Denis Tyrell: What's happening, everybody? Welcome to another Triple T podcast for knife makers. This week. Dennis is out. Where's he at? He's like on a schnitzel tour.

Denis Tyrell: ah Going around at the... the, um, the Austria knife show. And, uh, I have the awesome privilege to have 2. Two awesome individuals here.

Denis Tyrell: Go ahead and introduce yourself boys.

Coy Baker: Matt you're first

Denis Tyrell: Dang!

Grippy McGripperston: all right while i'm I'm Matt Creams with GripTech Composites.

Coy Baker: ah

Coy Baker: And I'm Corey Baker of Baker Forge and Tool.

Denis Tyrell: Right on, guys. Well, I appreciate you ah popping in and filling in for Dennis so we can actually have some fun. and ah

Coy Baker: since in

Denis Tyrell: Get going here. So we were just talking about that. and ah Matt said, Teemu Dennis and coy and i both we just couldn't figure out who he was talking about

Coy Baker: ah good

Coy Baker: but I mean, I'm pretty sure you said he was talking about me. So.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Well I'm trying not to.

Grippy McGripperston: us.

Denis Tyrell: Totally pin that on you, but

Grippy McGripperston: It's really talking about Jared, but you know.

Coy Baker: like

Denis Tyrell: i mean because it can go both ways here you know kind of like man but uh the uh

Coy Baker: laughter

Grippy McGripperston: Well, you know

Denis Tyrell: ah

Coy Baker: ah ah

Grippy McGripperston: we're off to a great start already i love it

Denis Tyrell: Oh no, man. so how you guys been what's going on i haven't uh coy and i were in the in the green room air quotes and um it was kind of awkward because I didn't really want to talk to him because I kind of want to get all the info right now.

Coy Baker: right yeah we're sitting there trying not to share any little You know. tidbits of about our lives where both are staring at each other going. mm -hmm

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. And then and we had this also this really weird. thing happened where there's some green room guests that just kept popping in and popping, popping in and popping out.

Grippy McGripperston: What do you know?

Denis Tyrell: So we almost didn't get Matt in here, but we got him.

Grippy McGripperston: i'm not a pro like you so

Denis Tyrell: Okay. Right on

Coy Baker: At one point it said there were two of you in here, or trying to get in here.

Denis Tyrell: True.

Grippy McGripperston: Whoa.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: We're not ready for that.

Denis Tyrell: No. There is no room in this world. for two mats.

Grippy McGripperston: No.

Denis Tyrell: That's like two Jareds.

Grippy McGripperston: terrible

Denis Tyrell: I don't wish that upon anybody.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah, a few people, but you know.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: It's alright, they're not here tonight, so.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. That's right.

Grippy McGripperston: Take care.

Denis Tyrell: So what's up?

Coy Baker: Yeah, so.

Denis Tyrell: How we how we been?

Coy Baker: Good. Good, good, good. Busy, busy. I mean, I'm not gonna speak for Matt. But, you know. Busy busy here um I saw, Matt, you did ah Black Friday.

Coy Baker: early this year, really early.

Grippy McGripperston: yeah

Coy Baker: And I wanted to jump on or hit on that a little bit because I want to know how it went for you guys. doing it that early because I have thought in the past about doing that. Because ah we obviously supply. the same. customer base.

Coy Baker: and the same market. Um, So, yeah, well let maybe you start there. How did that Black Friday sale go for you?

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah. So we did our Black Friday sale at the end of September. I can't believe it's already been a month ago. um mainly just to kind of help push out product to makers so they have stuff to use on their black friday knives um or if you're jared maybe like black friday 2029 Um...

Denis Tyrell: How did I gain a year?

Grippy McGripperston: <unk> right

Denis Tyrell: Good God.

Grippy McGripperston: Damn.

Denis Tyrell: ah

Grippy McGripperston: Oh. I'm trying to be optimistic, so I was going to say 2030, but know it ah it went really well.

Denis Tyrell: Jeez.

Grippy McGripperston: I think with it breaking the mold, there was probably a little less traffic than I expected, but it exceeded my expectations overall. I wasn't really sure what to expect.

Grippy McGripperston: um But yeah, it went really well for us. and i'm curious to see how black that goes for my customers.

Coy Baker: I imagine...

Coy Baker: I imagine... I mean, because you're not having to compete with all of the rest of the Black Friday traffic. on the internet, right?

Grippy McGripperston: right yeah

Coy Baker: You're the only person pushing Black Friday. at all I mean, even the big companies aren't pushing it. then. so

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Coy Baker: If you looked at your your traffic stats from last year, the last time you ran Black Friday. um

Grippy McGripperston: Mm hmm.

Coy Baker: Was it more traffic, do you think?

Grippy McGripperston: um it was less overall um less traffic less sales overall but i think with the being outside of the mold a little bit that Probably didn't do us any favors, but I think that's what my new...

Grippy McGripperston: um Focus is going to be. I'm just kind of doing it ahead. and Maybe we'll work on something in the future to get other material people on board. Ten -hut. Nudge, nudge.

Coy Baker: Bro. There were... I mean, there was a part of me that really wanted to call Waylon and be like, hey, ah so tomorrow we're starting Black Friday because Matt started early and I can't let him be ahead of me.

Grippy McGripperston: but

Coy Baker: so

Denis Tyrell: That's great.

Coy Baker: Let's crank it up

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah, no, it was just something I like to try and keep things fresh and kind of think outside the box a little bit And that was one of those things where I'm like, you know It'll get you know, even if makers don't want to do Black Friday sales they can get it Uh...

Grippy McGripperston: early for you know holiday sales or holiday builds you know, whatever um

Coy Baker: Huff.

Denis Tyrell: Yep.

Coy Baker: How far in advance did you announce the sale?

Grippy McGripperston: See ya. We're done.

Grippy McGripperston: Um... You'll have to talk to my marketing guy about that. um

Coy Baker: ah Hey John, John.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah. We should have had him on. um um I think just about two or three weeks. I think we could have probably hit it a little harder. um you know, starting probably about.

Coy Baker: Oh, wow. So you hit it.

Grippy McGripperston: a month.

Coy Baker: So two or three weeks though, before the sale actually started.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah, I think I started hinting at it about then. And then I kind of slow rolled the deals because I was still finalizing some ideas and whatnot.

Coy Baker: Good.

Grippy McGripperston: Had to get a handful of stuff on the site finished up. and working correctly too. Because we...

Coy Baker: Gotcha.

Grippy McGripperston: unveiled a new site recently as well, so that was... Had to kind of make sure it was up and running for... the increase in traffic.

Coy Baker: sure right well that's interesting i didn't realize you had started

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Coy Baker: promoting it that far out because i was going to be a recommendation would be like just you know. start pushing a little earlier, but you. I mean, two, three weeks, that's... That's about the right timeline, I would think.

Denis Tyrell: That's about when I got when that's about when I got wind of it was about two or three weeks But it wasn't, it was kind of, it's coming. It's coming.

Grippy McGripperston: Yes.

Denis Tyrell: Not quite sure when.

Grippy McGripperston: Kind of a tumbleweed in the wind.

Denis Tyrell: And then, look, if you ask me, I...

Grippy McGripperston: and

Denis Tyrell: I kept on talking about it after it was over.

Grippy McGripperston: but

Denis Tyrell: so

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: You know? ah

Grippy McGripperston: Jared still thinks it's going on, but...

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: it

Grippy McGripperston: I had to end the sale at some point.

Denis Tyrell: What?

Grippy McGripperston: The deals are too good.

Denis Tyrell: I mean, Koi, I'm thinking to myself, so you know, right now as you're saying it, I mean, there's. You still got time.

Coy Baker: my ah My drop schedule is... already said i mean i the black friday stuff is already in in rhythm it would be way too much work to change it now so

Denis Tyrell: Cool.

Denis Tyrell: Gotcha. gotcha Okay.

Coy Baker: But next year. I'm highly considering doing this. Because I really like the concept.

Denis Tyrell: Dude, it was...

Coy Baker: of doing it.

Denis Tyrell: it

Coy Baker: early.

Denis Tyrell: It was definitely a fresh idea and a really cool. Um, Yeah, it was just really cool because... Normally, they... you know you get the black friday and Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: your're You got to crush. you know i mean it would work for me but everyone else that actually like finishes stuff uh you know it's not much time to put things to use so um

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: I was hoping it was a banger.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: is

Coy Baker: yep

Grippy McGripperston: It went well. I mean, it I exceeded my goals by about 2x, so... i didn't have very lofty goals because i wasn't sure how it was going to work but Yeah, it went well. Um,

Grippy McGripperston: I...

Coy Baker: nice

Grippy McGripperston: An interesting thing is... A lot of my normal customers didn't actually take advantage of it. So I think that's another. you know opportunity to communicate it a little bit. more.

Denis Tyrell: Hmm.

Coy Baker: Yeah, I mean maybe even just having a set date when you were Let it.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Announcing it ahead of time.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: mighta Might have helped.

Grippy McGripperston: Yep. I think that. Probably would have helped as well, so. But it went well.

Coy Baker: That's interesting though.

Grippy McGripperston: I'm happy with it. Yeah.

Coy Baker: We've been testing something new as well And I don't remember, Jared, if you guys mentioned this on the podcast last week or the week before. ah But... We're doing the whole... pre -orders now.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. No, we did.

Coy Baker: every once in a while.

Grippy McGripperston: so glad

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Yeah, so we Got that big. shipment of wrought iron. And that's kind of what kicked it off. because i was like hey let's let's make a quick batch of this wrought iron sand mine It's real simple real easy.

Coy Baker: Because it's some of the... best wrought iron I've ever seen. And. I think it was Waylon or Sam was like, hey, what if we did a preorder so people could order the size they want? And, you know, we've always kind of avoided that a little bit just because We've avoided a make the order. right so people ordering single bars and whatnot and us making one bar at a time.

Coy Baker: But we thought, you know what, if we just opened up the pre -order. for a certain window closed it and then had a production window at the end built in to our schedule so we knew that was coming. then maybe it could work. and so the the wrought iron pre -order was kind of a test And it went.

Coy Baker: Phenomenally well. Really, really well.

Denis Tyrell: Oh good.

Grippy McGripperston: That's good.

Coy Baker: People like... the ability to buy exactly What size? bar they want. And so... We are going to start mixing that in. um It was.

Denis Tyrell: Bye.

Coy Baker: Oh sorry, go ahead.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. oh Yeah, on the on the on the maker side, you know, you get, yeah, you got to. You got to beat the rush. You know, you got the app people, you got the website. and then you know if you're Fucking.

Denis Tyrell: tying your shoes, you know, that that particular bar size that you want is gone. So having the opportunity to, you know, lock in on something that fits your exact needs was, I think that was a great idea.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah, that's a pro tip.

Coy Baker: Yes.

Grippy McGripperston: Slip your shoes on so you don't miss out on the Baker drop.

Denis Tyrell: Yep.

Coy Baker: Right.

Denis Tyrell: i can't do anything else if i'm tying my shoes i mean come on

Coy Baker: Right.

