Let's Talk Summer Slowdowns | Your Next Best Move

S3 E18 · The Beyond Esthetics Podcast
Avatar
1 Playsin 1 day

Every esthetician experiences it at some point - the summer slowdown. But a quieter schedule doesn't have to mean a setback. In this episode, we're talking about why slower seasons happen, how to shift your mindset instead of spiraling into fear, and the practical strategies that can strengthen your business while everyone else is waiting for things to pick back up.

We'll share the exact fundamentals we return to during slower months, from reconnecting with past clients and increasing rebooking to strengthening retail conversations, refining the client experience, and making the improvements that are hard to prioritize when you're fully booked.

If your calendar feels lighter this summer, this episode is your reminder that slow seasons aren't something to survive, they're an opportunity to build a stronger, more resilient business. The estheticians who continue to grow aren't always the busiest; they're the ones who know how to use every season with intention.

00:01:21

00:01:32
Speaker
We are so thrilled that you are here and we have a really fun and ah valuable episode for you today. Before we get into our episode, we want to just welcome you to the Beyond Aesthetics.
00:01:49
Speaker
If you are a new listener, beyond Aesthetics is basically so much more than... just being an esthetician, just being a business owner, just being a professional or an entrepreneur. it is personal development, it is emotional, spiritual,
00:02:12
Speaker
professional, physical, all

Community and Holistic Support

00:02:14
Speaker
of the things. And we're just really excited that you're here. And we wanna welcome all of our current listeners and community as well. you guys are the backbone of this business and this dream of Justinized. you really are the reason that we keep showing up and having these conversations and continuing to curate and nurture this community that we love so much. So thank you for being here and welcome.
00:02:39
Speaker
I love that so much. I always say beyond aesthetics is the all encompassing support for the esthetician as a whole person, you're going to learn how to navigate your career on every level for you personally, and what that looks like. And we are, you We go into everything and I think that's what makes us so different and so unique is that it's not it's not just one thing, it's really everything. We want you to basically make crap ton of money being an esthetician, but we more than anything also want you to have the most fulfilling career possible. And that's why we created Beyond Aesthetics. And we are so passionate about it. And it just continues to grow and evolve. And we really wouldn't be here if it weren't for you. And that is what keeps us going is this is exactly where you're supposed to be. This is what the industry needs.
00:03:39
Speaker
This is such an important career and something that you said, Tiff, on the last episode that really stood out to me is that this work is like sacred. It's important work. It is sacred work to be an esthetician because we we give so much and we serve so much. And so having the support in every aspect, I think, is just what really makes us who we are and and what keeps us going, too.
00:04:07
Speaker
Absolutely. And it's what creates impact, right? in like, not only our lives, also your life, the esthetician who can then turn and turn your talent and create impact in your clients lives and your family's life and your life. And that's really where it's just it's healing. i think that we're healing. This work is sacred and we're healing ourselves. We're healing our future generations. We're healing past generations. And so
00:04:38
Speaker
Again, like that's, it's so much more than skincare. I've always said that in my own practice. And I believe that here too, it's so much more than aesthetics. It's so much more than skincare. It really is deep work. And so, um, yeah, I'm really grateful for it. I'm feeling super grateful. I've got a lot of gratitude this morning for, For all

Grounding Practices and Benefits

00:04:55
Speaker
of it. And so um real quick, before we do some check-ins, I would love to do a grounding practice. Jess is going to lead us in a grounding practice. We've done this on the podcast before. It's been a hot minute, but typically we'll do this like in our mastermind groups. And so i thought it would be really beneficial. It's really for me. I know it's for you too. I need some grounding this morning. And so I've asked Jess to lead us in a little grounding practice.
00:05:23
Speaker
Okay, so I actually really need this too. So, okay. So go ahead and close your eyes unless you are driving. Please don't close your eyes. Everybody else, close your eyes and let's just start by taking a deep breath.
00:05:52
Speaker
and feel your feet on the floor
00:05:58
Speaker
and continue with your deep breathing.
00:06:07
Speaker
As you feel your feet on the floor, imagine roots coming out from your feet and digging into the earth.
00:06:23
Speaker
Check in with your body, especially your shoulders. And if you're holding any tension, go ahead and just shake that out and release it. take another deep breath, and this time feel the breath in your belly and fill up your belly with air as much as you can.
00:06:51
Speaker
and release it.
00:07:01
Speaker
Notice any tension in your jaw or holding any tension in your face.
00:07:11
Speaker
Pay attention to any sounds around you.
00:07:22
Speaker
And continue to fill your feet on the floor.
00:07:38
Speaker
and taking deep breaths.
00:07:44
Speaker
And think of something that you're grateful for this morning. Monday is such a great day to start with some gratitude.
00:08:02
Speaker
Just be right here and right now.
00:08:07
Speaker
with your focus fully on today's episode and the value that we're ready to share.
00:08:17
Speaker
Take another deep breath
00:08:22
Speaker
and release all the air.
00:08:34
Speaker
And when you're ready, we can open our eyes
00:08:42
Speaker
Why am I so good at that? You are so good at that. i was I was just thinking, man, you should record that. Should we make some meditation? Or at least have it available on YouTube. I don't know. Or in the membership, we could just have a section in there for like some grounding work and meditations.
00:09:03
Speaker
No joke. It is so powerful. Thank you. Thank you so much for doing that. You are so good at that. And I just probably need to start my day with your grounding practice and voice every single day. going channel that. It's so good. i actually am trying to like, sometimes when I do that, I'm actually thinking of my own. I've told you guys this before, but my therapist, he's also a Buddhist monk and like a shaman. Yeah. And so we do that a lot in like our group therapy or he's funny whenever I'm in a session with him, if i'm not spinning necessarily, but if I'm just getting my thoughts out, he'll like slow me down and he'll say, let's ground ourselves. And so I think I learned a lot of that from him and I'm super grateful for that because i think what's really important and we've talked about this before and I talk about this in my aligned foundations class is that We learn how to ground ourselves in the moment. And it's definitely a practice. And if anything, it's just learning to take a deep breath and be here where you are and quiet everything else.
00:10:14
Speaker
But it does, it just brings you back into the moment, back into the present. And it does kind of shut everything else off, which is just super, super important. So I love that we do that. And we should probably make that a more regular thing again, like we were doing at the beginning of the year.
00:10:31
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely. i think why you're, it is a practice and you have gotten better at it The more I've asked you to share your grounding practice, but what I think always impresses me is your ability to pause for a long time and like be slow in that practice. And like, let there just be space to just be and like, I hopefully that's translating correctly. But i think my mind is always spinning so fast. And I'm always like on to the next in my to do list and what I have to do. And so practices like that are just so, so powerful. and they're so spiritual.
00:11:11
Speaker
And like you said, it does give you the chance to actually breathe. Because how many times during the day do you actually notice your breath unless you're bringing attention to it? Practically never, unless you're like dying on the stair stepper, right? Yeah. So truly, and it's so, so, so powerful to bring you into the present. And then gratitude for me always follows, always. Whether I'm thinking about it or not, it's just like, man, i am so glad to be right here right now.
00:11:39
Speaker
So yeah.

