Speaker: And then lastly, if you're a fan of horror and little nightmares, re animal announced their first DLC, the prisoner. And it's out now. It is out and available now. So somebody go tell Mr. macri Mac Ryan Mac, cause I'm sure he'll be very happy with that.
Speaker: Cause I know that boy likes horror. Re-Animal is so cool. It's such a cool game. I haven't played it because I do not do horror well. I didn't do horror well when I was a kid, but the older I get, that adrenaline rush that you get after you get a good scare, man, live it. don't.
Speaker: i don't ah But that was the THQ showcase. I'm a little disappointed. There wasn't anything SpongeBob related, like new SpongeBob related. Reese, what do you what's your big takeaway from the THQ Nordic showcase?
Speaker: I love Epic Mickey. Epic Mickey Rebrushed is big pog from me. Very exciting. I looked a little bit into the Gothic remake. I've never heard of Gothic before in my entire life, but it looked interesting and I might look into it more after the pot for sure.
Speaker: um But the thing that I am the most excited about definitely is the Re-Animal DLC because Re-Animal is just so cool. All right. Well, that's our headline of the week. Nothing super crazy, but there's a lot more that happened. Let's dive into everything else that happened with the week in review. Recapping the major stories of video games and the world of tabletop, looking over recent releases and reports from the Game Lounge crew, it's the week in review.
Speaker: And starting off, some of the games that came out in these last two weeks, you had Beasts of Reincarnation, the new game from Game Freak that wasn't Pokemon. Big Walk, Marvel Token Fighting Souls, Hell Let Loose Vietnam, Dusk Fade, and Agent 64, Spies Never Die.
Speaker: ah quite a couple bangers that came out these past two weeks. Big Walk being probably the biggest one of all of them. ah Big Walk, Big Game, Big Talk. um big Big Talk around this game. Holy moly.
Speaker: Yeah, it exploded. Friend Slop game exploded. No, and this is what I'm glad that like people are starting to be like, no, this isn't Friend Slop, man. This is actually like refined detail. There is no Slop to this.
Speaker: unless you and your friends are sloppy about it, then in which case, yeah, it is friend slop because you're the slop. Yeah, naturally I am always i do bring the slop to get it twisted. Marvel token, though. oh that game is so cool. It's cool. It's apparent there there were issues with the PC version, ah but they did put out a patch that should be running a bit smoother now.
Speaker: um But there were there were some performance issues with the PC version of the game. Who do you who you mean? I if I was to play it para I don't even know i would have to i would I would actually have to look into that because like I you know despite hosting a tournament with like very little experience I do dabble in the fighting games a little bit I'm a Hulk man a Hulk man I don't know who I would name I don't know maybe Spidey but I don't actually know That's fair.
Speaker: I genuinely just don't know who I would main. Dusk Fate also came out and I've actually started playing Dusk Fate. That game looks so cute. It's very it's ah it's very like homage to the PS2 era of games. Is it like Spyro? I looked at I watched a game for a gameplay trailer and they look kind of Spyro. More like take some inspiration from Jak and Daxter.
Speaker: Oh, Ratchet and Clank ask, but also like Kingdom Hearts for like combat and like Mario for platforming. Okay, interesting. That's like the like the big inspirations for the game.
Speaker: um I'm only like an hour in so far, so I'm not like super, super far in, but so far it's been pretty it's been pretty fun so far. it Yeah, it looks really cute. It looks like one of those games that like really has like that kind of spark to like that creative. yeah like It looks like the people that worked on it, at least on the art, like really gave it their all. Yes.
Speaker: Yes, there're yeah it's it's been good. No, it's I've been enjoying it so far. Can't wait to play more. I just got a lot of other things to do before I could really just know life this. Too many games. Too much stuff. Too much stuff. And it involves editing both audio and video.
Speaker: Oh, geez. And then Agent 64 also released, and this is just legit an homage to Goldeneye. Yeah, kind of kind of nostalgia bait, maybe. Yeah, a yeah they're very nostalgia bait-y game. ah But, hey.
Speaker: Does it hurt? Yeah, if you're a GoldenEye enjoyer, I looked at the reviews. All the reviews say that it is like GoldenEye, but not as good. were What all the reviews said. ah It was like, like it was like lot it was like, it has the the same kind of, it has the same DNA, but GoldenEye just did it better, was kind of the general sentiment.
Speaker: Damn. Damn. So maybe just play Goldeneye. Maybe just play gold good just launch up... ah Yeah, just just put dust dust off your N64 that you surely have. or youre grab your Or, you know, burn... burn gotta Put put a ROM of your cartridge not two You cannot pirates. well no no not talk I'm about doing this the the the long way where you got to make it your own.
Speaker: Oh, make your own ROM. Oh, true, true. That that is what we talk about here. OK, OK, OK, OK. Totally not to say go get go find yourself. No, yeah, we wouldn't.
Speaker: We would not ever. Rob on the internet to download. That's totally safe. And on like a very secure site that you can then download and play on an N64 emulator. No, we want you to do the hard work here and yeah do it yourself.
Speaker: Go out and purchase a cartridge of golden eye. And then I don't even know the process of burning that, uh, like a cartridge onto a p dude is imagine how much a cartridge of golden eye costs. like $600 or something for a car. I would imagine for a like cartridge of, yeah, the Google it. I want talk, what's a, what's a night cartridge guy going for How much is it going for now? Uh, price starting. Here we go.
Speaker: Alright, Goldeneye. Loose is going for $30. Complete is going for $90. That's ah actually so much cheaper than I was thinking it was going to be. i was just i was just expecting this to be fucking ridiculous. If you still want it like sealed, it's going for like $230. That's fair. And if you want it graded... It costs over like 1500 bucks. Have you looked at Pokemon like the old DS Pokemon prices like a soul silver? Like if you want to get a ah like Pokemon soul silver cartridge for a Nintendo DS Lite, it puts you down like 400 bucks.
Speaker: Yeah, you see, I kind of regret selling my Pokemon games when I did, because if I didn't sell them until like now, I would have wait made so much more money off. Dude, I didn't even sell them. I just lost my copy of SoulSilver. 12. I lost it. no.
Speaker: Yeah, no, i've I've sold all my, like, I don't have, like, any physical games aside from my GameCube collection. That's it now. That's fair. Beast of Reincarnation, though, kind of walked past it. I do want to kind of come back a little bit and just say um it looks cool.
Speaker: ah It is definitely like it is cute girl and dog. It is like they went into ah they looked at all of the metrics of every good selling game in the past 10 years and was like, what is a common denominator here? Cute girl and cute animal. Thumbs up emoji.
Speaker: Yeah, that that is basically what they did. And you just can't look at the sky. Oh, does it explode? It makes you explode. Yeah. Apparently. Apparently. Like as in as in like the like it like your game crashes? No, no. You you just die. You literally die.
Speaker: oh in game. It's like it's like a lore thing. Yeah. Yeah. That's actually sick. That's actually so cool. Yeah. I don't know the reason why. I just need a clip. I think it was like of the the Geekenders podcast that Jesse Cox has.
Speaker: Okay. And that's where it was mentioned, I think. Okay. Okay. have to look into that. yeah Unfortunately, it's a AAA game at AAA prices. Yes, that that it is. And it's also Game Freak, so I don't actually know how much this one will go on sale for. yeah hey Moving on to video game news, everything else that happened these past two weeks, starting off, Dennis Disco's second summer update dropped, adding brand new outfits, a new remix of Maniac, new challenges, beach-themed arenas, and the intense difficulty to the four bosses of the game.
Speaker: Let's go! Quite a fun update, I will say, but the next one will be the big one that we're all looking forward to. as the next update gets to add a whole new boss to the game.
Speaker: I am so hype. I'm so excited. It's going to be new boss, new talent or new freaking ability. Yeah. Yeah. Oh my gosh. And you think that's going be good. Please good. Please be as broken as singularity was. No, no, not as broken. I want, I want build diversity in my leaderboards. That's what I want. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: No, true no, true, honestly. And with more abilities, you're going to get more build diversity. And that's what I'm excited for, because with only five abilities, like you can, there's only one that's sitting out. To be fair, it's now four abilities with how they nerfed singularity. It's now only four abilities. Yeah, that's fair. And it's honestly only ever four abilities because you're never unequipping Flurry Rush.
Speaker: Yeah, pretty much. Like, it's basically needed. Like, i at all times. Oh my god, I love Dead as Disco. That game's so good. I have over 100 hours in that game now, and it is Only thing...
Speaker: The skate remix of maniac is six minutes long and to unlock one of the cosmetics, you have to play it ten times, and so which is a little annoying. It's only three and a half minutes long. three It's not. It's longer than that. It has to be. It is not six minutes.
Speaker: and I swear it's is' longer than that. It is like the challenge. that's yeah mean doing the challenge you gotta play it quick yeah you gotta play it 10 times but like it's only half an hour if like doing math i don't i don't think it's a three minute and i might be it is a three minute song i thought it was like five minute song no i'm gonna i'm gonna launch a game after and i'll i'll take your word for it i'll take your word for it With more update news, Peek's final content update released, adding the final set of biomes that rotate with Caldera and Kin is the Gloom and the Citadel. They also added a bunch of new items, such as the Glider, the Jetpack, new chest variants, which is just open. It can open up and gas you.
Speaker: ah There's a new set of items to collect to bring to the end of your run to unlock a new hidden biome. uh climb which will get you an alternate ending to the game um and a whole lot more oh and also frogs are the devil fuck them frogs holy shit i've never wanted to kill a frog more than i have when playing peak I love frogs.