Denis Tyrell: you guys Fuck him. That is a pro tip. Velcro, boys.

Coy Baker: We know you. yeah You have slip -ons. We know you have slip -ons. Um...

Coy Baker: let's See? You're a Crocs man.

Grippy McGripperston: and

Denis Tyrell: it's actually canes but yeah same thing yeah now my boy

Grippy McGripperston: I'll do my house slippers. okay I don't wear those in public unless I'm going to Walmart.

Denis Tyrell: Okay.

Denis Tyrell: Oh.

Grippy McGripperston: I got that.

Denis Tyrell: One day you'll get over the shame, my friend. One day you'll get over the shame.

Grippy McGripperston: all over the same. just the pain of

Denis Tyrell: the

Grippy McGripperston: Being old.

Denis Tyrell: Okay. That's funny.

Coy Baker: ah

Denis Tyrell: Well, that's cool.

Coy Baker: Well, yeah. we're We're enjoying this whole pre -order thing. Because it actually... it breaks up our production schedule. in a cool way because During the entire week, we're marketing for a pre -order. is a week that... They're not having to make steel for a drop.

Coy Baker: because they're making that the next week and so they can use that week to get ahead

Grippy McGripperston: Hmm.

Coy Baker: Um, on if they need to get ahead on production for custom you know, commercial orders or a different drop or something like that it really broke our schedule up enough cool way so kind of stumbled onto something that we're really enjoying and so is our customers so we're gonna mix that in a lot more often now

Grippy McGripperston: That's awesome. How's that work on the back end? Is that just a... app through your website. Or is it you just use like forms?

Coy Baker: No, it's just a function of the site. i mean that

Grippy McGripperston: Okay.

Coy Baker: I just... turn If as a product's out of stock, I can turn on the option to i'll accept pre -orders.

Grippy McGripperston: Ciao.

Coy Baker: for that and So I just... used AI to build the variant list because there's like 970 variants. when you let them pick their... Length and width and thickness. and all that, so.

Grippy McGripperston: Right.

Coy Baker: Yeah, there's a lot of variance. but We just built a specific. product listing left it as out of stock, and then turned on pre -order.

Grippy McGripperston: Huh.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: That's cool.

Denis Tyrell: How often are you guys using AI in your... in your day to day. Business stuff. Like I know for a while, guys.

Coy Baker: A lot.

Denis Tyrell: ever Uh huh.

Grippy McGripperston: Yep.

Coy Baker: A lot.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: Every day.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. That's good. I mean, I don't know if it's good.

Coy Baker: Yeah, I mean

Denis Tyrell: but or Or bad. I'm just saying. I actually... I've had this really negative connotation towards AI. I remember when it first. Game out, you know. a year ago or when you know people were doing the uh the the videos and then making all their logos and then all their pictures and stuff like that i thought it was really taken away from some some creativity because um yeah That's just how I was feeling. and Even and professionally, though, when I went to this convention a couple... weeks back.

Denis Tyrell: The, um... There was a hole. bunch of seminars on kind of like integrating uh that into the process and yeah i had this real Realization that. It's either ah get right or get left kind of scenario because Everyone's going to use it. It.

Denis Tyrell: the question was like, what can this do in your, in your normal day to day? Deal. ah That could cut down some of your your you know, me. um repetitive tasks and then what else could you how more productive could you be with that time doing everything else and I don't ever think about.

Denis Tyrell: you know, all of the actual business stuff that you guys do, you know, it's just shiny products and, you know, cool people and reels and stuff. But I could imagine like. you know, you just bringing that up that you guys, it has to be.

Denis Tyrell: pretty beneficial for you and in the numbers game and organize it in You know, i'm I'm curious to hear.

Coy Baker: Well,

Denis Tyrell: how you guys are using it.

Coy Baker: Yeah, I mean you hit right on it it's the medial I mean, one a big aspect of it is the medial tasks That are. repetitive or It's just a time waster, right?

Coy Baker: That could be easily automated.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: um for an example for us is uploading variants to the site i touched on it all already But even when we do normal drops, right, we have a list of custom size bars. And those all need to be.

Coy Baker: Somehow. uploaded to the website inventory and you have to put in each stupid sized thing and you... write out the whole thing. it's It's very complicated. There's no... For some reason with the website, we use copy and paste.

Coy Baker: into variants. in a a product listing doesn't work. And so we literally had to manually enter all those sizes, which was a Huge. waste of time. So we built a skill. I use mostly Claude. and built a skill within there. And then...

Coy Baker: I can drop an entire billet list and it automatically creates the listing ah Pulls in. the data it needs writes all of the variants in that way i don't have to you know put them in manually So that's just ah one example of many things you can Automating. I know.

Coy Baker: Matt has i have both. We've ah been building software. for our businesses to help with productivity, tracking, analytics. Uh,

Coy Baker: Job orders, work orders. I think Matt and I have talked about this. I don't know if it was just the two of us. We're on another podcast, but we.

Denis Tyrell: What?

Coy Baker: we've kind of discussed in length

Denis Tyrell: you

Coy Baker: Some of that.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah. So I actually used to call out the vibe code. I'll put it in air quotes, ERP system. um which basically it's just a big organizer um it'll take data from my orders and then I have all my inventory.

Grippy McGripperston: And it has access to all my inventory as well. So then I'll say, okay, well you sold. x amount of this product do you need to cast x amount of sheets of that product and um then it kind of...

Grippy McGripperston: has the ability to move things around in the list based on demand um and like i have a whole historical look back and say like Okay. um For Blade Show last year, we sold X amount of this.

Grippy McGripperston: So now we need to plan ahead two months and we can cast all of this to take the blade show so that we don't run out. And then. When I'm packing for Blade Show, it's going to spit me out a list that basically says, okay, here's what you need to take based on last year's performance.

Grippy McGripperston: Plus. X amount extra. um So it's really been a ah big use for me in that regard. But like Toy was saying, actually, I just got to.

Grippy McGripperston: a big PO from ah a retailer. i'm like man that's really Blows that I have to put all this in here manually and I'm like, you know what? I'm going to upload it in the cloud and see how it does. And it was like. Two minutes later, and it's like, perfect.

Grippy McGripperston: I'm like...

Coy Baker: Yep.

Grippy McGripperston: What the heck? It even converted over... their order into my SKU system. Which was... Just mind -boggling to me. um it It. sensed that they needed the same size as what I sell normally.

Grippy McGripperston: So then I calculated all that and calculated cut cost and all of that stuff into it, which is just mind boggling to me.

Coy Baker: And Matt, I assume that there wasn't a software out there.

Grippy McGripperston: Um,

Coy Baker: that would have met these needs for you.

Grippy McGripperston: there Probably is. I just can't. Afford it.

Denis Tyrell: That was good.

Grippy McGripperston: um you know and and then there's there's you know another thousand different features that i'd never use and i wouldn't understand and You know, I guess how AI has really helped me is I have a lot of ideas and I don't know how to get them on a computer.

Coy Baker: Or can't afford it.

Denis Tyrell: yeah

Coy Baker: There you go.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: so then i basically go to claude and be like okay this is my idea How do we get from point A? to point b without Completely breaking the bank. um And it's been really helpful for that. now On the flip side, I try and avoid it for graphics i try to avoid it for um you know uh website copy captions, all of that stuff.

Grippy McGripperston: Every once in a while, it's fun to play around with, like the video I dropped the other day. but um you know i try to stay away from it for the most part for for that kind of thing

Coy Baker: media side of things. Yeah. um Well, that was kind of the same.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Coy Baker: you know for us I had... needs that need to be met software -wise. that i needed some sort of system for And... spend a lot of time looking for something that would do what I needed it to do.

Coy Baker: Um, But... As Matt, you said, they're either. a exorbitantly expensive with way more features than I could ever need. or they missed the critical things that I did need.

Coy Baker: And so. it was a well let's just see what i can build now that we have the tools disposable. to to do something like that, which we haven't ever had in the past. I'm not a programmer.

Coy Baker: So.

Grippy McGripperston: I think I'm probably in this whole entire program like less than $250. And AI credits, too.

Coy Baker: Mm -hmm.

Grippy McGripperston: And it's something where I use probably 10 cents a day. when it's. checking inventory and that stuff it's using up some credits but it's like hardly anything. And most of the time it can use the lowest.

Coy Baker: Sure.

Grippy McGripperston: X. expense or whatever lowest model so it's it's less expensive that way

Coy Baker: Yeah, I know. the The original piece of software I bought, I actually didn't incorporate the AI into it. It is standalone. um But I've got a piece that I actually just finished up last week.

Coy Baker: ah Because I wanted a clean and concise way to see every... aspect of the business. operationally like a dashboard

Grippy McGripperston: Mm -hmm.

Coy Baker: Um, And I actually had Claude do it. It's a 3D... Um... it's a little animation a 3d life animation of A big commercial building sitting.

Coy Baker: In the Blue Ridge Mountains, like it's a, you can actually. see the ups and usps trucks coming by for deliveries Like... it's all a it's a virtual

Grippy McGripperston: that's super cool

Coy Baker: i mean you can't go into the buildings obviously it's just a Visual. But any of those elements you click on you click on the big promotional uh sign out front the big you know highway signs And that's my all my. ah meta ads and podcasting data revenue or Stuff like that. although the marketing stuff.

Coy Baker: I can click on the bank building and that's all. you know p l's for the week or the month compared to last quarter whatever financial data i need i can click anywhere in this and i have all of the company's data in one dashboard

Denis Tyrell: h

Coy Baker: That I can... gather anything I need in an instant data wise. and that's just if i need a answer to a question it's i don't have to call the accountant anymore or track down whalen The data is all in fed into a dashboard.

Coy Baker: that i can see at a glance from anywhere in the world. Very handy.

Grippy McGripperston: That's super cool.

Denis Tyrell: wow

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah, that's another feature that I'm... Working on slowly. I had a... Much more. in -depth one made and it got to be too much, so I started over. Um, and made it more production focused but then as i go through it and i identify things that i'd like to add into it Then I start adding in features.

Grippy McGripperston: Um, but like a bill of materials is one thing that I want to add. So it's like, I use X amount of resin, X amount of rubber, X amount of dye.

Coy Baker: Mm hmm.

Grippy McGripperston: It has all my costs in there. And then it also will just show up. I have a. a couple iPads around the shop where it shows up with a ah kiosk dashboard. and so in the casting room it says okay i cast this and then The ideal is that you need this much part A resin, this much part B resin, and this much of this die, this much of that die, this much rubber. Mix it. And then when I hit done with casting.

Grippy McGripperston: Then it's done. And then a new feature I actually just added is... Kind of going into something we talked about the last time we talked about this is... you know batch tracking for that iso certification um so now when i demold something that

Coy Baker: Mm -hmm.

Grippy McGripperston: I can print out a label, I stick the label right on the product, and then I have a QR code on there for internal tracking purposes. and Um, i have a lot more to play yeah i have a lot more to to do with all of that before we even think about iso but we're a long ways away from that anyway but

Coy Baker: Yeah, I think I saw that in your video

Grippy McGripperston: Just kind of getting all those building blocks into place so that when the time's right, then it's not such a big jump.

