Introduction and Podcast Evolution

00:01:21
Speaker
Welcome to the Beyond Aesthetics Podcast. We are so excited that you are here and we're excited because it is just Jess and I and you today on the podcast. We have had so many amazing guests lately on the podcast and it has been so cool to hear their story and to get to know them and bring them into this community. And I'm really excited that it's just me, you, and our listener today.
00:01:53
Speaker
So welcome. I'm your host, Tiffany Orr, and this is my beautiful co-host. My name is Jessica Peterson. And we are the the Beyond Aesthetics. We're kind of just, you know...
00:02:06
Speaker
shooting it today. ah Kind of with the flow. We are going to go with the flow. We didn't really chat too much before this doesnt hit record. Usually we have a conversation, but this morning we were like, whatever, but we're really excited to connect with you. um because what we've been doing, the membership is just Tiffany and I on those extra podcasts, but it has been a minute since it's just been you and I on our regular podcast. And We both love how the podcast is evolving. You know, it's so amazing bringing in just incredible guests and talking about so many cool things. And um yesterday we kind of randomly decided to take this opportunity to put out an episode that was just you and i And so I'm excited. I'm excited too. And we have lots to talk about. We, I think we have lots to, mean, we're going to talk about some cool things today anyways, but we do have, um, have had so many cool things happening lately, especially with the membership.

Business Focus and Growth Strategies

00:03:06
Speaker
I had a chance to talk about here.
00:03:07
Speaker
Yeah, we've definitely restructured the business. I made some huge changes and we don't know where it's going to take us. We do know where it's going to take us, but there's still like questions that I'm so happy with where things are at and putting our focus into two main places for now.
00:03:29
Speaker
Absolutely. It was really good. It feels really good. It feels good to finally feel like we've got a strong foundation and feel like we've got strong footing with exactly what we're doing. And I think that's just true with any business that you start. It's just you kind of do it and you figure it out and you see what works and then you realize what maybe doesn't work as efficiently or effectively or even financially.
00:03:53
Speaker
And then you pivot and adjust and you and I are so good at pivoting. I'm just really proud of us because we are fast pivoters and i think we're great leaders in that. We don't, you know, if something not to say that what with the be beyond aesthetics, not to say that it wasn't working, but we did realize some things were as efficient for our own time and energy. And then what we were able to give with, you know, who we were coaching and mentoring. yeah And so man,
00:04:22
Speaker
90 degree pivot. ah And I think that's just how you grow and that's how you get better and that's how you get successful. and We're definitely not the types to feel like we need our ducks to be in a row before we make decisions. We often will make them on the fly. um And sometimes we, I mean, i think what's so unique So you guys know my grandpa passed away recently and it's funny how when someone passes away, you learn more about that person, you know?
00:04:51
Speaker
i know. It's so creep yeah like you're kind of used to them being there. Right. And then, um, then they pass away and you learn their entire life. And you learn so much

Personal Stories and Inspirations

00:05:03
Speaker
about them. And Tiffany knows this, but i honestly thought it was so funny. My grandpa's um program for his services on the very front, it had like his top two or three quotes or whatever. And the last one on there literally said, we will proceed as if we know what we are doing.
00:05:23
Speaker
I was like, oh, that's where I get this from. And I took a picture and sent it to Tiffany. and I was like, everything makes so much sense now. I get it from my grandpa. And I just thought that was so funny because it really is kind of how we are. And I love that about us.
00:05:39
Speaker
I love that we're totally open to just making the changes and we don't feel like we have to have everything figured out. We just know that there's a calling, there's a message, and there's a strength that we have and things that we want to share. And then we really allow...
00:05:55
Speaker
I don't know, life or as we go to just like figure figure things out. And I do really believe that that's a superpower. I do too, because ah there's so many people that I know personally in my life that that don't maybe have the courage or their permission or the maybe sometimes the balls to do to make changes and to not stay stuck and just take messy action. yeah And so it is really empowering. And I feel like you and I give um the people close to us and then also this community permission to do the same my by the way we operate. Yeah. You're never going to figure things out unless you just do it.
00:06:37
Speaker
and you can You can sit and you can plan and you can worry and you can worry about it as long as you want. And it's still, you know, sometimes not going to come together until you take that take

Rapid Fire Questions with Jessica

00:06:47
Speaker
that leap. So, yeah.
00:06:49
Speaker
Yeah. So things are good. So
00:06:54
Speaker
let's do some... i what i have i I have some rapid fire questions to ask Jess this morning. She doesn't know what they are and she's stressing about them. I can tell. But...
00:07:07
Speaker
I and so excited to ask her these. They're going to be easy. So let's do rapid fire for you. And then we'll do some check-ins. And then we'll we'll let our listener know exactly what this membership community is. Okay. And like, by the way, i did this to Tiffany. I know. But it was on a membership episode. So you guys wouldn't have heard it. And so i was like, if she does this to me now, I've just kind of been waiting for it They're going to be so good. Okay. First question. What was your favorite part about our Eminence conference that we had last week?
00:07:43
Speaker
The people. I literally had all of the people that I love the most in one place. And that was amazing. Right. So, I mean, you were there. And all of my spa partners, I have such a special relationship with all of them. And then I also got to see spa partners that I don't work with anymore in Utah. And I loved them, right? That was not an easy thing to end that um experience with them. And so I got to see them and then obviously to have our president there and have Brian there and have um My other business partner and my mentor Colette was there and her team was there. It was just like, and then yeah, people that I do have deeper relationships with like Ariel and Rihanna were there. And so having everybody in one place amazing.
00:08:31
Speaker
amazing. Like it was so fun. And I also, um love that you guys got to experience that, right? Like i have experienced that for 13, well, more than 13 years because I was a spa partner prior to that. So I've been going to classes like that since about 2011.
00:08:47
Speaker
yeah um And then there's a lot of people who still haven't experienced because it is it's a whole experience. And so it was really cool for now people that I work with, like my spa partners to get to experience that.
00:09:02
Speaker
It was just really special. It was such a special day. And it was it was my very first a big eminence conference that I've attended. and that was the first time I got to meet Paul Dajar, the president. And it was the first time I met Colette too. It was such an experience that I know will carry with me for the rest of my life. It was very impactful. I learned so much. It was so cool. I agree. The people to meet so many people that I know through social media. Yeah. yeah And like that was yeah me. Yes, that was so fun too, is that you got to meet these people too. And just watching you connect in person with people was really special. And everyone was really looking forward to that with you as well. Yeah, it was. it made my heart so happy. You know, it was cool is because I was sitting with the rest of the, you know, professionals. And then you guys were kind of over in the back or wherever you were. But at one point I looked over I
00:09:59
Speaker
you and Colette and like the rest of that team of your guys's was all over by the door. And I just had like the proudest moment that you guys did this because it was Idaho, Utah and Wyoming. Yep. A couple of people from Montana, someone from South Dakota, someone from even California flew in. Like people were really there from all over this region. Yeah.

