Speaker: Welcome to Tony's Game Lounge, a biweekly podcast that covers everything in the world of video games, TCG, tabletop, and more. Here's your host, Tony 14. Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another brand new episode of the Tony's Game Lounge podcast. I am your host, as always, Tony 14. And joining us this week, once again, another brand new member of the Game Lounge crew, another participant in the Game Lounge crew, Summer Olympics.
Speaker: This week it's Sixth Wing Saint. Yo Six, how are you doing today? Pretty good. feel like I didn't sleep a whole a whole lot last night, but I'm i a good otherwise.
Speaker: Welcome to the podcast. Because this is your first time, we get to start off with everybody's favorite segment, the loading screen, where we ask you for your favorite video game, video game character, and video game soundtrack.
Speaker: I want to be creative. So not all of these are the same answer. Okay. But Hollow Knight is easily my favorite game. So I have to put something else in OST and character.
Speaker: Though favorite character probably wouldn't be... I i do enjoy the character development in Hollow Knight. I probably wouldn't have it as a favorite character. m ah My favorite character I selected is Gabriel Reyes, or Reaper, from Overwatch.
Speaker: Ah, okay. Not specifically just him, more about the fact that the character building and the lore of Overwatch is actually just fantastic.
Speaker: they're Their cinematic universe that existed before everything kind of fell apart was amazing. and they still have the the kind of comics and mini animations that they do for different character implementations. And Rhys and I actually went through and watched all of that.
Speaker: ah He was there for the whole thing. I got there for the last... Half of it, but it took roughly three hours to go through all of it. Wow. And it it it honestly made both of us think a lot of these characters are way cooler than they are just in game.
Speaker: And then my original soundtrack, I went with Uncharted. Ooh, that's a good choice. Yes. And I am aware a bunch of these are similar choices to what Reese made.
Speaker: yeah yes yes now that you do bring it up yes uh and uh i i still haven't played uncharted am aware series we'll get to that i'll i'll get there okay i have the games i have access to playing them it's just i just gotta just gotta get around to it there's too many other games to play it's gotta happen at some point it will it will yeah um
Speaker: What about your hottest video game take? What is your hottest video game take? I was unsure about this because I feel like a lot of my video game takes are not hot in in most contexts. They're rather cold.
Speaker: However, this one will likely ruffle some feathers. Marvel Rivals is a bad game. o The game itself was fine at launch and has continued to fall down the lack of balancing hole that it's been in.
Speaker: And it is strictly solely carried by the fact that it is ah a Marvel property. The intellectual property of Marvel is carrying that game hard.
Speaker: And it's the only other hero shooter out there that people give a shit about. ah People like deadlock, don't they? i just I think it's just because I don't hear as much about deadlock in the news, and that's why. That's fair.
Speaker: I thought they did like a beta release and then full release later. That's probably what it was. Yeah, it's just I don't hear about enough about deadlock. and I think that's why. Like, I just, like, don't, like, i also just don't really, I never really knew what kind of game Deadlock was.
Speaker: I never ended up playing it, so. yeah that The hero shooters just aren't my style of game. I don't play them at all. I avoid them, like the plague. And, like, Fortnite.
Speaker: I don't touch that shit. i I tried Fortnite. I guess there's another hot take. Fortnite isn't very good either. Yeah. don't think that's a hot take. I think that's a, you either fall in that pool or you fall in the other pool of like, Fortnite is life or whatever. far as battle royales it's like the guns don't feel accurate. Generally, the guns just fire sideways and it does not feel good to play.
Speaker: I played it like a little bit on like launch of its battle royale mode and that was the extent of how much I played Fortnite. It has been a while since I played, so I don't know. Maybe they rebalanced some things when they added Nicki Minaj. No, that was Call of Duty.
Speaker: Don't get it mixed up. Isn't everybody in Fortnite now? like a Pretty much. They stole Smash Ultimate slogan. Yeah. Yeah, they did.
Speaker: ah With that, it's time for us to dive into our headline of the week. And boy, oh boy, to this week, these past two weeks have been busy with game showcases because there was not one, not two, not three, not four, but five game showcases in these past two weeks.
Speaker: Two of which are Nintendo, two of which are PlayStation, and one of which is Konami. of of all things. And I only watched three of them.
Speaker: ah ah so we're starting off. The headline of the week is the state of play in state of play, Japan, which happened in tandem back to back, starting it off with the main state of play. And the show opened up with the brand new trailer for the resident evil movie where a bunch of zombie bodies jumped off of buildings and rained down on our main protagonist of the, of the, the movie.
Speaker: ah It was pretty gory. A spectacle, to say the least. The movie is in theaters September 18th. Following that, we got so our the final trailer for Wolverine, which comes out on the 15th.
Speaker: And i mean, it looks good. The reviews are now out. Early reviews are out for Wolverine and it's sitting out a lot of six out of tens. I think like the highest is like an 83. We also got a new trailer for Ghost of Yote's Most Wanted mode, which is the new roguelike mode where you can play as Atsu, Nagato, who is the new character being added in the Echoes of Sekigahara DLC, Oyuki, and the return of Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima in this little roguelike mode.
Speaker: That releases alongside of Echoes of Sekigahara on October 1st, and more of the actual DLC itself was shown in the State of Play Japan, which we'll get to in a bit. Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendants got another brief trailer, which we still don't have a lot of details about the game. They're just like, oh, it's coming.
Speaker: it's We're Capcom and we're showing you more monsters. Oh, boy. And I mean, as as a guy who's never played a Monster Hunter game or just isn't really interested in the series all that much, it's all right.
Speaker: We got our first gameplay reveal for Metro 2039, which comes up February 4th. That's another series I haven't played. so that I'm just not really interested in.
Speaker: Have you played the Metro games at all? Nope. I haven't heard of ah of most of the things they talk about in the the state of play.
Speaker: Metro is definitely one of them that I have never interacted with. Okay. ah well that comes out February 4th, and then we got a trailer for a brand new game coming out next year. It's a sequel.
Speaker: You're a shark. It's Maneater 2, and we're at a fucking theme park eating people now. Let's go. No exact release date, just the 2027 window.
Speaker: We also got a trailer for Crimson Desert's new DLC, Sharring the Unknown, which comes out October fifteenth And then they revealed a new Lego set. A Lego PlayStation is going to be coming soon. and They didn't give an exact release date or release window, but there's going to be a Lego PlayStation for all you Lego heads.
Speaker: And this is and ah not the first Lego console because I know Nintendo has a couple Lego consoles, ah but it's the first one for PlayStation. So that's really cool.
Speaker: There was a part of me that hoped that the Lego PlayStation would be functional. yeah if the they' They'd have like the electronic components built to to fuse with with a ah Lego build and it would function as a regular PlayStation.
Speaker: if If only. That would be funny. I think if they we could do that with every LEGO console that's been released to date, I think ah i think people would opt to buy the LEGO versions of those consoles. like that That would be a promotional item that would make bank. like oh Absolutely!
Speaker: That would be amazing. Build your own console. I'm just thinking of my dad's got a NES Mini upstairs, and all it is is basically Raspberry Pi that has been reshelled to be a smaller version of the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Speaker: yeah And it would be like so easy to turn that smaller and make it into a game console made of Lego. but I think Lego needs to go back and invest in there in that robotics program that, it that it had.
Speaker: i don't know if it still has it actually, it might still be going on. I just don't know, but I just don't know. Cause I haven't dealt with it since middle school. We got also another brand new gameplay trailer for final fantasy series.
Speaker: Resonance. ah We got to see Sephiroth boss fight in there, ah which was kind of neat. It's probably how you unlock Sephiroth in the game as one of your summons. And the demo for the game is out now as well. it's like seven hours long.
Speaker: Apparently people are in love with the Final Fantasy Resonance demo. The game comes out October 22nd, and I'm not playing that game until like next year, unfortunately, because my Final Fantasy marathon that I'm stuck in.
Speaker: Uh, so I can't touch that game until I finish every other Vinyl Fantasy. Yay! The ever-growing games list. Exactly. Uh, we got a new trailer for Gundam Rogue Orbit coming out March 2027.
Speaker: ah which we'll get into more in the japanese Japanese state of play as they reveal more details in that. trailer for a game called Hunter's Moon, which is coming out October 26th. Uncanyon, which is coming out in 2027. That's a top-down puzzle adventure game that looks kind of cool.