Coy Baker: sure

Coy Baker: Yep.

Coy Baker: Sure. and having a kiosk at those stations with the Exact. you know, build recipe. You need the exact build set.

Grippy McGripperston: like

Coy Baker: is great if you brought in you know future help down the road who was in training that makes it super simple and easy he's not digging around for that sheet where you wrote it down on a back of a sticky note somewhere

Grippy McGripperston: Exactly.

Coy Baker: you know it's

Denis Tyrell: Yep.

Coy Baker: Easily accessible.

Grippy McGripperston: My... The thing that's always in the back of my head is like, okay, what if I die? I don't want this to die with me. um So it's something where it's like, oh, I could have somebody come and they can literally just work off the iPad as long as they know how to mix resin.

Grippy McGripperston: um then. They know how to do it all from there.

Coy Baker: Yep. For sure. I'm trying to think of other ways. that we utilize. yeah It's mostly data rate related for us. I mean... tracking stuff.

Grippy McGripperston: There's a lot of efficiencies to be... Um, captured with it too. I have a handful of programs that I've coded for the day job that. basically help penned work for me Um,

Coy Baker: who

Grippy McGripperston: So, yeah, it goes through a lot of all my lists for the day job and kind of compiles it all for my week. So then Monday I start and it's just right there for me. Super nice.

Coy Baker: Yes. Yes. Task management.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Coy Baker: reminders. Have you done much with automations, like automated things that kick off? Without. having to, you know... um prompt anything.

Grippy McGripperston: Um, our budget, I just started doing that. So it, uh, Every Sunday, it'll pull like all of our bank transaction transactions and stuff like that. and then um basically does like a an envelope budget so it automatically puts everything in the envelopes. and Yeah.

Coy Baker: Right.

Grippy McGripperston: I've done a few.

Coy Baker: I like that

Grippy McGripperston: in the business um mainly around like inventory tracking and whatnot i think i have it automatically check my inventory. like every. Eight hours, I think something to that effect um so it's automatically pulling in my inventory pulling in my orders to see what's going out of inventory

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: Um, So yeah, those have all been. really easy to integrate.

Coy Baker: I set up. one that was super handy for me uh a couple of days ago was a sweep so it would go into my the website every two twice a day, it sweeps the inventory and goes and identifies whichever ones have gone out of stock.

Grippy McGripperston: Hmm.

Coy Baker: And then it. removes it from the in stock category, removes the ribbon and pushes it down the list out of the way so that it's not.

Grippy McGripperston: Oh, wow.

Coy Baker: blocking anything else. you know, blocking other in stock items. And like I used to have to do that manually. And. Just... thought of it the other day and was like i should set up an automation to do that on its own

Grippy McGripperston: okay

Coy Baker: And it's just those little things.

Grippy McGripperston: Are you still on Wix?

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: Just on Wix, yeah. I would say mindset so that if anything's out of stock, it basically doesn't show.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: Um, That doesn't work so well these days. I guess I have that turned off for grip X, but when I was doing wood It would just take that right out of there. But I guess with as many variants as you have, I don't know that you could do that with variants.

Coy Baker: Well... And I think it does have that feature. if it was a you know just a product that's either in stock or out of stock instead of having a bunch of variants that are sometimes in stock and sometimes Like you got some that are and some that aren't.

Grippy McGripperston: right

Coy Baker: So it's kind of a partial mixed product

Grippy McGripperston: That's true.

Coy Baker: so I don't think it works with that.

Grippy McGripperston: That's super cool.

Coy Baker: but Just build a quick automation that does it.

Grippy McGripperston: I don't have to worry about it. Okay.

Coy Baker: Yeah, it does it twice a day. And i get ah it gives sends me a status update text to go, hey, we just did a sweep and this was taken off.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Coy Baker: are whatever products it needed to take off.

Grippy McGripperston: That's legit.

Coy Baker: Super cool. Super fun.

Grippy McGripperston: So Ted, how do you use AI in golf? Has it improved your golf game?

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: No. It has not. um Because I don't have metaglasses. But from what I understand, that if you have metaglasses on, yeah, it can. ah

Grippy McGripperston: Of course.

Denis Tyrell: It can help. But... I was I'm stuck here between. Really wanted to call you guys a bunch of nerds. and ah and And really impressed because.

Coy Baker: yeah

Denis Tyrell: You know, I... I don't know, for me anyways. But I'm a self -centered. person so i don't really think about all the work that really goes into what you guys do so i just see the the shiny stuff but um Yeah, yeah, you're or the or the grippy stuff um Yeah, that.

Denis Tyrell: I'm... I would have never imagined that that. that provided all that value for you guys and I guess we just. you know as ah As a customer and and for the listeners here, like we I guess we really expect to see...

Denis Tyrell: Cooler shit. Like quickly.

Grippy McGripperston: Well, it hasn't given me any ideas on cooler shit to make. so

Denis Tyrell: I was giving you time to go fuck some stuff up, right?

Grippy McGripperston: I ask it every week, but... Hey, yeah that's how I was able to grind a knife the other day.

Coy Baker: It gives us time to work.

Grippy McGripperston: It's because I freed up that much time.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. oh That's cool.

Coy Baker: Wow, then i'm doing I'm doing it wrong then. I'm not free enough that much time.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: no I'm just that slow right now.

Coy Baker: Sheesh.

Grippy McGripperston: It's that part of the... hammock of summer.

Denis Tyrell: As long as it's not a banana, dude.

Grippy McGripperston: Starting to get out of it, though. so Bye.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: It's some kind of stanky hammock. I don't know.

Denis Tyrell: Oh man.

Grippy McGripperston: No, I mean, adding AI functionality, honestly.

Denis Tyrell: No.

Grippy McGripperston: sounds This sounds really cliche. But it actually has been like hiring a superstar that I didn't really need to even train. You know, you tell it. one time what you want it to do and then it figures out how to do it and it's that's pretty bizarre It's an interesting time to be alive.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: For sure. I mean, it's Yeah, it's really changed the landscape of of small businesses. Because now... I mean, you've heard the stories of a guy starting a small business and he started it all by himself and he only got so far before he had to start.

Coy Baker: you know, bringing on help. But nowadays you can go a lot further. when it comes to

Grippy McGripperston: have

Coy Baker: building the systems of a system, right? and

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: whatnot. Instead of having to go out and hire somebody because you're literally out of time. It saves so much time. you know. on the back end.

Denis Tyrell: Yep.

Grippy McGripperston: And really the big goal for me with all of this is really to make sure I. have everything in stock pretty much all the time. um just because I do still have the day job. um I don't have a lot of time to be like, oh shit, I ran out of five colors and I have to hurry. and You know, I don't like people waiting. I like to try and ship within 48 hours at least 90 % of the time.

Grippy McGripperston: Um, So that's really been. A huge benefit. to To everything.

Coy Baker: I actually just had it go through our shipping system. completely do a revamp. um Because I have i have our... What is it? Shippo or ShipStation? i can't remember which one that we use but i have it plugged in

Grippy McGripperston: Hmm.

Coy Baker: to Claude as well. Just to... pull data when I need data on packages, but I had it do a ah revamp on the shipping. Because I felt like I was losing on shipping a little bit.

Coy Baker: and on certain types of carts. carts And so I had to do ah an analysis and it, you know, that includes going into Wix through all of our past orders over the last year.

Coy Baker: cross referencing what they paid in shipping versus what the ship company says we paid in shipping. And... doing data and and the data analysis on okay well this it slightly undercut.

Coy Baker: the budget and you paid more in shipping if this person added this product and this product together at the same time in the cart. So. and So it just it flagged all those specific things that needed tweaking to our shipping station as far as... what we're charging the customer that way we don't end up losing money on weird combinations of orders.

Coy Baker: you know combination of products in one order.

Grippy McGripperston: It's interesting.

Coy Baker: Anyway.

Grippy McGripperston: And it depends on where it's shipping to also.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Exactly. Exactly, locations.

Grippy McGripperston: All right. USPS just changed their shipping rates. I mean, it's probably been a handful of months now, but... I've actually found that certain packages if they're under a pound actually cost more than if it was over a pound.

Grippy McGripperston: <unk> So stupid.

Denis Tyrell: Uh oh.

Coy Baker: Really?

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Yep.

Grippy McGripperston: It's like... 15 cents, bruh. just like What the heck is this about? they started applying cubic rates to under a pound as well so That makes zero sense.

Coy Baker: ah

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Gotcha.

Grippy McGripperston: You know, yes.

Coy Baker: None of my stuff's under a pound, so I don't ever look at that.

Grippy McGripperston: yes Yeah.

Coy Baker: Those labels.

Grippy McGripperston: true

Coy Baker: but All my stuff's heavy.

Grippy McGripperston: Fair.

Coy Baker: No. Or hazmat.

Grippy McGripperston: oh

Denis Tyrell: yeah

Coy Baker: so That's always fun.

Denis Tyrell: I have a... ah a very strong desire now that it's getting uh cooler here. to Um, I would say bust out the forge, but. I... I would probably use my induction forge, but. um If you guys...

Denis Tyrell: are having the same uh itch that i am and want to get out there and forge something i'd say you go grab your two bastards fat peen And join team. Pin. Fien. And.

Denis Tyrell: Get out there and go whack some hot steel. ah Go check out Frank and Nita over at Two Bastards Smithian Supply and get yourself a fat bean. They come in all kinds of different varieties of fat. is one.

Denis Tyrell: major component, but they're straight, curved, ah crossed, double -ended. Whatever you need, they got it. so Um, Yeah, if you're in the market for an awesome hammer, go check out Two Bastards. because Ain't it grand?

Denis Tyrell: to have a fat peen in your hand. Right?

Grippy McGripperston: now

Coy Baker: i was I was quietly hoping that you were going to...

Denis Tyrell: Right, Matt?

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah. I'm.

Coy Baker: tee me up for that and I was going to be able to.

Grippy McGripperston: Peace out.

Coy Baker: you know, do that line or...

Denis Tyrell: Hey, Koi.

Coy Baker: What?

Denis Tyrell: Why is it? laughter

Coy Baker: And...

Denis Tyrell: and

Coy Baker: See, no, I can't do it now.

Denis Tyrell: No, you can't. you know There's sometimes where... ah Yeah. You want to tee it up and then yeah some people. Yeah, they just don't do it.

Grippy McGripperston: hi

Denis Tyrell: bit

Grippy McGripperston: how's How's it feel to have a fat peen?

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: and your hand.

Grippy McGripperston: Is it grand?

Denis Tyrell: Is it Grant?

Coy Baker: Yeah. it It is grand.

Denis Tyrell: yeah

Coy Baker: It's good.

Denis Tyrell: That's awesome.

Grippy McGripperston: They need to have teams. Pian Fiend t -shirt. It's made for Blade Show.

Coy Baker: Yes. Yes.

Denis Tyrell: i Yeah. This stuff doesn't write itself, but you know. those are Those are non -AI functions.