Health and Wellness Journeys

00:10:24
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. And I feel like for the most part, you guys as the reps really pulled everybody together. I know Eminence is such a big part of it, but it wouldn't be the same without you and without Colette and without that team and stuff too. And so I'm just, it was just such a like proud moment. I was just like, oh my God, it's going to explode. It was really cool.
00:10:46
Speaker
Thank you. Okay, that was a long rapid fire. Next question. What time have you been going to bed and what time have you been waking up? Are you freaking kidding me?
00:10:58
Speaker
Why? Well, this is something I'm really struggling with. So I don't mind asking this. question I don't mind answering this question. But ideally, my bedtime It's 10 o'clock. Okay. I start winding down at nine. Even if I'm finishing up work, I'll turn all the lights off in my house and, you know, just start to really set the tone or like go and then like on a quick walk. And ideally I'm in bed by 10.
00:11:27
Speaker
Even if that means I don't fall asleep until like 11, but that's definitely a goal that I have is to be in bed by 10 because ideally i love getting out of bed at five. Yeah.
00:11:39
Speaker
It's just, but you know, at the same time, am lacking sleep too. And that's been a problem in my life.
00:11:51
Speaker
Honestly, I'm trying to figure this out right now because ideally I like going to the gym in the morning and getting as much of that out of the way. And then I also have a morning routine that I really love. So five, between five and 5.30 most days is when I'm getting out of bed. But again, I'm also lacking sleep. And so I'm trying to figure out what the heck to do about my sleep schedule, my work schedule. And I think what makes that even harder is I'm an outside girly. And in Boise, um with these coming warmer months, it doesn't get dark here until 10.
00:12:27
Speaker
I know. And so I am not motivated to wind down at nine, you know, not allow it's really tricky actually. Um, but I, so that's kind of my ideal. And at the same time, yeah, I'm definitely lacking sleep and just trying to figure out what to do about it.
00:12:48
Speaker
Well, thank you for being honest. And I asked you for selfish reasons because I'm struggling too with my, I am pretty good about my bedtime routine, But my morning wake up time is like, man, I'm on a struggle bus so hard. I can, I cannot drag myself out of bed.
00:13:04
Speaker
It's been really hard for me too. I was up at five this morning, but yesterday morning I didn't get out of bed until seven 30. Yeah. yeah i was like, oh my gosh, we have a call at nine. We got to get out of bed, you know? ah and Yeah. Yeah. It's, I don't know. I don't know what it is except that It's perimenopause. We both know that we're there and it's something we talk about almost every single day because it's a real struggle when your energy and your brain fog and there's just random things and it's a lot to navigate. like I really don't know the answer, but I'm more tired than I've ever been.
00:13:41
Speaker
Yeah, that's what it is, is I'm still like going to bed at the same time, but like I can't wake up like I used to a couple years ago. And I think that back to a couple of years, like, man, I had like a stacked morning routine and I'd still make it out the door the same time I'm making it out the door now. But I think it's just the exhaustion that's caught up with me. So, yeah, we're navigating it together. And i like talking about it too, because when I do open that door and have the conversation with somebody else, then it does seem to help. At least you're not, don't feel alone, but then sometimes people have other ideas or like yeah help or support too. So we're just bringing this here as well. If you're also in perimenopause, we feel you, Jess and I are going to be 40 this July.
00:14:25
Speaker
And I've been in perimenopause for a solid year, if not a little bit longer. and so- It's tough. It's definitely a thing. Oh yeah. The exhaustion is real and getting out of bed is harder than it's ever been.
00:14:38
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. So we're navigating it together and I'm just hopeful that it's not going to last forever. Yes. yeah Okay. What is your favorite strength training move to do at the gym?
00:14:50
Speaker
Stop. Stop.
00:14:55
Speaker
What, like, what are you we talking lower body? Are we talking upper body? Like, where are we going with this? It can be anything. It can be a move that you don't dread, or it can be a move that is tough, but you're like, man, I get gains from it. I mean, what is something that you're just like, you see it on your gym schedule and you're just like, hell yeah.
00:15:17
Speaker
Hmm.
00:15:20
Speaker
Um,
00:15:23
Speaker
You know, my body does not love lower body day. a It really kind of wrecks my nervous system. It's like a lot for my body. I don't know why. i don't, I mean, I think a lot of girls like love lower body day. So I'll tell you i'm probably like hip thrusts is what I kind of dread the most. Oh, yeah. And it's not that I don't ah love it, but like it really takes that out of me. But I've shifted to actually that being the first thing I do. So I have two different lower body workouts now because I'm trying to balance that better so that I'm not tanking my nervous system during these workouts because lower body is extremely important for like health reasons. Yes. But also for my division, like you just have to have,
00:16:11
Speaker
the glutes, like the new division I'm going into, I'm actually having to rebuild my quads and my hamstrings. So I'm like, okay, what am I going to And honestly, it's worked for me to just like on one of my lower body days, do a quick warmup and go right into my hip thrusts.
00:16:29
Speaker
Okay. So get the heart out of the way. Yeah. And you know, a lot of people when they're building plans, they actually build that at the end of a workout. And I'm like, I can't because by the time that i get there, like they're very important for my physique and for my goals. But if I wait until later,
00:16:48
Speaker
I cannot crush them the same way as if I'm doing them earlier on in my workout and getting that out of the way. And so that's really been working for me. And yeah, it's definitely, definitely hip thrusts.
00:16:59
Speaker
Okay. I could feel you on that for sure. Those that don't stress me out as bad as. Hmm. I don't know. I have few, but it's all lower body. have some interest about lower body. When I was at the gym this morning, I was like, I wonder if she'd let me go to the gym with her.
00:17:17
Speaker
i wonder. I would love that. Let me just see how things are going over there for her. i mean, I'm already feeling self-conscious. like You shouldn't. You shouldn't.
00:17:31
Speaker
I would love that. Are going to come to the gym with me when you're here? yeah Let's do it. Jess is coming to see me in May in a couple of weeks. Again. i Again. The year for salmon for her. Okay. Let's move on.
00:17:46
Speaker
What are you most excited about turning 40 this year?
00:17:51
Speaker
You know, it feels like a whole new part of my life is opening up for me. I was actually thinking about that this morning, like literally an hour ago. it just feels like 30 was my year of,
00:18:03
Speaker
healing and coming home to myself. And 40 feels like this implementation of every, all of the work that I've done, all of the inner work and the inner child work. And um it really feels like a fresh new part of me and part of my life that is, and I think we've said this before, I feel more like myself, that like I was when I was a little girl.
00:18:31
Speaker
And life is just so much more like fun and free and not taking things as serious. And I know who I am. I know what my like standards are. I know. i don't know. it just, it does. It feels like I have moved into the next part of my life in in a better place than I've ever been before internally. Yes. Yeah.
00:18:54
Speaker
Oh my gosh. That was beautiful. Thank you. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, last question. Favorite skincare product right now? It's still the Marine Flower Peptide Night Cream.
00:19:06
Speaker
I don't care. i don't care. i'm ah so obsessed with that stuff. And whenever I hear that someone has not tried I'm like, get out of here. It's beautiful. I haven't been using it for a while, actually. Oh my gosh, I love it so much.
00:19:23
Speaker
So much. What particularly? Since you know ingredients so well, since you know the science behind it, tell us what particularly. Well, the Marine Flower Peptide Night Cream is a dual peptide. Okay, so this dual peptide is two things. It's a rice protein peptide. which is a signaling peptide. And then it's also Satya Inchi, which is another signaling peptide.
00:19:45
Speaker
But what these two peptides do together, I think number one is always like a collagen restructuring, a collagen induction, a collagen intelligence, if you will. Rice protein peptide is also very hydrating. Okay. Now Satya Inchi, that is more of a lifting contouring peptide and it's just completely restructured and changed my face. Like I haven't had cheek filler since 2021 because I've been so diligent, like, I don't need to do that anymore.
00:20:13
Speaker
um But in addition to that, I'm obsessed with algae in our climate. I thought so hyaluronic acid is super necessary. um Physiologically, like you really do need to make sure that you're using that for so many different reasons, like actually beyond hydration, a lot of people don't understand, like hyaluronic acid actually also helps your healing processes and your things within your skin to even be able to like, move for lack of a better term and to, I don't know, the overall functioning of your skin, you need hyaluronic acid. But when it comes to hydration in our climate, algae is where it's at because algae just on its own is hydrated already. It's already hydrating. So the problem with hyaluronic acid in our climate and why people are like, oh, you know, the
00:21:00
Speaker
Strawberry rhubarb, hyaluronic hydrate is like not enough for me. I'm like, well, that's because hyaluronic works so differently, and that it needs water in order to work and we don't have water in our air and we're inherently dehydrated as it is. And so you know, it works and it's, it's really necessary, but it's not as hydrating as I think we would like it to be. So when you're working with algae, algae just is hydrated. It just is hydrating. It already is hydrated. It's already gross and slimy, you know, which is what we're looking for here. And so if you want hydration, I feel like packing the algae into the skin is where it's at. And what's crazy about hydration. Like I loved the posts that you made recently and like to take that a step further. I think what people don't understand about hydration is that
00:21:46
Speaker
ah you oh So here, I'll say this. Once your skin is hydrated, you're like, holy shit. This is what it's like to have normal skin that looks good. It's just true. You know, you really do notice this like overall normalization of the skin. Everything's working better, looking better, feeling better. And that's because we confuse different. dryness and dehydration all the time. Like we're so confused about oil and water and I don't understand why people like struggle so much with that. But I'm like, no, you need to pack water liquid into the skin and algae just in, in our region, it tends to work really well. So with that Marine flower peptide night cream, it's just really the combination of how powerful peptides are and the power of the lifting and contouring that you get with that. but also the extreme amount of hydration. It literally feels like just giving your skin this big creamy moussey drink of water.
00:22:45
Speaker
mousse mousse is a good description for that texture. Such a weird texture. i me mooses Okay. yeah That was a wonderful explanation. I feel like we got to segue right into the membership though, because of that amazing little blip about peptides that you just gave.

