tommy cresta: Hi everyone, welcome back to another episode of the Popcorn Podcast. I am Tommy Krista. As you can hear, Ryan is not here with me for this week's episode. This is just a quick little review that I'm going to try. These are going to be... So I've tried the Letterboxd Recap episodes. I've tried the Tommy's Corner where review films.
tommy cresta: It came in about minutes. Well, I thought, why not shorten that even more and try and do films I've never seen before. And I want to give smaller films a review, but I know it's not going to be able to do a whole episode.
tommy cresta: And just really giving my quick opinions on something. So yeah, the film doing today is Afflicted is a 2013 found footage horror movie. And yeah, before I get into that, I just want to give a quick thank you to everyone who has supported us recently.
tommy cresta: The love on TikTok and Instagram has been, I mean, overwhelming recently. And it means so much to me and Ryan that you guys continue to listen to the show, that you guys want to talk to us. You want to reach out to us on Instagram, on TikTok, like our posts, share our posts, all those kind of things mean so much to us.
tommy cresta: And we know that it seems like kind of simple thing. But it's not. It really means so much to Ryan and I. We care about you guys. We care about our audience. We want you guys to enjoy listening to us talk.
tommy cresta: So it means a lot to us. And we're so thankful that you guys continue to decide to come and listen to us every week. Give our pains on film when we are just two young kids that are total idiots. And yeah.
tommy cresta: But yeah, go check out. We have actually have a new TikTok page too. it's called the Popcorn Podcast. Pod Gaming. ah It's pretty much the same logo. It's green though instead of you orange like our main logo. And yeah, that's where we're going to be. All of our TikTok clips that have to do with gaming now will be on that page.
tommy cresta: ah It's only at like 28 followers or something right now. But yeah, go check out that page. I think that's going to be our all of our gaming content will be over there. So if you want to see us play Ready or Not, you want to see us MLB, College Football, Madden,
tommy cresta: of what's called? Not Humans Fall Yeah, Humans Fall Flat. like Games like that, it's going to be on that page. Anything film-related will be on the podcast page.
tommy cresta: So yeah, make sure to go check out the new page over there. um And yeah, that's all really have to say before I get into the review of this film.
tommy cresta: Oh, hi Sam. My girlfriend just texted me. um But yeah, getting into the actual review, Afflicted. It is a, point as I said, 2013 found footage horror movie. It is directed, produced, written, and starred in By Cliff Prowse and Derek Lee. They lay do all of that together. It's a very small cast.
tommy cresta: ah The poster awesome looking. If you haven't seen it, go check it out. don't want to tell you what happens. and This is going to be spoiler free reviews as well. ah But yeah, Captured on Film is the tagline of this film.
tommy cresta: And the synopsis is, Two friends tour of Europe takes a dark turn when one of them contracts a mysterious illness. They race to find out what it is and how to cure it before the sickness consumes him completely.
tommy cresta: It's currently sitting at 3.1 on Letterboxd. It has 3.2 thousand reviews. 22 thousand members said they've seen it. And it's on 8.2 thousand lists.
tommy cresta: As I said these guys I think did an amazing job with this film. It's one of my favorite films I've seen in a long time. And it's one of the best horror films i think I've ever seen. And one of the best found footage horror movies that I've ever seen.
tommy cresta: And it's definitely in my top 20 horror movies of all time. It builds tension really well. It makes you care about the two characters, which I feel in horror, the writing sometimes, you don't really care what happens. You're kind of waiting for the gore, ah the scares, jump scares, or whatever.
tommy cresta: And this film does not do this. This starts you off and makes you care for both of them, and it makes you worry about them when things start to happen, the scares start coming. But yeah, I really had a great time with this project. I think the way that they film it is so different from a lot of film footage.
tommy cresta: And the way they were able to mix in visual effects and had great writing, some really good scares mixed in there. And the way they were able to build the tension in scenes where I didn't think the tension would be important. It's like I didn't think it wouldd be a scary scene.
tommy cresta: But yeah, this this film has it all. i put it at four out of five on Letterboxd. And I think it really is a great, great, great found footage horror film. It's on an Amazon Prime. i think it was about $350 rent.
tommy cresta: um Another film I watched, we are still ah here. That's free if you want to it on Amazon. That was also really good. I just don't think it hit as well as this does. This ended and I wanted more. It's only 85 minutes and I'm telling you, it flies by. And this has everything. This has gore.
tommy cresta: has some funny moments. It has some um scenes that you're not expecting in a small budget found footage film. It is in this movie and it works so well. I really want to see more from these guys. like I want to see more them direct more.
tommy cresta: I know they've acted in other projects, but they've never directed again, which is I think is kind of crazy because I think this was really, really, really well made. And yeah, that's kind of all I have to add to it. and i think it was a great time. If you like found footage, go check it out. You like horror? Go check this out.
tommy cresta: You kind of want to get into horror, but you don't to be too scared. i think Afflicted is a great intro horror movie, and I think more people need to see it, and i hope that more people listen to this and And I hope I at least interest them just a little bit to at least go check it out.
tommy cresta: But if you are going to watch this film, I'm telling you, do not watch the trailer. You don't want to anything about this movie before you get into it. Just go watch it and have a great time watching it. It is so much fun. i really, really love this film.
tommy cresta: And yeah, that's all I have to add about Afflicted. i won't go try I'm going to try and do two of these, one of these every week. Because, yeah, I think these films need more people to see them.
tommy cresta: And I hope I can help. these filmmakers in any way get their films seen. So yeah, thank you guys so much for the continued support as I talked about in the beginning of this episode. ah Go check us out on all of our social medias, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram.