Speaker: Keeper, which is out now on PlayStation 5. And then we got in. Then we go into Konami. Konami revealed a lot of two two big things. New trailer for Rev Noir, which we haven't seen a trailer for that game in a long while.
Speaker: I think it was like a Game Awards or something that we saw the first time. ah So new trailer for that game comes out 2027 and then Konami revealed to their brand new game Rhapsody and Scarlet, which will have more details on in both Japan state of play and the Konami direct as well.
Speaker: ah Then we got some details of games that are coming to PS Plus. The game Mycopunk, when it releases, will be out on PlayStation Plus immediately. And then the Classics catalog, Mega Man X Command Mission, Dino Crisis 2, and the original Ratchet & Clank are all going to be in the classic Classics catalog.
Speaker: Saros is getting its Zenith update, which adds an Overlord Rush mode, which is a Boss Rush mode. Eclipse layers, which add more modifiers to make the game harder for you. And a new accessibility options. and The update drops later this year.
Speaker: Gran Turismo 7 is getting its Spec 4 update, which is going to be released across October and December. Adding 12 cars, 2 courses, and more quality of life features.
Speaker: ah Until Dawn 2 got another trailer and a release date of January 28th. Grand Theft Auto 6 is getting a DualSense controller and yeah that's a black in a black and white coloring, which is okay, I guess.
Speaker: I think a lot of people don't really care unless you're just grinding that GTA dick harder every time you hear the word GTA 6. ah So I could care less about that.
Speaker: And then the state of play ended with 10 minutes of gameplay from Final Fantasy 7 ah We get to see party member gameplay.
Speaker: ah We briefly for like three frames see diamond weapon finally, which is nice. And we get to kind of see the open world but where each region is going to basically going to have access to each region again with stuff to do in each region.
Speaker: We got Pico, the Chocobo mount. When you jump off the high wind, Pico will be down there to traverse on. And I'm sure that there will probably be other vehicles to take as well. we got to no We got to see the fit system in action.
Speaker: ah There are going to be four fits to choose from, aside from everybody's base class. Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner. The synergy system is returned and re-optimized.
Speaker: We got to see Wu-Tai, and there's a side game in Wu-Tai where you take photos of cats. So already 10 out of 10 game. You don't have to do more than that.
Speaker: Cutscenes have a fast-forward option, so you can watch cutscenes at two times speed if you don't want to sit around and watch every cutscene. And also, depending on who takes certain the side quests, can change the quest's perspective and the quest route.
Speaker: ah So that is going to be ah interesting to see and also offer a bunch of replayability. The fast forward option and the multi perspective routes probably go in tandem for replayability.
Speaker: Absolutely. yeah absolutely. And the game is long enough as it is. ah Also, Queen's Blood will be returning the card game that was introduced in Rebirth. And the side quest is going to revolve around to Red 13.
Speaker: Pre-orders for the trilogy edition have started and the game of releases officially on April 8th, 2027. And another thing that I didn't mention is when you dive into the world in certain regions of the game, the weapons, like if you dive into the, the, uh, is it the, yeah, if that you dive into the Corel region close to the desert, Ruby weapon is just there large menacing and just walking around.
Speaker: It was absolutely ah crazy to witness that. And I'm sure that Emerald Weapon is probably doing the same thing in the Meridian Ocean Ultima Weapon, wherever Ultima Weapon ah is. I believe it just roams the sky.
Speaker: Crazy that they're actually going have the weapons roam the map while you go do all the side content and main content before you're ready to fight them. and whatnot so very cool and that was the regular state of play any thoughts on that before we get into the Japan state of play six not really most of this is stuff that I'm not super into but I'm sure the people that are excited for these games are very excited
Speaker: All right. And then we get into the state of play Japan. We started off with a new trailer for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, which comes out next year. ah And a trailer for Fate Extra Record, a deck builder game in the Fate universe, which comes out January 28th.
Speaker: And then a big thing ah that they reminded us is the Tokyo Game Show is going on from September 17th to 21st. ah And a lot of ah boot a lot of us studios, Capcom, Konami, Bandai Namco, a lot of those studios will be there and have a show for Tokyo Game Show.
Speaker: So expect more stuff out of that when we get to the 17th to 21st September.
Speaker: So it'll be even busier next episode when we recap all of that. We got a deep dive with the producer for Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance. They talked about the new boost actions for the game, the new area and monsters.
Speaker: They revealed that the Elder Dragon at the end of the trailer that we saw was Gundaraja, which is a new monster from what i believe. And there will be a demo at Tokyo Game Show, or that's where the the demo will will debut, whether or not it'll be available worldwide afterwards. on Unknown.
Speaker: And there will be a Capcom Spotlight at Tokyo Game Show to give more details. We got another brief trailer for Dragon Quest Monsters, The Withered World, which comes out December 3rd.
Speaker: The Eminence in Shadow is getting a video game called The Eminence in Shadow Phantom Echoes, which comes out 2027.
Speaker: Rematch, the soccer game from the seafood developers, is getting a Blue Lock collaboration on September 24th. And then Cygames revealed that they're launching a new smaller scale developer studio called Cygames Edge. And they revealed the first game that they've been working on, Where the Seeds Fall, an adventure game where you descend from the world's tree. And it's a platformer where you're going down.
Speaker: um They say it's good it takes you about three hours to do the story, and then there's a bunch of challenges and side things to do after you finish the game. The game releases on November 5th.
Speaker: We then got a bit of a deep dive with Gundam Rogue Orbit's producer, and they mostly went over like all the customized customizability of all the Gundams, their weapons and designs, and all of that stuff and all the shit you'll be able to do with that.
Speaker: We got trailer for WPCA, World Phase Bound Control Authority. We got another trailer for Stupid Never Dies, which comes out October 21st. And the demo is out now for that.
Speaker: We got a trailer for Slash Zero, which comes out Spring 2027. And there's a demo out for that as well. Echoes of Aincrad is getting its first expansion DLC, and Genesis Maidens, which comes out in Winter 2026.
Speaker: And then Absolute Cinema Digimon Story, Time Stranger, Heroes Legacy expansion. A whole new story taking place after the events of Time Stranger with 50 brand new Digimon coming out next year.
Speaker: And it looks like we play as um Inori's brother. i you ah So I am very excited for that because that was, is it yeah I'm just so excited to see more Digimon content in the big 2027.
Speaker: I haven't played a Digimon game in a long time. It might be time to pick it back up. Time Stranger is great, but i ah if but it's expensive still. So would recommend Digimon.
Speaker: Cyber Sleuth and or Hacker's Memory because those can be like dirt cheap. I think on Steam if you get the cold complete edition you could get for like four bucks when it's on sale.
Speaker: So would recommend. We got a show there for Conk, Crown of No Quarter. That's with a Q. Conk with a Q. That comes out in 2027. And then we got a deep dive with the producer for Rhapsody in Scarlet.
Speaker: ah The game takes place in New York City in the 1920s. You play as Ellie, a mage who fights alongside her various magic beasts. And the story, you're fighting the mafia with magic.
Speaker: that's That's basically the story in a nutshell. They said we'll be be revealing more info later today at the Konami Press Start. Yeah, that's ah that was more ah Rhapsody in Scarlet. We got then a longer trailer for Rev Noir.
Speaker: Then we got a trailer for Daba, Land of Water Scar. And then we got the last thing that they showed off was Ghost of Yote Complete Edition, a deep dive with Atsu's Japanese voice actress. And they revealed a new trailer ah for the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion.
Speaker: That is comes with the Complete Edition of the game, or I believe you can just buy separate if you own the game already. And that was the Japan State of Play. the PlayStation state of place were just very all right.
Speaker: That's a good description. There wasn't like anything crazy, crazy shown like overall, like if you're a final fantasy seven fan, like the, the 10 minutes that they showed was nice to see, but, um but ah but like, other than that, there really wasn't a whole lot at this state of play.
Speaker: I didn't like it enough for me to probably want to spend money on it, but Gundam Rogue Orbit did look pretty cool. i but I think it's like, if you like the Armored Core series, it's like an easier version of Armored Core.
Speaker: From what I gather. And then my other thought here was watching the Rhapsody in Scarlet trailer and their material they revealed for that.
Speaker: I don't know if it's the way they cut it together, but the main character's voice seemed inconsistent i don't know what accent they were going for i think they were a fusion of a couple different things and it was not it was it wasn't it i will say yeah it's super job it's like what if harley quinn had a more thick brooklyn accent
Speaker: It didn't even sound Brooklyn consistently, though. It was. yeah Hopefully it sounds better in the game. And it's just the way they cut the trailer together. But yet let let's hope it really took me out of it.