Beyond Aesthetics Membership Overview

00:23:06
Speaker
And we have continuing education starting next month in May as part of our membership community. And I think we just need to segue right into that. Yeah. By the time that we air this, it will have started.
00:23:21
Speaker
Already, because it starts this Friday. Yeah. And this will air on the 4th, and we're starting on the 1st. And so the 1st of every month, we're going to be doing continuing education. And because I'm obsessed with peptides, and it's such a huge thing in my role with Eminence right now, we just decided, let's start with peptides. And the way that the continuing education is going to be structured is, for example, on May 1st, I'm going to be posting a video And then I'll have at least one supporting document, if not a couple of supporting documents. And then we're going to continue with that subject all throughout the month. And so um one of us or both of us will come in with the subject or like lead with the subject, but then it's in a certain channel in the membership so that then everybody who's in the membership can also post everything that they also know about, you know, peptides or whatever the subject is And then also all of their favorite you know products for that and links to ah you know other educational material and videos and and stuff like that. And so our continuing education, I think, will be really cool because it isn't just you and i It's really going to be also everybody else in the membership who knows about that particular topic as well.
00:24:33
Speaker
And we'll be able to chime in because it's its own segment within the membership. Yeah. Absolutely. I'm really excited about it. And it just takes, well, as you know, with estheticians, like continuing education is a goal for most estheticians. It's not always at the forefront. Maybe it's not affordable. Maybe there's just a timeframe aspect that you know, the dedication that comes with it. So what I'm so excited about to bring that continuing education to this particular membership is where it's just going to be here. It's just like another, like you said, supporting resource for our members um to access all the time. And then again, bring in their own um area of expertise within that or their own resources. And it just is so powerful. I'm really excited that we're starting with peptides. I told Jess yesterday, I'm really excited to still be a student too learning more about peptides because they're just so fascinating. There's so much about them that I still, even 14 year esthetician, don't fully understand. um And yeah, but they're so necessary for the skin and they're powerful. And yeah, it's really cool.
00:25:46
Speaker
Yeah, we're excited. i Yeah, let's let's talk about the membership. Let's just, I've talked about it on every outro for a while now, but it's always been me and my words. And so I would love just your take on it and what you would have our community know about the membership.
00:26:08
Speaker
Well, i mean, like Justin, I kind of mentioned at the beginning of this episode, the membership is something that we launched um mid April. So not no, mid March. future Yeah.
00:26:20
Speaker
um So basically a little over when we're recording this a month ago. Yeah. and where we're just basically funneling now all of our coaching and all of our mentoring aside from this podcast. And so it's just been this really beautiful experience to kind of filter everybody into the membership and all of the estheticians that have joined. It's just like made my heart so happy to see the community that the community within the community, right? Yeah. And we have estheticians of all walks. We've got spa owners, we've got brand new estheticians, we've got seasoned estheticians, we've got employee estheticians, solo estheticians, like all different walks. And what's really cool, I was thinking about it yesterday is, you know, there doesn't seem to be a
00:27:15
Speaker
a even a disconnect with all of these different types of estheticians, everyone is so connected, which is really, really cool. Um, I don't know, it's just come together so beautifully. And it's they our platform that we're using is really easy for us to navigate, to lead this and then for the members to navigate as well. You can post pictures, you can post videos, you can ask questions.
00:27:40
Speaker
There's links, there's gonna be links to our classes coming up. There's just like so much. It's very interactive, I guess, is what I'm trying to say. And so it's just been a really beautiful process to, watch unfold and it's still growing really rapidly and I'm really excited about that and you know that's our goal. Our goal is to connect estheticians from around the world and bring us together and raise the vibration of our industry that we love so much and support one another in everything that we're doing and then create, you know, deeper impact with the women and the clients that we serve. And so it's just been, i don't know, it's just been kind of a very full circle experience for us to be like, oh, this kind of makes sense what we've been doing. We haven't really known exactly what we've been doing. We've just followed that calling, like you said, and then here we are and we're like, okay, yes. And we're not even at the end of the road, but we're like, okay, the road is starting to make sense.
00:28:43
Speaker
Yeah, I agree. And what comes to me too, is that it's they're like-minded estheticians. And I think that that is kind of where, you know, community it's just more what we've needed, right? Because you can be in a Facebook group, but
00:29:00
Speaker
Who knows who's in the group and how they're going to show up and what their background is. And, you know, this group is just a group that believes in community over competition. And they're very, um,
00:29:16
Speaker
loving and positive and supportive. I mean, there's never been a complaint in any of our coaching. There's no, I don't know. It's just so different. And, and I think that that is what our industry has needed. And i think when you say raising the vibes of the industry, like we really are rising together to a more evolved esthetician that believes in that and is here to just love and support and raise the industry as a whole. And I always love it when you say um, her success is my success. And that's very much the mindset that we have going on over there. Um, let let's tell everybody what is available in the membership so that there's a more clear understanding of what's really coming with the membership and everything that, that, you know, $47 per month, um, gets them.
00:30:04
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely. So I We have our rising member offer right now. And like you said, that's $47 a month. And um with that comes you get one exclusive podcast episode a month. And that comes out on the 15th of every month, correct? And so um that's really cool. And then you also get a live call every month and that comes out on the first Monday of every month. So that's something that you can plan ahead and just go through and mark your schedule off. It will be the first Monday of every month without fail. So you can go in the next six months, the rest of the calendar year and make sure you have that time blocked off. And that's from nine to 11 a.m. Mountain Standard Time. It's nine to 1030. Excuse me, nine to 1030. Don't be surprised if very specific.
00:30:53
Speaker
Quickly, we change it to 11. got confused with our mastermind. I know you're fine. Mastermind. 9 to 10.30 Mountain Standard Time. First Monday of every month. And that's a live call. And so that's really cool as well. So we come together. I was actually, we were both so...
00:31:10
Speaker
pleasantly surprised with how many of our members and are joined that first call. It was a very interactive, very powerful call. And so we can we meet in real time and then our members submit questions and topics ahead of time so that we know what everyone is really needing or what specific members are really wanting us to cover.
00:31:30
Speaker
And then it's also connection, right? There's nothing like meeting in real time to really take that connection further. And then hold on, let's go back and tell them the first. So the podcast episodes are really good. it's So good we just want to tell you the first podcast episode was um how to gain 10 new clients in 30 days without social media.
00:31:56
Speaker
And then the one that's going to be released in May is if we had to start over from scratch, what would we do differently? So the episodes that are in there are also different. You know, they're very intentional. They're very tangible and just packed full stuff. you know, the here and now great information that you can take away and make some big changes. And yeah, like extremely valuable. So I just wanted to throw that in there too. Those are just some examples of what those episodes are like.
00:32:28
Speaker
Yeah. And I would say those particular members only episodes are, are more straightforward and to the point. And like you said, like have lots, of we like, obviously we bring value here to the podcast as well, but then you and I like to talk and then do we have our guests as well. But like those members only podcasts are very straightforward, very, very tangible. We're going to talk about very specific aesthetics and topics. Right. yep And so, yeah, they are very powerful. And again, those come out on the 15th of every month. So that's something that you can look forward to and expect as a member. um Yeah. And they're cool.
00:33:04
Speaker
Yeah. What do we have? So we have the podcast, we have the live calls. And then we just have, so we have the connection lounge, which is really just the main chat room, if you will. It's the main, not the main feed necessarily, but it's the main channel in there where that's where everybody did their intro posts or that's where last Friday was really cool. There was several of us who felt inspired to post different things that we had been through during that week. And it was mind blowing to me. I'm like, yes, this is exactly what this is for. And that's where we post, you know, links to like, Hey, listened to this podcast and it's really inspiring or it's just,
00:33:45
Speaker
exactly what it sounds like. It's a connection lounge. And so that's where you're getting that real 24 seven support that you need and, and also interacting and showing support to everybody who needs it and posting anything that's like inspiring you. And, and that's been my favorite part so far for sure.
00:34:05
Speaker
Mine too. It's kind of like a group chat with your girlfriends, but it's like the aesthetics version, you know, and it's just like, It's, you know, I don't know. It's just been really cool. It's been hard stuff that's come up. It's been very inspiring stuff that's come up. It's been like silly stuff that's come up. It's just like all forms, like a group chat with your best girlfriend, you know?