Personal Reflections and Wins

00:11:41
Speaker
and Thank you. You're welcome. Let's do some quick check-ins before we get in. How are you? I'm good. You were with your family this last week.
00:11:52
Speaker
I was. And you went to some freaking beautiful lakes. I know. You know who told me about those lakes? So funny enough, um so me and my family, we we take a week every July and we go to our family cabin and um usually I do go for the full week or like five nights. Typically this time I only went for three nights and i probably won't do that again. I probably will go back to doing a little bit more time there, like four or five nights, but, um,
00:12:26
Speaker
It was kind of fun because we packed in a lot of really fun stuff. but Like what? Well, we went to West Yellowstone, which we typically do. But like this time I was like, let's go see the bears and let's go see the wolves. And you guys literally. So give you a really good idea of my personality. I'll really let you in here. Like after seeing the bears and the wolves, I told my mom at lunch, I was like, what if? both of my parents, I was like, what if i went back to school to become a wildlife biologist? but And I just blew up my life and went back to school to be a wildlife biologist. And I had like this whole plan in my head. I'm like, I'm going to move to Montana. going to know, and I like bought these books about it. And then within the hour and like a quick Google search, I was like, OK, maybe not. But that's just so like something that I would do. But it was really fun um to go do that and take the little girls like they were really excited to see the bears and the wolves and whatever. But I think out of every one of my family, I was the most into it. and then More than kid. 100%. They were like, you know, on to the next. They wanted to go McDonald's for lunch. And I was like, I could stay here all day long. And, and um,
00:13:43
Speaker
So no, it was really fun. And yeah, we just played, we played a lot on the lake and went on lots of four wheeler rides and lots of walks. And it was actually just only a few people in my family. So the biggest part of my, well, like my, all my nieces nephews and stuff and my siblings weren't there. It was actually just me and my little sister and her girls.
00:14:05
Speaker
And my parents and so it was like not even half of our family was there, which was actually kind of nice because it was really, really chill, actually. um and then, yeah, my dad took us to this lake in Montana, which is just it was about an hour north of our family cabin. And. I don't know how I didn't know about that. But what I was going to say was so funny is that um our friend Rose, she was texting me that morning asking me just a work question. And I was like, I've been thinking about you because I am, you know, in such and such place and I know how much you love it here. And she was like, there is this place that you have to go see. And she was sending me all those pictures, all these beautiful pictures. And then when I looked at it on the map, I was like, oh my gosh, that's actually where I'm going today. oh my gosh. And so it was really fun. It was like the most turquoise blue clear water that I've ever been on personally, especially paddle boarding.
00:15:00
Speaker
And it was really fun to go with my sister and my dad paddle boarding. Yeah. yeah You know, it's usually just me by myself or with my girlfriends. And so it was really, really fun that like my dad and my little sister were so into it too. And yeah, it was just a really good time. It was really chill. We celebrated my 40th birthday. My family is really funny. They still have birthday parties for me. Like there's banners, there's balloons, there's Yes, there's like wrapped gifts. And my little niece, she picked me a bouquet of flowers because she know she knows I love to like do my flower pressing. And um it's so cute. They don't do that for anybody.
00:15:41
Speaker
I think it's just because I'm the only single one in my family that they just still like, I don't know, love to celebrate my birthday. And so we had like a birthday party and my mom made my favorite cake and Oh, yeah, it was it was good. It was a good time. i had planned to work. There was definitely things that I needed to get done. But I don't know, once I got there, I kind of just shut off and I slept a lot too, which was really nice and read a lot. And yeah, it's a good time. It was really good.
00:16:11
Speaker
That's nice that you can be with your family and still they allow you the time to read and sleep. I feel like that's a little bit rare when you get with your family that you're not, you don't see, you know, like on a daily basis. And so that's got to be really, really nice.
00:16:25
Speaker
It was nice. And I think a lot of it was just that there was only a few of us there too, real you know? And so everyone was just kind of doing our own, doing our own thing and chilling together. was a little bit more quiet, even with the little girls. And yeah, it was good. What is your favorite cake?
00:16:41
Speaker
So my mom makes a chocolate cake. ah Yeah. So I don't even know how she makes it, but she makes it for me every year. And then she crumbles up Reese's and puts Reese's on the top of the cake because I'm just such a like chocolate peanut butter girl. So yeah, it's just my mom's like special chocolate cake.
00:16:59
Speaker
Yeah. but I love it. Yeah. Where were you though? Because literally it was like the day that her was leaving for Island Park. I didn't even talk to you for like three or four days. And I was like, she must have also decided that she was gonna like go do like, where is she? I don't know what she's doing. I didn't leave town this weekend, but Ryan came home. So Ryan, my husband, Ryan has been working out of town in Stanley, which is just his favorite place in the whole wide world. So he's been like in the back country working and then he decided to come home on Friday.
00:17:32
Speaker
And so he was home for two nights. And so it was really nice because we didn't expect him to come home. So I kind of, not that I had any plans, but I was like kind of considering like maybe we were going to go to Ruby Lake for the day on Saturday. And then, so I kind of just dropped everything and um in a good way. And we just spent time together, which was really nice. And then, but it was like a fast turnaround, right?
00:17:54
Speaker
um Because he left. to go back yesterday. But then on Saturday, i also had some time I we I went ended up going yard selling with my mom and my sister, and we got coffee. and then i ended up with my nieces and my kids. And so we just kind of had like a really chill day unexpected. I'm a pretty go with the flow type of girly, get a little bit stressed and overwhelmed when I have plans on my schedule, especially during the summer. I don't know why i like love to kind of have an open ended like maybe I'll go out of town, maybe I won't and not be like tied down. And so this weekend was actually perfect because that's kind of like what I live for, right? To not really have anything on my schedule to do what I want, what I want, when it comes up, if something comes up or if I don't want to do it, if something comes up and I'm presented with something like I don't have to, cause I'm not committed to it. Does that make sense?
00:18:49
Speaker
Mm-hmm. So that was my weekend and we had camped the weekend before. and last week I was like, I don't know, in recovery a little bit from that. um We had actually gone up to Stanley and camped that whole weekend the week before. So this weekend after a really busy week, I went camping. I had a super packed week at work. And then so this weekend was like some R&R for me too. So was really nice.
00:19:16
Speaker
Good. Yeah. I like it. Um, do you have one? i thought it would be fun for our listener if we each shared one personal, either win or highlight and then one professional win or highlight from the last little bit. It doesn't have to be super recent.
00:19:41
Speaker
Yeah, you know, I'll share it like personally. um and I've, I think I've shared this with you before. Because I share everything. I know. It's a matter of when have I, when did I say this to you? So, you know, it's been so interesting for me is that I've just been so grateful that like, again, when I'm away in the mountains, I think I talked about this on the last episode now that I'm saying this, but I'm not running away from anything anymore. yeah. It's so interesting because for so many years from about 2021 ish up until last year, when I would go away, like for a few days with my family, i would do like an out of office email. And even when people would text me, I would get like a little bit agitated about it and because I was so overworked. I was just really, um
00:20:33
Speaker
kind of that high functioning stress, if you will. And so I like needed to walk away and I just don't feel that way anymore. Like every time somebody texted me with a question or when I got emails, like i just don't have that same you know, stress if my inbox is full or I've, I've just now like built this life for myself that I'm not trying to run away from. And it's, I don't feel like I need those out of offices all the time. Not that it's not important to do that, but I think my life has become so well integrated and I'm not so stressed out anymore that it's just been really nice to feel a little bit more cohesiveness that way where,
00:21:18
Speaker
My work and my, I don't know. did I don't know if I'm yeah making any sense. I'm having a hard time putting that into words, but I've just really noticed that over these last few weeks, like that there isn't that same pressure. There isn't that same stress. I'm not like agitated when I'm getting emails or.
00:21:36
Speaker
you know, getting, getting work texts when I'm in the mountains or when I'm with my family, like it's totally fine now. Like everything to me is just so even keel. I'm like thrilled to get back to everybody and thrilled to just have everything so integrated. And so that's kind of a personal and a professional, because I've had to work really hard to make the changes that need to be made so that i wasn't living like that anymore. Um,
00:22:04
Speaker
So yeah, that's that's been really good. i think also what's been really nice for me is that during the summer I do take so much time off and then I'm like excited to get back into it. Even though there is a little bit of an adjustment, like I actually did come home earlier than I thought I was going to, because i I was like, no, I'm ready to like get back to the gym and, get back to work and do all that. But there was still a little bit of an adjustment yesterday when I got home and I still needed just like a little bit of rest, but, um
00:22:38
Speaker
I think that's also the nice thing about being able to take time away is that you do kind of gain that appreciation to being like excited to get back to work and helping people and serving people. And um yeah, so
00:22:57
Speaker
that's what comes to mind for me. Well, especially like you said, when it's not in a escape kind of a way. Yeah. Then you get to be really excited to come back because you're not actually running from the work itself or from the obligation or responsibility. Yeah.
00:23:12
Speaker
And I think i can attest to that for you. Even what I've witnessed is just like you saying, like um you did have some work stuff you could have done last week, but then you didn't and you're okay not to do it. And that, and you were like, that didn't stress you out.
00:23:27
Speaker
Right. no it didn't. You've come a long way in that. I really have. I really have. I really have. And it's just been really noticeable even just this month alone, just the month of July. been like, oh, wow. I feel very, very different.
00:23:43
Speaker
When I think... um That can be said with anything when we bring the consciousness to our present state. Yeah. Right. And that just like, you know, you're noticing it, you're recognizing it, you're accepting it, you're surrendering to it in a positive way. and I think that's like the magic behind it. Yeah.
00:24:04
Speaker
Yeah. What about you? Well, I was going to share a different one, but... When you were talking, I was like thinking, actually, it came to me when you were, we were doing our grounding practice. And then when you were saying like, feel that your feet on the floor and roots growing in. And so I'm sitting in my office right now.
00:24:26
Speaker
which this office was my original treatment room at Sweet Cheeks. And so the last couple of months I've transitioned my office. I've transitioned this treatment room into my office. I had a separate office space that was outside of my skincare business. And then it had me thinking how grateful I am for this space. And I've really been super grateful since I've moved back in and transitioned the space anyways, but just very recently, like so grateful and all of the changes that have come along with And so I was thinking that we were doing the grinding practice, like, man, I'm so happy and glad and peaceful to be right here right now and to have this space and that is an office space. And that's where it all originally started.
00:25:13
Speaker
So if you don't know, my skincare business started with just one treatment room and one retail space, which the treatment room is here where I'm at right now. And then three years ago, I expanded, I knocked a wall out and was able to take over the lease in the unit next to me. And so I built in a new treatment room. So I had two treatment rooms, expanded my retail space, and then eventually moved my office space to a separate location.
00:25:39
Speaker
And then recently, like this spring, I decided to what's the word to transition, if you will, again, and I transitioned my whole business and I actually let my whole team go and help them move out on their own. They all went solo moved my office space back in here, transitioned this treatment room, went down to one treatment room. And so now it's just me. I'm like back to being a solo esthetician in this skincare business that I built and grew into a team. And then I have my apprentice. Brianna. So I'm currently in a or currently leading an apprenticeship right now.
00:26:19
Speaker
And so I think like personally and professionally, I just have to say like what a big win that is for me that not only what did I have the courage to transition a business that was, I won't, I don't want to say no longer serving me, but in a sense, no longer serving me and having the courage to like change it after changing it before. you know what I mean? And that it was like my choice. It feels so good in my body and like my whole being that it was my choice. It wasn't like outside circumstances. that made me do that or that decided it for me. It really was my own personal choice and it felt, it still feels like the right choice. And so I'm just really proud of myself in that. And I'm really happy to share my story. i think, especially with this community, with our podcast community, that um that it's okay to pivot, that it's actually necessary to pivot. And pivoting can be super hard, especially when,
00:27:26
Speaker
not everyone on the outside is going to understand why you need to pivot or why you want to pivot, not even need to pivot. You know, and so, um and that it, you know, just because you built something one way and it looked a certain way for a while, doesn't mean you're stuck there ever. I don't ever want anyone to feel like they're stuck there because it is what you wanted at the time or is what you thought you wanted. And so I just, I don't know, i'm really proud of myself.
00:27:56
Speaker
um I'm so proud of you too. Honestly, you guys, what's so crazy? Like Tiffany and I really do talk every day, all day, usually on multiple platforms too, or it's kind of one those types of friendships, right? Many different conversations happening on many platforms. What was so interesting is that you hadn't really said anything to me until you finally had like made this massive decision to do what you did.
00:28:27
Speaker
And i I really was kind of blown away by it. But also at the same time, i was like, I think I knew, i think that I just knew that eventually, you know, you might get here You after like, i don't know, but what's so important, what stands out to me about what you said is like the amount of courage that that takes is pretty wild to, to pivot in a way. And I think we talked about this on the last episode too. Like, don't be afraid to simplify.
00:29:00
Speaker
You know, you, you could have built, and I've done the same thing. Like I built this huge thing, you know, and it looked really great on the outside and there were parts of it that were really great.
00:29:12
Speaker
Yeah. And then you get to a point where you just say, is this really the the path that I want to continue going down or not? And it really does just take so much courage to simplify your business.
00:29:28
Speaker
And i see people do it often. Like I, i really do. And so i'm ah really proud of your courage to do what you did um,
00:29:40
Speaker
It's really been evident that it was the right thing for you on so many different levels. I feel like you're happier, you're more chill, you're more at peace, you're more, you know, your energy is being directed where it should be.
00:29:57
Speaker
yeah Because... everything's flowing very differently and it's flowing so much better. There's really no tension and everything was great. But, you know, I was obsessed with your girls. Like I loved so getting to see them when I was there. And i hope I do every single time that I'm in town. I love getting together with them still. And, but yeah, you know, I think that as entrepreneurs, it's okay to pivot in ways that other people might not understand, but your heart knows what's right. Yeah, always, always. And I think it was just having that conversation with myself and being honest with myself. And then, and Jess knows this about me, but once I make a decision, it's made. And I had had that honest conversation with myself. And then I was like, oh, this is what I need to do. This is what I'm being led to do. And I was scared, you know, I had just hired these girls
00:30:53
Speaker
in September and I, and I let them go in April. And so I was scared to have those conversations. I was scared for them about how they going to handle it, what they were going to do, what did, was my business going to look like on the other side of the simplification. And at the same time, I knew in my soul that it was the right thing to do. And so once I had had, I made that realization that I had told you, and like it was already done, it was already in the works.
00:31:18
Speaker
And so it's not like, but at the same time where you said, like, you think you knew, i knew too, because there was tension because my time was so divided on so many things that I wasn't, I felt like I wasn't able to fully show up for all of it as my best self and not really weighed heavily on me because I don't like feeling like I can't.
00:31:44
Speaker
give my all to you, to all of my projects, to all of my businesses, to all of my, you know, the things, to my family, to myself, there was things that were getting left behind and I didn't like that either. And so, oh um, yeah, you know, the obstacle is the way, and that's what we're going to talk about today in this episode