Speaker: Yeah, no, definitely. the The voice, it was very just jarring with how like high pitched and how like, OK, we need New York. We need nineteen twenty s We need jazz.
Speaker: Hit us with it. It's just, I will say this. I think the soundtrack for that game is going to go hard. Oh, absolutely. So I think we got that to look forward to at least. I think that might win an award at the game awards next year. If it's, if if it if it can achieve jazz jazz perfection, then I think we got a, we got a big hitter for soundtrack of the year next year.
Speaker: Any other final thoughts on, on the state of play six? No, I think that's all I've got for this section. All right. Well, with that, it's time for us to now move on to our Week in Review and cover everything else that happened in these past two weeks. Recapping the major stories of video games and the world of tabletop, looking over recent releases and reports from the Game Lounge crew, it's the Week in Review.
Speaker: And starting it off, some of the major game releases that we had. Orbitals released on the Switch to very middling reviews as well as the game's not long. And it doesn't matter which character you pick of this co-op story because they both do the exact same thing.
Speaker: Blood of the Dawnwalker released as well, introducing the 30-day timer to it, which people were very mixed about. ah But honestly, if you want to play the game and get multiple endings, you can do a a file with the... ah Adhering to the timer and do a file where you don't give a shit about the timer.
Speaker: So you you can just do that. Onibusha Way of the Sword released NHL 27 released Speedrunners 2 King of Speed came out and also Hot Wheels Infinite Rush also released and I have played was playing that is why I stayed up till 3am last night valid And I can say it's fun.
Speaker: It's very fun. The open world is cool. There's four islands you get to go to. The further you progress in the game, you get to return to the other islands to do more side activities as they unlock.
Speaker: There are collectibles that you've got to find. You've got to find Hot Wheels Billboards. hot wheels bill boards ah gears to find. ah There are daredevil races to do to unlock some cars, obviously collect coins to purchase cars and accessories and decals and all that kind of stuff. So very fun so far. I've cleared the first island for its first visit and I'm on my way to the second island right now with how much I played.
Speaker: Very cool. In the world of video game news, they teased it at the end of the PlayStation State of Play, the Konami Press Start event, ah where they revealed they're celebrating 40 years of Konami.
Speaker: It's their 40th anniversary. ah So they started off with some Silent Hill Townfall showing off the same trailer that they showed off at Summer Game Fest.
Speaker: Oh, no, no, not Summer Game Fest at Gamescom. And then they had a messages from the cast segment that they showed. Game comes out September 24th.
Speaker: Castlevania Belmont's curse got some new trailers. We learned that the character that we play as is Rose Belmont and the game releases October 15th. And then in probably what the fuck is this? Why are you doing this? Konami? I can't believe you are creating Fortnite slash Roblox.
Speaker: Konami. Why? Why? Worldcraft. And it makes me want to ask why? Why the fuck are you doing this? This is a new game creator in social space. Very similar to Roblox and Fortnite nowadays.
Speaker: i did I did not like this at all. It was terrifying to look at. E-Football Kickoff is now out on Switch 2. They revealed a thing called Project Zircon, a deck building roguelike.
Speaker: And then they got more into Rev Noir, the action RPG. They revealed more details on the story and gameplay and its 2027 release window. And then Rhapsody and Scarlet, some more details. And by more details, they revealed ah to us the the two voice actors for Ellie, the main character that we'll be playing as, and Ilya, who acts as, I guess, like,
Speaker: the the sidekick, ah the side, the main side character of the game. So Ellie is being voiced by Jeremy Lay and Ilya is being voiced by Hannah Grace. And then they revealed the main theme of the game ah being done by Soil and Pimp Sessions and the Emmy Meyer.
Speaker: ah who did the main theme of the game, and they played that over some gameplay slash cutscenes. And that was the press start event. Like usual, very lackluster from Konami, because I don't think they've ever had a good press start event where it's like, wow, I want to buy everything.
Speaker: As for other gaming news, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe received a surprise update for Switch 2 that allows 8-player split-screen multiplayer.
Speaker: Hopefully you've got a big enough TV. Yeah, hopefully, because I don't think you're playing that on the fucking handheld mode. That would be abysmal. That would be something, but now Mario Kart 8 has 8-player co-op split-screen multiplayer.
Speaker: So take with that what you will. I don't think Mario Kart World even has that. So that's that's what makes that even funnier. And also, you need to have like eight Joy-Cons just lying around or like X amount Joy-Cons, X amount of... That's... that's You need a lot of controllers to even take advantage of that.
Speaker: Wizards of the Coast has teamed up with Random to the House Worlds for a new collaboration centered around Baldur's Gate 3. Random House Worlds plans to publish four book titles as part of the initiative in 2026 with plans for 2027 and beyond to be revealed at a later date.
Speaker: Baldur's Gate 3 Astarion, written by the award-winning New York Times best-selling fantasy author T. Kingfisher, is going to be hitting stores on September 29th. Did you play Baldur's Gate 3 at all?
Speaker: Six? I did not. It's another one of those titles that looked really interesting, but had a price tag on it that I was not going to get behind.
Speaker: I'm sure listeners are figuring out by now, I'm not a very good consumer. I don't like buying things. That's fair. I burned myself out of D&D when the game came out.
Speaker: So like I just didn't want anything to do with Dungeons & Dragons for like a while. That's fair. Overwatch, ah their unvaulted battle passes are being delayed to the start of Season 5 after they revealed that they would be coming soon. They've been delayed.
Speaker: um I'm assuming you probably you might know a bit more about that considering you are an Overwatch player. I am an Overwatch player, and this shows you just how not tuned in i am. i don't know what that means.
Speaker: Oh, cool. Okay. All I do is play the game. i don't i don't focus. like I'll read patch notes occasionally, and that's about all I do interacting with the game outside of playing it.
Speaker: That's fair. That is fair. Frontier Developments, the developers behind Planet Zoo, Planet Coaster, and Jurassic World Evolution, which I didn't realize they shared a developer.
Speaker: ah They announced that it has entered into an agreement with Disney to develop and publish a new game based on Disney's iconic portfolio of IP, raising the possibility of a new theme park management sim,
Speaker: built around Disneyland Disney World and all of that take my money now please please make this be a Disney park theme park simulator game please i would go ah I would i would do I would I would ah might kill a man for that not gonna lie I haven't played a park building sim in a long time I do recall playing a Jurassic Park building simulator years, like decades ago.
Speaker: it was pretty good. i I really hope that this comes out in the next year or two. Like, it's perfect timing because we're getting like a new classic like Roller Coaster Tycoon game later this year.
Speaker: And then this, oh, sign me up. I'm so ready. wrote Park sim games back, baby. Let's go. ah EA has confirmed that the leaked footage of Motive's Iron Man game was real. and If you hadn't heard, there was leaked footage of an Iron Man game. And people were is this real? Is this fake? It's real. There was an Iron Man game in the works.
Speaker: ah And it got leaked after an unauthorized version of the trailer for the superhero game appeared online. We probably won't see more of it for a while, but but might maybe it'll get an official reveal at the Game Awards if it If there was like a a trailer ready.
Speaker: so maybe we'll see the official trailer and whatnot at the Game Awards for an Iron Man game. Iron Man is probably one of my favorite superheroes. So that sounds pretty interesting to me. It sounds good. It's just, you know, whenever EA has something published, is you know, there's a bit of a skepticism the there.
Speaker: The attachment of the name ea always gives me ah unpleasant feelings. yeah A former Jagex employee, Andrew Mod Jed Lakeman, has been sentenced to three years in prison.
Speaker: ah for using dev tools to remove items from players' accounts, then selling them online in old-school RuneScape. An investigation found that Legman had earned more than $400,000 through this activity. That is a swallow.
Speaker: through this activity that is a lot to swallow Oh, in more crazy news, Steam had a massive leak revealing upcoming games achievement lists.
Speaker: And while this means like hardly anything for like a few of some of the games that were on that game list, because they might have just achievements of like clear mission one, clear mission two, et cetera, et cetera.
Speaker: Games like Kingdom Hearts 4 had their achievement list leaked. And this revealed potential worlds that we we would be going to in the game.
Speaker: ah In Marvel Rivals news, Gore the God Butcher is now in Marvel's Rivals, and he killed Loki, making Loki unplayable in the game.