00:34:27
Speaker
Yes. And yeah, everybody, it's just so cool. The members that have just, they're not relying on you and I only to like comment and answer questions. They're just like jumping in and that's what that, that has been our goal and our intention, you know, and it's just really cool.
00:34:43
Speaker
Yeah, definitely. Okay. So then the next channel that we have would be the continuing education, like we talked about. um And then let's see and there's merch available. Yeah. We are so excited. We have our um Beyond Aesthetic sweat sets, the year of the fire horse. We release those in March as well. And as a member, you get a pretty heavy, heavy discount to get that sweat set top and bottom. And then you get discounts on the rest of Sweet Cheeks University merch, our Beyond Aesthetics tote bags, like all of the above.
00:35:22
Speaker
And so that's a big perk of being a member as well. And then we also have the ah resource bundle. Yeah. Resource library, excuse me Our resource library is so cool. And again, that's just basically resources that we have created or found and compiled over the last couple of years of coaching and decided to just put it all in one place. And so when you join the membership, we suggest that hanging out in there for even just 10 minutes and just to see what's actually available for you. And it's a lot of ah like personal development, professional development, esthetician specific, business owner specific. It's like,
00:36:05
Speaker
A little bit of everything all rolled into one because our coaching is a little bit of everything, right? We love, we look at the esthetician as a whole person. And so the ah the resource library is just a lot of different resources that are all available to you. One of my favorite things in there actually is the list of suggested books and podcasts that we've compiled from every single mastermind group.
00:36:30
Speaker
and esthetician one-on-one coaching over the years. Yeah. And so there's this extensive list of like everything that has helped people personally and professionally and like such a great, I don't know. So there's, there's so much in that resource library. It's really, really cool. It was fun to just dump all those files in there and just be excited for what everybody was going to see. um and then the other part of the membership is our quarterly classes. And if you are a member, you get those for free but those classes are available to everybody and the first one that we're doing is our google class and we'll be talking about that a little bit later so that is another thing that we have implemented that we're really excited about as well and i think that's it i think that those are all of the channels and all of the offers that are in there it's really cool it is really cool and um
00:37:28
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, it's it's so much different than like your Facebook group, your esthetician groups that you see on Facebook or, you know, it's just, um I'd like to pluck those supportive people out of those groups and invite them into the membership. And when I do see one here and there, I definitely will, but they're kind of few and far between. Most of those groups are kind of toxic. They're mean, they'll eat you alive if you ask the wrong thing, you know? And I think they're just a widespread. They're not all professionals in there either, you know?
00:37:59
Speaker
So we're really proud of the membership. We're really grateful for the membership on how it's come together. We're so grateful for our founding and rising members within the membership. And we definitely invite you if this is something that you feel pulled towards or you're looking for community. You're looking for connection. You need support in your sex practice or as an esthetician, no matter what stage you're at. If you're a student, if you're brand new SD, if you're solo SD, if you're an employee, if you're a spa owner, like it doesn't matter. This space is for you. This is who we've created the space for is you.
00:38:37
Speaker
Yes. And you know what? I think it's important that you guys understand. um Even I still get mentoring. Even Tiffany still gets coached. Last weekend, i or sorry, last week after the advanced education seminar, the next day, I had a lot of team building and team education.
00:38:56
Speaker
and it's the same thing even for me 22 years later as a leader in the industry and a lead educator in the industry and consultant and coach and esthetician. And i was so grateful. i was actually in tears when we were going around. It's like it's pretty intimate group, but we were going around just saying what we were grateful for. And i was like, man, i am so grateful but to just be a part of this, you know, little team that we've kind of developed. um for utah washington and then me here in idaho we just have this little posse this little team that colette has built and joined us all together and i was like you know what even in my role as a rep it's lonely it is lonely and i was like i really value this team so much because i think no matter the role that we have in our career there's loneliness to it and you
00:39:51
Speaker
you can be really good at it and still be lonely and still need help and still need direction and still need inspiration. And so i think it's just important to know and understand that um it really doesn't matter where you are in your journey. It doesn't really matter what your role is. we all need love and support, oh especially in this industry, because it's just, it's always evolving and growing and changing and you know, we do, we, we need support and not, so I love what we've created and I can't wait to see it just continue to blossom and grow and see all of our members continue to blossom and grow and just like, oh my gosh, it's such a huge blessing. And, um, I love that everything that we have done has really led to that.
00:40:39
Speaker
Me too. You know, me too. Yeah. Yeah. You know, every, i think every source that I've learned from like successful, whatever it is, very successful person, i think one common thing that they always say is to surround yourself with people who inspire you and who are maybe a little bit ahead of you to help like reach back and show you the way or light the path ahead. And that's what really makes me think about this group is like,
00:41:13
Speaker
That's what we're doing for each other for this membership and for the industry as a whole. And like you said, it does get so lonely sometimes, especially when we're navigating hard things because hard things come up in our business or our practice or in life. And we don't always have somebody in our inner circle that understands.
00:41:33
Speaker
But when we surround ourselves with, you know, a very, like you said, aligned group of similar professionals who understand, maybe they've not been through it, but they can give you some insight or even just some support. Like, hey, I see you and I feel for you and that's hard.
00:41:51
Speaker
Well, I think we get the comment a lot from people that we work with. They're like, my husband just doesn't get it but i'm you're there all the time too. You're like, Ryan said this. And I was like, Ryan. Because he doesn't understand. Yeah, because they don't, you know. And so I love that you mentioned that like our...
00:42:08
Speaker
Our own inner so circle can only show us a certain type of support, but if they're not in that inner world, it it really is a harder world to understand how everything not just functions, but feels because as estheticians, we are more emotional feeling, you know, feminine, like the The emotional side of it all is a lot. And so if you only have your husband or significant other to rely on, that actually is really hard. And believe it or not, it is one of the top things that most like solace traditions struggle with and because their significant other is just like on such a different playing field. They don't understand it unless they're a part of the business, which is like a whole you know hard thing. And so
00:42:53
Speaker
So, yeah, I think having having other estheticians who really can support you. And um i also like what you said about. Mila. She's very Velcro lately. um Just about we are all in different places.
00:43:14
Speaker
Yeah. And so that was also really the point of bringing everyone together as a community is, and that's really from the very beginning, why I even just designed like the mastermind group or before that I called it build and connect calls is I'm like, yeah.
00:43:30
Speaker
you know, so-and-so is really struggling with this thing or so-and-so just went through this price increase. And now this person wants to go on a pricing, do a price increase. I should connect them. And that's really what this is all about too. building the community is we wanted you to connect deeper in that way. And that even our first live call, we watched that happen in real time. you know, the first subject that came up, it just ended up like, okay, what's everybody's top three suggestions for going out on your own? Or what are the top three things you wish you would have known? And then we just got everybody chiming in. And i was like, hell yeah.
00:44:06
Speaker
Yeah. This is it. This is it. I know. Yeah. Connection. I mean, that's just community and connection is just the underlying foundation of what, of what everything that you and I do, even this podcast, you know?
00:44:21
Speaker
Absolutely. Yeah. So yeah, we invite you in where we would love to have you. We will put the link to the membership in the show notes so that you can learn more about it. And then of course, if you have questions, you can reach out to us. You know how to reach us. DM us on Instagram. um And we're we're happy to happy to answer those questions for you. Okay,
00:44:46
Speaker
moving on to so the meat of this episode. is our most frequently asked questions as recent.
00:44:57
Speaker
We've had a lot of questions come up and they're recurring questions. And so we thought, you know what? Let's bring it to the podcast. It's a random list. very When we were compiling this yesterday, I was like, man, this is all over the place. All over the place. But what's funny is that they are reoccurring questions. Like it's been asked more than once by different by different people, whether it's members or on Facebook. In our DMs on social media.
00:45:24
Speaker
Yeah. And even for me during trainings. Okay. So I'm kind of bringing, you so these are coming from many different places um recently. And so that's kind of fun and random too.
00:45:34
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely. So the first most frequently asked question that we've been getting, I've been getting this one a lot is finding a job for estheticians, how to find a job as a brand new graduate.