Speaker: Frogs are dead to me. Why would you be so mean to frogs, man? ah Because the frog fucking ruined my run last night. That's why. hey man, I got so bad with the frog. God damn.
Speaker: It's not like skill issue. Maybe like it's not the frog's fault. I blame the frog. In GTA 6 news, and it can't get worse than this, or can it?
Speaker: GTA 6 announced it's releasing a new trailer video thing. Something. And guess what? It launches later this month on August 27th on Netflix.
Speaker: What? And then six hours later, it'll be up on YouTube. What? I'm just going to say this. GTA a six is doing a horrible job marketing their game. They're like actively trying to not mark. Like they're anti-marketing their game. Like every, like they could have done nothing. They could have been like GTA six is coming out. And then the whole internet would have done the PR for them. Yes. And that's, that's basically like what we thought that we're going to do. And then it's like, ever since like the CEO of take two interactive started opening his mouth,
Speaker: I just like hated ah one. i think the CEO of take two interactive has, it has been doing an awful fucking job with the things that he's been fucking saying online. I'm like, Jesus Christ.
Speaker: I do not like this dude. Get has take two always been like, ah has like rocks are always been known by take two. Cause like, i don't even remember that this being the case with like, uh, GTA five.
Speaker: Yeah, GTA 5 was pretty like, I don't think there was a, I don't remember any friction with GTA 5, like when a release schedule at the very least. Oh shit, yeah, no, it was always there.
Speaker: it was always there, 98. Huh. hu you Just a new CEO maybe? Probably. When did the CEO get there? Oh, oh, Take-Two Interactive was renamed Rockstar North. That's why they were Rockstar North and then they went back to Take-Two.
Speaker: Oh, I see, I see. that That makes so much more sense. yeah to Yeah, yeah. Okay. Yeah, I don't know. I don't agree. Like, a lot of the shit that he's been saying. And, like, you're basically forcing people to go to a subscription-based service, and if they don't have it, and they really want to see this thing, they either have to pay Buddy to go watch this thing, or wait, you know, six hours when, realistically, all the media outlets are going to spoil it.
Speaker: Um... Just why have a nap. Have a six hour nap. Yeah, basic basically that's what you should do on August 27th. Yeah, honestly. Just like wait for it to come out on Netflix and then as soon as it comes out on Netflix, if you don't want to give Netflix your money, assuming you aren't already, you just have a six hour nap and then you wake up and you watch it on YouTube.
Speaker: Yeah. think that's what you gotta do. ah But yeah, if it's not, if this isn't like the gameplay-iest gameplay trailer of all time, I think we got i think we genuinely gotta boycott GTA 6.
Speaker: They've been doing a lot of strange stuff. been doing a lot of that to make it themselves because that like this game has pissed off like half the internet. Yeah, what are your thoughts on what are your thoughts on locking gameplay features behind behind the Definitive Edition?
Speaker: yeah Like, here's the thing. i like Because obviously, Definitive Editions that do this all the time. And you know, I i do buy the, like, if it's a game I'm really excited for, I will get the definitive edition of it because it's a game that I've wanted to play for like however long or it's like it sold me on getting that deluxe edition.
Speaker: GTA 6 has done nothing of the sort. To make me want to get its deluxe edition. And the fact that you're going to lock behind. Essentially like one of each type of store. Which is just going to have like just premium content in each one.
Speaker: Like it's not going to like affect any of the base game content. To our understanding of it. But it's still kind of scummy. That's like you're umlock you're locking stores that are on the map. And not just like stuff that's like, oh, yeah, you can you'll just get access to this stuff in the regular stores.
Speaker: Like if it was that, that would be fine. Because I think that's what we're used to with like games that follow like this format with like open world game is like, oh, yeah, you can get like a deluxe car or deluxe tattoos or shit like that. It's just like, yeah, you'll have access to them in the and like a special menu when you go to the tattoo parlor.
Speaker: I mean, that's what GTA 5 did with all the DLC cars and stuff that they added. Yeah, that's what GTA 5 did. The fact that you're making like an individual fucking store for each one is and walking then locking that is kind of scummy.
Speaker: Yeah, it's in shitification. Like, they're they act like they they're taking features that were in a previous game and taking them out because they're like, we can fucking ring you for the extra $20. Yeah.
Speaker: um So, I think that I am personally in the, I'm not getting GTA 6 unless these trailers next couple of trailers knock my socks off. And it's like, oh, okay, they actually are going to deliver. I'm still not going to get the deluxe edition of this game because I'm Canadian and that's like fucking over $150. Yeah, it's stupid.
Speaker: um but but like it's very much like rockstar needs to like they need to win back a lot of people's faith because right now they're kind of just killing it yeah there there's like yeah here's the thing unfortunately the normal consumer doesn't care yeah and that's the thing like you always gotta to think of this like there are so many more people that are not as chronically online as the people that you see on twitter are These are you like, and that's, these people that, they're chronically online, we're the minority.
Speaker: We are, so as much as we like to think, oh yeah, there's so many people talking about this. Yeah, no, there are so many more people that just don't care, that just want to play Grand Theft Auto 6. Yeah. yeah And honestly, bro, i don't even blame them because it does look sick.
Speaker: GTA 6 so far, like it's going to be good. We all know the game is going to be good. And that's like here's the worst part. Here's the thing. Yeah, like if GTA 6 somehow isn't good. i think here's the thing. We have like two big outcomes. If GTA 6 is good, it's bad for the consumer.
Speaker: Because obviously prices are just going continue to go up for some AAA quality that may or may not be there. If this game doesn't do good, it's bad for the AAA companies because the fact that if GTA 6 flops, I think we're it's going to be bad for the game developer because one, people are going to lose jobs and that's always shitty when game developers lose jobs.
Speaker: And two, the AAA industry is going to panic. Because if GTA six doesn't do well, every other major gaming, uh, triple a gaming publisher is going to freak out except Nintendo because Nintendo could care less.
Speaker: Yeah. Nintendo doesn't. Yeah. Nintendo moves at their own speed. Like you never have to worry about Nintendo with like half like the gaming shit that's going on because they're just so busy in their own to bubble that they don't care. Yeah. Literally. They are just their own little corner of the gaming space.
Speaker: But everybody else, like, the release of GTA 6 is going to determine the fate for a a lot of things. Yeah, I think that's fair. I hope to an extent, like, I think that AAA devs just need to look at indie games and just like use their brains for two seconds. And I think they'll be able to figure it out But like, you see, I don't think they'll be do that until they become an indie dev themselves. Yeah, honestly, maybe, maybe GTA 6 has to fail. And it's like a canon event. And then all of the big wigs become indie devs. And we, and it's like a gaming renaissance.
Speaker: The only thing is if GCA six does fail, there's going be, there's going to be one specific person on the internet. That's going to fucking probably post himself. i don't know, dancing, helicoptering his a little dick around and all that shit. And that's the lead, like the, the lead director on mine's eye, whatever his fucking name is.
Speaker: Mine's eye, bro. Yeah. Because you know, he was ex rocks. He's ex rock star. That game is a video game. that develop Yeah, it is. It is piece of software.
Speaker: It is a piece of software. Whenever that game studio is in the news, I'm always just like, why? Why you here now? What the fuck did you do? Oh, a worker strike while you're bringing in media influencers. That's such a great thing. Okay.
Speaker: Yeah, i just yeah. GTA just can't do the same. Just don't do a Saints Row. Come on, Rockstar. Just don't do a Saints Row. Give us superpowers in GTA 6. I'm all for that. I love Saints Row 3 and 4. Dude, I'm fine with Saints Row 3 and 4. I'm talking about the remake. Oh, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. yeah like Like, I like Saints Row 4. Like, here's the thing. I didn't mind the remake.
Speaker: It's definitely not the same, but it's nowhere near the, like, the amazingness that the other four games were. Yeah, like Saints Row is just so iconic. And I feel like the remake doesn't have that. Like it just doesn't have that spark. I mean, we'll never see another Saints Row game again, unfortunately. Yeah, rest in peace, Saints Row. Rest in peace, Volition. Like that's why. Yeah.
Speaker: yeah in overwatch news uh the new hero demon has been added to the game and it's a new character from diva's uh part of the world and they're voiced by you would not guess this because of how deep their voice is lily pichu she did a great job i listened to that i listened to her voice i'm like that's lily pichu no fucking way Yeah, i heard it. And then I got really scared because I'm always a little bit nervous of um influencer voice actors in games. um just But then I actually heard the voice. And I think if you didn't know, you wouldn't be able to tell.
Speaker: Yeah, like you cannot tell. Like, if you do not know who Lily Peachy is, you're like, who? You would think like yeah it's just like another like these like voice actor. Then you listen to Lily's real voice. You're like, huh? That came out of that?
Speaker: And she demon is bad. She was unplayable on launch and had to And she got emergency buffed the next patch, like the next day, the day after she came out, there was an emergency patch and it buffed her.
Speaker: ah This is why I totally fuck Blizzard. Come on. ah ah In Quake news, Quake 2021 version received a brand new update, Dawn of the Machine. It adds new enemy types and new weapons along with a 19 level episode to play through.
Speaker: So that's cool. In Nintendo news, the Legend of zelva Zelda movie has cast their Ganondorf. And it is Uli Latukefu playing Ganondorf.
Speaker: And if you're wondering who they are ah they are ah very famous for playing Young Rock in that TV series. Yo, it's Young Rock. Yeah, it is Young the Rock Johnson playing Ganondorf. Back when he was the pebble.
Speaker: Back when he was the pebble. Dwayne the pebble Johnson. Dwayne the pebble Johnson. ah In EA news, EA is now officially owned by Saudi Arabia's public investment fund and private equity.