Coy Baker: Dirk.

Denis Tyrell: that yeah Dangerous place, though, coming there.

Grippy McGripperston: no The dark corners of Darren's mind.

Coy Baker: You need to hire, you you need to be hired by Dennis. Dennis needs you in the marketing department.

Denis Tyrell: That's right.

Coy Baker: Because you're a marketing man.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Yeah, buddy. He always shakes his head in disgust, though. It's kind of odd. It's like you know your grandfather looking at you kind of weird. like Yeah, you know, yeah.

Denis Tyrell: I'm in Franken -peens.

Coy Baker: That's all right.

Denis Tyrell: Freaking beans.

Grippy McGripperston: Does he ever tell you he's disappointed in you, Jared?

Denis Tyrell: Um, You know what? He has never said he's disappointed in me.

Grippy McGripperston: oh Damn, I was going to say, how does that make you feel?

Denis Tyrell: He's a very kind caring Compassionate grandfather.

Coy Baker: Maybe. Disappointed by... him, but not not in.

Denis Tyrell: Yes.

Coy Baker: So. Suck.

Grippy McGripperston: stay

Coy Baker: Clarification.

Denis Tyrell: That's right. But I'm not after his inheritance, so, yeah. Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: Well, you know.

Denis Tyrell: that

Grippy McGripperston: i'm still Still hanging in there for that.

Denis Tyrell: That's right. if

Coy Baker: do

Denis Tyrell: Oh man. So what have you guys been getting into um outside of this thing? i I want to give a... ah Huge. Shout out to my boy Koi for all of the amazing fishing content Um,

Denis Tyrell: I just wanted to tell you, I don't know if it's a lot or not, but every time I catch it, man, it absolutely warms my heart. to see you out there Getting away.

Denis Tyrell: Getting outside of the shop and and you know outside of this Read them. for For me anyways, you know, my business is. You know, it.

Denis Tyrell: It wears on me. Right. The day job, it just, it totally gets you. So, I mean, we're makers, we have an outlet, um but even that, right. um we all have other hobbies you guys are obviously well aware of my other um addictions, but um but you know, when I, when I get to see people out there doing that stuff. So, um I just want to give the hands a shout out.

Denis Tyrell: and Tell you, I encourage it.

Coy Baker: Well, thanks man.

Denis Tyrell: and keep Keep going out there and sharing. um because i think it's cool that we get to see you doing other stuff then

Coy Baker: I appreciate that. Yeah. And I think I've. for everybody listening. He's that he's only he's seen the two posts that I put out like the last four months.

Denis Tyrell: I'm billion of them. A billion of them.

Coy Baker: That's... Two. Maybe a... Two posts and a story. Uh. But yeah, no, it's a. I used to do a ton of fishing as a kid. And I haven't done it in years. And I live in.

Coy Baker: One of the best. trout water area in East Coast. And so. Started getting back into it a little bit on my own and then quickly realized you know what I want to do this with my kids and so i Outfitted.

Denis Tyrell: Awesome.

Coy Baker: My two eldest. um with fishing gear. And I take them out with me too, because... you know, self -employed day job. It's. It's almost all -consuming sometimes a lot of time feels all -consuming and so

Denis Tyrell: Hmm?

Coy Baker: you know, making sure I have dedicated time when my kids are Still. young and at home. you know and to spend time with them is has been a priority focus of mine this year. And. Fishing is a great way to do that.

Denis Tyrell: Absolutely. Absolutely.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: My son and I did that for...

Coy Baker: and

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. but i think back you know i think i was may or you may not but my son just turned 18 and and in July. and he's my youngest.

Denis Tyrell: And man, I can't tell you.

Coy Baker: Mm hmm.

Denis Tyrell: Like. How? um how hard that hit me. and how grateful I was, A, that I got clean. And, you know. took my head out of my ass and was able to be present. But for, for what you're describing right now as a father.

Denis Tyrell: To be able to create those memories have that time um And. I was sharing with with a bunch of people, though, when it comes to an end, even though it's not an end, right? But there's some finality to, you know, graduating, done, 18, finally an adult, you know, like.

Denis Tyrell: this whole thing um

Coy Baker: Sure.

Denis Tyrell: And. And I add this like lightweight. press, not depression, but a very sad. uh kind of vibe going because When I was. Thinking to myself like...

Denis Tyrell: I wish I would have done more. And even though I did a lot. and i was kind kind of like battling and it's it totally just a jared thing like in my head because what I couldn't possibly give.

Denis Tyrell: everything that i've think my kids deserve right and i'm not talking monetary i'm not so you know like you know all that stuff it's just all the time like you know endlessly i could have went back and you know when they tugged up my my pant leg i could have went back and did it so

Coy Baker: sure

Denis Tyrell: Man, I just think that's... that's Super awesome that your young father you recognizing that and you're trying to build that in um

Coy Baker: yeah yeah I mean, and then you know that was one aspect of it. um i You always can give more. for sure right i mean you could always look back and go oh i could have given more

Denis Tyrell: Sure. Hm?

Coy Baker: Well, life is a balance. I mean, you have to. You've got to go out there and earn the bucks to you know pay for their food and housing and everything.

Denis Tyrell: Absolutely.

Coy Baker: so It's a balance. and i just i wanted to get them into a pastime that i enjoyed doing with my dad when i was growing up too So there was an element of that.

Denis Tyrell: Yep.

Coy Baker: you know Um, But outside of the kids, yeah, I initially picked up fishing because I needed a little bit of an... a mental clarity outlet. Um,

Coy Baker: I... I don't know Matt, if you're the same way. uh when you're working on your business, but I. you know you're at the office you're doing stuff during the day but you come home at night and it's it's still going right it's still you're still working you're still on the computer or on your phone, or on a phone call, or something. You're always...

Coy Baker: Still grinding, right? and

Grippy McGripperston: oh yeah

Coy Baker: It... i needed a I needed to break a little bit of that cycle in in me. and so Uh... I'm always a bit of an early riser And so. I started in during the summer it was just. get up early and go fishing i'd be you know half mile into the river before the light was I'll throw the suns up.

Coy Baker: And... In a summer when the days are long, I could get... you know two hours of fishing in. and still be back at work at. when you know normal time when the crew's getting there.

Coy Baker: and so It was a great time for me to just... While i'm I'm focused on something else very specifically. because you can't really walk through. the river and Think about work when you're trying not to slip and break your neck.

Coy Baker: And so... Um, It was a great time to actually. decompress away from work, which I desperately needed. So.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Or you could be like ah our good friend Lawrence Lake. from Maritime Knife Supply. the supplier of all of the goodness in this world. If you need anything for knife making, uh make sure you go check out maritime knife supply he's got it all from abrasives uh, machine steel, um,

Denis Tyrell: Tooling. Everything that you need. He'll even carry. some, um,

Grippy McGripperston: gripa

Denis Tyrell: Some Baker Forge and... tool steel some grip x he's got he's got you covered um but he just actually Took off on ah on a pretty cool. ah vacation as well. So that was really cool to see I just can't express how I... It makes me happy when I see you guys getting out there and doing things. so But yeah, go check out Maritime Knife Supply for all your knife making needs and tell them the boys at Triple T sent you. um Which is why?

Coy Baker: Did Lawrence... Go to Bladestraw, Austria?

Denis Tyrell: No, he did not.

Coy Baker: Oh, okay.

Denis Tyrell: He went he went out and did something some some Something else. And.

Coy Baker: gotcha

Denis Tyrell: but it was pretty cool. He texted me or he messaged me. He's like, hey, I'm in San Francisco. I'm like, did I fucking miss something? And he was just laying over, though, on a flight.

Coy Baker: so

Grippy McGripperston: yeah

Coy Baker: Oh.

Denis Tyrell: so Hmm. I was like, okay, good.

Grippy McGripperston: a

Denis Tyrell: Right. Um, Yeah. And then this week, actually. fuck I know this is going to come to as as a surprise to all you guys, but ah I was in the shop.

Denis Tyrell: uh quite a bit this week and i actually got to put my uh ameribraid fastback 2x72 uh to use um If you're in the market for ah the best grinder.

Denis Tyrell: probably the best surface grinder uh rotary platen small wheel um bunch of varieties of tables and all kinds of good stuff. 10 % off that. And then you can use the discount code triple T that's TTT for a discount on machine packages as well.

Denis Tyrell: So. um I know. Koi. That's what you guys run, right?

Coy Baker: That's all we run.

Denis Tyrell: Mm -hmm

Coy Baker: Yep. We've used... Them. Since the beginning. I bought my first one before. I was actually making steel back when I used to make knives. So like 2017?

Coy Baker: 2018 i guess somewhere in there

Denis Tyrell: oh Shit. That was i around Dennis's 80th birthday, dude.

Coy Baker: As I bought...

Denis Tyrell: Fuck.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: yeah

Grippy McGripperston: right

Coy Baker: Yeah. Yes, that's when I bought the first one.

Denis Tyrell: But...

Coy Baker: mine's and my the one of the ones we have is my original one and it's an old frame style it's not their new frame design stuff.

Denis Tyrell: Awesome.

Coy Baker: The old one. But love those guys.

Denis Tyrell: Fantastic machine. Yep.

Coy Baker: Yep, for sure.

Denis Tyrell: Cool. So what do you guys...

Coy Baker: You need.

Denis Tyrell: Good?

Coy Baker: I was going to say, you need me to run read their... ah do their ad for them. on this show.

Denis Tyrell: Yes and no.

Coy Baker: Yep.

Coy Baker: Like I have it set up on the other you know, podcast.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I know.

Coy Baker: but

Denis Tyrell: That's what I'm saying. Yes and no.

Coy Baker: This!

Denis Tyrell: I want to be like.

Coy Baker: I'll do it different.

Denis Tyrell: Okay. All right.

Coy Baker: I'll throw an accent on it.

Grippy McGripperston: night

Denis Tyrell: We're here to put some respect on it.

Coy Baker: Oh! No, not that kind of accent

Grippy McGripperston: the Oakland accent.

Denis Tyrell: My man.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: That's Tyrell. Uh... All right. um Where was I going with that one? um

Coy Baker: Yeah, sorry, I totally derailed you there.

Denis Tyrell: no that's good uh since i'm trying to run through these these ads here uh why don't you give uh these six people um the low down skinny on this week's drop since you've got that all handled for the next 10 years.

Coy Baker: right i have that queued up right now hold on give me a second uh let's see here We're running.

Grippy McGripperston: Don't mind me. I'm just looking up what I'm doing and I don't know what I am doing. ah

Denis Tyrell: and And I am out of yours, Matt.

Grippy McGripperston: Ah, Denise

Coy Baker: ah The... The drop. for this last week was the dark my eclipse it's a pre -order though wasn't a drop it was a pre -order Uh,

Denis Tyrell: ice

Coy Baker: So all week we were running that. That is a. it's a combination of... our Dark Mai, our standard Dark Mai. And... Aurora Mai. Which were two steals. that You know, we figured, you know what, let's bridge the gap on these. There's actually Waylon. videographer's idea.