Career Advice for Estheticians

00:45:49
Speaker
And that seems to be a major struggle, especially i think if you're in a bigger city, surprisingly enough. Um, and so You know, I've got some suggestions. What, what is your top suggestion, Jess? Um, you'd, I want to hear what you you have to say, because um you're really the one getting this question more surprisingly enough, even though I specialize in working with students, I am not getting this question recently as much. And so you're getting it a lot. It's a lot because you, yeah you asked me about this a week or two ago.
00:46:24
Speaker
Yeah. A couple of weeks ago. A lot. I can think of three estheticians off the top of my head that I know well that one has been looking for a job for over a year, a year and a half. One has been looking for a job for going on seven months and the other somewhere in the middle of that.
00:46:44
Speaker
And I'm just like, dang. So i mean, my first recommendation is like, go hit the streets. It's really about connection and getting yourself in front of people and not just relying on technology to try and connect you know yourself with those people. You've got to go in real time. You've got to go introduce yourself. You have to put yourself out there.
00:47:04
Speaker
And that's true with it getting any job, mind you. i think it's just like the mother in me that comes out. I'm like, well, you know, how many spas or how many places have you gone in and actually introduced yourself and shook their hand and asked to speak to the owner and asked if they're hiring and not stopped at like, you know, the manager at the front desk but that says, no we're not hiring, you know,
00:47:26
Speaker
go deeper. Say, who can I talk to do a little bit of investigating work? Like who is the owner of that spot? Who is the manager asked to meet with them? Like, there's just so many things on just that alone that I'm like, and like, don't get about.
00:47:41
Speaker
I also recommend on like setting your sights of like, well, where do you want to work? Right? Are we just looking at like your surrounding area? And this is what's available closest to you and they're not hiring or like, where's your dream job? Where do you see yourself? What's your niche? What do you, you know, if you're a brand new esthetician, what is your specialty as you know so far? Like what's kind of lighting you up? What's making you excited? Are you kind of more interested in waxing or do you love doing facials so far?
00:48:11
Speaker
And with that being said, you might, i mean, my recommendation is just get your foot in the door, right? Be willing to do it all. That's you're going to learn. That's how you're going to niche down and really realize what you love to do because school is like aesthetic school. So short anyways, it's really hard to know if it's a passion for you or not.
00:48:33
Speaker
And so just be very willing to kind of get your foot in the door. So my, so to kind of summarize that and like know what you want, look at what, where do you really want to work? And then, and, or like, do you want to go on on your own? And maybe it's been fed to you by school or family or people in your life that you can't succeed going solo.
00:48:55
Speaker
And so if that's something that like you want to go solo, but you've got this fear coming up, um, that's where we need to work through that as well. Like, what are those fears? Is it just people in your head that are telling you, you can't, and that you'll fail and that it's going to be hard. Or do you want to go work for somebody else and really gain that experience? And then what what type of places do you want to work at and what aligns with you as a person, as your core values, where you kind of fit in?
00:49:23
Speaker
And then go hit the streets, go connect with them, you know? And just like don't, I see so many young young girls give up at the first couple no's. Oh yeah.
00:49:34
Speaker
You know, and it's just disheartening. And I know that feeling of like feeling like every door is closed in front of your face and you've worked so hard in school and now you've graduated and now you're licensed. And then it's like, okay, now I get to do what I've been training to do. And then you can't do it So I know that can be very frustrating. And I'm just like, every single no is leading you to where you're meant to be.
00:49:59
Speaker
Right. And so I'm like, no's are a good thing. Actually, their redirection is a great thing, you know, and no, Even if you like had your heart set on a no is a no for a reason because you're not meant to be there.
00:50:15
Speaker
But that doesn't mean we give up. That doesn't mean that you throw this this education away. It doesn't mean you go get a job, you know, doing somewhere something else and go, you know, completely career pivot. Those no's don't mean that it's a no overall. It just means that it's redirecting you to to the right fit.
00:50:35
Speaker
so So that's my advice that I've been giving when this question has come up. Well, I would second that because I think that is, you're right, the biggest problem is you're not going, you're not trying hard enough, you're not going deep enough. um I started as a spa attendant and I had another job at the same time. You know, I was like managing a beauty supply store and then i i wanted a position and a resort it was 45 minutes away from where I lived. And I was making minimum wage being an attendant and a receptionist at the same time until an esthetician position became available. And then it was still very part time.
00:51:15
Speaker
You know, um, and I think that that happens all the time and I think it's a good thing. i couldn't be more grateful that that was my story because i understand how a spa runs. I understand how the different positions function and the different, um, things that, that can come up in each position. And so, yeah, I think try harder.
00:51:40
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, like really try harder. And it's really easy when you take your resume in somewhere for the first person to receive your resume, give you an answer that may or may not be completely accurate. um Let's say your resume goes into a pile.
00:52:00
Speaker
you know There's a lot of turnover in this industry too. yeah So you kind of want to be at the top of that pile. And that means you do need that face-to-face interaction and connection and follow-up phone calls. yeah And making sure, like I really made sure that that spa knew who you were. the one. yeah Whenever you're ready, I'm the one. you know And eventually they were like, would you be willing to just start here?
00:52:27
Speaker
And then we can move you into aesthetics position when it becomes available. And i was like, yes, yes, whatever, you know? And so sometimes I think even if you have to have a couple part-time jobs or, yeah you know, it happens that way for a lot of people, there's so many different scenarios, but honestly, you have to try harder and you just have to make those connections and be super professional and, you know, dress up nice and go in and, If that, if the owner or whoever does the hiring is not available, that's okay. Drop your resume and then call them the next morning or ask for their email address. You just want to be the one, like, I think what people want to realize is that owners get a lot of resumes. Yeah.
00:53:12
Speaker
Physically, digitally, you really want to be the one that stands out because, and how you do that is by letting them know you really want it yeah You're willing to work hard. That's how I've got every job that I've had. Every single one that has led me to where I am today is that i just let them know. I'm like, I'm willing to start wherever you need me to start. And I want this so bad.
00:53:40
Speaker
I really want that. and come in with the attitude of like, you're going with that same attitude, basically like you're willing to start wherever you're willing to do what it takes to join this team, do research about the company itself and know what what they offer, know what their for values are, know what their service menu looks like, do a little bit of research because that owner is going to ask you those things like, why do you want to work here? And so you better be able to actually answer if and when you get that interview
00:54:11
Speaker
um And also like, make sure you're supportive of that spot too. If you really want to go work at that particular spot, are you following them on socials? Do you support their content? Slide into their DMs all the time, make yourself present.
00:54:25
Speaker
You know, if it's been, you know, three or four months, drop your resume off again. Because like you said, there is a lot of turnover and there's always a stack of resumes coming into, especially I think well-established companies where, you you know, they're kind of like, everybody kind of want work there if that's something that a place that you want to work as well. But let me tell you a little secret.
00:54:48
Speaker
Spas are always hiring, whether they are or not. owners or managers are always looking or scouting for because like you said, there is turnover, there's always going to be in this industry. And so as an owner myself, I'm always looking for talented professionals to join my team, whether right now we actually have an opening Or if I'm like, okay, if and when, or somebody's going on maternity leave or X, Y, z then I know I've got like a, my stack of resumes or I've got my potentials picked out. So sometimes you just kind of have to wait that out too. But if it's the right fit and if you have so much to offer our particular business, they're probably going to make room for you because they're not going to want to miss out on the opportunity of you either.
00:55:38
Speaker
It's true. That makes sense. So, I mean, we're always hiring whether we are or not. It is absolutely true. Yeah. I work with spa owners. I it's true.
00:55:49
Speaker
Yeah, it's true. Yeah. Okay. Don't give up Work harder, and work harder and don't give up Yeah. Your presence, your professionalism. And I think your determination is really where it comes down to. Yes.
00:56:06
Speaker
And your willingness. Yes. Hey, all right.

