Speaker: Welcome to Tony's Game Lounge, a biweekly podcast that covers everything in the world of video games, TCG, tabletop and more. Here's your host, Tony 14. Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another brand new episode of the Tony's Game Lounge podcast. I am your host, as always, Tony 14, and joining us this week, one of the newest members of the Game Lounge crew. You might have seen him take part in the current event that we have going on, the Game Lounge Summer Olympics.
Speaker: He is also a VTuber, Twitch affiliate and streamer. We are joined by Brisky Brisket. Hey, what's up, Tony? Thank you for having me on the show today. are we doing? I'm doing great, Brisky. How are you doing? Welcome to the podcast.
Speaker: I'm doing wonderful. And for all your listeners, ah if you saw the battle golf tournament, I was the one that was decimating that. Yeah, you you did very well in the Battle Golf. You've been doing... Actually, I always got a look at the standings when it comes to the the event, ah because your team...
Speaker: is in the lead right now. Really? Team Final Brain Cell is in the lead by two points at the time of recording this. ah That might change, obviously, as between recording and the episode release, ah the Street Fighter 2 event will be taking place. So that may change in a heartbeat.
Speaker: ah But ah it's ah you guys are only two points ahead of the Team Rocket Men. ah and are slated as to to definitely take podium by the time the event the of Olympics end, most likely, if you play keep playing consistently.
Speaker: Given the last couple of events coming up, I'm pretty confident. I'm just not confident in a Street Fighter and Yu-Gi-Oh, because I haven't touched Yu-Gi-Oh since I was like eight. like I think the last time I played Yu-Gi-Oh is when the movie came out. Oh, the the Pyramid of Light movie, right? Yeah, with Anubis and stuff. Yeah.
Speaker: No, that's it's it's been at least a couple of Definitely. OK, well, since you're new here, Brisky, we get to start off with the loading screen where you get to give us your favorite video game, video game character and video game soundtrack.
Speaker: All right, well, that's actually pretty easy for me because ah I don't know if this is a basic or not, but ah my favorite video game of all time, 90% of the time say Terraria, but I just Infamous 2 for the PlayStation 3 will always have a special place in my heart because like Cole McGrath just engaged me so much. I love the world. I love the concepts.
Speaker: Infamous 2 is probably my favorite game. It was my first platinum. Oh, nice. ah Favorite video game character, ah David, solid snake, the the solid snake, not snakes dad, even though snakes, that's great. But the main snake.
Speaker: Gotcha. ah OST, probably Metal Gear Rising just because there's so many bangers in that one. Yes, absolutely. Like even the ambient slaps. I don't listen. I've never really listened to much of the ambience because, you know, whenever you see anything familiar, youre rising evolving a soundtrack is just one of the lyric lyricized songs.
Speaker: Yeah, because I think there's 12 of them and they're all just great. Yes. And yes, they are. Here's one that is either go to be really divisive or really not. I've gotten horrifically mixed signals on this.
Speaker: My hot take. Yes. What is your video game hot take? I despise Monster Hunter. Whoa, despise. I have i find no joy in it. I think it is so boring.
Speaker: I feel like there's no feedback. I feel like I'm just slapping like a cardboard cutout of a critter. And then it's like, oh, it died now. It's like, man, I didn't even know it was low. all right. Or it just waddles into the darkness and it's like, oh, it got away. You got to find it again.
Speaker: Just nothing about it. except once I like one thing. I think the Palicas are very funny.
Speaker: o Ah, good old Palicos. ah Which Monster Hunter or Hunters have you played? World. I put 70 hours in Monster Hunter World. Okay.
Speaker: So I gave it a good, honest try. That is a very honest try for more like essentially one of the more popular games in the franchise. And the only thing i really took from that game is apparently I fell for a noob trap of using the insect glaive, which will probably lead to ah my lack of feedback reaction.
Speaker: i but then I switched to like, I think it was sword and shield. And like I tried the ah I think there's a gun or a bow or something. Dunlance, Gunlance, I think it is. OK, I've never played a Monster Hunter, so I like I don't I do not know much on the subject aside from Rathalos.
Speaker: Oh, the big dragon. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Everybody but likes to be fair. I think any outsider really knows Ravalos. I think it's like the most iconic monster in the entire franchise.
Speaker: Probably. But ah the the biggest thing I did in that game was i played enough to get my Palico, my little cat guy. i got him a like a winter parka. I'm like, all right, I won the game. I'm done.
Speaker: Damn, you didn't even get to the FF 14 collaboration with the game. Wow. i didn't even know it had collabs. Yeah, there was a collab with FF 14, the Monster Underworld where you fight a behemoth.
Speaker: And then, of course, when Wilds came out, people were like, it was like kind of like inevitable that there was going to be another collaboration with f f fourteen ah because FF Because FF14, when the both collabs happened in the first collab, which was was around the Stormblood expansion, we got to fight Rathalos in FF14 and then we fight Arnveld with the new one.
Speaker: And then we sent Omega to Monster Hunter. And I'm infinitely more interested in people taking stuff from Monster Hunter and putting into other games than I am putting stuff into Monster Hunter. Yeah, the only other collab that I know about, but it's more like just not really a collab and more just like the, you know, the original Fortnite was like Rathalos and Smash Bros. Yeah. Yep. Yep.
Speaker: That's it and it's not a bad hot take because at least you put the hours in to like come to that conclusion. Yeah. People can never say, oh, give it another try, because I'm like, I've put more hours into this than i could play the entire Black Ops saga, all eight games and still have like ten hours to spare.
Speaker: with how much time I put in that goddamn game. Yeah, fair. Would you ever like consider playing like Rise, Monster Hunter Rise or any of the story games for Monster Hunter? ah Not really, because like the world doesn't even interest me that much. so It's just like, OK, there's nothing like the X factor is we have monsters and you can make stuff out of them. Like, OK, that's kind of cool.
Speaker: If I want to kill cool monsters, I'm going to go to like Dark Souls or like literally anything like Borderlands that I know it's not you know fantasy, but like I could just blow up like ah a giant tube worm and have a disco party.
Speaker: Yeah, you can. yeah I've done that before. It's pretty. It's pretty poggers. Probably not going to touch the game again. i It's just not me. And that's you know what? That's fair.
Speaker: Not every franchise will be for every person. Well, with that, it's now time for us to get into our headline of the week. And speaking of Final Fantasy XIV, FanFest happened. The EU Berlin FanFest happened at FFXIV. And, you know, it was mostly a lot of like...
Speaker: rehashing a lot of things. There were a couple of new things talked about. One major thing, and let's we'll get into that first. We got our extended trailer, not the full complete trailer, but the extended trailer for the Evercold expansion. And I just love this trailer so much. It's so good. The song is great. It looks, a city and drop kicks a fucking Nordic robot. It's it's great.
Speaker: Trailer adds Yoshi P walks out on stage wearing the brand new class armor and weapons, dual gun shields, which is very exciting because we have not seen a character or anything regarding dual gun shields in FF 14 since the end of a realm of board when we fight for Titans, that's our Vena.
Speaker: And ah we got the new job name. It's called bash gin and it is going to be taking a main tank role because whatever gold gets implemented tanks are gonna be like divided into like so main tanks and sub tanks or off tanks of like which ones are like meant to be main tanks and like eight man raids and shit so bastion uh really cool uh the skilt borgs are the proper name of the gun shields but we'll just call them gun shields because it's easier to say We do not know what the new range, the DPS is. However, the theory that it was going to be like a buccaneer or what Merle Whibb has with her gun, i think that's out the window as it might be a Falconer that we actually get where it's you control a Falcon and they do stuff from a range.
Speaker: So that's potentially what it is. We still don't actually know. but like It's more mystery of what the second new class is going to be. We did get some new details on the areas, or at least five of the six areas that we'll be going to within the expansion. ah The Great Realm Ships, the five Great Realm Ships. And they showed off two of them. Nagelphar, the Realm Ship of Water, ah where we got to see, like, basically each ship will take a theme of one of the five, five of the six main elements. So there's going to be water, fire, earth, lightning, and...
Speaker: Wind, since the land below is full of ice and ever cold. That's where the ice element falls into play with this expansion. ah so we haven't seen anything regarding that yet, though. And we also got to see Falgathar. Falgather? which is a player city on the realm ship of water and then Hringhorny, the realm ship of fire.
Speaker: I probably that's probably not how you pronounce it, but like I'm just trying my best here with that Nordic language, you know, was going to what did you call the fire one? Ring horny? Ring horny?
Speaker: yeah i really hope it's not called that. I really hope it's ring horny and not ring horny because, man, everybody's good. That means bow that means the fucking quicksands Balmung is going have competition for where people ERP. God damn. Oh, God, no.
Speaker: We are getting some and MSQ fields and game system updates. ah There will be new a new branching path MSQ system where unlike in previous expansions where there's like, hey, there's a small branching path where you'll either do this area or this area first. They're now making that a bit more frequent.
Speaker: and it's gonna like with like main areas that will have dungeons and stuff so you'll pick like what you'll have to do all of the paths but you can do them in any order and it'll level sync to your areas so it's gonna be interesting to see how that like fully works and how those dungeons are gonna be done like because obviously dungeons have to with how dungeons have been with the game they're all like set to a specific level but with this new thing that they're promising uh they're saying that these dungeons can be done at any level so I think I have an idea how they might do it, where it's like, if once you complete all these dungeons within these areas, instead of it having a set level, it'll be like a level range that they'll appear in with the duty finder or whatever afterwards. But the only time will tell with that. It will most likely be getting a lot more details with the Japan Fan Fest come September.
Speaker: They recapped Briefly, the weekly system for 8.0. They'll be going into a lot more details when they're in Tokyo. Same with the evolved mode and reborn mode for all the classes.
Speaker: ah They did tease character action skins for new animations for attacks, teleports, and more. They said that this way they'll be able to bring like old actions that ah maybe got cut from like different patches and updates. They might be able to bring them back as certain animations for other attacks.
Speaker: ah Once 8.0 does release, general actions such as your teleport and some other things, maybe your running animation and other things, will be set for 8.0 and job actions will not get added until 8.1. More stuff for the improved character creator, nose markings for Vieira and Lala Fells will be changing in 8.1. You'll be able to change those. Our ah horns will be interchangeable finally and the Makote Warface paint can be turned on and off as well.
Speaker: Koji Fox made a joke about the butt slider. ah Whether or not it's going happen, we still don't know. The World Raid series was talked about. They're going to plan to try to do Eureka-style content out in the open world. So whether that means it's like critical engagements out in the open world instead of just only fates, that would be cool, but like there we still don't know a lot details about that. Yeah.
Speaker: They're adding a new, I guess, more in-depth auto run to make it auto travel. So you can just set the quest you want to travel to. It'll take you there automatically without having to move yourself.
Speaker: We got like a a short new trailer for the Evangelion Alliance raid, but we'll be getting more details on that come Tokyo fan test because they'll probably actually bring the creative director of Evangelion in on that.
Speaker: on that stage realistically if I was a betting man. ah But we get information on the eight man raid series. First, we're going be getting a new tier in the eight man raid series between a normal and savage as it we learned that like only 16% of players actually ever clear savage.
Speaker: ah what it's like current content. So they're adding in-between difficulty now, ah starting with the new one. So that's not too bad.
Speaker: And then ah we got the raid theme. It's Final Fantasy VII Remake! Uh, we are getting the eight man rate series based off of FF seven. It's called beyond the life stream. is being directed by Hamaguchi son, the director of the remake trilogy, and, uh, they will be available starting in 8.01, uh, just like they usually do. So my best bet is it's going to be four bosses from remake rebirth and revelation.
Speaker: Uh, Do you reckon that you'll have to fight a like angel form Sephiroth and like a that? Oh, but I want to. This isephphaathth is Sephiroth is finally to be put into FF seven. FF 14. We are finally going to see Sephiroth in FF 14. I'm excited for that. I'm very excited. like I'm not even a Final Fantasy guy, but I know a lot about seven just to rosmosis and man Sephiroth cool as hell. I love that guy.
Speaker: We did get some new dungeon screenshots, new gear screenshots, some news on the same region. Party Finder, they are testing that feature in Japan come October. And then once that testing period is over, it will finally release worldwide for North America and European data centers as well. So we most likely won't actually see it implemented until like 8.0 or 8.1.