Coy Baker: He randomly... mentioned it to me and said, hey, I think this would be a good layout. And so we ran it and it's dark my, but it's got a. Kylaire, Coppermascus shim. with two nickel shims in between on it.

Coy Baker: Um, a really fun take on that and we're like you know what let's just run this as a pre -order um let's hold on to it ive but we've actually had that pattern stowed away for the last month or two And we're like, let's run it as a pre -order.

Coy Baker: That was running all of last week. um For everybody listening, our pre -orders will always be an entire week. Monday. through Saturday night.

Denis Tyrell: Okay.

Coy Baker: Actually, this week's last week's is actually still up. i just realized i forgot to take it down so you can go get onto that pre -order as well still well Oh, I know you can't because this doesn't come out now.

Denis Tyrell: No, you won't because we're we're actually in Tuesday now.

Coy Baker: We're in Tuesday. Yeah. Yeah. It's way gone. You guys are. missed the boat on that so um This weekend. this will be the first time you hear it too because It's not released yet.

Coy Baker: We're doing a bronze my copper shim. Wish we've... Not done a copper shim on a bronze wire in... multiple years so We're excited to do this one and it will be a standard drop.

Denis Tyrell: Hmm. Awesome.

Coy Baker: no pre -order so you have to wait to the weekend to get that

Denis Tyrell: Okay.

Coy Baker: And make sure you download that Baker Forge app. is

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I was gonna...

Coy Baker: 48 % of you are ordering steel on the app, so.

Denis Tyrell: Ooh.

Coy Baker: Let's keep going. Keep going.

Denis Tyrell: I think that's 52%. Dennis type. Old people. That refused to do it.

Coy Baker: it

Denis Tyrell: That's amazing.

Coy Baker: Yes.

Denis Tyrell: You're still the masses, though. That's awesome.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Um,

Coy Baker: Yep, so.

Denis Tyrell: Cool. Well, when when you're... Taking advantage of that. the The bronze might drop there. Make sure you go get yourself some gator piss of all the varieties. We have the OG blend, the max and the heavy. um And like Dennis says, you got to clean it, etch it, and protect it. So we clean it with Grime Reaper. We etch it with Gator Piss, and we protect it with Gator Skin, the nano ceramic.

Denis Tyrell: beat -off machine

Coy Baker: Beat off. Yeah, I was gonna... um I was gonna mention on that front the uh

Coy Baker: Well, of course I completely forgot it what it was I was gonna add something to that.

Grippy McGripperston: and we go fetch them.

Coy Baker: effect. but uh Oh, the pre -order. Yeah, we're still working on trying to get the pre -order to work on the app, though.

Denis Tyrell: Ooh.

Coy Baker: There's a bug right there we're dealing with right now where the pre -order system, as we were talking about earlier, Max. it That whole variant get around works. on the desktop but doesn't seem to translate well to the app for some reason So.

Coy Baker: Still working that bug out.

Grippy McGripperston: It's interesting.

Denis Tyrell: out. However you get it. Uh, Make sure you use the discount code TripleT10 and get yourself 10 % off. and uh Let Koi know. that. At least some of you guys hear me.

Denis Tyrell: he

Coy Baker: here well If I look at my dash my company dashboard here and I click on the podcast. bubble here. You guys are doing really well so far.

Denis Tyrell: Oh my God.

Coy Baker: for the year.

Denis Tyrell: this is great news this is great news i don't know yeah yeah some people have regular dreams i just wanted to be on a bigger forging tool AI.

Coy Baker: so

Coy Baker: You have.

Grippy McGripperston: that

Denis Tyrell: dashboard. Podcast bubble.

Coy Baker: Yeah, well, and I do have, I have a comparison as well where it's, I mean, it checks all the podcasts, but it's.

Denis Tyrell: Check.

Coy Baker: Also looking at crossover. which customers. are using codes from multiple sources.

Denis Tyrell: Mmm.

Coy Baker: Uh, Because we have a decent amount of that. But I actually specifically look at that. and to see who of the crossovers of everybody who's using the crossovers Which podcast is being more used more?

Coy Baker: in the crossover clients. And so. in my head i mean you guys don't know anything about it obviously But in my head, I'm thinking, I'm just watching you. You and the other shows.

Coy Baker: duel it out every day as those numbers shift.

Denis Tyrell: That's cool.

Coy Baker: Man. Yeah. That's fun. Yeah. Anyway. I'll send you a ah screenshot of that.

Grippy McGripperston: That's the next. Is that the next AI animation?

Denis Tyrell: Oh, that'd be good.

Grippy McGripperston: To it. podcast going head to head so the one that dies you know had less uses. Be good one for Monday morning.

Coy Baker: I mean... Yeah. From what they want.

Grippy McGripperston: You walk in, fire up the computer, you're doing, you know, podcasts.

Coy Baker: Don't...

Grippy McGripperston: One kills the other.

Coy Baker: Oh, my goodness.

Denis Tyrell: That's it. fuckers right now that's how we get over the monday blues here gentlemen we go to a death match of the podcast discount wars

Grippy McGripperston: Let me know.

Coy Baker: a

Denis Tyrell: Oh.

Coy Baker: That's funny. That's funny.

Denis Tyrell: That's pretty good

Coy Baker: But yeah. Um... Yeah. What do you got coming up this week, Matt? Product wise, what's new and hot?

Grippy McGripperston: a Nothing too new, but for Halloween we are running a special... on all of our scully patterns so every single color of scully there's a couple in the color lab as well which is our kind of custom.

Grippy McGripperston: shop stuff that we don't offer every day. So there's a handful of different colors of scullies. Color Lab that are going to be discounted as well. I don't remember what the discount is going to be. So don't ask me. But get subscribed to the newsletter. They do actually go out on Tuesdays. so

Grippy McGripperston: um Usually sometime around. between like 12 and three give or take a few hours um so If you're listening to this on Tuesday morning, go get subscribed, and then you're actually going to have all the information that I don't remember.

Denis Tyrell: Very cool. And then you can double up that discount with the triple T 10 and get yourself a banger.

Grippy McGripperston: That's it.

Denis Tyrell: of a Scully deal.

Grippy McGripperston: Yes.

Coy Baker: Yeah, we were discussing that last week actually with... Waylon and those guys about. stacking discounts when it comes to the Black Friday deals here in a couple weeks.

Coy Baker: And, you know, there's there's arguments. you know pro and against letting you guys double up your customer's savings on our account.

Coy Baker: So. We haven't decided yet.

Grippy McGripperston: There's one way that I look at it. Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: They're your customers. um By the way.

Grippy McGripperston: Hello.

Grippy McGripperston: if they have to listen If they have to listen to Jared talk.

Coy Baker: I know.

Grippy McGripperston: You gotta give them something. That's the way I like it.

Denis Tyrell: That's right.

Grippy McGripperston: No.

Denis Tyrell: i I don't disagree there. There's got to be a payoff for somebody and it should be a double discount. The discount double discount check.

Coy Baker: good

Denis Tyrell: Let's go.

Grippy McGripperston: So yeah, anyway. Go to getgriptech .com because I forgot to say that part too. Um... and yeah sign up for the newsletter

Grippy McGripperston: Tiffany Blue went. Crazy. Um, it's probably the second best release i've had but that tanagawa river color shift was That one will be coming back in the next couple months. so

Denis Tyrell: Nice.

Grippy McGripperston: Not to stay, just to tease.

Denis Tyrell: oh

Grippy McGripperston: It's just one of those things where it's very expensive. I don't want it sitting on the shelf. So. If I can get a drop and sell it out.

Denis Tyrell: Gotcha.

Grippy McGripperston: Kind of trying to take it.

Denis Tyrell: Hmm.

Grippy McGripperston: Paid from Koi's book. Make cool shit.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: Sell it out. Then make cool shit again and sell it out again.

Denis Tyrell: make people want it again and then yeah don't give it to them for a while and

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah. ah

Coy Baker: Hey. That's the reason the drop model is successful. across multiple industries.

Denis Tyrell: There you go.

Grippy McGripperston: That is true.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: I don't know that that worked for me, though.

Coy Baker: I was looking.

Grippy McGripperston: Oh, well. and It could work in certain ways, but... not across the product board. I feel like

Coy Baker: Well, you know. I've been wanting to keep I wish I could just... have an inventory of all the steels in stock. but It's...

Grippy McGripperston: right

Coy Baker: Takes... too long. to do that we've tried and multiple times in the past to to do that and you have more skews than I do so I can't even imagine

Denis Tyrell: Hmm.

Grippy McGripperston: yeah Oh yeah.

Coy Baker: Yeah, of course I guess

Grippy McGripperston: What did we talk about the other day? Am I up to like 800 something?

Denis Tyrell: Oh Lord.

Coy Baker: Yeah, that's a lot of skis.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: That's a lot of skulls.

Grippy McGripperston: That's the last case.

Coy Baker: That's the last piece.

Grippy McGripperston: No, that's not just skulls. That's just skews.

Denis Tyrell: Oh.

Grippy McGripperston: That's all.

Denis Tyrell: Sorry.

Grippy McGripperston: them

Coy Baker: Yeah. ah we're We're definitely not that high.

Denis Tyrell: Hmm.

Coy Baker: I mean, we would be if you counted variant. sizing but as far as just products

Grippy McGripperston: yeah

Coy Baker: then now.

Denis Tyrell: yeah I'm not that high anymore. I used to be, but... it doesn't work that way no more

Grippy McGripperston: ah the better

Denis Tyrell: Now I get lightheaded and I call it a freebie. Just relish.

Coy Baker: to stand up too fast from tiny your shoes.

Denis Tyrell: I just stand up and I go, whoa. And people are like, you all right? I'm fucking good. Good.

Coy Baker: oh You know, they say there's...

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: They don't last as long when you get old. but So, yeah.

Denis Tyrell: That's true. Yeah.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: The whole getting old thing is... Fucking bitch.

Coy Baker: but

Denis Tyrell: But ah yeah, since I'm cranking things back up in the in the shop there, too, I'll need to be using my ah one of my. ah even heat ovens If you're in the market for a heat treating oven, go check out Even Heat Kilns. They're a family owned and operated.

Denis Tyrell: company since 1948 building the highest quality knife heat treat ovens around. um I have two. Dennis has two.

Denis Tyrell: And you should have too.

Coy Baker: I've... I've owned two. but I only currently own one. but I use it.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Every day.

Denis Tyrell: Every day.

Coy Baker: So.

Coy Baker: You got them all. Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I'm out

Coy Baker: you started you started with what you've been doing in the shop. multiple times, but Both times it was an ad read. So what ah have you actually done in the shop?

Denis Tyrell: So last week we had an historic event in the Echo Blade shop.

Coy Baker: this week.

Grippy McGripperston: practice advisory.

Denis Tyrell: ah

Grippy McGripperston: Oh man.

Denis Tyrell: I... Sold. Two knives.

Grippy McGripperston: match

Denis Tyrell: In one day.

Coy Baker: Wow.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: Are these knives that are already done or are these knives that you're banking on for like 2032?