AI and Business Growth

00:56:11
Speaker
Next frequently asked question, ai for esthetician. How to utilize AI, how to make it work for you and your business or your practice. Yeah. I had to keep this one pretty simplified because I would love to teach a class on this actually. um I think there's so many different ways that we can implement it. And before i getting into the answers that I have, I also think it's really important to not over utilize AI either. We all need to still use our own creativity and our own voice as often as possible and be as genuine as possible. So you don't want to overdo AI either. And so here's what I came up with that didn't have anything to do with
00:57:02
Speaker
over utilizing AI and pretending like it's you when it isn't. I didn't want any of those types of answers basically. Okay. So here's, here's what we've got um systems and structures. So use AI to organize and streamline basically how your business runs. So use it to build your SOPs, your services, policies, and workflows um to create clear service descriptions and menus. I do that all the time.
00:57:29
Speaker
And it's amazing what it will spit out for me and help me with. um Also mapping out the client journey steps from booking to service to reten retention systems, which is essentially just all systems too. I think that we can use AI, especially if you're using project folders, like if you're using chat GPT, for instance, making sure that you're actually opening one particular project for your spa.
00:57:55
Speaker
Mm-hmm. So I don't need to go too deep into that right now, but on the left-hand side of the screen on chat gpt learn how to use projects. It makes your life a whole lot easier and you definitely want one for your spa as a whole so that...
00:58:12
Speaker
it all stays more organized and learns that particular voice, if you will, or learns that particular branding extremely well. And then um that's a really great way to create your systems because systems are really important and systems are everything from your opening and closing systems to even, you know,
00:58:34
Speaker
even organizing your the samples at the end of the day. like We need systems for everything that we do. And I think AI can help you create those systems and keep those systems really organized. um And then also kind of going along with building those SOPs is creating employee manuals. So I did actually help an owner with this recently. I basically just had AI give me a list of everything that needed to be in that employee manual. And it got it right from the very first try. i literally didn't even need to add anything into it. It was really cool. um So I think that for an owner, so if you're a spa owner, that is going to create more consistency and flow and ease across the business. Now, if you're an employee,
00:59:21
Speaker
um Using those types of things, the SOPs, the service sub descriptions and menus, if you're an an employee, that is going to help you to operate more professionally and efficiently. And that as a whole is going to remove chaos and elevate the entire experience. So I think AI, when it comes to your systems and structures within the business or as an esthetician and whatever your role is for the business, um is wonderful. Yeah.
00:59:47
Speaker
I think the next most important part is content and marketing consistency. I think anyone who is utilizing social media a lot in their business or even email marketing,
01:00:00
Speaker
no And even text marketing, you should be using AI. Like AI can create um whole content calendars for you. You know, ai can take one subject and turn it into many newsletters and many, many pieces of content. And so ai is going to help you show up consistently without overthinking it. Just let it do it for you, um especially if you're really good at using prompts.
01:00:28
Speaker
Yes. With AI. So it can generate post ideas, captions, and email drafts, turn your knowledge into structured content, and help you batch and plan ahead, which is so important. So if you're an owner, that will help you to maintain brand presence and team alignment. And then if you're an employee, that's going to build visibility and demand. And so that will solve your inconsistency, but not creativity, right? So you're still bringing your ideas to the table, and then you're letting AI flesh that out for you and plan it for you.
01:00:58
Speaker
Yeah, I like that, flush and plant. yeah Because we have, like, obviously, we have so many ideas. And actually, we talk to estheticians all the time where they're like, I have all these ideas. But i actually, getting it there the struggle. It's not the ideas. It's not the creativity. It's executing them. yes This is where ai I can just be your best friend. You just plug all those ideas into say chat with your voice and your very specific prompts and then let it spit it let it do that hard work for you and then it takes just the guesswork out it takes the overwhelm out it's just it's i don't know how we'll ever go back yeah
01:01:39
Speaker
You know, it would be hard. It would be hard. It would be hard. So I do love AI for content and marketing consistency as well. And then I think the last thing is, and there's many more. i really have to simplify this because it's a subject I can go into depth on um AI for strategy and growth decisions. So basically just using AI to think smarter instead of working harder. And honestly, Tiffany and I, that's probably what we've utilized AI the most for is, working smarter and not harder. And then, you know, giving certain prompts or just saying like the different things that are going on within the business and allowing AI to guide us in the direction that is more in alignment with where we want to be. That's how the membership came to be.
01:02:26
Speaker
yeah to be honest, it was a conversation that I had had, i think on my way home for, from Christmas, I was like having a conversation and I don't even remember how it started that I was having with chat, but the membership was the answer and it helped us flesh out the entire experience, even down to what to charge and what to include in the membership. And obviously we added, right But, um If it weren't for AI and how well we've learned to utilize it, we wouldn't even have the membership at all. So that's interesting. We'd also still building the membership.
01:03:02
Speaker
We would also still be working on building it if we didn't have it. 100%. It would take us a really long time. It's true. And, you know, to your point... um So we use Kajabi and I rely on Kajabi's AI.
01:03:18
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, that is how whenever I need to get in there without Tiffany and build something, I've had to really rely on ChatGPT and their AI to help me build that too. And so I'm definitely very grateful for that aspect of AI with a lot of our different computer programs and booking systems and whatever. I mean, the amount that I ask ChatGPT, about
01:03:44
Speaker
Kajabi or oh or like Square or whatever. It just... It's really nice to just have that available real quick. But um now this is another thing. So if we're saying strategy and growth decisions here, this is something that I do for my spa partners is I brainstorm promotions and offers. um I actually built within 30 minutes an entire spring and summer promotion,
01:04:13
Speaker
planning handbook for all of my spa partners, i just quickly utilizing AI, double checking everything, kind of prettying it up and making sure it all really worked and would be easy to implement. And that only took me 30 minutes. It was really cool.
01:04:28
Speaker
um And then I think refining pricing and service structures, identifying gaps in your business. So obviously for an owner, that makes clear, more profitable decisions. And then if you're an employee, that is going to increase performance and income potential. Like even if you're an employee, you can have a conversation with your chat about your position and how to, um,
01:04:51
Speaker
you know grow within it or strategize and many, many different directions that I could take that conversation. So basically it can just help you take the guesswork out of it and just give you more tangible direction and answers.
01:05:07
Speaker
Absolutely. yeah And I would add with all of these, um all of these AI ideas, strategy ideas that you just shared when it comes to owner and employee, like If you're an employee and your owner maybe isn't utilizing ai bring some of your ideas to your owner and vice versa. As an owner, you can bring that to your team and be like, hey, we need to work on XYZ. Can you work with chat and do blah, bla blah, blah. And then I just think it creates such a powerful, more powerful relationship with the owners and the employees when we can like strategize together. So if you're an owner and you are
01:05:46
Speaker
using AI, like, don't be afraid to have these conversations with your team and like help them utilize AI to with their aesthetics practice. Because you know, no matter what, whether you're an owner or an employee, the goal is for the business to succeed so that everyone can succeed. Because if the business isn't succeeding and profiting and doing well, then no one is or it's hurting potentially everyone. And so my best advice ah would be to like, don't be afraid to have those conversations.
01:06:15
Speaker
no matter which position you are in as an esthetician and then work together yeah with it. i agree. I've also started utilizing or I've started talking to my chat with my microphone. That's been such a game changer for me, especially as I'm having this creative ideas and say like, you know, I'm not at my computer. And so I'll just like talk it. I'll just blah, word vomit it into chat. And then have it bookmark it or whatever so I can come back to later or it will spit it out right then and there for me instead of taking the time to like type it all out and whatever. So I think that's been a little bit of a game changer for me that I started doing too.
01:06:57
Speaker
That might be helpful for others. Yeah. I agree with that. If all else fails, ask chat GPT how it can support you in your esthetician business. Yeah. So you don't even need to go into it with like specifics. You can just say, what can you do for me? How could you help me? Yeah, absolutely. literally Like there's nothing you can't ask AI. It knows everything that's ever been on the internet.
01:07:24
Speaker
Yeah. So, and you know, it's a very supportive tool. And so you can either, you can either work with it or, you can not and kind of get left behind. And I think, you know, not to like drive in any fear in anybody. It's not definitely not a requirement, but it's just a, again, like a work smarter, not harder tool that we now have. And so you can jump on the AI train or not, but that train is going to leave the station regardless with or without you.
01:07:52
Speaker
That's kind of how technology is going to anyways. hey next frequently asked question.