Speaker: The deal has now gone through. Everybody said, OK, let's. Yeah. And i yeah. What are your thoughts on on government entities owning companies? but ah You know what? If any of the companies were going to do this, it would be EA. Literally, like EA is the first is the first company to fall to like the cyberpunk fucking like a government company. Like, it's just awful. It's terrible.
Speaker: Yeah. ah Now, to be fair, I don't think this is going to change much on EA's side of things. They're still going to make shitty games or like you know the same game over and over again. and What if they actually start making good games now? If they start making good games, i will be very conflicted.
Speaker: will be very conflicted size that. Yeah, like easy to write off now, but like they make like Star Wars Battlefront 3 and then everybody's like, oh my God, this is the best game that they've ever made. It turns out the Saudi Arabia government is actually like, no, we bought that so they could do better. because Yeah, right. Just like you, we've also been sick of it. Yeah, we're pissed off too. We are on your team. who Yeah, we're going to make Battlefield 6 so much better. Trust us. Together we will game.
Speaker: that That would be crazy. If like if all of that happens, you know what? then it maybe Maybe they're kind of cooking. I don't know.
Speaker: I don't know. we'll have to see. well is This is very much a wait and see. if We'll see what happens. um For Marvel Rivals, the hood was added to that roster of characters.
Speaker: ah And then with more Nintendo news, the Fire Emblem Fortunes Weave Direct happened. ah And boy oh boy, ah we've got a lot of cool things coming with this game. First, unlike with three houses, we get the ability to switch between the four protag routes at any time ah because you have to play through all of them. So you don't have to make like three 100 hour save files.
Speaker: ah In between main arena matches, you're going to get x amount of time to do different things around the world map or around the town. The weapon triangle is kind of back, sort of, because I don't remember how prominent it was with Engage or a couple of the previous games.
Speaker: of recent years, but they're, what they're putting more emphasis back on the weapon triangle. Uh, classes are going to have three types of ranks and then they dropped a big thing. oh Oh yeah. And then there's gonna be a gun. There's a gun in the game.
Speaker: They're giving us guns and fire emblem. Now, uh, There's a big time skip in the game and it turned out they revealed, hey guys, the four characters that we've been showing you for the past while, they aren't the protagonist. This fifth dude is that was summoned by the goddess Sothis.
Speaker: And um yeah, that's who our main protag is. The nameless white haired protag. Dude, if Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave is even half as good as Fire Emblem Three Houses, I'm going to put a thousand hours into that video game.
Speaker: so we're never going to hear from you but again. god Yeah, GG.
Speaker: Also, Sedith is there as well for people who care. Sedith, he's also back apparently. buts but so So if you're a fan of Sedith from Three Houses.
Speaker: I just love Three Houses, man. That was my first Fire Emblem game. which is like maybe might get me shot in the streets. I'm not sure what the Internet take is, but I i mean, glasses for the switch era. Yeah, I mean, it's not like the worst, ah the worst fire emblem take.
Speaker: Like my first fire emblem was Shadows of Valencia. uh okay i love that one so much like it is like my favorite of all time dude i feel like if you ah go into a series the first game of the series is that you play is always your favorite like i don't think i've heard a single person i think most of the time that is true because my favorite fable is fable three yeah right so like mine too fable three was my first fable too nice sir
Speaker: Yeah, I got I got it was that that was my first family. My first Halo was reach. And that's why reach is my favorite. Mine was ODST. My favorite my favorite Uncharted game is three because it's the first one that I had.
Speaker: love Uncharted 3. I love Uncharted. need to play. I own the Uncharted games. Need to play them. Dude, you need to play Uncharted. That game sick. Nathan Drake is like top three video game protagonists of all time, I think. Wow.
Speaker: It's Aiden Pierce, Joel from, i can't remember his last name, but from The Last of Us, and then... fucking nathan drake naughty dog is crazy with characters i think naughty dog is so good at character writing uh in banishment news halloween the game has been banned in australia because of the presence of a controlled substance not because of the murder because of a drug dude we can't have the drugs on our streets murder that's acceptable but not the drugs Yes.
Speaker: 50 Cent is producing a payday project. We don't know if it's going to be TV or cinema, but 50 Cent is working on something with payday. This guy just freaking puts his money everywhere. He's like, let's make vitamin water. Let's make a payday thing. Like, I am so excited for this. I love payday. I also love 50 Cent. i think he's I think he's really funny. Have you played ah the 50 Cent video games?
Speaker: I haven't, actually. I haven't played the 50 Cent video games. I think you should. I think you got to. I yeah honestly I now that I know they exist I think they got I think I got it to God of War the TV series that's in the works is now possibly looking for at Dave Bautista at being the new Kratos after the other guy who was currently Kratos or who was acting as Kratos got injured is basically like out because of like how bad the injury was um they're also looking for actors to play an older Atreus and Thrud or Thrud how you pronounce it
Speaker: Elliot Page as Atreus. I don't actually know if that's if I should laugh at that joke or not. ah Eric Baptizat has been named the new game director for the Assassin's Creed franchise.
Speaker: Formerly, he was the lead game designer of the original Black Flag and the director of Valhalla. He is now the game director for the entire franchise. Hopefully forward he will channel more Black Flag, less Valhalla.
Speaker: Yeah, I liked I'm I'm not going to be completely transparent. I didn't play through all of Valhalla. um I didn't like it very much, but I did play through Black Flag. And that game is like my favorite Assassin's Creed game ever. hey Are you playing Resync at all? I am not going to play Resync because I don't like remasters.
Speaker: I will watch somebody play it and I will be like, that's cool. But like I played my Assassin's Creed Black Flag on my PlayStation 3 when I was 13 years old or whenever that game came out.
Speaker: Ghost of Yotei is getting a complete addition featuring a new narrative called Echoes of Sekigahara, which is split between the game's present day and flashbacks to Asu's time on the mainland. They're also having a new roguelike mode called Most Wanted and this version of the game will release October 1st.
Speaker: You had me at roguelike... ah In PlayStation Plus catalog news, a bunch of games are coming to the PlayStation Plus catalog, but Helldivers 2 is now available on it right now.
Speaker: And a bunch more games will be dropping on the 18th if you're in Canada. or Otherwise, we'll just wait a couple of weeks because they're doing like weekly batches for the US and whatnot. so But in Canada, we get all of them on the 18th.
Speaker: Yippee! One of the games is ah not Uma Musume Pretty Derby, but the other Uma Musume game. Oh, dang. I look. Well, guess I'm dusting off the PlayStation.
Speaker: so you can I'm going to it's like a nine hour platinum. So I'm like, oh, hell yeah, I'm totally to play that. Yeah. If I get to look at cute anime girls that are actually horses. Like, I mean, I'm all in but Who is your favorite Uma Musume, Reese?
Speaker: ah You know, I'm not going to lie. i don't have a lot of Uma Musume experience, but it's the it's the one. It's the cowboy one. The cowgirl one.
Speaker: oh ah yet ah yeah. Yeah. Taiki shuttle is my hutle is my favorite Uma Musume. I love Taiki shuttle. OK, good to know.
Speaker: uh are you playing pretty derby at all actually now that we're talking about this real quick have you played derby i haven't played any pretty derby i watched a streamer that i like play pretty derby and it was probably the funniest live stream i've ever watched in my life but i haven't actually put any time into it myself because i'm terrible at gotcha games and i will spend a all of my money on it yeah You're just like me. You're just yeah like me. And I unfortunately don't have money to spend on Uma Musume. I mean, here's the thing. That's a good thing that I mean, you can play Uma Musume and maybe not like because here's the thing. TC is like full free to play for that game.
Speaker: And he's and he has like decent units, too. So I honestly you could try to go the free to play route for that game. Yeah, i could if you could restrain yourself enough. Yeah, right. That's the thing. It's like, do I believe in my do I believe in my self-restraint?
Speaker: No is the answer. I mean, the other thing to do is you could go watch the anime. It's got like, god it's got a couple seasons. True. You got pretty derby. You got Cinderella gray. There's another one. I think I'd have to ask Zach again. He's the, he's the uma expert in the game launch crew. Oh, okay. He's the one who taught me about gold chips, like $12 billion dollars yen scandal.
Speaker: And, Phantom Blade Zero news. Phantom Blade Zero received an 11-minute pre-order trailer showcasing the opening cutscenes, cinematics, action sequences, and boss battles, and we're getting a deep-dive state of play later this month on the 17th.
Speaker: ah with more game details. I'm definitely going to check that out because this is definitely a game that I'm keeping an eye on that I don't know if I want to get it or not yet. This game, based on the 11 minutes of gameplay or the 11 minute trailer that I watched with a little bit of gameplay in it, it looked really good in the hands. It looks really satisfying.
Speaker: It absolutely does. um Whether or not that actually trend that the the true the feeling transfers to the how it looks, um is we'll see. you But yeah it does look really, really fun.
Speaker: ah More with Sony. They announced the limited edition console bundle and accessories themed around Insomniac's Wolverine. And these will be released on the same day as the game on September fifteenth $800. Yes. Yes.
Speaker: I actually didn't even look at the price. That was just That's probably what it is. that's yeah bad like I didn't flinch at that price I'm like, yeah, that sounds about right. Yeah, $749. PS5 Pro is $1,000. Yeah, it's not worth the PS5. The PS5 Pro is so not worth it in Canada. It's just so not worth it. I'm so glad I got my PS5 when they came out because like it was hard to get them and everybody and everybody was like scalping them really hard. But if you could get them like from an actual store, like you got them for $600. I got lucky...
Speaker: I was just in my local mall, like around Christmas, like just after Christmas and my game stopped, the game stopped. I was, that was in the mall had some PS five digitals. i that oh And I got it. Yeah.