Speaker: ah realistically ah duty support is getting another update. Chocobo companions are getting overhauled because now you'll be able to bring your Chocobo into dungeons with you. So you could do a team of two players and two Chocobos. If you wanted Chocobo breeding is getting overhauled and all of these updates will start 8.1 and 8.2 content updates.
Speaker: 7.56 will be releasing September eighth And there's going to gold saucer update attached to that, which you will be releasing October 28th out of a new mini game, Keybound Brawler, a typing mini game themed after FF7.
Speaker: And they are putting behind Barrett and Tifa glams as rewards for this. So now every cat girl in Neorzea can look like Tifa. The Switch 2 version of MF14 releases August 4th. Pre-orders are open now. The collector's edition of Evercold was also revealed. The physical edition comes with a box with the Meteor, the player character, in his Reaper form, a Reaper statue, an Athos keychain, Athos being the key that is going to take us to the fourth. One of those cat person, the the new cat people, beast tribe key chain. And then the digital items that are tied to it are a new mount. It's FF 13 Odin, ah the horse that turns into Odin. The Entreat Crystal Emote and a Crystal Skiltborg as well are the digital items that you can get, um which I'm going to get because I want that goddamn mount.
Speaker: FanFest Tokyo happens October 31st and November 1st. And then also there was a Beastmaster live letter, which gave us a few more details um as well. You must have Dawn Trail finish a Realm Reborn. The level cap for the class is 50.
Speaker: I really went into like a lot of like the the combat with the class. If you really want to look into that, to definitely check that out. We did get some more info on the Crucible of the Unbroken. it Turns out every beast levels up as well. It has their own experience to gain. They have an alternate skin that unlocks at rank 25. Completing all the basic stages in the Crucible of the Unbroken will unlock two more difficulties.
Speaker: And if you clear the third difficulty that you can get put in for ranked content ah within the Crucible of the Unbroken. And there's a giant gem golem that seems to be a mount reward for high ranked for placing high in the rankings.
Speaker: And that was ah mostly everything that happened from the announcements at EU FanFest. Any thoughts on that, Brisky? ah In particular, I'm really excited to hear about like what the new class is going to be like.
Speaker: Do we because the word gun to me at least invokes, you know, DPS? Yes, we like. Well, here's the thing. We know it's a range DPS, but that's really all we know now. The theory was because of the original North American Fan Fest that happened this year. Yoshi P, he likes to hit things by T-shirts he's wearing.
Speaker: So when he came out ah Last before Dawn Trail came out, he wore a shirt with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and it represented both classes. ah leonard Because Leonardo's there, ah Leonardo wielding the two swords that represented the Viper class.
Speaker: And then because all of the Ninja Turtles are named after famous painters that represented Pictomancer.
Speaker: Yeah, I know. It's crazy shit. I hope this is all just pure coincidence. He just wears like... No, he does it on purpose. He does it on purpose. cool It's a way that for him to tease to us what's being planned. So when he came out in the North American FanFest this year and he came out with a shirt that just had a Titan Sass Arvina on it, it's like, oh, that's most likely the tank class that we're getting is gun shields. And we were right about that. But...
Speaker: And they said, oh, yeah, we're kind of like sticking to the roots of like original FF 14 classes. It's like, oh does that mean the range DPS class that we're getting then is going to be that Buccaneer class that ah Merle Whibb, one of the leaders of the Arromba Bourne cities, ah uses because like no other class uses just a single gun.
Speaker: like machinist kind of uses like two guns based ah kind of, and also like just other machinery at his disposal instead of just guns. who ah so okay it's uh the question now relies of like is that gonna be what happens still or with the new trailer there was a falcon in it with a girl you like kind of like using the falcon so it's like is falconer gonna be the other class then we don't we don't know now it's kind of like up in the air so that that's that's what it is with that now and i'm personally excited to hear like um
Speaker: And because Final Fantasy 14 has some really good music for like, yes, play while you're like doing D&D or whatever. Yes. And so I'm excited for like some of the re if they do any reworked or remastered songs for this expansion.
Speaker: Yeah, that's a good question because we don't really know because usually ah there's like a lot of like inspiration from the other expansions from like the other Final Fantasy games within each expansion. Maybe we'll see some like it's ah it's hard to say like the the the the fact that the pre-release bonus is an FF 13 reference. Maybe we're going to see some FF 13 references in this one and been inspired by 13.
Speaker: f f thirteen But this one's really hard to say, especially with it being a lot more like Nordic themed this time around. Oh, and also one other thing, everybody's favorite voice actor, Ben Starr, did tweet potentially that he is voicing a major character with within the Evercold expansion.
Speaker: So that's another possible. Another thing that's finally might be happening is Ben Starr in FF14. Wow. So I'm very excited for that. As a Ben Starr simp, I am excited for that.
Speaker: ah forgive me give you a li can you give me a character he's played because i'm i'm searching my mind palace i'm struggling right now final fantasy 16 clive claire obscure expedition 33's verso who else has he voiced uh he voices somebody in celasta 2 oh god who else has he voiced shit uh he has other voices that he's done I know I've heard the name before, but i just can't find him in my mind. I'm like, he he's been in something I like. And I know that for a fact because he's he's in a bunch of. Oh, he's in Hades, too. That's he's the fucking. um buts Yeah, he's Prometheus.
Speaker: OK, that's why we we're. Oh, dude, I know why. do he's Yeah, he's Dorian. He's Dorian and did everything. That's why I know who he is. Yeah. but ah Yeah.
Speaker: I'm like who's first so i haven't I haven't played Expedition in a minute
Speaker: um but yeah that's ah that was the FFXIV FanFest and now on to everything else that happened in the last two weeks ah here let's get it into the week in review Recapping the major stories of video games and the world of tabletop, looking over recent releases and reports from the Game Lounge crew, it's the week in review.
Speaker: sort off some of like major games that came out these past two weeks avatar legends the fighting game is now out platoon raiders released halo campaign evolved Truck Coon is supporting me from another world.
Speaker: Dino Blade and Shard Squad. Okay, so Truck Coon is supporting me from another world. I played this. I actually just finished the game a couple days ago now. The game...
Speaker: How do I describe this? So you drive a truck, right? Okay. And in the prologue of the game, you kill a woman because you hit her with a truck. That meme. Okay. Okay. And she gets isekai'd.
Speaker: However, she has the ability to talk to, you know, talk to other people back in our world. And she specifically targets us because, you know, we hit her. We killed her. So... so Okay. Okay.
Speaker: She wants to cheat the system and get back to the real world. So she has to gain these things called star points. And order to get that, she has to kill monsters. And we also have to help her.
Speaker: So by running over people in the real world, we send them to her world as monsters to kill. And by running over objects in the real world, we give her power up power to use her special attack. Combine that with a bunch of like wild, wacky tasks for us to do and you get Truck Coon is supporting me from another world. Huh, fair enough. All right. It is a wild, wacky arcade arcade fun. See, there's a couple of games on here I'm pretty interested in because like I had i just haven't like been, ah I didn't have an Xbox growing up, so I'm interested in the Halo remaster to get some modern Halo in my blood, see how that feels.
Speaker: I can tell you this from everything I've heard about campaign of all I've heard nothing but great things. And as a guy who despise who doesn't that despise who doesn't like the first Halo ah because of how stiff the controls so are, it's a much needed it's a much needed remake. People love their old games, but even some old games are like, man, I love Dark Souls one, but having a four directional role feels horrid.
Speaker: Oh, I bet Jesus. See, i'm I'm very intrigued by the Avatar fighting game as well, because that's just such a I'm glad Avatar is getting a bit of a resurgence because I've always enjoyed the series. I didn't watch Korra. I was just I wasn't really watching shows at that time. So no, no hate, no love for the Korra stuff. It's it's just Korra. But like OG avatar crew fucking Zuko slinging fireballs, Azula going crazy. I'm so into this fighting game. looks It looks so fun. Nice. Yeah, no, it looks a lot of fun. It looks pretty good. I've heard a lot of people say really good things in the fighting game community. So excited to see what more that game will bring.
Speaker: Moving on to the video game news, starting off Santa Monica Studio and PlayStation Studios have confirmed a release date for God of War La Fae. It is set for February 16th, 2027, just making February an even more stacked month than it already is.
Speaker: See, I'm super excited for that, mostly because it's coming out soon and Santa Monica Studio just knocks out of the park so often. They do. They really do. Also with God of War, Cory Balrog, the game director at Santa Monica Studios for God of War, announced at San Diego Comic Con that they're developing another game in the action-adventure franchise that will star Kratos. That isn't the remake of the trilogy.
Speaker: So a third game within the Norse trilogy is. I would love that. Very nice. Very, very nice to hear that that it is to be a trilogy. So very excited to see that in delayment news to Raider Catalyst is being delayed to 2028 with some more Halo news. The Halo campaign of the new alternate ending has teased that Halo 2 campaign evolved is in the works.
Speaker: So get ready for that whenever they actually make a proper announcement about that. If they make a proper announcement about that. When it comes to ah like remasters and stuff, I'm always curious because like, you know, Halo one and two came out a billion years ago. So like, yeah, the game remakes is understandable, but like What's the most recent game they could remake and nobody would be like, hey, isn't that kind of soon? i would say Halo 3.
Speaker: And the only reason I say that is because Halo 1, 2 and 3 were all done entirely by Bungie. Now that this is not Bungie anymore and it's Halo Studios, formerly 343 Industries, it makes sense if they were to do the original Halo trilogy ah with the remix.
Speaker: OK, because I was wondering because I was thinking like, You know, because, for example, Call of Duty, we've remastered the entire Modern Warfare saga, but all the Modern Warfare games are already like accessible. So I thought they were kind of a redundant remasters. You see, that's the thing with the Modern Warfare remasters, though, is like they're remasters, but they also tell like a slightly different story because it's not the exact same.
Speaker: Which makes the name confusing. Yeah. Oh, no, it definitely does. And they're also going into like a modern... Aren't they going into a Modern Warfare 4? I don't know. Or is it it the 3? No.
Speaker: I think they're going into 4? Yeah. The thing that irks me is um because... All Call of Duty is now just mushing together into a disgusting Play-Doh of like homogenized cod content.
Speaker: Yeah, because if I'm not mistaken, in the most modern cod zombies, ah soap makes an appearance. I'm like, oh, so we you can't do that. You know, it's supposed to be. Oh, God, it it's getting weird in Zombieland.
Speaker: Damn. 007 First Light's first update has released, adding two new missions to the TAC sim mode. Oh, Xbox released for backwards compatible games on PC Blinks, Fusion Frenzy, Crimson Skies and Conker Live and Reloaded. Data miners found that the tech needed to enable the original Xbox 360 games to run PC is basically already up and running, leading to theories that more Xbox games will release on PC through this backwards compatibility function. Dude, we can't stop losing, dude, because that's you know that's amazing news.
Speaker: it is so hopefully we see Xbox do more with that as well because that would be sick ah because if they do that hey they can make Fable 2 and 3 backwards compatible and put them on fucking PC because only Fable 1 is on PC yes please I want that in my life Pokemon the Indigo League, the original series of the anime is going start streaming on Hulu and Disney Plus on August 7th. you now have more places to watch the original ah anime.
Speaker: Oh my God. Arc System Works and Sony Interactive Entertainment gave some new updates on Marvel Toka to Fighting Souls, including confirmation of the game's first DLC character, which will be available fall 2026. It is phoenix cyclops ah which is the evil version of Cyclops controlled by Phoenix.
Speaker: So so very cool. That's that's really cool. Like I'm a huge fan for of Arc systems. I think they do great stuff. I grew up in a lot of BlazBlue, so I'm I'm super excited to see more of like Marvel token stuff.
Speaker: In EA news, Saudi Arabia's public investment fund, the PIF, just got one step closer to acquiring EA in the massive $55 billion dollar deal.
Speaker: The European Commission approved the PIF's purchase of EA under the EU merger regulation, arguing that it doesn't warrant competition concerns.
Speaker: you be Yeah. yeah Yeah. Again, if you have any morals and you're with like an EA partner program, get out.