Denis Tyrell: No, these are out the door with their brand new ah owners. um And. ah Yeah. What? an awesome feeling guys i could tell you this because you know when you're uh i got all the excuses all the things and literally legitimate i'm not legitimate or not but um I think the major one was kind of. spending most of last year with with my son, which we we golfed a lot too. So there's that, but um you know, so.

Denis Tyrell: I'm having... finding some more time. And. ah And. really trying to focus on getting back there but i think more than anything i'm just trying to get that that motivation that drive to kind of channel the like the the release that i was talking about because that's how this all started for me anyways was this was an escape from thinking about fire sprinklers and you know it turned into

Coy Baker: Sure.

Denis Tyrell: all of this crazy shit that it is now. And. um But yeah, it was it was really cool. um So I knocked one out. ah And I did have one that was already. um Completed but I was able to get him both out the door so We are not negative this year, boys.

Coy Baker: Where did you?

Grippy McGripperston: Don't talk about that.

Coy Baker: Where did you sell them through? Was this like Instagram buyers or?

Denis Tyrell: I am. so I am still... ah No, because I have to inventory to offer things out. So I am still working through an incredibly long back order of ah of people. um Which are some Instagram, but...

Coy Baker: Oh, so these were off your... Off your wait list, then.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, these are just yeah off my wait list.

Coy Baker: Gotcha. Gotcha.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Gotcha. Cool.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: So they're saints, is what you're saying.

Denis Tyrell: See you. You are. Absolutely. yeah but i'm still I still have. Word of mouth people locally here. I haven't you know, I think every knife maker probably ah you know.

Denis Tyrell: runs through All of the the immediate people. um you know that are willing to support you and then at some point you got to grow up and get out and start using ai to market yourself and you know create s sco skew uh trackers and pnls yeah all that crap but uh

Coy Baker: Great skews.

Grippy McGripperston: I still have family and friends that are like, hey, can you make me a knife? I'm like, I haven't made a knife in five years. Oh. No.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, same. No.

Coy Baker: That's a hard no.

Grippy McGripperston: Like, I'd love to, but that's not enough fun.

Denis Tyrell: ah

Grippy McGripperston: Not enough time in the day.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, well, you guys don't have one of your bestest buddies be one of the most. awesomest makers in the you know in the community running around just you know, I'm doing it for a living. and being a complete dick about having all the time in the world to...

Coy Baker: Amen.

Coy Baker: I call Dennis a pretty good buddy.

Grippy McGripperston: He's retired.

Coy Baker: I mean...

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: I call him dad.

Coy Baker: He's my buddy, too.

Denis Tyrell: Is this? the The accessibility is a little... uh different that's all Bye.

Coy Baker: Yeah, that's true. He doesn't always answer my phone calls

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: out

Denis Tyrell: Well, he probably can't hear it.

Coy Baker: what that hearing aids too too low.

Denis Tyrell: The hearing and aid battery went out, yeah. He's like, oh, this noise maker's going off again. Cam, turn the oven off.

Coy Baker: but

Grippy McGripperston: a

Denis Tyrell: ah

Coy Baker: Oh my gosh.

Denis Tyrell: hey

Coy Baker: Can we like clip that bit right there? That needs to be a new.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: laughter

Denis Tyrell: so Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: I don't hear it.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Yeah. Oh, so Dennis likes to completely ignore me when I'm not on the show, but I do want to. give a ah talk about it. I i haven't heard ah much from the show. I haven't seen anything. um and don the the social Scrolling isn't at the top of my list right now but um i was super excited for him to get out there i guess the show has ended officially now um i did see a couple posts where um He he sold that dagger.

Coy Baker: m

Denis Tyrell: um And then we did see, I don't know if you guys got to see it, but. Kim posted a freaking fantastic reel.

Coy Baker: Oh my. Gosh, I died.

Denis Tyrell: of ah her kind of going through the ah hotel room. And she's like, I saw a reel about this one time. And then she pans over and Dennis is on the shitter.

Coy Baker: you It's...

Denis Tyrell: Knees all tucked up with his squatty potty.

Grippy McGripperston: That's amazing.

Coy Baker: Hey. Yeah, he's all like

Denis Tyrell: I was like, Dennis, why you where do you travel with a squatty potty, dude?

Coy Baker: yeah

Grippy McGripperston: link

Denis Tyrell: Come on, man. Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: oh that's amazing

Coy Baker: i've been I've never been more thankful for t -shirts. I'll just say that.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. That's great.

Coy Baker: ye

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. That's cool.

Grippy McGripperston: Oh man.

Coy Baker: I wrote like three different comments to that reel or to that.

Denis Tyrell: but uh

Coy Baker: thing on or ah Facebook. And I kept deleting them because I couldn't figure out what was going to be funniest to say. so

Denis Tyrell: that's a bummer Yeah, I leave him alone. I don't. I try not to do it because.

Grippy McGripperston: You do, huh?

Denis Tyrell: It's pretty relentless over here, you know? Yeah. Right. um

Coy Baker: Yeah, I mean, I didn't see a whole lot about the show either. because Well... I couldn't sometimes distinguish, though, because there was a California show going on right now, too, wasn't there? this weekend.

Grippy McGripperston: yeah

Denis Tyrell: Not aware of it.

Grippy McGripperston: I think it was like CC Chaos or something like that.

Coy Baker: yeah Um,

Grippy McGripperston: like

Coy Baker: And there was a bunch of people that I follow.

Denis Tyrell: Amen.

Coy Baker: or that show.

Denis Tyrell: Hmm.

Coy Baker: And so I started getting confused as to which show I was looking at in these people's posts and who was where.

Denis Tyrell: Mmm.

Coy Baker: Um. But I had never heard of that California show. before. so But apparently, everybody else knew about it.

Denis Tyrell: I haven't either.

Coy Baker: And was going. but

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Is it in Southern California?

Grippy McGripperston: right Woodland Hills, wherever that's at. Wow.

Denis Tyrell: i don't know

Coy Baker: That sounds like North Cali.

Denis Tyrell: yeah it does

Denis Tyrell: I had to tell... ah Lawrence.

Grippy McGripperston: by LA.

Denis Tyrell: to tell Lawrence the other day. Please don't ever call this San Fran ever again, buddy.

Coy Baker: Why is that not... but no politically correct over there.

Denis Tyrell: I don't know about politically correct, but it's... Definitely something that we don't say here. So. It just makes my skin crawl. So there you guys go.

Coy Baker: What do you...

Denis Tyrell: You want to talk about it?

Coy Baker: So what do you call it then if you don't call it?

Denis Tyrell: We call it the city.

Coy Baker: The city. Why why is LA not the city?

Denis Tyrell: Mm. Because... It's... lame.

Coy Baker: Well, okay. I guess if you're talking... yeah contextually in your sch sphere you're you're way closer to the city being san francisco i guess

Denis Tyrell: Yes. yes um I don't know.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: That's the... ah Yeah, I don't know. It's just always been referred to. That's on the Golden State Warriors have it called the city. Then when they were in Oakland, it was called the town. um Yeah.

Coy Baker: Hmm.

Denis Tyrell: Frisco and San Fran are... out of towner. sayings so

Coy Baker: All right. well

Denis Tyrell: You said Cali, and that... Maybe. think of that I don't ever say that, but anyways. Um...

Coy Baker: I said, oh, no yeah, I did. Northern Cali.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Yeah, yeah, I did.

Denis Tyrell: mm -hmm

Coy Baker: You're right. Sorry.

Denis Tyrell: Nor Calisoka. That's all good.

Coy Baker: NorCal.

Coy Baker: Northern California.

Denis Tyrell: California.

Coy Baker: California.

Denis Tyrell: All right. ah Who do you guys got for a... um Make a spotlight

Coy Baker: Make your spotlight.

Grippy McGripperston: I have mine up, so...

Coy Baker: uh i'

Grippy McGripperston: yeah So I've got my buddy Jason at JP underscore bleed smithing on Instagram.

Denis Tyrell: Awesome.

Grippy McGripperston: I actually have a handful of his knives. and Typically one of them finds its way into my pocket. He's got 9931 followers and I just sent him an absolute.

Denis Tyrell: Very cool.

Grippy McGripperston: I could be totally wrong on that. Don't sue me.

Denis Tyrell: ah oh I'm a scumbag because I thought I was following him, but I'm not.

Coy Baker: Touche, touche.

Denis Tyrell: um

Grippy McGripperston: So I could do two. if you want me to.

Denis Tyrell: uh,

Grippy McGripperston: Somebody that I don't think knows I exist, but.

Denis Tyrell: Sure.

Grippy McGripperston: i don't know how to say his last name so that's troublesome But... Jesse Jarosz, I'll say. I don't know. um He is. Jarose Knives on Instagram.

Grippy McGripperston: He makes. Fantastic folders. But I had just seen one pop up on my feed while I was looking up the California custom knife show. And it's one that's got like. I don't know probably 10 or 12 different abalone inlays.

Grippy McGripperston: And it is. Absolutely gorgeous. So it's J -A -R -O -S -Z knives. i don't know if you guys know of him?

Coy Baker: Doesn't ring a bell.

Grippy McGripperston: But I've seen a handful of his.

Denis Tyrell: oh

Coy Baker: Hmm.

Grippy McGripperston: So there you go.

Coy Baker: Perfect. All right. Well, I'm going to break your rules a little bit then because.

Grippy McGripperston: I see how it is.

Coy Baker: Here's a guy that I like I like shouting this guy out or like showing people his page whenever people ask about. how our material is used. Outside of... the knife industry.

Denis Tyrell: Mmm.

Grippy McGripperston: Alright.

Coy Baker: His page is... Kane Forge. It's all one word. Kane, C -A -I -N. Forge. And his name is Aaron. um He's been buying steel from us for...

Grippy McGripperston: wow Is there a second?

Coy Baker: And. Yeah, so... Until he started buying stuff from us and we started chatting, I had no idea this was a... thing. Is that... People...

Coy Baker: People were made. custom tattoo guns like hand -built hand -carved through components and assembled them. uh They don't actually do tattooing. They just make...

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Damn. Sorry.

Coy Baker: Um... who So here's a question, though. Who did you... ah try to have on the show. before you asked us. A couple of... nincompoops to come on.

Denis Tyrell: I had... Um... Ideas. And I settled on not. reaching out to anybody else. So.

Denis Tyrell: um I had a very very strong my My take, anyways, was that I could do bring in somebody, ah do an interview. you know But I do think that this is a very awesome way for.

Denis Tyrell: Dennis and I, even though he's not here to show our appreciation and thanks for your continued support over the years. um We are extremely grateful. We love what you guys do. And even though.

Denis Tyrell: you are Um, Pretty already well known enough. I think it's an awesome opportunity for people to hear you guys and I intended to not really talk about. um the the products and stuff too much or business.

Denis Tyrell: Cause I think it's really cool. And y 'all want to talk about fishing, but Matt does nothing. So he's probably the.

Grippy McGripperston: Have a great job.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, he's probably the most uninteresting person definitely in this group. but ah ah

Grippy McGripperston: Only because Dennis isn't here. But you know.