Speaker: yeah I live in a smaller center. So like just my local Walmart, I just walked in one day and they had the disc, like the, the disc version. And it was just there. And I was like, okay, nice. Nice. that nice Gamescom opening night live is happening August the 25th and we do know that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will have a very prominent feature at the show.
Speaker: ah This also will wrap up the summer season as we do know the summer the gaming summer season starts with Summer Game Fest and it ends with Gamescom opening night live. ah So we'll be seeing some big things hopefully from Gamescom.
Speaker: And lastly, Crimson Desert is getting DLC sometime later this year. Moving on to ongoing game news in the Fortnite Epic Games side of things. Sonic or something Sonic related is coming to Fortnite on August 20th. I hope it's Sonic Underground.
Speaker: you know, you know. And if you pre-order Control Resonance on the Epic Games store, you get you you can get yourself a Dylan Faden skin in Fortnite.
Speaker: Oh, shit. Also in MMORPG news, ah Final Fantasy XIV, the Moonfire Fair Festival is back. The reward is a mount that's a giant inflatable Moogle couch or beach beach chair or water beach chair. It's a giant inflatable Moogle chair.
Speaker: Nice. The one that you would like sit on the pool with? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so that's what the mount is that you can get. And as for the event itself, they brought back the ship with the slides and the tower. It's not as cool as the obstacle course or the Eorzean Ninja Warrior course that we used to get. i much prefer that one.
Speaker: um It's much more fun ah event with that on side of things. You can't go wrong with a little bit of Ninja Warrior-ing. You can't. You can't go wrong when you're playing an MMORPG and have to parkour.
Speaker: Exactly. You have to platform in your MMORPG. Yeah, that something that's very easy and intuitive, I'm sure. Yeah, exactly. In the world of TCG, starting off with Pokemon, the anniversary set, 30th anniversary set, drops on September 16th, and Mega Evolution Delta Reigns releases November eighth In Yu-Gi-Oh! The Legendary Arc 5 Dex Collector Set and Limited Pack World Championship 2026 are both out now. Magnificent Monsters releases September 4th and Beyond the Brave on October 9th.
Speaker: And Magic the Gathering the Hobbit is out now. You can now get yourself some Hobbit packs. Reality Fracture drops October 2nd and Star Trek on November 20th. Did they make one ring again in The Hobbit?
Speaker: I don't know if they did or not. They might have. I'd have to look it up. I i don't know if they did. if they did... ring. in The two ring. If they did do it again, then ah people are going to be scrambling for that because that's going to make you a millionaire.
Speaker: Yeah, right? just Just sell it to Post Malone again. In Lorkana, Hyperia City releases October 23rd. And in the Digimon TCG, Timeless Bonds releases September 4th and Chivalrous 13 on October 2nd.
Speaker: And that is everything within the week in review. Any final thoughts on any of those, Rhys? No, I'm not ah big in the TCG scene. I was when I was younger, but the um it is a hard hobby to get into these days.
Speaker: Yeah, no, it definitely is. With that, it's now time for us to move on to the games coming out within the next two weeks. Here's what should be on your radar from August 17th 28th.
Speaker: From AAA titles, indie hits, hidden gems, and hot pieces of garbage, here are the games coming out that should be on your radar. And starting off, no releases on the 17th, but on the 18th, Entropy goes to early access on the PC. Reika comes out on the PC. Star Sand Island comes out in the core systems in Switch 2. And the Seeking City 2 comes out on core systems.
Speaker: No releases on the 19th, but on the 20th, DayZ comes to the Switch 2. Mexican Ninja comes out on everything but the Switch systems. Mortal Shell 2 comes out on core systems. And Slayblade and Theropods come out on PC.
Speaker: No releases on the 21st, but on the 24th, Combo Lands comes out on PC. Aliens Fire Demon Elite 2 comes out on Core Systems. Blood Dungeon comes out on Core Systems and Switch 1 and 2.
Speaker: And Box Knight comes out on PC. And Once Human comes out on PS5 and Series X. On the 26th, Brigandine Abyss comes out on Core Systems in the Switch 2. On the 27th, Kalinoro comes out on Core Systems in the Switch. Luz Lagoon comes out on Core Systems in both Switch systems. Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2 comes out on the Core Systems Switch 1 and 2.
Speaker: Resonance of Plague Tale Legacy comes out on Core Systems. And Star Wars Zero Company comes out on Core Systems. And on the 28th, Captain Tsubasa 2 World Fighters comes out of the core systems of the Switch. And Elden Ring Tarnished Edition comes out on the Switch 2.
Speaker: Those are all the games coming out. Any of them strike your fancy at all there, Reese? have played a little bit of Entropy in Early Access. Or in in and ah in a beta, I think. An open beta, maybe?
Speaker: um And it was pretty fun. I hope that it is fun still. Like, as long as they don't screw it up.
Speaker: ah For me, Slayblade on the 20th is a pretty cool release. It is a Beyblade roguelike. Wait, that's actually so huge. Wait, you had me at roguelike. Wait a minute. Yeah, Beyblade. Because everyone loves Beyblades.
Speaker: True, I mean... It's just a little bit of both. I like Robelight's more, but Beyblades are sick too. yeah Build your Beyblades, win matches, customize your Bey, win tournaments, and see how far you can get.
Speaker: ah It looks really cool. I played the demo for it. Very, very fun. I'm very excited to see what they do with the full release. What else? Oh, Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2.
Speaker: ah well Almost rounding out all the Metal Gear Solid games. The only ones not in the collection are obviously Metal Gear Solid 5 because it's already on everything. um Dude, I love Metal Gear Solid 5. And the only other game that I wish they included in there, but they didn't.
Speaker: No Metal Gear Rising. No. Well, that's not going to go solid. I know, but like you could have put it in there. Yeah, true. you could They could have put it in there because it's still in that universe. it's It would have been cool if they did.
Speaker: the yeah exactly. um Also, Resonance of Plague Tale Legacy, the new Plague Tale game that almost got canceled because, you know, the studio is no longer with Xbox. They're now back to independent.
Speaker: Mm-hmm. Isn't Plague Tale that really sad game? That's like really depressing and sad. i mean, yes, I believe it is. I i remember when that game came out and I did a lot of reading into it. Yeah, this is the game that I'm thinking of. And I learned what happens in the game and I decided that it was not for me.
Speaker: Fair. And then you got Star Wars Zero Company, the new tactics turn based Star Wars game. Very XCOM like, but Star Wars.
Speaker: We like Star Wars. So you got that as well. um Yeah, that's basically all the games coming out. um I think with that, it's now time for us to dive into our main focus this week. here is what we're talking about this week in the game lounge.
Speaker: Conversations of past and future games, the state of the gaming industry, how big decisions affect gamers and anything else that's important to us. Here's what's going down this week in the Game Lounge. Reece kind of said it earlier and I didn't want to say anything because we were going to talk about it right here.
Speaker: Video game remakes and the oversaturation of them on the market. I freaking hate video game remakes. so So why is that? That's the first question. Why do you hate remakes? I, okay, so I didn't hate them like five years ago. Five years ago, i feel like like when Resident Evil started, re like when Capcom started going insano style with all the Resident Evil remakes, I think was when it went crazy. And now just everybody is making remakes.
Speaker: And I don't want to pay $80 to $90 for a game that I've largely played before. Especially when you're rebuilding these games in new engines that are like it's completely you're completely rebuilding these games from the ground up. So it takes similar dev time and dev work because you're rebuilding the whole game. So why not just put that effort into making something like creatively new is like my opinion.
Speaker: OK. okay So does it like more matter for you with like the style of a like or remake? It is like a remake to a remaster to a reboot. Then I think remasters are better. Like if they add things ah rather than just like, I think,
Speaker: Better graphics are a given. If you're remaking the game, it has to have better graphics. And if it doesn't, you did it wrong. I think using better graphics as a selling point is silly because you should have better graphics.
Speaker: um the game but like ah I think it has to have new gameplay mechanics. like the resin evils are not reable The Final Fantasy 7 remake. yeah like it like but they're basically like like They're more like a reboot than anything. Yeah, that's a good that's a good reboot. because it's It's telling the same story, but it's a completely different game.
Speaker: Yeah. And I don't even think it's telling the same story. I haven't played it, but I think it's telling a similar story, but I'm pretty sure some. playing along the same lines. They're able to go into depth on a few more things, but there are, there's a lot of different things that just the original did not have.
Speaker: Yeah, I just am tired of people making the same thing over and over again and charging me more money for it. So as long as there's like new content involved in some way, shape or form, you're usually more OK with it. Yeah, like I won't complain about it on the Internet, but I'll um I'll I'll like I still probably won't buy it.
Speaker: um But like I won't like out loud go like, oh, wow, this sucks. So like if you if you were so it's more of like if you've played the game in its original form, you wouldn't go out of the way to play the remake.
Speaker: Yeah, like, if it went, like, 80% on sale and I could get it for, like, 10 bucks, then I would buy it, but I just don't... I feel like that's the case with, like, any game, though. It's like, oh, like, this game that I've really wanted that's, like, an $80 game is, like, on sale for, like, fucking under 20?
Speaker: Exactly. huge That's, like, common... game That's common gamer sense right there. Yeah, for sure. I just... I, like... But, like... They're gonna make a Resident Evil 5 remake eventually, and Resident Evil 5 is like my favorite, like probably top five favorite video games of all time.