Speaker: Just get get out now. Dragon Ball Sparking Zero's major DLC Super Limit Breaking Neo is out now, adding new attacks, stages, and more than 30 characters to the game.
Speaker: ah The existing episode battle mode, which acts as Sparking Zero's story mode, will also be expanded. Ura, Yamcha, Krillin, and Tien are getting their own episode battles, as well as Cell.
Speaker: What? Okay, I'm excited for that. i love me some DBZ dude. Yacht Club Games has teamed up with the boutique merch creators over at I Am 8-Bit to produce a trio of merchandise items for Mina the Hollower.
Speaker: ah These include a multi-disc vinyl soundtrack, an elaborately decorated notebook inspired by Mina's journal, and an assortment of wide box keychains.
Speaker: And you can, there is like an option to just buy all the key chains in a single ah purchase as well. So you don't have to just get blind boxes and pray. Good. In Steam news, non-Steam users can now purchase individual games as gifts with a new Steam update.
Speaker: as As the recipient, you can share a link to your wish list with a non-Steam user. Alternatively, when buying a game as a gift, if you don't have Steam, ah you just need to know the email address of the Steam account that you wish to send it to. So if you need games, if you want games for Christmas,
Speaker: give your parents your steam email and just help walk them through the process of that. Additionally, cross region gifting will now calculate the price of a game in your friend's region before you get it to them.
Speaker: Now, whether that means you can purchase games that are on sale for games in different regions, If that applies to this, then that's great because that's been like the the one limiting factor when it comes to gifting games. If you're not from the same region and it's because of that price difference. But if they'll calculate that now, and that's kind of nice.
Speaker: This is another major W for just gamers right now that this is going to be so nice yeah because I remember a couple of years back when you had to be friends with somebody for like like two weeks before you could send them a gift. Oh,
Speaker: Yeah, and that got bamfed out around COVID, I think, approximately. That makes sense. And now yeah there's no time. We say, like oh, you're friends. You can send gifts.
Speaker: And it's just they're just streamlining Steam ever so slightly. And it's just it's getting so nice. It really is. like They're doing a good job with that. Blizzcon has been set for September 12th and 13th, and ahead of the events, they announced the Blizzcon 2026 skin bundles or their various games. Tickets to the events are already sold out. So you can't go to Blizzcon if yeah if yeah you're just here about it now.
Speaker: Too bad. Blizzcon is so fascinating to me because Blizzard just they have like what, six major franchises and oh, I love me some Blizzard stuff.
Speaker: I just I wish Overwatch wasn't so big for them because I just I don't care about Overwatch anymore, man. i just love seeing BlizzCon. It's like, oh, boy, how are they going to shoot themselves in the foot this time?
Speaker: do you Do you guys not own phones? God, yeah yeah i One of my this isn't a hot take. This is my regular take. I hate Blizzard. I despise Blizzard so much.
Speaker: I hate everything that they are. And it's why I like do not play any games from Blizzard. completely valid and understandable because blizzards like a wretched company. Like I think the, the turning point for me was, I believe it was a overwatch tournament where a, a guy who named may said a free Hong Kong and he got like all his earnings taken away by blizzard. Yeah. that's Banned from competing. I'm like, Oh my God. really
Speaker: And like Blizzard, my dude, oh buddy. Jesus Christ. This is years ago. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: Again, i just don't like Blizzard. Various reasons why. Not much to like anymore. not much There isn't much to like. and Microsoft owns them. Yeah. it's like It's like Microsoft, you really could have...
Speaker: not done that you know Microsoft just loves acquiring and holding on to franchises though dude oh not anymore not anymore phil that was a Phil Spencer thing honestly I think as time has come and like with the most recent stuff that's come out with Xbox it's like oh Xbox really likes this no Phil Spencer really liked it true because like who's her name Asha Sharma Asha Sharma because like I feel like she is speed running all these good choices for um for Xbox because i don't I feel like she's speed running it that way. When the next person comes in, it'll take them a long time to fuck it up. Yeah.
Speaker: Honestly, yeah. Hasbro and Nintendo announced a collaboration for a new line of six inch action figures based off the Legend Zelda characters. Listings for Link, Zelda and Ganondorf are all live on the Hasbro Pulse website, all based on their years of the kingdom designs. The news release stated that this is a multi-year collaboration between the two companies. So presumably many toys are on the way.
Speaker: Red Hook Studios has announced a new DLC for Darkest Dungeon, not the sequel, the original game. The Fire's Edge will be the first major content update the horror roguelike has seen in six years. The DLC is set for August 18th, just over 10 years after it's the game's initial launch.
Speaker: See, I'm so insanely excited for this ah this DLC because Darkest Dungeon 2 amazing game, truly a phenomenal experience. But the first game just does everything perfectly and backporting the two really incredible characters from the sequel to the original.
Speaker: I think it's a great idea. Also, that's what the DLC is. It's a backport of some of the characters. Yes, the DLC, as far as I'm aware, will contain ah six trinkets and two new heroes. The runaway, the fire branding orphan named Bonnie and the duelist, the stance dancing position swapping character whose name I don't know.
Speaker: Nice. Yeah, we're going to be getting some content. I hope they get um some crimson court trinkets because it'd be weird to port characters back and not give them the full sweep of trinkets.
Speaker: I'm hopeful, but I have seen some rumblings in the community that the community is actually mad about this because it's been six years with no content because of the sequel.
Speaker: And the only new content is, you know, content from the other game. And it's going to bork all the mods for like eight months. Oh, And the Darkest Dungeon modding community is super devoted.
Speaker: That's fair. You know what? Yeah, that'll make sense of why there's a little bit of like ah a little bit of her. How dare they? see i see it as a net positive because, you know, it definitely is. People didn't cry tears of blood when ah we got the bad DLC, The Butcher's Circus.
Speaker: oh So lightning quick lore for you, Tony, my friend. Yes, please fill me in because I know very little about Darkest Dungeon. ah The DLC that your docket is referring to is ah six years ago. They got DLC during COVID. Gotcha. They were on April Fool's Day. They released a really shitty Photoshop of like...
Speaker: ah The characters fighting is like, fight your friends. PvP shed the blood. It looked terrible. It was clearly a shit post. Aha. Then April 2nd, they revealed the real poster.
Speaker: And they made a Darkest Dungeon has a PvP mode. You can fight your friends in Darkest Dungeon. And it's been there for six years, over half the game's life.
Speaker: And I've never touched it. Oh, because I don't come to Darkest Dungeon to fist fight my friends. I come to Darkest Dungeon to ah make mad bank and lose hundreds of heroes to the ever encroaching darkness.
Speaker: Fair enough. But I'm excited for the DLC. Modders are going to be sad. But like, guys, it's more content for one of our favorite games. So show it some love that you should. ah DC announced this brand new fighting game. And no, it is not Injustice 3.
Speaker: It's called DC KO and it's a mobile game set for 2027. However, the Internet is calling it DECO. So it's time to go Dicco mode. Finally. oh It's a 2v2 tag fighter with online multiplayer and single player modes. So look look forward to go Dicco mode in the DC KO 2027. See, my issue with that is had the same reaction as when Diablo fans got Diablo Immortal announced where it's
Speaker: Oh, it's a mobile game. I don't play mobile games. Don't you have phones? I do have a phone and my phone is six years old and gets hot if i leave it running for five minutes. I don't think I can play a legally distinct injustice. Yeah, nope.
Speaker: Ubisoft is playing catch up with leaks concerning its games once again. ah The company has told fans to expect new announcements about the Ghost Recon franchise next month on the series 25th anniversary. It's reported that a definitive edition of Ghost Recon Wildlands is is planned for release on PS5 and Series X. Leaks indicate the updated version will include a new mission.
Speaker: ah They'll be addressing whether or not these leaks are real or not on the 6th of August. So later this week, if you're listening to this on the Monday, Kingdom Hearts has some news.
Speaker: Kingdom Hearts Missing Link, the canceled mobile game, had its cinematic intro cutscene leaked. And it's now out there and oh my God, it's super cool. What the fuck?
Speaker: Shame that game is not coming out of unless it's being made for console. So who knows? But in the last like seven years, Kingdom Hearts fans have been even good. ah ah so yeah. the Well, OK, let me rephrase that seven years.
Speaker: i I mean, like, yes, you consider Melody of Memory being eating good. Sure. Well, I more so mean, number one, of all the Kingdom Hearts games have been are now more accessible than they've ever been. i mean, OK, yes.
Speaker: So that's huge. Kingdom Hearts 3 finally came out. And whether you like it or not, most games can't live up to 12 years of waiting, to be fair. I liked it. I didn't play. i i I haven't played. I never beat Kingdom Hearts one because I was too young. I just didn't understand how the game worked. I just walked over around Traverse Town for 900 hours. That's fair. But yeah, Kingdom Hearts fans, I like them.
Speaker: All right. ah The director of Marathon, Joe Ziegler, announced that he has left Bungie. Eclipse Globe Games has announced that Jennifer English will no longer star in Tides of Annihilation. ah The reason is due to personal health reasons, which makes sense. She's kind of been going hard on games for like a good while. That is like, you know what makes sense? Take some time to yourself, girl. Chill.
Speaker: Z-A-U-M has announced a round of layoffs after the studio's latest game, Zero Parades for Dead Spies, performed to perform commercially. The studio, best known for Disco Elysium, the 2019 narrative role-playing game, has served redundancy at a risk at an at-risk notices to 32 employees across all their departments. Unfortunate to see that because Disco Elysium was a very well-received game, and it's a shame that their new game didn't do that well.
Speaker: isn't these Isn't Disco Elysium like a super duper mega like cult classic right now? Like isn't like a modern classic? Yes. See, I knew they were making a new game. i didn't even know it. I didn't know it came out. Nobody talked about it. It's been out for a while. I mean, we talked about it here.
Speaker: I guess you just been going to the wrong sources there, Brisky. I don't think I knew you when the game came out. Truthfully, I don't think we knew each other. I was going to say. I don't think we actually knew each other so like at that at that time. So you know what? That is fair.
Speaker: But still, you know be curious. Go on the internet and look for gaming podcasts. We're like we like ah one of them. Todd. and you're really ah You're really selling me here. yeah hey i do I try my best. We were a podcast that is audible. it's like, yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, a vulnerability in Mecha Chameleon, which has already been patched, saw the game ah distribute malware to many players. That was really scary because we are still like at the overwhelming peak of like Mecha Chameleon. This is this is the friend game right now. Yeah, it's a good thing I do not have it because big yikes there. I've always had like a kind of like an underlying like worry about like, you know, the workshop in general, because this stuff could always happen. And I just either, you know, either Steam's good at catching it or just the fact that ah I don't know. I don't know how this hasn't happened more, but I'm glad this one got caught and fixed. Yeah, I know that is a good thing is that it did get fixed and it did get caught.
Speaker: A new movie trailer released for Zack Kreger's Resident Evil. The movie comes to theaters October 18th. This year? Oh my God. Yeah, I know. is It kind of just like the trailer kind of came out of nowhere. It's like, boom, new Resident Evil project being worked on and it's taking place in another version of Raccoon City.
Speaker: so Wow, more Raccoon City. I wonder if the hit character Leon Kennedy will show up. Maybe it's it's some pizza delivery guy. No, it's just a delivery driver, not a pizza delivery driver. he's just a delivery driver.
Speaker: Okay, i'm just I'm just glad it's not Leon, because again, as ah as a shameless Leon enjoyer, right? A shameless Leon enjoyer or a shirtless Leon enjoyer?
Speaker: Shameless, but like Leon has, he is now John resident evil for better, for worse. He is resident evil for the time being. Yes. Until the next game comes out and then it'll be Claire again.
Speaker: Probably. oh I mean, it's code Veronica that we're getting next. And we play as Claire. So it's going to be Claire. Oh, I'm more so mean like when you say resident evil, people will think of Leon, especially because it was, ah He got added to Dead by Daylight. he we got the RE4 and RE2 remakes in the modern recent memory.
Speaker: And he's in Requiem. Yeah. So like we are getting so much Leon. We are. We absolutely are. You know, we're not getting we're not getting Wesker's kid, Jake.
Speaker: I wonder if he's even alive in lore anymore. How's Jake doing? Wesker had a kid? What? Dude, Resident Evil 6, it's broken up into like three campaigns. Yeah, i know that much, and that's really all I know about 6. Jake, Wesker's kid, I don't know anything about the that other than he is the child of Wesker.