Speaker: Which, I'm gonna say, that's kind of stupid. Not gonna lie. Like, you're gonna make a playable a character unplayable for however long, if like not the rest of time.
Speaker: That's kind kind of kind of dumb. Yeah, anybody who mained Loki is having a bad time now. In Jackbox news, Jackbox is releasing Faking It as a standalone title later this year as Faking It XL is going to launch November 12th.
Speaker: I don't recall the gimmick for that game. That's the one where it works better where everybody is in the same room, like IRL. And it's, you look at your, you pick a category of either you hold up an amount of fingers, you raise your hand, you make a face, or you point at somebody, and it's different clues. you're trying to figure out who the faker is based off of the prompt that everybody is given except for one person.
Speaker: I see. It was in the Party Pack 3 originally, and then it got a sequel in the Naughty Pack, and that that one wasn't great. Like, the features it had were great, but the props it got were not great.
Speaker: The Naughty Pack was generally not well-received. It is the worst Jackbox pack ever made. And I say this every time. Jackbox is funny when you make dirty jokes, but when everything is dirty from the props as well, then it becomes not that great. It's like when the the teacher gets in on the joke. Exactly. No, exactly. No, that's exactly it. Yeah, it's exactly what it is.
Speaker: In Persona 4 Revival news, Damon Mills was revealed to be the new voice for Kanji Tatsumi, the character formerly voiced by Troy Baker and Matt Mercer.
Speaker: In French news, French President Emmanuel Macron declares video games are part of our culture, quote, end quote, and announced a new international gaming festival thanks to the success of Expedition 33. Exact the details on this haven't been revealed yet. It was more of just like there there's plans to make this happen.
Speaker: Um, so I guess we'll have a French game showcase to cover in the coming years, whenever this gets its feet off the ground, which depending on how you feel about the French is either a good or a bad thing.
Speaker: I mean, if they put out bangers like expedition 33, I don't think anybody's going to complain. ah In the Halloween game news, it got a, if you didn't hear about this, the Halloween game, the new isometric killer versus survivors game, it had a sex minigame.
Speaker: I kid you not. If two people went into a closet together, you could play a sex mini game where you're basically just like mashing a button to engage and you're filling up a heart meter and you're hearing sounds. ah You're not seeing anything happen. You're just hearing things happen. And I believe it gives you a buff.
Speaker: they Yeah, the game removed that. ah It does not exist now after the recent hot patch. Seems like an odd thing to put in that kind of game.
Speaker: In probably one of the weirdest pieces of video game news... Frontman of the band Breaking Benjamin, Benjamin Burnley, spent over four minutes imploring the audience to download his Fallout 4 mod to stick it to another modder who he says bullied him over the quality of his work.
Speaker: ah Quote, there was a modder in the community that was really mean to me. End quote. So if you want to go support ah Breaking Benjamin's Fallout 4 mod, guess go go download it.
Speaker: I'm confused what Breaking Benjamin has to do with Fallout 4. He's just a modder. The frontman mods Fallout 4. He makes mods, apparently.
Speaker: are all right which is which is cool and speaking of mods in the bethesda games skyrim added an official mod a creator club item that gives you a talking ikea kallax storage unit as a companion voiced by matt barry taking the pack mule companion thing very literally Yes. ah Yes, indeed.
Speaker: Kojima Productions and PlayStation have parted ways. They are no longer partners in ah video games. Fizzant and OD, Kojima's latest projects, are now partnered with Xbox for these future projects, which is a huge loss for PlayStation right here.
Speaker: The console war continues. In ongoing game news, starting off with MMORPG news, FF14 7.56 Trail to the Heavens is out now.
Speaker: ah Part 2 of Trails of the Heavens. This is at the last of the MSQ missions for Dawn Trail and the brand new limited Beastmaster job. Which is pretty fun so far.
Speaker: but Also, the new Moogle Tombstone event is ongoing as well. And the new PvP series has started as well. In Fortnite Epic Game News, Sora and the Keyblade have been delayed in the new season of Fortnite. And there's no news of when they'll be added.
Speaker: And they've also revealed that Mega Man cosmetics will become available following a themed tournament. In the world of TCG with Pokemon, the 30th anniversary set is on the horizon, releasing on September 16th, and Mega Evolution Delta Rains releases on November 8th.
Speaker: In Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magnificent Monsters are out now, and Beyond the Brave releases on October 9th. In Magic the Gathering, Reality Fraction releases on October 2nd, and Star Trek on November 20th.
Speaker: In Lorcanum, Hyperia City releases October 23rd. And in the Digimon TCG, Timeless Bonds is out now, and the Shillerist 13 release October 2nd. More expensive cardboard. Yeah, expensive cardboard!
Speaker: i love being in debt to cardboard. Don't you, Six? I have managed to evade the call of TCGs generally.
Speaker: That's fair. If there was a TCG that you would get into, which one would it be? I've been playing TCG Pocket, and that's probably the extent of what I will get into.
Speaker: i did play Magic the Gathering once upon a time, but I no longer have friends that play it, so I sold my cards and escaped. Have you pulled anything good with the new Team Rocket pack ah that released in Pocket?
Speaker: I think in my initial polls, I pulled both the full art and the rainbow rare of Raticate, which has been pretty good. I'm almost caught up on set completion.
Speaker: But that is the week in review. Any final thoughts on any of the stories there? No, I think I got my bits in when I wanted to say them.
Speaker: Well, with that, it's now time for us to look ahead to all the games coming out in the next two weeks. And oh my God, there's a lot. Here's what should be on your radar from September 14th to 25th.
Speaker: From AAA titles, indie hits, hidden gems, and hot pieces of garbage, here are the games coming out that should be on your radar. and when It's September, folks. We're like going into September, so like if I lose my voice after this, this is the week that it'll happen.

Silent Hill Townfall comes to PS5 and PC. Sin Reloaded comes out on everything. And on the 25th, the Relic First Guardian comes to the Series X. And that's everything.
Speaker: That is quite the list of releases. It is. It is the busy every because everybody's avoiding November. It's stacked releases upon stacked releases for the remain these next two months.
Speaker: As for the big releases going from ascending order, ah Marvel's Wolverine and Rootscape Dragon Wilds both on the fifth um As I said earlier, Wolverine kind of middling reviews right now, but I'm always in the boat of like, if you want to play it, play it for yourself to form your own opinion.
Speaker: um Or, you know, let read the reviews and wait till it's on sale. if it's If it's a score that you think you should wait on, it's all up to you. be be the consumer you want to be.
Speaker: I'm still going to get it. I still think it looks cool. I'm gonna probably going to be an easy plot like all the other Insomniac Marvel games. ah But Rootscape Dragon Wilds, that's a big release. It is not an MMORPG.
Speaker: It is a ah for up to four player survival co-op game, which is vastly different. um And considering that it's going be free on PlayStation Plus, I might pick it up.
Speaker: And give it a try. Why not? It's free. Exactly. Animo is the new... I want to say it's Hoyoverse, but I don't exactly remember if it is or not. No. No, it is not.
Speaker: But it's a new monster-capturing game where you fuse with the monsters that you capture to fight... baddies and whatnot if i remember incorrectly so that's the big one that people are kind of looking forward to fire emblem fortunes weave that's a big game for switch two i know that reese said that if he gets his hands on that he may be gone and we may never hear from him again because he'll just put all of the hours into that the addictive personality is coming in here
Speaker: yeah uh trivia murder party 3 uh that's a big one i'm very excited for coming out on the 17s that means but some jackbox night in the game lounge to play some trivia murder party trivia murder party i would argue is one of the best games they've ever made my family in particular has had a lot of fun with it So a full dedicated game for Trivia Murder Party is very exciting.
Speaker: I am very excited for Control Resonance. That game is currently being set up to possibly be my game of the year, if it's good. So I'm very excited for Control Resonance.
Speaker: And then Garfield escaped from Monday, a platformer starring Garfield. What more could you want? Pull up the Garfield tale of two kitties on your second monitor you play. Ha ha ha ha ha!
Speaker: Yes. The best Garfield movie. Good movie. No notes. Good movie. No notes. I forgot about Garfield and Tale Two Kitties. How could you forget the masterpiece?
Speaker: How could I forget Bill Murray and Tim Curry side by side as Garfield and ah Garfield 2? How could I forget that, you know, they use CGI to make this orange cat. They use real animals for every other animal.