Speaker: I love that game. I've put so much time into Resident Evil 5. You love Punching Boulder. I love... Oh, brother. Don't you... Seven minutes. That game has so much nostalgia. Like my teenage personality was built around that game. Like get it twisted. god. Like I was Albert Wesker in that one scene with my leather trench coat and my so sunglasses that I wore all of the time. Like I was awful when I was a teenager. But that design though, that character design in that game is fire to this day. Fire character design.
Speaker: Okay, I gotta know. How do you feel about Resident Evil 6 then, out of curiosity? I love Resident Evil 6. I'm a Resident Evil 6 enjoyer. This is another hot take of mine. i understand the gameplay is weak, so weak, and the story is whack, but Jake Mueller, Piers Nivens,
Speaker: And that's, I rest my case. Like, those two characters alone make Resident Evil 6 worth it, in my opinion. you see this i You see, I feel like this is unprecedented because we somehow talked about Resident Evil 6 last week as well on the podcast.
Speaker: Wait, that's huge. Yeah, so it's, like, very weird that like... what was the What was the take last week? Uh... God, like do I even remember what the take? It was Brisky's take. um it was like it wasn't like ah It wasn't like an awful take.
Speaker: I think it was very like very silly. Okay. Yeah, that that's fair. but That is definitely fair. and Yeah, and Jake is also Wesker's son. Yes, which is like part of the reason why I love him so much.
Speaker: God, that's so crazy. Slight nepotism, man. All the best characters have slight nepotism. act That's what we love. Oh my god.
Speaker: So yes yeah I guess that indicate if they do remake, if they were to remake 5, then what would you want to see out of a remake like that with how they've been doing their remakes? If they agree like how they make if they make a remake of I would be very like I would be happy that they made it. I would be sad because I'd be conflicted and I wouldn't want to buy it. I would hope that they would make new content, more mercenaries. I want mercenaries in Resident Evil five remastered and I want it to be better than it was in the original.
Speaker: Okay. Mercenary mode was the like the lifeblood of the replayability of that game. That was where I grinded so much of my time. When I was a kid, I would look at YouTube world record scores of levels of characters in Resident Evil 5.
Speaker: like there There was tech you could do where you could, instead of reloading your gun, you could, when you're in a melee animation, you could open up your inventory and then you could combine your ammo with your gun to skip the reload animation.
Speaker: So you would never have to reload and you just had 100% uptime. Like, I was such a Resident Evil 5 nerd. Oh my god. So, like, Mercenaries needs to be in the remaster. If it's not in the remaster, then they did it so dirty.
Speaker: Okay. Okay. Okay. Also, the outfits, obviously. um The costumes were so good in that game. like ah Like, new gameplay mechanics in the game, I think it is a good game to remake in the sense that it's a good co-op experience.
Speaker: um maybe lean into that a little bit. Oh shoot. I almost unplugged my PC. That would have been awful. That would have been criminal.
Speaker: But like the biggest thing that I would want in a Resident Evil 5 remake that would make me buy it is if they were like, if they really push that mercenaries mode. And, but that that's like, I think I'm in the minority for that for sure. Okay. What's your current take on the state of game remakes?
Speaker: I think overall they're lazy and bad. I think there are some outliers, but I think like the Resident Evil 3 remake wasn't great. The Resident Evil 2 remake was all right.
Speaker: The Resident Evil 4 remake was good. I'll give them that. I liked the 4. I didn't play it, but I liked it. I watched somebody play it and it looked good. Um... But ah like, I think for the most part, AAA devs just use them as a way to make easy money because people see a remake and then it triggers their nostalgia brain and then they buy it.
Speaker: And ah and it just makes me sad. Because like, here's the thing, I like enjoy like, ah when it comes to like certain games that like, maybe aren't as like easily accessible nowadays, and those games get a remake.
Speaker: Like, I like that because it's like, oh, hey, a game from the 90s getting her like, I think the um ah frickin Elder Scrolls remake.
Speaker: Oh yeah. Oblivion. Oblivion. Thank you. Came out of nowhere. Yeah. I think the Oblivion remake. I like that one. Cause Oblivion is what is a game that's old and obscure enough that like, and not obscure, like it was a big game, but like old and um like kind of it's controls are dated. You could yeah say. And the remake only really just gave us graphics. They kept like basically everything else the same. Oh wait, nevermind. That's lame. That's lame as shit then.
Speaker: Yeah, no, they did because they're the some of the bugs are still there. Wait, sorry, I thought that i thought they like remastered the... car i I got baited. I got baited by... I mean, they remastered a couple of things, but like there a lot of the bugs from the original Oblivion are in the remake. Yeah, like that's super... like I'm sure like the Oblivion heads, like I'm sure maybe some of them enjoyed that because it's like the original experience, but like that's lazy, right? Like keeping like carrying bugs over, like they copy-pasted code, no?
Speaker: Isn't that what that implies? that's I think that basically is what it implies. Yeah. Yeah. Which is like the, that, that is the word that is like on par of like, they basically walked into work one day and walked up to chat GPT and went, Hey, input this code into this engine. And then they walked away like copy code from X into Y. And then they walked away.
Speaker: You see, the only thing is Bethesda doesn't have a chat GPT. They have Todd GPT. Because everything at Bethesda has to revolve around Todd Howard or else it'll actually true explode.
Speaker: It just works. It'll just work. It just works. No, but like stuff like that is just bad. Like you, that's a bad look. um You want your remasters to come out and you want them to look fantastic. And play just as well. Yeah, exactly. You want the graphics to knock people's socks off. You want the environments to be um ah like true to the original, but novel enough that they're not boring.
Speaker: Which is hard. Like I think remaking a remake or like or a remake remaster is it's a difficult unless you just want a hard copy paste it. But that's just then you have people like me complaining on the Internet.
Speaker: It's a lose lose situation. Yeah. Yeah. what What's like the I guess the age gap of like something getting a remake like how how old should a game be before it gets a remake? I think if they remade the original Fallout, the interplay Fallout, I think that would be reasonable. That would be a reasonable remake.
Speaker: I think, like, you got 20 years. anything earlier than 20 years ago. And you're kind of, you're grasping at straws, I think. And I think 20 might even be a little generous. Okay. And now I have a serious question for you.
Speaker: How do you feel about the last of us episode one or part one? I, I'm very, very... i okay I haven't bought it. I'm not going to buy it.
Speaker: I'm going to continue to to vote with my wallet, as I always have, against these remakes. I am going to watch lots of content on it, though, because I love The Last of Us, and the story is great. And I want to watch all the cutscenes in the new cutscenes. It's going to be so good, man. It's just the story, and it's going to be so good. Like, I'm sure it's going to be great, but like, I'm just like, why not make a new game with this? With the time is just in my brain. OK, OK. I'm not a game dev, though. Surely it surely. It's not as easy. Like, surely this is just like guy pointing at screen like make game. Yeah. If the price of remakes or where should like the price of remakes and remasters be to make it more acceptable to you?
Speaker: Like 40, 50 bucks. I think if your remake is more than 50 bucks, then it's... If your remake is more of more than 50 bucks and it's like but but it's more of a reboot, to then it's fine.
Speaker: It's a remake remaster. I agree with that that price point. Yeah, like Final Fantasy, like I think the Final Fantasy 7 remake is the gold standard of remakes. Like I think everybody can agree on that. That's not really a hot take. yeah um I think like Pokemon does remakes pretty well for the most part, except for the um ah brilliant diamonding Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl. Those ones weren't great. Yeah.
Speaker: But like I think most of their remakes are pretty all right. um But yeah anything more than 40, 50 bucks, like if you're charging a full triple A price for a game that came out like the game that you've already made that came out 15, 20 years ago, then like I think you're just being a little silly. Like you're just kind of trying to rake me over the coals.
Speaker: How frequent should these games come out? Like was like. in your ideal world, like where like remakes remasters do still exist, how frequently would you want to see them?
Speaker: Um, I would want to see them on like a big anniversary. Like, I think if a game that has, like, a beloved fan base that and is maybe a little bit older has, like, a big anniversary, like a 20 or a 15 even, like, maybe, um if it's if it's, like, obscure enough or, like, if it's kind of niche enough, I guess, um...
Speaker: Like, I think like big events are cool and making good remakes or remasters, reboots even, um out of big anniversary milestones is really fun and easy marketing because everybody's like, oh my God, it's the birthday. It's so fun.
Speaker: How do you feel about re-releases where like they don't do anything to a game aside from just port it up to like modern hardware? I am will be the Mario Galaxy games. Yeah. Or like Skyrim a billion times. I mean, to be yeah. Yeah, basically. So I can say that I've bought Skyrim at least six times. Like as um a human being, I can admit this.
Speaker: um But I think re like I think it's tough if you're selling them for 20 bucks, it's fine. it would like if you're If you're just porting it to new hardware, but overall it's like ah but like overall it's the same game, like literally just upgraded like just making it available on a new console, like it should be $20, $30. So basically, I guess the best comparison for that is you're okay with the FireRed Leaf Green relaunch on the Switch because they were $20 compared to the Mario Galaxy ones being $50 a pop.
Speaker: Yeah, exactly. Like, if if it if they added, like, new levels, like, if mar if the Mario Galaxy had, like like, a new world with new levels, then $50 would have been acceptable to me.
Speaker: But if it's just, like, a straight port, then $50 is a little steep. Yeah. Honestly, surprisingly generous, considering it's Nintendo. i have I have a much worse opinion of Nintendo than that.
Speaker: Very fair, very fair. i think they're one of the one of the most anti-consumer companies like in the world. I mean, it it really depends on the day with Nintendo. That's so fair. Just like to be fair, when all of the the consoles were getting price increases, Nintendo was like, hey guys, ours is going to be increasing too, but we're not doing it until this date. So if you want to take advantage of like our current price before the price goes up, you can. This date is the day we're doing it.