Speaker: He's a blonde, short-haired, starkey douchebag. Think Dante and... Yeah, just think Dante gotcha. And his gameplay is all about punching zombies in the face.
Speaker: Oh, cool. Wait. So wait, is he? Wait, he so wait, because I know that lee it's Leon and somebody it's Chris and somebody is Jake the third campaign. Yes, Jake is the third campaign. He has a lady friend who I don't know the name of.
Speaker: Interesting. Yeah, this is deep lore from ah like 2014. And i haven't seen Jake in a decade. And we probably won't.
Speaker: i mean, RE6 did really bad. I mean, from the I think they're trying to make Code Veronica the new RE5. So they're trying to like retcon like five and six, I think.
Speaker: See, I get that because five and six just weren't very good. And that's definitely where I say that Resident Evil kind of I feel like jump the shark is an appropriate term because r e four was silly and we just kept getting sillier until we were, you know, punching boulders and the mutant freak son of Wesker is out suplexing zombies through toilets and whatnot.
Speaker: Oh, hold on. That sounds amazing. Now you sold me on it now. Oh, no, it's S tier. It's S tier gameplay. It's not Resident Evil. It's much more Dead Rising.
Speaker: Oh, gotcha. Okay. That's fair. That's fair. Atari is in the news because they made a partnership with management and production company Entertainment 360. They signed a deal that gives Universal Pictures the right to turn 10 of Atari's best known games into movies.
Speaker: And those 10 games are Asteroids, Adventure, Berserk, Breakout, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Millipede, Missile Command, Yars' Revenge, and Pong.
Speaker: Okay, po Tony, is this a joke? No, no, no. You think we feel fake news on this fucking podcast? No, this is real. There's going to be a Pong movie. Now, granted, if I was a betting man, I would think that they would do the Pong movie very similarly similarly to how they did the Tetris movie.
Speaker: What? There was a Tetris movie? Yeah. And the Tetris movie was more about the story about how Tetris became the worldwide phenomenon that it did. That's interesting. Yeah. It was more about the story of how the guy who was able to bring Tetris to the Game Boy got the rights from it from the Russians. but Also, I'm sorry.
Speaker: Out of the out of a ten movies we just listed, the fact there's Centipede and Millipede feels redundant. yeah, it's like, ah, there's there's your duology right there. like i Also, how do you market a movie just called Adventure? Well, you can do it a lot of things in adventure. That one's more of like you could do a lot of things with that one because, you know, adventure really was there wasn't a lot of like depth to the game. It was more of just move screen to screen and hope you find something cool.
Speaker: Oh, no, it's not the contents, the name. I know one name titles are all the rage right now, but I don't know. I feel like a movie just called Adventure or Centipede.
Speaker: Wouldn't do agree or. ask okay well said to yeah yes Centipede definitely ah has a big concern right there. So.
Speaker: wow Yeah, it'll be. It'll definitely be interesting to see. Like, obviously nothing's been planned yet, but it it's more or less. If you hear about the Pong movie, i get ready.
Speaker: I hope it's a ping pong movie. It's like really epic. It might be ah in mouth technology news. You can now lick your way to victory with the mouth pad, a custom fit mouthpiece that allows users to control PCs, tablets and phones with just their tongue. The device is now available to purchase in the United States.
Speaker: and Accessibility. Accessibility is just good. Yeah, yeah. I can't wait to lick people to death in Call of Duty. i mean, I've seen a guy beat people up with a flute in Cod, so like, let's go mouth people.
Speaker: I just really scared. Fuck. I'm really scared with what this is going to certain Skyrim mods that are maybe not rated PG-13, rated 18 plus. I'm very scared of what this might do See, the the people who do those kind of mods have like insane PC rigs, so they probably already have custom technology for that reason.
Speaker: You know what? You're right. They've just been waiting for it to get released retail so people could actually use their mods. They got those all the support of like fucking track pads. They got the vibro vest. Now, those gamers are quite into their hobby, I reckon. They're most likely hard.
Speaker: The FBI has arrested a 21 year old Florida resident identified as Zaire Dontavious Zemarion Wilkins for allegedly distributing malware embedded in a series of Steam games to approximately 8000 thousand pcs He was caught thanks to traceable Uber Eats gift cards.
Speaker: I guess man's gotta eat, but was it worth it? I don't know. So, like, my thing with that, is that the fucking Mecha Chameleon guy? Is that the guy? don't know if hes that if he was that guy, because this seems to be, a like, a much larger sting. It'd be so funny if it was, though.
Speaker: but It would be. Helldivers 2 is collaborating with Warhammer 40k, adding new inspired weapons and armor to the game August 12th. What? Yeah. yeah So I could now serve the emperor while I'm i'm protecting super earth.
Speaker: No, it's just like armor inspired by Warhammer 40K. That's all I need, baby. That's all need. Not an actual space marine suit, unfortunately. Dude, if they give us melta or a bolta give us anything, just give us a big give us a bolter and I will be happy.
Speaker: i want to shoot rocket propelled Coke cans at people. ah Stupid Never Dies has gotten a release date a trailer. The game arrives October 21st, which I'm kind of excited for.
Speaker: Pocopia's expansion pass got an extended trailer with more details. ah First, the free update that's arriving August 5th allows us to build underwater, plant, and place cart rails. Basically, you can do things underwater that you can do on the surface.
Speaker: Manaphy is being added in the free update as Manaphy is the one that will give you Dive. Also on August 5th, the first part of the expansion pass releases bubbly bass in a new underwater city where you can encounter the likes of Popplio, Mudkip, Corsula, Corfish, Chinchow, Carvana, Weasel, the new watermelon crop, buoyant blocks, ah which are floated, which are blocks that can float anywhere underwater. They don't have to be like on the surface level of the water, new furniture and ah the deep sea, which is the dark part of the ocean.
Speaker: ah We also got some news from part two of the expansion pass. It's accessories for all the Pokemon. You can accessorize them and give them different accessories. That is coming late to 2026. And then part three, which will be another new town comes out 2027.
Speaker: Did you play Pocopia at all? risking I don't even have a switch to yet. So I don't, I want to play because like it it looks like the first like Stardew Valley Harvest Moon kind of like cozy game I'd be into because it's it's fucking Pokemon. I love those guys. They're so you got a big dumb head.
Speaker: you do. did Good game. ah Mario Sunshine for the GameCube is coming to Switch 2 on August 13th as part of the GameCube Virtual Console Nintendo Switch Online Services. I'm so excited.
Speaker: And also in the news department, Stream Elements. If you remember a couple, maybe like a month or two ago, s Stream Elements announced that, hey, guys, ah finances aren't good and we may have to shut down.
Speaker: we're going to talk around and try to find a potential buyer, but like things aren't looking good for us. Well, they've announced that they have now been acquired by razor. Whoa. Yeah. That's awesome. Okay.
Speaker: The site is basically saying the same say staying the same aside from new terms and services that you got agree to because obviously now that they're acquired by Razer, there's a bit more they have to put there. And the only other changes that are happening to the site will be more like sponsorship opportunities now that Razer is a part of that.
Speaker: ah So yeah, that's really about it for a Stream element Elements. They're sticking around, thank God, because that's where all my alerts and shit are. So... ah ah In the world of ongoing game news, starting off with MMORPG news, the Final Fantasy 14 mobile game is getting canceled. The Chinese version of the game is being terminated in the coming months and the global versions just not happening anymore.
Speaker: Oh, our IP that I guess it didn't last long. And it mostly was because like there just wasn't a lot of players ah for the game, which makes sense. I really don't know why FF14 did that.
Speaker: ah Because you're really trying to condense a Realm Reborn into a mobile form, and I'm like, don't know. That doesn't seem great. And yeah, it's just not happening now. yeah Well... In Fortnite news, the Simpsons are coming back to Fortnite through the reload mode, and it looks like John Wick's also involved.
Speaker: So... I look forward to that, I guess. In some e-sports news, Faker has become an honorary Korean police officer to help discourage online gambling.
Speaker: The irony in this is this is coming a year after Riot embraced betting sponsorships for a League of Legends. ah So now Faker is ah the famous Eastwards Pro is now an ambassador for cyber gambling prevention. Super ironic.
Speaker: yeah I'm so sorry for the outburst, but seeing the seeing the phrase Fakers become an honorary Korean police officer. is the craziest thing I've ever read as a legal legends e-sports enthusiast. Yes. Now, this doesn't mean that he'll be going around protecting and serving the peace. He's going to be more like um like when there's like ah like seminars on online gambling safety and stuff like that. He'll be there as like one of those ambassadors. Of course. That's just like it's like reading double lips has become a firefighter. be Like what?
Speaker: Why? Yeah, so that's a good faker, dude. Yeah, I wonder how much the Korean police force paid him for that. Probably a lot.
Speaker: Yeah. ah in the world of TCG, starting off with Pokemon, the 30th anniversary set comes out September 16th and Delta Rains drops November 8th. And in TCG Pocket, Ruler of the Skies is out now.
Speaker: In Yu-Gi-Oh! The TCG Legendary Arc 5 Dex Collector Set drop August 7th. Limited Pack World Championship 2026 drop August 8th. Magnificent Monsters on September 4th. And Beyond the Brave on October 9th.
Speaker: In Magic of the Gathering, the Hobbit set is fast approaching when it releases August 14th. Reality Fracture on October 2nd. And Star Trek on November 20th.
Speaker: Dog, I'm going to buy so many boxes of reality fracture. It's insane. i that I don't blame you as a guy addicted to cardboard. i don't blame you for that. Like the last couple of sets. Fine. Cool. Don't care. Reality fracture put in my veins. Hobbit. I'll probably buy like three packs. Call it good.
Speaker: Star Trek. I'll look at the packs. Call it good. Fair. Nothing against Star Trek, but unless it brings back my favorite mechanic rooms. Probably not going to buy it.
Speaker: Rooms. What the fuck? What the fuck is that? That's the ah that's the ah mechanic from Duskborn. ah Rooms are two face enchantments where you can cast either half and then you can unlock the other half later on.
Speaker: Interesting. They're awesome. There's only like 35 in all of magic. Huh? And I was i was high key hoping that ah the antagonist from Dusk Mordor would be more important. But nope, it's Jace Bellerin. He's the bad guy again. Yay. More Jace content. i Oh, will we get more loot as well? Oh, good.
Speaker: Lorkana, Attack of the Vines is out now in Hyperia City, releases October twenty third And in the Digimon DCG, Timeless Bonds releases September 4th and Chivalrous 13 on October 2nd.
Speaker: And lastly, in some tabletop news, Dungeons & Dragons is getting both an official Star Wars expansion and Warhammer expansion. Not Warhammer, World of Warcraft expansion. Oh, Tony, you can't do that to me. I was about to explode out of my chair when you said Warhammer expansion. No, it was World of Warcraft, I believe, not Warhammer. You scoffed with some sad Warcraft.
Speaker: Yeah, World of Warcraft. Yeah. Oh, Tony, my heart. theyre it what They both have war in it. know, I get you, but one of them is... so fucking angry the other one is so fine
Speaker: so yeah there there that's that's everything within the the week in review any final thoughts on any of those brisky Helldivers 2 Helldivers 2 Warhammer incredibly hyped for reality fracture it's going to be great genuinely 2026 is looking like a really good year for just almost everything except you know a couple things you know Yes.
Speaker: Overall, I'm enjoying the content. Why 26 is a great year unless you're a fan of destiny to rest in peace. Hey, I don't the opinion that the game is still playable and it was like, what, 10 years of content. True.
Speaker: We can't have our games be updated forever. No, no, we cannot. All right. With that, it's time for us to take a look ahead at what's coming out. Here are the games that should be on your radar from August 3rd to 14th. From AAA titles, indie hits, hidden gems and hot pieces of garbage.
Speaker: Here are the games coming out that should be on your radar. And kicking it off, no releases on the third, but on the fourth, a Beast of Reincarnation, Game Freak's non-Pokemon game releases on core systems, and Big Walk drops on the PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and PC.