Speaker: I watched that movie so much growing up as a kid, too. Like, how could I forget? I've definitely seen it a couple times. Well, with that, then it's time for us to dive into our main focus of the week, recapping one more game show and also another gaming event.
Speaker: Here's what we're talking about this week in the Game Lounge. Conversations of past and future games, the state of the gaming industry, how big decisions affect gamers and anything else that's important to us. Here's what's going down this week in the Game Lounge.
Speaker: And to start it off, our first topic of the day, we had two Nintendo Directs back-to-back. Zelda's 40th anniversary and a regular-ass Nintendo Direct.
Speaker: but They happened on two separate days back-to-back, both in the early morning hours. And time to talk about what what got revealed in all of those in our thoughts.
Speaker: Kicking it off, the Zelda 40th anniversary. And the show opens up and it's an orchestral opening that follows montage reel of all the games.
Speaker: And whatnot. And then they go to Miyamoto, who reveals that the live action Zelda movies theatrical release is happening April 30th.
Speaker: And the movie is just called The Legend of Zelda. No subtitle. No, nothing. Just The Legend of Zelda. we and We didn't even get like any casting info or like details or even a trailer. We just got that.
Speaker: Not gonna lie. was i was a little sad that we didn't get to see anything. really dripping with info over here yeah uh they then talked about the nintendo museum uh the ticket designs are changing for zelda's 40th to be a theme uh around uh legend of zelda uh they are adding a zelda history board exhibit um a master sword photo op and also the super family restaurant to opening in the fall which will have not just the link as like a giant standee in there, but also like other Nintendo carrier characters scattered throughout the, that, that restaurant.
Speaker: Also, some Zelda themes are going to be on the Nintendo Today calendars ah for Zelda's 40th. And then they revealed a bunch of like toys, figurines and a brand new leg Lego Link in a Pota set.
Speaker: Very briefly, it was very much like a ah highlight reel of like, here's all the shit that's coming. It's like, whoa, look at all this Zelda Link shit. Whoa. And that was that.
Speaker: ah They then revealed that there's going to be a 40th anniversary concert series. ah It'll start in Japan across the month of January and then come to North America February 22nd, starting in Chicago.
Speaker: and then we don't know what the other two tour dates are yet. It'll be in Europe on April 3rd, starting in London and Australia May 13th in Melbourne, starting there.
Speaker: We don't know how many dates are going be a part of each tour. The Japan one had like maybe five or six dates, I believe. um So it might be similar in that sense of like there might be five or six dates. So I don't think it's going to come to Canada.
Speaker: Not likely. And then we get to the meat and potatoes of the direct, the Ocarina of Time remake. And they're showing us gameplay and the new graphics. And, oh my God, it's different. I think is the best way to say it.
Speaker: I thought it looked pretty good. The one thing that stuck out was, ah young Zelda looked a little odd. Ha ha ha ha. ah yeah very much so it's using set like very very realistic graphics like what if Hyrule was like real it looks so different compared to everything that we've seen with Zelda the big thing there is a jump button no longer do we have to run to the edge of a ah cliff to jump we now have a dedicated jump button
Speaker: ah There's also they showed us the water physics swimming and diving ah the new threads of time, which is basically the quest tracker, which I'm all for because now we won't get lost when we're playing this game.
Speaker: ah there's dashing, the day-night cycle now flows freely everywhere and not just Hyrule Field, and there's a huge mic input ah part where if you can hum a melody while you're playing the ocarina and it's a proper melody, it'll recognize that.
Speaker: Or, if you play an ocarina And they're also making an official Ocarina of Time as merchandise. You can play the song on that and it'll recognize the song and put it in the game as well.
Speaker: Characters are fully voiced in the cut scenes and the game releases November 5th. The game will also have... Zelda notes, uh, uh, support the app. That's in like the official Nintendo app or whatever. Uh, there is a photo quest mode where if you go to a place, it'll recognize where you are. You take a photo of that. You'll get points that you can turn in to, ah ocarina song songs that they have uh you can play the ocarina on the app and you can make your own ocarina songs and share them via qr code and there's also a quiz that you can do as well to prove that you are the ultimate ocarina of time nerd there's gonna be two new amiibo uh young link and young zelda they both unlock in-game masks i believe both cosmetic i don't think they actually do anything
Speaker: And there's going to be an official Zelda 40th anniversary Switch 2 and Pro Controller dropping on October 29th, 2026. They then ended it with a brand new trailer for Ocarina of Time.
Speaker: And we got to hear some voices throughout it, including like Saria, Zelda. And then what I wrote down...
Speaker: Matt Mercer sounding Ganondorf. At least that's what I believe it is. They could have given Matt Mercer a different role, but I think Matt Mercer will be reprising his role as Ganondorf in the game.
Speaker: I myself have never fully played a Legend of Zelda game, and playing this one seems like a pretty good place to start.
Speaker: The open world of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom is somewhat daunting as well. There's a lot of things going on. i think for a start, it's better to have some structure.
Speaker: but that that That is the nice thing about Zelda, though, is you can start literally anywhere because the only games that are like tied together are the ones but that have direct sequels.
Speaker: So Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom... Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks.
Speaker: So yeah, that is that was the Zelda Direct in the nutshell. didn't show anything else. That was everything that they did show. Overall, it was pretty solid and ah very well put together.
Speaker: um Any final thoughts on the Zelda Direct at all? Six? It was entertaining, and I am excited to play Ocarina of Time for the first time. I'm sure there's a lot of people that are excited to play it to relive some of their original time playing the game, but I i was not one of those who played it originally.
Speaker: Neither was I. I played it the first time as a five minute demo in Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Interesting. as yeah Because Brawl had, i think it was 12 classic games with like very short timed demos that you could play. And Ocarina of Time was one of the longer ones with giving you five minutes or so.
Speaker: Maybe it was seven minutes or so in Ocarina of Time. And then with that, we get into the main and Nintendo Direct that happened to the day after. and it was not lackluster. Well, it was kind of lackluster as well. It was there was not like a lot revealed. There were some cool things.
Speaker: But to me personally, there wasn't a lot that I was excited for. I was specifically hoping there'd be something about winds and waves, but we aren't that lucky.
Speaker: No, we are not. ah Prior to this Nintendo Direct, as there usually is, there were alleged leaks of the Direct that were circling around, and all of them were wrong.
Speaker: ah Because the leak said, oh yeah, there's going to be talk about a new Smash Bros. That was the big thing, is that there was going to be a new Smash Bros. at this Direct. In all the leaks that happened.
Speaker: And was there a new Smash Bros. at the Direct? Spoiler alert, there wasn't. there There was not a leak for, there was no Smash Brothers at this direct. Smash Bros. is never coming to the Switch 2.
Speaker: ah As for what was announced, Monster Hunter Wilds got another trailer, but this time it's the Switch 2 version of the game. The Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds comes with the comes on December fourth FF7 Revelation got another brief trailer coming out April 8th, as we already know.
Speaker: But Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion is now out on Switch 2, as that was revealed. Hyrule Warriors age Age of Calamity Definitive Edition is coming out February 25th for Switch 2, adding a new difficulty and some new content along with ah everything else from the game, including all the DLCs.
Speaker: Mecha Chameleon is now out on Switch 2. And I didn't realize it was pronounced Mecha. I always pronounced it Mecha. I was uncertain until I heard it in the Nintendo Direct, and then I figured that was probably the correct way to say it.
Speaker: ah We got some new details for the Pocopia expansion pass part two. We got to see the accessor some of the accessories that are getting added and a couple of the new Pokemon that will be added as well, including No Duo, Skinny, and Brakeson.
Speaker: ah No release date yet for when part two of Pocopia's expansion pass releases though. Star Fox is getting a new update to its battle mode. It's going free, adding four player split screen and three brand new stages.
Speaker: And Star Fox Adventures is now out on the Nintendo GameCube Classics. Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Remastered is going to be coming to Switch 2 on September 29th. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Royal Edition comes to the Switch 2 in 2027. Fire Forces Weave September 17th. We just got a final brief trailer of that.
Speaker: And then we got a new trailer for Professor Layton in the New World of Steam, which releases December 10th, finally getting a release date. And Yo-Kai Watch 2 Haunted Domain is now in the works.
Speaker: I believe this is a remake be or a remake ah being made. um But that's still cool to see Yo-Kai Watch return. And then Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition is coming November 12th, and they revealed that they're giving voice commands to Ochi and a brand new Dandori Academy mode, which is basically a Pikmin trial mode, where it's like you you you get a level, practice it, and then you got attempts to gotta do it to get a grade.