Denis Tyrell: ah Yeah. Man, I just want to tell you, if you can take a snapshot of of Matt and I's messaging.

Grippy McGripperston: oh down don't feel bad i like it when it goes full circle.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, it's awesome.

Grippy McGripperston: All right.

Denis Tyrell: um But yeah, that's kind of what I wanted to do. But ah that whole AI thing came on. um so but anyways uh yeah so that's really what honestly what i landed on uh was you know Trying to.

Denis Tyrell: Throw in some. of the some you know a a knife maker of some kind but i thought it's uh I like what we did last time. And again, I think it's pretty cool to. Dear.

Denis Tyrell: hang out with you guys but ultimately just to get you on here and let you talk and Let people know that you're actual people.

Coy Baker: Well, we could just leave the... We'll leave the boring knife maker interviews to Dennis when he's got to fill you in. so

Grippy McGripperston: ah you

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I mean... he Yeah, he he only does those so he can listen back to himself.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: So.

Coy Baker: but ah

Denis Tyrell: a

Coy Baker: okay

Denis Tyrell: smash the smash that like button i mean it's smash that like button

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Yes.

Grippy McGripperston: Switch the boring one with that.

Coy Baker: what What was it? Hey, Cam, turn off the oven.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah. I don't know.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. but That's a good one.

Grippy McGripperston: Please change that.

Denis Tyrell: Oh man.

Coy Baker: ah

Denis Tyrell: All right. Well, you guys got anything else? ah Anything to say before we head out of here? We're about an hour, a little over an hour. and

Denis Tyrell: No, this is this is your shameless plug time.

Grippy McGripperston: I'm just going to head end now.

Coy Baker: see

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: okay

Coy Baker: ah All right Matt, you go first. I got to think.

Coy Baker: ah

Denis Tyrell: are am

Grippy McGripperston: No, I just blocked them.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: There's plenty of them out there. Just block them. You have one chance

Denis Tyrell: and

Grippy McGripperston: Now. um that's obviously a joke for those that can't take one um I don't know. I am getting ready for SHOT Show. So that's a whole.

Denis Tyrell: o

Grippy McGripperston: other topic.

Coy Baker: mm -hmm

Grippy McGripperston: A terrifying topic, but it'll be alright. So... Goal for the next couple of years is really just trying to expand into other markets and I think the firearm market is probably next best thing to knives and we're gonna see how that goes and I am confident that we'll go. swimmingly well.

Grippy McGripperston: It'll be fun, but...

Denis Tyrell: That's exciting.

Grippy McGripperston: There's a lot of people to talk to, and that's nerve -wracking for me. so But yeah, I think it'll be cool.

Coy Baker: Yes.

Denis Tyrell: Hmm.

Grippy McGripperston: It'll be a learning experience if nothing else.

Coy Baker: Yeah, the gun. I really wish I was going to Shasha with you. So yeah, thanks for getting those tickets for me.

Grippy McGripperston: We made it.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: I'm not.

Coy Baker: Oh.

Denis Tyrell: What do you want to eat?

Grippy McGripperston: I'll make you work the booth the whole time.

Denis Tyrell: You don't want to be alone. I mean, come on. That's in Vegas, right?

Grippy McGripperston: John and I are going out to the club. You can work the booth. so

Coy Baker: Yeah, see? you know I wasn't going to work.

Denis Tyrell: Awesome.

Coy Baker: what I was looking for a free ride, bro. um

Denis Tyrell: yeah

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah, they're stingy. They only give you two. Two badges for a booth. Like that's a long

Coy Baker: wow

Grippy McGripperston: week to have just two people.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, that'll... Yeah, that makes that a ah Very exclusive.

Grippy McGripperston: Amen.

Coy Baker: Wow, yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: I can buy it. Bye. It's expensive.

Denis Tyrell: That booth babe spot is exclusive right there.

Coy Baker: That is expensive.

Grippy McGripperston: oh Yeah. Yeah.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: Chacho's pricey.

Coy Baker: one of these

Grippy McGripperston: People complain about Blade Show prices, and I'm like, let me show you my invoices for Stat Show. So hopefully it's worth it. that

Coy Baker: Looking forward to hearing how that goes. because you know, i've You know, you and I have talked. i've i've contemplated going to SHOT Show in the past.

Grippy McGripperston: Bye.

Coy Baker: um We're doing a lot more with gun stuff now, and so I feel a little bit more comfortable to go. cause Before that, it was like... You know, you almost don't have like a voucher. Right? you don't have something to go hey look yeah we've done this for these guys Right.

Grippy McGripperston: right

Coy Baker: You're kind of coming in cold. and I kind of wanted to be doing some stuff in the gun industry beforehand. And we're finally starting to do some of that now.

Grippy McGripperston: yeah

Coy Baker: Actually this year.

Denis Tyrell: Very.

Coy Baker: uh way more than I realized we were. going to.

Grippy McGripperston: It's good.

Coy Baker: Oh. Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah, I think the biggest thing for me is I'm just kind of making small parts that I can make easy and just put them on the table. just give people ideas because i don't have a uh uh,

Grippy McGripperston: What's that called? I don't know, repertoire of...

Denis Tyrell: I almost said brain

Grippy McGripperston: done parts I already made. Well, I don't have that either, so... aye That is... All consumed.

Denis Tyrell: Ahem. Hmm. Well, mine's pretty fried too.

Coy Baker: Well, yeah. are you able to Are you selling at the table, though?

Denis Tyrell: That's cool.

Coy Baker: Or are you just...

Grippy McGripperston: Can't solve.

Coy Baker: It can't sell. Yeah, I thought that was how it was.

Grippy McGripperston: Can't see anything there, yeah.

Coy Baker: It's advertised only.

Denis Tyrell: Oh, you are straight Mr.

Grippy McGripperston: Sometimes.

Denis Tyrell: Personality there, huh?

Grippy McGripperston: Just burning up money and hoping it pays off. So.

Coy Baker: yeah

Grippy McGripperston: It'll work out. If nothing else, I'll learn more about the market and more about how to market myself. and Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: It's in Vegas, right?

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Mm hmm.

Grippy McGripperston: So. all those fails i'll go market myself on the corner and

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: Try and recoup some money. I'll get at least 12 shots.

Denis Tyrell: Oh my god. Yeah. You could fail in all areas of life, dude. That's cool. no

Coy Baker: Why don't you just do it at the poker table? It's way less humiliating.

Grippy McGripperston: Oh, man too.

Denis Tyrell: Seriously. You wouldn't have a furry jacket though.

Grippy McGripperston: ah

Denis Tyrell: ah

Grippy McGripperston: okay

Denis Tyrell: And clear heels.

Coy Baker: Or learn to walk in high heels.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, you have clear heels, buddy.

Grippy McGripperston: I mean...

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: Anything's a possibility in Vegas.

Denis Tyrell: Uh, that's cool. That's exciting. yeah All right.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: One up that Corey, what are you doing? Fishing?

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: No.

Grippy McGripperston: Check it out for golf.

Coy Baker: Well, the brown trout.

Denis Tyrell: You're going to be a father? Yeah.

Coy Baker: The brown trout are spawning, so we're in pre -spawn or pre-spaawn right now. So. Yes, I'm fishing.

Denis Tyrell: Dude, I have horrible news.

Coy Baker: but

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I don't know if you heard last week though, but I'm I will not be going to Atlanta this year

Coy Baker: That is very much a bummer.

Denis Tyrell: ah Because I have secretly held on to our...

Coy Baker: Hmm.

Denis Tyrell: plan. um Which is not going to happen. In June, anyways. so Maybe some other time. Wink wink.

Coy Baker: Oh. our plan. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry. I thought you were talking.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Nevermind. You're confusing me.

Denis Tyrell: No.

Coy Baker: Yes.

Grippy McGripperston: I was lost.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Yeah, you should be.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: That was a very one

Coy Baker: ah

Denis Tyrell: telepathic conversation. For Koi.

Grippy McGripperston: The telepathy didn't even work.

Coy Baker: That I... That I mostly missed.

Denis Tyrell: You mostly missed.

Coy Baker: But I caught i'm caught up now.

Denis Tyrell: What I mean, yeah.

Coy Baker: I'm caught up now. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Denis Tyrell: I did just paint a picture of Matt on the corner in Clear Hills in a furry jacket. So, I mean, it's kind of hard to come back from that.

Coy Baker: That's yep.

Denis Tyrell: Ugh.

Coy Baker: I'm still over there, sorry Um,

Grippy McGripperston: You've never seen me without a shirt, have you, Jared?

Coy Baker: Yeah, that's it that

Denis Tyrell: What's that?

Grippy McGripperston: You have never seen me without a shirt, have you? I don't need it fur a fur jacket.

Denis Tyrell: Oh shit.

Denis Tyrell: Oh shit.

Denis Tyrell: I can't get it out of my mind now, though.

Grippy McGripperston: I have no Sam.

Coy Baker: Yes.

Grippy McGripperston: that was

Coy Baker: la

Denis Tyrell: but a

Coy Baker: All right, Matt, let's go.

Denis Tyrell: Oh, geez.

Grippy McGripperston: All right, I'll be quiet.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: it's the podcast

Denis Tyrell: No, please don't. it Fucking took an hour and 16 minutes for you to get fucking good.

Coy Baker: ah

Grippy McGripperston: okay

Denis Tyrell: uh All right.

Grippy McGripperston: Tony, I'm tired today.

Denis Tyrell: That's good.

Grippy McGripperston: it's been a busy week

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Well, I can't top the SHOT Show. but uh We're just ah we're plugging right along

Grippy McGripperston: Good. If you want.

Coy Baker: If I win. ah Yeah. if Yeah, that's a lot of standing around. I don't know.

Grippy McGripperston: yeah

Coy Baker: Um. Yeah, so we're just cruising to the end of the year. You know, we've got... We're finally bringing the stainless stuff back. We've been waiting on a ah long back order of one of our materials. For those of you who've been...

Coy Baker: you know We're patiently waiting The stainless is is finally coming back. Yeah, 154 was a little hard to get there for a little bit. so But we're back up and rolling on that front. And so... Looking forward to mixing that into our...

Coy Baker: upcoming drop schedule and pre -order schedule. so We have a brand new prototype. I wish this podcast was like. A week and a half. Later.

Coy Baker: because i can't quite get into it but we've got a whole new process for doing patterns in steel. that I'm very excited to... to talk about once I can. But we haven't even finished the first prototype, so I need to get it into a couple of weeks.

Coy Baker: before i can really start going into it but

Denis Tyrell: Okay, if you need a medium.

Grippy McGripperston: um very creative effort

Denis Tyrell: You know, if you need to touch... six people's lives you're more than welcome to come back next weekend all right

Coy Baker: yeah I need a couple. I need a multiple a couple of weeks.

Denis Tyrell: Okay, well, two weeks. There you go.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: Very curious about something that I've had rolling around in my head for a minute.

Denis Tyrell: erma

Grippy McGripperston: This week. Interesting. I'll have to see.