Navigating Business Slowdowns

00:32:03
Speaker
episode. And, um, yeah, all good things, all crazy things. Um,
00:32:09
Speaker
A year ago, you could have tipped me over with a feather if you told me that I was going to simplify my business in this way. Are you kidding me? Who freaking knew? And now that I'm here, I'm like, yeah, for sure. I can look back and see it for sure. Yeah.
00:32:26
Speaker
Yes. It's life. So today's episode, what to do if and when business is slow during the summer months.
00:32:37
Speaker
This is a big conversation that we have a lot. um This is something you and I have both experienced in our businesses before. And so I thought it would be just such a great conversation to have since we are midsummer right now. And i know without a doubt, there is one, if not more of you out there that is experiencing experiencing this in your practice or your business right now. And so we have a lot of wisdom to share about it and a lot of value for you and what to do if your if your books are slow, if your sales are down, if you're feeling panicky about what how are you going to pay your bills, like we're going to talk about it. Yeah.
00:33:15
Speaker
So first and foremost, summer gets slow because people are out doing, they're out living their life. And it's hard to like be mad about that.
00:33:27
Speaker
You know what i mean? Cause I'm the same way. hey I want to be out in the mountains. I want to be hanging with my kids. I want to be traveling. I want to be going to concerts. I am freaking busy doing and living life, which is the whole point of things. So We wanted you to highlight the why behind maybe why your books are slow or why sales are down.
00:33:51
Speaker
This happens every summer. i mean, literally. So, and I think that's just it is that everyone's kids are out of school. And so schedules change drastically and everybody's out playing and it's totally normal.
00:34:05
Speaker
I mean, It's completely normal. It's not. And that's also why people's budgets change is because they're spending a lot of money being out playing and doing things. And then not only that, but there's like family reunions and there's lots of weddings in the summer. I mean, ah summer is just a really, really busy time. And and there's lots of cancellations in the summer too. i mean, i basically plan for that. My spa partners, I plan very strategically and I plan ahead. to try to avoid cancellations that honestly, when they happen, I'm like, it's great. I it's it's completely fine. This is totally normal. I get it. It's not a big deal.
00:34:47
Speaker
And so yeah, it's just a very normal thing to have happen for sure. Absolutely. And I think the number one rule is to not take a personal and to not allow those feelings to come over you of like, oh, she's canceling because I gave a horrible service or, oh, she's canceling because my prices are too high or x Y, Z, like the list can literally go on and on. And when you allow those feelings to get ahold of you, then it's really hard, at least for me to come down from that. Yeah. And so hear us, hear us loud and clear. It isn't personal. we have been in the business and the industry long enough to see the trends throughout the calendar year and to see where like Jess literally has reports that she sees from all of our spa partners literally throughout the calendar year on when sales did. and when they rise. And it really does have to do with just that. It's summer, people, at kids are out of school. I can attest to that. My freaking kids are driving me crazy. They are literally up my butt. this is the first This is the first year. I mean, I've been a mom now for almost 13 years. This is the first summer where this summer has been really hard because my kids are not babies anymore.
00:35:56
Speaker
And they're not just like at the babysitter. They're like big kids where they have schedules. They have their own life, their own friends, their own obligations, their own summer jobs. It's f freaking crazy, like crazy. I've been a mom now for over a decade. And this is like the hardest summer I've had trying to navigate my own schedule and my kids' schedule. So I feel, i feel it. And I understand it even on a deeper level with all my clients that have older kids. Yeah.
00:36:25
Speaker
Yeah, it really has nothing to do with you. i can attest to that. So I've been working with spas for 13 years, and this is just a completely normal thing. it has nothing to do with you. It's not personal.
00:36:37
Speaker
It's totally fine. And I think that's where some nervous system regulation has to come into play because there's part of your nervous system that likely is telling you that it has to do with you or that your worth is tied into this somehow, or your whole business is going to tank, or you've done something really wrong.
00:36:55
Speaker
And nothing could be further from the truth. So it is a really good opportunity to learn to settle your nervous system and almost just accept it and give in maybe you want to go play too maybe, you know, chill and go schedule some fun things to do. In fact, usually with our coaching clients, we tell them to go through your schedule for the summer, mark as much time off as you feel like you can, you know, or that you feel like you want to, because we already know that our clients are going to be doing the same thing. And so go ahead and do that for yourself too, and let it go. this is nothing personal. it has nothing to do with you. And it is such a good opportunity to relax into your nervous system and train your nervous system that this is okay. This is good. This can also be my time to go play and chill too. and um yeah, so take that opportunity to regulate your nervous system that way.
00:37:53
Speaker
Absolutely. And if you need to like go back to the beginning of this episode and listen Jess's grounding practice again, and grant, if you feel like your um emotions are getting away for you or your anxiety is getting on top of you, like listen to a grounding practice, listen to a guided meditation, something like that to help guide your breath and bring yourself back into your body. And like, this is your famous quote. I i is, what is it?
00:38:21
Speaker
I am here. i am now and all is well. I'm right here. I'm right now and all is well. Yeah. And so I think when we can really root into, okay, I am right here and surrender to what is happening and not allow ourselves to like, not allow the anxiety to get on top of ourselves and to be okay. And to actually look at it, like, how is this going to serve me? What opportunities can arise through this? That is when we can realize that like, oh, maybe the universe is actually handing this time to me on a silver platter. Maybe I actually asked for this or prayed for this.
00:38:59
Speaker
It's true. And that could mean that you need time off. It could also mean let's work on the back end of our business. You know like literally this week, I have maybe three meetings total.
00:39:11
Speaker
And so my schedule is full of let's dig into the back end. Let's make sure we're caught up on everything. You know, where's the creative side? Like, what can I be doing? Because I have this downtime. So um yeah, I think that's a really important aspect of this.
00:39:28
Speaker
Yeah. And then I also love to, especially when I feel like my mind is getting away from me, it's always my mind. my Our mind, I think, is ah is our ego. It's our enemy most of the time. It's not really my body, but when my mind gets away from me, then my body follows, right? Like that anxiety and that pit my stomach or whatever. So I love to do a gratitude practice as well.
00:39:53
Speaker
And that can look at a bunch of different ways. Jess has a gratitude journal that she writes in every single morning to stay present with gratitude and make sure it's part of your daily routine and daily practice. um Prayer can be a wonderful form of gratitude.
00:40:08
Speaker
That's really how i practice gratitude. And then two, just like being present in the moment and being like, okay, looking around, maybe you're looking at your books and being like, holy cow, I've had four cancellations this week. How am I going to pay my bills? Like, and then your mind starts to get away and be like, okay, what is it that I am grateful for?
00:40:27
Speaker
Where am I at? Where have I come from? And really look around and be really honest with yourself and be like, is it the end of the world that I've had all these cancellations? Maybe do the math and be like, I actually can pay my bills. You know, it's actually not a money thing. It's just the fear time behind the money thing and seeing open spaces on your schedule and thinking that maybe you're not going to be able to pay your bills. Right.
00:40:51
Speaker
And then just really look around and see how far you've come. And that goes leads into tracking your wins and really, noticing where you are, where you've been, and then we'll look ahead to on where you're going.
00:41:05
Speaker
Yeah, no very, very important points, very important points. So that's going to get you back into a really good place so that then we can know how to move forward from a more regulated, grateful, abundant place as we start to now move into strategy. strategy When, if you look at it from an energetic viewpoint, like fear, anxiety, stress, overwhelm is all a low vibration. And when we're at that low vibration, we will end up attracting continued lower vibrations. Right. Gratitude is one of the highest vibrations. It's up there with love and abundance and all of the wonderful, beautiful things that we want for ourselves. So if we can physically put ourselves in a higher vibration through grounding, through gratitude, through prayer, through nervous system regulation, then we're going to automatically like magnetize that to ourselves. Mm hmm.
00:42:04
Speaker
By chewing the ass out. No, it's so true. Chill the heck out and let things flow to you. Like it's all good. it is all good. So another thing is to use this time to revisit your resolutions or goals from the very beginning of the year and kind of reevaluate if needed. So just check in with yourself. How are you really doing? with what you wanted to be doing? And then is there any room or opportunity to just reevaluate things and shift things? So we are halfway through the year. This is the perfect opportunity for you to take some time to revisit that, which is super, oh my gosh, it's super important. and It's definitely been on my mind as well. Like, hmm,
00:42:53
Speaker
Where am I actually at with all of that, you know? And so i love that that's part of this conversation too So what a great opportunity. Well, and to know where you're going, you have to know...
00:43:07
Speaker
where you want to land, where, where you want it to be. Like we all have these, or at least for me, i don't want to speak for everyone, but for me, I have like these grand visions, these grand dreams, and they feel like they're just out here in the sky. And then a lot of times i will put them out there like at the beginning of the year. And then I'll just like,
00:43:29
Speaker
kind of expect them to be there and like maybe have like, I don't really have a roadmap on how I'm going to get there. Not necessarily that you need to know the how, cause I do believe that the how is none of our business.
00:43:40
Speaker
At the same time, having some actual tangible, um goals, if you will, or landing points or checkpoints to make sure that you're, you're on the right path and then course correct if needed.
00:43:57
Speaker
Because I think we can all get off course or we can forget, or we can be like, Oh yeah, that really was something that was important to me at the beginning of the year when I was doing my new year's resolutions. And have I even revisited that? I don't know. Maybe not. Maybe, maybe not.
00:44:11
Speaker
And then like, you know, what I shared about you with my, my wins or my highlights. is like I completely went left field on where I thought this year was going to go.
00:44:24
Speaker
Therefore, it is so important for me to sit down and like remap out where my goals and my visions are because they're not the same that they were at the beginning of the year, not even a little bit. There is some that are the same for sure.
00:44:37
Speaker
And I've got some new ones in there. And so like time to just take a look at that. Yes. It's all connected. It really is all connected. Absolutely. Absolutely.
00:44:48
Speaker
And then wanna look at what opportunities are arising for us when the sales are down or when our books are slow. Because really everything is an opportunity, everything is an opportunity. And like I said a minute ago, like truly, you probably asked for this, you probably prayed for this and it's showing up for you in an unexpected way, maybe not in the way that you wanted or thought you needed, but the universe is like, okay, you wanted to work on some continuing education. You wanted to take that vitamin C course from the beyond aesthetics.
00:45:19
Speaker
Here you go. Here's some time in your schedule to dedicate to it or whatever. No, but it is, it's true. and I think that that's kind of a tough lesson to learn sometimes is like, oh, actually, I was getting really burned out. And I wanted some free time or i wanted to, you know, do some continuing education as actually like one of the best examples, like estheticians literally say that all the time, like, I don't have time for the continued education or You know, it's like a huge goal for them. Well, here's your silver platter. Like, let's plan to dive into that during the summer. What a great time to add that to your plate, especially if you have gotten a lot of cancellations recently. Why wouldn't you then fill up that time with your continuing education or your admin or sitting down with your accountant or
00:46:11
Speaker
Maybe if you are like working for somebody else as an esthetician, like let's revisit some protocols. Let's go to the retail area and take an inventory of what you're not recommending as much because you've been wanting to improve your retail sales. You've wanting to learn a little bit more. i mean, literally downtime is usually what we pray for because it like boomerangs us or catapults us into opportunity to do that quote unquote kind of back end work that we can't do when we're seeing clients all the time. And it is kind of like you always say, it's like a boomerang. You kind of have to like pull back a little bit, you know, and we want to learn and we want to grow and we want to look at these opportunities and, and then you do
00:47:01
Speaker
And then when the work comes back, you're literally that much better and that much ready for it. So there's really nothing wrong with utilizing this downtime to kind of check those other boxes that are the, I don't know, deeper or kind of other part of being an esthetician that we truly don't have time for that when we're constantly working with clients.
00:47:23
Speaker
No, absolutely you got Here you go. i mean, it comes up a lot in our coaching of like, when we talk about goals or their vision, and they're like, I want to do this, this is what I would like to accomplish this year, this is on my list. And then my first question is, do you have time in your schedule to do that, to do this side hustle, to start coaching other estheticians, to do, and nine times out 10, they're full busy booked estheticians and they're leaving it up to chance to actually work that into their schedule. And so i think when unexpected time happens on our schedule, it literally is the universe saying, okay, you have said that you've needed to work on your email and marketing list. and get that going and off the ground for freaking months. Here you go. and so revisiting your whatever you want to call them, your goals, your vision, your dreams, your resolutions, whatever it is, revisiting that is actually your blueprint for how you can utilize this time wisely. If you're thinking like, okay, yes, I do have this unexpected time and I don't even know where to start, start there because you
00:48:30
Speaker
generally you will have something on that list. And like you said, like taxes is a really good um conversation too. On like, we have that conversation with estheticians all the time of like, man, I would like to get better at my books. I would like to learn the backend and my service costs and all of these things. Okay, well, here's that time. It may not be something that you are like,
00:48:51
Speaker
gonna do back flips overdoing during this time.