Speaker: ah So how however well you optimize the levels that they throw at you. We then got a trailer for Onyx The Dark Grip, a handheld-only game that uses the touchscreen, and it's being developed by Bloober Team, the team behind the Silent Hill 2 remake.
Speaker: That comes out in 2027. Xenolade Chronicles 3 Switch 2 Edition comes out December 3rd, and they showed off the hero's vault mode being added, which is a roguelike mode, and the brand new hero, Shimmer.
Speaker: We then got a trailer for Stage Fright, which is up to three-player co-op, from what I gathered from that. It's being worked on by the devs of Overcooked, and comes out 2027.
Speaker: Disney Dreamlight Valley, The Keepsake Sea is the next expansion coming to that game, coming out in November. On Day, On Day, Kaya's Tasty Tale is a rhythm game coming 2027, rhythm adventure game.
Speaker: Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight comes to Switch 2 on September 18th. Kirby Air Riders revealed the last two amiibo coming to that series. Sword Kirby and Dragoon and Noir DDD and Hydra. Both of those released November 12th, giving us a total of six amiibo in that series, which we thought there would be a lot more, but I guess it probably got scrapped and that's why they're only doing six now.
Speaker: Cairn is coming early 2027 for Switch 2. The demo for it is out now. Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes are coming to Switch 2 on October 16th.
Speaker: Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis comes out February 12th on Switch 2. And then we got more details on Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. which is very exciting.
Speaker: As they mostly showed the free roam mode. ah We can free roam the island with the plane, a skateboard and a jet ski. There's also an island crown mode for offline play.
Speaker: And we got to see the return of the infamous me, Matt. He's back. He's going to knock our shit around. He's going to kill us. Get ready to have the crap beaten out of you by a man named Matt.
Speaker: Yes. The most terrifying me in existence. The game comes out October 22nd. ah Very excited. to very With them showing the free roam mode, I am now more excited than I was before.
Speaker: And then we got to the blood of one of the probably the biggest reveal ah during the Nintendo Direct, a new 2D Metroid game, Metroid Ravenous, coming out January 28th, 2027. had Samus voice acting in the trailer, and also Samus can consume the abilities of her enemies.
Speaker: ah And we're getting three new Amiibos with the game. a Two new Samus Amiibos, one with her suit for the game and one with her like a mutated suit and a Chozo statue Amiibo as well.
Speaker: ah Mario Kart World has received a free update adding 10 new classic tracks from Super Mario Kart that are just kind of around the overworld. They're now official tracks that you can play on.
Speaker: Two new knockout tours are also getting added, Propeller and Turnip Rally. And the update came out and dropped already. Mega Man Duel Override revealed that Protoman will be playable in the game. Comes out Spring 2027.
Speaker: And Amiibo of Mega Man and Protoman will also be available for the Switch 2 version. Or Switch and Switch 2 version. I don't remember if it said it was getting a Switch or switch version or not.
Speaker: Eternal Anima got a trailer with a release date of March 4th, 2027. This was a RPG. Just kind of looked a little not memorable, but it was an RPG.
Speaker: ah And then Danganronpa the remake of Danganronpa 2, has a release date of January fourteen And they revealed that you pick between the original story and the brand new Slayhem story. And they possibly revealed that Ryota from Danganronpa 3, the anime, might be making an appearance in this game, which would be absolutely nuts. And I'm kind of losing my mind over it a little bit.
Speaker: We then got a trailer for Fatal Fury City of the Wolves coming to Switch 2 on October 22nd, and they revealed the new characters coming to the game, Manjiro and Ken from Tokyo Revengers.
Speaker: This game and its crossover characters are nuts. As you can now play as Salvador Kodachi, Cristiano Ronaldo, the Tokyo Revengers cast, Street Fighter 6's Ken and Chun-Li, and Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star, amongst other crossover characters.
Speaker: Metal Slug Ultimate Collection coming out 2027 was revealed. and is going to include Metal Slug 1 through 7, X, Advanced, and the Location Test version.
Speaker: Then the most exciting news ah for the direct, in my opinion, Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX! This is a remake of Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force 3, which was Japan only. This releases February 16th, 2027. And considering GX is my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! anime of all time, and we get over 100 characters to have as dual partners in this game is absolutely great. um with ah added GX support cards from modern times. as I'm so excited because it needs more heroes for me.
Speaker: Romancing Saga 3 Destiny's United was then revealed. This is the third remake in the Romancing Saga series. It comes out February 2027.
Speaker: And then we get into a rapid fire reel. ah They revealed the following. 007 First Light coming out later this year for Switch 2. Far Cry 3 Classic Edition and Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Classic Edition come Spring 2027. The Crew Motor Fest, October 8th. The Apothecary Diaries, The False Imperial Brother, early 2027. House Lover 2, October 15th.
Speaker: Slavic Pico Park, November 12th. Dragon Quest Monsters, December third Torneco's Mystery Dungeon Classic HD out now. It's a Mystery Dungeon game set in the Dragon Quest universe.
Speaker: Hela, December 1st. Ericsson, The Stolen Dream, December 3rd. Stellar Blade Complete Edition, which features a Bayonetta outfit, November 5th. The Ascent Ultimate Edition, December.
Speaker: It Takes Two for Switch 2, October 15th. Paglia for Switch 2, December 2026. Bluey's Happy Snaps, October 15th. Hot Wheels Infinite Rush, out now. Fading Echo, September 17th. Hell Is Us, October 8th.
Speaker: And Marvel's Guardian of the Galaxy Encore Edition, November fifth All coming to Switch 2. Persona 4 Revival will be not not coming in February for Switch 2, but instead May 20th for Switch 2. And Persona 6 was revealed will also we'll also be out on Switch 2 as well.
Speaker: ah And lastly, the last thing that was revealed, Kirby and the World Beyond, coming spring 2027. ah A new open world Kirby game. This is like the Mario Odyssey for Kirby properly this time.
Speaker: And the trailer for it saw Kirby launch King DDD. King DDD went through like, what it's like you see the background normally. He like breaks through it's like, oh, it's the fucking Truman show. But Kirby, the Truman showed Kirby.
Speaker: They Truman showed him. Let's go. ah so that comes out next year. And Kirby is also celebrating his 35th year anniversary as well. um So probably more Kirby news next year.
Speaker: And that was the Nintendo Direct. Very middle of the road for me. Like, I have two games that i'm very excited for, which are Kirby and Yu-Gi-Oh! And that's it.
Speaker: Kirby's interesting, and I like the Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. Oh, that too. That too. But i've that's been on my radar for a while. So it's not like do do new, new, new.
Speaker: That's fair. In a sense. Like, I'm excited for it, but it was like, for reveals, there was two things that, like, I was very excited for. ah any thoughts on the main Nintendo Direct there, Six? What were your thoughts from it?
Speaker: Disappointed that we didn't get much for Pokemon news, but we'll get more eventually. Yes. I'm sure we're due for a Pokemon Presents very soon. Considering the 30th anniversary TCG is coming out soon, I think a Pokemon Presents is definitely on the way.
Speaker: I don't know what their content release cycle looks like, but I wasn't expecting to get any, since we didn't get any significant news about winds and waves here, I was not expecting to get anything significant until Pokemon day. Yeah.
Speaker: yeah And when is I think it's February. Oh, right. Yeah. I mean, they usually have like a fall Pokemon presents too.
Speaker: So like, we'll probably get something February 27th. mean, we'll definitely get details then obviously, but I feel like we're, I feel like we'll get something if not this month, next month for a Pokemon presents realistically because haven't seen like, cause wizard waves is set for next year.
Speaker: Yes. So they need to start showing, like, unless the game is planning to be, like, fall of next year, we have not seen anything regarding Winds and Waves since its initial trailer.
Speaker: Part of me wants information on it. The other part of me wants them to spend time developing it so we don't have the mess that was Scarlet and Violet on release.
Speaker: I mean, from the trailer we got, they they they they were very ah careful to make sure they they show us windmills flowing in full rotation. It did look a lot better in the trailer.
Speaker: So hopefully they keep that up. Time travel is a weird phenomenon that only Michael J. Fox and those that play Insert Map Game Here experience.
Speaker: Need time to disappear? Don't worry. That new colony you established needs a lot of work. Oh, a minor faction that should be easy to fight? This war should be really quick. Oh shit, is that the sun?