Alternative Business Growth Tools

01:08:00
Speaker
Social media burnout.
01:08:04
Speaker
I think everyone needs to know that it's common. Yeah. And that, uh, our inspiration for it can come and go in waves and that's the problem. So i just think everybody needs to understand that there's too much focus on it. And I want you to know that estheticians were successful before social media was a thing and estheticians would be successful if social media wasn't a thing.
01:08:28
Speaker
Like, what do you think we did before social media? Are you serious? Instagram hasn't been around forever. Yeah. Come on. Come on. So this industry grew without social media.
01:08:42
Speaker
also think if any, if there's any coach out there, anyone that you follow, any esthetician coach, whatever that tells you that social media is necessary for your success, you should run for the hills. Yes.
01:08:55
Speaker
You should run for the hills because it can be a part of your business if you want it to be. but it actually doesn't have to be. Okay. Hasn't always been around and I don't know. So it just drives me crazy. Um, I think that there's just other tools that we have that are so much more important. Right. And if you have coaches who are overemphasizing social media and not overemphasizing connection and service and relationship building, and that's what has to come first. Yeah.
01:09:30
Speaker
Oh, yeah. I mean, there are just so many foundational things that must come before social media. If you're so overly focused on social media that you have no idea how to connect with people in person or give an incredible facial or waxing experience to somebody and you don't know how to converse with people to you know, sell retail and do your follow-ups and rebook people. Like there are so many things to emphasize before emphasizing social media.
01:10:03
Speaker
one of them being Google, which is why we're teaching a Google class. Yeah. Because this is a normal conversation that we have. um And we finally were like, okay, let's set that over here. we are going to teach a social media class, but you know, we kind of had an awakening recently when we taught a Google class to our mastermind group and the feedback on it was so good that we were like, oh okay, why don't we start here? Let's teach a masterclass about mastering Google first and the importance of that. And then we can work into talking more about social media later for the people who do want that to be a part of their business and doing it in a really sustainable, healthy way So
01:10:53
Speaker
what When we do release our social media class, it will be like, unlike any other social media class out there or any other social media strategy, if you will, and that is ever taught because you and i just have such a healthy relationship with social media and we feel differently about it than most. And I think that's why it has been sustainable for us because we're not, you know, we're not emotionally attached to it. We don't, we know deep in our core that it actually isn't the end all be all,
01:11:24
Speaker
And we know we would be just fine if Instagram went away tomorrow because we have built all of our businesses so sustainable with or without it. Absolutely. Yes. Mine was built without it. Um, I think our coaching business was built with it for sure.
01:11:41
Speaker
Um, but not really anymore. No, not necessarily. Like we're to a place now where we, we don't overemphasize it anymore where we kind of did the beginning and now we don't so much, but as an esthetician, that's different. We're talking about an online business. So yeah,
01:11:59
Speaker
That's a completely different story, right? If you're an esthetician, that's not the same freaking thing. It's not the same thing. Well, and even though we built our coaching business through social media, we still have the foundation that was built without it.
01:12:13
Speaker
That funneled, you know, traffic over. And so it was just kind of like this highway that was, you know, exited off of the main freeway. Yeah, so it I will say that yes, it was a big part of it. And we did still build it without it because most of our connection, most of your connections have been in person, you know, anyways, and then your social media following has grown on top of that.
01:12:42
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Um, Oh, what was I going to say? oh I think it's also really important to know how many of us are trying to get away from social media.
01:12:54
Speaker
We're trying to heal. Yeah. Like I'm blocked from social media most of the day. And so, and I am not the only one, right? So now they're making so many apps and so many even physical things to, because people are wanting to block themselves from having access to it.
01:13:11
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Because we are, like you said, like we're trying to heal our nervous systems and take our power back and our focus back and our sovereignty over our lives and realizing that social media has hijacked our brains, it's hijacked our lives. And it can be really good.
01:13:27
Speaker
You know, there's there's two sides of that coin. And so that's another thing that we need to consider is why overemphasize something that more and more people are trying to get away from partaking in.
01:13:41
Speaker
Yes. because we know you and I have both learned that it's just not, it's not sustainable the way so many people operate with social media, the way I used to operate with social media. And that's why I've just kind of taken the left turn from it as well. I've, I used to post so much and I used to be on there so much. And now I'm just like, kind of, i mean, my nervous system is just turned off by it right now. I still love it. i still in the creative side of me still very much loves it. I'm not a slave to it anymore though.
01:14:13
Speaker
Like I kind of had gotten myself into thinking because it's just, and this is where now I've got like this new perspective, like you and I do. And like, there are so many other tools in your toolbox that actually do convert to clients, to bookings, to sales, to actual money and revenue and profit for your business or your practice, where social media is just kind of like such a small percentage of that.
01:14:39
Speaker
But it takes so much energy and it just it's it enslaves you a little bit. And we get in this very social media trap thinking it's the only way because it's just in our face everywhere we turn.
01:14:54
Speaker
Yeah, and there are people who have built their businesses with a reliance on social media, and it makes me kind of sad. I'm like, oh, because now you are kind of like, you're not trapped in it forever. I think you can shift that, right? But I do think it's ah like a cycle that you can get into and that is not recommended.
01:15:15
Speaker
No, and you can you can get out of that trap, but there are steps that you need to take. And that you need to be doing so that if and when Instagram disappears tomorrow or TikTok or whatever platform you're using or relying on for your business, literally we do not own our accounts on those. And I seen it time and time again, accounts will get hacked, they lose all their followers or whatever happens. And then they have to start from the beginning and they have no other foundational aspects to convert
01:15:49
Speaker
people over for their business. Yeah. you Also like, do you have a website? Do you have a Google business page? Do you have referral programs? Like, oh do you have all of these other things that your email list your email list that are so much more valuable to you than social media and your followers? Yeah.
01:16:08
Speaker
Yeah. So join our Google class. The link is in the show notes. Yes. And that Google class is May 18th at 9 a.m. m Mountain Standard Time. Mountain Standard Time. um Somewhere between an hour and 90 minutes. We'll kind of see how many people are there. And a lot of the work that we do is like in real time. It's like real time activity and stuff that you'll be doing in there. um And it's only 27 bucks if you're not a member. But of course, it's free if you are a member.
01:16:42
Speaker
And if you are a member and you haven't seen it, your discount code is in the main feed, in the membership. Yeah, 27 bucks, you will learn so much, I promise you. if and if And I wanna like emphasize this, if you're listening to us talk about this in social media and you're like, yes, this is me, and yes, I need a way out, the Google Class is the perfect place to start. we will That's like, we'll help you hold your hand and get out of the social media trap and heal that.
01:17:11
Speaker
version of yourself. And, or if you're like social media has never been my thing. And I felt this like guilt on having to do it Here's your permission. We are giving you permission. You do not have to operate that way. So join our Google class and, and we'll show you the way.
01:17:28
Speaker
Yes, absolutely. All right. Next frequently asked question, learning ingredients. Yeah, it is a big one. I think that there's a lot of people who are really insecure about their ingredient knowledge. And so this is a question I get at least once a week from estheticians. And, you know, I have to remind people that the best way to learn something is to teach it, is to talk about it. So I sound really smart because I talk about this all day, every day. And so it sticks in my head, right? It's not that I came into this position with all this knowledge. I have to learn a launch experience Just like anybody else does. The difference is I teach it every day, all day long. And so i it sticks. And so I carry that over into what I would do if I were you is pick an ingredient or a skin condition or a particular topic or a particular product. that you're really interested in learning more about, pick that and then do your research on it. Do some self-education. Maybe you use chat GPT and Google. um I love learning through reading other people's reviews. So I always bring that into my learning process. And maybe you have instruction manuals. Like if it's a...
01:18:50
Speaker
a product from a company, you know, dive into the instruction manual, read, read the box, just whatever self-education for that topic that you can possibly find, you know, do that. And then challenge yourself to talk about this more, find somewhere to teach this. If you can, even if that is to your friends, your family, your significant other, tell them these amazing things that you learned um And then I also like within the membership, I encourage people teach us, you know, get into the connection lounge and teach us. That's also why as part of our continuing education, I'm like, then you, so I'm going to introduce this on Friday. I'm going to give you the bulk of the content. And then you're also going to get in there if, and when you want to, and you're going to teach us even more if you have something to add. Right. And so it's about doing your self-education and then repeating it back as often and as in many places you as you can. So if you are really into social media, maybe you turn that into many pieces of content, right? So you're continuing to put that out there. Maybe you create a video talking about vitamin C and all the exciting things that you just learned. So the more you teach...
01:20:00
Speaker
on a particular thing, the more you talk about a particular thing, i think everyone would be surprised that sometimes when I'm talking to you, I'm also working something through in my head. Yes.
01:20:10
Speaker
Same. And I think that's normal. Oh yeah. That's how we learn. We have to verbalize, we have to get it out. And then our brain is able to somehow organize and like fire these neurons. It's a really cool process, how it works. It's very, very scientific. Um, but it works. It works so good. And then I think also just have patience, like have some grace for yourself and knowing that, um, I always have to remind people like being the smartest esthetician does not create success like that. Nope. Because what creates success is connection and relationships. Right. And so being the smartest esthetician does not
01:20:49
Speaker
help you connect relationships with people. It makes you very good at your job. And so I love to use the analogy um but you know, as an esthetician, we should all have this suitcase full of knowledge and we should be adding to it. It's like ever evolving in this industry. And that's really cool. But that's also like with a new client, I'm, and even with the people that I teach, even other estheticians, I don't just open up that suitcase and dump it all over somebody. i trickle information like a little bit at a time. So I start really simple, really basic And then just intuitively, you know, do I need to add a little bit more here or are we good? Like, where's the comprehension at? Because I need to create that connection and meeting people where they are. So that's just kind of the other thing is like, yes, that suitcase is super important. And that's the best way to learn is to teach. But also just don't let your lack of knowledge hold you back either.
01:21:47
Speaker
No, absolutely. It makes me think of like, okay, say we're going to start like a new exercise regimen and we build the workout or we download the app and we have, we know what we're going to do, but actually to get progress and to gain muscle and to burn, you know,
01:22:05
Speaker
all the things you have to do the reps, you have to actually do the work. So same idea, if that may be that analogy helps you of like, okay, you do have to practice and you do have to study it and you do have to practice verbalizing it. And that's how you gain the confidence to really understand the material and the the information behind whatever it is. Like you said, ah an ingredient, a skin condition, a product, whatever it may be.
01:22:32
Speaker
Yep. Yeah. Love it. Love that. Okay. The most important skill to master another frequently asked question.