Speaker: On the fifth, Fields of Mystery ah enters 1.0 on PC and Gunstompable comes to the Series X in PC. On the sixth, Cappy Castaway comes to PC. A Lies of P Complete Edition comes to the Switch 2. Marvel Tocan Fighting Souls comes to the PS5 in PC. Pigeon, a love story, comes to the PC and mobile devices. And Restory comes to PC. I'm sorry, what was that last game?
Speaker: Or the second to last game? and Pigeon, a love story. Is this the this is the sequel to that game where like you're dating birds? i I genuinely do not know. Okay, fair enough. No games on the 7th, but on the 10th, Twirl comes to PC. On the 11th, Agent 64, Spies Never Die comes to PC. Echoes of Mistralia comes to Early Access on PC. Legendary Bound comes to PC, and The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered comes to the Switch, too.
Speaker: No releases on the 12th, but on the 13th, Defender of the Crown, The Legend Returns comes to PS5 and BC. Dusk Fade comes to Core Systems and Switch 2. Hell Let Loose Vietnam finally releases on the Core Systems. Madden NFL 27 comes to PS5 and Series X. And Wild Loose Guys comes to Core Systems. And lastly, on the 14th, Grave Seasons comes to the Core Systems and Switch.
Speaker: And that's everything. I actually have one piece of news that of an upcoming game that's on your docket. Oh, which one's that grain rot? The ah the co-op survival ah like repo like game is coming on the seventh.
Speaker: Oh, good to know. Wooden robots piloted by electricity that ah collect trash to fix your bar. Oh, interesting. Well, there you go. There's another one coming out. As for what the big games coming out, ah Beast of Reincarnation, that is a big one. This is, i think, Game Freaks, like one of their few times that they're not releasing a Pokemon game. So ah I can't even think of one time they've done that. Like, I've never seen I've never played like a non Pokemon game from them.
Speaker: I'm trying to think, like, if they have there are games that they've done. oh yeah, they've done other games. They did Mario and Wario for the Super Famicom. Oh, you know, that that that modern console. Oh, they did Yoshi, also known as Mario and Yoshi, on the n NES and Game Boy.
Speaker: oh they did Drill Dozer. Okay. okay Okay, fair enough, fair enough. What else have they done? They've done... Tembo the badass elephant.
Speaker: ah I didn't respect their game yet again. a Little Town Hero was like a big game that they had that released in 2019. Yeah, yeah, that's that's really like there's not much else. There's like a bunch of other like Japan only games, but not not a lot. how They they have day haven't done like a lot of non Pokemon games. I mean, when you have a like when you have a golden goose that always lays diamond eggs, it's it's really tough to move on to like the regular chicken. Yeah, which is true.
Speaker: ah my My big game of the week that's coming out, I'm excited for Big Walk finally coming out. This is the new game by Untitled Goose Game Developers, House House. You and up 11 friends, 12-player co-op, by the way.
Speaker: Oh my God. Get to go on the biggest walk ever and solve puzzles, chill, hang out. It's going to be fun. We're going to streaming that. We're gonna make that a whole series for you guys in the game lounge. So look forward to that.
Speaker: If you're a fan of farming games like Stardew Valley Fields, Mystery Eye 1.0 is a good time. I have heard. Agent 64 is inspired by GoldenEye 007.
Speaker: I had a feeling. Yeah. yeah so ah if you want to if you want to play something like that again, definitely check that out. And Hell Let Loose Vietnam is the most anticipated game that Sergles the Great, our good friend of Wiggles, is most excited for ah this year. So dad he'll he'll definitely tell us about that so soon.
Speaker: Any other games here you're looking forward to, Brisky? I'm examining... Oh, I haven't heard of like over half of these games. It's kind of crazy. Yeah, i got to say nothing here is a particular particularly grabbing me, but I reckon I'll probably pick some of these up when they come out because they'll they'll probably be cool.
Speaker: o Definitely. All right. Well, with that, it's now time for us to dive into our main focus of the week. Here's what we're talking about this week in the game lounge. conversations of past and future games, the state of the gaming industry, how big decisions affect gamers, and anything else that's important to us. Here's what's going down this week in the Game Lounge.
Speaker: And starting off, our first topic of the day. Slop! oh the Oh, the word slop. I'm sure y'all hearing it lot recently.
Speaker: Yeah, friend slop, AI slop, sloppy toppy,
Speaker: got look at their Anyway, hey, yeah, we're talking about slop. um There's a lot. It's just kind of the words been thrown around a lot within the gaming world. So Brisky, how many slop genres do you think exist now ever since we brought the term slop into our daily vocabulary?
Speaker: So as personally, have been trying to not use the word only because it's lost all meaning, because when I say slop, I could mean anything now. Drew, yeah, because granted, when I say friend slop, that does invoke a certain genre.
Speaker: Well, it doesn't tell you anything about the quality because there's, you know, it could be good. It could be bad. But like off the top of my head, you got like cod slop because we've been making the same Call of Duty game for like eight years now. Like it's kind of crazy.
Speaker: Yeah, we got Corpo slop, which is, you know, like Madden. and where ah I'm not into like the sports games, but like Why do you like I i can't run my head around like, oh, hey, this this new Madden game has all the same people as the last one because no new people have risen in the ranks.
Speaker: Yeah, like i said, I think sports games should just go to a subscription based service, honestly. And then yeah every year when you renew it, it comes to the roster update. And that's basically it. I don't know why they haven't done that, because I feel like they would get way more money off of that.
Speaker: Because like, why would I buy Madden 27 when I'm sure Madden 2020 the exact same game? Because my big thing is they're all in the same console generation, too.
Speaker: Yeah, that they are. Like, like, I think I feel like most sports games are just relegated like those bins at Walmart. Like if you if you were growing up, you always saw those were always sports games and like the shitty Guitar Hero knockoffs.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. Fucking band hero. Yeah. I had that growing up. We have the good. We have the guitar and the drum set and the microphone in my basement.
Speaker: Nice. But like, so, yeah, Corpo Slop kind of like general big industry, like low effort, repeated content. But then you got like Friends Slop, which is, you know, that invokes Repo, Lethal Company, ah Super Battle Golf.
Speaker: But I just... I wish there was a better term because we used to just call these party games. Yeah. and Yeah, did. It's a much nicer term. It is a much nicer term, but I feel like when now we whenever we say party game now, people are like, oh, you mean like Mario Party? Mario Party? Or like, or if I could, what's that one on the PC? 100% orange juice or something? No, that one's but i mean, that's kind of falls into the one a Pummel Party.
Speaker: That's I'm thinking Pummel Party. yeah Yeah. Yeah. When it comes to like when you say party games, like most people nowadays think of, I think just Mario Party and like Mario Kart, I think kind of falls under it too slightly. Yeah.
Speaker: Because like I could I associate it with like there was this great party game called Screen Sheet. It was an online game where invoked like screen sharing.
Speaker: Well, yeah, everybody's invisible. yeah You have to look at your friend's screen to see where they are. h And that's just a genius concept. Like, I feel like old party games were high concept.
Speaker: And you play them for, you know, seven hours. You never play them again. Yeah. Now, that's still the case of certain front slop games that are certain modern multiplayer games nowadays, too, is like these like, oh, yeah, you play it for a week and then you never touch it again unless you're like feeling nostalgic for it or whatever.
Speaker: Yeah, because like my big issue is gamers as a group. Can we just define slop? Because in my humble opinion, can we just make slop its original fucking definition again?
Speaker: Yeah, because like my big thing is like. So number one, this this whole topic was spurred on by one of my favorite chatters. I said I saw Obsession and he called the movie Slop and I'm like,
Speaker: Why? Because when I think like a slop as a film, i think like blood and honey.
Speaker: Winnie the Pooh horror movie that was made in like seven months. Yeah, god that was the production time they had on that. Jesus Christ. Don't quote me on that. I'm I'm going to slinging a lot of I apologize for anybody I name here, but like it just invokes a reaction. But like, if I'm not mistaken, there was a Steamboat Willie horror movie that was made immediately after the patent dropped for that.
Speaker: And like, I'm sorry, that's garbage. Like, no, that absolutely is. You can't make a good film with that kind of restriction on that timeline, in my opinion. No.
Speaker: Like there's there's slop like that and then there's like refined slop and like I would put like so the scary movie franchise under refined slop. Whereas it like, you know, it's not going to be like super great, but it's going to be it's going to funny as hell.
Speaker: heres Here's a big thing that I feel like would save scary movie from being slop. Effort. Scary movies, a lot of things, but I would not call them low effort.
Speaker: I feel like they are moderately well-written. The physical jokes are very fun and they always have lots of physical props and like physical practical effects, which they don't look good, but there's effort put in there.
Speaker: You know, when you can now just CG everybody, you get like, you know, you get like Neil Breed. Or you get like Tommy Wiseau. Sorry, Tommy. I did not hear that. I not hear that. It's bullshit. Oh, hi, Mark.
Speaker: But can we save slop for like objectively like bad things? Like, okay, like why did we start using the term slop like in like Fred Slop? Like what? Where did I even do we know where it like originated from?
Speaker: Like why did we do it? so It's interesting because I don't think when lethal so Lethal Company is the the progenitor to all these friend games, I would say. Yeah, Lethal Company is definitely like the the catalyst of everything.
Speaker: Like Lethal Company came out. Everybody on God's earth played it. But nobody called it slop. Oh, here we go. but There's a Wikipedia page for friend slop. Fuck yeah, dude. Friend slop is a subgenre of low effort indie like corporate video game that focuses on a low barrier of entry and social interaction. The name itself is a combination of friend in the print but pejorative suffix slop as the social game is said to be low budget, low cost indie games and then to attract entire friend groups to purchase copies to play together online.
Speaker: Where did it where was it used? The term Fred Slop originated from a 2024 post by a a Twitter user as a satirical way to describe slice of life anime.
Speaker: Oh, However, its more common interpretation was coined in March last year by another Twitter user who described these games as friend farming.
Speaker: While intended as a joke, the post ran viral. It was taken seriously by many who mocked and derided the genre. The popularity of the 2025 co-op survival game peak led to a drastic increase in use of the term amongst gaming media and players, shifting to its usage now So Fred's slop was to describe slice of life animes. That's crazy. Here's my here's a here's a bonus brisky hot take.
Speaker: I don't think slice of life is the slop. I feel like isekais are the slop. I feel like you could throw a dart at like every anime ever, and you are so likely to hit a fucking isekai. It's insane.
Speaker: i mean, if we're looking at like more modern stuff. Yeah, because was a pig definitely picked up with like within the recent years. So like I feel like pre circa 2015 even it wasn't like super, super common.
Speaker: True. It wasn't common a while back, but I feel there's just been so the quantity of them in this small amount of time feels obscene.
Speaker: hmm. And that's where, you know, going back up to the topics, that's where truck coon comes from. That's an Isekai joke. It is. Yeah. Yes, it that one transcended the media. It did.
Speaker: Oh, it did. ah so good but I guess we now know where that that term came from. Which I mean, yeah, it is said like the games are definitely like, yeah, they're low budget because they they are like very accessible to a lot of to mass amount of people. And I guess because like because of how modern gaming was where it's like, you know, games cost like 70 to 80 dollars.
Speaker: uh now the cheaper stuff that's only like under 10 bucks usually out of ten times back in the day was like kind of kind of bad hence the the term slop and now that like that production quality has gone up with those games now just kind of flipping it around to friend slop makes a bit more sense i guess of like origin wise of why we shifted to that yeah because like It's one of those things to where overall get why like it started like so many of them started spawning because, yeah, people were getting outraged because people were like, oh, let's raise the game prices to $80. Everyone's like, don't that.
Speaker: don't do that No capitalism. Why do you have to do that? I still refuse to buy a $70 game at full price. I just can't do it, man. I mean, look, I i just play. I originally do sometimes because it's just I play too many games in the year now.
Speaker: oh that's that's it's completely fair to do it. It's just like, yeah, I can't do it. Yeah, no, that's fair, too. That is definitely fair.
Speaker: But I feel like we should save. heard a term I really liked, but it will never catch on because it's not it's not catchy and invocative like friend slop.
Speaker: I heard somebody call these games friend likes, and I like that a lot. That is not bad, but it's definitely not good. It's definitely a lot trickier for that to stick, unfortunately.