Speaker: That was chillow kind of chill of them to let us know that at least. Yeah, that's fair. They did sue Pocket Pair, though. Yeah, but to be fair, that they I don't think they initially were going to sue.
Speaker: I think the internet spurred them into it. i I do feel like a part of it was the internet really being like the people that were really angry with Pocket Pair and Pal World wanting Nintendo to act on it. And like Nintendo were probably looking at it like, look, there's probably nothing we can do, but like The legal people try something, I guess.
Speaker: I kind of agree with this, except for they retroactively made patents. Yes. Now that's the part that I'd like.
Speaker: ah Like, like, again, I think this whole lawsuit could be a problem. Yeah, like Nintendo, like just basically shit like a lot of money down the drain for basically nothing. Yeah.
Speaker: Like, I think there was like a couple small concessions that Power World had to make. But overall, like Nintendo just got dog walked for the entire. Now, to be fair. I will say this. ah Pocket Pair in the past has also, you know, ripped off a bunch of other games with some of their previous games that they've released.
Speaker: um Like, with the game previously, the Power World, it was basically like an entire rip-off of Breath of the Wild. like Yeah. Just go And then, like... like It's more of like those reasons of like why I just do not like Pocket Pair as like a company and stuff. And like ah you do have to admit that in the original when the game originally came out in early access, but a lot of those pals did look a bit suspicious to some point.
Speaker: specific parts of certain Pokemon. I think that while some examples were fair, I think it was mostly overblown. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, well, I will say there were some, there were like a lot of stretches. There were some like pretty blatant examples there. And like, and those are the ones I'm talking about. Yeah, for sure. Like if there was any, like if there was like, oh, it's kind of like, that's a stretch. Look, I don't care for pocket pair. It's why I don't play it. It's a part of the reasons why I don't play Palo World.
Speaker: Yeah, no, i it definitely, like, a few of the designs early on were a little weird. But they did change some. They redesigned a lot of the more egregious ones. Like, ah Robin Quill was, like, ah old Robin Quill was, like, basically just Decidueye. Like, it looked just like Decidueye.
Speaker: And then they remade they kind of remade it now, so it looks different. Yeah. So, like and like, here's the thing. Maybe Pocket Pair will reach the stage. Because Palworld's been doing well for them. Yeah, it's so well that they made a fucking card game. I don't think they needed to do that. No, they definitely didn't. Like, I think that's just really. all taking the piss. We're taking we can get some money. Yeah, the card bros really are like, oh, because like, let's be real. The card bros hate Pokemon.
Speaker: And so like, like there's there's like a definitely like, up sorry, it's not that they hate Pokemon. There's probably like a portion of those card bros that are just like, wish pal world, you know, the better Pokemon got a card game because they're so illiterate and that the two games are like, the only thing they have in common is putting monsters in spheres.
Speaker: True. The games like and that's the other thing. The people that say that Palworld is just a better Pokemon, they're not even the same genre of game, bro. Like, I think the the closest thing that you can say about Palworld is it's Pokemon with slaves. That's the closest thing that you can say. And that's even a stretch because it's not.
Speaker: It's not. It's a survival crafting game where the automation process is using your pals as you are encouraged to catch them all, though. I will. yeah Oh, yeah. No, I don't doubt that. And that's that's nice.
Speaker: It's just that it's just like i wish the survival crafting aspect of it was a little more innovative. Yeah, that's fair. It's basically just arc survival evolved. Yeah, honestly, if people were saying it's better Ark survival evolved, then i have no critiques with that because I think that's just true. You see, i I wouldn't be able to critique that because I've never played Ark. So it's like I wouldn't I wouldn't be able to say much. Actually, I think the people that play Ark like the things that Power World does ah intentionally cut out of Ark, like the 800 hours of waiting and the taming dinosaurs, like everything in that game just takes so long.
Speaker: And the gigabyte size of the game. Oh, yeah. It's like 100 gigs or whatever. it used to be like ARK survival because I had a guest on. I can't remember which one it was. It might have been Dino who talked we talked about ARK briefly and how the game file size of that game used to be so ridiculous because it just wasn't fully fucking like properly like exported as a game. and It was just too big that like future updates, they had to shrink the file size. Mm hmm.
Speaker: Because of how like just big it was and how unoptimized it was because of that. I mean, there have been lots of games recently that I've done that. That's not just like a yeah just them thing.
Speaker: True. like I think i think that's just common, like especially with as graphics are getting better, like um memory bloat is a serious issue. um So when's Palo World getting remake?
Speaker: uh hopefully never like honestly pow world is like live service enough that i i think they'll probably make it to like 2.0 and they'll add like probably level 100 or some shit and then they won't develop it anymore and then they'll just like retire and it'll be fine i don't think i don't think they need to make a po I don't think they need to remake Power World. Maybe a Power World 2. I could see maybe a Power World 2 in the future, like Slime Rancher style.
Speaker: They didn't have to make a Slime Rancher 2, by the way. Yeah, no yeah it's like one of the very, like, when it comes to Slime Rancher, despite how adorable those games are, i'm like, Rancher 2 just looks exactly like Slime Rancher 1. Yeah, it's just Slime Rancher 1 with more slimes, which is, like, fine, I guess. like um But I put a lot of time into Slime Rancher 1, and I really like that game.
Speaker: but I also but need to play the slime rancher games. I guess a good question I have. did Okay. did Did you ever play Viva Pinata? No, I did not never ever play. I watched Viva Pinata. i never played it. i was going to ask you, Slime Rancher like Viva Pinata a little bit, but I don't think you can't answer that question. so Yeah, it's like pretty.
Speaker: Yeah, I'm not sure. i don't know what I don't know if you have pinata place. You just like suck your slimes into a vacuum and then you put them in pens. And then you sell their poop. You sell their poop? Yeah, they're called plorts.
Speaker: but That is not a word! Yeah, yeah so so so you get your slimes and you put them in corrals and then you get whatever they eat and different slimes have different diets. like um there Some of them are carnivores and some of them eat fruit and some of them only eat vegetables and etc.
Speaker: um And then you feed them and they all have a favorite food except for the pink one. And favorite flu food gives you double plorts. So if you're min-maxing, you need to give them their favorite food. But you feed them and then they give you plorts and then you take the plorts and then you feed them into the plort stock market.
Speaker: and And every day when you wake up, the plorts, the plort stock market changes and some plorts are up and some plorts are down. And each slime plort has a different value that changes on the slime plort market.
Speaker: So basically, Slime Rancher is how you learn about stocks and bonds. Yeah, literally. like Slime Rancher sli matcher is that is the tutorial video game to become a Wall Street bro. That's...
Speaker: It's all about dividends and stuff. Oh my god. Oh my god. Well, looks like I know what I gotta play next. Oh!
Speaker: ah Shit. I've been playing games wrong, apparently. I've been playing slime ranchers. This whole time. What the This whole Well, I got to get my ports in there. Goddamn. Yep.
Speaker: All right. One last question before we move on to our second topic of the day. What game remake would you like to see come out in the distance in like the near future? What game remake would you love to see?
Speaker: What isn't Resident Evil 5? What game remake would I love to see that isn't Resident Evil 5? That's a great question. I'm thinking back. And I think all the games that i really like that would i that I would have wanted to get, they should actually, no, should make a remake of Sonic Chronicles.
Speaker: Oh my god, no. They need to make a Sonic Chronicles The Dark Brotherhood remake. That game is so freaking good. oh my gosh, that game is peak. no Oh my god, did disagree more. you I you had a vis i had mentioned this game and you had a visceral... That game needs to be lost to history. What do you mean? This game is so good.
Speaker: I played this game when I was a stupid kid and I didn't understand how it worked, but I had so much fun. no what do you mean no don't say no as a guy who enjoys rpgs sonic chronicles spits in their face but you can play as eggman you can play as eggman sure book it doesn't mean it you can play as eggman as sonic riders you can play as eggman in other sonic games sonic riders isn't an rpg though
Speaker: Yeah, but there hasn't. Why do you think there hasn't been another Sonic RPG? You know, I never thought about it like that. Because he died of Sonic Chronicles. Dude, Sonic Chronicles. I love Sonic Chronicles.
Speaker: BioWare developed by BioWare. That's the craziest thing at the end of the day. BioWare gave us that. yeah Yeah, honestly, one of their better games.
Speaker: I don't know about that. or g five Look, I think Bioware delivered nothing but bangers until like Andromeda. Yeah. Wait, did um ah did Dragon Age Inquisition come out before or after Andromeda? but Well before. Well before. OK, yeah. Dragon Age Inquisition is like 2014. Yeah. So and and after Andromeda. Sure. I love Dragon Age Inquisition, too. That game is really good.
Speaker: Never played a Dragon Age. I really should. Yeah, it's don't play Inquisition first. That game, I think, is widely not liked very well. It's it's like it's like a good game. It's just like a I think a lot of Dragon Age fans recommended the other ones first. Yeah, it's not as RPG. Like, I think Dragon Age, like Dragon Age Origins and um like is like the gold one. That's the one that everybody loves. Yeah. that's And that that one is like a standard RPG. Like you're, I've heard nothing but good things about both.
Speaker: Yeah. I love like, I really like, um, what but real question. what are your thoughts on dragon age two? I guess you haven't played it. Yeah. I never, I never played it. So that one is, that one's bad. That one's don't, we don't, that's the bad one. Don't you skip that one? You play as Hawk. You can skip that one. You can skip a Val guard.
Speaker: Yeah. Well, I honestly, I have friends that say Valgaard is good and I like the story idea of Valgaard. It just seems like a lot of people have a problem with the characters. Like it just seems like the characters are the big hitch for Valgaard. Okay.