Mastering Esthetic Techniques

01:22:42
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, and that's just another thing, especially when I'm out working with students, they're like, where does my focus need to be? It's always like the ingredient question. Cause they're like, oh my gosh, you're so smart. and datadatada And then the next one is like, what do I really need to be focused on? And we tell people this all the time. Marty tells people this all the time. Like you got to focus on your touch. You've got to focus on like mastering your facial massage, master your cleanse, master your touch, because that creates the experience and the connection. And if you're really good at your touch, even when you're doing a micro needling service, when you're cleansing, you know, before you put on the numbing cream or even how you're putting on the numbing cream, and then maybe we're massaging their hands while they do it touches such a, it's the biggest part of what we do And that's where you want to start is by mastering your touch. That should start as soon as you start school. That's where your mind should be.
01:23:40
Speaker
Absolutely. And then just continuing to evolve on that, on your facial massage, on your techniques. And staying as you evolve, the only other thing I'll add is staying very present with that too. So like when you do become more masterful and you got some time and experience behind you to not let that go out the window, to always remember that that matters the most, you know? And so as your books get full and as you get busy and as you become more in demand, you want to make sure that that stays so foundational and you maintain that very intentional touch and that we're still doing a very intentional and full facial massage and like adding all of the qualities of touch or keeping all the qualities of touch in your service as well.
01:24:28
Speaker
Absolutely. You know? Yes, very much. The last one is how can I bring more nervous system work into the treatment room without like verbalizing this to my clients? That's like, here's what we're doing, basically. Does that make sense?
01:24:45
Speaker
Oh, yeah, absolutely. It's such a big subject. And I think that we're all starting to realize that that's what we do is like... when we're around people in any capacity, but especially as an esthetician, where it is high touch, the nervous system becomes a really big thing, that energy exchange, right? But a lot of people are like, Oh, I don't necessarily, some people are so like, gonna say it, you know, and this is what we're doing. this is what you're here for. And it's like built into their branding and their experience. But there's many people that I work with who are like, I don't know that I want to be verbalizing it. or if I'm like really comfortable with that, but I definitely want to master this too. And so my answer has just been that it really starts with you, you know, especially in this particular scenario, if it's not something that you want to verbalize to your clients, then you just have to make sure that you're grounded. You, you want to make sure that you're calm
01:25:40
Speaker
You're grounded because this is energy exchange, you know? And so that starts before the client even comes into the room that we've cleared the energy of the space so that they're coming into a more clear space and that we're also not frantic. Don't go get your client if you're in a frantic state.
01:26:02
Speaker
Take a minute and take some deep breaths and fill your feet on the floor before you go get your client and maybe have a mantra. You're like, okay, as soon as I greet my client, nothing else matters.
01:26:14
Speaker
Yes. Except for the here and now. Absolutely. And even me just saying those words, my whole nervous system just came down. Yeah.
01:26:25
Speaker
So then, you know, we take them back into the room and we're talking with a calm voice. Yeah. We're speaking slowly. We're making eye contact. Yeah. Not uncomfortably so. Right. But we have that calm confidence.
01:26:40
Speaker
Yeah. And, yeah. when you come in to start the treatment, there's multiple things you can do. Breath work's important. And I think it is pretty normal to guide them through breath work. don't to chant. You don't even have to meditate.
01:26:56
Speaker
You can simply guide them to take a couple deep breaths. Yes. And then key is matching your breath with theirs too. yeah So I love doing that is as I'm watching them breathe, I'm just matching my breathing.
01:27:10
Speaker
I think another important thing in this particular equation is creating safety. Yes. So what I mean by that is i can't emphasize enough how important this is offering them a silent service.
01:27:26
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Don't. I mean, so many people are like, oh I just kind of read the situation. No, create safety, give them the choice.
01:27:37
Speaker
i always told my clients, this is your time. Just close your eyes. You know, we've just done the breath work. So, you know, keep your eyes closed, take a little nap. This is your time.
01:27:47
Speaker
And you're welcome to make that time, whatever you would like it to be. If you do have questions, if you want an educated treatment, please At any moment, let me know. And even i love it when my massage therapist does that, you know, before we even start, he sits down with me and he says, if at any point,
01:28:07
Speaker
anything needs to be changed, please let me know. I'm here for you today. And it just creates that safety for me to be like, can you please turn off the table? Can you, yeah you know, a little more pressure here, like a little it.
01:28:20
Speaker
So creating that safety as a whole for them to have whatever experience they want, I think is extremely important. Especially if you're close with your clients, because a lot of times we become friends with our clients and then that professional line can get a little blurry. And so there's an expectation maybe that the client feels like they need to visit or they feel like they need to be on. And so we want to definitely, even if we are close friends, we know everything about these clients because they've unloaded on us. We want to still be professional in the fact that it is their time. we are here to serve them however they need us to. And so reminding them, if you see this client on repeat every four, excuse me, four weeks, letting them know, just like you said, like your massage therapist lets you know at the beginning of every massage you have, I think it is so important. You know, you can have a little, cute little card on your treatment room table that's set with a check mark and a little erase pen.
01:29:20
Speaker
silent treatment, or if you're feeling chatty or whatever, you can make it however you want. If that's something that you want to incorporate, if you have a hard time verbalizing that, I think that could be very powerful. However, you can get that across that it is at their time and you're going to meet them where they need you.
01:29:35
Speaker
You know, sometimes they might be chatty the next month. They might not be chatty regard regardless. I think it is true so important. Yes. And then the only last two things that I would add is slow down your movements.
01:29:48
Speaker
Yeah.
01:29:53
Speaker
We're so rushed. I had to unlearn it myself. used to rush through everything and eminence is that way. Yeah. That's how I was taught. I wasn't always like that. And then when I started working with them, it was kind of like that, you know, and now I'm unlearning that as the nervous system is becoming so much more important. And i had a facial recently that was lovely. In fact, I want to rebook with her again, but that was my first experience of like, Oh, slow down.
01:30:22
Speaker
Yeah, there it really is important because she was rushing and so I felt rushed and I can never quite get into, you know, but it was um she's a spa partner of mine and she was giving me a facial for the feedback and so i was like, literally everything was amazing. I think we could slow down our touch and it's something I'm unlearning myself. We should learn together but to you know, slow down a little bit. So I think slowing down your touch really does matter. And then the next thing that I've noticed too, and I don't know if you do this, I'm not sure if I've ever paid attention, but whenever I go to touch, or like begin a movement, I actually gently touch their shoulder first. always
01:31:05
Speaker
So you, you want to introduce your touch before you touch so that there's no shocks to the nervous system. Cause their eyes are closed. I don't know how often they teach that in school anymore, but it was very ingrained in me when i was in school, you always, before you put the towel on, you touch with the towel or yeah know you touch with your hand. So you introduce your touch to warn them. Yeah, exactly. I'm going to touch you. So it's like an introduction before you do your next move that just lets them know, like, I'm here. Now I'm coming
01:31:37
Speaker
I'm coming in. and it you you want to understand this from their perspective. Like if you're laying on the table and you're half asleep, your eyes are closed, you don't want people frantically coming in randomly touching you. You need to introduce the touch before you touch because of the state that somebody's in.
01:31:55
Speaker
that make sense? Oh, it makes so I'm so glad you brought this up because it is actually so powerful and it is the way I've always operated. But i don't know if I've ever talked about it, actually. But like, like, yeah, you like pause almost before you and you're just coming very gently. We don't want to come in and jar them or make them feel like they got to open their eyes to see where you are and what you're doing because they don't know which direction you're gonna come in. And that's also like, we want to try and come in the same time. Every, we want to touch the face the same way every time we come in and we want to leave the face the same time every way too. So that consistency creates safety for the client too. Yeah.
01:32:34
Speaker
Yes. I actually had a client ask me one time, so I always touch the right shoulder. Yeah. It just is a habit. So I'll touch the right shoulder before i then like bring in the product, you know, or put the towel on. And she was like, why, why do you touch me first every time? And i was like, it's really important to just introduce my touch. So, you know, I'm like coming in and she was like, that's so like, it's amazing.
01:32:58
Speaker
It really changed the whole experience for me and made everything just feel that much more cohesive and relaxing. And I was like, I know. I know it makes a huge difference. It really does. It really does create safety for your client. And then, then they can really get into that very Zen state or maybe even fall asleep because they are so comfortable. And that's really our goal. We want them to relax as deeply as possible. Yeah.
01:33:25
Speaker
No matter what treatment we're doing. So yeah, and I will the only other thing I would add to this too going back to our own nervous system is even slowing down the experience as a whole. They're when we greet them at the door, and when we're checking them out as well. And so that kind of can go back to making sure we are scheduling enough time in between appointments to calm our own nervous system and to slow down everything from start to finish, not just the service itself, making sure we have time for them to check them out and talk about products or do X reschedule their appointment, like all of these things. So it's not rushed. So they're not going from this amazing, relaxing service inside the treatment room, but then they're coming out to immediate chaos because you need to flip your room and your next client's already there and all of the above. Yeah. Yeah.
01:34:15
Speaker
Agreed. Yeah. And you kind of can bend time. Like if you'll just chill out yes and stop rushing, you'll notice that time will stretch for you anyways.
01:34:26
Speaker
It's weird. It works. It's weird, but it really does work. If you can just calm down and stop rushing everything that you're doing, you're going to have more than enough time.
01:34:38
Speaker
Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. So those are our most frequently

Financial Awareness and Community Engagement

01:34:43
Speaker
asked questions. The only other question that we get constantly and always have is just finances. Yeah. know And we taught a class about that in our mastermind yesterday, and it's probably a class that we'll teach at some point too. um You know, so the only thing that I would add about finances is bring awareness to them, yeah you know, and that's like really what we hit hard on. We go into a lot of detail with the finances and, um, often figure them out in real time with the people that we work with. But the number one takeaway that i always have when we have that conversation is just bring awareness to your finances in the spa um first.
01:35:25
Speaker
Yeah, you got to know what your numbers are to know where you want to go. And really, like, I ignored that for years in my own skincare business. And then shit kind of hit the fan. And I had to face my numbers. Because I'd been, you know, people were like, you need to learn your numbers. And I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever. And then I had to. And that's really where i figured so much out. And it kind of changed the trajectory of everything. I really had to build that strong foundation and go back and rebuild certain things because I hadn't done it in the beginning and I ignored it for forever. So yeah, when it comes to finances, if you want to start paying yourself, if you want more profits in your practice, if you want more cash flow in your business, you really do have to see where the money is coming in, where it's going out. And then if there's any margin, you know, do you even have any profits right now? And so really just bringing awareness to and getting data out in front of you is the first step.
01:36:22