Speaker: Which is a damn shit. I think I think of like if history, we if we could rewrite history, friend likes would definitely be, i think, a more would be the term that we would use. I think I think that definitely would be like the better term to use.
Speaker: Trying to think of like if any other term could be used, but i think friend likes would definitely is that like the the right way to go with it. Yeah, because you you need friend in there to invoke, you know, the goal.
Speaker: See, ah overall, I'm pretty happy with a genre on mass, even though I don't like the name for it. But my big distinction for like what makes like a a friend game, a friend sloth game that's worth playing and what isn't is.
Speaker: Are you enjoying your friend's company are you playing a game with your friend? yeah what I mean, by that is like Are you guys enjoying a game together or you guys just idling at your computer in whatever you know game just not really engaging with it Gotcha. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, that's definitely the big the big thing with that. Yeah, because there are marketing games that do both. Like, obviously, you have the repos and the lethal companies where it's like you're playing the game and not like idling about. And then like you have the sledding game where you're more likely to be idling about.
Speaker: Yeah, because I feel like you. OK, here's another good of rubric. I feel could you get the same experience from the friend slop game by just standing in a Gmod empty world and just hanging out with your friends?
Speaker: Because I was thinking and I'm like, man, I could just role play. um ah What is that content warning?
Speaker: because the game doesn't really feel very engaging. Like I could just, you know, spawn a camera around to my friend and make shitty YouTube videos in G-Bod.
Speaker: Yeah. And get the same experience. I feel like that game doesn't really. It's a damn shame because I really like i think it's Landfall, the people that made Peak.
Speaker: Yep. And I like Landfall a hell of a lot. But overall, I just think that Content warning just it's not very game. It's just kind of. just waddle around in the dark and die.
Speaker: no and I feel the same way about the headliners, too. Yeah, i I like headliners well enough like it's but again, it's I'm more like it because I'm playing with my friends who make the game more exciting. I think it's like you definitely need to strike the right balance of interactive gameplay and doing something else with aside from just like chilling or doing something simple like you need to add a bit of like action into it, I guess.
Speaker: For me, that game is repo because i feel like repo has the right blend of like you get to do stuff, but it's not all like nuts to butts, stressful like, you know, late game peak can get kind of stressful.
Speaker: Around like the calendar calendar. I mean, late game repo get get really stressful too with all the monsters and shit. True, but I never get to late game. re I always die. hey True. We're not good enough for that.
Speaker: no i also I also with me, i I couldn't do repo like I played initially, like I thought it was all right, but like there were a lot of like quality of life stuff with repo.
Speaker: that I was like, hi this is like, because they like don't have certain things. I'm like, I can't do it anymore. Like, I don't know if they ever fixed it or not, but like it has is like late to joining in the game yet. Not yet.
Speaker: Yeah. So that's because like, especially like fucking someone disconnects because of like shoddy internet. It's like, well, fuck now we got to back out and get them back in and shit. Like still don't like that about repo.
Speaker: They've they've made whispers about adding that, but their concern is like ah people could just leave and respond effectively. True. but like it's it's the game is just for fun. There's no battle pass or anything. So I feel like if your friend wants to cheese the game, like who cares? Yeah, exactly. Like, like if you want to choose the game, let's choose the game. i don't care.
Speaker: Like I more care about playing with my friends with that game than having to go through steps to get them back into the game. See, the problem with all these friend games, like specifically these monster like quota games, the big problem I feel is there's nothing for dead players to do.
Speaker: Yeah, because if you fall in a hole like room one of like a five quota repo level, it's like, cool, i'm just going text on my phone for the next hour. Yeah. No, that is like definitely one of the downsides to it. Like sure, you get like the multi camera angles with it like you can like spectate everybody else and see what dumb shit they're doing and laugh at them for doing their dumb shit.
Speaker: But like there's not much else to do. But thankfully, in the recent months, they've added like you can move your head while dead and you can talk through it. Yes. So.
Speaker: A quality of life improver that is nice, but I would still like, you know, late joining and just kind of like general progression fixing.
Speaker: But i feel like repo covers a lot of like the good parts of friend slop. Yeah, I will say that. I feel like it's so weird that friend slop is almost always horror. Well, not always.
Speaker: I said almost always because yeah yeah, peak is not a horror game, but the Scoutmaster is fucking terrifying. that is some creepy pasta bullshit. Yeah. ah Yeah. You know, you got you got headliners. Again, there's giant monsters and aliens and shit.
Speaker: Yep. You got a lethal company famous for its monsters. Yeah. have The camera game. I keep forgetting content warning like we said earlier. Yeah. And it's like it's so there there's so many is like it's is is a spec like the thing about Fred's obviously usually expected of two things.
Speaker: horror really cozy. no threat at all. And then there's like all in the middle, like crash out crew, which was aggro crabs, newest one or frog squad.
Speaker: Frog Squad. Frog Squad's fun. I love Frog Squad. I think that was a great one. and the fact that like Frog Squad does stuff with your microphone where it's like if you become fat, you just your voice gets deeper. And if you become baby, it's really funny. That way you can just yell, I'm a fat fucking chun.
Speaker: see And just roll around. Like I love Frog Squad for that reason alone. But it's like he like it's like you have one of three. It's like there's three levels of front slop and there is no in between.
Speaker: Yeah, ah super cozy shit like sledding game, ah cooperative mayhem that will lead to funny moments and then horror.
Speaker: I just picked up another of a friend slop game called Happy's Humble Burger Cult. It's a sequel spinoff of one of my favorite horror games, Happy's Humble Burger Farm.
Speaker: And this one is actually interesting compared to all the others because If I'm not mistaken, the game has like levels where it listens to your microphone. Oh, that's lovely. Oh, no swearing level. If you swear, the cow mascot comes to beat the brakes off you. And I'm like, that's one. That's ah that's fun. hat Well, yeah, because like if I could, if I call my friend, my friend a fucking idiot, a giant cow comes out of the floor and beats my ass.
Speaker: That's funny. Oh, there you got It's funny. God. Or like another. see now we're getting to the games where I don't know if their friends slop in the typical meaning because like a shift at midnight just came out.
Speaker: And that's a game where you run a you run a ah a convenience store. oh yeah. And like entities come in and it's not really like a quota game. You're just running a store with your friends. so like it's weirdly like a cozy horror game, but it's also funny because like a gnome on a motorcycle named Michael can just come in and like wreak havoc.
Speaker: Yeah. I don't know if it's friends slop because I feel like It's just kind of a hang out with your friends and run a rest or or run a ah ah a game or run whatever.
Speaker: Well, I think a lot of people now just like clarify, like, like, again, that's I think the problem with the term is like you anything that's like now multiplayer, like that I think it's multiplayer that involves just like a sort of gimmick that isn't like a survival crafting gimmick is just friend slop. Yeah, because like ah the mound Omen of Cthulhu just came out and that looks like an action adventure game to me. But it has, you know, quote, friend slot mechanics of, you know, local voice chat and like chaos happens. So is that friend slop? And dude, somebody called Buckshot Roulette friend slop and that blew my mind. Yeah, it's definitely I think we I honestly think that the French French French shop term, we should only use it on really bad games that are that are that involve co-op. If they look like shit or they play like shit is what we should call French love, because that is like, ah, multiplayer games or, you know, just regular co-op games is what we can call them again. And then the French love are the bad things.
Speaker: But will that actually happen? No, now does no, no. The we've like, if we go to the Internet has ruined it for us. Yeah, because if you go, well, if the Internet's like obliteration of the word, oh hey, left for dead friend slop, it's like, that's different. it's like, why is it different?
Speaker: articulate to me the difference, you know, Mr. John friends love. Tell me how this is different. Yeah. That's like a friend slop. You're killing rats and that you're not really doing any objectives. You're just kind of killing rats together. All multiplayer games that you can play with your friends are now friends swap.
Speaker: That's really how it fucking feels. space Yeah, that really is kind of just the world we live in now, which is a little unfortunate. How dare that guy tweet that fucking slice of life. Animes are Fred slop. If he could have refrained from that, we wouldn't be in this situation. He's the little domino that ruined gaming. Wow.
Speaker: How does it feel? Twitter user who tweeted that to ruin gaming. How does it feel? John Guymon? How dare you? How dare you? at least we can agree that AI slop is the worst kind of slop. See, that's what I think. I think that's why the word slop frustrates me is I learned it through AI slop because it is the lowest effort content feasible.
Speaker: Mm hmm. Like you can't get lower effort than typing in a word and having a computer do all the work for you. Yeah. Like, dude, the the deluge of like AI, like sex games on Steam is horrifying. like I don't get it, man.
Speaker: Who's buying them, man? There's so many. There's some gooders out there. I'll tell you that. Yeah. But if you're going to if you're going to do that, like buy a game, don't buy like A slideshow of art. That is bad. yeah Yeah, so even the shittiest quality human made Gooner game is probably better than the best AI game.
Speaker: You would hope you would hope. See, but here's the oh, another game, right? Phasmophobia is Phasmophobia slop because Phasma predates all these games we listed and your mindry has all the mechanics.
Speaker: Yeah, it's quota based. Kind of. Not really quota based. You're making an educated guess on what you can find. Yeah, I remember earning money. I was like, oh, yeah, you're earning money. It's like, no, the money is for other things. No, no, you're just trying to figure out the one guy.
Speaker: But yeah, like Phasmo has local voice chat. It's a little bit dumb and goofy because of the graphics and like how you know antiquated they are. I think they got better now, but work with me here.
Speaker: ah Like by all these modern definitions, other than looking like the Muppets is Phasma slop. I'd say no. I feel like Phasma has too much effort put into it to be slop. You know, I feel like effort is a big factor what makes it slop or not.
Speaker: Yeah, definitely. Because like I wouldn't I wouldn't personally call Mecha Chameleon Sloth, but like I could see why somebody would because it looks very it looks very simple.
Speaker: Yeah. i ah But honestly, like I would if we're going based off of that thing of like effort put into a game, I wouldn't call any of the games that any of the popular friends love games. I wouldn't call them slop like.
Speaker: Because yep they ah there was actual effort put into these things. Like there were, but there were for some of these games, there was budgets for these games. Like. And that's why slop frustrates me so much. Yeah.
Speaker: Well, to slop or not to slop in the future, that will be the question. Honestly, I think when the AI bubble bursts, I think the slop bubble will also burst.
Speaker: I hope so. But there is one thing that surprised me though, way back when was ah around the time of phasmo. ah a bunch of low effort ghost hunting games came out back to back to back to back. Yes. And that does seem to spawn the thing of like the second one game like that doesn't like decently well comes out all the low effort copies of it to try to bank off of its success and get some money, too, because ever since that librarian tidy up the library game came out of loves that game.
Speaker: it's It's a solid game. It's a solid time. There have been like more of those that have come out and I'm just like, okay, I'm sick of this already. See, I just... Like the same thing goes with like TCG card shop sim. A bunch of other shop sims came out. It was more of like more of a, what was it? a Market, supermarket sim.
Speaker: And all the eye clothes that like is just like the second one happens, more shoddy, lower effort. once follow. See, one thing I can give like trading card sim and like some of those other ones is they're not abandoned yet because I'm looking at my my library right now and the majority of those ghost hunting games are all abandoned.
Speaker: ah There is one I was really excited for back in the day called Obsidio. It had like really interesting like triggers and stuff, but has been updated in 18 months.
Speaker: And, you know, that usually means it's never getting updated. Yeah. And that's a big problem is okay low updates and getting abandoned. I think officially marks your game a slop.
Speaker: I think to a degree. Early access abatement. Yes. OK, yeah, absolutely. Your game is in early access and you you're not like it's been like that long and there's been nothing. Then yeah.
Speaker: Absolutely. Yeah, because specifically early access because dude, ever since Greenlight went away, there's just been an epidemic of low effort, early access games.
Speaker: And that's where you get into like, again, what i would call a genuine slop, like asset flips. Oh my God. Yeah. I haven't thought about those in so long, but man, asset flips, they still come around from time to time. They do. They they do.
Speaker: But I'm just happy that again, on mass games are still trending to be better than bad. Yeah, that that is the trend, which is nice because I get I'd rather have good games to play than bad games to play. At least most of the games that are coming out, we can at least it's like it's kind of becoming easier to identify what the bad ones are.