Speaker: At least from what I've seen. Like I like Solace though. Like I really liked Inquisition. That's whatever. All right. Anything else you want to add on remakes, reboots, remasters, re-releases? Any of those re's? Re's? Remaster Sonic Chronicles Dark Brotherhood.
Speaker: For what system? For what system? Yes. Okay. Make it on PC at least. Like, just put on Steam. Todd. Buddy.
Speaker: Why? no one asked for this. What you gave us also broke everything. You even took the song away from us. just Just give us what we want and we will pay you money for it.
Speaker: please, please, please, please give the Oblivion treatment to New Vegas. That's all we want. Sound good? Okay. Great. Thanks. ah All right. ah With that, it's time us to move on to our second topic of the day. And we are talking Bethesda. We're going into more of a deep dive ah to the stuff that Bethesda announced a while ago back on July 17th.
Speaker: But really, really good dive deep into a lot of that as we do a bit of a Bethesda nerd with us. Uh, so Reese, how has Bethesda been these past couple of years? ah Terrible, actually.
Speaker: I think like Bethesda has been kind of been sitting on some of my favorite IP in the entire world in Fallout. I love Fallout.
Speaker: um I played New Vegas when I was a kid and was in love with the setting and the world since. um I think that they their development schedule is so long for no reason.
Speaker: And the games that they give are of subpar quality, like follow for am a follow for enjoyer like I like follow for probably more than the next guy.
Speaker: um But follow for is not follow New Vegas or follow three. um And it is for the worse. And so is Fallout 76. Fallout 76 is just a a sham, I think, personally. um And then don't even get me started on Starfield.
Speaker: um i think I think that game was a disaster from the start. um And the saddest part was I was so excited for it. This was before my eyes were opened.
Speaker: And then I paid $80 for Starfield. And then I was like, wait a minute, Bethesda's washed. oof Yeah, no, it was a rough. It was a rough. It was a sad time. But um yeah, I think that ah generally um basically since Sky, they've been coasting on Skyrim's coattails and the effort really took a hit after Skyrim, which is insane because that game came out so long ago. Yeah, Skyrim came out back in 20.
Speaker: Skyrim originally released 2011. 20. I was years old. Oh, God. Yeah, isn't that crazy? But yeah, Bethesda... Yeah, they've definitely been riding Skyrim's coattails for all for 15 years now. Yeah, for 15 years. I'm excited. um I think ah Asha is. as shber yeah Yeah, I think she's going in Sano style. I hope I agree definitely that she is not all talk because so far it's been all talk. Like there's been a couple of things that she showed us, but it's been all talk.
Speaker: I mean, yes yeah yes, but to be fair, with the stuff she's talked about, is and some of the actions that she has done, it has been, like, kind of a very pretty effective stuff that she has done.
Speaker: um obviously Obviously, the big thing was the layoffs and her making that announcement of that of ah basically 32...
Speaker: hot six was the six a lot of staff like basically in the thousands of staff let go all across Xbox Bethesda and all of their other subsidiaries now obviously because of that Bethesda are currently on like a strike as that is currently going on um So we don't really know like what part of the workforce is working because that part of Bethesda is unionized.
Speaker: We just don't really know how much of Bethesda is unionized. ah So we'll see more. But I think that Asha Sharma had to make that call and like with everything that they were doing, with Xbox is doing, and losing money.
Speaker: That the new models that they're going for and what they're planning to do and what they're doing is like so it steps in the right direction. I think these layoffs are bad. Like these layoffs are catastrophic. um But I think a lot of them are kind of sadly almost needed. need Yeah, because I think the industry just bloated so much in COVID. well You see, here's the thing. Xbox specifically bloated themselves up so much because under Phil Spencer, Xbox was just acquiring and acquiring and not doing much else. Yeah, exactly. So like, and like they just bloated so hard. It was a big one of being like the Blizzard Activision act acquisition.
Speaker: Like it was very much of a bloating. And Asha Sharma is like, we need to get this shit in control. we And like a lot of the positions they did say was like middle management stuff of like management positions that like should not even exist.
Speaker: um to lower that chain of command from like 17 to like 3 to 5 yeah it's like oh wow that's bad yeah So you know again, it is very much wait and see, ah but things are going in the right steps. And then afterwards, she kind of basically told Bethesda, make this goddamn tweet in a sense, because Bethesda comes out with essentially roadmap.
Speaker: Yep. Which is almost foreign to Bethesda at this point, but they did. So here's what we know is coming. First, Year three of Starfield and Starborn content.
Speaker: That's the first thing that they talked about is Starfield because they do want to work on Starfield to continue to make that a better game than what it was at launch. You know, I do. I did buy it. So if I come back to Starfield in like a year and I play it and it's actually fun, like I'll be sure to.
Speaker: pray Sing my praises. I mean, to speak on the Wiggles' behalf, Wiggles has said that he's been liking the new stuff that they've done with the game. Okay. ah With well how they overhauled it. So he's he's been enjoying because he's been replaying replaying through it again.
Speaker: i might he might have to try to give it a sniff. ah Then they confirmed that both Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas are going to get remasters. Now, as to like the scope of these remasters, we don't know.
Speaker: ah but these are two of the most beloved Fallout games of all time. And as long as they're given more like justice, like, you know, they actually fix some bugs and not just do what they did with Oblivion, then I think we'll be okay with that. I think they need to add ah sprint.
Speaker: I think in Fallout 3, they need to add ADS. That is like um Iron Sights, rather. Um, I, and I think that's bare minimum. Like, okay.
Speaker: And then I hope they're like 40, $50. Yeah. yeah Yeah. I don't want them to be too expensive. Yeah. I hope they're not going to try to sell them for 80. Uh, we are getting an unscripted fallout shelter television project. That's in the works with Amazon studios and kilter films.
Speaker: That seems like it'll be silly, which I, and I like silly things. I'm a big, yeah itll definitely like, cause like the fallout series is more like on the, Like it has the silly moments, but like it is more serious. Yeah, it it doesn't tend like I think Fallout has serious notes, but in a lot of the time it doesn't take itself super serious. Yeah. And like with this series, it's definitely going to lead more into the silly stuff like that you see with like the Vault Boy stuff that much. And you know what?
Speaker: I think that is that that will work very well. I really like Fallout Shelter. That game, that's a game that I have on my mobile phone that I've had on my mobile phone for like the past 15 years or whenever it came out. Dedicated player. i'm a I'm a big fan of Fallout Shelter.
Speaker: Dedicated Fallout Shelter player here. Wow, look at that. They are playing something special for Fallout's 30th anniversary, and neck which is next year. Fallout turns 30 next year. That's actually very crazy. Holy moly. I hope they do something with Interplay, maybe.
Speaker: That would be cool. on Fallout Day, where it'll be celebrated live in Washington, D.C., and they'll be playing something special to announce. I feel like we might see the Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters then. They might announce like officially announce something with them um on that day.
Speaker: Yeah, I will scream really loud when that trailer comes out. like I um will be very, very excited. We have a new Fallout project being worked on with Obsidian. Let's go.
Speaker: Ten years. Only ten more years. Fallout 5 is currently in pre-production on Creation Engine 3, which is also the same engine that Elder Scrolls 6 is using. And Elder Scrolls 6, well, Asha Sharma tweeted that she watched a live playthrough of Elder Scrolls 6. I saw that.
Speaker: Which probably means if I was a betting man, I think this year's Game Awards, we might get to see a bit of that live playthrough footage on the Game Awards stage. You know, I think that's a pretty probably a pretty safe bet. Like, I think those are good odds for you.
Speaker: I think those are I think that might be the final announcement of this year's Game Awards with a release window 2028. Oh,
Speaker: i Look, if it's like if if they say late 2027, I feel like this is going be a 2028 game. if we see what If we see enough and it's like refined enough, like I could be wrong. It could out next year because the game has been in development a lot longer.
Speaker: Yeah, they've been working on this game since the winter 11. I feel like 2028 is the safe bet that I'd be willing to take with Elder Scrolls 6. We'll definitely get a title drop.
Speaker: like We'll know what region we're going to be in. Oh, for sure. And I think you're right. I think you're right. I'm just sad. Which is fair. That is very fair. Skyrim is such a good game, man. Skyrim is a great game.
Speaker: hey be Fuck, it's been a 15-year...
Speaker: 15 year long game. I go back once a year and I play Skyrim heavily. My play Skyrim.
Speaker: Follow 76 is getting a major update. Raven Rock, which will be acting as a prequel story to Fallout 3. That's kind of neat. I like lore.
Speaker: I'm not going to I'm not going to play it, but I like lore there. And that's everything that was talked about in that big tweet that they did put out ah for just like main Bethesda.
Speaker: Oh, my freaking gosh. They're finally working there. And they actually are working on Fallout. Finally. Yeah. not Just sitting in a freaking vault in Todd Howard's basement.
Speaker: Yeah, I think that we're going to get like a lot more Fallout details next year for their 30th anniversary. Yes. I wouldn't be surprised if they maybe do like a re-release bundle for like the OG early game Fallout.
Speaker: just ah just to put them on modern hardware uh for you know for the people that really want to play it i think it would probably be like at most 30 bucks because like i know how like very different og fallout one two what fallout one fallout two and fallout tactics are i have them on steam fallout one i have them on epic because i have them on the epic game store because they were free that one year for the christmas season Oh, yeah. No, they weren't free on Steam, but they would the whole bundle was on sale, and it was like you got all three games for like $4 or something. It was like stupid cheap. that's That's a great steal as well. Yeah, right? And and stuff like that, like I love that.