Coy Baker: Oh, you're... if you it's just Sorry, interested to see if it's the same thing.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah. Yeah.

Coy Baker: Gotcha. gotcha Very possibly. You and I think a lot alike.

Grippy McGripperston: Oh. hey

Coy Baker: so

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah. How did that show in Florida go?

Denis Tyrell: Silence.

Grippy McGripperston: the yeah

Coy Baker: Mmm.

Grippy McGripperston: Sorry, Jared. going to continue to talk about work because, you know.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, you can't help yourself.

Coy Baker: That's all we know.

Grippy McGripperston: You can hit the end button or we'll talk about work.

Coy Baker: Um,

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Yeah. Well, we'll talk about work after the end button's hit anyway.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I was going to say, but you're about to talk about it off the air.

Grippy McGripperston: Perfect.

Denis Tyrell: no

Grippy McGripperston: ah

Coy Baker: Well can I at least answer his question?

Grippy McGripperston: okay

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, no, i we're in no rush.

Coy Baker: Uh... The Orlando show was really good. That was the... TACC. So for the listeners, that's the Ancient City Continental. which is a group that originally started on Facebook.

Coy Baker: Um, I don't know. All the... back in history of the group. I got added to it a couple years ago. But it comprised it's comprised of some of the... biggest collectors in the knife world. Yeah.

Coy Baker: um And the... What these guys spend on knives is insane. and they decided so they all of course get together at blade shows every year whatnot and They had... And it started. to Not like the way certain things were done at Blade Show.

Coy Baker: and the way blade show was handling some things and so they went and created their own Knife show. and they called it the ancient sydney cognac Ancient City Continental or TAC. you know, TACC. for short.

Coy Baker: And so their first yeah year doing an actual show was this year. And they invited us to exhibit. Um, they kept it to almost exclusively all knife makers.

Coy Baker: there was two material suppliers there other than me. in the whole show so very very limited it is ah exclusively custom us made only No. overseas stuff.

Coy Baker: this has to be us made And, you know, I mean. It wasn't a... huge show it wasn't very big Uh, We came the closest to selling out our entire table though. than we ever have before.

Coy Baker: which was

Grippy McGripperston: That's awesome.

Denis Tyrell: That's great.

Coy Baker: Crazy. So that there was very quality traffic and everybody said the same thing.

Grippy McGripperston: yeah

Coy Baker: Knife makers selling out left and right. So for as big of a show as it was, it. did really well.

Grippy McGripperston: That's awesome.

Coy Baker: and we will Definitely go back. and do it again. Um, A great venue, too.

Denis Tyrell: Very cool.

Coy Baker: It's... but while it's a little bit pricey they didn't charge the vendors to vend

Grippy McGripperston: Oh wow.

Coy Baker: at all. And so as long as you booked your hotel in there. you know block of hotels in the resort. Then you could you could vent for free And so that's what we did. and compared it to like booking a hotel at the Waverly at about the same price.

Coy Baker: cost -wise. Wasn't that bad.

Grippy McGripperston: It looked like a good show.

Coy Baker: But everything was right there. Yeah. It was a great show. I'm going to talk to a lot of

Denis Tyrell: Cool.

Grippy McGripperston: Thanks.

Coy Baker: A lot of... guys who were there to spend a lot of money But when you walked up to them at the bar... you know, he was like, uh, Just a normal old guy in his...

Coy Baker: you know swim trunks sipping on a mojito and you just start talking with him and he starts pulling out all kinds of knives And then you come to find out.

Denis Tyrell: Mm.

Coy Baker: He's a plumber from like Akron, Ohio. And when I say plumber, he started his plumbing business a couple of years ago and it took off and now he just travels the world. And he... because he owns a plumbing company.

Grippy McGripperston: That's awesome.

Denis Tyrell: wow

Coy Baker: Yeah. And I was like... Cool. you know. Just walked up to and stood beside him ordering a drink and we just got to chatting Hmm. i've never I haven't really met any of those type of people at Blade Show.

Coy Baker: I'm sure there are every once in a while, you know, a couple of them.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Sure.

Coy Baker: but there was These guys were all over the place.

Grippy McGripperston: Hm.

Coy Baker: It was super cool.

Denis Tyrell: That's cool.

Coy Baker: It was a fun show.

Grippy McGripperston: That's super cool. Nice.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: We got to go down to Heretic Knives too and do a... a walkthrough of there. manufacturing space, which is always cool. to see you Their floors are white. and they're super super clean. I mean it's like a lab in there.

Grippy McGripperston: Wow.

Coy Baker: is crazy. It's crazy.

Denis Tyrell: Just like my shop.

Coy Baker: But they had a big open house. No, it's not. My shop. much I keep my shop tidy, but it ain't that clean.

Grippy McGripperston: so

Denis Tyrell: I said it's like my shop. And that is not the truth either.

Coy Baker: Oh.

Coy Baker: You're being facetious.

Grippy McGripperston: It's a lot easier to keep it clean when you don't finish anything

Denis Tyrell: Yes.

Denis Tyrell: Yes.

Coy Baker: Or start anything.

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: I got it. I got all kinds of shit started. boys

Coy Baker: it

Denis Tyrell: I'm professional.

Grippy McGripperston: oh man

Denis Tyrell: I actually, literally ah I sat down earlier this week and started. I think I was talking about it last week. uh, And. I...

Denis Tyrell: I. I held strong and did not. profile anything out. um It's drawn on steel. But now I'm going back to. It's the a handful of things that i have I was having some edging issues. That's what I was working on today.

Coy Baker: ah

Denis Tyrell: resanding and doing some stuff. so Um, I think it's just it's my... I tried to. Call it in on on my process and listen to some.

Denis Tyrell: rather advantageous. great project progressions that I don't think we're. it wasn't successful. So. um Here we go again. But.

Denis Tyrell: You know, it's not like I.

Coy Baker: Catch you guys. gotcha

Denis Tyrell: Live right next to a guy that. Has a pretty well -known And. proven process. I just refuse to listen to the bastard.

Grippy McGripperston: One of those days.

Coy Baker: He doesn't necessarily live next door, though, either.

Denis Tyrell: I said next to you. Yeah.

Coy Baker: He's like...

Denis Tyrell: We don't. them.

Coy Baker: You're a lot further away than I... realize. you know I realized once I came and visited you, that you guys were quite a bit further away because you've used that terminology before, of but like, he's just like. sort of like next door i figured it was a couple streets over

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, I think it's more in my mind. It's more of next door because I literally pass his house. every day of my life going to work.

Coy Baker: Oh, okay.

Denis Tyrell: So.

Coy Baker: I got you.

Denis Tyrell: There's you know there' It's just... Bye. He's all, I mean,

Coy Baker: Right.

Denis Tyrell: oh hey you know But I think we are probably.

Coy Baker: Right.

Denis Tyrell: 15 minutes. But there is a mountain range between us. Or a hill. So. It's about 20 minutes. yeah something like that But. Not too far.

Coy Baker: for some reason i thought it was like 30 or 40 minutes maybe that was just traffic

Denis Tyrell: No. Yeah, traffic it can be.

Grippy McGripperston: Depending on the time of the day.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, that's for sure um But yeah, we have... a Yeah, he'll be back next week. And then we have. um Well, yeah, we. air quotes, we have. um John Norwood and Spencer coming. um for...

Denis Tyrell: They're doing a folder class and doing some stuff. I think. they're here in two weeks now so i'm really looking forward to to doing that took a day off work and Just going to go and ruin their time.

Denis Tyrell: It's gonna be awesome.

Coy Baker: yeah

Grippy McGripperston: Bazaar. Does Dennis let you teach the profiling part of the class?

Denis Tyrell: No, he uses a laser. He replaced me with an AI laser

Grippy McGripperston: Well, you know.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. Yeah. Everyone will be replaced in some way.

Grippy McGripperston: hello

Coy Baker: this Unless you're the one doing the replacing.

Denis Tyrell: So. That's right. So.

Coy Baker: Be at the top of the board. Top of the game. um Well, that's cool. Yeah, John, we've I've talked to John a handful of times. Because he... I don't know if he still lives in my neck of the woods. He used to live in my neck of the woods.

Coy Baker: before the hurricane.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah.

Coy Baker: Um,

Denis Tyrell: What was the name of that hurricane?

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: Haleem.

Coy Baker: Um...

Denis Tyrell: Helene

Coy Baker: Helene. Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Okay.

Coy Baker: Mm hmm.

Grippy McGripperston: That's interesting. On our vacation this summer, driving through that. That was... quite ah Quite a... Quite a... Shock.

Coy Baker: This summer?

Grippy McGripperston: Yeah, well just seeing like the aftermath of it still I forget what interstate that is that goes through the...

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: mountains there. like to Asheville. and

Coy Baker: 81.

Grippy McGripperston: around us yeah sure something like that There's still sections that are like... a hundred feet washed like just Down in a...

Denis Tyrell: yeah

Grippy McGripperston: Levine. It's wild.

Coy Baker: Mm hmm.

Denis Tyrell: That's crazy.

Coy Baker: Yeah. Not something we normally get up here, that's for sure.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah. That was, yeah, that was...

Grippy McGripperston: oh

Denis Tyrell: talking about the other day and they were just like, are you sure? I'm like, yeah. I'm fucking sure. Yeah.

Grippy McGripperston: sure

Denis Tyrell: I couldn't remember the name of it, though. but But anyway, we are ah super excited for that. um

Coy Baker: Are they going to be on the podcast?

Denis Tyrell: And then... i don't know It should be.

Coy Baker: Just wondering.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, they should be.

Coy Baker: All right.

Denis Tyrell: I don't know if We'll do that or not.

Coy Baker: Nice.

Denis Tyrell: That's kind of, that'd be a rough one though. logistically. Amen. I had to put up with you. Sitting right next to Dennis one time too. That was... That was great. Yeah.

Coy Baker: that was That was great, though.

Denis Tyrell: Hmm. Yeah, that was good.

Grippy McGripperston: Why doesn't Dennis buy like an extra computer and an extra microphone?

Denis Tyrell: I don't know dude.

Coy Baker: He does have an extra microphone.

Denis Tyrell: it's probably too busy he's probably too busy getting free shit you know don't want to spend money no

Grippy McGripperston: hol

Grippy McGripperston: Is that everything that's not bound by an NDA?

Denis Tyrell: That's right. Yeah, we found out we're, yeah, we're.

Coy Baker: yep

Denis Tyrell: Too early for the cool shit. All kinds of stuff. so but ah Thanks, guys. I appreciate it. um Unfortunately, Dennis will be back next week and you'll have to.

Coy Baker: Ah.

Denis Tyrell: I love you.

Denis Tyrell: Okay.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: all Alright.

Coy Baker: It'd take me too long to pull it up.

Denis Tyrell: All right.

Coy Baker: It'd be way too uncomfortable.

Denis Tyrell: It would be.

Grippy McGripperston: It's already past Koi's bedtime, so don't make him do that.

Denis Tyrell: Yeah, and he's sleeping right now. Bye -bye.

Coy Baker: Yeah.

Denis Tyrell: Alright, boys.