Speaker: Thankfully, because there'll be people that will fall for the bad ones and then, you know, leave the but the bad reviews. I think, yeah, don't play this fucking game. It's actual trash. They're like, ah, perfect. That's the one to avoid.
Speaker: see what always surprises me is just the fact that the um they just feel like they just spawn like just the quantity. It's always it's never like one. It it always feels like a deluge. Yeah, it's very much a quantity over quality. Most of the time, finding the needle in the haystack.
Speaker: With the needle being the good game. whom So, yes. um Is there anything else you want to add to the slop conversation? ah Just because, oh if you're making a video game, you don't need to make your guys look like finger puppets.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. There's like it's like decreasingly verbose how every game's graphics gets simpler. Like gamble with your friends is like like Dr. Mario pills screaming at each other.
Speaker: oh eventually we're going to have a friend slop game. It's literally just like three cubes and it's going to be the one that sells three trillion copies. Yeah.
Speaker: Cause like, I like the graphics of Peak. I think they're very charming and fun. Yeah. Well then, you know, you go down to like gamble with your friends like, okay, they're even smaller now. It's like, okay. Oh, Mecha Chameleon. You're just a little outline of guys.
Speaker: Yeah. But you can just draw on them. Yeah. You design our characters. Yeah. I know it's the premise, but you get the prep. You give an you we get the point. Yeah, no exactly.
Speaker: This is your public service reminder that most FPS shooters are in a three-dimensional space, so you have to look up once in a while, because that camper that you were complaining about has been standing on the same light standard the whole time, because you refuse to look up.
Speaker: You're letting your whole team down.
Speaker: All right. Well, with that, it's time to move on to our second topic of the day. ah We are talking sentimental games, the games that make you feel something.
Speaker: I got so many of these. I got like i got a billion of these goddamn games. All right. What are what are some of the your central mental games, Brisky?
Speaker: So I would say my number one, like the game I think of what I think sentimental. It's going to sound weird, but hear me out here. Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots.
Speaker: I mean, it's not the weirdest one I heard, especially considering its ending of well this. it Also, wait a minute. This is like the last cutscene of the game, like x amount of hours.
Speaker: No, the last cutscene is like... I think it's 40 minutes. Okay. what But in chapter three, there is the world's longest singular cut scene and it's just Snake's mom talking to him about nano machines for longer than the entire South Park, bigger, longer and uncut film. No way. No. you can watch You can watch the South Park movie from beginning to end all credits Go make a sandwich and still come back with five minutes left, approximately. No! Oh my god, Kojima,
Speaker: It's something like an hour and 37 minutes or something obscene. Kojima, why? And it's it wouldn't be bad if it wasn't a boring cutscene where it's just- Nanobots, son! Nanomachines, son! It's just Snake's mom yapping about nanomachines. I'm like, I don't care.
Speaker: Little did I know that's the entire game. Fucking nanomachines, Raiden. But yeah, ah way back in the day, ah my dad was in Florida for work and he's like, oh, hey, I just got this PS3 and I had never seen a console above the PS2 or the N64. So this looked insane to me.
Speaker: and he's like, yeah, i got this game called Oblivion. I got this other game called Metal Gear Solid and I just can't beat it. And my dad is terrible at games, but he loves playing them. His favorite game all the time, Skyrim.
Speaker: Nice cultured cultured man. Indeed. But yeah, he's just waddling around as old snake doing nothing and getting kicked by giant robots called geckos.
Speaker: he's like He's like, I just can't get into this game. You give it a try. And I just played that for hours. i I didn't know how to play a stealth game, so I treated it like guns of war, just so running around suplexing people and just blasting them away.
Speaker: i think I had on my very first playthrough like 700 alerts and like two thousand kills oh wow because there are segments where people just infinitely respawn. I'm like, oh, I can just farm kills here.
Speaker: There's no XP system. I was just those killing soldiers for no reason. but Yeah, Metal Gear Solid has always had a special place in my heart ever since, because weirdly enough, I started with four, then I played two, then three, then one, then five.
Speaker: through the most confusing way to play that series. That is definitely a way to play through that. My God. But yeah, I would say Metal Gear Solid 4 is probably one of my most beloved games.
Speaker: And like those those in universe advertises while the game installs your PS3 for the 70th time will live right in my head.
Speaker: Damn. Oh, tell me. I'm very curious. said i don't I don't know much about you. So tell me about your. Fuck. Try to think. That's a very good question. I'm trying to think of like the one of the first games that like kind of gave me like any kind of emotional response that wasn't just, oh, cool. We have a memory card now. Now we can actually progress this game properly. What would be probably halo Reach for me is probably one of them.
Speaker: You know, one of the first games shooters I played that I was actually good at and I've spent just like hours and hours playing it nonstop like a lot of this shit because it's like god like it's a fuck I don't even know what's a game that like no matter how mad you are at everything like what is like a comfort game you can always come back to I feel like that might help you a bit.
Speaker: Probably a God. Minecraft probably then. Cause my first introduction to choice, like in Minecraft, cause like my first introduction to Minecraft was on the Xbox 360 version of the game. And like loading into that tutorial world for the first time on the demo. And you're just like, Oh wow. Look at all this.
Speaker: Back when the world was like a thousand by a thousand, if that. Yeah, back when the world was just a single map. you know, like Hunger Bars weren't were weren't even a thing yet. And all that stuff.
Speaker: it was ah It was good days. Like I played a lot of it growing up. And like it just kind of stuck with me for like a very long time. It was one of the first, if not the first platinum trophy I got. um verifying that right now was Minecraft my first one?
Speaker: It was. Minecraft was my first platinum trophy 2021. twenty one That's why I platinum the game, but I had been playing it for years prior. of course.
Speaker: like ah I love how it felt going from like everything in the game felt like in a huge trek on console Minecraft. was like, man, I have to walk like two billion blocks and by the time like you really get a feel for how your world was laid out, it's like i have my I'm in the top left of my map and my friends in the bottom right. He's like, hey, can you bring me some cobble? So yeah, you can just make the trek like no problem. It just felt like actual like progression as like a player.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: It was good. It was good times and playing with your friends or playing split screen with my brother. Like it was it was fun. It was it was definitely like the one of the few times I really, really enjoyed Like it's definitely like just one of like the the long one of the longest games that stuck with me um before it you know, just it be cool before it turned into like the the two week Minecraft binge or whatever it is. new I just I love Minecraft so much, but.
Speaker: I want to say i kind of like got stunned out of it for a bit because. I just don't like a diorite granite and andresite and the site. Yeah. And I'm like, why? Why? I just want stone. Now there's deep slate.
Speaker: God, like, oh, I can't sack his deep slate iron with this deep so with this iron or I don't get it. Like, it feels like complexity just for the heck of it.
Speaker: And like when they added copper, i'm like, I don't. What's it good for? so You can make lightning rods and spyglass. You added a whole ore for two items.
Speaker: It has a couple more now, but like back when it was initially added, yeah, there wasn't much to do with it. See, here's the problem, though. Now, so you can make armor with it. That's equivalent to leather.
Speaker: You can make tools which are equivalent to like I think it's somewhere between gold and or so somewhere between iron and stone.
Speaker: so like. In progression, cop copper is just bad.
Speaker: Yeah, there's no point you can slot in copper. They wouldn't be more efficient. Just as go to iron. It has the same problem. Gold has. Yeah, yeah. And see, at least gold has the value of being tradable to the piglins and all that shit. Like if you're like, you know, modern shit.
Speaker: Or at least gold looks good. i mean, you use copper, i think for beacons, right? Uh, no. Oh, really? What the fuck? As forwards, I'm aware can't even be made out of ah copper.
Speaker: Damn. Okay. Well, that, you know, wow. It's really just there is you see copper is Minecraft slop. ah Feature slop is another topic where it's just adding shit for the heck of it. Where it's like, who asked for this? Why did you tweak this?
Speaker: I liked copper back when it was like a mod thing because it's like, yeah, we have more uses for it. with Yeah. Like, oh yeah, that mod we had to make like the giant fucking foundry and like make your metal and like cast it.
Speaker: Oh yeah, yeah. Like foundry craft or something. Yeah, whatever. i know it's part of Sky Factory because it's like... yeah Sky. Awesome.
Speaker: i I love Sky Factory. It was so fun. I've gotten yelled at by my friends so many times for falling in the fucking foundry and filling with blood. Now we got to have the outline. I got to put your blood at the bottom, fish it out with a bucket, and then we have to put the gold back in. I'm sorry, dude. You put it in my house in the floor.
Speaker: do who don't understand feng shu shui and just put shit everywhere crazy crazy um what are some other essential better games like what were like what are some of the factors that led to them like what do you think makes these games sentimental for us like is it the one we played them what we do with them how much time we put into these games Like, what do you think the biggest factor for these games of giving us this sentimental value is?
Speaker: So I can actually give you quite a few examples of like things. So number one, Mario Sunshine, very sentimental because when I was too little to read, my sister would play it and have my other sister read the book while I just watched awe of Mario Sunshine.
Speaker: It was a three person effort to get like 50 blue coins out of like the 120 and we were so proud of that. Nice. And like Mario Sunshine, I always associate with my sister and like ah here's a Mario Sunshine is doubly sentimental to me because I had lost my job a couple of years back, actually, like during COVID and I had no money coming in.
Speaker: And Nintendo 3D All-Stars was announced and I made a post on my personal discord with my IRL friends. And I i was like, dude, I'm so fucking sad. ah Nintendo just announced they're taking this off the store and I won't have money for it by the time it's gone. I was just, yeah I was just being a sad boy. And one of my, one of my best friends IRL sent me the money for the game. And I cried, man. Cause like he, he gave me access to my childhood game and it was so nice.
Speaker: Like I can just play that game whenever I want now. And it just sends me back to being either say with my sister and playing the game or sitting with my best friend and just watching me struggle with Mario Sunshine.
Speaker: Nice. But I feel like sentimentalness comes from the age you play, the circumstance you were in at the time, and if family or friends was involved. Or it could become something completely different.
Speaker: I definitely think those are like, I definitely like the the the big key things that affect it. If you were to look at, let's say, 10 years from the future, what games like now from like this era of games do you think you would feel this way about or you feel this way about now?
Speaker: So modern games I'm very sentimental for, more or less, kind of. If I like 10 years from now, what would i Darkest Dungeon would be high up on that list. That is a all time or favorite game of mine. It's so high up there.
Speaker: It means so much to me for again, for so many reasons, but like I feel like DD one is basically timeless.
Speaker: like You can just get sent back to that, that Gothic estate, that venerable house. And it'll always feel good. like the art style, the music, the narrator Wayne June, rest in peace. Like everything about that game is perfect.
Speaker: And just ah that game released when I was on a float trip for Boy Scouts and I had to spend a full week fantasizing about what the game would be like. but And so finally coming home exhausted, I slept for two days without leaving my bed, basically. And then getting to play this game, it was euphoric. It it was everything I wanted.
Speaker: And I died in the tutorial. I was streaming it on Skype to an old friend of mine. oh my God. Rest in peace. Wow. And Skype was still a around. Yeah. My God.
Speaker: i was streaming it on Skype to a friend and he's like, Brisky, you should refund this game because you you're bad. You lost in the tutorial, dude. The tutorial has.
Speaker: Two enemies. There are two encounters. oh And I lost Dismas, the highwayman. And I'm like, how? How?
Speaker: the answer? I was just bad. Wow. and it just goes to It just goes to show, kids. we We don't get better at video games. You're just lying to yourself. We think we you get better at video games. We don't.
Speaker: We really don't. Oh my God. But a game i could I could see being sentimental for me in the future, just because I'm enjoying it so much now, the library game.
Speaker: It's just so relaxing. Like, it I mean, it is. i don't see it that way for me, like because the game is short. There's really no replayability value unless you're going for the speed run achievements. know.
Speaker: Like, i don't see it. I don't see that one being very sentimental. I've seen it as like, ah oh, yeah, that was ah a game that spawned a bunch of other games of that genre. um For me personally, Digimon Story Time Stranger and Expedition 33 are definitely two.
Speaker: gotta finish that game. Which one? Time Stranger Expedition? Expedition. you got It's a great one. It's probably one of the best stories in video games in the last 25 years.