Speaker: Map games. One minute, it's the early evening. The next minute, the sun has risen and you have three missed calls from your boss. ah well We'll get to talking about some more Pokemon stuff and also probably continue our winds and waves discussion there as we dive into our second topic of the day.
Speaker: Pokemon Worlds 2026. ah This took place August 28th 30th at the Moscow Center and Chase Center in San Francisco, California.
Speaker: ah The biggest Pokemon event in the world as not only... Does it have the tournaments for VGC, TCG, Go, and Unite?
Speaker: But it also has like a whole like shopping area. There's just so much Pokemon all in one place. It is a massive event that I have never had the privilege of attending.
Speaker: Maybe one day. Maybe one day. ah So we're going to start off with the announcements that were made at ah the show. um First off, 2027 Worlds will be taking place in Singapore.
Speaker: So will we go next year? Probably not. That's quite the plane ticket. Quite the plane ticket. um The only way we're getting there is I think if we win the fucking...
Speaker: regionals or like get like invited to go. i Yeah, I better start competing so I can earn a ticket for... Worlds 2027. Exactly.
Speaker: ah They revealed the Pokemon wild card, which is a brand new feature length animated film releasing early 2027. And it's going to follow the TCG ah instead, like is a card game movie.
Speaker: That looked very interesting. I did think that looked really good. I still haven't seen that trailer. i've been like i've surprised but I was supposed to watch it. I still haven't seen it.
Speaker: So i i so i still I don't know what to expect from it. I like the look of the the animation style in the trailer. And i think I think it'd be pretty good.
Speaker: There's a lot they can do with that kind of movie. yeah They definitely can. Z Mega Evolutions are coming to have been added to Pokemon Champions. So Lucario, Garchomp, and Absol Z, as well as Rillaboom and Maxcalibur's Megas as well. Or Rillaboom has been added and Maxcalibur's Mega has been added. Or does Rillaboom have a Mega?
Speaker: Rillaboom does not have a Mega, thankfully. No. Okay. Yeah, so Rillaboo's just been added and Baxcalibur was also added. i think Baxcalibur's Mega was added too. Yeah, Terrain Wars are back in VGC.
Speaker: Let's go! There's even less reason to use Raichu X. Ha ha ha ha ha! We got a brand new trailer for Pokemon Tales, The Misadventures of Sir Fetched and Pichu. It's going to be airing exclusively on Disney Plus in 2027. This is being done by the animation team behind Wallace and Gromit.
Speaker: Very excited to see this. The new trailer, I did see this one and it just looked great. Five new Lego Pokemon sets were announced to come out in 2027. I tried to figure out what they were, but I couldn't find details on what those sets actually were.
Speaker: But more Lego Pokemon. Pokemon Go Mega Evolutions are going to be getting access to a third charged attack, introducing new strategic possibilities and ways for trainers to battle their friends and rivals starting in the next season of the Pokemon Go.
Speaker: They'll also be able to use Mega Evolved Pokemon at all levels in the Go Battle League. Changing that meta up a bit. Not a battle system that I've interacted with extensively, but it it feels very...
Speaker: type matchup dependent. Having a third move will probably help with that. The Pokemon TCG unveiled new cards such as Mega Lucario Z EX marking the debut of Z Mega Evolution Pokemon in the game.
Speaker: In addition, Raikou, Entei, and Suicune are coming soon to the Pokemon TCG in a newly revealed EX Star Series. Dual type Pokemon are coming to TCG Pocket in October.
Speaker: And they also announced the next batch of Pokemon coming to Pokemon Unite are Morpeko, Toxtricity, Jolteon, and Flareon. And those were all the announcements, announcement-wise.
Speaker: ah We then get into the actual world championships and who won everything. um So there are four main divisions when it comes to Pokemon worlds.
Speaker: ah Four main things. The VGC, the TCG, Go, and Unite. uh two of which are more sought after than the other two depending on like how you can consume your pokemon media uh for unite the team zeta division are your new world champions and in pokemon go hiroki yamauchi or ggs 489 hiromaru uh was your winner for pokemon go both of them were residing from japan
Speaker: Now, do you want to start with the VGC? Now, you were you were watching Worlds, or like you caught some of the highlights from Worlds, if I'm correct, Six. I did watch a good portion of the Master's Division of VGC.
Speaker: what how How was, ah with what you had consumed, how what what what what did you consume but from the Master's Division of the VGC? Well, watching it showed off just how daunting a task it is attending Worlds.
Speaker: Because qualifying is no small task. No. This year at Worlds, we had eight former world champions competing in the pool of players for Masters Division.
Speaker: And of those eight previous world champions known as the best of the best, only two of them made it to day two, and neither of those two made it to finals.
Speaker: So it was like two brand just brand new people in world finals for Masters Division. is is this this is Is this a division that Wolf Glick is?
Speaker: Yes. Wolf Glick was one of the eight world champions that did not make it to day two. Or I guess the six of them didn't make it. Wolf was one of them.
Speaker: Wow. Shohei Kimura, our 2023 world champion, and Naoto Mitsubishi, our 2019 world champion, both made it today too.
Speaker: And they are the only of the eight world champions that made it that far. Jesus. So how do you even? Okay. So like, I know that there are three divisions. Junior divisions are a it's like junior division and senior division are just age ranges. If I'm correct. I believe that's true.
Speaker: What's what's master's divisions requirements then That is a question I wish I knew the answer for off the top of my head. That's it time of it's time to for good old Google then.
Speaker: Masters division, top competitive age categories for age 16 and older. ah Okay. So junior, okay, here we go. Junior division, twelve yeah you are 10 years old or younger.
Speaker: Senior division, you're, oh, oh, it's 13 to 15 year olds. Okay. And then masters is 16 and older. I see. Okay. I thought it was senior division is like X amount to 18 and then Masters is 18 plus then. No, it's 16 and older. Okay. I was not aware Masters started that young. Neither was i That's actually kind of crazy. But then again, I guess if you want to become the very best like no one ever was, you got to start young.
Speaker: Absolutely.
Speaker: so that that So that's day one, six champions out. Day two, only two of them remain, but they don't even get to the the grand finals. Neither of them made it to finals.
Speaker: For day two usage stats, the top 12 Pokemon in day two King Gambit was at the top of that list with 64.9% Wow. Very, powerful Pokemon.
Speaker: wow very very powerful pokemon Charizard is also right up there with 42.1% usage. That usage stat is equal on the mega evolutions that made it to phase two. So every single one of those Charizards was a mega Charizard Y.
Speaker: no Oh, Mega Charizard Y. Which does not surprise most people because Mega Charizard Y has been dominating both Regulation M.A. and Regulation M.B.
Speaker: Oh, interesting. Again, I don't pay attention to the scene, so it's like i I never know what to expect out of it. Despite its dominant usage stats and how strong it's been throughout the format, it did not win Worlds this year.
Speaker: Oh! That title goes to Takuma Yamazaki with yeah ah his Mega Dragonite and Mega Floette team.
Speaker: Oh! Mega Floette got used! Ooh! Wow. And good for Dragonite. You know what? Like people were shitting on Dragonite's mega design when it got revealed.
Speaker: Good for Dragonite. As far as I'm aware, this is Dragonite's first worlds win. Dragonite finally getting the love it deserves. ah Very interesting that both Charizard didn't win, making a bit of an upset there. Yeah. But Takuma Yamazaki, in particular, has one result to his name, which is top four in the tournament that allowed him to qualify for Worlds.
Speaker: Wow. So not having any first place accolades to your name and winning worlds must be a very interesting feeling. i mean, it's definitely like, i would say like, it just sends kind of that an underdog story going into this, you know, you get, you qualify, you got, you, you, but cause I don't know how many like qualify to get to worlds ah per like whatever the tournaments are. Like, don't know what positions you have to be in to, uh,
Speaker: qualify Like if it's if it is just like the top four or five players from the tournament, then it's like, yeah, you're like, you barely get into that. I believe winning certain tournaments automatically qualifies you for worlds. And then there's a threshold of championship points you need to acquire to qualify for worlds. But then on the eastern side, ah Japan's Worlds qualification comes only from a tournament that they play, i think. it's It's very confusing, and I don't know the specifics behind it.
Speaker: But still, like you you come in with that, you don't have any wins to your name tournament-wise, and then you come over to the other side of the world, And just walk the fuck in and boom underdog story just like that. ah The other division winners for your VGC in the junior division was Kazuki Kage from Japan. And the senior division was Vikram Theagarajan from the UK.