Client and Marketing Strategies

00:48:56
Speaker
and that's where discipline is going to come. Discipline and devotion are going to come into play. She's speaking to me. but I'm speaking to us both actually. Truly like we i we have those lists. I've got a running list right fricking here here of all of these things that are like non-emergencies, are not emergencies. And they're like things that I would feel better about getting done. And I'm not super excited about doing them because it does take focus. It does challenge me in a different way. It just doesn't come, you know, just it's just not, it's not always fun.
00:49:33
Speaker
And I know that it's attached right on the other side of this dream and vision and goal that I have. And so I know it's important. And obviously it's bugging me. So I know it's important. So true.
00:49:45
Speaker
So yeah, if you don't know where to start. Yeah.
00:49:51
Speaker
So if you don't know where to start when it comes to utilizing your free time wisely, go back to your goal or your vision list and start there. But night i I'm pretty confident you will have, and especially with what we're going to share with you, our tangible value we're going to share with you you, will have something to do at this time. So, um, opportunity, free time in your space is always going to be an opportunity.
00:50:16
Speaker
The obstacle literally is the way don't avoid it. um and truly like the universe is serving this to you on a silver platter. And then I also want to talk about like practicing surrender or in the now, which we kind of highlighted already, but truly I'm still reading the power of now.
00:50:35
Speaker
by Eckhart Tolle. And I'm almost to the very end of it. And the end is actually the best part of the whole book. And it's like being conscious and living in a state of consciousness and truly surrendering without, um,
00:50:51
Speaker
without like even negative or positive emotion and truly just being like, this is like, I am right here and, and it's okay. Like truly like it is okay. And like being peaceful in the surrender and that's like true consciousness. I don't know. I'm not, I can't like,
00:51:08
Speaker
quote the book very well but it is just practicing presence and surrendering to it and then that's where the flow is going to come in and that's where that higher vibe vibration is going to flow through you and not resisting the the slowness the summer season or your books being slow or your sales being down I love that
00:51:34
Speaker
So the question next is, how can this extra time serve me and my practice and or business? And then what you really need to ask yourself is, do I really need to fill this space with clients? Say that you've gotten a lot of cancellations. Do you need to fill this space in your schedule with clients or do you need to utilize this time differently? like with personal time, like with stepping away.
00:51:57
Speaker
So if the answer is yes, yes, you need to fill the space. Yes, you want to fill the space with clients, then in no important order, we're going to list these. But first and foremost is like, are you doing your follow-ups and have you done your follow-ups recently? And are you utilizing that to your advantage? Like, are you staying connected and nurturing those relationships with the current clients that you do have?
00:52:22
Speaker
This is literally the number one is follow-ups and pre-booking. you You can't get around it. Everybody wants to have a magical equation for this. And there's like, this is the magic equation. It's staying connected, staying connected or reconnecting.
00:52:41
Speaker
was Number one answer. And you know what? I've actually also taken this to my mentors because naturally my spot partners are reaching out to me, asking me for advice when they're really slow and they're like, my employees are worried or I'm really worried or whatever. And so i turned to my mentors about a month ago and I was like, let's get together and compile a list of what to do.
00:53:07
Speaker
you guys. Right. That's it. That's it. So how's your pre-booking? How's your follow-ups and how are we staying connected with people? you know Because again, and we've said this before, like it is so easy to get stuck in this new client loop. you know And so what I would love everybody's brains to start doing is that as soon as you do start to slow down just a little bit and you've noticed that your books are not as full or you're getting a lot of cancellations, is go back to those foundations of your follow-up, staying connected. And are we are we pre-booking?
00:53:40
Speaker
Yeah. and I will say too, because we've been having this follow-up conversation, I am seeing it more and more with all types of beauty professionals, even massage therapists. Like I love it so much where there is no specific formula to do your follow-ups and there is a right way to do it. And I've seen this a couple of times where the practitioner will follow up. How how is XYZ doing? did-a-dah-dahda And then I respond and then I don't hear back again.
00:54:15
Speaker
you know And I just think it's a like a little bit of ghosting. And so I'm like, okay, there is like,
00:54:24
Speaker
It's not just like you send a message and then because you send that message, you're good. There's like a missing piece of the nurturing, the relationship that I feel like is important. Absolutely. That makes sense? Yes.
00:54:37
Speaker
Finish the conversation. Yes. And that can be said with like having a conversation through DMs on Instagram. Like it doesn't just have to be like via text, but there is a level, like the whole point of the follow-up, I think the point I'm trying to make is to nurture the relationship. It's not just to check a box. Like, okay, I followed up with Tiffany after her appointment and now I'm good. That box is checked. No, the whole point of following up is to nurture the relationship to make sure she knows that my door is open for her and to make sure that she like, there's gratitude there. Or like I'm instructing her to do to something like leave a Google review. If she leaves a Google review, let her like, thank her for that. that Like, Don't just leave them on read and don't just like check a box with it.
00:55:26
Speaker
I think that's I'm trying to say. Yes. I love that. That's really, really good advice. But also if you're not doing your follow-ups, that's rule number one. Yeah. It's like, do your follow-ups. It's just such an easy fix. Follow up with all of your clients, even if you have two clients. Follow up with them and then nurture that relationship. And then that's going to lead to referrals and that's going to lead to conversations on them recommending you to their friends and family and, um,
00:55:54
Speaker
And it's just, it's relationships, it's connection. That's the whole point. speaking of connection, the next thing you can do if yes, you're wanting to fill this space is reconnect or reach out to clients that have fallen off your books for whatever reason. And it happens to all of us. You're like going through and you're like, man, I haven't seen her in a while. Oh yeah, she canceled back in March. And either I never followed up or I did and I didn't hear back from her.
00:56:21
Speaker
Go through your booking system, go through your books and see who hasn't been in to see you in a while and then reconnect, reestablish that connection with them and ask if they would like to come in and you have time on your schedule and rebook them for that time.
00:56:37
Speaker
Absolutely. Yes. I love that so much. It's really one of the quickest, easiest ways. the quickest, easiest way. And the same can be said for retail. So if you've got, if retail sales are a big part of your business, like mine is, and it's not necessarily like your books are slow, but maybe your retail sales are down, then you can do the same with your retail sales. Go back through your booking system and see who hasn't purchased, you know, a cleanser in more than six months or a moisturizer in almost a year or X, Y, Z, And reach out to them and see what they need in their routine.
00:57:16
Speaker
Definitely. so easy. its So you have the information already. You just need to utilize it.
00:57:24
Speaker
Then, mean, we always want to be working with a wait list for sure. Unless you're brand new, so unless you're just building your clientele, we should all have a wait list that if and when we get cancellations in our schedule, then we can go to that wait list and reach out to whoever is on our wait list who's been waiting for a facial or who say you didn't have a spot in your books for five or six weeks. And then you can reach out to them be like, hey, I had a cancellation this week. Would you like to come in sooner?
00:57:56
Speaker
Yes. Right. That's the whole point of a wait list. And so we want to most booking systems um will give you a wait list opportunity. Like clients can add themselves to their wait list if they don't see an opening in your schedule when they go to book, which is really nice and really handy. i still think it's really important to have an ongoing wait list and not just rely on the booking system because sometimes I feel like it can get lost in the wash a little bit for sure. And so having an actual, however that looks, whether it's a notes app on your phone or you've got it in your notebook by your desk or whichever, um having something else besides your booking system to refer to if and when you get cancellations.
00:58:41
Speaker
Absolutely. i love to do this one. You can offer walk-ins and, or like a bring a friend special. Um, and say like you've got a quick cancellation, you can offer a walk-in like special and then you're gonna share your summer some are ideas for that as well. Or you can do like if you wax, you can do like a BOGO, bring a friend, um buy one, get one like half off rel wax. Like I think it's just such a fun way to um utilize that time wisely and market to the people who don't necessarily love a schedule. Cause there are women out there who are just kind of fly by or a lunch hour, like they really can't commit to um booking their appointment.
00:59:27
Speaker
on a specific day and time every single month. And so, um, you can market to those people too. And I think it's usually really, really, um, popular and really, um, what's the word?
00:59:41
Speaker
Like it usually works out well. Let's do that. Yeah. So to, to follow along with that or piggyback off of it, you can have a daily secret menu or even a weekly secret menu. So If you get a couple cancellations that day or the day before, you can like have this pre-planned fun secret summer menu.
01:00:01
Speaker
And so you're reaching out to people or like posting on social media or sending an email blast for the week or for the next couple of days with this secret menu that's only available for these amount of days. And that's going work really well for those people that Tiffany just mentioned. So that can be super fun. Um, but also I think like having a summer menu and having summer packages available as well can piggyback off of that as well. So I would have like a secret menu in play. i would have summer packages in play and I would have a summer exclusive summer menu handy as well. And we can talk a little bit more about that when it comes to planning ahead for summer. But I think also to piggyback off of that is um,
01:00:48
Speaker
Having some pre-booking incentives, like maybe this is the time where we want to put some of those types of incentives into play. You don't always have to do with your team's um sales incentives only. You can yeah always have pre-booking incentives. You can have follow-up incentives. You can have incentives for them booking up these open spaces with that secret menu or summer menu items. um It could be a great time to implement those sales incentives for SPFs and vitamin C for the team and like run a really fun contest or contest with yourself, like reward yourself with a pair of shoes or whatever you want. If you like hit those specific goals,
01:01:31
Speaker
um And then bundle promos for summer products, like bundle some SPF with some vitamin C and like a body product or something. So there's a lot of those last minute things. And as this is coming out of my mouth, I'm going to develop a PDF download for this episode. so you guys can click the link in the show notes so that you have this. summer emergency list play and we'll put all of these ideas and you know items in there so that you can have these ideas handy um but those are the types of things like when we're talking about offering that like walk-in special the bring a friend special there's other things that you can piggyback off of that as well and like a lot of really good opportunities here