Speaker: yeah live for deals like that. yeah i was like some of my first steam games too because i was back before i had an actual computer so i had just like a shitty laptop and thankfully old games run on bad hardware yeah they do that they do that is the one thing that you know we love about old hardware is it runs on shitty you don't have to have a good set to play them yeah you just gotta to know how to fucking run that shit if it's not coming from like directly from steam yeah true ah So what are your what what your thoughts on Bethesda's future from this with everything that they've announced and everything that they're saying they're going to do?
Speaker: i ah how are How serious are they going to take it or are they going to Todd Howard it up? So ah for their sake, I hope they take it seriously considering it's their jobs and whatever that's at stake. um I am very cautiously optimistic.
Speaker: um Asha, Asha's talk has been very productive and there have been lots of, lots of things have started moving since she's, taken the reins and I am confident or am I am hopeful. I'm cautiously optimistic that she will continue that trend to ah drive Bethesda to kind of grab Todd Howard by the scruff of his neck and be like, do your job.
Speaker: Fair. That is very fair. Is there anything else you want to add on Bethesda before we head into the bonus level? Yeah, no, i think I think I got it about all of it. I think um my favorite DLC in Fallout 4 is Safe Harbor.
Speaker: That's what I hear. It's like usually people like that one or they like Nuka World. Yeah, those are like, yeah. And then... Considering those are the two that like really just like added actual content and not just like additions to the base game. Yeah, it's like... I think the... um The...
Speaker: freaking can't remember what it's called but the robot one yeah the first yeah the very first one that one that one was alright I think the the four DLC that they added that were just new places to build ah settlements yeah I think that was ridiculous I the i think that was a little shameless it was a little shameless aside from the one that's like you get to build your whole a whole ass vault yeah that one is alright that one is alright I like that one because you meet like the ghoulified overseer and that that one's yeah cool I like that one yeah It's the only one I interacted with. You see, I played basically because there were six of them.
Speaker: I played the first five and I never played Nuka World. Oh, really? Nuka World is so good. really only one I didn't play. Yeah. All right. Well, with that, it's time for us to now head into the bonus level and start closing things out on another show. Crazy lists, great deals, and recapping gaming history. It's all here in the bonus level. To kick it off with the bonus level, we've got Game Clash, which is a small little eight-man entry where we pick a little topic and our guest gets to decide the winner of each match, deciding who becomes the grand champion.
Speaker: Reese for you. We got pal world. Epic pals. Are you ready? I like this. I am ready. All right. Match one. Relax. Relax. the rest Versus shadow beak. Alrighty. So if this was a pre 1.0 tier list,
Speaker: It would be Relaxaurus, but it's not. This is a post 1.0 tier list. Relaxaurus got nerfed really hard in the sense that you cannot breed Relaxaurus and Celerae to get an Anubis anymore. It was the e it was a really early game way to breed an Anubis, which is like one of the best handiwork pals in the game.
Speaker: um But I got nerfed. So Shadowbeak is much better. A very versatile, um a good dark type attacker and a good flying mount. Right. Match two, Grisbold versus Tetroise. My boy Tetroise is the goat. He's a cute. I'm not surem not sure if you've seen him, Tony.
Speaker: he is just a cube. He is so funny. ah ah He's like, he looks like he looks like Bowser if Bowser or like act and maybe not bow like he's like Bowser with spiky shell turtle, but he's just a cube. He's just like a big Mario block.
Speaker: um Okay. And it's super silly. And so Tetrault wins. Grisbolt is cool. We all like Grisbolt, but Tetrault is just awesome. Panthalus versus Zetalord. Panthalus is, god has to win this one because you, it's like a big part of the story a lot, like a big part of the lore Panthalus is involved in.
Speaker: So um i'm I'm picking Panthalus over Zeno. And also you got that, you got that edit now of like, fly you motherfucker, fly that way of the devil fly. it True, actually true.
Speaker: Playing the fucking attack on Titan music. Dude, the attack on Titan music is just so versatile. You can use that. You can basically throw it in any meme and it's like 10 times funnier. It really is. All right. Match for Mammarast versus King Paka. I think I had to pick Mammarast here.
Speaker: It's like the first big boss that you see in the whole game. It's like at the very starting island and it's level 40. And it's like a big scary moment that opening Mammarast. So I think that he's got a gotta to stand tall.
Speaker: All right. Semifinals, Shadowbeak versus Tetroise. Tetroise, my goat, my cube. He's got to win. love him. And Panthalus versus Mamarest. It has to be Panthalus. I think Panthalus is just like probably one of the best pals in the game.
Speaker: All right. Grand finals, Tetroys versus Panthalus. You know, i'm picking vibes. I have to pick vibes. It has to be Tetroys. It has to be my cube. My cube has to win. He's just so silly.
Speaker: He's just, I love silly. Unfortunately, um i do just want to throw this out here um while we're talking pal world. Yeah. Unfortunately, the best pal in the game is not an epic pal.
Speaker: um It is a rare pal and she is leafing. um It's not, I guess it's not necessarily a she, but the one that I have is a she. um And it is like my favorite pal in the whole game. It is a super potent, um or like mid you get it mid early game it's a super potent battle pal that scales with the amount of grass pals you have in your team and it's just like it scales really hard and it's super cool and she's cute she's just like a little she looks like Chun-Li if she was a panda it's kind of what she looks like okay
Speaker: I like Leeson. Moving on to this week in gaming history. Here's what happened in the past from August 17th to 30th. Starting off with some major events. August 23rd, 1993, Nintendo and Silicon Graphics announced a collaboration on a new video game system to use the 64-bit MIPS R4000 processor.
Speaker: The new system is codenamed Project Reality. Do you know what this console is? I am assuming... in 1993.
Speaker: Would that be the SNES? No, that would be the virtual boy, the virtual boy. What the fuck? um Yeah, well, project reality. In. Oh, project. read Yeah, because it was vr I should have known this. the u Well, it wasn't VR. It was like, oh, yeah, well, it was kind of it was an early sense. its It was like one of the first VR things. Yeah, it was like or VR. It was the earliest foyer into the space, I think. Yeah. ah And August 24th, 2006, Nintendo with Square Enix released a limited edition Nintendo DS Lite bundle in Japan with Crystal White Case featuring Final Fantasy character artwork and the Final Fantasy 3 video game.
Speaker: That's actually huge. Dude, the DS Lite was peak gaming, I think. It was. The DS Lite era was peak gaming. Getting on PictoChat on an airplane and calling everybody in there a fucking, a fucking slur. He almost dropped a gamer word. I heard it I was gonna say you like they're calling everyone there a bitch because that is what you would fucking do and would be like because they're so tiny oh my god I can't believe said that what the fuck moving on to game birthdays starting off August 18th Darkwatch turns 21 years old on the 21st Resident Evil Code Veronica X turns 25 and Bioshock turns game's huge
Speaker: On the 22nd, Legend of Zelda, the original one, turns 39, meaning that we are almost in Zelda's 40th anniversary. Holy. ah On the 23rd, Deus Ex Human Revolution turns 15. On the 25th, Batman Arkham Asylum turns 17.
Speaker: On the 28th, Mario Tennis turns original Saints Row turns 20. oo on the twenty eighth mario tennis turns twenty six on the twenty ninth the original states row turns twenty And on the 30th, Mario Superstar Baseball turns 21. You missed on the 26th, Super Mario Sunshine turns 24. Oh, that one too? Yes, it does. I did miss that. Holy moly, 24.
Speaker: Yeah, Super Mario Sunshine turns 25 next year. Dude, Resident Evil Code Veronica is such a good game. And that's the one getting remade next.
Speaker: it's 25 you know it's past the 20 year mark yeah know what i can't even be mad by my own logic yeah true all righty now move on to tony's game poll this is a seasonal poll we do every year with a different topic uh then we reveal big results uh at the very end of the year uh reese what game should Mario, what sport should Mario play next that he hasn't already played?
Speaker: Does, i was so I was thinking about this at work. Does, um, airsoft count as a sport? Oh, that's a good question. I would, I'm going to say because I don't know if there's like a proper, like, like if it's ever been like, like a proper league slash like a proper broadcast for it. Yeah, that's fair. That's fair.
Speaker: What would I want? Honestly, give me Mario. oh Give me Mario curling. i could not accept curling. is he Does that bracket into Olympics?
Speaker: Winter Olympics specifically. I bracket that into Winter Olympics card because it is like one of the core. Yeah, that's fair. That's fair. and Honestly, I'm running out of sports. Water polo.
Speaker: You know what? Guess what? We do accept water polo. Let's go. All right, your deals of the week coming up, ah your epic free games ah until the 20th of August. You can get Caravan Sandwich for free. And then from August 20th to 27th, you can get Cardpocalypse for free.

Speaker: I'm sure there's something on still that you might like. Your achievement of the week is in Big Walk, Big Tunnel, which is to enter a big tunnel. And your game of the week is Sleigh Blade. And Reese, if there was a game old or new that you would recommend to the audience right now, what game would that be? I think the game that I want to recommend right now is the Mound Omen of Cthulhu.
Speaker: It is a four-player co-op game where you expedition into the mound of freaking, what's his name, the Cthulhu guy.
Speaker: Cthulhu? No, the guy that wrote him. H.P. Lovecraft. H.P. Lovecraft? Yeah, The the Mound is a is and is ah a novella written by hp Lovecraft and it takes place on the island in the book. So you can play as the conquistadors is exploring the island and getting fucked with by eldritch entities with your friends.
Speaker: Nice! And you go through and explore and it's ah like it's like repo style. It's kind of like repo style friend slop. Horror friend slop. It's fun. All right.