Speaker: And those were your winners in the VGC side of things. ah And then on the T's, did you pay attention to any of the TCG side at all? I did not. No. ah Your junior division winner was Utah Iraqi from Japan. Your senior division winner was Jake and from Australia.
Speaker: And your master's division winner was Andrew Hendrick, represented the U.S. of A. So thank God the U.S. got that one because otherwise it would have been a you're the host city and not a single U.S. person comes ah comes out to win. That's always like a little you kind of hope you yeah as a host city, you know, you kind of hope as like I really hope someone from our country wins this with something at least looking at the representation from our winners. It's a lot of Japan.
Speaker: Yeah, that makes, yeah. But I don't think that's, like, surprising. No. no Certainly not uncommon. Yeah, exactly. um What were your overall thoughts on Worlds 2026? Is this, like, the first one? I'm assuming you've watched previous Worlds in the past?
Speaker: Yes, I've followed it before. Not remarkably closely, but I do find it entertaining to watch. How did this one compare to other worlds of worlds past?
Speaker: It gets bigger and better every time. definite Definitely. that That is true. what ah Were there any other highlights from the tournament that stood out to you? Or what were your highlights from it?
Speaker: I feel like being there would be quite the unique experience. The way they have the stage set up with the...
Speaker: graphics project. I don't know if they were projected or if the floor was, was made of something that, uh, uh, created basically a screen that showed all the different Pokemon graphics, but it, it the whole arena that they played in looks so cool.
Speaker: Uh, the big question, because they didn't reveal anything at worlds regarding Windsor waves either. And going back to the Pokemon, do you think we'll actually see a Pokemon Presents later this year? I hope so. I'm not expecting to get anything significant until Pokemon Day.
Speaker: um ah do you have any thoughts or predictions for Winds and Waves? what What are your thoughts and predictions that you're hoping to see out of Winds and Waves? I don't want to predict anything because I'll likely get it wrong. I will absolutely hope that they'll be adding more compatibility with the discontinuation of...
Speaker: bank Yeah. There's certain Pokemon that are strictly, completely unobtainable. So I'm hoping with this game introduction, we will finally have everything available on Switch. On Switch. Consoles, yeah.
Speaker: I think that probably will be the play that does happen. Do you think Pombon is going to remain on all fours? Again, I don't want to predict anything, but I certainly hope that we will remain on all fours. I'm less optimistic about Gekwa remaining quadruped, we'll see.
Speaker: I will say i did like the design of all three of the starters this time, which is not something I can say for every generation. Okay, that's good.
Speaker: But I can't make a starter selection without seeing the final stage. Obviously. ah that i feel the same. I usually feel this. No, I am the same way. but This was the first year that Pokemon Champions was used for the VGC.
Speaker: Uh, what more do you want to see out of champions going forward? Uh, when it comes to like the tournament or, and just like the game in general, I am very happy with how champions has turned out thus far.
Speaker: It seems like it has reduced the entry level for Pokemon significantly. To the point where you don't even need a Switch anymore to compete. You can compete on mobile. the There are three things I have written in notes here about what I would like to see added to Pokemon Champions.
Speaker: I know a lot of singles players are disappointed that their format is limited to bring three and they don't have their hour-long timer to have massive switching mind games. That has never appealed to me even slightly. But I do understand the the want for customizing your battle options more, so you can at least for fun against friends play with your custom rule sets.
Speaker: That is something I'd like to see. Something interesting, I'd say, is unlikely, but they could add triple or rotation battles or both to the game yes in some capacity. i know a lot of people did enjoy those.
Speaker: And then we're going back ah so the one main thing for different tournaments they could do is if they added an open team sheet graphic and people could, through champions, get practice in an open team sheet format rather than exclusively that being limited to in-person events.
Speaker: And I myself have all of my Pokemon in Pokemon Home, so I don't have an issue with building teams just completely new.
Speaker: i don't know how accessible the game is to people without access to a very full home. I'm not sure how acquiring different Pokemon, especially legendaries, once we get to that point, will work with the ranch.
Speaker: Yeah, it'll definitely be interesting. Is there anything else you want to add about Pokemon worlds, Pokemon in general, before we head into the bonus level here?
Speaker: I think we're good. I'm cautiously optimistic for the future. Well, with that, it's time to start closing things out and head on into the bonus level.
Speaker: Crazy lists, great deals, and recapping gaming history. It's all here in the bonus level. And kicking it off, we've got game clash. This is our small little tournament that we have a different theme of every week, uh, where our guest gets to pick the winner of the tournament, uh, through a random bracket generation. And today's theme, uh, he's been addicted to this game ever since I, I created the monster that is six is neon white career.
Speaker: um And our theme today is the neon white soul cards. So six, are you ready? I am ready. All right. Match one, Godspeed versus the Book of Life.
Speaker: Godspeed is a very, very good card, but unfortunately, Book of Life clears. Yeah. Match two, Purify versus Elevate.
Speaker: This one's a close one. I do like the versatility of Elevate, being able to use it in the air rather than requiring a surface to place your discard ability on.
Speaker: But Purify does have a lot of use. So i'm going to go with Purify. Okay. Match three, Fireball versus the Katana. Initially seeing this matchup, I was thinking, are we talking regular Katana or the discardable Katana in the Hell Rushes? Regular Katana. But that's that's just silly and Fireball is easily better.
Speaker: Dominion versus Stomp. Dominion easily. Okay. Semi-finals here. Book of Life versus Purify. Again, Book of Life clears. And Fireball versus Dominion.
Speaker: Dominion is the one that you can actually beat the entirety of the game with, with Mikey's Rush. I think Dominion is definitely a ah stronger card. Okay, finals, Book of Life versus Dominion.
Speaker: Now this one is tough because both are very good. One is reliant on demons being present in the level.
Speaker: The other one is reliant on ammo management surfaces and range for Dominion.
Speaker: I will have to say Book of Life. Okay, the Book of Life clears it, folks. I mean, it's like probably... i wish Neon White had like a level creator mode in it.
Speaker: And people could just make levels because I feel like they they could do so much shit with ah the book of life. If there's definitely a lot that could be done, I would be interested to see what the game would look like if they would let you run through it with just book of life the whole time and allow you to to skip demons rather than having to clear all of them in the level. Oh, yeah, that would i would actually be cool.
Speaker: i would I would totally pick up the game again for that update. There would definitely be some very fast routes you could accomplish. Yes, absolutely. ah Moving on to this week in gaming history, here's what happened in the past from September 14th to 27th. Starting with major events, on the 15th and 2010, Sony released the PlayStation Move motion sensing system for the PlayStation 3 in the US and Europe.

Speaker: Lots of old games. ah Moving on to Tony's Game Poll, our seasonal poll that we've ah that we put in place every season. Sixth. What sport should Mario play next that he hasn't played already?
Speaker: Looking at the list, there's not a lot of options left. i I wrote down football slash rugby because i couldn't think of anything else that would not be too similar to existing sports. Like cricket is too similar to baseball. Ping pong and pickleball are too similar to tennis.
Speaker: Yeah, football is like the big one and football is a valid answer. Rugby, i believe, has been done in the Olympic Games. Oh, okay. Yeah.
Speaker: So, but football, they still haven't done. So Mario, Mario's good. Tackle, uh, Luigi to the ground and break his, uh, break his bone. Luigi came out the field with a torn Achilles. Yeah.

Speaker: Your achievement of the week is in hot wheels, infinite rush. I'm in charge, which is to complete the career mode and your game of the week is control residence. And six, if there was a game old or new that you would recommend to the audience right now, what game would that be?
Speaker: Ah, recommend to the audience. I misunderstood. but Because I had game recommendations for you. i mean, I'll hear both. Well, for the audience, if you haven't played, Hollow Knight is a very, very good game.
Speaker: ah For Tony. Yes. I believe in you. You can do it. Pantheon of Hallownest. Oh, God. Complete the game.
Speaker: But I have completed the game. Complete it properly. don't know. You can do it. I believe in And then the other recommendation I had, I'm shocked you haven't up to this point, and we have talked about it quite a bit up to this point. You are a PlayStation head.
Speaker: Play Uncharted. i am i I'll get there. It's a very good series of games. I've heard nothing but good things and I will. like They will be played. It's just a matter of when.
Speaker: Yeah. ah With that, that does it for another week here in the Game Lounge 6. Thank you for coming on. I'm happy to be here. Where can we find you on the internet?