01:02:19
Speaker
Absolutely. and then having a summer menu or a summer package special or summer promo creates like urgency because we all know summer's fleeting, right? It's already past the 4th of July. We already feel like summer's on the downhill. And so that creates that urgency behind it of like, oh man,
01:02:36
Speaker
When you create such an amazing summer promo, then your clients are going like, I have to have that. And so it's going to create incentive, yes. And it's going to create excitement around that where your clients are going to be like, man, summer is getting away from me. got to get this before it's gone. So we don't want to like have this endless promo that's beautiful.
01:02:56
Speaker
going forever, right? There needs to be some parameters around it. Like you said, maybe we run it for the week. Maybe it's only available for a couple of days to free book and pay. Um, however that looks, but it does need to have like a, I think personally like an expiration or an end date on it.
01:03:12
Speaker
Yes, definitely. Yeah. I love those. Um, And then also there's always retail. Always. Always. Always. Like there's some days where I will sell more in retail than I make in the treatment room. And it's always some it always feels like a bonus to me. Always. Because it's not like necessarily quote unquote planned, even though I do plan around my retail sales at the same time, like my books are like kind of a foundation. I know what to expect. I know what's on my books. I can kind of see where my revenue is going to land. And then retail just always feels like a bonus. So if you're, um,
01:03:55
Speaker
If your schedule is slow, then that is such a wonderful opportunity to use that time to utilize on, okay, marketing your retail, talking about your retail, educating our clients on your retail, um doing an email blast about your retail, spending some time getting to know your retail on a better level so that you can have those conversations with your clients. Um, and then truly like recommending the retail. So say you've gotten several cancellations, but we still have people on our books, then all the more reason to make sure you're having conversations with the clients that you are seeing about their routine and what, where the routine is, what they're on, what's missing, what they've run out of, and making sure that we're having those conversations with everybody that comes into our treatment room.
01:04:43
Speaker
Yes. I love that. That is super, super important. Very good. Yeah. I also like to utilize my gift card list. Hopefully you have a gift card list, you know, where your gift cards have gone and who they've gone to. um so that you can refer to that and be like, okay, I've got $500 in gift cards that haven't been redeemed. And I know that, say, most of them were around Christmas time and therefore the expiration date is coming up or however that looks for you in your practice or...
01:05:19
Speaker
the team that you're working on or whatever, and then reaching out to them and being like, Hey, you have a gift card from Christmas. I would love to get you in. I actually have openings this week. How does Tuesday at two o'clock look for you and utilizing that to your advantage because nine times out of 10, a gift card can get set aside or lost, or it's a kind of an out of sight, out of mind, or it's in the back of their mind. Like, man, I need to book a facial so I can use that gift card, or I'd like to come in and shop. Um, and so,
01:05:48
Speaker
Hopefully you and or the business that you work for has access to who has gift cards and then you can use that to your advantage. If you don't, then I highly recommend, especially if you're a solo esthetician, keeping a record of where your gift cards go so that you can in the future utilize that to your advantage.
01:06:07
Speaker
Now, he so here's the question about that. So let's say Susie came in and bought a gift card, but she gifted it to her mom. Would you still reach out to Susie and just say like, hey, you know, I noticed that the gift card that you bought hasn't been redeemed, whether or not it was for you or for a guest, the expiration date is coming up.
01:06:26
Speaker
Because in that way, like, Susie could then talk to her mom, right? And be like, hey, yo, you need to book your appointment? That's a really great question. i think if I didn't have Susie's contact information, then I would, or excuse me, Susie's mom's contact information, then yes, I would contact Susie. But I try when I sell a gift card, I will always ask who it goes to. And then I will chart that in their client notes. So even if Susie bought the gift card, then and that's how I'm going to track where that gift card sale went, right? Because my system is going to track that for me, then I'm going to go to Susie's profile. And in my notes, hopefully I was a good ah record keeper at that time, I'm going to see who that gift card went to.
01:07:05
Speaker
And then if I don't have their contact information, if they've never been in before, then a yes, I would contact Susie. and say how can it say, how can I get in touch with your mom? I would love to get her in. Would you like to contact her for me? Let's get her in and get her treated. Love it.
01:07:19
Speaker
Yeah. But it really does come back to your record keeping and why taking notes is so important and so valuable. And we don't always realize that at the time it's really doing our future selves a favor.
01:07:33
Speaker
And making sure that say we work on a team for another business, if that practice isn't already in place, then that is something so valuable you can bring to management or to your boss and be like, Hey, I see that we don't actually chart on where our gift card sales go. Can I, how can I help get that system into place? What can I do to help, you know, and you can give them some numbers. You can give them like, Hey, my books are slow this week. I would really like to fill this. And like,
01:08:01
Speaker
let me work on this system for future when this happens and the whole team, the whole business as a whole would benefit from it. Yes. Really just being proactive. Definitely.
01:08:13
Speaker
i Having a referral list, asking for referrals, having a referral program, utilizing that when you're when the summer slow season pops up If you don't have a referral program and you're slow, that slow time would be such a beneficial time to implement a referral program. And you guys don't overcomplicate a referral program. It can be so simple. It can be as simple as utilizing the two people you have on your books that week and asking them for a referral and maybe giving them a little bit of an incentive for referring a friend or a family member to you.
01:08:51
Speaker
It literally doesn't have to be complicated. You don't have to have all this marketing. and You don't have to have it in your booking system. You don't have to have special cards for it. I literally will take a business card and I will write my client's name on that and give it to them, explain what I want them to do for it. And then let them know if this card comes back to me, then you save five or $10 off your next service or you get XYZ incentive.
01:09:17
Speaker
It literally can be as simple as that. And you can change it whenever you want. And it doesn't have to stick. Like you don't have to keep it just because you do it now doesn't mean you have to keep it forever. Truly.
01:09:29
Speaker
Don't overcomplicate it. Literally, it can just be a conversation. i like to give them something something tangible, like my business card, so that it like it serves as a reminder for them to not forget.
01:09:40
Speaker
But it can literally be like a text message to your your VIP clients, to your ride or die clients, and be like, hey, um hi Sally.
01:09:51
Speaker
i'm so grateful for you being such a loyal and supportive client of mine. i would love to treat... A friend or a family member, is there anyone you know that I could get in for a facial or for a whatever this week?
01:10:04
Speaker
Can literally be as simple as that. Yes. Yes. But the point is to do it. Yes. Don't just talk about it. Don't just think about it. Actually, the point is to do it and to conversate around it, to actually ask for referrals. Yes.
01:10:19
Speaker
And then last on my little list is to work on your, like send an email, send a text message blast, work on your marketing that way. If you don't have an email list, if you're not currently sending emails and or text messages, SMS it messaging, then that would be a wonderful time to implement that system.
01:10:39
Speaker
I've said it for years, like we do not own our social media accounts. It is do not put all your eggs in one basket and let that be the only way to connect and contact your clients, we really want to have be collecting email addresses, you really want to be collecting like phone numbers, obviously, you have phone numbers, if you have a booking system. But I think email hits in a different way. i like to look at SMS messaging as like, maybe, yeah, you could send like an SMS saying that you've got some last minute cancellations, like short messaging. But really, if you want to nurture that community, share some education, um
01:11:17
Speaker
kind of long form communication, email really is going to be the best way to do that. Yes, definitely. Yeah. And notice they don't have social media on this list.
01:11:30
Speaker
Yeah. yeah Like you, if you want to do that, that's great. yeah It's not number one on your list. Isn't that you need to post more. No. And don't let that be like your only tool. You can do that too. And I definitely do that too. At the same time, it's usually at the very end of everything else that we've talked about, I've done first. Yeah. And then I'll post it on my stories that I've got some openings, yeah you know? All right.
01:11:57
Speaker
So if you go back and ask yourself, i actually don't need to fill this time on my schedule and I'd like to use, utilize this time differently. Here's some wonderful things that you can do with this time.
01:12:09
Speaker
I like to, if you're going to work, I recommend still showing up to work during that time and working then, even if it's not with clients, even if it's going to be something off of this list that we're going to talk about. If it's work, do the work at work. I think that really helps separate the work life harmony that we really want to achieve and sustain and helps you stay focused. I think your time is better utilized when you're in your workspace, when you're actually working on work projects.
01:12:43
Speaker
Oh my gosh, I agree so much. And if you're an esthetician working for someone else and you don't have appointments on your schedule that day, go in anyways. Yeah. Go in anyways, at least for like the majority of your shift and you know, do these things that we're talking about. i think that's the number one mistake that I see estheticians make is like, I don't have an appointment. I'm going to go home or, you know, like go run an errand if you need to or whatever, but go to work and utilize this time wisely, you know, be proactive.
01:13:22
Speaker
Yeah, be intentional with the time. Because i think I mean, i know I've been there where I just I feel a little bit lost. And then I end up like wanting to do all these things. And then the time gets away from me. And then I'm like, man, I didn't do anything to fill my own cup. And I didn't do anything productive for work. And i actually just like wasted it. Like I could literally waste the time scrolling on social media with intention to maybe create on social media, right? That's just how like, if you don't have a set intention and you're not really devoted to that intention, then I think the time can just be wasted. And we don't want that for you either. This time is here to serve us. This time is here to serve you. The universe is serving you this time. And so truly choosing which direction you want to go and then be very intentional and um I think committed to it is really how we like move that needle forward.
01:14:17
Speaker
And so, yeah still show up at work, even if you work for somebody else. I think, I also think that that would like speak volumes to management or your boss or your other team, like be a leader for everybody else on the team.