Speaker: my My friend ah bought it after me, finished it before me and got a tattoo of the rose with a when one falls, we continue or whatever. That's dope.
Speaker: And she got that shit so fast. It made my head spin. I'm like, I haven't even finished the game. man It's like, yeah, it's been two weeks. Like, i just have it's a bit. old warbes I haven't played it.
Speaker: Brisky, I have a question for you before I get to like the one other game that I would list to said for me. How many games have you played this year? Do you think? Oh. Like to a meaningful sense, I imagine. yeah like at least like three hours or like if it was shorter than that, you finished it. Like how many do you think you're at?
Speaker: Oh man. Okay. So I'm just going to take a quick glance at like what I would like, even like mark as noteworthy. I played a lot of rift of the Necrodancer tons of dead of Cisco, a lot of lot of dead of Cisco.
Speaker: That's fine. how How many hours are you out with Dennis? Disco out of curiosity. ah Disco. I am 31. OK, because that's the other game I was going to say is definitely going to have sentimental value on me like 10 years from now. that That game is fantastic. Scoreboard sends me so far back. Dude, dude, the fucking like I don't think disco would have been high up if I if we if I didn't have as many like don't know what it is, but like having people to challenge through scoreboards has been like just he lit a fire under me with this game.
Speaker: And I have over 80 hours in it. t It's so crazy. That is like, wow. It is like my sixth most played game on Steam. o Dude, I put too many hours into games that I shouldn't.
Speaker: but Which is fair. um But I have played this year alone. I have played 84 games. Oh my goodness. That's not even a record. My record is like 150.
Speaker: See, I go through like gigabinges because I remember, and I think it 23. I put like 500 hours into one game mode of um Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous. Oh, wow.
Speaker: Because I've never been in that game. All my hours in that game are in like the mediocre roguelite mode.
Speaker: Dang. i am I feel like a god at that game now. I can just whip up like a ah a crack character just go kill god like on a win. Okay. I think this year I've played sub 50 games, a no worthy amount.
Speaker: Jeez. A couple of the weird ones that stuck out with me was like ah one of my one of night chatters recommending to play a game called Homocypher. it's It's a visual novel game where you're dropped. It's like a monster world with like bunch of anime boy spooky monster.
Speaker: but you don't speak their language. So you get to fill out what you think they're saying. Yes, I do. I know exactly what this game is. I have seen a trailer or something for it. It's really fun because i you know, I it's so engaging mentally because it's like, oh, ah that means here and not here. Oh, that's head, leg, arm.
Speaker: And then it's like, what the fuck did he say to me? Is he saying stop?
Speaker: And it's like you me go haircut eat of like you're going to eat my hair if I don't leave. and it was like, no monster will eat your hair if you don't leave. And it was saying he's going to eat my head.
Speaker: ah yummy. so yeah that's a that's a weird game that really like was cool to make. Yeah, i I binge like the same games for long times.
Speaker: Yeah, I only do that with one. i only do that with one game now, and that's FF14. do you? Bugenics is probably one of my bigger games of this year. I love that game. Nice. I've heard a lot of good things about it, but I personally didn't care for Binding of Isaac. ah Just wasn't for me.
Speaker: So it's like Bugenics just kind of fall felt fell into the same boat. See, they're just they're wildly different gameplay wise, at least. He didn't just make like Isaac 2. Yeah. Which I like.
Speaker: ah Fair. Because like with ah he made another game called The Legend of Bumble that was like a a match three game. And I'm like, I don't care about this. ah who And i skipped it entirely. All right.
Speaker: All that mattered with Bumble is there was one lore drop. but All right, then. Yeah, and that's all done it for that for the game. Nice. Just like how in Kingdom Hearts Melody of Emery, the only thing that matters is the game's ending.
Speaker: I kid you not. All right. ah Is there anything else you want to add on this topic before we head into the bonus level? Ooh, there is one more game I want to shout out that I just love. Absolutely. haven't played it since it came out. Like I haven't played it meaningfully for a while, but ah it's called Deck of Haunts.
Speaker: ah You are a haunted house. Oh, and you're trying to lure people inside of you to eat them. Ah, nice. It's a roguelike deck builder.
Speaker: Nice. You have two decks. You have your house deck, which is like how your house is laid out. And you put like new rooms, like ah the screaming room, the weapon room and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker: And then you have your knight deck, which is like Oh, shifting halls of move a survivor to a random room. Oh, spawn the slasher. Just spawn a demon it were to jump people. Hell yeah.
Speaker: And you can name all the characters. So I i just have like a list of names. It's like, oh, you are now fighting ah Mama Carrots. It's like, oh, I have to kill Mama Carrots. Oh, well.
Speaker: Shame. it's I love games. You can name NPCs like I love that.
Speaker: I did a lot yap, but I apologize. I mean, all good. That's what this podcast is for. It's for gapping. ah Well, with that, it's time for us to now move into the bonus level and start closing things out on today's episode.
Speaker: Crazy lists, great deals, and recapping gaming history. It's all here in the bonus level. Starting it off in the bonus level. It's Game Class, which is our little tournament of ah specific things that our guests guest gets to decide the winners of and who progresses on to the finals.
Speaker: ah Today's theme, Brisky, is the Dead as Disco original soundtrack tracks. Oh, easy. Okay. Are you ready? Yep. All right. Match one, Faith versus Mission.
Speaker: Oh, I like I love the really fast part in faith. But I think mission has like punchier lyrics. so I say mission. All right. Match two echolocators versus Subway Asylum.
Speaker: Oh, that's tough because I really like both of them. ah I again, I think the lyrical composition and the the the feeling of echo locators is just stronger. Okay.
Speaker: Match three authority versus chaos control authority. i love chaos control a ton. But no, just not evenly. That's not a fair match for that one. And match for Rhythm Divine versus Rory Venge.
Speaker: ah Help me out. Is Rhythm Divine her boss theme? Or is that a different song? Rhythm Divine is her ah her boss theme. Oh, yeah. Her boss theme slaps.
Speaker: All right. City finals mission versus echolocators. Ooh, that's not fair. It's gotta be Mission, man. I love me for some profit.
Speaker: All right. And Authority versus Rhythm Divine. Authority. All right, grand finals. Mission versus Authority. Gotta be Mission.
Speaker: Oh, wow. Authority is a goaded song, but I cannot stop listening to Prophet, man. I just... Mission goes so hard for no reason. Okay. Now this is a bit of pointless prediction that I do want you to make because by the time this episode comes out, the update, ah the new summer update will be out for Des Disco where we do know a new track will be added.
Speaker: Who's doing the new track? Um, I think is goodnna everybody. No. Okay. So Is Hemlock's is Hemlock's maniac in the game?
Speaker: Yeah. Like, yeah. ah Like the punk version. Yeah. The punk version. Yeah. Oh, no, there's a version where Hemlock is the singer. Oh, I'm pretty sure it is in the game.
Speaker: Okay, so I think everybody except Aurora has three songs now. No, Prophet doesn't. Prophet only has two. He is Mission and Faith. Mission and Faith, yeah.
Speaker: I think Prophet's going to be, we're going to get a summer rap is going to feature maybe like one of the others. i Oh, yeah. I think it's going to be like, realistically, I think it'll be a ah ah a Prophet Aurora song.
Speaker: I would love ah love if it was Prophet and Decker. That would be cool, too. Because Ovi has her song with Hemlock. I would be sick, but I don't think Dex is going to get a new song with this one, considering he got verses in the last update. Correct.
Speaker: But ah I do think i do think you're right, though. I do think it's going to be. I think it just think you know what I think would be cool if they did this. I think if they i would I would love them to see release two songs, both of them being like a profit Aurora combo, one of them being original and one of them being a cover of Love the Way You Lie.
Speaker: OK, OK. So as a professional Aurora hater, the That would go so hard, dude. I know, right? That would unreasonably hard. i know. I really hope that one of the devs just stumbles upon this podcast is like, that's a good idea. Let's why why don't we do let's ah let's ah let's go hit up Marshall Mathers to get some licensing rights here.
Speaker: i would i would i would be so happy, man. I would be a sick fucking song to do, not going to lie. Not gonna lie. There's like I'm like I love like Dennis Disco genuinely might be my game of the year. Same like hardcore same. I adore this game.
Speaker: i am waiting feverishly for every update. I've already commissioned so much art of my boy dressed like Charlie Disco. I'm obsessed. but Honestly, I feel like, oh, fuck, I might try to maybe I'll try to make a Charlie Disco glam. It's FF 14.
Speaker: That'd be fucking sick, dude. what did i Put it on my dancer. Oh, fuck. Hold on. I think I might know what going to try to look up. Oh, my God. I'm going let it.
Speaker: It's going to be great. It's going great. Okay. ah That was the game clash. Moving on to this week in gaming history. ah Here's what happened in the past from August 3rd to 16th, starting off with major events. ah August 8th, 2006, the Daniel holds a 10th birthday Pokemon party at the Bryant's park in New York city. Over 25,000 people attend included is a giant flying Pikachu from the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade.
Speaker: um yeah August 11th, 2001 at Jackie Gowen's Pete Plaza Hotel Las Vegas, Nevada. The Classic Gaming Expo 2001 is held over two days.
Speaker: And August 13th, 1991, Nintendo released the Super and nes in the North Americas. ah The processor is a 16-bit version of the 6502 processor, but the new system cannot use game cartridges from the original Nintendo Entertainment System. Price is $200 roughly, includes two controllers and Super Mario World.
Speaker: oh my God. Games are more expensive than an entire console now. Oh my God. Yeah. As for some game birthdays on August 3rd, Doom 3 turns 22. On the 8th, Dead Rising turns 20. On the 10th, Jurassic Park turns 33. On the 11th, Chrono Trigger turns 31. On the 13th, Street Fighter 2 Turbo Hyper Fighting Edition turns 33. Oh.
Speaker: On the 14th, Darksiders 2 turns 14. On the 15th, Observer turns 9. And on the 16th, Chrono Cross turns 26 and the Sonic Gems Collection turns 21. Hot damn.
Speaker: ah Moving on to Tony's game poll. This is our seasonal poll. That is a different question every season. Brisky, what sports should Mario play next? And he cannot play a sport that he has already played.
Speaker: Oh, yeah, dude. Easy wrestling. That's a good one. A hundred percent. Like I'll go to see like heel Waluigi. Heel Wario, heel Bowser, baby face Luigi.
Speaker: Yeah, yeah. Mario, Mario, Super Mario Slangers. Super Mario Slammers. That's a great title, actually. Like, you should copy get that copyrighted so that way Nintendo pays you for that when they eventually get around to it.
Speaker: but ah Your deals of the week, starting off with your epic free games ah ju until August 30th. You can grab Ocho and Sol Kesto or Sol Sesto for free. And then the 6th to 13th, you can get Beacon Bines and We Were Here Together.
Speaker: ah so Some Steam sales that you can take advantage of until August 6th. You got the Marvel's Spider-Man sale. ah deliver It's amazing. Until the 13th, you got the Bethesda 40th anniversary sale.
Speaker: Until the 12th, you got the Octopath Traveler sale. And up until the tenth you've got the Warner Bros. Lego sale. And of course, on PlayStation sales, the summer sale is taking place until August 12th. Your Achievement of the Week is in Halo campaign evolved. It's mythic, which is to complete the campaign with Lasso enabled.
Speaker: And the game of the week to nobody's surprise. I've been talking about it a lot. Non-stop. It's big walk. Finally here. That's my game of the week. ah And brisky, if there's a game older, new that you would recommend to the audience right now, what would that game be?
Speaker: I feel like den this goes too easy. ah game Game recommendation. Rift of the Necrodancer. It's the Guitar Hero-esque spinoff of Crypt of the Necrodancer. Music slaps. There's so many collabs if you like all sorts of music.
Speaker: Think Guitar Hero, but more engaging. There's clicking buttons because instead of like buttons coming down the threads, it's monsters. and Each monster has its own pattern. So take Guitar Hero and cross it with ah Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory, because that's what you do in Melody of Memory is you fight Heartless to the beat. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker: So yeah, Rift, one of my favorite games of all time. It's so fun and it's still getting updates. Nice. All right. Well, with that, Brisky, ah that does it for our time here in the game lounge today.