Continued Education and Work-Life Balance

01:14:29
Speaker
But like, man, Jess is like, she doesn't have any clients and she's still here working on stuff. Heck yes. She is committed. She is devoted. like i was, and I would drive forty five minutes to work And sit there and read and clean and organize the retail. And that isliance that is why I am where I am today. i had a no problem making the commute anyways, going, hanging out, you know, i'm talking to other clients who are getting massages, you know, doing whatever needed to be done. i still commuted and I still showed up.
01:15:13
Speaker
It speaks volumes. it really does. And like you said, like talking to clients, getting massages and that that's connection that leads to opportunity, future opportunity, helping your team turn their room over, like giving a lending hand. Like there's so so much value in just showing up even when you don't have to. So much.
01:15:31
Speaker
Yeah. So much. Um, and you mentioned like cleaning or restocking your space, do a deep clean at your treatment room or your retail space, clean your retail shelves, restock your treatment room. Like there's, I, I get to my shop and I'm like, there's always stuff to be done. And most of it is cleaning like truly. And I love it. I, it just refuels my own passion for it. It reignites the space as a whole. Like there's always something to be done it If there's not, then then that's like a an indicator that you can work on something else for sure. But like, if that's at the top of your list where you're like, man, them retail shelves are looking dusty. It's been bugging you for several weeks. You know that you like need to work on it and actually place an order and there restock your room. Here is your opportunity. Yes, I love that one so much.
01:16:29
Speaker
Um, you can always mark, do work on your marketing and computer work. Like we said, work on that email list, work on an email newsletter. um there's, you can do your Canva posts, content. There's always, I think computer work to be done as well. Um, and if you get a little overwhelmed by it, like I do, i would recommend doing a brain dump of all of the all of the ideas and creations and, lists in your head and get it out on paper and then prioritize it from there. yeah And, um and you know, it doesn't have to be like, say you've got two hours on your schedule, you can you only have to do it for 20 or 30 minutes, you don't have to use that whole time to like sit in front of a computer, because that can be a little bit draining as well. You know what I mean? But at the same time, there's probably or your taxes, like that's another computer task that may need to be done. That's really been bugging you. There's so much to be said about freeing up like mental space.
01:17:27
Speaker
Yes, that you're carrying around. I know that it gets the best of me most days of like and so brain dumping is just a really great practice if you're not doing that or if you've forgotten that little practice that we've talked about for a long time. of like getting that list and those ideas and those to do's out of your head and not on paper.
01:17:49
Speaker
And then freeing up that mental space. And then that's where when we free up that mental space, that's where that creation an idea can flow so much easier. Yes.
01:18:01
Speaker
Continuing education is a big one. This is a big one that we hear, like you said earlier from estheticians of like, I need to I need to work on this. I would like to learn how to do this. I want to, I want to, I want to. And then again, my first question is where do you have the time on your schedule to actually dedicate to it? yeah And usually there is none. Usually they're working, they're going from work to home to barely personal life or a personal time. And there's just no time to fit it in. And if you, I mean, there is always something to learn. There's always something to better yourself at. And especially if you've been in the industry for a while, you know, we talked about this, I think it was on last um the last episode of like new estheticians are,
01:18:48
Speaker
just brimming with information and they're not stagnant. They're excited. They've got all of this knowledge that they're just so excited to go and do and share and learn in the treatment room and put to good use. And then you've got seasoned estheticians like you and I are just like, man, just like vitamin C actually. Like when we were putting together the vitamin course, there was so much that I did learn in aesthetic school 15 years ago that I really didn't like put two and two together and understand. Yeah. Until like years later of working in the treatment room and actually working on skin. Yes. it's So yeah, work on your continuing education. If you don't have any continuing education to work on, you can always find something at the beyond the sex we've got.
01:19:33
Speaker
We've got lots. Yeah.
01:19:36
Speaker
um And then looking ahead at your next quarter or season. So we're in summer right now. Utilize this time to plan ahead for your fall and winter promotions, your holiday promotions, um your menu, if you like to do seasonal stuff for your menu, any packages you would like to put together. literally like plan them. Now you should always actually be working like a season ahead. Right. So summertime, whether you're slow or busy right now is the time where you do need to be planning your fall and winter time promotions, we'll call them.
01:20:13
Speaker
Yeah. And if you get really good at that, which, you know, we encourage that practice of like, you know, getting better and better at planning ahead and like having that on your schedule to plan your seasonal promotions, then Summer would have already been taken care of for you. You'd be going into summer prepared, which is just another thing to just kind of add is like this does happen every year. So, you know, in March, let's prepare in April. Let's be prepared for what's about to come for summer so that we can actually mitigate
01:20:45
Speaker
the potential for it being slow, more than anything, then we just have to worry about filling in those cancellations. So we can always plan ahead for the seasons, especially when we know it's kind of a dip season.
01:20:59
Speaker
Absolutely. Super important. And then also scheduling off your time ahead, like what you mentioned earlier, it's super important to look at your next quarter, your next season, and making sure that you are blocking some time off for yourself, blocking the time off you want for holidays or special occasions, or if you've got a trip that you'd like to work in somewhere with your family and literally just going like, nobody's going to do that for you.
01:21:24
Speaker
Or like requesting time off if you work for somebody else. Like nobody's going to do that for you. Nobody's going to say, Jess, you know what? I think that you worked really hard all summer and we're going to give you a week off in September. Like nobody is going to present that to you. You're going to have to be the one to have authority over your life and your schedule to make sure you have the time off that you want and need. And giving yourself credit that you deserve it.
01:21:50
Speaker
that it's okay to step away from your business, that it's okay to take that time off, that it's actually so necessary for you to let your business rest or your practice. Like when I say business, I mean your practice, your career, to let your career rest so that you can go live your life. Because again, we are building this career. We are building...
01:22:10
Speaker
this career to fit inside a very beautiful and fulfilled and peaceful and joyful life. Not the other way around. We don't want any of you to be operating your life on the outside of your a career, where your career makes the decisions for when you get to take vacation with your family for when your career makes the decisions on if you get to take a Saturday off here and there, like that is your choice. But it really does come from you and your own being on being okay to like step away, especially if you're high achiever.
01:22:45
Speaker
like you and I are, and it's like, it can be hard. I like, I know that I'm a workaholic. it It's been a practice to set it down and let it be yeah and trust that it's actually so necessary for the career itself, for the business itself to rest. And for me to go fill my cup and do the things that I want to do. Because life is like, it's so, it's going so fast. So freaking fast. I'm like, holy cow, we are 40. Where did the last freaking 20 years go? i don't know. It's been really great. And I'm looking ahead at like, man, these next 20 years, I'm going to be so intentional with.
01:23:27
Speaker
um So intentional. Yes. I love it. You can also do a model call and create some content. I think that's a wonderful time when you've got extra time on your schedule to do that. And, um and, or you can do a model call if you really want to practice a skill and say you've got a newer treatment that you're would really like to get better at and um be more confident in that can be a model call. Or if you want to create some con and, or if you want to create some content around it,
01:23:56
Speaker
bring a model in, bring a f friend in, you know, have your sister come in or your mom or your aunt or grandma. Actually, anybody who has a grandma still, your nice grandmas are passed away. Unfortunately, i that is the one regret that I have so much that I did not treat my grandma to facials more than my grandma that lived here when she was still alive. yeah And so if your grandma is still alive,
01:24:20
Speaker
call your grandma. Your grandma will come in and take that time on your schedule. I guarantee guarantee you. And really she just wants to spend time with you. um It is also a great time to create systems and programs like a ref referral program yeah or your email list. And again, it kind of goes back to like looking ahead and planning for a slow summer season, like you said. So like in, you know, right now would be a great time to create some systems.
01:24:48
Speaker
to utilize the PDF list that we're going in the show notes and have that in our file and really like look ahead on like how you can prevent this. Cause really springtime would have been the time to prevent the slow time in our summer schedule. Yeah. Right. Or just looking ahead and being, having some tools in our back pocket to navigate it when it comes. Yes, definitely.
01:25:12
Speaker
And then when you're working at work, you work on your Google SEO, super important, so much more important than your social media. If you don't have a, my Google business page or you're, you're the company that you work for doesn't have one or, and, or doesn't spend time on it. It is such a great opportunity to spend time on it. You can post your promotions on your Google, make sure your Google listing is up to date with current pictures and videos, and especially your menu, your description about your business or your practice. Um,
01:25:49
Speaker
Obviously your hours are correct. Like all of those things are super important. And just like your, say your Instagram or your Tik TOK or your Facebook, spending time on your Google is going to help your Google listing move closer to the top when somebody searches for your services in the area that you're in. Yeah. I think our Google class is still live.
01:26:12
Speaker
It is. So you guys buy our Google class for 27 bucks. It's so cheap. We actually never took it down because we have people who randomly want to take it And so we kind of just left it And so if you do want to learn more about Google, it's a short and sweet, cheap class that is so valuable. so that is literally, well, I'll put it back in the show notes, but you can always on our, um,
01:26:37
Speaker
social media and our link trees, there's a link to the Google class in there too. So it's easy to access or you can just DM us and we'll send you the link. But that would be a really good idea too. It's actually like one of the easiest ways to boost your visibility in your area.
01:26:53
Speaker
And again, like has nothing to do with social media, but I like to pull my content from social media and post it over on my Google. It's just like easy. So I don't have to like recreate the wheel. I'm not out there taking new content. I'll just take it from my social media. It's so easy. Like it takes five minutes to update your Google. yeah But you want to be consistent. That's something that is the most important aspect when it comes to Google is making sure that you're consistent with it and that you're not just revisiting it like once every three months or something. Right.
01:27:21
Speaker
Absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, i think that we've kind of decided even 10 minutes a week, like probably enough. It doesn't need to be anything crazy and system systematizing it makes it that much quicker and easier and more powerful. Yeah.
01:27:36
Speaker
Do you know what i love about Google more so than social media is there's, there's no pressure that comes along with it. Like with social media, even though I love it, there is a certain pressure of like performing a little bit yeah or just being like on, i think. And with Google and you're like, man, i can just like literally post what I need to post and update what I need to update. And then it's good. Like i don't have to,
01:28:01
Speaker
be feel like I've got to like be on or be in the right mood to do it or, you know, all of these like weird emotions that come with social media. Totally. Yeah. So great.
01:28:13
Speaker
And then again, just want to take this time to like plan ahead for the next season. Like we cannot reiterate that enough. And the next season of like, okay, falls around the corner. What are we doing for fall in winter and next season of like the next slow season in whether it's expected or not not, we can expect summer to be a little bit slow for sure.
01:28:34
Speaker
um and then there's sometimes there's some crazy weeks who knows if it's connected to the moon or whatever but sometimes we just have these random weeks throughout the year that are just like man what is happening i've had so many cancellations this week um there are so many sick people this week like it's just could be a cosmic shift who knows and those are just those unexpected slow seasons that we can't really get ahead of We can't really get like an analytical report or timeline on, and we can still have systems in place and a plan in place for if and when they happen. They always happen.
01:29:08
Speaker
Always. and And again, it's like, it's not personal. They just happen. And um and now you're going to have tools actually and a list of things to do and work on if and when they do. Yes. Okay.
01:29:23
Speaker
And it's an opportunity. for It's really what it is. It really is. Yeah. Couldn't agree more. And then if say you asked yourself like, okay, I want to utilize this time differently, but I actually don't need to work or I don't want to work. I actually am feeling a little bit um like I'm not giving myself or my family attention like I should be. My business is actually fine or my career is actually fine and I'm okay to step a away and let it just be. I'm going to let it rest.
01:29:55
Speaker
This is such a wonderful opportunity if you're in that state or if you're feeling that pull trust it and to really utilize this time intentionally to fill your own cup. So then you can in turn continue to fill and pour.
01:30:10
Speaker
from a full cup and fill the cups of the ones that you love, whether that's your clients, your family, yourself, like we cannot operate from an empty reservoir. We truly do need to have dedicated time. And oftentimes I think as women, for sure as moms, for sure, as entrepreneurs, for sure, we tend to revert to the back burner just by, i think it's a gen, honestly, I think it's a generational trauma thing that we are still working really hard as a collective to heal. yes
01:30:41
Speaker
And we can forget that like, yes, we know that we operate from a full cup at a better pace at a better, um, internal state and life can still happen and get on top of us for sure. And so if this time in your schedule is presenting itself and you're really like, you know what,
01:31:03
Speaker
I just need to step away. I just need some time for me. Trust it i I beg of you. i pray for you to truly trust it. If it's even in your mind, if it's even in your like soul of like, I really don't want to work this week. And I would really love to do this for myself or with my kids. That is your calling that actually the universe is like, you need some time. You need some rest. You need some you. I want to love you and pour into you. So please take it. i like can't reiterate that enough. I, and again, like I'm saying that from my own, my own soul, because it's hard.
01:31:46
Speaker
It's hard to turn it off when it's on yeah and it's hard to step away and it's hard to trust. And it's hard to be like, yeah, but I have all these things and I've got this vision and I've got these goals and I've got this freaking to-do list and my soul is tired. Yeah.
01:32:00
Speaker
And so, There's like, that can look so many beautiful ways for you. Yep. I have a short list and then I want, if there's anything else, Jess, I want you to share. So like, go to the gym, go take a Pilates class, go take a yoga class, go do some yoga out in the park or, you know, Go for a walk, go for a freaking hike, like actually move your body. i think that's at the top of my list because it's so um I know it's so beneficial for me to like move some energy when I've got this energy of like, I should, I should, I should.
01:32:35
Speaker
and I know my soul is tired and I need some me time. That's like an indicator for me. Like, okay, I'm gonna move this should energy and I'm gonna work my body in some way that fills my cup. And then I can like go into a more state of rest and being that I need.
01:32:53
Speaker
Does that make sense? Absolutely. Yeah. um Go get coffee with a friend or go get lunch with a friend or go take yourself out on a date by yourself. Like truly go like connection. I think it's so important for as like womanhood and a sisterhood. And it's a different kind of connection and it can look at,
01:33:13
Speaker
ah It can look either way. Sometimes i need like connection that's outside of the treatment room. And sometimes I don't. Sometimes I just actually just need time with myself because I've had so much connection and so much energetic exchange that I actually just need like that alone time. So however you're designed for sure, just like lean into that and And you know, nine times out of 10, if you're like, man, I'd love to go to lunch at this one place. And then you've got this like time on your schedule. And they're like, man, I haven't seen so-and-so in a while. Like freaking text her and see if she's available and go take her out to lunch or take your guys out to lunch. So i love that.
01:33:52
Speaker
Spend time with your kids. Like if you're choosing not to be at work, but your kids are like on, like say with a babysitter or whatever, and you've been feeling this mom guilt of like not doing something fun with them during the summertime, freaking go get your kids and go do something fun with them. um I can't recommend that enough. It will surprise them. It will fill your own cup.
01:34:12
Speaker
And it's like when it's out of routine and unexpected, I think it can be like some of the most special memories and time for sure. be spontaneous, maybe go out of town for the day. Maybe, i don't know. there There's like a million ways you can be spontaneous. I'm not a super spontaneous person, but sometimes the opportunity arises and i'm like, I'm just going go do this. So I love that.
01:34:36
Speaker
And then you could also just like be alone. Maybe you just need to go home alone because no one's at home. Like, you know, your partner's at work, the kids are off doing whatever. And you just want to go home and like be home alone because you haven't been home alone a lot.
01:34:48
Speaker
actually had that opportunity a couple weeks ago and it was freaking divine.
01:34:53
Speaker
The only thing I would add is to sleep. ah And that's just like, that's a me thing. i can get really behind on sleep. And so whenever I have a morning where I'm like, Oh, you know what? I'm really feeling this and I don't have any appointments. And so I'm actually just not going to set an alarm today.
01:35:12
Speaker
um' or I'm going to go lay down for a couple of hours and I actually am a huge, huge advocate for as much sleep as possible. So even if you're just feeling like you need to catch up on sleep, do that.
01:35:28
Speaker
Yes. Yes. I would agree wholeheartedly. I love to nap. It's one of my favorite pastimes in the whole world. Yeah. And I think they're like summertime, you know, it's usually stays light later. We're usually getting to bed later. the sun is up early. So we're actually usually running on less sleep in the summertime yeah and there's like lots going on. Right. You know, we're,
01:35:51
Speaker
Oh, I know. i mean, freaking, I tuck myself in at 11 o'clock and my kids are still up. yeah And so I'm just like a little bit running on the reserve in the summertime anyway. So sleep is such a huge, huge piece of the puzzle, I think for filling your own cup. Yeah.
01:36:05
Speaker
Yeah. And then I'm going to recommend staying off of social media during this time. There's a difference between getting on there to create maybe even engage maybe even engage And there's a difference between just getting on there because you have nothing to do and getting sucked into the doom scrolling and sucked into the comparison and trap. I think for me, that's a big one of like, that I've like, it's just been a practice over the years of like, when I'm feeling already down a little bit, like, you know, my books are slow, my sales are down. And then I get on social media and I see so-and-so doing wonderful or appearing to do wonderful. It just makes me feel like shit.
01:36:46
Speaker
And it's nothing against them. Nothing at all. It's my own internal state of being. And I know that and I recognize that. And at the same time, ignorance is bliss. And so if I'm not, if it's not in my face, then it's not like consuming me either. And so by just like intentionally staying off of social media when I'm in that state is just so much more beneficial for my mental health and my emotional health.
01:37:11
Speaker
And so if you're feel yourself falling into a comparison trap or doom scrolling, then I would really recommend just choosing to stay off of it or creating some time blocks around it or using the Opal app that just has a code for you. If you have not implemented that and you would like to try it, I'm sure she would love to put that that in the show notes for you as well.
01:37:35
Speaker
Um,

Creator vs. Victim Triangle Theory

01:37:37
Speaker
And then like, don't use social media as your only tool. Like we mentioned, like, yes, you can post your openings and your stories or hop on your stories and talk about maybe certain product that you'd like to promote, or if you want to create that content, create it and then choose like to engage if you've got comments or questions that you need to respond to and then just get off of the app. yeah That's really what I do. I'll go on and post, I'll do the engagement that I need to, and then I will just get right back off of it. Yeah. And I'm just super intentional around it. And I have a strong boundary around it. And then i'm not, then I like, don't get sucked into it. Yeah.
01:38:16
Speaker
I love it. What a great episode. Such a great episode. I have one more thing that I want to share with you before we wrap up is that your creator versus trying victim triangle theory.
01:38:29
Speaker
I've not talked about this on the show before, and but I have talked about it in our masterminds before. And this is... um A piece of emotional intelligence that my coach, Natty, shared with me a couple years ago that has really, really, really benefited my life and my family's life. um And it's so simple. And it's, um I don't know who the original creator of this was, so I can't even credit them, but this is what it is. So it's the creator versus victim triangle theory. And if you haven't heard this before,
01:39:02
Speaker
what it is, is if you picture a upside down triangle, and if you're not watching the video, that's okay. So picture an upside down triangle. So you've got the point of the triangle on its head, and then you've got this, like the flat top facing up.
01:39:18
Speaker
And if you picture that triangle on its tippy top point, and if you go up to the side of that triangle to try and push it over, it would easily tip over one way or the other, right? Because it does not have a strong foundation. It's on the very tip. So you could go up to the side of it and it would just tip right over. So that is your victim triangle. ah That is a very weak triangle. And so a triangle has three sides. So on that very weak triangle that's tipped on its top, we have on one side a victim, the other side a persecutor, and then on the third side, a rescuer. And you can Google this theory. You can research this theory to get a little bit deeper understanding about it. But I'm just going to share the Cliff Notes version of it.
01:40:02
Speaker
And so when we find ourselves in a victim state, We are at a low vibration. We can very easily be tipped over on our side and get our lid flipped and go into,
01:40:16
Speaker
um I think we can, that's where we can spiral. And so being a victim, like what does it mean to be a victim, Jess?
01:40:27
Speaker
Being a victim means so you literally think the world is out to get you. So no matter what happens, you feel like the world is against you. People are against you. The world is against you. The universe is working against you.
01:40:40
Speaker
Yeah. Nothing goes right. Like literally you're just in like a very negative, like you said, the world is out to get you like, Oh, of course that would happen because that always happens to me type of state. Right. Yeah.
01:40:53
Speaker
And then being a persecutor would mean that you're looking at everybody else that it's their fault of why a situation or your state or your life is the way it is. Like, oh, I'm not busy because Sally down the road is so successful and she's busy and she started doing the very same services that I'm doing. And so we persecute her for the reason maybe why in this case, like our books are slow or our sales are down, right? Or like being a persecutor could mean like, well, the industry is flooded. There are so many estheticians out there and that's why I'm not busy is because they're like, there's only so much of a piece of the pie and I'm just getting a little sliver and they're taking the rest of it, right? And then to be a rescuer would mean that we're always looking for somebody to
01:41:50
Speaker
rescue us in the situation that we're in. And we can rescue ourselves. Like we can be rescuers of ourselves too. So like kind of making excuses for why a reason is or why something is the way it is or looking for validation. Like I'll give you an example of a good rescue situation. My 12 year old, um, works for our neighbor. He mows her lawn and weed eats for her.
01:42:15
Speaker
And he does, he worked for her one morning a week, like three or four hours. Right. And so the month of June was super busy and he works on Fridays. The month of June is super busy and he wasn't able to work like three or four Fridays in a row for her. And he would always communicate with her last minute, like late at night on a Thursday night.
01:42:32
Speaker
Hey, sorry, I can't work tomorrow. I have. baseball. Hey, sorry, I can't work tomorrow. I've got football camp, dah, dah, dah, dah. And then she was upset with him because of his poor communication. And I really do think she was like trying to teach him a lesson in this. And I was having the conversation with him. I'm like, and he was like, will you go talk to her for me? And I'm like, I'm not going to rescue you in this situation. You need to go have a conversation with her. You were a big enough boy to go and get this job with her and work this out with her. And she's upset with you because you, it was your poor communication. If you would have let her know ahead of time that you weren't going to be able to work for her that week, she would have probably understood. But he's like, please, please, please go talk to her for me. I'm like, I will not rescue you in this situation, which is hard, right?
01:43:17
Speaker
So hard. And so that is what being a rescuer means. He was wanting me to go talk to her for him and make it better. And I wasn't willing to rescue him because I knew that he needed to just go have that hard conversation with her. And once he did, he would feel better, or she would feel better, da da da.
01:43:35
Speaker
So that's what being a rescuer means, okay? So now we take our strong triangle. If you tip that weak triangle over and we've got our strong triangle where it's right side up, we've got the big strong base on the ground And the triangle is facing the right side up. And so if you go up to that strong triangle and try and push it over, you literally can't because that base is so strong. It is solid. We've got a good foundation. So this is our creator triangle.
01:44:03
Speaker
So on each side of this triangle, we've got one side is the creator, one side is the challenger, and then the other side is the coach. And so this is a high vibration, very productive, very sustainable, um progressive, if you will, state of being. and this is where we really want to, when we find ourselves being a victim, persecutor, or rescuer, we really want to flip our own triangle right side up and have that strong base on the ground and be either a creator
01:44:39
Speaker
where that can look like we're not worried about what anybody else is doing. We're not looking to for anybody else to tell us what to do. We're really in our own creation and we're actually like creating from our being, we're creating from God, from source, and we're we're doing it in a way that is impactful, that's valuable, that is attached to our purpose and our calling.
01:45:06
Speaker
I just love their creator's state of being. And then the other side can also look like a challenger. And we can also challenge ourselves of like, okay, I actually have this time on my schedule.
01:45:17
Speaker
And i'm feeling pretty good about where I'm at with myself and my home life. I've got a lot of time on my schedule for personal time and family time. I'm I've got this long list of stuff that I need to do that I don't really want to do, but I'm going to challenge myself to do one or two things on that list during this time. We can challenge ourselves to basically get over our own shit and do the damn thing. And does that make sense? And we can, or we can look to somebody else to challenge us too. Like sometimes, like Jess is really good at challenging me. Sometimes she'll be pretty frank with me and be like,
01:45:57
Speaker
okay, I hear you and you've been sitting in your own shit for a minute and you need to like get up and do this or you need to do that. So you can challenge others, you can challenge yourselves, you can look to others to challenge you and challengers will sometimes piss you off.
01:46:16
Speaker
It's not always gonna be what you wanna hear. Because there's a difference between a rescuer and a challenger. If you're going to somebody, if I'm going to Jess and I'm like telling her all these complaints and she's just validating me and she knows I'm wrong in this situation, she would be rescuing me in that situation. But if I go to Jess and I'm telling her everything and she's like, yes, I hear you, i see you, i understand and...
01:46:43
Speaker
actually, if maybe you would have handled that situation differently, or maybe if you would have done this, challenged me to be better, to be more aligned with my higher self, that is what being a challenger is. It's not always what you're going to want to hear, but it's always going to be what you need to hear.
01:47:00
Speaker
If you want to be challenged, you can come to me, but don't complain later. true ah So true. Because again, you're going to challenge them to be like,
01:47:14
Speaker
uh-uh, we're not doing this. I'm not gonna rescue you in this situation. and then on that last side of the strong triangle, we have our coach, which again, like Jess, you're so good at being a coach of like, we're gonna coach you through the this. We're going, I'm gonna help you. I'm going to give you my resources and some knowledge and some wisdom, and I'm gonna lead the way for you to do the same. And that's really like what you and i do And that's what Beyond Aesthetics is about. is we are creators, we are challengers, we are coaches, and we are creating creators, challengers, and coaches in aesthetics industry. And that's what I love about this platform. And I love about this industry because we actually are just attracting more of the same. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
01:48:03
Speaker
So that's my little triangle example. creator versus victim theory for you Utilize it as you will take it as you will use it with your kids. I think it's a really great practice to do with your family, with your partner, with your kids. Um, you can simplify it. You can research it a little bit more, look up the images, the graphics that go along with it. It's really powerful. It's really a wonderful practice to use, not only in your career, but in your personal life as well.
01:48:31
Speaker
And, um, Yeah, use it, use it however you need to. You can use it with your team. It would be a really fun practice to do if you're, if you lead a team to do at your team meetings and lead with them because it really does make everybody who hears it realize like, oh, we've all been in the upside down triangle. We've all been a victim. We've all persecuted. We've all rescued. And it does help you realize like when you do get turned upside down, do you want to stay there actually? Or do you want to turn yourself right side up? and move forward in a positive way.
01:49:09
Speaker
love it. Yeah. Thank you for sharing that. It's really, really empowering and literally such amazing food for thought. Yeah. You're welcome.
